- 0:01Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian we've
- 0:04podcast. Today's guest is hailing all the
- 0:08way from Austin Texas. I got the town right?
- 0:11It right there. I knew I was gonna get that
- 0:13wrong but Austin Texas all the way Stateside.
- 0:16His he goes by the name DMT or DMT realist on all of his social
- 0:22media platforms. And he is most importantly a
- 0:25solo musician. He describes himself as a punk
- 0:29rap vocalist. First, we're gonna get into this
- 0:31even more so, but basically a wrapper and music Creator all
- 0:35the way from the United States. So, hello, and welcome to the
- 0:39show. How you doing, howdy?
- 0:41Howdy I'm doing fantastic so it's a beautiful morning in
- 0:45Austin Texas, right? Yeah, that thanks.
- 0:49By the way, for agreeing to do this at such an early time.
- 0:51I'll explain whenever I do some of these podcast with certain
- 0:56people from America, in certain States, obviously you have to
- 0:59factor in the time. Indifference.
- 1:00And I always try and do it at a reasonable time, but of course,
- 1:04if it's too late for me as well, I'll be drained.
- 1:06So it's kind of that trying to find that healthy balance
- 1:08between the two locally with me though.
- 1:11Like honestly, it could have been any time.
- 1:13And I would have been down, you know, I made it work for you, I
- 1:20believe you and based, based on what I've seen in my research,
- 1:23and just like, looking at you and your friends at everything,
- 1:26I do genuinely believe that, but at the same time, like I do feel
- 1:29that, like Everyone has those points where they're most kind
- 1:32of like at their Peak best, you know?
- 1:35I mean of course and I appreciate you giving me that I
- 1:38could time frame. It's you say, for me, I've done
- 1:41podcasts, like quite late at night before and I the only way
- 1:46I can get through that is by just having a ton of coffee,
- 1:49which it is. He's fine.
- 1:52But it means this is the massive problem afterwards.
- 1:54So, I just have like this, I can't sleep and I'm like totally
- 1:57screwed from that point onwards, I can't drink coffee.
- 2:02I get to jittery hike have ADHD so I just I'm just always
- 2:08naturally going. So what do you okay?
- 2:11So like right now, yeah, you're waking up right now.
- 2:12So what do you have to kind of just like, start the morning
- 2:15aside from what we can see you're having right now, but
- 2:18what wakes you up? Well nowadays my girlfriend,
- 2:28then my person, she girlfriend makes you because she goes to
- 2:35work and you know she tells me if I need to clean the house or
- 2:40not or something or like what we're doing later or she asked
- 2:43me what I'm doing. Incidentally, I'm going to the
- 2:48airport today. Make up one of my Group members
- 2:53mother-in-law's from the airport bring her.
- 2:56So that's my only mission for today but like but in terms of
- 3:00like actually just you know waking up and just because like
- 3:03everyone needs something like for me it's I have to have the
- 3:05coffee otherwise for some reason and I'm probably addicted to it.
- 3:09I don't know but like I just can't get the brain.
- 3:13You know, working okay. Oh wow.
- 3:16Well they go, I need you. Are you in Texas right now?
- 3:22Are you staying elsewhere? No, I'm in Texas right now is
- 3:27technically legal in Austin. Okay, explain, because our
- 3:36police chief made us a public statement saying he wasn't going
- 3:40to make any arrests or give any tickets for under four ounces
- 3:48and he hasn't so far. Like, they've been doing really
- 3:50good. This is what confuses me about
- 3:52the states, because I know that and I actually weirdly I did,
- 3:55some people don't know this. But sometimes when I freelance
- 3:58and do marketing work, I'll end up doing articles for a bunch of
- 4:02different things. And, at one point, I actually
- 4:04did articles about cannabis legalization, I think it was
- 4:10because I was doing articles on like, CBD and stuff.
- 4:13So, there was some crossover there and it meant that I had to
- 4:16look at like where it's legal in the states.
- 4:18So I saw Luke to this map and it's very confusing because it
- 4:21kind of implies that the majority of States it's either
- 4:29It's not many like fully legal. There's probably like maybe,
- 4:32yes, only like 7 to 10 that I like purely legal, and then
- 4:36loads of these ones that are like conditional.
- 4:38So it's like, oh, it's legal. If you have a medical condition
- 4:41or it's legal, as you say, like, in certain amounts and
- 4:44quantities, and this is very confusing and It's Tricky as
- 4:47well because like, if you have a situation where like, I don't
- 4:51know, you're just temporarily go into another state and you just
- 4:53happen to have some weed on you like that, could be the
- 4:55difference between like you don't just happen to have We
- 4:58done here that's a bit. Maybe you just have like a tiny
- 5:01bit or something. Did anybody not like not know
- 5:05that you have it and then go into a really strict state?
- 5:08But luckily, like honestly like we I've been a lot of places
- 5:14locally. The places I have been have at
- 5:17least been medically your own legalized so you know, like
- 5:23nobody really cares. Fair play.
- 5:26I mean, I suppose it's like you said think it's crazy syntek,
- 5:30right? But I suppose it is largely
- 5:33dependent on the state, you're in.
- 5:34And like you said, like knowing the lord, it's largely depended
- 5:39on the city like, oh, okay, Mike, is it goes, It goes three
- 5:45different chains, like you got federal government, state,
- 5:48government, municipal government.
- 5:52We're all able to make our own little Lon.
- 5:55Was that so confusing like yeah, it's hard man.
- 5:59It's it. I hate it.
- 6:00Honestly, I hate this system. She must have to like, really
- 6:04know your laws. Then like oh yeah, every every
- 6:07everywhere we go, we're looking we're getting on Reddit.
- 6:10We're like looking up the weed laws like seeing what we can get
- 6:12away with like she has no matter what it's going to sound like a
- 6:18real pain in the ass. But like again I still think
- 6:21there's like these potentials of just like accidents happening.
- 6:25The alike, very small time things that you just couldn't
- 6:29foresee, you know, like for example what I meant before was
- 6:31like let's say you have like just like a joint or something
- 6:34or like some residue or something like very engine on a
- 6:37Moonlight and the police decide, okay?
- 6:38Like they're just going to do like a routine search or they
- 6:41just don't like I don't like the look of you and they search you
- 6:44and then they bust you on that. And it's like mean because I can
- 6:48understand to some extent like the intent to, to sell, but even
- 6:54in the UK, It's very unclear because we have this thing where
- 6:57it's a Class A, or Class, B, or Class C.
- 7:00And we'd just general, cannabis, sort of moves freely between
- 7:05those every couple of years. So, in terms of whether or not
- 7:09you get arrested for it, is largely dependent on the
- 7:11government and the laws at that particular time.
- 7:14But like it really depends on who's arresting you as well.
- 7:19Did, I mean, like, some people might be like, there's nothing,
- 7:23whatever. And other people would be like,
- 7:24no, you Trying to sell with the tiniest smallest amount.
- 7:29I've gotten extremely lucky with my cop, encounters and marijuana
- 7:34like here in Texas because back then the conversation.
- 7:39One wasn't as big. So I like we wasn't legal here.
- 7:43CBD wasn't like him poison. Even legal here and like just in
- 7:472019, it became legal. Wow.
- 7:50Okay. That's very recent then.
- 7:52Yeah. So why I sell CBD?
- 7:55I got I'm a shaman and basically if we as of August 2nd, we can't
- 8:03even sell Bud. Now, I can't, we can't sell it
- 8:06as a smokable, but we can sell it as t or a, or a cooking
- 8:12material, but to do it just confuses me.
- 8:15It's like even make it legal or don't make it legal.
- 8:17What the hell is this? All we can have.
- 8:19It is like this form but can't have it in this form is like a
- 8:22crazy taxes are so high. Texas is one of the five main
- 8:27agriculturist states in the United States hemp and
- 8:33marijuana. If you look at the revenue that
- 8:38California, if you look at what they're doing, organ, whatever
- 8:42are immaculately changing their economy would just we'd like
- 8:48it's papers, you know, like textiles in general like know
- 8:52you can use it for T. You can use of just He's
- 8:55forgetting high and then it has medicinal purposes.
- 8:58Well, like an all-around wonder drug, you know, the I've always
- 9:02been very Pro cannabis, to be honest.
- 9:04I mean, you know, like, I think in comparison with like alcohol,
- 9:08for example, you know, it's been proven time and time again, that
- 9:13it's far more detrimental to be, you know, regularly consuming
- 9:17alcohol as opposed to wheat. But then again, it does kind of
- 9:20depend on individual reactions to certain drugs as well.
- 9:24Like how the brain. Chemistry works and how people
- 9:26respond to it and such I think I'm gone.
- 9:31I need your perspective on something.
- 9:32Since you're from the Lou you'd say you're from the UK.
- 9:36Yes. So over here in America whenever
- 9:40we're talking about like marijuana legalization, it's
- 9:45brought up that the tobacco and alcohol companies and industries
- 9:51have suppressed ability for cannabis to be Because they
- 9:57would lose sales. Have you heard that?
- 9:59Yeah, I think that's very logical.
- 10:02I agree that that's probably why.
- 10:03I mean, because there's many, there's many people in the UK
- 10:05that say that, you know, the only reason the Cannabis is not
- 10:08legal is that they just haven't found a way to tax it, but soon
- 10:11as they do that, then obviously, the government can make money
- 10:14off of it. And, you know, I mean, I think
- 10:16that there is like a very, very slow push in the form of, like,
- 10:20you know, CBD is legal. So I feel that that's like the
- 10:23entry level and very Slowly, we might get to the point where
- 10:26it's like, you know, kind of as is legal, but I think it's a
- 10:31bigger considerate and this is going into conspiracy a little
- 10:34bit, but I think it's like the government always wants you to
- 10:37have their drugs. No, no.
- 10:40Thank your own drugs. Like if you're growing your own
- 10:42stuff, then there's a problem. So it's not even really about
- 10:44the drug. It's about like, you know, and I
- 10:47think it's the same in the state such as I was reading an article
- 10:49the other day about, like, things like you can't collect
- 10:52your own like Rainwater. In in the states.
- 10:56As an example, there are some states that don't want to do
- 10:59them. Also, there are some that do
- 11:01then area here in Texas. It's actually a really big
- 11:05entrepreneurship, like it's a big thing over here, especially
- 11:08in the area that I'm in. Because we have so many
- 11:10estuaries and like, like our land naturally curved collects
- 11:15rain and holds it like it. I'm assuming agent Sparks the
- 11:19idea. Anyways, you know, we have tons
- 11:23of businesses, That are like rainwater collection companies
- 11:27and they'll just come and step your system and it's super
- 11:31efficient like I've lived on three properties that had it.
- 11:34It's awesome. I get so efficient, there's get
- 11:38me for me. I think the bigger issue is all
- 11:41like the biggest consideration in this is it's just about
- 11:44people having the freedom to kind of, you know, if they want
- 11:47to live somewhere remotely off the land off their own systems
- 11:51and stuff like you see, I see sometimes there are people that
- 11:54are like Like I saw a guy I think he's like a twitch
- 11:56streamer in the state's who rides around in his own like
- 11:59minibus kind of thing that solar powered and everything.
- 12:03And I'm just looking at this like man.
- 12:05That's that's that's how you want to live your life right
- 12:07there. I was rocking out of the van for
- 12:09a second. It was a my Instagram, you'll
- 12:15see some pictures that like we renovated van during the
- 12:20protest. We kind of had like a punk house
- 12:22thing going on so like, you know, Stay there.
- 12:26If you were, you know, helping out and like big stuff with the
- 12:29band because I'm a part of two different groups.
- 12:31So, I ATX flow down, which is the Jazz Band, it's all improv
- 12:37and like, so I get up there freestyle rap freestyle sing,
- 12:40like just like head and the band behind me is, you know, just
- 12:45going hard just jamming out like they, they do take like
- 12:49standards from like jazz samples and stuff.
- 12:53Actually turn it into a free. Hip hop beat you.
- 12:57And, and actually that brings us quite nicely into into your
- 13:01music. But before we kind of, because
- 13:03this is the kind of thing that, and this is why I said to you
- 13:06beforehand, why it was interesting and why I found this
- 13:09like you as a very interesting person because a lot of
- 13:12musicians that I've interviewed or people that have met is very
- 13:15straight, up is like this is what I do, this is where you can
- 13:18find me and of, right, but with you it's kind of trick it like
- 13:22for instance, you just mentioned right there, that You've got
- 13:25this kind of jazz outfit thing and like I was under the
- 13:28impression that, okay, this is what I have written down.
- 13:32So there is your solo stuff, which we're going to.
- 13:34We're going to get into, right because you've literally just
- 13:37dropped something recently. So we're going to we're going to
- 13:39delve into that and go quite deep into that.
- 13:41But you're part of this group called the ugly boy, click and
- 13:46this is the thing, right? So I was looking at this and as
- 13:49I do it's clearly like a band of some description or a group.
- 13:53And then I started looking around My quick enough on music
- 13:55working. It was the stuff and then I
- 13:57might. Okay.
- 13:59And then I look up another interview with you guys, from
- 14:02about two years ago where you just sort of talking and
- 14:05chilling and stuff. And I was like, I'm just I'm
- 14:08really not getting the answer that I want and basically, I
- 14:10guess what, my first question is to, you is, like, is the ugly,
- 14:15boy? Click like a cur like a rap Clan
- 14:20or something. I apologize.
- 14:21I sound probably ancient in terms of my question, but Like
- 14:24is it kind of like just a group of guys that I like
- 14:27similar-minded and similar music?
- 14:29Or do you actually create music together and if so where can we
- 14:32actually find that music? Yeah love explain.
- 14:36Oh boy click Yeah, let me know. Alright.
- 14:41So ugly boy, click is a honky Rap Trio, rice.
- 14:47We do make music together. We kind of have this idea that
- 14:54we could never get famous alone. But for some reason, when all
- 15:00three of us come together, like, it's just really easy.
- 15:04Okay, people, people love our Charisma together, people just
- 15:08Love the dynamic so much, it just like happens naturally.
- 15:13Okay, I get that adamant of that.
- 15:15But like, yeah, so so our music I music is a really weird
- 15:21situation. So another thing is like, we
- 15:23don't really care that much like, okay, like we're kind of
- 15:28lazy about it and like like that's just kind of like one of
- 15:32the Aesthetics of being ugly is just like kind of like not
- 15:36caring that much because it's not that big of a deal.
- 15:41Basically, all of our music is on SoundCloud.
- 15:45I'll just go, but it could be on Spotify, iTunes, but it's okay
- 15:51to be clear under the name. Ugly boy, click is possible to
- 15:55find music by all three of you together.
- 15:58Yes. Okay.
- 15:59You're definitely going to have to send me a link to that
- 16:00because I could not find that for the life and I tried, I
- 16:04believe. That's right.
- 16:05Like if you wake up are at on anything?
- 16:08Yeah. On YouTube on like if you just
- 16:12Google a wee boy, click like Instagram like you'll find
- 16:17everything problem. See that's the thing.
- 16:19I could only find your stuff. Mmm.
- 16:21And which is fine, it's just that.
- 16:24I was like, I was interested in kind of seeing what you guys do
- 16:27together and in seeing how that differs with your solo stuff and
- 16:31seeing the comes differences in between kind of thing.
- 16:34So I would compare my solo stuff tomorrow.
- 16:37Voice experimental like the punk rap metal rap stuff.
- 16:44But like whenever I'm with only book click we kind of go for a
- 16:47specific aesthetic. And yeah it's kind of like a sad
- 16:53boy mad boy emo type thing and it's just like it's a good way
- 17:03to talk about, you know, how you feel.
- 17:07That's what a lot of our music is about is how we're feeling
- 17:11and what we're going through a school, that's awesome.
- 17:14I was mostly my music is about in general because like the
- 17:18realest part of my name is like I like to give music from a
- 17:22realist perspective so I just kind of put my myself on the
- 17:28piece of paper I guess the text because I type too right?
- 17:33Okay, okay. So like yeah, like I know all of
- 17:37you guys operates on a solo basis as well.
- 17:41Like you have your own things going on as well?
- 17:43Directly. Technically, if I if I if I
- 17:48could just explain the whole origin in just like I guess I
- 17:53might have all your work quick. Yes, go, go for it.
- 17:56Go for it. Please just to give you some to
- 17:58give you some context. So I I went to school and
- 18:05college station, Texas. Well, technically Bryan-College
- 18:08Station. Got my associates in agriculture
- 18:13and that's why I was there. And while I was there, I was
- 18:17making music your, the name d real and that music was more
- 18:25like radical government. Christian-based, like really
- 18:30like the logical stuff. And like, I was just trying to
- 18:38say some shit that would go over people's heads and like I
- 18:43probably like a few hundred plays and like I would think
- 18:46about it because I always knew that like that wasn't the music.
- 18:50I know that would ever like give me big like that.
- 18:52I was just like practicing essentially so as soon as I
- 18:56graduated I came out to Austin and I was I deleted all my stuff
- 19:03and I wasn't online for I'm like eight months and then like for
- 19:11some reason I just like got it in me and I just wanted to make
- 19:14music so I hit up my tour and we went and we started making
- 19:19tracks and especially I won this competition.
- 19:26That got me. This this slot at this venue
- 19:29called scratch House downtown which closed now because covid
- 19:33R.I.P but, Will this ended up hitting me up and saying he oh
- 19:41you know I said I saw your video.
- 19:43Can I come and film for you like film yourself so I was like,
- 19:48yeah, of course, she likes my first set, I feel pretty cool.
- 19:52Of course I want somebody there to film it.
- 19:54That'd be awesome. So like I feel really like
- 19:59really obligated to like get to know him for some reason.
- 20:02So I just look up his music and I find this one song, Bad Girl.
- 20:07and, Yeah, I really like it and I noticed that the very end of
- 20:13the song. He leaves like a minute and a
- 20:17half and a half of like the beach is riding out and I was
- 20:21like, I could definitely put a verse on this and like make a
- 20:25remix. So that's what we did and then
- 20:27that song kind of blew up a little bit and then just like
- 20:33had me and Cody we had a week where like it was like, We had
- 20:39like, four shows like in one night and that night, we were
- 20:46just like hitting these shows during our songs and like, in
- 20:49hard and at the very last show, like they are like, what do we
- 20:54call ya'll his like, At first, we were like just being
- 20:56introduced individually and then like, at the end, it was like,
- 20:59alright, what do we call ya'll? And could you just like, oh, we
- 21:01would click and ugly stands for understand greatness.
- 21:05Love yourself is to that. So it's just like about a
- 21:09empowering people and making it not feel so ugly.
- 21:13The world. I dig that.
- 21:16That's a really cool. Message is cool.
- 21:19I like that. I like that story as well.
- 21:20That's so yeah. Thank you.
- 21:23Yeah. It's a good story.
- 21:25Honestly, we kind of broke up for a little bit Kody and I were
- 21:32so Cody and I were living on this commune like outside of
- 21:36Austin and the owner of the land was going through divorce and
- 21:41the the Make his ex his lady took half the land, right?
- 21:50And real. Like we were on the half that
- 21:53she took and like a few other families and we all had to leave
- 21:57and hit up this one girl because I also own a pet business.
- 22:03I going home. Well yes I like a groom dogs and
- 22:06take care of animals and stuff. Okay, now I love you.
- 22:09Okay, your animal lover. So we're instantly friends.
- 22:45Magnet like my dog is pregnant, it's a big deal.
- 22:49And yeah the puppies ended up being like really overwhelming
- 22:55and like got kicked out of the house and then I was homeless
- 22:59with puppies. Oh no.
- 23:02Okay, the shelter like the only no-kill shelter here in Austin,
- 23:06like I took them all there. I was able to give one of them
- 23:09away but basically I ended up homeless and dogwood Yes and
- 23:15yeah, it was really sad so I was so pissed off that I just told
- 23:19them that I was gonna do my own thing.
- 23:23And yeah, Cody recently broke up with that girl and apologize to
- 23:32me and we had, you know, we've had a lot of really good days
- 23:35because like like these guys are legitimately like my Bros like
- 23:40brothers. Like I've gone on tour with
- 23:42them. I've gone all around the state.
- 23:44Me and Willis we've actually gone out like we've got a Cali
- 23:48together like on a really big tour and I was No, we were ugly
- 23:54will click at the time. It was still like we were there,
- 23:56you know, doing this shit together.
- 23:58And yeah, I'm really glad that Cody came out of the Woodworks
- 24:03with this because like I said, we always thought that we could
- 24:07never do it on our own like, just come so easy.
- 24:10When we're all three doing it together.
- 24:12I don't think anyone. Truly duck gets to the top alone
- 24:15even if they're represented us, like, being a solo act or or
- 24:20whatever. The case may be, you always have
- 24:22people. Around you and you will work.
- 24:25Makes the Dream Work precisely. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:28I couldn't agree more. And like I think if nothing
- 24:30else, you know, it's like it's better, you learn from people,
- 24:35you grow with people. It's good to have people around
- 24:38you. That kind of like, we have this
- 24:40expression gasps you up, like, you know, you're good about
- 24:43yourself and stuff and vice versa.
- 24:46I feel like if you just celebrating on your own, it's a
- 24:48bit like the pressing. It's like, okay, great, but no
- 24:51one to share it with Buddy. I agree.
- 24:55I totally agree with that. That's exactly what I was
- 24:57feeling because like, I mean, my soul music, like my solo career
- 25:03was successful. I got a lot of fun.
- 25:06Like I went on, a lot of Tours and being xiety of not having to
- 25:10deal with the group was really nice.
- 25:12Like, you know, I'm not gonna lie like a good time and I am
- 25:15actually going on a national tour.
- 25:19In February and that's just going to be me and that's just
- 25:23something that I set up a while ago committed to it and they'll
- 25:29think a lot of time as well. Like it's good to have.
- 25:32If you're as part of the band it's good to have a solo outfit
- 25:35because it's just like there's always going to be ideas things
- 25:38that you don't meet with your contemporaries like Connor on a,
- 25:42not necessarily like a personal level but like a creatively,
- 25:44there's always going to be like creative differences.
- 25:46It's good to have a your own thing.
- 25:48Like okay, this is just anything that doesn't fit with this
- 25:51group, I'll put it in this. This would be my thing kind of
- 25:54thing. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:56And yeah. Coincidentally, the tour is a,
- 26:01you guys Juggalos are. Yeah.
- 26:05I know it's a Jaguar, can you explain this a little bit?
- 26:09Because I know very little about this.
- 26:11Like the only thing I know is that this term comes from the
- 26:15band, the rap group Insane, Clown Posse, I've got a correct.
- 26:19Yes, that's, that's the origins of it.
- 26:22They they in the cult following kind of became the Juggalos,
- 26:29right? Okay, basically, it's a whole
- 26:34genre, right? There's a whole category of
- 26:38Juggalo rappers and Juggalo fans who only listen to Juggalo rep.
- 26:44I would say, one of the kings of Juggalo rap would be like Nine
- 26:49like Juggalos love TEC-9 like he's a big deal and basically
- 26:57they're just like really supportive people like they're
- 27:00really nice people like they go hard and like the kind of crazy
- 27:03but like at the end of the day like there to show him love like
- 27:06it's really cool but what did like the defining
- 27:09characteristics that maker? Yeah.
- 27:12Juggalos kind of most most Juggalos paint their face you
- 27:16know they yeah. You know, they like to sit
- 27:21Faygo, they call each other ninjas.
- 27:25They they go hard and they show love Okay, cool.
- 27:30Well, yeah, this is totally going over my head.
- 27:34But like, it's interesting to learn about that.
- 27:37Yeah. They they're, they're, they're
- 27:40crazy crowd. That's what I'm.
- 27:42That's also about them but it's perfect for the marsh music, you
- 27:47know. Right.
- 27:48Right. Right.
- 27:49Right. Get ready to throw down the
- 27:52brain about to you. Like I got to say before I go on
- 27:56with my questions, I will say like to me it kind of Sounds
- 28:00like you and and the ugly boy click in general.
- 28:02Like it's like you have a very relaxed attitude to music and
- 28:08it's to me it sounds like you're kind of doing it.
- 28:10Yeah. For the love of the music which
- 28:11is obviously like the real reason everyone should be doing
- 28:14it. But like what I mean by that is
- 28:18that okay let's take the thing with with you getting filmed
- 28:23during that stuff right. It to me it kind of seems like
- 28:26you're more hands-off with your music in terms of Like the
- 28:30management of it. Shall we say, right?
- 28:32So your head is in, you know, making the music, playing the
- 28:37music being with your friends working together, that's where
- 28:41your head is at, right? So your head is not necessarily
- 28:43in the whole marketing of your stuff and like thinking like,
- 28:49yeah, I could do this with it and it will get more exposure or
- 28:51I could do this with it. And it would go.
- 28:53That like, is that accurate to say or no?
- 28:57Yeah, me personally, I I don't like to think about that stuff.
- 29:02Like, I could because I went to school for agriculture
- 29:06marketing, like I know how to Market.
- 29:08They got my that's where my pet service is so successful.
- 29:12Like I know what I'm doing? Yeah.
- 29:14Well, hopefully, but in terms of like, getting big online going
- 29:21viral like like making bad girl was like a huge like random
- 29:26thing like when that went viral like we're Just like I don't I
- 29:31didn't know what we did trying to create what we did after that
- 29:35point, you know, but like really never were able to.
- 29:39Well I wouldn't say that it's about to that but um, anyways
- 29:46will this is mostly the guy that likes to think like hey we need
- 29:50to get our stuff on Spotify, we need to hit up this person for
- 29:54promotion, we need to do that. So what else is the guy who
- 29:58talks in sends the Also, there's a lot of our marketing and
- 30:03dealing with Brands who want to go out with us because that's
- 30:07coming up. We're going to start with the
- 30:09few clothing brands. I think we have like three and
- 30:12then like we're ambassadors for a few more.
- 30:15Okay, cool, cool. Yeah.
- 30:17I mean, like, and he says, most of that of and yeah, I just, I
- 30:21just don't like to think about that shit because like I said, I
- 30:24have my own business. I still cvd like, I like to
- 30:27chill. I just I just want to make music
- 30:31at the end of the day and I think that's what was worrying
- 30:34about that stuff. Like I'm not going to worry
- 30:36about this. Yeah I think if anything it kind
- 30:40of works in your favor that you do that and what I mean by that
- 30:43is like you know most musicians yeah.
- 30:46Will either have a team working for them that are handling?
- 30:49This all they're doing themselves like it.
- 30:51I suppose. It depends where you're at in
- 30:52your career and such like for instance right now.
- 30:55It's not to do a music but I'm doing the literally everything
- 30:59for this podcast. Like everything and I'm like,
- 31:02looking at the increasing workload, like I need a team.
- 31:04I need, I need people to do like this, this this this and this,
- 31:07but it's the reason for that is obviously because I just can't
- 31:12do everything myself forever. You know, that's that's more
- 31:17like bore out of necessity rather than anything else but
- 31:22bring it back to you. Like I find this interesting
- 31:25because a like I said there's that Approach to things a
- 31:30different mindset and such. But also, you know, you guys
- 31:33have a very big following like your personal account has a big
- 31:36following on Instagram, the ugly boy, click has a big following,
- 31:41but then like for instance, like you have a small following on
- 31:43the YouTube, it's like there's a clear kind of like strategy in
- 31:50terms of like where you guys are most prevalent.
- 31:53It's like okay Instagram and SoundCloud is like where we're
- 31:55focusing our efforts and stuff mostly and then Live shows as
- 32:00well, obviously as a musician but like in terms of like where
- 32:05the focus point is, but I feel like and get back to my main
- 32:10point here is that I feel like it's almost like a strategy in
- 32:15of itself. It's like if you look at like
- 32:17your Instagram and then the ugly boy, click one.
- 32:21It's like, people are almost like buying into like a nice
- 32:24daheck or an idea or a lifestyle.
- 32:28Maybe is better better way of putting.
- 32:29Owning it and I think that is the biggest appeal about all of
- 32:33this. That's what fascinates me like,
- 32:35I'm like sitting there like our this is different.
- 32:37I haven't seen this but I've seen something similar to this
- 32:41as you real quick. How old are you just out of
- 32:43Interest role? 24:24 okay.
- 32:46Yeah because like to me, it's like something that like I have.
- 32:52I can connect with the music, but like I said, there's like a
- 32:55barrier. Like, I'm just too old, I'm a
- 32:57couple that I'm like, 27. So I just, I feel like there's a
- 32:59disconnect there, and the closest thing I can compare it
- 33:03to is, I have a younger brother who's about 14, 15 and we get on
- 33:08very well with, you know, we connect on a good level but
- 33:11like, there is a lot of stuff that I see him post where I'm
- 33:13like, what is I don't understand this.
- 33:15This is alien to me and it's interesting that you guys are
- 33:20like so mad. It is because that would imply
- 33:22that it's not even an age thing. It's more of a like I said like
- 33:26a lifestyle thing like a just a particular approach to life.
- 33:29I just find that really interesting especially in terms
- 33:33of the actual marketing of you guys but not so much about the
- 33:39business side that more just just the presentation I guess is
- 33:43more what I'm getting at. I mean I like to look at it from
- 33:46a sociological perspective, you know, like I'm definitely in her
- 33:51able to understand the crowd and see what they want, you know?
- 33:56But I would say the ideals that we boy could try to push our
- 34:03very wholesome, very meaningful and definitely very real, you
- 34:09know, everybody should want to feel like that everybody should
- 34:11want to. You know, love themselves.
- 34:15The only the only way to understand greatness is to love
- 34:18yourself like if to understand. So basically yeah, like if you
- 34:30honestly, it wasn't intentional to keep it all on Instagram and
- 34:34SoundCloud, we just for some reason, like I said, like
- 34:39whenever I came back to Austin, like I started my like that
- 34:43account is probably only three and do, like, I had just became
- 34:50DMT like I think like, in March of 2018, and So, basically, like
- 35:02we were just posting on Instagram and then like Cody was
- 35:07getting like 200 likes on average and it was just because
- 35:10he had like the aesthetic and I'm like, I kind of figured out
- 35:14how he uses Instagram. And then like, I started doing
- 35:17it that way. I started like really watching
- 35:20Instagram videos, like how to get followers and how do I, you
- 35:23know, like I was doing a lot of like research on social media
- 35:28But we just focused a lot on Instagram.
- 35:34And obviously, I we can't figure out how to get YouTube
- 35:38followers. We can't figure out how to get
- 35:40our Instagram followers, to go to our YouTube, and watch our
- 35:43amvs and stuff. Because, I mean, honestly, even
- 35:47I find it arbitrary to watch music videos, you know, over and
- 35:51over again. Nowadays, like I'm not just
- 35:54gonna sit and watch music video. Like, I have apple music, like,
- 35:57I'm just down to my phone. That's it.
- 36:00It's over, you know, so like I would love to be At least that I
- 36:06guess is the word reachable like able to be downloaded like that
- 36:15and then not have to think about it but you know like for some
- 36:19reason like sound cloud makes it easy and with our following were
- 36:23able to you know, least get a thousand views neck.
- 36:27Like organically like that's satisfying, you know?
- 36:31Like yeah my great actually my Previous guests I had on the
- 36:35show, we were talking a little bit about like, you sort of
- 36:38like, when you're, when you have something that's working, you
- 36:40kind of you roll with it, you go with it, right?
- 36:42And I think, with, with marketing and light presenting
- 36:45yourself and such like, you know, I'm everywhere online as
- 36:48well. But like, I found that there are
- 36:50certain areas that do better than others, but also, you have
- 36:53to approach everything so differently.
- 36:55So that the way you approach Instagram is drastically
- 36:59different to YouTube and I felt like you won't always
- 37:02necessarily like have the same fan bases either.
- 37:05Like I feel like you know those people that do follow you on
- 37:08Instagram or find you through SoundCloud like you say they're
- 37:11not interested in watching music videos.
- 37:13Music videos are kind of a controversial book that I pass a
- 37:17thing. I don't think I really watch
- 37:19them anymore. Maybe it depends who's making
- 37:22them, what the purpose is, you know, I think like you're gonna
- 37:25watch, you're really famous person's music video Just to
- 37:27like, you know, see a real creative mind speak to me, you
- 37:33know, through a visual But like, honestly, I'm not going to watch
- 37:36my homeboys video, you know, I don't think it really depends
- 37:42for me. I mean, I'm interested if it's
- 37:43like political, like, like when Childish Gambino released his,
- 37:46his music video for this is America like that.
- 37:50Like that interests, you have to watch.
- 37:52You know, that's one night. I saw it once, you know, like at
- 37:55least but this is what I mean. Like that versus, I don't know,
- 37:59watching the latest Beyonce video, like you already know
- 38:03what to expect. There's I'm going to be anything
- 38:04like groundbreaking in that, so why should you bother like you
- 38:07might as well just listen? Listen on Spotify, I'll map or
- 38:10music or whatever. Like, you know, I've thought
- 38:12that about Beyonce I just gave that as an example.
- 38:17But yeah, I'm thinking of a specific memory anyway.
- 38:26I mean, I think you're killing it with regards to that.
- 38:28I mean anyone that isn't familiar with DMT, I recommend
- 38:31you go check out his Instagram, if nothing else.
- 38:34Because certainly, from a marketing perspective, the only
- 38:37reason I'm so fixated on that is just because I studied
- 38:39marketing, I just find that interesting on and on a level
- 38:44because like every post you make, you don't do it like all
- 38:47the time. You just you do it sparingly but
- 38:49when you do it, it gets like thousands of likes and that's
- 38:52the think there is like a fresh or there's a difference between
- 38:54like, you know, having some popular posts and then
- 38:57absolutely crushing it every time and that always implies
- 39:02like a, you say, Like a different kind of a specific
- 39:06approach that you've achieved through like studying in some
- 39:12shape or form or a particular strategy that works.
- 39:16But I feel like all of the social media platforms, you just
- 39:21have to figure out like, who your audiences, and then, once
- 39:25you've done that, you can just appeal to them in whatever way
- 39:29they like. Look at the way they communicate
- 39:31and then communicate in that same way.
- 39:35I really like for one long time ago, Never I was I was so like
- 39:43where I was learning how to be a dog trainer and cut hair and
- 39:47stuff. I was basically like a
- 39:50right-hand man for the guy who's running the business, and he
- 39:57taught me a lot about marketing. And one thing he put in my head
- 40:00was there's a market for everything.
- 40:03There's a mark like, no matter. If you can't find your market,
- 40:07then you're not a good businessman.
- 40:09Yes. You don't need a great.
- 40:11Yeah, like it was really good to work with him one-on-one
- 40:14because, yeah, I was really able to see how to make a business
- 40:18grow and like he had the funds to do it.
- 40:21But the thing is, the thing takes money and that's something
- 40:26that we don't have, which sucks because I know that if we had
- 40:32funds for Marketing in. Like I think crowdfund is the
- 40:40way to go for you guys based on your audience.
- 40:42That makes the most sense. We hate asking people.
- 40:49Yeah but you got to you got to look at it like in terms of what
- 40:51you're delivering because if it's just like hey guys can you
- 40:54give us some money? Because we're poor whole then
- 40:56that's not going to work. If it's like hey guys you know
- 41:02we need it to make like this. This music video or make this
- 41:05tour reality and you know people buy into that because they
- 41:09support as you like you said before they supporting an idea
- 41:12or something like that. And I know it sucks because I
- 41:15know what you're trying to say is just like it sucks.
- 41:18When you're yeah asking for money asking for material
- 41:21possessions and stuff but like just how our society Works in
- 41:25it. You need money to do anything.
- 41:27Like the only reason I have like this Mike I'm using right now is
- 41:30because of a donation from someone else who believed in me.
- 41:33And was like Hey I believe in you go nuts, do it and I was
- 41:38like holy fuck. And I've got like even more
- 41:40motivated than I previously was but yeah I get where you're
- 41:45coming. I'm not I don't like asking
- 41:47either. It just feels odd.
- 41:52We thought about it of course, like thought about it and like
- 41:57if it makes sense like and I've seen a lot of like GoFundMe
- 42:02these and And kickstarter's, like really pop off here in
- 42:06Austin. Like, for people, that I know
- 42:08personally, and like it's kind of kind of peer pressured me to
- 42:15want to do it even more but yeah, I don't know, at the end
- 42:22of the day, like, More satisfying to blow up and say we
- 42:27never spent a dime. I mean, I certainly think that's
- 42:32possible too because like I said, I don't I don't often come
- 42:35across musicians such as yourself so it's cool.
- 42:38There's something in that. That like I think these days
- 42:41when you consider like how over saturate, the music Market is,
- 42:46you know, being different being unique is the only thing that
- 42:50can really push you and make and not just that actually also
- 42:54being relatable. I being able to connect with
- 42:57people on some level. It's one thing to Just Produce
- 43:01music that people like, yeah, okay, that's good.
- 43:03Great. But like, actually being able to
- 43:06present something that everyone's like, yeah, I feel
- 43:08that I get that. I'm with that, that's me,
- 43:12whatever like that. Yeah, you know, I mean like when
- 43:14I look at my music taste over the years, I've said this a
- 43:17million times on the podcast but in terms of our particular
- 43:21conversation, music was always kind of represented particular
- 43:26moments in my life and certain like, This was me, then this is
- 43:31me now, blah blah blah. And that's why.
- 43:33Like, I don't, listen, I can, I can still listen to music.
- 43:36I used to listen to, but it feels kind of odd because it's
- 43:39not really like, okay? Like for example, I used to
- 43:42listen to like a lot of like, metal and rock and stuff like
- 43:45that when I was growing up, because I was just really pissed
- 43:48off. Angry.
- 43:49Teenager like I just had so much shit going on and I was like
- 43:52fuck the world. So it made sense to listen to
- 43:55like Slayer and Lamb of God and all that right.
- 43:58But know what I listen to it looks like I love it, but it's
- 44:01like, I'm not angry. I'm very happy like, I'd
- 44:06appreciate it. Ya know, I always appreciated
- 44:09it. Like yeah, I think when I became
- 44:10a musician that's when it changed and I was like, okay.
- 44:14Now I see it on the musician level but in terms of like
- 44:20relatability it changed and I think that like that's another
- 44:24just on a side note, like if you're a musician that's you
- 44:28always have to be growing and changing with Your audience and
- 44:30Reinventing yourself so that you're growing that you can't do
- 44:33the same thing forever because your audience will change and
- 44:37you change as well. That's why I always find it.
- 44:39Funny when people give musician shit for like like all this
- 44:43album sucks, like it didn't work and it's like well that's that
- 44:46particular person's artistic Vision at that particular point.
- 44:50It's only an it's only like an issue when like they're doing
- 44:53something like. I don't know to sell out and
- 44:55it's purely like not to do anything with like creativity.
- 44:58But just like, are we just want to make I think that's when it's
- 45:01an issue. And maybe like the fans have
- 45:03like a Fair Point to like, be like, fuck, you got a thing for
- 45:08sometimes, there's just genuinely bad.
- 45:12Well, yeah, yeah, like there's some people you like men, come
- 45:17on in 30. Not going to make it but I just
- 45:23kidding not like people who take it too seriously though.
- 45:28You know I think it really does depend on your attitude and like
- 45:35I don't know why I'm thinking if this but this is really random
- 45:38but I think it's when I was at Uni a couple of years back about
- 45:43four years ago. Some shit like that there was
- 45:47this Pub that we used to go to that was across the street from
- 45:50our University and like I did when I was at Uni I just didn't
- 45:54have the time to do music like I did it now and again but I kind
- 45:57of I said this in another interview that I kind of put my
- 45:59soul on a backseat and did the whole marketing degree and then
- 46:03came back and was Okay, this is what I should be doing with my
- 46:06life and not marketing. Anyway, when I would do music, I
- 46:12would I would go to places like this Pub and they had like a
- 46:16open mic night, you know, your standard thing and it was a
- 46:20weird because it was a it was open to the public.
- 46:23So it was a student Pub, but it was open to the public.
- 46:26So like you'd have like loads of students in there.
- 46:28Then every now and again, you'd have like Fred who's 60 having a
- 46:32point and like these And they would ease to musicians, that
- 46:36would regularly come to this open mic night and they were
- 46:38well into their 60s, and you could tell that they've been
- 46:43playing music all their life, and that they've got a bit of a
- 46:46chip on their shoulder that they never made it.
- 46:48And here's the thing, like, we're all in our like 20, some
- 46:52of us are teenagers, right? And we're playing and we're kind
- 46:56of as you like you, you know, just chill enjoying the music
- 46:59like whatever. We're not really like, we need
- 47:01to make it kind of attitude. Will students of rule.
- 47:05But this is our down time to get away from, you know, yeah, work
- 47:09essentially and basically that the reason I bring this up is
- 47:13because these two guys were like really like this attitude sort
- 47:18of like, they felt like they were above people.
- 47:20Like, if you, if you didn't meet their like musical level, then
- 47:24you they wouldn't talk to you kind of thing.
- 47:27And like, I just learned by laughing at that.
- 47:29But like, I didn't I wasn't angry at them if anything, like
- 47:33I pitied, Then I was like that's really sad that that's the
- 47:37mentality that you have, you know what I mean?
- 47:39Because I feel like you totally missed the point that like like
- 47:43most musicians that like some of the most successful musicians of
- 47:47all time were successful because they just chased their Vision.
- 47:51They didn't give a fuck about money or fame or any of that
- 47:55stuff that that stuff just happened around them, you don't
- 47:58know me, they made the right decisions.
- 48:01You know, they met the right people, whatever, right there.
- 48:04You know, and a certain degree of luck but ultimately it's
- 48:07about chasing that vision and and moving forward with that,
- 48:11and that's why they made it. And I feel like a lot of
- 48:14musician and, you know, not just in music in general people, you
- 48:18know, going for kind of creative things in life and I'm really
- 48:21trying to push in, make it if your head is too stuck in.
- 48:26How much money can I make? Have I made it yet?
- 48:28Is everyone listening blah, blah, blah, blah blah.
- 48:30Like People can see through that shit you know.
- 48:33People are too intelligent especially now like you know
- 48:37they can see through that and once they see that it doesn't
- 48:40have a soul and all you care about is those things.
- 48:44You're never going to get, make it Evan. that's what I've
- 48:48noticed, but I totally like, if you make Souls music, you know,
- 48:53she make music that you don't mean, it's it's even personally,
- 48:59it's, I've experienced, like, there's a lot of artists that I
- 49:02know they're just saying stupid stuff like Playboy party, for
- 49:08instance, like, of course, I understand that he created vibe
- 49:12in create an atmosphere, but if you look at the lyrics it's like
- 49:17What's the point in having a rapper on the song If he's not
- 49:21going to say anything, you know? Like There's there's just a lot
- 49:26of controversy with like Mumble rap, you know, stuff like that.
- 49:32It's interesting. You know?
- 49:33Because like I felt like it all kind of depends as far as rap is
- 49:36concerned, on on like the purpose of the rat look is like,
- 49:39you know, you've got particular movements that you know, that's
- 49:44a movement that last say five or ten years and then the next
- 49:46thing comes along, right. But where is like other other
- 49:51rappers just kind of exists to. I I fill a particular spot like
- 49:56oh I'm the guy like the hype guy, I'm the guy that comes on
- 49:59the track and does this or whatever you know, there's
- 50:01always there's different functions in terms of like being
- 50:05a rapper in today's society, you know, versus like way back when
- 50:0920, 30 years ago, being a rapper was more more unique.
- 50:13You know what I mean? Yes, for example, hit his an
- 50:16example, like a lot of rappers now are kind of having to, to
- 50:20sing now as well. Like, they have to kind of
- 50:22diversify in that way. They can't just put out an album
- 50:25and only wrap and it's like why why can't you do that?
- 50:28But there's like this expectation from the industry
- 50:31from to a certain degree fans and like just musicians I guess
- 50:36in general like you know, you need to you need to do some
- 50:39singing. You need to, you know, put some
- 50:41notes on there as well. I can't just wrap.
- 50:43I agree. There's I don't know.
- 50:45It's weird. So unique and singing have so
- 50:58many different ways to sing. You don't like it.
- 51:01Well, I think that's that's the that's the key in there.
- 51:03So that's kind of what I'm alluding to as well as.
- 51:05Like if you're pushing your thing and you're not worried
- 51:07about like essentially Trends, then you're going to go far
- 51:11because you're just doing your thing.
- 51:13Whereas time Trends come and go. Like, they could last a couple
- 51:16of years. They could last five minutes,
- 51:18you know, he really, really don't know.
- 51:19It's for instance, like trap is really big right now, but like,
- 51:22how long is that realistic? You're Gonna Last, you know,
- 51:25you're there will be a point where people are like, okay,
- 51:27we've heard most of what you can do with trap.
- 51:30That's in terms of it being like experimental or interesting
- 51:34people move, it's like it. If you take heavy metal, you
- 51:37know, that I remember growing up in like sort of mid 2000s and
- 51:41early 2010's and like the theme them was like, how fast is your
- 51:45band, how fast can you go, how fast the, the double bass kicks
- 51:49and shit and there's like if you weren't fast your shit, you
- 51:52know, it's like Get out and like obviously that got to a point
- 51:56there was like a band that went faster than everyone and then
- 51:59it's like, okay well you know, what's the next thing?
- 52:02It's in an amine and then Jen came along and then you know the
- 52:06next thing after that and so on, it's I think it.
- 52:09Yeah, the point is, if you get stuck on those trends like
- 52:12you're chasing that rather than chasing your own creativity and
- 52:17your own, your own interest and Yap.
- 52:20It people in general have very low And spans I think.
- 52:25And that's the, that's the thing.
- 52:26Like, they're just one's that dumb of you that just you want
- 52:29to like go for that loyal fan base that you're going for like
- 52:32people that are like yourself, that makes it logical sense to
- 52:36me. Anyway, both people who try to
- 52:38buy into the lifestyle like you said, absolutely.
- 52:43Absolutely. And that is an interesting
- 52:47question. If you had to define the genre
- 52:51of your music or maybe describe the sound, how would you define
- 52:56that? because I struggled, So like my
- 53:06vocal range is like, like from falsetto all the way to like
- 53:12this, like weird. Wow, crazy growl.
- 53:17So I am able to do a lot of soft stuff so I like it's like if a
- 53:25joji could sing like the guy from Creed.
- 53:31Wow! A picture.
- 53:33Yeah! And then he made a emo rap in.
- 53:41Like, that's not coming back. Is it God?
- 53:46No, please, no redefined. So it's I mean, I know normal
- 53:53crunk, ya. Nah nah.
- 53:54Nah, I wouldn't even call it. Listen to More hearts for is
- 54:08definitely more hardcore than like, we don't use autotune like
- 54:12we're pretty much. Yeah, I mean.
- 54:17Well it, let's let's get on to it to your latest release.
- 54:20Let's move to that because I found this really interesting
- 54:23cause when I track back and I looked at your stuff that you
- 54:25released and say, 2018 2019, it followed kind of what you're
- 54:29talking about right now, that that kind of sound, it match
- 54:32that perfectly but then okay, so your most recent release, This
- 54:36is called Untitled August 25th and it differs greatly in terms
- 54:42of the sound and the style in comparison with the older work
- 54:45and I just write down some notes when I was listening to it and
- 54:49it kind of what I heard was like a kind of an old school 90s, R&B
- 54:54/ rap Vibe. It was really cool and
- 54:58refreshing and it was like this is totally different everything
- 55:01he's done before. And I guess my question is like
- 55:05is this like a Permanent change in your sound or is this like I
- 55:09want to try something different. I want to mix it up.
- 55:12See how this is received like what's the purpose with this
- 55:15particular release? It did it because I could I I
- 55:22love you. I wanted to make the sound so I
- 55:31just tried to make him Two concepts, which involves kind of
- 55:37like a romantic concept. Hmm. and then I wanted the
- 55:43aesthetic to be kind of like Kauai and then I just make the
- 55:50album. Just cuz did you feel out of
- 55:53your comfort zone doing it or did it feel comfortable?
- 55:56Oh yeah. Fucking sometimes like honestly
- 56:00is like writing pop stuff. Like trying to be poppy popish
- 56:07and doors. It's it's definitely like
- 56:14Selling out. I'm just kidding.
- 56:19I definitely wanted to practice just like that.
- 56:21Sound like just just like, it's just like a with me.
- 56:26Like, like I said, like my solo stuff is really experimental,
- 56:30okay? I'm like all over the place and
- 56:35You know, and that was just me playing around just seeing it
- 56:40like a good seeing if people would get that.
- 56:43It's a pop Vibe. Like I personally think it has
- 56:48legs. I mean, I think that, like, if
- 56:50that's something you wanted to do again in the future.
- 56:53Well, I'm personally down for it.
- 56:54I think it worked for you, and I think that you, you put your own
- 56:58your own Vibe like take on it, I think, more importantly like it
- 57:01wasn't. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't just
- 57:03straight up pop. It wasn't, it had like
- 57:06influences that are outside of your normal, kind of Is a
- 57:10Playbook, excuse me. But it works.
- 57:15And it fits. And I think that would I would
- 57:19say that. Practicing like those towns and
- 57:24practicing like, doing stuff like that has helped, like
- 57:29recording for a, we work like stuff, because whenever we drop
- 57:31this stuff, like my vocals, some pretty choice, but it seems to
- 57:39be positively sort of received, you know, like you.
- 57:43By the way, everyone listening to the podcast, you can find
- 57:46this on. Soundcloud I'll put a link to in
- 57:48the description. But yeah, like just the initial
- 57:53kind of vibe like, obviously this is just released but it's
- 57:55like people really dig it, they're into it, you know.
- 57:58So it's yeah. It's like opened up your
- 58:01potential in terms of like things you can do and things,
- 58:04you can mix. Yeah, I like to be out to show
- 58:07how versatile I can be. I'm just so Flex on people
- 58:11sometimes. Right?
- 58:14I'm going to switch things up and ask you something.
- 58:16Totally left field. This is more serious.
- 58:20So it's very serious, but I thought it was interesting
- 58:24because you don't necessarily see a lot of musicians doing
- 58:28this. Now, with everything that's
- 58:30going on in the world with black lives matter and protests and
- 58:33everything certain musicians are, you know, kind of being
- 58:39part of that and trying to contribute to that.
- 58:41And that includes you guys. And I, It was really cool that
- 58:44you actively out there protesting I guess, in in Texas,
- 58:48then this is Texas approaches. Okay, cool.
- 58:53Yeah. And and like I had to like
- 58:55double check and make sure because you referred to, as a
- 58:57movement and stuff. And I was like, oh what?
- 58:59What they like I presumed it was for BLM, by didn't know 100%,
- 59:03And then I looked, and as I okay, yet that's that's what
- 59:05they're performing for to be more specific.
- 59:09So there's videos you guys performing and kind of just, you
- 59:12know, marching And then just showing support you talked a
- 59:17little bit about this in terms of your personal experiences.
- 59:21You know, the progress. You guys made this talk to me a
- 59:25little bit about that. Okay.
- 59:29And then I was expecting. So ATX flow down, is the group
- 59:38that I was with during the protests.
- 59:41I wasn't like other boys quick, like show any political stance
- 59:46or anything, but me personally, you know, I obviously had of my
- 59:52political stances, the a text flow down is the Jazz group that
- 59:56you mentioned before? Yeah.
- 59:57That's the Jazz group. Yeah.
- 59:58And so we started so are riots. Already March 31st.
- 1:00:08And I had somebody who was killed by poison April on April
- 1:00:1524th, which is my birthday actually.
- 1:00:18Coincidentally. And So we know because George
- 1:00:25Floyd riots. We got out there and me and 86
- 1:00:31flow down. I was actually out of town.
- 1:00:33I was in Houston and I was like, oh shit, we got to get back and
- 1:00:38then Jim second was the first day that we started protesting.
- 1:00:46and we protested for pretty much too much straight, like, okay,
- 1:00:54like we did a lot of things such as We took on the moon and you
- 1:01:02know case which was a my going to get too specific, you know,
- 1:01:09but you're just a woman who had her child abducted by one of the
- 1:01:15police members through a series of technicalities.
- 1:01:23So I'll say that. And then we, you know, for when
- 1:01:28we play music, like for everybody, like we catered every
- 1:01:36single day, like you spent like over like $2500 like it's like
- 1:01:44literally honestly why we're kind of like in the shithole
- 1:01:46right now, we're kind of like recuperating from all of that.
- 1:01:53So but we were there a lot and we people never come up in
- 1:02:02freestyle, had them, come up and read poems.
- 1:02:06Had them come up and no sing for us and do whatever they wanted
- 1:02:12on the mic. You know, start chance anything
- 1:02:16and then went to Tulsa, I'm going to the Trump route.
- 1:02:20It was the first one. Yeah, we went to the first Trump
- 1:02:23rally of the year. Yeah, I was pretty epic and then
- 1:02:29we marched with the black lives matter Tulsa and the troopers
- 1:02:36were pretty pissed off at us. You go to tell me more or less
- 1:02:39like what happened? Like how what they do in?
- 1:02:42How do for one? It was it was night of June 13th
- 1:02:47left to go to Tulsa like we just like went from playing music
- 1:02:53downtown. Yep. straight Tolson sucked is
- 1:02:58really hard, and then, We get there in like we pass out in
- 1:03:04this Cafe and like a lettuce sleep there and stuff.
- 1:03:08Oh cool. Yeah.
- 1:03:10Because like it was already kind of like a hub for like Medics
- 1:03:13and stuff. And like there was a lot of
- 1:03:16Medics like they were geared up, like they were ready to fucking
- 1:03:20go. Like, but like we were passed
- 1:03:25out. He can with all the chaos going
- 1:03:27around us. We really just like knocked out
- 1:03:30and And we met up with black lives matter Tulsa.
- 1:03:36And like in Tulsa, it's very interesting because like, here
- 1:03:41we do have a lot of like Indian or Native American tribes, only
- 1:03:46thing. The Tulsa.
- 1:03:47It's very, very prominent, like a lot of the black community or
- 1:03:54part of, like, Native American. It's very interesting, like,
- 1:03:58hmm. Like I think the most prominent
- 1:04:00one was the black. A foot.
- 1:04:03Like they talked about the Blackfoot tribe a lot and it
- 1:04:07was, it was just like, really inspiring to March down Black
- 1:04:14Wall Street, which is in the 20s was like the most rich African
- 1:04:19American community and It was like massacred because of Envy
- 1:04:29from the white people. Yeah, it was terrible, it was
- 1:04:34really bad and yeah we were pretty much just playing jazz
- 1:04:39for them. Letting them wrap on the mic and
- 1:04:42saying their speeches and yeah we marched a really long ways
- 1:04:48and it was really, really fun, really inspiring.
- 1:04:53And they would literally success one.
- 1:04:56Like it gave us Insight on how to lead a peaceful protest and
- 1:05:02like not inside all the crap that people like to do, you know
- 1:05:07like to get them arrested and go crazy how how much, how will the
- 1:05:12police cut a generally during this whole time?
- 1:05:19Please sing all Center hard as fuck.
- 1:05:22Honestly they run over us with horses Express from like barely
- 1:05:30any reason them they are super apathetic to our injuries.
- 1:05:37Like we had somebody who was like shot and like they barely
- 1:05:42rushed to the scene, like it was terrible.
- 1:05:49But yeah, they hate us. We hate them a lot.
- 1:05:55And whether any different in toaster toaster is in Oklahoma,
- 1:06:01and is that? So I'll go some really ignorant.
- 1:06:03That is Oklahoma, is a state, isn't it?
- 1:06:06Yeah, that's a Texas is on the border of Mexico and the right
- 1:06:12on the border of Texas, right by right.
- 1:06:14So yeah, it's a different state. Yeah.
- 1:06:17What will the police like there? Were they any different?
- 1:06:20So now? Because well, Yes.
- 1:06:26They're extremely different because the president was in
- 1:06:29town. Yeah, they really didn't give a
- 1:06:36crap about us, like they realized that we were being
- 1:06:40peaceful. Like we had our own militias at
- 1:06:44at our route, like, we were running around with our own
- 1:06:48emotions and stuff and like everything was you know, Ike
- 1:06:52Yeah, we just marched in like chanted and you know, some
- 1:06:57trumpeters would pass by and get caught in the, you know, it
- 1:07:02caught in it but you know what, were they generally?
- 1:07:05Like because as a you know, a British man looking from an
- 1:07:11outsider's perspective, in what I see and what I hear is, you
- 1:07:15know, Trump sort of saying like, hey, you know, we need to be
- 1:07:18like Vigilant on protesters and you basically kind of like
- 1:07:21saying, Like all protesters are violent and, which is obviously
- 1:07:24bollocks. But, you know, he, they want to
- 1:07:27focus on right, right? That much is occurring.
- 1:07:30Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's just there's so many stories of that
- 1:07:35and it's so many people. I mean, I see, I see a lot of it
- 1:07:38on Twitter of people, you know, say like hey this is what the
- 1:07:41media isn't, reporting kind of thing, right?
- 1:07:45So given that. Okay, so Trump's Trump's there
- 1:07:49is Trump rally. You guys are there Is there, is
- 1:07:53there any kind of like fights between you guys?
- 1:07:58I mean, you guys, right? So, I should, I should reiterate
- 1:08:00it on y Min with this. You guys are being peaceful and
- 1:08:06that's how these things always start that.
- 1:08:08Like, you know, any violence that incurs typically comes from
- 1:08:12that, like Trump side, or like, and this, for those who don't
- 1:08:18like conspiracy, I mean, this, this is actual fact that there
- 1:08:21are people that I work for the government who are basically
- 1:08:25told to, like, try to start violence, so they do things
- 1:08:29like, you know, like I saw one video where it was like there
- 1:08:32was a bunch of bricks that were laid in a particular area, like,
- 1:08:36hey, take the bricks smash the windows because if you do that
- 1:08:40we get to you know, beat the shit out of you basically.
- 1:08:44And that's the thing, like all of the BLM, protests have been,
- 1:08:47like, like pretty much 99% like, you know, peaceful. because, you
- 1:08:52know, the whole point is that, you know, We want to peacefully
- 1:08:57protest, put forward the fact that you know, this is what we
- 1:09:00believe and that like you know the government needs to take
- 1:09:03action and things need to change.
- 1:09:05Right? That is really clear.
- 1:09:06And like the only way you going to do that is by peacefully,
- 1:09:09putting that across. I know there's arguments that
- 1:09:11you know, like maybe violence is the answer.
- 1:09:13But I don't think violence is never the answer personally.
- 1:09:17And if anything that this whole time, it's kind of proven that
- 1:09:22like, that, that violence is coming from.
- 1:09:25That Trump kind of group if you like, you know, that's fear.
- 1:09:30It's like they think the best idea is to just, you know, stamp
- 1:09:36on things and try and try and Stamp Out people's voices, but
- 1:09:39you can't do that like, you know, it's especially with what
- 1:09:42we're talking about, you know, it's and to the extent that it's
- 1:09:45got to. But anyway, to get to get to my
- 1:09:47point like, What were those Trump supporters like towards
- 1:09:53you guys? Like they are they kind of
- 1:09:56trying to like provoke you or the police trying to provoke you
- 1:10:00or like, what's the kind of situation with that?
- 1:10:01Because you're marching past, you know, you're being vocal,
- 1:10:04but you're being respectful. But obviously they're not
- 1:10:07necessarily always being like that.
- 1:10:08So what are they like? so, There's a lot of times.
- 1:10:18And like I have seen the bricks being laid out, that was weird.
- 1:10:25So I don't know if I don't know if that was a coincidence or if
- 1:10:29that was real, but I did study, it's not coincidence that.
- 1:10:32I, I've literally seen videos of, like, I don't know if it's
- 1:10:37police officers or like, I don't know, whatever, but like
- 1:10:42deliberately walking down streets smashing windows.
- 1:10:46Like like kind of routinely in a weird like not actually
- 1:10:49attacking anyone, just deliberately smashing the
- 1:10:50windows as a kind of, you know, precursor to be like right, we
- 1:10:54can arrest everyone, we can use Force because look what they've
- 1:10:56done which yeah, yeah, anyway, so we have had some like back
- 1:11:04the blue people and Trump supporters, which back the blue
- 1:11:08is like they support police. They say we wives matter.
- 1:11:16Oh, so that's where that comes from.
- 1:11:19I never knew that. Okay.
- 1:11:21All right. I thought it was just people
- 1:11:24taking the piss on to it, huh? Fair enough?
- 1:11:29All right. Ya know.
- 1:11:31They're, they're super serious about.
- 1:11:33It's really weird that Because I'm just going to say, like,
- 1:11:39that ideal, like, you can't choose to be, you know, your
- 1:11:43skin color, right? Of course, and choose what, what
- 1:11:47career you have? So it's like, dude and because
- 1:11:51not all peace officers are like, obviously like yeah, there's
- 1:11:54plenty of decent good officers like everywhere, it's more.
- 1:11:59I always call it. I was referred to it as
- 1:12:03institutional racism. So like the top, the top end,
- 1:12:07the people that are in charge are the racist and that filters
- 1:12:10down and enables racists to them become part of the police force.
- 1:12:15So it's not necessarily that like the police are racist, is
- 1:12:17that the people can Trolling the police, and the people are the
- 1:12:21enablers, and the ones that are actually racist.
- 1:12:24But it's the reason I say institution was because it's at
- 1:12:27the top level. But it's enabled by like the
- 1:12:29government and heads of states and stuff.
- 1:12:33Yeah. Trace the laptop and, to a
- 1:12:37certain extent, we have that in England as well.
- 1:12:40I don't know that it's necessarily on on the same level
- 1:12:46as America, but I definitely have seen my race.
- 1:12:49I mean in in Britain, it as far as like, piece is concerned and
- 1:12:54police like, you know, over using their power when they
- 1:12:57shouldn't and so on it's a very common thing, but it's more it's
- 1:13:03much more prevalent in America. And I guess that the confusion
- 1:13:08element is because like every state is different.
- 1:13:10It's almost like a mini country. So you've got like as you as you
- 1:13:13explained in the earlier, in our conversation, you know, you've
- 1:13:15got that, that Federal level state level and in Municipal
- 1:13:19level. So it differs according to that,
- 1:13:24because I've seen so many things like state-by-state, like one
- 1:13:27state, you know, Pisa acting unacceptably and then another
- 1:13:31state they're like really peaceful like marching on with
- 1:13:35the blm's protest and Kind of doing what piece do you know
- 1:13:40supporting and making sure everyone's safe.
- 1:13:43So it's very confusing. It's honestly like city-by-city
- 1:13:48like because Austin is one of the most likely liberal seized
- 1:13:57in Texas but like there's some places around us where it's like
- 1:14:05completely back the blue rallies and like there's no barely any
- 1:14:10black lives matter. And like if you do a bill one
- 1:14:14thing, like you're extremely like my heart like really want
- 1:14:21to fuck you up. For some reason, makes no sense.
- 1:14:27Yeah, I don't know why they're so scrim innate against still
- 1:14:31like. There's no point he gets 20, 20
- 1:14:35people. I mean, dude, there's still
- 1:14:38people much like KKK uniforms in America in 2020 and now this is
- 1:14:45still something that happens and and the police allow it.
- 1:14:49Now, I know you like what happened recently with, I don't
- 1:14:52know the names specifically but the guy who shot like the white
- 1:14:56guy who shot, Two people and killed them and the police just
- 1:14:59let him go. Yeah, like the rest of them,
- 1:15:04they arrested him eventually locally.
- 1:15:06So hopefully he's tried for those groups.
- 1:15:10I think the immediate response do tells you everything.
- 1:15:13I mean, it's just so like, it's like, it's like, when there's
- 1:15:17like a court case, right? And there's so much overwhelming
- 1:15:21evidence to say that a person is guilty, but then the judge is
- 1:15:26like, hmm. Well, I don't know, you know and
- 1:15:29it's like dude come on. Like there's So much like it's
- 1:15:34gone beyond the point of like doubt at this point it's like
- 1:15:39Beyond ridiculous. It's like okay there's a really
- 1:15:43big problem and it need hat. Like it's not even that we
- 1:15:46should resolve. This is like it has to change.
- 1:15:50Like if nothing else I think BLM has shown and then like the
- 1:15:55amount of people that have been just unjustly killed for no
- 1:15:58reason and it's been sort of explained away is the biggest
- 1:16:03problem here. You know, like just kind of
- 1:16:09trying to justify that is just all kinds of just crazy to.
- 1:16:14Yeah. Just hoping all those people
- 1:16:18just dialing, then I hope they see sense.
- 1:16:24I think that's what I hoped for because we're all human at the
- 1:16:29end of the day, and that would be so cool if they could though,
- 1:16:35anything's possible. Dude, you have no idea how
- 1:16:37brainwashed they are. The oh no.
- 1:16:40No, I do. I mean, if we've got them in
- 1:16:43England Butler. We've got, we've got people,
- 1:16:48we've got like, for example, we have this group in England,
- 1:16:51called the edl, which stands for the English Defence League.
- 1:16:56It's basically a bunch of white people that get together and
- 1:17:02they're racists and they basically just it's not even
- 1:17:05like a political really. I mean, it's just a big group of
- 1:17:08people that get together and just, you know, Target like
- 1:17:12Muslim communities for example and just smash up places.
- 1:17:15Fights, get violent and just generally horrible racist.
- 1:17:20And there's a few of these groups ends and there's a few
- 1:17:25political parties as well. There are, you know, racist and
- 1:17:29they've kind of been exposed and largely.
- 1:17:31I just mocked and not taken seriously.
- 1:17:33But, you know, surprising how much support that they gained.
- 1:17:38There's been some instances where they've earned seats in
- 1:17:44Parliament, In in the European Parts, when we were part of the
- 1:17:48EU, we had what, what you would call an MEP.
- 1:17:51So it's a member of the European Parliament and they were voted
- 1:17:54in by section of the British public.
- 1:17:58So there you go. Yeah, racism is everywhere, man.
- 1:18:05Obviously but it's kind of mad when it's in that organized way
- 1:18:10and I think a lot of the time It's not obvious racism in the
- 1:18:17sense that like your average person walking on the street
- 1:18:20isn't probably not racist. Jenna mean, it's, it's, I think
- 1:18:23it's a it's always going to be that smaller percentage, but
- 1:18:26that smaller percentage on vocal about it, they keep it to
- 1:18:30themselves kind of thing. You're like, one of my previous
- 1:18:35guest I had, I had this joke with we're kind of they're the
- 1:18:40sort of people that like they'll walk in a room and they'll try
- 1:18:44and test the waters. As with people and be like, you
- 1:18:46know, for like a little bit of a racist joke up there or like,
- 1:18:49say like, oh yeah, these people the problem, right?
- 1:18:51And then they'll see what people say.
- 1:18:53And if everyone's like, yeah, then it's like, okay, great.
- 1:18:55I'm with my people and if it's like not like that, then they're
- 1:18:59like, they're just shut up and not say anything, just like
- 1:19:02hide. And that's the reality of being
- 1:19:05a racist at least in your the UK.
- 1:19:07But in an America I suppose the problem or is that like you
- 1:19:12know, like the government kind of, almost like Enables, you
- 1:19:16know, like you hear Trump come out and say that he supports BLM
- 1:19:19and stuff but it's come on, it didn't mean it's not he's not
- 1:19:24done anything concrete. That actually helps people
- 1:19:27protects people. He's just kind of like start
- 1:19:31while starting the war and on T3 and T4 and just kind of I don't
- 1:19:36know, trying to draw attention away from that, I guess, but
- 1:19:41whatever. Anyway, just want to say a big
- 1:19:43thank you for sharing that I appreciate.
- 1:19:45I know it's quite serious and a bit of a deviation, but I just
- 1:19:48really wanted to talk about that with you because of seeing your
- 1:19:52involvement in that I thought that was really cool and it's
- 1:19:55something that should be shared and spoken about a little bit.
- 1:19:59So moving on. And let's, let's go into more
- 1:20:01positive topics, bring it back to what you're talking about.
- 1:20:06Your work with animals. You describe yourself as an
- 1:20:10animal behaviorist. Tell me more about that.
- 1:20:14Yeah man. So whenever I was in high school
- 1:20:19I bread and and you know, what showing and livestock animal is
- 1:20:28no idea. So, here in Texas or here in
- 1:20:32America. We have the FFA which is
- 1:20:38essentially Future Farmers of America, right?
- 1:20:42And we're able to raise our own livestock and then present them
- 1:20:48for it to a judge and then, you know, based on their judgment,
- 1:20:53you can win first prize essentially, okay.
- 1:20:57In layman's terms So I did that and I was pretty good at
- 1:21:04training, my goats and take care of my babies and that's kind of
- 1:21:09how I got into animal husbandry and you know, sharing animals
- 1:21:13and you know giving medication and then I got a lot of money
- 1:21:19from that. So I went to school for it and
- 1:21:24she got like a scholarship or something like that or no.
- 1:21:28It was it was a independent. Just like winnings from a hot.
- 1:21:35Yeah, just like yeah it's so it's so Mike Backwoods country
- 1:21:43shit, right? No.
- 1:21:46I mean I'm I'm not from Austin. I'm from a small town, like 30
- 1:21:53minutes outside awesome. I don't think there's anything
- 1:21:57wrong with country. You know, I've lived and worked
- 1:22:00on farms. As myself in other countries.
- 1:22:02And I think if anything is good for the soul, I think more
- 1:22:07people should do that should experience it because, you know,
- 1:22:12obviously dating back in history, you know, that's,
- 1:22:14that's how life was. That's how people lived, you
- 1:22:17know, this civilization that we have.
- 1:22:19Now, former in terms of City living has meant that like I
- 1:22:24have friends in sometimes referred to as like old
- 1:22:28knowledge, but it's true. You know me like in a situation
- 1:22:32where like here's something interesting, right?
- 1:22:35When this pandemic started, I started Googling seeds.
- 1:22:39You know, like for just like vegetables and stuff.
- 1:22:42I was just curious to see like, you know, they cut the types of
- 1:22:46seeds you can get and stuff like because I'd like to start
- 1:22:48collecting at some point and just thinking ahead, you know,
- 1:22:53then eventually if I have land or whatever And I went on a
- 1:22:57couple of websites and they were like, Eva sold out or like
- 1:23:01really, really expensive. It's like a lot of people had
- 1:23:04had this idea of like this is what we need to be doing this.
- 1:23:07You know. You know, we need to start
- 1:23:08stockpiling. This stuff, you know, like smart
- 1:23:10people, you know, your average person is going and going like a
- 1:23:14fucking, don't have toilet roll. That's what your average
- 1:23:16person's doing. But the smart people are like no
- 1:23:19I need to be investing in like seeds and stuff because like for
- 1:23:22example, if the economy is fucked, right, And money is no
- 1:23:27longer worth anything. Things like seeds are going to
- 1:23:29be the new currency. Well, that's, that's the reality
- 1:23:34of the situation. Trash currency, we're going to
- 1:23:37use these cubes of trash as currency will subtract.
- 1:23:41The gummies is anything that sustains life, isn't it?
- 1:23:44You know, it's like seeds, it's imagine materials, you know, to
- 1:23:50build and such will drive up in price and stuff but like we will
- 1:23:56be trading again, we're well, we've always been trading as a
- 1:23:59species, but you know what I mean?
- 1:24:00Like money. Money money.
- 1:24:03Just exist. Is that thing of like, I
- 1:24:07suppose. It's Maurice.
- 1:24:08Ease-of-use really isn't. It's quicker.
- 1:24:10It's quicker than, you know. It's quicker for me to be like,
- 1:24:13hey, here's I don't know. $200 give me that go verses are okay.
- 1:24:18Let's trade this Ox for this goat like that.
- 1:24:21And obviously that's a stupid trade, but you get my point.
- 1:24:24It's like, you know, actually facilitating that trade is a
- 1:24:28pain in the ass. So that's where like I do.
- 1:24:30Imagine where money kind of originally came into play.
- 1:24:33It's like, yeah, let's use this, you know.
- 1:24:37Before that it was it was gold. But yeah.
- 1:24:41Anyway I'm getting into the weeds so I just I find this
- 1:24:44stuff. Interesting.
- 1:24:46No no yeah no. I'd love to live in a free
- 1:24:49market economy. The amazing.
- 1:24:51Well I mean whatever it's probably where we're headed to
- 1:24:56be interesting. Move it forward.
- 1:25:00You have a very kind of unique personal style in terms of just
- 1:25:04like your fashion, how you dress and stuff.
- 1:25:06Tough. And Yeah, it's a total us a
- 1:25:10little bit about this. Like what what, inspires that,
- 1:25:12where it comes from. Like I know for many people, it
- 1:25:16can be, you know, just, yeah. Just what you like to do.
- 1:25:19And I mean, it's fair, but like, yours is like really out there,
- 1:25:24it varies very greatly and I just wonder like, is there
- 1:25:27anyone or anything that inspires that or is it just kind of like
- 1:25:31yeah I see it. I buy.
- 1:25:32I like it. Like what's the deal with that?
- 1:25:35So most of my outfits cost and Probably like five dollars.
- 1:25:43I'm really digging the thrifting come I don't know.
- 1:25:48Like a lot of the times I get lucky and I'll find some
- 1:25:55dope-ass shirt or something or maybe like my girl, let me be
- 1:26:05like borrow a shirt or something in it, you know, and it looks
- 1:26:08dope on me, I don't know. Because I'm also like a model
- 1:26:15for like a lot of thrift stores and stuff.
- 1:26:17Tough. Oh, Mike Well, they're more like
- 1:26:22resale stores, their circles are a lot cheaper.
- 1:26:25But yeah, these places are like, they buy and trade clothes and
- 1:26:30stuff. And it's like, really big here
- 1:26:33and, or I guess in general. Just that vintage clothing,
- 1:26:40trading thing. And, yeah, sometimes, don't let
- 1:26:44me wear their clothes and I'll just use their photos.
- 1:26:50But they take of me. Did you do do what you get my
- 1:26:55paid for that? Or do they give you like, free
- 1:26:56clothes or something? What's the, what's the deal
- 1:26:58there? I've gotten free clothes.
- 1:27:01I've gotten my eyes. I've got tons of shows, out of
- 1:27:05it on his own, really? Yeah, seen me with me up on
- 1:27:10this. No.
- 1:27:12And then they hit me up. Interesting, if If they use me,
- 1:27:19they're trying to go for like a certain aesthetic that day,
- 1:27:23right? Yeah.
- 1:27:24Then you know since it's such a weird out of I'm being like
- 1:27:30honestly like I don't ever really think of myself is that
- 1:27:34out of like I just have like dyed hair.
- 1:27:40Yeah I didn't mean to suck kind of like make you feel
- 1:27:42uncomfortable snot Because unique being reminded of like
- 1:27:50how they look at me, okay? I'm just like, yeah, they look
- 1:27:56at me as like some, like edgy, dude.
- 1:28:00I think it's interesting to know what I mean.
- 1:28:02Like, me personally, I'm for instance, like my taste in
- 1:28:04women, I'm interested in women. That look different to another
- 1:28:08mean. Like, if I just see someone when
- 1:28:10woman walking down the street, and she's just wearing, like, I
- 1:28:13don't know the latest fashion trend, like I'm more interested
- 1:28:16in that, but If she's wearing that maybe she's got some
- 1:28:18piercings and dyed hair or like maybe she's like she likes
- 1:28:23thrift store staff or maybe she's you know into like more
- 1:28:27classic clothing like something different.
- 1:28:30Something you don't see everyday.
- 1:28:31It's like it draws you in so well that's interesting I want
- 1:28:34to know more and that's kind of like what I mean with that I
- 1:28:37think that's probably as well why people were drawn drawn so
- 1:28:41drawn to you is because it's like you presenting something
- 1:28:45that is different from what they see.
- 1:28:47Read a therefore it's more interesting and then it kind of
- 1:28:52expands with like the music that you're doing.
- 1:28:54Because again, it's not the music that everyone hears all
- 1:28:57the time, maybe I can definitely see that for sure.
- 1:29:05What does music mean to you? Is me.
- 1:29:12Music is music. Music.
- 1:29:21Well I wasn't. We also the Deep questions on
- 1:29:27the Christian podcast. Well music is a way for Myself
- 1:29:39and others to express themselves, either verbally or
- 1:29:44no through their instruments. But also music can be widely
- 1:29:51defined as like pretty much any noise.
- 1:29:54So it's hard for me to say what music is CI that's why I
- 1:30:01disagree, right? Because you know that your deep
- 1:30:04guy, you know, you have like hashtag existentialism on your
- 1:30:09Instagram page. That's why it's so hard to put a
- 1:30:14definite on music. So Essentially.
- 1:30:22I try to appreciate every noise like every single day.
- 1:30:28I'm listening for new samples. I'm listening for, you know,
- 1:30:33things such as sound, good. Like, I've freestyle to like
- 1:30:38car, alarms, going off and like, hey, well at the end of, at the
- 1:30:43end of that Untitled, August 25th.
- 1:30:46I have the freestyle and like I was me just like singing off the
- 1:30:51Dome and I just like to rain. Yeah, I heard that.
- 1:30:55I remembered that. I thought I was really cool.
- 1:30:58Yeah, I do. Yeah.
- 1:30:59So I basically I was high as fuck on friend and I was like
- 1:31:05sad as hell about like a recent breakup and Sloan had just
- 1:31:12gotten arrested and Yeah, I just wanted to take the day off at
- 1:31:17day and yeah, it was raining heavy as fuck and I was out in
- 1:31:23that van. That was we renovated.
- 1:31:26So, you know, I was just shrooming out of there and I
- 1:31:31don't know. I was just feeling it and I
- 1:31:35thought I could come up with a song and that's what ended up
- 1:31:38coming out when you did shrooms. Did you smoke as well?
- 1:31:41Yeah, I always there. I always have to have a bunch of
- 1:31:44weed. The one only time I ever did
- 1:31:46streams, I because we always would smoke weed anyway and I
- 1:31:51remember the day very clearly. It was a school friend of mine
- 1:31:56and him and his brother would regularly go shroom picking like
- 1:31:59every Autumn some shit when it was in season and they would get
- 1:32:04a lot. Like I remember we were at his
- 1:32:06house just regularly that we'd always go there and weekends and
- 1:32:08get high and play music and just have fun.
- 1:32:12And he he had a fucking baking tray.
- 1:32:17Full with mushrooms. I'd never seen so many mushrooms
- 1:32:20in my life and they were all dried ready and everything.
- 1:32:23And I'm just looking at this and I know nothing about shrooms at
- 1:32:25this point. I'm like just clueless 13 year
- 1:32:28olds like just fucking idiot and you know, so we're we've already
- 1:32:34know. I don't think weed weed smoking
- 1:32:36just yet. We're so we're, we're sober at
- 1:32:39this point if you want to call it that and I he said God and
- 1:32:44try one. So I just tried a couple These
- 1:32:47light fucking take more than that.
- 1:32:49So I take a big handful. Like maybe 20 and yeah, and I'm
- 1:32:57like, they were fresh-picked, right?
- 1:33:00I know said they were like dried out like, okay, cool.
- 1:33:05Yeah, I ate them all and I was just like, nothing, like, what
- 1:33:11was this? You know, like not knowing,
- 1:33:13like, my impending doom and then we go.
- 1:33:16Downstairs and we smoke this variety of weed called pollen,
- 1:33:22which is pretty potent stuff. I don't know if they still do
- 1:33:24it, but it's pretty, it's pretty intense stuff and I remember
- 1:33:30because I don't do drugs anymore but when I did there were like,
- 1:33:34you know, you always have like that that your top five like
- 1:33:36most high of all time. And this was one of those it was
- 1:33:40like I remember is that mid-2000s that YouTube had just
- 1:33:44become a thing and back? Then it was Just fucking weird.
- 1:33:48It was like top. Trumps in terms of like what's
- 1:33:51the weirdest video that you can find kind of thing?
- 1:33:53And we were just sitting there unbelievably High out of our my
- 1:33:57staring at this screen and I shit you not.
- 1:33:59It was like some sort of dance techno music with people like
- 1:34:03marching on the screen like And we will just like, and I just, I
- 1:34:11kind of blacked out. I don't really remember much.
- 1:34:14I just remember, just intense staring and being out there and
- 1:34:20very, very high. Oh yeah, that sounds like a
- 1:34:29awful. I've never overdosed on shrooms.
- 1:34:32No, I died. Like, it's not sensible thing to
- 1:34:35do. Yeah.
- 1:34:37And that would that would be hilarious.
- 1:34:41So that the times that I've often the times, I've got the
- 1:34:44most highest have been purely by accident, like there was one
- 1:34:47time where the guy sold us like three bouts of weed and he'd
- 1:34:54laced them with different things.
- 1:34:56And one of them was laced with ketamine, which I found out
- 1:34:58afterwards and I was fine, but it was the most probably Yeah,
- 1:35:08the most high I've ever been in my entire life.
- 1:35:10I remember it was a really hot day like 30 degrees.
- 1:35:14It's really hot summer and we're all sitting in a group and I
- 1:35:20remember just being freezing cold, really cold shivering.
- 1:35:24And I turned to this girl next to me.
- 1:35:26And I'm just like, ah, as freezing, isn't it?
- 1:35:29And she's like, just looks at me, like, I'm mentals.
- 1:35:31Thus, like, what are you talking about?
- 1:35:33It's boiling. And I'm like, that's my first
- 1:35:36like, uh, And then the second thing that happened, it's really
- 1:35:42weird to explain this. I mean I felt like a dream.
- 1:35:44It was like imagine that you're watching your life like you're
- 1:35:48sitting in a theater and you're watching your life on the screen
- 1:35:52and then every one or two minutes you kind of jump back
- 1:35:57into yourself and you are you again and then you drop back and
- 1:36:02forth and back and forth and it was basically like that for like
- 1:36:04a good hour and then eventually I I was smoking the ketamine
- 1:36:09room. Yeah, it was crazy.
- 1:36:13That's awful. It was kind of scary.
- 1:36:17Yeah. I mean I joke about it now but
- 1:36:19like at the time I was kind of I remember my heartbeat going and
- 1:36:24I and it was like I need to calm down like I need to just chill
- 1:36:27and every element every time I would kind of come back into
- 1:36:30myself and feel cold. I was like right okay we're back
- 1:36:34for like a minute. Let's just relax.
- 1:36:37Drink some water, just calm down, it'll go away.
- 1:36:41It's okay. And I was like because I You
- 1:36:45know, I it's who could I call? I couldn't be like, hey mom,
- 1:36:48guess what? Like, you know.
- 1:36:49I mean like I and she would have lost their mind if I don't think
- 1:36:53she knows this as well. So if you're watching sorry Mom.
- 1:36:59Yeah, it's kind of crazy. But anyway, that's that's that's
- 1:37:04fucking funny. What's the what's the highest
- 1:37:06you've ever been, right? What was your experience?
- 1:37:14Like a fun one or a sad one. Oh shit.
- 1:37:17Okay maybe let's start with the sad one and end on the good one.
- 1:37:23Then that's kind of nice balance.
- 1:37:25Okay. Okay, let's do it.
- 1:37:27All right, I don't know who's watching, brother.
- 1:37:30Hope you're ready. When I was 16.
- 1:37:37I was riding around with my friends and Ended up going to
- 1:37:44one of my friends house and it was like pretty much.
- 1:37:48He had like Freedom. Like his mom didn't give a fuck
- 1:37:51what he did it in. Like she was like really
- 1:37:54successful. So I always get really fucking
- 1:38:05high over there and Basically, one of my friends, he had a
- 1:38:12bunch of pills like oh, wow, okay, yeah, uppers downers,
- 1:38:17everything just kidding. Now, what he had was what was it
- 1:38:27I took a To muscle relaxers re antidepressants in to Vicodins.
- 1:38:37Oh my God. I took them all and then crazy
- 1:38:43man that smoke to hella weed and yeah, it is my impending doom
- 1:38:52and was soon to come, I toughed it out and I never had to go get
- 1:38:56my stomach pumped under anything.
- 1:38:58I didn't die. But I Fuck.
- 1:39:01I mean it should have in Jesus but I definitely lost control of
- 1:39:09my body and was blacking out. And yeah it was a Yeah, cuz
- 1:39:17there was like, I remember levels to it, because I was
- 1:39:20somehow, I was conscious the whole time, like, the entire
- 1:39:24time. I was very conscious, but like,
- 1:39:27I couldn't, like, I couldn't walk.
- 1:39:29I couldn't do anything. But, and then like, I'd
- 1:39:32recognize when I was blacking out and then I'd come back and
- 1:39:35realize that I'm back, you know, like I was completely conscious
- 1:39:39somehow, hmm, dumb. Luckily, I'm able to be like
- 1:39:42that most of the time when I'm high, even when I'm on streams,
- 1:39:46or Vanilla's. Do you like I'm still like me at
- 1:39:48the center. It's like I'm able to talk my
- 1:39:52debt myself down a little bit. But anyways, so yeah.
- 1:39:59We're I take the pills and they're all like, you take all
- 1:40:02of them and I'm like, yeah, and now I can fucking crazy.
- 1:40:05That was nuts, should have done that and said that thing in
- 1:40:11Harry Potter. I should know.
- 1:40:33at this point I'm just like kind of like acting like a fool movie
- 1:40:41a little bit and like it's really funny and Like I was I'm
- 1:40:49good I'm like being annoying like I would consider myself
- 1:40:52annoying even though they're laughing and shit like then I
- 1:40:55like calm down and then we parked somewhere and at that
- 1:41:01point like get it kicked in like completely in like a shit.
- 1:41:06I was just like passed out and then like I'd come back and
- 1:41:09realize we're still where we were parked and then like a bong
- 1:41:14got handed to me. And I tried to hit it as my
- 1:41:17first time to ever heard of Ang and I hit it.
- 1:41:22And I blew the water all the way to the spout back into the
- 1:41:27Banya. And yeah, I was, I was a, I was
- 1:41:33the belle of the ball that night I remembered.
- 1:41:39Like when I did friends, I've been friends, he got me home and
- 1:41:43my God. Okay, yeah, it washed.
- 1:41:45They were My pants then like I didn't throw up at all.
- 1:41:49Like I didn't like, you know, need to, you know, get I didn't
- 1:41:54feel the need to get my stomach pumped.
- 1:41:56Like I was just like gone. Yeah.
- 1:41:59I think if you ever are going to do drugs, like you got to be
- 1:42:02with people and in a safe place as well somewhere secure?
- 1:42:08Yeah just safe place. Yeah.
- 1:42:11Most def most but the most Have fun high I've ever been in
- 1:42:23college. We took shrooms.
- 1:42:28We used to sell pretty big back then and we just decided to try
- 1:42:34to get into the shrimp game but we ended up buying an ounce and
- 1:42:37taking all of it, but the first one sitting.
- 1:42:42No, no, no, no, that's good. Say you eventually sell my crew
- 1:42:46does singing, it was really chill.
- 1:42:50But yeah, the first time we dosed we took like four, eat
- 1:42:56four grams each and like it was like, we got this shit like off
- 1:43:00the dark web and like, it was like, supposed to be like and
- 1:43:04look potent. And it wants you to mentally was
- 1:43:07like, like, I've never been so fucking high.
- 1:43:11I've never had such a great time in my life, doing nothing like,
- 1:43:16like the adventure that we went on.
- 1:43:18Like so, like, back back in the You know, my old College days
- 1:43:22like, I would free run my like this block being all cool.
- 1:43:26Yeah, yeah. We do have like a bunch of
- 1:43:28stuff. A couple of you parkour High.
- 1:43:31Man. You're crazy.
- 1:43:35We did not do. We didn't park or on shrooms?
- 1:43:39Let's say it was a terrible idea that skateboarding drunk.
- 1:43:50One time and that was a big mistake.
- 1:43:52That's so. We take the shrooms and we're
- 1:44:01waiting for him to kick in and this is the first dose of had in
- 1:44:04probably like a year and a half like since I've been in high
- 1:44:07school like so am I like? All right.
- 1:44:10This is gonna be a big one. So like we're playing basketball
- 1:44:14down at the apartment courts and like, I don't know, I just feel
- 1:44:20weird. And I just like, look up at the
- 1:44:23clouds, like I lay down and all of a sudden, the clouds are like
- 1:44:28Road Standing inside themselves and I'm like, oh my gosh, it's
- 1:44:31happening and oh stop ruining the vibe and you're
- 1:44:49like you don't understand. Like luckily we were all on the
- 1:44:56same level and like okay, Experimental level like yo
- 1:45:00everybody let like we need to know whenever it kicks you know
- 1:45:04like yeah this is like so I was like the first one to get hit.
- 1:45:09See you in this like are y'all hitting it yet?
- 1:45:13And they eventually like they was they started tripping pretty
- 1:45:17good. And yeah, we just walked around
- 1:45:20rr3 running around and like we tried to climb trees and stuff
- 1:45:26but it was fucking hard like one of Of my buddies fell out of the
- 1:45:30tree like, landing on his ass. Pretty funny.
- 1:45:34And yeah, if a cop or I've somebody would have talked to
- 1:45:42us. Like they would have definitely
- 1:45:44known that. We were wrong.
- 1:45:46I'm in the one and only time that a peace officer called me.
- 1:45:49Hi, it was so bad. Like any?
- 1:45:53We were lucky but it was like we were in this local park.
- 1:45:56He was patrolling. He was a tall guy. we like,
- 1:46:00Again must have been 14 ish give or take and I we quickly tried
- 1:46:09to hide our weed, but he's like just quit it but he's really,
- 1:46:13he's like the chillest. Peace officer.
- 1:46:15You've ever met in your life. Who's just?
- 1:46:16Like I know what you're doing. I'm with me.
- 1:46:20Fuck. And I'm just sitting there
- 1:46:23thinking like damn man, my mom's gonna kill me and like this is
- 1:46:27the end of me and fuck fuck fuck fuck.
- 1:46:30But unlike in like, I might get arrested and like, oh, shit.
- 1:46:33And then, he just walks over and he's just like, I know what
- 1:46:38you're doing. How much have you had?
- 1:46:41And we're like, I'm tempted to lie but I'm like, he's been
- 1:46:44leveling with me. I'm just gonna level with him.
- 1:46:46I might not like, you know, where high, but it's fine and
- 1:46:50he's like Okay you guys live nearby?
- 1:46:54My like yeah he's like okay well look I don't want you doing this
- 1:46:59anymore. Relax, take care of yourselves,
- 1:47:04maybe Nest, less keep this to a low and we're like, okay, okay.
- 1:47:12And we're like, looking at our like, is this really happening?
- 1:47:14Is he really like letting letting us go and he says, like
- 1:47:19see you later. And we're like holy fuck.
- 1:47:21Isn't a joke. He's actually letting us do
- 1:47:24this. Oh my God.
- 1:47:26And then we decided to get even more high after that.
- 1:47:30Yeah, hell yeah. Oh, yeah, shit.
- 1:47:33Dude, I have tons of getting away with weed and like, lying
- 1:47:38to the cops or is man. It's what's your best one?
- 1:47:41What's your best FIB? Or best getting away story?
- 1:47:46So we were on tour. I was on tour with only would
- 1:47:49click and I was driving and Willis's and my passengers to
- 1:47:55see and then CODIS. Behind Willis and then we have
- 1:48:00our friends. Richard.
- 1:48:05Sorry I um but yeah so Richards in the back and we brought like
- 1:48:13couples Ann's and we brought a couple ounces and basically I
- 1:48:21told them not to bring any federal offenses.
- 1:48:26Okay. Like don't bring any
- 1:48:28prescription pills. Don't bring more than 2 ounces.
- 1:48:31Like don't don't bro Federal Like rules since we're traveling
- 1:48:37because my sticker is out. My registration stickers up, we
- 1:48:41are inevitably going to get pulled over. and they're like,
- 1:48:45all right, whatever, but Willis is dumb and he brought you know,
- 1:48:50prescriptions and Then Richard, you know, he brought a bunch of
- 1:48:57weed himself anyway and because we like to, like, kind of like
- 1:49:03so weed whenever we get to show. Yeah.
- 1:49:06It's pretty, it's pretty easy. It's pretty easy to do.
- 1:49:11I don't know how I feel about this.
- 1:49:13A good Mix famous, but part of me is like, hmm.
- 1:49:16This is a good marketing techniques is clever and pop,
- 1:49:19he's like, no, you shouldn't be selling drugs to your fans.
- 1:49:25You get high with us. Why not?
- 1:49:27Again with this. It's okay, but not weeds great.
- 1:49:35Um, but yeah, now we got pulled over in a small town and I
- 1:49:40didn't know Willis had. I didn't know how much anybody
- 1:49:43has. Like I just assumed that they
- 1:49:45had listened to me because most of the time they do and yeah.
- 1:49:50So The dude pulls me out and he's like I can smoke pot in the
- 1:49:58vehicle. You know I have I'm going to
- 1:50:00search. It like, is there anything that
- 1:50:01you want to tell me? I'm like, yeah, there's a little
- 1:50:06like in the passenger seat and what I'm lit.
- 1:50:10Both like we were smoke. We were smoking a bowl like
- 1:50:14while we're getting pulled over coincident but he just he
- 1:50:17happened to see my registration. So that's how it needs you.
- 1:50:23Smokey. But anyways, so he goes and he
- 1:50:29checks the passenger and Willis is there.
- 1:50:33He should have just eaten the, the script, the Xanax like he
- 1:50:37should just, you know, down him then just had to deal with it
- 1:50:43because it was only like two, but even if you have wanted to
- 1:50:46film and yeah, so He is definitely going to jail
- 1:50:58immediately as soon as he finds those right now, but the thing
- 1:51:04is, is like the officer. Oh, in the entire time, while
- 1:51:08Willis has the officer distracted, Richard is stuffing
- 1:51:13a bunch of weed into my panel and feel like my door panels and
- 1:51:21shit. And the cops pull Richard out,
- 1:51:26and Richard ends up moment, only having like an eighth on him.
- 1:51:32So, the guys, like I'm gonna take this and I'm gonna give you
- 1:51:38a warning or whatever. Yeah.
- 1:51:40Like, you know, I'm going to take this and then he takes the
- 1:51:44pipe, and then he takes my grinder, and then he Only six
- 1:51:51plus to jail but um and then so we're about to go to Houston.
- 1:52:00Yeah. We're on our way to Houston and
- 1:52:03we're halfway there. And this is really annoying and
- 1:52:08I told Willis not to do bring any, you know, felonies and he
- 1:52:14did. But I mean, the cop said that he
- 1:52:20would have my wheels go and Trust has an on-the-ground if
- 1:52:23his supervisor didn't pull up immediately.
- 1:52:27Right. That sucks man.
- 1:52:29Like we almost could have got away with it.
- 1:52:33Yeah, and but, but alright. So then like, I had to get an
- 1:52:38Airbnb in this Podunk town and like it was just like a lot.
- 1:52:43Like a plot of land that you could camp on for like 35 bucks
- 1:52:47a night, we pulled up and like set up a fire and like we're
- 1:52:53eating all the tour food that we brought in.
- 1:52:55Like we just can't that it waited for Willis to get, you
- 1:52:59know, bailed out or like on Bond and Yeah, then we took my panel,
- 1:53:07like my door panels apart and got like 18 grams out of it.
- 1:53:13And then after that, Richard was like, let's just fucking smoke,
- 1:53:17dude. Fuck this look looks.
- 1:53:21So then we got really fucking stoned and really fucking full
- 1:53:24off of sandwiches and salads. That's that's an important Point
- 1:53:29as well. You need, you need to, if you
- 1:53:30get a smoke weed, you need to be prepared food, wise, nothing
- 1:53:34worse than trying. Shop when you're high as just
- 1:53:36the worst just being on that for like you have to think like
- 1:53:40smartass just like being efficient with your money in
- 1:53:44general. Like, you have to write a lot of
- 1:53:46food. So I'm like, how are you going
- 1:53:49to do that? Small, you know, sandwich?
- 1:53:52No, it's so how do you work out the budget, like, who does that
- 1:53:56or like what? How does that work?
- 1:53:59We just kind of know what we can afford and then and everyone
- 1:54:04kind of chips in like equally awesome.
- 1:54:06Heard everyone kind of provides for themselves on tour like pays
- 1:54:10for themselves okay but like you know if we're you know normally
- 1:54:17I'm the one driving so like everyone has to chip in for
- 1:54:20that. Yeah they'll pay for my gas but
- 1:54:24to get or like something like that.
- 1:54:26Like and then like, in terms of like, Hang for the tours like to
- 1:54:37get on the tours like we chip in.
- 1:54:41We all kind of go, you know, thirds on that one.
- 1:54:47Because what we do admit that, you know, sometimes paying to
- 1:54:51play, is a good move. Yeah.
- 1:54:55And like we you get it's like you can spend $120 on for
- 1:55:01backstage tickets to a rapper or musician.
- 1:55:06You can spend $120 to be on stage with him.
- 1:55:12Yeah. I mean I think it depends on
- 1:55:14what you're going to get like if I was in the same situation.
- 1:55:16I'd look oh yeah, yeah yeah. What are we paying for here?
- 1:55:19Like yeah, you have to pick the people specifically, you know,
- 1:55:23I'm not going to just get on any tour.
- 1:55:25Like reason I'm going on this Juggalo tours because they're
- 1:55:28inviting me and they've had a lot of successful shows and like
- 1:55:33I trust this Chugalug label. Yeah, there, I didn't have to
- 1:55:40pay for that one and like a lot of the tour's you really didn't
- 1:55:44have to pay for honestly, like when we're Me and Willis went to
- 1:55:48California. Like all I had to do was sell
- 1:55:51like pretty tickets here in Austin and then he took me all
- 1:55:55around Texas Colorado and then I took a break and went to
- 1:55:59Minnesota and went and hung out with my uncle in like the
- 1:56:03Minneapolis metal scene and then I met back up with the tour in
- 1:56:08California. Marine that was just because I
- 1:56:13sold 30 tickets. I made the dude $600.
- 1:56:16And he just was like, okay, that's fine.
- 1:56:20You can come with this stuff. Do you ever think about just
- 1:56:22getting like a manager that can Soul this shout for you, you
- 1:56:26know, just get you gigs, get told to the people so you don't
- 1:56:28have to, you know, obviously yeah, it sucks because you'd
- 1:56:31have to like pay them and shit but like it would kind of save
- 1:56:34you guys time and hassle, you know.
- 1:56:36Well the thing is is if we were if if It find a manager to work
- 1:56:42pro bono until we were profitable would be amazing.
- 1:56:47But like, you know until then like yeah we don't have the
- 1:56:51funds, just pay somebody to just look for the same shit that we
- 1:56:54could already do ourselves, you know, like fair enough.
- 1:56:57Yeah, I got that. What have been the biggest
- 1:57:02challenges in your music career so far?
- 1:57:07Making money. It's always difficult in the
- 1:57:11beginning and I think I made my first band we only ever got paid
- 1:57:14like once and like all the shows I've ever played.
- 1:57:18Yeah, one thing that one shows and I did my streaming Revenue
- 1:57:26like once, but it really wasn't that impressive then Hey is, I
- 1:57:34do have like DMT songs on Spotify.
- 1:57:37Yeah. So like I was able to get some
- 1:57:42sort of, you know, money off of out of that and yeah, but mostly
- 1:57:50have pretty much only been paid for shows but or selling tickets
- 1:57:56in the making profit off tickets, that certainly does
- 1:58:00seem like though the main way to make money at the moment in
- 1:58:04terms of the music industry, you know like I often hear like
- 1:58:08major musicians, talk about the fact that they own like next to
- 1:58:12peanuts on Spotify, even though, you know, they might have like
- 1:58:15millions of listens and stuff it really Equate too much money so
- 1:58:19the money is more in like as you say a playing shows merchandise.
- 1:58:27Yeah, if I've paid rent with my new show money before her like
- 1:58:33that felt really good. No, nice one.
- 1:58:36So it was like, That was a goal and I had reached and I was
- 1:58:41like, okay, if I can do this once I can do it eventually,
- 1:58:44again, you know? But I mean, like, because of
- 1:58:49covid, we want to focus on, you know, how to, how to get us on
- 1:58:54Spotify, and get streaming revenue.
- 1:58:57And, you know, how to get us on YouTube, and we got to figure
- 1:59:02this shit out. ASAP blame them.
- 1:59:06And what would you say? Your biggest kind of
- 1:59:09achievements in music so far. Excuse me.
- 1:59:17Um, for one learning how to Freestyle is something that I
- 1:59:25wasn't, it something I wasn't born with.
- 1:59:27Like there's been naturally come up with things, but I was
- 1:59:33always, like, a creative writer, like, in general, like, I always
- 1:59:37appreciated lyrics like her, I was like a little kid, like I
- 1:59:42would just like, we do like lyric books and covers and if I
- 1:59:47was just like, study that stuff and then, Like just having my
- 1:59:56appreciation for music I guess. Cause like I hope most genres
- 2:00:02and I can listen to most things and we understand you're doing
- 2:00:08you know if it's genuine what it means it was good for maybe.
- 2:00:16I try to look at stuff like that and then, it's just Yeah so
- 2:00:28that's my appreciation for it and like just having my
- 2:00:32appreciation that's one of my greatest things but because it's
- 2:00:37hard to like create an open mind you know so I'd say that that
- 2:00:42was a big accomplishment for me to overlook a lot of things. but
- 2:00:49in terms of like, I physical things, do you have you ever
- 2:00:57heard of like Xavier Wulf, or Trying to think of some big
- 2:01:05rappers ever. Heard her Riff Raff, which I
- 2:01:08know not. Okay.
- 2:01:09So some some major rappers have, I've opened for a lot of really
- 2:01:16Famous rappers that are like pretty big and I've gotten to
- 2:01:23meet a lot of people who are used to look up to as a little
- 2:01:27kid, just like you. I just don't listen to just to
- 2:01:31get pumped for baseball or something like that.
- 2:01:34Like now I'm over here rapping on stage like in front of them
- 2:01:38and it's really weird. End.
- 2:01:44Yeah, I would just say that. Also kind of bringing the punk
- 2:01:50rap, email rep, vibe to Austin. Like we're kind of like the
- 2:01:54original ones to bring it out. That was awesome.
- 2:02:00Yeah, it's definitely a few accomplishments in life in music
- 2:02:05at least I can God's. That's that sounds awesome.
- 2:02:09And actually that kind of fits in well with my next question.
- 2:02:13What are your best? And worst experiences playing
- 2:02:17live shows best experiences. Well, let's start, let's do it
- 2:02:25again. The negative positive thing
- 2:02:27that's start with the worst one and then, you know, when you're
- 2:02:30feeling low, will bring it back up to the positivity of the
- 2:02:34worst experiences. Um, I'll be General and then
- 2:02:39I'll get the specific point. Um so it does suck whenever
- 2:02:47you're playing for nobody like we've had shows where I was
- 2:02:55really big and then all of a sudden everybody shuffles out
- 2:02:58and there's nobody and then it's you and a few other tests as
- 2:03:02well. Yeah, well, you're headlining.
- 2:03:03And it's like it's inevitable when you're playing quite late
- 2:03:07and maybe a circle weekday, or some shit exactly.
- 2:03:10And like, Whenever you perform so often because like there was
- 2:03:14a point in time where we were performing twice a week and like
- 2:03:18we were busy as fuck and you know and on top of being fours
- 2:03:24and stuff, sometimes, the tour shows are really lame and like
- 2:03:28it's like okay this night wasn't what we expected.
- 2:03:32So that sucks and then you have to just kind of go to the next
- 2:03:37city and hope it better than what that night was. but, I
- 2:03:43would say the most aggravating time I've ever been on stage was
- 2:03:51whenever we were opening up for I don't know.
- 2:03:56Jeffrey and Xavier Wulf. In Austin and we're the people
- 2:04:02before them to come on and people wanted to see Xavier Wulf
- 2:04:11so bad that they were my talents stage and like, like, of course,
- 2:04:17like they were, they enjoyed my set, but then Willis's set went
- 2:04:22on and then we'll is the second longer than because like we were
- 2:04:27just kind of being jackasses. That point and we're just seeing
- 2:04:33how far we can get with this shit and eventually 0 because
- 2:04:39Xavier Wulf wasn't even there yet and he was just outside
- 2:04:41smoking. So we were just trying to fill
- 2:04:43time. That's right.
- 2:04:45Did any what did anyone say like?
- 2:04:46Hey, you know, just keep going. Or was that my yeah.
- 2:04:50Well now we're honestly mean, we're so good at improv.
- 2:04:53Like it only took like one signal from like, oh he's here.
- 2:04:58Okay. He's outside.
- 2:05:00Oh, he's taking his time, you know, like it was pretty easy to
- 2:05:05judge whenever he was ready to go on, you know, fair enough.
- 2:05:09So, we just kept going, and everybody was just like, nobody
- 2:05:13even realize, like, like, we were going so hard and like,
- 2:05:17trying to convince people to watch it so much that, like,
- 2:05:19people weren't even, like, turning around to see that
- 2:05:22Xavier will outside and like he's really funny.
- 2:05:26Um, so yeah, they were, they were like, they enjoyed my Like
- 2:05:33I said and on like it was, they were getting more and more I
- 2:05:39guess unruly. But yeah, that was, that was
- 2:05:45pretty. It was a pretty interesting
- 2:05:48night. I would say, hey and let's
- 2:05:52switch it up and go to your best experience or experiences
- 2:05:56playing live. Tosa.
- 2:06:04I mean like all of the every single flow down that I've ever
- 2:06:09done whether it be just a regular flow down or a A protest
- 2:06:18like it's the most fun live experience I've ever given like
- 2:06:25for myself. And personally I think for
- 2:06:27others like of course, seeing eye we will click on stage is
- 2:06:31fun. You get to mosh pit and you
- 2:06:34know, chance fun things. But like, whatever.
- 2:06:39Like you're freestyling in like you're impressing people and
- 2:06:43like you're having a fun time. Just jamming out.
- 2:06:45And But it's just like brains are just meshing together.
- 2:06:51I just immediately to like you know, it's like some
- 2:06:55split-second thinking so it's just really, that's really cool
- 2:07:00till I experience. So I love, I love playing with
- 2:07:0386 full-time band and but the best show I ever had was the
- 2:07:10best memory from rap show I ever had was my very last official
- 2:07:19show, which was the one where I was on tour with Willis and we
- 2:07:24went to California and we met Xavier Wulf Jeffrey Chris.
- 2:07:29Travis Eddie Baker maybe some people will know who I'm talking
- 2:07:34about but yeah, they're pretty big in the rap scene and We were
- 2:07:42in Downtown LA at this place called rare house and it was me
- 2:07:47my girlfriend and Willis in. Basically.
- 2:07:57We got to luckily we got to be in like the artist cage and like
- 2:08:02be separated from the crowd because the crowd was so thick.
- 2:08:05Like it was it was very packed in there like it was bad. and
- 2:08:11then, Make the floor was warping.
- 2:08:15It was like it was. Yeah, it could have collapsed
- 2:08:19Heisel and It was like 120 degrees in on our yeah.
- 2:08:28I like it was so hot and like we were so fucking high like his I
- 2:08:34had taken like a quarter of his in and then like just till I
- 2:08:39take my anxiety away. I cannot imagine performing.
- 2:08:44I mean I tried it drunk and that was one thing but doing it.
- 2:08:47Hi Ike. I don't know how you pulled that
- 2:08:49off. I mean, fair play every time.
- 2:08:54I mean where the most part I'm sober every single time that I
- 2:08:58perform because all right so whenever I set it to quarters
- 2:09:02and like I didn't get high off of that.
- 2:09:04Oh I got what you meant now just and then like, so I get to pick
- 2:09:08my anxiety away. Mixed with the heat and like the
- 2:09:14heat putting me in like this weird dream state and then like,
- 2:09:19eventually smoking like I was fucked up.
- 2:09:23Like I was I the whole night was so surreal and trippy and like
- 2:09:29performing like Willis threw up on the stage, like it was
- 2:09:32hilarious. How did the crowd react to that?
- 2:09:36When I just thought it was just like it was funny.
- 2:09:41The back and through of behind the stage and that and then he
- 2:09:48ran back. And was like, I just fucking
- 2:09:50puke. There was like yeah.
- 2:09:54And then like whenever I was trying to get him to Marsh like
- 2:09:58they must pretty well like everybody was you know, received
- 2:10:01a pretty well and then like I think it was mostly just fact
- 2:10:06that we made it to California. Was the coolest thing about that
- 2:10:11night, you know, like we had a show in California opening up
- 2:10:15for some onions, know in the rap game.
- 2:10:21Awesome. Thanks for sharing that.
- 2:10:24I appreciate it. Kind of okay these this I think
- 2:10:29this is always a cool question. I always ask this to musicians
- 2:10:31that I have on the show. What advice would you give to
- 2:10:35aspiring musicians who are just starting out right now?
- 2:10:41and as much music as possible, and Myrn why music, the music
- 2:10:52you're listening to created and who made it and what they're
- 2:10:57about? Hmm, yeah that's a lesser to get
- 2:11:02advice but I think it's interesting you say that as well
- 2:11:07because a lot of the time when I look at my favorite musicians,
- 2:11:11particularly when I look at their influences and it like it
- 2:11:14makes sense in terms of what they play.
- 2:11:18Had a musician on recently from from Estonia.
- 2:11:21So it's quite a popular musician over there and he was just
- 2:11:25telling me some of his influences and I was like, yeah,
- 2:11:27no, I hear that in what you play actually and I'm like, yeah,
- 2:11:31that makes sense. Just all the pieces connect the
- 2:11:35AC. Yeah.
- 2:11:37My my influence is definitely stand out in my music like terms
- 2:11:41of like the lyricism like The context would, you know, it
- 2:11:48could come from? Country music to metal to to,
- 2:11:55like, old 2005 emo, punk, rap, rock stuff.
- 2:12:03You know, like, like it, definitely surfaces and then
- 2:12:07like the sound is just like, is there any like, particular
- 2:12:12artists, the like inspire you, or that you kind of mostly like,
- 2:12:22Yeah, but it's mostly like for their talents and not their
- 2:12:25sound out there. We're talking about technical
- 2:12:31ability then yeah, so I like pretty, pretty is one of my
- 2:12:36biggest influences. Steven Tyler Billie Joe
- 2:12:43Armstrong? Yeah, let's see.
- 2:12:50And then like you could look at my influences and a lot of them
- 2:12:56like old-school. I won't Thugs and Harmony like
- 2:12:59Three 6 Mafia house, until a lot of like death row like from the
- 2:13:0790s and stuff and But I also, you know, I've listened to
- 2:13:14Grime. I wasn't.
- 2:13:15I like, I used to watch a Blackpool rap, you know, those
- 2:13:20are, yeah. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 2:13:24It's very different. I must say that because
- 2:13:26obviously, I grew up with UK crime and stuff.
- 2:13:28And yeah, when I would compare it to, what was going on in the
- 2:13:31states. It was, it was like, obviously
- 2:13:34UK grapping, you could Grime is heavily inspired by American
- 2:13:38rapper, its own entity like, Yeah, it's like I don't know
- 2:13:46Grime. When I listen to Grime it's like
- 2:13:48it's very British for me. It's like something.
- 2:13:51I think that will pretty proud of because it's just so, like,
- 2:13:54sometimes you just get those things that are just so
- 2:13:56quintessentially, like, from a particular place, like, you
- 2:13:59know, gangster rap is very like, that's an American thing, you
- 2:14:03know? And yeah, it's just how it is.
- 2:14:05But yeah, I gave it to me, it's cool.
- 2:14:08It's cool to check out different scenes, different countries, see
- 2:14:10what they're doing. Like, I see some really
- 2:14:14interesting rappers from from Europe and countries like yeah
- 2:14:18like Russia for example just really out there.
- 2:14:21Different different styles you know the Little O's an influence
- 2:14:27for a big influence for the most recent project was BTS.
- 2:14:37Interesting. Yeah.
- 2:14:38Okay. Yeah.
- 2:14:39So I quit the singing in the fast rapping and then like yeah
- 2:14:45that's trying to I was trying to be hoppy K Papi.
- 2:14:49Hey I mean if there was ever a time to do it it's now because
- 2:14:51it seems to be like really peaking in terms of popularity
- 2:14:54right now. It's like the thing, isn't it?
- 2:14:56Like I, you know, like even though it's like I was never I
- 2:15:00always thought that Korean pop is kind of an interesting thing
- 2:15:03but I didn't really know anything about it and then I
- 2:15:05listened to this BTS act and I was like goddamn this was not
- 2:15:09what I was expecting at all like I would for it was just some
- 2:15:12boy. Band and then I listened to us
- 2:15:13like dial when you hear like the solo acts within that group as
- 2:15:20well and it's some good shit. Go check that out.
- 2:15:23If anyone is listening. Good stuff.
- 2:15:26Yeah, shout out BTS. Like they need.
- 2:15:30I think they actually broke YouTube record apparently, with
- 2:15:33their latest. I would not doubt it.
- 2:15:37Yeah, something like the most viewed in a The shortest amount
- 2:15:44of time or something like that for a huge.
- 2:15:46It's apparently, I don't know. This is what I heard.
- 2:15:48I definitely contributed to that because I'd I watched it within
- 2:15:53like, 3 hours that they dropped it because I was just on YouTube
- 2:15:56and I saw I just looked at my subscriptions and I was like, oh
- 2:15:59shit. Um I just drove.
- 2:16:02Yeah. I like, I'm not even subscribe
- 2:16:03to them back or recommended to the algorithms like check it
- 2:16:07out, check it out, check it out, listen to this.
- 2:16:11Okay then. So drawing everything to her
- 2:16:13clothes. Do you have any upcoming
- 2:16:16projects or maybe some final thoughts that you'd like to
- 2:16:19share with us? I mean projects.
- 2:16:23Yes. I'm cute.
- 2:16:29So the main one that I want everyone to know about, is the
- 2:16:35ugly, boy, click project that we're working on, be dropping a
- 2:16:40single pretty soon. We're not, we're all dropping so
- 2:16:44stuff right now. Just to people because like we
- 2:16:47haven't really been dropping them which music.
- 2:16:48So the guys and I are going to be, you know, I just dropped my
- 2:16:52album and then to Cody and Willis going to drop some stuff.
- 2:16:57Kind of get tired of that and build hype for like the, you
- 2:17:01know, the three, the dynamic song, you know.
- 2:17:06People are gonna hopefully be really Blown Away by that one
- 2:17:09because it's legitimately really good song like actually two in
- 2:17:15one. So you're like the people are
- 2:17:17going to get two different sounding songs on one on one
- 2:17:21track. You have a particular date
- 2:17:25penciled in for this? No.
- 2:17:27Yeah, it just like it's just like as of now it's still like a
- 2:17:31month and a half away at least because I want to my album up to
- 2:17:37a few hundred views and you know, Willis and Cody are going
- 2:17:42to drop, there's and do the same and then eventually those
- 2:17:45numbers are going to plateau. And then yeah, then we'll drop
- 2:17:51the because we're saying that like we're just trying to get
- 2:17:55dropped, he's solo songs. Because we want to solidify this
- 2:17:59the fan base that we have now. But whenever we drop this
- 2:18:02single, we're going to actually put some marketing into it,
- 2:18:05right? Yeah.
- 2:18:07Because that's going to be the actual, the real re debut of
- 2:18:10ugly boyk and I'm like, not to say that like, we don't have
- 2:18:16money to spend on marketing. We just never really found the
- 2:18:22an efficient way to do it. They made us feel comfortable
- 2:18:25and Basically I think we have a good plan now.
- 2:18:32I'm so and Willis is going to take care of a lot of that, and
- 2:18:37I trust him on that. So wait works.
- 2:18:40And yeah, I think the but I really think the new single kind
- 2:18:46of capture people's attention pretty hard because this you
- 2:18:50might consider this other stuff. Mediocre like are so stuff like
- 2:18:53that, we drop right before but like I said, that's kind of just
- 2:18:56four. Personal fan base but I think
- 2:19:01that the new songs and then all of the tracks that we already
- 2:19:04have preceding it I think they're really gonna go pretty
- 2:19:10far if we put some real marketing behind it.
- 2:19:13Excellent. Well thank you, thank you for
- 2:19:14sharing. I definitely look forward to
- 2:19:16hearing that because particularly because of what we
- 2:19:19discussed earlier about being drastically different in terms
- 2:19:22of sound and stuff, it'll be interesting to see what you guys
- 2:19:24come up with. Yeah.
- 2:19:27My my other project that I have so it's already recorded.
- 2:19:32I'm just waiting on. And this will probably be
- 2:19:36released after my this year. So, do you know whom little peep
- 2:19:44is what should be? No, no, it's fine.
- 2:19:50Um, special people would listening do though, so, yeah,
- 2:19:55that's definitely. so, Basically he's a SoundCloud rapper emo
- 2:20:02rapper. Okay.
- 2:20:03And he was highly influential to a lot of people and he was like
- 2:20:11a really big deal over here and over in Europe for the most part
- 2:20:15and he OD'd. And he was like, he was like a
- 2:20:25legend in the making essentially and Whenever he died a lot of
- 2:20:32his you know, people who only think I just house like they
- 2:20:37obviously had to move out so I kind of took the opportunity to
- 2:20:42hit some of them up and my not listening to their music
- 2:20:47individually and like I said, some of my up and this one guy
- 2:20:52responded and local why? And like he has a pretty nice
- 2:20:57following and I like to set A lot anyways, lyrical bad, and we
- 2:21:03ended up just like talking a little bit, then one night.
- 2:21:06He like it's me up and he's like, yo, can you buy me a
- 2:21:09pizza? Like, I know that like,
- 2:21:12everything is going on over there.
- 2:21:13You know, like, I understand what's going on over there so
- 2:21:16I'm like, yeah. And then so I, yeah, I
- 2:21:20sympathize form. I'm the pizza ins like nothing,
- 2:21:25like 12 bucks. Whatever cares.
- 2:21:27And then Then like I hit him up in my lab and he was like, yeah,
- 2:21:35for sure. And then like, he sends me a
- 2:21:37beat and then like eventually he's like listening to my old
- 2:21:41music and he's like do you want to do like a five song Clap for
- 2:21:46like $120. I was like sure.
- 2:21:52And he was like yeah, here's a beat folder.
- 2:21:56Just pick five Beats from this and like I'm look at It and it's
- 2:21:59like really big name. Producers like really big name.
- 2:22:03Charlie show for Captain Crunch biscuit beats.
- 2:22:09Like there was there was these guys are like really like
- 2:22:13renowned here in America and I'm like, getting all of it for 100.
- 2:22:19I'm getting five of these things from always like is that's an
- 2:22:23insane price. And he's going to go out with me
- 2:22:26as well. Like so not only that I get his
- 2:22:30following and so basically. Yeah, I'm working on a five-song
- 2:22:39project with him and I already have my parts recorded and yes,
- 2:22:44sent to him and he's just working on right now.
- 2:22:46So I'll probably drop him after all the so I can kind of meet
- 2:22:51his fan base in the middle, you know?
- 2:22:55So that's no. That's the one sided, you know,
- 2:22:59I mean it's good. I mean means you're sort of
- 2:23:03releasing a lot of music. There's a lot of stuff for your
- 2:23:05fan base that 40 and yeah probably like 20 songs coming
- 2:23:10out for me pretty soon. He go efficiency working hard in
- 2:23:15this these crazy times. Yeah so yeah I got to do.
- 2:23:21Awesome. I guess that would be my closing
- 2:23:24statement. Keep working hard in these crazy
- 2:23:26times. Let me see.
- 2:23:29Thank you very much for for agreeing to appear on the show.
- 2:23:33It's been an absolute pleasure and yeah and to everyone that's
- 2:23:37been listening to the Christian we've podcast like go check out
- 2:23:40DMT, go subscribe to him, you know go and listen to his music.
- 2:23:46It's accidents. Very I did it how to put it,
- 2:23:49it's different, it's out there, it's it's good music, you know,
- 2:23:53first and foremost. And I think a lot of people
- 2:23:55would dig it and find something that they enjoy.
- 2:23:57And I really like enjoyed listening, particularly your
- 2:23:59latest album, big fan of that. So, yeah, that big thank you.
- 2:24:04And to everyone listening on the Christian we've podcast.
- 2:24:07I hope you're enjoying these video podcasts on YouTube and
- 2:24:13all the clips that we're doing. I haven't really spoken about
- 2:24:15the clips just yet, but we've been releasing Clips, very
- 2:24:18slowly. I'm trying to work through the
- 2:24:20backlog of all the podcasts right now.
- 2:24:24Always fixating focusing. I should say on the newest
- 2:24:27podcast so you always get the clips as soon as the episode is
- 2:24:31released. You'll get the immediate Clips
- 2:24:34afterwards for the most recent one, but I'm working on the
- 2:24:36audio and other ones I'm doing this all myself.
- 2:24:39It takes time. So bear with me there.
