- 0:00Speaker 1: Presented by PrizePix, Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Tom, does Notre
- 0:04Speaker 1: Dame have anything to worry about about the Big Ten
- 0:06Speaker 1: powerhouse up there in Wisconsin?
- 0:08Speaker 2: I don't know if it's worry about Wisconsin. I think
- 0:12Speaker 2: it's just a matter of it's week one, and you
- 0:15Speaker 2: want to iron out some kinks, so to speak. I
- 0:18Speaker 2: think there's a lot of expectations for C.J. Carr. I
- 0:21Speaker 2: think there's questions about the running game, considering the departures
- 0:24Speaker 2: of two outstanding tailbacks to the National Football League.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I expect.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Anais Williams to be either the primary back or one
- 0:32Speaker 2: of many backs. And I really don't have that many
- 0:34Speaker 2: questions about the running back room for Notre Dame. Unproven commodity, sure,
- 0:38Speaker 2: but the talent is there. And I expect this offensive
- 0:41Speaker 2: line to be solid. What are the real threats in
- 0:45Speaker 2: the passing game for CJ Carr? We know about Great House.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We know about Jordan Faison. But the transfers coming in
- 0:52Speaker 2: from Ohio State are encouraging. Porter, it sounds like he's
- 0:54Speaker 2: not going to be available.
- 0:55Speaker 3: He's not playing in this game.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So I want to see how CJ Carr operates with
- 1:00Speaker 2: this group of pass catchers in general. I expect Notre
- 1:03Speaker 2: Dame's defense to be very solid. Leonard Moore and company
- 1:07Speaker 2: leading the vindication tour. I think the concept of leaving
- 1:10Speaker 2: no doubt is out there from Marcus Freeman. I think
- 1:13Speaker 2: this team is going to try and start off as
- 1:16Speaker 2: strong as it possibly can. Wisconsin's just curious because Luke
- 1:20Speaker 2: Fickle brings in a lot of transfers during the offseason.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I expect this defense to play hard. That's consistent of
- 1:27Speaker 2: Wisconsin football. And even when they struggled last year, the
- 1:30Speaker 2: defense made it really difficult on everybody. They played frankly,
- 1:33Speaker 2: go back to the Oregon game, uh, where that was
- 1:35Speaker 2: a home game at Madison, where it was what 16
- 1:38Speaker 2: to 13 in the final or something in that neighborhood.
- 1:40Speaker 2: This game is being played in Lambeau. So you might
- 1:42Speaker 2: have a little bit more love for Wisconsin in this situation,
- 1:45Speaker 2: obviously being played in the great state of Wisconsin. You'll
- 1:48Speaker 2: still see plenty of Notre Dame fans there. Uh, Colton
- 1:51Speaker 2: Joseph is a question for me and Wisconsin. More of
- 1:55Speaker 2: a runner, is capable as a passer. I don't know
- 1:58Speaker 2: if Wisconsin has the threats at pass catcher to really
- 2:02Speaker 2: even make Notre Dame nervous. That's the thing I'm interested
- 2:05Speaker 2: in seeing is if they can move the football consistently.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Are they going to have to rely on the running game?
- 2:11Speaker 2: I love the tailback that they got in the transfer portal. Abusama,
- 2:13Speaker 2: I think, is going to be able to kind of
- 2:16Speaker 2: lead that lineage or follow that lineage of great running
- 2:18Speaker 2: backs from Wisconsin and just put up numbers. I don't
- 2:21Speaker 2: know if he's going to necessarily do it against Notre Dame,
- 2:23Speaker 2: but I think he should be able to have a
- 2:24Speaker 2: decent season. Wisconsin's going to want to run the football,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and Notre Dame is immediately going to want to take
- 2:29Speaker 2: that away and make Colton Joseph beat them. So I
- 2:33Speaker 2: think the beginning of the vindication tour is here. I
- 2:36Speaker 2: don't know if I expect Notre Dame to outright thump Wisconsin.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I think Wisconsin is able to put up a fight
- 2:42Speaker 2: at least for a half in this game, and then
- 2:44Speaker 2: maybe the score can get out of hand. But I'm
- 2:47Speaker 2: just kind of curious to see Notre Dame start to
- 2:49Speaker 2: kick the tires a little bit on this offense. What works,
- 2:52Speaker 2: what doesn't work? Has CJ Carr taken the step that
- 2:54Speaker 2: people allege that he has? So I'm very interested to
- 2:58Speaker 2: see the fighting Irish offense.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'll get right back to the clip of The Power 2,
- 3:02Speaker 1: which is live every week, twice a week now in
- 3:04Speaker 1: season on College Football Addiction. Make sure you are subscribed here. Second,
- 3:08Speaker 1: look at those picks on the right. I've got a
- 3:10Speaker 1: five-teamer for you. We're taking a bunch of stuff. Lagway's
- 3:14Speaker 1: passing total. We're taking Jeremiah Smith to score a touchdown.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Cam Cook. We're taking Mark Fletcher. And you can do
- 3:21Speaker 1: this too. Use our code HMA. You can get $ 150
- 3:24Speaker 1: in lineups. If your first $ 5 lineup wins on the
- 3:29Speaker 1: price picks app, Tom and Cole graded my five teamer.
- 3:33Speaker 1: They bought and sold or played more and less with
- 3:36Speaker 1: each one of these picks. Also got King in there
- 3:39Speaker 1: from use SC. I placed this. So we're riding with
- 3:42Speaker 1: it to see how it does, but you can go
- 3:44Speaker 1: get on the price picks app. You don't have to
- 3:45Speaker 1: go crazy with a five pick. Like I did go
- 3:48Speaker 1: check them out. Code is HMA link is in the description.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Appreciate PrizeFix for their support. Now back to the clip. Cole,
- 3:55Speaker 1: any worries here?
- 3:57Speaker 3: You know, I think it's good to see on both
- 3:59Speaker 3: sides for different levels. What Thomas started off with is
- 4:02Speaker 3: the vindication tour. Okay, well, you left out the college
- 4:04Speaker 3: football playoff, and a lot of us said that you
- 4:06Speaker 3: probably were one of the 12 best teams that could
- 4:08Speaker 3: have made it to the playoff last year. Here's the problem.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It's 2026.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Nobody wants to hear about what you did last season.
- 4:14Speaker 3: It's all about what you're going to do this season.
- 4:16Speaker 3: So now is an opportunity where we all, I would
- 4:19Speaker 3: say about 99% of the college football public, is overselling
- 4:22Speaker 3: you a little bit, trying to be able to put
- 4:23Speaker 3: BTA to every opponent in your pathway to leave no
- 4:27Speaker 3: doubt that you belong in the playoff. What's funny about
- 4:29Speaker 3: this game being at Lambeau is Tom brought it up,
- 4:32Speaker 3: but I'll go a little bit further. I call the
- 4:34Speaker 3: Notre Dame offense the Green Bay Packers. And I call
- 4:37Speaker 3: them that because when you look at Green Bay's passing attack,
- 4:40Speaker 3: What does Green Bay have? A bunch of wide receiver twos.
- 4:43Speaker 3: A bunch of guys that can go ahead and be
- 4:45Speaker 3: quality rotational options. They don't have a game changer. And
- 4:49Speaker 3: they may not have a game changer this year. Does
- 4:51Speaker 3: Notre Dame have a game changer at wide receiver? Is
- 4:53Speaker 3: it a Great House? Is it a Faison? Is it
- 4:56Speaker 3: a Graham? Is it potentially one of your tight ends
- 5:00Speaker 3: for that matter? This has been a university that has
- 5:02Speaker 3: utilized tight ends. There needs to be a weapon that
- 5:05Speaker 3: is an enforcer that makes you feel like that 10
- 5:08Speaker 3: times out of 10, if you're CJ Carr, you can
- 5:10Speaker 3: hit these big red, easy staple button, boom, down the field, easy,
- 5:13Speaker 3: easy points. The offense is also going to.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Be a little bit different. Can I pause there for
- 5:17Speaker 1: just a minute? That is what I want to see
- 5:19Speaker 1: for Notre Dame. We'll see about it in this game,
- 5:21Speaker 1: but big picture, so much of Notre Dame and Miami
- 5:24Speaker 1: are linked. It feels like this year because the way
- 5:26Speaker 1: last year ended because of the big matchup that happens
- 5:28Speaker 1: in South Bend. And Miami has that guy. They might
- 5:31Speaker 1: have three of those guys. But you know there's an
- 5:33Speaker 1: easy button when Malachi Toney's on your team. And there's
- 5:36Speaker 1: actually another one with Cooper Barquet. And there's actually another
- 5:38Speaker 1: one with Mark Fletcher. It's not really fair, especially wearing
- 5:41Speaker 1: those shirts that I'm wearing today. But who is that
- 5:43Speaker 1: easy button? I think Notre Dame has solid weapons. That's
- 5:46Speaker 1: not a disparagement. But who is that guy? Who is
- 5:48Speaker 1: that difference-maker easy button? I think that's a great point
- 5:51Speaker 1: by Cole. Sorry for interrupting. I just needed to praise
- 5:53Speaker 1: you some.
- 5:54Speaker 3: But there's a thing that you also want to see
- 5:56Speaker 3: this year.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I appreciate that. Mike Denbrock's offense, I think, is finally
- 6:02Speaker 3: going to be more into the balanced approach of what
- 6:04Speaker 3: he was hired from at LSU. Because when he was
- 6:06Speaker 3: at LSU, they did everything. They were top 10 in rushing.
- 6:09Speaker 3: They were top 10 in passing. They were top 10
- 6:11Speaker 3: in scoring. They were top 10 in total yards per game.
- 6:13Speaker 3: And it felt like last season, and the numbers back
- 6:15Speaker 3: it up, they were a top 12 rushing attack in
- 6:18Speaker 3: college football. And while they should have been because of
- 6:20Speaker 3: you have two first round running backs, but they also
- 6:23Speaker 3: ranked 37th in passing. So what do you look like
- 6:27Speaker 3: this season now with CJ Carr fully embraced as QB1
- 6:32Speaker 3: and on top of that, fully now committed to being
- 6:35Speaker 3: a more up-to-passing game? Because if that is another added
- 6:41Speaker 3: asset to where you have a little bit more of
- 6:42Speaker 3: a trust factor, I agree with Tom that Aeneas Williams
- 6:45Speaker 3: is going to be the lead back. He's going to
- 6:46Speaker 3: be awesome. But you want to be able to force
- 6:49Speaker 3: a team like Wisconsin, or really anybody in your opponent,
- 6:51Speaker 3: to have to be prepared on both sides of the ball.
- 6:54Speaker 3: It may end up being Jordan Faison goes up for
- 6:56Speaker 3: a buck 22 and then you trust Aeneas Williams to
- 6:59Speaker 3: set you up to not be living in third and
- 7:00Speaker 3: long or third and passable situations. From the Wisconsin side
- 7:04Speaker 3: of things, can Wisconsin go back to playing Wisconsin football?
- 7:07Speaker 3: Because I credit Luke Fickle of wanting to make a change.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I credit Luke Fickle of wanting to bring a new
- 7:13Speaker 3: format to Madison. But guys, I hate to be the
- 7:15Speaker 3: bearer of bad names. When you think of Wisconsin football,
- 7:17Speaker 3: you think of big bullies in the trenches and you
- 7:19Speaker 3: think of a sufficient run game. And Wisconsin really hasn't
- 7:22Speaker 3: been that on either side in the Luke Fickle era.
- 7:25Speaker 3: And even in the passing attack, this isn't known for
- 7:28Speaker 3: having great wide receiver play, but it sure as hell
- 7:31Speaker 3: been known for having great tight end play. Wisconsin in
- 7:33Speaker 3: the last two years has ranked 106th and 132nd in passing.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Can you get something going? Much like you talk about
- 7:41Speaker 3: with a team like Notre Dame, But just one guy,
- 7:44Speaker 3: Eugene Hilton, the tight end that you brought in from,
- 7:47Speaker 3: I think it was Bowling Green this offseason, if I'm
- 7:49Speaker 3: not mistaken.
- 7:51Speaker 1: What does that look like?
- 7:52Speaker 3: Do you have anybody that you can trust to be
- 7:55Speaker 3: that difference maker and just a chain mover? I think
- 7:58Speaker 3: the big storyline that you're looking for in Wisconsin in
- 8:00Speaker 3: this game are two main elements. Number one, can you
- 8:02Speaker 3: take a page out of TCU's playbook? Because TCU, if
- 8:06Speaker 3: you guys remember, in the first half, Jeremy Payne was
- 8:09Speaker 3: able to run to the outside and just hit the
- 8:12Speaker 3: corner and stay balanced and be able to get 7, 9,
- 8:15Speaker 3: 11 yards. And then they took away that rushing attack.
- 8:18Speaker 3: And they had to go up the middle. And it
- 8:20Speaker 3: became a complete and total docile performance. Can you win
- 8:23Speaker 3: on the corners with Abu Salma? And can you trust
- 8:25Speaker 3: that your run game will be able to constantly pick
- 8:28Speaker 3: up positive yardage? And the second thing is, what is
- 8:31Speaker 3: the status of this offensive line? Luke Fickle earlier this
- 8:35Speaker 3: week had a comment saying that potentially they were not
- 8:38Speaker 3: going to have Mandel and Hayward, their right guard and
- 8:41Speaker 3: their right tackle. And that's because they need to save
- 8:43Speaker 3: them for the rest of the season. Well, if you're
- 8:45Speaker 3: Notre Dame and you hear that, If they play, you
- 8:48Speaker 3: know they're not at 100%. How quickly are you going
- 8:51Speaker 3: to maybe switch up some defensive formations to be able
- 8:53Speaker 3: to go win in the trenches, run some stunt formations,
- 8:56Speaker 3: get in the backfield and make Colton Joseph have to
- 8:58Speaker 3: throw with pressure? And when he throws a pressure into
- 9:01Speaker 3: that secondary, it's going to lead to a lot of turnovers.
- 9:04Speaker 1: P.J.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Williams, the new tackle who comes on in from Ole Miss,
- 9:08Speaker 3: maybe the most important player in this game. Because he
- 9:10Speaker 3: is going to have to slow down not only a
- 9:14Speaker 3: Bryce Young, but also a Jason Ongyeng. Because they love
- 9:16Speaker 3: to run stunts with those two. If there's a way
- 9:18Speaker 3: to be able to take out them in this matchup,
- 9:21Speaker 3: I think that you could see at least there be
- 9:24Speaker 3: life with Wisconsin. In the old school format that is
- 9:27Speaker 3: necessary to win in a place like Madison. But I'll
- 9:30Speaker 3: be real. I would say, if we're talking like upset level,
- 9:33Speaker 3: this is a two. I do not see a scenario
- 9:37Speaker 3: where right now, where Wisconsin is going into the season
- 9:40Speaker 3: and where Notre Dame is going into the season, this
- 9:43Speaker 3: is one of the easiest bets in my opinion. Take
- 9:44Speaker 3: the over if you want to, because I think it's
- 9:46Speaker 3: going to be a bloodbath.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yeah. 20 and a half point favorite for Notre Dame
- 9:50Speaker 1: as they enter the Shamrock series matchup in Lambeau Field.
- 9:54Speaker 1: That'll be fun. I am glad that the Louisville Ole
- 9:57Speaker 1: Miss game is happening at the same time, just in
- 9:59Speaker 1: case this is a blowout. You can flip over to
- 10:02Speaker 1: another game that I believe we're talking about today. Are
- 10:04Speaker 1: we doing that one? Is that on the, that is
- 10:06Speaker 1: on the rundown here in a couple of segments. So yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I'd like to see Wisconsin make this a game. I
- 10:12Speaker 1: think Notre Dame is in leave. No doubt mode. Marcus
- 10:14Speaker 1: Freeman changed up his whole off season fall camp. Like,
- 10:17Speaker 1: strategy and style because of the slow start last year
- 10:20Speaker 1: i push back on the idea of a slow start
- 10:23Speaker 1: they just played two college football playoff teams and came
- 10:25Speaker 1: up like a coin flip on the wrong side of
- 10:27Speaker 1: both of them wisconsin is going to bear the brunt
- 10:30Speaker 1: of that notre dame rolls here covers the spread and
- 10:31Speaker 1: wins i agree.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I think there's a chance pretty strong chance that notre
- 10:36Speaker 2: dame gets the over on this i think it's 47
- 10:39Speaker 2: and a half i don't know if i just don't
- 10:41Speaker 2: know how many points wisconsin is going to be able
- 10:43Speaker 2: to put on the board i don't know if this
- 10:44Speaker 2: is something where Notre Dame's putting up 42 points or
- 10:47Speaker 2: something like that. But I worry for Wisconsin's ability to
- 10:50Speaker 2: try and keep up with Notre Dame.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I don't see the overhitting, but I don't see the
- 10:54Speaker 3: overhitting because I don't think Wisconsin is going to be
- 10:56Speaker 3: able to put up enough points. Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 1: The big question in a lot of these is how
- 11:00Speaker 1: much does Notre Dame want to score? How much do
- 11:03Speaker 1: they want to leave? No doubt. Does a, does a
- 11:05Speaker 1: 30 point win matter too much in week one against a.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I think it doesn't matter that it's week one. It
- 11:12Speaker 2: matters that Wisconsin could be their third or fourth best
- 11:15Speaker 2: opponent on their entire schedule.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where it comes down to.
- 11:18Speaker 2: So that part of victory will matter.
