- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up you guys. I'm Haley and I'm Andrea, and
- 0:03Speaker 1: this is Inhuman, a true crime podcast. So I'm just
- 0:07Speaker 1: going to dive right into it today because this is
- 0:10Speaker 1: going to be a very long case. I think I
- 0:14Speaker 1: have fourteen pages, single spaced of notes.
- 0:18Speaker 2: So that's like the longest research I think either one
- 0:23Speaker 2: of us has ever had so far.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think so too, And you'll kind of
- 0:29Speaker 1: find out why. I mean, it's a crazy case. There
- 0:31Speaker 1: was a lot of information on it. Yeah, and this
- 0:34Speaker 1: isn't even everything. There's some like details that I left out,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and I will also like point you guys to where
- 0:42Speaker 1: you can find those details at those points because there
- 0:47Speaker 1: was stuff that I left out. So wow.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a crazy one for sure. There's a lot
- 0:52Speaker 2: of details and just stuff. Yeah, I'll let you get
- 0:56Speaker 2: into it though.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah. So today we are going to be cover bring
- 1:00Speaker 1: the very mysterious death of Christian Andriakio. And I actually
- 1:06Speaker 1: hadn't heard of this case. I don't know how I
- 1:08Speaker 1: hadn't heard of it, but I hadn't and a friend
- 1:11Speaker 1: of ours, brit recommended it when I asked on Instagram
- 1:15Speaker 1: for like case suggestions, So shout out to you, Britt
- 1:18Speaker 1: if you're listening, because I dove deep into this case
- 1:23Speaker 1: and am now obsessed with it and I'm really excited
- 1:26Speaker 1: to be covering it.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I did the same thing, like I heard it
- 1:29Speaker 2: on another podcast and then yeah, I found out about
- 1:33Speaker 2: you know, the whole podcast that was on it, and.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I just like binged it, but I didn't remember it
- 1:39Speaker 3: for some reason.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I know, I know I when I listened. So there's
- 1:46Speaker 1: a whole podcast about this case called Culpable, and I
- 1:50Speaker 1: listened to it in research for this case. But in
- 1:54Speaker 1: my podcast app it showed that I had listened to
- 1:56Speaker 1: all the episodes before, but I legit to not remember
- 2:01Speaker 1: anything about this case, so it was all brand new
- 2:05Speaker 1: to me, even though apparently I've heard it before. And
- 2:08Speaker 1: before we get into this episode, I just want to
- 2:10Speaker 1: let you guys know that this case does involve a
- 2:12Speaker 1: lot of discussion of suicide, suicidal ideation, and graphic details
- 2:18Speaker 1: regarding suicide, so it may be triggering for some and
- 2:22Speaker 1: listener discretion for this episode is strongly advised. If you
- 2:26Speaker 1: are in crisis or in need of support, you can
- 2:30Speaker 1: call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at one eight hundred
- 2:34Speaker 1: two seven three eight two five five, or you can
- 2:38Speaker 1: text talk to seven four one seven four to one.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And for more resource resources, you can always visit the
- 2:46Speaker 1: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention website at ASFP dot org
- 2:51Speaker 1: slash find support, and all of that I will put
- 2:55Speaker 1: right down in the show notes as well. Let's get
- 2:58Speaker 1: into this case. So, as I'm mentioned, there is an
- 3:01Speaker 1: incredible podcast about this case called Culpable, and that's where
- 3:04Speaker 1: I got almost all of my information for this case.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It's like a full deep dive investigation into the case.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So that's where I got most of my information. And
- 3:15Speaker 1: the host of that podcast, Dennis Cooper, really did a
- 3:20Speaker 1: whole ton of investigating. He interviewed family and friends of
- 3:23Speaker 1: Christian and he even like facilitated and a more in
- 3:29Speaker 1: depth investigation back in twenty eighteen and twenty nineteen. So
- 3:33Speaker 1: a lot of investigation actually did come from the podcast,
- 3:37Speaker 1: which is why I wanted to listen to it. Usually
- 3:40Speaker 1: I don't like to listen to too many podcast episodes
- 3:42Speaker 1: about a case just because I don't want to, like,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you know, copy what people are saying or anything like that.
- 3:48Speaker 1: But for this one, it's not just a podcast about it.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It's literally like part of the investigation almost I mean
- 3:54Speaker 1: not police investigation, but the external investigation. And it's super
- 3:59Speaker 1: super interesting, so i'd recommend listening to it. Like I said,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm not going to cover all of the details, and
- 4:06Speaker 1: at certain points in as I'm telling the story, I'll
- 4:10Speaker 1: tell you, like which episodes of Culpabol have more details
- 4:13Speaker 1: on specific things. If you just like want more details
- 4:15Speaker 1: on one specific thing, you can just go listen to
- 4:17Speaker 1: that episode. So I'll be talking about Culpable a lot
- 4:21Speaker 1: and talking about Dennis Cooper, the host a lot as well.
- 4:24Speaker 1: So Christian Andriakio was twenty one years old when he
- 4:28Speaker 1: was killed by a gunshot wound to his head on
- 4:31Speaker 1: February twenty six, twenty fourteen. He was found in an
- 4:35Speaker 1: upstairs bathroom in his apartment, laying over headfirst into the bathtub.
- 4:41Speaker 1: The police ruled that Christian shot himself with his own
- 4:44Speaker 1: gun with his right hand and his head leaning over
- 4:47Speaker 1: the bathtub, but many believe that Christian's death was not
- 4:51Speaker 1: a suicide, and this case gets really crazy. So a
- 4:57Speaker 1: little bit of background. Christian Shane and Riakio was born
- 5:01Speaker 1: on November fourth, nineteen ninety two, to Ray and Todd
- 5:05Speaker 1: Well Todd is I believe his stepfather, but his parents
- 5:09Speaker 1: are Ray and Todd and he was born in Dalewood
- 5:12Speaker 1: in the Dalewood neighborhood in Lauderdale, Mississippi. He had one
- 5:17Speaker 1: older brother, Josh, and a younger sister, Alexa. Christian was
- 5:22Speaker 1: described as the life of the party and he was
- 5:25Speaker 1: extremely friendly to everyone around him. He loved to ride
- 5:29Speaker 1: dirt bikes, and he also really loved being on the water.
- 5:33Speaker 1: In twenty fourteen, Christian was twenty one years old and
- 5:36Speaker 1: he was on his way to becoming the youngest boat
- 5:39Speaker 1: captain in Mississippi history. So he really loved working on
- 5:42Speaker 1: the water, and he had worked his way up from
- 5:45Speaker 1: being a deckhand to a first mate, and his career
- 5:48Speaker 1: in voting really had a great trajectory at just twenty
- 5:51Speaker 1: one years old. When Christian was fifteen, he started dating
- 5:55Speaker 1: fourteen year old Avery Smith and they were together for
- 5:58Speaker 1: about five years, and in an interview on the Culpable podcast,
- 6:03Speaker 1: Avery described a time that they had kind of like
- 6:06Speaker 1: become friends before they were dating, and she got scared
- 6:10Speaker 1: during a jump scene in a scary movie and he
- 6:13Speaker 1: reached out and told her, as long as you're with me,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you're safe, and that's just like it just shows you
- 6:18Speaker 1: the type of person he was. He really just was
- 6:21Speaker 1: very loving and such a sweet person, and him and
- 6:25Speaker 1: Avery's relationship really blossomed. Her family loved Christian, with his
- 6:29Speaker 1: mom or her mom even saying he dated the whole family.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Basically everybody loved him. And at first Avery's dad was
- 6:39Speaker 1: actually like upset that Avery wasn't spending a ton of
- 6:42Speaker 1: time with him anymore. But Christian like almost took that
- 6:46Speaker 1: as like, Okay, well, I want to win him over
- 6:48Speaker 1: then because he's upset, and he did that, and Avery's
- 6:52Speaker 1: dad and Christian ended up having a very special relationship.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But sadly, Avery and Christian did break up after they
- 6:59Speaker 1: kind of just were growing apart and they got older,
- 7:02Speaker 1: they were going down their own separate paths, but both
- 7:07Speaker 1: of them and all of their friends and family kind
- 7:10Speaker 1: of always thought that the other two or that the
- 7:12Speaker 1: two would like end up back together. So they you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: Avery was starting to study that VET medicine in college,
- 7:19Speaker 1: so her free time was limited, and then Christian was
- 7:22Speaker 1: working on boats, so it put a strain on their relationship.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But after they broke up, Christian would always tell people
- 7:30Speaker 1: that he would stay living in their hometown until he
- 7:33Speaker 1: was at least twenty seven because that's when Avery would
- 7:35Speaker 1: be done with VET school. So they broke up in
- 7:39Speaker 1: twenty thirteen, and after that things with Christian kind of
- 7:44Speaker 1: started to change. Not everything, but friends and family were
- 7:47Speaker 1: noticing some things. He was working on a tugboat in
- 7:50Speaker 1: the area and he began dating a girl named Whitley Goodman,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and around this time he also became friends with a
- 7:57Speaker 1: guy named Dylan Swearingen, and Christian was spending a ton
- 8:03Speaker 1: of time with Whitley and Dylan, and old friends of
- 8:06Speaker 1: his saw his personality kind of start to change. One
- 8:10Speaker 1: of Christian's longtime friends, Taylor, explained how Whitley was a
- 8:14Speaker 1: little bit more on the wild side and Taylor was
- 8:17Speaker 1: starting to see Christian less and less as he was
- 8:20Speaker 1: spending more time with Dylan and Whitley. Taylor didn't know
- 8:23Speaker 1: Dylan at all, and he would rarely see Christian without
- 8:28Speaker 1: Whitley and or Dylan tagging along. Taylor, also, like after
- 8:33Speaker 1: Christian's death, said that Christian never talked to him about
- 8:37Speaker 1: depression or anything, despite how close they were after having
- 8:41Speaker 1: worked on boats together for years, and he was absolutely
- 8:45Speaker 1: shocked when the police said that Christian killed himself. So
- 8:48Speaker 1: that's just like the first account of, you know, it
- 8:53Speaker 1: not seeming that he would have been suicide.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 1: So when Whitley and Christian started dating a little while after,
- 8:59Speaker 1: Whitley moved into Christian's parents' house with him, and Ray
- 9:03Speaker 1: and Todd weren't huge fans of Whitley, but they did
- 9:07Speaker 1: feel bad for her because she had told them that
- 9:10Speaker 1: her parents didn't really provide for her, so they tried
- 9:13Speaker 1: their best to be family for her and be supportive
- 9:17Speaker 1: of their relationship. But after a while, her personality kind
- 9:21Speaker 1: of changed from like the bubbly, sweet girl she initially was,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and they were just getting more and more frustrated. So
- 9:29Speaker 1: eventually Christian and Whitley moved out of the Andreachio's house
- 9:33Speaker 1: and they moved in with Christian, Chris, Christian's brother Josh.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Too many like sounds, Yeah, So they moved in with
- 9:44Speaker 1: Christian's brother Josh in Meridian, Mississippi, which was a nearby city.
- 9:49Speaker 1: They were living in an apartment, and Whitley would like
- 9:52Speaker 1: basically still be living in that apartment when Christian and
- 9:55Speaker 1: or Josh were on their thirty day long hitches, which
- 9:59Speaker 1: is basically like they would go out. I think of
- 10:01Speaker 1: it as like a charter season. I watched Below Decks,
- 10:03Speaker 1: so like it's like all about like quoting and charter
- 10:06Speaker 1: and so like you go out for like thirty days
- 10:09Speaker 1: and you're like on the job and then you come
- 10:12Speaker 1: back right. So on the second to last job Christian
- 10:15Speaker 1: was out on before his death, he actually was having
- 10:17Speaker 1: Josh drug test Whitley to make sure she wasn't getting
- 10:20Speaker 1: into any like bad shit while he was gone. And
- 10:24Speaker 1: at one point she refused to like take the drug
- 10:27Speaker 1: test and admitted that she had done drugs, and Christian
- 10:30Speaker 1: at that time had Josh kick her out of the apartment.
- 10:34Speaker 1: But of course Whitley was able to like wiggle her
- 10:36Speaker 1: way back into Christian's life by promising she wouldn't do
- 10:39Speaker 1: it again, et cetera, et cetera. Like the same shit
- 10:42Speaker 1: over and over.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Right, typical behavior for someone like that.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Yeah, And while Christian was on this hitch, Josh left
- 10:50Speaker 1: for a new thirty day hitch, and so Whitley was
- 10:53Speaker 1: living in the apartment on her own. And for some perspective,
- 10:56Speaker 1: she was seventeen years old, so she's now basically like
- 11:00Speaker 1: has her own apartment and is living on her own
- 11:03Speaker 1: and this was all being paid for by Christian. So
- 11:06Speaker 1: Christian Josh paid the rent. Whitley didn't contribute at all
- 11:10Speaker 1: because she was still in school, so she was, you know,
- 11:14Speaker 1: getting money for the rent and the utilities. And Josh
- 11:18Speaker 1: mentioned that he really felt like Whitley was just using
- 11:21Speaker 1: Christian at this point, like didn't even really like him,
- 11:24Speaker 1: just was using him for you know, the money and
- 11:27Speaker 1: being in apartment. Yeah, exactly.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and he was twenty one and she was seventeen, right, Yeah, Okay, it's.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Not like a crazy age difference, but definitely like.
- 11:39Speaker 2: It's iffy at that age because I mean, you're technically
- 11:43Speaker 2: still a child, you know, in the of the law,
- 11:46Speaker 2: and it's kind of crazy that she was even allowed
- 11:48Speaker 2: to like live out on her own.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I don't know what the laws are there, but you know.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. Her her parents and family were just
- 12:00Speaker 1: like very like not just not there. They weren't and
- 12:04Speaker 1: that's why she had moved into Christian's parents' house originally,
- 12:07Speaker 1: because she was just like, my parents just don't provide
- 12:10Speaker 1: for me, and so she just didn't have anybody looking
- 12:14Speaker 1: over her. So I guess nobody cared that she was
- 12:18Speaker 1: living on her own. Yeah, So on February twenty second,
- 12:21Speaker 1: twenty fourteen, Christian left for his next thirty day hitch,
- 12:25Speaker 1: and two days later, Josh recalls texting with him telling
- 12:30Speaker 1: him that he should break up with Whitley and to
- 12:33Speaker 1: stop letting her use him, And according to Josh, Christian
- 12:37Speaker 1: was quote pretty dead set on breaking up with her
- 12:40Speaker 1: and getting out of this town. So he had like
- 12:43Speaker 1: every intention of breaking up with her and leaving Meridian
- 12:47Speaker 1: and like kind of starting over, getting his life back.
- 12:52Speaker 1: But he had just started on this hitch, and so
- 12:55Speaker 1: he was, you know, out on the boat for the
- 12:57Speaker 1: next thirty days. Right to Dennis Cooper, the host of Culpobol,
- 13:03Speaker 1: leaving a tug boat on the Mississippi River in the
- 13:06Speaker 1: middle of a hitch isn't like the same as just
- 13:08Speaker 1: picking up and leaving most jobs. There are a lot
- 13:12Speaker 1: of questions why Christian exactly decided to leave this job
- 13:16Speaker 1: when he did, And some of the information about when
- 13:20Speaker 1: he left comes from Cheryl Stanley, who was a close
- 13:23Speaker 1: co worker of Christian, and Christian actually called her his
- 13:27Speaker 1: boat mama, and so they had a really close relationship
- 13:31Speaker 1: and she was explaining how things kind of went downhill
- 13:35Speaker 1: with Christian after he started dating Whitley, just like how
- 13:38Speaker 1: some of his friends and family had reported the same thing,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and Christian told Cheryl that the couple was having problems
- 13:45Speaker 1: and that he had kicked her out of the apartment
- 13:47Speaker 1: for doing drugs and once again another person. Cheryl believes
- 13:53Speaker 1: that Christian's death was the result of foul play. She
- 13:58Speaker 1: thinks that there was some sort of insurance policy that
- 14:02Speaker 1: Christian had, and Cheryl thinks that Whitley believed that Christian
- 14:08Speaker 1: was putting her as the beneficiary on the insurance policy,
- 14:12Speaker 1: which he actually did consider. He did talk to his
- 14:15Speaker 1: dad about it, but he never actually did it. So
- 14:19Speaker 1: the life insurance policy Christian did have and it was
- 14:24Speaker 1: going to his mother and his ex girlfriend, but Cheryl
- 14:29Speaker 1: thinks that Whitley believed that the money was going to
- 14:32Speaker 1: go to her and that led to something. That's just
- 14:34Speaker 1: Cheryl's opinion of it after everything happened, but it's definitely
- 14:39Speaker 1: something interesting to point out so unculpable. Cheryl was interviewed
- 14:44Speaker 1: and she recalled the night that Christian left the boat.
- 14:47Speaker 1: In February twenty fourteen, Christian's friend Dylan was basically like
- 14:52Speaker 1: reporting to Christian all this different shit that Whitley was doing,
- 14:56Speaker 1: like messing around and you know, getting into bad stuff.
- 15:00Speaker 1: So Christian decided to leave, basically to kick Whitley out
- 15:03Speaker 1: for good and make sure she got out. And he
- 15:07Speaker 1: actually told the captain of the boat that he would
- 15:09Speaker 1: be back the next evening, so it wasn't like he
- 15:14Speaker 1: was leaving and then was like going to stay home,
- 15:16Speaker 1: like he was planning to come back. Cheryl also said
- 15:19Speaker 1: in the interview that Christian's jeep was in a different
- 15:22Speaker 1: parking spot than where he had left it when the
- 15:25Speaker 1: trip began, so basically like he parked at one dock,
- 15:30Speaker 1: the boat took off, and then at this point in
- 15:32Speaker 1: the middle of the hitch, they were near a different dock,
- 15:36Speaker 1: so he didn't have his car and would have had
- 15:39Speaker 1: to go back to the original dock to access it.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And so it's kind of weird that his jeep was
- 15:46Speaker 1: in a different spot, but it was still in that
- 15:48Speaker 1: parking lot.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Yeah, like someone had access to his keys or something
- 15:53Speaker 2: and moved it right.
- 15:55Speaker 1: But unfortunately, the security cameras in that parking lot were
- 15:58Speaker 1: not operating, so we really have no clue what happened.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Shocking, shocking, all nice.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And then the last thing Cheryl talked about was just
- 16:08Speaker 1: like her frustration that investigators never spoke to her or
- 16:12Speaker 1: anyone else that was on the boat with Christian before
- 16:15Speaker 1: his death. And we'll see a theme throughout this whole
- 16:18Speaker 1: story of ways that the investigators didn't quite do everything
- 16:23Speaker 1: quote unquote correctly. Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 3: In my opinion, dropping the ball wants to drop in
- 16:28Speaker 3: the balls.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 1: So on February twenty sixth, twenty fourteen, around two thirty am,
- 16:34Speaker 1: Christian called a friend and co worker, a man named
- 16:38Speaker 1: Justin Burns, asking if he could pick him up from
- 16:41Speaker 1: his hitch, and Justin was like, yeah, I'll come. Like
- 16:45Speaker 1: he was close friends with Christian, he was like, yep,
- 16:47Speaker 1: I'll come pick you up. But as he was getting
- 16:49Speaker 1: ready to go, Christian called him again and said, never mind,
- 16:52Speaker 1: I'm find someone else is coming to pick me up.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And in Justin's interview on Culpable, he said, quote Christian said,
- 16:59Speaker 1: I want you to know something. He said, Bro, you're
- 17:02Speaker 1: one of my best friends. I couldn't call nobody else
- 17:05Speaker 1: at two thirty in the morning for them to come
- 17:07Speaker 1: get me. He said, I'll call you. I'll have somebody
- 17:10Speaker 1: call you to let you know that I'm okay. So
- 17:14Speaker 1: at that point Justin was like, okay, something's up, but
- 17:18Speaker 1: he listened to Christian. He had a family. He was like, okay,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I'm not going to go pick you up because you
- 17:24Speaker 1: told me not to, and you know, it is what
- 17:28Speaker 1: it is. But now Justin believes that Christian told him
- 17:34Speaker 1: not to come to protect him, like Christian was maybe worried.
- 17:38Speaker 1: This is again what Justin believes, but he believes that
- 17:41Speaker 1: maybe Christian was worried that something was going to happen
- 17:44Speaker 1: and he wanted to protect Justin. And he of course
- 17:48Speaker 1: wishes he knew why Christian had told him not to come,
- 17:51Speaker 1: but he'll never know. So we actually do know who
- 17:55Speaker 1: was going to pick Christian up that night instead of Justin.
- 17:58Speaker 1: It was Dylan's Learringen, the man who had recently become
- 18:03Speaker 1: friends with Christian, you know, when he started dating Whitley.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So Dylan drove four hours from Meridian to pick up
- 18:12Speaker 1: Christian that night, and according to what Dylan reported to
- 18:16Speaker 1: the police after Christian's death, Christian called Dylan around one
- 18:20Speaker 1: thirty am and he left his house around four am
- 18:23Speaker 1: to go pick him up and Dylan said that the
- 18:26Speaker 1: drive home with Christian was like pretty normal with them,
- 18:30Speaker 1: just like discussing, chatting, like normal. But he also said
- 18:33Speaker 1: that Christian told him that him and Whitley were having
- 18:36Speaker 1: issues and he was returning home because of this. So
- 18:39Speaker 1: it seems to be from multiple accounts that he was
- 18:42Speaker 1: coming home to deal with something going on with Whitley. Right,
- 18:45Speaker 1: So this whole following this next account, it's all going
- 18:48Speaker 1: to be from police, from Dylan's like police interview and statement.
- 18:52Speaker 1: So this is what happened that day in you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: according to Dylan, when the two got back to Meridian,
- 19:02Speaker 1: Christian confronted Whitley about where she had been the night
- 19:05Speaker 1: before because he knew from her phone location that she
- 19:09Speaker 1: hadn't been at home at the apartment. And Dylan was
- 19:12Speaker 1: listening to this argument from upstairs, the upstairs part of
- 19:15Speaker 1: the apartment, and he remembers that Whitley did admit to
- 19:19Speaker 1: being with another guy, Matt Miller, and said she said
- 19:23Speaker 1: that she had used xanax that night and couldn't remember
- 19:26Speaker 1: what happened. And according to Dylan, Christian was repeating repeatedly
- 19:30Speaker 1: asking Whitley, do you love me? And eventually Christian took
- 19:34Speaker 1: out his gun and pointed it at his own head
- 19:38Speaker 1: and was asking again do you love me? So Whitley
- 19:42Speaker 1: told him yes, and Christian finally calmed down, and then
- 19:45Speaker 1: Dylan went and took the gun from Christian and hit
- 19:47Speaker 1: it because he was like, Okay, there's something going on here.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna go take the gun. Diffuse the situation. Hide
- 19:53Speaker 1: the gun, right. Dylan said that that the three of
- 19:56Speaker 1: them settled in to watch a movie and then and
- 20:01Speaker 1: Dylan left the apartment to kind of give the couple
- 20:04Speaker 1: some alone time and also go get some food. And
- 20:07Speaker 1: he said that at this point, Christian asked Dylan to
- 20:11Speaker 1: go to the bank and take all of the money
- 20:13Speaker 1: out of his account, which is just like really weird. Yeah,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and he ends up actually not being able to take
- 20:19Speaker 1: the money out because he wasn't like the account holder,
- 20:24Speaker 1: so he wasn't able to do it. But yeah, just
- 20:26Speaker 1: kind of weird.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Yeah, And what time is this supposed to be when
- 20:29Speaker 3: all this is occurring, because didn't you get picked up
- 20:31Speaker 3: in like the middle of the night basically.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah, So they got home around like nine or ten
- 20:37Speaker 1: in the morning, I believe, and they so this was
- 20:43Speaker 1: like a little bit after that, you know, eleven twelve
- 20:46Speaker 1: o'clock ish, there's not like a specific timeline. Actually, hold on,
- 20:51Speaker 1: that's wrong. I heard in one of the Q and
- 20:54Speaker 1: A episodes of Culpobol that the Chick fil A receipt
- 20:57Speaker 1: was at one oh six pm. Okay, so like that,
- 21:00Speaker 1: you know, they got home. I think they got home
- 21:02Speaker 1: around eleven, I want to say, because it was like
- 21:05Speaker 1: a four hour drive, so he drove four hours and
- 21:09Speaker 1: then had to drive four hours back. So yeah, I
- 21:11Speaker 1: think they got home around eleven, and then this whole
- 21:14Speaker 1: like argument happened, and then finally Dylan went and got food.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Okay, It's just weird because like no one slept.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, and then he just stayed like
- 21:26Speaker 2: hung out.
- 21:26Speaker 3: After all that, I would have awkwardly been like, okay,
- 21:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna go home now.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not like Dylan lived in the apartment with them,
- 21:33Speaker 1: like he just stayed there. It was weird. Yeah, yep.
- 21:39Speaker 1: When Dylan got back from getting the Chick fil A,
- 21:42Speaker 1: everything seemed more or less normal, and Christian and Whitley
- 21:45Speaker 1: then left the apartment to quote take a ride. Later,
- 21:50Speaker 1: Dylan had woke up from a nap. He you know,
- 21:53Speaker 1: had fallen asleep because he hadn't slept while they were gone,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and he found Whitley asleep in the apartment and Christian
- 22:00Speaker 1: was smoking in the living room. So after that, Dylan
- 22:05Speaker 1: said that he left the apartment to go check out
- 22:08Speaker 1: some speakers at Best Buy, but before he left, he
- 22:12Speaker 1: took Christian's gun out of the hiding spot that he
- 22:14Speaker 1: had put it in and gave it back to Christian
- 22:17Speaker 1: and told him, hey, like, unload it, but here's your gun,
- 22:21Speaker 1: which like.
- 22:23Speaker 2: That's suspicious, yeah, covering it's yeah, yeah, Why would you
- 22:30Speaker 2: take the gun out?
- 22:31Speaker 1: And you left earlier and kept the gun in the
- 22:35Speaker 1: hiding spot? So why does Christian need his gun? If
- 22:38Speaker 1: you're just running out to best Buy and you're going
- 22:41Speaker 1: to be back, why would you need to give it
- 22:42Speaker 1: back to him? Now? Give it back to him the
- 22:44Speaker 1: next day or like, you know, when he leaves back
- 22:47Speaker 1: for his hitch, not randomly before you go run the
- 22:51Speaker 1: best Buy.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Especially because like even though things, you know, according to him,
- 22:56Speaker 2: seemed normal, like they're getting Chick fil a, they're watching
- 22:59Speaker 2: a movie. Every one's like going to sleep and hanging out.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I would still be apprehensive to give him back his
- 23:06Speaker 2: gun if that really did occur, that things are still
- 23:10Speaker 2: heated and something could transpire while I'm gone, So that, yeah,
- 23:13Speaker 2: that doesn't add up at all unless you like wanted
- 23:15Speaker 2: him to kill hisself, right, Yeah, exactly, No, definitely suspicious.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:21Speaker 1: So when Dylan returned back to the apartment from this
- 23:24Speaker 1: little best buy outing, he assumed that Christian was in
- 23:28Speaker 1: the bathroom showering because he didn't find him downstairs, and
- 23:31Speaker 1: he saw that the bathroom door was closed, and he
- 23:35Speaker 1: was like Christian, are you okay? Like what's going on?
- 23:38Speaker 1: And Christian didn't respond, which, like, I mean, I go
- 23:43Speaker 1: back and forth with this because I kind of get
- 23:47Speaker 1: why you would be like, hey, Christian, what's going on?
- 23:49Speaker 1: But also, like, this guy's your friend. If you think
- 23:51Speaker 1: he's showering, why wouldn't you just like hang out for
- 23:53Speaker 1: a little bit, yeah, and wait for him to be
- 23:56Speaker 1: done showering. But also I get it, like there was
- 23:59Speaker 1: a lot going on on, so maybe you wanted to
- 24:01Speaker 1: like check on him. I don't know. Yeah, So Christian
- 24:05Speaker 1: was not responding, and so he entered the bathroom and
- 24:09Speaker 1: what he saw was horrible. Christian was laying face down
- 24:13Speaker 1: in the bathtub, covered in blood and Dylan then screamed
- 24:17Speaker 1: to Whitley, who was sleeping downstairs. She ran upstairs and
- 24:22Speaker 1: like dove down to hold Christian, and Dylan then called
- 24:26Speaker 1: nine one one around four forty five pm. So most
- 24:30Speaker 1: of Dylan's story does check out with like surveillance and
- 24:33Speaker 1: witness accounts, and like I mentioned the Chick fil A receipt,
- 24:36Speaker 1: but he was never confirmed to be at Best Buy.
- 24:39Speaker 1: But he also wasn't one hundred percent confirmed to not
- 24:41Speaker 1: be there, so you know, there's no saying whether or
- 24:45Speaker 1: not he was there. But yeah, so that's his story
- 24:50Speaker 1: of what happened. And now I'm gonna tell you Whitley's
- 24:53Speaker 1: story from her police interview and statement. Okay, Whitley did
- 24:58Speaker 1: admit that her and Christian had trust issues and those
- 25:01Speaker 1: escalated when Christian left for this latest hitch. On February
- 25:06Speaker 1: twenty fifth, the day before Christian's death. Whitley claims that
- 25:10Speaker 1: Christian told her he was quitting his job and coming home.
- 25:13Speaker 1: And this goes against what we learned earlier from like
- 25:17Speaker 1: Cheryl the coworker, and also what Christian told the captain
- 25:22Speaker 1: that he'd be back the next day.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Whitley said that Christian had told her quote, he felt
- 25:28Speaker 1: like between me and his mom, he couldn't make anyone happy.
- 25:33Speaker 1: So she's saying like he wasn't happy, he was quitting
- 25:37Speaker 1: his job, he was upset, all of this.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Lining it up to make it sound he was possibly
- 25:43Speaker 2: depressed or m h exactly.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So Whitley doesn't really tell an account of what happened
- 25:51Speaker 1: when Christian got home, but she says that she had
- 25:54Speaker 1: fallen asleep and she had taken xanax, so she was
- 25:58Speaker 1: like knocked out and she was awoken by Dylan and
- 26:02Speaker 1: then she went upstairs and found Christian in a pile
- 26:05Speaker 1: of blood. So she did not say that Dylan screamed
- 26:10Speaker 1: at her and she ran upstairs. She's saying that Dylan
- 26:14Speaker 1: came home, woke her up, and then Whitley like just
- 26:16Speaker 1: went upstairs and found Christian. So obviously there are inconsistencies
- 26:24Speaker 1: between these two stories. Whitley also never mentioned the incident
- 26:28Speaker 1: that Dylan was talking about earlier in the day where
- 26:31Speaker 1: Christian had held the gun to his head, And it's
- 26:33Speaker 1: kind of weird that if that did happen, would she
- 26:36Speaker 1: really not remember it or mention it.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I Like, I feel like she definitely would especially if
- 26:43Speaker 2: you know they're claiming he committed suicide, that could be
- 26:46Speaker 2: a telling, you know, bit of detail to kind of
- 26:50Speaker 2: lead up to that incident happening.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Yep. And so if we believe Whitley and that didn't happen,
- 26:59Speaker 1: why did Dylan say it happened. So it's just there's
- 27:01Speaker 1: a lot of inconsistencies between their two accounts yep. And
- 27:06Speaker 1: police also obtained text messages between Whitley and Matt Miller,
- 27:11Speaker 1: and this actually we later find out that these were
- 27:14Speaker 1: on Christian's phone because Whitley's phone had been broken and
- 27:19Speaker 1: they were actually deleted. There were some texts that were
- 27:23Speaker 1: deleted from the phone and were later like recovered. But
- 27:27Speaker 1: these text messages, and remember Matt Miller is the guy
- 27:31Speaker 1: that she had spent was with the night before and
- 27:34Speaker 1: the guy that Christian thought that, you know, something was
- 27:37Speaker 1: going on with. So in these Whitley told Matt that
- 27:43Speaker 1: Christian was kicking her out and was like, can you
- 27:46Speaker 1: come pick me up? There were also six different calls
- 27:49Speaker 1: from Christian's phone to Matt Miller in a ten minute
- 27:55Speaker 1: time span between three forty four and three fifty four PM.
- 28:00Speaker 1: So there were these texts there were calls, and Matt
- 28:02Speaker 1: didn't respond until later and said, sorry, it was I
- 28:07Speaker 1: was asleep. I had just gotten back from work and
- 28:09Speaker 1: had fallen asleep. So police arrived to the apartment around
- 28:14Speaker 1: five PM after Dylan called nine one one and pronounced
- 28:18Speaker 1: Christian dead on the scene. The coroner estimated at this
- 28:21Speaker 1: point that Christian's time of death was three thirty PM.
- 28:25Speaker 1: But like I just mentioned, there were those calls from
- 28:28Speaker 1: Christian's phone between three forty four and three fifty four,
- 28:32Speaker 1: which is why investigators believed that it was Whitley that called,
- 28:37Speaker 1: because if he died at three thirty before that, it
- 28:40Speaker 1: was Whitley who was calling.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:42Speaker 1: But again, remember Dylan didn't return home until after four o'clock.
- 28:48Speaker 1: He called nine one one at four forty five, so
- 28:51Speaker 1: this is supposedly before Dylan came home, but after Christian
- 28:57Speaker 1: was already dead. Yes, okay according to the corner right
- 29:03Speaker 1: at this point, which could be like within.
- 29:07Speaker 2: An hour technically, because they don't it's hard to really
- 29:10Speaker 2: narrow it down like that.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of weird that there were six calls
- 29:15Speaker 1: from Christian's phone. Christian's phone was also used between four
- 29:19Speaker 1: forty eight and four fifty five to call an unknown
- 29:23Speaker 1: number a friend of Dylan's and Dylan's mother. So this
- 29:28Speaker 1: does make a little bit more sense because he called
- 29:31Speaker 1: nine one one at four forty five, and so Dylan,
- 29:35Speaker 1: I don't know why he didn't use his phone, but
- 29:38Speaker 1: we way, way way later do actually get to hear
- 29:42Speaker 1: the nine one one call, and Dylan was saying, so like,
- 29:47Speaker 1: when I was researching this part, I didn't know this
- 29:49Speaker 1: because this wasn't revealed until later. But I'm going to
- 29:52Speaker 1: bring it up here because it makes it a little
- 29:54Speaker 1: more clear, and like, there's no reason to speculate about
- 29:56Speaker 1: these calls because on the nine one one call, Dylan
- 29:59Speaker 1: is saying to the operator, okay, like you know, if
- 30:03Speaker 1: you have all the information, I need to call the family,
- 30:05Speaker 1: Like I need to call Christian's family. So that's probably
- 30:08Speaker 1: what he was doing. Also, before we move on, I
- 30:11Speaker 1: want to note that Whitley had Christian's phone when she
- 30:15Speaker 1: went to the police station, and she didn't tell them
- 30:17Speaker 1: about it for a while, which is just kind of weird,
- 30:20Speaker 1: Like she had his phone and like didn't be like, hey,
- 30:23Speaker 1: here's his phone, Like let's figure out what was going on. Yeah,
- 30:27Speaker 1: So Whitley and Dylan went down to the police station
- 30:29Speaker 1: and gave their statements, which is what I just went through.
- 30:32Speaker 1: And Ray, Christian's mother was notified of Christian's death, and
- 30:37Speaker 1: at first she didn't believe it because she knew that
- 30:40Speaker 1: Christian had been out of town on his hitch. So
- 30:42Speaker 1: not just like, oh, no, way, my son committed suicide.
- 30:46Speaker 1: It was like, no, he didn't, like he's working, Yeah, exactly.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 1: So Ray called her brother or who's Christian's uncle, Chris,
- 30:55Speaker 1: and he was the one that went to Christian's apartment
- 30:58Speaker 1: to see what was going on. And when he got there,
- 31:01Speaker 1: police told him that Christian's body had already been taken away,
- 31:04Speaker 1: but they kind of like let him go inside and
- 31:07Speaker 1: were like, it's not a crime scene because it was
- 31:11Speaker 1: a suicide. So it was already ruled a suicide, and
- 31:14Speaker 1: so Chris like was able to just go inside. He actually,
- 31:19Speaker 1: as he was about to go inside, he was like, wait, wait, wait,
- 31:21Speaker 1: should I not go inside because of I don't want
- 31:24Speaker 1: to like mess anything up, And they were like, no,
- 31:26Speaker 1: it's it's not a crime scene.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Basically, that's so frustrating.
- 31:30Speaker 1: We also later find out, I'm not sure exactly at
- 31:33Speaker 1: what point we find this out, I can't remember, but
- 31:37Speaker 1: they it took them forty five minutes to rule it
- 31:40Speaker 1: a suicide, so they only like looked at the scene
- 31:42Speaker 1: and like, you know, looked around for forty five minutes
- 31:45Speaker 1: and then said it was a suicide. So Chris was,
- 31:49Speaker 1: you know, there was a lot about the scene that
- 31:51Speaker 1: kind of like he wasn't sure about, one being an
- 31:54Speaker 1: extreme lack of blood splatter for what would have been
- 31:59Speaker 1: or what he thought would have been there if Christian
- 32:01Speaker 1: had been killed in there. And also the fact that
- 32:05Speaker 1: the gun was found on Christian's left hand side, even
- 32:08Speaker 1: though he was right handed. So we will like get
- 32:11Speaker 1: into all of this, but Chris did notice that Chris
- 32:15Speaker 1: also found it weird that there was a little tiny
- 32:17Speaker 1: amount of blood on the outside of the bathroom door,
- 32:20Speaker 1: which would have been on the inside of the bathroom
- 32:22Speaker 1: if it was open. But according to Dylan, the door
- 32:26Speaker 1: was closed and he found Christian inside, so you know,
- 32:29Speaker 1: Christian wouldn't have been able to shoot himself and then
- 32:31Speaker 1: close the door. But it also there was a point
- 32:34Speaker 1: brought up later that I don't know if I included
- 32:36Speaker 1: it or not, but I'm gonna mention it here because
- 32:39Speaker 1: I remember hearing it and being like okay, kind of
- 32:41Speaker 1: to play Devil's advocate. There was a lot going on
- 32:44Speaker 1: in that like crime scene, whether or not it was
- 32:47Speaker 1: a suicide or murder, Like, there was a lot of
- 32:50Speaker 1: like the ambulance or what are they called paramedics. Paramedics
- 32:54Speaker 1: came in and like Dylan and Whitley went in there
- 32:57Speaker 1: and stuff. So there could have been some likes forer
- 33:00Speaker 1: of blood because there was still blood. There just wasn't
- 33:03Speaker 1: as much as Chris would have thought, but there was
- 33:06Speaker 1: still blood, so that could have possibly been how it
- 33:10Speaker 1: got on the door. So just like I don't know.
- 33:12Speaker 1: When I heard that, I was like, Okay, that doesn't
- 33:14Speaker 1: seem as suspicious to me. There's other stuff that seems
- 33:18Speaker 1: more suspicious. So so yeah, we'll get into like more
- 33:23Speaker 1: about the crime scene in a little bit, but first
- 33:26Speaker 1: there was one other very important thing that was reported
- 33:29Speaker 1: by police. And this is one of the I think
- 33:33Speaker 1: like craziest and the things that makes this case the
- 33:38Speaker 1: most complicated and like varying reports and stuff. That is
- 33:42Speaker 1: a gunshot residue. So when you shoot a gun, there
- 33:45Speaker 1: is like gunpowder residue on your hands. I've never shot
- 33:49Speaker 1: a gun, so I don't know what that books or
- 33:52Speaker 1: feels like. So does it like not can you like
- 33:56Speaker 1: tell that there's gunpowder residue on your hands?
- 33:59Speaker 3: I have shotguns before where there was like a slight
- 34:02Speaker 3: color like discoloration. It's more of the.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Smell, like the smell of the interesting gunpowder on your hands.
- 34:10Speaker 3: So it depends on I guess I'm not like a
- 34:12Speaker 3: gun expert, but I.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Think it depends on like the caliber maybe, and like
- 34:16Speaker 2: how much you're shooting as to like if there's actual
- 34:19Speaker 2: visual but there's even if there's not visual, there's gonna
- 34:23Speaker 2: be a testable residue on there.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Right, Okay, okay, So yeah, So they tested Christian, Dylan,
- 34:32Speaker 1: and Whitley all through the people that were in the apartment,
- 34:35Speaker 1: and this is what they found. I'm gonna break it down.
- 34:38Speaker 1: So on Christian's hands, they found gun residue or gunpowder
- 34:43Speaker 1: residue on his right palm and the back of his
- 34:47Speaker 1: left hand. On Dylan's hands, they found residue on the
- 34:51Speaker 1: back of both of his hands and his left palm.
- 34:55Speaker 1: And he didn't have any reason to have gunpowder residue
- 35:00Speaker 1: on his hands, to be fair, if he would have
- 35:04Speaker 1: touched the gun when he first found Christian. It could
- 35:08Speaker 1: have transferred because it does transfer very easily. But he
- 35:11Speaker 1: never said he moved or touched the gun, so he
- 35:14Speaker 1: really has no reason. But he was never questioned about that.
- 35:20Speaker 2: And he would have no reason to touch the gun,
- 35:22Speaker 2: you know, like you know, you leave everything, I mean,
- 35:26Speaker 2: you should leave everything as it is.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and he I mean, he told a very detailed
- 35:30Speaker 1: story and he never said, oh, I moved the gun
- 35:33Speaker 1: out of the way or anything like that, so like
- 35:35Speaker 1: you think he would have mentioned that if it was
- 35:37Speaker 1: something that happened.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:39Speaker 1: And there was also residue on the back of both
- 35:42Speaker 1: of Whitley's hands and both of her palms, and when
- 35:48Speaker 1: they told her that they were going to test her
- 35:50Speaker 1: for residue, she immediately was like, oh, I shot a
- 35:54Speaker 1: gun last night, and that would explain why she had
- 35:58Speaker 1: residue on her hands. And she said that the night
- 36:01Speaker 1: before she was with Matt Miller, which she had said before,
- 36:04Speaker 1: and his cousin Jet, along with some other friends of theirs,
- 36:08Speaker 1: and they had shot guns in a field that night before.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Jet later confirmed that Whitley did shoot a gun the
- 36:16Speaker 1: night before, but Matt said Whitley did not shoot a
- 36:22Speaker 1: gun the night before. So there was a lot of
- 36:26Speaker 1: varying information about what happened the night before. So you know,
- 36:33Speaker 1: it's it's questionable she had gun powder residue on her hands.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Whether that was from the night before or not is
- 36:42Speaker 1: a huge question in this case.
- 36:45Speaker 2: And I feel like if she I don't know, I
- 36:47Speaker 2: feel like if you shoot a gun and then like
- 36:50Speaker 2: I mean, maybe she didn't take a shower, maybe she
- 36:52Speaker 2: didn't wash her hands after she's the bathroom, I don't know.
- 36:56Speaker 2: But if you do that, like I mean, it can
- 37:00Speaker 2: still I guess stick around. But a lot of instances
- 37:04Speaker 2: I think, if you like are showering and washing your hands, like,
- 37:07Speaker 2: it doesn't stick.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Around that long. You know. Again not a gun expert, but.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, just the fact that it was found
- 37:16Speaker 1: on the front and back of both of her hands,
- 37:18Speaker 1: Like that's not just like on one spot. Maybe you
- 37:21Speaker 1: missed washing that part.
- 37:22Speaker 3: That's peculiar.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Matt also told so he Matt was only really
- 37:27Speaker 1: brought into this investigation because he was with Whitley the
- 37:31Speaker 1: night before when she claimed to have shot the gun.
- 37:34Speaker 1: And when he was interviewed, he also told, you know,
- 37:38Speaker 1: police that Whitley had told him that Dylan found Christian
- 37:45Speaker 1: and woke her up, telling her I found Christian, which
- 37:49Speaker 1: varies from Whitley's original story where she said that Matt
- 37:54Speaker 1: or Dylan woke her up downstairs and then she went
- 37:57Speaker 1: upstairs and found Dylan or found Christian. Right, Okay, let
- 38:01Speaker 1: me recap that. So Whitley originally told police that she
- 38:05Speaker 1: was asleep, Dylan came home and woke her up, and
- 38:08Speaker 1: then she went upstairs and found Christian dead in the bathroom.
- 38:13Speaker 1: She is now telling Matt, this guy that she was
- 38:17Speaker 1: hanging out with, that she had told police that Dylan
- 38:22Speaker 1: was the one that found Christian. So her story is changing,
- 38:26Speaker 1: it's not staying consistent. And Matt was like, what the heck?
- 38:29Speaker 1: But again he's not really involved and he I think
- 38:33Speaker 1: probably wanted to stay out of it.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it doesn't matter to him who found Christian, you
- 38:38Speaker 3: know exactly.
- 38:40Speaker 1: So at this point, Ray Christian's mom was completely unconvinced
- 38:44Speaker 1: that her son committed suicide. She also didn't believe Whitley's
- 38:49Speaker 1: story about shooting guns the night before. Just from what
- 38:52Speaker 1: she knew of Whitley, she just didn't believe it. The
- 38:54Speaker 1: Meridian Police Department kept a lot close to the vest
- 38:58Speaker 1: in this case after they roll ruled Christian's death a suicide.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Like I said, just forty five minutes after finding him.
- 39:05Speaker 1: You know, family and friends kept telling them like, hey,
- 39:08Speaker 1: we don't think that this was self inflicted. We don't
- 39:12Speaker 1: think that this is what actually happened. But the Meridian
- 39:16Speaker 1: Police Department never publicly investigated much more into the case
- 39:20Speaker 1: because they had already made their ruling. The original lead
- 39:23Speaker 1: detective on the case also like was super just shape
- 39:27Speaker 1: not shady because he wasn't like doing anything bad, but
- 39:30Speaker 1: he just was not responding to the Andreacchios like not.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I think he was just like these people are just
- 39:37Speaker 1: like trying to open an investigation into something that's a suicide,
- 39:40Speaker 1: and I don't deal with it. Whatever. Yeah, the Mississippi
- 39:44Speaker 1: Bureau of Investigation or the NBI did do an investigation
- 39:49Speaker 1: after Ray kind of kept pushing for it. But they
- 39:52Speaker 1: also came to the conclusion of a suicide. And the
- 39:56Speaker 1: culpabol podcast covered the MBI's investigation in episode seven, And
- 40:02Speaker 1: I'm not going to go into it for this episode
- 40:04Speaker 1: because all we really need to know is that they
- 40:07Speaker 1: came to the conclusion of suicide. But if you want
- 40:10Speaker 1: to hear more about the NBI's investigation and stuff. You
- 40:13Speaker 1: should go listen to episode seven of Culpable, but for
- 40:17Speaker 1: our purposes, Christian's death was ruled as a suicide by
- 40:20Speaker 1: the Meridian Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
- 40:24Speaker 1: So after this lack of support from police and the MBI,
- 40:29Speaker 1: Ray basically went like full steam ahead and dove like
- 40:34Speaker 1: straight into driving an investigation into her son's death. She
- 40:37Speaker 1: was determined to get him justice and find out what
- 40:41Speaker 1: actually happened. And she did try to work with the
- 40:44Speaker 1: Meridian Police and the MBI, but it just didn't go
- 40:48Speaker 1: anywhere and they had already made their conclusions. So she
- 40:51Speaker 1: started working with private detectives. One of these detectives was
- 40:56Speaker 1: Max Mays, who Dennis interviewed on Culpable, and May's was
- 41:01Speaker 1: somebody that had worked as a police officer and for
- 41:04Speaker 1: the d DA's office for many years, and then after
- 41:08Speaker 1: he retired, he started working to help criminal defense attorneys,
- 41:13Speaker 1: so he had a lot of experience in this, so
- 41:16Speaker 1: he was helping, you know, starting to investigate the case.
- 41:20Speaker 1: And he also had worked with a woman named Cynthia
- 41:24Speaker 1: spet Jans beat Jans. I'm one hundred percent sure how
- 41:26Speaker 1: to say that, But she was a prosecutor that had
- 41:30Speaker 1: then become a criminal defense lawyer, and she actually had
- 41:33Speaker 1: a mutual friend of Ray Andreachio and ended up meeting
- 41:38Speaker 1: with Ray in twenty sixteen, two years after Christian's death,
- 41:43Speaker 1: and once she met with Ray, she was like, Okay,
- 41:45Speaker 1: I need to help the family figure out what's going on.
- 41:48Speaker 1: So it was just a coincidence that this private investigator,
- 41:52Speaker 1: Max had worked with Cynthia before, and then Cynthia was
- 41:56Speaker 1: introduced to Ray. But these two started working on the
- 41:58Speaker 1: case with Ray and the Andreacchio family. So Cynthia dove
- 42:02Speaker 1: headfirst into this case and she, you know, once she
- 42:05Speaker 1: learned all the details, she did not believe in any
- 42:08Speaker 1: way that it was a suicide, especially when she learned
- 42:11Speaker 1: that the gun was found on Christian's left side, even
- 42:14Speaker 1: though he was right handed, and she was extremely frustrated
- 42:18Speaker 1: by the police's investigation into this case.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a huge Was it a red herring? Is
- 42:24Speaker 3: that what they call it? A red herring?
- 42:26Speaker 1: Yeah, like at least look into it.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 42:29Speaker 2: It's like like every case almost that we have covered,
- 42:32Speaker 2: they're not doing their due diligence, and.
- 42:35Speaker 3: I don't I don't get it. I don't get it
- 42:38Speaker 3: I know at all.
- 42:40Speaker 1: So both Cynthia and Max kind of became a big
- 42:43Speaker 1: light in the Andreachio family's lives because they were, you know,
- 42:47Speaker 1: people who were They weren't police, so they didn't have
- 42:50Speaker 1: a ton of influence, but they were people who believed
- 42:53Speaker 1: them and were helping them work toward proving that Christian
- 42:57Speaker 1: did not commit suicide. So I decided to kind of
- 43:00Speaker 1: dig into some of the evidence and forensics of the
- 43:03Speaker 1: scene because I think that that's super important in this case,
- 43:08Speaker 1: and it's also stuff that I find super interesting. Like
- 43:10Speaker 1: I actually wanted to be a crime scene investigator after
- 43:13Speaker 1: I watched CSI Miami, but I could not do it
- 43:17Speaker 1: because like, blood freaks me out. So I'm like, no,
- 43:20Speaker 1: thank you, but it would be really cool.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I just think it's cool to like, like, I
- 43:24Speaker 2: don't know, I feel like I'm good at like that
- 43:27Speaker 2: kind of stuff, like figuring things out, so it's super
- 43:31Speaker 2: interesting to me.
- 43:31Speaker 3: But yeah, the blood thing was like, nah, maybe I'll
- 43:34Speaker 3: just not do that.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Yeah, same, but we can still research and read about it.
- 43:40Speaker 1: So I did kind of dive into this a little
- 43:43Speaker 1: bit for this case. In twenty sixteen, the Andreacchio's hi
- 43:47Speaker 1: hired Michael Knox, who was a forensic consultant and he
- 43:53Speaker 1: specialized in ballistics and shooting incident reconstruction, so you know,
- 43:58Speaker 1: kind of makes sense for this case. And Denis actually
- 44:01Speaker 1: interviewed him for the podcast, and you know, we're asking
- 44:05Speaker 1: him about this report that he put together on Christian's case.
- 44:09Speaker 1: So Michael explained how he does cover a lot where
- 44:14Speaker 1: it's a suicide and the family believes it was a
- 44:17Speaker 1: murder or like not a suicide, and he said, usually
- 44:20Speaker 1: it does end up being a suicide, but in Christian's case,
- 44:24Speaker 1: him and his whole team really did not believe it
- 44:26Speaker 1: was a suicide. Michael explained once again how there was
- 44:30Speaker 1: a lot of evidence in the case that was never
- 44:32Speaker 1: really properly looked into or investigated. And during his investigation,
- 44:38Speaker 1: Michael and his team went into the bathroom and used
- 44:42Speaker 1: bluminol to figure out where blood had been, and they
- 44:47Speaker 1: found evidence of blood on the ceiling and opposite walls
- 44:51Speaker 1: from the bathtub. So it's just interesting that, you know,
- 44:56Speaker 1: you wouldn't expect to see blood that high up or
- 45:01Speaker 1: on the opposite wall if Christian had shot himself if he.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Was leaning over the tub or I mean, I guess
- 45:07Speaker 2: they don't know. Well, I guess they could tell if
- 45:09Speaker 2: he fell into that position or if he was in
- 45:12Speaker 2: that position when he supposedly shot hisself.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Yep. There was also blood evidence found around a bullet
- 45:18Speaker 1: hole that was next to the light switch, but that
- 45:22Speaker 1: direction was inconsistent with where Christian's body would have been
- 45:25Speaker 1: if he had shot himself and fell to where he
- 45:29Speaker 1: was found. And also it should be noted that the
- 45:33Speaker 1: bullet there was a bullet hole in there in the wall,
- 45:37Speaker 1: but the bullet was in the bathtub. So it's unclear
- 45:41Speaker 1: what exactly happened because you'd think maybe it went through
- 45:44Speaker 1: his head then into the wall and stuck in the wall.
- 45:47Speaker 1: I don't know if it would fall back out into
- 45:50Speaker 1: the bathtub, but that wouldn't make sense if he was
- 45:54Speaker 1: shot himself over the bathtub.
- 45:56Speaker 3: So the bullet, the bullet that he shot hisself with,
- 46:01Speaker 3: was found inside the tub, so it transferred all the
- 46:04Speaker 3: way through. But then there was a bullethole also by
- 46:08Speaker 3: the light switch.
- 46:10Speaker 2: Yes, okay, yeah, no, So just it just was not
- 46:14Speaker 2: a super consistent scene with a suicide because even if
- 46:20Speaker 2: it ricocheted like you said, it most likely would have
- 46:22Speaker 2: embedded into the wall. M instead of bouncing and landing
- 46:27Speaker 2: it back in the tub. Makes no sense.
- 46:29Speaker 1: The gun was also decocked, which I did not know
- 46:32Speaker 1: what this meant, but that is not usual. It like
- 46:37Speaker 1: means the lever was let down. And if it had
- 46:40Speaker 1: just been pulled like Christian's gun, or the gun would
- 46:45Speaker 1: not have been decocked. It had to be manually decocked.
- 46:48Speaker 1: And he like it would have they said, it would
- 46:52Speaker 1: have expected to be found hammer cocked or pulled up,
- 46:55Speaker 1: but it was found decocked or like released right, And Michael,
- 47:00Speaker 1: this investigator did indicate that this was bizarre. Yeah, that
- 47:05Speaker 1: is so from his investigation. Michael's opinion on Christian's death
- 47:12Speaker 1: and the evidence that he saw was that it was
- 47:16Speaker 1: not a suicide. And of course this is like the
- 47:19Speaker 1: thing that I was like, holy shit when I read
- 47:22Speaker 1: about this, and I don't know why I didn't think
- 47:24Speaker 1: about it earlier. But we wouldn't be talking about forensics
- 47:28Speaker 1: and all of that if we weren't, if we didn't
- 47:31Speaker 1: talk about rigor and liver mortis. If you don't know
- 47:36Speaker 1: what rigor mortis is, after somebody dies, their joints will
- 47:40Speaker 1: stiffen up into like the position they're in, and that
- 47:43Speaker 1: usually happens four hours after death. Liver mortis is when
- 47:48Speaker 1: blood basically pools on a spot that is touching the
- 47:51Speaker 1: ground after death or touching a surface after death. So
- 47:55Speaker 1: this happens, you know, a body has to be in
- 47:58Speaker 1: a certain position for at least a few hours for
- 48:01Speaker 1: liver mortis to set in for the blood to pool.
- 48:05Speaker 1: In Christian's case, there was liver mortis on the back
- 48:08Speaker 1: of his calf, which was found at the scene facing up,
- 48:14Speaker 1: so that would not be consistent with liver mortis because
- 48:18Speaker 1: his calf would have had to be touching the ground
- 48:21Speaker 1: or another surface for at least a few hours. This
- 48:24Speaker 1: also means that Christian's death was likely way earlier than
- 48:29Speaker 1: originally thought, and way earlier than when the nine one
- 48:32Speaker 1: one call was made. So originally the corner ruled his
- 48:37Speaker 1: death to be around three thirty PM. And I don't
- 48:41Speaker 1: think that this was like a full on autopsy, so
- 48:45Speaker 1: you know, he didn't the corner didn't like full on
- 48:49Speaker 1: actually figure out his time of death. It was just
- 48:51Speaker 1: like from what he could see, he estimated three thirty.
- 48:55Speaker 3: I wonder how he gathered that though you know, yeah,
- 48:58Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 49:00Speaker 1: So the rigger and liver mortis both take time to
- 49:04Speaker 1: set in. So the fact that Christian's body had both
- 49:10Speaker 1: indicates that there had at least been a couple of
- 49:13Speaker 1: hours from his death to when he was you know,
- 49:17Speaker 1: looked at by police, and he.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Was indoors, so it wouldn't have like been you know,
- 49:22Speaker 2: the elements causing it to speed.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Up, right. And again, police arrived at five pm, So
- 49:29Speaker 1: that's like when you know things for sure we know
- 49:32Speaker 1: started happening because they arrived at five pm. Right on
- 49:35Speaker 1: top of this, there was also a resident of the
- 49:38Speaker 1: apartment that hurd a gun shot around twelve thirty that day,
- 49:42Speaker 1: and she remembers hearing the gunshot around the time. That
- 49:46Speaker 1: she remembers because her son was like awake from a
- 49:49Speaker 1: nap and when she heard it, she like pulled him
- 49:52Speaker 1: away from the window. So she's not one hundred percent
- 49:55Speaker 1: sure of the exact time, but she knows that it
- 49:58Speaker 1: was much earlier than four or you know, three four
- 50:01Speaker 1: pm when according to Dylan and Whitley, that's when it happened.
- 50:06Speaker 1: And a maintenance worker who this resident had told the
- 50:10Speaker 1: gunshot about, had later told her, oh, there there was
- 50:14Speaker 1: a suicide that day, so they were they kind of
- 50:17Speaker 1: were like she was like, Okay, that definitely was a gunshot.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Then that wasn't just like a sound or something. So
- 50:25Speaker 1: with these two puzzle pieces, the culpable team and like investigator,
- 50:29Speaker 1: you know, everybody kind of putting these pieces together, not
- 50:32Speaker 1: the police. They determined that his death was likely sometime
- 50:38Speaker 1: between twelve and two PM on February twenty sixth, which
- 50:42Speaker 1: is well before the three thirty time thought beforehand.
- 50:45Speaker 3: And well before they got Chick fil.
- 50:47Speaker 1: A exactly it could have been after it could have
- 50:51Speaker 1: been around two, but true, not one hundred percent. So
- 50:56Speaker 1: so with this, many people, including the Andreachio family, began
- 51:00Speaker 1: to think that one or even two people were involved
- 51:04Speaker 1: in his death. They did believe that Whitley and Dylan
- 51:08Speaker 1: were there and somehow involved, but they don't think that
- 51:11Speaker 1: the two of them would have been able to like
- 51:13Speaker 1: fully overpower Christian enough to like kill him and make
- 51:18Speaker 1: his death look like a suicide. So we're now going
- 51:21Speaker 1: to talk about two persons of interest in this case
- 51:26Speaker 1: and the accounts of why they're persons of interest. We
- 51:31Speaker 1: don't know their names or the witness names, and I'm
- 51:35Speaker 1: going to say now that no one has ever been
- 51:37Speaker 1: identified as a suspect, no one has ever been charged,
- 51:40Speaker 1: And all of what I'm saying in this case is
- 51:42Speaker 1: alleged and is like my opinion or the facts of
- 51:46Speaker 1: what has been reported from the family. And it also
- 51:50Speaker 1: all comes from the Culpable podcast again that this really
- 51:53Speaker 1: came from, like their investigation into what happened. So the
- 51:58Speaker 1: first witness was a friend of Red Christian's mom. So
- 52:01Speaker 1: Ray was worried that something was going on with Christian
- 52:03Speaker 1: and Whitley, and she had asked her friend to just
- 52:06Speaker 1: keep an eye on his apartment because the friend lived
- 52:08Speaker 1: a lot closer to the apartment than she did, and
- 52:12Speaker 1: specifically she asked the friend to keep an eye on
- 52:15Speaker 1: Whitley while Christian was away on his hitch, just make
- 52:18Speaker 1: sure that she wasn't doing anything shady at apartment, that
- 52:21Speaker 1: kind of stuff, right, So the friend would swing by,
- 52:24Speaker 1: I don't know if it was every single day, but
- 52:26Speaker 1: you know, she would just keep an eye on it.
- 52:27Speaker 1: And the day Christian died, Ray's friend had swung by
- 52:31Speaker 1: the apartment to just you know, check up, and around
- 52:34Speaker 1: one thirty pm, she was driving by after she took
- 52:38Speaker 1: her lunch break from break from work, and she saw
- 52:42Speaker 1: two men exit the apartment build building and enter a
- 52:46Speaker 1: black pickup truck, and at first she didn't think anything
- 52:49Speaker 1: of it, and she actually assumed that one of them
- 52:51Speaker 1: was Dylan because she knew that like Dylan was friends
- 52:54Speaker 1: with Whitley, so maybe he was there. But after Christian's death,
- 52:59Speaker 1: Ray was in her office and had the Facebook profile
- 53:02Speaker 1: of a man that she was suspicious of. She had
- 53:07Speaker 1: that profile pulled up on her computer and this friend
- 53:10Speaker 1: walked in and saw it on the screen and immediately
- 53:15Speaker 1: was like, that's the man I saw. And she at
- 53:18Speaker 1: first was like, is that Dylan, And Ray said no,
- 53:22Speaker 1: it's not. So again, we don't know his name, but
- 53:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna call him truck Guy just to make things
- 53:27Speaker 1: like less confusing. Okay, so this man truck Guy. Ray's
- 53:32Speaker 1: friend was like, Yep, that is the guy that I
- 53:35Speaker 1: saw outside of the apartment and this is somebody that
- 53:38Speaker 1: Ray had already kind of been suspicious of. But this
- 53:42Speaker 1: gets even crazier because a second account that this same
- 53:47Speaker 1: man was involved in Christian's death came up. So this
- 53:51Speaker 1: comes from a witness who worked on a boat that
- 53:54Speaker 1: was owned by the same company that Christian worked for,
- 53:57Speaker 1: called Magnolia Marine. So like this man, you know, didn't
- 54:01Speaker 1: work directly with Christian, but worked for the same company,
- 54:04Speaker 1: so they all kind of knew each other. And I'm
- 54:06Speaker 1: gonna call this guy boat Guy just like not boy,
- 54:11Speaker 1: I know, I'm real creative. So boat Guy had early
- 54:16Speaker 1: on told the Andreacchios that he believed that Christian's car
- 54:20Speaker 1: had been moved in the Magnolia Marine parking lot, which,
- 54:23Speaker 1: as I mentioned earlier, Cheryl or boat Mama, had said
- 54:26Speaker 1: the same thing. So he told the family this, but
- 54:29Speaker 1: nothing really came of it. I mean, they couldn't really
- 54:31Speaker 1: do much because pies weren't doing much. Yeah, And he
- 54:37Speaker 1: later brought this up to the Andreacchio's attorney, Cynthia, and
- 54:41Speaker 1: when he reported this to her, Boat Guy also told
- 54:45Speaker 1: her that he had had a conversation with another man,
- 54:49Speaker 1: Hayes Mitchell, who also worked for this same company, and
- 54:52Speaker 1: in his interview on Culpebel, Boat Guy tells about how
- 54:56Speaker 1: one day Hayes showed up to work under the influence
- 54:59Speaker 1: of drugs and was talking about Christian being murdered, and
- 55:04Speaker 1: Hayes said to him quote it wasn't supposed to happen
- 55:07Speaker 1: that way, And as he was talking, he eventually mentioned
- 55:12Speaker 1: truck guy, and so boat Guy was now telling Cynthia, Hey,
- 55:19Speaker 1: this other guy Hayes was talking about something bad happening
- 55:24Speaker 1: to Christian, how it wasn't supposed to happen, and mentioned
- 55:27Speaker 1: truck guy. According to boat Guy, Hayes told him that
- 55:31Speaker 1: truck guy and then some other guy that we don't
- 55:33Speaker 1: know were there the day that Christian was murdered, and
- 55:36Speaker 1: again that quote it wasn't supposed to go down like that.
- 55:40Speaker 1: But then at that point Hayes figured out that boat
- 55:42Speaker 1: Guy knew Christian and like stopped talking to him about
- 55:46Speaker 1: it and wouldn't bring it up again. Wow. So it's
- 55:49Speaker 1: unclear what is true of all this. Hayes was, you know,
- 55:53Speaker 1: on drugs, so you can't believe everything he says. But
- 55:56Speaker 1: at the same time, why else would he be saying
- 55:59Speaker 1: that that's not Yeah, it's not something that you just
- 56:03Speaker 1: make up or like are hallucinating about. If nothing like
- 56:07Speaker 1: that happened.
- 56:07Speaker 3: He may have twisted the details around, but there's some
- 56:10Speaker 3: truth in that story, I think.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Yeah. So sadly Hayes ended up overdosing a few years later,
- 56:17Speaker 1: so we'll never know what exactly he knew. But one
- 56:21Speaker 1: other super interesting fact about Hayes his dad Bilbo. Bilbo's
- 56:27Speaker 1: name is Bilbo. His dad, Bilbo was the district attorney
- 56:32Speaker 1: at the time of Christian's death. So I'm not going
- 56:36Speaker 1: to say anything more about that, but take it as
- 56:39Speaker 1: you will that it's interesting. So Ray took this information
- 56:45Speaker 1: that boat guy had told the attorney Cynthia, and that
- 56:51Speaker 1: her friend had told her. She took this to the police,
- 56:55Speaker 1: but they never went anywhere with it, and specifically didn't
- 56:59Speaker 1: do anything with it befo Hayes passed away, so they
- 57:02Speaker 1: could never interview him or figure out exactly what he
- 57:04Speaker 1: was talking about. Ray at one point thought that it
- 57:07Speaker 1: was maybe possible that these men had thought that Christian
- 57:11Speaker 1: had money and were trying to rob him and it
- 57:14Speaker 1: went wrong, you know, like that maybe Christian had fought
- 57:17Speaker 1: back when trying to be robbed and that led to
- 57:19Speaker 1: his death. And that's what Hayes meant when he said
- 57:23Speaker 1: it went wrong. But that was just raised speculation at
- 57:25Speaker 1: the time, and this didn't really go anywhere, And honestly,
- 57:28Speaker 1: I don't think that like that's what happened, because it
- 57:31Speaker 1: would have been hard to like, if it was a
- 57:33Speaker 1: robbery and then he accidentally died from a robbery, you
- 57:37Speaker 1: wouldn't really be able to make it look like a suicide.
- 57:39Speaker 2: So and that would be a huge coincidence if because
- 57:42Speaker 2: he wasn't even supposed to be there that day, if
- 57:44Speaker 2: he was there just so happened to be there the
- 57:47Speaker 2: day that they were going to rob exactly like his
- 57:50Speaker 2: house or whatever.
- 57:51Speaker 1: So at this point, everybody's kind of at a standstill.
- 57:56Speaker 3: Guess who's back.
- 57:58Speaker 1: The neat your best friend? You should name him?
- 58:03Speaker 3: I name him a pain in my ass.
- 58:08Speaker 1: Anyway, at this point, there was just nothing moving forward.
- 58:13Speaker 1: You know, police were done with this and the pi's
- 58:16Speaker 1: it just wasn't really moving forward. So this is where
- 58:18Speaker 1: Dennis Cooper, his podcast and his entire team really came
- 58:23Speaker 1: into play. And before I go any further, I'm basically
- 58:26Speaker 1: gonna like recap what happened in the in the investigation
- 58:30Speaker 1: that was like initially started by the Culpobole team. And
- 58:34Speaker 1: it's like kind of crazy that a podcast is how
- 58:38Speaker 1: more this investigation happened. But at the same time, we've
- 58:40Speaker 1: seen podcasts and social media influence lead to arrest like
- 58:45Speaker 1: in the Tara Grinstead case from the up and Vanished
- 58:48Speaker 1: podcast and Alyss Attorney's case through her sister, Sarah Attorney.
- 58:53Speaker 1: So again I'd highly recommend you listen to Culpable to
- 58:57Speaker 1: kind of follow along on the investigation. But I'm gonna
- 59:00Speaker 1: do my best to recap what was going on and
- 59:03Speaker 1: the investigation that came from this podcast. So in twenty eighteen,
- 59:08Speaker 1: Dennis knew a woman named Shila Wisaki and she just
- 59:14Speaker 1: knew him from like or knew her from. He knew
- 59:17Speaker 1: her from other places, and so Dennis contacted Sheila and
- 59:22Speaker 1: was like, hey, you know, we're looking into this. She
- 59:25Speaker 1: was a PI and she ended up connecting with Ray
- 59:30Speaker 1: and at the time, she couldn't take on Race, you know,
- 59:33Speaker 1: or Christian's case because she just had a lot going on.
- 59:36Speaker 1: But she did offer some advice to Ray, and that
- 59:39Speaker 1: was kind of where it went. Then one day Sheila
- 59:42Speaker 1: called Dennis and said, hey, I'm taking on the case.
- 59:45Speaker 1: She finished up her other projects and she was like, okay,
- 59:48Speaker 1: I am all in, and she went all in. She
- 59:51Speaker 1: assembled a team of like eight private investigators and they
- 59:56Speaker 1: set up an entire plan. They were like really going
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: full on investigating this so they wanted to meet with
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: all of the important people in this case, including Dylan, Whitley,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: Jet and Matt. So their first step was finding Whitley.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Whitley was living down in Key West, Florida, so two
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: of the pi's Michael Kenny and Jay Marin, along with
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: one of Jay's investigators, Claudia, and then Dennis and one
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: of his producers, Jacob, they all headed down to Florida
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: to find Whitley. They eventually located Whitley and approached her
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: outside of a tanning salon, telling her that they were
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: working on a production and wanted to talk to her,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: and she was like, what is this about? And they
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: told her it has something to do with something that
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: was on Crime Watch. So after they said that, she
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: was like, okay, I don't want to talk to you,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: and she went to her car, but then they saw
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: her putting on makeup in her car and then she
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: came back out and started talking to them, so like,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: you know, really, girl, So they explained to Whitley that
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: they weren't the police and that they were production company
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: and they wanted to get her side of the story,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: and she agreed and said that she could talk to
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: them after her work shift that night and gave them
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: her number and everything and they set it up. But
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: when the team visited her work that night, she wasn't there,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and a coworker told them that she had called out
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: of her shift. They then realized that she had deleted
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: all of her social media accounts and she didn't respond
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: back to them or show up for their meeting, which like, Okay,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: it's very sketchy. If you really had nothing to do
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: with it, that's very sketchy. But also Whitley was like,
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: you know, she wasn't she was still kind of living
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: like bouncing between places, and she just didn't It doesn't
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: seem like she fully had her life together, so maybe
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: she just didn't want this coming back up.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, I could see it from both sides,
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: like if you if you didn't have anything to do
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: with it, like you've moved on, like you're exhausted from
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: dealing with it, not wanting to talk. But at the
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: same time, if she went to go put on freaking makeup,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: he would think that she would want like the attention
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: or something from it. So yeah, I don't know, it's very.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely weird. Yeah, but the trip to Florida wasn't
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: a total bust. The team was able to meet with Whitley,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: one of Whitley's former landlords and a coworker of hers, Sam,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: and they then met with Sam's boyfriend, Doug, who also
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: lived in the house with Whitley, and he recounted some
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: of the encounters with Whitley, including her being violent towards
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: him not paying her rent, and being just very emotional
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: and manipulative. So through these conversations they were also able
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: to get some information about Whitley's friend Jordan, who was
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: friends with Whitley back when Christian died and was now
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: also living down in Key West, Florida. The PI team
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: really really wanted to talk to Jordan because she had
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: been interviewed back in twenty sixteen when the NBI was
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: conducting their investigation. In that interview, Jordan kind of revealed
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: some crazy shit and again, this is just what she
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: is saying, but let's go through it. So Jordan said
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: in this interview that Whitley was using Christian, that she
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: believed Whitley was using Christian for the money and living
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: he was providing her, and that after Christian and Whitley
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: moved in Whitley started cheating on Christian with Jordan's ex boyfriend, Oh,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Matt Miller.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: Matt Miller, hmm, okay, so.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: And then the interviewer asked her why she was cheating
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: on Why Jordan thought Whitley was cheating on Christian, and
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Jordan said, quote, because it's Whitley Goodman, So you know,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: just kind of speaks to her character.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: She has a reputation for herself, I guess.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Yeah. Jordan also said that Christian was trying to catch
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: her cheating and that he had a lot of trust
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: issues with Whitley. Jordan said that Whitley and Dylan were
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: kind of getting involved in like some shady stuff to
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: make some more money, and Jordan said, quote, if Christian
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: knew that Whitley wanted a part of that, he would
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: have been done with her and she would have lost
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: all of her luxuries. So that just kind of like
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: indicates that Whitley was really getting a lot out of
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: the relationship with Christian and maybe had a reason to
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: not want to break it off.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Jordan recounts things that Whitley had told her and even
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: admitted that she was really only friends with Whitley to
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: get information out of her Jordan believes that Christian did
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: not commit suicide, and she said that Whitley told her
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: after Christian's death quote, I didn't mean to do it. It
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: was a freak accident. I had to tell someone because
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: it's eating me alive. Again. This is just Jordan's account
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: her haven't heard anybody before, but it's just interesting. Jordan
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: also believes that Matt Miller knew something about what happens.
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: What happened, not what happens. So that's what Jordan said
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: back in twenty sixteen. So the PI team obviously wanted
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: to to interview her. They were able to locate her.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: They found her working at a local strip club and
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: interviewed her that night off the record, but nothing really
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: came from it besides what she had said in her
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: twenty sixteen statement. But she did say that her and
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Whitley weren't friends at the moment, and it was weird
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: because Whitley had texted her that day about the Pis
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: being in town, so they hadn't really been talking, but
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: Whitley texted her, Hey, these Pis are in town, asking
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: about this, so it was kind of weird, but nothing
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: really came from that. Unfortunately, like despite how crazy that
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: interview was. So after this trip to Florida, the team
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: headed up to Meridian in Mississippi, and they split up
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: to talk to everyone in town at once because they
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: didn't want to like speak to one person and then
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: that person tells somebody else that people are talking and that,
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: so they split up and they wanted to talk to everybody.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: They spoke with Jet, who again maintained his story that
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Whitley had shot a gun the night before Christian's death.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: And one interesting thing that came from their conversation with
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: Jet was that he knew the entry spot of the
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: bullet on Christian's head, and he claimed that he heard
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: it when the story aired on Crime Watch Daily. But
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: they went back and listened to the crime or watched
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: the Crime Watch Daily episode and they never specifically detailed
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: the bullet entry location, so it was kind of suspicious,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: but they couldn't really take anything from that. So when
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: they were trying to get Dylan to speak to him,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: he was avoiding them at all costs. They knew he
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: was home and he refused to open the door, and
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: then his girlfriend would also like be like, what the
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: heck are you guys? Doing stay away from us, so
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: they were never able to talk to Dylan and nothing,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: you know, or get any information about him. While they
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: were in Meridian, they also met up with Josh, Christian's brother,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: and they went to the former apartment where Christian had
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: been killed. Dennis reported how shot they all were, with
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: how small the apartment was, and while they were there,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: they even did a sound test see how possible it
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: would have been for Whitley to not hear the gunshot,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: and they shared that sound of the recording on the podcast,
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: and it seems very unlikely that she would not have
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: heard it.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Yeah, well she was also like zandied out too, so maybe,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: but I still feel like you would have heard something
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: even if you didn't necessarily wake up and like get
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: up to investigate, like it would.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: Have roused you a little bit, you know, right, And you.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: Know, I'll talk about this a little more later on.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: But she also so. Dylan claims that he woke her
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: up by screaming from upstairs Christian's dead, and Whitley claims
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: that or at first claimed that she was just like
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: woken up by Dylan being like, hey, wake up, So
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: how would you not hear a gunshot? But you'd be
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: waking up by either one of those. Yeah. The last
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: thing they did while in Marian was talked to a
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: former friend of Christian, Travis. Travis was in jail at
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: the time for violating probation on a prior charge, and
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: the team was able to interview him in jail. He
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: was friends with Hayes Mitchell, who if you remember, was
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: the guy who told a coworker that things went wrong
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: that night, and Travis did reveal that he one time
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: had gotten pulled over when Hayes was driving and Hayes
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: was drunk, and Hayes was basically able to call up
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: his dad, the district district attorney, and get out of it.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: So just like indicating that you know, it's there's definitely something.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: Going on there, dreams can be pulled.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: In May twenty nineteen, the PI team was able to
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: track down Matt Miller, who moved to Connecticut, and they
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: went and talked to him. They aired the interview on
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Culpable and I'm going to recap it as a little reminder,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: this is the guy that Whitley had been hanging out with,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: and this was the guy that Christian had found out
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: about and was upset about the reason that he came
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: back early. Matt is also the one that claimed that
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: Whitley did not shoot a gun the night before Christian's death. So,
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: according to Whitley, she was with Matt the night before
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: Christian's death but didn't remember a lot because she had
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: taken xanax. And according to Matt, she was there and
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: she didn't shoot a gun, and he remembers that because
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: he said that she was very afraid of the guns
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: and was sitting in his lap while he covered her ears.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: So he seems to remember that very specifically, which would.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Align with what Christian's mom said that she didn't think
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: that she was the type to actually shoot the gun.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: So during this twenty nineteen interview, Matt learned for the
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: first time, or at least claimed that he learned for
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: the first time, that Whitley had tested positive for gunpowder
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: res do on her hands. And he claimed to have
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: not known that before twenty nineteen, And you know, I
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: kind of do believe him, because he really wasn't involved
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: in the investigations a ton, right. He also revealed something
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: that we had not known before. At one point, he
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: was actually arrested as a suspect for murder. When he
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: was arrested, he took a polygraph test and it later
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: came back as he was not lying. He had nothing
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: to do with Christian's death according to the polygraph test.
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: So oh, that's interesting that they did that with him
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: and not of other people.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: I know. Matt talked about how around one thirty or
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: two pm on February twenty sixth he came home from
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: work and fell asleep, and during the time he was asleep,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: he received six calls from Christian's phone, and like we
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: talked about, he believes that it was Whitley trying to
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: get a hold of him to come over to the apartment.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: And with this, he does not believe that Christian committed suicide.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: So just another person saying I don't think it was suicide.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, And this is someone who has absolutely nothing to
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: gain by saying that, you know, whereas like close family
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: and friends, like of course they don't want to admit
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: something like that. But that's pretty telling, I think.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Right, and with him being like almost a suspect at
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: one point, like it'd be better for him, right it
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: was a suicide because he couldn't be involved. So the
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: last major thing that happened with the PI team was
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: they got in contact with Captain j Arrington, who was
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: a detective at the Meridian Police Department and he had
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: worked there for thirty years and he had done a
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: lot of work on Christian's case. So Sheila and another
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: one of the pi's Mark, got to actually go meet
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: with him in person to talk to him about his
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: views on the case. And during this meeting, Arrington was
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: wearing a body cam. I'm not sure exactly why, just
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: because he's a police officer and he's wearing bodycam, I
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: don't know. But the audio from that meeting got leaked
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: online and this is where things get kind of interesting,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: and yeah, you'll see, Okay. Errington in this meeting agreed
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: that the bullet hole in the wall and Christian's position
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: when he was found did not indicate a suicide. In
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: this leaked audio, we hear Arrington say that he thought
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: the scene was altered at some point, saying, quote, I
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: think once he was shot in the head, he was
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: pulled over into the tub and the scene where he
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: was originally shot at was cleaned up. Then Arrington referenced
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: who he thinks is responsible for Christian's death, saying, quote,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: I think perhaps somebody took the wallet out of his pocket,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: and that same somebody went down to the credit union
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: trying to use his bank card to get his money
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: out of the bank, aka Dylan. So this is just Arrington's, like,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: you know, his own opinion, but he basically thinks that
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: Dylan was somehow involved in Christian's death, or at least
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Christian had died before Dylan went and used the bank card. Right,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: So now we're gonna I'm gonna explain what Arrington thought
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: happened that day. He thought that Christian was holding the
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: gun to his head and Dylan and or Whitley were
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: trying to take it from him, as Dylan had done
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: earlier that day, but it accidentally went off. Arrington did
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: want to charge Dylan with manslaughter by culpable negligence, which
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: basically means that like, you didn't kill them, but you
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: didn't stop it.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: You didn't fess up to something bad happening. Yeah, right.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: He said that because Dylan gave him the gun back
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: knowing that Christian's mental estate was not great, and how
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: he had earlier held the gun to his head threatening
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: to shoot himself. That could indicate manslaughter by culpable negligence.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: So he does not think that it was premeditated at all.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: He doesn't think that anybody planned it, but he does
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: think that an accident happened and nobody has said what
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: actually happened. He also thinks that there's no way Whitley
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: would have slept through a gunshot, especially because she later
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: woke up so quote unquote easily. So would she really
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: have slept through a gunshot? But to play Devil's advocate,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: I have really random like sleep cycles, and sometimes I
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: will sleep through everything and sometimes I will sleep through nothing.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: So you know, I don't know, but I don't believe
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: that she slept through it.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: Errington also does believe from all of the evidence that
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: we talked about earlier, that Christian died a lot earlier
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: than three point thirty. When you know, Dylan and Whitley
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: said that he or would have indicated that he died
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: based on when they discovered him, right, this would be
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: more consistent with what we saw from the liver mortis
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: and the rigor mortis that we discussed. But unfortunately Errington
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: never got to appear in front of a grand jury
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: to talk about this. Theory because the DA at the time,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Bilbo Mitchell or Hayes fo did not allow him to
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: present his case to the jury. Instead, Bilbo passed it
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: off to the Attorney General's Office, who brought it to
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: the grand jury, and the result from that grand jury
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: was ruled a suicide, which.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: Leads me to believe that Hayes had something to do
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: with it and his dad was covering his ass for him.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: And I also do not, like, I just can't wrap
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: my mind around it being an accident, because if it was,
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: that would be an even better story for them to
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: cover what happened. Yeah, you know, because they could have
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: been like, true, he had the gun to his head,
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: we were trying to get it away and the gun.
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Went off, and then you know it's true. Yeah, oh,
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: it was an accident, that's true.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: I didn't really think about that. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: And why wouldn't they call the police right then? It
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: just that doesn't make sense to me. Yeah, the non
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: no no investigator over here.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Yeah. So I'm going to talk a little bit more
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: about what happened why Arrington didn't get to talk about
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: this in front of the grand jury. But first you
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: have to know that after this meeting that Sheila and
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Mark had with Errington. They were leaving the building and
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: they ran into the current DA, the current police chief
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: and some other people from the Attorney General's Office, and
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: these people were going to have a meeting with Errington.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: And the audio from that meeting was also leaked, So
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: we're gonna go through that now. So in this meeting,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: it was Errington, the DA, Cassie Coleman, the Meridian Police Department,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: current chief Benny Dubo's, two people from the Attorney General,
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: Gypsy Ward and Tony Green, and then the Chief Administrative Officer,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Richie McAllister. So they were all meeting with Jay and
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: that audio from that meeting was leaked. First off, Ward
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: from the Attorney General's Office claimed that they never tested
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: some DNA that was found on the gun, and this
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: was like a big point because everybody was like, there
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: was DNA found, why was it never tested? And Ward
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: claimed that it was because the sample was so small
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: that one test would completely destroy it and use all
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: of it, and they wanted to keep the sample in
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: case something like later came out that they needed to test,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: which is just like, seriously, to me, it sounds like
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: you just don't want to like actually figure out what happened,
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: and you just want to say it's a suicide and
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: that's it, because all you need is one result, you know. Yeah,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: Coleman the current DA. You know, so Bilbo was the
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: DA back when this happened. Now it was Coleman. She
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: admitted during this meeting that the investigation was handled very
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: poorly in the beginning and said, quote, I don't blame
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: them for feeling like this system has failed them. I
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: just think that at some point you have to trust
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: the other that other people have looked into it, which
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: is just so frustrating because like, yes, they trust that
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: other people have looked into it, and a majority of
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: those people, all of the pis that have looked into it,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: have said it was not a suicide. Yea, So they
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: are listening to the people.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: Yeah. And the investigation from the police was not zero.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Yeah. So, as I just mentioned, and Arrington did believe
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: that Dylan should have been charged with culpable or manslaughter
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: by culpable negligence, but the former DA Bilbil Mitchell passed
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: the case off to the Attorney General, and that meant
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: that Arrington could not be you know, present his case
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: in front of the grand jury, and this whole thing
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: was discussed between Coleman and Arrington in the meeting. So
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Coleman asked Ward from the from the Attorney General's office
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: if she felt like Dylan's culpability in the case was
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: fully understood and considered by the grand jury, and Ward said, yes,
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: I do feel like it was fully understood. I feel
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: like the case was presented well, you know, to show
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: them that it could have been manslaughter by culpable negligence.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: They also talked about how they literally showed a video
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: of a suicide with the same weapon to the grand
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: jury to prove that like there wouldn't be any gunsplatter,
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: and that's what really helped the jury move away from
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: the manslaughter charge. But later Josh Christian's brother talked about
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: how like that video you don't it was like very
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: old and blurry, you can't really see a ton and
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: you also don't know the caliber of like bullet that
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: was shot. So even though it was the same gun
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: that Christian used, it could have been different bullets. I
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: guess I don't know exactly how that works with guns,
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: But he basically said, like they shouldn't have from that
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: video concluded that there's no way there would be blood
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: splatter in Christian's death.
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: And didn't they find blood splatter on the ceiling with.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: The private investigator did, right, but they didn't take that
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: into consideration. Nope, And they found that after the grand
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: jury happened, because that was like way early on. Okay.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: So Tony Green from the AG's office said in the
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: meeting that they were willing to turn the case back
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: over to the DA and the police. He said, quote,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: we're not going to answer to the Andreacchios. We're not
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: going to answer to this podcast, this media. We never
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: have so we're not going to start now. This is
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: between us, which like just pisses me off. I just
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: want to be like, seriously.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: They're mad because they're doing a better job than they
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: can do.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. So the conclusion from this meeting was that
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: the DA basically won't look into this again unless there
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: is new evidence or information. She basically said, the Attorney
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: General did a good job showing the grand jury the
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: whole manslaughter by culpable negligence, and they came back with suicide.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: So unless there's new evidence or information that comes out,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: we can't We're not going to do this again. Okay,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: we're almost through everything that happened in this case since
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: Christian died in twenty fourteen. Okay, we're almost there. In
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: July twenty nineteen, the AG Office released Christian's case file
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: to the public. All four thousand pages. Over four thousand
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: pages of the file were released. This included nine to
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: one one calls autopsy photos, all of it. And I'm
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: going to go through a few of the things in
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: the case file, but Denis went through everything in episode
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: fourteen of Culpable, So if you want to hear everything,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: you can go listen to that. A lot of it
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: is stuff that we've already seen and talked about, but
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: there was he kind of walked through the file a
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: little bit more clearly, but I'm not going to do
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: that for this for our episode. When this was initially
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: like released to the public, Ray was very upset that
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: the autopsy photos were released because like, Okay, why does
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: the public need autopsy photos? Like you can request to
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: get a crime case and like have access to it,
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: but the whole public does not need those autopsy photos, like,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: and she was just upset because she was like, that
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: was you know something that disrespectful.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: Yeah, family to Christian.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so she you know, she was very angry, but
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: she harnessed that anger toward continuing the fight for justice
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: for Christian. Now, they did release the nine one one
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: call audio and I did listen to it. It is very,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: very distressing, and so I'm not gonna play it here,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: and I'm gonna caution you if you do go listen
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: to it. I'm gonna recap it for you guys to
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: get some of the major points, but just a warning
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: if you do go listen to it. It is very distressing.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I literally had to like pause it and stop listening,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: you know, halfway through, to just like take a breather
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: because it's just very it's very distressing. So Dylan was
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: the one who called nine one one, and he did
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: sound very upset and distraught, like he definitely sounded like
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: something had just happened. But again, you can sound one way,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: you know, you can make yourself sound ascertain.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: One.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: Yeah, during the call, you can hear Whitley screaming and
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: crying in the background, and the operator had told them
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: to try not to touch anything. Also, at one point,
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: without being prompted, Dylan told the nine one one operator.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: I went to the store and I came back and
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: thought he was taking a shower. So, like, I find
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: that kind of weird that you're like on the phone
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: with nine on one because you just found your friend
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: dead and you're like just came back. Yeah, Like I
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: don't know. They also like immediately said Dylan said, you know,
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: I need to report a suicide. So like immediately they
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: were like, he killed himself on the phone, which like, Okay,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: if you found your friend dead in a closed door bathroom,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: that's probably what you would assume. But you know, it's
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: just it's interesting that that that was what they said. Yeah,
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: So Dylan kept saying that he needed to call Christian's family,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: and so once the nine one one operator had the information,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: she was like, you can hang up and call the
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: family if you need, Like, I have all the information,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: and I believe, in my opinion, that's where the phone
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: calls came from after Dylan found Christian before the police arrived.
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: So Dennis in Coulbobol said that his takeaway from the
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: case file is that the case made to the grand
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: jury was definitely swaying more towards suicide with not a
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: lot of evidence of it actually being a suicide, and
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Josh Christian's brother agreed with that. There were also two
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: jurors who have come out and you know, anonymously, but
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: they described the case as skewed towards suicide, so you know,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: they it definitely seems like it was whatever the ag
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: presented to the grand jury in to show if it
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: was manslaughter or suicide was leaning more towards suicide.
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: And they're not supposed to do that. They're not supposed
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: to skew it one way or the other.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: The guy who at the time Culpobo was being produced
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: was currently running against Coleman for the DA position, said
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: that he believed that the case should be reopened and reinvestigated.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: So I actually didn't look up if this guy one
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: or not. I'm assuming the election's over, so I probably
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: should have looked that up. But you know, Coleman, the
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: current DA was like, it's as where we're at now
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: unless there's new evidence were done, and this guy who
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: was running against her was like, no, I think it
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: should be reopened. Yeah, okay, so we've gone through a
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: lot in this case. This is going to be like
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: an hour and a half episode. I am going to
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: wrap it up by sharing my opinion, and I want
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: to emphasize that this is my opinion. I am not
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: blaming anybody. I'm not saying that anybody was did anything.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: This is just my opinion and what I think happened.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: I think that Christian did not commit suicide, which, like
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: I came to that conclusion very early on. I also
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: believe that he died significantly earlier than when the nine
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: to one one call was made, as proven by the
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: liver and Rigor Mortis and the witness who heard the gunshot.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: And I think that he was moved in some way
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: because of that rigor no liver mortis, I just don't
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: think that you can dispute that.
- 1:25:52Speaker 3: No, not at all.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: I personally am leaning more towards the scenario that possibly
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: Christian was threatening to shoot himself and Dylan and or
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: Whitley attempted to take the gun away, the gun went
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: off and killed Christian. It could have even been that
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: one of them was actually holding it when it went off,
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: So maybe that's why they wanted to cover it up.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: You know, they weren't, they were young, they were scared probably,
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: and you know, you brought up a good point earlier
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: saying like, why wouldn't they just tell that? But if
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: they were that freaked out, you know, in the moment,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: maybe they decided they needed to come up with a
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: story and didn't want to risk them being involved at all.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: I don't know, which like is dumb, but also to us,
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: because we know so much about true crime, we're like, Okay,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: why would you do that? But maybe if somebody doesn't,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: you're like, They're going to immediately think that I killed
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: him and I'm gonna be charged for murder. I don't know,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: right so, I think that some sort of accident happened,
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: but instead of reporting what happened, Whitley and Dylan did
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: some sort of clean up or manipulation of the crime
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: scene to make it look like Christian killed himself alone
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: in the bathroom. I also think that it's possible that
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: they called others in distress to help them figure out
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: what to do, which kind of brings in some of
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: the other people we talked about. But I also am
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: not one hundred percent sure on that they could have
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: just talked to people afterwards as well. I think I
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: find that a little more likely, but I really just
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: can't get past the scientific evidence and then also the
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: inconsistency and their alibis and their stories is just too
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: much for me, and that's what led to my personal conclusion. Yeah,
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: so that's my opinion. And I also want to hear
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: what you guys think happened, because I feel like, like,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: even just talking to you Andrea, you brought up a
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: point I didn't think about. So I really want to
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: like hear what our listeners have to say. So I
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: will be sure to post this podcast or this case
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: on our Facebook group, our Instagram and our YouTube channels
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: so we can discuss. So we have a Facebook group
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: and YouTube channel they're both called Inhuman Podcast, So I'll
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: post there and I would love to hear what your
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: guys thoughts are, if you think it was an accident,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: if you think it was a murder, if you think
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: it was a suicide, whatever you think, And then I'll
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: also post it on Instagram and you can find us
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: there at Inhuman Underscore podcast. So please please please let
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: us know your thoughts because this is one that I'm
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: just like, I'm so curious what others think.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I definitely think that there's more to the story
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: than is given to us, you know, and just the
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: fact that like like that Hayes guy, his dad and
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: I don't know, there's just so many shady areas to
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: the story.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: It just I definitely agree with you. I do not
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: think at all whatsoever that Christian committed suicide at all.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I also want to say my heart
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: and admiration goes out to Ray Andriacchio and the entire
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: Andriachio family, especially for their refusal to give up and
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: to get justice for Christian. I'm sure half the time
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: it would be easier to just drop it and get
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: past it, but they have not given up, and it
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: is incredible how strong they are, and this family really
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: just deserves to know what happened to their son. Yeah. Absolutely,
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: and again for the millionth time, I highly recommend you
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: listen to Culpable because there are a ton more details.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: I want to give them credit for all like doing
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: most of my research, because that's where I got most
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: of my information, and I did do my vest to
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: cover fully and clearly a lot of the details. So
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: I hope you guys found it informational and interesting, but
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: there are a ton more details Inculpable. Also, please share
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: and continue getting more attention to this case. So that
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: the family can get justice. Because the more pressure we
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: put on the police department, the more like out there
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: about this case, the more people talking about it, the
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: better the chances are that something will come up.
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: Feel that heat on them.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, in the words of Ray, we need to
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: stay motivated and invigorated for change. We can make a difference,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: and we can do this for Christian and other victims. Absolutely.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: And that is the mysterious complicated case of Christian Andriachio.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I hope it wasn't too complicated. I'm sorry for how
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: long it was, but that is all I have for
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: you guys today. If you enjoyed, don't forget to share,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: and also subscribe. If you're not already, leave us a rating. Yes,
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: we're almost at our well we're sort of almost getting
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: closer to our goal of fifty by the end of
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: the year. So you're listening, leave us a rating and
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: we will see you next week. I don't know. I
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: think you are too, Andrea, but I am going to
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: cover a solved case because I need a break from
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: like I know, this type of like research. So there
