- 0:00Speaker 1: M hm.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Matt's manager, Carlo Spendoza is here, Mandy, It's great to
- 0:14Speaker 2: see you. I'm actually gonna start with one of your
- 0:16Speaker 2: star players, if I may, Francisco Lindor. I've heard he
- 0:20Speaker 2: is a quick healer, So does that mean chances are
- 0:23Speaker 2: pretty solid that we could see him playing on the
- 0:26Speaker 2: first day of the season.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Good to see you guys, Scottie, Yeah, great bit, Yes, Williandre,
- 0:35Speaker 3: there's still a pretty good chance that we will see
- 0:37Speaker 3: this guy on opening day playing shortstop for us.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Not just because of how quick of a healer he is,
- 0:44Speaker 4: he's just you know, he's He's one of those guys
- 0:47Speaker 4: that he takes pride of posting and being available. We're
- 0:52Speaker 4: not gonna rush them, you know. I think hitting hitting
- 0:56Speaker 4: progression starts today. He's been throwing, he's been doing all
- 1:00Speaker 4: the condition and he started fielding. So uh, I'm still
- 1:04Speaker 4: pretty optimistic that we will have Lindor playing short stuff
- 1:08Speaker 4: for us.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It was his left hand or left hand, ye, So
- 1:10Speaker 1: is there any thought of him just hitting left handed
- 1:13Speaker 1: at the time, Because I mean I had hamdmate right
- 1:16Speaker 1: he couldn't really do much. But since he's a switch hitter,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I know he probably would back away from hitting right handed.
- 1:23Speaker 1: So is there any thought until his right handed swing
- 1:25Speaker 1: got back in that heeled, maybe just have him hit
- 1:28Speaker 1: left handed.
- 1:28Speaker 4: No, no, not really, that wasn't even a conversation. I
- 1:33Speaker 4: think it was just more like once we went in
- 1:37Speaker 4: got the hamm it out, he just he was just
- 1:39Speaker 4: more like getting the stitches out and just the strength part.
- 1:43Speaker 5: So no, that wasn't even in the conversation.
- 1:46Speaker 4: But again, we expect Lindor to be a healthy player
- 1:51Speaker 4: for us come opening.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Day when we're getting later into spring training. We saw it.
- 1:57Speaker 6: We saw it a few years ago with Miguel Vargas.
- 2:00Speaker 6: He wasn't able to swing yet, he was just standing
- 2:03Speaker 6: in the box taking pitches. Is there something that Mets
- 2:06Speaker 6: fans can look at and go, wait a minute, Like,
- 2:08Speaker 6: Francisco is not played in an actual spring training game.
- 2:11Speaker 6: He's only been on the backfield. Maybe this will be
- 2:14Speaker 6: delayed if we look at it later in the spring,
- 2:16Speaker 6: or is there like, do you guys have a plan
- 2:18Speaker 6: once he's at a certain point, he'll be in actual
- 2:20Speaker 6: games or he'll be on the backfield till he's fully
- 2:24Speaker 6: one hundred percent.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Yeah, there's definitely a plan.
- 2:27Speaker 4: We will see him on backfield, hopefully in the next
- 2:30Speaker 4: couple of weeks where it's either tracking or anything like that.
- 2:34Speaker 4: But I wouldn't be surprised if we see Francisco indoor
- 2:39Speaker 4: playing games for US here in spring training before we
- 2:42Speaker 4: break camp.
- 2:43Speaker 5: So again, we're.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Still early, but I think that's the plan that Francisco
- 2:49Speaker 4: is going to be able to play spring training games
- 2:51Speaker 4: for US here.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Hey, can I ask you about Nolan McLain and first off,
- 2:57Speaker 2: how he's feelings. It sounded like that was pretty concerning
- 2:59Speaker 2: when you have vertigo like symptoms and there's just a
- 3:03Speaker 2: lot coming at him right now. He had a great
- 3:06Speaker 2: introduction to the league. You're trying to get him ready,
- 3:08Speaker 2: you know, during his first spring training for a first
- 3:10Speaker 2: full I would say, entering a first full season as
- 3:13Speaker 2: a starter with the ball club in the major leagues
- 3:15Speaker 2: and then oh little WBC on the side, which could
- 3:19Speaker 2: include him pitching in a title game if they get there.
- 3:22Speaker 2: So can you take us through how he's doing and
- 3:24Speaker 2: how you're trying to monitor that with Mark Durosa who
- 3:27Speaker 2: or whoever you talk to on the USA side.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Yeah, he's doing he's doing good.
- 3:34Speaker 4: After that date or you know, day and a half,
- 3:37Speaker 4: that he would experience those vertigo like symptoms. His schedule
- 3:41Speaker 4: to pitch on a back field today. The goal is
- 3:44Speaker 4: to get him his four ops close to sixty pitches,
- 3:48Speaker 4: and he continues to check all the boxes, continues to recover. Well, uh,
- 3:53Speaker 4: you know, he's eating and just getting his way back
- 3:56Speaker 4: because he lost a little bit of weight. Again, it's
- 4:00Speaker 4: been a lot for him since he got to the
- 4:02Speaker 4: league towards ENDO last year.
- 4:04Speaker 5: But if anybody's wire or built to handle something like
- 4:07Speaker 5: this is Nolan McClain.
- 4:10Speaker 4: I know d ro announced yesterday that if the team
- 4:14Speaker 4: USA gets there to the championship game, most likely is
- 4:18Speaker 4: Nolan the guy that is going to get the ball,
- 4:21Speaker 4: and what an honor that is. But again, we've got
- 4:24Speaker 4: to continue to check the boxes. Hopefully that's the case.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I means he's healthy. USA has got to get there
- 4:29Speaker 4: as well. They got a good team by the way.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Yeah right, okay, but yeah, this kid is built for
- 4:36Speaker 4: this moment, moments like this, and uh again, let's take
- 4:40Speaker 4: it one day at a time and we'll see what
- 4:42Speaker 4: happens next.
- 4:44Speaker 6: How nervous are you during the WBC as a manager
- 4:47Speaker 6: with a decent amount of players, How nervous are you.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Honestly, I experienced it the last WBC. I was a
- 4:57Speaker 4: bench coach for Team Venezuela, and uh, it's just fun, man.
- 5:00Speaker 4: It's something that is a great experience. Is something that
- 5:04Speaker 4: if you have the opportunity to put the uniform with
- 5:08Speaker 4: the country on your chest, like, that's something that you
- 5:12Speaker 4: can take away from from players and humans. Right, So again,
- 5:17Speaker 4: we all have that experience. I wasn't here, but the
- 5:20Speaker 4: Edwin did as experienced and everybody. That's the first thing
- 5:22Speaker 4: that comes to mind. But hey man, the intensity is
- 5:24Speaker 4: completely different. But people get her in spring training too,
- 5:28Speaker 4: you know.
- 5:28Speaker 5: So you know, like for.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Me, just go out there, enjoy learn from some of
- 5:33Speaker 4: the best players, uh in the world, and and just
- 5:36Speaker 4: have fun. We'll be we'll be watching, We'll be fingers
- 5:41Speaker 4: crossed here.
- 5:41Speaker 5: But yeah, I think it's just.
- 5:43Speaker 4: An experience that if you've got opportunity to do it,
- 5:45Speaker 4: you got to go and do it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I mean, I love the WBC. I think it's awesome.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I was at the game. I don't want to bring
- 5:50Speaker 1: it up. Venezuela USA. A couple of years ago. Venezuela
- 5:54Speaker 1: didn't go so well. The guy shouldn't have ripped his
- 5:56Speaker 1: shirt off at the one point trade, Turner said, take that,
- 5:58Speaker 1: put your shirt back on. That's fine if it plays
- 6:02Speaker 1: like it played out last time Venezuela USA semi finals.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Who are you rooting for? Oh my gosh, and then
- 6:09Speaker 1: you know you have McLean back on the back of
- 6:11Speaker 1: the USA wins for the finals. So who do you
- 6:13Speaker 1: root for as a manager?
- 6:15Speaker 5: Imagine? I don't know if that's possible because I haven't
- 6:17Speaker 5: been able to.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Do I don't know have the brackets were.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Imagine having a USA Dominican Republic because I got could
- 6:25Speaker 4: potentially be watching Nolan McLain one.
- 6:26Speaker 5: So I don't know who to root for.
- 6:32Speaker 4: I just yea, like everyone comes out healthy and you know,
- 6:35Speaker 4: kind of like that O Tany Trout at that right
- 6:38Speaker 4: teammates at the time, and that's how the last UH
- 6:43Speaker 4: ended last year. Look, man, I'm I'm gonna root for
- 6:46Speaker 4: the players, you know that they stay healthy and for
- 6:49Speaker 4: a really good show and a really good baseball, which
- 6:51Speaker 4: is we already saw it last night with the Dominican
- 6:54Speaker 4: Republic and how intense that is for our Latin country.
- 6:57Speaker 5: So yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll be watch.
- 7:00Speaker 1: But what happens if it comes to that mcclaim slips
- 7:02Speaker 1: and one might I'm not saying hurt him, but like
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, just you know, Soto shuffles on him like it.
- 7:12Speaker 5: And that's part of the competition.
- 7:16Speaker 4: You know, we're talking about elite competitors, right, Nolan mclan,
- 7:20Speaker 4: Juan Soo Uh.
- 7:23Speaker 1: We saw we have to have a team meeting and
- 7:25Speaker 1: when they s back.
- 7:25Speaker 4: We saw flashes of it on a LIVP before we
- 7:28Speaker 4: started playing games where Soda was facing Nolan and he
- 7:30Speaker 4: got you got, uh, pretty intense there as far as
- 7:34Speaker 4: like the competition goes. You know, Nolan's trying to get
- 7:36Speaker 4: him out, SODA's trying to get him as well.
- 7:38Speaker 5: So we'll see what happens there.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Do you think we can take the energy? I don't
- 7:43Speaker 6: know how much of the game yesterday you saw for
- 7:45Speaker 6: people who didn't see it, it was the Dominican versus the
- 7:48Speaker 6: Tigers down in sount to Domingo, the capitol, the largest
- 7:52Speaker 6: stadium from when I played down there winter ball. Do
- 7:54Speaker 6: you think we can replicate that somehow here in the
- 7:58Speaker 6: States here that it's not the playoffs. This was a
- 8:01Speaker 6: scrimmage game and for every one of the DRT bats
- 8:05Speaker 6: except for Austin Wells. The entire stadium was standing no
- 8:09Speaker 6: offense to Austin Wells, but everybody else was like their
- 8:12Speaker 6: guy from down there.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Replicate meaning during the WBC here in the States.
- 8:17Speaker 6: Now, replicate during the regular season that energy that like well, I.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Think the way I see because I lived the cratzy
- 8:25Speaker 4: is whenever you plane, say a playoff series, and you're
- 8:28Speaker 4: in your home ballpark, and he's fifty sixty thousand people
- 8:32Speaker 4: eighty five percent of the fan base, there is your
- 8:36Speaker 4: own crowd right when you're playing WBC. I remember playing
- 8:40Speaker 4: Dominican Venezuelan Dominican. There's fifty thousand people in the stadium,
- 8:43Speaker 4: is you know, fifty to fifty crowd wise, So every
- 8:46Speaker 4: pitch you got someone screaming as loud as they can
- 8:52Speaker 4: for something. So if the pitcher execute the pitch, you
- 8:54Speaker 4: got the Venezuelan crowd going crazy. If you know, the
- 8:57Speaker 4: Dominican gets a hit, you got the of the stadium
- 9:01Speaker 4: going crazy.
- 9:01Speaker 5: So it is always going to be super loud, and.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I don't think you can replicate something like that here
- 9:08Speaker 4: in the States.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Mendy question for you related to this because we're going
- 9:12Speaker 2: to see Soto of course in left fields, and then
- 9:16Speaker 2: we'll see him play that out during the season. You know,
- 9:19Speaker 2: we always think about all of the crazy analytics and
- 9:23Speaker 2: conversations that go on behind the scenes, and you're a
- 9:27Speaker 2: straight up guy, stand up guy. So is David Stearns.
- 9:30Speaker 2: It sounded like it was just a more simple decision
- 9:33Speaker 2: to have a conversation with him and not dig super
- 9:36Speaker 2: deep into every single number. Of course, you guys know
- 9:39Speaker 2: what's going on on the field and what numbers tell you.
- 9:41Speaker 2: But was it really that simple, Like it wasn't this, Hey,
- 9:45Speaker 2: let's sit down and go over all these numbers, because
- 9:47Speaker 2: I think from the outside, a lot of fans nowadays
- 9:50Speaker 2: think that every decision is like Wall Street deciding which
- 9:53Speaker 2: stock they should buy.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Now, it was that he was a simple conversation, you know,
- 10:01Speaker 4: talking to one you want to be playing left field?
- 10:03Speaker 5: W WC. Yes, how do you feel about playing that position?
- 10:07Speaker 5: I feel great? And then as the conversation.
- 10:13Speaker 4: Started flowing, I was like, is that something you will
- 10:15Speaker 4: consider doing for us here with the Mets? And It's like,
- 10:17Speaker 4: I'll do whatever you want or whatever the teams want.
- 10:20Speaker 4: And that's when I took it to David started like,
- 10:22Speaker 4: like I said, an informal conversation, took it to David
- 10:26Speaker 4: and then you know, we're getting back to Jue a
- 10:29Speaker 4: few days later with the decision that we were going
- 10:33Speaker 4: to move forward. So we didn't dig into numbers. We
- 10:37Speaker 4: all know that one playing left field. I think he
- 10:40Speaker 4: had the better years defensively when he was playing that position.
- 10:43Speaker 4: So it's not like we're moving him off right feeling Okay,
- 10:47Speaker 4: now you've got to go learn left field. Not like
- 10:49Speaker 4: he's got plenty of games there and the numbers will
- 10:52Speaker 4: show that too. So yeah, we didn't go into the
- 10:56Speaker 4: analytics and the numbers and all that.
- 10:58Speaker 5: It was just more like in a conversation, he was
- 11:01Speaker 5: on more, team was on board.
- 11:02Speaker 6: Let's go ahead and do it one more WBCQ for
- 11:06Speaker 6: me here, who has the better team, the Dominican or Venezuela.
- 11:14Speaker 1: You better say Venezuela, yea, because you want to go
- 11:16Speaker 1: back home.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, don't lead. Don't lead the witness No.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Look when you are looking at the lineups, they got
- 11:26Speaker 4: superstars one through nine. Venezuela got hit with some of
- 11:30Speaker 4: the injuries. Pablo Lopez unfortunately goes down. Alvarado from the bullpen.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Can go.
- 11:38Speaker 4: So I think from the pitching staff the Dominican I
- 11:41Speaker 4: was watching that game yesterday. Sev starts and then every
- 11:45Speaker 4: every guy that came in after him was throwing a
- 11:47Speaker 4: ninety nine to one hundred. Guys that are used to
- 11:49Speaker 4: pitching on high leverage here in the in the Big League.
- 11:52Speaker 4: So I think there's more depth there on the pitching
- 11:55Speaker 4: staff on the Dominican side, But position player wise, like,
- 11:58Speaker 4: they're both pretty good with good teams.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Yes, the USA. We all know USA is gonna win,
- 12:03Speaker 1: so it doesn't really matter.
- 12:04Speaker 5: I mean, they gotta go out and play.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You got some new guys here, Louis, Louis, Robert the
- 12:12Speaker 1: name one right, Boba Schett, Arcus Simeon. How are the
- 12:16Speaker 1: new guys?
- 12:16Speaker 5: Polanco?
- 12:17Speaker 1: I love him by way. Does he always have a
- 12:18Speaker 1: smile on his face? Yeah, I mean he came up
- 12:21Speaker 1: to me with the biggest smile.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Hi, Bobby, I you know, yeah, I know he's a
- 12:24Speaker 4: great another great guy. They're all doing good. Yeah, I'm
- 12:28Speaker 4: excited about all of them. Robert, we start, he's gonna
- 12:33Speaker 4: start playing on the backfields today. Marcus seeming uh at
- 12:36Speaker 4: total pro. You know, this guy doesn't say much, but
- 12:40Speaker 4: he leads. He leads by Temple, the way they go.
- 12:43Speaker 4: He goes about his business both baseball player, uh, learning
- 12:46Speaker 4: the new position, hard work.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Care obviously he can hit or Hippolanco.
- 12:53Speaker 4: I mentioned Devin William, Luke Weaver, Freddy Peralta man, this
- 12:57Speaker 4: guy is uh is different. You know everywhere he goes here,
- 13:01Speaker 4: when I'm walking around the building, you you know Freddy
- 13:04Speaker 4: is there, whether it's in the weight room, whether it's
- 13:06Speaker 4: in the kitchen, in the locker room.
- 13:08Speaker 5: He's just he has that presence.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Uh.
- 13:11Speaker 4: And he's genuine too. You know, he's got that joy.
- 13:16Speaker 4: He's just been a pleasure to be around him.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Anything he tells about the wist Robert anything he's doing different.
- 13:22Speaker 1: How's bow handling? I mean a lot of questions here.
- 13:25Speaker 1: How's bou doing a third?
- 13:26Speaker 4: Let me tell you Louis Robert man like I don't
- 13:28Speaker 4: know if you've seen him take BP.
- 13:30Speaker 5: This guy is different with the way the ball comes from.
- 13:32Speaker 4: He just stay healthy and that's why he hasn't played
- 13:36Speaker 4: games yet. Today's going to be the first time that
- 13:38Speaker 4: he's on the back field.
- 13:39Speaker 5: We got to make sure this guy stays healthy. Uh.
- 13:42Speaker 5: If we can keep this guy on the field, like man,
- 13:44Speaker 5: he's he's something else.
- 13:46Speaker 4: The ball jumps, he's you know, he's got like forty
- 13:50Speaker 4: live at battery and I think he's leading the league
- 13:53Speaker 4: in homers. Like he's taking I don't know if I
- 13:54Speaker 4: want to celebrate it or not. He's facing our own
- 13:57Speaker 4: guys and he's taking guys deep.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Uh but men, like the tools are pretty impressive.
- 14:03Speaker 4: But with that transition to third base, you know, it's
- 14:06Speaker 4: a short stop that we're asking him.
- 14:08Speaker 5: To uh to move to third uh work ethic. Hence
- 14:15Speaker 5: it's gonna he's going to take some time.
- 14:18Speaker 4: There's so much that we can replicate pre game on
- 14:20Speaker 4: the backfields, like he needs to play games. There's different angles,
- 14:24Speaker 4: there's different reads, different throws.
- 14:27Speaker 5: He's gonna be fine.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I like where he's at as far as learning third
- 14:31Speaker 4: base foreheads, same way first base.
- 14:34Speaker 5: It's not so much ground balls. It's just like the fundamentals.
- 14:38Speaker 4: People think, oh, you can put him at first base
- 14:40Speaker 4: and it's gonna be easy. And there's a lot that
- 14:41Speaker 4: goes into playing the position. You know, the awareness of
- 14:44Speaker 4: where the second basement is. We're seeing it with guys
- 14:47Speaker 4: ball on the four hold. They react, they're so used
- 14:49Speaker 4: to going after that ball. It's like I got to
- 14:51Speaker 4: get back to the base uh pitchers, covering base cuts
- 14:56Speaker 4: and relays. There's so much there that goes into that
- 14:59Speaker 4: again by playing games, and I'm I'm glad that we're
- 15:02Speaker 4: going to be able to put him tomorrow for the
- 15:04Speaker 4: first time they are to play first base. Who else
- 15:07Speaker 4: we got with Robert Polanko, b Schett, Simeon Semen, I mean,
- 15:13Speaker 4: a pro, like I said, total pro Weaver.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Devin Williams. I mean, you got like a whole new team.
- 15:18Speaker 5: That we do. But it's exciting. It's exciting with so
- 15:24Speaker 5: many new faces. Great dudes.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Man, these guys they've been around this league. It's not
- 15:28Speaker 4: like we're meeting for the first time here. And a
- 15:30Speaker 4: lot of them play together, you know, with different teams.
- 15:33Speaker 1: You know, Bowen Simeon played together, Bowen Sieman play.
- 15:35Speaker 4: And then you look at Freddie, Devin Tyrone, Taylor, those
- 15:40Speaker 4: guys got Tobias Myers, they have Brewer magic, they got
- 15:44Speaker 4: you know, you know, you got Clay Holmes and Luke
- 15:47Speaker 4: Weaver from the Yankee Soto with the Yankees. So like
- 15:49Speaker 4: it's not like, oh, we're they're meeting for the first
- 15:51Speaker 4: time here with the Mets, Like they.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Know you guys have like an ex teammate convention, Like
- 15:56Speaker 1: when you have your meeting in the morning, you guys, okay,
- 15:58Speaker 1: all the Yankees go over here, all the Brewers go
- 16:00Speaker 1: over here, all the Blue Jays go over here, and
- 16:02Speaker 1: then afterwards you got all right, we'll take them together.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Maybe we maybe we'll do something like that, you know
- 16:08Speaker 5: that we're doing in the morning.
- 16:10Speaker 1: You could do Manigh and Soto from the padres right.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Well, you can throw Manaye and see me from the
- 16:14Speaker 4: age too, good boy, So.
- 16:18Speaker 5: We can get creative here.
- 16:20Speaker 6: You said, you said in your eyebrows raised when you said,
- 16:23Speaker 6: you said, oh, Bo, he can hit. What does he
- 16:27Speaker 6: add to the lineup that maybe you were missing last year,
- 16:31Speaker 6: especially when you talk about a guy that's able to
- 16:33Speaker 6: drive the ball all the ballpark, able to put together
- 16:35Speaker 6: at bats, able to win a batting title. What does
- 16:38Speaker 6: he add to the lineup that maybe you were missing
- 16:41Speaker 6: last year.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Well, we had some really good hitters last year too,
- 16:44Speaker 4: you know, and obviously they're with different teams. But he's
- 16:47Speaker 4: just a professional at bat that you're gonna get from Bo.
- 16:50Speaker 4: This is a guy that when he's a heading counts,
- 16:53Speaker 4: he's gonna go for him. We'll see that lay kick
- 16:56Speaker 4: and then once he gets to two strikes his pets out.
- 16:59Speaker 4: He uses whole field. You know, this is a guy
- 17:02Speaker 4: that can hit behind runners, with runners in scoring position,
- 17:06Speaker 4: uses a whole field.
- 17:07Speaker 5: He puts the ball in play. I mean there's a
- 17:11Speaker 5: lot to like there.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Like you said, you like I said, you're getting a
- 17:13Speaker 4: professional bat from Bow every time he goes up to
- 17:17Speaker 4: the play.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Well, it's nice for you, by the way. Yeah, Louie
- 17:22Speaker 1: Robert hitting Nate pretty good, pretty good eight hitter.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Yeah. Look, I like the balance. I like the fact
- 17:28Speaker 5: that I could go Rye left.
- 17:30Speaker 4: We got a couple of switch hitters on Polanco and
- 17:32Speaker 4: in Francisco. Uh, the lefties with Toto the righty baby
- 17:37Speaker 4: obviously as a lefty.
- 17:39Speaker 5: But there's a lot of different ways I could go
- 17:41Speaker 5: with the lineup.
- 17:41Speaker 4: But there's versatility, there's balance, there's power, there's contact.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Uh, there's speed. So there's a lot to like about
- 17:48Speaker 5: the lineup. We just got to keep everyone healthy.
- 17:50Speaker 6: All right, I know you got to go, so make
- 17:52Speaker 6: it quick. You're starting rotation. Justin Willard a new pitching coach,
- 17:56Speaker 6: does he have a rope that he's gonna tie you
- 17:59Speaker 6: to the dugout until the sixth inning and just say,
- 18:02Speaker 6: let's let these guys figure it out so that we're
- 18:05Speaker 6: not going out there and we're going to create a
- 18:07Speaker 6: new just a new a new norm here in New
- 18:10Speaker 6: York with our starting pitchers.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that was uh, that was the case
- 18:15Speaker 5: the past couple of years. I mean, the starters they
- 18:17Speaker 5: got to go. You know.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Unfortunately we went to a lug with our rotation. But
- 18:21Speaker 4: I like where everyone is at right now. They're healthy.
- 18:24Speaker 4: When they're healthy, Uh, they can do a lot of
- 18:26Speaker 4: different different things. You know, able to add Freddy uh,
- 18:30Speaker 4: and then you got a full year of Nolan Clay
- 18:33Speaker 4: a second year as a starter. Then you know we
- 18:35Speaker 4: got pet uh and then Manaia and Singer.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Those two guys.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Uh, it wasn't easy for them last year health wise,
- 18:44Speaker 4: but when they're healthy, they can be a difference maker.
- 18:48Speaker 4: So right now everyone is feeling good and we just got.
- 18:51Speaker 5: To keep it that way.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Mendy, you're the man. We appreciate you. We'll talk to
- 18:54Speaker 2: you during the season. Good to see you all right, fellas,
- 18:57Speaker 2: thanks for having me. We're live and at Saint Lucy
- 19:00Speaker 2: with a familiar face. Yes, full menu, Freddie Peralta joining
- 19:05Speaker 2: us right now, looking really good in the Mets threads.
- 19:07Speaker 2: How you doing, Freddy.
- 19:10Speaker 5: I'm doing good about you guys.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Really good, always bringing us a smile. Yeah, so good,
- 19:18Speaker 2: he doesn't, I know, we love it. They needed that,
- 19:20Speaker 2: you know, Freddie went last year when we talked about
- 19:23Speaker 2: the Mets. I don't know if you heard this, but
- 19:24Speaker 2: they needed pitching, right They kind of ran out of
- 19:26Speaker 2: pitching at the end of the year. And then they
- 19:28Speaker 2: actually said their smile meter was a little low, So
- 19:31Speaker 2: that was part of it. There's now a stat for that.
- 19:34Speaker 5: He's me, He's myself, you know how it is.
- 19:37Speaker 1: But by the way, when I walked in there, he
- 19:38Speaker 1: was smiling. He was talking to John Ayman. I'm like,
- 19:40Speaker 1: no one smiles when they talked to John Ayman. He
- 19:42Speaker 1: was smiling the whole time.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Like you know, he say some nice things. He'll take it,
- 19:49Speaker 5: you'll take it. Yeah. So what's this like?
- 19:51Speaker 2: What's this like for you? What is it like compared
- 19:53Speaker 2: to Milwaukee? Are there more media reporters? A lot more
- 19:56Speaker 2: of that going on? What else is different?
- 19:59Speaker 5: They a lot, there's a lot of minier reports.
- 20:01Speaker 7: Yeah, you're right, and but you know, it's been amazing here,
- 20:06Speaker 7: it's been great. Uh, a lot a lot of a
- 20:10Speaker 7: lot of nice seams, a lot of resources, and you know,
- 20:13Speaker 7: it's been amazing.
- 20:15Speaker 8: Uh.
- 20:16Speaker 7: And what I hear is gonna be way better in
- 20:19Speaker 7: New York. So I can wait to see.
- 20:23Speaker 6: What's the one thing you miss already about Milwaukee? What's
- 20:26Speaker 6: the one thing You've been the same spring training for
- 20:28Speaker 6: how many years?
- 20:29Speaker 5: In Maryville? What do you miss about that?
- 20:32Speaker 6: Because I know Saint Lucy is much nicer than Maryville.
- 20:38Speaker 7: No, man, I think the only thing that I can
- 20:41Speaker 7: say talking about, you know, like outside of the field
- 20:46Speaker 7: is you know, in Arizona there's a lot of restaurants
- 20:50Speaker 7: and a lot of places where to go after practice
- 20:54Speaker 7: of games, and but here is a little way way
- 20:58Speaker 7: more quiet around here.
- 21:00Speaker 5: But it is what it is. You know.
- 21:01Speaker 7: I'm that kind of person too that I like to
- 21:03Speaker 7: be spending time with family and and you know, watching
- 21:08Speaker 7: some shows and all that. I've been taking more time
- 21:12Speaker 7: for myself than But you.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Have a Lapliah, Yeah, the beach you can go fishing. Yeah, see,
- 21:20Speaker 1: there's different things here.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Hey, I'm from Florida, so I like Florida. Okay, So
- 21:27Speaker 1: let's let's not down play for fishing.
- 21:29Speaker 5: I think three times already.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Aricean fishing or what did you catch anything? Last time?
- 21:37Speaker 5: It was better. I catched like five fish.
- 21:41Speaker 7: I can name it like no Dorado, no no, no
- 21:45Speaker 7: snapper like little snapper thing and snappers. Yeah, took snappers
- 21:48Speaker 7: and there's the other one, but I can I don't know.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Did you eat them?
- 21:51Speaker 7: Uh no, my cos Yeah, they took it to their
- 21:56Speaker 7: homes and I couldn't make it.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Who has the boat? Do you take a boat?
- 22:00Speaker 5: Yes?
- 22:00Speaker 7: I have the idea, all the applications and all that.
- 22:03Speaker 7: I have the idea it myself. I had no idea
- 22:06Speaker 7: that you need all that to go fishing, and I
- 22:08Speaker 7: did it one so I did everything, I got it done,
- 22:12Speaker 7: and now I take all the stuff.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Is that why you're not playing in the WBC because
- 22:17Speaker 1: you couldn't leave the fishing in Florida even though it's
- 22:19Speaker 1: a venezuela playing in Miami. I think, yeah, so you
- 22:22Speaker 1: could have just gone down the street a little bit like,
- 22:28Speaker 1: oh God, so tell us why. I mean, you explained
- 22:31Speaker 1: it to me obviously earlier, but explaining your explanation makes
- 22:34Speaker 1: total sense as it stinks.
- 22:36Speaker 7: Yeah, I think you know at the end of the day,
- 22:39Speaker 7: come into a new team, a new organization, organization that
- 22:43Speaker 7: put a lot of trust on me and what I
- 22:46Speaker 7: can do.
- 22:47Speaker 5: And you know, I think that that's why I get
- 22:49Speaker 5: here earlier soon.
- 22:50Speaker 7: And then then the poor day, I came earlier because
- 22:55Speaker 7: I feel that I that I had to make new
- 22:58Speaker 7: relationships with with my teammates, know how they like to work,
- 23:03Speaker 7: making sure that they know me as well, and how
- 23:06Speaker 7: I do my routines, my own teens and all that.
- 23:09Speaker 7: And also you know my last year going to the
- 23:12Speaker 7: Free Agency and all that.
- 23:14Speaker 5: You know, I told that for some reason, I get
- 23:17Speaker 5: together with.
- 23:17Speaker 7: My family and people that are that that band supported
- 23:20Speaker 7: me for forever, and that was a lot of decision.
- 23:24Speaker 7: I think that was a smarter decision for me and
- 23:26Speaker 7: for my family, and that's why I choose to not go.
- 23:30Speaker 7: You know, it was hard for me because it's it's nice,
- 23:35Speaker 7: man like to watch and playing and playing for your country,
- 23:39Speaker 7: especially the last night a game against the Tigers.
- 23:42Speaker 5: It was crazy. I watched it from the first things
- 23:45Speaker 5: to the last one. It was amazing watching them playing
- 23:47Speaker 5: and joining there.
- 23:49Speaker 6: What were your feelings when you watched your country, the
- 23:52Speaker 6: Dominican Republic play last night on TV nerve like sad
- 23:56Speaker 6: because the fans were standing up like they would have
- 23:58Speaker 6: stood up your entire while you were pitching.
- 24:02Speaker 7: Man, it was sad. It was sad, like the feeling
- 24:06Speaker 7: that I have in my heart. It was sad because
- 24:08Speaker 7: I wanted to be there, but also like at some
- 24:11Speaker 7: point I kind of forget a little bit about that,
- 24:13Speaker 7: and I was like basically like a fan watching the game,
- 24:19Speaker 7: and I was enjoying all those moments they get crazy
- 24:23Speaker 7: that I see the crowd like getting crazy too. And
- 24:26Speaker 7: it was amazing, amazing to watch him playing. And I'm
- 24:30Speaker 7: gonna watch the other games too, for sure.
- 24:32Speaker 1: A lot of shuffling, a lot of homer, a lot
- 24:35Speaker 1: of that was going crazy.
- 24:37Speaker 7: Like people, the guys they were running like from first
- 24:41Speaker 7: to third, easy tagging from from second to third.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Amazing, man, that's awesome.
- 24:47Speaker 1: We love the u WBC. David Stearns was in Milwaukee
- 24:50Speaker 1: with you. Now he's here when you when he trades
- 24:52Speaker 1: for you. Is your first phone call? David? You know
- 24:55Speaker 1: you know how good I am extent your.
- 24:56Speaker 8: Own I you're going to go in this way. I
- 25:01Speaker 8: have no COVID zone.
- 25:07Speaker 5: The way you asked was it was beeny good, But
- 25:09Speaker 5: I have no.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Hey, you're in New Yordan. You have to comment on everything.
- 25:14Speaker 5: No, no, no, no, no? Sorry?
- 25:20Speaker 1: Wow?
- 25:20Speaker 5: What in English?
- 25:21Speaker 4: Man?
- 25:22Speaker 2: Wow?
- 25:22Speaker 6: All of a sudden, you should have just said no,
- 25:25Speaker 6: no speaking English in that in that sense, that would
- 25:27Speaker 6: be good for you, Freddy.
- 25:29Speaker 5: It wasn't going to be a lie because I'm really talking.
- 25:36Speaker 5: That's good, all right.
- 25:38Speaker 2: So let's finish with this last question for you, Freddie,
- 25:40Speaker 2: because we haven't spoken to you since you actually got traded.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Did you have a feeling that it was going to
- 25:46Speaker 2: be the Mets before you actually got that call? And
- 25:48Speaker 2: were you rooting for it to be the Mets?
- 25:52Speaker 5: Yeah? I did.
- 25:54Speaker 7: I have a feeling, and I and I wanted to
- 25:56Speaker 7: come here. I'm not gonna lie in that.
- 25:59Speaker 1: That's awesome. And then you ended up where you wanted
- 26:01Speaker 1: to be.
- 26:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome. And my family too. We'll all together.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I mean, tickets, you're gonna have to get teach. You're
- 26:09Speaker 1: gonna lose money this ship.
- 26:10Speaker 5: Don't want to even think about it.
- 26:11Speaker 1: You're gonna lose money.
- 26:14Speaker 5: I gotta lose money. I don't know how to say, no, man.
- 26:17Speaker 1: He said no when I asked you the question.
- 26:19Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, why have one d qu Freddie quantus linias,
- 26:26Speaker 7: quantus linus in a pillow this year?
- 26:29Speaker 6: How many lives are you gonna have in your hair?
- 26:31Speaker 6: You got one, you got two?
- 26:32Speaker 1: I got wow.
- 26:38Speaker 5: You know, look at that. I look different with my hair.
- 26:41Speaker 5: Now ask me about my hair.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Short hair, short hair, New York. You can't have long
- 26:46Speaker 1: hair in New York. No.
- 26:48Speaker 7: I I cut my hair after we lost against the Todders.
- 26:53Speaker 7: So the day after we get to me, I went
- 26:56Speaker 7: to Milwaukee. So I get there and I called the barber.
- 26:59Speaker 7: Can you please come.
- 27:02Speaker 9: Looking clean, clean, the new Freddy? So this is New York, Freddie. Well, yeah, yeah,
- 27:06Speaker 9: you look great. You look happy as always. Great to
- 27:10Speaker 9: catch up with you. Will catch you during the season.
- 27:12Speaker 5: Okay, thank you guys. You guys are the best. Thank you,
