Latest / Stugotz and Company / Set 2: Asking Stu The Uncomfortable Questions
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Not something I want to address as the Knicks are
- 0:02Speaker 1: headed into the NBA Finals, a very exciting time for me.
- 0:05Speaker 1: But I guess I need to address this because Chris Cody,
- 0:07Speaker 1: I love him to death, but he decided for once
- 0:09Speaker 1: to bring work home with him.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yes see, he decided to bring his work home with him.
- 0:14Speaker 1: And he came up with a segment that they debuted
- 0:18Speaker 1: on yesterday's show on Lebiitard Show, on my show, the
- 0:21Speaker 1: show that still bears my name, called tough Questions and
- 0:24Speaker 1: is he who is out sick today? And he's a
- 0:28Speaker 1: journalist and he heard this segment and Izzy suddenly started
- 0:32Speaker 1: to feel a little bit better because he wanted to
- 0:35Speaker 1: counter their Q and A. And he has some tough
- 0:37Speaker 1: questions for me. And so we have a news gathering
- 0:40Speaker 1: organization here that we call the Daily Stews, and so
- 0:43Speaker 1: Izzy is going to ask me some questions here in.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Press conference style.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I guess, some follow ups, some hard hitting questions, and
- 0:50Speaker 1: if Taylor and Mikeya have any questions for me, they
- 0:53Speaker 1: could chime in as well. All right, So that's how
- 0:55Speaker 1: we're going to do it. Dan addressed our situation yesterday.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I didn't know he was going to do it on
- 0:59Speaker 1: the air, but he did. So here we are, and I.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Need to count it because that's what you do, radio beefs.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Is this tougher questions?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Then?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Is that what this is? It is? It's annoying, is
- 1:11Speaker 2: what it is. Yes, let's be perfectly clear.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Chris Cody, as he told them the show, got drunk
- 1:17Speaker 3: at bowling and decided to come home and record with
- 1:20Speaker 3: a slight New York accent. Is somebody say himself saying
- 1:23Speaker 3: tough questions?
- 1:24Speaker 2: And that led to this?
- 1:26Speaker 1: My man is a show producer I know is doing.
- 1:30Speaker 1: But I mean, how about you come up with a
- 1:33Speaker 1: think about it Thursday?
- 1:34Speaker 2: How about that? Or a mount rushmore Monday? Give me something,
- 1:36Speaker 2: you know? Jeez?
- 1:38Speaker 3: But let's let me ask you a couple of questions,
- 1:40Speaker 3: all right, because yes, I did hear all of that
- 1:42Speaker 3: after you alerted me that things have been said, and
- 1:47Speaker 3: just a few things for clarification, all right, stup? Yes,
- 1:51Speaker 3: in January when we first started the radio show, you
- 1:55Speaker 3: said you'd be you'd consider going on a few shows
- 1:58Speaker 3: I think sometime in either Tanuary or February on DLS.
- 2:02Speaker 2: What happened there?
- 2:03Speaker 3: Because you obviously didn't show up on any of those shows.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So I thought I was going to do nine shows.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I told the audience I should have updated the audience
- 2:10Speaker 1: my apologies for not doing so.
- 2:12Speaker 2: But it was it.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Came with one condition, and I sent that condition over
- 2:16Speaker 1: to Metal Arc and their answer was no. So, if
- 2:18Speaker 1: you're wondering why I never did those nine shows, it
- 2:21Speaker 1: came attached with one condition for me that Dan said
- 2:25Speaker 1: no to. That's it, and so that's why you haven't
- 2:28Speaker 1: been on since then. That's why I have not been
- 2:31Speaker 1: on since then. They said no to what I asked for.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It's something I think I'm entitled to at the very
- 2:37Speaker 1: least have a conversation about. They were unwilling to do so,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and so therefore I did not go do those shows.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Okay, next one.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Other things that sort of had me scratching my head.
- 2:48Speaker 3: It was said, you still have a job there?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Do you still have a job there?
- 2:52Speaker 1: So, for the first time I could tell you in
- 2:54Speaker 1: twenty plus years, right now was the first time. I
- 2:59Speaker 1: have no contract, no contractual obligations to Dan, to the show,
- 3:05Speaker 1: to Metal Arc, other than I believe I'm still the
- 3:08Speaker 1: second largest shareholder of that company. But I do not
- 3:11Speaker 1: have a contract. I will tell you Izzy that they
- 3:15Speaker 1: offered me a deal, an extension to my current deal,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and I came back with some you know, I countered,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and one of the counters was asking Dan to come
- 3:26Speaker 1: on this show, and they said no. In fact, what
- 3:29Speaker 1: they said to me was this, we need stud to
- 3:32Speaker 1: show up to a couple of shows to show that
- 3:34Speaker 1: he's going to play ball before we agree or discuss
- 3:38Speaker 1: any of this. And I said to them, twenty plus years,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm not just showing up to you know, I'm not
- 3:43Speaker 1: agreeing to show up and do a couple of test
- 3:45Speaker 1: shows because you guys want to see that I'm nice, Like,
- 3:48Speaker 1: get the hell out of here. If I agree to
- 3:50Speaker 1: do the show, I will do the show that Dan
- 3:52Speaker 1: and I have done for the last twenty years, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: I will do it to the best of my abilities,
- 3:56Speaker 1: like we've done for the last twenty years.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I'm not going to mail it in. I yell at Dan.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I want to try to work this stuff out so
- 4:03Speaker 1: me and Dan could get back on the air together,
- 4:05Speaker 1: because I heard what Dan said yesterday, and there's a
- 4:07Speaker 1: part of me that wants that as well. I wanted
- 4:10Speaker 1: for me, I wanted for him, I wanted for the
- 4:12Speaker 1: show and mostly I wanted for the audience. So I
- 4:15Speaker 1: am trying to work these things out, but I countered
- 4:18Speaker 1: they said no to everything that I counted with.
- 4:20Speaker 2: They said I needed to come in do a couple
- 4:22Speaker 2: of test shows.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Absurd And as somebody who is you know, before I
- 4:26Speaker 3: was ever on the show, was obviously an avid listener.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I think everybody knows it's better off if you're part
- 4:32Speaker 3: of the show, so I don't think that's even a question, right.
- 4:35Speaker 3: But one of the things that again was said which
- 4:38Speaker 3: made me have me scratching my head a little harder
- 4:40Speaker 3: was he said, you wanted to do this, meaning you
- 4:45Speaker 3: wanted to peel off, create your own entity away from
- 4:50Speaker 3: the Dan Lebotard Show and Metal Arc Media.
- 4:52Speaker 2: How true is that?
- 4:54Speaker 1: You see what he did with his eye there. You
- 4:56Speaker 1: see how he delivered that question. Guys, I mean, what
- 4:58Speaker 1: is he doing? He is really this is.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Him his glory right here.
- 5:01Speaker 1: He is no longer a journalist and he gets to
- 5:04Speaker 1: ask me pressing.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Questions, asking for the people.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Man, I forgot the question. I was so focused on
- 5:11Speaker 1: your delivery.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I mean, when it was said that you wanted to
- 5:16Speaker 3: do this meaning I feel off and do this on
- 5:18Speaker 3: your own yes, how true is that?
- 5:20Speaker 2: So listen.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I have had discussions and I've said it on air
- 5:25Speaker 1: on hour show. I think I did an interview with
- 5:27Speaker 1: David Samson not too long ago where I said, yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 1: of course, when you play the role that I've played
- 5:32Speaker 1: for as long as I've played it, you get into
- 5:34Speaker 1: the industry wanting to do one thing, but then you
- 5:37Speaker 1: find an opportunity, with a great opportunity, sitting next to
- 5:40Speaker 1: Dan LeBatard, and you have to play a different role
- 5:43Speaker 1: than you envision and that role is difficult. It is tough.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I mean, Dan was hard on me and has been
- 5:47Speaker 1: hard on me. I'm okay with it. I'm accepting of it.
- 5:51Speaker 1: It obviously served me and him very very well, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: it served the show very very well. But of course, naturally,
- 5:56Speaker 1: after twenty years or along the way those twenty years,
- 6:00Speaker 1: of course, I had thoughts of doing things on my own.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I never kind of knew what they would be. I
- 6:06Speaker 1: never knew the timing on any of it. And so
- 6:09Speaker 1: those are things and thoughts that I've had. I've expressed
- 6:12Speaker 1: those out loud before both on our show to Dan,
- 6:17Speaker 1: but I never is he imagined doing it outside of
- 6:20Speaker 1: the confines of the company that I helped create, and
- 6:23Speaker 1: so that's the part that's really frustrating. I don't mind
- 6:25Speaker 1: doing it. I love what we're doing. This show has
- 6:29Speaker 1: been cathartic for me. It has been therapeutic for me.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I love it. I love working with Taylor, I love
- 6:34Speaker 1: working with you, I love Mike Ea. I love what
- 6:37Speaker 1: we have built here so far, and we're just getting started.
- 6:40Speaker 1: But I would have liked the opportunity to do it
- 6:43Speaker 1: within the confines of the company that I built with
- 6:46Speaker 1: Dan Lebatord, and I was never afforded that opportunity. And
- 6:49Speaker 1: I don't care what Dan says, never ever afforded that opportunity.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And since we're here, one of the other things he
- 6:56Speaker 1: said is that he helped me with this. He did
- 6:58Speaker 1: not not help me with this. Okay, helping me with
- 7:02Speaker 1: this would be doing it within the confines of the
- 7:04Speaker 1: company that I helped build. Again, that was not afforded
- 7:08Speaker 1: to me, and no one over there help me with
- 7:11Speaker 1: any of this. This was done on my own.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yes, Stut.
- 7:16Speaker 3: As much as I've gotten to know you over the
- 7:18Speaker 3: past year, I can tell when things really are starting
- 7:21Speaker 3: to trigger you, and I can tell that you, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 3: are getting worked up, and I don't want you. I
- 7:26Speaker 3: don't want you to do that because I know you
- 7:28Speaker 3: don't want to come across that.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I'm trying not to get worked up. This is all
- 7:31Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 7:32Speaker 1: People who listen to that show, they know fans of
- 7:35Speaker 1: the show, and I love you, and I want what
- 7:37Speaker 1: Dan wants. I want to make you happy. You guys
- 7:40Speaker 1: deserve an explanation. You were with us for a long time,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and you mean a lot to both of us. I
- 7:45Speaker 1: mean that, you really do. You mean a lot to
- 7:47Speaker 1: both of us. But the people who listen to this
- 7:49Speaker 1: show with consistency, they should know there is no way
- 7:55Speaker 1: in hell that I would ever leave the show the
- 7:58Speaker 1: way I've left the show. They know I care too
- 8:01Speaker 1: much about it. I dumped an entire twenty years of
- 8:05Speaker 1: my life into helping build that radio show and make
- 8:08Speaker 1: that show great. And I do view me and Dani's
- 8:11Speaker 1: partners in that company and in that show, and there
- 8:14Speaker 1: is no way you guys know me, The audience knows me,
- 8:17Speaker 1: Everyone in this industry knows me. I would not leave
- 8:20Speaker 1: under those terms. That's just not the way I would
- 8:22Speaker 1: do it. So that's all I can tell you on
- 8:24Speaker 1: that front. Is he I'm trying not to get too
- 8:26Speaker 1: excited here.
- 8:27Speaker 3: No, no, I appreciate it. I appreciate you being raw
- 8:30Speaker 3: and fully transparent.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Uncomfortable as a yes.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Well I'm curious though, because this is probably the
- 8:37Speaker 3: best question that was asked by Greg Cody on the show,
- 8:40Speaker 3: and he had to follow up as well.
- 8:42Speaker 2: So journalists. I mean, that's what he was done by him.
- 8:45Speaker 3: What is the relationship like right now between you and
- 8:48Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I gotta be honest. I know Dan said he loves me.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I love Dan despite all of this.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I do.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I mean, I love Dan and I have respect for
- 8:55Speaker 1: what it is that he and I built together. Is
- 8:57Speaker 1: he I would say that we're probably on the mount
- 8:59Speaker 1: rush More of sports radio shows throughout the course of history.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Perhaps I'm giving ourselves too much credit, but I firmly
- 9:07Speaker 1: do believe that, and so I am proud of that.
- 9:10Speaker 1: The relationship is what it is right now. I mean,
- 9:13Speaker 1: we're trying to get together, We're trying to communicate.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'll say this. I sent them a text, dizzy.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I offered to meet with him because things have slowed
- 9:21Speaker 1: down for me have slowed down a bit.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Here for me. I agreed to or offered to meet with.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Him any time he wants this weekend, and so my
- 9:30Speaker 1: hope is Dan and I will meet up or we'll
- 9:32Speaker 1: speak on the phone and we'll try to hash this out.
- 9:34Speaker 1: But if we continue to have the same goddamn conversation
- 9:37Speaker 1: that he and I have been having now for almost
- 9:40Speaker 1: a year, I'm telling you I'm getting pretty close to
- 9:42Speaker 1: giving up. So I'm going to give it one more
- 9:44Speaker 1: try here. I'm going to try to connect with Dan
- 9:47Speaker 1: this weekend, either in person or on the phone, and
- 9:50Speaker 1: hopefully we'll get to some sort of resolution because I
- 9:52Speaker 1: think I need it, I know he needs it, and
- 9:54Speaker 1: I know the audience needs it, and I think everyone's
- 9:56Speaker 1: tired of this bullshit.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Stu.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I want to circle back to something because I'm sure
- 10:00Speaker 3: there's a bunch of people listening wondering what I'm about
- 10:03Speaker 3: to ask you.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Jesus, a job.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I love questions, man, that's my thing.
- 10:07Speaker 1: You're jumping back to a question now that I've already answered.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I mean, Jesus, I should have had mikey A or
- 10:11Speaker 1: Taylor do this go ahead?
- 10:13Speaker 3: What was the condition?
- 10:16Speaker 2: How reasonable? Jesus, you're putting me on the spot. This
- 10:19Speaker 2: is what the Daily studs do.
- 10:22Speaker 3: How reasonable was the condition If you don't want to
- 10:24Speaker 3: answer specifically what it was because the negotiations can be tricky.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I think it was fair.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I think it's something that Dan can deliver on if
- 10:31Speaker 1: he wanted to deliver on it. Because it's Dan's it's
- 10:33Speaker 1: dance company. He has made that very very clear. So
- 10:36Speaker 1: if Dan wants to deliver on something, he could deliver
- 10:38Speaker 1: on anything. And what I asked for is something that
- 10:41Speaker 1: I feel like we should share in and I'm not
- 10:43Speaker 1: going to give too many more details other than that,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I think it's fair. I certainly think a conversation about
- 10:49Speaker 1: it is fair instead of just getting a flat no.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And it's not person specific, like it's not like I
- 10:54Speaker 1: don't want Zaslow sitting.
- 10:56Speaker 2: In no No. I love Zaslow.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Listen, if I actually left the show on my own terms,
- 11:02Speaker 1: Zaslow would be one of the people on a very
- 11:05Speaker 1: short list that I would handpick to replace myself.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I love Zaslow is talented.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I am sorry that he and everyone else has been
- 11:13Speaker 1: caught in the middle of this ridiculous thing. But no,
- 11:16Speaker 1: it was not about a person. It was not about
- 11:18Speaker 1: any single person at that place.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Man. I so badly wanted to make a Chris Cody joke,
- 11:24Speaker 2: but I didn't.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Not about a career. Yes, there are parts of that
- 11:29Speaker 1: business that are hard. The hard part should never be
- 11:32Speaker 1: me and my place within that company and on that show,
- 11:36Speaker 1: And somehow it became difficult out of nowhere magically, And
- 11:39Speaker 1: so I know the audience wants more details on stuff
- 11:42Speaker 1: like that. Those are details I'm not willing to give yet.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Until I talked to Dan. This is gonna be my
- 11:47Speaker 1: story to share because in a rare twist, is he
- 11:51Speaker 1: I have the truth.
- 11:52Speaker 2: On my side.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Okay, I know what happened, and so I know how
- 11:56Speaker 1: it went down, and I know people want to know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: and I'm comfortable telling people. But I am telling Dan,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and I'm telling everyone this right now. If we don't
- 12:04Speaker 1: get to some sort of resolution soon, some sort of
- 12:07Speaker 1: resolution that I'm happy with, I do want to come back.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I want to be a part of it. I want
- 12:11Speaker 1: to be able to do all of these things that
- 12:13Speaker 1: we're doing at some of the stuff over there. I
- 12:16Speaker 1: think it's going to make the audience happy, it's going
- 12:17Speaker 1: to make me happier, it's gonna make everyone happier. But
- 12:21Speaker 1: we need to get to some sort of resolution soon,
- 12:23Speaker 1: because I will not allow Dan to tell his version
- 12:26Speaker 1: of the truth without me rebudding and without me having
- 12:30Speaker 1: a say in it, because I am telling you right
- 12:31Speaker 1: now the only person in this equation, And this sounds
- 12:35Speaker 1: odd to our audience, okay, because I've been painted as
- 12:38Speaker 1: a liar, a phony, and a fraud for twenty two years.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But the person who has the truth on their side
- 12:44Speaker 1: in this particular case is me.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Me, That's it.
- 12:50Speaker 3: And let me just say this as I'm sort of
- 12:52Speaker 3: painting myself as a person who's just asking the questions here.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, look a lot of people that I like over there.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I love a lot of people over there, and so
- 13:01Speaker 3: all of this makes me wildly uncomfortable. But I echo
- 13:06Speaker 3: what you just said, and you know, there's a reason
- 13:08Speaker 3: why I'm here, and so.
- 13:10Speaker 2: There's a reason you're not allowed back. I mean, how about.
- 13:12Speaker 3: That the first time being outcast?
- 13:16Speaker 2: He's got that podcast for those I saw another episode to.
- 13:24Speaker 3: The one guy on Instagram who said if she's playing
- 13:26Speaker 3: bull shine, Yeah that was that was recorded last year. Ageah,
- 13:30Speaker 3: just I was not did not go back to metal
- 13:33Speaker 3: like that was recorded last year. It's just released now,
- 13:35Speaker 3: is he?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Let me say this. I will uh, I will give
- 13:38Speaker 1: Dan credit. He has recently tried to reach out. I
- 13:41Speaker 1: have heard a different tone in his voice when he
- 13:43Speaker 1: has left a voicemail or when we have spoken, So
- 13:46Speaker 1: he is trying here, okay, And I'm just telling the
- 13:49Speaker 1: audience I want resolution as well. I want it to
- 13:51Speaker 1: be positive. I want to have a good relationship with
- 13:54Speaker 1: everyone over there moving forward. But Dan and I have
- 13:57Speaker 1: to get to some sort of resolution where Dan acknowledges
- 13:59Speaker 1: to me what it is that actually happened, how it
- 14:02Speaker 1: went down, and if we can't climb that hurdle, it's
- 14:04Speaker 1: going to be a difficult roadback for me. I do
- 14:08Speaker 1: want all the right things. I've always wanted all the
- 14:10Speaker 1: right things. I love that show, I love the people
- 14:12Speaker 1: involved in that show. I'm very proud of that show.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But Dan has reached out. He has done so recently.
- 14:18Speaker 1: He is inviting me back to the show, although I
- 14:20Speaker 1: don't have a contract. But it's also convenient that he
- 14:23Speaker 1: is now doing it at a time where I have
- 14:25Speaker 1: been forced to go get four other jobs.
