Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_03: Today we're trying the Belgian style Abbey Abel from Martin City Brewing Company.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's time for the opening crack, the sideshow to the DD show we normally do where we taste and rank some epic brews.
- 0:26SPEAKER_03: How are we doing this evening, fellas?
- 0:29SPEAKER_03: We're doing well.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: We don't know what Phil's doing.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: What are you doing?
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: Sit down.
- 0:35SPEAKER_03: I'm back.
- 0:39SPEAKER_03: Welcome back.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: How's it going?
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: The crack and hide.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: You're testing the limits of your uh your headphone cord there.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: It was a little dicey there.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: There's a couple cans on the table.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: Reaching with a beer and like leaning back is it was pretty impressive.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Expert level.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: It'll do.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: It's like when you play guitar hero and you didn't face the screen.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like that.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: How did you even do that?
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: What?
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: Ryan Kettleson.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: Had all the songs memorized.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Memorization.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: We call them on hard level or easy.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: There's some song on expert.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Not on hard or easy.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: On expert.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Because you memorize the expert?
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Well, okay, so shout out to my older mate, Justin Buchanan.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: But like we played a lot of guitar hero and rock band in college to where like if we both faced the screen, if you both had 100%, no one wins.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So you have to turn backwards and see who can remember the most.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: You didn't just handicap with beers?
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: We weren't of age then, and we were fairly responsible honors students back then.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: We lived in the third dorm.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: We did live in the honors dorm.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Their toilets were inside.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, even better.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Just barely.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like I don't know.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: With all that said, uh, let's talk a little bit about our beer tonight.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Uh Brett, would you like to introduce our beer?
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: No.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: Uh it is the Belgian-style Abbey Ale from Martin City Brewing Company out of Kansas City, Missouri.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, nothing.
- 2:07SPEAKER_04: Not the Kansas type.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this one is a Belgian double.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: Double?
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: I always wrong duble.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: So let's uh let's take a little taste, talk about what does that mean though, Ross?
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: Uh duh double.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do, I do remember.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It's fine if you say double.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, I recently used to like uh when you go get a beer and there's like a dunkel dunkelweissen or something like that, and then it's like I'm learning German on duo, and then you get to the point where you learn that dunkel just means dark beer.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: Like all this is is dark beer.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: Dark wheat beer.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: Dark wheat.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, whatever.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: It takes a little a little the romance out of it, doesn't it?
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: It does a little bit like once you know like what it means 100%.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: The more you know.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: You see those memes where they're like, they called it river, and then the next come the next like language that came and conquered them called it their word for river.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: So now it's like river, river, and then it becomes river, river, river.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: It's like the same thing.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Just another language.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: Compounding history here.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: Uh, so you guys go ahead, take a taste.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'll read the description while we do it.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, but the the description from Martin City Brewing is uh goes a little like this.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: The beer tastes how it would feel if some monks threw a party.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: Kind of sweet, a little mellow, and for some weird reason spiritually satisfying.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: A toffee nose is followed by a perfect blend of rich and malty that hits your taste buds with cherry, chocolate, and apple.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Crack one open and party on, but be chill about it.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: You guys picking up those flavors and all?
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know what face that was.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I was trying to decide when you said that.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: I'm like, do I taste these things?
- 3:53SPEAKER_04: That's a lot of description.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Let me try again.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: I I don't get apple in it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: Like, sure, it's a darker beer, so I you kind of always pick up some chocolatey notes in darker beers.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Um I mean, there are lots of kinds of apple.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: What apple are you looking for?
- 4:08SPEAKER_04: I get the cherry.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, cherry cherry I do too.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: Just not.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: You're looking for you looking for like a red delicious?
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: You're looking for a granny smith, trying to find a gala, a pink lady, a foogies.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: So many different types.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: We're a pretty strict honey crisp household.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: Are you?
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: So are we.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: We we eat a lot of honey crisps here.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: I actually got some Fujiis and I'm waiting to see if anybody notices so far.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: Shame on you.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's fine.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: They were on sale.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're cheap.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: Shhh.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, I I guess at the end of the day, I don't get any apple what whatsoever to me, other than like some sweetness.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: It's like it's like to me, like a like a granny smith would give like dry notes, and I don't get a lot of dry notes out of this.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: And then like any red apple would give you like sweet, fruity flavors.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't get that beyond the cherry, really.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: So I looked I looked this up on Untapped as well, and it it mentioned like a hint of apple peel.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So I don't know if it's just supposed to be like a I I don't even I'm trying to figure out what that would mean and if I can taste that versus true like apple flavor.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Did that come from like the brewery or just from some commenter?
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know who controls Untapped, if that's the brewery or if it's user-driven.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, get out of here.
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: I feel like I taste cherry.
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so you know those boxes of cho boxes boxes of chocolate that have like the mixed types of chocolate in there, and then there's one of them in there that has like the cherry in the middle with like the white cream.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: That's what this reminds me of.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Is that good or bad?
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: It's good for me.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Okay, choose your own adventure.
- 5:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: I I do like those.
- 5:53SPEAKER_04: I I I I'm picking up you gotta know what you're getting into when you bite that piece of chocolate, because it's like if you're thinking like Reese's, it's like, oh god, what is happening?
- 6:05SPEAKER_04: But if you know it, yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: It's good.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, expectation makes a difference.
- 6:13SPEAKER_05: That's fair.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: I I felt that I got some some sort of pepper sorts of flavors towards the end.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Uh like the longer that I let it just um hang out, uh I got some pepper.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: I was like, maybe I got like a little banana kind of a flavor towards the end as well.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: And we've we've talked before that generally like banana flavors in beer tend to come from like the yeast, right?
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: It's popular in the duble um flavor profile too, actually.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it would make sense for this sort of like and for that sort of Abbey style.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Um I thought it was interesting.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: They they led with saying that there's a toffee nose on this.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I missed that, I guess.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: I didn't pick that up.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I feel like the longer it sits, I certainly pick it up a little bit.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: Um I mean, toffee and caramel are very similar to each other, and I I do feel like I I get a little bit of that in there.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: I definitely would say that I can pick up more of the flavors the longer this beer has sat.
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's it's not a cold drink.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: It's not best cold.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, agreed.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Which I think is true kind of of this style, isn't it?
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: More or less.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: We have found a lot of beers are better warmer.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Well, I think like a lot of craft beers are styles that are more common in Europe.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 7:32SPEAKER_04: Oh true.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: And in Europe, beer is served at a warmer temperature than it is here typically.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: One of my first thoughts when I had a sip of this is that it was tasted to me like the little brother of the beer that we just had.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: It does.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: It tastes like a toned-down version for sure.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Like a less extreme version.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: Which is kind of ironic.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: Uh, we haven't really mentioned it yet, but uh the ABV on this is a 7.2%.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: That beer was a 12%, so literally almost half that.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: I mean a little more than that, but and the IBUs at 30 on this one.
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Um, so I I actually whatever that beer was.
- 8:15SPEAKER_03: Tech I can't see the can.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: It was the the chocolate Mesoamerican chocolate lipoca.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: It tasted like the little brother to that beer to me.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: I I actually agree with you.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: I I don't think the chocolate notes are strong are are nearly as strong as that one by any means, but the hint of it is certainly there.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: It's a little less sweet too, and a lot lighter in color.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, like it's almost like yeah, that's a really good description of it.
- 8:40SPEAKER_04: It's the approachable version.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we'll find out.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: You can tell they're related, but they're still very different individuals, right?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Like they're brewed in the same state or something.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Where is this beer brewed, actually, Phil?
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: Kansas City, Missouri.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Hey, you know, Missouri, you know, it's fine.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: It's fine.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: The Missouri side.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Which side's the racetrack on?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: That's all that matters.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Kansas.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's right.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: Kansas Motor Speedway, that's why.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_03: Anyway, uh, let's uh dive into uh Faye Rune.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: Let's bring this back around to DD a little bit and talk about some beer names and pubs.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: Uh Phil, why don't you kick us off tonight?
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: You can find this beer at the Monks Reprieve.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Brother Sebastian will serve you house brew number three.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Simple.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: What number three?
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: House brew.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: House brew number.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: House brew number three.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: What did you hear?
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: He was busy reading his own notes.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: That's what I was doing.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: He was prepping.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: You're not busted.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Okay, yep.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Damon, what do you got?
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: Uh it is my belief that this beverage can be found at the timid twins.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: And where it goes by the name of Franklin's fault.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Who's Franklin?
- 10:02SPEAKER_04: So tell me about these twins.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: He's the guy that made it.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: And it's his fault.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: Man, that sounds like a lot of similar stories.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: Franklin.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Uh so Franklin is one of the twins.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: And the other twin is Jehosaphat.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: And Franklin was trying to brew Tez Catlipoka and he messed it up.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: So it's all Franklin's fault.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: It's his fault.
- 10:33SPEAKER_05: Oh God.
- 10:35SPEAKER_04: Alright, Brett, what do you got?
- 10:37SPEAKER_04: I'm going to take you to the Golden Dragonfly, which is a cozy bookstore/slash pub.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: Weird combination, but they're making it work.
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: And this is the Dragonfly's Dream, which you can sip on while snuggling up with a good book.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Interesting pause there.
- 11:01SPEAKER_04: I was like waiting for like a good blanket, and like you can sit in the window, like in one of those like rounded circle windows, and you sit in the there, and like the sun shines on you, shines on you, and yeah.
- 11:16SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 11:17SPEAKER_04: Good luck staying awake.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I already have that problem.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: Don't worry.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Uh, you're gonna find my beer at Toffee's Tankard.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: And Toffee is a person, she is a half-elf druid.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, and she brews a beer called the Golden Whispers.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: And the Whispers is referring to all the like slight flavor notes that are in this one.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: It's whose Whispers?
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: Golden Whispers.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: Golden.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: Golden Whispers.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: Like referring to the color.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: Kind of.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: I guess this is a darker, little bit darker beard, not really golden per se.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: Didn't think that one through.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: Obviously.
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: It's fine.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Half elf.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: Well, it's the other half druid.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: You said half elf.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: The other half's a druid.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Probably human in this case.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: Um, at least that's what it was in my brain.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: So this is a strange question.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: It's fine.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: That's what we're here for.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Are all the species biologically compatible?
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: I think I think the half species are all human and whatever.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Like a halfling is halfway.
- 12:26SPEAKER_04: Well, that's 2014 rules.
- 12:28SPEAKER_04: 2024 rules, they've gotten rid of that.
- 12:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's no half.
- 12:33SPEAKER_04: Oh, there's no more of that.
- 12:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they've got that.
- 12:34SPEAKER_04: They're not even talking about racists.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: There's some of it may be magical, not physical, but I kind of want to see a half dragonborn.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: A dragonborn?
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: Half half half-half uh halfling.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: No, half dwarf.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: I have to say half affling, but half like dwarf.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: So you get like a little dragon.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Quarterling.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: What if we already have like a half orc and a dragonborn?
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Do you have like a you just call it a dwarf?
- 13:05SPEAKER_04: Like what is it?
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: You guys missed the daemonism.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: The quarterling?
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 13:16SPEAKER_04: Half of a halfling.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Half halfling would be a quarterling, correct?
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: Welcome to the bottom of the panel.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: And let's uh put her back on the rails, boys.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: Uh let's talk a little bit about challenge rating.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're gonna talk a little bit about how we would score these on a scale of one to 20, CR1 being like uh domestics, cream ales, things like that, whereas the 20 would be double IPAs, triple IPAs, imperial stats, things like that.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: Uh so let's go around the table here and talk a little bit about where we would place this on the challenge rating.
- 13:50SPEAKER_03: And Brett, why don't you kick us off for this segment?
- 13:55SPEAKER_04: Uh I'm gonna give like a six.
- 13:58SPEAKER_04: I think it's got a little bit of that like craft beer bite to it, like the strong flavor profile to it that like a light beer doesn't have, but still very approachable.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: Um not overly anything in any regard.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: Like it's it's very approachable still.
- 14:19SPEAKER_04: I I I agree with that.
- 14:21SPEAKER_04: Phil?
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm right there with Brett.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: I was thinking seven.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Um I would say uh when people hear the words Belgian style, if you've ever had Belgian style beer, you think like it's almost malty.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Um this wasn't overly leaning that direction.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: It has like hints of it, but not to like what a quad were or something like a little bit stronger in that Belgian profile.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Um approachable, absolutely.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: If you don't drink a lot of craft beer, it could be a challenging drink for you, but uh, I thought this was delicious, so I think probably seven.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Dana?
- 15:03SPEAKER_02: I honestly don't really remember what this beer tasted like.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Um I've gone back to the other beer that I liked more.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: This is its little brother, so that helps.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Which is a one.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: So you can give it a few.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, that last one was a one.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: So where are you going to be?
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: It's like a two.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: My inclination was to say uh twelve.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: No.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: Ooh, okay.
- 15:27SPEAKER_04: What?
- 15:29SPEAKER_04: What?
- 15:30SPEAKER_04: Let's break that down.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: I find that oftentimes people become more pleasant to be around the older that they get.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: Um sounds very ageist in you.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: It's just based on experience.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: It's truth.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Your wife is younger than you.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, so like I mean, I have a lot to look forward to, so that's good.
- 16:00unknown: Yeah.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Would you give it you gave it a five?
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: A twelve! Twelve?
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: How did I miss that?
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: I heard five somewhere.
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: I think you're looking at your nose again.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: I don't I I didn't find it to be um there's more about this one that's sort of s that stands out in terms of the flavor.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: I think that actually the flavors are are pretty strong and come through fairly strongly.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: And there's enough of that sort of different sort of yeast going on that I think could put folks off of it.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: It's a 12 Ross.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: I should really make Damon go last.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: Um he influences me more than I feel like he should.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: That's fair.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: Ryle Ross is the swing card, like whatever Damon says, he's gonna swing like three points off of 12.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: I I don't think I can go.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't think I can nine.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: No, I I I think it's a six.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: I think it's still out there.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: You could still say eighteen.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Go way high.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: Definitely not that high.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: Uh, I I think the the weirdest thing in these, and it's like other Belgian styles that we've had, it's like that that yeast that gives the banana flavor can sometimes catch people off guard.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: It's it's a very craft brew brewing type flavor.
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's it's an approachable beer, so I don't I don't think it's higher than a seven.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: So and I I a hundred percent agree with a six.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: So twelve.
- 17:41SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 17:42SPEAKER_02: I feel that sometimes we underestimate the uh relative nature of this scale.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's pretty fair.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: You know, because you said a one on the 12%.
- 17:57SPEAKER_02: Let's say that you were if you you were like in the middle of a DD campaign and there was like a big rock that needs to be moved.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: There's some like so for somebody in the group, they probably only need to roll like a like a 12 to move the big rock.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: But for somebody else in the group, they would need to roll a 20 to move the big rock.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 18:21SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: I'm picking up what you're putting down.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: For a second, I thought we were headed towards.
- 18:26SPEAKER_04: You have somebody coming off the street, just sample this at the brewery.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this is a 12.
- 18:32SPEAKER_04: This is a twelve.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: I feel like what we need to do is we need to have like a rando show up when we do this and be like, here, how challenged were you on a scale of one to twenty?
- 18:43SPEAKER_04: Where would you put it?
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: How challenged were you?
- 18:47SPEAKER_04: Not is it good or bad.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: We each need to go through no further explanation.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: We need to go through every style of beer and establish what our like skill level would be.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: That would be a fun episode to do.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: Ooh, stay tuned in season three here.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: That might be if you want to know, or sorry, if you want to tell us what it should be, go to our Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Threads, any of those things and fill us in on what it should be.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: We don't know.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: Somewhere between a six and a twelve.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: So thanks for getting me freaking close.
- 19:25SPEAKER_03: Six and twelve.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: Uh okay, so let's do some yeer or nays.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: Fill yeer and nay.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: If if this beer was put in front of you again, would you drink it?
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: If someone offered this to me, I would absolutely drink it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Brett?
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Oh, Damon.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, I'd have another one.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: I would hope so, because you said it was the little brother of the beer you really like.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: So at the very least, this beer is decent.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: It's like the precursor.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: It's like the appetizer.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: You bark your way up.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 712.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Where are we headed after that?
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: I don't even know.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: I'm giving this one a hell yes.
- 19:58SPEAKER_04: Like, I would definitely take this one.
- 20:01SPEAKER_04: Like, this is this is my type of beer where just like sitting around around a table talking about stupid shit.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: Oh, what we're doing.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: This is my type of beer.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Fair.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: Fair.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: I feel called out, but I agree and I love it.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: So it's fine.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: I I'm I'm down.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: And I would say yes too.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: I think this is an excellent beer.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: This is this is like quintessential craft beer to me, and and I really enjoy it.
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: Uh, but this has been the Belgian-style Abbey Ale from Martin City Brewing Company in Kansas City, Missouri.
