- 0:12Hello friends, here we are. It's a Friday.
- 0:15Congratulations, you have made it to the end.
- 0:19Half another week and I bet it was a big one for you as today
- 0:23is. Is it the 22nd, 23rd, 24th.
- 0:26It's the 22nd. My goodness, not many sleeps now
- 0:30between now and Christmas, although still plenty of time to
- 0:33prepare that Christmas pudding for Annie June's celebration or
- 0:38whatever it is that is sitting at the top of your list of
- 0:41things that you just have to get done.
- 0:45But good on you, because in the midst of the madness here, you
- 0:48are stopping, pausing for a moment to invite me into your
- 0:52day so that you and I can read a Psalm together.
- 0:56And today's psalm's a cracker. It's a short one.
- 0:59It's only 13 verses long and it is a Psalm of praise, praising
- 1:06God for how just He is as he looks at the world.
- 1:12So this is a lovely one that we will just settle into.
- 1:17And we invite the Holy Spirit to slow down our minds, Put down
- 1:22all the things that are bubbling away and fermenting that need to
- 1:25be done. And just hear these words and
- 1:29prepare our heart to focus on him and His Majesty for a
- 1:34moment. All right, friends, let's me and
- 1:38you, let's do it. Read together.
- 1:41Psalm 96. Sing a new song to the Lord.
- 1:57Let the whole earth sing to the Lord.
- 2:01Sing to the Lord. Praise His name each day.
- 2:05Proclaim the good news that he saves.
- 2:10Publish his glorious deeds among the nations.
- 2:14Tell everyone about the amazing things He does.
- 2:18Great is the Lord. He is most worthy of praise.
- 2:23He is to be feared above all gods.
- 2:26The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made
- 2:31the heavens. Honor and majesty surround him.
- 2:36Strength and beauty fill His sanctuary.
- 2:41Our nations of the world recognize the Lord.
- 2:45Recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.
- 2:50Give to the Lord the glory He deserves.
- 2:54Bring your offering and come into His courts.
- 2:59Worship the Lord in all His holy splendor.
- 3:03Let all the earth tremble before him.
- 3:07Tell all the nations the Lord reigns.
- 3:12The world stands firm and cannot be shaken.
- 3:16He will judge all peoples fairly.
- 3:20Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice.
- 3:23Let the sea and everything in it shout His praise.
- 3:27Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy.
- 3:32Let the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord, for He
- 3:38is coming. He is coming to judge the earth.
- 3:43He will judge the world with justice and the nations with his
- 3:48truth. Father, we thank you that you
- 4:02are a God of justice, and you come with your justice and you
- 4:09separate right from wrong. But that's not where it ends.
- 4:13You don't just come with justice, but you come with
- 4:16abundant grace. That you just pour out over your
- 4:22creation, that you pour out over us, these broken people who just
- 4:29struggle, struggle to live as your saved children.
- 4:35And this Christmas, we just celebrate what you have done,
- 4:40that you have given us your son, that we would know who you are
- 4:45and what you are like, and we would feel your love and know
- 4:52your kindness. So we thank you in these last
- 4:58few days as we walk toward that stable in that little town of
- 5:03Bethlehem, to see this miracle of all miracles.
- 5:09You are just wonderful, Our Father, and we thank you for
- 5:13this gift of Jesus. We love you, and we pray all of
- 5:18this in His saving name. Amen.
