- 8:48Speaker 2: Good luck, mat O, Thanks Doug, keep an eye on things,
- 8:52Speaker 2: and maybe a long time before we get back. From
- 9:03Speaker 2: the bank window, I'd watched the Carp brothers ride north
- 9:06Speaker 2: out of Dodge, so Chester and I started in the
- 9:09Speaker 2: same direction and on the other side of the Arkansas.
- 9:12Speaker 2: We picked up their trail and followed it easily all morning,
- 9:16Speaker 2: but we were careful to stay far behind him and
- 9:18Speaker 2: out of sight, although we probably could have run him
- 9:21Speaker 2: down in a few hours. That was the hardest part
- 9:24Speaker 2: of it, forcing ourselves to hold back and go slows.
- 9:31Speaker 3: You doing you think carp would really do it? Do
- 9:34Speaker 3: what I said? You know? Do you? Yeah? Oh?
- 9:44Speaker 4: Chester?
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah? Look up ahead there on the ground. What's she doing?
- 9:48Speaker 3: Sehot it? It's a man? What you doing? Must be
- 9:58Speaker 3: some cowboy's been shot. Bring your water bag? Yes, he
- 10:08Speaker 3: was still breathing. Yeah, let me have it. If you
- 10:14Speaker 3: want to drink.
- 10:16Speaker 2: You're thirsty, drink some more water here? Yeah. Oh, are
- 10:28Speaker 2: you a Marshall dullon from a dodge? Tell me what happened?
- 10:33Speaker 4: Marshall? You know it's right right? Two men. That girl.
- 10:43Speaker 4: Oh oh, my head up?
- 10:49Speaker 2: Yeah? Is that better?
- 10:52Speaker 9: Smell of blood? Marsh there? I mean bad? Yeah, my knees.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Blame or what happened.
- 11:04Speaker 9: Them? Them two men marshalled did after the mid I'm
- 11:10Speaker 9: after him. I seen him in the road up and
- 11:16Speaker 9: then I asked him who they was and they didn't
- 11:20Speaker 9: like that. No, and if something was wrong the girl
- 11:27Speaker 9: and all, But I ain't no gunman. They shot me
- 11:33Speaker 9: right out of the side them, both of them, the
- 11:35Speaker 9: ones we got them blame. That's when they helped.
- 11:39Speaker 4: It don't matter now. But that girl shouldn't be with him.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Could you hear them?
- 11:45Speaker 2: Do they say anything.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Something about the cabin? The cabin?
- 11:53Speaker 2: Look, blame my partner here at Chester. He will stay
- 11:56Speaker 2: with you, sure I will. I'll take care of you.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Blame that thing'll do no good. You better go help
- 12:05Speaker 2: catch him.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I'll handle him.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Take whatever you want off my saddle, Chester, and get
- 12:09Speaker 2: a fire going here.
- 12:12Speaker 3: You're gonna be fine. So on.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I rode ahead, tracking slowly for a couple of hours,
- 12:37Speaker 2: and then Chester caught up with me. He looked at
- 12:40Speaker 2: me for a moment, and then, without saying a word,
- 12:42Speaker 2: we continued on the trail across the prairie. We traveled
- 12:46Speaker 2: in silence until dark, and then we saw a cabin.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I couldn't chance going up to it, so we unseddled
- 12:53Speaker 2: and turned our horses loose and crept into a little
- 12:55Speaker 2: draw about one hundred yards away and got down and waited,
- 13:00Speaker 2: and we waited all night. Dawn came and there's something
- 13:05Speaker 2: hot as.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Ever ain and never coming out of that cabin is dealing.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Sooner or later.

- 13:33Speaker 3: mister doing. What in the world are we gonna do
- 13:36Speaker 3: right now?
- 13:36Speaker 2: There's nothing we can do but sit here and wait
- 13:38Speaker 2: and keep quiet. You know what'll happen if they find
- 13:42Speaker 2: out we're out here.
- 13:43Speaker 3: You know, I ain't thinking about it. You better get
- 13:47Speaker 3: back down.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Uh, I'll stay up here where I can watch ye
- 13:51Speaker 2: taken see you as you do.
