- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: Balanced Life Chiropractic.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We have doctor Harley with us.
- 0:04Speaker 3: Hello, hey John.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We spoke a little.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Bit last week about Thanksgiving, which is going to be tomorrow.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Holy cow. So you guys are not open tomorrow, right, correct?
- 0:13Speaker 4: I can't imagine anyone else wants to come to my
- 0:15Speaker 4: office on Thanksgiving.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Are you closed on Friday as well?
- 0:18Speaker 3: We're always closed on Fridays.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so you close this Friday as well?
- 0:21Speaker 4: That right, We had different hours this week, you know,
- 0:24Speaker 4: Monday through Wednesday, a little bit different schedule.
- 0:26Speaker 1: But well, so for le let's kind of talk a
- 0:29Speaker 1: little bit about this because tomorrow there are going to
- 0:31Speaker 1: be some people who are going to overindulge and this
- 0:35Speaker 1: is one of those things where you go, Okay, how
- 0:36Speaker 1: in the world do we connect that to chiropractic. But
- 0:38Speaker 1: there are things that you can do to be prepared
- 0:40Speaker 1: and have a little better digestion, and let's talk a
- 0:43Speaker 1: little bit about that.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Right last week we were talking about how chiropractic can
- 0:46Speaker 4: help with digestion, with you know, preparing for the copious
- 0:50Speaker 4: amount of food.
- 0:51Speaker 3: That we're eating tomorrow, the feasting, which is great. You know,
- 0:54Speaker 3: it's a lot of good food.
- 0:56Speaker 4: At least in my family, we're all pretty a good cook,
- 0:58Speaker 4: so it's always really good food with us. So there's
- 1:01Speaker 4: actually a method that you can do when you're eating
- 1:03Speaker 4: that can help how your body digests your food.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Give me this method, so you think about it.
- 1:08Speaker 4: We got kind of three different food groups that we eat.
- 1:10Speaker 4: We have vegetables, protein, and.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Carbs, right, and pie.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I mean pie would be sugar, right, So this is
- 1:18Speaker 3: kind of restaurant psychology too.
- 1:20Speaker 4: You know a lot of times you eat your bread
- 1:21Speaker 4: or whatever free thing ahead of time, and then by
- 1:24Speaker 4: the time you're done with your meal, you're still kind
- 1:26Speaker 4: hungry because you have that post carb crash.
- 1:28Speaker 3: So then that kind of pushes you to want to buy.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Some dessert and that's where the pie comes in.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:33Speaker 4: So there's actually some research in nutrition that if you
- 1:37Speaker 4: eat your vegetables first, it actually helps your stomach get
- 1:41Speaker 4: ready to digest everything else, so it kind of puts
- 1:43Speaker 4: you in a better digestion mode. And then you eat
- 1:45Speaker 4: your protein, and then you eat your carbs and that
- 1:48Speaker 4: helps decrease that carb crash you have later.
- 1:51Speaker 2: So kind of layers thing. So here, tell me's like
- 1:52Speaker 2: a parfe.
- 1:53Speaker 3: In a way.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah, And it might be kind of a weird concept
- 1:57Speaker 4: to think, ok, come, we eat all of this one
- 1:58Speaker 4: dish first, and then I eat this, and then I'm
- 2:00Speaker 4: gonna eat this, where most of the time we eat
- 2:02Speaker 4: we kind of a little bit of this, a little
- 2:03Speaker 4: bit of that, a little bit there.
- 2:04Speaker 1: But if I start with, like the mashed potatoes, would
- 2:07Speaker 1: that be a would that be a good thing to
- 2:08Speaker 1: start with?
- 2:09Speaker 3: Mashed potatoes are carbs, so that that would be with it?
- 2:12Speaker 3: Eat with like your green beans, you know, your salad.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Like somebody taking notes, somebody help in my hair, your.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Green leafy vegetables or your greening castrole stuff that has.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Like you know, ifin just skip that, I'm gonna get
- 2:24Speaker 2: right to the good stuff.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I mean some people do. But then, you know, we
- 2:27Speaker 3: talked about that.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Carb crash later when everyone's already to take a nap
- 2:30Speaker 4: after eating that large food. You know, part of it
- 2:32Speaker 4: is you just we just eat so much food that
- 2:34Speaker 4: our stomach needs time to digest, so our brain's like
- 2:37Speaker 4: all right, time to shut everything else down, take a
- 2:39Speaker 4: nap for a while. So if you don't want to
- 2:41Speaker 4: have that carb crash, nap time later, eat your vegetables first,
- 2:45Speaker 4: then eat your protein, then eat your carbs, so.
- 2:47Speaker 2: The carbs, last would be the potatoes.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Then yeah, potato and stuffing dessert.
- 2:52Speaker 1: One of my most memorable Thanksgivings was I think it
- 2:54Speaker 1: was my second Thanksgiving with my wife Heidi, and we
- 2:58Speaker 1: we were hosting, and her brought forty pounds of mashed
- 3:02Speaker 1: potatoes because the year there were forty people come in,
- 3:06Speaker 1: so it was a pound of person. But apparently the
- 3:08Speaker 1: last time she had done the like, wow, last time
- 3:10Speaker 1: I bought potatoes, we ran out and I never heard
- 3:12Speaker 1: the end of it. And she had band aids all
- 3:14Speaker 1: over her hands because she cut herself so much from
- 3:16Speaker 1: peeling potatoes. We had multiple roasters full of potatoes, so
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm telling you, I get your potatoes. So I literally
- 3:23Speaker 1: had like a big plate with a giant mountain of potatoes.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I dipped a little top, I put.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Some gravy, and I put like one little tiny piece
- 3:30Speaker 1: of turkey next to it, and you know what, it
- 3:34Speaker 1: was really good.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I do love good mashed potatoes.
- 3:37Speaker 2: So now let's talk about next week, because next we'll
- 3:40Speaker 2: you kind of.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Be back to normal, and if somebody is gone, you know,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I would like to maybe add chiropractic to my regular schedule.
- 3:46Speaker 1: What is the best way for them to become a
- 3:48Speaker 1: patient here at Balance Life Chiropractic.
