- 1:54Speaker 1: count it, but I've been through and very very much there,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and and uh, I'm gonna take you a time where
- 2:07Speaker 1: it was different. And as you go there, you're gonna
- 2:14Speaker 1: be going, well, now it would be I forty and
- 2:19Speaker 1: you're gonna be going to I forty. Then when you
- 2:24Speaker 1: get to maybe about about the little small town called Seligman,
- 2:34Speaker 1: you're gonna take Gold sixty six route and you're kinda
- 2:40Speaker 1: cut off the I forty and travel down Old sixty
- 2:44Speaker 1: six down towards the backway the king in Arizona. And
- 2:49Speaker 1: as you go back to the back way King Mi
- 2:53Speaker 1: in Arizona, you're gonna hit little towns in between. You're
- 2:57Speaker 1: gonna first hit Peach Brings, Arizona, then followed by Truxton Valentine,
- 3:06Speaker 1: then finally our destination. We're gonna write. Before we get
- 3:10Speaker 1: to Kingmen, there's a little town called oat Min, Arizona,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and that's where we're going to be there today. And
- 3:19Speaker 1: there's a hotel there, it's called the Oatmen Hotel that
- 3:25Speaker 1: is on the historic site of and it's and it's haunted.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Oatmn was first established as a tense city in the
- 3:40Speaker 1: early nineteen hundreds, and the historic hotels was called the
- 3:45Speaker 1: Dirlin Hotel and was built in nineteen oh two. Eight
- 3:52Speaker 1: room hotel did a brisk business to area miners, especially
- 3:57Speaker 1: after two miners struck it rich a vein that would
- 4:02Speaker 1: end up being a healthy wealth of ten million dollars
- 4:10Speaker 1: of goldfind in nineteen fifteen. Before that time, the town
- 4:17Speaker 1: was being a little more than a mining camp. To
- 4:21Speaker 1: the rich gold discovery brought hundreds of new settlers, and
- 4:26Speaker 1: within one year's time, Oatman had grown into more than
- 4:31Speaker 1: three thousand, five hundred residents. Oatman suffered three major fires
- 4:38Speaker 1: and almost was destroyed the whole town in just a
- 4:43Speaker 1: few short years. However, the town was rebuilt and the
- 4:48Speaker 1: old hotel was repaired in nineteen twenty, continuing to host
- 4:54Speaker 1: its many guests. However, both the population and the mining
- 5:00Speaker 1: boom were very short lived. The largest mining company, the
- 5:06Speaker 1: United Eastern Mines, shut down its operations in nineteen twenty
- 5:12Speaker 1: four and the town almost died, but with the event
- 5:20Speaker 1: of Route sixty six, the old town and the hotel
- 5:25Speaker 1: hung on, ce bringing and catering to the mini travelers
- 5:30Speaker 1: along the new highway. According to the hotel, on March
- 5:36Speaker 1: twenty ninth eight, nineteen thirty seven, actor Clark Gable and
- 5:42Speaker 1: actress Carol Lombard spent their wedding night after having been
- 5:49Speaker 1: married in Kingman, Arizona. Remembering this memorial memorable night, the
- 6:00Speaker 1: will often returned to the hotel for the peace and
- 6:04Speaker 1: solitude it offered them. Clark was known to spend many
- 6:11Speaker 1: a night's playing poker with the miners. Sadly, Carol ben
- 6:18Speaker 1: Lombard was killed in a plane crash in January of
- 6:23Speaker 1: nineteen forty two. Though devastated, Clark continued his life and
- 6:29Speaker 1: career and later remarried again. After the years, the old
- 6:36Speaker 1: hotel carried several names, but has changed into the Oatman Hotel.
- 6:43Speaker 1: In the nineteen sixties, when the Route sixty six was
- 6:49Speaker 1: replaced by the interstate and that be Interstate I forty
- 6:55Speaker 1: or Interstate forty, oh Man again suffered steamed blow that
- 7:01Speaker 1: derailed a few and and as it got derailed and
- 7:09Speaker 1: it was bypassed, the town dwindled to a few gift
- 7:18Speaker 1: shops and restaurants. Today it only has about one hundred
- 7:25Speaker 1: people left that live in oad men all year round.
- 7:31Speaker 1: The Old Man Hotel is one of the biggest attractions
- 7:35Speaker 1: of the small village, as the word of its mischievous
- 7:39Speaker 1: ghosts has spread far and wide. The first and foremost
- 7:45Speaker 1: ghosts are of actor Clark Gable and his wife Carol Lombard,
- 7:51Speaker 1: eventually evidently has so many fine memories of the old
- 7:59Speaker 1: hotel that they simply refused to leave continue to celebrate.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Guests and staff often heard the pair whispering and laughing
- 8:11Speaker 1: from the room when as empty. According to one of
- 8:15Speaker 1: the reports, when a professional photographer took a picture of
- 8:21Speaker 1: the empty room, ghostly figure of a man appeared in
- 8:28Speaker 1: his developed print. Clark and Carroll are not alone, as
- 8:35Speaker 1: other spirits reportedly haunt the old hotel. The second floor
- 8:41Speaker 1: houses a theater room museum that were direct outlines of
- 8:47Speaker 1: the sleeping bodies have been found in the dust on
- 8:51Speaker 1: the beds. Upon closer and inspection, none of the surrounding
- 8:59Speaker 1: area has appeared to be disturbed. Staff suspects that the
- 9:06Speaker 1: sleeping spirits is a former chambermaid who has often been
- 9:11Speaker 1: spotted in the room. Other guest room is also haunted
- 9:16Speaker 1: is by an Irish miner who once lived there. Distraught
- 9:22Speaker 1: because his family had died When on his way to America.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He had a habit of heavy drinking. One night he
- 9:38Speaker 1: got carried away with the drink and passed out behind
- 9:44Speaker 1: the hotel. He never woke up. It said that he
- 9:48Speaker 1: has haunted his old room in the hotel ever since.
- 9:53Speaker 1: The staff refers to the spirit as Odie, who often
- 9:58Speaker 1: heard playing his back pipe around the hotel. Other common
- 10:04Speaker 1: pranks include opening the window on the former room and
- 10:09Speaker 1: pulling the covers off the bed. There have been reports
- 10:14Speaker 1: of the room being very very cold and missed being
- 10:18Speaker 1: in a hot desert day. Downstairs in the saloon, it
- 10:24Speaker 1: appears that there are several playful spirits at work here.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Two have been said to lift money off the bar
- 10:33Speaker 1: and raise the glasses into the air. Other strange phenomena
- 10:38Speaker 1: including lights turning on and off seemingly by themselves, and
- 10:45Speaker 1: sounds of eerie voices and toilets that flush in an
- 10:50Speaker 1: empty bathroom, and footprints that appear to have come from
- 10:57Speaker 1: nowhere on recently clean floor. Luckily for Oatman Hotel, it
- 11:04Speaker 1: seems as they were having a buffel of unusual guests
- 11:14Speaker 1: are playful, friendly type and don't have a habit of
- 11:20Speaker 1: scaring away of their guests. The Oatman Hotel is listed
- 11:24Speaker 1: on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The hotel is
- 11:29Speaker 1: filled with memorabilia of the past, and the Clark Gable
- 11:35Speaker 1: Lombard Room has been refurbished to the period they that
- 11:40Speaker 1: it was then. Today the Oatman Hotel no longer provides
- 11:46Speaker 1: accommodations for guests, but still serves as a museum, restaurant,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and gift shop and much much more. And I hope
- 11:58Speaker 1: you'd be able to when you travel down Old sixty
- 12:03Speaker 1: six and maybe put on your bucket list go see
- 12:09Speaker 1: the Old Man Hotel. And who knows, you might end
- 12:12Speaker 1: up taking a picture of Old Clark Gable and his wife,
- 12:17Speaker 1: and you might be able to hear Odie singing and
- 12:23Speaker 1: Bay in his bagpipes. And I hope you guys enjoy
- 12:29Speaker 1: the story. And until then, I hope you have a
- 12:38Speaker 1: blessed and nice day. This is Joe the Ghost Guy
