- 0:23Speaker 3: Carlo worked at free slapped around the boards, turned over.
- 0:27Speaker 4: Shane right, storre.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Puck one back to the near wall, ichel up top
- 0:34Speaker 3: Chel shoot stocked down by the card loose puck deflected
- 0:37Speaker 3: over top of the goal. There's the horn and the
- 0:40Speaker 3: Seattle Cracket come into Vegas.
- 0:43Speaker 4: They get their fourth win in.
- 0:45Speaker 1: A rollcocko right corner, feed good Row center right now
- 0:48Speaker 1: for rights.
- 0:49Speaker 5: He scoress Shane rights second goal of the game, base
- 0:56Speaker 5: left circle, fourteen oh eight remaining in period three.
- 1:01Speaker 1: How big is that goal for the Kracking? They're lad
- 1:04Speaker 1: pushed back to two and it's four to two.
- 1:07Speaker 6: So it was Brandon Montour had a good keep with
- 1:09Speaker 6: the point, pinching the wall tight to stop the puck
- 1:11Speaker 6: from getting out.
- 1:12Speaker 2: He feeds it.
- 1:13Speaker 6: Down to goodro Cadrow's got a two on one in
- 1:15Speaker 6: furnt of the net, going harder than that, he fins
- 1:18Speaker 6: right on the back door on his off wing, perfect
- 1:21Speaker 6: feet to him, right into the back of the net.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Four two cracking.
- 1:25Speaker 1: All right, those highlights courtesy of the Global Credit Union
- 1:28Speaker 1: Cracking Audio Network. When to close the homestand against the leafs.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Then two wins out of three on the road. So
- 1:35Speaker 1: when you think about it here, how valuable is this run?
- 1:39Speaker 1: Heading into the Olympic break? Welcome to Cracking Weekly, our

- 1:45Speaker 1: with you. It's just me and Everett here for this one.

- 2:01Speaker 1: plus also reaction from last night in Los Angeles, and

- 2:32Speaker 1: that also at sports radio kjar dot com.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Well here we are.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Heading into the break here at this point, and the
- 2:39Speaker 1: Crack and really did themselves a big favor last night,
- 2:42Speaker 1: getting into third place in the Pacific Division with a
- 2:45Speaker 1: win over the Kings sixty three points twenty seven twenty
- 2:49Speaker 1: and nine and just three points back of the Vegas
- 2:53Speaker 1: Golden Knights, of course, pending the results of this evening
- 2:56Speaker 1: between Vegas and the Los Angeles Kings, and then at
- 3:00Speaker 1: that everyone is going out to the Olympic break, so
- 3:03Speaker 1: also a great chance to keep eyes on those like Coppocaco,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Ellie Tolbn and Philip Grubauer, Oscar Fisker, Bulguard and more
- 3:10Speaker 1: on the cracking side.
- 3:12Speaker 2: All right, without.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Further ado, ever, it fits you joining us now, Hi
- 3:15Speaker 1: fits It just kind of seems like yesterday, really it
- 3:19Speaker 1: was that we were on the airplane coming back home together.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie, I'm tired, but it's a good
- 3:26Speaker 1: kind of tired to me after getting through nineteen games
- 3:29Speaker 1: in thirty five days.
- 3:30Speaker 2: What about you?
- 3:31Speaker 4: Yeah, man, it's uh.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be a lot of much needed.
- 3:40Speaker 4: R and R.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I think for a lot of us around the organization,
- 3:46Speaker 3: a lot of us around the teams, it's there is
- 3:52Speaker 3: a sense of accomplishment. And what I mean accomplishment is
- 3:55Speaker 3: you go into the year. I don't think a lot
- 3:58Speaker 3: of people expected this team to be where they are
- 4:00Speaker 3: right now. There were folks nationally, there were folks locally
- 4:05Speaker 3: who were not maybe not high on the crack end,
- 4:10Speaker 3: but they just thought that they were maybe a year
- 4:11Speaker 3: or two away. And I think now with Lane lambertin here,
- 4:14Speaker 3: I think the resurgencies and that we've seen for Philip Krubauer,
- 4:17Speaker 3: I think the play for Matty Veneers that we've seen.
- 4:21Speaker 3: You now have a team that is expecting to make playoffs.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I said it going into the season, playoffs this year,
- 4:31Speaker 3: that's the goal. But the absolute lowest minimum basement floor
- 4:36Speaker 3: bar for this team was to be playing meaningful games
- 4:41Speaker 3: in to March, coming out of the Olympic break, going
- 4:44Speaker 3: into the trade deadline with some tough decisions to make.
- 4:47Speaker 3: You now have played fifty six games of eighty two.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You are third place in the division. You're three points
- 4:54Speaker 3: back of Edmonton and Vegas, who are three months back
- 4:57Speaker 3: in Vegas who were.
- 4:59Speaker 4: In f and you're one point back of Edmonton who
- 5:01Speaker 4: are in second.
- 5:02Speaker 3: They've been on a free for all uh lately, they've
- 5:05Speaker 3: lost three and a Roby Whalers have So I mean,
- 5:07Speaker 3: for for me, you're you're going into the break in
- 5:11Speaker 3: a playoff spot, in a top three spot. I don't
- 5:15Speaker 3: know of anybody who isn't thrilled and ecstatic over that.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Right now, the guys, you're gonna get so much needed.
- 5:22Speaker 4: R and R.
- 5:23Speaker 3: There's a couple of injuries that we're still working through
- 5:25Speaker 3: with Ben Myers and Berkeley Katton and Matt Murray hopefully
- 5:31Speaker 3: and James Schwartz ed it's right he was out last
- 5:33Speaker 3: night as well. But you're hoping that Ellie Tulven and Coppoccio,
- 5:37Speaker 3: Philip Grubau or Oscar Fisker Mulgard all have really strong Olympics,
- 5:42Speaker 3: but they come back healthy. I think that's the big
- 5:44Speaker 3: thing for this group. But all in all, I'm happy.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I'm very happy. I'm very tired, but I'm very happy.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I'll count that maybe as your opening thoughts here for
- 5:53Speaker 1: this and I have my opening thoughts as well, folks.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And once again you can find me at Baton Underscore
- 5:58Speaker 1: Mike here for more reaction. Also ever it fits you
- 6:00Speaker 1: at the Voice Fits. Also find the Crack and Audio
- 6:03Speaker 1: Network at Crack and Audio Net. We'll also get to
- 6:05Speaker 1: our poll question of the week coming up in just
- 6:07Speaker 1: a bit. My opening thoughts are this here. If you
- 6:10Speaker 1: can go back into October, this season opens so many
- 6:15Speaker 1: doors as far as possibilities, where was.
- 6:17Speaker 2: This team going to go?
- 6:19Speaker 1: Ultimately, as Everett mentioned, and it lines up what many
- 6:22Speaker 1: were saying way back in this last summer, the ultimate
- 6:25Speaker 1: goal was to be in the mix here for the playoffs.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You ask any veterans their goal was to be in
- 6:31Speaker 1: the playoffs. Ellie Tolbenen said so with us as well,
- 6:35Speaker 1: all the way back to September. He's now just gone
- 6:38Speaker 1: past four hundred games in his NHL career. What you
- 6:41Speaker 1: are now doing is that you are fostering an environment
- 6:45Speaker 1: that tells us that the playoffs are what this team
- 6:48Speaker 1: wants and you're going to stop at nothing to essentially
- 6:52Speaker 1: get there. I go back and consider how many new
- 6:55Speaker 1: fans we are usually told enter climb the Pledge arena
- 6:59Speaker 1: each and every game. It's still roughly around two thousand
- 7:02Speaker 1: fans a game. Last I checked here on this with
- 7:05Speaker 1: a source. So when you have two thousand fans new
- 7:08Speaker 1: ones per game coming in first impressions to make such
- 7:11Speaker 1: a big deal and the more and more wins that
- 7:13Speaker 1: you're stacking up these days tell these fans that this
- 7:16Speaker 1: is a team that is as simply serious as far
- 7:19Speaker 1: as playoff contention. And now at the Olympic break they
- 7:23Speaker 1: are three points out of first place in the Pacific Division.
- 7:27Speaker 1: So you tell me, are they going to be a
- 7:29Speaker 1: seller or are they going to be a buyer? I
- 7:31Speaker 1: think at this point the answer is crystal clear. Reportedly,
- 7:35Speaker 1: the Kraken we're this close to getting our Timmy Paneren.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Eventually he picked his spot, that being the Los Angeles Kings,
- 7:41Speaker 1: according to reports, which also said the Krakend took a big,
- 7:45Speaker 1: huge and furious swing to get him, which tells us
- 7:49Speaker 1: one thing. They're looking to add big time scoring, which
- 7:52Speaker 1: tells us once again they want to put foot to
- 7:54Speaker 1: gas at presenting playoff theater. Here for a crowd that
- 7:58Speaker 1: is still looking to grasp bond to hockey for the
- 8:01Speaker 1: first time ever. Despite how well and trends this hockey
- 8:03Speaker 1: community has been years upon years upon years, the playoffs
- 8:07Speaker 1: are still very much an important thing, so which again
- 8:10Speaker 1: leads me to believe that once we come out of
- 8:12Speaker 1: this Olympic break and trades are once again a full
- 8:15Speaker 1: go in about roughly two and a half weeks the
- 8:18Speaker 1: freeze ends on the twenty second of February, that's going
- 8:21Speaker 1: to be some pretty fun theater here to look at.
- 8:24Speaker 1: As far as who the crack had want to pursue
- 8:26Speaker 1: to add more to this top six, because it looks
- 8:29Speaker 1: like Matty Beniers is reaching a brand new level, Jared
- 8:32Speaker 1: McCann is playing like a forty goal scorer, Jordan Eberley
- 8:35Speaker 1: is still producing like a top six ford and still
- 8:38Speaker 1: producing well into his thirties at this point, and the
- 8:41Speaker 1: Kraken are finding ways to still generate offense even with
- 8:44Speaker 1: players on the shelf like Everett mentioned in Jaden Schwartz
- 8:48Speaker 1: and also recently here Berkeley Katton despite how young he is,
- 8:51Speaker 1: but you can certainly still see flashes of brilliance emerging
- 8:54Speaker 1: from his game. We have now reached the point where
- 8:58Speaker 1: we can, I think certainly determine that we're where the
- 9:00Speaker 1: Crack and are going to be in this spot, and
- 9:03Speaker 1: Buyer sends one message this team is serious about getting
- 9:07Speaker 1: into the playoffs and providing fans that we are still
- 9:09Speaker 1: curious about this game withst some grand theater in April,
- 9:12Speaker 1: while you still have also young kids coming along the way.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And this ultimately is a very very exciting thing. So
- 9:18Speaker 1: again you can find me at Benton Underscore Mic and
- 9:21Speaker 1: again the Crack and audio network at Kraken Audio Net.
- 9:24Speaker 1: The Crack in third place in the Pacific Division, three
- 9:27Speaker 1: points back of Vegas, one point back of the Edmonton Oilers.
- 9:31Speaker 2: But ever, I go back to five.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Wins here in six games to end this and ultimately
- 9:36Speaker 1: for us. Last week we talked about the bar on
- 9:39Speaker 1: this road trip. Four points out of six. That was
- 9:43Speaker 1: the Bar and the Crack and do it with wins
- 9:46Speaker 1: in Vegas. They rebound then after what was mostly a
- 9:51Speaker 1: clunker in Anaheim, to come right back and get a
- 9:54Speaker 1: win in Los Angeles. The same day the Kings acquire
- 9:58Speaker 1: Superstar are Timmy Paneren So where did it meet your bar.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Here for this road trip?
- 10:02Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:03Speaker 3: I mean I would have liked a better performance against Anaheim.
- 10:06Speaker 3: This is now two clunkers in a row against the Ducks.
- 10:10Speaker 3: And I think I was talking to Steve Carroll, who's
- 10:14Speaker 3: the radio voice of Anaheim, after the game the other.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Night, to see him back by the way.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he's been he's been very very private, very
- 10:22Speaker 3: quiet about it. But there's been some health related issues
- 10:27Speaker 3: going on with him recently. And anytime you see Steve
- 10:31Speaker 3: around the rink, you know, is a good day.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Man. I was talking to him. I'm going to tell
- 10:36Speaker 4: this quick aside here. He is a very fascinating person.
- 10:40Speaker 2: He is all good in.
- 10:41Speaker 3: This industry longer than most of us have been alive.
- 10:45Speaker 3: This is his twenty fifth I believe he said twenty
- 10:48Speaker 3: fifth or twenty sixth year here in Anaheim with the
- 10:52Speaker 3: Anaheim Ducks. He did thirty three years in minor league
- 10:57Speaker 3: broadcasting before the Anaheim Ducks.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Thirty three years.
- 11:01Speaker 2: He climbed the ladder. Then in the minor leagues. Man, yeah, I.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Mean so uh, but no, I asked that. When he
- 11:08Speaker 4: told me that, I was like, wait.
- 11:09Speaker 3: A minute, let's let's forget the team for a second.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Thirty three years. So we had a really good talk
- 11:15Speaker 3: about his career. But but no, he was telling him
- 11:17Speaker 3: and I were talking and I said that I really
- 11:20Speaker 3: feel this is a playoff preview because the way this
- 11:24Speaker 3: division sets up right now, I mean Seattle and Anaheim
- 11:28Speaker 3: both could finish one to two.
- 11:30Speaker 4: They could finish one to.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Three, they could finish two three, they could finish wild
- 11:34Speaker 3: card one, or they both could finish out of the
- 11:37Speaker 3: playoffs not going wood.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Hopefully that doesn't happen.
- 11:40Speaker 3: But you know, Anaheim, I think maybe exposed a little
- 11:44Speaker 3: bit of Seattle in that game, But overall, I thought
- 11:47Speaker 3: you won the two games that you that that you
- 11:50Speaker 3: wanted to win. Vegas, You've always struggled in that building.
- 11:55Speaker 3: You've struggled against the Golden Knights there, your expansion cousin,
- 11:59Speaker 3: if you will. So that needed to be accomplished in
- 12:04Speaker 3: the way that they did it. Man, that was a
- 12:06Speaker 3: statement win. You talk about we were talking last week
- 12:08Speaker 3: about Washington Toronto statement wins there. That Vegas game was
- 12:11Speaker 3: a statement win Anaheim game. It is what it is,
- 12:14Speaker 3: la your down one nothing and then you say, oh,
- 12:16Speaker 3: wait a minute, the game has started, and then you
- 12:18Speaker 3: rattle off, you know, three in a row, and then.
- 12:24Speaker 4: They make it interesting.
- 12:25Speaker 3: But I think for Seattle, they did exactly what they
- 12:28Speaker 3: needed to do. They're in a top three spot going
- 12:31Speaker 3: into the playoffs. I like where this team is. Like
- 12:34Speaker 3: I said before, you're hoping that guys are gonna get healthy.
- 12:38Speaker 3: I think the one thing that maybe concerns me right
- 12:41Speaker 3: now is of all eight teams currently in a playoff
- 12:45Speaker 3: spot Colorado, Minnesota, Dallas, Vegas, Edmonton, Seattle, Utah, and Anaheim,
- 12:51Speaker 3: only the Kraken and the Ducks have a negative goal
- 12:54Speaker 3: differential that maybe that worries me a little bit, cracking.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Or minus three and the Anaheim Ducks are mind ten.
- 13:00Speaker 3: But again, as long as you get in the playoff
- 13:02Speaker 3: doesn't really matter, you know, because playoff games are three
- 13:05Speaker 3: two to two one games anyway. So overall, I like
- 13:08Speaker 3: where this team finished.
- 13:09Speaker 4: I like how they rebounded last night in La.
- 13:12Speaker 3: It was a very loud and boisterous flight on the
- 13:15Speaker 3: way home, all the way until right two point thirty
- 13:17Speaker 3: when we landed, which is what you like to hear.
- 13:19Speaker 3: And now they're gonna be able to enjoy so much
- 13:22Speaker 3: dat to time off.
- 13:23Speaker 1: We saw some players get off that plane in a
- 13:25Speaker 1: very very happy mood, and there was a sense of
- 13:28Speaker 1: there was at least a checkpoint accomplished. Not so much
- 13:32Speaker 1: a mission accomplished here, but I want to get here
- 13:35Speaker 1: to some very riveting discussion going on I think nationally
- 13:38Speaker 1: right now, and it deals with the Jack Adams Award.
- 13:41Speaker 1: You're gonna hear John Cooper's name thrown in there. You're
- 13:44Speaker 1: gonna hear I think Dan Muse's name for Pittsburgh thrown
- 13:47Speaker 1: in there. But now we're hearing talk of Lane Lambert
- 13:51Speaker 1: and his name being involved in the Jack Adams conversation.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I think at this point where the crack and are
- 13:59Speaker 1: at right now, it is difficult to impossible to ignore
- 14:03Speaker 1: the work that he's done.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Fits.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I think you're banging on there.
- 14:07Speaker 3: I think for me, all of these awards sometimes they
- 14:13Speaker 3: get a little muddied, right Like I go back to
- 14:17Speaker 3: the year that Eric Carlson won the Norris a few
- 14:21Speaker 3: years ago, and it was you know, he had one hundred.
- 14:25Speaker 4: And some on points. Is great.
- 14:27Speaker 3: He was also like a dash fifty dash thirty five
- 14:31Speaker 3: right on a last place team. I would have gone
- 14:34Speaker 3: Vince Dunn, who had career highs in scoring that year
- 14:39Speaker 3: and and was it. Let me, I'm gonna pull up
- 14:42Speaker 3: done stats here from that season, because that was that
- 14:44Speaker 3: second second.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Yeah, here it is.
- 14:47Speaker 3: He had fourteen goals fifty assists, and he was a
- 14:50Speaker 3: plus twenty eight on that playoff team.
- 14:52Speaker 4: And I always I look at these these.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Awards as as who's the most valuable to your team?
- 14:59Speaker 3: And I feel like, in the case of Lane Lambert,
- 15:03Speaker 3: what he's been able to do with this team, with
- 15:06Speaker 3: this roster that has been much maligned across the league,
- 15:10Speaker 3: not internally here because you and I and al and
- 15:13Speaker 3: everyone else in that locker room knows how good this
- 15:16Speaker 3: team is and how good this team can be.
- 15:18Speaker 4: But when you listen to folks.
- 15:21Speaker 3: All around the league, there's no superstar, there's no sex appeal,
- 15:24Speaker 3: there's no this, there's no that. With the Seattle Kraken,
- 15:27Speaker 3: and all they've done this season is win, and they've
- 15:31Speaker 3: gone into a spot where they are fighting for first
- 15:36Speaker 3: in the division. That's saying something. And I think, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 3: it's going to be hard not to look at Jared
- 15:46Speaker 3: Bednar in Colorado, not to look at Tampa, not to
- 15:50Speaker 3: look at I would say, even Martin San Luis in Montreal,
- 15:53Speaker 3: maybe Lindy ruffin Buffalo. The job that he's been able
- 15:56Speaker 3: to do. If he can pull Buffalo into the playoffs since,
- 16:00Speaker 3: you know, for the first time since there were forty
- 16:02Speaker 3: eight stars on the flag, I think that's going to be,
- 16:05Speaker 3: you know, a big candidate. But you're right, man, Lanne Lambert,
- 16:08Speaker 3: his name like Dave Hackstall few years ago. His name's
- 16:11Speaker 3: got to be in that conversation.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I want to talk a little bit about Shane Wright
- 16:15Speaker 1: after last night because this is now becoming a pattern
- 16:20Speaker 1: of I think an uptick in his offense and also
- 16:24Speaker 1: what he is doing right now to gain quality time.
- 16:27Speaker 1: He had three twenty one a power play time last night.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Now the Kings had a course of parade at the
- 16:31Speaker 1: penalty box as well. But we're now seeing confidence meet
- 16:34Speaker 1: production with this game. And he's got now multi goal
- 16:37Speaker 1: outings in the last four games, twice against the Maple Leafs,
- 16:42Speaker 1: the course to end the homestand and now last night
- 16:45Speaker 1: against the Kings, and neither goal came on the cheap
- 16:50Speaker 1: for him.
- 16:50Speaker 2: So what do we make about his game right now? Everett?
- 16:53Speaker 3: You know, I like Shane Wright's game where it is
- 16:56Speaker 3: coming into last night. Shane Wright had four goals in
- 16:59Speaker 3: four assists in his last thirty games. He now has
- 17:02Speaker 3: got four goals in his last four games, so you're
- 17:05Speaker 3: seeing the offense uptick a little bit here from him.
- 17:08Speaker 4: He's playing with confidence.
- 17:09Speaker 3: And I almost said this on the TV broadcast last night,
- 17:13Speaker 3: but I stopped short. I feel bad for Shane, right
- 17:20Speaker 3: because of all of the trade talk, all of the distractions.
- 17:24Speaker 4: That have been out there.
- 17:26Speaker 3: It's hard to play for a third coach in your
- 17:30Speaker 3: NHL career and you're only twenty two years old, right,
- 17:34Speaker 3: that's hard to do. He has been learning, he's been
- 17:38Speaker 3: having to learn a new system, he's been having to
- 17:40Speaker 3: learn new line mates, and I think by all accounts,
- 17:43Speaker 3: he's done well at that. So for Shane to be
- 17:48Speaker 3: able to put all of that noise behind him, I
- 17:52Speaker 3: will say that for my money, I've loved his game
- 17:56Speaker 3: the last week here. He's had a bit of anger
- 17:59Speaker 3: to his game, a little bit, a little bit more
- 18:03Speaker 3: bleep you.
- 18:04Speaker 4: If I can say that to his game, and it's been.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Really fun to watch, especially with those two goals, the
- 18:10Speaker 3: confidence of the goals he scored last night. So you know,
- 18:14Speaker 3: I commend him from for for putting that noise behind him.
- 18:19Speaker 3: You know, I think there's been a lot of uh
- 18:22Speaker 3: of I liked his game the last week here, and
- 18:26Speaker 3: I go back to what he said after the game
- 18:29Speaker 3: after game last week to the media crew. He said,
- 18:31Speaker 3: you know what, no offense to you guys in the media,
- 18:33Speaker 3: but that's all just noise and y'all don't know what
- 18:36Speaker 3: you're talking about. And I'm like, yeah, you know what, listen,
- 18:39Speaker 3: you're you're right man. All we have to go on
- 18:42Speaker 3: is speculation and pontification. But I'm really I'm happy that
- 18:47Speaker 3: he's fighting, that he's had this success these last four games,
- 18:51Speaker 3: and I'm hoping that this continues for him. But I
- 18:53Speaker 3: loved his game the last five, in particular.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Shane right again getting two more goals last night and
- 18:59Speaker 1: that went over the Kings.
- 19:00Speaker 2: And I certainly agree.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Just I think based on the reports that have been
- 19:03Speaker 1: surfacing maybe about his availability, he's addressed him at least,
- 19:07Speaker 1: you know, on the surface level as far as what
- 19:11Speaker 1: he's thought about all the reports out there, there haven't
- 19:15Speaker 1: been much as far as him trying to insulate all
- 19:17Speaker 1: of this. But I think again it really goes back
- 19:19Speaker 1: to I think a new level of his gain that
- 19:22Speaker 1: he has found over the last month. We're learning about
- 19:25Speaker 1: how much he controls the puck, how much confidence he
- 19:28Speaker 1: has with it, and then also using his shot to
- 19:30Speaker 1: his advantage, and that's been very, very beneficial right now
- 19:33Speaker 1: for the Kraken and what they've been putting out as
- 19:36Speaker 1: far as a depth in this lineup, I'll.
- 19:38Speaker 4: Just saying, I think too with Shane what we failed
- 19:40Speaker 4: to realize.
- 19:40Speaker 3: And I feel like I bring this up every year,
- 19:44Speaker 3: so I'm just gonna rinse, lather, repeat.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Shane Wright has been.
- 19:48Speaker 3: At the top of the hockey conscience for eight years.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Literally just turned twenty two a month ago.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and I feel like we've for as long as
- 20:01Speaker 3: we've been talking about Shane Wright in his Triple A years,
- 20:05Speaker 3: in his junior years, Shane Wright should be thirty. He's
- 20:09Speaker 3: twenty two, right, so he's going on one hundred and fifty.
- 20:13Speaker 3: He just played his one hundred and fifty first NHL
- 20:15Speaker 3: game last night at twenty two years old. I'm not
- 20:19Speaker 3: even going to call Shane Wright a late bloomer. He's
- 20:21Speaker 3: still a young player. But I think because we've been
- 20:25Speaker 3: talking about him for over a decade now, it seems
- 20:29Speaker 3: like almost a decade of talking about Shane Wright. You know,
- 20:34Speaker 3: the expectations that have been laid upon him. He's done
- 20:39Speaker 3: nothing but handle him with grace and humility and humbleness,
- 20:48Speaker 3: and he's continuing to learn and grow and watching his game. Sure,
- 20:53Speaker 3: would you like Shane Wright to be a thirty goal scorer? Absolutely?
- 20:56Speaker 3: I said it coming into the year. I thought Shane
- 20:58Speaker 3: Wright had thirty goals in him this season. He's at
- 21:00Speaker 3: eleven right now. He maybe he can go on a
- 21:03Speaker 3: tourd pace get to twenty before the year's out. But
- 21:05Speaker 3: I think Shane Wright, for me, he's where he needs
- 21:08Speaker 3: to be. I think next year is twenty two going
- 21:11Speaker 3: on twenty three year old season. I look for him
- 21:14Speaker 3: to take a massive step forward. But for him, he's
- 21:18Speaker 3: got to continue just.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Burying that noise deep down and continuing to do what
- 21:23Speaker 4: has made him successful.
- 21:24Speaker 1: As a mark of a pro. And you can certainly
- 21:26Speaker 1: see the influence begin to rub off more on him
- 21:29Speaker 1: as he gains more and more months, more and more
- 21:32Speaker 1: years as well.
- 21:33Speaker 2: In this league, our.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Poll question by the way of the week, biggest threat
- 21:38Speaker 1: now and the Western Conference playoff picture for the crack
- 21:40Speaker 1: and to overcome at this point do you believe it
- 21:43Speaker 1: is the Kings, the Ducks, the Golden Knights or the
- 21:46Speaker 1: Edmonton Oilers. Vote now right now at Crack and Audio
- 21:49Speaker 1: Net Everett and I will talk about this more. But
- 21:51Speaker 1: right around the break is Mick Kurn of Sirius X
- 21:55Speaker 1: NHL Network Radio right here on Cracking Weekly, last one
- 21:58Speaker 1: before the Olympic break on three three KJRFM. Forty three
- 22:03Speaker 1: games down and the Coachella Valley Firebirds still very much
- 22:07Speaker 1: in the playoff mix. Fifth right now in the Pacific
- 22:10Speaker 1: Division again. Top seven in that division make it into
- 22:13Speaker 1: the AHL's postseason and of course as a Calder Cup playoffs.
- 22:17Speaker 2: The Firebirds right.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Now a record of twenty three fifteen and five. They
- 22:23Speaker 1: have twenty nine games remaining fifty one points. That right
- 22:26Speaker 1: now a points clear of the first team on the
- 22:29Speaker 1: outside looking in in Henderson. The Firebirds, though a tough
- 22:33Speaker 1: not offense, will be last night losing to the one
- 22:35Speaker 1: in San Jose. Yanni Newman though scored the lone goal
- 22:38Speaker 1: for the Firebirds. He's got ten points in the last
- 22:41Speaker 1: ten games. Logan Morrison and Jaggerfercus right now leading the
- 22:45Speaker 1: Firebirds each and scoring with forty points. Morrison now went
- 22:48Speaker 1: twenty one goals through forty three games. That leads the
- 22:51Speaker 1: Firebirds in the goal scoring column. Tomorrow night, Coachella Valley
- 22:55Speaker 1: back in action they'll take on Henderson in a pair
- 22:58Speaker 1: of road games, opening up once again seven o'clock Pacific
- 23:01Speaker 1: time tomorrow night on Friday. Well, the Kraken right now
- 23:05Speaker 1: entering the break and miss the very crazy and chaotic
- 23:08Speaker 1: playoff picture.
- 23:08Speaker 2: But how much have they solidified their spot.
- 23:11Speaker 1: As far as perception in the playoff picture for the
- 23:14Speaker 1: Western Conference. Perhaps opinions are getting stronger as far as
- 23:18Speaker 1: the Kraken and their place in the postseason picture. All right,
- 23:22Speaker 1: now to the Beacon Plumbing hotline we go. But in
- 23:24Speaker 1: a while since we had this friend Don here with us.
- 23:26Speaker 1: But it's always a good time with Mick Kern of
- 23:29Speaker 1: Sirius XM, NHL Network Radio and under Review, one of
- 23:33Speaker 1: my appointment listens, by the way in the morning. He
- 23:36Speaker 1: does a fantastic job. Mick Kello, nearly happy break to you.
- 23:40Speaker 1: How are you holding up right now?
- 23:42Speaker 7: Well, you know, everyone's looking forward to the Olympics. I'm
- 23:46Speaker 7: like the exception. I'll watch it, especially the men's and
- 23:50Speaker 7: women's hockey. But you know what, Mike, I've really enjoyed
- 23:53Speaker 7: the NHL season. I can't wait till February twenty fifth.
- 23:55Speaker 7: Oh goodness, yeah, when we get going again and all
- 23:58Speaker 7: the teams have a quarter of the season to play
- 24:01Speaker 7: in six and a half weeks.
- 24:02Speaker 1: And we got through this whole January thing and what
- 24:05Speaker 1: just felt like a crunch. It was a blink of
- 24:07Speaker 1: an eye as well. I mean, hey, I'm tired. It's
- 24:09Speaker 1: a good tire though, But that's what January gave us.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Right now, I mean, as we head near it, as
- 24:14Speaker 1: we head nearly into this break, to you the biggest
- 24:17Speaker 1: surprises right now in the standings Eastern and Western Conference?
- 24:21Speaker 2: What are they to you?
- 24:22Speaker 4: Who are you guys? You guys, are a surprise in
- 24:26Speaker 4: the way it up for you right there? I mean
- 24:28Speaker 4: it is.
- 24:29Speaker 7: I got Pittsburgh in the East. I'm not even gonna
- 24:31Speaker 7: say Buffalo. I got Pittsburgh more in the East. We'll
- 24:33Speaker 7: get to them. Let's go with you, guys. This good
- 24:35Speaker 7: players on this team. You know this team better than
- 24:36Speaker 7: I do. There's no superstars on this team, kind of
- 24:40Speaker 7: like Carolina in that way. By the way, Sebastianaho is
- 24:43Speaker 7: a great player. I use superstar very sparingly. Dry Sidle mcannon.
- 24:48Speaker 7: Data hasn't got that guy yet. Don't get him. Eventually,
- 24:50Speaker 7: maybe the trade will, maybe they develop him. Doesn't matter.
- 24:53Speaker 7: This is a well run team, well coached team, good
- 24:55Speaker 7: goaltending and the team construct.
- 24:58Speaker 4: You know, this is one of the.
- 24:59Speaker 7: Most team or into sports. You got to have the
- 25:02Speaker 7: really star players. Maybe Shane writes that guy. Eventually, maybe
- 25:05Speaker 7: he gets shipped out. Who knows. Who knows, But right
- 25:07Speaker 7: now with what we know, Mike, this is a good team.
- 25:10Speaker 7: I saw them here in Toronto and I was like, now,
- 25:12Speaker 7: it's one game, but they're one of the teams. I went,
- 25:16Speaker 7: this's a good team. This is the best Seattle team
- 25:18Speaker 7: I've seen. I know they made the playoffs the second
- 25:20Speaker 7: year of the one hundred points, but then there was
- 25:22Speaker 7: a bit of a regression. I didn't think it was regression.
- 25:24Speaker 7: I thought it was more just back to what they
- 25:25Speaker 7: were as they're developing who they are, and I like
- 25:29Speaker 7: the steps they're on.
- 25:31Speaker 4: It's tough.
- 25:32Speaker 7: That Pacific Division is cuckoo crazy.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yes, it just is.
- 25:36Speaker 7: You guys could finish first, you can finish out of
- 25:38Speaker 7: the playoffs. I do believe you're making the playoffs. I
- 25:42Speaker 7: don't know who's not making it now with La getting
- 25:44Speaker 7: Panera and how can they not be better? How can
- 25:46Speaker 7: their offense you just saw them, how can they not
- 25:48Speaker 7: be better? Edmonton or a conundrum to me, Vegas aren't
- 25:52Speaker 7: going the way they're supposed to. So if we get
- 25:55Speaker 7: to April fifteenth, whatever it is in the Seattle Cracker
- 25:58Speaker 7: in the first place, now, wouldn't be shocked. Back in
- 26:01Speaker 7: October I would have said, Mike, you're crazy.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Where do you then put Lane Lambert and his coaching
- 26:06Speaker 1: job in the Jack Adams conversation with others like John
- 26:09Speaker 1: Cooper and also even Damn Muse in Pittsburgh.
- 26:12Speaker 7: Yeah, great choices. He has to be in the conversation
- 26:15Speaker 7: and he'll get votes. He may not win it, though
- 26:19Speaker 7: he'd be a worthy recipient. Here's the thing about that trophy.
- 26:22Speaker 7: You know this, Mike, Every year seven eight to nine
- 26:25Speaker 7: guys are legitimate winners of that thing. We tend to
- 26:29Speaker 7: go towards the guys who bring the team from nowhere up.
- 26:31Speaker 7: So that's why John Cooper never wins it. And I
- 26:33Speaker 7: think he's done a really good job this year with
- 26:35Speaker 7: that team, an aging team, chalk fall of Hall of
- 26:38Speaker 7: famers who have also had injury problems, so I think
- 26:41Speaker 7: he might be the odds on favorite. There's sentimentality in
- 26:44Speaker 7: there too that shouldn't be a factor, but we're human.
- 26:46Speaker 7: But I think Lambert and his staff have done an
- 26:49Speaker 7: excellent job and they just see that's quietly there right now.
- 26:54Speaker 7: And this is the learning curve of an expansion franchise.
- 26:58Speaker 7: Vegas blew that out out of the water the great exception.
- 27:01Speaker 7: This is more of a typical sort of Frans And
- 27:03Speaker 7: again you made the playoffs second year. That doesn't happen
- 27:06Speaker 7: very often. I like the path this team is on
- 27:09Speaker 7: the trajectory. And my look what Montreal is doing right now?
- 27:13Speaker 7: Are they gonna make They're a little further ahead of
- 27:15Speaker 7: Seattle right now, not point wise necessarily, but I think
- 27:18Speaker 7: in development with young guys. But Montreals are saying Ken
- 27:23Speaker 7: Hughes and that are saying, we'll take a trade, We'll
- 27:25Speaker 7: get someone if we like it. This is a long
- 27:27Speaker 7: term thing. We're not going to put the foot on
- 27:30Speaker 7: the accelery just because the fans in the media want
- 27:32Speaker 7: us to. I say the same thing for the Kraken.
- 27:34Speaker 7: You want to be you want to be a legitimate
- 27:36Speaker 7: contender for say a ten year window. You just don't
- 27:40Speaker 7: want to take one run unless you think you're right there.
- 27:42Speaker 7: And most teams stret Colorado's there, Dallas are there, Carolina's there.
- 27:45Speaker 7: I can see Carolina doing that, but in the case
- 27:48Speaker 7: of a team like Seattle, I take my time. It
- 27:50Speaker 7: can be frustrating for fans, but I do believe you
- 27:52Speaker 7: guys make the playoffs and can easily win around you too.
- 27:57Speaker 7: You may find yourself in the Western Conference final before
- 27:59Speaker 7: you know it. Don't get too excited, folks, but I
- 28:02Speaker 7: haven't seen anyone from the Pacific that tells me they're
- 28:06Speaker 7: that much better than Seattle. I do believe Colorado, Dallas,
- 28:09Speaker 7: and Minnesota, in whichever order. Colorado's come back a bit.
- 28:12Speaker 7: I believe they're the top three teams in the West.
- 28:14Speaker 7: After that, who wants to be the fourth best could
- 28:17Speaker 7: be Seattle.
- 28:17Speaker 1: What did you take away from the trade the Kings
- 28:20Speaker 1: did for ur Timmy Paneren and what was all going
- 28:22Speaker 1: on around the outer edges with that?
- 28:24Speaker 7: Mick I thought it was a great move for the
- 28:25Speaker 7: Kings because he's going to improve their pop gun offense.
- 28:29Speaker 7: They were like twenty ninth and scoring something like thirtieth
- 28:31Speaker 7: of the power play. It's in that, it's in the
- 28:33Speaker 7: basement and they've been terrible. Went home a reversal of
- 28:37Speaker 7: last year. Right, you just saw them. They can play
- 28:40Speaker 7: some good defense. They needed that injection. And now here's
- 28:46Speaker 7: the thing. He's only there for two more years. He's
- 28:47Speaker 7: what thirty four, He's still producing at a high level.
- 28:50Speaker 7: He's over a point per game guy for a bad
- 28:51Speaker 7: Rangers team. So I thought for the Kings, why not where.
- 28:56Speaker 4: He wanted to go.
- 28:56Speaker 7: Apparently he wanted to go a couple other places it
- 28:58Speaker 7: didn't work out. So next was on Seattle, where inst
- 29:01Speaker 7: it didn't work. Okay, it would have been a great
- 29:03Speaker 7: pickup for the same reasons because if he doesn't work out,
- 29:06Speaker 7: you only got two more years and then you can
- 29:08Speaker 7: say goodbye. I kind of like that contract for LA
- 29:11Speaker 7: I like it for the Rangers. We took calls this morning, Mike,
- 29:13Speaker 7: Peter Burs and I and Ranger fans. For the most part,
- 29:16Speaker 7: they were split. They were whining or not getting enough.
- 29:18Speaker 2: You get plenty of Ranger fans, don't you into your show,
- 29:21Speaker 2: the fan base.
- 29:23Speaker 4: And they're great.
- 29:24Speaker 7: But as you know, he could have walked for nothing.
- 29:26Speaker 7: So at least you got a prospect who was the
- 29:28Speaker 7: first round pick. We'll see how he develops. He's not
- 29:31Speaker 7: going to be another Peneran, okay, but let's give it time.
- 29:34Speaker 7: Probably not you got some draft picks. It's all part
- 29:37Speaker 7: of starting to do the overturn of the Rangers. And
- 29:40Speaker 7: I look at it this way, Mike, unless you're in
- 29:42Speaker 7: the precipice of winning a cup going very far, which
- 29:45Speaker 7: to me is a conference final, or like Buffalo, who
- 29:48Speaker 7: haven't been in the playoffs now for fourteen counting fifteen seasons.
- 29:53Speaker 7: And why would you trade Tuck if he's not going
- 29:55Speaker 7: to be there? No, I keep him because I think
- 29:56Speaker 7: for that franchise, for the fans, it's imperative them the playoffs.
- 30:01Speaker 7: Except for those instances, I always want something for somebody.
- 30:05Speaker 7: So I think the Rangers maximize what they could Paneron
- 30:08Speaker 7: had the no movement, no trade, whatever it was, they.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Gave it to him.
- 30:11Speaker 7: He's using it. We can't get mad at him. I'd
- 30:13Speaker 7: use it if I had it. Yeah, So he implemented
- 30:16Speaker 7: what was given to him rightfully, and so I thought
- 30:19Speaker 7: the Rangers, with their backs against the wall, did as
- 30:21Speaker 7: good as they were gonna do. It beats getting zimple.
- 30:25Speaker 1: It feels like once we get out of this Olympic break,
- 30:27Speaker 1: the trade deadline is going to hit us right in
- 30:29Speaker 1: the face. And it's almost kind of like two of two,
- 30:31Speaker 1: because we had the first one effectively here before the
- 30:33Speaker 1: Olympic break, and now the freeze is underway, and then
- 30:36Speaker 1: this next one's going to be coming up just several
- 30:38Speaker 1: days once after teams get right back to break. I mean,
- 30:41Speaker 1: there are plenty of names out there the crack and
- 30:43Speaker 1: want to acquire, maybe that they also ship out reportedly here.
- 30:46Speaker 2: But i'll throw three names out you here.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Robert Thomas, Elias Peterson, Jordan Cayrou likeliest to get moved
- 30:54Speaker 1: you think by a trade deadline as who.
- 30:56Speaker 7: Okay, I won't answer like this because I don't know.
- 30:59Speaker 7: I'll tell you who I would take. Robert Thomas. I
- 31:02Speaker 7: like him as a player. I think he's going through
- 31:04Speaker 7: some injuries right now. But this is a Saint Louis
- 31:06Speaker 7: team that has disappointed me this year. I thought after
- 31:09Speaker 7: they they got into the playoffs and just barely misbeating
- 31:13Speaker 7: Winnipeg like by the fitnest of margins, right, I thought
- 31:16Speaker 7: they were going to go forward. I think I think
- 31:18Speaker 7: every Doug, Armstrong and Coup are surprised how they just
- 31:21Speaker 7: have kind of just they've just gone backwards, and I
- 31:24Speaker 7: think there's some changes necessary. I think Robert Thomas is
- 31:27Speaker 7: a heck of a player, and I think you'd have
- 31:29Speaker 7: to give up a little more to get him than
- 31:31Speaker 7: Panerin because of the situation. But I think there's going
- 31:34Speaker 7: to be more suitors. Patterson is an enigma.
- 31:37Speaker 4: As you know.
- 31:38Speaker 7: We saw how good ped was for when he got
- 31:40Speaker 7: a hundred points and how good number forty was, and
- 31:43Speaker 7: we've seen a regression in that on and off the ice.
- 31:46Speaker 7: These people are not staffed and not hockey cars. As
- 31:48Speaker 7: I always say, maybe he needs a fresh start to
- 31:52Speaker 7: He'd be intriguing because somebody will think they can still
- 31:55Speaker 7: drill down and get that. Maybe he's not one hundred
- 31:57Speaker 7: points again, Mike, maybe he's eighty five or ninety. Card
- 32:00Speaker 7: is a good player too. That's another guy I like.
- 32:02Speaker 7: But of the three, I would want Thomas personally.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Mccurran joining us here from sirius XM NHL Network Radio
- 32:09Speaker 1: as a part of under Review right now here on
- 32:11Speaker 1: the Beacon Plumbing Hotline, Mick, I want to touch on
- 32:13Speaker 1: the Eastern Conference as well. You tease us about a
- 32:15Speaker 1: few minutes ago. I mean Tampa Bay with what John
- 32:18Speaker 1: Cooper's doing, no surprise, they're in first place. Carolina, what
- 32:20Speaker 1: they're doing, no surprise once again. But I mean the
- 32:23Speaker 1: whole Pittsburgh factor in Dan Muse and then you have
- 32:26Speaker 1: the Buffalo Sabers once they.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Made that GM change.
- 32:30Speaker 1: My goodness, I can't help but think with what Pittsburgh
- 32:33Speaker 1: still has intact with Crosby, Malkin, Chris Latang. I just
- 32:39Speaker 1: can't help but think that they're gonna make it. But
- 32:42Speaker 1: what do we make out of them versus say Buffalo
- 32:44Speaker 1: if the Sabers get in. As far as who might
- 32:46Speaker 1: be the scarier matchup, you think.
- 32:48Speaker 7: Pittspurghive to find all my expectations. They haven't made the
- 32:51Speaker 7: playoffs in three years. Say I'm going to playoffs herees
- 32:52Speaker 7: I think since twenty eighteen, so that's still to be seen.
- 32:56Speaker 7: We know Crosby's won for the Ages. We know that
- 32:58Speaker 7: Malkins having our a renaissance season. Some of the young
- 33:03Speaker 7: guys have stepped up. The coaching is good. Kyle Duvis
- 33:06Speaker 7: the GM, I think he's got hisins in the rebuild.
- 33:08Speaker 7: Maybe this is a bit of a pleasant surprise. Stuart
- 33:12Speaker 7: Skinner looks good, he looks rejuvenated. He needed to get
- 33:15Speaker 7: out of Edmonton, which is funny because Edmonton's goaltending doesn't
- 33:17Speaker 7: look so good right now, right and right now, Stuart
- 33:20Speaker 7: Skinner looks better in Pittsburgh than Jerry does in Edmonton.
- 33:22Speaker 7: But that's a whole that's a whole defense thing. But
- 33:24Speaker 7: you know how they work. Pittsburgh's a surprise to me
- 33:28Speaker 7: because I'm waiting here it hidding my head called Win's
- 33:31Speaker 7: Buffalo going to be good. Look at Buffalo's lineup. Rasmus
- 33:34Speaker 7: Dallen is one of the best defensemen in the league
- 33:36Speaker 7: and talking, and Tate Thompson is an amazing player, like
- 33:39Speaker 7: the big t Colin. He's just a good player. There's
- 33:41Speaker 7: so much talent on that roster. Owen Power still hasn't
- 33:44Speaker 7: found his full game yet and he's going to and
- 33:47Speaker 7: they've got good goaltenders.
- 33:48Speaker 4: They just need to work it out.
- 33:49Speaker 7: And Devin Leeve, I can't even make the team right now,
- 33:51Speaker 7: down on the minors. He's going to be good, I think,
- 33:54Speaker 7: so I expect him finally to get good. I thought
- 33:56Speaker 7: Pittsburgh were going the other way. So to me, that's
- 33:58Speaker 7: why Pittsburgh's a bigger surprise. Buffalo has been a surprise
- 34:01Speaker 7: because suddenly they went on this elongated winning street. We
- 34:04Speaker 7: saw the Ducks do that. We see all the teams
- 34:06Speaker 7: that we go, yeah, whatever, and the Ducks then slid back.
- 34:09Speaker 7: Now they're back again. You know this full well, Bubble
- 34:11Speaker 7: didn't do that. They just kept winning and winning and winning.
- 34:14Speaker 7: They went all the way up from like second last
- 34:16Speaker 7: place all the way up to fighting for first place.
- 34:18Speaker 7: You can hear that alarm in my apartment when the
- 34:21Speaker 7: alarms excided. They're just testing the fire alarm. Don't worry, folks,
- 34:24Speaker 7: They're getting ready for the playoffs. That's what's going to
- 34:26Speaker 7: sound like when Buffalo scores goals. I think the Sabers
- 34:29Speaker 7: being in the playoffs will be a very exciting thing.
- 34:32Speaker 7: On that same note, I think Detroit has got to
- 34:35Speaker 7: be mentioned too, because I think they're going to also
- 34:37Speaker 7: break that gap. Interesting when I mentioned Detroit, the sound
- 34:41Speaker 7: went away. Maybe they're hiring up. I think Detroit are
- 34:45Speaker 7: the real deal. I think they're making I think Buffalo's
- 34:47Speaker 7: making it. Those are surprise teams, but you know this
- 34:51Speaker 7: mic for every good surprise, there's got to be it's
- 34:53Speaker 7: got to be a balance. Look how disappointing the Leafs
- 34:56Speaker 7: have been.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Goodness, and they looked awful here last week.
- 35:00Speaker 1: They looked absolutely out of Saint out of touch.
- 35:04Speaker 7: Yeah, and they just beat Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. They
- 35:06Speaker 7: ten two of the the least teams no offense, Vancouver
- 35:10Speaker 7: and Calgary Calgary Triceard and they always need to do
- 35:12Speaker 7: well in Edmonton. The key for them be coming out
- 35:15Speaker 7: of the break. They're gonna play twice in Florida, then
- 35:16Speaker 7: they're here on the twenty eighth. I'm going to the game.
- 35:19Speaker 7: Ottawa's in town. Ottawa still thinks they can make the playoffs.
- 35:22Speaker 7: There's a whole lot of teams just like the West
- 35:24Speaker 7: in the East who MIC are bubbling three or four
- 35:27Speaker 7: points under. But I really believe Columbus are the team
- 35:30Speaker 7: right now. They've done everything they needed to do. They
- 35:33Speaker 7: got through the quote unquote easy part of the schedule
- 35:35Speaker 7: and won every game, Mike, they won every game. They
- 35:38Speaker 7: won what eight in row.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Whatever it is.
- 35:40Speaker 7: They're nine to one in their past ten or ten.
- 35:42Speaker 7: They're ten and one since Rick Bonus took over. I
- 35:44Speaker 7: think that's the stat. So suddenly they're right behind the Islanders.
- 35:48Speaker 7: They're closer to the Mets third spot than the wild card.
- 35:51Speaker 7: It's gonna be a crazy six and a half weeks.
- 35:54Speaker 7: You're gonna be calling your team who are going to
- 35:56Speaker 7: the playoffs and you're gonna be scoreboard watching like you've
- 35:58Speaker 7: never watched before.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Mine who's the scarier I think challenge right now in
- 36:04Speaker 1: the Pacific Division as far as the crack and two
- 36:07Speaker 1: get in. Is it more of the kings panerin? But
- 36:10Speaker 1: yet still they're scoring questions elsewhere? Is it Anaheim who
- 36:14Speaker 1: is young, they have firepower, but defensive issues still or
- 36:17Speaker 1: is it San Jose nearly in that same boat and
- 36:19Speaker 1: they've been taking a slide, but yet we know what
- 36:21Speaker 1: Celebrini can do.
- 36:23Speaker 7: Celebrini's is a superstar already second year in. He's a superstar.
- 36:26Speaker 7: I mean, I don't say that often, but he is.
- 36:31Speaker 7: I'll answer it this way. I believe Vegas and Edmonton
- 36:33Speaker 7: still make the playoffs. I believe Seattle makes the playoffs.
- 36:36Speaker 7: I believe Utah makes the playoffs, not the same division
- 36:38Speaker 7: but the same conference. But there'll be a wildcard because
- 36:41Speaker 7: they're not going to get to the top three. So
- 36:44Speaker 7: suddenly that leaves one playoffs bought left. I believe Saddle's in,
- 36:49Speaker 7: and I think Anaheim's gonna take it, I think, but
- 36:52Speaker 7: I think Sales's just gonna miss. But what a step
- 36:56Speaker 7: forward they've taken. If they miss it's it's going to
- 36:58Speaker 7: be a disappointment. But like again, back in October, we
- 37:01Speaker 7: wouldn't have said Santo's fighting for a playoff spot. We
- 37:03Speaker 7: wouldn't have So it's an advancement. How do they build
- 37:06Speaker 7: on that? I think the trick will be between you guys,
- 37:09Speaker 7: So I think you make it, you got you could
- 37:11Speaker 7: be first, you guys and Anaheim. It's gonna be what
- 37:14Speaker 7: does Pineren do for the Kings and how does that
- 37:17Speaker 7: upgrade their game? Man and and and as my my
- 37:22Speaker 7: co host Peter Burr said, do other teams make a
- 37:25Speaker 7: corresponding move? Because they got the arms race now and
- 37:28Speaker 7: they've got this guy.
- 37:29Speaker 1: The Orders, the Orders are just kind of blood.
- 37:34Speaker 7: We talk about the Least being blood. The Orders have
- 37:35Speaker 7: the same record. If the Orders were in the tough
- 37:38Speaker 7: Atlantic right now, which is crazy. Every team's good in
- 37:40Speaker 7: that division, but yeah, it's just crazy, then they wouldn't
- 37:45Speaker 7: even be in the playoff picture. The Least would be
- 37:47Speaker 7: fighting for first place in the Pacific. That's just it's cyclical,
- 37:50Speaker 7: it's how it goes. So I think in whatever order,
- 37:54Speaker 7: it's going to be Vegas, Seattle, Edmonton in the playoffs,
- 37:58Speaker 7: and I and and I think Utah's taking a spot.
- 38:01Speaker 7: So what there are I think there's one spot left
- 38:03Speaker 7: for the other teams. I don't know, gonna be fun.
- 38:06Speaker 1: What are you banking on more for the Olympics, Canada
- 38:09Speaker 1: versus US or somebody else like Sweden or Finland's taking
- 38:12Speaker 1: it into the gold medal game?
- 38:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, look, we want Canada US. There's some
- 38:17Speaker 7: political tensions now, but Canada US will.
- 38:19Speaker 4: Always be friends.
- 38:19Speaker 7: We'll get over this.
- 38:20Speaker 4: We will get over this.
- 38:21Speaker 7: Half my family's American. I love the States. You know
- 38:24Speaker 7: that we'll get over it. But we have a good
- 38:26Speaker 7: rivalry too. We can We're like brothers. We can fight,
- 38:29Speaker 7: but we get along in the end. So we all
- 38:31Speaker 7: want Canada US. But you know, Sweden is a good team.
- 38:35Speaker 7: And wouldn't it be something with Sweden and Chechia in
- 38:37Speaker 7: the flying We're all going what happened? But folks, there's
- 38:39Speaker 7: so many great NHLs on those teams. I hope people watch.
- 38:42Speaker 7: In women's hockey, I think it's the US versus Canada
- 38:44Speaker 7: usually is. Other countries are coming along, but I think
- 38:47Speaker 7: the US are the power this year. So I think
- 38:49Speaker 7: the US women are going to get the gold and
- 38:52Speaker 7: it's Canada, US Sweden to me for the men's gold.
- 38:56Speaker 7: I don't even know, you know what it is in
- 38:58Speaker 7: a short tournament. Who it's the bad penalty call? Who's
- 39:01Speaker 7: the goal to the States. Probably shouldn't be Canada on
- 39:04Speaker 7: the Four Nations face off, but mister Bidnington refound his
- 39:07Speaker 7: game and there you go. There's the difference.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Can you imagine if we have another gold medal game
- 39:12Speaker 1: going to overtime like last year in the Four Nations?
- 39:16Speaker 2: My goodness, that was theater, Mick. It was.
- 39:19Speaker 7: It was fun and it was and I loved it
- 39:21Speaker 7: and smite who won. Yeah, I'm cheering for Canada, but
- 39:23Speaker 7: if the State's one, I would have been all right
- 39:25Speaker 7: with that. But you know what, I'm still gonna say
- 39:27Speaker 7: this mic. It's all fun, but I want the NHL back. Yeah,
- 39:29Speaker 7: That's what I'll be looking forward to in February twenty fifth.
- 39:32Speaker 7: Is most of the guys are going to the Bahamas,
- 39:35Speaker 7: the Bermude to rest on the beach, so hanging out
- 39:37Speaker 7: with you. But the stars and superstars they're gonna come back.
- 39:41Speaker 7: They're gonna be drained. Some of those guys maybe a
- 39:43Speaker 7: little off for a couple of games.
- 39:45Speaker 1: Mike, and it's gonna kind of feel like I think,
- 39:47Speaker 1: sloppy October once again, but right back in March, right
- 39:49Speaker 1: where you have structures breaking down, you have players who
- 39:53Speaker 1: are lightlier to get hurt, and all of a sudden,
- 39:54Speaker 1: you know, if you if you make a one wrong
- 39:57Speaker 1: way turn, all of a sudden, boom, it's April and
- 39:59Speaker 1: you got maybe two, three, four games to figure it out.
- 40:03Speaker 7: Oh, it's going to be crazy. You cannot afford and
- 40:06Speaker 7: elongated loose to you can find yourself out of it.
- 40:08Speaker 7: And I think this is going to go right down
- 40:10Speaker 7: to the final nights the NHL season. Who actually gets
- 40:13Speaker 7: in in the lower ashalon's of both conferences and also
- 40:16Speaker 7: seating outside of outside of well, even Colorado's come back
- 40:20Speaker 7: to the pack, that's not even a sure thing. With
- 40:22Speaker 7: Minnesota and Dallas, I think the only sure division. I
- 40:26Speaker 7: think Tampa takes first in the Atlantic, but not by much.
- 40:29Speaker 7: I think Carolina takes first in the met I think
- 40:31Speaker 7: they're clearly the best Metropolitan team.
- 40:33Speaker 1: They certainly know how to play, they know how to skate,
- 40:35Speaker 1: and it's like a sixty minute Cardio hit workout face
- 40:38Speaker 1: and then it feels like any kind of game night here.
- 40:40Speaker 1: But if we go into the break, McKay appreciate this,
- 40:43Speaker 1: keep up the great work once again and looking forward
- 40:46Speaker 1: to hearing from you once more on Under Review folks again.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Find him at sirius X and NHL Network Radio X
- 40:52Speaker 1: and Twitter at x bol Mick as well. Finally, before
- 40:55Speaker 1: we go Florida, Bahamas or other for you for the break.
- 40:59Speaker 7: Well, because we're working this. If I could, you know,
- 41:04Speaker 7: I've been to Bermuda, was beautiful and never been in Mohammas.
- 41:06Speaker 7: But I was in Tampa back in twenty fourteen. We
- 41:10Speaker 7: did the whole we were in Orlando, did the whole
- 41:12Speaker 7: NASA tour, which I'm a rocket guy.
- 41:14Speaker 4: That was fun.
- 41:14Speaker 7: We went to Tampa and when it went to the
- 41:16Speaker 7: Causeway or whatever, it was beautiful there and we went
- 41:19Speaker 7: to see a Raised game against the Astros. Me and
- 41:22Speaker 7: like five other people, I fell in love with the
- 41:24Speaker 7: Tampa Saint Pete area, So I like, I think the
- 41:27Speaker 7: Gulf Coast is for me.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I'm doing the staycation thing right now, but if I
- 41:30Speaker 1: can make it out there Florida sometime at least for
- 41:32Speaker 1: a few a couple of weeks, I'm taking the golf
- 41:34Speaker 1: clubs out there too. I talked to one NHL head
- 41:36Speaker 1: coach about a week ago and he said, I'm taking
- 41:38Speaker 1: the kids right to Florida once we're all done so
- 41:41Speaker 1: by you seriously can't get enough of sunshine and no
- 41:45Speaker 1: matter where you are, But mickay appreciate you. Thanks once
- 41:47Speaker 1: again and to look forward to getting you back on
- 41:48Speaker 1: once again here.
- 41:49Speaker 4: Thank you anytime, Mike.
- 41:51Speaker 1: All right, that's Mick Kurrn joining us. Big thank you again, Mick.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Everga Fitzi's back with us. Next Pull Question reaction mail bag,
- 41:58Speaker 1: three stars and much more right here on Cracking Weekly
- 42:01Speaker 1: on ninety three three KJARFM. All right, let's jump into
- 42:05Speaker 1: it here for the pull question update. And I really
- 42:07Speaker 1: don't think I'm surprised based on what happened to games ago.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Anaheim gets the majority of your vote right now as
- 42:13Speaker 1: far as biggest threat in the Western Conference playoff picture
- 42:15Speaker 1: for the Cracking as far as as concerned, Anaheim with
- 42:18Speaker 1: sixty eight percent of the vote, even with the King's
- 42:21Speaker 1: picking up our Timmy Paneren just two percent of your vote.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Next closest behind Anaheim is Edmonton twenty one percent. So
- 42:29Speaker 1: the Ducks right now a runaway favorite. Yet voting is
- 42:32Speaker 1: still open right now. Go ahead and check it out
- 42:34Speaker 1: at Twitter and xAd Crack in Audio Net for the
- 42:37Speaker 1: Crack and Audio Network pull Question of the Week again.
- 42:40Speaker 1: The biggest threat in the Western Conference playoff picture? Is
- 42:43Speaker 1: it the King's Ducks, Vegas or Edmonton?
- 42:46Speaker 4: What's ever?
- 42:47Speaker 1: I think here biggest threat in this playoff picture the
- 42:50Speaker 1: Kings after they got our Timmy paneren the Ducks right
- 42:53Speaker 1: now with who they have the young firepower, Vegas well
- 42:57Speaker 1: still being Vegas still but yet.
- 42:59Speaker 2: A few whole as well in their game.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Or Edmonton who it seems like one day they are
- 43:05Speaker 1: struggling defensively and then the next day they have McDavid, Dry,
- 43:09Speaker 1: Sidle and Bouchard just going fall blown fifth gear.
- 43:14Speaker 4: You know what right now, I'm going Edmonton. I'm sorry. Anaheim,
- 43:18Speaker 4: the Ducks.
- 43:19Speaker 3: The last two games that the Kraken have played against Anaheim,
- 43:24Speaker 3: you mentioned the word clunker.
- 43:26Speaker 4: The Kraken got off to slow starts.
- 43:28Speaker 3: They're fast, they're skilled, they have that offensive fire power.
- 43:32Speaker 3: They can score in bunches. They're a team that likes
- 43:37Speaker 3: to beat you. We talked about this against the Ducks
- 43:41Speaker 3: the other night. Anaheim. They did not allow Seattle to
- 43:46Speaker 3: get to their game hardly at all cracking, like the
- 43:49Speaker 3: slow things down on their breakouts, take their time reloading
- 43:52Speaker 3: the neutral zone. Anaheim, there was a lot of flushing
- 43:54Speaker 3: from behind the net. There's a lot of pressuring, a
- 43:56Speaker 3: very aggressive for check. Also when the Ducks broke out
- 43:59Speaker 3: it there's zone they use the boards a lot trying
- 44:01Speaker 3: to catch seattle against the wall. So that speed really,
- 44:06Speaker 3: I thought, has hindered the Kraken in recent games. A
- 44:10Speaker 3: four to two loss back on the twenty third, or
- 44:12Speaker 3: four to two loss a couple of nights ago on Tuesday.
- 44:15Speaker 4: So for me, I think the biggest hill to.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Climb, based on what I've seen in the last you know,
- 44:21Speaker 3: ten to fifteen games, is the Anaheim Ducks.
- 44:25Speaker 1: We're gonna get to some more Olympic reaction with again
- 44:28Speaker 1: Philip Grubauer, Acoppocco, Ellie Tolven and Oscar Fisco Mulgard among
- 44:32Speaker 1: the cracking players go into the Winter Olympics here. But
- 44:36Speaker 1: before that, our mail bag segment once again, you can
- 44:38Speaker 1: find me at Twitter and ex at Benton Underscore.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Mike. I'm gonna jump into this one.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Here from Curtis and I'll take the lead on this,
- 44:44Speaker 1: what do you think the Krakens pursuit of thirty four
- 44:47Speaker 1: year old ur Timmy Panarin says about where the Kraken
- 44:51Speaker 1: brass feels about where this team is at.
- 44:54Speaker 2: And then if it's I'll let you take this away.
- 44:56Speaker 1: As far as what you're understanding is of this here,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back and reference my opening thoughts here.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Of this, it's pretty clear cut they are a buyer
- 45:03Speaker 1: at this point. And for this reason, playoffs mean theater.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Theater means more eyeballs, and eyeballs as well are better
- 45:11Speaker 1: here long term for business.
- 45:13Speaker 2: And adding on to this, I understand where so many.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Where a few folks will say, well, you know what
- 45:19Speaker 1: you have to build here for the long term future,
- 45:21Speaker 1: why not go ahead and just tear it down?
- 45:23Speaker 2: No matter where you're at right now. In this playoff picture.
- 45:26Speaker 1: The Kraken aren't as far as other teams, like say
- 45:29Speaker 1: where San Jose was accruing about twenty five plus years
- 45:33Speaker 1: in the NHL, Anaheim roughly twenty five plus years in
- 45:36Speaker 1: the NHL, where you have equity where you can go
- 45:39Speaker 1: ahead and go through a long term teardown, build that
- 45:42Speaker 1: team back up, because again we saw how many empty
- 45:46Speaker 1: seats were in San Jose and definitely in Anaheim when
- 45:49Speaker 1: they were going through all of this the crack and
- 45:52Speaker 1: are in a very unique spot and in a very
- 45:54Speaker 1: different spot as well. Playoffs again mean eyeballs. Eyeballs mean attention,
- 45:59Speaker 1: and attention as well is very good for business here
- 46:02Speaker 1: at this point, so it's easy to understand why reportedly
- 46:05Speaker 1: they have been making strikes to add again a top
- 46:08Speaker 1: line forward here for this lineup and supplement players like
- 46:12Speaker 1: Matty Beneers, Jared McCann, Jordan Eberley, Chandler Stevenson, etc.
- 46:17Speaker 4: Etc.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Even Bertley Catton, who has found his way in this
- 46:20Speaker 1: lineup when healthy amongst a pretty solid veteran core.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I think the same again this organization.
- 46:32Speaker 3: You know, Ron Francis now, Jason boscherl ownership, Todd LWICKI,
- 46:35Speaker 3: every one of the top They have been saying that
- 46:38Speaker 3: we want to add, We're going to be aggressive, and
- 46:40Speaker 3: I think that pursuit of our Temipenerian shows that. However,
- 46:45Speaker 3: I am perfectly fine, and this is my opinion.
- 46:50Speaker 4: I'm giving my opinion here.
- 46:52Speaker 3: I am fine with the Kraken not landing Panerin for
- 46:57Speaker 3: a couple of reasons. I think number one. Yes, he
- 47:01Speaker 3: is a very good player. He is a very strong
- 47:06Speaker 3: offensive player, but he's thirty four years old, and I
- 47:11Speaker 3: don't know if I was ready to commit the long
- 47:15Speaker 3: term deal that he wanted, the money that he wanted
- 47:20Speaker 3: for a player who is thirty four years old.
- 47:23Speaker 4: You know, you look at his last couple of seasons.
- 47:25Speaker 3: He had eighty nine points last year, one hundred and
- 47:27Speaker 3: twenty points last year, ninety two and ninety six.
- 47:30Speaker 4: So he's gone on.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Four straight years of eighty nine or more points, eighty
- 47:36Speaker 3: points at least in three seven of his last ten years.
- 47:42Speaker 3: So again, yes, he's continuing to score and produce at
- 47:45Speaker 3: a high level, but it's that number then he he's
- 47:48Speaker 3: thirty four that scares me. And then that eleven million
- 47:51Speaker 3: dollars and the kraken you know, allegedly from what you
- 47:55Speaker 3: read unofficially from around the hockey world, the pundits, you know,
- 48:00Speaker 3: the crack and offered north of twelve and then they
- 48:03Speaker 3: offered north of three to four years.
- 48:05Speaker 4: That's a little rich for me. I'm okay with them
- 48:08Speaker 4: not pulling the trigger on that.
- 48:10Speaker 3: A couple of other players whose names have been floated
- 48:13Speaker 3: around there, I understand that our temmy Paneren is that
- 48:17Speaker 3: dynamic forward that.
- 48:18Speaker 4: This team has been looking for.
- 48:19Speaker 3: But if the Kraken were in a position to make
- 48:23Speaker 3: the playoffs and to go on a deep run and
- 48:25Speaker 3: to win a Cup in the next couple of years, okay,
- 48:29Speaker 3: maybe I can see it. But where this team is
- 48:31Speaker 3: right now in their development, in their maguration, I don't
- 48:34Speaker 3: know if he fits that mold of what this team's
- 48:37Speaker 3: trying to do.
- 48:37Speaker 1: There's a certain type of ad in other words, they
- 48:40Speaker 1: have to go after, and he doesn't kind of fit.
- 48:43Speaker 2: In that sweet spot, if you will.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Because Panera was apparently an ad because again reports were
- 48:48Speaker 1: out there that he wanted Florida, he wanted Tampa Bay,
- 48:51Speaker 1: and there was a good mutual fit because they're in
- 48:53Speaker 1: a different tier than where the Crack and are at
- 48:54Speaker 1: right now as far as playoffs, and they're in a
- 48:57Speaker 1: must win now situation, just like you know saying you
- 49:00Speaker 1: know Vegas is, Edmonton is the Kings think they're there.
- 49:04Speaker 1: There are discussions whether if they're truly there or not.
- 49:06Speaker 1: But again, it is a star driven market and pen
- 49:08Speaker 1: aren't kind of set the bar for himself on that one.
- 49:10Speaker 1: But you know, you do want to add but I
- 49:13Speaker 1: think ad within the realm of cash, where is it
- 49:16Speaker 1: going to make your team better but not take away
- 49:19Speaker 1: too much from what you have now.
- 49:21Speaker 3: And that said, listen, I'm all for the big splash
- 49:24Speaker 3: you and I were talking about on the road trip.
- 49:27Speaker 3: You know, we brought up the names of a Robert Thomas,
- 49:30Speaker 3: of a of ad Jason Robertson players like that. I
- 49:33Speaker 3: am all for making a big splash, but I do
- 49:36Speaker 3: feel like for where this team is right now, you
- 49:41Speaker 3: know you're right, you need a guy that fits the
- 49:43Speaker 3: certain mold of what you're trying to do here. And
- 49:46Speaker 3: also too, I think our Timmy pitarian is a guy
- 49:50Speaker 3: he needs a lot of high end skill around him
- 49:55Speaker 3: to play around him.
- 49:57Speaker 4: And again this is a fact the Kraken.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Just don't have that high level skill that maybe other
- 50:07Speaker 3: teams have.
- 50:07Speaker 4: And that's okay.
- 50:08Speaker 3: This is a hard working, grinding team. I've never known
- 50:12Speaker 3: our Timmy Panairen to be, you know, a grinding type
- 50:16Speaker 3: of player. There. There might need to be a few
- 50:18Speaker 3: nights where you're you're not gonna get a lot of touches,
- 50:20Speaker 3: you know what I mean. So again, like I said,
- 50:23Speaker 3: I'm okay with the Kraken not making this move and
- 50:27Speaker 3: that that that you know and and or I guess
- 50:30Speaker 3: he didn't choose Seattle, and that's okay for me. But
- 50:33Speaker 3: that doesn't that doesn't say that Jason Botrel isn't going
- 50:38Speaker 3: to still try and swing for the fences here and again,
- 50:41Speaker 3: depending on who who you listen.
- 50:44Speaker 4: To and who you talk to around the league, the Kraken,
- 50:47Speaker 4: you know.
- 50:47Speaker 3: They want a big h what do they say, franchise
- 50:51Speaker 3: altering player. That's the phrase we keep hearing from all
- 50:55Speaker 3: the TSN guys, all the Elliott Friedman's of the world,
- 50:59Speaker 3: you know, those type of guys. That is who the
- 51:02Speaker 3: Kraken you know, are going after. Recording to those quote
- 51:06Speaker 3: unquote industry insiders, all.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Right, question here from Jim asking what do the players
- 51:11Speaker 1: not playing in the Olympics do during the break? Is
- 51:15Speaker 1: there a risk of getting out of shape? That from
- 51:17Speaker 1: Jim on Twitter and x crack and we'll have Coppocaco,
- 51:21Speaker 1: Ellie Tulveden both out to Finland, Philip Grubauer, who should
- 51:25Speaker 1: be the starting goalie for Team Germany, Oscar Fiskra Mulgard
- 51:28Speaker 1: and a potential top nine, maybe top six roll perhaps
- 51:32Speaker 1: with Team Denmark as well. But for everybody else. I mean,
- 51:36Speaker 1: there's not much time to let loose too much. Roughly,
- 51:39Speaker 1: you will have a two week break to relax, unwine, recover,
- 51:42Speaker 1: recapture what was lost as far as energy and stamina
- 51:45Speaker 1: from what was nineteen games in thirty five days. So
- 51:49Speaker 1: you go into the break right now with some good momentum.
- 51:52Speaker 1: But this is where you find balance from a busy
- 51:54Speaker 1: month of January. Players go into exotic locations. You know,
- 51:58Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if there is you know, some
- 52:00Speaker 1: Mexico on the menu, some Hawaii on the menu, some
- 52:03Speaker 1: outer islands as well on the menu, but enough to
- 52:06Speaker 1: kind of get back what you lost as far as stamina,
- 52:10Speaker 1: you know, get some well deserved vitamin D from there.
- 52:13Speaker 2: It's good medicine.
- 52:14Speaker 1: And then you come back Catri here because there's gonna
- 52:16Speaker 1: be a few days of practice.
- 52:17Speaker 2: To get the mind back, get the legs back.
- 52:20Speaker 1: So it's willing into before the crack and get back
- 52:22Speaker 1: into it with back to back at Dallas and Saint Louis.
- 52:24Speaker 4: I want to I want to turn that question back
- 52:26Speaker 4: was Jim. Jim Will asked the question, Yes, yeah, I
- 52:29Speaker 4: want to turn that back on Jim.
- 52:30Speaker 3: Hey, Jim, what did you do when you were a
- 52:33Speaker 3: mid twenties single something on vacation.
- 52:37Speaker 4: That's what they're going to be.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Doing as mid twenties single something's on vacation with a
- 52:41Speaker 3: couple of days off of hockey.
- 52:44Speaker 4: No, I guys during the break, You're right, Mike, I mean,
- 52:48Speaker 4: this isn't summer vacation. You got a week you.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Know, you're probably gonna you know, a couple of guys
- 52:53Speaker 3: are gonna they're they're gonna travel together, They're gonna go
- 52:55Speaker 3: out of town. I know a lot of guys with
- 52:57Speaker 3: families are gonna they're gonna finally be able to be
- 52:59Speaker 3: dad and husband at home and do things with their kids.
- 53:03Speaker 3: You know, so they still understand what is at stake.
- 53:08Speaker 3: They still have their eye on the prize. The NHL
- 53:11Speaker 3: is so unique. We are the only sport that has
- 53:15Speaker 3: a multiple week break within their season. No other sport
- 53:22Speaker 3: has two weeks off, three weeks off in their season,
- 53:25Speaker 3: and we're doing it every two years. Because you've got
- 53:27Speaker 3: the World Cup of Hockey or the Four Nations, whatever
- 53:29Speaker 3: you want to call it, coming back, and then now
- 53:31Speaker 3: you're going to have the Olympics. You know, I would
- 53:33Speaker 3: be willing to have the argument that on odd I
- 53:38Speaker 3: guess every four years the Olympics should replace the World
- 53:42Speaker 3: Championships and be in the Summer Olympics. Like basketball is
- 53:45Speaker 3: Basketball is in the Summer Olympics. It's a winter sport, right,
- 53:49Speaker 3: Why isn't hockey in the Summer Olympics as well? Because again,
- 53:52Speaker 3: taking three weeks off I think is very hard financially
- 53:56Speaker 3: for a lot of these ownership groups, but also as fans.
- 54:00Speaker 3: You know, you take that throughy break, but they understand
- 54:02Speaker 3: what what the what's that stake here?
- 54:04Speaker 4: But no, there, they're gonna go to an island. They're
- 54:07Speaker 4: gonna go somewhere warm.
- 54:08Speaker 5: Uh.
- 54:08Speaker 4: There's gonna be some umbrellas in their drinks. There's gonna
- 54:11Speaker 4: be some limes in their drinks.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Uh.
- 54:14Speaker 3: And they're gonna they're gonna rest and recuperate, a lot
- 54:16Speaker 3: of therapy tubs, a lot of hot tubs.
- 54:18Speaker 4: A lot of sleeping in.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Maybe they don't wake up at eight am, who knows,
- 54:22Speaker 3: But yeah, just go back to when you were twenty
- 54:24Speaker 3: something and you were going on vacation with your butts.
- 54:27Speaker 4: That's what That's what they're gonna be doing.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Also, don't forget as well, there are teams like Vegas.
- 54:31Speaker 1: There are teams like Los Angeles anywhere between five to
- 54:35Speaker 1: nine players, Tampa Bay you can throw in there. So
- 54:37Speaker 1: I mean it's great once you can pursue a medal,
- 54:39Speaker 1: and a lot of players want to play in these
- 54:41Speaker 1: Olympics here, But what's going to happen in March when
- 54:45Speaker 1: they come back and were facing the same schedule, crush
- 54:47Speaker 1: the crack and only have three full time players if
- 54:50Speaker 1: you know, you count the majority of Fisco Mulgar's time
- 54:53Speaker 1: in Coachella Valley where rest is going to be on
- 54:56Speaker 1: their side once we get right back into this everet Yeah, yeah, no, And.
- 55:00Speaker 3: Listen, that's a very good point that I don't think
- 55:03Speaker 3: people realize is that the Kraken just came off of a.
- 55:06Speaker 4: Seventeen game month of January.
- 55:09Speaker 3: They got thirteen in March, right, So it's not like
- 55:12Speaker 3: it's gonna get any easier. And the Kraken, you know,
- 55:16Speaker 3: with only three full time guys going to the Olympics
- 55:19Speaker 3: and you're knocking on all the wood, you can find
- 55:20Speaker 3: that those two guys come back healthy. Every single year,
- 55:24Speaker 3: someone's going to get hurt. Every Olympic, every four Nations,
- 55:31Speaker 3: every World chant, somebody always gets hurt. I was reading
- 55:35Speaker 3: today that was a Team Finland, the women's side. Team
- 55:39Speaker 3: Finland doesn't have enough players to play against Team Canada
- 55:44Speaker 3: because of the neurrovirus that infected their team. There's like thirteen,
- 55:48Speaker 3: got thirteen ladies on their team. They don't have enough
- 55:52Speaker 3: to fill an entire roster, so they had to postpone
- 55:55Speaker 3: their first game of the Olympics. So someone always always
- 55:58Speaker 3: gets hurt or gets you know. You hear about the
- 56:01Speaker 3: home run derby in baseball, does that ruin their swing?
- 56:05Speaker 3: It didn't for cal Rally this year, thank goodness. But
- 56:07Speaker 3: you know, if you do the home run derby, is
- 56:09Speaker 3: it going to ruin your swing coming.
- 56:10Speaker 4: Back down the second half of the season. So that's
- 56:12Speaker 4: something to keep an eye on.
- 56:14Speaker 3: And I think you're right, Mike, with Vegas having eight
- 56:17Speaker 3: to nine guys, Colorado has all these guys. Most of
- 56:20Speaker 3: Dallas or most of Finland is on Dallas's team.
- 56:23Speaker 4: And you know, I do think.
- 56:25Speaker 3: That that is maybe a silver lining of the Kraken
- 56:29Speaker 3: not having a lot of Olympians that set. I think
- 56:31Speaker 3: down the road we're gonna have a Maddy Vaniers and
- 56:34Speaker 3: a Berkeley Caton and a few other players in Olympic
- 56:37Speaker 3: conversations for years to come. But this season, rest is
- 56:41Speaker 3: a weapon and and the Kraken I think are going
- 56:44Speaker 3: to be one of the more weaponized teams coming out
- 56:47Speaker 3: of the Break again, hoping and assuming that Tol, the
- 56:51Speaker 3: KK and Gruby stay healthy.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Let's get to our three stars before we get out
- 56:56Speaker 1: and finally get to break because Everet's got places to go.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Lego Lands a visit as well.
- 57:00Speaker 1: I got a staycation in a honey due list, maybe
- 57:03Speaker 1: some golf as well thrown.
- 57:04Speaker 4: Into and then we're I have a bed to get
- 57:06Speaker 4: back to.
- 57:06Speaker 1: The Yeah, I've had to throw that in there as
- 57:10Speaker 1: well too. I'm first gonna go with my three stars.
- 57:12Speaker 1: My thirst star is Chandler Stevenson, who had four assists
- 57:16Speaker 1: in the previous two Kracking victories, tied for the team
- 57:19Speaker 1: lead five points since the last show. The delicious Pass
- 57:22Speaker 1: last night he threw Adam Larson again was an embodiment
- 57:26Speaker 1: of the kind of playmaker I think the Krack and
- 57:28Speaker 1: need from him to really fortify their depth heading into
- 57:31Speaker 1: March and into April as well.
- 57:33Speaker 2: The face off circle.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Again has always been a strength of his the Kings game,
- 57:37Speaker 1: he won eleven face offs out of twenty one fifty
- 57:41Speaker 1: two percent.
- 57:42Speaker 2: That is not easy against an i'm J.
- 57:44Speaker 1: Coopepatar led team, or he's getting thrown out with plenty
- 57:47Speaker 1: of draws and cope. Patar was unconscious twenty one of
- 57:50Speaker 1: thirty face offs he won in that game last night.
- 57:53Speaker 1: But the more depth of Cracking can have up and
- 57:56Speaker 1: down their lineup, It's always set in hockey. You have
- 57:58Speaker 1: to have a good spine, which also means your centers
- 58:02Speaker 1: line one to line four. Vaniers is reaching a new tier.
- 58:06Speaker 1: It appears Stevenson is reaching once again a level of
- 58:10Speaker 1: play that where if he can be this productive, the
- 58:13Speaker 1: crack And are going to be a playoff team. And
- 58:14Speaker 1: we saw again some and four goals in the last
- 58:17Speaker 1: week for Shane Wright that deserves mentioned as well. But
- 58:19Speaker 1: I think for Chandler Stevenson, this is where you're starting
- 58:22Speaker 1: to really I think find the savvy and the playoff
- 58:25Speaker 1: experience he's had from previous dips in Washington and Vegas
- 58:29Speaker 1: really kick in. I know for some folks who don't
- 58:31Speaker 1: watch this team day after day and they'll go back
- 58:34Speaker 1: here into the analytics, well again, I want to again,
- 58:37Speaker 1: I want to challenge you watch the game, watch him
- 58:41Speaker 1: shift by shift and what he can do because right
- 58:44Speaker 1: now is no accent that he's also third right now
- 58:47Speaker 1: on this team in scoring where they want to have
- 58:50Speaker 1: depth as a hallmark of their production. Chandler Stevenson is
- 58:53Speaker 1: my third star of this past week. My second star
- 58:56Speaker 1: is Joey Decord, who was brilliant in thatt against Vegas,
- 58:59Speaker 1: brilliant and net once again last night against the Kings.
- 59:02Speaker 2: There have been games.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Previously where he has had to, I think be more
- 59:06Speaker 1: active athletically, but he shook off the goal from Andre
- 59:10Speaker 1: Kuzmenko in period one, which a goal that he might
- 59:13Speaker 1: want to have back, but the Cracker responded and then
- 59:16Speaker 1: you saw Decord once again settled into his game. He
- 59:19Speaker 1: was challenged Glove's side and he answered those challenges and
- 59:22Speaker 1: Joey Decord a big reason why the Crackers were able
- 59:24Speaker 1: to pull out that win over the Kings last night.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Joey Decord two wins against two very challenging Pacific Division opponents,
- 59:33Speaker 1: twenty five saves last night against the Kings. He is
- 59:36Speaker 1: my second star. My first star is Jared McCann as well.
- 59:40Speaker 1: Just passing game seven hundred of his NHL career, anty
- 59:43Speaker 1: was Stevens send five points this last week. Jared McCann
- 59:46Speaker 1: is once again finding a role on this top line
- 59:49Speaker 1: with the Kraken. He has been producing with Matty Beniers
- 59:52Speaker 1: producing here with Jordan Eberley, and the game that he
- 59:56Speaker 1: is right now producing as well says well on his
- 59:59Speaker 1: way to a forty goal type of pace. It's pretty
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: clear that the injury that he had earlier it is
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: well a thing in the past, and McCann right now
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: is going to be a very valuable piece of this
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: playoff run. With sixteen goals in thirty two games as
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: the crack and trying to march here for their second
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: playoff Berth.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Jared McCann is my first star.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you and I are kind of a line here.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: I'm gonna break some rules though. So my third star
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: is going to be Joey Decord three. He's one four
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: to row, three wins in the last week. He's got
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: a two goals against average over his last four games,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: so I mean the two goals in each of his
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: last four wins, So I mean that's been phenomenal. Goaltending
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: has been the best you know, I think part of
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: this team all year long, and and the job that
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: Colin Julianello has done with Philip Grubauer, with Joey Decordtt
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Murray when he comes back healthy.
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: I thought, Joey Decord.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: You need big goaltending this week, and you got it
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: from him.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: So he's my number.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: Three star, the first star of the week of the NHL. Well,
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Jared McCann, he's my second star of the week four Seattle.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: I told you I'm breaking some rules here. I'll tell
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: you why in a second. And again, you're right, Jared McCann.
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: I mean he's proving that that injury is well behind
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: him right now. I mean, Jared McCann, where's my sheet here?
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: So Jared McCann has played in thirty two games this season.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: He has got points in twenty three of those thirty
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: two games this season, currently on a five game point
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: streak with four goals and five assists in that time.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: So he's absolutely crushing it this season.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: Jared McCann's my number two star. My number one star iszizzzzz.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: It is such an honor to represent your country. I'm
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: gonna give Philip Grubauer, Eli Tolven and Coppolocaco and Oscar
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: Fisker moleguard my collective number.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: One star as they send off to the Olympics. I
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: hope they have the best time.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: I hope they soak up this opportunity, enjoy representing your
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: country and your families and your friends and your homelands.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: Of course they're gonna listen to this and take all
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: these words to heart, but those four are my number
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: one star. An Olympics send off to those guys.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Coppocaco scored a very important goal against Vegas as the
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: game winner as well, Ellie Tolbden producing and also with
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: some fine defensive play back in his own zone. And
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: they're gonna support filming a very very important depth role
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: each for them. Philip Grubauer is going to be your
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: starting goaltender. Rind Ap peers here for Team Germany. And
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: then we're gonna look forward to seeing what Oscar Fisco
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Mulgard can do against some elite, world class competition as
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: he tries to make that next step. Then once again
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: turn some attention toward his way after some very good
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: low key play last night against the Kings and thinking
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: about the shot block and then the reaction that the
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: bench had as well and well deserve for the four
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: of them to be going off here to represent the
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: crack and at the Winter Olympics.
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: Yep, it's gonna be great for them.
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: And I listen, I become very very star spangled awesome
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: during the Olympics.
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: Don't ask me why.
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: For whatever reason, I will. I don't care if it's
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: if it's skeet shooting or slalom skiing or whatever. I
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: will watch any and all Olympic coverage that I can find.
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: But individually there will be some loud cheering and fist
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: pumping and high fiving whenever La Tolwin and Oscar Fisker, Mulgard,
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Coppo Cocao and Philip Grubauer do something good for their team.
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: So I'm rooting for those four. I want those guys
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: to do well. You know, I think Finland is in
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: that category of top four.
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: Germany, their schedule is a little bit.
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: I mean, their group is manageable, and I think they've
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: got some pretty good talent on their team. Germany could
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: surprise some people, maybe get to a knockout stage. And
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: you know, Denmark again, it'll be Fisker Mulgar, it'll be
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Oliver b york Strand as well. Good luck to former
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: Crack and Oliver york Strand on that list.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: So you know. But I think Finland and.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: Germany and particularly they can make some noise. But I
