  Speaker 1: One has this beautiful ending. Somebody asked again about what

  Speaker 1: people thought of the ending of Rogue one, and I said,

  Speaker 1: and I'll die on this hill. Should have ended with
• 1:43
  Speaker 1: that shot of Vader iris out and then you know,
• 1:47
  Speaker 1: like the camera moves would match up between Rogue One
• 1:49
  Speaker 1: and A New Hope. It would have been a better
• 1:51
  Speaker 1: flow for me anyway. That then got me to thinking,
• 1:56
  Speaker 1: we also saw the beautiful Murder Express moment where just
• 2:00
  Speaker 1: going through slaughtering everybody on the way to it just
• 2:03
  Speaker 1: every like, no matter what you felt about Rogue one,
• 2:06
  Speaker 1: everybody loves that scene.
• 2:07
  Speaker 3: Everybody thinks it's the greatest.
• 2:09
  Speaker 1: But I paus it to you this now, at the
• 2:12
  Speaker 1: end of A New Hope, Vader's ship is slightly damaged
• 2:16
  Speaker 1: and he writes it and then he flies off into space.
• 2:19
  Speaker 1: Did he have hyperdrive? Was he just able to keep
• 2:22
  Speaker 1: going for the fact that he was a sith lord
• 2:26
  Speaker 1: and he just sustained himself all of those sorts of things.
• 2:29
  Speaker 1: But have we now entered a point where we should
• 2:34
  Speaker 1: be asking ourselves the question of why didn't Vader fly
• 2:38
  Speaker 1: to Yavin four and just start lopping heads off.
• 2:44
  Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good question. I wonder if part of
• 2:47
  Speaker 4: that is, yeah, we saw what Vader could do in
• 2:52
  Speaker 4: the hallway, but you think of the hundreds and possibly
• 2:55
  Speaker 4: thousands of people right that are Yavin most likely thousands
• 2:58
  Speaker 4: at this point, especially what we saw with the end
• 3:01
  Speaker 4: of Rogue one, there's probably at least a thousand people there,
• 3:04
  Speaker 4: if not maybe fifteen hundred or so. And you know,
• 3:07
  Speaker 4: Vader can't take all of them down. You know, we
• 3:10
  Speaker 4: saw at the end of the Clone Wars, right that
• 3:13
  Speaker 4: Jedi Masters were taken down by clones and very few
• 3:20
  Speaker 4: of them survived, right, And so yes, I know Vader
• 3:26
  Speaker 4: has an incredible amount of power and all those type
• 3:28
  Speaker 4: of things, but I don't think that he could take
• 3:32
  Speaker 4: on every single one of the rebels on Yavin four
• 3:36
  Speaker 4: and still live. He might take a lot of them out,
• 3:41
  Speaker 4: But I also wonder, and this is something I would
• 3:47
  Speaker 4: pause it here. I think that the moment that the
• 3:49
  Speaker 4: Death Star is blown up, you know, and then they
• 3:56
  Speaker 4: have the celebration, like I think they abandon Yavin for ever,
• 4:00
  Speaker 4: like never go back because the Empire knows where it is,
• 4:04
  Speaker 4: right sure, so of course, so that that's definitely there.
• 4:07
  Speaker 4: But I mean, he could, I think, have gone to
• 4:10
  Speaker 4: Yavin and cause some some mayhem, for sure, But I'm
• 4:14
  Speaker 4: guessing he just thinks, well, we live to fight another day,
• 4:18
  Speaker 4: you know, we'll we'll take these guys down and we'll
• 4:23
  Speaker 4: figure it out, which probably plays into, you know, something
• 4:28
  Speaker 4: that we see then at the end, at the Empire
• 4:31
  Speaker 4: strikes back right like that, we actually see that the
• 4:35
  Speaker 4: rebels are really struggling.
• 4:38
  Speaker 3: Uh, Well, the fleet is the fleet is still not
• 4:41
  Speaker 3: on Hawth.
• 4:41
  Speaker 1: They've at least learned the lesson after Yavin of not
• 4:44
  Speaker 1: gathering everybody in one place, and and so they have
• 4:47
  Speaker 1: all the different cells out there. And then we later
• 4:51
  Speaker 1: hear there's there's a line that everybody overlooks from Return
• 4:55
  Speaker 1: of the Jedi, what are the reports of the rebel
• 4:56
  Speaker 1: fleet massing near sullist Uh and the Emperor saying it
• 5:00
  Speaker 1: is no concern, right, because of course the Emperor has
• 5:02
  Speaker 1: traps within traps sort of thing going on. But I'm
• 5:05
  Speaker 1: going to county a little bit with the Yavin think
• 5:07
  Speaker 1: because most if we go with continuity here, most everybody
• 5:12
  Speaker 1: who was in the fleet that attacked at Scariff fled.
• 5:17
  Speaker 3: They didn't go back to Yavon for So what was
• 5:20
  Speaker 3: left back at yavin for was.
• 5:24
  Speaker 1: The necessary token force, the people that couldn't leave, the
• 5:28
  Speaker 1: equipment that they couldn't move because it was a snap
• 5:31
  Speaker 1: decision to attack. But and they of course had fighters
• 5:34
  Speaker 1: around and everything like that, but they didn't have everybody.
• 5:38
  Speaker 1: There wasn't actually enough for a large scale assault on
• 5:42
  Speaker 1: the Death Star, and Vader couldn't have landed, gotten out
• 5:49
  Speaker 1: and slowly gone through and like killed everybody. But he
• 5:52
  Speaker 1: could have opened up with some strafing runs. Sure, there
• 5:55
  Speaker 1: weren't enough people there. There weren't enough people there to
• 6:00
  Speaker 1: mount an actual defense of a really gifted pilot, because
• 6:06
  Speaker 1: we've also seen in Rebels that he can show up
• 6:09
  Speaker 1: and take out a small bash of ships, including cruisers
• 6:13
  Speaker 1: without even breaking a sweat, yeah, which would be uncomfortable
• 6:17
  Speaker 1: in all leather.
• 6:18
  Speaker 3: Anyway, I think.
• 6:20
  Speaker 4: He's got a cooling system in there.
• 6:21
  Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure he has to.
• 6:24
  Speaker 1: There's no choice, although I mean, can he even sweat
• 6:26
  Speaker 1: anymore is the question because all were sealed now, so
• 6:29
  Speaker 1: exactly would have been very difficult. But anyway, we digress
• 6:33
  Speaker 1: as usual as usual, So I still like, I think
• 6:38
  Speaker 1: that one way I can get there. Let me throw
• 6:41
  Speaker 1: this idea out at you, is we know that Lucas
• 6:44
  Speaker 1: gets friskier and friskier as the movies go on, playing
• 6:47
  Speaker 1: with figurative time at the end as opposed to literal time.
• 6:51
  Speaker 1: So is it possible that I'm just reading it too literally?
• 6:56
  Speaker 1: Right now that Vader is flying away, then we go
• 6:59
  Speaker 1: back to Yavin what we're actually seeing as we're seeing
• 7:02
  Speaker 1: Vader getting control of his ship after the better part
• 7:05
  Speaker 1: of like six hours or something like that, so the
• 7:07
  Speaker 1: rebels have had time to take a breather and start
• 7:09
  Speaker 1: moving on, and by the time he gets control of
• 7:11
  Speaker 1: his ship, there's no point in him going back because
• 7:13
  Speaker 1: they've already left or they're at least on guard for him.
• 7:16
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 7:16
  Speaker 4: I mean, I also think, you know, with with the
• 7:20
  Speaker 4: Death Star blowing up and Vader being in the vicinity,
• 7:25
  Speaker 4: having a ship that obviously is damaged, you know, I mean,
• 7:28
  Speaker 4: he's knocked out of the trench by the shot that
• 7:33
  Speaker 4: Han Solo takes right with the Falcon, and so both.
• 7:37
  Speaker 1: He's knocked out by he's knocked out by the panicky
• 7:39
  Speaker 1: pilot the shot destroys the tie fighter and then the
• 7:42
  Speaker 1: panicly panicky pilot says yeah, look out, and then yeah,
• 7:45
  Speaker 1: clips him.
• 7:46
  Speaker 3: Right.
• 7:47
  Speaker 4: So, but what I'm saying is those those two, those
• 7:50
  Speaker 4: two things combined. Uh, my guess is that honestly, Vader's
• 7:55
  Speaker 4: ship is damaged two and more damage than we're aware of.

  Speaker 4: So him getting control of it and kind of like
• 8:04
  Speaker 4: limping away what we see is most likely, you know,
• 8:09
  Speaker 4: at that point, him calling for help to come and
• 8:15
  Speaker 4: get him. And again, I think it's for him at
• 8:19
  Speaker 4: that moment. I'm guessing his mindset is survival and making
• 8:25
  Speaker 4: sure he fights another day, and I think he's positive
• 8:29
  Speaker 4: that he's going to be able to do so. But
• 8:33
  Speaker 4: I like the thought honestly that it's his overconfidence is
• 8:39
  Speaker 4: like I'm going to come back bigger and stronger, and
• 8:41
  Speaker 4: I'm going to stamp these people out, which is kind
• 8:44
  Speaker 4: of the attitude I feel like I see in Empire
• 8:47
  Speaker 4: Strikes Back, where he is no holds barred. At that point,
• 8:50
  Speaker 4: he's writing the Executor, right, you know, he's he is
• 8:56
  Speaker 4: in full control, and you know, you know, on See
• 9:00
  Speaker 4: he comes very close to pulling off a major victory
• 9:04
  Speaker 4: on on Hath because he's almost able to catch leah
• 9:09
  Speaker 4: Ann Han. You know, if it wasn't for you know,
• 9:15
  Speaker 4: the falcon being kick started.
• 9:18
  Speaker 3: Those pesky smugglers.
• 9:20
  Speaker 4: So yes, he he wins a major victory there and
• 9:25
  Speaker 4: so and yeah, you know, again the the I'm kind
• 9:31
  Speaker 4: of playing with all the information we have instead of
• 9:35
  Speaker 4: just in that moment. But it's like, yeah, the the
• 9:39
  Speaker 4: the rebels are, you know, they have their fleet in
• 9:43
  Speaker 4: one place, at their base in another right, but they're
• 9:46
  Speaker 4: definitely struggling. They have suffered a lot of losses because
• 9:49
  Speaker 4: of Vader's fury that he has just kind of unleashed
• 9:54
  Speaker 4: for you know, the last what is it, like three
• 9:56
  Speaker 4: years I think has passed something like that, Like that
• 10:00
  Speaker 4: is supposedly what's passed.
• 10:02
  Speaker 3: So yeah, well it's never set on screen. We accepted
• 10:06
  Speaker 3: it now.
• 10:06
  Speaker 1: We just kind of like yeah, because then it was
• 10:11
  Speaker 1: three years between the release of Empire and Jedi, but
• 10:13
  Speaker 1: then we were later told no, it's a one year,
• 10:15
  Speaker 1: and I maintain it's actually kind of instantaneous. But whatever, whatever,
• 10:19
  Speaker 1: the different topic, different day, and I think we've talked
• 10:21
  Speaker 1: about that before. But the thing is, while we're sitting
• 10:25
  Speaker 1: here having this discussion, I'm actually kicking down this idea
• 10:30
  Speaker 1: where Vader goes off. It's not immediate, you know, it's
• 10:34
  Speaker 1: a little bit figurative. Vader's flying off. It's you know,
• 10:37
  Speaker 1: a few hours later, we go back because we want
• 10:38
  Speaker 1: to end with the big victory celebration and everything like that.
• 10:42
  Speaker 1: But Vader goes off. I would love to see on
• 10:47
  Speaker 1: screen animated, maybe the idea that Vader gets back in
• 10:51
  Speaker 1: contact with the fleet faster than we might think he does,
• 10:55
  Speaker 1: and they show up with a fleet to Yea and
• 11:00
  Speaker 1: the rebels have already schedoodled, and we just see the
• 11:04
  Speaker 1: full might of Star Destroyers just pummel the crap out
• 11:08
  Speaker 1: of that moon and basically d forest Yavin Four like
• 11:13
  Speaker 1: whatever happened to Yavin Four after Star Wars. I think
• 11:17
  Speaker 1: that could be an interesting thing where we see that
• 11:19
  Speaker 1: fury you're talking about, where Vader just takes it out
• 11:21
  Speaker 1: on the planet to punish, you know, like he can't
• 11:25
  Speaker 1: destroy them, so he destroys every last vestige of where
• 11:29
  Speaker 1: they hid and stuff like that.
• 11:31
  Speaker 4: Well, it does make me wonder, and I like what
• 11:33
  Speaker 4: you're saying there because what I'm thinking right is that
• 11:38
  Speaker 4: there the opening crawl of Empire makes it pretty clear
• 11:45
  Speaker 4: that they have not had a good three years, right,
• 11:49
  Speaker 4: the rebels they have been on constantly on the run,
• 11:52
  Speaker 4: and you know, hath was their first time in it
• 11:58
  Speaker 4: seemed like forever that they like they might have some
• 12:01
  Speaker 4: sort of a stable situation. And so what you're saying
• 12:05
  Speaker 4: makes me think what we don't see is, you know,
• 12:09
  Speaker 4: Vader calls for help, basically gets the fleet. They might
• 12:14
  Speaker 4: make it off Yavin, but from that moment on, they're
• 12:20
  Speaker 4: just being hunted like dogs, you know, right, I mean,
• 12:23
  Speaker 4: they're just being hunted and it doesn't really end.
• 12:27
  Speaker 2: And so.
• 12:29
  Speaker 4: I think your thought process about Vader calling the fleet
• 12:33
  Speaker 4: and that happening much more quickly than we might think
• 12:35
  Speaker 4: it does, actually makes sense with what we know from Empire.
• 12:40
  Speaker 1: Or maybe there's even because maybe we could even make
• 12:44
  Speaker 1: it more interesting that Vader goes on this hunt and
• 12:47
  Speaker 1: at first he's pummeling planets, but then he realizes somehow
• 12:51
  Speaker 1: or he gets a sense, he hears the name Skywalker, and
• 12:55
  Speaker 1: that's the moment where we switch from pummeling planets and
• 12:58
  Speaker 1: bombardment to add at Walker's and precision strikes. Because that's
• 13:04
  Speaker 1: the thing that people forget about Empire as well, is oh,
• 13:07
  Speaker 1: why did they use these Walkers, they're slow. It's like, well, okay,
• 13:09
  Speaker 1: there's a deflector shield, they have to get under it,
• 13:11
  Speaker 1: all those sorts of things. But additionally, I think Vader
• 13:15
  Speaker 1: knowing he wants to get Luke means he's going to
• 13:18
  Speaker 1: be more restrained in his tactic. He's not going to
• 13:21
  Speaker 1: go scorched Earth on Hawth. He's got to get Luke
• 13:26
  Speaker 1: out of there. He's got to make sure that no
• 13:28
  Speaker 1: matter how bad he pummels them, he leaves space for
• 13:31
  Speaker 1: Skywalker to live. And unless he believes it destroying it,
• 13:39
  Speaker 1: unless he believes that destroying it means that if Luke
• 13:44
  Speaker 1: is meant to survive, he survives, and if he doesn't,
• 13:46
  Speaker 1: he doesn't. So what sort of thing whatever putting that
• 13:50
  Speaker 1: to the side. So I think we're both in agreement
• 13:52
  Speaker 1: that Vader's at least in a position after a new
• 13:58
  Speaker 1: hope at the end not to go back for whatever
• 14:01
  Speaker 1: reason we want to give. Like you said, the Fighter's
• 14:03
  Speaker 1: more damage than we think I would throw out there
• 14:09
  Speaker 1: as well, what do you give Do you give any
• 14:12
  Speaker 1: credence to the thought that once the Death Star is destroyed,
• 14:18
  Speaker 1: that first initial shockwaves shift in the force of the
• 14:22
  Speaker 1: balance between dark and light gets disrupted because at that point,
• 14:27
  Speaker 1: up until Star Wars a New Hope, the Dark Side
• 14:31
  Speaker 1: is very dominant, and then all of a sudden, the
• 14:34
  Speaker 1: scales are thrown out of balance again, and all of
• 14:37
  Speaker 1: a sudden, in that moment, the Light Side becomes resurgent,
• 14:42
  Speaker 1: and maybe Vader feels a little weaker, maybe it weirds
• 14:45
  Speaker 1: them out a little bit. I mean, for all we
• 14:47
  Speaker 1: know that did play a factor. What kind of do
• 14:51
  Speaker 1: you give that any sort of creed?
• 14:53
  Speaker 4: No, I think that's an excellent thought process, right that.
• 14:57
  Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, when we look at the end of
• 15:01
  Speaker 4: Star Wars, Luke is told by Oiwan Kenobi through the
• 15:05
  Speaker 4: Force to use the force, to trust the force, right,
• 15:09
  Speaker 4: and that's exactly what he does, and that's what enables
• 15:12
  Speaker 4: him to take the one in a million shot, that's
• 15:15
  Speaker 4: what helps destroy the Death Star. And I do think
• 15:18
  Speaker 4: in that moment there is a reverberation through the force
• 15:23
  Speaker 4: that Vader can feel, that the Emperor can feel that
• 15:26
  Speaker 4: anybody who's force sensitive would be able to feel, because
• 15:29
  Speaker 4: there has been a shift in that sense. And I
• 15:32
  Speaker 4: think you rightly pinpoint. Up to that point, the dark
• 15:37
  Speaker 4: Side has been dominant. There hasn't been anything getting really
• 15:41
  Speaker 4: in the way of that. And yet you know, you
• 15:47
  Speaker 4: think about all of the things that have begun to
• 15:54
  Speaker 4: domino effect, which are you know, what we saw in Rebels,
• 15:59
  Speaker 4: right with the Empire being kicked off the fall, we
• 16:03
  Speaker 4: have what happens on and or with the leaving of
• 16:07
  Speaker 4: Manmathma from the Senate, that whole thing that happens there
• 16:11
  Speaker 4: on Corusant itself, and then the moment she gives her
• 16:15
  Speaker 4: speech twice, you know, once in the chamber and then
• 16:18
  Speaker 4: of course wants to call rebels to her aid. And
• 16:21
  Speaker 4: then what happens with the Yavin four and then the
• 16:25
  Speaker 4: Death Star and Luke Skywalker blowing up the Death Star, right,
• 16:30
  Speaker 4: And so I think that cascade of events creates that reverberation,
• 16:38
  Speaker 4: like it's like it kind of starts with what we
• 16:41
  Speaker 4: see in Rebels and just continues to build and build
• 16:44
  Speaker 4: and build until it almost is an explosion as big
• 16:48
  Speaker 4: as the Death Star blowing up, but in the spiritual realm, right.
• 16:51
  Speaker 4: And so I love that you bring that up because
• 16:53
  Speaker 4: I think you've really pinpointed something perfect.
• 16:57
  Speaker 1: And maybe we could then take that and extrapolate that
• 17:00
  Speaker 1: and say Vader's first instinct would have been to contact
• 17:04
  Speaker 1: the Emperor while he's in there, and the Emperor, who's
• 17:09
  Speaker 1: wiser in the ways of the forest, Invader Vader's like,
• 17:13
  Speaker 1: I'm I'm going to fly around and I'm going to
• 17:15
  Speaker 1: turn back. I know where these these a holes live.
• 17:18
  Speaker 1: I'm going to blow them up. And the Emperor says,
• 17:21
  Speaker 1: didn't you just feel that? No, you you come back here,
• 17:26
  Speaker 1: and you you get with me, and we're going to
• 17:29
  Speaker 1: do something special. So like that reverberation, Vader very very wilful,
• 17:38
  Speaker 1: very impetuous. I could see it being then that he
• 17:41
  Speaker 1: calls the Emperor and the Emperor is like, no, you dummy,
• 17:44
  Speaker 1: You're going to lose if you go right now. We
• 17:46
  Speaker 1: gotta we gotta, you know, commit some evil to get
• 17:49
  Speaker 1: the dark side resurgent in this moment again sort of thing.
• 17:53
  Speaker 4: Well, so, and I think the Emperor doesn't foresee the
• 17:58
  Speaker 4: Death Star being destroyed.
• 18:00
  Speaker 3: I would imagine that, and.
• 18:02
  Speaker 4: So therefore this is a kick in the nerds to
• 18:07
  Speaker 4: both of them, right, I mean, the force nerds are
• 18:12
  Speaker 4: ringing in their bodies right now because something they did
• 18:16
  Speaker 4: never see coming happened. And so I really like this
• 18:22
  Speaker 4: idea that that is one of the biggest reasons for
• 18:31
  Speaker 4: Vader to not try something so risky, because not only
• 18:37
  Speaker 4: is he reeling figuratively and literally in his ship as
• 18:41
  Speaker 4: he tries to get control of it, but that spiritual
• 18:45
  Speaker 4: reeling of Okay, something just happened in the force that
• 18:52
  Speaker 4: I did not expect. And not only that, but you
• 18:55
  Speaker 4: think of on top of that, you just had Vader
• 19:02
  Speaker 4: take down Obi Wan Kenobi hours before this, you know,
• 19:06
  Speaker 4: and yet Obi Wan disappears. He doesn't, you know, Vader
• 19:12
  Speaker 4: realizes he didn't kill him, he disappeared. So I think
• 19:16
  Speaker 4: there's that on top of it as well, And so
• 19:19
  Speaker 4: I could totally imagine Vader kind of being really off
• 19:23
  Speaker 4: his game, you know.
• 19:25
  Speaker 3: Well, I mean he's supposed to be. That is his moment.
• 19:29
  Speaker 1: He is supposed to overthrow the Emperor. He's been given
• 19:33
  Speaker 1: the Death Star, he's killed Obi Wan Kenobi, He's finally
• 19:37
  Speaker 1: ready to ascend and become the dark Lord of the Sith,
• 19:42
  Speaker 1: which I think then also throws in a very fascinating
• 19:46
  Speaker 1: aspect to look at in terms of did he already
• 19:49
  Speaker 1: have an apprentice, a secret apprentice waiting to pop out?
• 19:54
  Speaker 1: And there are so many story possibilities here. I almost
• 19:59
  Speaker 1: want to beg the animation department too, I don't think
• 20:02
  Speaker 1: live action is ever going to fulfill us here, but
• 20:05
  Speaker 1: I think we're we're spinning a couple of really interesting
• 20:07
  Speaker 1: like tales of Vader. Yeah, you know, little fifteen minute
• 20:11
  Speaker 1: ones where we get those little tastes. Yeah, what's going
