- 0:00Hey guys, in this video I'm going to go through some
- 0:02essential autism gifts that I think you are going to
- 0:04definitely need. Guys, what's going on?
- 0:05Welcome back to the Aspy world. My name is Dan and I have
- 0:07autism, ADHD. I make weekly videos, all of
- 0:10this stuff. So if you are coming beyond this
- 0:12journey, it helps improve the lives of people with the
- 0:13spectrum. Make sure to hit the subscribe
- 0:15button down below so you can get notified by clicking the
- 0:18notification bell when I upload a video.
- 0:20So gifts are a huge thing when it comes to like people wanting
- 0:24to buy gifts. So people want to go for the
- 0:25spectrum and want to buy gifts for people who may have ADHD.
- 0:28It's a whole thing, right? And so I put together a lovely
- 0:31list of seven items which I think are just perfect for like,
- 0:35you know, gift ideas that are going to get you thinking
- 0:37stimulating. If anything, I recommend that I
- 0:39can find a specific item for I will have linked it down below.
- 0:42So make sure to check the description of this video.
- 0:44But also if you want my free autism life hacks PDF book
- 0:47completely free, be sure to go to autismhacks.net or click the
- 0:51link down below. The link's there as well.
- 0:53So guys, in terms of the first thing I want to talk about is
- 0:56century toys and tools. So century toys and tools are
- 0:59kind of like gadgets and gizmos that are like fidget spinners,
- 1:02you know, fidget boards, anything fidget related.
- 1:04These things are like century seeking types of ideas or gifts.
- 1:09Now this also comes under the umbrella of like tube bubble
- 1:12lights and kind of like strip lights and lights like this one
- 1:15in the background. Anything that's century seeking,
- 1:18it even could be slime or putty, those type of toys, textures and
- 1:22colors and movement based, which are really, really helpful for
- 1:25sensory seeking dopamine hungry autistic individuals.
- 1:28So if you're thinking they want a gift, anything sensory related
- 1:31is awesome. Now actually in the UK, there's
- 1:33a toy manufacturer called Smiths or a toy warehouse called Smiths
- 1:36or Smyths. Now they actually have a home in
- 1:38the fidget toys section. So if you are in the UK or
- 1:41Ireland, you can go to Smyths or Smiths toys and actually look in
- 1:45the fidget toys section. Super awesome, highly recommend
- 1:48it. And then I'll leave a link down
- 1:49below to my best widget kind of toys ones I think are the best.
- 1:53There's quite a few independent ones on the Internet.
- 1:55I think they're amazing. So yeah, just check out the
- 1:56links. Number 2 is visual aids.
- 1:58Now, visual aids are for commutative issues, right?
- 2:02So people on the open spectrum need help with everything from
- 2:06daily life organization to going to bed to getting dressed and
- 2:08all those things I would highly recommend using as a gift using
- 2:13things like visual aids. Now this could be things like
- 2:15visual timers, communication tools, it could even be a
- 2:18poster, like a scheduled chat or a picture grid.
- 2:21You can get a lot of these off Etsy as well, which is pretty
- 2:23amazing. Or you can go on like Pinterest
- 2:25that fine, go on, download it and print it off yourself,
- 2:27laminate it and you can make the whole gift yourself and it'll be
- 2:30a link to Etsy for some of the stores I think are pretty cool.
- 2:33But this is the kind of gift which is not only awesome, but
- 2:37it's like super practical. Like it's really fun because you
- 2:39know that the person's taking interest, you know, in you.
- 2:42If you're a gift receiver and someone will give you a gift
- 2:44that's going to help you in ways that you didn't expect, then
- 2:46that's cool. They're thinking about you in
- 2:48all the right ways. OK, so before we get any
- 2:50further, just want to say thank you to today's video sponsor
- 2:53brilliant. Now brilliant is a non
- 2:55prescription homeopathic medication and I use
- 2:58specifically for ADHD, but you can use it mainly for things
- 3:00like anxiety and stress and reduced feelings of
- 3:04restlessness, irritability and impulsivity, which is also a
- 3:07really good bonus. Now the cool thing is that this
- 3:09actually helps increase focus and concentration, which I think
- 3:11is awesome and it's completely like there's no nasties in it.
- 3:14This is not addictive, super supernatural, right?
- 3:17So you can get your hands on this from the link in the
- 3:19description down below and I will give you a disk help which
- 3:23you can use the code ASP15 to get 15% off your first purchase.
- 3:27If you are thinking about taking brilliant, consult the adopter
- 3:29first just to make sure that everything is kosher.
- 3:32Okay guys, let's get on with the video.
- 3:34Okay #4 is adaptive clothing. Now what I mean by this,
- 3:37Autistic individuals have sensory processing disorder,
- 3:40typically Co morbidly Co occurring with the diagnosis of
- 3:43autism, which means not all clothing is made equally.
- 3:46So they'll be like seams and and and tags and stuff.
- 3:48That's really going to annoy autistic people.
- 3:50You can get sensory adaptive clothing that are kind of like
- 3:53seamless socks. You can get, you know, no tag
- 3:57T-shirts, really comfy trousers. There's a bunch of different
- 3:59ones and I actually have worked with a bunch of different
- 4:03brands. What I'm going to do is link
- 4:04down the top of three that I've worked with sensory socks.
- 4:07There's one a new one that's just come out that I did on my
- 4:10Instagram. So if you haven't already
- 4:11followed me on Instagram, highly recommend check me out on
- 4:13Instagram right now. I upload videos every single day
- 4:15on Instagram and Instagram stories and there's a couple of
- 4:18those that I've worked with in the past.
- 4:19So definitely check out adaptive clothing.
- 4:22Really good, super helpful. I'm very practical again.
- 4:24OK, so #5 is therapy or education apps.
- 4:27You know, if I didn't have an iPad or iPhone, my life would be
- 4:29a whole lot different. Actually, it would be much more
- 4:32complex and I would hardly get anything done.
- 4:34But with the use of certain apps, I'm able to expand my
- 4:38relationship with schedules because the apps will remind me,
- 4:41The apps will keep me on track of how much medication I've
- 4:43taken, how much water I've been taking, you know, all of these
- 4:46things. There's a bunch of different
- 4:47apps out there, so amazing ones. And not only that, there's
- 4:50communication apps like Pro to Go, which is an amazing app that
- 4:54you can use. It puts together visual stories
- 4:57of little kind of like graphics, and then you press them and it
- 4:59speaks for you. So they say somebody is a non
- 5:01speak autistic person, then you could use this gift to really
- 5:06just change their whole life. So I'm going to leave the link
- 5:08to some of the apps and recommendations that I have
- 5:10doubled as well. So you can definitely check
- 5:11those out. But it's a great gift idea and
- 5:13you can always gift apps. So if you're an iPhone user or
- 5:16an Android user, you can go to the store, the App Store, go in
- 5:19and say gift this. As long as you've got the
- 5:20person's e-mail address that you can send it to, you can gift
- 5:23them the app and then you pay for it and they receive it.
- 5:25It's a great digital awesome gift, especially if you're long
- 5:27distance. Number six is art and creativity
- 5:31kit. Now artistic individuals love
- 5:33different types of hands on play, kinesthetic learning,
- 5:36which is like using paint to make like, you know, hand paint
- 5:39drawings or pencils and coloring things and even coloring is
- 5:42therapeutic in itself. So always think about creativity
- 5:45and art kit. These things are going to be
- 5:47awesome for artistic individuals, but make sure the
- 5:49person you're getting these for is OK with paint or is OK with
- 5:52it and their hands dirty or is OK with felt tip pens or you
- 5:56want to make sure that the needs of the person is met.
- 5:58Also LinkedIn gifts, but this is just an idea.
- 6:00I'll link down below. Some of the ones I think are
- 6:02very creative. There's an amazing company
- 6:04called Lucky Kid from the United States, and they do a lot of
- 6:06this kind of creativity type of stuff, but for autistic
- 6:09individuals. So I'll link you to those as
- 6:11well. And #7 is a no brainer.
- 6:13Everybody in their authors on the spectrum will have a topic
- 6:16of special interest, right? So that they're obsessed with
- 6:18that. They just want to talk about all
- 6:19the time. Yeah, I know mums and dads
- 6:21watching this video. You get what I'm saying, right?
- 6:23But in this specifically, if you know what your kid is into or
- 6:26you know what your loved one or your friend or cousin or
- 6:28whatever, whoever is on the spectrum you're buying for, if
- 6:31you know that they're really into cars, they're really into
- 6:33like, I don't know, snakes or something, or animals or
- 6:35whatever, get them something to do with a specific special
- 6:38interest. It will always pay off in
- 6:39dividends. It's something that will
- 6:40treasure forever. And you might think, oh, you
- 6:43know, they may have this already and blah, blah, blah.
- 6:45Dude, I can never have more Fight Club stuff.
- 6:47Like I have Fight Club stuff like all over my office right
- 6:49now. I'm obsessed with Fight Club.
- 6:50And if anybody bought me duplicates, I'd be like, well,
- 6:52thank goodness I've got a duplicate because now if one
- 6:54breaks, I've got a backup. Guys, smash that like button if
- 6:58this is helpful and share this video if you think it's going to
- 7:00change somebody's life and how we give you ideas.
- 7:02Love you always. Peace out.
- 7:03See you next, yeah.
