- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, and welcome to another edition of the 9th and always podcast part of the fan-sided podcast network.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison and you can trip it here at 9th and always dot com and here with me after our little mini break for the summer is fellow contributor.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Mr. Actress did a dual access.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: How are things, man?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: We're in that little season, but how are you?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, get Robert, you know, lots of sports going on.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: Even if not football, so great time in that way.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: And lots of football news too might have been the law.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll get into it, so, you know, I like, I've always, like,
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Early June, mid-June, mid-June, early June is fun.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: And mid-June, it's like, wow, like the sports dock, it kind of really dries up and you're like, well.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: either you've got to be able to baseball or with the world cup now.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm sure.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're not a baseball fan.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, what am I?
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: What am I watching for three months?
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, NBA season just just ended.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: Actually NBA and NHL season ended like within a day of each other, right?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that's that.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's all right.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the next one like the next one on Friday or some like that, and hurricanes one on Saturday or something like that.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: something in that neighborhood, I don't exactly know the dates right off the top of my head, but they have those seasons are done.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, if you're on the baseball fan, you're you got nothing to do, but obviously the the world cup are you are you are you locked in on it all.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just paying any attention.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: What did it's like a strong word.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna use that, but I would say that I'm definitely like I try to watch the games when I can.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think like
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: One of the things that makes the NFL so exciting is the fact that there's not a lot of games every year.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: The world cup is like that on like super steroids because it's only like every four years.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and like it's like such a big deal.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, it feels like like I wouldn't call myself the biggest soccer fan.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: But like as a sports fan, I feel like I have to watch.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and you know, the fact that it's in the United States and I'm sensibly Mexico and Canada makes it a little bit easier because games are unlike during the day.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to have them on it weird times.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: Um, because I know that's been the case in the past when it's like, oh, the world comes in in Japan, like what time the game the games are it weird times either really early in the morning or strange times of the day, so that's kind of nice.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Although now the rest of the world is getting to experiencing that you're watching like all these people are like, oh, I was watching this game and it was midnight when the game started.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think the England Croatia game, they said it was a 11 p.m. in England when the game started, it was four o'clock in the afternoon here, which is nice.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so definitely will be one to pay attention to.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: USA had a good start to their campaign.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: last Friday, and then I'll play Australia, which is a cool connection with the, with the foreign owners, with them traveling to Australia next year, or this year I suppose to start to start the season.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: So as you said, this is kind of a low in the calendar for football, 49ers skipped their second or their final weekend of OTAs, and they are on break until mid July, somewhere in that time frame, they haven't actually announced the dates for training camp yet, but it's mid July, as officially when NFL teams can start to start training camp.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: It'll probably be like rookies, sometime in the mid July, and then maybe like a week later, the veterans will join the fray.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: So something to watch out for.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: So we got, you know, about a month or so until things really start to get interesting on that front.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: At the top of this episode have to have a conversation that is a tough one.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: Saturday, evening, time, I think Saturday afternoon, some news came that the former 49ers defenseman, fast-rusher, Elden Smith passed away at 36 years old.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: He was found by a friend of his.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: and then his he got to his home friends went inside and found him unresponsive and yeah as of today this is June the 17th so four days later we still don't have a cause of death I think his family is going to have his brain examined first possible signs of
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: In good spirits at that particular point, we all know we don't have to rehash all of the the trials and tribulations of his life, especially in his career during with the 49ers, but man, I mean, ultimately just like really sad news because it seemed like he was starting to get his life turned around over the last half-decade or so.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: May return to the NFL a couple of years ago with the Cowboys and
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like real devastating stuff and really sad news for for everybody in the new him, but yeah, I don't know if you have any any thoughts on that.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, first of all, like yeah, very like disheartening, very sad news.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: I two things, one echoing what you said that, you know, you could really seem like
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: used turning his life around like you said there is reports that he was invited to the team's minicamp spoke to the rookies and so like you know really still a presence like in that like super sad and then the other thing I'll say is just that like
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: As I think, if those of you who have gone to the website and have seen my bio, now I really became a 49er span in the early 2010s, late 2000s, and one of the highlights as a kid, it doesn't really know football at the time watching
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: He was, he was so good.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: I, there's words can't describe just how dominant he looked.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, as a, like as a fan, what are very like core memories for me of like getting it to football and getting it
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: have on the field and with some great defenses.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: So just, you know, just what a player for one he was playing 49ers and just, yeah, like super, super sad.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: But I think
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: Just I'll never forget like just seeing the way like seeing him on the field I was like I'm watching one of the best pass for his ever.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't really know that meant but it just like it's just he's so he was so good to them.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well said.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well said for sure.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: Um, those are always our conversations to start off with, but, um, yeah, um, it felt appropriate to go ahead and.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: and take care of that.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: So speaking of past roachers actually, this is unfortunate.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: An unfortunate next step in the process and that is something that happens a couple of weeks ago at this point, but we were just sort of having trouble getting our timelines together.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that of course is that the Los Angeles Rams made a massive trade.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: to bring Miles Garrett to Los Angeles, extensively.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: So he will, he is now officially part of the Los Angeles Rams.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: They sent Jared verse and a couple of draft picks.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think like a first round second round third round pick and success of years.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's, man, talk about things that are not ideal.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: That guy is a real menace on the football field.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I am not really looking forward to him being part of the Rams for the next, whatever, four or five seasons.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not good.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so what I would say is when we were talking about like the 49ers making a trade and like we were sort of a throwing ground mouse gear, I think I said something which is along the lines of he's one of the few players with the only players in the NFL who makes Nick a Bosa, not your best like pass racer like
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: The bar is, he's one of one in the NFL right now.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's like freakishly athletic, freakishly strong, really skilled.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's like a, it's a step change for them in terms of like their past rush now.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: So that sucks.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the miners are going to do about it.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the arms race is insane.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: But it is what it is.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you got to deal with like really, really talented players.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the thing for me is that the Rams traded a first a second a third spread out over a couple years in Jared verse for miles gear.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: That is like, like, that's a lot, but that's not like, that's not so much where, like, wow, like, they're really like made it even and so much of that is because I think like they had a guy like Jared Burst.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: You correct, right?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so, like,
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think the lesson for the 49ers is just, well, you have to draft better because if they had a young past Russia, they could have been in conversation with Garrett.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: What they've traded for them, I don't know, but like, the point is that like, they weren't even able to like have those conversations because they didn't have the chips to play with.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think for me, that's the bigger takeaway of this is that like, you know, these all in moves that the Rams are doing,
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: drafted well and built this well spring of like young talent that they can either extend or trade and sort of keep cost control that lets them get these big contracts.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, you see that here, Seattle is very similar.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's really where the 49ers like they got to compete there because they got two teams in their division that are like,
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: The best two teams at the NFL are the NFC West and neither of them are the 40 vendors.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: And that sucks, but like, I mean, it's gonna be so many crazy season.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: I like, yeah, it's terrible if you're a Naiders fan.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's great if you're a football fan, cause like, I guess, you're gonna see like, you're gonna see like, Trent Williams grew up and can smile to get it more.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not uh, was not very happy to see that.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think literally the only solace you can take and this is going to be, this is the biggest like I'm on a cope like silver lining that you I can say and I don't even fully believe it, but I'll say it anyway.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like because they traded verse,
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: At least it's not like this like it's a huge gap, but it's not like this crazy, massive life.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: All of that a terrible past Russia and now they have a like a super song.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, yeah, a good past Russia.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: Now they have a good like superstar.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: So they're like, okay, hopefully, I mean, it changes nothing because Miles Garrett is one of one.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: And he's the like, you have to double team it.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't have to double team Jared first.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it just like,
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like he is a, he's a magnet.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, he's a game changer in the same way that like Fred Warner's a game changer, like Nick Bosa, although I mean, he's more of a game changer than Bosa, which is again, like very few players in the NFL can way claim to that title.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: Right, he changes the way offense is like half to a purgey game, so, yeah, that sucks, like it's not a good sex, yeah, yeah, I mean, I guess the only silver lining is it doesn't make him any younger the rams, he's 30 years old, I think already, I think that's right, off you, obviously Matthew Stafford is,
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: visioning, I think the end of his career, I think he signed another extension that will keep him around for this year and next, if I'm not mistaken, over this off season, there is also the reports that came with this deal, because obviously they reworked his contract that he just signed with the, the Browns, like, but.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: was this offseason wasn't it?
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Or was it that?
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: So you just signed a deal a new deal with the Browns and the Rams inherited that, of course, and they did some work on it to make it a little bit more palatable for their current situation.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: But obviously it puts, I think the reports coming out of it, they were like, this is going to put other guys on their team are probably not going to be
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: like a puke in Akura, probably doesn't stay at a chance.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't stay as much of a chance of being on this team.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: Now he might all, he might be playing himself off the team by doing other things, not related to his contract.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: But some other of those young stars that you're talking about are likely going to end up playing somewhere else in a couple of, in a year or two,
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: because of these deals and that's just like that's the given take of doing something like this.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Now I think Rams fans would tell you well if they went into their Super Bowl who cares, right?
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like who cares if who could go to go to play for some other team?
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: or, you know, all these, some of these other young guys that they have in the, in the second area, lineback or whatever, if Mao's Garrett helps him win another title, then it's all, it's all good, but it certainly is, it's an all in right now immediately kind of move for this team and it certainly makes sense given their situation.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: As you said, the Niners just didn't have the, the chips to play.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think the only way you beat this, like the only way to even get into the conversation would have been like
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then the two and the three, which is essentially what Jared verse is like, it was like trading a second number one pick, right?
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think you need more than that.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would have been, that's the starting point.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: Probably, if you don't have a player is like two ones and then the other picks, but you're probably going to need more picks.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, maybe you can talk them into taking a lesser player in exchange, but I doubt that.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to beat them in that case.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: My thought was like, if you substitute verse for Michael Williams like what more do you have to add in terms of draft capital, I think it's a lot and that was nothing to do with Michael right like yeah, it's just he hasn't worked a year right he hasn't played enough to justify for the ram or for the Browns to be like, yes, we'll take him exactly so by I mean it like such a
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's just a testament to, unfortunately, they're drafting why because you're just like, okay, like they were able to get like a player to's like good enough to sort of command that much then you're like, all right, well.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: It is what like that's I think the lesson for the 49ers.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like obviously a trade for good players, but it's really like you got to be able to be in these conversations.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what the best teams are.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm sure Seattle was in this conversation.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: The Philly was brought on a certainly in this conversation.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like the best teams,
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: are always looking to improve and they have the ability to do so based off the talent they have accumulated.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's like the Niners need to get to that point.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they have done the nominal things with like building this team out, especially with making the moves when necessary, but like the replenishing, I think is a work in progress as opposed to their divisional rivals.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: yeah, for sure.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: And they're a little behind the eight ball with like some of the decisions that they made a couple of years ago with like the trampolines steel and all that kind of stuff.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: So that impacts it.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: All right, let's keep on the pass rate, rush or train, because that seems to be the topic of conversation that we're working on.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: And so this one comes from Raiders inside a Honda carpenter,
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and he is noted that the 49ers have a ton of interest in trading for defensive and max crossbie.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he has noted that the interest, the 49ers interest is, quote, nuclear hot.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he has already also been mentioned of as the, uh, the Eagles, as you previously mentioned.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: as a guy that would uh... that are as a team that would also be interested in max cross be obviously he was almost a member of the Baltimore Ravens this off season that trade fell through because he failed the physical uh... allegedly alleged like uh... possible that the ravens just decided they didn't want to trade for him anymore and so they failed him uh... but we're not making any speculations here just just thinking about stuff
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, like we talked about this earlier in the off season, like was Matt Crap, Max Crosby, a guy that you make a trade for, you kind of wonder if
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: if this is even something that happens in the off season or if this is more something like the Raiders waited out and like let's see how the first couple of weeks go if you are if they're tracking to be bad again then maybe they maybe they're like okay it's time to to let Max go but just let but let's in theoretical world oxas if the Raiders were interested in in doing a
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think the problem is it's just a question of, like, how much do you give up?
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think yes, obviously, crossvy doesn't like do what Miles Garrett would do because like, there's like he's a different tier of passwester, but I mean, he's an incredible passwester.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: It would be like a great one to punch.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: What I think the problem is,
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: Is that what is that what is the cost of the correct amount to give up given the fact that this team is like pretty old at pretty two positions.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: You know, pros we doesn't change that he he adds to that.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you have to do the two tos that they gave up is two ones.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Who wants, sorry.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't do it for two ones.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I do for two to's, but everyone's here in the NFL would do it for two to's.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, I think you can, it like a first and something I think I'm okay with that conversation, you know, but beyond that, I just don't think it fits this team.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a little worried about the teams that does fit though.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like I mean, I think Philly, obviously.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, frankly, I think Seattle, it would make sense if they, like, you know, I don't like, no, I don't want it, I don't want to say what I'm saying.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: So...
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, I think, well, I mean, they're definitely not getting to choose two ones at this point.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think part of the reason they got the one, the two ones from Baltimore the first time was it was before the draft.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: So they were sent essentially giving them the the pick from that year and next year.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that you're going to get like a
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: a 27 one and a 28 one for example, maybe like you said, if you can be like, well, how about a second round or next year and then if you really want to get into a first round or maybe like the first round or in 28, I don't know, something down the line, like something to protect.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because you got to protect yourself a little bit, but I also feel like just in the
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: My max cross me is not Miles Garrett, but I think max cross me across from Nick Bosa would create a very formidable defensive line.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: And as you were talking about before, like the arms race is on in the NFC West and if 49ers don't want to fall any further behind, man, they gotta do something with the past rush like they can't depend on Ramello Heights to be the guy.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it kind of sounds like Joey Bosa's like ready to just hang it up.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: And if in somebody pays them in a gargantuan amount of money, which the 49ers don't seem interested in doing.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: So like, there's not really anybody else out there who's going to move the needle.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: And so it feels like if you're going to make a move, it's got to be.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: a trade and like Crosby it seems to be unless they want to revisit like the cave on tip of the thing or something while in those lines that there's just I don't know if the move is gonna happen for anybody that's not an older guy who's just ready to get out of a situation.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean I think that's right like they have to right now they're not good enough right like on the on the line.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, maybe the problem is right, like, they have so many young players.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: So everything is a little bit of bet on like, okay, are these guys gonna, you know, as Alfred Collins gonna take that next step, Michael Williams, you don't, you don't know for sure.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: But if you just go off what you had last year, like, yeah, they're not, they're not in a position to really compete, honestly.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: And especially if you think about, like, frankly,
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right, they're often really good for most of the season, but also struggled in the key parts of this namely again Seattle like there's a huge, there's a huge level of like everything needs to level up, you know, it's not just that the defense needs to get better.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I think like they're clearly the third best team in the NFC West.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: They may be the third best team of the NFC, too, right?
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was just about to say like being the third best team in the NFC West is not a terrible slide at this particular juncture.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's, but I do think, right, like, like, if you teared it out, the Rams and Seahawks are definitely, like, a cut above this.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, for the Niners, it's an interesting question of, do you like go all in?
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you have to, right?
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: Your best players are not young.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: So what does that mean?
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: That means you make a treat like this.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, I don't know.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've talked myself into it, but I'm a little...
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: The amount they would give up.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that like, you don't get that guarantee in the same way that like, right?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: If they did it in 2023, for example, it would have been like, oh,
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, this is, they are like making their move.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's not, that's not the case now.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: This is just to keep up.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then you get a little bit worried because like, you know, there's a good chance that they're a draft pick is still like, like, instead of, let me stop rambling and just like, say it like this.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: They're not in a position to be like, yeah, we're probably going to make the playoffs.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: They might, but like, just by the nature of how hard that division is, like, they're going to be in a dogfight and then you run the risk of like giving up something really valuable in a draft that's like,
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: historically good from one I've like, sort of what I've read.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, I like the idea of pushing the first to 2028, that smart.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think I don't think any team is going to trade their 2027 first.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I especially don't think that like the nine or should given the fact that they just need way more young talent.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't realize this Max Kraus was like a year and a half younger
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: That is like.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: I was just looking at up while you were talking.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, wait, oh, okay.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: Max will turn 29 in August and Miles Garrett will turn 31 in December.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know to read if I should, like, if that's like a, oh, like, it does kind of.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking he was in his 30s already and that was going to change the calculus.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: But if it's not bad, if Dan, he is as bad as they say, then you get like two years with him right and like I don't know, I don't know if the news as bad as the Ravens doctor said it was maybe they again we don't know we can't really believe anything that they said because it's because of the suspicions of that whole situation.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: True, so I don't know like that I feel like you have to be able to do your own.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: you're doing your thing with whatever the problem is, but from a pure age standpoint, it's not as big of an issue as I was thinking.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I was with you when you were like, oh, yeah, I was just going to make it like the making old team old keep an old team older, but I'm just like, actually, he's still got to, you know, almost, you know, a year and a half, you know, he's a year from from being 30, so still.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I like, I'm not opposed to it.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think like, but I do think there's like a upper limit to what this team should be willing to give up.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know what that, like, I just not convinced that like even with Max Crossby, they're really like,
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: like they are like, even both teams are playing well as good as like the Rams and the C-Ox, which is like frustrating, but like definitely.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: You have to be sort of like realistic about that.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: Because obviously, the nanders are like on their A-game, they can beat anyone in the NFL.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: That much we know for sure, we saw that last year.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: But the question is like, when Seattle's on their A-game, can they beat Seattle?
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: And now with the Rams,
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: Monoimano, best on best, are you like, do you feel confident in against these teams?
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not so sure, like, I'm not so sure, Crosby takes me to be, yes.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: Does that mean that they shouldn't make the trade?
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I just like, I think that's an open question about how they should prioritize this season.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's all, that's all fair.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, the counter that and we can wrap up this part of the conversation is can you really sit back and just be like, well, where the third best team, we're pretty comfortably the third best team in our division, no matter which way we go, like we're not going to be so bad that the cardinals are going to catch us and we're we're going to need some breaks for to like leapfrog the two teams in front of us.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: So is it okay to just sit back and be like, but that's just the way it is.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great question, I mean, I don't think so, but I also like, like, I'm hesitant to give up anything in 2027 because I do think like this draft is going to be like potentially a way for them to solve a lot of their youth problems, but like, I mean, I don't know, I think the calculus is
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's why even though John Lynch and Calshian had been listening to us, they're the ones who make the decisions not us.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: Again, final thing on this, my guess is this doesn't happen in the off season and this truly is like a, we see, like they're, and because like I think the Raiders recognized, the way to maximize his value,
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: is to either, they end up being better than people think and he sticks around or they end up being the team that everybody kind of expects them to be expecting them to be again this year.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then they have a bidding war provided that he's playing well, now that is of course the bat the downside to to waiting is that.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: If he gets off to a bat start or something like that, then maybe the the number goes down, but.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: or nobody's interested or something like that.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I think I'm more, I think it's more like it happened as a trade deadline thing than right now, would be my guess.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I'll say, that's like tougher, the Raiders said, the 14th overall pick might be have been the best pick they would have done.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right, like what the teams are probably going to want to trade for them now, they're probably not going to be drafting a,
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: in the top 15.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: So that way, that's like that's especially brutal.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know how the writers are going to play.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's a good point.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: That like so much is contingent on how they think they can maximize value.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: But I think for the 49ers, it's good that they're in the conversation.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: They should be in the conversation.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: And like, I'll add this one final thing.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: I do think Crosby fits the 49ers ethos as a player.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's important.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he is an effort player.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's also super talented.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: But he's going to give you 100%.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, that is so important.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: You need that, because like,
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: that fits into this culture.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm on board, I'm just skeptical of how much they'll have to give up.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, we'll eventually, because I think you will get traded, like just a matter of what, we'll see if the amount that he goes for is what have been palatable, or if it is for the 49ers, who knows.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, um, so we are going to move away from the past rush or conversation.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, although I do want to say one funny thing, just because this is, this is come up.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you've seen this, but, uh, this is like one of the, actually, I think, uh, I think Peter, Pancy, uh, nine, I don't know he's posted about this, like the nine or something opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: One of those bits, like, to immediately trade for Jared versus from the Browns.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: I would do it.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: I would run a clean out dude.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I'll be too, but I think that would be funny.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: They should do it.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: They should do it.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: Man, now I'm going to be so disappointed that they won't do that.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just, it'd be really funny.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's an ally, a guy, Jared Verswell, and I'm not mistaken, he's from that area.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, no more pass rush talk for today.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure it won't be the last time that we talk about him in this podcast just because that's the way things have been going.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Sue, we are going to have a couple more things to talk about.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and that is going to be, uh, that is going to be brought to you by our friends at underdog fantasy.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and so they, um,
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: There's a thief in these finals.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody who's been quietly locking up all series long.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: You've got a hunch on who it is.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: Underdogs got $1 million for whoever calls it right.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: $1 million is sitting in a pot.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: All you have to do is pick the player who walks away with the most steals in the series.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: Your pick doesn't even need to win.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: Just back to the right thief.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: Because you can make picks in when money right now.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: The pot is waiting.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: Pick your player every game, include their steel stats, series end, steel, sleater of crowned, pot gets split among everyone who called it simple as that.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: The more funnels games you back them, the bigger your share, it's less a prediction and more a vibe, trust yours.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: Get your picks right and you could win up to 5,000 times your cash, and with steel the pot, even your losing picks can pay out.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that is a little bit about what's going on in the world.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: Oxia is a more sensitive ability to talk a little bit more about your experience using the
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, everyone.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the thing that like about Underdog is, especially when you're in like certain states where, you know, you can't use other apps, you can always use underdog and I mean white we were saying world cup right now, there's still lots of sports and I think like if you're like me and you're like, yeah.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: Do I love soccer now, but like I'll watch it?
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: This underdogs a great way to responsibly sort of like up the ante a little bit, you know, get a little more invested.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think as long as you know, you're smart and sensible about it, it can be a great way to just like get more into the game.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: So you can download the app today and use promo code noise.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: Score $50 in bonus entries when you play your first five dollars.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's promo code noise.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: Underdog, make picks, win money.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: must be 18 years older, 19 years old on Alabama and Nebraska, 19 years old, Colorado for some games.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: 20 years old, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Virginia, and president of the state were underdog fantasy operates.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Terms apply, concert with your play called 1-100.

- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: Or text hope and why, 467-369.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: excellent.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: All right, our next topic of conversation of oxides is the ongoing ballad of one Mr. Brandon Iook.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: So since our last meeting, I feel like we've had a conversation about this guy like on the regular for
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: two years now.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: It was the contract dispute.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: It was he's not playing well.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: It was the he got injured.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's the he's coming back from injury.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's the oh, maybe he's not coming back from injury.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's the oh, and where they've avoided this contract.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: All this nonsense.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's been happening over the last two to two and a half years.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: And now he has come out with a series of videos basically saying that in short, I didn't really watch the videos.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: I just basically got the
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: If you have better information than me, actually, I was, you basically called the 49er stupid for giving him all that money in the first place, which is kind of a whole areas, think to say, but also, bragging about that, he got 50 million from them, and basically hasn't done anything, just absolutely mind blowing the wild stuff.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: This also comes on, it comes in part with some reports, I believe it was Mike Floreo and Jason Lachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlachlach
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: have has confirmed it that the 49ers are intending to release i.e.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: before training camp starts my guess is at this point they're like this is the last chance that he has to show up and actually like kind of force their hands.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they're expecting him to do it but just to avoid any drama or any problems I think the likelihood is they've they've seen this out as far as it can go.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: nobody's trading for him.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's only doing bad, like negative damage to his reputation as maybe a person and a player at this particular juncture.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: Not to mention, also forgot to mention this part that he was what was in the lawsuit.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: He was what was the thing, the
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: the legal term.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's a war now for his arrest, there we go, because he put himself on camera driving a hundred miles an hour past Levi's stadium, and so there's a war now for his arrest because he basically turned himself in, because he shot that video and then put it on social media.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: So all slew of insanity going on with him, I don't really know what else they're saying about this guy, but my goodness.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just, it's an incredibly, and increasingly weird situation, I, like, I think we talked about it.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: We've gone back and forth about it, but it's, it's just nuts.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, three thoughts.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_01]: One, his 20, 23 season was really good.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's the best I've seen a receiver played in the 40 letters, offense of Dr. Kyle Shade ahead.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: So that, like, I used super talent to, then it's a shame that like we're not going to see that anymore.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: Second, they should have traded him.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they should have traded him.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: They never wanted to pay him that much money.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we were all thinking, oh, you know, you got to keep the talent.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: Really, I think they like that trade to Denver that they had should have taken that.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, well, you know, high size 2020.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would have a nice report.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: Cortland Sutton on this team, huh?
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: Way nice.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: There were in just the last two years.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: I would say I'd work more appropriately.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and the third thing I would say is that, uh, whoa.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that I guess it's just weird situation and like it's not clear what anyone should do here because like the matters like you can't cut him he's going to get signed by someone and like you know you want to get something out of it I you
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: so like he can't continue his career.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just super odd, it's going to be over, but like really, I mean, just it was a great season.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's all I can say.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was a really, really good season back in 2023.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: Good times.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just, like, again, I think we've said this a couple times before, like, you just hope that he's okay, like, just mentally.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's because what he's presenting, the things that he's presenting himself has don't seem like the actions of somebody who's.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_00]: like thinking straight and maybe he's not I don't know maybe he is maybe he knows exactly what he's doing.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: I would not want to speculate about his health in any way shape or form, but the action seemed to present kind of like strange decision making and kind of contradictory thinking like in that sort of idea like and you also have to wonder if
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: like as you said there's just no nobody's trading form at this point because of all the things that have happened uh... if the commander's even had a like a sniff of an idea like a maybe maybe we'll send them like a seventh round traffic or something like that and i like all that's out the window uh... i think the 49ers realized that like they held out as long as they could to see if just on the off chance that somebody would get desperate
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: But it also seems like it's it's a battle of one between one team, right?
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's almost it provided that that that that that Adam Peters in the and the commanders brass are comfortable with bringing him in.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's about the only place that he wants to go now.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: It may be that they don't want him there.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: And he has to figure something out and he'll have to sort of make a decision on that front.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, it is a shame because he was a good player, and we don't have any clue.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think this is the confusing part, or the frustrating part for me is we don't know what happened, right?
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: We know that certain things took place in front of the cameras and stuff, but I think Mamioka was saying that
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: on a recent episode of the podcast of the 49er stock podcast that they, that the speculation seems to be that last season when he was out, you know, like early in the season, he was going out and like running routes and everything, but the thought was, he just did that while in the media was there and then he immediately went back inside and like that was like, I don't know what the show that was for, but it was there.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_00]: The whole thing is just as you said,
- 42:25[SPEAKER_00]: a real shame, and then hopefully he'll be okay and be able to get back whatever to whatever it is that he wants to do.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously it's not going to be for the playing football for the 49ers.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it won't be playing football at all.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: We don't know, but we'll see on down the road.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: Then we hope that he gets what he wants in the end.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: Any final thoughts on that?
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, just better.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: from the 40 minutes perspective.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're not comfortable giving someone a contract.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: Just don't give the contract.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think that's their lesson.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: Is that like, I think clearly they didn't want to pay him in 24.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: They just shouldn't, like, I mean, I think so.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: I like, this is totally like.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, it's because I very much was like you don't know what we talked about.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about that a lot on this podcast so like I mean I think that's the lesson It's like if you or yourself are not comfortable with giving you the contract just don't give the contract and like no one kind of predicted like oh this is like How this would have ended, but I do think that like the nanniers were to clearly never comfortable
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: the second they paid him and like that's just that creates a problem.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, and all the stuff about how like he ended up signing the same contract that they offered him.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: like at the beginning of the process, but all the stuff that happened in the interim, any kind of wonder if they were comfortable with it at first, and then everything started to kind of get out of control and like you want it more money, and that and all the stuff that happened in between that initial offer and when you actually sign the contract, that's clearly at the point at which they should have just been like, you know what, actually we're good.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna trade you to Pittsburgh or to Denver or whatever,
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: and a story like have a good time.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: But you can also understand on that particular version of the team why they would not have wanted to let go.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: A guy who was clearly their best actual wide receiver.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like Diva Samuel was a was is what he is.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: John Jennings was, you know, is who he is.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: That sort of thing at the time I think it was pretty clear that that brand and I it was the best like
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: peer receiver on that team.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: And so you can sort of see it from both sides.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, hindsight is easy in this particular case, but it seems like they needed to.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_00]: to kind of talk themselves out of that, not particularly case.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, all right, two more little things.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: These are just kind of small tidbits that we can comment on and be, but they're good, happy things.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_00]: Foringiders announced recently that Kina Turner will be joining the Foringiders Eddie DeBardo Hall of Fame.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: I imagine that will be happening at a home game this season.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's really cool.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Kina member of those teams in the 80s.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so keen to turn a world, we'll, we'll join the, the, the team haul fame there.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then they also had a, uh, a happy 10 years to, uh, Kyle use shit, Kyle chain and John Lynch.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_00]: They also threw George Kittle in there.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's been here slightly less time than them, but I suppose technically they've all been here for the same, that the overlap wasn't quite like the, obviously, Lynch and Shanahan and Yusuke arrived at roughly the same time.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: If the, obviously, Shanahan and Lynch were here in what February or March of that of 2017 and then, or 2020, 2016, sorry, and then Yusuke arrived not soon after
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, Kittle was on that in that draft class that year, but pretty wild like in an in a league that doesn't where people don't stay in places for a very long Um, that they have but the coach and a GM and two players who've been with a team for that long.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and a full back.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: I know life of all the positions.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, super, super cool life a little crazy.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: That like,
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: that like you juices like the guy has been your 10 years, but you know, it's so super cool.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, I don't think you would have, well, I guess you probably, I think if if we look back on that initial signing group that they brought in, because it was him and a Brandon Hoyer and Pierre Gerson was he in that group.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and like a couple of other guys was
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: robbing gold came later, right?
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was a year or two later.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_00]: But it was like, there was that, remember they did that big press conference.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, here's the new coach, and here's like six new players that we just signed.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think, but the fault you would have had to be like, here's the guy most likely to be here in 10 years, would have been a call you should, but gosh, that was, those are dark times, I guess.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, you know, like we're talking about, oh, they're the third worst team, the third best.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: Third best team in the, and I've seen West and we're like, yeah, but, you know, it's still like a playoff team, like the standard has just been raised.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: And good, like, you know, that's what the best teams do.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: I like, I think I appreciate the fact that, you know,
- 48:00[SPEAKER_01]: We're not satisfied with the just like, oh, this is a playoff team and that they're not satisfied satisfied with just being a playoff team.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's a testament, like Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have done like 99% of the work and the one percent was like one over time and one 10 point lead away.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: So that is what it is, it sucks, but like I think you know,
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: they built the strong foundation now it's just about finishing and hopefully they'll get a chance to do so.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agreed.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: It was 2017, by the way, it was the beginning of 2017.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, if you ever saw someone's in that group, goodness, I'm having a real hard time.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just looking at the roster and trying to see if I can piece it together like who the other,
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: free agent players were in that group, um, very interesting, uh, for sure, uh, man.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: What, what a time to be, uh, for an Irish fan that was.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: Was Marquis good one in that team on that group too?
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes, he was.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he was.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I was looking, you know, it's like, oh, and Robbie Gold was on that team.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: So he must have been that must have also been,
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: the year that he joined so was like kicker a kicker a fullback to wider seafarers and a and a journeyman quarterback that that that that Kyle Shanna and really liked pretty sure that's more cheese pretty sure that was the group wanted imagine if he was on this team right now you could use that speed
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: Goodness.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: Hasn't played since 2023, Marquis Goodwin.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: No bummer.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_00]: And didn't play in 2020 because of the COVID.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: After he left, I think he was still with the 49ers when he didn't play that year, right?
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: Is that sound?
- 49:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's correct.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: Then he was in Chicago, Seattle, Cleveland, and then that was it for Marquis Goodwin.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, that is an aside.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_00]: Any thoughts on key to turners that little bit before your time?
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: That is, unfortunately, before my time, but, you know, I think it's cool, like, people will be excited.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I will just say, like, that, uh, those, like, the 2017 Niners, were terrible, but like, in a weird kind of, like, this is such a, like, eclectic mix of players,
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: kind of way that like I don't know.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: I look back.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's easy to look back on a kind of fun way just because they got good.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's been Jim Agrafo joined at the end of that season.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I just remember the like season finale or whatever with your plan to rams and on the Colosseum.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: And like, yeah, I don't know what it was, just like such a different to such a time of no expectations because you just were like, yeah, they're bad football team.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, but crazy to imagine where they would have come from there.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, almost beyond everyone's wildest dreams.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, and the funniest part is that Hoyer signed a two-year deal.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_00]: Good one was a two-year deal.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: Ravi Gold was a two-year deal.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: He ended up being here for a long time too.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, you sex original contract was four years.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then he signed all those extensions and everything.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_00]: Garcin was a five-year deal.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 51:38[SPEAKER_01]: They really thought, man, they really thought he was going to be like the guy who's going to carry them into the next, into the next good team that did not happen for him, good, good player, and I was, it wasn't a bad idea at the time, but wow, so there's a good article, I think I've read about like the 40 matters mentality, like before games, like you'll something about like the dark place they all get to, or I don't know, and they were just, I think kiddo said, yeah, I got that from Pierre Gerson,
- 52:07[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, interesting.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, you know, you look back and you're like, okay, like, what did these guys do as 49ers?
- 52:14[SPEAKER_01]: But they needed a culture reset.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: And they didn't.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: 100% yeah.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Darsone, culture reset.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_01]: Goodwin, like, he had just, this is infectious joy.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: That I like, I just, I remember.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: Quad Alexander was probably in 2019 or 18, but yeah, because he didn't, he wasn't there till after Fred Warner's rookie.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: No, but in the second year.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like it's just there are all these like names that you sort of forget was the team gets better.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: But like who are like quite important for the buildup.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of need to like reflect and reminisce.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the only played 16 games in two seasons for the 49ers, Pierre Gerson.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_00]: 64 catches seven hundred eighty six yards and one touch down.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I think I remember that touch down actually.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I remember the team literally couldn't for the life of them score touchdown until like Thursday night against the ranger, whatever.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I put a play 40 points or something.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_00]: They should have won that game time.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: We've probably I've been talked about this on the podcast fairly recently for some reason.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: They should have won that game.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's all I got to say.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_00]: There was passenger ferrets at the end, those off heads of, oh, yeah, this should have one.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we're gonna say, no, I'll just that like, just such an odd season, odd two seasons.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, no doubt.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because the whole like this team is going to be bad, but they'll figure it out and then Graffle shows up and it's like, well, actually, maybe, and then he got hurt like immediately the next year and it's like, okay, well, it's getting, and then they got Nick posted, so we're out.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: What a great year that was.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, because the Cardinals continue to be.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_00]: confusing.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, all right, Oxa, I was, I think that's a good place to end the Cardinals are confusing.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: And, and, you know, the saving grace of keeping the 49ers of the seller of the NFC West by quite a wide margin year after year, which is great.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_00]: Carson Beck, I'm gonna save them.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, okay, I'm gonna throw, go ahead.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think the cardinals are going to be the ones who like take Brendan's source being the supplemental draft.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, good gracious.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: We don't even talk about that whole nonsense.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that would be funny.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: But I suppose not a their own responsibility.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he's going to be taken by like, like, one of these teams.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I feel like it's going to be the cardinals.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: could be like there I mean there's there's not many teams I mean if you look at the landscape of the league I don't think there's anybody there's there's not a whole lot of teams that either a don't have their long-term guy or b don't have a guy that they feel comfortable with with as a bridge guy man how bad would Carson Beck feel oh be terrible but like he'd be like you guys are taking this guy literally
- 55:36[SPEAKER_00]: Bet's on his own team, it he'd after you japped in me and it's like that's it, huh?
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: Man, never seemed Jacobi per set again ever.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, you know, oh, Arizona, man, when it comes to ruthless quarterback decisions, they're uh, they're the team.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Rosen got one year as a first round pick.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they did.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: Niners were the benefit.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Josh.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Rosen for sure.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well done.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_00]: So there we go.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: We've completely gone off the rails.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I think with that, we need to close this one out.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: As I said, we'll we'll be back periodically throughout the summer.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_00]: Probably once we get back closer to training camp, we'll start talking more about what the roster is shaking up to be.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we start talking about like
- 56:24[SPEAKER_00]: who do we think is going to make this team, that sort of thing in all those fun pieces, but until then, we want to say thanks to you again for listening to this episode of the nine or noise podcast part of the fancited podcast network.
