- 1:04Speaker 2: excuse me today, the sixth one yesterday was the fifth one,
- 1:07Speaker 2: first one in pads, Sam Donald, it's pretty obvious he's
- 1:11Speaker 2: no longer just the captain of this offense. He's the general.
- 1:15Speaker 2: He's in absolute command decisive throws.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Is there a Twitter account dedicated to that? Quite yet,
- 1:21Speaker 3: General sham Donald?
- 1:23Speaker 4: You know how Andrew Luckhead a very popular one.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Not yet. There's one for WSU now too.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Because yes, yeah, it's really good, it's really fun.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Jadarian Price was the running back one yesterday and the
- 1:37Speaker 2: first snap of eleven eleven and full pads of camp.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Jake Bobo rookie cornerback Julian and Neil missed their second
- 1:43Speaker 2: consecutive practices. Mike McDonald says their injuries are quote normal
- 1:47Speaker 2: camp stuff, not serious. Much more on all I saw
- 1:50Speaker 2: coming up throughout the show. The forty nine Ers were
- 1:53Speaker 2: signing back wide receiver Deebo Samuel one year deal after
- 1:55Speaker 2: you left them for the Commanders. The Saints are signing
- 1:58Speaker 2: wide receiver Chris oh La to a four year, one
- 2:01Speaker 2: hundred and thirty two million dollar extension. That's ninety million
- 2:05Speaker 2: of a guarantee, per ESPN's numbers. CBS TV's placing lead
- 2:09Speaker 2: NFL game analyst Tony Romo on leave after his arrest
- 2:12Speaker 2: in Milwaukee last week on suspicion of operating a vehicle
- 2:15Speaker 2: out intoxicated after a golf tournament. Yeah, apparently there.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Was it a golf cart.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Oh is an SUV on a freeway. It was ridiculous.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that more details came out that made
- 2:27Speaker 4: it worse.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I thought it was a golf cart at firsts.
- 2:31Speaker 2: He could buy, he could buy the whole fleet of Uber.
- 2:33Speaker 3: He could own Uber.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Plan Atlanta at night. This afternoon, the Storm played Atlanta
- 2:39Speaker 2: in the WNBA six and twenty four. For the Storm,
- 2:41Speaker 2: they lost seven straight again, Saunders, They've lost five straight matches.
- 2:46Speaker 2: They played tomorrow at Portland seven forty five in a
- 2:49Speaker 2: Cascady MLS derby. Right here on ninety three point three
- 2:52Speaker 2: kJ RFM, our buddy mos Vita Morrer is actually dramming
- 2:55Speaker 2: down there to cover that. The Rain play at BAFC tomorrow.
- 2:59Speaker 2: On the other weekend, action of Twins and Mariners will
- 3:02Speaker 2: be all weekend out the yard in Soto, we got
- 3:05Speaker 2: seafair and the Blue Angels. The busy weekend here and see,
- 3:09Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm with the Friday Show and back
- 3:11Speaker 2: out here at Seahawks training camp at the Virginia Mason
- 3:13Speaker 2: Athletics Center, Greg Bell, Jessmond McIntyre, as we are every
- 3:17Speaker 2: weekday ten am to noon. Just when's back in the
- 3:19Speaker 2: studio at everything.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I am back in.
- 3:21Speaker 4: The studio and very jealous of the sites that you
- 3:24Speaker 4: get to see, the fresh air off the lake, the
- 3:27Speaker 4: sun that eagles everything.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Yes, I'm jealous.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I was talking to Nick Vinette yesterday. You're gonna hear
- 3:33Speaker 2: him at eleven o'clock, but we were talking about the
- 3:35Speaker 2: all the camps he's been to, Pittsburgh and New Orleans.
- 3:38Speaker 3: He's had a trip, yes.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And yeah, he's been around since he left in twenty nineteen.
- 3:43Speaker 2: He was, I mean, we just marveled over the setting here.
- 3:46Speaker 2: As I said, I've been to more than a few
- 3:48Speaker 2: NFL training camps. I mean, New Orleans is back in
- 3:51Speaker 2: the back of a commercial park and the heat and
- 3:54Speaker 2: humidity and alligators, and Miami is just stifling. And even
- 4:00Speaker 2: Dallas in Oxnard, California, on the ocean by a Marriott
- 4:04Speaker 2: is still really hot, except there's an ocean breeze here.
- 4:07Speaker 2: It's just idyllic, is the best word. I wrote it
- 4:10Speaker 2: the News Tribune, the Newstribune dot Com. And yesterday after practice,
- 4:14Speaker 2: Mike McDonald and is Prescommerce just began unsolicited about how
- 4:18Speaker 2: blessed they we all are and the Seahawks are to
- 4:21Speaker 2: be practicing in this in these conditions, blue angels flying overhead,
- 4:25Speaker 2: the bald eagles that are nesting right next to the field,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and then full pad yesterday, first real day of football,
- 4:32Speaker 2: real football, and I'll talk about everything that I saw.
- 4:35Speaker 2: You'll hear Mike McDonald's say, Nick, even Warry is in
- 4:37Speaker 2: an adverse situation.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Coach will explain why he said that and what the
- 4:43Speaker 2: second year safety is doing about it. Ten thirty, you
- 4:46Speaker 2: were gonna talk offensive line. You're gonna hear from Gray's abel.
- 4:48Speaker 2: He's working on his way back from being at his
- 4:52Speaker 2: family farm all off season.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Dude.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Just that guy is the one hundred percent of one
- 4:57Speaker 4: hundred percent you want on your offensive block.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And that yes he's throwing tires and hang around. Yeah,
- 5:05Speaker 3: you have him protect them.
- 5:07Speaker 2: He was getting up before dawn back in South Dakota
- 5:10Speaker 2: this offseason to be on his family farm, working like
- 5:12Speaker 2: he always has. It doesn't matter if he's a Super
- 5:14Speaker 2: Bowl champions drug draft pick in the NFL.
- 5:17Speaker 3: No, he's the first.
- 5:18Speaker 4: He's the first person I talked to in the locker
- 5:20Speaker 4: room after the Super Bowl win, and he's just actually
- 5:24Speaker 4: honestly and genuinely humble, where he's like, oh, yeah, like
- 5:28Speaker 4: this is cool. He reminds me of the serbian NBA player.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I think it's that yoga sh It's the other one
- 5:37Speaker 4: who just wanted to go home. It's like, yeah, I
- 5:40Speaker 4: want it. I just want to go home. He reminds
- 5:43Speaker 4: me of that.
- 5:44Speaker 2: He also talked to me about Brian Flurry. You'll hear
- 5:47Speaker 2: from Gray's able at about ten.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that's some good insight.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. The offensive lineman have a real read
- 5:54Speaker 2: on offensive coordinators. They I mean they do, and they
- 5:58Speaker 2: tend to be the most deep players on the team.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I'm also gonna tell you what I saw in the
- 6:03Speaker 2: one on one pass rush Dril yesterday with full pads
- 6:05Speaker 2: the first time, including what Byron Murphy did to the
- 6:08Speaker 2: stud left Guard's able. We'll talk about the Mariners their
- 6:11Speaker 2: next moves. What are they gonna do? They're gonna be
- 6:13Speaker 2: standing Pat probably not. It would be absolutely shocking if
- 6:17Speaker 2: they haven't made a move even by Monday morning, when
- 6:19Speaker 2: we're back on the show next week. They're gonna make moves,
- 6:22Speaker 2: perhaps as early as this afternoon. I'll explain that the
- 6:25Speaker 2: trade deadline is three pm Monday, four nine, four five
- 6:28Speaker 2: one on the Komodad's text sign that we'll read back
- 6:30Speaker 2: at eleven thirty. The first question I'm gonna ask you
- 6:32Speaker 2: is what Mariners moves do you want right now, as
- 6:34Speaker 2: in like an hour ago. Yeah, don't take the field
- 6:38Speaker 2: to night against Minnesota until they make these moves. It's
- 6:40Speaker 2: what do you want?
- 6:41Speaker 3: Gonna be tricky?
- 6:43Speaker 2: You want a royal to come up from Tacoma. He's
- 6:44Speaker 2: barely been there from Double A, Arkansas. He's just ripping it.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Do you want I was gonna say, do you want
- 6:51Speaker 2: Resh Snyder gone? But we all know Resh Schneider probably
- 6:54Speaker 2: should have been gone a long.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Time ago, right, but it's not happening. It would have happened.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Six and a half million guarante his wy. He's still here.
- 7:01Speaker 2: They're not eating that, at least not yet. What moves
- 7:04Speaker 2: you want to see? Four nine, four or five one
- 7:07Speaker 2: on the Tacoma Dads text line, I have a feeling.
- 7:09Speaker 2: We'll have a couple one have to do with the
- 7:11Speaker 2: dugout where hedoes back at eleven thirty. We'll read back
- 7:13Speaker 2: to your talkbacks on the iHeartRadio app nine through three
- 7:15Speaker 2: KJR or nine three three KJR dot com. There's a
- 7:18Speaker 2: red microphone button at the top of our website. Press
- 7:21Speaker 2: that leave a voicemail thirty seconds or less and Jesson,
- 7:24Speaker 2: we'll play that back at eleven thirty.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Please send your voices. I like playing them.
- 7:29Speaker 2: She loves it. She'll play every one of them, even
- 7:31Speaker 2: when people are singing out of tune and some made ups.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Oh, but they're so good. I love those.
- 7:38Speaker 2: At eleven o'clock, we're gonna talk to Nick Vannette. He
- 7:41Speaker 2: sat down with me yesterday after our show, before or
- 7:43Speaker 2: after practice ended. He was really good, talking about how
- 7:47Speaker 2: you become a pro for ten years in this business.
- 7:50Speaker 2: He didn't expect to be in the NFL for now
- 7:52Speaker 2: going on eleven years. He talked about his wife. Earzar
- 7:58Speaker 2: was his girlfriend when he was here twenty sixteen as
- 8:01Speaker 2: a Seahawks third round pick out of Ohio State until
- 8:04Speaker 2: twenty nineteen. She was actually a former Miss Idaho met
- 8:08Speaker 2: her here while he was here, and I reminded him,
- 8:11Speaker 2: I said, I don't think you were married when they
- 8:12Speaker 2: traded you to the Steelers in September of twenty nineteen.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Said no, he got married after that. He credits his
- 8:17Speaker 2: wife Urza for being absolutely instrumental in getting him a
- 8:22Speaker 2: mental coach and as sports psychologist. And you're gonna hear
- 8:26Speaker 2: a few guys on this Sam Donald. I wrote it
- 8:29Speaker 2: the News Tribune this morning. Of Sam Donald, he said
- 8:32Speaker 2: on a podcast with Chris Long last month. He said
- 8:35Speaker 2: he'd never talked about this publicly before. But Sam Donald
- 8:39Speaker 2: is going into his Minnesota year, the only year he
- 8:42Speaker 2: had with the Vikings in twenty twenty four, after signing
- 8:44Speaker 2: from being a backup with the forty nine ers, he
- 8:46Speaker 2: worked with a sports psychologist and Sam Donald was telling
- 8:50Speaker 2: the story, and I wrote it in the News Tribune.
- 8:52Speaker 2: It's at the Newstribute dot com right now if you
- 8:53Speaker 2: want to read it. But Sam Donald was saying that
- 8:58Speaker 2: his sports psychologists saying, you know what, when you're a
- 8:59Speaker 2: professonal athlete, especially your point in your career, six seven,
- 9:02Speaker 2: eight years in, you spend all this time being a
- 9:04Speaker 2: pro athlete trying to build a house hammer and nails.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Building a house. Every practice, every off season, every season
- 9:10Speaker 2: is adding more nail, hammer and more nails, hammer and
- 9:13Speaker 2: more nails of the daily routine. And the sports psychologist
- 9:16Speaker 2: told Sam Donald before that Minnesota Viking season in twenty
- 9:19Speaker 2: twenty four, it's time to paint your house. You've been
- 9:23Speaker 2: hammering away for so long. Step back and enjoy the
- 9:26Speaker 2: finished product and realize this house is done, that you
- 9:30Speaker 2: belong here. Start painting it and sprucing up and putting
- 9:33Speaker 2: the finer touches on it, because you've already made it.
- 9:35Speaker 2: The house is done. And Donald said that that unlocked
- 9:38Speaker 2: something for him mentally. What has Donald done since he
- 9:42Speaker 2: was told that by a sports psychologist. He's gone thirty
- 9:45Speaker 2: one and six Jess. He took at that Tom Brady
- 9:50Speaker 2: and he are the only two quarterbacks to win fourteen
- 9:53Speaker 2: or more consecutive regular season games and consecutive seasons. He's
- 9:56Speaker 2: won a Super Bowl, He's got a one hundred million
- 9:59Speaker 2: dollars con tracked all after the unlocking by the sports psychologist. Well,
- 10:03Speaker 2: Nick Vinette yesterday told me some of the same things
- 10:07Speaker 2: about what a sports psychologist has done for him thanks
- 10:10Speaker 2: to his wife encouraging him to do that. They also
- 10:13Speaker 2: had a baby girl sixteen months ago. We talked about
- 10:15Speaker 2: that and nothing changes your life like a child for
- 10:18Speaker 2: the first time, and yeah, talked about that.
- 10:20Speaker 4: I'm excited for people to listen to this conversation at
- 10:23Speaker 4: eleven because it is way beyond football.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yes, it really is. And I knew Nick Manette is
- 10:29Speaker 2: a He was a bachelor. He was twenty three twenty
- 10:32Speaker 2: four out of Ohio State. Came in as a big
- 10:35Speaker 2: man on campus off of Ohio State. I mean, any
- 10:37Speaker 2: big star to get drafted out of Ohio State is
- 10:39Speaker 2: a big deal and had been a big deal all
- 10:41Speaker 2: through college. So he was a young man that was
- 10:43Speaker 2: still a batchelor. Just you can imagine what that was like.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I remember their dating story too.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I do. And to see him now and
- 10:54Speaker 2: how worldly he is and how his priorities have just flipped,
- 10:58Speaker 2: and how appreciative he is for being in the Ena
- 11:00Speaker 2: Fell for ten years, even though it's been for eight
- 11:01Speaker 2: to nine different teams. We talk about that journey at
- 11:04Speaker 2: eleven o'clock. You'll hear that, and again we'll readback your
- 11:07Speaker 2: text at eleven thirty or your hear your talkbacks, and
- 11:10Speaker 2: then Ian Finesselill joined me before practice eleven forty five
- 11:14Speaker 2: before what's he got going on from twelve until three?
- 11:17Speaker 2: Dave Softy Maler. We'll be back on at three o'clock
- 11:20Speaker 2: I think here from the Virginia Maside Clinic Center as well.
- 11:25Speaker 2: So what else JP Crawford on the disabled list? Is
- 11:28Speaker 2: that the next move? We'll see what the Mariners do.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Brendan Donovan has had ample time now in his minor
- 11:34Speaker 2: league rehabs. I mean so much that he's slumped and
- 11:36Speaker 2: is getting better. He's been bound there so long, so
- 11:39Speaker 2: is it time for him to come up? Indications are
- 11:41Speaker 2: from the Beat writers down in LA from the Mariners
- 11:43Speaker 2: game last night that it could be this weekend or
- 11:46Speaker 2: even today before they played the Twins, that Brendan Donovan
- 11:48Speaker 2: comes back, and it could be simply just a one
- 11:50Speaker 2: for one move of JP Crawford, who's injured again going
- 11:53Speaker 2: back on the injured list. Donovan slides into the third
- 11:56Speaker 2: baseman spot and Weston Wilson goes back to honestly where
- 12:00Speaker 2: he probably needs to be a triple A Tacoma. That
- 12:03Speaker 2: could be the easy one for one move, but four
- 12:05Speaker 2: nine four five one on the Koma dodge text line,
- 12:07Speaker 2: what moves would you like to see instead Sam Donald?
- 12:11Speaker 2: I mentioned not just the captain, but the general now
- 12:14Speaker 2: of the Seahawks. This was Mike McDonald yesterday talking about
- 12:16Speaker 2: his quarterback.
- 12:18Speaker 5: I mean, we're all growing, so it's hard to like,
- 12:20Speaker 5: it's kind of like you're with him every day. So
- 12:22Speaker 5: you know, you don't see your uncle for like.
- 12:25Speaker 2: A year or two and oh yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 5: You've changed, you know, like, but uh, you see Samu
- 12:30Speaker 5: every day, so it's kind of like the same guy.
- 12:31Speaker 5: But I'll tell you right now, he's being really decisive
- 12:34Speaker 5: with the ball. He's taking care of the ball. He's
- 12:36Speaker 5: making great decisions, he's playing fast, he's being aggressive when
- 12:40Speaker 5: he needs to be. He's doing a lot of great things,
- 12:41Speaker 5: great great command. His process is really cool. I think
- 12:47Speaker 5: I appreciate about Sam's and a lot of court I mean,
- 12:50Speaker 5: but you can't speak for everybody. But it's just every
- 12:52Speaker 5: rep is a rep. So if it's like if it's
- 12:54Speaker 5: in the quarterback room and they're going over the script,
- 12:57Speaker 5: like he treats that rep the same as he does here.
- 12:59Speaker 5: If it's practice online or you know, we're in a game,
- 13:02Speaker 5: it's just it's all the same. And that's the that's
- 13:05Speaker 5: like the mental approach that we want to want all
- 13:07Speaker 5: of our guys to take.
- 13:09Speaker 2: The process. Man, how many times did we hear Mike
- 13:11Speaker 2: McDonald talk about the process?
- 13:13Speaker 4: I feel like it's pretty prevalent in professional sports.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yes, but he especially stresses the process over the results.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And he's saying that Sam Donald masters those processes and
- 13:25Speaker 2: he it's I mean, let's face it, justin he this
- 13:28Speaker 2: time last year, Sam Donald didn't know who all the
- 13:31Speaker 2: names of the cooks were. He didn't know he didn't
- 13:33Speaker 2: know the shortcuts to get to the Virginia Mason Athletics
- 13:35Speaker 2: Center around four or five traffic. He didn't know the
- 13:38Speaker 2: ins and outs of the Seahawks organization like he does now.
- 13:42Speaker 2: And the comfort level between last year and for any
- 13:44Speaker 2: player that just gets here, but especially the quarterback and
- 13:47Speaker 2: face of the franchise, the comfort level is exponentially higher.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and there's a moment when your shoulders just relax, right,
- 13:55Speaker 4: you know, right.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And that's where Sam Donald is right now. He knows
- 13:59Speaker 2: he's about to get mammothly paid. He has a season
- 14:03Speaker 2: even approaching last year, we talked about how he led
- 14:05Speaker 2: the NFL and turnovers if he just drops those by
- 14:09Speaker 2: a few how much better and more efficient the offense,
- 14:11Speaker 2: and he will be. But he knows he's in line
- 14:13Speaker 2: for the massive, massive payday. He already got one hundred
- 14:16Speaker 2: million dollar deal from the Seahawks. But he's in the
- 14:18Speaker 2: second year of those that three year deal. They'll ride
- 14:21Speaker 2: that season this year to see how much he's valued
- 14:24Speaker 2: and how near the top of the quarterback market he
- 14:26Speaker 2: will be next year. He's in the middle of the
- 14:28Speaker 2: pack right now.
- 14:29Speaker 4: He's so young too, only twenty eight. We feel like
- 14:32Speaker 4: he's been in the league forever. And yeah, he's only
- 14:36Speaker 4: twenty eight.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Four years.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, just turned twenty.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Right, Happy birthday, sam My bad on June fifth.
- 14:43Speaker 2: That is my fault, No, that exactly, And yeah, he's
- 14:49Speaker 2: the difference is night and day comfort level wise, which
- 14:51Speaker 2: is why I wrote today that he's a general of
- 14:54Speaker 2: the offense now, not a captain or commander. The other
- 14:56Speaker 2: things I saw yesterday in the first day of padded practice.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Jadarian Price was the first running back in eleven eleven
- 15:02Speaker 2: full pad scrimmaging. He had been behind George Hallani at
- 15:05Speaker 2: the start of scrimmages. That's symbolic. I think I think
- 15:10Speaker 2: that was the reason why they chose that day for
- 15:12Speaker 2: him to be the number one running back to begin
- 15:14Speaker 2: the scrimmages. It was in the goal line drop, coming
- 15:17Speaker 2: off the goal and going out that he was low
- 15:19Speaker 2: loane tailback and took a handoff from Sam Donald on
- 15:22Speaker 2: the very first play. I've said it, We've said it again.
- 15:25Speaker 2: If he's not the lead running back week one, something
- 15:27Speaker 2: went wrong between now and then, injury or he has faltered.
- 15:31Speaker 2: But the crash course in the past game and pass
- 15:33Speaker 2: protection and past catching continues every day. For the first
- 15:36Speaker 2: round pick Jedari and Price nickimun worry. Yesterday the first
- 15:40Speaker 2: time we've seen him out here, watching in tennis shoes,
- 15:45Speaker 2: watching from the sidelines. He's on the physically unable to
- 15:47Speaker 2: Perform list, so he can't perform anything on the field,
- 15:49Speaker 2: not even conditioning drills until he passes a physical and
- 15:52Speaker 2: gets off the pup list, like rookie Devin Eastern the
- 15:55Speaker 2: nose tackle did yesterday, but not so Freemon, where he's
- 15:58Speaker 2: still on the pupp list. This is when Mike mc
- 16:00Speaker 2: donald had to say about Emon Warrior's quote adverse situation.
- 16:03Speaker 2: He finds himself thin following that ankle surgery he's in.
- 16:05Speaker 5: He's in an adverse situation and he's attacking it and
- 16:10Speaker 5: that's all you can ask him to do. He's made
- 16:11Speaker 5: a lot of progress, which is exciting, and so you know,
- 16:15Speaker 5: it's one of these things where you know, you don't
- 16:16Speaker 5: want to put a timetable on it because you don't
- 16:18Speaker 5: want to limit him or you don't want to you know,
- 16:19Speaker 5: you don't want to.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Put him best.
- 16:20Speaker 5: But disco rip it every day, you know, And we
- 16:23Speaker 5: got great people surrounded by him, and uh, let's go
- 16:26Speaker 5: see where we get.
- 16:27Speaker 6: But return.
- 16:28Speaker 5: So far, he's done a great job and it's not
- 16:30Speaker 5: going to be easy, but but he's just the man
- 16:32Speaker 5: for the job.
- 16:34Speaker 2: It was interesting to me, Jessamine. He McDonald felt compelled
- 16:37Speaker 2: to explain why he said to me, I don't know
- 16:39Speaker 2: when I kept asking on Wednesday or Saturday if if
- 16:43Speaker 2: even wore he expected anymore to play in the opener.
- 16:46Speaker 2: But then when even when he explained it, he kind
- 16:47Speaker 2: of went hummada, hummada. What he was trying to say
- 16:50Speaker 2: was no, I've been talking to him and others. They
- 16:53Speaker 2: just don't want to put pressure on the twenty two
- 16:55Speaker 2: year old kid. He's still a twenty two year old kid.
- 16:57Speaker 2: We forget that, but he's still twenty two and he's
- 17:00Speaker 2: anxious to get back and he probably wanted to be
- 17:02Speaker 2: back yesterday for the first day of PATS and they
- 17:05Speaker 2: put him on the pup list to protect him from himself,
- 17:08Speaker 2: and yeah, all of that so he doesn't the coach
- 17:11Speaker 2: doesn't want to come out and see, yep, he's playing
- 17:12Speaker 2: week one even though they expect that. Yeah, because they
- 17:15Speaker 2: don't want to add any more pressure to him.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Yeah, And I mean that's I think you said it
- 17:20Speaker 4: perfectly when it comes to protecting him from himself. Because
- 17:24Speaker 4: I've met Nick, I've talked to him. He obviously made
- 17:26Speaker 4: a huge impact on this team at such a young
- 17:30Speaker 4: point in his NFL career, and I yeah, that's what
- 17:35Speaker 4: that's what they're doing, because he's going to go full force.
- 17:38Speaker 3: He's just going to.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Go out and that's what you want, you know, let
- 17:41Speaker 4: the horses out of the gate at the right time.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't need that on July thirty, No, you do,
- 17:46Speaker 2: not August first, No.
- 17:48Speaker 4: And I get it, But I think that that's also
- 17:50Speaker 4: a learning process. That's I get he's not a rookie anymore,
- 17:54Speaker 4: but some rookies, you know, at his age, NFL wise
- 17:58Speaker 4: go through and you have to bide your time and
- 18:01Speaker 4: actually be patient, and learning patients and watching from the
- 18:04Speaker 4: sidelines also teaches you you a lot.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Nick even Worry is younger than a preponderance of the
- 18:10Speaker 2: draft picks in this year's draft, a year after he
- 18:13Speaker 2: got drafted. I mean, there are twenty three, twenty four
- 18:15Speaker 2: to twenty five year olds now coming out of college
- 18:17Speaker 2: because of the extra COVID year and transfer rules and
- 18:21Speaker 2: six years of eligiment all that stuff. So even worry
- 18:25Speaker 2: as just a frame looking at the frame of life
- 18:27Speaker 2: and business of the NFL, is still very young. And
- 18:31Speaker 2: I think that's what the puplist designation does, is it
- 18:34Speaker 2: just protects him from himself.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Like we've said, yeah, but those are the kind of
- 18:37Speaker 4: guys you want on your team, are the ones that need.
- 18:40Speaker 3: That protection absolutely.
- 18:42Speaker 4: So what you're saying is we're not worried about his health.
- 18:45Speaker 2: No, not worried. Another quote adverse situation that Hill both
- 18:49Speaker 2: remember he had the high ankle sprain on the fourth
- 18:51Speaker 2: play of his NFL career last September. He missed three
- 18:54Speaker 2: games because of that injury and then came back, of
- 18:57Speaker 2: course and was just off the hookstellar for the defense
- 19:01Speaker 2: with Mike McDonald moving them all around. Then he sprains
- 19:03Speaker 2: the ankle four days before the Super Bowl and practice
- 19:05Speaker 2: down at San Jose State. McDonald said he couldn't sleep
- 19:07Speaker 2: that and I think he wasn't going to play in
- 19:09Speaker 2: the game. He did play of seventy two defensive snaps,
- 19:13Speaker 2: thought it was okay, did intensive rehab both here in
- 19:16Speaker 2: Seattle and back in South Carolina offseason, and in June
- 19:18Speaker 2: said he thought it was okay, and then when he
- 19:20Speaker 2: started to get around to come into training camp, he said,
- 19:22Speaker 2: this isn't right. And that's why they did the arthur
- 19:24Speaker 2: scopic surgery, not invasive arthur scopic surgery, which has a
- 19:29Speaker 2: normal recover time of four to six weeks. That surgery
- 19:32Speaker 2: was in early July, stands the reason he could be
- 19:35Speaker 2: back by the end of August, but they're not going
- 19:37Speaker 2: to push him.
- 19:37Speaker 4: And having that Arthur scopic myself, I can tell you
- 19:42Speaker 4: that recovery time is accurate, except I did not have
- 19:47Speaker 4: the exceptional care that the.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Seahawks training staff.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Provides for the players there, and they're amazing at it,
- 19:55Speaker 4: and I know that he will be absolutely tip top,
- 19:58Speaker 4: one hundred percent before they let him on the field.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Up next, let's talk line plague. What I saw yesterday
- 20:04Speaker 2: in the offensive defense line pass rush drills, even the
- 20:07Speaker 2: running backs against the linebacker pass rush drills. And you'll
- 20:11Speaker 2: hear from Gray's Abel, the stud rookie starting from day one,
- 20:14Speaker 2: left guard last year and his rookie season, became a
- 20:16Speaker 2: Super Bowl champion, then went back to South Dakota and
- 20:19Speaker 2: worked on his family farm, you know from Greys Abel.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Next from Seahawks Training Camp Live on ninety three point
- 20:24Speaker 2: three KJRFN. Welcome back to Sinco de Mayo. Portion of
- 20:48Speaker 2: the show Jess when McIntire back and studio drag Velly
- 20:50Speaker 2: why not? Why not? In July thirty first, Yeah We're back,
- 20:56Speaker 2: Julia was ending today unbelievable. Already in August the Seahawks
- 21:00Speaker 2: training camp six practices today. The NFL officials are here.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Craig Rolstad, who lives in Lake Taps and went to
- 21:08Speaker 2: Lindenberg High School. He's an NFL referee. He's been a
- 21:11Speaker 2: head referee for going on his thirteenth season in the league.
- 21:15Speaker 2: His crew is out here. He's often here because he's here.
- 21:18Speaker 2: He lives here in Lake Taps. He's offen here at
- 21:20Speaker 2: the Seahawks training camps with his crew, and that they
- 21:23Speaker 2: were giving a talk to the media this morning. The
- 21:26Speaker 2: referees officials were about the changes in the NFL rules.
- 21:30Speaker 2: There are only two major changes in the NFL rules.
- 21:32Speaker 2: One is you can have four floaters now on the
- 21:35Speaker 2: kickoff return team as blockers. Remember they a couple of
- 21:38Speaker 2: years ago rechanged all the kickoff rules and some of
- 21:41Speaker 2: them were how many guys you can have in the
- 21:43Speaker 2: second line as blockers vanguards ahead of the kickoff returners.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Used to be three guys. Now you can have a four.
- 21:49Speaker 2: That's one minor rule change. And another one is you
- 21:52Speaker 2: can a player can be ejected for something that he
- 21:55Speaker 2: isn't penalized for. If officials miss something on the field,
- 21:59Speaker 2: the New York or officiating department can be the eye
- 22:03Speaker 2: in the sky and if it shows it on replay
- 22:05Speaker 2: and they see it, they can buzz down and actually
- 22:06Speaker 2: eject the player for something he wasn't penalized for. That's
- 22:08Speaker 2: a change this year. And in the rules explanation of
- 22:11Speaker 2: the change, they used Josh Job and the Super Bowl
- 22:14Speaker 2: punching a Patriots player away from the ball and nobody
- 22:18Speaker 2: saw it and so didn't get it, did not get penalized.
- 22:22Speaker 2: But now there's a rule that if even if the
- 22:24Speaker 2: officials miss it, New York can buzz down and the
- 22:26Speaker 2: eject the guy for that. Those are the two major
- 22:28Speaker 2: rule changes.
- 22:29Speaker 3: New York can buzz down for a lot of things.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they're yeah, they're kind of the all encompassing lords
- 22:33Speaker 2: of the game. Now. Yesterday, in the first day of pads,
- 22:37Speaker 2: they went offensive and defensive line pass rest drills. You'll
- 22:41Speaker 2: hear what I saw there yesterday, But first I want
- 22:44Speaker 2: you to hear from Gray's abel. I talked to him
- 22:46Speaker 2: about his off season briefly a couple days ago, and
- 22:49Speaker 2: he went back to South Dakota. It was family farm
- 22:52Speaker 2: and it was just like he was fourteen years old again,
- 22:55Speaker 2: not that he was a Super Bowl champion and first
- 22:57Speaker 2: round pick.
- 22:58Speaker 3: I don't even know if he knows he's a Superworld champion.
- 23:01Speaker 4: Maybe that ring coming down off of the ceiling was
- 23:04Speaker 4: his first indication.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Here South Dakota's Gray's able here on ninety three point
- 23:10Speaker 2: three KJR.
- 23:11Speaker 7: Graysable super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks left guard tell us,
- 23:15Speaker 7: first of all, what your off season was like as
- 23:17Speaker 7: a Super Bowl champion?
- 23:19Speaker 8: Leag No, it's just just another off season. Got to
- 23:23Speaker 8: enjoy it, hanging out with family. And then this summer
- 23:26Speaker 8: it was it was working out in the mornings, going
- 23:28Speaker 8: up to a farm the rest of the day, and
- 23:31Speaker 8: getting home, eating supper and go to sleep. So we're
- 23:34Speaker 8: able to find a little bit of golf in there
- 23:35Speaker 8: and have some fun. Don't get me wrong, but it
- 23:38Speaker 8: was good of short lived and luckily and now we're
- 23:40Speaker 8: back to football.
- 23:41Speaker 7: What do you do on the fire your family farm
- 23:43Speaker 7: at this point.
- 23:43Speaker 2: In your life.
- 23:44Speaker 8: Yeah, so we're mainly a road crop operation, and so
- 23:49Speaker 8: a lot of a lot of the summer was spent
- 23:51Speaker 8: scouting fields and figuring out what we got to do
- 23:54Speaker 8: moving forward. And then I was able to to start
- 23:58Speaker 8: tearing out some fence and fixing up an old farmyard
- 24:01Speaker 8: to feed some cows there throughout the winter. So it's
- 24:05Speaker 8: one of those deals that kept me busy but also
- 24:07Speaker 8: kept me out of trouble.
- 24:08Speaker 2: The code is always keep you busy.
- 24:10Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Second year.
- 24:12Speaker 7: I talk to guys all the time. With the learning
- 24:14Speaker 7: curve from the first year, the second year is so steep.
- 24:17Speaker 7: What have you noticed about your training camp two and
- 24:21Speaker 7: your advantage?
- 24:21Speaker 2: You know, I have compared it last year this time.
- 24:23Speaker 8: Yeah, I would say you're just understanding the pace and
- 24:27Speaker 8: the speed and the tempo of everything, and understanding how
- 24:31Speaker 8: our offense works, and understanding that the offense a little
- 24:35Speaker 8: bit better and being more knowledgeable.
- 24:36Speaker 6: The game of football. Because it's year one.
- 24:38Speaker 8: You come in, you're just swimming from the jump and
- 24:41Speaker 8: you're just trying to keep your head above water.
- 24:42Speaker 6: Year two you have more of an understanding.
- 24:44Speaker 8: Now it's like, all right, now, let's start figuring out
- 24:47Speaker 8: the whys to the offense, the why we do this,
- 24:50Speaker 8: why we're calling it this way, why we're running to
- 24:52Speaker 8: that certain formations or boundaries and stuff. And now it's
- 24:58Speaker 8: now it's completely understand in the offense. So hopefully there's
- 25:02Speaker 8: a there's a jump in knowledge that allows you to
- 25:05Speaker 8: have a jump in your game as well, and that's
- 25:07Speaker 8: what we're really looking for here too.
- 25:09Speaker 7: How different is that? Why with Brian Flurry now is
- 25:11Speaker 7: the offensive corner? What have you noticed anything different?
- 25:14Speaker 8: Yeah, he's extremely smart and it's one of those deals
- 25:18Speaker 8: you don't really understand it right in the moment, and
- 25:21Speaker 8: then when it happens, then it kind of clicks and.
- 25:23Speaker 6: Is like, all right, that's that's why we're doing that.
- 25:25Speaker 8: So he is a guy that kind of stays one
- 25:28Speaker 8: step ahead of everything and allows us to play fast
- 25:31Speaker 8: and free and enjoy the game of football.
- 25:35Speaker 2: That's graz'able. In his second season as the first round
- 25:37Speaker 2: draft pick last year out of you like Dakota Stagia
- 25:40Speaker 2: from Pierre, South Dakota. I'm talking about disabling, dismantling fences
- 25:44Speaker 2: and rebuilding him in the off season on a farm
- 25:47Speaker 2: in South Dakota's family's farm. Not too many NFL players
- 25:50Speaker 2: do that after winning a Super Bowl. Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Well, the other thing that I noticed too, he said,
- 25:54Speaker 4: it keeps me out of trouble, right, like idle hands,
- 25:57Speaker 4: that whole thing. Yes, I definitely can attest to that.
- 26:03Speaker 4: I was so lucky to have played a fall sport
- 26:05Speaker 4: when I was in college. When I played volleyball, it
- 26:09Speaker 4: was in the fall. So you get there a month
- 26:10Speaker 4: before everyone else.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Right, you get the student.
- 26:13Speaker 3: All you have.
- 26:14Speaker 4: To do is work out. All you have to do
- 26:18Speaker 4: is play your sport, work out, be healthy. And it
- 26:22Speaker 4: is not the same for others.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Our son did the same thing, or son and daughter
- 26:26Speaker 2: both did college athletics some fall seasons and same thing.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Yeah, and then you're like, you got the by the
- 26:32Speaker 4: time spring comes around, you kind of got the lay
- 26:34Speaker 4: of the land. You're like, won't make that mistake, right,
- 26:37Speaker 4: guy sleeping on the quad?
- 26:39Speaker 2: Okay, yesterday, grades Abel was one on one with Byron
- 26:44Speaker 2: Murphy in a featured matchup of the offensive and defensive
- 26:47Speaker 2: line pass restrials. And to let you know how not
- 26:50Speaker 2: Biron Murphy's not just strong, I mean Bidron Murphy shoved
- 26:53Speaker 2: Christian Haynes back into the back for like five yards
- 26:55Speaker 2: off his feet on one of the reps. But when
- 26:57Speaker 2: he went against Gray's able, he showed his speed and
- 27:00Speaker 2: at three hundred and six pounds, Byron Murphy had a
- 27:03Speaker 2: swim move that just Gray's. Abel is renowned for being
- 27:07Speaker 2: fast off the ball, and the swim move that Byron
- 27:09Speaker 2: Murphy put on him, Zabel couldn't keep up with. Murphy
- 27:12Speaker 2: went right around him. The rep was almost over before
- 27:15Speaker 2: it began. Really really telling, that's how good it. That's
- 27:20Speaker 2: what makes Bier Murphy so good. He's strong and he's
- 27:22Speaker 2: so fast. The other featured match that we were watching
- 27:26Speaker 2: was Riley Mills. You heard from him this week on
- 27:28Speaker 2: our show, and now he's fully healthy and I'm telling
- 27:30Speaker 2: you he's been the Taka camp in the first week
- 27:32Speaker 2: plus because how quick he is off the ball and
- 27:36Speaker 2: playing multiple positions nose tackle, three technique tackle, back out
- 27:40Speaker 2: at end. He was going one on one with Anthony Bradford,
- 27:43Speaker 2: the starting right guard, and the very first snap it
- 27:48Speaker 2: was a rip move inside by Riley Mills, who beat
- 27:53Speaker 2: Anthony Bradford. The second year guy who missed almost all
- 27:57Speaker 2: of last season, beat the veterans starter Bradford. So then
- 28:00Speaker 2: they typically go back to back, two reps in a row,
- 28:03Speaker 2: back to back. So in the second rep, Mills tried
- 28:06Speaker 2: to spin move to the outside, and Bradford, who's not
- 28:08Speaker 2: known for his lateral quickness, was quick enough to stay
- 28:11Speaker 2: with Mills and stay on him and picked him back
- 28:13Speaker 2: up again after the spin and was repelling. That was
- 28:15Speaker 2: a really really good rep for an offensive lineman be
- 28:18Speaker 2: that fast, And then the coaches like that so much
- 28:22Speaker 2: that they had him do a third time, which you
- 28:24Speaker 2: rarely see them go three in a row.
- 28:26Speaker 4: That's good brow because I don't think that people know
- 28:29Speaker 4: that much about what actually happens out at training camps,
- 28:32Speaker 4: So thank you.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the most real football there is. Once they
- 28:35Speaker 2: get pads on is the passers drills. It's like must
- 28:37Speaker 2: see TV. You gotta go watch them because it's the
- 28:39Speaker 2: most real they get. They don't tackle anyone of the ground,
- 28:41Speaker 2: so this is the most real football. So they go
- 28:43Speaker 2: a third rep between Riley Mills and Anthony Bradford and
- 28:48Speaker 2: it's a draw. They both came to a standstill. Nobody
- 28:51Speaker 2: really gained any real advantage, but it just spoke to
- 28:54Speaker 2: Riley Mills and his ability on the defense a line,
- 28:56Speaker 2: what he can add to them depth wise and rotation wise,
- 29:00Speaker 2: just by being healthy and not coming off in ACL
- 29:03Speaker 2: tear and reconstructive surgery and driving twenty two hours to
- 29:06Speaker 2: the Orange Bowl in the back of an RV with
- 29:08Speaker 2: his Great Dame Dog.
- 29:09Speaker 9: If you guys missed that interview, go back to the
- 29:12Speaker 9: podcast page because it was not only is he so
- 29:16Speaker 9: athletic and we have yet to see what's to come
- 29:18Speaker 9: up his career due to that injury, but he's also
- 29:21Speaker 9: an awesome guy.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Go to the Greg Bell podcast page.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Yes, thank you, that was from I think wednesday we
- 29:28Speaker 2: heard that. The other thing I noticed yesterday in the
- 29:31Speaker 2: pastor shows is George Hallani. Remember I told you the
- 29:33Speaker 2: reason that he's stuck here as an undrafted rookie running
- 29:36Speaker 2: back from Boise State was his pass blocking, and as
- 29:40Speaker 2: a rookie running back, especially a undrafted one, that's how
- 29:43Speaker 2: you make your mark, and he was exquisite at it yesterday,
- 29:46Speaker 2: picking up defensive backs and linebackers. Of course, Mike McDonald
- 29:49Speaker 2: loves to send those guys on blitzes, and Halani was
- 29:52Speaker 2: up to the task every time, one of the only
- 29:55Speaker 2: times in this camp, in fact, on eleven on eleven
- 29:57Speaker 2: through five days of practices, well, the many times the
- 30:00Speaker 2: offense has picked up a blitz it was Halani. Every
- 30:04Speaker 2: other the blitzeres have killed the offensive line so far
- 30:06Speaker 2: in camp, they have not picked him up at all.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Witherspoon the Anthony Bell who's been playing for Nicki Man
- 30:13Speaker 2: worry in his role of the hybrid linebacker from a
- 30:15Speaker 2: safety position. They cannot block. They aren't even picking up guys,
- 30:19Speaker 2: let alone not blocking them on the blitzes. But the
- 30:22Speaker 2: one time the offense did I saw in the first
- 30:24Speaker 2: five days, it was George Hawanee and that's why he's
- 30:26Speaker 2: still in their plans at running back. Even though Jedarian
- 30:28Speaker 2: Price is the first round pick. The captain Mike Benton
- 30:31Speaker 2: is sitting down next to me, he's normally the cracking.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Of course usually at this preseason he's a little bit
- 30:40Speaker 2: a month or two from now he being a cracking
- 30:41Speaker 2: preseason game.
- 30:42Speaker 1: And you really had to dig down deep here. For
- 30:45Speaker 1: the guests on this show, you're just walking by Wan
- 30:49Speaker 1: not put your neck sucker jump on the head said,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Buddy, I appreciate this. How are you well? Well? Thank you?
- 30:57Speaker 2: What's that You've gone a cracking training camps off? What's
- 31:00Speaker 2: different about an NFL training camp from besides it's on
- 31:03Speaker 2: ice and indo, yes, I got a listeners. You don't
- 31:05Speaker 2: have to text us that. But what do you notice
- 31:09Speaker 2: differently or the same or what strikes you well.
- 31:12Speaker 1: I mean, I mean listen, I've always followed the NFL
- 31:14Speaker 1: since I was a kid. I love the sport, I
- 31:16Speaker 1: love watching it, I love consuming it just like anybody
- 31:18Speaker 1: else here. But I think work wise, it's different when
- 31:21Speaker 1: you can kind of get into the weeds here. Because
- 31:24Speaker 1: I've done the NHL thing now for five straight years
- 31:26Speaker 1: going on six at this point, I mean, there's a
- 31:29Speaker 1: lot of similarities. I think when you can get you know,
- 31:33Speaker 1: a majority of not all your roster out there, and
- 31:36Speaker 1: you know they're saying that we have a lot of hope,
- 31:38Speaker 1: we have a lot of promise, guys are looking pretty good,
- 31:40Speaker 1: but you still can't really, I think, you know, gain
- 31:45Speaker 1: a true measurement of where a player is or where
- 31:47Speaker 1: a strategy is until you really put it not just
- 31:50Speaker 1: in the preseason, but into regular season as well. So
- 31:53Speaker 1: I mean, I thought yesterday being out here, you know,
- 31:56Speaker 1: it was the first day with guys on pads, and
- 31:58Speaker 1: then they kind of said it was like the first
- 31:59Speaker 1: day of school because previously when you go through the
- 32:03Speaker 1: first few days of camp it kind of feels like
- 32:05Speaker 1: mini camp still where there's not any paths. Yeah, and
- 32:08Speaker 1: there's not there. There's not a lot of contact, and
- 32:10Speaker 1: you're taking a really really essential element out of the
- 32:14Speaker 1: game that can really, I think give a true indication
- 32:17Speaker 1: of how big a player is, how strong a player is,
- 32:19Speaker 1: how far along a player is.
- 32:21Speaker 2: As well.
- 32:22Speaker 1: The other day I think was a step in the
- 32:24Speaker 1: right direction, but we're not going to really I think
- 32:27Speaker 1: see a true indication of how much rest or lack
- 32:31Speaker 1: thereof from a championship, and you know, the aftermath of it,
- 32:35Speaker 1: the afric little of it is going to really I
- 32:37Speaker 1: think put all this into context until week one, and
- 32:40Speaker 1: I think for me the big question here is Nicki
- 32:42Speaker 1: min Wari. We talked about this earlier. Our you know,
- 32:45Speaker 1: entire lineup top to bottom has talked about this year.
- 32:47Speaker 2: But you know, I think for the.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Most part, seeing a refresh Rashid Shahed he kind of
- 32:53Speaker 1: had to jump on the move in the moving train
- 32:55Speaker 1: last year. That's a promising sign. Sam Darnold looking a
- 32:58Speaker 1: lot more comfortable, I think, and even Mike McDonald a
- 33:00Speaker 1: little more outgoing here this year. There's there from I think,
- 33:04Speaker 1: from just like an outside perspective, there's I think a
- 33:08Speaker 1: stronger level of comfort and ease with them in that
- 33:11Speaker 1: he knows his system, he knows how these guys respond.
- 33:14Speaker 1: There's less variables and less moving parts, so there's more
- 33:18Speaker 1: of a chance for him to kind of feel relaxed,
- 33:20Speaker 1: especially given this environment in front of the hard knock cameras.
- 33:23Speaker 1: You know, hard knocks cameras. That that's a big, big
- 33:25Speaker 1: difference here. So I mean, all in all, I just
- 33:28Speaker 1: kind of put this into context with you know, a
- 33:30Speaker 1: Seahawks camp for the first few days, are you gonna
- 33:33Speaker 1: get a lot out of the first few days? The
- 33:35Speaker 1: answer is no, But you know, step in the right direction,
- 33:37Speaker 1: I think so far with with what we're seeing so far.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Yeah, then out there and pads again, the ramps up
- 33:42Speaker 2: in product. First day of school, right, yeah, second day
- 33:45Speaker 2: they we'll see how they go out today. Maybe not
- 33:47Speaker 2: as full go as yesterday. Biging to McDonald, he talked
- 33:50Speaker 2: about Myron Murphy and he was asked about Murphy's progress.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Murphy's going into his third year now, he's still got
- 33:56Speaker 2: two years left on his deal. This is Mike McDonald
- 33:58Speaker 2: talking about the defensive tax.
- 34:00Speaker 5: Really expect Murph to have a spike in productivity, rush
- 34:03Speaker 5: in the passer. He's earned it, but he does it
- 34:07Speaker 5: every day, you know. So it's great work for our
- 34:09Speaker 5: offensive line.
- 34:10Speaker 2: It's great.
- 34:10Speaker 5: He's in a great he's in a great spot. I
- 34:13Speaker 5: think he's been very intentional on his own development and
- 34:16Speaker 5: then how he's like invested his time, how he's how
- 34:20Speaker 5: he's handled his body, where he's trained, who he surrounds
- 34:23Speaker 5: himself with. There's this no wasted like, there's no wasted time,
- 34:29Speaker 5: you know. It's just he's very he's very deliberate on
- 34:31Speaker 5: how he goes about his business. And it's a great
- 34:35Speaker 5: example for the guys on how like you know, nothing's
- 34:37Speaker 5: going to change overnight, but having that deliberate process, and
- 34:41Speaker 5: we talk about stacking winds moment moment moment by moment mindset.
- 34:45Speaker 5: I mean, those things come to life.
- 34:46Speaker 2: With Byron, we're expecting more pass rust, productivity. He had
- 34:50Speaker 2: seven sacks last year. That was what Mike McDonald was
- 34:53Speaker 2: saying about Byron Murphy this year. Also he talked about
- 34:57Speaker 2: hard knocks and actually the hard Knocks. A NFL films
- 35:00Speaker 2: in HBO put out a trailer, a teaser about a
- 35:06Speaker 2: from a team meeting that they had. I think it
- 35:08Speaker 2: might have been the first day of camp. This is
- 35:10Speaker 2: Mike McDonald addressing his team in the main team meeting
- 35:13Speaker 2: room about how he wants to approach hard knocks.
- 35:15Speaker 6: Seriaey Man, we're back.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Cameras, all right, hard knocks.
- 35:21Speaker 6: Well, I'm thinking about it is like this. We talked
- 35:23Speaker 6: about it in the spring. But this is a gift
- 35:24Speaker 6: from the football gods.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Yes, okay, I'm one of the most awkward guys in
- 35:30Speaker 5: the history of America.
- 35:31Speaker 2: I used to worry all the time about, well, what
- 35:33Speaker 2: are they gonna think of me? And no, I don't
- 35:35Speaker 2: want to say their own thing.
- 35:36Speaker 6: True, it doesn't matter Okay.
- 35:38Speaker 5: All I'm worried about is creating basketball team can possibly create. Okay,
- 35:41Speaker 5: and I don't great And I want to make sure
- 35:43Speaker 5: that we're us all the time.
- 35:44Speaker 6: That's all I care about.
- 35:45Speaker 5: It's a gift because it reminds us to be us
- 35:48Speaker 5: every time that you kind of stray away.
- 35:50Speaker 6: I want the world to see you, guys, see what
- 35:52Speaker 6: you get? What makes you guys?
- 35:53Speaker 5: You you know, don't you How How good can we
- 35:56Speaker 5: get at what we do?
- 35:58Speaker 6: That's that's camp.
- 35:59Speaker 2: It's awesome. Mike McDonald, nine year old, first time head coach,
- 36:04Speaker 2: just turned thirty nine. It is really really resonates in
- 36:08Speaker 2: the locker room when he is self depreciating it.
- 36:11Speaker 1: And paraphrasing Sam Donald, did he not say, watch Hard Knocks,
- 36:15Speaker 1: Mike McDonald may be the gift that keeps on giving?
- 36:19Speaker 2: Did he not say that? Yeah? Yes, the nation's going
- 36:23Speaker 2: to see a different side of Mike McDonald. But yes,
- 36:26Speaker 2: he has evolved to the point where he's self deprecating.
- 36:28Speaker 2: He rips on himself saying he's the most awkward guy
- 36:30Speaker 2: in America. And the locker room loves that. They really do.
- 36:33Speaker 2: And it's part of the culture that McDonald is building here.
- 36:36Speaker 2: With the Seahawks centering year three? What can he do
- 36:39Speaker 2: as an encore second year, first time head coach. Already
- 36:42Speaker 2: won the Super Bowl, He's trying to perfect the process.
- 36:45Speaker 2: I'm next the Mariners. What are their next moves? It's
- 36:50Speaker 2: not I saw the Seattle Times Artica Sam's rock bottom,
- 36:52Speaker 2: not statistically rock bottom. They have been five games under
- 36:55Speaker 2: five hundred a couple times in April. But man, they're
- 36:59Speaker 2: in and now three games behind. They're even trailing the
- 37:01Speaker 2: trash Cans in the America League West. What do the
- 37:04Speaker 2: Mariners need to do? Like right now? What do you
- 37:05Speaker 2: want them see them do? We'll talk about the moves
- 37:07Speaker 2: the Mariners are gonna make, probably between now and Monday
- 37:11Speaker 2: and the trade deadline on ninety three point three. KJRFM,
- 37:37Speaker 2: Welcome back, Happy Friday. Do you happy weekend? A big
- 37:39Speaker 2: Seafair weekend. The Blue Angels will be buzzing over the
- 37:42Speaker 2: Seahawks practice here in about an hour or so. I'm
- 37:45Speaker 2: out of the Virginia Mason Athletic Senator jess Went McIntyre
- 37:48Speaker 2: becke at Elliott Bay Studios at downtown Seattle, six day
- 37:51Speaker 2: of Seahawks training camp. If you missed my brief chat
- 37:54Speaker 2: with Gray's Abel, the Super Bowl champion left guard. You
- 37:59Speaker 2: can hear that on the podcast page nine through three,
- 38:02Speaker 2: KGr dot comic Greg Belt Show later today or nine,
- 38:04Speaker 2: or in the iHeartRadio app eleven o'clock. You're here, Nick
- 38:08Speaker 2: Venette coming up, really interesting story sucking. Thank you, Jessin.
- 38:13Speaker 2: It was a good talk with the Dick Vannette about
- 38:14Speaker 2: well beyond football. Yesterday you'll hear that at eleven o'clock.
- 38:18Speaker 2: The Mariners come home after a two to five road
- 38:21Speaker 2: trip to Texas and the Los Angeles Dodgers. No one
- 38:24Speaker 2: expected them to win the Dodgers series, but they lost
- 38:26Speaker 2: three of four to the team they were trying to
- 38:28Speaker 2: eclipse in the America League West, the Texas Rangers. Same
- 38:32Speaker 2: old story. Beside the one game in Los Angeles when
- 38:36Speaker 2: they hit five home runs, a season high, and all
- 38:39Speaker 2: their runs scored, all seven runs scored by home runs.
- 38:41Speaker 2: It's beside that, it's been the same hole. It's situational hitting.
- 38:46Speaker 2: It's mostly not hitting the ball at all. It's the handedness.
- 38:50Speaker 2: It's the Dodgers bringing in a left handed reliever and
- 38:53Speaker 2: the Mariners countering with right handed rob ref Schneider. In
- 38:56Speaker 2: the ending that's what happened last night. What would you
- 39:01Speaker 2: as a fan? I asked at the top of the
- 39:02Speaker 2: show to come a dodge text line fort nine four
- 39:04Speaker 2: or five to one? What move do you want right now?
- 39:07Speaker 2: I mean, like within the hour before we're off the
- 39:10Speaker 2: air at noon, there could be a JP Crawford to
- 39:13Speaker 2: the injured list. He's banged up again. He was on
- 39:16Speaker 2: the injured list earlier this season. He hasn't played third
- 39:20Speaker 2: base or shortstop in a while. Colt Emerson has struggled
- 39:23Speaker 2: at shortstop as maybe rookies would do. Is not so
- 39:28Speaker 2: much fielding, but struggled at the plate. Cole Young is
- 39:31Speaker 2: still the MVP of this team in my mind. And
- 39:34Speaker 2: we could talk about Jerry Depoto's comments of well, the
- 39:36Speaker 2: best acquisitions we can make are our own guys just
- 39:39Speaker 2: performing to their capabilities. But it's now August and cal
- 39:44Speaker 2: Rawley's still hitting in the one hundreds, and Julio Rodriguez
- 39:47Speaker 2: has plummeted since he was in the two seventies with
- 39:50Speaker 2: slug and Josh Naylor is hitting occasionally. He had a
- 39:53Speaker 2: nice opposite field hit last night. When he gets to
- 39:56Speaker 2: the opposite field, he's a much more effective hitter. Than
- 39:58Speaker 2: the deadpool guy he's been for large stretch this season.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Brendan Donovan has a chance to come back, So that
- 40:04Speaker 2: could be the most basic and incremental direct move we
- 40:07Speaker 2: may see before the Twin Series starts tonight or during
- 40:09Speaker 2: the Twin Series would be to put JP Crawford on
- 40:11Speaker 2: the injured list and for Brendan Donovan to come back
- 40:14Speaker 2: and resume third base duties. Donovan's been done at the
- 40:17Speaker 2: minor leagues for an extended time now coming back from
- 40:20Speaker 2: his injury. He hasn't played in a couple of months.
- 40:22Speaker 2: And then you keep Colt Emerson at short and put
- 40:25Speaker 2: Donovan at third. There it does not seem like they're
- 40:30Speaker 2: gonna dfa Rob Repschneider. I mean, he could beat he
- 40:34Speaker 2: could bet thirty and because they're paying him six and
- 40:36Speaker 2: a half million dollars, it seems he's gonna stay on
- 40:38Speaker 2: the roster. And then you're as long as he's on
- 40:40Speaker 2: the roster, you're gonna see the handedness moves like we
- 40:43Speaker 2: saw last night. Because the iPads and the analytics say
- 40:45Speaker 2: it not the eyes doesn't matter what I say. What
- 40:48Speaker 2: move do you want to see? Four nine, four five
- 40:51Speaker 2: one do you want to see? Reschneider gone, well, that's
- 40:53Speaker 2: just rearranging chairs on the deck of the Titanic. Right
- 40:58Speaker 2: handed bat the absolutely need, yes, but what's the move
- 41:02Speaker 2: You got to give up something to get a right
- 41:04Speaker 2: handed bat that would have the impact this team needs.
- 41:06Speaker 2: You need like four right handed bats for the impact
- 41:09Speaker 2: of this team needs. Yeah, I hear Mason Miller, but jessmon,
- 41:13Speaker 2: they don't need a closer, They really don't. And to
- 41:16Speaker 2: give up the capital it would take the prospects and
- 41:19Speaker 2: starters it would take to give up to get the
- 41:21Speaker 2: Mason Miller, who drows one hundred and four or five
- 41:24Speaker 2: miles an hour as one of the premier dominant closers
- 41:27Speaker 2: in the league. And to shuffle Andreas Munoz is a
- 41:30Speaker 2: rolling right now to change his role. Nah, I wouldn't
- 41:34Speaker 2: spend my top prospects in maybe George Kirby and or
- 41:38Speaker 2: Emerson Hancock for that. You got a closer. He's righted himself.
- 41:43Speaker 2: They have. Yeah, they need to go hitting, don't you think? Yes?
- 41:49Speaker 4: And what are you willing to give up for the
- 41:51Speaker 4: thing that I think is most troublesome when it comes
- 41:54Speaker 4: to the Mariner fanhood is that they have those in
- 41:59Speaker 4: that line up who are just not performing.
- 42:03Speaker 3: They have it, they're just not performing.
- 42:05Speaker 4: And and then you see these glimpses dom canzone the
- 42:08Speaker 4: other night, obviously, and then you see Julio have a pop.
- 42:13Speaker 4: So it's really hard to look up and down this
- 42:16Speaker 4: lineup and say what are you willing to give up
- 42:19Speaker 4: and what are you going to get Who's going to
- 42:22Speaker 4: be a game changer. And there's just such a limited
- 42:25Speaker 4: market out there for what we think. Obviously, the right
- 42:29Speaker 4: hand of batting is what we think the target should be,
- 42:31Speaker 4: but it's a limited market.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Randy of Rose Arena is an interesting case because he's
- 42:36Speaker 2: in an unexpiring contract. But he's your only productive right
- 42:39Speaker 2: handed hitter. He's not your only slug hitter productive for
- 42:42Speaker 2: the bulk of the season consistently. Yeah, I know he's
- 42:46Speaker 2: infuriating at times in the field. This team's problem is hitting. Yes,
- 42:50Speaker 2: they've had defensive problem, but this team problem's hitting. I'm
- 42:53Speaker 2: not sure you're can to afford to give up Rosereena
- 42:55Speaker 2: unless you're white Flag and the rest of the season.
- 42:57Speaker 2: And they're not gonna do that.
- 42:58Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, not.
- 43:00Speaker 2: In They're two and a half back in a division
- 43:02Speaker 2: that just blows there's no reason. I mean it does.
- 43:07Speaker 3: You just said it so perfectly.
- 43:09Speaker 2: They're five or six games where five or six game
- 43:11Speaker 2: winning streak from being in first place. Again, that's how
- 43:14Speaker 2: bad the division is. Four nine four five one on
- 43:16Speaker 2: the Komodage Tech sign what do you want to see?
- 43:18Speaker 2: Like right now pronto before you eat? Launch please and
- 43:22Speaker 2: the talkbacks the heart radio app work.
- 43:24Speaker 4: We have a word, Greg, We have a word because
- 43:27Speaker 4: if you guys did not know, we are bringing you
- 43:30Speaker 4: bonus a bucks presented by Bellevue Rare Coins. You've got
- 43:34Speaker 4: a shot at one thousand dollars and we'd be remiss
- 43:37Speaker 4: if we didn't give you this hour's word, which is fun.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Wouldn't it be fun to have an extra thousand dollars
- 43:42Speaker 4: because I really want an extra thousand dollars, but I'm
- 43:46Speaker 4: not qualified for this. So you just go to nine
- 43:48Speaker 4: three three ekjr dot com and you will immediately be
- 43:52Speaker 4: prompted to enter that word. It's three letters and it
- 43:55Speaker 4: is fun. So do it now because the hour is
- 43:58Speaker 4: running out, and we'll give you the next hour's word
- 44:02Speaker 4: with a little more lead time.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we get double headed words. You'll get another word here.
- 44:06Speaker 4: There you go, headlines are next.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Headlines are next, and then you're gonna hear from Nick Venette.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Really great conversation about being a modern sports athlete on
- 44:16Speaker 2: and off the field. Nick Vinette returning to the Seahawks
- 44:18Speaker 2: for a second stint is on next on ninety three
- 44:20Speaker 2: point three KJRFM.
- 44:31Speaker 10: It's a I usually portray that to the young guys,
- 44:35Speaker 10: to show them like, hey, this is what it looks
- 44:36Speaker 10: like to show up to be a pro, to take
- 44:38Speaker 10: care of business and just to focus on the controllables.
- 44:43Speaker 2: What of all those stops, what stood out? Was there
- 44:45Speaker 2: one trade or or signing or or was there one
- 44:51Speaker 2: transition that was better than another that stuck out that
- 44:54Speaker 2: you did it right and one that maybe you learned
- 44:55Speaker 2: you could have done better, and all those stops and transitions.
- 44:58Speaker 10: Yeah, I think after I left Pittsburgh, when I went
- 45:01Speaker 10: to Denver, at that point, I just think I was
- 45:03Speaker 10: in my mind a little too much because I just
- 45:07Speaker 10: I was trying to figure out and analyze, Okay, why
- 45:10Speaker 10: why is this decision being made? Why why is this happening?
- 45:13Speaker 10: And instead of just controlling or focusing on what I
- 45:16Speaker 10: can control and how I can show up my best
- 45:18Speaker 10: version and so that year I, you know, I hired
- 45:20Speaker 10: a mental mindset coach just to focus on, you know, okay,
- 45:24Speaker 10: what are all the things that I can control versus
- 45:26Speaker 10: all the things that I that are out of my
- 45:28Speaker 10: control and just not putting energy towards that. And I
- 45:32Speaker 10: think from that point on, like I think my my
- 45:34Speaker 10: game became more consistent, and I was just putting more
- 45:39Speaker 10: energy towards the things that are gonna it's gonna benefit
- 45:42Speaker 10: me and pouring to myself rather than you know, the
- 45:45Speaker 10: decisions that you know, the front office of the people
- 45:48Speaker 10: upstairs make that you know, they don't always make sense,
- 45:50Speaker 10: but that's not our jobs to to figure out why
- 45:53Speaker 10: or you know, what the case is. So and so
- 45:56Speaker 10: I just kind of made that shift, like you know what,
- 45:58Speaker 10: I'm just gonna show up and like this is what
- 46:00Speaker 10: makes me show up as my best version. That's what
- 46:02Speaker 10: I'm going to focus on. Just do that every day.
- 46:05Speaker 10: And I think that's really what has you know, led
- 46:08Speaker 10: me to go into year eleven, you know now and
- 46:11Speaker 10: how you know, I think it's extending my career in
- 46:13Speaker 10: a way, just to show up more as a professional.
- 46:15Speaker 10: And I, you know, I always learned new things along
- 46:18Speaker 10: the way, people that I talked to or just new methods,
- 46:22Speaker 10: new recovery things that I like to implement it too,
- 46:24Speaker 10: my routine, and so I just I think that's really
- 46:28Speaker 10: helped me, you know, extend my career. And you know,
- 46:32Speaker 10: it's it's allowed teams to feel like they can depend
- 46:34Speaker 10: on me.
- 46:35Speaker 2: We all can see the physical part of what you do.
- 46:37Speaker 2: You know, your height, weight and your forty time, and
- 46:39Speaker 2: we see what you do on the field. But what
- 46:41Speaker 2: got you into a mental coach? Who steered you there
- 46:43Speaker 2: or what made you realize that's a part of your
- 46:46Speaker 2: life and game you wanted to work on. My wife, actually,
- 46:48Speaker 2: my wife did. She's U was your girlfriend when you
- 46:52Speaker 2: were here. Yes, you married after you left, right, Yeah,
- 46:55Speaker 2: we married.
- 46:55Speaker 10: In twenty two, twenty two. We just celebrated our fourth anniversary.
- 46:59Speaker 2: E graduated a few weeks former Miss Idaho. I believe.
- 47:02Speaker 10: Yes, No, she's, uh, you know, she's been a very
- 47:07Speaker 10: good influence in my life. You know, she's because she
- 47:12Speaker 10: she kind of did these things earlier in her life
- 47:15Speaker 10: before we met each other, and she could tell that
- 47:18Speaker 10: I was like in my head and she just she
- 47:19Speaker 10: always like knew what I need and how I could
- 47:22Speaker 10: benefit and so she you know, we all knew that,
- 47:26Speaker 10: you know, Russell Wilson when he was here, like he
- 47:27Speaker 10: had a mindset coach. And so she's like, honestly, you should,
- 47:31Speaker 10: you should try to reach out to his guy, and uh,
- 47:33Speaker 10: you know, see what you're gonna do. And so I
- 47:34Speaker 10: reached out to him. Yes, and then I but I
- 47:38Speaker 10: met he, I was with somebody else that worked along
- 47:42Speaker 10: with him, and so I worked with him for a
- 47:44Speaker 10: couple of years, and you know, it just it made
- 47:48Speaker 10: me go into the play, into the day just with
- 47:51Speaker 10: a more positive mindset, a more like optimistic mindset instead
- 47:57Speaker 10: of like you know they say, like counting. Instead of
- 48:01Speaker 10: counting the reps, I'm making the reps count. You know,
- 48:03Speaker 10: that's the saying. I just kind of take that my
- 48:06Speaker 10: mentality just through everything throughout the day off the field,
- 48:09Speaker 10: on the field. But man, my wife's been, she's been,
- 48:12Speaker 10: she's really she's been a very pivotabal She's played a
- 48:15Speaker 10: very pivotal role in you know, my my journey in
- 48:19Speaker 10: my career. And I don't know if I'd be here
- 48:22Speaker 10: honestly if it wasn't for here, for her, like steering
- 48:25Speaker 10: me in the right directions.
- 48:26Speaker 2: She's the biggest catcher life then exactly.
- 48:28Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, that's good ones, but she's the best.
- 48:32Speaker 2: You mentioned the physical part in the recovery part. Do
- 48:35Speaker 2: you do the hyperbaric chamber or what have you adopted
- 48:38Speaker 2: as you've gone on your.
- 48:39Speaker 10: Yes, yeah, I did get a hyperbaric chamber my own
- 48:43Speaker 10: at my house. It's back in California right now, but
- 48:46Speaker 10: you know, in the off season, I do that. I
- 48:48Speaker 10: got a sauna, I got a cold, I got a
- 48:52Speaker 10: red light panel. You know, I just you know, and
- 48:56Speaker 10: I do have some pt people out there, some dry
- 48:58Speaker 10: needle people, chiroprosers. I mean, these are all things that
- 49:01Speaker 10: I necessarily wasn't doing when I was here. But it's
- 49:04Speaker 10: just because I just wasn't. I didn't really know about that.
- 49:07Speaker 10: I wasn't really introduced to these resources. So I did
- 49:10Speaker 10: along the way. I just as I became aware of
- 49:12Speaker 10: all these things, and you know, you tried out, you
- 49:14Speaker 10: learn like, okay, this works, this doesn't. You just you
- 49:17Speaker 10: kind of zero in on, you know, the things that
- 49:20Speaker 10: work for you, and you know, those are the things
- 49:22Speaker 10: that I just adapted, and you know, I think it's
- 49:26Speaker 10: allowed my body to feel the way it does and
- 49:28Speaker 10: you know, feeling like I could do this for you
- 49:30Speaker 10: know a few more years.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Which which of those during between games weeks do you do?
- 49:35Speaker 2: What's that the hyperbreak chamber, the needles or the Yeah,
- 49:38Speaker 2: I tried, I try to.
- 49:40Speaker 10: You know, you get the benefit by doing it like
- 49:41Speaker 10: two to three times a week. I tried to do
- 49:43Speaker 10: that two to three times a week. The needles. I
- 49:47Speaker 10: like doing that on Mondays, like the day after the game.
- 49:50Speaker 10: Whether it's like needles massages so like they do a
- 49:53Speaker 10: Monday massage, Friday massage, two days before practice the first
- 49:58Speaker 10: prize and two days before the game.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Uh.
- 50:00Speaker 10: Just you know, sometimes you get a little source. It's
- 50:02Speaker 10: you an ideal to get two days of recovery before
- 50:04Speaker 10: you get back out there.
- 50:07Speaker 2: You're you're one of the only ones here that knows
- 50:09Speaker 2: what it was under the other regime and under Pete
- 50:12Speaker 2: Carroll and even what ten years ago, what the Seahawks
- 50:15Speaker 2: are like? What is it now? What's different? What's changed?
- 50:18Speaker 2: N Schnyder's still here. You mentioned some of the front
- 50:20Speaker 2: office people. They're familiar faces to you, but now you
- 50:23Speaker 2: have a new coach and a new coaching step and
- 50:24Speaker 2: a new offense. What's changed as far as the climate,
- 50:27Speaker 2: the tone, the tenor, and the culture.
- 50:29Speaker 10: Here, you know, I think, you know, having the pleasure
- 50:32Speaker 10: to be repeat it was just it was incredible. You know,
- 50:34Speaker 10: Pete's very unique in the way that he uh, how
- 50:37Speaker 10: he operates, you know, he just operates with high energy.
- 50:40Speaker 2: You know.
- 50:41Speaker 10: It just you felt like when every time he came
- 50:43Speaker 10: into work, You're like, I'm gonna have so much fun today.
- 50:45Speaker 10: I don't know what it's going to look like, but
- 50:46Speaker 10: I know I'm gonna have fun, and we're gonna have
- 50:49Speaker 10: fun together collectively. Just how you're in the TVs was
- 50:53Speaker 10: just so energetic. You just you never felt like you
- 50:55Speaker 10: were walking on eggshells at all with him, And I
- 50:59Speaker 10: still feel like that's still true with this regime. But
- 51:03Speaker 10: I think there's also a bigger emphasis on just you know,
- 51:08Speaker 10: how to like fine tune, like the little details that
- 51:13Speaker 10: make a great team. And then you know, I did
- 51:17Speaker 10: notice like the other day, like something that's been new
- 51:20Speaker 10: to me. I have experiences in anywhere event where you know,
- 51:23Speaker 10: one night, instead of having a team meeting, we he
- 51:25Speaker 10: decided that he wanted to break guys out into I
- 51:28Speaker 10: think like twelve thirteen, fourteen groups of you know, like
- 51:31Speaker 10: seven eight people, and you know they'd be coaching each group,
- 51:35Speaker 10: and he would give the coaches, like, you know, a
- 51:37Speaker 10: few questions and then you know, give the guys a chance,
- 51:40Speaker 10: each guy to answer the question. It's just a way
- 51:42Speaker 10: of getting to know each other. Just what kind of
- 51:44Speaker 10: questions Uh not football, you know, I mean like some
- 51:48Speaker 10: of the questions be like, Okay, what does it look
- 51:49Speaker 10: like in the room as you know, what does twelve
- 51:52Speaker 10: as one look.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Like to you?
- 51:53Speaker 10: You know, like some of the sayings and the slogans
- 51:56Speaker 10: that you know he likes to use here.
- 51:59Speaker 2: You know.
- 51:59Speaker 10: Then I was also like, hey, what was your favorite
- 52:01Speaker 10: memory over the summer? You know, and describe what that was.
- 52:04Speaker 10: And so it's like you're getting to learn guys, you know,
- 52:08Speaker 10: what they do like off the field, and you know,
- 52:12Speaker 10: you're just opening up and it's like it's just I
- 52:14Speaker 10: think it just naturally creates this connection with guys that
- 52:17Speaker 10: maybe you normally, like I probably normally wouldn't talk to
- 52:21Speaker 10: someone on the defensive side just because we don't spend
- 52:23Speaker 10: a whole lot of time with each other the other day.
- 52:25Speaker 10: You know, we're always like doing offense, you know, they're
- 52:28Speaker 10: doing their defense stuff. And but I think it's good
- 52:31Speaker 10: to be able to you know, cross the lines and
- 52:34Speaker 10: you know, get to know those guys. It's just when
- 52:36Speaker 10: you have a create like a tighter locker room. You know,
- 52:38Speaker 10: that's that's what creates championship winning teams because you're gonna
- 52:43Speaker 10: do it in practice on the field. Off the field,
- 52:46Speaker 10: I mean, it's you know, and you generally have trust
- 52:49Speaker 10: and love for your brother like that's what makes a difference.
- 52:51Speaker 2: And it's you.
- 52:53Speaker 10: Know, I think that kind of gets lost in the
- 52:54Speaker 10: NFL a little bit just because it's such a business
- 52:56Speaker 10: and you got guys come in and out, and you know,
- 52:58Speaker 10: sometimes it becomes about the mind and you know, what's
- 53:01Speaker 10: best for their family situations and whatnot. There's a lot
- 53:04Speaker 10: of factors that go into it. But man, if you
- 53:06Speaker 10: are able to get that team to really buy into
- 53:09Speaker 10: each other and buy into the culture, I mean, that's
- 53:12Speaker 10: what separates because I mean there's always this a good
- 53:14Speaker 10: talent every team, you know, that's the I think that's
- 53:16Speaker 10: the biggest separator. So that's something I've not experienced, not
- 53:20Speaker 10: even with Pete, not with anywhere else. I Ben, and
- 53:22Speaker 10: I think that's that was pretty cool. I really thought
- 53:24Speaker 10: that was really cool and unique about what they do here.
- 53:27Speaker 2: You're listening to Nick Vannatti's back in a second stint
- 53:29Speaker 2: for the Seahawks, the tight end here at Seahawks training camp.
- 53:32Speaker 2: He's been away for seven years and been all over
- 53:35Speaker 2: the NFL globe, and he's back in Seattle where it
- 53:37Speaker 2: all began in twenty sixteen as a draft pick. You've
- 53:40Speaker 2: had so many offensive coordinators, so many tight ends coaches.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Now you have an offensive coordinator who is a tight
- 53:45Speaker 2: ends coach and Brian Fleury his new job from the
- 53:48Speaker 2: San Francisco forty nine ers. I heard in spring that
- 53:51Speaker 2: they were harder. He was harder on the tight ends
- 53:53Speaker 2: because he knows them and drills them more. Is that true?
- 53:56Speaker 2: And then also, what have you noticed about Brian Fleury
- 53:58Speaker 2: that may be different or unique to all the offenses
- 54:00Speaker 2: you've been in.
- 54:01Speaker 10: Uh, you know, I do notice that there he does,
- 54:05Speaker 10: you know, he features the tight end a little bit.
- 54:07Speaker 10: And some of these installs that we've you know, granted
- 54:08Speaker 10: it's only my fifth day, fifth practice, since being here
- 54:12Speaker 10: for like a week, you know, since getting.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Here from a week ago.
- 54:15Speaker 10: But you know, from what I've gathered is that a
- 54:17Speaker 10: lot of the installs that we put in, like pass plays,
- 54:19Speaker 10: it really does feature the tight end. Obviously the ball,
- 54:23Speaker 10: like the ball doesn't get a spread around. You know,
- 54:24Speaker 10: we have great players like in different spots. But I
- 54:28Speaker 10: think that's cool that, you know, you know, it's always
- 54:30Speaker 10: cool when you have somebody that's you know, comes from
- 54:32Speaker 10: the tight end room, uh kind of has that allegiance,
- 54:36Speaker 10: you know, to the tight ends to be able to
- 54:38Speaker 10: step up in the OC position. And you know, I
- 54:41Speaker 10: think you know, you watch San France, that's they lean
- 54:43Speaker 10: heavily on their tight ends and you know, use check
- 54:46Speaker 10: us the full back and I think you're going to
- 54:48Speaker 10: see a similar thing here. And but you know, you
- 54:51Speaker 10: can't do that if you don't have guys that are dependable,
- 54:54Speaker 10: that you can trust, that are willingly and able to
- 54:57Speaker 10: in capable of, you know, handling the responsibility. So that's
- 55:00Speaker 10: first and foremost. But I you know, what I've noticed
- 55:02Speaker 10: about this tid end group is that, I mean there's
- 55:05Speaker 10: some dogs in this room. Like there's some dogs, and
- 55:07Speaker 10: so I think, you know, that's something to get really
- 55:11Speaker 10: excited about. And it's awesome to be a part of that.
- 55:14Speaker 10: We're gonna see you at full back.
- 55:17Speaker 2: I'll do whatever they want me to lie that you
- 55:19Speaker 2: know I've done it before. You know, that's who used
- 55:22Speaker 2: you on all your stops, who use you most of
- 55:23Speaker 2: full back? Denver? Was it or would I'm trying to
- 55:26Speaker 2: guess when the offenses back then, it was more of
- 55:28Speaker 2: a why the Saints maybe, which.
- 55:34Speaker 6: No, we we had a full man.
- 55:36Speaker 2: You know.
- 55:37Speaker 10: It was very rare, Yeah, very rare that they put
- 55:40Speaker 10: me as a change act. But sometimes just like by formations,
- 55:44Speaker 10: you can kind of end up in a like in
- 55:46Speaker 10: the backfield and like handle those responsibilities. Yeah, I know,
- 55:50Speaker 10: there's like my second thirty here, Like there's a couple
- 55:53Speaker 10: of packages where like they put me in the eye
- 55:54Speaker 10: and just you know, we would run like a will
- 55:57Speaker 10: play and I'd be ISO on a will right the box,
- 56:00Speaker 10: and so I've done that before. You know, If that
- 56:05Speaker 10: that's what they want me to do, then hell yeah,
- 56:07Speaker 10: I'm gonna do it.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Nick Vernette played six games last year for the rival
- 56:11Speaker 2: now rival Los Angeles Rams. What was Sean McVay like
- 56:14Speaker 2: as an offensive mind? Of all the wines you've come.
- 56:16Speaker 10: Across, I mean, he's brilliant, He's it was awesome to
- 56:18Speaker 10: could experience him. You know, I think he's one of
- 56:21Speaker 10: those guys where like he's had so much success, and
- 56:25Speaker 10: I think he's like a trendsetter in a way. You know,
- 56:27Speaker 10: when I got there, you know, they're running very heavily
- 56:30Speaker 10: three tight ends sets and they were having a lot
- 56:33Speaker 10: of success with it. So I think I think that
- 56:36Speaker 10: kind of created this influence. You know, I think in
- 56:39Speaker 10: the draft, I think it was like, what twenty two
- 56:40Speaker 10: tight ends draft in the draft. I mean that's you know,
- 56:43Speaker 10: that's that's a high number compared to most drafts, And
- 56:45Speaker 10: so I think teams are like starting to load up
- 56:47Speaker 10: on guys and potentially looking at what the Rams did
- 56:50Speaker 10: and be like, hey, you know, we can get two
- 56:52Speaker 10: tight ends three tight ends on the field really create
- 56:54Speaker 10: some mismatches and both the run game in the past game.
- 56:58Speaker 10: But man, he's just uh, he's he's a brilliant mind,
- 57:01Speaker 10: and you know, just being able to spend time with him,
- 57:05Speaker 10: like I I definitely gained a lot of like good
- 57:09Speaker 10: information and nuggets just by how he operates and just
- 57:12Speaker 10: his leadership and just how he controls the team, and
- 57:15Speaker 10: it was it was pretty special to be there.
- 57:17Speaker 2: Nick Benet your eleventh year, now, when you got out
- 57:20Speaker 2: of Ohio State, the Seahawks drafty, what was your goal
- 57:22Speaker 2: to play, what would you what were you hoping to play?
- 57:24Speaker 10: You know, I've always told people this that like when
- 57:27Speaker 10: I got here, I never really foresaw the future or
- 57:30Speaker 10: even had a goal of like how long I wanted
- 57:32Speaker 10: to play. And maybe maybe I was wrong to not
- 57:35Speaker 10: have that, uh, but you know, I never thought that
- 57:39Speaker 10: i'd be going to you know, here being here now.
- 57:41Speaker 10: I never thought i'd be going in year eleven. You know,
- 57:43Speaker 10: you just I guess you just don't know how you know,
- 57:46Speaker 10: what direction this can take you. And sometimes like unfortunates
- 57:50Speaker 10: can happen, whether it be injury or just you know,
- 57:52Speaker 10: something's happened where like you know, careers get shut, careers
- 57:55Speaker 10: get cut short a lot. But I'm I mean, you know,
- 58:00Speaker 10: regardless of how my career has gone, like just to
- 58:02Speaker 10: be able to go to New Year eleven and I
- 58:03Speaker 10: feel like it's an accomplishment and just to be able
- 58:05Speaker 10: to say that I played double digit years is you know,
- 58:08Speaker 10: I'm proud of that, and I'm proud of the work
- 58:10Speaker 10: that I put in to uh to continue this journey,
- 58:13Speaker 10: and I'm really happy that's led me back to where
- 58:15Speaker 10: I started. And I'm just excited to be a part
- 58:17Speaker 10: of this. And you know, I'm just I'm fired up
- 58:21Speaker 10: about it.
- 58:22Speaker 2: What's next? It would be storybook for you to end
- 58:24Speaker 2: your career here, would you like multiple years and ended
- 58:27Speaker 2: in Seattle? What's your media goal? Longer term goal? What
- 58:30Speaker 2: do you think? I mean?
- 58:30Speaker 10: Like I said, you know, I really I really invest
- 58:32Speaker 10: a lot on my body and I've I've been very
- 58:34Speaker 10: fortunate injury wise, you know, just to be very healthy
- 58:37Speaker 10: throughout my career, and you know, I think I can
- 58:39Speaker 10: easily squeeze a couple more out, you know, after this year.
- 58:42Speaker 10: And yeah, that was always my goal. I've always had
- 58:44Speaker 10: that vision of you know, I would love to end
- 58:46Speaker 10: it where I started it. You know, it's it's been
- 58:49Speaker 10: a fun kind of wild journey, you know, going a
- 58:53Speaker 10: lot of places. But to be able to you know,
- 58:56Speaker 10: end it where you know, where it all started would
- 58:58Speaker 10: be something special. But you know, like it's like I said,
- 59:01Speaker 10: you know, you never know where that's going to take
- 59:03Speaker 10: you or what could happen. And I just try to focus,
- 59:05Speaker 10: you know, each day by day and just showing up
- 59:08Speaker 10: as my best version and you know how I can
- 59:11Speaker 10: be of help to this football team, and you know,
- 59:13Speaker 10: just using what I what I'm good at, and just
- 59:15Speaker 10: you know, applying that to be to be my absolute best.
- 59:19Speaker 2: Version is okay with a couple more years of this.
- 59:22Speaker 2: For this, she wants me to play a couple of years.
- 59:25Speaker 10: I was thinking like, hey, you know, I'll take it
- 59:26Speaker 10: year by year, and she's like, no, I think you
- 59:28Speaker 10: can play two three more years. And so I got
- 59:31Speaker 10: her full support, which is awesome, which I really appreciate,
- 59:34Speaker 10: you know, because.
- 59:34Speaker 2: It's you know, it's it's not easy.
- 59:36Speaker 10: You know, it's I think really the significant others get
- 59:39Speaker 10: the short end of the stick. You know, people don't
- 59:41Speaker 10: realize just how hard life is when you know you
- 59:44Speaker 10: don't really have a stable home, you know, like when
- 59:47Speaker 10: you're going from city to city, and you know, quite frankly,
- 59:50Speaker 10: a lot of guys like they it's it's hard from
- 59:52Speaker 10: the handle that I think they decide to hang it
- 59:54Speaker 10: up early because they just don't want to go through
- 59:56Speaker 10: the stress of that. And you know, every time we've
- 59:59Speaker 10: got from city to city, she's been she's been so happy,
- 1:00:03Speaker 10: like she's never complained about Oh man, I got to
- 1:00:06Speaker 10: pack everything up and I got to move everything. And
- 1:00:08Speaker 10: now we have a sixteen month old daughter, so that
- 1:00:11Speaker 10: just adds more to it. But man, She's been so
- 1:00:13Speaker 10: supportive and so positive through it all, and I'm just
- 1:00:16Speaker 10: I'm lucky to be able to have her in my
- 1:00:18Speaker 10: life and have that support to continue to do what
- 1:00:22Speaker 10: I love to do on the field.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Your biggest sketch, what's fin by the way, what's fatherhood
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: taught you? I mean that changed it. When I was
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: first to father, it changed my life in perspective.
- 1:00:32Speaker 10: Forever exactly, That's exactly what it did. It changed my perspective.
- 1:00:35Speaker 10: It made me realize, like when when my daughter was born,
- 1:00:39Speaker 10: you know, I'm being I remember being at the hospital
- 1:00:42Speaker 10: and you know, before that point, like I if I
- 1:00:45Speaker 10: missed a workout, I was like, I had anxiety. I'm like, man,
- 1:00:48Speaker 10: I'm not doing enough. I'm getting behind. But man, when
- 1:00:52Speaker 10: I was at the hospital with my daughter and just
- 1:00:53Speaker 10: being with her for you know, the first couple of
- 1:00:55Speaker 10: weeks before I started getting back into it, like I
- 1:00:58Speaker 10: wasn't even thinking about football. I was just thinking about
- 1:01:00Speaker 10: just how blessed and how much gratitude I had just
- 1:01:04Speaker 10: to be able to be a father to this, to
- 1:01:07Speaker 10: this new human that we you know, it was just
- 1:01:10Speaker 10: just incredible, so powerful. And I remember last year when
- 1:01:13Speaker 10: I did get the call to go to Minnesota. You know,
- 1:01:16Speaker 10: typically I'm really excited. I can't wait to go, and
- 1:01:19Speaker 10: you know, part of me was like, man, I'm kind
- 1:01:21Speaker 10: of sad to leave them, like I do, I really
- 1:01:24Speaker 10: want to go, But obviously it all worked out. Are
- 1:01:29Speaker 10: they here with you now? They're not here yet, but
- 1:01:31Speaker 10: they're gonna come. But yeah, yeah, I think at some
- 1:01:33Speaker 10: point they'll come up for a couple of practices. And yeah,
- 1:01:36Speaker 10: I mean, this is where's where I met her. You know,
- 1:01:38Speaker 10: that's where I met Ariza. So it's cool to be
- 1:01:40Speaker 10: able to come back to the city where, you know,
- 1:01:43Speaker 10: where we met each other, and to be able to
- 1:01:45Speaker 10: show our daughter, you know, these memories that we've created
- 1:01:48Speaker 10: here would be really special.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: That's great. Yeah, it's great to have you back, Nick Finette.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: You were all such a stand up guy, especially after losses.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: You stand up and talk for the team, and we
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: always appreciated that. On the beat. It's great, of course, No, thanks, great,
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: thank you, Thank you for the time. Nick Venette Seahawks
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: tight end in his second redo with the Seahawks here
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: at Seahawks Turning Camp. More coming next on ninety three
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: point three kJ R at Them.
- 1:02:31Speaker 11: Greg Jessman I just can't invest any more emotion in
- 1:02:37Speaker 11: the Mariners this year. I've got games that I'm going
- 1:02:40Speaker 11: to this weekend, but I'm not watching them on TV anymore.
- 1:02:44Speaker 11: I just can't. They just they just kill me.
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: They're infuriating.
- 1:02:50Speaker 11: I love Dan Wilson, but I don't think he's the guy.
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: I thought you had two others each.
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: I wanted you to react to that man.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: If the if the fan base is turning on saying
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: I love Dan Wilson, but I don't think he's the guy.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: They've reached a breaking point with the manager Remembory, first
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: time managing at any level, just like Scott's service was,
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: but at least Scott's service. I mean, Okay, that's all
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: I'll say. But I will tell you that Dan Wilson,
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: I've said it before, I'll say it again. He is
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: often handcuffed by some of the moves he can. May
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: I do wish he would just say, I don't care
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: what your iPads and analytics say if they bring in
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: a left hand or Refschneider is not an automatic to
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: go into the lineup. I know he had a double
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: and a home run the other night. It was like
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: a lightning strike. But one is one thirty. I mean,
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: you don't hasn't your gut in your heart, shouldn't tell
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: you that this is my move. I'm going to put
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: in the one thirty guy with the game on the line,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: bases loaded, one out, down five to two. Yeah, but
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: the iPads say that the analytics, Hi.
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it's hard to know the inner workings when we
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: don't exactly know what the inner workings are.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: Obviously.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: We talked to a couple of former gms the other
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: week in Steve Phillips and Jim Bowden, who told us
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: that things have changed and they don't know exactly what's
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: going on inside that clubhouse the phone to phone.
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: We don't know either.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: They say that the point at Boden and the former
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: GM is Steve Phillip, is that they have daily meetings
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: now in Major League Baseball, the general managers saying, Okay,
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: manager tonight, you're gonna do this, You're gonna do that.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: But it's obvious, like this far into the season that
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: they have told that the upper the Poto and Hollander
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: have told Dan Wilson that when they bring in a
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: left hander, you bring in a right hander. Period. End
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: of story that matter if you hit in one thirty,
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: doesn't matter what your gut tells you, what your eyes
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: tell you. I mean, hell, Dominic can Zone was in
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: the same boat. He would never play against left hand
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: and pitching, and now he's an everyday guy. He hit
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: two home runs the other night against left anders, when
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: a month ago they that was a rule. So they
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: show signs of changing and fudging on their rules and
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: betting them a little bit like when Spier came out
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: for a second inning the other night in Texas after
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: you're not supposed to start aging. It's another one of
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: their rules. But all these rules have really hamstrung a
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: guy who doesn't have any experience managing anyway.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Right, yes, exactly, and they annointed him pretty quickly.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Oh yes, all right.
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: This comes from our friend Aaron, who was new to talkbacks,
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: so we welcome the newcomers.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, Jess. It's Aaron, the EMU guy.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: It just occurred to me, I've never actually used the
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: talkback function, and I thought this would be a great
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: way to say.
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: Hello and will not bother you with an em I'm
- 1:05:53Speaker 6: standing on my best and I'm almost done.
- 1:05:56Speaker 10: Then I'll get paid and go treat.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Myself to lunch this afternoon.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I hope to see you out at the farm at
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: some point.
- 1:06:02Speaker 11: I have a great day, Jess.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: That is a very loyal listener.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: And you gotta explain this. He's like, yes, you went
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: and petted.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: No I haven't. I haven't been there yet.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: I haven't had the time to go out there because
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: warm and Fuzzy Farms is a little far from me,
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: and as you know, I'm a workaholic, so I have
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: not had the time to get out there. But he knew,
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: he knew that I was a bird nerd, and had
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: texted in a couple of times telling me that he
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: has EMUs and unfortunately he lost one recently and we
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: are sorry for that, Aaron, But thank you for listening.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: Thank Yes, yes we have exchanged emails about birds and everything,
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: and yeah, I'm a nerd.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: I'm a nerd, Greg, I'm a huge, huge door.
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Have you seen The Big Year?
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Yes, of course I have. Are you kidding me? I've
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: got kifers logged and everything.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: Okay, I figured that is That is a very good film.
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: It is so good. Yeah, yeah, Bill Murray right, and
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Owen Wilson.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: It was Steve Martin it was Owen Wilson who was
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: the guy who kept running out. He was No, it
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: was Steve Martin and Jack Black and and Owen Wilson
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: was a bad guy who kept he won every year.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, that I remember.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: He kept He kept ticking off his wife for just
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: getting up and leaving in the village. Yeah.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: Yeah, but I have done that to my husband.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: I have been like, okay, I just got a notification
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: on one of the various burning apps that I have
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: that there is a rare grossbeak in our area, and
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: so I am leaving.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: I had no idea. Birds. Oh, there are a ton
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: of texts on the takomadads text one four nine four
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: five one about what the Mariners need to do, and
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: there were a lot of them. I mean, we can't
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: get through them all. Two to five three bring a
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: royal up, trade for relief and a right handed hit
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: or a good one, not a platoon. Dan needs to go.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: He has no handle in the clubhouse.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: Okay, well I think that a lot of people kind
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: of agree with that.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: Right now.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Three to six h fire the manager ninety five is over. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: that's next weekend. They're going to have a fiftieth anniversary
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: of the Mariners on the weekend series against the Rays.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: A lot of the fifty top fifty Mariner players in
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: history are going to be back for that, including a
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: home run derby two six. There's nothing this team can
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: do right now, no one on the team and hitting
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: the worst manager in baseball. They are terrible defensively and
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: they play like they have no faith in anything they're doing.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Hopefully a new manager can make a run next year.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: That is, if there even is a next year. Good point.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: A lot of people think it's going to be a
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: walkout and they're really going to have a season, especially
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: if to owners want to install a salary cap. Good
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: luck for that. But this year is over. In my opinion,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: there is no one available on the market that is
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: a difference maker. It's on the next year. Josh two
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: five three trade for Otto, Loop hasn't moved Emerson to third,
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: JP to I injured list, bring up a Royal and
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: move Randy to periodic DH. Periodic DH for your best hitter.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: I don't know about that. Four to five hitters failed
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: three fourths of the time. Pitching defense doesn't. Miller is
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: under contract for two club control for two more seasons
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: you are trading for the next three years. Two six
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Rayley Kirby Stein Smith a San Diego for Tatis. San
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: Diego would not give up Tattas for that. No package
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: Kirby in the deal. Three six zero says for trade
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: for a hitting third basement and package Kirby in the deal.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Require now about C. J. Adams as a starting shortstop
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: with Colt manning third and Donovan spelling him as a
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: utility outfield. Or trade Hancock Montese plus one other top
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: one hundred prospect, then call up Michael Royo. Send Wilson
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: to the bars. They mean Weston Wilson.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, he's been getting a lot of flack.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Unfortunately triple A player playing third base.
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: Yeah, he is Greg.
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: Before we get to more of these, we want to
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: give people a little more lead time on our word
- 1:10:26Speaker 4: of the hour.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: When it comes to the big bucks that are presented
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: by Bellevue Rare Coins, this hour's word is rich. I
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: don't know one thousand dollars would make me feel rich
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: right now, but that is your chance.
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: At one thousand dollars. Go to nine three three KJR
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: dot com. Enter the word.
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: You'll be prompted immediately, so we make it easy for
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: you here and enter the word rich.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: Three six thank you, three six os is I want
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Dan Wilson fired right now. It's amazing how quickly that
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: gets players attention. Two five three takes exception to me
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: calling Houston the trash cans. He said, trash cans versus
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: the Twins at a three game set in Seattle this
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: weekend fixed your preview.
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, the Astros are the trash cans.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: I mean, I get what they're saying.
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: They're making a joke, but no, the Astros are the
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: trash cans.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Steve from the two oh six. They aren't getting rid
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: of Dan Wilson. He had to poto deflect people from
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: talking about cheap owners.
- 1:11:25Speaker 12: M three six, Oh, Greg, I haven't had the opportunity
- 1:11:31Speaker 12: to ask you your cocktail choice for a Friday happy hour,
- 1:11:34Speaker 12: and I can't remember the last Friday happy hour I've
- 1:11:36Speaker 12: been on.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Ryan and Scottsdale. I'm an old fashioned guy. Ryan two
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: five three thanks Maryan two five three says we need
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: actually it's two five to two. Look with where that is.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: Two f two says we clearly need to let Rath
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: Schneider go been playing two to three months longer than
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: he would anywhere else.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: That's a Carolina man.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: All right, thank you, thanks for listening from there and
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: the five o three. Look what happened to the Boston
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Red Sox after they fired their manager. Come on, Jerry,
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: do your job. Get rid of Dan. He's a great
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: guy that has no business being a man, your manager
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: in a major league clubhouse. Thank you for your text,
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Thank you for your talk bags. We're out of Seahawks
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: training camp. The music's starting to get cranking. Ian Furnessa's
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: out here too, the Mayor and Maple Valley's gonna tell
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: us what he has on his show coming up next.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Ninety three point three KJRFM, Welcome back, thanks for listening.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Happy Friday, Happy seafair weekend. Hopefully you can get out
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: and watch the Blue Angel let a show that is man.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: They were over I ninety Bridge yesterday on my way
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: home from Seahawks and that was amazing.
- 1:12:59Speaker 13: We're going here pretty quick, yeah they should. They just
- 1:13:01Speaker 13: left the facility about half hour ago.
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: So really cool. Yeah, it's really cool. The precision and
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: the skill those guys have, the reaction time that you've
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: give it a shout out to the Navy guys. Huh,
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: I know, I am. I have to give it up
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: for them. They are amazing. Is our door still open?
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: It is okay, escape pad.
- 1:13:24Speaker 13: We're in an investigation right now. We're knee deep into
- 1:13:26Speaker 13: an investigation here, trying to figure out.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Who the donkey is. It keeps closing the door. Another
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: blue sky day here at training. Gave me in for
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: net joining me. What have you noticed the first day
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: of PAD? Just would you check out?
- 1:13:37Speaker 13: It's just a different feel right, like like a little
- 1:13:40Speaker 13: more energy. You know, there's I know that there's a
- 1:13:45Speaker 13: lot of dudes on both sides of the ball depending
- 1:13:48Speaker 13: on the position that just they.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Don't want to be in pads. It's hard. It's all
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: those things.
- 1:13:53Speaker 13: And then there's the and then there's also at the
- 1:13:54Speaker 13: same time, like I'm so sick of like every interception
- 1:13:57Speaker 13: being a touchdown, yeah, you know, or every running flying
- 1:14:00Speaker 13: through for fifty yards when we just you know, we
- 1:14:03Speaker 13: give him a two hand touch like so I I
- 1:14:06Speaker 13: mean a little small skirmish, nothing big. And you know,
- 1:14:09Speaker 13: we asked Mike McDonald about that yesterday when he joined
- 1:14:11Speaker 13: Hugh and I and and he's like, yeah, I like
- 1:14:14Speaker 13: a little bit of it, just a little bit, not
- 1:14:15Speaker 13: too much.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: Gotta know where to draw the line. Yeah, and they did.
- 1:14:18Speaker 13: But uh, yeah, it was I was spirited, I would
- 1:14:21Speaker 13: say yesterday. But that's what you expect and the way
- 1:14:24Speaker 13: we go. And you know what the thing is, I
- 1:14:26Speaker 13: was just thinking about this. It's warm today, feel a
- 1:14:29Speaker 13: little warmer today than happens. But really we haven't had
- 1:14:33Speaker 13: those just Africa hot days like we've had in the past. Yeah,
- 1:14:36Speaker 13: and I think I think that lends itself to better practices,
- 1:14:39Speaker 13: the fact that guys aren't just dying out here in
- 1:14:43Speaker 13: the heat, right, so the enough of a breeze coming
- 1:14:45Speaker 13: off the lake every day it's been it's been good.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: And even the hottest days here are nothing compared to
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: most of the rest of the league with the humidity
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: and everything else. But what do you got going today?
- 1:14:54Speaker 13: We're gonna uh check in with George Hallani coming up
- 1:14:57Speaker 13: top right now, or it's about time we talked to him.
- 1:14:59Speaker 13: I'm sat here and listened to rag And and Corbin,
- 1:15:02Speaker 13: the president and vice president of his fan club, just
- 1:15:04Speaker 13: rave about him for the last two years. We're gonna
- 1:15:07Speaker 13: get Hallane on today. So I said that in Corba goes,
- 1:15:09Speaker 13: I have the goats. I'm like, okay, let's just take
- 1:15:11Speaker 13: a step back. But no, I hey, good story. I mean,
- 1:15:14Speaker 13: just a great story. Undrafted free agent comes in here
- 1:15:16Speaker 13: and he's you know, he's a he's very much part
- 1:15:18Speaker 13: of this football team.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:15:20Speaker 13: He showed yesterday and pastors pick up him and Ernest
- 1:15:23Speaker 13: Jones going toe to toe was fantastic. I did, I
- 1:15:25Speaker 13: got it. I caught that. That was highly entertaining. And
- 1:15:28Speaker 13: then you know that's probably you know, with that group
- 1:15:31Speaker 13: that Ernest was with and with Halane, he was best
- 1:15:34Speaker 13: on best, right, Yeah, so that was good to see you.
- 1:15:38Speaker 13: Uh and you know he good special teams player, catch the.
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: Ball out of the backfield. You kind of need that
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: plug and play guy. Don't share. They can do everything, yep.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: And and he's that guy.
- 1:15:47Speaker 13: And I think he's I think like a few of
- 1:15:50Speaker 13: these guys like him, Drake Thomas, Tyo, Cotta guys that
- 1:15:54Speaker 13: have come out of nowhere and they're now firmly entrenched
- 1:15:57Speaker 13: in the team. That's kind of cool to see you.
- 1:15:59Speaker 13: I like those stories, to be honest with you. I mean,
- 1:16:00Speaker 13: it's great, Devin coach yesterday. It's great to have big names.
- 1:16:03Speaker 13: I like those stories, I really do.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: And I know you.
- 1:16:05Speaker 13: I know you do too, you you know, I mean
- 1:16:07Speaker 13: it's you got Jaylen Milroll today, I have for Monday,
- 1:16:09Speaker 13: I guess would be afterwards.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's good. So Danny O'Neil on today. Danie
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: O'Neill's coming on today one twenty. We'll have him.
- 1:16:16Speaker 13: We're gonna replay for those who may have missed it,
- 1:16:19Speaker 13: the Mike McDonald conversation with Hugh Millan and I yesterday,
- 1:16:23Speaker 13: Bigger picture stuff. Really, to be honest with you, like
- 1:16:25Speaker 13: kind of deep dive in that regard. So we'll check
- 1:16:28Speaker 13: in with him coming up today at twelve twenty and
- 1:16:30Speaker 13: then Danny one twenty. Rob rang Well, he was out
- 1:16:35Speaker 13: here in his dual role of Fox Sports dot Com
- 1:16:38Speaker 13: and scout for the BC Lions.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Poaching players for the cflaching knows about to get cut.
- 1:16:43Speaker 13: He's gonna join us at too, and I think one
- 1:16:44Speaker 13: of the things he's gonna tell us is that there
- 1:16:46Speaker 13: is no poaching. He says, a talent here is just
- 1:16:48Speaker 13: it's deeper than it's been. He says, a lot of
- 1:16:50Speaker 13: years you can't come out here. And he knows that
- 1:16:52Speaker 13: there's five or six guys that can get north of
- 1:16:54Speaker 13: the border. He doesn't think that's the case, is sure?
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Really? So even cut guys are going to go to
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: the NFL, he thinks.
- 1:16:59Speaker 13: So, yeah, yeah, it's it's that's which just is incredible
- 1:17:03Speaker 13: when you think about it, because wouldn't common sense tell
- 1:17:07Speaker 13: you that the success that they had, and you're an
- 1:17:10Speaker 13: undrafted free agent, you can pick and choose where you go,
- 1:17:13Speaker 13: why would you go somewhere where the roster's fairly well established,
- 1:17:17Speaker 13: fairly young, well set. But maybe guys want to come
- 1:17:20Speaker 13: and have a chance to win.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: Yeah, something to be said for that. Isn't something to
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: be said for that? Yes?
- 1:17:25Speaker 13: Yeah, So we got a you know, a fun show
- 1:17:27Speaker 13: coming up today on a Friday. Well, we have a
- 1:17:29Speaker 13: little clip too if people missed it, h ed Zoe
- 1:17:31Speaker 13: and Johnny for Island. Johnny uh had ed Zone on
- 1:17:34Speaker 13: Tuesday and uh Johnny prank called him in the middle
- 1:17:38Speaker 13: of the show. So it was it was fun. We
- 1:17:40Speaker 13: had a good time with that too. So that's coming
- 1:17:41Speaker 13: up actually Wednesday, we did that. But yeah, we'll play
- 1:17:43Speaker 13: a little clip of that little fun, little fun thing.
- 1:17:45Speaker 13: We need a little fun this week. It's been kind
- 1:17:47Speaker 13: of under those weeks.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: Right, Yes, it has in our area. So Eddie Olcik
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: no longer going to be on the crack and Audio
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: Networks broadcast his call. His call.
- 1:17:55Speaker 13: Got to make sure people know that because it's not
- 1:17:56Speaker 13: an ESPN. How about Carl Rabbits still doing games with
- 1:17:59Speaker 13: you and laid off?
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. Would you host a couple of shows?
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: There's the second I'm.
- 1:18:10Speaker 13: When they put me on waivers, which could happen at
- 1:18:12Speaker 13: any point in time. When I'm on waivers for the
- 1:18:15Speaker 13: purpose of giving me my unconditional release, I'm out.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: You're a nun. You're You're unconditionally gone. I am thought. Yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: Charls a much better man than most of us. Would
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: you know how many stories?
- 1:18:26Speaker 13: How many stories you're gonna dump out the TNT and
- 1:18:28Speaker 13: they say, we don't need you anymore. We fired those
- 1:18:32Speaker 13: things left, right and sideways? Hey let me, Hey, I
- 1:18:35Speaker 13: got an interest to right four or five more stories.
- 1:18:36Speaker 13: Don't worry about Pam. Y'all, good God, thank you kidding me,
- 1:18:41Speaker 13: Thank you O, thank you.
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Thank you for listening all week. Greg Bell, Jessin McIntyre.

- 1:18:52Speaker 2: seafair and enjoy the Blue Angels. He ends up next
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: from Seahawks training camp on ninety three point three kJ RFM.
