- 0:15Speaker 2: The views and opinions expressed on this program do not
- 0:18Speaker 2: necessarily reflect the views and opinions of five adwchs it's
- 0:22Speaker 2: employees or WVRC media.
- 0:47Speaker 3: You're listening to five adwch's the Voice of Charleston. Good morning,
- 0:50Speaker 3: thanks for tuning in. I'm Dell Cooper. It is what
- 0:52Speaker 3: if we will twenty five minutes past the hour. It
- 0:55Speaker 3: is Wednesday morning here in Charleston, and things are looking
- 0:59Speaker 3: pretty good approaching the holiday season. We don't have an
- 1:03Speaker 3: expert for the for the normal side of things here
- 1:05Speaker 3: for you this morning, But much like last week, Ron
- 1:08Speaker 3: Hughes and I came on to tell you a little
- 1:09Speaker 3: bit about w v bargains before we launched, and now
- 1:12Speaker 3: we're right in the middle of the launch, literally right
- 1:14Speaker 3: in the middle of the launch. It's hump day, it's Wednesday.
- 1:16Speaker 3: This thing goes through Friday. Ron joins me once again
- 1:17Speaker 3: on the radio, Ron, How you doing this morning, I'm great,
- 1:19Speaker 3: Thanks for having me on, absolutely and looking forward to
- 1:22Speaker 3: always having these conversations because you know we've been We
- 1:25Speaker 3: told folks about w V Bargains last time, and we'll
- 1:27Speaker 3: we'll do that a little bit again this time. But
- 1:29Speaker 3: this is really a massively fun auction that we put
- 1:33Speaker 3: on every year. And if you go to the website
- 1:34Speaker 3: right now, it's WV bargains dot com, WV bargains dot com.
- 1:37Speaker 3: You can check that out and you can go to Charleston,
- 1:40Speaker 3: which we would suggest you do because those are your
- 1:42Speaker 3: hyper local businesses. These aren't you know, these aren't things
- 1:45Speaker 3: that we're selling from out of state or from national
- 1:47Speaker 3: brands or something along those lines.
- 1:49Speaker 4: As far as the Hugeson is broken down, it is
- 1:51Speaker 4: broken down by Morgantown, Charleston, Beckley, Clarksburg, Martinsburg, Kaiser, I
- 1:56Speaker 4: mean Cumberland. So because we have already four stations around
- 2:01Speaker 4: the state, we break up the local businesses by their
- 2:05Speaker 4: physical locations. So our stations, our seven stations represented in Charleston,
- 2:11Speaker 4: worked with local businesses to give you items at up
- 2:14Speaker 4: to sixty five percent off, and if you know what
- 2:16Speaker 4: a silent auction is. This is basically it. You don't
- 2:21Speaker 4: have to do anything really fancy or special. We don't
- 2:24Speaker 4: have a licensed auctionneer to auction it off live. You
- 2:27Speaker 4: go online, you make a bid, If you get outbid,
- 2:30Speaker 4: you get a chance to place another bid. But there
- 2:33Speaker 4: are dozens of items here from local businesses here in Kanawha,
- 2:38Speaker 4: Putnam Counties, maybe one or two in Cable County, but
- 2:41Speaker 4: just right here in the area.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And if you go and you're looking through the Charleston
- 2:45Speaker 3: area one and maybe you don't see exactly what you're
- 2:47Speaker 3: looking for, there are other regions and you can break
- 2:49Speaker 3: it down by category instead of city. And the reason
- 2:52Speaker 3: it's set up like this is we've explained before and
- 2:54Speaker 3: like Ron was just talking to, we work with our
- 2:58Speaker 3: clients locally for these So the same goes for our
- 3:01Speaker 3: Morgantown office or Martinsburg office and so on and so forth.
- 3:04Speaker 3: But those deals are still available to you. If you see,
- 3:06Speaker 3: like a motorcycle that's in Morgantown that you really want
- 3:10Speaker 3: to get and it's a great deal, you can still
- 3:12Speaker 3: buy it. Although it's it was that region's deal that
- 3:15Speaker 3: they put together. You have to go pick it up.
- 3:17Speaker 3: But other than that, if it's sixty percent off, it's
- 3:19Speaker 3: worth travel to drive.
- 3:20Speaker 4: You're going to more than make up for the extra
- 3:22Speaker 4: gas you paid. But if you follow along with the website,
- 3:25Speaker 4: if you want to look at it while we're talking,
- 3:27Speaker 4: and go on your phone or tablet or computer at
- 3:30Speaker 4: wv bargains dot com, you can see all of the
- 3:33Speaker 4: items there and by city. But if you go to
- 3:37Speaker 4: categories and you say, well, I just want to look
- 3:39Speaker 4: at all the lawn equipment and I don't mind to drive,
- 3:41Speaker 4: So go to categories, you know, click on the little
- 3:46Speaker 4: gray box that says categories, and you'll see the cities. First, well,
- 3:51Speaker 4: you see a featured item, you'll see the cities Morgantown, Clarksburg, Beckley, Charleston,
- 3:55Speaker 4: so forth. And then it gets into a breakdown of categories.
- 3:59Speaker 4: So you have automotive, furniture to core, health and beauty,
- 4:02Speaker 4: getaway vacations, jewelry, Home and Garden, which is going to
- 4:06Speaker 4: be where all of a you know, like the lawn equipment,
- 4:09Speaker 4: the mowers, the tractors, those type of things, tools, sporting goods,
- 4:15Speaker 4: outdoors which is where you'll see the ATVs and motorcycles.
- 4:18Speaker 4: And then there's exercise recreation. We've got quite a few
- 4:22Speaker 4: annual pool passes. We've got some indoor pool passes from
- 4:26Speaker 4: the South Charleston Community Center. There's also fitness programs from
- 4:31Speaker 4: from Hot Works and the Tri County YMCA and South
- 4:34Speaker 4: Charleston Community Center in that category for example. But you've
- 4:38Speaker 4: got electronics, gift certificates, education appliances. We've had tattoos before.
- 4:46Speaker 4: I don't think we have any this time, toys and
- 4:48Speaker 4: so forth. So any category you're looking for, it'll show
- 4:51Speaker 4: everything from around the state that has to do with
- 4:53Speaker 4: our company, WVRC Media. But if you only want to
- 4:56Speaker 4: look at the things that are in Charleston, click on
- 4:58Speaker 4: that category. You'll see you'll see all of them.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really amazing when you go through and you
- 5:03Speaker 3: look at them, and I like the little category number indicators.
- 5:06Speaker 3: You can see what categories really have a ton of stuff,
- 5:08Speaker 3: not only by city, but when you go down into
- 5:10Speaker 3: the different categories and you can see, you know, there's
- 5:12Speaker 3: tons of guest certificates, electronics, different things along those lines,
- 5:15Speaker 3: and it's just it's amazing to me, both in Charleston
- 5:18Speaker 3: and outside of Charleston, just how incredible some of these
- 5:20Speaker 3: things are. I was just randomly browsing through the site
- 5:22Speaker 3: the other day and again for sixty sixty sixty five
- 5:26Speaker 3: percent off. There was a portable seapack machine that you
- 5:29Speaker 3: can take on the airplane with you. I mean for
- 5:30Speaker 3: folks that need those that have problems. That was out
- 5:33Speaker 3: of the Charleston area. But still, if that's something that
- 5:35Speaker 3: you're looking for to get it, to get it for
- 5:37Speaker 3: under five hundred dollars, something that's the normal cost is
- 5:40Speaker 3: over fifteen hundred dollars, that's a good deal, man.
- 5:42Speaker 4: It's an excellent deal. And if somebody's listening from out
- 5:45Speaker 4: of town, it'd certainly be worth the drive. I used
- 5:47Speaker 4: to have somebody that would buy things from a furniture
- 5:50Speaker 4: store here locally on our auction and drive down from
- 5:53Speaker 4: Morgantown because it was worth it for that type of item.
- 5:56Speaker 4: But if you'll look, Charleston has the most items. Charleston
- 6:00Speaker 4: has one hundred and twenty four items to pick from.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Cumberland has ninety six, Morgantown has seventy five, so seventy
- 6:09Speaker 4: two from Clarksburg also, So there's a good indication that
- 6:13Speaker 4: probably in Charleston there's something you want. But if you
- 6:16Speaker 4: don't see what you want, go to the categories look
- 6:18Speaker 4: and see. You'll probably see it. I don't think we
- 6:20Speaker 4: have a riding mower here in Charleston, but I think
- 6:23Speaker 4: there's one in one of the other cities, either Cumberland
- 6:27Speaker 4: or Beckley. But here, as soon as you go to
- 6:30Speaker 4: the top of the page under Charleston, you've got first
- 6:33Speaker 4: thing you see is a family of four season pool
- 6:35Speaker 4: pass to Saint Albans City Pool, which is a great
- 6:38Speaker 4: Olympic sized pool. And if you just think of somebody
- 6:42Speaker 4: that might like that for Christmas a two hundred and
- 6:45Speaker 4: twenty five dollars value, you get it for ninety bucks.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Great great thing to give away for a family you
- 6:51Speaker 4: know that would want to go to the pool during
- 6:53Speaker 4: summer at the City of Saint Albans City Park.
- 6:58Speaker 3: You can. And that's the thing. Although we're in the
- 7:00Speaker 3: time of year, you know, the weather is finally starting
- 7:02Speaker 3: to turn cold, so we're starting to think about the
- 7:03Speaker 3: cold weather type things. But there's tons of things on here.
- 7:06Speaker 3: If you're planning for what you're doing next season, next
- 7:08Speaker 3: summer with your kids, whatever it might be, there's tons
- 7:11Speaker 3: of things on there that that you can find that
- 7:13Speaker 3: and everybody knows, like when you go shopping for Christmas
- 7:16Speaker 3: or anything else. Uh, pre planting, pre planning and buying
- 7:19Speaker 3: ahead of time will save you tons of money. And
- 7:20Speaker 3: this is just another one of the circumstances where that
- 7:22Speaker 3: can help out absolutely.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I mean, there are things that are that are seasonal.
- 7:26Speaker 4: I did see a snowblower from from Gravely down there
- 7:29Speaker 4: in Dunbar. But there's also lighting, you know, from from
- 7:33Speaker 4: Leonard's Electric. It's almost time to be thinking about tires
- 7:37Speaker 4: and uh, you know, maybe you're looking for a winter
- 7:39Speaker 4: tread or just make sure you get your tires replaced
- 7:42Speaker 4: before the snow and ice gets here. Eddie's Tire there
- 7:46Speaker 4: in Winfield and PoCA have certificates for well, you can
- 7:50Speaker 4: use anything there. Use the certificate for anything there. But
- 7:53Speaker 4: they do have tires, but they also have uh you know,
- 7:56Speaker 4: auto repair, brakes, so forth, oil change, tune ups. Use
- 7:59Speaker 4: that certific for whatever you want.
- 8:01Speaker 3: And that's the nice thing about it is it's not
- 8:03Speaker 3: only just for the tires, although that's a great deal
- 8:04Speaker 3: for the tires, because it is crazy even if you
- 8:06Speaker 3: have a relatively small car, who has small cars anymore?
- 8:08Speaker 2: Right?
- 8:09Speaker 3: I happen to have one but even if you have
- 8:11Speaker 3: relatively small cars, the price of tires if just are
- 8:15Speaker 3: incredible anymore.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Right, and five hundred dollars certificate that you get for
- 8:18Speaker 4: two hundred bucks, you automatically save three hundred dollars exactly.
- 8:22Speaker 3: If you pair a couple of those together, you can
- 8:24Speaker 3: probably get all of your tires, maybe your oil change,
- 8:30Speaker 3: and your inspection sticker and all that stuff as well,
- 8:32Speaker 3: and get a considerable discount for that. I mean that's
- 8:34Speaker 3: not a bad idea.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Absolutely, But you know, you think outside of cars, there
- 8:38Speaker 4: is also furniture from Dunbar Furniture. You can get a
- 8:41Speaker 4: five hundred dollars certificate for as little as two hundred
- 8:44Speaker 4: dollars by placing a bid. A lot of times people
- 8:48Speaker 4: want an armi or maybe a quilt chest, hope chest
- 8:53Speaker 4: type thing for Christmas. Excellent place to look at things
- 8:56Speaker 4: like that.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Yeah, my entire living room and kind of sweet area
- 9:01Speaker 3: exit living room is it's all dumber furniture stuff that
- 9:04Speaker 3: I got there. I mean it's a decade ago now,
- 9:06Speaker 3: so I mean it guess it goes to.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Show you I always had quality furniture. Now they're in
- 9:10Speaker 4: their second generation. I knew the original a father. I
- 9:13Speaker 4: remember working with him back in the eighties on advertising,
- 9:16Speaker 4: and they've just hung in there, you know, kept up,
- 9:19Speaker 4: watched the other places come and go, and it's family
- 9:22Speaker 4: place and if you want to deal with local people,
- 9:24Speaker 4: it's a great it's a great place to start.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I got I got great service over there. And
- 9:28Speaker 3: and it's it's really something else when you when you
- 9:32Speaker 3: go somewhere that and there's a difference between going to
- 9:35Speaker 3: and everybody talks about the big box stores, but seriously,
- 9:38Speaker 3: when you could go and you can actually talk about
- 9:39Speaker 3: the manufacturing of the furniture. This is where it was made,
- 9:42Speaker 3: This is where the wood's from. This is the kind
- 9:43Speaker 3: of brackets that they put on the interior of it,
- 9:45Speaker 3: and this is how they put it together. This is
- 9:46Speaker 3: how it's refortified. That's the kind of service that you
- 9:49Speaker 3: get when you go to a local business as opposed
- 9:50Speaker 3: to you know, you just go to one of the
- 9:52Speaker 3: big stores and they tell you, well, this is what
- 9:54Speaker 3: the sheet says, it was made here, and this is
- 9:56Speaker 3: the material. You know, you don't really get any inside
- 9:58Speaker 3: information that way.
- 9:59Speaker 4: This is where it was shipped. Yeah, yeah, that's pretty
- 10:01Speaker 4: much all the owls is on it. But you'll notice here.
- 10:04Speaker 4: You know, we can't really do this promotion with with
- 10:08Speaker 4: chain stores, you know, especially box stores. They's just nobody
- 10:12Speaker 4: local to approve it. So everything we have is with
- 10:14Speaker 4: a local business. So you're helping a local business out
- 10:17Speaker 4: and helping yourself out while you, uh, while you get
- 10:19Speaker 4: a pretty good, pretty good deal. I mean, because it's Christmas.
- 10:23Speaker 4: I see things that would be relatively good Christmas presents,
- 10:26Speaker 4: like jewelry from Pettit Jewelry or Thomas Jewelers over in
- 10:33Speaker 4: in Kanaha City, Petits up in South Hill.
- 10:35Speaker 3: If you have your idea on something, you can even
- 10:37Speaker 3: use these to make your Christmas cheaper. So you don't
- 10:39Speaker 3: have to get this certificate just to give it, although
- 10:41Speaker 3: you can certainly get it. You can get it at
- 10:43Speaker 3: the discount and then use it for yourself if you
- 10:45Speaker 3: have your eye on a particular item that you want
- 10:46Speaker 3: to get for somebody and it can help reduce the
- 10:48Speaker 3: cost of the thing that you want to get.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Absolutely, absolutely, you do not have to give this certificate away.
- 10:53Speaker 4: You can just go in buy earrings or a necklace
- 10:56Speaker 4: for your.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Give it to me. There's all kinds of things you
- 10:58Speaker 3: can do with yeah, you know, send it into Ron
- 11:01Speaker 3: a tribute.
- 11:02Speaker 4: You can say, hey, Ron, thanks for working so hard
- 11:04Speaker 4: on this auction. Here's a five hundred dollars certificate to
- 11:07Speaker 4: buy yourself a piece of gold nugget or something like that. Yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 4: that's that's that's very true.
- 11:11Speaker 3: We've talked before about the why memberships that are on
- 11:14Speaker 3: here too, and there's a there's a whole slew of
- 11:15Speaker 3: the why memberships and what's nice about these these are
- 11:18Speaker 3: year long memberships, and if you don't know your community wise,
- 11:21Speaker 3: it's not just you go there to do your grind
- 11:23Speaker 3: on the gym. You know that, you go and you
- 11:25Speaker 3: get your steps in or whatever, and then you go
- 11:26Speaker 3: to the shower and you go to work. There's so
- 11:28Speaker 3: many activities and things that goes on it are wise
- 11:30Speaker 3: that that having a membership is really a very very
- 11:34Speaker 3: good thing for your lifestyle, because there's there's all kinds
- 11:37Speaker 3: of things that having a membership either gets you for
- 11:39Speaker 3: free or exteep discounts and activities that go on the
- 11:42Speaker 3: while on top of the gym and everything else.
- 11:44Speaker 4: They started as you know, kind of a social organization originally.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Some of those song it tells you about it.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, don't listen too deeply.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Well, yeah, but still, I mean level they.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Used to have, like it would be like a bed
- 11:59Speaker 4: and breakfast or hostole or something like that. It's kind
- 12:01Speaker 4: of how they got started. But this particular why the
- 12:05Speaker 4: Tri County Y MCA in Putnam County is is huge.
- 12:09Speaker 4: You do have your typical fitness things, but they also
- 12:11Speaker 4: have a lot of sports, basketball, camping for kids, indoor
- 12:15Speaker 4: swimming pool which might be the only one down that way.
- 12:19Speaker 4: I don't I don't think there is an indoor pool
- 12:21Speaker 4: anywhere else. So you want to keep swimming over over
- 12:26Speaker 4: the winter, it's an excellent place to to get a certificate.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just important for these types of things you
- 12:31Speaker 3: keep in mind that there's so many benefits sometimes that
- 12:34Speaker 3: comes to you know, memberships or different things like that.
- 12:36Speaker 3: As we talk about each of these things individually, there's
- 12:39Speaker 3: there's just different benefits that come into mind. Not to mention,
- 12:41Speaker 3: you know, if you if you are trying to stay
- 12:43Speaker 3: in shape, or you're you want to give a gift
- 12:44Speaker 3: for someone who is, Uh, those are great, Uh, those
- 12:47Speaker 3: are great ways to do to do that. We talked
- 12:49Speaker 3: about this a little bit the last time we were
- 12:50Speaker 3: on the air, but but it seems like that when
- 12:53Speaker 3: I talk to folks about this and they're browsing on
- 12:55Speaker 3: things on here. In fact, I think uh uh. President
- 12:58Speaker 3: of the company, George Volunteer even talked about the fireplaces.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Some of the gas fireplaces that are in here are
- 13:03Speaker 3: super duper nice. I mean, if that's something that you're
- 13:05Speaker 3: looking for. My wife is actually size wise, the one
- 13:08Speaker 3: on here doesn't quite match what we were looking for.
- 13:11Speaker 3: I was really hoping it would because esthetically it was
- 13:13Speaker 3: exactly what we wanted. But these things are super nice.
- 13:16Speaker 3: And to have these kind of gas style fireplaces to
- 13:19Speaker 3: put in your home, they give you the nice comfort
- 13:21Speaker 3: without I mean, frankly, the difficulty of keeping a wood
- 13:25Speaker 3: fireplace right.
- 13:26Speaker 4: And if you have a fireplace and you don't want
- 13:29Speaker 4: to burn wood anymore, there's a golden blunt hickory gas
- 13:34Speaker 4: log set with a burner from Fireside and Patio and
- 13:38Speaker 4: Cross Lanes. Excellent piece. You know, if you want some
- 13:42Speaker 4: warmth and you want the ambiance, and you decide I'm
- 13:45Speaker 4: not going to burn wood anymore. I want something a
- 13:48Speaker 4: little cleaner and safer. But there's also in that same
- 13:51Speaker 4: line there's also a pellet stove, which is also easier
- 13:54Speaker 4: to work with than wood if you are interested in that.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Pellets are pretty well you biquit as you can get
- 14:01Speaker 4: them anywhere to keep it fueled up. And it's fairly automatic.
- 14:05Speaker 4: The hopper just kind of feeds it in as it
- 14:07Speaker 4: as it uses it up. Uh. But there's also a
- 14:10Speaker 4: chipper and like I said, the the snow blower for outdoor,
- 14:15Speaker 4: a trim or mower combination for you know, for a yard.
- 14:20Speaker 4: There's also a commercial blower hedge tremmer from from Creed
- 14:24Speaker 4: Power over in uh in Scott Depot as well.
- 14:27Speaker 3: I'm looking at these uh these uh, these larger, these
- 14:30Speaker 3: large equipment pieces that we have like the toy built chipper, uh,
- 14:33Speaker 3: the the snowblower, we have a snowblower, hedge trimmer combo.
- 14:38Speaker 3: I'm looking at these things and then a traditional mower.
- 14:40Speaker 3: If somebody was looking to uh to start a landscaping
- 14:44Speaker 3: business or some kind of a yard care business or
- 14:46Speaker 3: something along those lines, you can make three or four
- 14:49Speaker 3: of your massive purchases on something like this and with
- 14:52Speaker 3: each of them get a very steep discount to get
- 14:54Speaker 3: all new equipment to help with your yard care services.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Is that something you're looking at, doing you could save
- 14:59Speaker 3: a ton of money doing it this way.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Well, absolutely, and you know you have all the seasons covered.
- 15:03Speaker 4: You've got the chipper, the mower tra I was just
- 15:05Speaker 4: thinking exactly three different items you can get at one time,
- 15:07Speaker 4: and if you know, didn't have a lot of competitive bidding,
- 15:11Speaker 4: you could do that for about for less than eight
- 15:13Speaker 4: hundred dollars.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's pretty incredible, and I know I mentioned this
- 15:16Speaker 3: the last time I was on there. Also for small
- 15:18Speaker 3: business owners, if you don't have a snowblower, and you
- 15:21Speaker 3: have sidewalk or real estate out in front of your
- 15:23Speaker 3: business and you have a hard time keeping that clear
- 15:24Speaker 3: once the snow gets here. Just as a former small
- 15:27Speaker 3: business owner, I would highly recommend you get one of those.
- 15:29Speaker 3: It's a great investment. You can clear it for yourself,
- 15:31Speaker 3: maybe you do it for your neighboring businesses as well,
- 15:33Speaker 3: to make a nice inviting area for folks to be
- 15:35Speaker 3: able to come into your business when the weather's a
- 15:37Speaker 3: little bad. Trust me, it makes a huge difference. That
- 15:40Speaker 3: was one of the things that I invested in heavily
- 15:42Speaker 3: to make sure we did, and we turned it into
- 15:43Speaker 3: a community project. So two or three of the businesses
- 15:46Speaker 3: in downtown Jackson, Michigan, where I had one of my stores.
- 15:49Speaker 3: We all pitched in and got snowblowers and then there
- 15:51Speaker 3: are maybe twelve businesses around a two block area and
- 15:53Speaker 3: we ended up just clear enough all the sidewalks every
- 15:55Speaker 3: single winter week took a little piece of it, and
- 15:57Speaker 3: that whole retail area downtown was nice and and clear
- 16:00Speaker 3: of snow.
- 16:01Speaker 4: That not give you an advantage over other little.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Absolutely true, And before the city could come through or
- 16:05Speaker 3: anything else, it was ready for people to walk in
- 16:07Speaker 3: and not have their boats their boots filled with snow
- 16:10Speaker 3: and they could come into your business. That makes a difference.
- 16:12Speaker 3: I know that seems like a very small thing that
- 16:14Speaker 3: really can make quite a difference. So when you have
- 16:16Speaker 3: a small business like that.
- 16:18Speaker 4: That could really hurt a business because somebody that sees
- 16:21Speaker 4: snow covered sidewalk or you know, the snow is piled
- 16:23Speaker 4: up along the curve when you get out of your car, yep, car,
- 16:26Speaker 4: you can't you can't get in. So this would be
- 16:29Speaker 4: perfect for that small business and wants to make sure
- 16:31Speaker 4: that people can get in and their livelihood depends on it.
- 16:34Speaker 3: It's a literal barrier to getting in. Not to mention
- 16:37Speaker 3: folks that have reduced accessibility, access and things like that.
- 16:40Speaker 3: You want to make sure you keep those things clear.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Absolutely, with the combination of that that snow blower plus
- 16:44Speaker 4: a regular blower, you could pretty well tackle anything around
- 16:49Speaker 4: around that.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I keep it, keep it nice and clear for
- 16:52Speaker 3: folks to be able to get in. Of course, you
- 16:53Speaker 3: can use if your private residence and things as well.
- 16:56Speaker 3: I'm just there's different ideas here and things that you
- 16:58Speaker 3: can apply for that might make a lot of sense.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Like you know, like we said at the beginning of
- 17:03Speaker 4: the show, this this auction is basically a silent auction.
- 17:07Speaker 4: It's bids for bargains. You're you're placing bids to get
- 17:10Speaker 4: up to sixty five percent off of these items that
- 17:13Speaker 4: are available from local businesses. You know, you're not putting
- 17:17Speaker 4: in a bid to order something that's going to be
- 17:19Speaker 4: delivered from from Hong Kong or China or you know,
- 17:22Speaker 4: even California. This stuff is already here. We have to
- 17:26Speaker 4: see it and touch it before we take a picture.
- 17:28Speaker 4: Most of these pictures, you know, and if if quality
- 17:31Speaker 4: is not great, you know, blame me. But most of
- 17:33Speaker 4: these pictures are pictures of the actual items in the stores.
- 17:36Speaker 4: So you can see what you're getting and it's there
- 17:39Speaker 4: to go look at before you even place the bid.
- 17:42Speaker 3: I think people might have a tendency to roll their
- 17:44Speaker 3: eyes at steep discounts because we've been so inundated with
- 17:47Speaker 3: places like Timu and Sheen and stuff like that that
- 17:49Speaker 3: you expect, oh yeah, sure it's sixty percent off, but
- 17:52Speaker 3: it's like a three use product. You know you're going
- 17:54Speaker 3: to use it a couple of times and it'll fall apart.
- 17:56Speaker 3: That's not the case here, That's that's not what we're offering.
- 17:58Speaker 3: These are all quality products, really products that are that
- 18:01Speaker 3: are that are truly manufactured and not something that that's
- 18:04Speaker 3: made to fail from our local businesses. So you're getting
- 18:07Speaker 3: this steep discount for the business behind the scenes, not
- 18:10Speaker 3: because you're getting an inferior product that's being shipped from
- 18:12Speaker 3: who knows where uh to get to you in you know,
- 18:15Speaker 3: two or three weeks. You know they're shipping when those
- 18:17Speaker 3: things are always terrible too. Well.
- 18:18Speaker 4: You know, for example, the chainsaw red Max from from
- 18:22Speaker 4: Wally's up and Up in Elkview. It's real nice piece.
- 18:26Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's it's solid, it's not cheap looking,
- 18:29Speaker 4: it's not cheap feeling. It's it's a solid, heavy piece
- 18:32Speaker 4: and it's right there in the store. You can go
- 18:33Speaker 4: look at it before you place a bid. Same thing
- 18:36Speaker 4: with the diamonds necklace or the ear rings from Thomas Jewelers.
- 18:39Speaker 4: You can actually see the items, look at them, touch them,
- 18:44Speaker 4: talk to the jeweler, get get the background on them.
- 18:48Speaker 4: One is a one carrot lab grown diamond pendant. The
- 18:51Speaker 4: other is a one carrot study e ring set. You
- 18:57Speaker 4: can look at them, you know, if you ask him
- 18:59Speaker 4: to you, yeah, exactly, hold them exactly.
- 19:02Speaker 3: And that's a lot different than when you have to
- 19:05Speaker 3: give things shift or when you're going something that's at
- 19:07Speaker 3: one of the big stores. I'll tell you what. Let's
- 19:08Speaker 3: do this. Let's go ahead and take a break. We
- 19:10Speaker 3: still have plenty of time left. When we come back,

- 24:00Speaker 3: and radio expert of some sort, and then Ron Hughes
- 24:03Speaker 3: is a radio and sales expert, and we're talking this
- 24:05Speaker 3: morning about WV Bargains. You can play along with us
- 24:08Speaker 3: if you want to go to the website. It's WV
- 24:09Speaker 3: bargains dot com. This is just a service that we
- 24:12Speaker 3: do through all of our clusters of radio stations here
- 24:14Speaker 3: where we work with our advertisers to it's a deal
- 24:18Speaker 3: between us. But the bottom line is is the fruits
- 24:21Speaker 3: of that labor allows for our listeners to get great
- 24:24Speaker 3: deals up to sixty percent off in a lot of
- 24:25Speaker 3: cases that you can go in bed for right now.
- 24:28Speaker 3: So you can go to WV Bargains dot com. You
- 24:30Speaker 3: can break it down by category or by region. A
- 24:32Speaker 3: lot of these things are things you need to pick up,
- 24:35Speaker 3: so keep in mind if it's by region and it's
- 24:36Speaker 3: outside of the Charlestonnaria, it means you have to arrange
- 24:39Speaker 3: pick up. Some of it might be as easy as
- 24:40Speaker 3: contacting the person you purchase it from and maybe you
- 24:42Speaker 3: can arrange for them to mail relatively small things or
- 24:45Speaker 3: something like that, but that would be up to you
- 24:47Speaker 3: after it was after the purchase was taken care of.
- 24:49Speaker 3: But you can check it out at WV bargains dot com.
- 24:51Speaker 3: All kinds of things there to look at, from sports activities,
- 24:55Speaker 3: to health and to kitchen and to car maintenance and
- 25:00Speaker 3: yard maintenance. There's just pretty much anything that you need
- 25:03Speaker 3: being a human alive today for the most.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Part kind of it's that time of year, so there's
- 25:09Speaker 4: going to be things where you may situations where you
- 25:12Speaker 4: run into power issue. So there's a little portable generator
- 25:16Speaker 4: you could keep in the car or keep it close by.
- 25:20Speaker 4: It's got a handle on it. You just pick it
- 25:22Speaker 4: up and take it wherever you want it to go.
- 25:24Speaker 4: But it's from XPEC Power seven hundred and twenty dollars
- 25:27Speaker 4: value for starting out. Well, I see there's already a
- 25:30Speaker 4: bid on there, so you've got a Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 3: I just saw that too, because that's one of the
- 25:33Speaker 3: ones I had my eyes one there. You definitely are.
- 25:36Speaker 4: The current bid is two eighty eight, so you can
- 25:39Speaker 4: put bids on there and you can set a limit
- 25:41Speaker 4: where it'll automatically increase your bid as other bids come in,
- 25:44Speaker 4: so you can kind of keep an eye on it.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Same thing with what's next door to it. There's a
- 25:50Speaker 4: pellet stove from fireside and patio, a quadrifire castile pellet
- 25:56Speaker 4: pellet stove, free standing stove, so excellent, excellent feel of
- 26:00Speaker 4: warmth this time of year.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and be able to find those types of things
- 26:04Speaker 3: that this wasn't in the Charleston area, but I was
- 26:06Speaker 3: really pretty excited to see they have in the Cumberland area.
- 26:10Speaker 3: They have an upright freezer over there that's steeply discounted
- 26:14Speaker 3: down to two hundred and eighty dollars right now. The
- 26:16Speaker 3: only reason I I that that caught my eyes my
- 26:18Speaker 3: wife and I were literally just looking at those last
- 26:20Speaker 3: weekend because we went one for our basement and we
- 26:22Speaker 3: were looking for upright freezers and at one hundred and
- 26:24Speaker 3: sixty bucks. That's a good that's a good deal for
- 26:26Speaker 3: that right now.
- 26:27Speaker 4: That's that would be worth the trip. Yeah, that'd be
- 26:30Speaker 4: worth going over to Cumberland take up and back. Yeah, yeah,
- 26:33Speaker 4: no doubt.
- 26:33Speaker 3: But there's still plenty of things wherever you're looking for
- 26:36Speaker 3: to uh to or whatever you're looking for for for
- 26:39Speaker 3: your household or for your life. Plenty of things that
- 26:42Speaker 3: you can look at in our local area for our
- 26:44Speaker 3: local businesses and different things that you can get into,
- 26:46Speaker 3: whether it be you know, we talked about the the
- 26:49Speaker 3: dance studio in Saint Albans I just saw I was
- 26:52Speaker 3: reading some of those Ladies posts from where they went
- 26:55Speaker 3: to New York and that took plate and they were
- 26:57Speaker 3: in the Macy's parade and some of the fun that
- 27:00Speaker 3: they had over there, and that's I think that they
- 27:02Speaker 3: send representatives fairly often from that day.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Every year they have people in the in the Macy's
- 27:07Speaker 4: Thanksgiving Day parade.
- 27:08Speaker 3: So if that's something you want to be part of,
- 27:09Speaker 3: you know, if that's something that your child is passionate about.
- 27:13Speaker 3: And frankly, I'm not sure about my daughter. She is
- 27:16Speaker 3: really into choreographing dances right now, and listening to music.
- 27:19Speaker 3: The dance might be something that she's into. I don't
- 27:21Speaker 3: know yet.
- 27:22Speaker 4: My daughter did that for fourteen years, is that right?
- 27:25Speaker 3: You know, so.
- 27:27Speaker 4: It was always constant, you know, rehearsal is you know,
- 27:31Speaker 4: it's it's fun to watch them rehearse. It's fun to
- 27:33Speaker 4: watch them, you know, start with these initial you know steps,
- 27:38Speaker 4: you know, just the beginning steps of tap or you know,
- 27:43Speaker 4: jazz or anything like that that's that's dance related. And
- 27:47Speaker 4: as you watch them get older and they get better,
- 27:49Speaker 4: you realize, well, hey, my kid should be a professional.
- 27:52Speaker 4: I should be able to get a scholarship, just like
- 27:54Speaker 4: you know. It's just like football or baseball.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Right, yeah, it's exactly like that. And that's exactly how
- 27:59Speaker 3: how my my brother in law's his stepdaughter is extraordinarily
- 28:03Speaker 3: talented dancer, and she's gotten a lead in some winter
- 28:07Speaker 3: programs and different things like that, which is hugely exciting
- 28:09Speaker 3: when those things start to happen. But anyway, the journey
- 28:12Speaker 3: has to start somewhere, right and if you want to
- 28:13Speaker 3: start with classes at in Saint Albans that you can
- 28:17Speaker 3: do that we have. You can get a good discount
- 28:18Speaker 3: to start those classes over there, and you can find
- 28:21Speaker 3: those at the site WP bargains dot com.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Or if your child is a swimmer, you know, you've
- 28:25Speaker 4: got the City of South Charleston Community Center, you know,
- 28:28Speaker 4: which has another indoor pool for the area or for
- 28:32Speaker 4: outdoor pools. You know, in the summer there's the City
- 28:35Speaker 4: of Saint Albans pool there.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Again, I'm thinking about parents, when you're trying to get
- 28:40Speaker 3: ready for the summer things that you're going to have
- 28:41Speaker 3: your kids do. I remember an easy way that they
- 28:44Speaker 3: kept me out that I got kept out of trouble
- 28:46Speaker 3: when I was a kid is my parents just pointed
- 28:49Speaker 3: me out a pool when I would go there and
- 28:50Speaker 3: stay for several hours during the day, and it was
- 28:52Speaker 3: often the Saint Albans Pool up on the hill there
- 28:54Speaker 3: that I would ride my bike there with a couple
- 28:56Speaker 3: of friends and you know, we'd meet there or get
- 28:59Speaker 3: there about and we would stay until three or four
- 29:01Speaker 3: o'clock in the afternoon before we went home. And that
- 29:05Speaker 3: kept you out of trouble.
- 29:06Speaker 4: They've kept that pool maintained. It's really not all that
- 29:09Speaker 4: old because it wasn't there when I was a kid.
- 29:10Speaker 4: It wasn't available. We only had private pools. But you know,
- 29:13Speaker 4: it's been there long enough you know that it's kind
- 29:16Speaker 4: of becoming an established tradition. This is where you take
- 29:19Speaker 4: your kids in the summertime. And they also have swimming
- 29:22Speaker 4: swimming records, are swimming classes there, and they also have
- 29:25Speaker 4: a swimming team that competes against other pools. I remember
- 29:29Speaker 4: my other daughter has several of the swimming records still
- 29:32Speaker 4: to this day from the Saint Albans I think it
- 29:35Speaker 4: was the Saint Albans Sharks swim so swim team. So
- 29:40Speaker 4: it's not just a place just to drop the kids off.
- 29:43Speaker 4: They can be active in team sports there as well.
- 29:47Speaker 4: You know, you've got the Quantum party rentals inflatables pulled
- 29:51Speaker 4: up if you're planning on parties for your kids or
- 29:54Speaker 4: some kind of event. Those Quantum party rentals are amazing
- 29:58Speaker 4: and they have a large variety. Every year they put
- 30:00Speaker 4: them up over at Laidley Field and test them out.
- 30:02Speaker 4: We get to let our people come over, our listeners
- 30:05Speaker 4: come over and try them out. Whatever you were looking for,
- 30:09Speaker 4: whether it's some kind of slide or a house or
- 30:12Speaker 4: you know, a trampoline looking device. They have them there
- 30:16Speaker 4: and you can get you get a party rental. You
- 30:19Speaker 4: know five hundred dollars value for two hundred dollars certificate.
- 30:23Speaker 3: And I tell you what these things are. So there's
- 30:25Speaker 3: still so there's such there's a little bit of a
- 30:27Speaker 3: novelty still attached to them, and kids just flock to
- 30:29Speaker 3: these things. A couple of things. I'm in my fifties,
- 30:32Speaker 3: but my daughter is only seven, and I get all
- 30:34Speaker 3: these evites for birthday parties and stuff like that. So
- 30:37Speaker 3: many of these parties now have even at somebody's house,
- 30:39Speaker 3: they rent one of these things so kids can play
- 30:40Speaker 3: in them. I mean, it's just like come and get
- 30:42Speaker 3: into the bouncy coutle or whatever it might be. Number
- 30:44Speaker 3: Two downtown businesses. I see that a lot of these
- 30:46Speaker 3: businesses in some of their where they have seating during
- 30:50Speaker 3: the summertime, they use that area. And some of them
- 30:53Speaker 3: are putting up inflatables for decorating for Christmas and things
- 30:56Speaker 3: along those lines. Another use for inflatables when you get them.
- 30:59Speaker 3: And then obviously these things are massively popular you can
- 31:05Speaker 3: use at your own house for parties and things along
- 31:07Speaker 3: those So if you're looking for something like that. I
- 31:09Speaker 3: was at Rusty Webb's Thunder in the Mountains a couple
- 31:12Speaker 3: of years ago that he had over in Kanall City,
- 31:14Speaker 3: And of course that's a tennis tournament, you know, and
- 31:16Speaker 3: you expect it to be a very adult type of
- 31:18Speaker 3: centric place because it was a college it was college
- 31:22Speaker 3: level tennis, and you know, there was a crowd and
- 31:25Speaker 3: everything over there. But you know what, he and his
- 31:28Speaker 3: people had the foresight to get a bouncy castle over
- 31:30Speaker 3: there for the kids. It was packed and that was
- 31:32Speaker 3: the only thing over there, but the kids loved it.
- 31:34Speaker 3: And so while the adults were watching tennis and having
- 31:35Speaker 3: a good time with that thing, the kids were over
- 31:37Speaker 3: in the bouncy castle just having a great time.
- 31:39Speaker 4: He can be a hero to your kids because you know,
- 31:41Speaker 4: ordinarily you might be able to have one of those
- 31:43Speaker 4: items in your budget, but you know, with that five
- 31:46Speaker 4: hundred dollars two d bucks, you could get quite a
- 31:49Speaker 4: few and be a hero to your kid's hero of
- 31:51Speaker 4: the neighborhood.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you can make a little obstacle course. My kid
- 31:54Speaker 3: is obsessed with obstacle courses right now, which is great
- 31:57Speaker 3: and fun when you're playing, not so great in fun.
- 32:00Speaker 3: And she sets one up when you're not looking, and
- 32:01Speaker 3: you get up at five point thirty in the morning
- 32:03Speaker 3: and they're stumbling through your house, You're like, Oh, there's
- 32:06Speaker 3: a home Alone style array of booby traps waiting for
- 32:09Speaker 3: me this morning. That's awesome.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Sounds like a sitcom waiting to happen.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Yeah, until you fall down the stairs or something. I
- 32:14Speaker 3: always have this fear of doing that. But the bottom
- 32:18Speaker 3: line is this morning. If you're looking for whether it
