- 0:00All right, let's rock hit record here. I gotta tell you right now,
- 0:06Uh, this guy is fun to catch up with because I actually catch
- 0:09up more about not music than actually actually, dude, life is good.
- 0:14I gotta ask. Uh, you're no stranger to the whole number one journey
- 0:17and here we are knocking on the door all over again. Is it still
- 0:21exciting after all this time for you? Uh? Yeah, I mean,
- 0:25well we always do this this radio day, you know what I mean,
- 0:28anytime that gets on the schedule, it's good news. Yeah, what does
- 0:32the know? What does the first number one mean for you to to potentially
- 0:36another one now in your career? Well, the first number one for me,
- 0:40you know, it's kind of like, you know, every new artist
- 0:44wants a new new number or I can't talk first number one. Yeah,
- 0:48and then like now it's to the point where I just want, you know,
- 0:52to keep adding songs to my to my playlist and eventually get to those
- 0:56Al Dean number one, Luke Bryan number one numbers. Well, because you
- 1:00know, you just brought up two guys that sell out everywhere they go.
- 1:03Kane Brown sells out pretty much everywhere you go. At this point now in
- 1:06your career, right, you're playing the biggest rooms in the buildings that you've
- 1:10played your whole career. But those guys also have bars on Broadway. Is
- 1:14that ever an aspiration for Kane Brown? I can't. I don't know if
- 1:18I can actually talk about it, Okay, but there might be something all
- 1:22right, somewhere down the line. We would love to see Kane Brown on
- 1:23Broadway, But not like playing. I mean, you could play, but
- 1:27like I want to see your name on the wall. My guy, is
- 1:30all I'm saying. Take me through the process of because a lot of us
- 1:34don't know how. We know that a writing session becomes a song, once
- 1:40it's recorded, becomes an album, but what's the journey on, like making
- 1:44sure you're picking the right song's career wise, because you're to the point now
- 1:47where you're established, people know your name in multiple formats. One of my
- 1:51favorite quotes I've heard you say more than once is you're the DJ Calida country
- 1:53music with all the means. And I heard I heard you say with us,
- 1:57but I heard you talk to somebody else. I'm like, you need
- 2:00to print the T shirt with that. But the process of putting a song
- 2:04together, to making sure it's the right one for right now in your career.
- 2:07How do you know that that that's the right step. Is it a
- 2:08gut thing or oh yeah, I mean my whole career, I've followed my
- 2:13gut. But also I think I think it just comes with time in the
- 2:19business and then you eventually learn your sound, what your fans gravitate towards,
- 2:23and what's a good song for you. Is there a song that you were
- 2:28surprised that people react to? Are like, maybe you put it out and
- 2:31you're like, we're just gonna put it out. The label feels strong,
- 2:35my wife feels strong about I'll put it out. But it has connected and
- 2:39you're like, damn, I didn't think it would. Yeah, I've had
- 2:42a couple of them, like I didn't want what Is to go to radio,
- 2:45which is a huge song for me and then bury Me in Georgia.
- 2:49I wanted it to go at first, and then I really thought about it
- 2:53and I was like, who is going to relate to this song that's not
- 2:55from because I mean, could I get really specific like Chattanooga past the Exit
- 3:00in Georgia, I'm like, who's gonna like this song? And once it
- 3:06went it was like, I think this was like one of my highest research
- 3:08songs or whatever. So it's so good man, I love it. It
- 3:12was it was cool just to know that it was doing like that well.
- 3:14And you say, like, who's going to relate to? It's funny because
- 3:15I'm originally from Minnesota and my son, if we're driving and whatever, songs
- 3:21on and like if it talks like bury me in Georgia, I'm like,
- 3:23bury me in soda, like Minnesota, and he's like that's not the word.
- 3:25Stop changing the words. I'm like trying to be relatable. Get out
- 3:29of here. H Do you know what you want to do next? Single
- 3:31wise, I have two. I have one that's really fun put off this
- 3:38project, no no new music, okay um. And then the other one's
- 3:44just a very well written song, but it's like more it's a ballad,
- 3:47but it'll make you I mean it'll make you cry. Okay. Is that
- 3:51Does that mean it's like parent related, like being a dad. No,
- 3:53it's basically like I was just um telling them in there it's it's a song,
- 4:00but I grew up without a father figure or anything, so it's you
- 4:02know, it's like I think you might relate to. I don't know,
- 4:04but it's why do I have a heartwoot car park to my driveway while I'm
- 4:09up on not online playing some video games, like why I put on a
- 4:12pair of Jordans and think I could be like Mike basically just saying I had
- 4:17to be a man. I had I had to grow up and be a
- 4:19man, so I never got to be a boy. That's I relate to
- 4:24that more than you know, more than you know. I uh, that's
- 4:27guy, I have goosebumps. You're gonna have to send it over swicking here.
- 4:30Uh so, what's the plan? Do you still celebrate number ones the
- 4:33way you used to? Is it still like art? Is it like,
- 4:35hey, nope, we wake up the next day. I've noticed I get
- 4:39to the point now where it's just like, depending on the writers that are
- 4:42on the song, you know, I I celebrate with them. Um.
- 4:45A lot of the people I've been working with recently are new writers. I
- 4:48just got I think two people their first number ones, and then one Mississippi.
- 4:53I got a guy's first number one. So that's what I'm focused on.
- 4:57And you bring that up. We talked one mississipp and it was literally
- 5:00a guy. I remember the story when we caught up. You had said
- 5:03that the dude wasn't from here, but he pulled up in a van with
- 5:06a like everybody he's ever met in his whole life, dropping him off or
- 5:10something like that in Nashville. Are you still working closely with him because you
- 5:13signed him to your publishing company, right, Yeah, he's still on our
- 5:16pube company and he's still writing. I haven't got any rights with him,
- 5:21but I mean he's still in Nashville. When it comes to working with somebody
- 5:27like that who's never done it before, and you mentioned got a couple of
- 5:30writers or first number ones, how important is that to you to bring people
- 5:33along? Because you're doing great by yourself, and I mean it's nice to
- 5:36work with people, but like you're to the point where you probably don't have
- 5:40to as much as you did in the beginning. What does it mean to
- 5:42you to bring people along on the ride? It means the world to me
- 5:46because I you know, I don't hopefully never forget that, so I get
- 5:49to you know, just be a part of their life and helped them out
- 5:55along the way. You know, hopefully it leads to more number ones and
- 5:57gets their names out and things like that. Uh, I would be disrespectful
- 6:02to say Kane Brown doesn't get enough downtime. But do you feel you do
- 6:06get enough downtime? I mean, because all you do is work. It
- 6:10feels like, yeah, well my depression. Man, if I get too
- 6:13much downtime, it's bad. So I feel like I get there just a
- 6:17perfect amount and that and that downtime isn't necessarily like I mean, because not
- 6:23that being a dad is a job. It's like a privilege, right,
- 6:26But at the same time, you still need Kane no, man, I
- 6:29mean our lives great about that. Like if I say, babe and game
- 6:31a little bit. She don't care if I want to go golf or whatever.
- 6:34She's she's great at it. Uh you know, just she's a great
- 6:39wife. Is she ever? Like let me let me hand me the controller?
- 6:43Somebody how this works? I wish? Nah. She used to play
- 6:46Pope g with me. Oh yeah, she played. We played one day
- 6:48and she got so into it. Uh. So she was downstairs and we
- 6:53were talking and she was having a ball and then I said, Babe,
- 6:56are you hungry? She said yeah. I said, what do you think
- 6:58it is right now? And she didn't realize it. We've been playing for
- 7:01six hours and so I was like, it's it's dinner Bay. So we
- 7:05ordered pizza and when we kept playing and I was like one of the funniest
- 7:09times I've ever had with her. And then I woke up the next morning
- 7:12and I felt like she was cheating on me because she was playing with my
- 7:15friend. And I was like, what is going on or not? And
- 7:18then I switched out. So when I switched to call the duty, she
- 7:21just gave up. She's like, now you left her, she cheated and
- 7:26he left moved on to a different game. What's the rest of the year
- 7:29look like for Kane Brown? Because now you confirmed there is some new music
- 7:32in the works. Whatever we're getting next is something that isn't available now,
- 7:36So what's the plan on? I don't need a date or anything, but
- 7:39like, what's the plan on when we're gonna hear something like that? Um?
- 7:43Are you thinking album? Are you thinking EP? Right now? We're
- 7:46just focused on single, but we have a lot of music that we have
- 7:48recorded. I think we got seven songs that we've that we've got UM and
- 7:54then I just you know, I'll be down in Florida coming up, so
- 7:57we have writers coming down there, so we had to get in the studio
- 8:01because we didn't we didn't think the song was gonna move this fast, so
- 8:05we had to do it went quick. Yeah, so we just we jumped
- 8:07in. We already record Monday for the song that I think is gonna be
- 8:11my single. Um, but it's completely done. I just gotta put my
- 8:15vocals on it and the lakes and master and it's ready to go. We're
- 8:18looking forward to September. You're heading to Vegas for the Guy Heart Radio Music
- 8:20Festival. This has become a different type of festival because literally from the second
- 8:28to lightscolo until the pyro hits at the end of the night, I mean,
- 8:31it's superstar after superstar, and it's every genre, right, I mean,
- 8:35Kelly Clarkson's going to be there, a little Wayne's gonna be there,
- 8:39a Kane Brown Low Wayne collab sounds like Ane song right right? What does
- 8:46it mean for you to look at your name and see literally the only people
- 8:50that are on the bill right now that are representing country music. Cheryl Crow
- 8:52has got some country cuts out, obviously, Kelly Clarkson started more country than
- 8:56pop, Tim mcgrawan, Kane Brown, Like that's what did you ever think
- 9:01that. Obviously, you hope that your name is in lights in every city
- 9:05in the world when you get into this. But did you ever think that
- 9:07you'd be sharing the stage, sharing the show, sharing the building with Tim
- 9:11McGraw. No, I mean we did. We did a pre Super Bowl
- 9:16party way back when. But that's that's about it. So are we on
- 9:20the same night? Yeah, sick, that's gonna be awesome. Might I
- 9:24might see if I can sing? I like it. I love it was
- 9:26him. Well, listen, this is where collapse can be born. I'm
- 9:28just saying, we know people, you know, people send some texts,
- 9:31send some messages, make it happen. What does a show like that mean
- 9:35for you as a fan? Though? To know that all these genres over
- 9:39two nights, take over this one stage. I think it's awesome because I
- 9:41already, you know, I already do this, Like I'm all over,
- 9:46you know, genre, So I just love I feel like it's like,
- 9:50I mean, there's gonna be some out there that, you know, I
- 9:52don't like country music. I get in a fight with those people, but
- 9:56uh yeah, it's gonna be fun and hopefully we can win them over and
- 10:01turn them into country music. Plus is Vegas blackjack at the end of the
- 10:03night. Am I right? That's dangerous too. And there's another thing I
- 10:05can't. I got you. I can set you up gambling on your phone
- 10:09right now. Let's all right, Well, we gotta wrap things up.
- 10:11Kane Brown, thanks for hanging brother. Yea, all right, we'll go shoot
