- 0:01Welcome in to another exciting episode of the scene.
- 0:03I'm your host Bubba Starts, and with me today is Tim Hazzi.
- 0:06Tim is the founder of the Buckles and Spurs Music Festival in the great state of Texas.
- 0:11Tim, welcome to the bus.
- 0:13Thank you, man.
- 0:14I appreciate it.
- 0:15This is awesome, man.
- 0:16I appreciate that you made this happen.
- 0:17We're both visitors here to Nashville this weekend, and it just happened to time up
- 0:22perfectly.
- 0:23It it it worked it worked out well instead of having doing this over the Internet or Zoom
- 0:29call.
- 0:30Mean Which which is fine.
- 0:31Right?
- 0:31But when you can jump on jump on the tour bus formerly owned by George Jones and do it.
- 0:36Right?
- 0:37Man.
- 0:37All the better.
- 0:38It's amazing.
- 0:38Just to be on the bus that the possum was on and living it just it's it's it's great.
- 0:43Yeah, man.
- 0:44And he absolutely loved this thing.
- 0:45You can tell how much it meant to him.
- 0:49We rode all the way down here from Wisconsin in this thing last night, man.
- 0:53Incredible incredible run that we've been on.
- 0:56One hell of a ride, I'm calling it.
- 0:58Hey.
- 0:58It's it it works.
- 1:00That's what traveling's about.
- 1:01We had the same thing going through Memphis.
- 1:03So Awesome.
- 1:04So tell us about the music festival.
- 1:06Oh, man.
- 1:07Well, hoping it's gonna be the largest music festival in the state of Texas once we get done
- 1:12with it in June.
- 1:13It's a Father's Day weekend.
- 1:1660 bands over four days.
- 1:18We got four themed days, which makes it nice because I don't know any other festival that
- 1:24does that.
- 1:25So what we're doing is on our Thursday, we're doing the new bands and up and comers, and
- 1:30we're reaching out to a few few of them.
- 1:34I really don't wanna say the names because we don't have the contracts yet, but let's just
- 1:38say there there are some heavy hitters.
- 1:42Friday is our country legends day, and we've been in contacts with Georgette Jones.
- 1:49We've got the Jean Watson.
- 1:54I'm sorry.
- 1:55We reached out to Crystal Gale as one of our headliners, so we're hoping we can get in get
- 2:00those in.
- 2:01Saturday is gonna be our our today country, and we're working with Folds of Honor and Wounded
- 2:08Warrior Project to raise raise money for wounded veterans for basically, our veterans
- 2:14because they're they're under undervalued.
- 2:16Yeah.
- 2:16Well, we we know that here.
- 2:18Obviously, we work with our nonprofit in South Dakota, Operation Combating Veteran Suicide.
- 2:23So if there's room for more and and us to jump in there, I I'm sure we would love to do that.
- 2:27We're gonna Special shout out to them as well.
- 2:29We gotta take care of them because they don't they they've taken care of our country and
- 2:32taken care of us.
- 2:33We can't do what we're doing here.
- 2:35We can't be here at the Opry with the Josie Awards along with the the great performers and
- 2:41all that stuff and artists without them.
- 2:43They give them our give us our freedom to be able to do this.
- 2:46Yeah.
- 2:47So we're doing that.
- 2:48So we're hoping they're gonna bring in a couple couple ringers for us.
- 2:53But it's Saturday is our today's country, and then Sunday is our our nineties country.
- 2:58Awesome.
- 2:59So we've got some we've got some pretty good good bands on there already.
- 3:03We got, I mean, legends.
- 3:05Who doesn't know Sons of the Pioneer?
- 3:07Right.
- 3:08I mean, we got them.
- 3:09A good old Roy Rogers family was friends with Roy Rogers.
- 3:12So it's like to be honored to have them to to be on stage with us too.
- 3:16So
- 3:16So how did the festival come about?
- 3:18I mean, this does doesn't happen overnight.
- 3:20So what was kind of the inspiration first, and then we'll kind of pick it up from there?
- 3:25Well, there hasn't been a festival in in the Houston, Texas area for years.
- 3:33The last festival that was tried was Astral World with Travis Scott, and that turned out to
- 3:43be a deadly affair.
- 3:44Yeah.
- 3:45So no one wanted to attempt to do another festival within the within the Houston City
- 3:52area.
- 3:54But there's a need for it.
- 3:55So the great great people or or good people find what the needs are and go for it.
- 4:01Right.
- 4:01So I decided, why not?
- 4:05Everything's bigger in Texas.
- 4:06People always tell me start small, then go go big.
- 4:11With me, it's always been go big or go home.
- 4:15So we've we figured out the structure.
- 4:20We knew what genre we were gonna go for, and then we just figured what can we do to help the
- 4:26community.
- 4:27And it's not just about making the money.
- 4:31It's about making the connections, meeting the people, and doing good.
- 4:36And when we decided to work with with veterans, country music is huge supporters of the
- 4:45veterans, of this country, and we're like, let's do it.
- 4:50Yeah.
- 4:50We reached out to Folds of Honor, reached out to Wounded Warrior Project and a few others.
- 4:56Romans Warrior Project also, they have a traveling, memorial wall along with other
- 5:04memorials on it, that go across the country.
- 5:07So we reach out to them.
- 5:08They said, hey.
- 5:09We're on board.
- 5:10Let's do this.
- 5:11Now it's just the the growth.
- 5:14Yeah.
- 5:15And I'm gonna tell you what, I've got me and a team of five others that are doing this
- 5:20festival.
- 5:22I don't wish it on anyone else, man.
- 5:25It it's it's you got the ups and you got the downs, but so far, everyone's been great and
- 5:32and accepting, and the reception of it within the Houston area is is unreal.
- 5:39So, I mean, it it's it's fun.
- 5:40I enjoy it.
- 5:41We're happy to hear that.
- 5:42Well, we hope that we can turn you guys on to a lot of new country from the Midwest.
- 5:46We're members of the Midwest Country Music Organization, not just with our podcast, but
- 5:49with my band starts and ends as well.
- 5:51So maybe we can make some things happen, and we can come down there and celebrate Father's Day
- 5:55weekend and country music and our veterans all in one shot there at Buckles and Spurs Music
- 6:01Festival.
- 6:02Where can people find out more information about the fest and the lineup and all that good
- 6:07stuff?

- 6:12We're on social media.
- 6:14We're on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook.
- 6:17It's all under Buckles and Spurs Country Music Festival.
- 6:21And we got we you can also go on ticketferry..com and search it for tickets.
- 6:26Very reasonable price, man.
- 6:27Four days for $300.
- 6:29Right.
- 6:29I mean, you cannot touch one of our headliners for that nowadays.
- 6:36Ticket prices are so ridiculous.
- 6:38Is gonna there be camping for it as well?
- 6:40You guys camping on-site?
- 6:41Okay.
- 6:42We have camping on-site.
- 6:43We're on a 195 acre horse ranch.
- 6:45Awesome.
- 6:46The festival grounds that we're actually working on is just about 50 acres.
- 6:52We're using about another 50 for camping.
- 6:55So we'll be having about 500 camp spots, VIP camp spots on-site.
- 7:00Got room for the bus?
- 7:01Bring it on the bus.
- 7:03I I've got I've about 25 to 30 acres that's just for performers and buses.
- 7:09Hey.
- 7:09We'll get the possums bus in there.
- 7:11Yeah.
- 7:11We'll find some space for it.
- 7:13Well, Tim, I appreciate you jumping on with us today and tell us about the festival.
