- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Father, I ask that you speak through me as I give this message.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: So, um remembering Lot's wife.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Let's dive into that.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Um, we're gonna start in Chapter Luke.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Um and so it's Chapter Luke, ver um, oh my gosh, I can't talk already.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Luke 17 verses 32 and 33 says this remember what happened to Lot's wife.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: If you cling to your life, you will lose it, and if you let your life go, you will save it.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So to recap in a summary to understand um Jesus' reference here about Lot's wife.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: We don't know her name, but we know that the Lord um was going to destroy the city um that Lot and his wife were in, and because you know he was just so tired of their sinful and selfish ways of living, the Lord spared Lot and his wife's life and he and and the family, and he had told them to leave and to never look back before he would destroy the city.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And so they had to get up and leave like right then and there in that instant, and he was blessing them, you know, due to their faith by sparing their life and by letting them go, um, you know, get out while they could, kind of thing.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And as they left, Lot's wife looked back just as Jesus instructed them not to do.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And so because she did, she looked back and she turned to salt.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Um, if you want to read up more on this story, I'm not gonna sit here and talk about it because I have a uh a message to go based off of it.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Um, truthfully, this this story is is a longer one, so if you want to go ahead and read it, it is in Genesis chapter 19.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Um really the main points here is 16, 17, and 26, but it's like from verses like 14 all the way down to 26 if you want to read the whole thing.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: But so with that, I ask you this are you living for your own desires and your own pleasures in your everyday life?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Are you serving the Lord and spreading the word and spreading Jesus every single day all day?
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Why do we live like our days aren't numbered?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: You know, like why do we act like our time on earth isn't timed?
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Like we don't know when our last breath is gonna be, and so why do we spend it with the desire and the view of, you know, eating and drinking and carrying on in the worldly way of thinking and you know, going out and hanging out with our friends and yada yada, carrying on as we want to live.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: You know, we all know that we're living in the end times, and so what are we doing during the course of our day?
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: And to go back up and to back up what I'm saying in Luke 17, 33, Jesus says, and he warns us, those who cling to their life lose it, and those who let it go will save it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Meaning those who are trying to save their life by, you know, quote unquote living full, doing things like partying, dating, hanging out with friends, you know, hanging out with more friends, you know, going having days out and about, you know, spending Monday through Sunday going out with friends and being on the beach, and I don't know, having a day on the boat, and then partying, and then more partying, and then having the best outfit to wear in the rooftop bar, and having the best career job, right?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: And the boyfriend who gets us coffee from Starbucks down the street, right?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Like all of that by by trying to save our life by trying to have this like picture perfect worldly you know life, and and we fill our life up with all of these things.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So by focusing on our life here on earth as it's only temporary, by focusing on you know, our life right now, by doing that, we're gonna lose it when we die.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: However, the Lord says if we lay down our life to follow Jesus, if we spread the word and we're reaching the broken and we're reaching the hurting and the lost and the confused to Jesus, and we're you know, out being evangel and we're out being evangelists and we're out bringing people to Jesus, and you know, we're out telling the gospel and we're out planting seeds and we're out being the light.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: If we surrender our lives and we submit to God and we say, you know what, Lord, let your will be done over my life, not mine.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Then will we save our lives?
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: And so why do we why do we linger?
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Let's move into that concept with the story.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Why do we linger?
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Why did you know when he told Lot and his wife to leave, they she lingered.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Where why was that lingering?
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: You know, and think about us and why do we linger?
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: We we say things to ourselves like, you know, should I spread God here?
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: You know, should I do it here?
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Should I do it now?
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Questioning when is the right and the wrong time to do so.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Like there is one.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: No, at the end of the day, it's about being bold in our faith and doing it when it's uncomfortable and reaching those people.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, this actually is real life or death.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Think about somebody that you dearly love so much who doesn't know the Lord and who isn't in faith.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Now think about watching them die knowing you never spoke the gospel to them.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Like you never invited them to church.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: You never planted that seed and prayed over them.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: I know that got dark real quick, but like this is the truth.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: You know, this is this is real life or death.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And thinking during the course of your days, what are you doing?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Have you are you spending every single weekend hanging out with your friends, you know, getting together, going to the fairs in the summer?
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: It's summertime right now, you know, going to the fairs and going to the orchards and going to the farm and going to the beach and going to the pool and you know, having playdates with your kids, and you know, watching the sunrise up at the beach and going out on a waterfront bar, right?
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Like all those things.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: You're doing all of that, but you're you're you're we're trying to save ourselves, but we're going to lose it.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: What about that nana that doesn't believe in the Lord?
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: That you love so much?
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: What about your aunt that means the world to you?
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: But it's broken and doesn't believe in the Lord.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: What about if say something happened to them and they died?
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: But you were so busy carrying on, you were so busy worrying about yourself in your life right now.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: You missed the mark on reaching out to them.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: And Jesus warns us from the story not to linger.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: He warns us not to just linger around in that as you know, as Lot's wife, she did linger and she did look back.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: And so he says and he warns us don't be like Lot's wife, don't turn back, don't look back, because we will die by looking back.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And so let's dive into that aspect of the story, diving into um let's look at really what Lot's wife could have been feeling.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Like, let's put our feet in her shoes, right?
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: In the story, he ordered them to leave the town.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Right then and there.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: And he said, Leave, don't look back.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: So the Lord was ordering them to leave immediately, to continue to follow him and to be saved from that, you know, what he was about to do to the city.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: But she was leaving her friends, her family, her community, her job, her clothes, her shoes, her bags, her favorite sweater, her I don't know, falls coming up, her favorite pumpkin decoration.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: She was leaving behind money.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: She was leaving behind everything and was told to never look back.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Now, fast forward into today's age and tie that into how these things relate to us.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: How there are things in our life that without us knowing it is destroying us.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Destroying our faith.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Tempting us to look back at the old life that we had before Jesus came into our lives, making us miss certain things, making us miss the partying or the smoking or the drinking or the carrying on doing a certain thing with your friend that you shouldn't have been doing, right?
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Whatever it is that your sinful self did before Jesus had come and saved you, whatever the old flesh, whatever the old you was doing, there is something or someone that is making you be like Lot's wife right now, looking back.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: So who is that person or what is that thing right now that is causing you to look back like Lot's wife?
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Now I'm gonna tell my own story here because I I don't know, I always seem to give myself as an example, my own testimony.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, so recently I heard this very so similar message from my pastor spoke this um similar message about Lot's wife um at a women's night at church.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: And I, long story short, like wasn't prepared for this like multitude of a sermon.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: I was like, okay, yeah, I'm just gonna go, I'm gonna have fun, it's a girl's night.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, ooh, here, honey, here's the baby, bye.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Right, and I kind of was like rushing there.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: I'm texting my church friends, like, hey, I'm on my way, you know, I'm gonna be there five minutes late, how to drop the baby off, like I'm rushing, I'm I'll be there, you know, you know, save me a seat kind of deal.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And so, like, I was so not prepared for this message, and so you know, I as I'm sitting there listening to this sermon, and the Lord was weighing on my heart super, super heavy, a person in my life that I was using essentially, not using, I wasn't using her, but there was somebody in my life that was allowing me to tempt me and allowing me to look back at the pre-Jesus Amber and think about things that I used to do and made me look back and miss it and would tempt me with a good time, would tempt me.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm gonna be real honest with you.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: I was a major partier, like Snooky from Jersey Shore, okay?
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Like I'm ashamed of it now, but like, you know, a professional sloppy snooky, okay?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: And not that this friend is like a partier by any means, okay?
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: It was my best friend.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: The Lord had like let's cut to the chase.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: The Lord laid it on my heart that night to cut off my best friend.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Right then and there.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: He said, I encourage you to turn to right now, leave, right now.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: He said, Leave her right now.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Cut her off right now and don't look back.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: And so if I'm being honest with myself, she was so such an important part of my life.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Like she was my best friend.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Now she wasn't a bad best friend by any means.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: She was a great best friend, and and especially in the worldly view, she was an amazing best friend, you know.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and no, she wasn't like a crazy party or anything by any means, right?
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Um, she was uh a normal civilized adult.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: However, because she wasn't in faith, our beliefs are different, and so you know, as were moms, I was tempted to cut loose after a long, stressful day of being moms.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: And I was tempted to, you know, and I and I'll say that I've caved in, you know, times where I've had that glass of wine, or you know, I wanted that cigarette, or I wanted to think the way I used to think.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: I wanted to act the way I used to act.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: It made me miss that partying of me.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: It made me miss certain things that I would say or certain things that I would do that the Lord has delivered me from.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: The Lord has changed me from that.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: And yet here I am using this person as a door to look back.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: And so that was hurting my faith way more than I knew.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: And so recently at this at this church night, the Lord was laying it on my heart super heavy, like real heavy.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Cut her off and don't look back.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: So at church, had a time of repentance after the sermon, and I went up to the altar and I weeped and cried like a little little girl who their dad said you can't get candy at the candy store.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I'm so sorry.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: I I repent and I apologize.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: And I knew immediately my decision.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: I knew immediately what I had to do.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: There was no question about it.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Because yes, I love her to death.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: That's my best friend, but it was at that point in my moment and time, it was her or my relationship with God.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: It was the worldly me who's gonna die someday, or eternal spirit, you know, or my eternal self.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: And it and I had to think eternally, and I had to think with the Lord.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: And so immediately it was no questions asked.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Absolutely, yes, I will cut her off.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: So after church, I got to the car and I was like, I've no idea what to say.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: The Lord's laying it on my heart to do it right now.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: He wants me to be obedient, so I did.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm not gonna like give too many details because it's a long story and like I have a message to give.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: But long story short, I obeyed and I prayed first because I had no idea what to say.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know what to say to that.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Like we had we literally had just hung out earlier that day.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So it would, it was so abrupt and so painful, but I knew that the Lord was going to give me more blessings, more fruit.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: He had a promised land for me that I couldn't access unless I cut off what I was looking back at.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: And so I prayed over it and he helped me find the words, and I texted her, and I was like, I'm so sorry that I have to text you like this and like essentially break up with you through text.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: I'm so sorry this is so abrupt.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm so sorry that I'm being like that guy right now.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: I was like, I love you so much, but just no, we, you know, I had I had to cut things off.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: And so then afterwards, I'm driving out of the church parking lot, and I was gonna call my sister up.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: My sister um has had to cut people off for the Lord before that was like, you know, holding back her faith in.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: So I was like, I'm gonna call her up.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: See, you know, like get some advice from her.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: And the Lord stopped me right in my traction.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Was like, no, you're going to cut her off and you're going to finish what you started.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: You're going to not look back.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: And so I was like, dang, I have to block her.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: I have to block my best friend.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: And so that was like probably I don't know how to explain those feelings I was going through.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: I was going through so many like aggressive feelings in that moment.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: And but I knew that I was going to obey the Lord, you know.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: I, if there's anybody that you don't want to make mad, right?
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Like, I will obey the Lord if all else, right?
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: Your husband tells you to put the dishes away, or I don't know, how's your husband tells you it's your turn to put the kid to bed?
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: And you know, you say yes, but maybe I don't know.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't know where I'm going with this.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: But I was like, long story short, I was 100% willing to obey, I was 100% willing to submit to him.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: However, I just didn't know, I didn't really know how.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: And so I was like, okay, Lord, you said finish this.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna cut her off.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: And so I had to block her because I knew that not blocking her was for me personally allowing that door to remain open so that she could respond, so that we could kind of like continue to conversate, and essentially that was me looking back, and so I knew that I had to make it in a way where I couldn't look back, and so I'm truthfully terrified, you know, to be delivered from my past self, only to die and return to dust, because I failed to let the things that was to let things go that was holding me back of my faith.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: And I was I'm terrified and scared of being guilty of of hearing the warning that Jesus just gave on all of us not to look back, but yet I did.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: And so I continue to repent, and and I'm not gonna lie, like there's definitely times that I I still think about her because she was like my best friend for many years, and so of course there are times that like she pops up in my mind, and I'm immediately like, you know what?
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: No, I need to repent right away, and I need to pray be about that because the Lord has so much more for me than I could ever imagine.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: He has a promised land, he is blessing upon bless blessing upon miracle upon miracle upon fruit upon fruit upon growth in my faith.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: And I, how dare I look back?
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Like, let's not look back, and so that was something monumental for me.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: So think about your life right now and what it's like now that you have Jesus.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: You know, how dare we desire or wish to have a life that we used to have, that he saved us from ourselves?
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: You know, the devil is a liar and a killer, and he wants us to believe that those things, that our old self things are worthy in our lives and that they hold power in our lives, that they're better than what God has to offer to us.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: That they're they're, you know, uh shiny and juicy and admiring and tempting, and he does that with our old self because he wants us to look back.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: He wants us to miss the sel the things that the Lord delivered us from.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: But he's only lying and he's only killing our faith.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Because that's a lie.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: The Lord has so much better in store for us.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: And the devil makes you think, is it worth it?
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: What would my life look like if I did this again or texted this person again?
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Or oh, how I miss blank, you know, oh how I miss smoking, or oh how I miss drinking, and I would be nice to have a drink, or oh how I miss this person, yearning for the life that you used to live.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: But yet, how beautiful is God's mercy that he saved us.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: And not only did he save us, but he offers us a way out.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: He pulls us out after all of our sin.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: And he says to us, run away from that life.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: He says, I will save you, but you can never look back.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: And so, wrapping up my message here, the Lord calls us to stand out, not to blend in, and he calls us to be like his children.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: He calls us not to be like other people, he calls us to separate ourselves, to stand out, to tell other people about Jesus, to think about eternal life, to think about the Lord.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And so I got two scriptures here that, you know, I'm not just saying this, but to back myself up here.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: In 2 Corinthians chapter 6, verse 17, he says, Therefore, come out from them, be separate, says the Lord.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Again, in Hebrews 12, 2, he says, Fix my eyes on Jesus and no wandering eyes.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: So think today about what or who in your life that is causing you to look back.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Fear the Lord, causing you to think that there's an open door somewhere to your old sinful flesh, and causing you to slowly die in your faith and to keep you stuck and to keep you stagnant from the fruit and the blessings and the miracles and the promised land that the Lord promised, because you are looking back at whatever that is that God has delivered you from.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: I encourage you today to break free from looking back and to remember that there is nothing that we used to do in our flesh that is better than what the Lord has for us.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: And so, with that being said, I'm gonna wrap up in prayer.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, here we go.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Dear Father, thank you so much for this message.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for laying this message on my heart and for help speaking to me through me today to give this message.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: I lift up every single listener right here, right now, and I just pray that you've laid this on their heart, Father.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: I pray that they walk away change, that they don't just hear the word.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: But Father, I pray that they are called on their heart to obey your word, that they are called on your heart to change, that they are called on their hearts to make that change, to let go of that thing that is holding them back.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: I pray that they never stop thinking about Latwi, that they don't ever want to look back from their old life, that they know that they are called to something much higher, something much more beautiful in your promised land and your fruit has to offer.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: And so I pray over every single one of them and I pray over protection over them as I intercede, as the devil tries to whisper to us.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: I rebuke all of the devil um whispering thoughts and the demonic attack that he tries to lay on us as he tries to kill our faith and destroy our life, and he tries to lie to us.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: Father, I rebuke that in every single listener's life right now, this very second, and I lift them up to you and I just pray a protection over them.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: And as you continue to guide us along the way, I pray that you continue to uplift them and encourage them to be strong in their faith.
