Latest / OneLegUpAlex Media / Terminello's Take on CFB OT Rules and NFL Black Monday As Alex Garrett Podcast Network Turns 10
Transcript
- 0:00This week is the ten year anniversary of the Alex Garrett Podcast Network. So
- 0:06many iterations back in twenty fourteen, but I want to say this little note
- 0:11that I wrote on Facebook when Jerry Crowley, the GM of AM nine SEM
- 0:16of the Answer, revamped nine to seventy, bringing in Joe Piscopo, bringing
- 0:21in Dottie Herman, and really bringing in all these different hosts, and I
- 0:28was put on the board for a lot of them. It also increased my
- 0:32podcast arc and that's where the start of this podcast because all the people I
- 0:38work with on the air talking about politics, talking about the tax paying dollars,
- 0:43and I thought, man, my generation needs to know about this.
- 0:46We are warming up in the boat pen. And well, I started this
- 0:51podcast ten years ago, and just like nine to seventy, and just like
- 0:54the network, there's been growth all around. And I don't think we can
- 0:59go without saying that has been hand in hand. So for those who have
- 1:02been there from the beginning, those who joined along the journey, those guests
- 1:06I've had over the years, happy ten years. And right now I've got
- 1:11a very special surprise before we do. Terminello's take. Lou Terminello, your
- 1:15take is on one leg up. You know why because the main vein and
- 1:19this whole podcast is celebrating ten years. And guess what I'm with me right
- 1:23now that saw the inception of this alongside you take a guess who could it
- 1:27be? I wonder who it could it be? It's Matt Zambolin. All
- 1:33right, nice, I gotta give you an extra Piscutti today, lou And
- 1:38as an extra, I got Mark, who was there from the beginning as
- 1:40well. I'm here from the beginning. Okay, No, I think Mark
- 1:44was there when I put out the first microphone in the studio. We're we're
- 1:48all timers now, are we gonna get? You know, our name lifted
- 1:52up in the rafters somewhere of my podcast studio? Yes? But uh,
- 1:57ten years of this network, ten years of the over the station. There
- 2:00seems to be a parallel, doesn't there? Well? I would say so
- 2:05absolutely. Well. I think the parallel is is we love radio too much
- 2:12to leave. Yes, And even though I haven't been there, I still
- 2:19I still love radio. Even though every time I see every time I see
- 2:23a cockroach go by the floor, Loua, I think it's looking for a
- 2:28Piscatti crumb. It makes me think of you and all, and we have
- 2:32to give you credit for all the sports we've carried here. Well, that
- 2:38was a big That was a big thing that we did, which really brought
- 2:42the station a lot of uh, you know, credibility and a lot of
- 2:46notice along with with Joe Piscopo with the morning show and and everybody forgets we
- 2:52can't forget those what was that those two two and a half years of John
- 2:54gambling from eleven to one, all all that stuff. A seventy on the
- 3:01map, that's for sure. Well, a lot of greats have greased these
- 3:06halls, and especially with Alex and my Stell still here, I like to
- 3:09consider us among the greats, and and of course Mark de Boor. But
- 3:15it's been fun. Uh, the past ten has been great, and I
- 3:17look forward to the next ten. And you're gonna keep my top row.
- 3:22Year of the ny CFC was one of my favorites. A. Yeah,
- 3:27well, I remember I was recovering from the brain hemorrhage at that time.
- 3:31We started with in ye CFC. That's probably right, CFC. It was
- 3:43two hours, two hours and fifteen minutes and it was over. The game
- 3:46was over, you know it. That's the one good thing about soccer,
- 3:51it's really compartmentalized in a time block to keep that clock going. That's it.
- 3:57Well, I want to bring you three together, and Ryan's here too,
- 4:00been part of the history of the network as well, and for allowing
- 4:02me to grow my own stuff on the side. This has been a really
- 4:05amazing ten years and both of you are instrumental in this. So thank you,
- 4:09thank you, thank you, thank you. Alexander the Great. All
- 4:14Right, now it's on with Tarbanella's take, because we've got a lot to
- 4:16talk about today, don't we. Yeah, we have, we have some
- 4:19things to talk about because on Monday night. Yeah, let's talk about that.
- 4:28Because I'm still a low perturbed that the first score in overtime was not
- 4:32the final score in overtime for Michigan, and then you and I kind of
- 4:35say I on that, don't we, Well, the fact that Michigan won
- 4:41the game really had nothing to do because of the overtime period. I just
- 4:46don't like the college overtime. I mean, since they instituted in nineteen ninety
- 4:50six, I mean a start the team on the twenty five yard line and
- 4:59uh, already in field goal range. I don't understand that I don't know
- 5:01why they don't use the NFL type rules. And over the years they you
- 5:10know, you could go six or seven overtimes and you were getting scores of
- 5:15seventy three to sixty seven. And this year they did they changed that where
- 5:23you know, the first possession it would be a normal like we saw last
- 5:27week in the semi finals between Michigan and Alabama. Michigan scored, they kicked
- 5:31a single extra point. You can go for two if you want, but
- 5:34they came, they kicked a single extra point and then they stopped. They
- 5:40stopped Alabama. But if Alabama had scored, the second possession would have been,
- 5:46say Michigan scored, they would have had to go for a two point
- 5:49conversion by rule. And say if Alabama had scored and they had gone for
- 5:55two point conversion and the game was still tied, whether the teams may the
- 6:00two point conversions or both missed the two point conversions, then it really gets
- 6:03goofy. Then from the third possession to the end, whenever it's over,
- 6:10they put lace the ball at the three and they just run two point conversion
- 6:15plays one after the other. And Alex, it's a joke. Plus the
- 6:19fact that the team statistics and the individual statistics count, and that really especially
- 6:30when they played, they didn't play with the two point conversion. I was
- 6:32games one six or seven overtime passes were throwing for six hundred yards, throwing
- 6:41eight touchdown passes. It was a joke. Well, I'll tell you what
- 6:46you talk about, how and I'm watching the replay now and it felt like
- 6:49Korum did exactly what Joe Burrow did on the end around there against Alabama,
- 6:54which was fun to watch. By the way, I wouldn't have him mind
- 6:56having him as a giant next chair running back. I'm just saying, well,
- 7:00if you want to talk about the game on Monday night, which I
- 7:03think ironically it's a the preview of what will be a Big Ten Conference matchup
- 7:12for years to come. They're actually playing on October fifth, twenty twenty four,
- 7:16at Washington in the first year of this expanded Big Ten. But you
- 7:21mentioned Blake Korm. I mean, I think Michigan's path to victory is they
- 7:28have to win the time of possession. They have to control the clock,
- 7:32and Blake Korm is going to be a big part of that. He's a
- 7:36gutsy runner. He plays with a lot of heart, and I think that
- 7:43along with JJ McCarthy, who I don't love. I don't love him as
- 7:46a quarterback, but McCarthy plays with a lot of guts, plays with a
- 7:50lot of part like like Blake Korham. So they in my opinion, Washington's
- 7:58offense is so good. Michael Pennock Junior, who I thought should have won
- 8:03the Heisman Trophy. Uh, they got to keep him off the field with
- 8:07those receivers, and they could run the ball on on Washington. Michigan can
- 8:13this. They're vulnerable to the run, and Uh, that's the way I
- 8:20think that the game's gotta go if Michigan wants to win. If Washington,
- 8:24I mean, Washington could score in five ways. I mean Pennick Junior throws
- 8:30a beautiful ball, his quick release, he knows how to read the defense.
- 8:35His wide receivers, you know, Romadoozy, who I think maybe some
- 8:41NFL scouts, you know, we talked about Malvern Harrison Junior being the first
- 8:46wide receiver drafted. A Doomsey might be might be the first wide receiver drafted.
- 8:50I mean, he's that good. And jaylenn Polk, they have a
- 8:56great offensive line. They've only allow eleven sacks, which obviously plays right into
- 9:03Pennick's great ability. So it's going to be interesting. Michigan has a much
- 9:09better defense than Texas, so we'll see how that goes. But I think
- 9:13Michigan has to win a time of possession to win the game. I don't
- 9:18think it's going to be a blowout. A blowout would surprise me. But
- 9:22I slightly favor Washington in this game. But again, this could be Harboy's
- 9:28last game as Michigan coach. I know I was gonna talk about that now.
- 9:33Obviously, you know, the Husky game against Texas you or mentioned could
- 9:37have gotten overtime too. I mean, at least for all the blowouts we
- 9:41saw in the bowl season, at least these two were competitive. Right.
- 9:43Can the NJA arrested, you know, put hang its head on that.
- 9:48At least yes? And as I, as I said to you last week
- 9:52and week before, those other Bowl games are useless, meaningless. Just fill
- 9:58it for ESPN and Thought Sports won and any network that covers of forty three
- 10:03Bowl games, they're useless. That's why the best competitive games we saw was
- 10:09a National semi final. I mean, look at look at look at Georgia
- 10:13and Florida State. Florida State, twenty nine guys pulling out, twenty nine
- 10:18scholarship football players pulling out What an embarrassment for a team that was thirteen and
- 10:26zero. Horrible to that line of thing, though, there are a lot
- 10:30of people that speculated, well, Georgia's not in this because I don't want
- 10:33to see what happened in the in the championship game last year against TCU.
- 10:37Did that game against FSU show any kind of credence to that because they might
- 10:41have blown out this team. I don't think so. But no, I
- 10:43mean, if you want to know something, Alex and I think we talked
- 10:48about this. I thought, after winning twenty nine games in a row and
- 10:52forty five out of forty six games, even losing to Alabama in the SEC
- 10:56championship game by three points, I thought Georgia was gonna be one of the
- 11:01four teams in the playoffs. And if somebody wants to make an argument that
- 11:05george is the best team in the country, I'm not gonna fight them.
- 11:09I not now. Next year you won't have to worry about that. But
- 11:15by the way, I give a lot of credit to Kirby Smart saying,
- 11:18hey, what the hell is going on around here? Us winning by sixties
- 11:20shouldn't be happening. He did say that, you know, and I give
- 11:24him a lot of credit. I do. But at the same time,
- 11:26it's like in baseball, do you not swing the bat? I mean,
- 11:30I guess when you're on a roll, you gotta go to the end zone
- 11:31anyway, right, I mean, well, again, they took this Alex.
- 11:35It's not like like five of their best guys were gone. Twenty nine
- 11:39of their best guys were gone. I mean, even if you wanted to
- 11:43take it easy on them, maybe they did. Maybe they could score ninety
- 11:46on Florida State. Of course, the one guy I'd love to have on
- 11:52through all these I mean, you could say, harball, But come on,
- 11:54another New Jersey native, Notre Dames, Steven Jelly, third stringer going
- 12:01in there and beating up Oregon State forty points. I mean, look,
- 12:05it's another great story for New Jersey, isn't it. Well he went to
- 12:09Bergen Catholic, which was about ten months from where I used to live,
- 12:13and he did a great job. I did watch. I did watch a
- 12:18lot of that game. Actually I was watching was with you on when we
- 12:24were on the phone talking and I was very impressed with Steve Angelly and he's
- 12:28loyal to Notre Dame because he could he can go into transfer portal and he
- 12:33could start. I mean, if he was in the transfer portal and went
- 12:37to Rutgers, that would be such a boost for Rutgers. What a good
- 12:43fairing. I mean, a surprise firing, a great fairing. We talked
- 12:46about it last week against Miami and a win, which was great for the
- 12:50programming for Schiano to bring back some bull victory back here in Piscal that way,
- 12:56I mean, I mean, obviously, bowl gangs really don't mean anything,
- 12:58but they for certain teams like a Rutgers, they're using They're using that
- 13:05extra game for a lot of different reasons, for extra recruiting, just to
- 13:13you know, to to build a little bit more of a camaraderie. I'm
- 13:20a little built a little bit more history for the for for a school like
- 13:24Rutgers. But for a lot of these things, it means nothing. I
- 13:26mean, we saw how many plays pulled out. It's it's embarrassing and a
- 13:30kick for Rutgers. Melton MaTx melt in the cornerback pulled out two hours before
- 13:35the game. Are you kidding me? Now? Why can't coaches control this
- 13:39either? What is that about? Well, first of all, it's hard.
- 13:45Coaches could try to convince them. But say if one of those guys
- 13:50is convinced by the coach to play and he blows out his knee or Rich's
- 13:54achilles, and that courts and instead of being drafted in the second round,
- 13:58he's not after that at all, and he may not play it, and
- 14:03he may never play. So the coaches are in a very tough spot because
- 14:07the coaches, when you when you're playing for a coach, when parents give
- 14:13up their kid to play football or basketball or hockey, whatever the college sport
- 14:18is, they're entrusting the coach to take care of their kid. And that's
- 14:24not taking care of your kid. All right, One last one, last
- 14:28breaking news on college football before we move on to and I do want to
- 14:33cover some hockey because another great win for the Rangers last night, a great
- 14:37bounce back win after getting blown out by the Hurricanes. We'll talk about that
- 14:39in a second. But you know, Tiger Volia isn't that to his brother
- 14:45is entering the transfer portal? Why is that a big deal? And where
- 14:48do you see him going. I don't know where he's going to be going.
- 14:50But these guys going to the transfer portal. I mean I see that.
- 14:56The kid, you know, Kyle McCord left Ohio State, and the
- 15:01Kansas State quarterback Will Howard is going to Ohio State, Alex. It's crazy.
- 15:05If they don't get control of this, it's just gonna be nuts.
- 15:11And I don't like it. I really don't. I don't. I have
- 15:16no idea what these guys are doing. And I think it's clear Marcus Freeman
- 15:20was not the issue for Notre Dame. That's just their personal choice. And
- 15:22I know I don't is not Marcus Freeman's issue. It is not. I
- 15:28mean, Marcus Streaman is a good coach, he's done a good job,
- 15:31and it's it's not his issue. The other big New Year's Days story was
- 15:37that LSU won, and it was more so that Liberty, which is just
- 15:41down the street basically in Philly. You know, they in Pennsylvania. They
- 15:45made a big Bowl game. I mean they got blown out, but hey,
- 15:48that's a good nod for Liberty. You get there, right, Oh,
- 15:52of course it is. I mean they were thirteen oh, and I
- 15:56believe they're in Virginia. Liberty Virginia. Yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 16:00yep. And again they scored. They were only opening you know,
- 16:07the con tour us and they went downfield and they scored, they missed the
- 16:11extra point. They scored six nothing. And then after that from the second
- 16:15quarter on Oregon, I mean a super team, uh. And they wanted
- 16:21to win obviously, and they won forty five to six. But that's a
- 16:26good step for Liberty considering that, you know, three four years ago they
- 16:29were in Division two. They weren't even in Division one. And of course
- 16:33around here here Mark is his daughter goes to Liberty, so of course there's
- 16:37some rooting interest around these parts also for Rutgers, right, I mean everybody
- 16:41kind of roots for Rutgers in the Jersey part of AM nineteen seventy and what.
- 16:45Yeah, absolutely we want to see Rutgers successful. By the way,
- 16:48he makes interest, I will say, and Dave Populin love that they'll have
- 16:52Jerry Reco on this weekend. Did you know that on his radio chewers.
- 16:56I did not know that, so that means I'll be listening, and yeah,
- 17:00I'm on the production staff, So I figured why not promote a little
- 17:03bit for Dave He's always been a friend to us as he absolutely I worked
- 17:07with him at the nets and then I work with him at scene home.
- 17:11So there you go. But all that to say, this weekend Michigan versus
- 17:15or this Monday Michigan versus Washington. I feel like there's a lot of folks
- 17:21that say in upsets brewing, you know, And someone said to me,
- 17:23how fitting would be of the PAC twelve close the winner? I mean,
- 17:26that's that would be something one n't it? It would be And like I
- 17:30said a couple of minutes ago, I favor Washington slightly. The thing that
- 17:36would surprise me, like I said, I would be I would be surprised
- 17:40if the game's not competitive, that if that's a blowout. But I think
- 17:45there's some factors on each side. It's the end of the big the PAC
- 17:48twelve. Uh so that's a factor for Washington, Uh you know, as
- 17:56I mean, they don't feel like they are in the Big ten yet obviously,
- 18:00And uh then we all know what's gonna happen in Hardboarer. What's gonna
- 18:04happen to Jim Harbour? Is he going to leave? Because remember what's hanging
- 18:08over their head and his head is right, the NCAA allegations. I mean,
- 18:15yes, he's been suspended, but is in more to come? We
- 18:18don't know that. And I think that gives Michigan, the players and us
- 18:23against the world. Oh yeah, this is proving that these teams, these
- 18:27players want to play for Michigan and for Harbor. Right, this is what
- 18:30it's showing basically. Right. No, absolutely, But now now as we
- 18:37cross over into the NFL, obviously Monday and now in the last couple of
- 18:45years, it start on Sunday night. Monday is Black Monday. If Harbor
- 18:52doesn't want to go through all of the torture of what the and it could
- 18:57be his fault that he that he's put Michigan on probation, if they go
- 19:02on probation, or if there's any other sanctions against them, I don't know
- 19:06what's When that was the case, why didn't they do it already to prevent
- 19:08them from getting this far? That's the other question. Well, they may
- 19:11not have all of the information in or they may not reviewed all the information,
- 19:18but just say that, say that he just may not want to be
- 19:21deal with it, and he said hey, and he could say okay,
- 19:26especially if they win Monday night, I left it with your first championship in
- 19:30twenty six years, and who knows the Chargers who need a coach, dangle
- 19:38an incredible contract in front of him, and you go to the Chargers.
- 19:44You have a pretty good team and you have an outstanding quarterback. And have
- 19:48we've seen this year more than ever As by the end of Sunday there'll be
- 19:55sixty six different starting quarterbacks in the NFL. The Browns will start their fifth
- 20:03different quarterback on Sunday as they're resting Flacco. The Vikings have used four quarterbacks
- 20:10but have made five quarterback changes. The Jets have played four quarterbacks. The
- 20:15Giants have played three quarterbacks. I mean, it's a quarterback league, and
- 20:18when you have a chance to move, I think the way it is now,
- 20:23in my opinion, I think the quarterback is a factor and where you
- 20:33want to go it could be harbored. What's going to happen to Belichick?
- 20:36After Sunday? Will will? He? Will? He be gone from the
- 20:41Patriots after you know, twenty three years? After twenty three years, okay,
- 20:45I've been here. I've been here a long time. Just time for
- 20:48something new. Does Belichick go to the Los Angeles Chargers? I don't see
- 20:53him as a West Coast coach. But again, go to you go to
- 21:00the Chargers, you have a quarterback in plays, right, you know.
- 21:04Obviously the other place where they say Belichick would go would be Washington. I
- 21:08know. You know his father was a longtime coach at Navy in the area
- 21:14there, so that that. But again, who would you have to start
- 21:18off with Justin Herbert or Sam Howe. I don't know. No, I'll
- 21:22tell you what I mean. I know, right, you look at though,
- 21:26you look at what Jim Harbaugh has done with the quarterbacks alone. I
- 21:30mean, kay Mcnamerica comes to mind, McCarthy. He's really helped both of
- 21:36those careers get come along, hasn't he. You know, he's an excellent
- 21:41coach. He's an excellent coach ABO or no doubt about it. And yes,
- 21:47and he's one of the way his team plays is the way he played
- 21:51quarterback for the Bears and for the Colts when they almost beat Pittsburgh in ninety
- 21:59five in the AFC Championship game. Came down to the last play and the
- 22:04Pittsburgh was the much better team. But that so Monday's game will be interesting
- 22:11and everything after that will be interesting, but Alex Black Monday could be unbelievable.
- 22:18Washington, J ravera state. I don't think so. Atlanta, Arthur
- 22:25Smith is he state fifty to fifty? Chicago, Matt I would be surprised
- 22:32if the way the Bears have played the last couple of months, if the
- 22:36Bears would make a coaching cham It can't all be on Fields, you know.
- 22:38I think Fields is doing his damnest out there every game he can.
- 22:41I mean, it's just yeah, I know, and he's played very well.
- 22:45And then of course I good if Tampa. If Tampa Bay blow,
- 22:51If Tampa Blay blows the title, winning the division basically at nine and eight
- 22:57by losing to the Carol lineup Panthers, I think Bolts might be gone.
- 23:04And the Chargers need a coach. As we said, Carolina needs a coach.
- 23:10Vegas needs a coach. Do they take do they remove the interim tag
- 23:14from Antonio Pierce and give them the full time job, or do they say
- 23:18no, what we go? Do they go after Harbor? To me,
- 23:22Harbaugh, if he leaves Michigan, it's Vegas or the Chargers. And I
- 23:26mean I think most people say that, but again I'm glad to talking about
- 23:32this because I want to focus on rivalry weekend. I don't care what your
- 23:36record is, Lou, I don't care. The Giants are five and what
- 23:38eleven heading on this begining, I don't care. But it's your chance to
- 23:42knock off the Eagles for winning the division. I mean, these teams and
- 23:45the Jets have a chance to get a better record than the Patriots and Bill
- 23:48Belichick. I know it's different now, but come on, that does say
- 23:52something. Come in here firing up this Sunday. I know it's the last
- 23:56game of the year, coming fired up again to rival right, Well,
- 24:00I mean speaking from I know that the Giants have lost watch fifteen out of
- 24:04the last eighteen to the Eagles, and the Jets have lost fifteen in a
- 24:07row to the Patriots. So yeah, I would say, I would say,
- 24:12so, Alex, I agree with you. You know, you play
- 24:15as as the great Herman Edwards coach quote the great quote by Herman Edwards.
- 24:22You play to win the game. You do that, You're professional. Nobody
- 24:26wants to lose now. They may now the Jets and Giants may come out
- 24:30flat and just want to get into their cars and go home. I don't
- 24:34know. We've seen that many times, and you know, Nick Sirianni says
- 24:41he might rest some of the guys, which I really find hard to believe.
- 24:44I just I just don't believe that they have to win the division.
- 24:47I mean, they have to win a division. I agree with you.
- 24:51So I don't know. I don't know if Sirianne is just saying that to
- 24:56throw people off the you know, the track, or so. For the
- 25:00Giants, they come in a little better at shape because they almost had the
- 25:03Rams last week. They should have had the Rams last week, but they
- 25:07probably should, yes, But for more so, the Egos have come in
- 25:10limping. I mean it's not good. It's they've had some bad losses here
- 25:14down the stretch, and by some chance, the Giants speak them on Sunday
- 25:18they will go in the playoffs. Having those five out of six games,
- 25:21and even on that Christmas Day game that where they beat the Giants, they
- 25:26weren't very impressive. In my opinion. Tyrod came up and cleaned up a
- 25:30little bit after de Vito and held them well. I mean I thought the
- 25:33Giants held them pretty good. It just didn't They fell both the Jets and
- 25:38the Giants are going to be playing to win it. Now I'll show you.
- 25:42I'm so glad you mentioned Flacco because here you have a guy that should
- 25:47have been the Giants. The Jets back up again this year. If you're
- 25:48not gonna Mike White, maybe signed Flacco and see what happens. But you
- 25:52look at the two ones going to the playoffs. One's going on mccaf for
- 25:56Pat mcmcafee shows every week saying in some crab about somebody else, Kimmel and
- 26:02whatnot, Like, are the Jets gonna ever control? Can they control Aaron
- 26:06Rodgers? Firstly? And secondly, doesn't it look bad when your backup quarterback
- 26:10you had last year is going to the playoffs with the Browns while your your
- 26:14QB that was supposed to be the big higher uh is on TV instead of
- 26:17on the field. There's something wrong with that. Well, he did that
- 26:19last year too, Alex Swingers with Green Bay. He did that, he
- 26:23was on McAfee. Remember that. I really don't care about his few with
- 26:30Kimmel. I mean, I don't care, you know, Uh Kimmel is
- 26:36Kimmel, and uh yeah. The only thing I wanted to see I want
- 26:40to see Adam Dge is healthy and if you can get through a full season
- 26:42next year. Gotta remember, the guy's never been hurt. So that was,
- 26:47you know, a very very disappointing thing. Can they control I guess
- 26:49I could say, yeah, we don't want you on McAfee anymore. We'll
- 26:53you know, we'll pay you the million dollars that McAfee pays. You just
- 26:56don't be on there anymore. But again, has been on in the last
- 27:00two years every Tuesday, so and I know, but remember remember this year
- 27:07he had no games to talk about because he wasn't playing. So it's like
- 27:12last year McAfee would ask him what what was going on? You know,
- 27:18was referring to a game that he had played in with Green Bay. That's
- 27:22what the Tuesday was for. But now, I mean, since he got
- 27:26hurt on the first series of plays of the season, they really didn't have
- 27:33any games to talk about. So while we're on the AFC East, I'm
- 27:38hearing some people believe that the Dolphins could actually be disappointed at maybe even you
- 27:44mentioned that. But could the Dolphins after their big year and you mentioned now
- 27:48they only had most of their Wednesday has under five hundred teams? Are they
- 27:52gonna be a bust in the playoffs or what. Well, if they don't
- 27:56succeed in the playoffs, they're going to be labeled the bus. But that's
- 28:00gonna come over a caveat. They have a ton of injuries going into the
- 28:03playoffs, which is the one thing you don't want. That's why so many
- 28:07teams rest their guys. Believe me, even though the Eagles want to win
- 28:11the division or another team will probably want a better position. You want you
- 28:19guys healthy, you really do. And they've lost their two best pass rushers,
- 28:26you know, Xavier Howard, don Uh, they're banged up the Dolphins.
- 28:33Sunday Night's game between the Bills and the Dolphins, it's very very compelling.
- 28:41I mean, just think six weeks ago we thought that we thought the
- 28:45Bills were dead. Now remember there's more pressure on the on the on the
- 28:51Bills because if they lose, they're probably not gonna make the playoffs. So
- 28:56well, and I kind of was surprised at the Raymond were able to run
- 29:00all over Miami last week. That was I was. I did not expect
- 29:03them to blow him out that much, but you know it happened. Yeah,
- 29:07No, I did not expect that that game to go the way that
- 29:11game wins. I agree with you and Baltimore too, because Lamar Jackson has
- 29:18had two bad playoff games. You know, he's had some bad playoff games
- 29:23in his career, and uh, he's probably gonna win MVP. And he
- 29:30I think he's better this year than he's than he's ever been. He throws
- 29:33the ball better than he's ever thrown it. Maybe he'll maybe if they don't
- 29:38do well, they will remove everything about the Ravens again from his social media,
- 29:41only to come back a year later. I mean, come on.
- 29:45You know he's got a bit of a temper too, so I'm sure he
- 29:48wants to He's motivated to do something this year. I'll tell you that much.
- 29:52I could just sense it, you know. Yeah, no, he
- 29:55he is motivated. And uh they're a great organization. They're probably the best
- 30:00organization along with the Steelers in the NFL. I'm seeing now about dot Com.
- 30:07By the way, speaking of running quarterbacks, running backs, Derrick Henry
- 30:11might be leaving the Titans for free agency. That's gonna be something to watch.
- 30:14I know we're gonna cover all that after the Super Bowl, right that
- 30:17the world, so we'll see back to this week and Lamar, I mean,
- 30:22obviously they're against the Steelers, and you know, those games have always
- 30:25been fun to watch, whether it's in steel City, in Pittsburgh or in
- 30:29Baltimore. It always comes down to the wire, does it? It does?
- 30:33And I mean they have they have a decent backup in Hunley, so
- 30:37obviously they're not going to risk putting, uh, putting Lamar Jackson out there,
- 30:44and I wouldn't either, and uh, but those games are always good.
- 30:48But the Steelers remarkably, remarkably might make the playoffs. And I know
- 30:55sometimes people criticize Tomlin, it's a hell of a coach man. He's a
- 31:00heck of a coach. I mean, he really is. For saying he
- 31:06could be out on the you know, out of a job, so and
- 31:07you're like, no, Tolman's going to be there another year, And you're
- 31:11right, He's always there. Even if they have the worst year, he
- 31:12somehow finds his way back in there as coach. You know, he's never
- 31:15had a losing record, he's never had a losing record as Steelers coach.
- 31:21And he's been there watch sixteen seventeen years. Yeah, yeah, yep.
- 31:26And Trubisky is a very interesting story, only because I saw him struggle in
- 31:30Chicago and yet here he is. I mean, the guy and Pickett,
- 31:34the two of them have kind of willed this team, haven't they. Well,
- 31:37Mason Rudolf's the guy who saved them last two and obviously he's not the
- 31:45long term answer, but Mason Rudolf has saved in the last two games unless
- 31:52and he'll be quarterbacking the rest of the way, whether they make the playoffs
- 31:56or not. But they've been The feelers are probably gonna look for a quarterback
- 32:04also, even though I don't know. I don't think they've given up on
- 32:07Kenny Pickett, but I think, uh, you know, they're going to
- 32:13be looking for a quarterback upgrade if they can find one, do you think.
- 32:21I mean, we'll talk about the draft too, but I'm just thinking
- 32:23that Caleb Williams stilla. Is he still a big candidate to be drafted high?
- 32:28Or is stockgun low for for some of these teams. The only thing
- 32:30with Caleb Williams is he has a propensity to turn the ball over. That'd
- 32:37be the only thing. And other quarterbacks have come up to me, and
- 32:40I know we talked about Michigan and Washington, the guy that I think should
- 32:46be drafted number one. And I and I'm not a draft nick. I'm
- 32:50not, you know, one of these draft nick type guys. But boy
- 32:59Pennis Junior, if I can't believe he can't be drafted in the first or
- 33:06second pick of the draft, he's in my opinion, he's that good.
- 33:09But you know, we'll see. They have to go through the Indianapolis for
- 33:19this, you know, the scouting cowmine, and we'll see what happens.
- 33:22But I love Michael Pennix Jr. I really do. I know well,
- 33:28he was in the Heightsman running for a long time and he should have won
- 33:31it. I didn't want it exactly. I don't know how he doesn't,
- 33:35but I know that he was willing Washington every week. You know, one
- 33:37thing about the NFL before we bounch to hockey and close up the football talk
- 33:42is this has been a year upside down this I mean here in our own
- 33:45backyard. Who'd have thought Jones and Rogers would be out for most of the
- 33:50year, especially Rogers on four snaps. Who thought the Chiefs would only go
- 33:53ten and six? Or you know, up until this point, I mean,
- 33:57there's been a lot of upside down in this NFL hasn't there. It's
- 34:00basically similar to what the baseball season was like, which was upside down.
- 34:06But no, you're right, and it has not been. In my opinion,
- 34:08I don't think this was a good year for the NFL as far as
- 34:12the caliber of play on the field, and a lot of it had to
- 34:15do with the quarterback injuries last week. Last week, out of the sixteen
- 34:20AFC quarterbacks, eleven of them were backups, only five who started on opening
- 34:25day. And whether it's that team's number one quarterback started last week, that's
- 34:30amazing. And when you don't, when you don't have good quarterback play,
- 34:36you don't have good games. No you don't. You don't. That's why
- 34:42they protect these quarterbacks. Yeah, by the way, Josh Allen, I
- 34:46think comes out victorious because Buffalo has been riding a good streak here the last
- 34:51few weeks and I'm watching them, and of course I'm watching a lot of
- 34:55the schedule this week, and I want the rivalry games to go. You
- 34:59know, the team no room for I don't care what the record. I
- 35:00don't care the Bears are seven and nine, beat them Tackers. I mean,
- 35:05I have some respect. I'm telling you if I was the Packers,
- 35:07and I think the pack the Packers are still in it. Uh nothing.
- 35:12The Bears were like nothing more and they're playing very well. Than to go
- 35:15up to Lambeau and uh and and and beat Green Bay. I agree with
- 35:22you, they will. The Bears will play hard. I'm going to get
- 35:24and give you that guarantee, and then uh well, we'll have to see.
- 35:29Although eight and nine, of course, I think it's a win and
- 35:31get in scenario to Green Bay. So Chicago is gonna want to knock them
- 35:37out. Yeah. See, I guess the NFL wanted this last week to
- 35:43be all rivalry, hoping for a different outcome in every in every division,
- 35:46that all these would be more competitive. Is that what they're thinking? Was
- 35:51right? Oh? Absolutely? I mean for a long time. I mean
- 35:53I remember times where games weren't divisional the last week the season you know you
- 36:00were playing you were playing the Seattle Seahawks, if you were the Jets or
- 36:07uh, you know, a couple of years ago the Giants played I think
- 36:08the uh, the Raiders. Those games, those games mean nothing. The
- 36:14NFL did a good thing by making the last week rivalry rivalry week as far
- 36:21as divisional games go, all right, and I know we've talked about this
- 36:25a ton of times, but well we see a different look team I met
- 36:30life for both the Giants and Jets. When all of a sudden done,
- 36:34I mean, will Joe Shane make the right moves? Well, the Jets
- 36:37make the right moves and and and what do you see in the offseason here?
- 36:40Well, obviously for the Jets is very simple. Just pray that uh,
- 36:46they keep Rogers healthy. I mean that change that changes everything. But
- 36:51they what their number one goal as far as rebuilding is getting that offensive lineup
- 36:58to snuff, uh, Because really their defense is very good and the Briest
- 37:05Hall is tremendous. I mean, and they've been underutilizing him because their offensive
- 37:10line stinks. But even with that, he's seventh in the NFL in scrimmage
- 37:17yards at eighty eight a game for running back, seventh in the NFL.
- 37:23Obviously, they got Garrett Wilson's tremendous. They could they need another wide receiver,
- 37:28but they have to build up the offensive line. They'll be very good.
- 37:31I mean, the Giants have to build up their offensive line. I
- 37:34mean eighty three sacks, I mean that's I mean, that's unbelievable. Daniel
- 37:42Jones is going to be the quarterback next year. We'll know. We'll know
- 37:45on Sunday night. Gihnt's gonna draft as high as two, as low as
- 37:52six or seven. They're gonna have a chance to get one of the quarterbacks.
- 37:54Whether it's Heisman Trophy winning Jaden Daniels, whether it's Michael Pennix junior,
- 38:00whether it's Drake may or whoever it might be. Are you going to pass
- 38:07on a quarterback and I think is done? You were telling me, right,
- 38:10you say that's that's all. I don't think he's done as a player.
- 38:14I just I think he's done as a giant. I mean, I
- 38:17mean the Johnts would be really would really again, I think it would just
- 38:22be a bad decision to give him a contract. I really. Look.
- 38:27Look Isaiah Pichekhov of the piece drifted in the seventh round. He's been more
- 38:34productive. Yes, I know he plays on a better team. He's been
- 38:36more productive than Barkley. And you can go right down the line again,
- 38:40I said it, and I love Barkley at Penn State. I'm a Penn
- 38:44State guy. I like to see Penn State do well. I would have
- 38:49never used my especially then when the Giants were trying to rebuild from you know,
- 38:53trying to rebuild a team. I would have never picked a running back
- 38:57number two overall. If I was, you know, a team like in
- 39:01contention that somehow got the number two pick through a trade, whether it be
- 39:07a Dallas or a Philly, then you can do it. But you can't
- 39:10do it when you try and to build your team from scratch. That's just
- 39:15my opinion. I would never draft the Jets that did the right thing.
- 39:20They drafted the best running back in the draft two years ago with the thirty
- 39:24fourth pick in the second round. After they drafted the the NFL offensive rookie
- 39:32of the year Garrett Wilson, and the NFL defensive rookie of the year in
- 39:38Sauce Cotton last year. Oh yeah, yeah, So, I mean those
- 39:43first three picks that the Jets made last year were tremendous, all right,
- 39:46Louis sleeper picks to make it to the playoffs. My pick is actually the
- 39:51Falcons. I know there's a lot of hurdles for them, but I just
- 39:53feel the Falcons. I know you were breaking a doubt for me before we
- 39:57went on air today. Yeah, I mean Atlanta needs a little bit of
- 40:02a miracle. They could only get in by winning the division, and Tampa
- 40:09Bay would have to lose to the worst team in the league, the Carolina
- 40:13Panthers, to get in. Can it happened, Yeah, it can,
- 40:15it can happen. I think Tampa Bay if you want to talk about a
- 40:21sleeper team that's not in the playoffs, I think they're pretty good. I
- 40:23think Baker Mayfield's done a good job for them, and I actually thought they
- 40:28would win a few more games than they did this year. But if they
- 40:32lose to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, they both getting fired. He's got
- 40:39it. And on the ABC side, you know a lot of talks about
- 40:44made about Allen's resurgeons and the Browns and Flacco you were mentioning earlier. But
- 40:50don't sleep on the Jacksonville Jaguars. That's my other pick for this week and
- 40:53for the playoffs scenario. That's just my thought process heading in the week eighteen.
- 40:58Well, Trevor Lawrence is banged up, but he'll he'll play through it.
- 41:06And yeah, I thought that I thought this was gonna be where they
- 41:09were gonna take the big lead Jacksonville, so you know they have a tough
- 41:15game. I mean, I know Tennessee has had a good year. But
- 41:20you talked about you talked about Henry that he this was his last and it
- 41:28is his last game in the tiny new form. I am sure he's going
- 41:31to be fired up to go out on a good note. So Sunday will
- 41:38be an interesting day. Sleeper team in the AFC is the Cleveland Browns.
- 41:45If everything goes according to plan, they might play the AFC South winner in
- 41:54the first round, even though it's on the road. I assume that Browns
- 41:59will be favored, so they would be my sleeper. They would be my
- 42:05sleeper team in the AFC. In the NFC, my sleeper team. The
- 42:14Los Angeles Rams would be my sleeper team. He's done a great job.
- 42:17Everybody thought they would win four games. I can't say the Lions because the
- 42:23Lions are eleven and five, but again, if you want me to say
- 42:29one to one A. Obviously the Rams would truly be a sleeper team or
- 42:35the Lions, but the Lions have more cachet and have had more notoriety.
- 42:40Who knows, you might see a Lions Brown Super Bowl and on that note,
- 42:45I know we should talk about hockey, but we got a moment.
- 42:47I really wanted to pick your brain about this college football stuff because the scenarios
- 42:52of the overtime should be changed. And that's where we started today. And
- 42:57one last thing, Lou, in twenty twenty four, I know we end
- 43:00through this way, but for this show, where do you want to see
- 43:02it go by the end of twenty twenty four? What's your goal for our
- 43:07podcast? Yes, for Terminello's Take, I would like to I would like
- 43:10to see it listen to buy more, more and more people, that's for
- 43:16sure. And maybe we could we could do some things and obviously we've talked
- 43:21about getting some doing more interviews and stuff like that. But I think there's
- 43:28a lot a lot we can do to make the show to show better and
- 43:31greater, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to do it.
- 43:36I always love your insight, Lou. That's why I have you on Terminello's
- 43:38Take every week here, So even though it's a Friday, it's every week,
- 43:42and I love this kind of en a week wrap up with you.
- 43:45It's it's very fun. So let's do this again. I look forward to
- 43:50it. Thank you very much, Alex
