- 0:06Welcome back to The Most Important Question Today, where in just a couple minutes or less, we apply the Actually Pro-Life Principles to a news headline and then help you answer the most important question, what can I do?
- 0:18[ on-hold music] And we are back just in time for the plague, which if you're pregnant right now or you've got a baby at home or whatever, your feed probably spent the entire weekend trying to scare you about.
- 0:37However, wrong disease, wrong time. As of a couple days ago, Pennsylvania has one thousand and four measles cases this year across thirty-nine counties.
- 0:46A hundred and ninety-eight people in the old hospital, five dead, and the American Academy of Pediatrics says two of them were babies.
- 0:53One state, about a quarter of every measles case in the US this year, which is not something I ever wanted to say, and the first measles deaths there in thirty-five years. Here's the good news, though.
- 1:03People are getting the message. Pennsylvania gave more than forty-nine thousand measles shots in August and fifty-three thousand in September. That's twice as many as usual. Parents are showing up twice over.
- 1:16Now let's head over to the CDC's own measles page. As of a couple days ago, it says two people have died of measles in the US this year. Two in the whole country. Pennsylvania alone says five.
- 1:28The CDC's explanation in writing is that it's still working out a definition of what counts as a measles death. So yeah, look, the first deaths were six weeks ago. Here's what I would do.
- 1:40If you are pregnant or you've got a newborn, ask your doctor one question today. Am I immune to measles?
- 1:46Because pediatricians say a baby born to a mom who catches measles right before delivery has about a one in four chance of catching it, too. No bueno.
- 1:54And then head over to whatcanido.earth and tell Congress to make the CDC count measles deaths the way that states do. See ya. [on-hold music] Thanks for listening.
