- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well, we have
- 0:07Speaker 1: some developing breaking news. As we reported on a couple
- 0:11Speaker 1: weeks ago, the Trump administration actually threatened to demolish the
- 0:19Speaker 1: Kennedy Center. And then, of course, a ceiling tile fell
- 0:23Speaker 1: in the midst of heavy rains in D.C. Well, there's
- 0:26Speaker 1: an update to that, and I want to bring it
- 0:27Speaker 1: to you right here at One Look Up Alex Media. Today,
- 0:33Speaker 1: September 15th, 2026, the Kennedy Center voted to close immediately
- 0:40Speaker 1: for renovations. That's right, the Kennedy Center. After a federal
- 0:46Speaker 1: judge said you could not put Trump's name on the building, said, okay,
- 0:54Speaker 1: we're closing down for two years to shutter the center.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Arguing the facilities and such disrepair. It poses. Frequent. Repairs.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It poses safety concerns. The two are very much related.
- 1:15Speaker 1: But again. On September 20. 2015. 2026. The USA Today reporting.
- 1:24Speaker 1: The board of the John F. Kennedy Center. For the
- 1:26Speaker 1: performing arts. The Kennedy Center. Kennedy Honors will be closing
- 1:32Speaker 1: for two years, pushed by Donald Trump and his administration.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'll tell you, I wonder if it would have changed
- 1:41Speaker 1: today if they did put the name on the Kennedy Center,
- 1:45Speaker 1: if they were allowed to. This feels rapidly changing. Rapidly changing, folks.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Because just a couple weeks ago they wanted to demolish
- 2:08Speaker 1: the damn building and that's not possible. So now the
- 2:12Speaker 1: board who is heavily Trump influenced is closing for two
- 2:16Speaker 1: years for renovation. That in addition to the fact that
- 2:26Speaker 1: an ISIS inspired militant had to be Thankfully stopped from
- 2:34Speaker 1: performing a mass casualty act. What a mess. Then we
- 2:43Speaker 1: see that Rep. Thomas Massey wants to impeach Pete Hegseth
- 2:50Speaker 1: over the Iranian war. What a mess. And that's the backdrop.
- 2:56Speaker 1: For midterms 2026, this is the backdrop we're looking at.
- 3:02Speaker 1: A closed down Kennedy Center. A Secretary of War that's
- 3:08Speaker 1: now under impeachment threat. A war that doesn't seem to
- 3:12Speaker 1: be ending anytime soon. Prices of gas and then food
- 3:18Speaker 1: through the roof because of this war. And a pro-ISIS
- 3:22Speaker 1: militant stopped. Which means ISIS has not been entirely destroyed
- 3:26Speaker 1: and that scares me. But this is the backdrop of
- 3:30Speaker 1: to the midterms 2026. The disarray. The, if I don't
- 3:37Speaker 1: get my way, I'm closing things down. That has to stop.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And even Karl Rove admitted he might vote Democrat this year.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Which is insane, but it might happen. Look, I love
- 3:54Speaker 1: a little chaos. I think chaos is kind of interesting
- 3:56Speaker 1: at times, but not this. This is And a mess
- 4:05Speaker 1: that could have been avoided. We should have ended this
- 4:08Speaker 1: war months ago with a victory. We should have not
- 4:16Speaker 1: even thought to put Trump's name on the Kennedy Center.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But his board wanted that. And his board didn't get it.
- 4:25Speaker 1: So what do they say? They say, okay, we're going
- 4:27Speaker 1: to close down for two years. Two years! Two years!
- 4:31Speaker 1: We'll follow up and figure out where the Kennedy Center
- 4:32Speaker 1: Honors is. And then you've got these Republicans that now
- 4:38Speaker 1: want to impeach their own Secretary of War. Apparently today
- 4:41Speaker 1: you've got Supreme Court justices against their own president who
- 4:47Speaker 1: appointed them. This is disarray at its finest. And if
- 4:55Speaker 1: disarray can be covered up by an incredible... convention where
- 5:00Speaker 1: they had all these inspirational speeches and Trump went two
- 5:02Speaker 1: hours and all that. So be it. But I don't
- 5:05Speaker 1: think they can. That convention was a truly last-ditch effort
- 5:08Speaker 1: because overall, this is a damn mess. A real mess
- 5:16Speaker 1: of things. And after we talked about it two weeks ago,
- 5:22Speaker 1: saying they wanted to demolish the Kennedy Center, well, this
- 5:24Speaker 1: is better than that. But again, Trump didn't get his way,
- 5:28Speaker 1: so they're closing it down for two years. Two years!
- 5:36Speaker 1: And maybe for the better. But it definitely feels political,
- 5:40Speaker 1: more so than for the good of the institution of
- 5:43Speaker 1: the Kennedy Center. And this should be a concern. It
- 5:57Speaker 1: should be a concern. Because when Trump doesn't get his way,
- 6:04Speaker 1: he shuts things down. He scales back exercises with South
- 6:08Speaker 1: Korea when they didn't want to back the Iran effort.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I mean, what is going on here? Why can't he
- 6:19Speaker 1: just accept a defeat and not take it steps further? Now,
- 6:25Speaker 1: maybe the renovations are good. Maybe the renovations will be
- 6:34Speaker 1: good for the Kennedy Center. But it doesn't feel like
- 6:38Speaker 1: it comes naturally. It feels like it has to be.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And then you've got the Iran security chief today saying that...
- 6:56Speaker 1: They don't want to talk with us. I say blow
- 7:00Speaker 1: out the entire regime out the water. I mean, come on.
- 7:03Speaker 1: What are we doing? What are we doing with this?
- 7:07Speaker 1: We're focused on selling some of Yosemite Park and demolishing
- 7:11Speaker 1: the Kennedy Center? Are you kidding? Are you effing kidding me?
- 7:19Speaker 1: This can't be real life in a way. That all
- 7:25Speaker 1: our priorities are on these little minuscule things. Now it's cultural,
- 7:32Speaker 1: which is a big deal, but minuscule in the size
- 7:34Speaker 1: of we have a war to win or end before midterms.
- 7:40Speaker 1: That would benefit for either party. Because then you can
- 7:43Speaker 1: focus on how radical the left is. And you can
- 7:49Speaker 1: also focus on how messy the GOP is. Darlene Graham's
- 7:55Speaker 1: not served a lick of anything. And yet because of
- 8:02Speaker 1: her name, because of her brother suddenly passing away, Lindsey Graham,
- 8:09Speaker 1: she's the nominee endorsed by Trump. Because Ken Paxton probably
- 8:15Speaker 1: supported Trump more than Cornyn ever did. He gets Trump's endorsement.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Trump's not thinking about the party. He's thinking about who
- 8:22Speaker 1: his loyalty lies. And that's not going to help him
- 8:24Speaker 1: in the long run. Because loyalty should lie with what
- 8:32Speaker 1: the American people should want and the Republican voters should want,
- 8:37Speaker 1: not who supports who. I'm getting a little tired of
- 8:48Speaker 1: all these distractions from the bigger picture, which is they
- 8:52Speaker 1: are really afraid the midterms are not going to go
- 8:54Speaker 1: their way. So they're trying to pull out every stop
- 8:57Speaker 1: before it happens. And every stop is just sending them
- 9:01Speaker 1: back further. The Kennedy Center. On September 15th, 2026. Absolutely losing. Well, shuddering.
- 9:20Speaker 1: The Kennedy Center because he lost that battle. And if
- 9:24Speaker 1: this is the next two years... I'm very curious to
- 9:29Speaker 1: see how this goes. Because if it's truly Trump's way
- 9:32Speaker 1: in the highway and not the American people's way in
- 9:35Speaker 1: the highway or the highway, then we're in for something
- 9:40Speaker 1: deeper than just a lost midterms. We're in for more chaos.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And at a time where we're at war and yes,
- 9:53Speaker 1: no boots are on the ground, but we are at war.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Chaos is the last thing we need. At home or abroad.
- 10:03Speaker 1: And that's my message at One Look Up Alex Media.
