Latest / BREAK/FIX the Motorsports & Vehicle Enthusiast Variety Show / Pit Stop: What’s a Porsche Purist anyway? (Patreon Special Re-release)
Transcript
- 0:00We always have a blast chatting with our guests about all sorts of
- 0:03different topics, but sometimes we go off the rails and dig deeper into
- 0:07their automotive and motorsports pasts.
- 0:09As a bonus, let's go behind the scenes with this pit stop mini sode
- 0:13for some extra content that didn't quite fit in the main episode.
- 0:17Sit back, enjoy, and remember to like, Patreon.
- 0:24I just would like more people to appreciate the
- 0:27fact rather than the fiction.
- 0:29And, uh, we didn't get into the transmission, but the transmission's now
- 0:33at the haunted house in Los Las Vegas and you have, you know, you're buying an
- 0:37expensive ticket to look at a transmission that supposedly is very cursed heavily.
- 0:44Yeah.
- 0:44Haunted by the boogeyman.
- 0:46Yeah, exactly.
- 0:46Heavily first.
- 0:47Um, the funny thing about the transmission is it's not something
- 0:50that you really can embrace.
- 0:52You know, it's a, it's just a transmission and the car is more embraceable.
- 0:57And I feel much better about, you know, that I don't think we're
- 1:01going to find the little bastard.
- 1:03I've always felt that it was disposed of, as I mentioned before, nobody
- 1:08really cared about James Dean's car.
- 1:10When I saw it in 1960, it was losing its character.
- 1:13It was falling apart.
- 1:15And I think that it got disposed of by George Barris.
- 1:18Of course he died in November of 2015.
- 1:21And all the facts and all the secrets and all the mystique, uh, went with him.
- 1:26We're going to have to live with that.
- 1:27I think it would be kind of cool though, that if it was found that it could be put
- 1:31back together from the remaining pieces that have been scattered, like bringing it
- 1:35back together, and even if it wasn't, it's never going to be fully restored, like the
- 1:39speedster, but even restored to the point of the accident would be kind of neat.
- 1:43Well, it's something to think about and people do dream about it.
- 1:46And there's been a lot of bogus attempts.
- 1:49To offer a million dollars for, you know, finding the car and somebody had
- 1:54a scam that they felt that it was hidden between two walls in Washington State.
- 2:00That's all been debunked, debunked by private investigators, by myself,
- 2:05by others, but It's It keeps, you know, it keeps this thing going.
- 2:09It really does.
- 2:10Let me know what you find out on that works engineer that was
- 2:13supposedly killed in the factory.
- 2:14Yeah, we, we can do part two.
- 2:19There's always time for more.
- 2:20So a funny thing, coincidentally, our common denominator is Bob Gutierrez.
- 2:24That's correct.
- 2:26I had mentioned that my friend's father's speedster, which I've known for 40
- 2:30years, says I will bring a trailer.
- 2:32You'll take a look at it.
- 2:33And the interesting thing is, uh, Bob saw it and contacted me
- 2:36and said, what about this car?
- 2:38Who, you know, who owns this car?
- 2:39You know, Bob's always looking for something, but he's got a speedster.
- 2:43It's a nice car.
- 2:44Yeah.
- 2:44I remember just between you and I, you know, Bob was his first wife.
- 2:49He was I had a lot of garage space and he was, he had a couple of cars hidden away
- 2:54in my garages because he was not going to tell his wife that he was buying cars.
- 3:02Luckily, Ellen, Ellen is pro car.
- 3:04So, you know, Hey, yeah, no, I definitely, I think he had three cars
- 3:07in my garage at one time, the 914, the white coupe, and maybe the speedster.
- 3:12I'm not sure.
- 3:13I think a lot of people on the Boxster forums, it's really amazing
- 3:18because a lot of Boxsters in Europe.
- 3:20And You know, they just have a whole different mentality about Porsche.
- 3:24They're not used to, they're complaining about how expensive things are.
- 3:28Well, that's just because they're British.
- 3:31But the interesting thing is, they really don't know what
- 3:34the terminology of roadster is.
- 3:36And I said, aside from Gamon, the first 356, the 914 was the second roadster.
- 3:45And people don't get it.
- 3:46It's a two seater.
- 3:48And then someone said, well, how about the Speedster?
- 3:50I said, the Speedster's got two little jump seats in the back.
- 3:52Yeah, two plus two.
- 3:53I used to take my kids back there, you know?
- 3:56And I said, it's not a Roadster.
- 3:58And even though Porsche had a Roadster, it really wasn't a Roadster.
- 4:02They still had those little jump seats.
- 4:03The Boxster is really the third generation of a Roadster.
- 4:08Strictly a two seater.
- 4:10Whereas British cars were always two seaters, you know?
- 4:13Yep.
- 4:13Every time somebody says how much they love their Cayman or their Boxster, I'm
- 4:17glad to see that you finally acknowledged that the 914 was the right answer.
- 4:24I always liked the 914.
- 4:26I mean, you know, people talk about, oh, it's a Volkswagen.
- 4:28No, it's a Porsche.
- 4:30The fact is it saved Porsche, the nine 14, just like the boxer saved Porsche.
- 4:35Well, there's a lot of that back and forth, especially with the 9 24.
- 4:39So the nine 14, yeah, the 9 24.
- 4:40Exactly.
- 4:41So the, the funny thing is, let's face it, BW and Porsche have been tied at
- 4:45the hip since day one, so it doesn't, it's not like, you know, it's a stretch.
- 4:49The nine 14 has a ton of beetle parts on it, and so does the nine 11 and the 3 56.
- 4:53And so does the 3 56, right?
- 4:55Yeah.
- 4:56The nine 14 was designed.
- 4:58By VW, it was built by Porsche, right?
- 5:01It's one of those things, just like the 924 was supposed to be a Volkswagen and
- 5:06what they decided to do instead because it was cheaper than meant than tooling
- 5:11up a new chassis was to take the golf chassis and build a Scirocco as their
- 5:15sport coupe instead, which was some consider a misstep and others consider it
- 5:20the Scirocco cult classic, but it's not.
- 5:23It was powered by a VW, Audi, it was an Audi truck motor of 924, right?
- 5:29So, I mean, it had so many Volkswagen bits in it.
- 5:31It's not even funny and you can cross match them and all that kind of stuff.
- 5:34So they've always been inbred.
- 5:36Let's, let's be serious, but the true Porsche purist, you know, the 911 owners,
- 5:41especially the 911s of the seventies and eighties, they're like, well, if
- 5:44it isn't a 911, it's not a Porsche.
- 5:46And it's like, well, get out of here.
- 5:48You know, Eric, I never felt that way.
- 5:49I had a nine 12 and when I went to join the Porsche club.
- 5:54In 1966, I had like the first nine 12.
- 5:57And so when I stood up and introduced myself.
- 6:00They didn't say anything for a few seconds and they booed me and I saw what they
- 6:04were doing and I said, but I had a 356 and they booed me louder and I said, I,
- 6:09after they got done, I said, you know, who needs this shit and I walked right, right.
- 6:14I didn't come back till 1972.
- 6:17I could have been in the Porsche Club for over 50 years, but it shows
- 6:20you the mentality of what it was.
- 6:22356, 912, not a 912, not a 911.
- 6:25I never looked, you know, I liked the 914s.
- 6:27I mean, the club prospered because they were a 914.
- 6:32And they were good autocross cars.
- 6:33I remember that.
- 6:35Yeah.
- 6:35I'm sorry that I don't own one.
- 6:38And you know, and nowadays they're, well, they haven't climbed as much as some of
- 6:41the other ones have, but the price on a 914 has gotten pretty high these days.
- 6:45But I, I tell, I've told my wife before I said, you know, although we had
- 6:48too many cars, I would love to have a regular one along with this one.
- 6:54It would just, it would be cool to have two fun to drive.
- 6:57Yeah.
- 6:57Just to say I have a stock one and then I have this Frankenstein, right?
- 7:00So, because it's, again, it's impossible to go backwards with this car.
- 7:04It would cost too much to do and it's just not worth it.
- 7:06And I don't know where the original panels are.
- 7:08I'd have to find them, you know, that kind of thing.
- 7:10Yeah.
- 7:11So I, I just tell you, I have a Boxster that I bought first generation.
- 7:15It was, I've got it in Atlanta.
- 7:17Guy was 89 years old.
- 7:19Couldn't do the clutch anymore.
- 7:20Really took care of it.
- 7:21He lived in a heated and air conditioned garage.
- 7:24Took it to the Porsche Parade.
- 7:27I didn't know where all the nooks and crannies were.
- 7:29This car was new to me.
- 7:30But I scored 98 points.
- 7:33I finished second.
- 7:34And I'm taking it to Pocono.
- 7:36And I was, I was wondering.
- 7:37Yeah.
- 7:37Yeah.
- 7:38And I'm going to finish first because that's the kind of guy I want to be.
- 7:41I want that car to be first.
- 7:44And to make mom mad.
- 7:45So after you get first, then you can drive it a little bit.
- 7:48You don't care as much.
- 7:49Yeah, exactly.
- 7:51Exactly.
- 7:52So, you know, just tell you one thing I'm going to be 77.
- 7:55So I took all the wheels off, jacked it up, you know, I'm
- 7:58under there cleaning everything.
- 8:00So, um, so at the end of the first day, I, you know, maybe I did the right rear
- 8:05and I couldn't get up off the ground.
- 8:08I just, you know, I just thought I could stand up.
- 8:10I just was like, Molded to the ground.
- 8:13I couldn't get up.
- 8:14So age is a factor.
- 8:15You got to do everything when you're young.
- 8:18Oh, and since you mentioned, I'll leave you with this.
- 8:20Um, so if you get a chance to go back to the catalog, this episode
- 8:24hasn't come out yet, but I'll send you a note when it does.
- 8:27I got the opportunity took me a year, but I got him.
- 8:30I got him on the line.
- 8:31I got to interview Chuck Bennett, the founder of Zymal.
- 8:35And I tell you what, he has an epic story and some of the cars that he
- 8:40has literally put his own hands on that he's worked on and, and all
- 8:44these, it was, it was beautiful.
- 8:46And to your point about concourse, I mean, he's all about it.
- 8:49And one of his sayings is, Sometimes it's not the car you need.
- 8:54It's the car that needs you.
- 8:56And that's, and that you talk about starting big.
- 8:58I mean, we just open with that.
- 9:00You're like, Whoa.
- 9:02Yeah.
- 9:02The car needed me, you know, because I, even though I'm myopic, I have
- 9:06a good set of eyes, you know, I, I, I see things that could be better.
- 9:11And I said to Portia, I said like Portia really, you know, really
- 9:14got cheap on these parts, you know, they're not going to hold up there.
- 9:18You know, they're, they're dust collectors.
- 9:19You know, they didn't polish them off.
- 9:21They could have done a better job.
- 9:23It's those stories.
- 9:24There's a lot of plastic in the Boxster.
- 9:26I'm not used to that.
- 9:27That's for sure.
- 9:28What's really funny is for the longest time, I was always in
- 9:32love with the car Magia, right?
- 9:33I always thought that was the coolest thing.
- 9:35And again, another beetle based vehicle, whatever.
- 9:38Later I discovered, cause I nerd out on slightly more modern cars and.
- 9:43I found that, you know, everybody's, oh, the 914 is such an ugly duckling,
- 9:48this and that, and the other, and I had this affinity for the Audi TT, the very
- 9:52first ones that came out, and I did a little homework, a little research, and
- 9:55obviously they're based on the Beetle when they reintroduced it, and so was
- 9:58the Golf and all the rest of them that came out during that time period, 98 to,
- 10:02or 97, 98 for the Beetle through 2005.
- 10:06At any rate, I realized what happened there was much like
- 10:09what happened with the 924 story.
- 10:11The TT was actually designed by Volkswagen, and they were going to
- 10:15launch both cars side by side, the Beetle and the Karmann Ghia at the same time.
- 10:21And Audi swept in and said, no, no, no, we need a two door coupe.
- 10:23We need to do this, this, and the other because of heritage and some BS.
- 10:27And we haven't had a two door car since the original UR Quattro.
- 10:30Well, they had the second gen, but it wasn't, you know, wasn't
- 10:32anything right home about.
- 10:33So they swept in and they said, Oh, we'll call it the tourist trophy and blah,
- 10:36blah, blah, which is a terrible name.
- 10:37And they shortened it to the TT.
- 10:39I own a TT.
- 10:40It's a race car.
- 10:41And it's much like this thing.
- 10:42It's a Frankenstein, but there's something about, I always told
- 10:46my mom and she's rode in the car with me before it got ridiculous.
- 10:50You'd get in the car and you'd close the doors.
- 10:53And it had the same feel and actually the same sound and some of the componentry.
- 10:57And she's like, this feels just like the 914.
- 11:00And I'm like, yeah, there's just something odd about this car, you know?
- 11:04And, and so, you know, I've grown into that, but having this back in my life
- 11:08now, it's, it's just, it's been amazing.
- 11:09And I've never given up on, you know, my PCA membership or anything like that.
- 11:13And what's funny is, um, you know, I worked at national and all that stuff for
- 11:17many years and all that kind of thing.
- 11:18So.
- 11:19But I always, I go back to some of these meetings now and people are
- 11:23like, what kind of Porsche do you have?
- 11:24And I'm like, I have a 74 914 and they just look at me like I've
- 11:27fallen off of the moon, you know, the
- 11:34914 had a good run, uh, six years.
- 11:39Well, didn't last as long.
- 11:41No.
- 11:42And you know what?
- 11:42A lot of people are either with the 912V, you know, exactly.
- 11:46And a lot of people are looking for 912Vs right now because they're
- 11:48like, it's a 911, but it has one.
- 11:51Oh, I know.
- 11:52I know.
- 11:53I know who you bought it from someone in the club.
- 11:55Oh, nice.
- 11:56But let me say this.
- 11:57Bob Carlson, who really was a big promoter of Porsche when they were at
- 12:01Nevada, I saw him at his 50th anniversary speech event at Carmel in 2004.
- 12:08And he, and I said to him, who's going to be the caretaker?
- 12:12Who's going to care about Porsches?
- 12:13You know, and he said, well, that's one of my concerns.
- 12:16Unfortunately, he died.
- 12:18But I think that what he was saying was Porsche needs to step back and,
- 12:22you know, care about their older cars.
- 12:24This guy, Schultz, I forgot his first name.
- 12:28He died.
- 12:28He was the president of Porsche.
- 12:30I met him at Monterey and he asked me what I was racing.
- 12:34And I said, I'm racing a 356 Sebring Coupe.
- 12:37Oh, he said, Oh, he said, that's nice.
- 12:40But you know, we're in the business of selling new cars.
- 12:43For a second, he kind of threw me and I looked at him and I said,
- 12:48you know, if it weren't for me, you wouldn't be president of Porsche.
- 12:52And he didn't say anything.
- 12:53I just said, you just remember where your roots are, buddy.
- 12:56You know, I'm racing this car and people are loving it.
- 12:59I'm racing a three 56 and they're loving it.
- 13:02So I think Porsche has come around that mentality.
- 13:04You have to own a new car.
- 13:05No, they're restoring, you know, older cars in it for big bucks too.
- 13:09So they've got restoration centers all over the country, all over the universe.
- 13:14They got seven of them now.
- 13:16Nice.
- 13:17Anyway, I'll let you know when the book comes out.
- 13:19We've got, it's all written except for the final chapter.
- 13:22We've got some administrative problems with France.
- 13:24They've got a, they issued two registrations because
- 13:27somebody dummied up a fake car.
- 13:30And they were stupid enough to, to, uh, send out a certificate on it.
- 13:34Uh, I wanted to mention, I don't know if you went back and listened
- 13:37to any of our other episodes, but I had John Warner the fourth on.
- 13:40And I don't know if you've looked into his book series Little Anton, which
- 13:44deals with the history of the slight, we'll call it revisionist history of Dr.
- 13:49Portia, Dr.
- 13:50Portia senior and all this and World War II and all this kind of thing.
- 13:53You reminded me because we started talking about Paul Newman and he tells
- 13:57the story from the other side from the summit point side in the late
- 14:00seventies and early eighties and you know how he was dating one of Newman's
- 14:03daughters and all this kind of thing.
- 14:05And he was a fantastic guest.
- 14:08But I was going to tell you if you haven't read little Anton, but it's a series.
- 14:11Now there's two books or it's a three, three part because I have the original,
- 14:16he calls them the brick and stick.
- 14:17So there's little Anton, which is a three, Part volume.
- 14:20And then he just released right around Christmastime, Lion, Tiger, Bear,
- 14:24which is the fourth book in the series.
- 14:26I think it's the final book in the series, depending on when you talk to him.
- 14:29But the first book, especially the back history, the way he adds color
- 14:35and builds the universe around Dr.
- 14:38Portia and whatever it's It's awesome.
- 14:39Maybe some of the other stuff, take it or leave it if you like it.
- 14:42But when you hone in on that part of the book, he does a fantastic job,
- 14:46but we talk about it on the episode.
- 14:48So if you haven't gotten a chance, it's definitely a slice in the Porsche
- 14:52universe that you need to check out.
- 14:54Well, it's really unique.
- 14:56You know, first of all, I mentioned that I had a.
- 14:59Porsche at 19.
- 15:00You'd use Porsche.
- 15:01The Volvo dealer sold it.
- 15:03I saw, I was driving by it.
- 15:04I saw it, you know, and they let me have a test drive and we're driving down this
- 15:08windy area, Park Heights Avenue extended.
- 15:11You know, I learned how to drive a Volkswagen with four gears.
- 15:15So I knew, you know, the pattern, but I, but I was a little nervous.
- 15:19And he says, keep your revs up.
- 15:21And so my revs must've been around 2000.
- 15:24He meant downshift, you know, from fourth to third.
- 15:27Well, I was concentrating.
- 15:30I grabbed his knee instead, which was easy to do in a Porsche.
- 15:35Right.
- 15:36Right.
- 15:36You know where the gear shift was and he laughed and you know, I was embarrassed.
- 15:41I wasn't embarrassed about, because I didn't think about the sexual
- 15:44condensation of it, I was just embarrassed that it happened.
- 15:47Anyway, that's one story I like to tell, but he also said,
- 15:50you're mispronouncing the car.
- 15:52And I said, what do you mean?
- 15:53He says, it's a Porsche.
- 15:55It's a Porsche.
- 15:56It's a family name.
- 15:57And I never forgot that because half the people in this world
- 16:00pronounce it with one syllable.
- 16:02Okay.
- 16:03When I told my father I wanted to buy the car, he says, you know, it's a German car.
- 16:07Now, I'm Jewish, so, you know, his generation and the generation before, they
- 16:12were still thinking about World War II.
- 16:14Oh, yeah.
- 16:15So, I said, no, dad, they're Austrians.
- 16:20They're Austrians.
- 16:21They just happened to be making a car in Germany.
- 16:23And he said, well, yeah, but he said, didn't he make tanks for Hitler?
- 16:28I said, He was told to make tanks.
- 16:29I said, but I said, Dr.
- 16:31Portia was, you know, in jail.
- 16:32The French incarcerated him for years.
- 16:36So, you know, so that's funny.
- 16:39And I brought that up on the episode.
- 16:41So, so John does a really good job of explaining all this.
- 16:44And he's actually a noted Portia historian, just like you are, you know,
- 16:48obviously from that side of the house.
- 16:49And, you know, he talks about all the people he interviewed and how he built
- 16:52the book and all this kind of thing.
- 16:54And I asked him about that.
- 16:55And if we talked about Porsche tractors, all this, you know, who designed what
- 16:58and all this kind of thing, because Dr.
- 17:00Porsche designed the Beetle very technically designed the later three
- 17:0456, the ones you ran, the Gaman car was by Porsche senior and Bootsy
- 17:09actually designed the nine 11, right?
- 17:10So everybody gets it like one off when you, when you talk to
- 17:13him about it and he clarifies all that and it's, and it's fine.
- 17:16And he goes, so this prison thing, he goes, you want to know why this went down?
- 17:20He explains it and he's like, it's like when they caught Capone for tax evasion,
- 17:24not because of bootlegging and all that other stuff, you know, the racketeering
- 17:28and everything he was involved in, he goes, it went down because of a
- 17:32bad deal between, it's like Peugeot.
- 17:36And something where he designed something and then promises were
- 17:39made and it wasn't delivered because then the Germans occupied Vichy,
- 17:43France and all this kind of thing.
- 17:44And then later he goes, it was a vengeance ploy and they put Dr.
- 17:47Portia in jail.
- 17:48Right?
- 17:48So he lays it all out and I'm just sitting back and I'm just like,
- 17:51all right, but just like you, you have to dispel the myths, right?
- 17:55You have to kind of set the record straight.
- 17:57And I'm just like, Hey, all right.
- 17:58There were a lot of politics.
- 17:59And so.
- 18:00Max Hoffman, you know, tells the story.
- 18:02He introduced Porsche to Studebaker.
- 18:05They wanted a sports car and they made two prototypes for Studebaker.
- 18:09The first one was terrible and it wasn't going to work.
- 18:13What did Porsche get out of it?
- 18:14They got over a million dollars, you know, for a future project
- 18:18and that's what they needed.
- 18:19They didn't have any money.
- 18:20So Studebaker saved their ass and then Studebaker got bought out by
- 18:24Packard and the Porsche idea was gone.
- 18:27It's all politics.
- 18:28And you're a hundred percent right.
- 18:29We interviewed, uh, Sal Finelli.
- 18:31I don't know if you ever met him.
- 18:32He, uh, he's the owner operator of Porsche diesel USA.
- 18:35He bought it outright.
- 18:37He owns the, what is it?
- 18:38The Porsche diesel corporation that was based in Pennsylvania, all that stuff.
- 18:41He's based out of Virginia.
- 18:42Anyway, super nice guy.
- 18:44We did a whole episode on the Porsche tractors, and it was awesome.
- 18:47Like he goes into all these details, all this stuff, but the same
- 18:50thing, he tells the same story.
- 18:51He goes, you don't realize Porsche was desperate for money and they
- 18:55would do anything because I asked him, I said, you know, Enzo was
- 18:58building tractors, Lamborghini was building tractors, why Porsche?
- 19:03And he goes, they were on the verge of bankruptcy every,
- 19:05you know, every other minute.
- 19:07So anything they could put their hands on engineering wise,
- 19:09because Porsche had notoriety.
- 19:11He was considered a genius.
- 19:13They were like, Here, go do this, we'll pay you.
- 19:15So, they weren't bashful to sign up and say, well, okay,
- 19:19we'll design a tractor for you.
- 19:21Well, not only that, but they still had an agrarian society.
- 19:24Exactly, exactly.
- 19:25Because the World War II flattened them, you know, they didn't
- 19:28have any industry going on.
- 19:29Yeah, that's really interesting.
- 19:30That's another thing.
- 19:31I should have bought a tractor too.
- 19:34So what's really funny is we do our monthly news episode and
- 19:37this thing called, we have this thing called lost and found.
- 19:39It's this little section and it's always about, you know, maybe like cars that are
- 19:42still on a dealer lot that you can buy new today and all these kinds of things.
- 19:46And Sal goes, we had him on and we were joking and he goes, I got to
- 19:49tell you guys, I have the record.
- 19:51Right now he goes, I have a Porsche tractor that has yet to be unsold.
- 19:56It's like a 1951 and it's at his shop and he goes, I got all the paperwork and
- 20:01blah, blah, blah, it's all certified.
- 20:03But this tractor has never been sold.
- 20:04It is brand new.
- 20:05I'm like, damn.
- 20:08Michael's the hobby shop.
- 20:10Michael's, are you familiar with that?
- 20:12I saw they have a Porsche junior tractor model for sale.
- 20:16Oh, that's awesome.
- 20:17Yeah, I didn't know that they and it's, you know, it's pretty good
- 20:20scale, probably 1 24th scale.
- 20:22Oh, nice.
- 20:22I'll have to go check that out.
- 20:23We have a Michael's nearby that let's say that they're available.
- 20:26It's like 2020 bucks, 25 bucks.
- 20:28Really?
- 20:29I looked at it.
- 20:30I didn't buy it, but I looked at it.
- 20:31I said, that's really neat.
- 20:34I didn't wonder, you know what you say to that.
- 20:36Who in the hell is going to be building a tractor?
- 20:38But somebody thought that was a good idea.
- 20:41And to your point about like, you know, the transmission being under
- 20:44somebody's porch in the middle of California, the same thing.
- 20:47I got photos of it, but there's like these parts that are just sitting out there.
- 20:52Then did you ever meet Heinz Bada?
- 20:56He was a Bruce Jennings mechanic.
- 20:58He lived in Boston.
- 20:58He was mechanic.
- 21:00Okay.
- 21:00Anyway, Heinz had a.
- 21:02It was renting some property near York, Pennsylvania.
- 21:05The park is not that far from York.
- 21:07Anyway, he wasn't paying attention.
- 21:10It had all the Carrera parts in there.
- 21:12Engine parts.
- 21:14The roof had a leak.
- 21:15Oh, no.
- 21:16Everything, everything turned to rust.
- 21:18Oh, no.
- 21:19He didn't take care of it at all.
- 21:21Tens of thousands of dollars worth of parts had to be thrown out.
- 21:24Ab Tiedemann, you know, took care of his estate after he died.
- 21:27And they went up there and all this, nothing but junk, just all rusted out.
- 21:32Yeah.
- 21:32Yeah, there's a lot of stuff out there.
- 21:36Look, I always tell whoever's riding shotgun, you know, somebody, as we go
- 21:40by some rural areas, when someone opens a garage door, you take a look and see
- 21:44what's in there, you know, as we drive by.
- 21:46There's going to be a Porsche.
- 21:47There's going to be something hiding away.
- 21:49Yeah, exactly.
- 21:50Plenty of cars out there.
- 21:51Believe me.
- 21:54Well, on that note, Lee, uh, I'll let you get back to it again.
- 21:58Thank you for coming on.
- 22:00Yeah, definitely.
- 22:01All right.
- 22:01Listen, it's good.
- 22:02Good seeing you.
- 22:03Stay well.
- 22:04Okay, take care of, take care of all those Porsches.
- 22:07Will do, and hopefully we'll see you at one of these events this year, so.
- 22:11Yeah, listen, I really enjoyed it.
- 22:13It was fun.
- 22:13So we'll, we'll call that a wrap.
