- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes seven fifty six through seven fifty
- 0:14Speaker 1: seven start to counterattack great moves by the Twirly Hat crew,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and a threat descends the Beast pirates Jack in these
- 0:30Speaker 1: episodes Towirly Hat Pirates. Hmmm, really okay, why not? I
- 0:41Speaker 1: don't hate it. Also, Jack turning out to be a
- 0:46Speaker 1: mammoth pretty fun. Wasn't expecting it? Welcome to spoil Me.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you
- 1:15Speaker 1: very very much to Florian for commissioning this episode. Florian
- 1:21Speaker 1: is here in the chat, as is Saraphem, and Saraphim
- 1:24Speaker 1: had left a comment before I started, so thought, how
- 1:28Speaker 1: does human being counted as minks not make sense? The
- 1:32Speaker 1: only similarity is they are all mammals, and a human
- 1:36Speaker 1: would be more closely related versus related to an ape
- 1:42Speaker 1: mink like uh will be more closely related versus related
- 1:48Speaker 1: to an ape mink like Babe. Then Kara and Wanda
- 1:52Speaker 1: would be to each other. Sorry, Saraphim, I'm having a
- 1:55Speaker 1: little trouble following the this. Do you mean you mean
- 2:01Speaker 1: the similarity between all the minks as them all being
- 2:09Speaker 1: animals with humanoid qualities, so them all having fur and whatnot,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and a human would be more closely really, oh, the
- 2:20Speaker 1: v was a type of would be more closely related. Uh.
- 2:25Speaker 1: A human would be more closely related to an ape
- 2:28Speaker 1: mink like bebe. Then Kara and Wanda would be to
- 2:33Speaker 1: each other. Uh. I honestly don't know if that's true.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Like to me, the similarity is they are all mammals
- 2:44Speaker 1: that are not sentient or walk on two legs, and
- 2:48Speaker 1: they all are and that is a very different thing
- 2:53Speaker 1: to all human beings who do that naturally always. So
- 2:59Speaker 1: it's just me like, that's that's it. I'm not talking about, like,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you know, the species of animal or anything like that.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm not even trying to get into that because then
- 3:08Speaker 1: you really start to this just falls apart. I am
- 3:11Speaker 1: just saying that the way that they're counting, like, oh, yeah, well,
- 3:16Speaker 1: we just think of you guys as minks without hair.
- 3:19Speaker 1: They're not. The minks are not. It doesn't matter. It
- 3:25Speaker 1: really doesn't matter. But I think it doesn't even really
- 3:30Speaker 1: need explaining why I find that weird, So I'm just
- 3:33Speaker 1: gonna leave it. So let's start with the explanation that
- 3:40Speaker 1: we find out in seven fifty six as to what
- 3:45Speaker 1: the corpse of your crew or your crew's corpse was,
- 3:51Speaker 1: which it turns out was Brooke. Now in the show
- 3:55Speaker 1: notes for a I think the previous episode, I said
- 4:01Speaker 1: that Soanji had been taken along with Momo and Brook,
- 4:07Speaker 1: and I wrote that because we don't see them in
- 4:11Speaker 1: that episode. We're having a big kind of reunion moment,
- 4:15Speaker 1: So if Momo and Brooke had been there, I would
- 4:18Speaker 1: have thought they'd have shown up here too. Eventually we
- 4:21Speaker 1: find out why not, But it turns out Sanji is
- 4:25Speaker 1: the only one that's been taken. Momo has some sort
- 4:31Speaker 1: of issue with the minx and he keeps himself like
- 4:35Speaker 1: closed off and locked up, and Brooke is suffering repeat
- 4:42Speaker 1: harassment from these animals. So the whole uh, the whole thing.
- 4:50Speaker 1: There's so many like bits and bobs to talk about here.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I just want to mention, like these animals going after
- 4:58Speaker 1: Brooke and wanting to chew on him. I it was
- 5:03Speaker 1: like I simultaneously found this very funny but also really distressing.
- 5:08Speaker 1: This is the sort of thing that I think as
- 5:09Speaker 1: a kid, I'd have been like disturbed by all of
- 5:12Speaker 1: his friends turning to watch him get jumped on by
- 5:16Speaker 1: like five different animals and then just turning and walking
- 5:20Speaker 1: away like it's no big deal. I really like, I
- 5:24Speaker 1: feel like as a kid, this would have bothered me
- 5:27Speaker 1: a little bit. And all I can think is like,
- 5:31Speaker 1: are I can't remember how durable Brook is? Will his
- 5:35Speaker 1: bone snap? Is this something that we need to worry about.
- 5:38Speaker 1: It's like the kind of affection that they feel for
- 5:41Speaker 1: human beings where they want to rub against them, is magnified.
- 5:47Speaker 1: And you add in a weird like oral fixation here,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and Brooke has just got the worst of all worlds,
- 5:54Speaker 1: so his clothes are all raggedy and shit when he
- 5:57Speaker 1: turns up because they've just been like destroying this poor guy. Momo.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It's like there's definitely some weird beef between the minx
- 6:11Speaker 1: and the Samurai. Unclear whether or not this is solely
- 6:16Speaker 1: the result of the Beast Pirates showing up looking for
- 6:19Speaker 1: a samurai slash ninja, or if this is something that
- 6:24Speaker 1: existed previously, but Momo seems to know something, and so
- 6:30Speaker 1: I don't know if it's like he only has shown
- 6:35Speaker 1: them his dragon self and do they not know that
- 6:41Speaker 1: he is himself a samurai? If they did, would that
- 6:44Speaker 1: be an issue? He seems to just be aware of
- 6:47Speaker 1: something more than everybody else is, And I'm very curious
- 6:55Speaker 1: because you know, Brooks, he warns Loofy about using the
- 7:01Speaker 1: word samurai and using another word I can't remember. There
- 7:04Speaker 1: were two words that he was warned about, and later
- 7:07Speaker 1: on Lufy mentions the samurais calling them by name and
- 7:13Speaker 1: saying the word samurai, and how it's too bad that
- 7:16Speaker 1: they aren't here, which the episode ends on Wanda turning
- 7:21Speaker 1: and looking at him aghast and all of the people
- 7:24Speaker 1: who have been hanging out with the Minx already kind
- 7:28Speaker 1: of clapping a hand to their mouths like, oh, I
- 7:30Speaker 1: can't believe he fucking said it, which of course he
- 7:32Speaker 1: said it, because that's just Loofy, Like, of course he did.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Trying to ask Loofy to avoid a particular topic of conversation.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It's like in Seinfeld, where anytime there is something that's
- 7:48Speaker 1: like particularly awkward or weird that you either really want
- 7:53Speaker 1: brought up badly or you want to avoid talking about
- 7:57Speaker 1: at all. As soon as walks in the room, you
- 8:01Speaker 1: know that subject is getting brought up. Kramer has like
- 8:06Speaker 1: the vibe of Loofy in some ways where he has
- 8:10Speaker 1: no real ability to like read the room, no desire to.
- 8:16Speaker 1: He is like, you know, a five or six year
- 8:21Speaker 1: old who just blurts shit out without really considering anything
- 8:26Speaker 1: beyond the fact that they felt like they needed to
- 8:28Speaker 1: say the thing. So I am really wondering, like what
- 8:33Speaker 1: this is going to turn out to be? That, what
- 8:35Speaker 1: the deal is with the samurai? Why these pirates are
- 8:39Speaker 1: looking for one? Like what all of this is? Saraphim
- 8:44Speaker 1: says Wanda was just too focused on how much she
- 8:47Speaker 1: wanted to jump Brooks bones. I hate you, and then
- 8:50Speaker 1: reminds me if they if brooks bones break, he just
- 8:54Speaker 1: needs some milk to fix them. I forgot about the
- 8:56Speaker 1: milk thing. That's right, man, the dairy lobby really did
- 8:59Speaker 1: a number on us with milk and bones. Huh. They
- 9:01Speaker 1: really got in there. So the one like plot point
- 9:10Speaker 1: that I'm going to talk about just and get it
- 9:12Speaker 1: out of the way is uh Conjureau and Kinemon, who
- 9:18Speaker 1: are still trying to get up the sides of the elephant.
- 9:22Speaker 1: With this drawing of a cat, It's so painful to
- 9:26Speaker 1: watch this cat. Eventually like starts to look real weird
- 9:29Speaker 1: because he's pushing himself too much, and they all scream
- 9:33Speaker 1: and are terrified of the cat, but then they're like,
- 9:35Speaker 1: oh no, it's fine, you could probably keep going, right,
- 9:37Speaker 1: And I was like, I hate this so much. I
- 9:42Speaker 1: think this, like is my least favorite recurring bit in
- 9:47Speaker 1: the show period, and I am including the those bleed
- 9:53Speaker 1: geysers from Sanjy, Like, if we're doing a recurring bit
- 10:00Speaker 1: this one, I want it to die. I don't think
- 10:03Speaker 1: it's funny. I don't think it's interesting to watch. I
- 10:07Speaker 1: don't think it's like particularly been that helpful. I mean,
- 10:16Speaker 1: it's difficult for me because I feel like the way
- 10:19Speaker 1: that our people have powers, they could probably have just
- 10:22Speaker 1: gotten up the side of this huge elephant a million
- 10:26Speaker 1: other ways. So we're just pretending that they needed to
- 10:29Speaker 1: get up on the back of this dragon because we
- 10:34Speaker 1: need everybody together and we need it to be this
- 10:36Speaker 1: whole thing. I can think of several other ways that
- 10:41Speaker 1: this could have been done easily with the powers that
- 10:44Speaker 1: they all have, But it's just a combo of like
- 10:50Speaker 1: this this creature looking like it's suffering so acutely for
- 10:55Speaker 1: so long and being pushed and pushed. I just hate it.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I fucking despise it, and It would be one thing
- 11:07Speaker 1: if these things were like if condre seemed at all
- 11:10Speaker 1: conscious of the fact that these creatures are suffering, But
- 11:13Speaker 1: everybody around him seems to realize that they're suffering except
- 11:16Speaker 1: for him, and he's just like completely oblivious. So I'm like,
- 11:20Speaker 1: this is the wrong person to get this power. Anybody
- 11:24Speaker 1: else who was prepared to be a little bit more
- 11:27Speaker 1: responsible about it and learn how to draw better so
- 11:29Speaker 1: that they don't turn out like this, then maybe I
- 11:33Speaker 1: could adult. But this particular person is incompatible with this
- 11:37Speaker 1: particular power. I disapprove. And eventually the sun is going down,
- 11:45Speaker 1: the cat has you know, like worn itself out, and
- 11:48Speaker 1: it becomes clear that they can't continue on, so they
- 11:52Speaker 1: decide to drop back down to the sunny and try
- 11:54Speaker 1: again the next day. And I was sort of wondering
- 11:57Speaker 1: about how this fucking plotline was even necessary, and I
- 12:03Speaker 1: was just thinking, all right, well, everybody here isn't really
- 12:06Speaker 1: part of the straw Hats, So is it just that
- 12:08Speaker 1: we just wanted a straw Hats story, but we wanted
- 12:11Speaker 1: these guys to be around still. And I couldn't really
- 12:17Speaker 1: understand that because we've had no problems before with people
- 12:20Speaker 1: that we don't really give much of a shit about
- 12:23Speaker 1: being left behind, and then we returned to them after
- 12:25Speaker 1: many episodes, so I was like, the way this is
- 12:28Speaker 1: written and the way they keep reappearing, they're clearly meant
- 12:31Speaker 1: to be on our mind. We're being reminded constantly that
- 12:34Speaker 1: these guys are still here. That's got to have some
- 12:38Speaker 1: reason behind it, and what we like. What conclusion I
- 12:44Speaker 1: have come to is that these dudes are part of
- 12:49Speaker 1: whatever this weird beef is with the Minx, and if
- 12:53Speaker 1: they had been with the straw Hats once they went
- 12:56Speaker 1: into the forest and encountered the Minx, it would have
- 13:02Speaker 1: thrown a massive wrench in their plans somehow. So I'm
- 13:09Speaker 1: curious to see where this goes. I really don't want
- 13:14Speaker 1: to revisit them, just to watch them trying to get
- 13:16Speaker 1: up the side of this elephant over and over, and
- 13:18Speaker 1: I have a feeling that's what we're gonna get, and
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm like, not excited about it because it's gonna be
- 13:22Speaker 1: more of these fucking animals. I also am curious who
- 13:28Speaker 1: this ninja is that both Conjuro and the Beast Pirates
- 13:34Speaker 1: would be looking for them. I don't think we have
- 13:39Speaker 1: seen anybody that would fit the description, but I don't
- 13:43Speaker 1: know for sure, And yeah, it's uh, I'm curious because
- 13:50Speaker 1: like the addition of the of samurai and ninjas, it's
- 14:01Speaker 1: what was the audience reaction to these being included in
- 14:07Speaker 1: the story, because it sort of feels weird to me
- 14:11Speaker 1: at times that they are treated so distinctly when people
- 14:16Speaker 1: talk about them, when we have got like people with
- 14:20Speaker 1: literal superpowers. It feels like the kind of thing where
- 14:26Speaker 1: they are reacting to tales of samurai or ninja the
- 14:31Speaker 1: way that we would in the real world, and in
- 14:35Speaker 1: context of the one piece world, it doesn't really make
- 14:37Speaker 1: a lot of sense to me how they're all so
- 14:40Speaker 1: excited about it. But maybe that's just supposed to be
- 14:43Speaker 1: part of the joke, is that like even the people
- 14:46Speaker 1: who have superpowers thinking ninjas and samurai are dope, which
- 14:51Speaker 1: I guess could work. Saraphim says, not seeing them just
- 14:56Speaker 1: means they're really good Ninja, It's possible. Florian says, Japan
- 15:00Speaker 1: loved it. They love Samuraian Ninja's I guess that makes sense.
- 15:04Speaker 1: You know, It's sort of like, how would the US
- 15:07Speaker 1: react if we decided to put like a cowboy or
- 15:10Speaker 1: a mobster. I guess we have a mobster. We haven't
- 15:14Speaker 1: really had a cowboy, really, have we. That'd be interesting
- 15:19Speaker 1: to see. One of my favorite things that like, you know,
- 15:24Speaker 1: if you listen to other shows of mine, you are
- 15:26Speaker 1: aware how many British murder mystery shows I watch, and
- 15:32Speaker 1: there are frequently when you've got like the serialized mystery
- 15:37Speaker 1: of the week type episodes, they will trot in an
- 15:41Speaker 1: English actor who is supposed to be a Texan. All
- 15:45Speaker 1: the time, it's a Texan. It's never just an American,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and it's rarely like a New Yorker or somebody from Brooklyn,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you know, it's almost always a Texan who wears cowboy hats,
- 15:59Speaker 1: has a very strong accent, and is rich from oil money.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Is like the the you know, stereotype that they go with.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And it's always very funny to me because it straddles
- 16:15Speaker 1: that weird line where if the if the actor is
- 16:18Speaker 1: good enough at doing a Texan accent, I shouldn't even
- 16:23Speaker 1: say Texan a Southern accent because, like what happens so
- 16:28Speaker 1: much of the time, people outside of a country, they
- 16:30Speaker 1: do not distinguish between regional accents as much. You know,
- 16:36Speaker 1: the one exception I'll say is that, like Americans do
- 16:39Speaker 1: tend to know the difference between like a Manchester accent
- 16:43Speaker 1: and like a Liverpool accent something very extreme, you know,
- 16:47Speaker 1: or an Oxford accent, we can tend to know the
- 16:51Speaker 1: difference between those, even if we couldn't put a name
- 16:54Speaker 1: to them. But usually when it comes to Southern accents,
- 16:57Speaker 1: other countries just have this one sort of standard twang
- 17:00Speaker 1: that they go for, which is fine, it doesn't bother me.
- 17:03Speaker 1: But I'm also not a native Southern person, so but
- 17:08Speaker 1: it would be kind of interesting to see how that
- 17:10Speaker 1: would play out in this show if we did do that.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Seraphim says, also keep in mind the ones most excited
- 17:19Speaker 1: are loofy Oosup and Chopper, the most teenage boy mentality
- 17:24Speaker 1: of the crew in terms of, oh, that's cool, I
- 17:27Speaker 1: guess that's true. I could have sworn that Robin was
- 17:31Speaker 1: really excited. But Robin also has a tendency to like
- 17:35Speaker 1: get very into stuff that you wouldn't expect because she's
- 17:39Speaker 1: just a kind of curious person, So that might still
- 17:43Speaker 1: hold anyway. Okay, so we when we open this episode,
- 17:49Speaker 1: after we have them like falling down the side of
- 17:51Speaker 1: the elephant, we go to Zoro, who is drinking this
- 17:56Speaker 1: liquor that is made from all of the different fruits
- 17:59Speaker 1: that they can find in the forest and is really
- 18:02Speaker 1: really enjoying it. The animals are rubbing against him and
- 18:07Speaker 1: he does not like it. Later on we get to
- 18:11Speaker 1: see Frankie fully embracing the cuddles and he is one
- 18:17Speaker 1: into it. Loofy has been polishing off meat and it's
- 18:23Speaker 1: just like, can't you just be nice for a second.
- 18:26Speaker 1: They've been giving us all of this food and everything,
- 18:29Speaker 1: and it does not move Zoro in the slightest. So
- 18:37Speaker 1: let's say I'm trying to find the uh because there's
- 18:40Speaker 1: a moment where Minkship expresses our tribe's great fondness fondness
- 18:46Speaker 1: towards Utia, so like friendship, but it's minkship and one
- 18:53Speaker 1: of them is like laying on Robin's lap and rubbing
- 18:55Speaker 1: his head back and forth. And I was just laughing
- 18:59Speaker 1: because like Choppers watching this and doesn't seem to feel
- 19:02Speaker 1: it's just interesting, with Loofy being like, oh, it's like
- 19:04Speaker 1: an island full of choppers. I thought that Chopper might
- 19:10Speaker 1: actually like say something about how nice it was to
- 19:13Speaker 1: not be the only animal around, or you know, but
- 19:16Speaker 1: Chopper doesn't really seem to feel that he is a
- 19:20Speaker 1: mink in any way. It's like that camaraderie thing that
- 19:23Speaker 1: I was thinking might happen isn't there. And it's not.
- 19:27Speaker 1: They're not the same thing. He isn't the result of
- 19:29Speaker 1: a devil fruit, you know. So I get that he
- 19:34Speaker 1: wouldn't see it the same way. But I thought maybe
- 19:37Speaker 1: that even though you know that you're not really like
- 19:39Speaker 1: the product of being the same exact type of creature,
- 19:44Speaker 1: that the at least the experience of being looking like
- 19:48Speaker 1: an animal but functioning like a human being would bond him.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And maybe we're just we haven't seen that yet, but
- 19:54Speaker 1: I don't know. So this is when Brooke pops in
- 20:02Speaker 1: and is very excited to see them, and then we
- 20:04Speaker 1: get approached by all of these animals that want to
- 20:07Speaker 1: eat him, and he huddles up with everybody and says,
- 20:14Speaker 1: I have a bit of a sensitive request, And this
- 20:20Speaker 1: is when he tells them, while we're here, please do
- 20:22Speaker 1: not mention the land of Wano or Samurai either. Better
- 20:28Speaker 1: not risk it. It might cause a fence to the
- 20:32Speaker 1: minx or pain. More accurately, it might even make them
- 20:37Speaker 1: hate you and Frankie says, okay, but what's the deal?
- 20:43Speaker 1: And Lufy says what's wrong with Samurai? And Brooke says
- 20:47Speaker 1: there's something about this country you don't know, and at
- 20:51Speaker 1: this moment is when he gets attacked, so he does
- 20:53Speaker 1: not get a chance to fill them in on all
- 20:54Speaker 1: of this. So let's see they're trying to sort of
- 21:02Speaker 1: figure out what could have happened, and finally Robin says
- 21:05Speaker 1: to Nami, Okay, you've got to tell us the full
- 21:09Speaker 1: story of everything that happened, because you all left Dress Rosa.
- 21:13Speaker 1: It's been eleven days. We don't know what the fuck
- 21:15Speaker 1: is going on, and Namy's like, Okay, I'm gonna tell you.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It was sort of an interesting way that they did this,
- 21:22Speaker 1: because normally they'll just have a flashback and we get
- 21:26Speaker 1: to see the things. It's uh. What they did here
- 21:31Speaker 1: was we get a flashback, but we also get the
- 21:37Speaker 1: what do you call it? Voiceover of Nami after a
- 21:43Speaker 1: thing happens, saying something like and that's not all you know.
- 21:46Speaker 1: It's very much being played like she is telling them
- 21:52Speaker 1: the story, but only sometimes. And I kind of wished
- 21:56Speaker 1: that they had just let her have a voice so
- 22:00Speaker 1: over for the whole thing. But anyway, so she says,
- 22:04Speaker 1: we were barely off the coast of dress Rosa and
- 22:06Speaker 1: the Big Mom pirates appeared on a huge singing ship,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and we get to see that indeed the uh the
- 22:16Speaker 1: figurehead of their ship. It's singing its own name. I
- 22:23Speaker 1: think it's just singing Shippy over and over again. I
- 22:27Speaker 1: don't really know what the deal is here, like whether
- 22:32Speaker 1: or not it was something else and was enchanted to
- 22:35Speaker 1: look like a ship, or if the ship itself was
- 22:38Speaker 1: enchanted to be alive. It doesn't feel great either way.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I just there are ways in which this could be
- 22:48Speaker 1: done that I wouldn't necessarily be horrified by, but to
- 22:52Speaker 1: be honest, they're few and far between, and I feel
- 22:56Speaker 1: like I don't want to know. I feel like i'd
- 22:59Speaker 1: kind of rather not know. Probably, So this is when
- 23:07Speaker 1: we get a refresh of these dudes that they fight.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I'm trying to get their names again, because they come
- 23:14Speaker 1: up as their little UH title cards when they first appear.
- 23:19Speaker 1: There's the dude who looks like a lion and I
- 23:22Speaker 1: guess maybe is a mink Pickam's Pickam's, Pecom's. And then
- 23:28Speaker 1: there's the dude who's inside of an eggshell with a
- 23:30Speaker 1: teacup on his head. Baron Tomago and or Tamago. Ah,
- 23:38Speaker 1: Baron Tamago with his teacup head and his wil Luigi
- 23:46Speaker 1: mustache and his French accent and his cane. This man
- 23:51Speaker 1: is very puzzling to me. Uh it's a weird uh. I.
- 24:01Speaker 1: You know, guys, you would really think that after all
- 24:04Speaker 1: this time, I would have started to understand and appreciate
- 24:11Speaker 1: that the theming of what people are dressed like doesn't
- 24:17Speaker 1: necessarily go together in this show, that this is not
- 24:22Speaker 1: necessarily something that WOULDA concerns himself with in any way
- 24:25Speaker 1: at all. But I can't help but try to make
- 24:30Speaker 1: sense of it anyway and find a pattern. And it's
- 24:36Speaker 1: just really got me sort of thinking about like years
- 24:41Speaker 1: ago with there was a co host that is no
- 24:45Speaker 1: longer with Unspoiled for a variety of reasons. I covered
- 24:52Speaker 1: Twin Peaks, and it was the sort of thing where
- 24:57Speaker 1: like the first season I was super into, and then
- 24:59Speaker 1: this second season it started to make even less sense
- 25:04Speaker 1: than the first. And then they had the like the
- 25:10Speaker 1: revival of it that aired probably like at this point
- 25:15Speaker 1: five or six years ago, and I just have had
- 25:21Speaker 1: to come to the realization, the acceptance of the fact
- 25:25Speaker 1: that David Lynch does not speak to me, or at
- 25:30Speaker 1: least what I have watched has not been for me.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Maybe some of his other stuff, if I watched it,
- 25:38Speaker 1: I would be like, Okay, this works disconnected. But what
- 25:42Speaker 1: I have seen, I am just a person who wants
- 25:45Speaker 1: to make sense out of things. And maybe if I
- 25:50Speaker 1: were really like stoned and I watched some of the stuff,
- 25:54Speaker 1: I would be like, oh, you know what. I was
- 25:55Speaker 1: able to let go of that and let it just
- 25:57Speaker 1: be vibes. But when I'm covering something for this podcast,
- 26:02Speaker 1: that is particularly difficult to do because the point is
- 26:05Speaker 1: for me to be able to articulate how I'm feeling
- 26:08Speaker 1: about something, and it's not always possible to do so.
- 26:15Speaker 1: All of this to say our little french man Tamago
- 26:24Speaker 1: Seraphim is saying Tamago is Japanese for egg. I'm wondering
- 26:29Speaker 1: if this is like a kind of a I'm trying
- 26:34Speaker 1: to think, like why he'd be French the breakfast thing
- 26:39Speaker 1: a cup of tea and an egg? Is there a toast?
- 26:42Speaker 1: Am I reaching? Perhaps I'm trying to just let it
- 26:48Speaker 1: sort of wash over me and not get fixated on
- 26:52Speaker 1: how they go together, and it's working fairly well. I
- 26:58Speaker 1: don't really know why, but I do kind of feel
- 27:02Speaker 1: like the teacup and saucer and this egg do go together.
- 27:09Speaker 1: And I don't know why. I'm genuinely like, why does
- 27:13Speaker 1: this not feel like it's that weird? Actually? And it
- 27:18Speaker 1: might be that it might be that I'm just like, oh, yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 1: breakfast things association, you know what I mean. But anyway,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I find him very very compelling in a way that
- 27:30Speaker 1: doesn't make sense. It feels like I am assigning a
- 27:34Speaker 1: whole other thing to this guy due to the fact
- 27:37Speaker 1: that I am a foodie. I love tea parties, I
- 27:41Speaker 1: love breakfast food, and him being French and there's just
- 27:45Speaker 1: an automatic association with like, if you are French, then
- 27:48Speaker 1: you know food, which is not necessarily even true, but
- 27:51Speaker 1: you know how that stereotype goes. So I find this
- 27:56Speaker 1: whole character to be very very distracting because I want
- 28:04Speaker 1: him to be a lot more important to things than
- 28:06Speaker 1: I think he's going to be, and maybe he will be,
- 28:10Speaker 1: maybe I never I wish, but from where I'm sitting
- 28:12Speaker 1: right now, it just doesn't even look like that. And
- 28:14Speaker 1: I don't know why. Every time he pops up, I'm like, ooh,
- 28:17Speaker 1: this guy, you know. So this is when Nami says,
- 28:23Speaker 1: but they had company, and we get the uh the
- 28:28Speaker 1: swagger forward and she says, a fellow member of the
- 28:31Speaker 1: Worst Generation Capone, gang Bedja or Beg, I can't remember.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I'm just gonna call him Copone. His like the name
- 28:43Speaker 1: altogether is a lot, you know. I think Copone is fine.
- 28:47Speaker 1: It's very funny because I understand you guys have explained
- 28:50Speaker 1: to me what the deal is with the Worst Generation,
- 28:54Speaker 1: so I know that it is not really about age.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I get it, but it is extremely funny to see
- 29:02Speaker 1: this guy being categorized as being part of the same
- 29:05Speaker 1: like Worst Generation as Loofy, because it just does not
- 29:07Speaker 1: feel like they should be in anything together. Frank, you
- 29:12Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So, yeah, it turns out that
- 29:18Speaker 1: all of them seemed to be working under Big Mom.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Now they came for Caesar, but it wasn't a rescue.
- 29:26Speaker 1: In fact, he was terrified. And what we get after
- 29:32Speaker 1: this is this kind of bizarre fight sequence where Chopper
- 29:42Speaker 1: turns himself into the Big version of him and he
- 29:49Speaker 1: uses He takes Caesar, he holds him and stretches him
- 29:58Speaker 1: out all some of these cannon balls that are coming
- 30:03Speaker 1: towards them are like they're all coming from the same
- 30:08Speaker 1: direction and landing in the same like three square foot radius,
- 30:12Speaker 1: which doesn't feel likely, but whatever. He catches them with
- 30:18Speaker 1: Caesar's body and uses him like he's a piece of
- 30:23Speaker 1: fabric or something that he's like opening up and then
- 30:25Speaker 1: wrapping it all in. And then he turns and chucks
- 30:30Speaker 1: Caesar in into the air toward the other ship like
- 30:35Speaker 1: he's going to hit them with all of these cannon
- 30:39Speaker 1: balls at once. After he does this, I'm watching this because,
- 30:45Speaker 1: like Caesar understandably, is not appreciating, as he puts it,
- 30:50Speaker 1: being treated like a bag, you know, being just bundled
- 30:54Speaker 1: up and tossed toward his enemies, which is what it
- 30:58Speaker 1: looks like. It looks very much leg we are giving
- 31:02Speaker 1: you to them, handing you right over. Now. I'm thinking
- 31:08Speaker 1: the point of this is going to be all of
- 31:13Speaker 1: those the cannonballs will have gained altitude from being thrown
- 31:18Speaker 1: wrapped up in him in this way, and then once
- 31:22Speaker 1: they've gained altitude, Caesar will somehow like dissipate or let
- 31:27Speaker 1: go of them, and they will all fall onto the
- 31:29Speaker 1: ship and cause damage in return. No, it is not that.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So he's in mid air, Sanji does his like weird
- 31:41Speaker 1: sort of cloud walking thing, and he lights his legs
- 31:45Speaker 1: up as he does, and with his flaming legs, he
- 31:50Speaker 1: kicks Caesar apart. This not only breaks Caesar up and
- 31:58Speaker 1: releases the cannon ball, but also lights the cannonballs themselves
- 32:04Speaker 1: on fire. And so when they hit the other ship,
- 32:09Speaker 1: it takes a whole lot of damage. They clearly were
- 32:13Speaker 1: not expecting anybody to to fuck with them on this level. Now,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I just want to can anybody give me the name
- 32:27Speaker 1: of this ship, in particular that they are on the
- 32:32Speaker 1: Singing Ship, because every glimpse I get of it, you guys,
- 32:37Speaker 1: it's like a cancel in Gretel's Witch's house where it's
- 32:42Speaker 1: made out of candy. It looks like, and you know,
- 32:45Speaker 1: we know the whole thing with Big Mama's addiction to candy.
- 32:51Speaker 1: But there's also like in the back on the slightly
- 32:56Speaker 1: upper deck a what looks like a huge layer cake,
- 33:01Speaker 1: like a wedding cake type of thing, and big candy
- 33:06Speaker 1: canes that are kind of like peeking over the sides.
- 33:11Speaker 1: The reason I'm asking about this is because I have
- 33:16Speaker 1: a sort of mental in my You guys know that,
- 33:20Speaker 1: like I used to do, costuming was what I like
- 33:25Speaker 1: originally went to college for. So I get very preoccupied
- 33:29Speaker 1: with what they're wearing in terms of who I would
- 33:31Speaker 1: want to cause play. But I also like to think
- 33:35Speaker 1: about if I were going to make a little model
- 33:37Speaker 1: or something of particular items from this universe, what I
- 33:43Speaker 1: would make because I'm a creative person and I paint
- 33:46Speaker 1: and I draw, and I make things out of clay
- 33:48Speaker 1: and resin and all this stuff, So it is not
- 33:51Speaker 1: outside the realm with possibility that I might actually do this.
- 33:57Speaker 1: And you all probably remember that Alvida's ship in the
- 34:07Speaker 1: very very first episode ever with the Heart the heart
- 34:13Speaker 1: like themed ship and the Heart I Jolly Roger really
- 34:19Speaker 1: just fucking got me, and I have been saying for
- 34:24Speaker 1: a long time, Alvida fat Alvida, I'll clarify, and her
- 34:32Speaker 1: original ship would be a big temptation. If I were
- 34:36Speaker 1: ever going to do a one piece cosplay, it would
- 34:39Speaker 1: be on the top of my list. Now, I don't
- 34:44Speaker 1: remember how good a look we've gotten at Big Mama
- 34:48Speaker 1: or Big Ma? Is it Big Ma or Big Mama
- 34:52Speaker 1: Flying is saying, big Mom, I think you might be right,
- 34:57Speaker 1: Sarahim says the Queen Mama Shanter. I'm gonna check and
- 35:03Speaker 1: see what we get, Chanter. It's ch which I guess
- 35:08Speaker 1: makes sense if it's a singing ship. I'm looking at
- 35:14Speaker 1: this from far away, and basically this ship is themed.
- 35:20Speaker 1: From the outside, it looks to me like an overflowing
- 35:28Speaker 1: ice cream Sunday. I don't know, my friends, this ship
- 35:34Speaker 1: might this might be edging out al Vida's ship for
- 35:42Speaker 1: my favorite ship. I can not stress enough what a
- 35:49Speaker 1: fucking sucker I am. For a candy theme or like
- 35:54Speaker 1: a pink frosting and sprinkles kind of theme. I love
- 36:00Speaker 1: that imagery if it's like a pink frosted cupcake donuts
- 36:04Speaker 1: as well, although I really prefer cupcakes and cakes like
- 36:10Speaker 1: I was so excited when I heard that we were
- 36:12Speaker 1: going to be getting a cupcake emoji a few years ago.
- 36:15Speaker 1: And then we got it and it's got like vanilla
- 36:17Speaker 1: icing and I just cannot tell you how disappointed I was.
- 36:21Speaker 1: But this there's a bunch of different like illustrations of it.
- 36:28Speaker 1: But oh my god, you guys, I just found there
- 36:31Speaker 1: is a collector's model that you can build. It's got everything,
- 36:38Speaker 1: it's got the cake in the front. Oh my god.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. There is a simplicity
- 36:47Speaker 1: in Alvida's ship that I do really like. I'm gonna
- 36:49Speaker 1: look up Alvida's right now and just compare them, because
- 36:54Speaker 1: I like, this is something that's just on my mind.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Alvida's got that that uh swan's head. I do really
- 37:06Speaker 1: like the design of her ship. Like Big Mom's ship's
- 37:10Speaker 1: got a lot going on. So that's the one thing
- 37:13Speaker 1: I could say is that, like Alvida's is very cute,
- 37:18Speaker 1: see in a way, in a way that's got a
- 37:20Speaker 1: sort of old fashioned quality, while Big Mom's is like
- 37:25Speaker 1: somebody just took everything they could think of and put
- 37:29Speaker 1: it into one ship. It's a very large, sort of
- 37:33Speaker 1: bottom heavy, overdone kind of look. So I think if
- 37:39Speaker 1: I were going to pick, I'd probably go for Alvida's.
- 37:42Speaker 1: But Big Moms is pretty fucking good anyway. Kids. I
- 37:49Speaker 1: just really even in the live action I'm looking at it,
- 37:52Speaker 1: and the live action I think that version of the
- 37:55Speaker 1: ship is not as cute. This is a concept or
- 37:58Speaker 1: I'm looking at my bad, this is not the thing.
- 38:00Speaker 1: The concept art that they did, I don't love so
- 38:04Speaker 1: just saying that anyway, I know that this is not
- 38:08Speaker 1: here nor there, but it's the kind of thing that, like,
- 38:11Speaker 1: it's rare for me to have a moment in the
- 38:13Speaker 1: show where I see something and I'm like I want that,
- 38:16Speaker 1: I want that exact thing, and I kind of had
- 38:19Speaker 1: that with this ship. Every time I saw another side
- 38:21Speaker 1: of it or another angle of it, I was like,
- 38:24Speaker 1: this thing is rad as hell? What on earth? And
- 38:28Speaker 1: it's so weird because like, since the ship can sing,
- 38:31Speaker 1: it's got a face that sings on the figurehead, but
- 38:34Speaker 1: then the figurehead itself is wearing this like, uh, there's
- 38:40Speaker 1: sort of a layered effect with a lot of different
- 38:44Speaker 1: parts of the ship. But there's like a duck, like
- 38:48Speaker 1: a rubber ducky type duck that's got a crown on
- 38:50Speaker 1: at one point, and it seems to be like sitting
- 38:56Speaker 1: above the head that's singing. So it's almost like there's
- 38:59Speaker 1: two figurehead. It's weird. But anyway, this is when Nammy
- 39:07Speaker 1: earns her keep by coming in on this fight, and
- 39:12Speaker 1: she uses her weather controlling abilities to create a bunch
- 39:17Speaker 1: of fog and rain, which gives the ship cover to escape,
- 39:22Speaker 1: so that they can't just keep shooting rockets at them.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I said, rockets, cannonballs, you know whatever. So then we
- 39:31Speaker 1: come back to the present and after she has explained
- 39:33Speaker 1: all of this, everybody is applauding wildly, and you know,
- 39:37Speaker 1: it's a good moment. I think it's Loofy that says,
- 39:44Speaker 1: you guys really kick some ass, and Choppers like, yeah, whatever.
- 39:48Speaker 1: That doesn't make me blush, And of course he is
- 39:51Speaker 1: losing it. Noamy, Oh stop, I know I'm awesome, but please.
- 39:57Speaker 1: This reminded me a little bit of the Barbie movie
- 39:59Speaker 1: where you know, they're getting awards. I deserve this. And
- 40:05Speaker 1: Robin says, so how long did that all take exactly?
- 40:11Speaker 1: And she says, yeah, well, Zoo was like really close
- 40:15Speaker 1: to us, so we've been here for ten days. And
- 40:19Speaker 1: this is when Robin is like, all right, so what's
- 40:22Speaker 1: the deal with the city, because whatever happened to it
- 40:27Speaker 1: that totaled, it looks like it was really recent. And
- 40:32Speaker 1: this is when Wanda chimes in and is like, yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: you're right. By the time your friends got here, our
- 40:39Speaker 1: city had already been destroyed. But if we didn't have
- 40:43Speaker 1: them to help us, we would be lost. You know.
- 40:47Speaker 1: They fought for us. Also, there was his medical expertise, Choppers,
- 40:55Speaker 1: and she says, like we were nearly wiped out, helpless
- 40:59Speaker 1: to resis And I'm sorry, guys, Frankie says, I know
- 41:08Speaker 1: the wounds are pretty pretty fresh on this whole thing,
- 41:10Speaker 1: So if you don't want to talk about it, I'm
- 41:13Speaker 1: okay with that. And she says, no, no, no, we're allies,
- 41:18Speaker 1: and you guys do need to know. I'm gonna tell you.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Just as she is about to do this, of course,
- 41:25Speaker 1: we get some little creature that looks like a sloth.
- 41:30Speaker 1: He is hanging upside down from the doorframe and he
- 41:34Speaker 1: is yelling to all of them that the Duke is
- 41:37Speaker 1: awake from his coma. We don't even know who this
- 41:41Speaker 1: is yet all of the minks are very very excited.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Frankie not Frankie. Chopper is like says, finally, because obviously
- 41:50Speaker 1: Chopper has been involved with whatever's been going on with
- 41:55Speaker 1: the duke. Duke dog Storm, which is the one that
- 41:58Speaker 1: I am assuming in one does like thoughts and memories,
- 42:03Speaker 1: the dude who was getting his ass beat, I'm thinking
- 42:07Speaker 1: that that's probably who this is. So Chopper grabs his
- 42:12Speaker 1: bag and is like all right, let's go do a
- 42:15Speaker 1: check up and see what he what he needs. And
- 42:18Speaker 1: I love that he calls out for this little goat
- 42:21Speaker 1: who is dressed like a doctor. And they are being
- 42:24Speaker 1: followed by a girl that looks like she's got a
- 42:27Speaker 1: chipmunk's tail, or maybe a squirrel's tail. It looks like
- 42:30Speaker 1: a chipmunk because it's striped, but there's possibility that like
- 42:33Speaker 1: squirrels in other countries have striped tails. I don't know,
- 42:36Speaker 1: but uh, they all head out together. They're obviously all
- 42:41Speaker 1: meant to be, like the ones that are handling the
- 42:43Speaker 1: medicine in this place. And Wanda explains that he is
- 42:50Speaker 1: the ruler of all of zoo and was hurt really
- 42:54Speaker 1: badly in the attack, same as our other leader. And
- 42:57Speaker 1: Frankie is like, you've got two and she's like, yeah, yes,
- 43:00Speaker 1: I know it seems weird to you guys, but we
- 43:04Speaker 1: have duke dog Storm king of the day and master
- 43:09Speaker 1: cat Viper king of the night. So I guess this
- 43:15Speaker 1: is like a nocturnal daylight kind of situation. Maybe I
- 43:20Speaker 1: don't know, are dogs like I know the word nocturnal
- 43:27Speaker 1: for nighttime animals, but is there a ernal type word
- 43:32Speaker 1: for daytime animals. I actually don't know if there's a
- 43:36Speaker 1: counterpart to Nocturnal. I have to assume there is, so anyway,
- 43:41Speaker 1: that's the end of the first of these two episodes,
- 43:45Speaker 1: and then when we get into the second one we
- 43:48Speaker 1: get some more of these details. First, we have a
- 43:51Speaker 1: very brief check in with Trafalgar Law, who finds his
- 43:55Speaker 1: pirate his crew. Beppo gives him a big hug and
- 43:59Speaker 1: rub against him the way that the minks do, and
- 44:02Speaker 1: it is adorable. There's not really much time spent here,
- 44:08Speaker 1: it's just all of them like being happy to see
- 44:10Speaker 1: each other. And he says, oh, hey, I heard the news.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Nice job beating Dofla Mingo, and Law says, well, it
- 44:17Speaker 1: was really straw Hat who did it. And the other guy,
- 44:21Speaker 1: Penguin is on his hat says, let's catch up back
- 44:25Speaker 1: at the base, Captain, and that's all we see of them.
- 44:29Speaker 1: So we go back to the fortress and they are walking.
- 44:33Speaker 1: It's sort of interesting because like the fortress looks as
- 44:36Speaker 1: if it's made out of like giant tree trunk or something,
- 44:42Speaker 1: and there are these fruits inside that give off light.
- 44:46Speaker 1: So it's a pretty neat system the way that it's built,
- 44:51Speaker 1: and kind of tidy. I would say, even oh my gosh, diurnal,
- 44:58Speaker 1: says Sarahphem. I don't like that at all. It doesn't flow.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Nocturnal just goes, you know, like diurnal sounds. I don't know.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I think it's that nocturnal. The Knox just does enough
- 45:18Speaker 1: of the work in that word that you're really focusing
- 45:20Speaker 1: on that more than the urnal diurnal. The focus feels
- 45:24Speaker 1: like it's on the urnal. And that makes me think
- 45:25Speaker 1: of urinals. And also that die makes me think of diarrhea.
- 45:29Speaker 1: So we've got diarrhea urinal and I don't like it. Ugh,
- 45:32Speaker 1: what a shame. What can you do? So as they're
- 45:37Speaker 1: all walking along, at one point they turn, Wanda turns
- 45:42Speaker 1: and she's like, was about to talk about the plants,
- 45:46Speaker 1: and Loofy isn't there. And then they hear his voice
- 45:49Speaker 1: and when they look out one of the windows, they
- 45:51Speaker 1: see him hanging off of a huge bunch of grapes.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So there's a you know, we had seen these giant
- 46:00Speaker 1: pineapples before, and I didn't realize that it was gonna
- 46:04Speaker 1: be like all of the fruit here is huge, apparently,
- 46:08Speaker 1: and he can just like stick a straw. The the
- 46:14Speaker 1: grapes are roughly the size of like a beach ball
- 46:18Speaker 1: each grape. So he just dicks a straw and drinks
- 46:22Speaker 1: the juice right out of it, and this is rad
- 46:26Speaker 1: as hell. I love this so much. Us Up says, dude,
- 46:31Speaker 1: we do not have time for this. We had this
- 46:33Speaker 1: giant fucking feast. How are you still hungry? And Lufy
- 46:39Speaker 1: sort of hangs off the side and oos Up implies
- 46:43Speaker 1: that maybe he's drunk. I'm not sure if that's like
- 46:48Speaker 1: meant to be a thing that we'll find out is
- 46:50Speaker 1: true later. He doesn't seem to be like as the
- 46:54Speaker 1: scene goes on, it seems like he's not and he's
- 46:56Speaker 1: just being silly loofy. But I did sort of wonder
- 47:00Speaker 1: if we're going to find out that's a thing that
- 47:03Speaker 1: can happen. And because he stopped drinking quickly enough, it
- 47:08Speaker 1: didn't affect him that way, but it can. I don't know.
- 47:12Speaker 1: I'll keep my eye on it. So let's see she's talking.
- 47:19Speaker 1: Wanda is continuing to tell them about the city and
- 47:22Speaker 1: how the place that they saw that's been destroyed was
- 47:25Speaker 1: the capital only a few weeks ago. It was vibrant
- 47:29Speaker 1: and bustling, and we get to see everybody like down
- 47:32Speaker 1: at the market and how everybody really seemed to get
- 47:36Speaker 1: along with each other pretty well. There is a point
- 47:39Speaker 1: where these two dudes are sort of fighting and they
- 47:44Speaker 1: stop and immediately go, who cares, as long as we're healthy,
- 47:48Speaker 1: and begin like sort of dancing together. They've decided to
- 47:51Speaker 1: just drop their differences, which I don't know. I just
- 47:56Speaker 1: sort of thought this was adorable, you know, And then
- 48:01Speaker 1: all of a sudden, let's see, I'm trying to find
- 48:05Speaker 1: the spot here where the bell begins to ring, and
- 48:10Speaker 1: I feel like they've called it the danger bell or
- 48:13Speaker 1: something like this. I'm sure that this is a thing
- 48:19Speaker 1: that exists and existed in many many places, that there
- 48:24Speaker 1: is a signal to let people know a problem is
- 48:28Speaker 1: happening and that you should take cover what it reminded
- 48:31Speaker 1: me of because of what I'm doing right now in
- 48:33Speaker 1: terms of some of my own creative writing stuff, I've
- 48:36Speaker 1: been looking into the history of New Bedford, Massachusetts, which
- 48:40Speaker 1: was like a really particularly racially diverse community in the
- 48:45Speaker 1: eighteen hundreds. I think that Massachusetts abolished slavery in the
- 48:50Speaker 1: late seventeen hundreds, so it was one of the earlier
- 48:53Speaker 1: places that black people could be free and even though
- 48:56Speaker 1: technically on a countrywide like federal level, people could be
- 49:01Speaker 1: recaptured and re enslaved. There were a lot of communities
- 49:06Speaker 1: that were heavily populated with Quaker abolitionists in Massachusetts and
- 49:11Speaker 1: in New Bedford in particular, they had a bell they
- 49:13Speaker 1: would ring whenever anybody saw a slave catcher, and they
- 49:17Speaker 1: would ring it and everybody who was at risk of
- 49:22Speaker 1: being and this means all black people, because even if
- 49:25Speaker 1: you were not originally a slave and you were born
- 49:27Speaker 1: free in Massachusetts, that didn't matter, because slave catchers could
- 49:32Speaker 1: just say you were an escape slave and take you,
- 49:35Speaker 1: and a lot of times there was nothing to be
- 49:37Speaker 1: fucking done about it. So they would basically use this
- 49:41Speaker 1: to organize and team up and hide people. And so
- 49:45Speaker 1: a lot of houses had like secret rooms in their
- 49:48Speaker 1: cellars or false backs to their closets, and they would
- 49:51Speaker 1: hide people until the slave catcher was gone. Except for
- 49:55Speaker 1: one time. And I'm just telling this story because it's
- 49:57Speaker 1: so good, you guys, but I think his name was
- 50:01Speaker 1: Nathaniel Johnson, and he and his wife owned businesses that
- 50:07Speaker 1: were very successful, and really she was the one doing
- 50:09Speaker 1: the work. He gets a lot of the credit because
- 50:11Speaker 1: he was a man, but he was the one who
- 50:13Speaker 1: was really really financially irresponsible, as it turns out. But
- 50:17Speaker 1: he uh found out that there was a slave catcher
- 50:20Speaker 1: in town staying at this like rented place, and him
- 50:25Speaker 1: and a group of dudes. Nathaniel was black, and I
- 50:30Speaker 1: don't remember if he was a former slave or if
- 50:32Speaker 1: he was born free, but he got a group of
- 50:36Speaker 1: dudes together and they went and broke this slave catcher's
- 50:40Speaker 1: door down, yanked him out onto the street and beat
- 50:44Speaker 1: the shit out of him, and they got arrested for
- 50:50Speaker 1: doing this to the guy. But then at trial, Nathaniel
- 50:56Speaker 1: the black man was found not guilty, which I would
- 51:02Speaker 1: have never believed ever. Like that story. When I read it,
- 51:06Speaker 1: I was ready for like the really frustrating, depressing ending.
- 51:09Speaker 1: And when I found out that he was acquitted and
- 51:12Speaker 1: everybody was like, oh, yeah, it was a slave catcher.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Fuck that guy, it just warmed my heart so much.
- 51:17Speaker 1: And then recently with everything that's been going on with
- 51:20Speaker 1: Ice and how communities have really been stepping out and
- 51:23Speaker 1: just been like, I don't think so, it has been
- 51:26Speaker 1: really reminding me of the stories I was reading about
- 51:28Speaker 1: New Bedford in particular, and it's just you know, when
- 51:32Speaker 1: we decide that we are going to have each other's backs,
- 51:35Speaker 1: it's sort of like unbeatable as long as we hold
- 51:40Speaker 1: tight enough and there are enough of us, and there
- 51:43Speaker 1: almost always are enough of us if we all were
- 51:46Speaker 1: to do it. So anyway, it's just a little delicious
- 51:52Speaker 1: morsel for you to think back on. How even in
- 51:56Speaker 1: like the eighteen forties, there was a point where white
- 52:00Speaker 1: people were like, no, this black man who beat the
- 52:03Speaker 1: shit out of a white man, it's fine because that
- 52:05Speaker 1: man was a slave catcher and therefore garbage. I love it.
- 52:08Speaker 1: I love this for them. So anyway, okay, this is
- 52:13Speaker 1: when the overall attack begins. The gates on the front
- 52:19Speaker 1: of their city are like caving in under repeated barrages,
- 52:24Speaker 1: and it feels like somebody has got this massive battering
- 52:27Speaker 1: ram and the gates are knocked off their hinges, which
- 52:30Speaker 1: we did eventually see, or I say eventually we did
- 52:35Speaker 1: see earlier as they came in looking at how like
- 52:38Speaker 1: the hinges had been torn out and the gates were
- 52:40Speaker 1: on the ground, and you see this massive shadow fill
- 52:45Speaker 1: up the entire gateway, And all I could think was,
- 52:50Speaker 1: like they built these gates to the exact specifications to
- 52:55Speaker 1: showcase this creature, because if they had built it's lower,
- 53:01Speaker 1: this thing could probably have literally stepped right over them,
- 53:05Speaker 1: you know. So yeah, this little monkey guy is like
- 53:09Speaker 1: frantic about ringing the bell and trying to warn everybody
- 53:13Speaker 1: as best he can, but it's clear like they are
- 53:16Speaker 1: going to suffer a lot of casualties because whoever is
- 53:19Speaker 1: about to come in here does not give a fuck,
- 53:22Speaker 1: and that it turns out, is Jack. We also get
- 53:29Speaker 1: like that she's talking about how they invaded the city
- 53:33Speaker 1: and that Zunesha, the elephant whose back they are all on,
- 53:42Speaker 1: could feel all the disruption, and we get this weird
- 53:46Speaker 1: illustration of Zunesha like screeching and the smoke coming out
- 53:53Speaker 1: of or her mouth around her front. It's a weird
- 53:58Speaker 1: like I wasn't sure where the smoke was meant to
- 54:00Speaker 1: be coming from or if that was supposed to be
- 54:02Speaker 1: like directly coming out of her skin. I don't know.
- 54:08Speaker 1: But yeah, this is when we find out that they
- 54:11Speaker 1: were looking for a ninja. At one point, Jim Rummy
- 54:16Speaker 1: calls him a samurai, and the other dude whose name
- 54:21Speaker 1: I am not remembering, he makes fun of her for
- 54:24Speaker 1: calling him a samurai and She's like, it's the same thing,
- 54:27Speaker 1: basically whatever. Everybody knows what I mean. And I wondered
- 54:30Speaker 1: if that was like a sort of inside joke of
- 54:34Speaker 1: some kind. It felt like very pointed in a way
- 54:37Speaker 1: that I was wondering what that was about. And Jack
- 54:42Speaker 1: the drought, that's what he is. How did he earn
- 54:46Speaker 1: that title? You may ask. Every nation he passes through
- 54:50Speaker 1: is left so barren. It looks like they suffered a drought.
- 54:55Speaker 1: And we wouldn't want your country to meet such a
- 54:58Speaker 1: cruel fate. So tell us where Riiso is, or your
- 55:04Speaker 1: children won't have a future anymore. And they do not
- 55:10Speaker 1: know who he is talking about, and it does not
- 55:14Speaker 1: seem as if any of these guys actually believe their denials.
- 55:19Speaker 1: And we get a moment of them being like kids,
- 55:22Speaker 1: children and women who cares kill them all. And they
- 55:26Speaker 1: go up to a little kid who is sort of
- 55:30Speaker 1: raccoonish looking type, and they have fucked with the wrong
- 55:35Speaker 1: one because they put their hand on him and they
- 55:38Speaker 1: get sent flying backward and electrocuted. And this is when
- 55:45Speaker 1: we find out with the thing with their fur, and
- 55:49Speaker 1: that all of this this is a power that like
- 55:52Speaker 1: apparently all the mink have so people come in here
- 55:55Speaker 1: really thinking that they're going to have an easy time
- 55:57Speaker 1: of it, but even little kids know how to use
- 56:00Speaker 1: this ability and that it is not as easy as
- 56:03Speaker 1: folks expect to take these folks down. And it was fun.
- 56:08Speaker 1: I liked it. I liked seeing this little kid just
- 56:10Speaker 1: be like, you know what, no fuck you. And then
- 56:12Speaker 1: his mom also joins in the fight, and the pirates
- 56:16Speaker 1: are like laid out, all like twitching and still like,
- 56:22Speaker 1: you know, the shock of the electrocution is lasting quite
- 56:30Speaker 1: a long time after they've been touched. I thought that
- 56:33Speaker 1: was interesting. At one point, the dude gets the one
- 56:39Speaker 1: who is still continuing to tremble with shock. He gets
- 56:43Speaker 1: stomped on by Jack, who says, what are you idiots doing?
- 56:51Speaker 1: And I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be
- 56:53Speaker 1: that I'm putting him out of his misery, that I'm
- 56:55Speaker 1: literally killing this guy, or if it's supposed to be
- 56:58Speaker 1: that like stomping on him because I'm so big I
- 57:02Speaker 1: can absorb that electricity and it doesn't affect me, and
- 57:06Speaker 1: I'm saving him, you know, if that was what it was.
- 57:12Speaker 1: But you know, there is an attempt to mitigate all
- 57:16Speaker 1: of this and be like you guys can just search
- 57:18Speaker 1: and see if you can find him, and he isn't here,
- 57:21Speaker 1: and Jack decides that by search, you mean I knock
- 57:26Speaker 1: all your buildings down so that I can just see
- 57:28Speaker 1: inside all of them, right, And so that is what
- 57:31Speaker 1: he does, and Wanda says, we don't know how he
- 57:35Speaker 1: managed to make his way to our country, or why
- 57:39Speaker 1: he even thought that Raiso was here in the first place.
- 57:44Speaker 1: And it's hard for me to tell whether or not
- 57:48Speaker 1: they really don't know who Raiso is or if they're
- 57:52Speaker 1: just protecting somebody I genuinely couldn't tell. It feels like
- 57:57Speaker 1: they genuinely don't know who he is. But it may
- 58:01Speaker 1: be that we find out actually he was here this
- 58:04Speaker 1: whole time, and you know, I don't know. Long story short, though,
- 58:12Speaker 1: the like whole thing ends with them starting because they're
- 58:19Speaker 1: heading towards the Duke as all of this is being told.
- 58:23Speaker 1: They are journeying out to see the guy who has recovered,
- 58:27Speaker 1: and this is when Loofy blurts out, it's really too
- 58:33Speaker 1: bad that our Samurai friends aren't here to see this,
- 58:37Speaker 1: because they would think it was so cool. And that
- 58:41Speaker 1: is how the episode ends. Is Wanda looking horrified and
- 58:46Speaker 1: everybody else looking upset. So what else is new fucking
- 58:51Speaker 1: loofy him smiling, saying a thing while everybody around him
- 58:56Speaker 1: claps their hand to their face, and it's just like,
- 58:58Speaker 1: I cannot believe he fucking said that, And I forgot that.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Like right before he says that, Brooke repeats his warning
- 59:10Speaker 1: if they find out that Kinimon has a possible connection
- 59:13Speaker 1: to this tragedy, it could be a complete disaster, and
- 59:16Speaker 1: he's thinking that, but right before he actually said out
- 59:20Speaker 1: loud to Frankie, like remember what I said, don't say
- 59:24Speaker 1: any of those words. So it is extra perfect when
- 59:29Speaker 1: Lufy says, what a bummer? Where's that ninja? From Juana?
- 59:34Speaker 1: Kinimon wanted to see him write what a shame? And
- 59:38Speaker 1: I had completely like missed the fact that what Brook
- 59:42Speaker 1: says and what Lufy's sisters that close together. So yeah,
- 59:47Speaker 1: so that's the end of the episode, and I just
- 59:51Speaker 1: wanted to mention I'm so sorry, Florian, because I just
- 59:54Speaker 1: saw before recording that you had messaged me, and I
- 59:58Speaker 1: think Florian was telling me about like the uh, seven
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: fifty six through seven fifty seven and then seven fifty
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: eight through seven sixty are coming up. We could break
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: it down differently and do three episodes and then two.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: I haven't looked at either, and so apologies on just
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: doing it the way that it was originally done. I
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: didn't even see your message in time, so I'll just
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: be doing three next time. But I just wanted to
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: let you know that I did see it, but not
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: until it was too late. So next time it'll be
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: three episodes. Friends. Yeah, I'm having fun with this so far.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: It's just very weird, but you know, it's weird in
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: a It's weird in a way that I kind of
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: like in comparison to the weirdness of Dress Rosa, because
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: you know, the whole thing with like toys living amongst them.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I was just flabbergasted. And it takes a long time
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: before we actually find out what the hell is going on,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: whereas here it's very weird. But I also we get
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: to find out what's happening quickly, and I like that.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I appreciate that it doesn't feel like that part's necessarily
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: going to be super drawn out. Maybe there's another whole
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: aspect that will be super drawn out. I don't know,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: we'll see, but I remain optimistic, all right, everybody, I
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: will see you on Thursday with a new episode, and
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: until then, to the Loo, motherfuckers. That was an unspoiled
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: network podcast. Yeah,
