- 0:08Speaker 1: Good evening, everyone. Welcome to the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show
- 0:13Speaker 1: tonight from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. It's the Guardians
- 0:18Speaker 1: and the Philadelphia Phillies, game one of this three-game series.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Jim Rosenhouse along with you. Guardians looking to stay hot,
- 0:25Speaker 1: one of the hottest clubs in baseball as they've won
- 0:27Speaker 1: six in a row now. after sweeping the Detroit Tigers
- 0:31Speaker 1: in a four-game series. Now it's on to face the Phillies,
- 0:34Speaker 1: who are red hot. The Phillies, who began the year 9-19,
- 0:38Speaker 1: are back to the 500 mark. And while they are
- 0:41Speaker 1: 9-1⁄2 out in the NL East, they are certainly figuring
- 0:45Speaker 1: to be a team to contend with for the remainder
- 0:48Speaker 1: of the season. Guardians coming in in first place in
- 0:51Speaker 1: the AL Central, 3-1⁄2 up now on the second-place White Sox.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Stay tuned. We'll have more to come after this. Welcome
- 1:09Speaker 1: back to Guardian's Warm-Up. It's time for the weekly farm
- 1:12Speaker 1: report with Stephen Oster, the Vice President of Player Development.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And we go to the lowest level of full-season baseball
- 1:19Speaker 1: in the Guardian's farm system, Carolina League. the Hill City
- 1:23Speaker 1: Howlers based out of Lynchburg, Virginia. And, Asti, I know
- 1:27Speaker 1: it's always a fun level because a lot of these
- 1:29Speaker 1: players are going through that first full season for the
- 1:31Speaker 1: first time. But the first player I wanted to talk
- 1:34Speaker 1: about was someone we saw quite a bit in spring training,
- 1:37Speaker 1: especially toward the tail end, Dari Fernandez, who looks like
- 1:40Speaker 1: he's off to a real nice start both at the
- 1:43Speaker 1: plate and in the field.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, good morning, Rosie.
- 1:47Speaker 3: The Hill City group, to your point, has got a
- 1:49Speaker 3: lot of energy. It's been a week there, and they're
- 1:52Speaker 3: really fun to watch, the young guys. But Dar is
- 1:55Speaker 3: one of those players who's young. He's really talented. He's
- 2:00Speaker 3: a switch-hitting infielder who's played a lot of his time
- 2:03Speaker 3: last year in the Arizona Complex level and got a
- 2:06Speaker 3: small taste of the affiliate life last year when winning
- 2:10Speaker 3: that championship and you know, he's.
- 2:12Speaker 2: He's a really interesting profile offensively.
- 2:14Speaker 3: He's got really strong bat to ball skills, but is
- 2:18Speaker 3: also aggressive in zone and, and out of zone tends
- 2:21Speaker 3: to chase pitches sometimes, but still remains really productive at
- 2:25Speaker 3: the plate. So there's been a lot of work, you know,
- 2:28Speaker 3: cleaning up the swing decisions, getting him to understand and
- 2:30Speaker 3: stay within more of his like targeted swing zones.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And that's been a strong emphasis to start the year.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And You know, he's really gifted as an athlete and
- 2:40Speaker 3: spends a lot of his time on the left side
- 2:43Speaker 3: of the infield, but he's pretty much handled everyday shortstop
- 2:46Speaker 3: duties with an injury the last few weeks for one
- 2:48Speaker 3: of our other infielders. He's got a plus arm strength
- 2:51Speaker 3: out there.
- 2:52Speaker 2: He's a strong and accurate thrower. He's got good.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Actions and presence at the position, and he's developing really
- 2:58Speaker 3: well there. So it's been exciting to see him get
- 3:00Speaker 3: a lot more of those playing reps at shortstop. And
- 3:04Speaker 3: like a lot of these young players, There's just a
- 3:06Speaker 3: huge tie-in to the physical development like we've talked about
- 3:09Speaker 3: and how that fits to just the long-term view of
- 3:12Speaker 3: what he could be. We're looking to continue to build
- 3:15Speaker 3: off of a really good offseason where we saw him
- 3:17Speaker 3: tack on some strength and power and muscle mass.
- 3:20Speaker 2: There's still some frame to go and some work to
- 3:23Speaker 2: be done there.
- 3:24Speaker 3: We think that'll translate long-term to more power and punch offensively,
- 3:28Speaker 3: but handling the position really well right now and doing
- 3:32Speaker 3: a lot of good things.
- 3:32Speaker 2: He's just a fun one to watch.
- 3:34Speaker 1: We'll take a timeout and then talk pitching at Hill
- 3:37Speaker 1: City when we return after this.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Here's the Bet365 Minute, where winning is everything, with Scott Davidson.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Let's check out the numbers tonight. The Guardians are hot,
- 3:48Speaker 5: but they're a big underdog tonight. Philadelphia minus 185. Low total,
- 3:52Speaker 5: it's six.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And a half.
- 3:53Speaker 5: And let's keep this red hot run going here. Let's
- 3:55Speaker 5: give you another winner on a money line play. I
- 3:58Speaker 5: like the Red Sox over the Twins tonight. Now it's
- 4:01Speaker 5: rising star Peyton Tolley on the hill. He goes against
- 4:04Speaker 5: another rising star, and that is Connor Prelip, but Prelip
- 4:07Speaker 5: gets no run support. He's kind of like Tanner Bybee.
- 4:10Speaker 5: And the big deciding factor for me here is that
- 4:13Speaker 5: Boston is currently the best team in the majors.
- 4:16Speaker 1: At hitting lefties.
- 4:17Speaker 5: So we get two good pitchers and one team that
- 4:20Speaker 5: just crushes left-handed pitching. The Red Sox are coming off
- 4:23Speaker 5: a sweep in KC.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I like them.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Tonight on the Moneyline. Now you can join me when
- 4:26Speaker 5: you download the Bet365 app. Bet $ 10, get.
- 4:29Speaker 1: $ 200 in bonus bets. Win or lose, terms and conditions apply.
- 4:32Speaker 1: That's the Bet365 Minute. I'm Scott Davidson.

- 4:36Speaker 7: Call 1-800-MY-RESET. 21-plus only. Must be physically located in Ohio.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Welcome back. It's Guardians warm-up. Steven Oster is joining us.
- 4:45Speaker 1: He's the vice president of player development for the Guardians.
- 4:48Speaker 1: We're talking about the single-A affiliate in the Carolina League,
- 4:50Speaker 1: the Hill City Howlers. And we'll turn to the mound,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and you have an award winner, a Carolina League award
- 4:56Speaker 1: winner for the early portion of the schedule, left-hander Harrison Bodendorf.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And what's Bodendorf done to really stand out in the
- 5:03Speaker 1: early season?
- 5:05Speaker 3: Yeah it's always fun having an early award and yeah
- 5:09Speaker 3: Harrison came out and pitched extremely well over the starts
- 5:13Speaker 3: that he's made in April and this is a left-handed
- 5:16Speaker 3: college arm that we took last year in the draft
- 5:19Speaker 3: and he was maybe a tick on the polished side
- 5:23Speaker 3: when we took him and you know we thought there's
- 5:26Speaker 3: a lot of development left to gain and he was
- 5:29Speaker 3: a performer, strikethrower and yeah, there are some things that
- 5:32Speaker 3: we could tap into from a velocity standpoint and, and
- 5:36Speaker 3: things that we can kind of build upon.
- 5:38Speaker 2: As, as we got him. So he's got a unique
- 5:41Speaker 2: slot with a fastball.
- 5:43Speaker 3: It's going to play above its current velocity, which is
- 5:45Speaker 3: holding down to maybe in the low nineties. It's, it's
- 5:48Speaker 3: more East to West from the, from an arsenal standpoint,
- 5:51Speaker 3: he's got a really good change up. He's done a
- 5:54Speaker 3: phenomenal job of just controlling counts and getting ahead.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And that's resulted in not really walking anyone.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And, His stuff has played up because of it, and
- 6:03Speaker 3: he's striking out about 36% of the batters he's facing,
- 6:06Speaker 3: which is a lot. Again, I think the long-term vision
- 6:10Speaker 3: for him here is just hinge on him continuing to
- 6:13Speaker 3: gain velocity over time. This is probably more of a
- 6:16Speaker 3: slow drip than it is a hurried rush, and we've
- 6:20Speaker 3: seen some of that development already. That part is really exciting.
- 6:24Speaker 3: He's got a big frame.
- 6:25Speaker 2: He's a big guy.
- 6:26Speaker 3: There's a lot of room left for growth physically, so
- 6:29Speaker 3: We're seeing that upward trajectory to start his professional career,
- 6:33Speaker 3: and we think that.
- 6:34Speaker 2: We can continue to see that moving forward.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Bodendorf has come out as hot as anyone in that league, obviously,
- 6:41Speaker 3: and there's a lot to like and build upon for
- 6:43Speaker 3: the future.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I know most are a ways away from the major leagues,
- 6:48Speaker 1: but it's exciting to hear about what could be for
- 6:51Speaker 1: a lot of these guys. Asti, always fun to have
- 6:53Speaker 1: you along. Thank you.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Thank you, Rosie.
- 6:56Speaker 1: That is Stephen Oster, Vice President of Player Development. Stay tuned.
- 6:59Speaker 1: We'll have more to come after this.
- 7:01Speaker 8: Do you read more about your team in the offseason
- 7:04Speaker 8: than in the season season? Does your game day outfit

- 9:34Speaker 13: 54 with more rain and rumbles of thunder. Saturday, morning
- 9:38Speaker 13: rain and then scattered showers and a rumble of thunder
- 9:41Speaker 13: during the afternoon. It's going to be blustery, a high 72.
- 9:45Speaker 13: From the 3 News Weather Center, I'm Mark Johnson.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Touch and go weekend here. When we come back, Tom
- 9:51Speaker 1: Hamilton visits with manager Stephen Vogt. It's the KeyBank Manager Show,
- 9:55Speaker 1: and it comes your way next on the Cleveland Clinic
- 9:58Speaker 1: Radio Network.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Today.
- 10:01Speaker 10: Hi again, everybody, with Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt.
- 10:13Speaker 7: This is Tom Hamilton.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Welcome. It's the Manager Show. It's brought to you by
- 10:18Speaker 1: Key Bank. Okay, I know you don't look back, but
- 10:21Speaker 1: doggone it, can't we for a couple of minutes here?
- 10:23Speaker 1: That was some kind of four-game series.
- 10:25Speaker 12: Yeah, it was, and we could definitely look back. We
- 10:27Speaker 12: haven't started tonight yet. What a fun series. I mean,
- 10:32Speaker 12: you know, you get a big win Monday night and
- 10:33Speaker 12: then three close ones. And, you know, we pitched well.
- 10:37Speaker 12: We had timely hitting, some clutch hitting, and some really
- 10:40Speaker 12: good defense. And it was just a really, really fun
- 10:43Speaker 12: for it. It's hard to win three out of four,
- 10:45Speaker 12: let alone sweep, and really fun for our guys.
- 10:48Speaker 1: And again, we haven't even quite gotten to Memorial Day,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but what does that do for your club? Let's face it,
- 10:55Speaker 1: you two have really become rivals, Cleveland and Detroit, here
- 10:58Speaker 1: over the last, if you include this year, three years.
- 11:00Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean, I think it's good, especially for our
- 11:03Speaker 12: young guys, because they've watched this series between us, and
- 11:07Speaker 12: we know the Tigers aren't going anywhere. We know they're
- 11:09Speaker 12: going to be back. We know that they're going to
- 11:10Speaker 12: get healthy and get better, and So for us to
- 11:13Speaker 12: go in there and take four, it's a big swing
- 11:15Speaker 12: for us. And just for our guys to know this
- 11:19Speaker 12: little stretch we've been on, we're capable of doing this.
- 11:22Speaker 12: And that's really powerful going into 111 games left.
- 11:26Speaker 1: You may not have wanted to diagram the way things
- 11:30Speaker 1: went last year for you. But the fact that you
- 11:33Speaker 1: were on the other end of it and came from
- 11:35Speaker 1: 15.5 back, came from 11 back in September, does that
- 11:39Speaker 1: help your club now when you're on the other side
- 11:42Speaker 1: or the good side?
- 11:43Speaker 12: Again, we're trying not to look at the standings this
- 11:45Speaker 12: time of year. We just want to focus on today's
- 11:48Speaker 12: game and win today's game. If we can just keep
- 11:51Speaker 12: stacking good days, if we can just keep stacking good wins,
- 11:54Speaker 12: good well-played games, you're not going to win every game.
- 11:57Speaker 12: But we want to play well every day. And if
- 11:58Speaker 12: we can continue to stack those days, we're going to
- 12:01Speaker 12: like where we end up.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Okay.
- 12:02Speaker 1: What do you like best of what you're seeing here
- 12:04Speaker 1: over the last two plus weeks?
- 12:06Speaker 12: Well, just the quality of bats. You know, obviously we're
- 12:08Speaker 12: pitching well. I feel like we never talk about the
- 12:11Speaker 12: pitching when it's going well. We don't ever give them
- 12:13Speaker 12: the credit. I mean, our starters have been great. The
- 12:16Speaker 12: bullpen has been fantastic. And they're getting good defense behind them.
- 12:19Speaker 12: They're using their fielders. But the quality of bats, I mean,
- 12:22Speaker 12: the walks. We're getting on base. We're touching first. And
- 12:26Speaker 12: then we're executing when we get those runners in scoring position.
- 12:29Speaker 12: I mean, we've been bunting a lot. We've been hitting
- 12:32Speaker 12: some sack flies, getting some RBI ground outs. We're running
- 12:34Speaker 12: the bases well. There's just a lot to be happy about,
- 12:36Speaker 12: but we have to keep going.
- 12:38Speaker 7: This is a more dangerous lineup than a year ago,
- 12:41Speaker 7: isn't it?
- 12:41Speaker 12: By far, yeah. I mean, just getting some of our
- 12:44Speaker 12: younger hitters here and adding people like Hoskins, who gives
- 12:47Speaker 12: you a quality at bat every single time, we really
- 12:50Speaker 12: feel like this is a very deep lineup. I mean,
- 12:52Speaker 12: you see it. Brian Rocchio is one of our best
- 12:54Speaker 12: hitters at ninth.
- 12:55Speaker 14: Yep.
- 12:56Speaker 12: Stephen Kwan's hitting seventh for us. I mean, that is
- 12:58Speaker 12: a very long lineup.
- 12:59Speaker 1: All right.
- 13:00Speaker 7: This is a whole different animal now.
- 13:02Speaker 1: The Philadelphia Phillies in this ballpark, they look like the
- 13:06Speaker 1: Phillies again, don't they?
- 13:07Speaker 12: Yeah, they got off to a slow start. This is
- 13:09Speaker 12: one of the best teams in baseball. They have been
- 13:11Speaker 12: for the last few years. They still are. It's a
- 13:14Speaker 12: really long, deep lineup. They've got three very good starting
- 13:17Speaker 12: pitchers are thrown at us in the back end of
- 13:18Speaker 12: their bullpens. Pretty good. So we got our work cut
- 13:21Speaker 12: out for us. We know that. We came here two
- 13:22Speaker 12: years ago and took a series from them. That's our
- 13:25Speaker 12: goal this one. Let's win this series too.
- 13:27Speaker 1: How do you attack a guy like Schwarber? Now he's
- 13:30Speaker 1: missed three games because he had a stomach bug, but
- 13:33Speaker 1: voter nine home runs in 10 games and he already
- 13:36Speaker 1: has 20?
- 13:36Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean, there's a reason he's the only DH
- 13:40Speaker 12: left in baseball. I mean, this kid can hit and
- 13:42Speaker 12: he always has everywhere he's been, but we just have
- 13:45Speaker 12: to make pitches. Every good hitter has holes. They have weaknesses.
- 13:48Speaker 12: It's still hard to square the ball up. Just make
- 13:50Speaker 12: quality pitches to him and hopefully he pops them up.
- 13:53Speaker 1: How has Sanchez gotten to 29 consecutive innings without giving
- 13:58Speaker 1: up a run? What makes him special?
- 14:00Speaker 12: I mean, he's a tough lefty. It's a tough angle.
- 14:02Speaker 12: He's got a really good sinker, and his changeup is
- 14:05Speaker 12: very hard, and it bites. And any time you've got
- 14:08Speaker 12: two really good ground ball pitches like that, it's very
- 14:10Speaker 12: similar to Framber that we did. So we've got to
- 14:12Speaker 12: hit him in the air. That's the goal again today.
- 14:14Speaker 12: Let's see how many fly balls we can hit. We've
- 14:16Speaker 12: got to hit it over the infielders' heads.
- 14:18Speaker 7: I sense you're excited for this series. Fun to see
- 14:21Speaker 7: how you match up, isn't it?
- 14:22Speaker 12: Yeah, it's always fun. It's fun to come to these
- 14:24Speaker 12: National League parks every other year. It really is. This
- 14:27Speaker 12: is a great place to play. It's a weekend. It's
- 14:29Speaker 12: going to be crazy and crowded. I'm sure the Philly
- 14:33Speaker 12: fans will be very kind to us, and they won't
- 14:35Speaker 12: have any smart-aleck comments for us. It'll be just a nice,
- 14:38Speaker 12: quiet weekend here in Philly.
- 14:40Speaker 1: There you have it, folks. Stephen Vogt, the American League
- 14:42Speaker 1: Manager of the Year. Tom Hamilton inviting you to stay
- 14:45Speaker 1: tuned for this first game of the weekend series with Philly.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Next on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network. Welcome back to
- 14:57Speaker 1: the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show. Time for the pitching matchup
- 15:01Speaker 1: as the Guardians and Phillies get ready for game one
- 15:05Speaker 1: of this three-game weekend series. Right-hander Gavin Williams on the
- 15:08Speaker 1: mound for the Guardians. Six and three after ten starts
- 15:12Speaker 1: and earned run average. a 3.67, coming off a win
- 15:15Speaker 1: in his last time out Sunday against the Reds with
- 15:19Speaker 1: six strong innings, two starts in his career against the Phillies.
- 15:22Speaker 1: He's pitched nine innings and allowed just one run. He'll
- 15:26Speaker 1: be opposed by the tough lefty Christopher Sanchez, one of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the best in baseball, 5-2 this year with an ERA
- 15:33Speaker 1: of 1.82. He's coming off a shutout against the Pirates
- 15:37Speaker 1: on Saturday in which he struck out 13, didn't walk
- 15:41Speaker 1: a batter. Only time he's faced the Guardians was right
- 15:44Speaker 1: here two years ago. Guardians got to him. They pinned
- 15:46Speaker 1: a loss on Sanchez as he allowed three runs in
- 15:49Speaker 1: six innings. That's your pitching matchup. And that'll do it
- 15:52Speaker 1: for Guardians warm-up. Stay tuned. Starting lineups and the first pitch,
- 15:56Speaker 1: they come your way next. The Guardian's warm-up show has
- 16:03Speaker 1: been brought to you by Cleveland Clinic. When defying the

- 20:13Speaker 1: evening once again, everyone. Welcome back to Citizens Bank Park
- 20:16Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. Guardians and the Phillies getting ready for game
- 20:20Speaker 1: one of this three-game series. Time now for the starting lineups.
- 20:24Speaker 1: First for the Guardians and manager Stephen Vogt. Leading things off,
- 20:27Speaker 1: Angel Martinez, the right fielder. Jose Ramirez at third base,
- 20:31Speaker 1: bats second. Reese Hoskins, the first baseman, will bat third.
- 20:35Speaker 1: With David Frye, the designated hitter, batting cleanup. Travis Bazzana
- 20:39Speaker 1: at second base hits fifth. Brian Rocchio, the shortstop, will
- 20:43Speaker 1: bat sixth. Stephen Kwan in left field hits seventh. Austin
- 20:47Speaker 1: Hedges will do the catching and bat eighth. And Petey
- 20:49Speaker 1: Halpin is in center field batting ninth. On the mound.
- 20:53Speaker 1: It's right-hander Gavin Williams. Now for the Phillies and their
- 20:57Speaker 1: manager Don Mattingly. Leading things off, Trey Turner, the shortstop.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber, the designated hitter, bats second. Bryce Harper will
- 21:04Speaker 1: hit third and play first base. Alec Boehm at third
- 21:08Speaker 1: base hits cleanup. Brandon Marsh, the left fielder, bats fifth.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Adolis Garcia in right field hits sixth. Bryson Stott, the
- 21:15Speaker 1: second baseman, bats seventh. JT Realmuto is doing the catching.
- 21:20Speaker 1: He'll hit eighth. And batting ninth in center field, Justin Crawford.
- 21:25Speaker 1: On the mound tonight for the Philadelphia Phillies, it's lefty
- 21:29Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez. Those of you who are starting lineups, now
- 21:32Speaker 1: stay tuned. When we return, Tom Hamilton has tonight's first
- 21:36Speaker 1: pitch on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 21:40Speaker 15: Stadium GM. Nobody beats a stadium deal. West State Street
- 21:44Speaker 15: in Salem. Valentine Roofing. Protecting what you love. By Bernard

- 21:53Speaker 15: by Elite Pharmacy. Elite isn't just the name. Elite is
- 21:58Speaker 15: the mission.
- 22:21Speaker 1: From Citizens Bank Park, right near the Delaware River, we
- 22:27Speaker 1: greet you tonight from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Game number 53, as
- 22:34Speaker 1: the Cleveland Guardians and the Philadelphia Phillies are slated to
- 22:38Speaker 1: start this game in the rain. The rain continues to fall,
- 22:44Speaker 1: but right now they have lined the field with And
- 22:48Speaker 1: we are starting this game, and if you're wondering, huh,
- 22:51Speaker 1: here's the reason why, this might be the best weather
- 22:54Speaker 1: we have the rest of the weekend, what we have
- 22:57Speaker 1: right now. The eastern seaboard is getting pounded by cold
- 23:02Speaker 1: temperatures and rain, and it's already started here. There's already
- 23:08Speaker 1: talk that there could be a day-night doubleheader on Sunday.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Get this, folks. Philly plays Monday afternoon in San Diego.
- 23:18Speaker 1: How in the world you can make the Phillies play
- 23:21Speaker 1: a day-night doubleheader here on Sunday and then play a
- 23:25Speaker 1: Monday day game in San Diego is another story, but
- 23:30Speaker 1: that's already what is being discussed. That's how bad the
- 23:33Speaker 1: weather forecast is here in Philadelphia. Hi again, everybody. This
- 23:39Speaker 1: is Tom Hamilton along with Jim Rosenhouse. We have our
- 23:42Speaker 1: good buddy from Baltimore in the booth with us tonight,
- 23:45Speaker 1: Tim Jones, and back at Command Center, Brian Motze. Lineup
- 23:51Speaker 1: cards are being exchanged with the men in blue, or
- 23:54Speaker 1: in this case tonight, the men in black. Junior Valentine,
- 23:58Speaker 1: the home plate umpire tonight. Jordan Baker, the crew chief
- 24:01Speaker 1: at first. Dylan Wilson at second. And Stu Sherwater at third.
- 24:07Speaker 1: There is absolutely no sign of the grounds crew as
- 24:11Speaker 1: the tarp is rolled up. in foul territory, and up
- 24:15Speaker 1: against the grandstand area down the left field line. So
- 24:19Speaker 1: there's no question, we are starting this ballgame in the rain.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Cleveland coming in red hot. They've peeled off six straight wins,
- 24:29Speaker 1: nine out of ten. Their record now 30-22, and they've
- 24:33Speaker 1: opened up a three-and-a-half game lead on the Chicago White
- 24:36Speaker 1: Sox in the AL Central. In the NL East, right
- 24:41Speaker 1: now Atlanta is running away with it. The Braves have
- 24:45Speaker 1: a nine-and-a-half game lead on Philadelphia. The Phillies in second
- 24:50Speaker 1: place at 25-25. The Braves the only team in the
- 24:54Speaker 1: National League East that's above.
- 24:57Speaker 19: 500.
- 24:57Speaker 1: And Philly was ten games under.
- 25:01Speaker 10: 500.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Fired their manager, and they have clawed their way back
- 25:06Speaker 1: to the break-even mark. Here at Citizens Bank Park, this
- 25:13Speaker 1: is one of the great baseball parks in all of baseball. Normally,
- 25:18Speaker 1: it's as an electric and atmosphere as any park in baseball.
- 25:23Speaker 1: When you talk about electric atmospheres, you're two top ballparks
- 25:28Speaker 1: when you get a consensus from most baseball people are
- 25:33Speaker 1: San Diego and Philadelphia when it comes to electricity, sellout crowds,
- 25:39Speaker 1: fan engagement. Those two seem to be at the top
- 25:44Speaker 1: of the leaderboard. We're not going to have that kind
- 25:47Speaker 1: of an atmosphere here tonight because even though they were
- 25:50Speaker 1: expecting mostly sellout crowds this Memorial weekend, the rain is
- 25:56Speaker 1: keeping a lot of people away. As the Phillies take
- 25:59Speaker 1: the field in the rain in their City Connect jerseys.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And to say they're unique would be an understatement. They
- 26:09Speaker 1: have some kind of shade of blue for half the jersey.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And then they've got a darker blue below it. Black pants,
- 26:20Speaker 1: some white trim, some yellow trim.
- 26:23Speaker 4: It..
- 26:25Speaker 1: It's unique. Cleveland's in their road gray uniforms with the
- 26:29Speaker 1: navy blue and the red trim. Here at Citizens Bank Park.
- 26:34Speaker 1: This park opened up in 2004. The dimensions read like this.
- 26:38Speaker 1: 330 down the right field line. It is 369 to
- 26:40Speaker 1: right center. 401 to dead center.
- 26:42Speaker 4: It is..
- 26:42Speaker 1: 374 to the gap in left center, and then 329
- 26:56Speaker 1: down the left field line. The wall, well, in right
- 27:01Speaker 1: and right center, it's 13 feet 3 inches. Straightaway center,
- 27:05Speaker 1: it's just 6 feet high. Then in parts of left field,
- 27:11Speaker 1: it's 10 1⁄2 feet high up to 19 feet high
- 27:16Speaker 1: just to the left of straightaway center. A ballpark that
- 27:21Speaker 1: seats nearly 43,000, and normally most of those seats are filled.
- 27:27Speaker 1: They've got the dark blue seats in this beautiful ballpark.
- 27:31Speaker 1: It's in essence a three-deck affair. You've got the upper
- 27:36Speaker 1: deck that does have a bit of a divide to it,
- 27:39Speaker 1: but the three decks start in the left field corner,
- 27:42Speaker 1: work their way around the home plate, down the right
- 27:45Speaker 1: field line, out into right center, and then two decks
- 27:49Speaker 1: succeeding out in left and left center. One of the
- 27:52Speaker 1: best pitchers in baseball this season on the hill tonight
- 27:55Speaker 1: for Philly. His name? Christopher Sanchez. He comes in here
- 28:01Speaker 1: having pitched 29 and two-thirds consecutive scoreless innings. 6'6, 202, 29.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Mid-90s sinker, slider change. Aniel Martinez leads off tonight's first pitch.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Up high, ball one. Underway in Philadelphia. 58 degrees, the
- 28:24Speaker 1: game time temp. Sanchez from the third base side of
- 28:30Speaker 1: the rubber delivers, and it's inside corner, a delayed call,
- 28:36Speaker 1: and it evens the count at one ball and one strike.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez. The wind and pitch to Martinez, and he
- 28:50Speaker 1: foul tips it into the catcher's mitt. One ball, two strikes.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Angel Martinez batting. 256, nine homers, 26 RBIs. Cleveland with
- 29:02Speaker 1: a lineup tonight that has six right-handed bats in it.
- 29:06Speaker 1: The pitch, swing, and a miss. Got him to chase
- 29:10Speaker 1: down and in. And Sanchez with a strikeout on a
- 29:14Speaker 1: changeup to start tonight's ballgame. And his changeup, about as
- 29:19Speaker 1: good as any changeup in the game. He throws his
- 29:24Speaker 1: changeup 38% of the time, and teams are batting 148
- 29:28Speaker 1: off that changeup. Jose Ramirez in the two-hole. He'll bat right-handed.
- 29:36Speaker 1: The wind-end pitch, and it's swung on, drilled. a left field.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Marsh reaches up, makes the catch just before he got
- 29:44Speaker 1: to the track. Hard hit, but out number two. Brandon
- 29:48Speaker 1: Marsh is in left. Justin Crawford's in center. And Adolis
- 29:54Speaker 1: Garcia in right. On the dirt, Bryce Harper. At first,
- 29:58Speaker 1: Bryson Stott at second. Trey Turner at short, Alec Bohm
- 30:03Speaker 1: at third, and J.T. Riamuto the catcher. Nice hand for
- 30:07Speaker 1: the longtime Philadelphia Philly. Reese Hoskins stepping in. Two outs,
- 30:12Speaker 1: no score, first inning. And he checks on a pitch
- 30:15Speaker 1: down and in, and he went around on the appeal,
- 30:18Speaker 1: chased the slider. Reese Hoskins spent six years here in Philadelphia,
- 30:28Speaker 1: had some of his best years. He takes outside a ball,
- 30:33Speaker 1: another changeup, and that'll even the count at 1-1. This
- 30:38Speaker 1: is about as good a hitter's park as there is
- 30:41Speaker 1: in the game, but tonight, cold, rainy, 58 degrees, bit
- 30:45Speaker 1: of a breeze from the right field to left field corner.
- 30:49Speaker 1: The next pitch, waved at, and the count now quickly
- 30:53Speaker 1: goes to a ball and two strikes. Sanchez comes in
- 30:59Speaker 1: a record of 5-2, best ERA in the National League, 182.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Now the kick and the 1-2 pitch. Swing and a miss,
- 31:10Speaker 1: struck him out on a changeup. And so he's now
- 31:13Speaker 1: gone 30 and two-thirds consecutive innings without giving up a
- 31:18Speaker 1: run as the Guardians go in order and the Phillies
- 31:21Speaker 1: come to bat.

- 33:16Speaker 1: Gavin Williams on the hill for Cleveland tonight. Trey Turner,
- 33:20Speaker 1: the shortstop, leads off. No score. Righty-righty, and the first
- 33:24Speaker 1: pitch hit high in the air. Fairly deep right center.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Called for by P.D. Helpen as he gets to the
- 33:30Speaker 1: warning track. Trey Turner came in batting 239, one pitch,
- 33:35Speaker 1: one out. That's right, Petey helping. He's in center field tonight,
- 33:41Speaker 1: flanked by Stephen Kwan and Lefton. Angel Martinez is in right.
- 33:47Speaker 1: Reese Hoskins, he's at first. Travis Pazana at second. Brian
- 33:53Speaker 1: Rocchio at short. Jose Ramirez at third. Austin Hedges catching.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Here's Kyle Schwarber back in the lineup. The DH takes
- 34:01Speaker 1: a heater strike. Gavin Williams, 6'6, 250, 26 years of age,
- 34:08Speaker 1: mid to upper 90s, fastball sinker, cutter, plus the curve
- 34:12Speaker 1: and slider. The wind and the pitch to Schwarberg. And
- 34:17Speaker 1: it moves his back foot down and in one and one.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Schwarber had a stomach bug. Knocked him out of the
- 34:24Speaker 1: Phillies lineup for three games. They had yesterday off, but
- 34:28Speaker 1: he missed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. What a start for the
- 34:34Speaker 1: Ohio native. The pitch. And he cuts and misses. That
- 34:39Speaker 1: was a good looking breaking ball. One and two to count.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Schwarber with nine home runs recently in an eight-game stretch.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Now the 1-2. Down low, 2-2. You know who else
- 34:57Speaker 1: did that? Albert Bell. Back when he should have been
- 35:00Speaker 1: the American League MVP in 1995. Nine homers in an
- 35:05Speaker 1: eight-game stretch. The 2-2. And strike three called. Got him
- 35:12Speaker 1: looking at a slider. Schwarber with a slow walk back
- 35:17Speaker 1: to the first base dugout. And that is out number two.
- 35:22Speaker 1: That'll bring up Bryce Harper. He has started to heat up, batting. 267,
- 35:27Speaker 1: a dozen homers, 31 RBIs. Gavin Williams leads the American
- 35:33Speaker 1: League and wins with six. He is fourth in strikeouts.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Coming in a 6-3 mark, an ERA of. 367. Now
- 35:44Speaker 1: the wind and the pitch. And it's swung on, fouled upstairs.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Strike one. Williams in ten starts, no complete games, but
- 35:55Speaker 1: six innings to start. He averages 11 strikeouts, three walks
- 36:00Speaker 1: per nine innings. Now the kick in the 0-1. A
- 36:06Speaker 1: swing and a ground ball toward first by the diving Hoskins.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Into foul ground off that sidewall it kicks. And a
- 36:13Speaker 1: double for Bryce Harper, his 10th. He didn't hit it
- 36:16Speaker 1: that hard, but he placed it perfectly down that first baseline.
- 36:22Speaker 1: So he has the two-out double here in the first.
- 36:25Speaker 1: Alec Boehm coming to the plate. Boy, is he on
- 36:29Speaker 1: a roll. Alec Boehm. As the right-handed hitting third baseman.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Alec Bohm, the first 35 games of the year, batted
- 36:46Speaker 1: 159 with a home run and a 433 OPS. For
- 36:52Speaker 1: 35 games. The pitch. And it's in there. Now, Alec Bohm,
- 36:59Speaker 1: in the last 11 games, batting 405. Four homers, eight
- 37:05Speaker 1: extra base hits. Oh, yeah, and an OPS of over 1,200.
- 37:10Speaker 1: The pitch outside a ball, one and one. This lineup
- 37:18Speaker 1: can thump. Now, they got off to a terrible start,
- 37:21Speaker 1: and it cost Rob Thompson his job as manager. Don
- 37:25Speaker 1: Mattingly is the interim manager for the rest of this season.
- 37:32Speaker 1: No score, runner at second. Two down in the first.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Williams pitch. Outside. Corner strike. And they count one and two.
- 37:42Speaker 1: But the Phillies were nine and 19. And that's when
- 37:47Speaker 1: Dave Dombrowski fired Rob Thompson. Under Don Mattingly, the club
- 37:53Speaker 1: 16 and six. Down to one, two. Checked on a
- 37:58Speaker 1: breaking ball away. Two and two. That's that hard slider.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Philly at one point in April lost 10 in a row.
- 38:08Speaker 1: It's just hard to fathom a club this good could
- 38:11Speaker 1: lose 10 in a row. Now the 2-2. And it
- 38:18Speaker 1: missed down low, threw him another curveball. Don't count. The
- 38:24Speaker 1: thing you have to be careful of here is you
- 38:26Speaker 1: don't nibble and get too careful or you can really
- 38:30Speaker 1: play into their hands. When you've got rust to bust,
- 38:37Speaker 1: use PB Blaster, Cleveland original since 1957. PB Blaster, work
- 38:43Speaker 1: it like a pro. A look back at second. The payoff.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Swing and a miss. Gavin Williams strikes out a pair
- 38:52Speaker 1: after one in the city of brotherly love. We are
- 38:56Speaker 1: scoreless on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 39:07Speaker 18: News Radio 570 WKBN Youngstown.
- 39:16Speaker 1: David Frye DH-ing hitting cleanup tonight. An 0-for-13 slide leads
- 39:21Speaker 1: off the second no score. The left-hander Christopher Sanchez delivers.
- 39:27Speaker 1: And it's inside corner strike. Sanchez was the runner-up to
- 39:32Speaker 1: Paul Skeens last year for the National League Cy Young
- 39:36Speaker 1: Award fact he got every second place vote now the
- 39:43Speaker 1: 0-1 Swung and ripped into left. There's a base hit.
- 39:48Speaker 1: David Fry breaks that 0 for 13. That'll bring up
- 39:51Speaker 1: Travis Pazana. Left on left. Now, if you're wondering about
- 39:58Speaker 1: lefties against the lefty, Sanchez has a 145 batting average
- 40:06Speaker 1: against him when he faces a left-handed hitter. In other words,
- 40:10Speaker 1: good luck. No score second inning. The set. The pitch.
- 40:18Speaker 1: And a punt attempt missed. Strike one. Travis Bazzano batting 288.
- 40:24Speaker 1: A couple of homers. Nine RBIs. A 409 on-base percentage.
- 40:31Speaker 1: First four innings. It's the Conrad score four. Win four
- 40:35Speaker 1: new tires. Contestant tonight, Dana Gaudio of Highland Heights. Now
- 40:43Speaker 1: the 0-1. Lozano waves at the slider, 0-2. So Dana
- 40:50Speaker 1: Gaudio trying to win the four Bridgestone tires thanks to
- 40:54Speaker 1: Conrad's Tire Express and Total Car Care. Visit econrads.com to enter.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Not a great night to try to win tires against
- 41:03Speaker 1: this guy. Now the 0-2 from Sanchez to Lozano. Down
- 41:10Speaker 1: and away, yank the slider, one ball, two strikes. A
- 41:14Speaker 1: 5-2 record, a 182 ERA, 11 strikeouts, two walks per nine,
- 41:23Speaker 1: and coming off a complete game shutout five days ago
- 41:28Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh. The pitch, swung on a chopper to first.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Harper in on the grass, goes to second one. That's
- 41:34Speaker 1: all they'll get. So David Fry forced out. Lozano with
- 41:40Speaker 1: seven steals, caught one time, is on at first. One down,
- 41:45Speaker 1: second inning. No score. Boy, his shutout five days ago
- 41:54Speaker 1: against Pittsburgh was magnificent. One, he only made 108 pitches
- 42:00Speaker 1: in the complete game, six-hit shutout. Struck out 13 and
- 42:06Speaker 1: didn't walk a batter. Now the pitch to Brian Rocchio,
- 42:11Speaker 1: batting right-handed, leans him back for ball one. Switch hitting
- 42:15Speaker 1: shortstop moved up from ninth to sixth because Petey Halpin's
- 42:20Speaker 1: in the lineup tonight. He'll bat ninth. De Lauder, Schneeman, Manzardo,
- 42:27Speaker 1: Bailey getting the night off, at least at the outset.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Toss over to first and back standing easily is Bozzana.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Normally when Tampa Bay calls you and says, hey, we'd
- 42:40Speaker 1: like to trade you a pitcher, you immediately hang up
- 42:47Speaker 1: Thankfully for Philly, they did not. The pitch. And it's
- 42:53Speaker 1: in there to even the count. Look, Tampa Bay knows
- 42:56Speaker 1: as much about pitching as any organization in the game.
- 43:00Speaker 1: So if they want to trade a pitcher, you go, hmm,
- 43:02Speaker 1: what's wrong with them? They traded this guy to Philly
- 43:06Speaker 1: for Curtis Meade. Great trade for Philly. Hazana dancing off first.
- 43:14Speaker 1: The pitch down low, two and one. I mean, you
- 43:18Speaker 1: can't make a better trade than that one. And that
- 43:23Speaker 1: happened in November of 2019. This is the seventh year
- 43:30Speaker 1: for Christopher Sanchez here in Philly. The pitch down low.
- 43:36Speaker 1: And you wonder, is Pazanas dancing off the bag, distracting
- 43:41Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez? Because now he's 3-1. On the batter, Brian Rocchio,
- 43:48Speaker 1: and Sanchez averages less than two walks per nine innings. Outfield,
- 43:54Speaker 1: medium deep, pretty much straight away. Now the pitch. Outside, corner,
- 44:01Speaker 1: a strike as Rocchio started to toss the bat. Cleveland
- 44:07Speaker 1: in the third base dugout, Philly in the first. Full
- 44:10Speaker 1: count now. Let's see if Pazana is running. J.T. Riomuto,
- 44:15Speaker 1: one of the better throwing catchers in the game, but
- 44:17Speaker 1: this year not as good. 23% have been caught stealing
- 44:22Speaker 1: when he throws. Now the payoff. Pazana stays. Rocio swings
- 44:34Speaker 1: through it. Strikeout number three for Sanchez. Two down. That'll
- 44:39Speaker 1: bring up Stephen Kwan. Stephen Kwan, since he vacated the
- 44:47Speaker 1: leadoff spot in the six games since then, he's had
- 44:53Speaker 1: a 480 on-base percentage. Three hits, nine walks. All six games,
- 45:01Speaker 1: Cleveland won. Toss to first. Pazana about a step off
- 45:05Speaker 1: the bag. Two down, Bozzana at first, no score second inning.
- 45:10Speaker 1: It's been raining since the game began here in Philadelphia.
- 45:14Speaker 1: A light rain, but a bone-chilling rain, 58 degrees and breezy.
- 45:20Speaker 1: The pitch, Kwon looks, takes a strike. Stephen Kwon's played
- 45:27Speaker 1: in nine games against Philly. In those nine games, he's
- 45:31Speaker 1: hit two home runs and batted 371. Tough assignment right now.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Left on left against Sanchez. The next pitch. Waved at
- 45:43Speaker 1: the slider. Looked like he tried to hammer that one.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Maybe to the Delaware River. 0-2 the count. Christopher Sanchez.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Long and lanky. Hands belt high. Sets. Delivers, runner goes,
- 46:05Speaker 1: pitch swung on, fouled out of play. Second deck, third
- 46:09Speaker 1: base side. Well, this is a case here with two
- 46:12Speaker 1: strengths on Kwon. Even if Bozzana gets thrown out, then
- 46:17Speaker 1: you've got Kwon leading off the third. No score, we're
- 46:22Speaker 1: in the second. Sanchez has faced Cleveland one other time
- 46:30Speaker 1: two years ago. Cleveland beat them, scored three in six innings.
- 46:33Speaker 1: The pitch. Swing and a little weak topper to the
- 46:36Speaker 1: grass area at first. Harper just did beat Kwon to
- 46:40Speaker 1: the bag. That was close. We go to the bottom
- 46:43Speaker 1: of the second. No score at Citizens Bank Park on
- 46:47Speaker 1: the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Hey, you mind keeping it down up there, please?
- 46:52Speaker 6: Key Bank will meet you in that I Need New

- 48:35Speaker 18: News Radio 570, WKBN, Youngstown.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Up to the best start of his career, left fielder
- 48:48Speaker 1: Brandon Marsh, a left-handed hitter facing Gavin Williams. Bottom of
- 48:53Speaker 1: the second, no score from Philly. Marsh, third in the
- 48:56Speaker 1: National League with a. 325 batting mark. Four homers, 22 RBIs.
- 49:02Speaker 1: The wind and pitch from Gavin Williams. And it's swung
- 49:05Speaker 1: on and missed. Strike one. When the Guardians win, your
- 49:09Speaker 1: Northeast Ohio Ford dealers donate $ 500 to Cleveland Guardians charities
- 49:15Speaker 1: for youth sports in Cleveland. The pitch. A swing and
- 49:21Speaker 1: a foul at the plate. 0-2. Gavin Williams. His last outing.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Five days to go against the Reds. Went six innings.
- 49:37Speaker 1: Gave up two runs to get the win. Struck out seven.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Didn't walk anybody. Off to a tremendous start. The pitch.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Up high. One ball, two strikes. Gavin Williams now has
- 49:55Speaker 1: gone six innings or more in six straight starts. The 1-2.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Swing and a miss. Got him to chase that backdoor slider.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Third strikeout for Williams. Marsh out number one. Here's Adolis Garcia.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Saw a lot of him with Texas. The last Cleveland
- 50:20Speaker 1: pitcher to go seven straight starts of six innings or more.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Go back to Cy Young winner Shane Bieber four years ago.
- 50:32Speaker 1: The pitch. Outside and low a ball. And Cleveland got
- 50:36Speaker 1: really good starting pitching in Motown. So while the bullpen
- 50:42Speaker 1: was still used, the length the starters are now going
- 50:48Speaker 1: really helping out. That pitch is right on the inside edge. Boy,
- 50:52Speaker 1: he is pounding the corners in the upper 90s. It
- 50:56Speaker 1: was a 97-mile-an-hour sinker. No score. The kick and delivery.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Swing and a foul down the right side. One and
- 51:08Speaker 1: two to count. Gavin Williams has not pitched nearly as
- 51:14Speaker 1: well on the road. ERA of two and a half
- 51:17Speaker 1: at home and just about five on the road. Well, boy,
- 51:20Speaker 1: he looks dominant early here tonight. Now the one-two. Swung on,
- 51:27Speaker 1: a weak bouncing ball to third. Ramirez charges, gloves from
- 51:30Speaker 1: the grass, couldn't get anything on the throw. Kind of
- 51:33Speaker 1: squirted out of his hands. Might be because it's a
- 51:36Speaker 1: wet ball with the rain. You hit it in on
- 51:39Speaker 1: the grass, that'll be an infield hit for Garcia. That'll
- 51:45Speaker 1: bring up Bryson Stott. Left-handed hitting, second baseman. Bryson Stott hitting. 229,
- 51:57Speaker 1: five homers, 23 RBIs. Oh, they're not giving Garcia a single.
- 52:03Speaker 1: They're charging Ramirez with an error. I don't know if
- 52:06Speaker 1: he gets him even if the ball hadn't squirted out
- 52:09Speaker 1: of his hands. The pitch swung on rip. Fairly deep right,
- 52:14Speaker 1: but right there's Martinez to snag it. That is out
- 52:17Speaker 1: number two. So, two down. Runner at first. And the catcher, J.T. Riomuto.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Off to a slow start. Riomuto, right-handed batter. Hitting. 212
- 52:39Speaker 1: with a homer. Eight RBIs. Two down. Runner at first.
- 52:44Speaker 1: No score. Second inning from Philadelphia. The set and delivery.
- 52:50Speaker 1: A swing and a high. Chopper to short. Chest high
- 52:53Speaker 1: hop handle by Rocchio. Flips to second for the inning
- 52:56Speaker 1: ending force. And Gavin Williams looks as good tonight as
- 53:00Speaker 1: he has all year. And he's been good all year.
- 53:03Speaker 1: No score after two.
