- 0:41prompted me, then if I should be saying this on their own, the
- 0:44actual episode itself will prompt me to do all the time and
- 0:47space was very early in 2020. Obviously the whole covid thing
- 0:53kicked off and we're all sad at home and at one point it wasn't
- 0:58clear what the pathway of this was going to be and it looked
- 1:02really grim and it made me kind of evaluate Some would probably
- 1:09argue, I should have slightly different priorities but maybe
- 1:12if Al you ate, what I actually wanted to do and the one thing
- 1:15I'd never really done was to watch all of Doctor Who in
- 1:18order. So are my wife I'm going to do
- 1:21it. I might as well.
- 1:23Let's do a podcast because I've been out of the podcast going
- 1:25for a while because I've taken time out because the the family
- 1:29and stuff and I just decided I'm going to do this.
- 1:34So I messaged Ian I said what do you think?
- 1:38I sent him the little promo video.
- 1:42They did for Matt Smith's first series and it starts to him
- 1:45saying all of time and space every Star that ever was, where
- 1:50do you want to start? And he's like, yeah, let's do
- 1:53it. And I've been thinking about for
- 1:55ages thinking, oh yeah, we call it this, but call it that he's
- 1:58like yeah, let's call it all the time and space was like, but
- 2:01yeah, of course, it's such a brilliant idea.
- 2:04So yeah, it's just, it's worked out really nicely because he is
- 2:09just really funny witty. Just a really just a lovely guy
- 2:16and we and I would just seem to hit it off really.
- 2:19Well, we've never actually met in the flesh.
- 2:21You've done like loads. And loads of podcasts go.
- 2:23We've never actually met face-to-face.
- 2:27So I would be nice to do. What may be one one time but
- 2:31yeah, it's just been a great Fun experience meeting.
- 2:36Lots of different people and just chat in.
- 2:39And, but that going back to my original point.
- 2:43So I started blathering on it, felt like it was quite
- 2:48therapeutic. At the time, it was, we were in
- 2:50a locked away, in our houses, we couldn't go out, so it was A
- 2:56chance to socialize, just chat and just it really it did.
- 3:01So you know, wonders for my mental health, just being able
- 3:04to chat while I did a hamster. That's exactly.
- 3:09The reason I did hamster. It was it's all made to the
- 3:13beginning of the pandemic. I am a social creature.
- 3:16I couldn't see any of my friends ever, very isolated.
- 3:20I just want to talk to people. Yeah.
- 3:23And you don't know where that's going to end up.
- 3:24Like if you told me, Me, I would.
- 3:28Be in a relationship with somebody.
- 3:29I'll podcast with you like my best friends now.
- 3:33Yeah scoffs my Social Circle would have increased this March.
- 3:38Yeah it's true. Pick it up our Mike and talking
- 3:40about the horns of nylon. You know, if he mad, wouldn't
- 3:44it? It's classic beauty of it and
- 3:46that's what I love about it. I'm going to drop this into the
- 3:51outside, you know, it's, yeah, it's worth people here.
- 3:54Or what I could say is, welcome back to a hamster with a blunt
- 3:57penknife the Doctor Who commentary podcasts, and that
- 4:00was our little Prelude into ever.
- 4:02So for I am here with the delightful Mark Cochran.
- 4:07Say hello Mark. Hello Mark.
- 4:09So you've just been talking for five minutes into this episode.
- 4:11I have a bit. Yeah, sorry.
- 4:14That's what about like I said. You didn't think that was going
- 4:16in. You could have nothing is
- 4:20excised for total prick. Ian, I love Been binging your
- 4:34podcast and I love that sort of community aspect that you have
- 4:37to the show and something I always try to bring to my poker,
- 4:40so I've done. So yeah it's lovely to hear
- 4:43people's stories obvious all natural Eco.
- 4:46He is isn't it? You kind of get your audience
- 4:48and then on social media you engage with your audience and
- 4:51yeah really starts to cement his self.
- 4:54Yeah you know you got to do what you might find it already.
- 4:58I don't know. Do it all the time.
- 5:00Space meet up, you know. Get everyone together Jesus.
- 5:03Yeah. Can you imagine a while thinking
- 5:05I'm doing our hands too soon? Yeah.
- 5:08Well what I'm going to do is it's going to be on like a big
- 5:10Zoom thing, you know. Okay, that way I think.
- 5:14Wow God yeah. See me and Ian are too tight to
- 5:16pay out for the premium, Zoom. It seemed just Skype that's
- 5:23expensive and after getting the microphone and all this, I tell
- 5:26me about up all the gear, no idea right now, Mark is in front
- 5:33of me. With this extremely impressive
- 5:35looking microphone headphones The Works.
- 5:37He looks like a professional DJ. I'm sitting here with a Pop-Tart
- 5:41a cup of tea but who does the better podcast?
- 5:45I don't know.
- 6:00We're here to talk about part 4 of the all-time classic, the
- 6:04horns of nine-month. Glad you said that for a second.
- 6:07Are you look like you didn't know why you were there?
- 6:11It doesn't say very much to confuse me.
- 6:13Now, I was like, oh, why are we here?
- 6:15Oh yeah, hell, am I doing here? I'm just having too much fun
- 6:18chatting with you, Joe. This is just the commentary is
- 6:20just, you know, there's the icing on the cake, but we
- 6:27probably should go into have so Focus.
- 6:29Really thinks the night run today.
- 6:31Exactly. Yeah.
- 6:35The rest of the day, but Ramana the doctor and those cute.
- 6:41Little kitty Winx are in terrible danger.
- 6:43They really are. She's stuck on Christoph.
- 6:46Now, she's about to be menaced by enormous, balls, and fabulous
- 6:56horns. Yes, and Area.
- 7:00Victoria water-filled slightly Faye dad in a gown.
- 7:05That was the most understated thing.
- 7:07You could have possibly have said, yes, pretty good.
- 7:13Don't you think he's good? I think is really good.
- 7:16Yeah, you know, he's it's a bit of a fact that's part.
- 7:19Is that mr. Exposition from the alien
- 7:21planet. Yeah.
- 7:23Yeah. By age as a great job with it,
- 7:25with what he's been given. Yeah, beryllium Lovin by all
- 7:28accounts. This is the end of season.
- 7:29And 17 is it's the end of an era, the end of grain Williams.
- 7:34However it shouldn't have been. I'll July shot.
- 7:37By the way. I never did ask you though
- 7:38earlier. Yeah I do.
- 7:40I love Douglas Adams. I think he was such a genius You
- 7:44know, I've been doing commentaries on The Hitchhiker's
- 7:46Guide to the Galaxy with soil, love it.
- 7:49That's been an absolute Joy, underneath the production value
- 7:52on that things, really surprised me.
- 7:54Yeah, first time it was amazing. Hmm.
- 7:57Now, I love Douglas Adams. It's just a shame, he died.
- 8:00So young, you're such a Visionary.
- 8:02Not just, you know, obviously it was a great width but he was a
- 8:07very well-read. He knew quite a lot about
- 8:09science. He was I think I'm sure I've
- 8:12seen an interview. You with Stephen Fry, where he
- 8:16said it was either him or Douglas Adams, he bought the
- 8:18first Apple computer in the UK. Wow, they're both really into
- 8:23their technology and he liked a lot of the Geniuses, like,
- 8:27Boeing and others predicted. A lot of the stuff that we now
- 8:31take for granted years years before it came along, by all
- 8:35accounts. He was really Heather, like the
- 8:38time with technology wasn't in, you know, that sequence in.
- 8:43I think it's the Step aside of hitchhikers about the Babel Fish
- 8:47and then it goes into the conversation about God and man,
- 8:50yeah, I think that might be my favorite piece of writing and
- 8:53science fiction ever, that just that little segment.
- 8:57Mmm. It's the autonomously.
- 8:59Very smart, very funny, and very thoughtful.
- 9:01Yeah. And then, there's the whole
- 9:03ecology thing that he got into as well.
- 9:05He did something called last chance to see Adam if you were
- 9:07aware of that. No.
- 9:09So it was a book and I think they did a radio series on.
- 9:13It with a wildlife expert called Mark our Dean.
- 9:18And then, Stephen Fry did a TV version of it years later and
- 9:24it's all about incredible species that are close to
- 9:29extinction and trying to track them down.
- 9:32And obviously trying to make people aware of their plight in
- 9:36order to try and help to save them.
- 9:38Brilliant. Such a great man, like and
- 9:42circle it. Stop sahu because obviously his
- 9:46three Doctor Who stories are fairly.
- 9:48Well, celebrate is. Do you think he was a good
- 9:51choice of script editor? Oh, well, he was Notorious for
- 9:57not sticking to deadlines as a writer and I'm not entirely sure
- 10:01he was possibly the most organized of people, but he had
- 10:05a really good vision. And as much as people like to
- 10:09talk about season, 18, being a season where hard science comes
- 10:12in and it needs to Be much more believable.
- 10:15I think Douglas had an eye for Science and put bringing a
- 10:23degree of believability to the science of the the show or beer
- 10:27in life tend to think is a slightly more fun package.
- 10:33So, let's not talk about fun packages.
- 11:01So much fun. You very much for inviting me
- 11:04on. I should have said that it's
- 11:06been a pleasure. You know, I'll just sit here
- 11:09with fully weight of the invites beyond all time and space.
- 11:12Alright, is there for you? Maybe we will have you on, I'll
- 11:17give you a little insight into how much of a sad owner died am.
- 11:21I don't know if it, I might have some kind of neuro thing going
- 11:25on, but I went through a phase where I was like I need to
- 11:29organize. So I've got guests lined up.
- 11:33Rap till season 10 and we're only halfway through season.
- 11:35You're joking. Yeah, I haven't got next week,
- 11:39so it's yeah, yeah. You're doing about 30 podcast in
- 11:43a week? Whereas, you know, where ambling
- 11:45along you might get to season 8 by 2030.
- 11:48If we're lucky, well, if you haven't got anyone for invasion
- 11:51of the dinosaurs, I'm there for it.
- 11:53All right. Okay, I'll have to look through
- 11:55and see what we got, but we do, we like to mix people up as
- 11:58well, so we like to get people from different podcasts button
- 12:00together. So, oh, Pollinate.
- 12:03Sorry. - yeah. Can you say she'll have really
- 12:06handsome? No.
- 12:06Yeah. How are you?
- 12:07We take the best. That's why I've offered you to.
- 12:10Come on. Come on.
- 12:14You're Gonna Go Far in life. You probably already have a
- 12:20were, here we go. We've got the Tom's sparkling
- 12:24eyes again. So I think this is the episode
- 12:28with all the great acting moments in are absolutely entire
- 12:32city. Now look, will you do me a favor
- 12:34please? Because I've got a surprise for
- 12:36you. It were this is not the first
- 12:39commentary I've done for the horns of nine.
- 12:42Bob, what are you wait till now to say that Jack I could you
- 12:55know it's basically how we outed could we weren't we weren't
- 12:59going to be recording for a long time.
- 13:00So you came out on that podcast. Came out years ago, right?
- 13:04Honestly, I had no idea. You were gay.
- 13:08Oh, really. Someone said to me the other
- 13:11day, can you believe this? Oh really?
- 13:15What does your wife think about that?
- 13:17Well, I'm sorry. Well, couldn't hold it together.
- 13:20I know why do you wear those clothes life?
- 13:22Someone else, or you can tell him.
- 13:24Please my friend Dan I shan't mention is turning my friend.
- 13:32Dan. He's such a lovely guy as if
- 13:35campers Christmas and very, very gay, his mum and dad had
- 13:43absolutely no idea whatsoever. So he had to break it to them,
- 13:48it was quite a surprise for them.
- 13:51I've got a mate called Luke, right?
- 13:53Yeah, so sorry we will talk about the holds.
- 13:55No, that's okay. He's covered this already and
- 13:58it's just Ramona running around some tubes.
- 14:01And he's camps Christmas like you say.
- 14:04Yeah and everyone was convinced he was gay.
- 14:08His parents were so disappointed when he wasn't, he turns out
- 14:11Eddie Eddie womanly hips as well, the hips.
- 14:15And they will always definitely something just because your Camp
- 14:17doesn't necessarily mean, you're getting.
- 14:19He's bucking the trend. Yeah, love to Papa.
- 14:22I never said they were absolutely.
- 14:25Now, he's got three kids and a beautiful, French wife.
- 14:27Yeah. Any word from the Lord.
- 14:31I mean, he's taking everybody is not a steward knows the pilot.
- 14:37Oh my God. He's never gonna wear this old
- 14:43Toms playing with his group Attica normalizer again.
- 14:46And so we just missed a bit where Soul deed starts laughing.
- 14:49He does that crazy moon Oh, look out.
- 15:00The point for telling you about the other commentary.
- 15:03Is that in that one? I did something I'd like to do
- 15:05it with you. I put well I mean it's quite a
- 15:10different role play with heard you're gifted?
- 15:12Oh well I like a bit of role-playing.
- 15:13Yeah. Okay so when the time comes yeah
- 15:16one of us gets to play Ramona. Gets to play soldi and it's
- 15:20during his whole deficit know who you look like, oh, I'll be
- 15:26Ramana. She gets all the best lines as
- 15:29well as you know, it does. Yeah, stop it.
- 15:33Okay. Okay.
- 15:35All right. I'll probably go with the lines
- 15:36wrong but it shall be the apotheosis of your podcasting
- 15:40experience. This is where it all went wrong,
- 15:45that Mike Huckabee's, jump the shark of your demons and he's
- 15:49really lost his shit. Hey we're talking all over every
- 15:51water-filled here. It seems narnun is gone.
- 15:56Yeah. Oh, you look shocked out and
- 15:59they cheese, but I do think these sort of wrote this or one
- 16:03or two seen roles when you come in and give a great blob of
- 16:07exposition. Yeah, our thankless and yet he
- 16:10does it very he does. He's really good.
- 16:12Ennis So he's already good. I acting in this role to tell us
- 16:19that the night I want to have back been doing this across the
- 16:22Galaxy. Mmm, taking gullible those
- 16:25bastards. Yeah, from missing them, the
- 16:27world, what would be your bait? Ian chips, probably and I really
- 16:37I've got it. I've got it.
- 16:38All right, I'll mention on the 91 so I'll just get my.
- 16:40Okay, here we go. Oh look a bit less impressive.
- 16:44Actually, when he comes down the tunnel tonight, I'm gonna
- 16:48promise you all the missing episodes of Doctor Who.
- 16:52Yeah. If you get me, some Hamachi
- 16:54site, it's a deal. You go see hazy but don't don't
- 16:58worry about bringing back all of them but there's there's you
- 17:03know one or two that aren't I Don't worry, we haven't got the
- 17:06space pirates. I reckon that might be one that
- 17:10people look on differently. If we ever got it back a bit of
- 17:13enemy of the world soar. Yeah, absolutely.
- 17:16I got that coming up next in our recording schedule.
- 17:19Anime that I think the smugglers in the Savages might be
- 17:23reappraised. Yes.
- 17:25Absolutely yeah. Yeah that's not see been with
- 17:28his top off. Wow.
- 17:32Excuse me, Polly's. Beautiful as well.
- 17:33She is gorgeous. Not matter.
- 17:36She's lovely. Radical.
- 17:38We don't, not Polly. I'm Anika Wills.
- 17:40Right? Nice, she take you to the
- 17:42hottest nightclub in town. No.
- 17:45She's ready to be local. So I was a fan event.
- 17:48Oh, very kind stop for a photo and a changes.
- 17:51Yeah, very nice lady. I saw a video of a in her house
- 17:55with a load of maths pre power of the doctor.
- 17:58Did you see that do? There are no sounds cool.
- 18:01I don't think she'd ever watched it for a couple of years or
- 18:04whatever she said, Oh my God. Sucking each one dry.
- 18:11This script is full of double entendre Sino, absolute filth,
- 18:14you get the discontinuity guy. When they were pointing all
- 18:17these lines out, this section must have been enormous.
- 18:23That's what he said. This is my most carry on
- 18:28commentary yet, you know. Yeah, I'm so sorry, that's all
- 18:31right. Is there any other kind of
- 18:32anyway go to love that though? People come on in.
- 18:36Get in the spirit. This you know how absolutely
- 18:38Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:40Wait, and we're not shy of a bit of Filth on our show, to be fair
- 18:45to drop in here and there appear to be held with dr.
- 18:48Ho, there's somebody phallic monsters and lines.
- 18:51I'm glad they laid him out that way up because I don't want to
- 18:54see that ripping his pants. Again Jesus, she touched his
- 18:57face that. I think that that it was going
- 18:58to collapse collapse. Again.
- 19:00I think, you know, I think this is one of the few scenes in this
- 19:03story that does have a bit of tension in it because her sort
- 19:06of going out to a corpse my that, yeah, creepy.
- 19:09Then she's here. Of our friends have been frozen
- 19:12and yeah. Ready for the to be eaten and
- 19:14here comes great crowden. This is great he holds up her
- 19:20hands to say. Here's your tribute.
- 19:22Yeah and they take the wind right out of his sails.
- 19:26He appears a bit rubbish with a gun there.
- 19:29She just kind of points it and well she's a bit rubbish
- 19:32injections how dare I what how many of you seen now in?
- 19:40Terms of sort of facial reacting to camera.
- 19:43Yes. Who does bear G crowden here or
- 19:46Derek Jacobi and Utopia when he turns into the master.
- 19:51Oh that's a tough one to call. I think I think Graham crowns.
- 19:57Eyes are about to pop out of his head is almost up there with Tom
- 20:01Baker on that particular scene. I thought, I bet even Tom Ferry,
- 20:05has been better. This is just a great moment.
- 20:07He opens the egg. Oh no, it was late.
- 20:08And I want to cut it when I can very quickly.
- 20:13O my prophetic soul but on the whole you right, he's taking it
- 20:18seriously. Even it's that one or two
- 20:20moments there. The one that is odd but other
- 20:25than that yeah, he's taking it seriously.
- 20:27What do you do over the break down ever?
- 20:28So one really good. Are you with a great tribute to
- 20:32the libel? I know that's a very strange
- 20:35thing to be. He said Does he know?
- 20:47You just so alien, isn't he? He was like, you say, he was
- 20:51born to play that part. There's not really any acting
- 20:53required. Just turns up, you know, like
- 20:57you do when you go to these conventions.
- 20:58Yeah, and they have, you know, like Prestige name's Katie,
- 21:02Manning Sophie aldred are your arms for the hundredth time.
- 21:06Yeah. And you've got 91 on the left.
- 21:11Is now ready for his photo call. Yeah, besides that there are a
- 21:15few of these extras, you know? All that Platinum guy back for
- 21:22nothing. It looks very cheap, just think
- 21:24it's there's a lot of tubing I beg your pardon.
- 21:32Allah is taking his hat off. Yeah.
- 21:35What's his name on the forget? What my God.
- 21:37It's gonna be a spy. So don't have like a zebra.
- 21:41He's possibly the youngest person on the entire planet.
- 21:44I think he might be you though. Yeah.
- 21:47That I got these. These, I don't want to make the
- 21:50inference, but they've got all these girls.
- 21:52Hmm, I'm Hannah, what? There's no girls on a planet is
- 21:56no. Have to make news gone on
- 21:59somehow. But this whole sequence as a
- 22:03live video right there shows you sort of desperate we're getting.
- 22:07We're canines, leading them out, the maze-like, the dr.
- 22:10Romano and a whole group of kids and canines just very slowly and
- 22:14they're all following him from Corridor to Corridor and then
- 22:17use it sort of going to do. Yeah, there's not much haste as
- 22:23they're just so, you're clapping.
- 22:25They're all very aware. They've only got, like, two
- 22:27meters of corridor than you have to stop.
- 22:29This to me is the Battle of ranskahov colos of this season,
- 22:35because I don't think I've kodos was supposed to be the finale of
- 22:40season, right? Okay.
- 22:41It was resolution. Yeah, it's called resolution and
- 22:48obviously, this wasn't meant to be the climax of 79, so this
- 22:53being the penultimate story. It could afford to be a little
- 22:56accidents. Conclusion, because the the
- 23:00biggie was coming, you know, Time Lord, Business Time, known
- 23:03criminals, Cambridge. And it all went to pot because
- 23:09of a place. Cool clock.
- 23:11Yeah, blowing up Benjamin on hang on.
- 23:16Let's see if she'll up the weather.
- 23:17Yeah, my wife of her PhD actually uni.
- 23:22Is she really? Yeah, she is eccentric as she
- 23:25seems. She said I didn't get to meet
- 23:28her but she doesn't. She's one of those people
- 23:31doesn't appear to have aged today.
- 23:33Did you see her the Sarah, Jane Adventures?
- 23:35Yeah, she was amazing. Incredible but soup, which is a
- 23:39no Welly boots. And she goes, wait for me.
- 23:43Oh, she's amazing. She was following him because
- 23:51she was in. She can imagine floella
- 23:56Benjamin, being short in Resurrection of the Daleks, some
- 23:59thinkable, what was he thinking? Killing of Chloe Ashcroft, life.
- 24:06It's quite shocking at the time, it was.
- 24:08All right, we're gonna let the kids watch it this way because
- 24:10Chloe asked me, never sleep again.
- 24:20I will deliver. Plot Exposition going on here
- 24:24that hiding behind that Shield very unconvincing.
- 24:27Yes, it's a lumber past. The fact she's wearing that
- 24:31bright red coat and it shines straight through, not really
- 24:35helping very much again. We've already established, they
- 24:38can't see anything from peripherals.
- 24:40So you know, it's fine. It's Lala walls choice to wear
- 24:43that that you know the whole red red rag to a ball thingy.
- 24:47Yeah, I work so well. I mean it does but it does make
- 24:50them blind but yeah. Yeah.
- 24:55Oh, this is the bit. That way it goes, is I'll Sound
- 24:58the Alarm, don't worry Bert, the aliens over there for all the
- 25:03good work. He does in the exposition and
- 25:06just being a really, you know, sympathetic character his death
- 25:10scene. It's not the greatest.
- 25:13You got to say, well, I mean, in a story full of memorable guest,
- 25:17seems the copilot's trousers. I mean, we've got the best death
- 25:22to come when that's great. Well, yes, quite quite How can
- 25:26you tell it that it didn't get size line though.
- 25:30Today I have caught an everlasting cold.
- 25:33So is it true that he thought that they were going for a
- 25:37rehearsal take. But that, that was the take.
- 25:41What? Who John Bailey now when, when
- 25:44somebody dies G crowd, and thought there was a rehearsal,
- 25:49I'm sure I've heard they're told is true or not.
- 25:51What great story. I can we go.
- 25:55So again then love. That's it.
- 25:56Oh, that's it. Oh shit,
- 26:14isn't he? And that wonderful was no, Jane.
- 26:17Does Vince key. Oh yeah.
- 26:20Oh she called Jaden it isn't she?
- 26:21Yeah, Sophie And I'll never forget when Stephanie, Cole's
- 26:30character says to Jay, was it? Faith is the leap between the
- 26:34logical and the completely bloody ridiculous.
- 26:41It could be a reason why we're talking about waiting for God
- 26:44instead of the horns and I'm on it, possibly possibly.
- 26:49We've been invited to the 91 disco.
- 26:50Now we haven't talked about at all is the normal voices which I
- 26:55think are great. Yes, yeah.
- 26:58It's kind of very electronically treated they pop back, you know,
- 27:02for an audio appearance in season fear.
- 27:05That's right. Yeah.
- 27:08What do you think about there? Well, I feel like every it's
- 27:15true, you know, I'm going to my room with some aggressive man.
- 27:22I'll come over a bit peculiar, you know?
- 27:25Yeah. You know, you have this best
- 27:30deal side to you and I didn't use you pulled it out at me, try
- 27:34other thing that I was, right. Ramona coming out of an egg now.
- 27:39Now there's no creation myths going on here.
- 27:44Doctor, what are you playing at you.
- 27:46Oh shit. They are tall one.
- 27:49They they are they on high heels or so.
- 27:52There are Mega stacked heels. Yeah.
- 27:55Oh Seth got here we go. Do something useful.
- 27:59So, it's like that. It's down the lime on.
- 28:07I thought that's the one, but they're, you know, that
- 28:09wonderful thing that somebody put on Twitter.
- 28:12Did you watch it there? How many 91's disco ringing?
- 28:14Oh yeah, it's amazing. How many know what have you
- 28:19seen? It's funny.
- 28:25I've got an image EV you driving around with the windows down and
- 28:28stereo blasting that out. You don't need to.
- 28:31That's just downstairs in the living room.
- 28:33Yeah, fair enough. He's been put on notice, boy
- 28:35bands. Recently, I've been bottled in a
- 28:38household. This is a nice size.
- 28:44K9 prob, ah, I've got a canine, but It's like this big.
- 28:50I've got K9 Envy with some people.
- 28:53What size isn't everything? Joe and I, but I saw one,
- 28:58there's a fabulous top. So you got working probe eight
- 29:01hours. And I'm not writing by remote
- 29:03control. He does all sorts ding dong.
- 29:07Ding rice that then? Sorry I have heard that rumor is
- 29:11our there's yeah in Allendale in Newcastle I know Carlos story
- 29:18where I was at the weekend is a wonderful daughter who
- 29:20exhibition, right? Yeah, they've got Props from the
- 29:2470s and the 80s. They got a life-size canine in
- 29:27there. They had some costumes from
- 29:29season 17, they had I think it was a one of like the any Theon
- 29:35costumes. Nice.
- 29:37But where we go? Then I'm on be praised.
- 29:39Oh no, here's how many nine months have you seen today, how
- 29:42many diamonds he said he was the only one of his kind.
- 29:55This is the great journey of like, wow.
- 30:03My dreams of Conquest did someone order extra ham you
- 30:12times. You are brought This calamity of
- 30:14poverty, you brought it on yourself, you will die for your
- 30:20interference. Look at you, you got a dealer
- 30:26laugh. At the end.
- 30:28You are fools. You are doing and do
- 30:43Now that's what that's the sort of thing.
- 30:45You don't want your mom to walk in on, you know, it's like you
- 30:50say if you're trying to convince someone to watch Doctor Who
- 30:53there's no wouldn't necessarily be the starting point.
- 30:56But that said, friend of mine many, many moons ago.
- 31:02Now there's a whole bunch of us decided to is a boring Sunday
- 31:07afternoon when over is to his house.
- 31:09There's My now, wife girlfriend at the time and another friend
- 31:14who's a doctor who fan and his girlfriend, and our friend, he's
- 31:18just said, let's watch the chase.
- 31:21They're like, What's that? It's great.
- 31:24It's just brilliant, fun. And put it on.
- 31:26And it was absolutely the most entertaining way to spend a
- 31:30Sunday afternoon. It was so much fun.
- 31:33It's not held up as necessary the greatest episode or story of
- 31:36dr. Of all time but it's just a lot
- 31:38of fun. Go through a small plug now
- 31:42gone. Well because when before Mark
- 31:45and I were in a relationship the were flirting outrageously with
- 31:49each other on Zoom calls. He said oh let's do a video the
- 31:56chase commentary but will dress up.
- 31:59Oh my God I'm not kidding you on YouTube.
- 32:01We've got all six episodes right episode 1 E turned up as the
- 32:05time and space visualizer. That was a point where I knew I
- 32:08was in love. So to he dressed up as an
- 32:11iridium nice in a onesie episode free.
- 32:16He was mummy no absolute for it was a mummy for journey into
- 32:20Terror and your the outrageous one of the two of you always
- 32:26balmy is Gianni go listen sighs, mad intros he does for to Sarah
- 32:31choose. They're going or Mark, all
- 32:33right. Or getting to that cool.
- 32:36Pic with the the red lighting now, Canines going to have to
- 32:40try and get them out of the maze.
- 32:43Just sort of walk slowly behind it.
- 32:45Yeah. Oh, I do like this.
- 32:48So you we can't hear the music, but it is going full on these
- 32:53horns, menacing shot looking up at the school.
- 33:02I mean, the item right costume, I'm not gonna log in the butt.
- 33:08My entire life. Okay here's a question all these
- 33:14things so emblazoned in our memories now that the
- 33:19embarrassments just gone and we just accept them for what they
- 33:22are. And we just enjoy the story.
- 33:25It's like we've gotten over that childhood.
- 33:27Oh God, this is agonizing. I've certainly been through that
- 33:30myself and I listen to Toby hey those podcasts and I think he's
- 33:35had the same sort of realization that For years and years took
- 33:38it. So seriously how can anyone like
- 33:41that? And you just go back over again.
- 33:43You actually think God. I just need to loosen up a bit.
- 33:46This is really good fun. What he did.
- 33:49Find yourself enjoying it so much more but he did his time of
- 33:52the Raleigh. What I know.
- 33:53He's never been a massive father that.
- 33:55Yeah. And he was like, I'm enjoying
- 33:57this what's wrong? And you know the Chase and time
- 34:03of the Rhinos who are my guilty pleasures are just until both of
- 34:06them. We voted to chase our famous
- 34:07story from season two. Why are you are clearly men of
- 34:11Great Taste. Yeah, modest as well.
- 34:16I agree. Okay.
- 34:20Now, go through the wall. Yeah.
- 34:24So if we had our big Showdown with the nylon now they're sort
- 34:27of out on they. Yeah, it's going to blow up,
- 34:31isn't it? So nice explosion.
- 34:34Yeah, is actually for motion egg boxes, going up?
- 34:38Yes. Yeah.
- 34:40What is it? Works really well.
- 34:42Did you see that scuttled? The hide there.
- 34:44Let's see if it goes back to him.
- 34:46It didn't know what was going on in the scene either.
- 34:48Very lost Oh my God. It's not a match.
- 34:51The performance of the in Ethan's.
- 34:52I think I've been to a few discos with this line Affair.
- 34:55Yeah, I think you know what you mean I have?
- 35:00Wow, I'm sure. Now, look, I didn't ask for an
- 35:05explosive Climax and it looks like we're getting one.
- 35:08There you go. That's a happy ending Sean field
- 35:12that's in slow motion. That's pretty good.
- 35:14Yeah. I've seen a lot worse.
- 35:20Yes. Oh boy.
- 35:22I'll be watching The Tomorrow People.
- 35:23Recently. Good Lord, you were sitting
- 35:26Davidson one yet? Yeah.
- 35:28Oh my good. God.
- 35:31I thought our Underpants not as much.
- 35:36Yeah. Dickinson had a voice to my
- 35:41brain. Lovely lady though.
- 35:44I'm sure. Very sure it is.
- 35:48All about. Agra feel right.
- 35:49If there if a lawyer is a listing in listening very nice
- 35:55personalized, she was actually she was very good in
- 35:57Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
- 35:58Yes, she was. Yeah, you know, it's just very
- 36:01lies in the Tardis. Yeah.
- 36:03It's all about why they took them from the nine months,
- 36:05disco. Didn't they?
- 36:06Okay guys grin off do this, but musical sting of The Wedding
- 36:13March as the flesh that's going away.
- 36:15Yeah. They say I was it always he's
- 36:19got his work. Now take his going to build up
- 36:20all these Legends around him. He's told him to paint his ship
- 36:24white. That goes back to the original
- 36:27myth. Do you remember the Deep Space
- 36:31Nine Season 2 Episode 1 episode homecoming?
- 36:36Watch the a sniper so long. Okay it's about it's about one
- 36:40of the bajorans terrorists, then killed someone by accident and
- 36:45they then he had this reputation as a great warrior.
- 36:50And it was actually just a very humble man who happened to be at
- 36:52the right place. When a man was washing himself
- 36:55and he pulled out his gun, nervously and shot him him.
- 36:58And it's basically this whole story line of Seth, but done
- 37:02with nuance and Saturday. And Smalls.
- 37:09Well that's it. The holes of my bond doesn't
- 37:12have salty. Nuance and smart.
- 37:15Well I mean it's it's it's own thing well and we love it.
- 37:20It's 9 episode does no ground crowden camping out exactly.
- 37:23This is the last time we see This Time Tunnel, so sad that
- 37:27music yes Delia Derbyshire has theme tune awkward, boxes
- 37:32started Sharda. I'm gonna bail good Lord for we
- 37:34start doing a commentary on that.
- 37:37Well, Mark, after Glorious episodes of Sharda.
- 37:40We are now in the position where we have to name three things
- 37:44each that we like about the story that we would choose to
- 37:49recommend it to others. Let's go.
- 37:52You me, you me, you me. Okay, I am going to, I mean,
- 37:56it's an obvious one, isn't it? Graham crowd and Christ on a
- 38:00bike. Is he is campus Christmas?
- 38:03Yes. Is he entertaining?
- 38:05Yes. Ain't that sells it just His
- 38:09performance. You have stolen my dreams of
- 38:12Conquest, you know? I'm sorry but you are a
- 38:16meddlesome hussy. So I've been called that.
- 38:22I am going to say LOL, Awards or Romana not lost, not just a lot
- 38:27of what Ramana. I think she hadn't written
- 38:28brilliantly. This is pretty.
- 38:29And in this it's probably the most agency she ever has.
- 38:34She is effectively in the doctors role while he's out with
- 38:39consoles in the Tardis and all of this and she's brilliant.
- 38:43She's she of all of the actors in this is taking his deadly
- 38:47seriously. Yeah, absolutely.
- 38:49I think if there's any tension to be had it's being channeled
- 38:53through LOL. Whoops.
- 38:55Yeah. Now I'd agree.
- 38:58What else can we say about the story?
- 39:00I think the the story itself and the the idea of having the maze
- 39:11but updating it. So it's a computer circuit.
- 39:14I think it's such a brilliant idea and I think it deserves a
- 39:18bit more credit than it gets some would argue.
- 39:21It's not perhaps realized in a way that really shows it off but
- 39:26I think it's a very neat idea. I think it's a solid story is
- 39:30it's explicitly making that link between myth and science
- 39:34fiction, isn't? Yeah.
- 39:35Yeah so I can see why. I only read might be a bit.
- 39:38Pissed is like, well, yeah, Drive the point home.
- 39:42The point. I'm at the other time they tried
- 39:43to do. This was underworld, wasn't it?
- 39:45And yes, it was similarly successful there.
- 39:48Yeah, yeah. I think this is slightly more
- 39:50beloved than underworld. Yes, I really big performances
- 39:55in that, is that? Mmm, I've watched it for a long
- 39:57time, but it's a dude in that one, even had a like, who's
- 40:02normally way over the top when it is in both 7.
- 40:05He plays a Savage who goes around murdering we murders
- 40:07rich. Franklin.
- 40:09Oh wow. I want to do it.
- 40:14Sounds like that. Yeah.
- 40:15Anyway, yeah. All I am going to say for my
- 40:18second one, then the Glorious non-speaking extras.
- 40:24They are divided as much enjoyment.
- 40:31And I do believe it's a sort of sub-genre of acting that you see
- 40:34in many a doctor who story and yeah, just see what the perfect.
- 40:39The background artist, the background artists in that
- 40:42sequence in the to doctors when bobby gets killed and you're all
- 40:47just sitting there having their tea.
- 40:48Yeah. Well, you've linked to their to
- 40:51the stake here. Yes, good one.
- 40:58I am going to say. I think it's just a lovely
- 41:02farewell to the 70s. It's Tom and Lala the chemistry
- 41:08is just undeniable and it sums up why I love the 70s so much
- 41:15It's his fault like dr. Who may be a sticky back
- 41:18plastic, isn't it? But in a really fun way, with a
- 41:21ton of imagination and it's kind of cozy as well.
- 41:24It's all inside, isn't it? Is there's no location work.
- 41:28It's comfortable feeling. God damn it, choose a third one.
- 41:34That's all I'm going to say. I mean I should say just the
- 41:41fact that they from this story prompted, my First podcast,
- 41:46which changed my life. Hmm But I think I said that
- 41:50whenever one I don't want to be predictable.
- 41:52So instead I'm gonna give us a salutary salute that work
- 41:57possibly to Dudley Simpson. Yes.
- 42:01Who has been a Mainstay of the show since Giants?
- 42:06I want to say yeah I certainly know he's there for the
- 42:09crusading to chase. He's there's yeah in season 2 at
- 42:13the end and the earliest Yeah. And has provided one memorable
- 42:18score after another contribution.
- 42:20Yeah, probably a job here as well with her amazing theme.
- 42:24Yeah, yeah. So yeah, that's what lump them
- 42:28into two and you know and just for the fact that he did Right.
- 42:33How he's impressive horn, one last time and what a hornet was?
- 42:39I hear? It got a lot of use.
- 42:43Mark, I want to say thank you for daring to come on this thing
- 42:50and throw as much innuendo at me as you have.
- 42:53Well I figured you know you gotta go big or go home, you may
- 42:57be mocking Keys, guess? Yeah, that's a that's something.
- 43:02I would love. Love, love for you to come back
- 43:05and do some more if you're willing.
- 43:08Absolutely I'd love to. So let's discuss off my a couple
- 43:12of new who Ooh, Moffat stories, love.
- 43:16It will have some interesting debates there.
- 43:19I think so too. But for now where can people
- 43:22find all of our all the time and space?
- 43:24Is it on all podcast capture? Yeah, pretty much.
- 43:27Any way you want to look. So we're hosted by Spotify for
- 43:31podcasters, so you'll find us on Apple Spotify, Google podcasts,
- 43:36you name it. If you can get a podcast on it,
- 43:39you can find us at all of time and space.
- 43:41We would love to have you along for the 80.
- 43:44I'm there. I'm there.
- 43:47Thank you very much for your time.
- 43:48It's been an absolute blast. Thank you.
- 43:50I really enjoyed it. And we're out.
- 43:55Okay, I really appreciate you. Appreciate you asking me on is
- 43:59great fun.
