- 0:04Speaker 1: Anybody who's looking at this carefully realizes that there's a
- 0:07Speaker 1: distinct anti science flavor to this. So if they get
- 0:12Speaker 1: up and criticize science, they're really criticizing science because I
- 0:16Speaker 1: represent science. What I was doing was saying, here the
- 0:20Speaker 1: data of why vaccines are safe and effective, so we
- 0:24Speaker 1: should be getting people vaccinating.
- 0:26Speaker 2: And you're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with
- 0:29Speaker 2: Ben ferguson.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Good Tuesday morning at Science. Have you with us on
- 0:32Speaker 3: the forty seven Morning Update, and we've got one truly
- 0:35Speaker 3: unbelievable story for you. President Trump, it's now being reported,
- 0:40Speaker 3: was secretly rushed out of Turkey hiding in a catering
- 0:44Speaker 3: truck as Air Force one became a decoy, all because
- 0:48Speaker 3: of a credible Iranian assassination threat. I've got the stunning
- 0:53Speaker 3: details for you. It's the forty seven Morning Update and
- 0:56Speaker 3: it starts right now.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Story number one.
- 0:59Speaker 3: What we're learning this morning about this security thread against
- 1:02Speaker 3: President Donald Trump is absolutely extraordinary because, according to new
- 1:07Speaker 3: reporting from the Washington Post investigation, the threat from Iran
- 1:13Speaker 3: became so serious that the United States carried out an
- 1:16Speaker 3: elaborate deception to secretly get the president out of Turkey
- 1:21Speaker 3: and This may sound like something out of a spy movie.
- 1:24Speaker 3: The Washington Post is now reporting that this happened on
- 1:27Speaker 3: July eighth, after President Trump attended the NATO summit. Now,
- 1:31Speaker 3: according to the report, there was a credible Iranian assassination
- 1:35Speaker 3: threat against the president, and American security officials apparently decided
- 1:40Speaker 3: they were not going to take any chances, so they
- 1:44Speaker 3: created a decoy. Insert the spy movie right now. President
- 1:48Speaker 3: Trump was seen publicly boarding the older Boeing seven forty
- 1:52Speaker 3: seven used as Air Force one. Cameron saw him get
- 1:56Speaker 3: on the plane. Reporters believed he was on the plane.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Even some White House staff apparently believed the President was
- 2:04Speaker 3: on that aircraft, But according to the Washington Posts, that
- 2:09Speaker 3: wasn't what actually happened. Trump was secretly moved from the
- 2:14Speaker 3: seven forty seven Air Force one and transport across the airport.
- 2:19Speaker 3: In something nobody would expect the President of the United
- 2:22Speaker 3: States would be riding in an airport catering truck, that
- 2:27Speaker 3: kind of vehicle normally used to load food and supplies
- 2:30Speaker 3: onto an airplane. If you fly often you see that
- 2:34Speaker 3: truck pulled up right when you're walking on the plane,
- 2:37Speaker 3: bringing on well drinks and beverages and food and taking
- 2:41Speaker 3: away old beverages and trash and whatever else. That is
- 2:46Speaker 3: how they moved the president. Now, that catering vehicle reportedly
- 2:49Speaker 3: transport the president to a completely different aircraft that was
- 2:54Speaker 3: an air Force C thirty two, a the smaller military
- 2:57Speaker 3: jet commonly associated with senior government travel. Then we're told
- 3:02Speaker 3: that Trump secretly departed Turkey aboard that aircraft while the
- 3:06Speaker 3: seven forty seven effectively served as a decoy. Now, I
- 3:10Speaker 3: want you to think about the level of planning involved here.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You have television cameras watching one airplane, You have journalists
- 3:18Speaker 3: aboard that airplane. You have the White House personnel aboard
- 3:22Speaker 3: that airplane as well, And meanwhile, the President of the
- 3:26Speaker 3: United States is being quietly transported across the airport on
- 3:29Speaker 3: the tarmac in a catering truck to board another military
- 3:35Speaker 3: aircraft because officials are so concerned about the potential Iranian
- 3:39Speaker 3: threat against his life. Now, the Washington Post reporting also
- 3:44Speaker 3: sets that Trump's actual aircraft flew to RAF Mildenhall in Britain. Reuters,
- 3:50Speaker 3: citing the Post reporting, says the extraordinary security operation was
- 3:55Speaker 3: considered a credible Iranian assassination threat and Here's what makes
- 4:01Speaker 3: the story even more remarkable. At the time, the public
- 4:04Speaker 3: explanation was completely different. Trump had said he was using
- 4:09Speaker 3: the older Air Force one, essentially quote for old time's sake.
- 4:14Speaker 3: When reporters asked whether the Iranian threats were behind the
- 4:17Speaker 3: unusual travel arrangements, Trump dismissed that idea, and he explained
- 4:22Speaker 3: that the plane change and he just said he'd pointed
- 4:25Speaker 3: out that the threats against him were nothing new. He
- 4:27Speaker 3: said Iran had him at the top of its list.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Here's how CNN also reported the breaking news story to
- 4:36Speaker 3: their audience. From Anderson Cooper, good evening from the newsroom.
- 4:40Speaker 4: We begin with a remarkable new twist to a story
- 4:42Speaker 4: already full of them new reporting in the Washington Post
- 4:45Speaker 4: about the president's return from the Neto summit in Turkey,
- 4:48Speaker 4: which already included a change of planes with the President,
- 4:51Speaker 4: or so we thought, taking his old Blue seven forty
- 4:54Speaker 4: seven for the first leg of the trip instead of
- 4:58Speaker 4: this new Katari gift read seven, which he boarded for
- 5:01Speaker 4: the second leg from England back to the US. Now,
- 5:03Speaker 4: we were told at the time it was to give
- 5:05Speaker 4: troops in England a better look at the new plane,
- 5:08Speaker 4: which had left Turkey earlier. That wasn't true, and everybody
- 5:12Speaker 4: knew it wasn't true at the time. The switch was
- 5:14Speaker 4: for security reasons, and now the Post is reporting that
- 5:18Speaker 4: the threat was so severe there was a second switch
- 5:21Speaker 4: onto a third plane. The President was not on this
- 5:24Speaker 4: plane at all. Instead, according to the Post, even as
- 5:27Speaker 4: members of the press were boarding from the rear door,
- 5:30Speaker 4: the President, who we just showed you climbing the front steps,
- 5:34Speaker 4: was leaving the plane leaving on one of these quoting
- 5:38Speaker 4: now from the Post, he was secretly shuttled minutes later
- 5:41Speaker 4: to a smaller plane, an Air Force C THIR two
- 5:44Speaker 4: to a via, an airport catering truck typically used to
- 5:49Speaker 4: load meals and other supplies pre flight, according to US
- 5:52Speaker 4: official and corroberating material reviewed by the Post, the Post
- 5:56Speaker 4: ask the White House for comment. The White House instead
- 5:58Speaker 4: provided a statement about the new seven to forty sive
- 6:00Speaker 4: Evans quote, the new Air Force one is a state
- 6:02Speaker 4: of the art aircraft that has been fitted with high
- 6:04Speaker 4: level security protocols and ensured the safety of the President
- 6:07Speaker 4: his staff. As the President had said recently, there are
- 6:10Speaker 4: many enemies of America who have their sights on him,
- 6:13Speaker 4: and we use every tool at our disposal to address
- 6:16Speaker 4: those threats.
- 6:17Speaker 3: This is the part that I absolutely love. We have
- 6:20Speaker 3: a president of United States of America. The dozen cancel
- 6:22Speaker 3: the trip and the security around him. They do it
- 6:27Speaker 3: amazingly well to protect the president of the United States
- 6:31Speaker 3: of America. Now you notice how Anderson Cooper there says
- 6:35Speaker 3: we all knew that this was absurd a month ago.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Well then why didn't you say something about it. Of
- 6:40Speaker 3: course they're angry that they got duped by the security
- 6:43Speaker 3: team of the president, that they were on the plane
- 6:46Speaker 3: and the President wasn't actually there. Now a month later,
- 6:49Speaker 3: we're all learning how sophisticated the security operation actually was.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And regardless by the way of your politics, and I
- 6:56Speaker 3: would say this specifically to Anderson Cooper should understand the
- 7:01Speaker 3: significance of this. Iran has repeatedly been accused by American
- 7:06Speaker 3: officials of plotting to assassinate US officials, including our president.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Now we're talking about security concerns serious enough that the
- 7:16Speaker 3: commander in chief's movements were disguised. Air Force one was
- 7:21Speaker 3: reportedly used as a decoy, and the president was moved
- 7:25Speaker 3: through an airport in a catering vehicle. That's not routine
- 7:30Speaker 3: presidential security. That's an extraordinary precaution designed around one objective
- 7:35Speaker 3: to make sure anyone potentially watching does not know where
- 7:39Speaker 3: the president actually is. And God bless our men and
- 7:42Speaker 3: women who protect our president. And there's also another important
- 7:46Speaker 3: issue here as well. Some people are going to look
- 7:49Speaker 3: at this story and ask why the White House didn't
- 7:51Speaker 3: tell the truth publicly at the time. You can hear
- 7:54Speaker 3: the disdain in the voice of Anderson Cooper there. Well,
- 7:56Speaker 3: you should know where the media well the president. And
- 8:00Speaker 3: security is one of those situations where secrecy and deception
- 8:04Speaker 3: can be a part of the protection itself, and I'm
- 8:06Speaker 3: glad they did it. You don't announce the president's real
- 8:10Speaker 3: location while you're trying to conceal it from a potential
- 8:12Speaker 3: adversary who has publicly said they want to kill the
- 8:16Speaker 3: president and are planning to do it if they can.
- 8:19Speaker 3: You don't tell the world which airplane is actually a board,
- 8:22Speaker 3: and you certainly don't explain your security protocol in real time,
- 8:26Speaker 3: even to the elitist media.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Now.
- 8:28Speaker 3: The Washington Post reporting also suggests that the deception went
- 8:32Speaker 3: remarkably well, right down to people traveling with the president
- 8:36Speaker 3: and not necessarily knowing what was even happening for those
- 8:39Speaker 3: around the president in his own entourage. Again, I love this,
- 8:44Speaker 3: and that's what also tells you something else. This is
- 8:48Speaker 3: how big of a threat Iran is to the US
- 8:51Speaker 3: and to the president of United States of America. There
- 8:54Speaker 3: are real threats and environments around this president that no
- 8:58Speaker 3: other president has ever had to deal with. So we've
- 9:01Speaker 3: become accustomed to hearing about threats against Donald Trump more
- 9:04Speaker 3: than any other president in my lifetime. And the sad
- 9:07Speaker 3: part is the way the media has dealt with all
- 9:09Speaker 3: of these assassination attempts of the president is they want
- 9:13Speaker 3: you to just become numb to the language so that
- 9:15Speaker 3: it's just background noise. This should not be background noise.
- 9:19Speaker 3: The president, well, he did the right thing by making
- 9:23Speaker 3: sure that he was safe, those around him did the
- 9:25Speaker 3: right thing, and having him transport through foreign airports and
- 9:29Speaker 3: catering trucks. That's truly genius. The air forverse one doesn't
- 9:33Speaker 3: become a decoy for no reason, and the President of
- 9:36Speaker 3: the United States doesn't secretly leave a NATO summit aboard
- 9:39Speaker 3: another military aircraft unless the people responsible for protecting President
- 9:44Speaker 3: Trump believe there's a real reason to take these truly
- 9:47Speaker 3: extraordinary precautions, which goes back to the issue with Iran.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Why on earth would anyone think that Iran could be
- 9:55Speaker 3: trusted with a nuclear weapon? And that's what makes US
- 9:59Speaker 3: Washington Post report for me so stunning. The headline isn't
- 10:03Speaker 3: simply that Donald Trump changed airplanes. The headline is that
- 10:06Speaker 3: American security officials believe the Iranian threat was so serious.
- 10:11Speaker 3: It was serious enough to create an elaborate, presential disappearing act,
- 10:16Speaker 3: hiding the Commander in chief's actual movements from virtually everyone watching.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And the best part about it is this, it worked.
