Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Dev Questions Podcast with Tim Corey.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Join us each episode as we tackle the questions you are asking about a career in software development, understanding the industry, and new technology.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: If you're just starting out or you want to grow stronger as a developer, this is the place to get your questions answered.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Now, here's your host, expert developer and online educator, Tim Corey.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Hello everyone, and welcome to the first video in the Dev Question Series.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: I thought I'd take this opportunity to kind of introduce the series, talk about what it's all about, and why it's so important that we answer these questions.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: So this series is going to tackle about one question per week.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Every Thursday, we come out with a new video that's going to answer one question that developers have.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Now, if you have a question already, great.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Put it down in the comments down below.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: I will categorize them.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: I'm going to create a list of the questions that you have and try and organize them by what's most important.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Not saying that your question is not important, but how it's going to help the broader scope.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: If it's very focused on just your specific case, we probably won't cover it.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: But if it's a more general question that developers have, we'll definitely cover it.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: So make sure that you put your questions down there.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Now, the reason I'm doing this series is because often I hear that developers have questions and they just feel like they can't ask them.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: So maybe you feel like you should know the answer to this.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: And so you don't ask.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Because you feel like maybe an imposter, or maybe like you just should already know that you're stupid if you don't.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Well, the answer is no, you're not stupid.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Nobody has this information already when they're born.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: You have to learn at some point, meaning you have to ask the question.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: So this series is going to cover those questions.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: So again, if you have questions, ask them down below.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: This is your opportunity to sit down with a developer and say, hey, you've been there.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: What do you think about this?
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: And so this is my opportunity to talk to you.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: These videos will be very informal.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: It's just basically me on camera.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: We're not going to do a whole lot of code or really deep technical talks.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: They're much more focused on the questions around programming.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Things that we can do to kind of help you move forward as a developer.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: So that's where we're going to go with this.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: I may do a little bit of screen sharing.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: We may even do more than one question for some videos.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: If we have a lot of little questions that I can answer more quickly, I might do that in one video, kind of like a group question, a number of questions all at once.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So that's kind of the format we're going to do.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: The upcoming videos, I'm not going to give you a specific order to these, but I do have a number of topics I'm looking at.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: For example, one of them is on how do I not feel like an imposter?
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: That's a big one.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: That's one that it kind of crushes me a little bit because real developers feel like they're not.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: A developer is a person who writes code.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: So we're going to talk about how do you get away from feeling like an imposter?
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: That's one of the biggest questions I get asked in my email on pretty much a daily basis.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: So we're going to talk about that really soon, maybe even next week.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Another one is how do I retain what I learned in C sharp or even programming in general?
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: How do I uh make sure that I retain that long term?
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: Since I'm stuffing a whole bunch of knowledge in my head, how do I get beyond that and actually learn it?
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Alright?
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And we'll cover things that are more specifically C sharp related, such as as a C sharp developer, should I learn Angular React or View?
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Um and things like that.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: I've got, oh, Genga 4.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: That comes up a lot.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Should I know the Gang of 4 design patterns?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: How many should I know?
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Which ones should I know?
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Um how deep should I go into them?
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: We're gonna cover that in design patterns in general.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: I get that question a lot, and so we'll probably cover first of all what design patterns should I know as a C sharp developer first?
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, so those are the kind of things we're gonna do in this series.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: The series really kicks off this week with this introductory video.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Next week we'll have our first question and we'll start talking through the answers.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: I love to hear your thoughts on the series as well as, of course, all of your questions.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Leave them down in the comments, that's the best way to let me know.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: I try and respond to every single comment I get, and I mark down the ones where I say, hey, I'll put that on the suggestion list.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: So I'll I create a list of those questions and then I'll sort them by popularity as well.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: So if you're if maybe you have a question but somebody already asked it, upvote it.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, or put a comment below that, underneath it, that says me too, or yes, please, something like that, so that I know that there's a lot of interest in these questions.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: The more interest that there is, the more likely it is that I will cover that question.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: So that's the series.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Hopefully you uh will get a ton of value out of this.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: They'll be quick videos, they won't be very long, just enough to get the answer into your hands and get you moving forward as a developer.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Okay?
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Thanks for watching, and as always, I am Tim Corey.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Thank you for joining us for this episode of Dev Questions.
