- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon, listeners. Thank you for listening to Lament
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Hope podcast. And I'm very grateful. This is gonna
- 0:08Speaker 1: be a little unconventional, because if you're watching this, you're
- 0:11Speaker 1: gonna see it's just the logo for the podcast. But Dr.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Katina and I really tried. And unfortunately, we weren't able
- 0:19Speaker 1: to do video, but that's okay. I'm thinking too, your
- 0:22Speaker 1: wife must be a comfort to you too, to have
- 0:24Speaker 1: a companion, too.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. I mean, that's, Now we have three kids.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We have three adopted children. The youngest will be two
- 0:35Speaker 2: next month. I mean, he is awesome. So they're stories
- 0:42Speaker 2: unto themselves. But, you know, before I married, we married
- 0:47Speaker 2: 10 years, 10 years next month. So before that, yeah,
- 0:51Speaker 2: it was much, much more bleak. You'd finish the day
- 0:53Speaker 2: in the hospital, go back to my room, it'd be
- 0:56Speaker 2: late at night. There was, you know, there's no TV here.
- 0:59Speaker 2: There's no entertainment. You just kind of sit there. You're like,
- 1:02Speaker 2: no one to talk to, really. It was a pretty,
- 1:05Speaker 2: pretty bleak existence. It was just the work. You know,
- 1:07Speaker 2: it was kind of just work and not much else. Now,
- 1:11Speaker 2: at least I got something to take my mind off it.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I can come home in the evening. I can play
- 1:15Speaker 2: with the kids. I can see how things went for them.
- 1:19Speaker 2: So it's much, much better to have my wife there
- 1:22Speaker 2: and my kids. It's a huge, been a huge blessing.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Can I ask how you met her?
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah, so she was... Because I was.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Like, how did you have time to date anybody?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Well, we didn't really date. Dating here is taboo. So
- 1:37Speaker 2: dating is totally, totally... You can't use that word boyfriend
- 1:43Speaker 2: or girlfriend. I mean, I can't even think about it.
- 1:46Speaker 2: You can't publicly say, hey, this is my girlfriend. Her
- 1:48Speaker 2: brothers would come and beat me up. Everything's got to
- 1:51Speaker 2: be top secret. So you quietly get to know somebody
- 1:53Speaker 2: kind of on the side, you steal a moment here
- 1:55Speaker 2: or there. Like she'd be working at night. She, we, she,
- 1:58Speaker 2: we hired her as a, as a nurse. She wasn't
- 1:59Speaker 2: a nurse. We hired her, we trained her on the job,
- 2:03Speaker 2: but you know, I, I know her schedule and figure
- 2:05Speaker 2: out when she was working at nights and I'd find
- 2:07Speaker 2: myself down in her ward at night, kind of spending
- 2:10Speaker 2: a few minutes kind of chatting with her. Um, I, I,
- 2:13Speaker 2: I know other, I know another social life to go on. So, um,
- 2:18Speaker 2: I come to know her very informally like that. But
- 2:22Speaker 2: it was it was very. Yeah, it was kind of
- 2:25Speaker 2: just stealing moments here and there. Kind of be alone
- 2:28Speaker 2: for a minute here or there and kind of chat
- 2:29Speaker 2: and talk. But yeah, dating is totally, totally forbidden here.
- 2:35Speaker 2: It's all kind of done a little bit on the
- 2:37Speaker 2: side of the top secret. Then you got to kind
- 2:40Speaker 2: of approach the family. So she went away to school.
- 2:47Speaker 2: and approach them and then you can be seen kind
- 2:50Speaker 2: of publicly with her you can't be seen in public
- 2:51Speaker 2: with with a woman unless you've already as you've gone
- 2:54Speaker 2: to the family you said i want to marry your
- 2:56Speaker 2: daughter then you can be seen in public with her
- 2:59Speaker 2: before that you're you know you will be attacked by
- 3:03Speaker 2: her brothers if they see you in public with her
- 3:05Speaker 2: with their sister it'll go after you so it's a
- 3:08Speaker 2: very yeah it's a strict culture what if you
- 3:12Speaker 1: Have no brothers
