- 0:26Speaker 3: HiT's the classy I'll go hold.
- 0:29Speaker 4: Thank you everybody for tuning in to Missed Company.
- 0:32Speaker 3: It's a brand new show, unique show covering boxing a
- 0:35Speaker 3: lot of different ways that you may not have thought about before.
- 0:38Speaker 4: We have myself Jamison Welsh.
- 0:41Speaker 2: And I'm the classy, alcoholic and Arizona based blogger. I've
- 0:44Speaker 2: been writing about mostly booze related stories like crap, beer, wine, spirits,
- 0:48Speaker 2: some food. But this is the first time I'm actually
- 0:51Speaker 2: talking sports in a professional setting as opposed to just
- 0:53Speaker 2: talking shit in the bar with a friend of mine.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So yeah, we're here to chat about the professional sport
- 0:58Speaker 2: of boxing.
- 0:59Speaker 3: So the man before we get into the actual name
- 1:02Speaker 3: of the show and why why you got that hot
- 1:05Speaker 3: ass mask? I know it's hot out there. Why you
- 1:07Speaker 3: got that hot ass suit on and a hot ass
- 1:09Speaker 3: mask on? And it's one hundred degrees outside?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Well, first of all, I'm not just any alcoholic. I'm
- 1:14Speaker 2: the classy alcoholics. So I got to live up today
- 1:16Speaker 2: at noything.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Ain't no use alcoholic, ain't no classy, ain't there's all right,
- 1:21Speaker 3: there's classy, there's disruptive, there's passive, and it's all alcoholics.
- 1:25Speaker 4: You got a problem.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm trying to I'm trying to take it onto the
- 1:28Speaker 2: next level. And the mass is because you know, I
- 1:30Speaker 2: may be a fugitive in some areas and I don't
- 1:32Speaker 2: want to. You know, listen, you know we don't need
- 1:33Speaker 2: to get in all that. Don't pull me.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I'm blessed here, Okay, everything? What what's with a classic
- 1:37Speaker 3: alcoholic and like a regular alcoholic?
- 1:38Speaker 1: Though?
- 1:39Speaker 4: Real quick?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Sure? Well, you know, if you drink craft beer, good spirits,
- 1:43Speaker 2: expensive stuff, then you're a classy alcoholic as opposed to
- 1:45Speaker 2: just drinking you know, fortys of steel reserve and passing
- 1:49Speaker 2: out on the ditch.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I mean, there's point of weight no matter how you
- 1:52Speaker 4: get there. I heard you. I heard you.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I said, though we did decide to come combine our forces.
- 2:00Speaker 4: You bring us a mixed company.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I've been doing a podcast over ten years now, mainly
- 2:05Speaker 3: basketball and sports gaming and just sports in general. So
- 2:10Speaker 3: when you know, our great friend Jabari brought this opportunity
- 2:12Speaker 3: to us. Thought it was pretty funny because mixed company,
- 2:16Speaker 3: for those that don't know, boxing is a very interesting
- 2:18Speaker 3: sport that we all love. However, watching any combat sport
- 2:22Speaker 3: in mixed company is a very dangerous thing because when
- 2:26Speaker 3: you got violence going on, you've got mixed races, mixed ethnicities,
- 2:30Speaker 3: mixed cultures, all bets are kind of off and unfortunately,
- 2:34Speaker 3: you know, we know how it is. I'm black, so
- 2:36Speaker 3: being in a room full of Mexican people on Mexican
- 2:40Speaker 3: Indepennis Day weekend or Santa Nemo is very interesting.
- 2:44Speaker 2: What I'm Mexican American and I've been to the sport
- 2:47Speaker 2: as far as is that the Mexican side of town
- 2:49Speaker 2: where sometimes a Mexican fighter is fighting a Black fighter.
- 2:52Speaker 2: And you know what, I might not be rooting for
- 2:54Speaker 2: the Mexican guy myself, but what I'm there, absolutely it's
- 2:58Speaker 2: for me hit there as far as they're concerned.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, With that being said, I mean, here's the thing.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I love people, so I don't really care, like I
- 3:06Speaker 3: don't really trip. However, I do have a story to tell.
- 3:10Speaker 3: So Floyd fucked Canello. Wow was like ten years ago
- 3:15Speaker 3: now at least he fought Canelo. We went to Hooters.
- 3:19Speaker 3: So Hooters in Vegas went to the one on Rainbow
- 3:21Speaker 3: and two fifteen, so it was packed to the brim
- 3:24Speaker 3: and it wasn't a lot of black people in there,
- 3:25Speaker 3: to be honest with you, It was a handful of us.
- 3:28Speaker 4: It was maybe five. The rest of.
- 3:30Speaker 3: The establishment was Mexican people, a few white people, and
- 3:35Speaker 3: that was it, and it was it was.
- 3:37Speaker 4: It wasn't necessarily mixed. It was like the majority, yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 4: the other side.
- 3:41Speaker 3: So when the fight after the third round, the fight
- 3:44Speaker 3: kind of was what it was, you can kind of
- 3:46Speaker 3: tell Heo was getting mad because Floyd was obviously winning
- 3:49Speaker 3: and we knew he was gonna win, and people had
- 3:51Speaker 3: got upset because you know, Canela had a huge falling
- 3:54Speaker 3: back then like he does now, and people were kind
- 3:56Speaker 3: of feeling upset because they knew what was going on.
- 3:59Speaker 3: At the same time, nothing happened, but you can kind
- 4:02Speaker 3: of sense the tension change in the buildings. That's why
- 4:05Speaker 3: it's always interesting when you do watch stuff in mixed crowds.
- 4:08Speaker 2: The tension changes absolutely. And you know what we're going
- 4:12Speaker 2: to hear at this podcast. We're going to talk about,
- 4:14Speaker 2: you know, race issues in boxing and with fans and
- 4:17Speaker 2: all of that. We don't shy away from stuff. So
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'll say, I'm sorry. A lot of Mexicans are racist
- 4:21Speaker 2: as hell. I'm not, and I see those people and
- 4:24Speaker 2: I've shut that shit down, you know, online, when they
- 4:27Speaker 2: start arguing abot a black boxer versus a Mexican boxer,
- 4:31Speaker 2: and they start bringing you know, actual fucked up racism
- 4:34Speaker 2: into it, I try to get in the middle and say, look, guys, look,
- 4:37Speaker 2: we're all supposed to be here together rooting against the
- 4:39Speaker 2: white fighters. Okay, that's what we're here to do.
- 4:42Speaker 4: That's fair. That's fair. Even the white fighters get it.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I hear you, absolutely, But sometimes they'd be all righting, guys,
- 4:48Speaker 3: my friends.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I'll give you another example.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Ricky Hatton, so way back when when he was undefeated,
- 4:53Speaker 3: he came across the pond and fought Floyd. That was
- 4:57Speaker 3: the craziest thing I've ever seen because he brought all
- 4:59Speaker 3: the fame with him. So they brought everybody to Vegas,
- 5:03Speaker 3: so they were on the strip or they were up
- 5:06Speaker 3: here and someone at Red Rock going crazy. That might
- 5:09Speaker 3: have been the most dangerous night I've seen in person.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I was back in the day when they had the
- 5:12Speaker 3: fights on the sports books for free. So what happened
- 5:15Speaker 3: was every spot was overfilled. So when Ricky Haten was
- 5:18Speaker 3: getting abused that whole fight, people got upset. You had
- 5:22Speaker 3: beer glasses getting beer bottles getting thrown and shot glass
- 5:27Speaker 3: getting tossed in fights and people getting mad or people
- 5:30Speaker 3: getting too drunk. So again, next company, you got people
- 5:33Speaker 3: talking shit. So you know how we will go. One
- 5:35Speaker 3: person starts saying one thing, the other person losing money,
- 5:39Speaker 3: and they pride her all bets are off.
- 5:41Speaker 4: So yeah, man, it's the next company. One is a
- 5:44Speaker 4: very interesting situation.
- 5:46Speaker 2: That Ricky hadn't fight must have been interesting because you
- 5:48Speaker 2: know British people are here in the US rooting for them,
- 5:50Speaker 2: probably ordering boiled steak at the restaurant. But at the
- 5:53Speaker 2: end of the day, you know them they're gonna be
- 5:55Speaker 2: okay fighting because they have free healthcare. So you get
- 5:57Speaker 2: a two stock, do you get stabbed? They go back home.
- 5:59Speaker 2: That's all they don't have.
- 6:01Speaker 3: To Ain't nobody checking the ask well, I don't care
- 6:03Speaker 3: whether and you get him. Man, I don't free health
- 6:10Speaker 3: care or not. No one wants gonna ask me. I
- 6:12Speaker 3: don't care about the benefits or anything. No one wants
- 6:15Speaker 3: to go through that. That's fair, that's fair, but na.
- 6:18Speaker 3: So we have a potential situation coming up here. It's
- 6:21Speaker 3: like the known secret in the sense we know that
- 6:24Speaker 3: Canelo and Terrence Bug Crawford gonna be fighting soon, whether
- 6:29Speaker 3: it's next May, next September, eighteen up. We know eventually
- 6:35Speaker 3: got to fight because let's be honest with it, it's
- 6:38Speaker 3: only a handful of fights out there to make, and
- 6:40Speaker 3: for those two guys, those are the two bigger, biggest
- 6:44Speaker 3: names at the moment, and that's the fight people want
- 6:46Speaker 3: to see. So I think we eventually get that fight.
- 6:50Speaker 3: And this is an all timer mixed company. Because here's
- 6:54Speaker 3: the funniest part. People don't realize Canell got a lot
- 6:57Speaker 3: of black fans, a lot.
- 6:59Speaker 4: I'm one of them. I actually enjoyed watching him box Cans.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Bud Crawford has a lot of Mexican fans in the
- 7:05Speaker 3: Midwest and all over, So it's gonna be hell of
- 7:08Speaker 3: funny when they end up fighting.
- 7:11Speaker 4: But it feels like that fight is coming. What do
- 7:13Speaker 4: you think about that?
- 7:14Speaker 2: Well, I'm not at two one hundred percent sure that
- 7:16Speaker 2: it's inevitable. I'm you seeing a little bit more sure
- 7:18Speaker 2: than I am. Uh Canelo my guy. You know, he
- 7:21Speaker 2: he's been coasting a bit since he got his undisputed
- 7:24Speaker 2: belts at uh super middleweight. I believe it was and
- 7:27Speaker 2: you know, with he had the right to. You know,
- 7:29Speaker 2: he's been coasting a bit. Got a little high on
- 7:31Speaker 2: his supply during that Vall fight with the rescue that
- 7:33Speaker 2: he lost that I do not want to talk about,
- 7:34Speaker 2: which is the worst night of my life. But after that,
- 7:37Speaker 2: it kind of depends. Does he think Bud Crawford is
- 7:40Speaker 2: going to be easy work? Then yeah, If he thinks
- 7:42Speaker 2: he's going to struggle, probably not. But I do not
- 7:45Speaker 2: think that. But it is easy work. I do think
- 7:47Speaker 2: that he's going to give Canelo a good run firms
- 7:49Speaker 2: of money. And you know what, let's put it out there.
- 7:51Speaker 2: If the fight happens, who would you who would you
- 7:52Speaker 2: have on that fight? Chicks?
- 7:54Speaker 3: And what's the weight looking like, what's the what's the
- 7:57Speaker 3: rules of the way, like can you read hydra all
- 7:59Speaker 3: that stuff? Because if Budd's gonna be the smaller guy
- 8:02Speaker 3: in that fight, don't like it for Bud. Now as
- 8:05Speaker 3: you're talking about they're both gonna be one sixty eight.
- 8:09Speaker 3: I guess that would be the the wait. I guess
- 8:11Speaker 3: if I had to thing off top, then that's cool
- 8:15Speaker 3: and they're nothing crazy. Where's Mike rehydrate or you know,
- 8:18Speaker 3: get twenty five pounds heavier night a fight? All?
- 8:21Speaker 4: Nothing crazy like that. I but even fight then yo,
- 8:24Speaker 4: Bud got a shot. But Canelo is really good man.
- 8:27Speaker 3: I think people under people don't appreciate Canelo because I
- 8:32Speaker 3: think it's just a weird era where we're after Floyd,
- 8:35Speaker 3: so we kind of expect if you're not doing what
- 8:37Speaker 3: Floyd did, we don't really care.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I think we kind of in that weird window clause.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Canelo fights multiple times a year and it doesn't get
- 8:44Speaker 3: the same buzz as you would think for a guy
- 8:46Speaker 3: that's the face of a sport. But also, where's that
- 8:49Speaker 3: fight taking place? Is that fight at Jerry's World? Is
- 8:52Speaker 3: in Vegas at Allegiance? Is it in La at any
- 8:55Speaker 3: of the eighteen stadiums they have, Is it in Saudi Arabia?
- 9:00Speaker 4: Is in Dubai? Like where would that fight be?
- 9:03Speaker 3: I think that's a better question anything because the money
- 9:06Speaker 3: that's at hand, that's on the table is like nine
- 9:10Speaker 3: figures for each guy, and both guys really can't afford
- 9:13Speaker 3: to turn that down because you can't make that money
- 9:16Speaker 3: anywhere else fighting anyone else.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Sure, well, let's and for the people that are probably
- 9:20Speaker 2: that might have followed me here and like, why the
- 9:22Speaker 2: hell is he talking about? Supports Just a little bit
- 9:24Speaker 2: of background. Canelo Alvarez, Mexican boxer, one of the most
- 9:28Speaker 2: popular boxes in the world right now, most recently fought
- 9:31Speaker 2: at super middleweight. Wait is one sixty eight is the limit?
- 9:35Speaker 4: There?
- 9:35Speaker 2: Terrence Budd Crawford one of my favorite boxes as well,
- 9:38Speaker 2: totally underrated out of Nebraska. He was fighting most work
- 9:42Speaker 2: doing a welterweight, but very recently he moved up to
- 9:45Speaker 2: super welterweight and one to fight Easilmud. Sorry, I forget
- 9:51Speaker 2: the actual name of the last guy that he fought
- 9:53Speaker 2: first time that he moved up and waited in recent
- 9:56Speaker 2: years and Bud got the w and I think he
- 9:58Speaker 2: deserved it. But he did struggle a bit. It wasn't
- 10:00Speaker 2: a blowout, It wasn't he didn't dominate. So I think
- 10:03Speaker 2: the problem is that when somebody is just a big
- 10:07Speaker 2: slab of beef and you're just punching your way through,
- 10:10Speaker 2: it doesn't matter how fast and slick you are, that's
- 10:12Speaker 2: gonna tire you out. We saw it with Canelo and Berlanga.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Canelo Berlanga was a blowout deserve that w easy. He's easy,
- 10:19Speaker 2: but he was tired and just a guy who can
- 10:21Speaker 2: take that much abuse. That's gonna put some put some
- 10:24Speaker 2: pressure on you and it's gonna tear you out. And
- 10:26Speaker 2: I don't know. I think Budd is one of the
- 10:28Speaker 2: people these days that I wouldn't better get. So no
- 10:30Speaker 2: matter what, I think he's got the speed. Well, at
- 10:33Speaker 2: the end of the day, I think Budd's got it all.
- 10:34Speaker 2: You know, some guys are strong, but they're not as fast.
- 10:37Speaker 2: They're good, they guy goad defense, but they're not good
- 10:38Speaker 2: counter punchers. You know. They're fast with their hands, may
- 10:41Speaker 2: not great on their feet, I think. But it's got
- 10:43Speaker 2: all of it, the full package. So I think Bud
- 10:46Speaker 2: could catch Canelo. I see it go over the distance.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I don't see either guys getting put down. I see
- 10:51Speaker 2: Bud catching Canelo with some really fast flurry, some really
- 10:55Speaker 2: well timed punches that are gonna really help but dominate
- 11:01Speaker 2: on points. So I think at the end of the
- 11:02Speaker 2: day he's gonna win by decision, is what I would say, but,
- 11:05Speaker 2: but it's hard to say. You know, the end of day,
- 11:08Speaker 2: Canelo is a bigger slab of beef.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Than buddets that and if Crawford has come up fourteen
- 11:14Speaker 3: pounds to get the one sixty eight, so that I
- 11:17Speaker 3: don't know how that works because normally when you come
- 11:20Speaker 3: up that much and weight, your speed is not the
- 11:22Speaker 3: same and also your power is not the same. So
- 11:25Speaker 3: if that does happen, yes, the payday is great, but
- 11:28Speaker 3: the chances of winning are way different. If you told
- 11:30Speaker 3: me Buzz at one fifty four even one sixty, I
- 11:33Speaker 3: would you know. I'm like, okay, Bud got a shot here.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Like that can make sense. So that's why it's very
- 11:38Speaker 3: fascinating to see at what w are you referring to. That's,
- 11:43Speaker 3: to me is the bigger, bigger question because that would
- 11:46Speaker 3: pretty much determine the fight in my eyes, because Canel
- 11:49Speaker 3: is going to be favored regardless no matter what weight
- 11:52Speaker 3: they fight at, no matter of situations, for obvious reasons.
- 11:54Speaker 3: A lot of the favorites, it's not about who's gonna
- 11:56Speaker 3: win or lose. It's about the measure of betting that's
- 11:58Speaker 3: going to come in. So I always want people to
- 12:01Speaker 3: understand that when it comes to the betting line being set,
- 12:05Speaker 3: it's not about Vegas things, this person's gonna win or lose.
- 12:07Speaker 3: It's more about, Hey, we think the betting is gonna
- 12:10Speaker 3: go this way, we want to make sure it gets
- 12:13Speaker 3: spent a certain way. So that's why the betting line
- 12:15Speaker 3: getting set. So the betting lines at Canelo minus one eighty,
- 12:19Speaker 3: meaning that you got to bet one hundred and eighty
- 12:21Speaker 3: dollars to one one hundred. It's for a reason, So
- 12:24Speaker 3: just an fy with that being said, However, Terrence Crawford
- 12:28Speaker 3: as an underdog, he's proven it before.
- 12:30Speaker 4: He's definitely a live dog.
- 12:31Speaker 3: And if he's a guy that's gonna be underdog, a
- 12:34Speaker 3: lot people are gonna take that chance. However, I will
- 12:36Speaker 3: say man fighting a bigger guy that's also skilled is
- 12:40Speaker 3: a very tough task because, as you mentioned, Brawford kind
- 12:43Speaker 3: of struggle in the last fight.
- 12:45Speaker 4: It was it wasn't the same walking to Parkers he's.
- 12:47Speaker 3: At in other fights, and that was very interesting to
- 12:50Speaker 3: see how it all turned out. So something to take
- 12:54Speaker 3: a look at, some to look out for in the
- 12:56Speaker 3: future to the fight's gonna happen. I just think that
- 12:58Speaker 3: there's way too much of money on the lawn. And
- 13:00Speaker 3: whenever there's this much money, we normally get it. Now
- 13:04Speaker 3: here's the thing. We might get it eighteen months from now,
- 13:06Speaker 3: we might get it in May of twenty six, but
- 13:10Speaker 3: we don't get it eventually because well, the fights are
- 13:12Speaker 3: there to be made back to you put in the
- 13:14Speaker 3: football stadium.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I don't know, I mean, nobody's been excited. I haven't
- 13:18Speaker 2: been excited about Tyson Furry fight in years, honestly, and
- 13:22Speaker 2: h yeah, we're good on him. Here's the thing, and
- 13:25Speaker 2: you know, let me just make it clear, Canelo is
- 13:27Speaker 2: my favorite fighter. And I'm actually even drinking the Canelo's
- 13:31Speaker 2: brand of can cocktails VMC, which stands for Viva Michill Covering.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Is there not sponsored alcohol? Got it? It's a tequila cocktail.
- 13:38Speaker 2: It's five point five. So I got like three more
- 13:40Speaker 2: here to kind of make them a decent meal. But
- 13:42Speaker 2: they're not sponsored. But if they want to reach out
- 13:44Speaker 2: to us, please v MC give us a call. We'll talk,
- 13:47Speaker 2: you know, or just give me some some of these
- 13:49Speaker 2: ships for free.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Like I'm hung without to be honest with you, but
- 13:52Speaker 3: I got you one of the masks on a Thursday afternoon, baby.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, but no, I mean, look, I would saying
- 14:00Speaker 2: not by saying that Teller is my favorite fighter. But
- 14:02Speaker 2: my man is riding high, and I don't I don't
- 14:05Speaker 2: see him moving down in wait to to meet Bud.
- 14:08Speaker 2: He his attitude, I think is gonna be you want
- 14:10Speaker 2: to fight me, you come up to me, to my level.
- 14:13Speaker 2: So I don't see him cutting in. I don't see
- 14:15Speaker 2: him cutting out for the money. He doesn't really need it.
- 14:18Speaker 4: I I don't.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I don't see him putting in a lot of effort
- 14:20Speaker 2: other than saying yes, I'll take it if you meet
- 14:23Speaker 2: all of my uh my expectations. I guess he'd.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Say no, no. I heard he's like like Floyd say,
- 14:29Speaker 4: he is the A side.
- 14:30Speaker 3: So when you're the A side, you set the demands,
- 14:33Speaker 3: you're the money like as Brandon the Boxer's tan sprawl
- 14:35Speaker 3: for his the last two fights are his biggest fights
- 14:38Speaker 3: I've ever had, money wise, like he has been fighting
- 14:41Speaker 3: on Friday Night fights on ESPN and uh non paper
- 14:45Speaker 3: view on ESPN. So it's not a whole lot of
- 14:48Speaker 3: you know, star power in terms of.
- 14:51Speaker 4: A wide range of audience.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Boxing fans love him and have been known him for
- 14:55Speaker 3: a long time, But in terms of the average person,
- 14:58Speaker 3: she don't have that kind of draw, so he would
- 15:00Speaker 3: have to basically submit to whatever Camelo demands and negotiation
- 15:05Speaker 3: to a reasonable extent. So that's why it's very fascinating
- 15:09Speaker 3: how this can possibly go. However, with all that being said,
- 15:14Speaker 3: boxing's interesting thing. You never know what may happen. You
- 15:17Speaker 3: never know what someone's situation is behind the scenes to
- 15:19Speaker 3: get something done or to not get something done, so
- 15:22Speaker 3: nothing would surprise me. It just feels like, hey man,
- 15:25Speaker 3: we've got a lot going on in our world right now,
- 15:29Speaker 3: and if you have a guaranteed large payday, it feels
- 15:32Speaker 3: like both sides are be incentivized to do that because
- 15:35Speaker 3: no one turns down nine figures. Bro, I don't care
- 15:38Speaker 3: who you are, because that that ain't gonna be there
- 15:40Speaker 3: that much longer.
- 15:41Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 15:41Speaker 3: There's no one else can a fight to get that
- 15:44Speaker 3: kind of money. It's just not there.
- 15:45Speaker 2: We won't turn down nine figures when the sponsors come
- 15:47Speaker 2: to our door. So let's you know, let's be really
- 15:49Speaker 2: any else. No, I wouldn't turn out free merch right now.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I would have turned out free VMCs.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 2: So to bring it back a little bit wider and
- 15:58Speaker 2: bigger scope. And again for me, people at art as
- 16:01Speaker 2: into the weeks of boxing, What is it about the
- 16:03Speaker 2: sport that you love? Jameson the what is it about
- 16:05Speaker 2: that you grew up on it?
- 16:06Speaker 4: That's the thing. When you grow up on it, there's
- 16:08Speaker 4: always gonna be nostalgia.
- 16:10Speaker 3: So and once you grew up on it and you like,
- 16:11Speaker 3: you love it, you just continue to love as things
- 16:14Speaker 3: go on. Now, the one thing I don't like that's
- 16:16Speaker 3: happened over the last fifteen or twenty years is the
- 16:18Speaker 3: business side has taken over the fight side. We talk
- 16:21Speaker 3: more about who's getting paid and who's getting this, who's
- 16:24Speaker 3: the A side and the B side, rather than who's
- 16:26Speaker 3: the better boxer, who what fight should be made. Guys
- 16:29Speaker 3: are not as active and it's unfortunate because we grew
- 16:33Speaker 3: up on boxers boxing And I get it again, promoters
- 16:36Speaker 3: and businesses. Wait, I get it, But there could be
- 16:38Speaker 3: a combination of both. We can have both things. We
- 16:40Speaker 3: can have good business and active fighters.
- 16:43Speaker 4: It's sayings.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Once that PBC came along, we got great business, but
- 16:47Speaker 3: lack of actientativity. For instance, guy Danny Garcia, really good boxer.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I was there for his basically his breakout fight versus American.
- 16:55Speaker 3: He fought once a year for like four or five
- 16:56Speaker 3: years straight, and it's like, wait a minute, you cool
- 16:59Speaker 3: when you not that cool? Like you need to be,
- 17:02Speaker 3: you need to be fighting more. But it's just different,
- 17:04Speaker 3: Like it's just way different. And to be honest with you,
- 17:08Speaker 3: that part has driven a lot of people away from
- 17:09Speaker 3: them sports because they feel like, hey man, why do
- 17:11Speaker 3: I gotta wait eighteen months for my favorite I gotta fight?
- 17:14Speaker 4: And I don't blame them, I understand well.
- 17:17Speaker 2: And uh yeah, I agree with that. I think the
- 17:19Speaker 2: business side and the thing I love about boxing and
- 17:21Speaker 2: the reason I care about it, and I do not
- 17:23Speaker 2: care about any other sport literally, especially team sports, because
- 17:26Speaker 2: I can't be remembering all those team names most of.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Them are birds.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You gotta remember, like all the guys' names and the
- 17:32Speaker 2: team this and that. At the end of the day,
- 17:34Speaker 2: what I love about it and when I think that
- 17:35Speaker 2: would attract people to it if they haven't given it
- 17:38Speaker 2: a shot. At the end of the day, when the
- 17:39Speaker 2: bell rings, none of that shit matters. There's two people
- 17:42Speaker 2: in a ring and that's it. It doesn't matter who
- 17:45Speaker 2: their promoters are, it doesn't matter if they're fighting on
- 17:47Speaker 2: HBO show that all of that melts away and there's
- 17:50Speaker 2: there's no trades, there's no bench. It is in the moment.
- 17:53Speaker 2: You got one minute break, three minute rounds and that's it.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Everything is on the line. So at the end of
- 17:58Speaker 2: the day, yes, the business side is frustrating, but it's
- 18:00Speaker 2: so still so damn pure when you watch a match.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And maybe I'm a little sentimental here talking about it,
- 18:05Speaker 2: but I do the same thing.
- 18:07Speaker 4: I remember being.
- 18:08Speaker 2: A kid watching Judas say sef Ubbz on paper view
- 18:10Speaker 2: the whole entire family get together. My non now was
- 18:13Speaker 2: rooting for Hulio said. I was like a five or
- 18:15Speaker 2: six year old baby, and I couldn't tell you who
- 18:17Speaker 2: we fought or how the fight turned out, but I
- 18:20Speaker 2: remember the vibes. And that's something I think that if
- 18:23Speaker 2: if you're looking for a sport, if you're you're probably
- 18:25Speaker 2: a nerd who has never gotten into sports and you
- 18:28Speaker 2: don't want to worry about you know, think remembering all
- 18:29Speaker 2: those team names. You put a new bee in front
- 18:31Speaker 2: of the NFL. They're talking about first down, second down,
- 18:33Speaker 2: and counting out number of yards you got a I
- 18:37Speaker 2: don't know, there's sixty seconds left on the clock and
- 18:39Speaker 2: we've been here for ten minutes. I say, give boxing
- 18:41Speaker 2: a shot. Put on a match. You don't have to
- 18:43Speaker 2: know who it is. Just watch people do the hardest
- 18:46Speaker 2: war in the world. Participately the hardest ward in the world.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Because you do not play boxing.
- 18:49Speaker 4: So that's you're absolutely crect. You definitely don't play boxing.
- 18:51Speaker 3: But also that's why Tank Davis is the guy that
- 18:56Speaker 3: people watch because he ain't for no decisions.
- 18:58Speaker 4: He's not here for that. He's to get people out
- 19:00Speaker 4: of here.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And I think that from a casual fan, that's what
- 19:03Speaker 3: people want to see. Like I'm not a big UFC guy,
- 19:06Speaker 3: I respect it. They do what they do. Kudos and them.
- 19:09Speaker 3: There's a lot of KOs and submissions in that, and
- 19:11Speaker 3: that's cool. A lot of people complain about boxing is
- 19:14Speaker 3: there's too many decisions. We don't have a lot of KOs.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Like you mentioned, you don't play boxing. Box is a
- 19:20Speaker 3: very strategic sport, so it's a little bit different. However,
- 19:24Speaker 3: the common the average fan that may watch a boxing
- 19:27Speaker 3: match to a year, they want to see somebody get
- 19:29Speaker 3: knocked out. Man, Like, they not here for the twelve
- 19:31Speaker 3: round ude, they not here for that. They don't care
- 19:34Speaker 3: about that. So with all that being said, I understand
- 19:37Speaker 3: where everybody's coming from. However, the best fights we have
- 19:40Speaker 3: are tight thirteens one down to the end. At the
- 19:44Speaker 3: end of the day, when you got a fight like that,
- 19:46Speaker 3: we're go either way, and both guys fought hell of fight.
- 19:49Speaker 3: You really can't replace that, in my opinion, and I
- 19:51Speaker 3: think that's what makes the support of boxing great.
- 19:53Speaker 4: However, the judges and the refs can also deter a
- 19:58Speaker 4: lot of casuals from tuning in, and I understand that
- 20:00Speaker 4: as well, because sometimes we see some robberies they don't
- 20:03Speaker 4: make no sense.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Sure, and I agree with you one hundred percent. Uh yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 2: I don't know. I've never been a big fan of
- 20:10Speaker 2: like I just want to see KOs. You know that
- 20:13Speaker 2: this sport takes skill, it takes athleticism from the top
- 20:17Speaker 2: of your head to their tippy toes, and I think
- 20:19Speaker 2: people don't appreciate it as much they do. Maybe a
- 20:22Speaker 2: lot of casuals do see it. It's just a couple
- 20:24Speaker 2: of guys wailing on each other and just beating the
- 20:26Speaker 2: shit out of each other, you know, and it's it's
- 20:28Speaker 2: it's very easy to dismiss that way, but you know,
- 20:30Speaker 2: if you get into some fights and you see the
- 20:33Speaker 2: actual technical aspects, it's it's it's beautiful. It's absolutely beautiful.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I can't say enough good things about it.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 20:38Speaker 3: And also if, for instance, if Canelo and Crawford do fight,
- 20:43Speaker 3: we really don't need to see no. Two enough fights.
- 20:45Speaker 3: To be honest with you, I don't want to risk
- 20:46Speaker 3: nothing crazy happen. I don't know why getting hurt. I
- 20:48Speaker 3: don't want to nobody getting beat. I don't want to know.
- 20:50Speaker 3: You know, I don't because here's the funny start. When
- 20:53Speaker 3: that all lost Betavidas a couple of years ago. I
- 20:55Speaker 3: remember when I was where I was at. I think
- 20:57Speaker 3: our producer text me like, hey, what's going on. I'm like, yeah, man,
- 21:01Speaker 3: it's kind of wild. We don't need that. When you
- 21:03Speaker 3: got big, when you got this amount of money on
- 21:04Speaker 3: the line, you don't want to risk anything. So, to
- 21:07Speaker 3: be honest with you, if they're gonna do it, I
- 21:09Speaker 3: just want to see it happen. Seton day, get healthy
- 21:12Speaker 3: and let's get rolling.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Sure, we don't want another Beople situation, which again I
- 21:17Speaker 2: do not want to talk about worst night of my life.
- 21:19Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean I think that's a that's a
- 21:21Speaker 2: good primer for the show again for people tune in that. Obviously,
- 21:25Speaker 2: this is the first episode of the spilot episode, so
- 21:28Speaker 2: kind of get putting down the gatlet of what we're
- 21:30Speaker 2: going to talk about. Plus again people who might not
- 21:32Speaker 2: be as into it. Maybe some folks have followed me
- 21:34Speaker 2: from the booze world kind of see what we're getting into.
- 21:38Speaker 2: But I'd like to in the future next week it's
- 21:41Speaker 2: not just talk about specific fights with sport, but again
- 21:44Speaker 2: boxing and pop culture movies and what that means in
- 21:46Speaker 2: the Rochester series. You know, it's something that everybody knows about,
- 21:50Speaker 2: but everybody knows a boxer. Everybody can name at least
- 21:52Speaker 2: one boxer, right absolutely. I don't know that I could
- 21:55Speaker 2: maybe name a current NBA starty that it's in Lebron
- 21:58Speaker 2: is he's still playing.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I'm telling you I want to say I don't care
- 22:00Speaker 2: about sports.
- 22:02Speaker 4: That about good. Are we?
- 22:03Speaker 2: Uh we ready to head out to the bar?
- 22:05Speaker 4: Tamson, Yeah, definitely definitely cool.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Well, if anybody wants to reach out to me, I'm
- 22:11Speaker 2: on Instagram as the Classy Alcoholic, the Classic Alic at Gmail.
- 22:16Speaker 2: I don't have Twitter anymore. I kept going on there
- 22:18Speaker 2: while I was drunk and telling Elon must to kill himself,
- 22:20Speaker 2: so I was them. But we don't need to get
- 22:24Speaker 2: into that. But I'm actually on a new a chef.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Have you heard of Blue Sky Javison. Nah, it's a
- 22:31Speaker 2: it's like a Twitter clone. Great chill. A lot of
- 22:35Speaker 2: scumbags on there, So if any of you are interested
- 22:37Speaker 2: in Blue Sky, I'm a classy alcoholic on there both sporadically,
- 22:40Speaker 2: you know, people talking about sports movies, kind of like
- 22:43Speaker 2: the bird app used to be before the unfortunate time.
- 22:45Speaker 2: So where where can we find you? On poscial media?
- 22:48Speaker 3: At Twitter? At the Jamison g H E E J,
- 22:51Speaker 3: I M I S O N. That's the main one
- 22:56Speaker 3: I'm on. I don't need Facebook, you know I do.
- 22:58Speaker 3: That's the main one. So you want to faw me there? Also, Yeah,
- 23:02Speaker 3: and I'm in Vegas so fight weekends and whatever. I'm
- 23:05Speaker 3: always around so definitely can meet up or whatever.
- 23:08Speaker 4: It's not a problem.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Great, Well, I can't say how he tell you how
- 23:11Speaker 2: happy I am to be doing the show with the
- 23:12Speaker 2: guy that's named after whiskey. So I'm s.
- 23:16Speaker 4: This is great.
- 23:16Speaker 2: There's a lot of fun. Let's let's do this again.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Definitely most definitely f
