- 1:54Speaker 1: in black and White on the website checkout vet dot com.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That's check out Vet. We're else going to talk pat
- 2:01Speaker 1: nutrition because doctor, you were in France. Now it's a
- 2:05Speaker 1: working it's a working getaway, so there's there's stuff there too.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But a trip go well overall it was great.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yea, everything went off without a hit, so it was wonderful.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I had a chance to go over to France with
- 2:19Speaker 2: my husband and we spent a couple of extra days there,
- 2:21Speaker 2: so yes we went. Because Royal canaan a rail canon,
- 2:26Speaker 2: as they say it in France. It is based out
- 2:29Speaker 2: of France. The veterinarian that started that company in the
- 2:32Speaker 2: nineteen sixties was in the south of France, and he,
- 2:36Speaker 2: similar to other pet food companies, started it because he
- 2:39Speaker 2: had a dog with a problem. His dog had skin problems.
- 2:41Speaker 2: He was a veterinarian. He said, well, let's see if
- 2:43Speaker 2: we can fix this with nutrition. So he made his
- 2:46Speaker 2: first bag of dog food and from there it has
- 2:49Speaker 2: grown into a multimillion dollar five continent country. So it's
- 2:54Speaker 2: a company. It's a pretty impressive place to be. The
- 2:57Speaker 2: science behind their diet is absolutely second to none, so
- 3:02Speaker 2: it was a really interesting and educational trip. We got
- 3:05Speaker 2: to tour the factory, we got to hear from the
- 3:07Speaker 2: scientists that developed the products, sat down literally next to
- 3:12Speaker 2: the scientists that developed their new bro biotic products, literally
- 3:16Speaker 2: sat next to her at dinner, and then sat next
- 3:18Speaker 2: to her for another hour. Me to me with her
- 3:21Speaker 2: so that I could really understand the product.
- 3:24Speaker 1: What I what I find interesting, Doc is in something
- 3:26Speaker 1: I know you've you've talked about on the program. Is
- 3:30Speaker 1: for a lot of pet owners, we assume, like you know,
- 3:33Speaker 1: kind of getting back to basics, like you hear about
- 3:35Speaker 1: raw diets and other things. I think a lot of
- 3:37Speaker 1: a lot of pet owners think, well, clearly because it's
- 3:40Speaker 1: more effort and it's it seems to quote unquote more
- 3:43Speaker 1: natural that this, that that must be the way to go.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I remember a few months ago we had talked a
- 3:49Speaker 1: little bit about nutrition and pet pet died and you
- 3:52Speaker 1: had said kibble, kibble, gibble is the best thing for
- 3:54Speaker 1: your pet. And to me, it's like, oh, really, so
- 3:57Speaker 1: I've been doing livery Uh. Not only is kibble quite convenient,
- 4:01Speaker 1: but as you were talking about there in your tour,
- 4:04Speaker 1: it's it's very very well formulated and it's really for
- 4:08Speaker 1: most pets the best thing it.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Is because you've got a really well balanced diet that
- 4:13Speaker 2: millions of millions of dollars of them put into to
- 4:16Speaker 2: make sure that the nutritional components are absolutely pomp notched.
- 4:20Speaker 2: The vitamins and nutrition, the fibers, the protein, the carbohydrates,
- 4:25Speaker 2: the fat, all of them are really well done. We
- 4:28Speaker 2: got to tour through the factory and when kibble is made.
- 4:31Speaker 2: It was really interesting to me they talk about this
- 4:33Speaker 2: high temperature that they cook the food at. Do you
- 4:36Speaker 2: know what the temperature is that they processed the food at.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It's one hundred and fifty degrees bahrenheit. Oh, you can't
- 4:42Speaker 2: even make your ovens go to one hundred and fifty
- 4:45Speaker 2: degrees it's always going to be two hundred or higher.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So it's not like they're putting it into an incinerator
- 4:51Speaker 2: and you know, heating it up to that kind of
- 4:53Speaker 2: a temperature. So they are cooked, but they're not cooked
- 4:57Speaker 2: at at extremely high temperature. And what was really two
- 5:00Speaker 2: is that Roilcnan make a number of different diets. Of course,
- 5:04Speaker 2: they make therapeutic diets that you can get through your veterinarian.
- 5:06Speaker 2: They make breeder diets, but they also make dog food
- 5:10Speaker 2: that specific breeds to breed, and I thought that was
- 5:13Speaker 2: so fascinating to see because people think that they just
- 5:16Speaker 2: like made it into a different shape, but that isn't true.
- 5:19Speaker 2: They do make different shapes. They make forty different shapes.
- 5:22Speaker 2: They have different dyes that they put on the machine,
- 5:23Speaker 2: and we saw them fixing a machine and changing the dye,
- 5:25Speaker 2: and so the shapes of the machine are different. Just
- 5:28Speaker 2: like when you make your cookies. That cookie press that
- 5:31Speaker 2: you do at Christmas time makes different shapes. That's how
- 5:34Speaker 2: they do that, is they extrude the food through those
- 5:37Speaker 2: different dyes and their different shapes. So labrador food has
- 5:39Speaker 2: a hole through the middle of it, because we know
- 5:41Speaker 2: labradors don't like to chew their food. They like to
- 5:44Speaker 2: swallow it best as as they possibly can hole, so
- 5:47Speaker 2: by making the hole in the middle of it, they
- 5:49Speaker 2: have to stop and chew their food. Bulldog food is
- 5:52Speaker 2: made so that they can pick it up off the
- 5:53Speaker 2: bottom of the bowl because Frenchies and bulldogs and pugs
- 5:56Speaker 2: and the other short face breakycephalic dogs have a difficult
- 5:59Speaker 2: time I'm getting their face down to the food. Persian
- 6:03Speaker 2: cats the same kind of a situation is that they
- 6:05Speaker 2: make the food inful shape that's easier for those dogs
- 6:09Speaker 2: to pick up. And then of course the other foods
- 6:11Speaker 2: have formulations that are based on the dogs specific nutritional needs.
- 6:15Speaker 2: German shepherds they get diarrhea. Like if you look at
- 6:20Speaker 2: highly digestible diet for German shepherds and other dogs that
- 6:24Speaker 2: have those issues docs and diet, they're going to make
- 6:26Speaker 2: a corky diet now. But I've been using this docin
- 6:29Speaker 2: diet for Corgi's because they're long, low dogs that tend
- 6:32Speaker 2: to carry a little extra weight if they possibly can,
- 6:35Speaker 2: they like to get back. So they formulate the foods
- 6:39Speaker 2: not only based on the shape of the kibble, but
- 6:40Speaker 2: the nutritional components as well. And I think a lot
- 6:43Speaker 2: of people get hung up when they read food labels
- 6:46Speaker 2: because they've been marketed to very effectively from other companies
- 6:50Speaker 2: who will remain unnamed. But when you watch the commercials
- 6:53Speaker 2: or see the information on the commercials, they talk about
- 6:57Speaker 2: the ingredient list, which you really need to see the
- 6:59Speaker 2: nutrient profile. And that's a lot harder as a consumer
- 7:03Speaker 2: to understand, because you know, you may not have a
- 7:05Speaker 2: science background. You might you might not. If you do, great,
- 7:08Speaker 2: you can read it. If you don't, then you kind
- 7:10Speaker 2: of feel like there's all these words on there that
- 7:12Speaker 2: you don't even understand what they mean. But what they're
- 7:15Speaker 2: actually saying is what you need to look at is
- 7:18Speaker 2: what's the fat content, the protein content, the carbohydrates, what
- 7:23Speaker 2: the vitamin and mineral balance are All those things need
- 7:26Speaker 2: to be formulated correctly because some TEP foods may have
- 7:29Speaker 2: a nutritional component that's lacking and some may be an excess.
- 7:33Speaker 2: And that's one of the biggest problems with people that
- 7:35Speaker 2: make their own diets is not following a recipe correctly.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Doctor. One of the things that's really I just find
- 7:43Speaker 1: this like that food sign and the nutritional profile and
- 7:46Speaker 1: stuff very fascinating. As you mentioned as for I'll use
- 7:50Speaker 1: myself as an example. It's all Greek to me. I
- 7:54Speaker 1: see that stuff and get I get kind of like confused,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and I am like many folks. I see marketing and
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'll see things like you know, I'll see things like
- 8:02Speaker 1: corn or grains or wheat, gluten and these type of things,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and like the marketing says, oh my goodness, that stuff
- 8:09Speaker 1: is just terrible. The reality is these are things that
- 8:12Speaker 1: are that are you know, they are important ingredients to
- 8:15Speaker 1: do a diet.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yes, our dogs need carbohydrates. Almost tell dogs need them.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So there are very few dogs that are going to
- 8:25Speaker 2: have any harm done to them by eating carbohydrates. And frankly,
- 8:29Speaker 2: if they look at corn, corn is a good product
- 8:31Speaker 2: for protein, for fat, and for carbohydrates. It's a very
- 8:34Speaker 2: complete food. And so people get overwhelmed by what they've
- 8:40Speaker 2: seen on commercials on TV or what they look on
- 8:42Speaker 2: the internet and that kind of thing. So that's where
- 8:44Speaker 2: you really have to stop reading. And you know, the
- 8:49Speaker 2: language on the label corn is corn is corn. I
- 8:52Speaker 2: don't care how they classify it. Chicken is chicken is chicken.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I don't care. People are like, oh, they put in
- 8:56Speaker 2: beaks and feathers, No, they don't. Beaks and feathers don't
- 8:59Speaker 2: go in pet food. And the chicken feet are so
- 9:02Speaker 2: valuable on the ethnic markets for part of their food
- 9:05Speaker 2: supply that they don't go into pet food. They are
- 9:08Speaker 2: too expensive put in there. They're really you know, you
- 9:11Speaker 2: see those at the markets when you go into you know,
- 9:14Speaker 2: ethnic grocery stores. They sell those to people to put
- 9:18Speaker 2: into their soup. There's nothing wrong with eating them, but
- 9:21Speaker 2: they don't put those into the pet foods. So That's
- 9:23Speaker 2: what you really have to understand is that a lot
- 9:26Speaker 2: of it is lingo and not a lot of it
- 9:28Speaker 2: is science. So you really want to look to the
- 9:31Speaker 2: three big companies that have the science behind them, and
- 9:34Speaker 2: that's going to be Royal, Canaan, which is also Yuknubo, Wealthome,
- 9:38Speaker 2: and Pedigree. Those are all under that same umbrella. Then
- 9:42Speaker 2: there's Purina and then there's Hills. So those are the
- 9:45Speaker 2: three companies that as veterinarians we know we can rely
- 9:48Speaker 2: on their science to develop pet foods that are specifically
- 9:51Speaker 2: therapeutic for certain conditions, and then that therapeutic information fills
- 9:56Speaker 2: over into the pet foods that we can buy for
- 9:58Speaker 2: our pets. So they make diet that are good for
- 10:00Speaker 2: pets with their thritis and pets that have cognitive dysfunction
- 10:03Speaker 2: and sets a GI upset, problems with their skin, and
- 10:07Speaker 2: you know, all these different heart disease, liver disease, all
- 10:11Speaker 2: these therapeutic diets that we have for our pets. They
- 10:13Speaker 2: take the same science and say, well, if this is
- 10:16Speaker 2: good for a pet and a therapeutic diet, and it's
- 10:18Speaker 2: good for our thritis, why don't we put it into
- 10:20Speaker 2: the pet food for our senior diet, So you're going
- 10:22Speaker 2: to see that kind of science filling over into royal
- 10:25Speaker 2: canaan foods that are available commercially without a prescription. And
- 10:29Speaker 2: then there's the other question that people have as well,
- 10:32Speaker 2: why do I have to have a prescription to buy
- 10:34Speaker 2: dog foods? Well, if it's a therapeutic diet for a
- 10:36Speaker 2: dog or a cat, we want to make sure you're
- 10:38Speaker 2: getting the correct therapeutic diet. So it's only going to
- 10:40Speaker 2: come from a veterinarian prescription. You don't want to go
- 10:44Speaker 2: to the pet store. And if you're pet's supposed to
- 10:46Speaker 2: be on a heart diet instead by an intestinal diet,
- 10:48Speaker 2: or if it's sposed to be on a bladder diet,
- 10:50Speaker 2: that buy a skin diet and that could be really
- 10:52Speaker 2: confusing as consumers. So veterinarians do need to retain the
- 10:55Speaker 2: control of which diets are the right one. If your
- 10:59Speaker 2: pet is on therapeutic diet. I mean, there's some really
- 11:02Speaker 2: cool diets health there. There's things we can do with
- 11:04Speaker 2: nutrition that I wish we could do on the human
- 11:07Speaker 2: side to help with nutrition. There's a diet for all
- 11:11Speaker 2: kinds of things that we can control, and by controlling
- 11:13Speaker 2: their food, it really significantly reduces the symptoms that a
- 11:17Speaker 2: pet has and the number of drugs and other therapies
- 11:20Speaker 2: that we have to provide to the pet because we
- 11:22Speaker 2: can approach it nutritionally. It's really exciting to have that
- 11:25Speaker 2: kind of science.
- 11:26Speaker 1: It's pretty amazing. And you mentioned too, and one of
- 11:28Speaker 1: the you know, I think one of the the kind
- 11:30Speaker 1: of dreaming of things like this for people is we
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, we we tend to go for the convenience
- 11:37Speaker 1: and ease of things and maybe make court. It's a
- 11:39Speaker 1: nice thing about with your pet is you're managing that
- 11:41Speaker 1: stuff and you can really you know, working with your
- 11:44Speaker 1: vet and really fine tune that absolute ideal diet for
- 11:48Speaker 1: not just overall health, but longevity and quality of life.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And it's an important conversation to be having with your vet.
- 11:54Speaker 1: It's a great day. If you are looking for a vet,
- 11:56Speaker 1: you want to start a relationship, you want to learn
- 11:57Speaker 1: more about, checkout Veterinary definitely, or you head on over
- 12:00Speaker 1: to the website check out vet dot com. That's checkout
- 12:03Speaker 1: vet dot com. Pick up phone and a call six
- 12:06Speaker 1: oh eight three one eight sixty seven hundred. That's six
- 12:08Speaker 1: oh eight three one eight sixty seven hundred or stop
- 12:11Speaker 1: on end. They'd love to see you right at twenty
- 12:13Speaker 1: seven to ten Prairie Lakes Drive and sun Prairie. Very
- 12:15Speaker 1: convenient to get to. At Checkout Veterinary again, they are
- 12:19Speaker 1: right in sun Prairie. It's right off the highway, right
- 12:21Speaker 1: off the interstate. It's a it's a really really convenient location,
- 12:24Speaker 1: a really really convenient model as well at check out
- 12:27Speaker 1: vet Doctor Greer too. One thing too about about about
- 12:31Speaker 1: food choices for your pet. I know some breeds like
- 12:35Speaker 1: maybe you have a lab and it'll eat a whole
- 12:37Speaker 1: frozen potpie off the counter.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Yeah, as an example, Yeah.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Very specific. Are there certain breeds and I think I
- 12:46Speaker 1: feel like labs and beagles. I hear a lot about
- 12:48Speaker 1: with dogs that that really have very poor control when
- 12:52Speaker 1: it comes to portions.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Am i am? I am?
- 12:55Speaker 1: I seeing that right?
- 12:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I would probably classify gold Retrievers, Temper Gloss, Corgies,
- 13:02Speaker 2: a lot of other breeds into that category. I mean,
- 13:04Speaker 2: if I left forty pounds of dog food for my dogs,
- 13:06Speaker 2: they would eat forty four pounds. They would vanish eat
- 13:09Speaker 2: that in the bag. So yeah, you have to be
- 13:11Speaker 2: pretty aware that pets don't have impulse control. But Frankly,
- 13:14Speaker 2: a lot of us don't do a very good job.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So yeah, I know, it's really not entirely their fault.
- 13:19Speaker 2: When the food tastes good and it's available, they're they're
- 13:23Speaker 2: going to take advantage of it. So you can't leave
- 13:25Speaker 2: your steak on the counter falling out. You know that
- 13:27Speaker 2: thing on your countertop that has a little handle on it,
- 13:29Speaker 2: a little digital pad that you push to eat up
- 13:32Speaker 2: your food, that's actually a food storage device. When you're
- 13:35Speaker 2: trying to saw out meat or put you know, leave
- 13:37Speaker 2: a loaf of bread on the counter. Don't leave it
- 13:39Speaker 2: on the counter because if your dog is tall, they're
- 13:42Speaker 2: going to countersurf and find it. And if they're short,
- 13:44Speaker 2: they're going to push the chair over there and so
- 13:46Speaker 2: get in to it. So I've had I've had one
- 13:48Speaker 2: of my corgies standing in the middle of my kitchen
- 13:50Speaker 2: table snacking. So just be really aware that our pets
- 13:55Speaker 2: don't have the conscience and the impulse control that it
- 13:58Speaker 2: takes to leave those things avone. I've had people, you know,
- 14:00Speaker 2: like lose an entire day of fishing, catch catch a fish,
- 14:04Speaker 2: and entire rip roath. I mean, you know, if a
- 14:06Speaker 2: dog can get to it. They're gonna take full advantage
- 14:08Speaker 2: of that opportunity, and that's not healthy for them to
- 14:11Speaker 2: eat that, and it kind of messes up your dinner plan.
- 14:14Speaker 1: It's sure do really really insight from doctor Mardy Greer
- 14:18Speaker 1: this morning of check out Veterinary the website checkout vet
- 14:21Speaker 1: dot com. That's check out vet dot com. One thing,
- 14:24Speaker 1: one final thing I wanted to ask you about as well,
- 14:26Speaker 1: is along those lines with with you know, with obviously,
- 14:29Speaker 1: if if they have access, they're gonna they're gonna eat
- 14:32Speaker 1: it if they like it. I know. Obviously portion control
- 14:35Speaker 1: is big. Are there tricks or techniques to eat that
- 14:38Speaker 1: gets gets your pets to eat a little bit more
- 14:40Speaker 1: better pacing so to say, so they're not just scarfing
- 14:43Speaker 1: it all down. And you know, if you're away for
- 14:46Speaker 1: work for eight hours a day, uh, you want them
- 14:49Speaker 1: to kind of have like a steady intake the proper
- 14:51Speaker 1: intake of food. Are their techniques or things people can
- 14:53Speaker 1: be looking at to keep that keep that on task.
- 14:56Speaker 2: There are I mean, you can buy slow feeders and
- 14:58Speaker 2: there are some dogs that you really well with those
- 15:01Speaker 2: that just naturally they have some obstacles in them to
- 15:03Speaker 2: slow down the pet seating but again the break these
- 15:05Speaker 2: tophalic dogs, the bulldogs, the front sheets, the sheets who
- 15:08Speaker 2: some of those darts are going to have a difficult
- 15:10Speaker 2: time because of their face shape. They're not going to
- 15:12Speaker 2: be able to pick up any food. So instead of
- 15:14Speaker 2: blowing them down, you're going to halt their food altogether.
- 15:17Speaker 2: You can feed them on something large, like a cookie
- 15:19Speaker 2: sheet or a roasting pants, so you can just go
- 15:21Speaker 2: to the dollar store and buy some larger pan to
- 15:24Speaker 2: feed them in instead of a little bowl, so they can't
- 15:26Speaker 2: shoubble the food in as quickly. My favorite trick is
- 15:29Speaker 2: to take a muffin tin and metal one not a
- 15:31Speaker 2: silicon line, and mix your dog's food with chicken broth
- 15:34Speaker 2: or yogurt or something, then pop that in the freezer
- 15:37Speaker 2: so that they have these little cup size and then
- 15:39Speaker 2: feed them right out of that metal tins. And of
- 15:42Speaker 2: course you want to measure the amount of food so
- 15:44Speaker 2: you're not increasingly not if it's a twelve hole smuffins,
- 15:46Speaker 2: and you don't have to feel obligated to fill all
- 15:48Speaker 2: twelve holes. But by doing that, you're going to have
- 15:51Speaker 2: it frozen and they're going to look at it and
- 15:53Speaker 2: slowly as it melts they're going to eat eat their food,
- 15:56Speaker 2: so we don't want to increase their caloric intake, but
- 15:58Speaker 2: we do want to slow them down. And that's a
- 15:59Speaker 2: really inexpensive way to do it. By cho Muff and
- 16:01Speaker 2: Tim one to pop in the dishwasher on the freezer,
- 16:04Speaker 2: you've always got that meal aheads frozen. And it's a
- 16:07Speaker 2: very simple technique and it works really well. It keeps
- 16:10Speaker 2: the dog much busier for a longer period of time.
- 16:12Speaker 2: So instead of taking thirty seconds to eat, it makes
- 16:15Speaker 2: them take them two hours, which is I mean, we
- 16:17Speaker 2: all like to eat. So the flurry you go, the
- 16:19Speaker 2: more enjoyment you get out of it, because spend more.

- 17:45Speaker 1: well what about Thursday, Well, the great news is check
- 17:47Speaker 1: in vet. The sister clinic for Checkout Veterinary is open
- 17:50Speaker 1: Monday through Friday, so yeah, they've got you covered seven
- 17:53Speaker 1: days a week and doctor One final thing, as we've
- 17:56Speaker 1: been talking about talking about pet food and the prom
- 18:00Speaker 1: or diet for your pat and I know we've touched
- 18:02Speaker 1: a little bit on cats, but cat's diet is very
- 18:07Speaker 1: very important to them as well. I feel like sometimes
- 18:10Speaker 1: kitties kind of get the kind of take a back
- 18:12Speaker 1: seat to some of this stuff, but really, having a
- 18:15Speaker 1: quality pet food for your cat, the benefits are enormous,
- 18:20Speaker 1: aren't they.
- 18:21Speaker 2: They are, And especially as our cats are aging, we
- 18:24Speaker 2: see probably thirty percent of the cats that we see
- 18:27Speaker 2: as older cats elderly twelve thirteen and older end up
- 18:30Speaker 2: with kidney problems. And there were some really important work
- 18:33Speaker 2: done a few years ago that shows that the kidney
- 18:35Speaker 2: diets that you can get from the prescription diet companies
- 18:39Speaker 2: extend the life of our pets by several years when
- 18:42Speaker 2: they're cats on a kidney diet that's appropriate for them.
- 18:45Speaker 2: So I think it's important that people follow those directions.
- 18:48Speaker 2: And it can require a little bit of work to
- 18:49Speaker 2: find a food that your pet likes. So if your
- 18:52Speaker 2: pets doesn't like one of the first therapeutic diets that
- 18:54Speaker 2: your veterinarian puts them on. You have two other good
- 18:57Speaker 2: companies for choices. Like I said, we have Rocanan, Purina
- 19:00Speaker 2: and Hills, So we have those three therapeutic line and
- 19:04Speaker 2: if you're really attentive and you just try some of
- 19:06Speaker 2: the different cans and different dry foods, you're going to
- 19:08Speaker 2: find something that your cat is probably gonna like to eat.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Cats as they get older, get fussier. They're already fussy,
- 19:14Speaker 2: and as they go into kidney failure they even get worse,
- 19:16Speaker 2: so it can take some work. We also have a
- 19:18Speaker 2: couple of good drugs on the market now. One that's
- 19:21Speaker 2: applied is a gel inside the ear called Miertaz, and
- 19:23Speaker 2: the other that's given orally as a liquid called the Lura,
- 19:27Speaker 2: and those will improve the appetite of the dogs and cats.
- 19:30Speaker 2: So if you're struggling with a pet that older has cancer,
- 19:33Speaker 2: has kidney disease, has some other condition that's causing them
- 19:36Speaker 2: to not eat as well as they should and as
- 19:38Speaker 2: a result they're losing body conditions and losing weight, those
- 19:41Speaker 2: are drugs that you should be speaking to your veterinarian about.
- 19:43Speaker 2: They come for both dogs and cats. The dog's form
- 19:46Speaker 2: is enticed to cat form as a lura and then
- 19:48Speaker 2: we're Tazzuppene comes to tablets for dogs. So we have
- 19:50Speaker 2: some good drug choices that we can really use that
- 19:53Speaker 2: make a difference in the life of our pets.
- 19:56Speaker 1: As we talk too, as we talk about just overall
- 19:59Speaker 1: improvements in the earth your pet's life. Obviously, we all
- 20:02Speaker 1: love to pamper our pets, and today being National your
- 20:05Speaker 1: Love your Pet Day, and obviously taking good care of them,
- 20:09Speaker 1: giving them good healthy food, getting them into see their
- 20:11Speaker 1: vet regularly. All good things are there? Are there some
- 20:13Speaker 1: treats that are better than others for your pet or
- 20:16Speaker 1: what should people be thinking about their doctor?
- 20:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and there's definitely treats on the market that
- 20:21Speaker 2: are low calorie. If you're struggling with pets weight, you
- 20:24Speaker 2: can purchase those. Cheerios make great treats. Fresh foots and
- 20:28Speaker 2: vegetables other than grapes and raisins are great truths for
- 20:31Speaker 2: our dogs. Some cattle eat some of those as well,
- 20:33Speaker 2: like compskins. So you can find some low calorie, high fiber,
- 20:37Speaker 2: healthy diet supplements that you can give to your pets.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Of course, you know if it's their birthday or it's Christmas.
- 20:44Speaker 2: You may want to go buy a special can of food.
- 20:46Speaker 2: There's some really fun ones on the market that you
- 20:47Speaker 2: can get, but try to stick to something that's going
- 20:50Speaker 2: to be ninety percent or more commercial pet food and
- 20:53Speaker 2: ten percent or less something that you supplement with so
- 20:55Speaker 2: that you don't throw off that nutritional balance that those
- 20:58Speaker 2: pet food companies that's so much money developing. So I
- 21:02Speaker 2: think it's important that we do those things. And of course,
- 21:04Speaker 2: you know, everybody wants to let them lick out the
- 21:06Speaker 2: bull of cereal or the ice cream, or you know,
- 21:08Speaker 2: have that little snibble off the end of the dinner
- 21:10Speaker 2: at night. So just be thoughtful about what you're getting.
- 21:14Speaker 2: And something too high and fat, something that the bone
- 21:17Speaker 2: could be dangerous, something too spicy can't be good for them.
- 21:20Speaker 2: And like I said, grapes raisin. Of course, we all
- 21:23Speaker 2: know about chocolate. There's definitely things that are out there
- 21:25Speaker 2: that we shouldn't be sharing with our pets, sugar, the
- 21:27Speaker 2: stumma candies. But a lot of the things we eat
- 21:30Speaker 2: are absolutely fine. Macademian uts are not. But there's a
- 21:33Speaker 2: lot of things we can share with our pets that
- 21:34Speaker 2: are fine and It makes it kind of fun, especially
- 21:37Speaker 2: if you live by yourself. You know, you know, you
- 21:40Speaker 2: have some companionship when you're having a meal. So it's
- 21:43Speaker 2: fun to have those opportunities because nothing says love more
- 21:46Speaker 2: than here, here's something delicious.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, doctor, It's always great chatting with you. Great
- 21:53Speaker 1: to have you back, and we'll do this all again
- 21:55Speaker 1: in a seven days. Sounds great, doctor, Mardy Greer of
