- 0:45Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast.
- 0:49I am Curtis Wilson, I'm Brian sigla and buddy.
- 0:52We have a big guest on with us tonight.
- 0:55Owner creator of pick six, previews bread ciancia is with
- 1:00us tonight. Brett, how you doing?
- 1:02Hey, Brian, Curtis, thanks for having me on again.
- 1:04We had a great preview chat last time last summer and I love the
- 1:08intro there. I was ready for Enter Sandman to
- 1:11start pumping through the speaker's here, but if not To
- 1:15get back, talking, Virginia Tech with you guys.
- 1:17And I'm very passionate fan base.
- 1:18So going through a big coaching transition, I had a chance to
- 1:22talk with Brent pry, and we'll get into that in the Virginia
- 1:24Tech portion of the show, but excited to be back, also.
- 1:28Yeah, man. If we, if we did saying, man, we
- 1:31might be getting a like a season two sisters from Metallica so we
- 1:35didn't go that. That's our buddy.
- 1:37Jason who lives down in Roanoke, right?
- 1:39Near Virginia Tech does all our music Force, but you know, it's
- 1:42awesome that you got two here are taught to talk to Ha and
- 1:45let's go ahead and kick it off, man.
- 1:47You know print prai has had a ton of success as a defensive
- 1:50coordinator. Both advancer built at Penn
- 1:52State and when you're dealing with the team, with a brand new
- 1:55head coach, how do you take into account a first-time CAD coach
- 2:00that has done as much as he did? You know, multiple top-10
- 2:03defense has every stop. He's been at the defense first
- 2:07year improved significantly. How do you look at that when
- 2:10you're doing this sort of preview?
- 2:13Yeah, well, coaching changes are I Most Fascinating part of the
- 2:16offseason. And in fact, this is one of the
- 2:17biggest coaching carousels ever and it's my 11th year.
- 2:20Doing picks previews by far, the most coaching transition we saw
- 2:24this all season and yeah, Brent /.
- 2:26I had a chance to speak with him like you said really likable guy
- 2:29on the phone you know talked about the importance of getting
- 2:32back to recruiting in-state seeing how that slipped off last
- 2:36couple of years and the last staff, but bringing back that
- 2:38Virginia core of the roster. But then also, to answer your
- 2:42question, what's important about a new coach A new coaching hire
- 2:46his hires his coordinator hires are crucial and looking at
- 2:49offense. It's almost like he got a
- 2:51two-for-one deal. Bring it in Bowen there and then
- 2:54also Joe Rudolph. The, the offensive line coach
- 2:57from Wisconsin. That's a great double double
- 3:00whammy there. So love the The Hires on offense
- 3:04and he has a proven track record on defense himself.
- 3:07Leading consecutive top-10 defense has at Penn State,
- 3:10they've been pretty much a staple and defensively last five
- 3:14years under him. So I think you're going to see
- 3:16more of that aggressive attacking style of play, come to
- 3:19Virginia Tech. He'll figure out that side of
- 3:21the ball will be with Chris Marva, foreign player of his and
- 3:25then hand the keys over the offense.
- 3:26These experienced guys, and one yeah, bones little bit younger,
- 3:28but Rudolph nose, you know, offensive line, play more than
- 3:32anybody. So I like The Hires, he's made.
- 3:36Yeah, and Bowens obviously, you know, had some quasi
- 3:40play-calling responsibilities under a couple other big names
- 3:43there as well, so you got to feel Pretty confident about
- 3:46that. Let's let's take a look at that
- 3:49offense though. While we're talking about Tyler
- 3:50Boeing kind of a similar question to the pry one we've
- 3:54got a portal transfer quarterback in.
- 3:59Grant Wells coming in with experience, pretty good amount
- 4:03of experience but that experience came with the, with a
- 4:06different team and in a weaker conference, how do you really
- 4:10way that when you're looking at, you know, that versus what The
- 4:15team did last season with a completely different
- 4:19quarterback. That's no longer with us in the
- 4:20completely different offense. Yeah.
- 4:23So it's going to be a definitely a quarterback battle.
- 4:26Their Grant Wells and Jason Brown, both guys had FCS 09.
- 4:29SCSI non-power 5 experience with Wells from our show and Jason
- 4:34Brown FCS All-American. Back in nineteen, LED South
- 4:37Carolina to to Big upsets though, against SEC foes last
- 4:40year. So awesome game experience.
- 4:42But I think the bigger theme for the offense really is just an
- 4:45overall transition here. You look at all the Personnel
- 4:47gone. You're talking about quarterback
- 4:50on lead, running back on the top.
- 4:52Two receivers the Tight end, and three NFL lineman to.
- 4:55And that's, that's my one of my biggest concerns there.
- 4:58I know that Rudolph is an excellent offensive line coach.
- 5:00I think it might take more than one fall Camp.
- 5:02They really get that together, but yeah, answer your question,
- 5:05their quarterback, that's wide open.
- 5:07But this is the quarterback conference guys.
- 5:09This year, I cover all five power, five leagues.
- 5:13And this quarterback, the acc's quarterbacks are loaded.
- 5:16It was really hard to whittle it down to just two guys for the
- 5:19All Conference Team let alone I could make the argument for
- 5:21seven guys. So when You're compared against
- 5:23this conference this year. It's a tough spot.
- 5:28Absolutely. And you know, the good thing
- 5:31about it, like you said, at least, yes, we did lose Braxton
- 5:35Burmeister, he transferred out to San Diego State, but having
- 5:38Wells and having Brown both with a lot of experience, at one of
- 5:42the most crucial positions is definitely key.
- 5:45And let's talk about the offensive side of the ball on
- 5:48that. You go through this data, you
- 5:51look what area of the offense needs to improve for the Hokies
- 5:56to go from that six and six six and seven middle of the road
- 6:01type team to a more productive offense.
- 6:06I think the key stat here would be the pass protection.
- 6:09The sacks per attempt number I have in their sack rate, they
- 6:13greeted outside the top 100 last year 107th and and that was with
- 6:17like I said three NFL errs and there was a talented line
- 6:20individually. They were great in one push but
- 6:23pass protection. You lose Brock Hoffman Smith
- 6:26tenuta I mean, they're all gone in the pros.
- 6:29So, you're rebuilding that offensive line already from a
- 6:32low starting point pass protection.
- 6:33So, that's where I started at. Surprisingly.
- 6:37I kind of shocking when I saw it, but they were top 20 in my
- 6:39explosive passing metric hitting on some home runs there.
- 6:43But again, losing your top, two receivers hurts, Virginia Tech
- 6:46has really been hit by the transfer.
- 6:47Portal is specifically, the receiver room.
- 6:50It seems like the last couple of years.
- 6:51I've been covering this, so yeah, but overall, I'd saved
- 6:55sack rate is the number one target.
- 6:59Let me look at her follow-up question.
- 7:00Real split on the explosive plays because looking at the
- 7:04data, explosive plays was great, right?
- 7:07But every other past metric was just atrocious when you're doing
- 7:12these and you some see something like that, like like do you have
- 7:15to do double takes where it's like this team's explosive,
- 7:18passes, top 20 and then you start looking in like how are
- 7:22they over under 100 everywhere else like how does that go into?
- 7:27You're kind of calculations about where your ranking a team.
- 7:30Yeah, I try and look at everything and, you know, it's a
- 7:33pretty extensive process when I'm previewing teams.
- 7:36I'm watching spring games, I read through all the game
- 7:38reports from last season, talking to coaches coordinators,
- 7:42beat writers, you know, listening in the local shows.
- 7:45So I try and look at everything. Yeah.
- 7:47There are some weird ones that come up like that.
- 7:49I mean, maybe that was just a home run offense, you know,
- 7:51strikeout or a home run, maybe a hit on a good chunk of long,
- 7:54yardage plays, but the per play, And the efficiency were down.
- 7:58So of all the metrics their explosive passing.
- 8:02And I think the more important one is that QB rating, that's
- 8:05kind of all encompassing. It takes everything into account
- 8:07and Virginia Tech was 82nd there.
- 8:10So yeah, it's a lot of data to Crunch through.
- 8:15Yeah, they're definitely tells a story.
- 8:16Do you look at things like offensive Drive, efficiency?
- 8:19Or any of those kind of advanced metrics, not so much to drive
- 8:23efficiency. I like the per play stuff and I
- 8:26also like my offense and defense, percentiles it takes a
- 8:29little bit further, it grades it against the opponent's strengths
- 8:32and what they've been averaging and factors in a couple of my
- 8:35other metrics there. So I don't really do the drive
- 8:38numbers that you see elsewhere. You know I kind of just geared
- 8:42towards what makes sense to me and what is work.
- 8:44My formulas and yeah, I like the / placed off and when you look
- 8:48at it there at the bottom of the Virginia Tech offense page if
- 8:52fell off a cliff last year offensively.
- 8:54So hoping to turn that around for you guys Hunters are and I
- 8:57love what you say that you look at the comparisons of the team
- 9:00they're playing again. So if they're playing against a
- 9:02bad defense and they blow up all offensively, I'm sure you're
- 9:04like well they should have if they're playing a bad defense
- 9:08and struggle offensive ly you're like okay there's some problems
- 9:11there, let me ask this we talked about The offense.
- 9:15Let's talk about the defense. The defense.
- 9:17Looking at your magazine, lot of yellow, which not terrible, but
- 9:21not great. What do they have to improve on
- 9:24this year? To have a successful season
- 9:28under Brent Pride from talking with Coach cry knowing his past
- 9:31record. What do you think they will
- 9:33improve? Yeah well you talk about the
- 9:36staff box there. It's a lot of yellow.
- 9:37There is one green line that's key for this next year and
- 9:40that's returning production. Virginia Tech, top 25 and
- 9:43returning production on defense. And that's usually a clear
- 9:46indicator year every year a pointer towards Improvement.
- 9:50So he has a lot of experienced players coming back.
- 9:53The linebacker Duo decks how I feel and Alan Tisdale really
- 9:56strong You out there a couple all-conference contenders in the
- 10:00in the secondary. So, to answer your question of
- 10:02what the weakness or the point of emphasis should be, is that
- 10:05run defense and the defensive line, you know, that's, they
- 10:09were outside. They were below average in all
- 10:11my rushing defense metrics last year.
- 10:13And, you know, you got to fortify that Center the defense.
- 10:15So, like I said, linebackers look, strong and experienced
- 10:19same with the defensive backs, there's some upside their
- 10:22defensive line looks like the question mark.
- 10:28Yeah, I think that that's what we're concerned about as well,
- 10:30when we're looking at this defense and not just from Top in
- 10:35talent and ability there, but also looking kind of down the
- 10:38depth chart and not seeing a whole lot of experienced talent
- 10:41in that group. So, defensive line, definitely a
- 10:44concern for us, especially as you said on that, that run
- 10:48stopping portion because there's only so much with an attacking
- 10:52style defense that that you can do against the run.
- 10:55It's obvious obviously going to put the quarter Back is going to
- 10:59get rid of the ball, a lot quicker if you bring a lot of
- 11:01pressure. But there's only so much you can
- 11:03do on the Run game from a scheme standpoint.
- 11:05So, you know, we'll see what Brent Pride dials up for that.
- 11:09Let's go ahead and turn it over to some of the opponents that
- 11:13the Hokies face. And we'll start with the with
- 11:16the first big opponent of the, of the season for the Hokies,
- 11:21the Boston College Eagles. Let's start it here, though.
- 11:26Let's say we got your Kovac. He's returning.
- 11:29If he can return to form this season, can they be better than
- 11:36they were predicted to be last season before he lost so much
- 11:40time. Well, tricky question there
- 11:43because you got to look back to where they were projected last
- 11:46year and they were actually projected, second or third in
- 11:49the Atlantic division was sounds hard to believe looking back on
- 11:51it. But optimism was running very
- 11:53high for Boston College this time last year.
- 11:55Year it was supposed to be the best offensive line that they've
- 11:58ever had the best receiver core they've ever had in field.
- 12:01Reykjavik was ready to take that next step towards all-conference
- 12:04and really none of it clicked. Of course, he went down to
- 12:06injury three games in and the offense fell off a cliff right
- 12:10away. You know, when he was not in the
- 12:12lineup, they were second worse in America, or I should say, in
- 12:16power 5, so it's huge getting him back.
- 12:19But the problem now is that great offensive line, they were
- 12:22supposed to have, they're all in the pros.
- 12:24Now it's an Fire rebuild up front.
- 12:26The lone starter coming back, Christian mahogany.
- 12:29He could have pushed for for all-conference.
- 12:30He got injured in Spring ball, so he's out.
- 12:33So yeah, a complete rebuild on the offensive line and when you
- 12:36look back on some of them, you know, some of their games, and
- 12:39their scores, and their, their grades that I have in there, my
- 12:41game, greater, they Place, pretty poorly last year.
- 12:44So I have them down all the way in sixth place in the Atlantic.
- 12:49Yeah. Last year was it was a big talk
- 12:51of BC, potentially being that team, that could challenge
- 12:53Clemson with Phil and like you said, that offensive line.
- 12:57It's a rebuilding and it feels like BC every few years, they do
- 13:01rebuild the offensive line but they're they're you know,
- 13:04they're the reduction of returning is not as much in on
- 13:07the defensive side of the ball. They were turning a little bit
- 13:09more there. You know second year under half
- 13:12of who is a defensive guy, but is the defensive line, their
- 13:16biggest question mark. And in the 2022 on that side of
- 13:19the ball. Yeah, it's probably a similar
- 13:22answer to what I just gave for Virginia Tech, you know, the
- 13:25experience and the star power on Boston College.
- 13:27Defense comes in the secondary and the linebacker room and
- 13:31especially that secondary. They were it's hard to believe
- 13:34that they were number three in the country and passing yards
- 13:35per game. Allowed pass defense was strong
- 13:39and the headliner, there is, who is that?
- 13:42It's Jaden would be. Who was a former Florida State
- 13:44Blue Chip recruit that haffley flipped brought him up to Boston
- 13:47College. And he's been excellent out
- 13:49there, so strong. Secondary improving linebacker
- 13:52core defensive lines, probably the weakness and then that
- 13:55they're rushing stats, show it. So Yeah, that's what we had
- 14:01identified as well. Just looking at your work and
- 14:03looking looking around. It looks like they're going to
- 14:05be pretty thin on that defensive line in terms of returning
- 14:08production and just strength. Overall, let's turn it over to
- 14:11UVA. UVA, you know, they got a great
- 14:16wide receiver room, great quarterback.
- 14:19Looks like they're going to have a improved running back room
- 14:21heading into 2022, but will this team be able to overcome the
- 14:25mass Exodus that they Had on that offensive line.
- 14:29Yeah, that's that's a problem for them.
- 14:31And in a transition year to lose the entire front four, linemen
- 14:35transferring out. And then a couple of them were
- 14:38all-acc honors. So there's some big shoes to
- 14:42fill their and yeah, and you wonder if that's going to hamper
- 14:46the progress of Brandon Armstrong, he was a do-it-all
- 14:48machine last year. Put up incredible stats, the
- 14:51offense was humming but really the problems were in the defense
- 14:55and I don't see an overnight fix their they have some Fewest
- 14:58returning production in America. It's a coaching transition year
- 15:02and while I do like the higher radzinsky definite transition,
- 15:06it has transition your written all over it.
- 15:08So they're going to need to outscore teams.
- 15:10They certainly can with Armstrong but he's going to need
- 15:12protection. That receiver core is one of the
- 15:15best in the conference though and all that Firepower is back
- 15:18again, don't forget, they got, they get back, Lavell Davis, who
- 15:21was a great freshman there two years ago, it was out last year,
- 15:25and in return to the lineup. So a lot of Firepower on
- 15:28offense. Yeah, their biggest question,
- 15:30there is definitely that old line and we saw at the end of
- 15:32last year, it was, it had a couple good players, but overall
- 15:36they were beat up and you know you could break through and not
- 15:40give Armstrong the time to make those passes and to me if that
- 15:43doesn't improve mean, they look like again maybe a 5 to 7 win
- 15:48team with all that offensive power off by Firepower it, you
- 15:52know you just mentioned there, you know, Tony Elliot hired John
- 15:54rosinski as a defensive coordinator lot of Access that
- 15:58Air Force you know with the military school there but their
- 16:05secondary has been absolutely horrible the last few years
- 16:08which is shocking on the Bronco, Mendenhall being a defensive Guy
- 16:11having a track record so can rosinski get their pass rush
- 16:16enough to really cover up that week secondary?
- 16:18Or is it going to be another long year for them on the
- 16:20defensive side of the ball? Yeah.
- 16:23Well first off I like to hire like a hit on and and obviously
- 16:27Coach Elliot did too. He said they crossed paths in
- 16:30the coaching clinic and, you know, he was, he found it
- 16:33appealing, that radzinsky had success recruiting within some
- 16:36stuff confines. I mean, I know it's a loose
- 16:38comparison but the military credentials to get into the air
- 16:41force compared to the high academics of UVA.
- 16:43He made that comparison. So take that with a grain of
- 16:46salt but it looks like a good fit, you know, Virginia
- 16:49experimented with three man base last year and really backfired
- 16:52and that's really been rosinski bread and butters is 34 base.
- 16:56So, We'll see if he has a better chance at rebuilding.
- 17:00It last year was a disaster and and you lose a lot of star
- 17:04players. So yeah, I don't see any
- 17:06overnight fix longer-term, looks okay, but that's kind of why I
- 17:11have Virginia outside the top three.
- 17:13I had them tied. Actually with Virginia Tech
- 17:15forth in the coastal behind. Miami pit and UNC.
- 17:20Yeah, it's going to be a big head to head.
- 17:23Yes. Especially after the field
- 17:24storming last year on opponent Turf.
- 17:26So That's a great for the Rivalry but we have Stadium.
- 17:30North Lane Stadium. North Brett.
- 17:32Just always remember. Yeah, that was incredible to see
- 17:35and that that actually wasn't the only one I saw out in the
- 17:37apple cup, Washington State, fans, stormed Husky Stadium,
- 17:41husky field, wherever the cone and you Dove and planted a flag
- 17:44there. So it's a new trend.
- 17:45I'm seeing opposing field storming, exactly?
- 17:50All right. Well, let's take a look at
- 17:51probably a field storming that will never happen at either.
- 17:55Location is when Virginia Tech players.
- 17:57West Virginia for the Black Diamond trophy.
- 18:00One of the most heated rivalries in the 90s and early 2000s, came
- 18:03back in 2017. They now play a home and home
- 18:07last year in Morgantown where the Hokies came up inches short
- 18:11from taking out a dub. But a lots changed in up there.
- 18:14Neal Brown is third year in the biggest is on the offensive side
- 18:17of the football. He is going are a with G Peril
- 18:21hail recruited. The guy he was coaching out at
- 18:23USC JT, Daniels, gets him pick some up out of Georgia, you
- 18:27know. they sing some blue-chip, quarterbacks and Harold himself
- 18:30has seen some blue-chip, quarterbacks Is the Airaid
- 18:33system going to be enough of a difference to improve this
- 18:37offense than what they've looked like the past few years which is
- 18:42just been kind of men. Yeah it's been a really weak
- 18:46offense. They've been defense first under
- 18:48Neil Brown and it's kind of hard to believe given his offensive
- 18:51background. He used to call it as NASCAR
- 18:53offense of how fast they were in between snaps running to the
- 18:56line. None of that.
- 18:57Even they didn't come close to that, it West Virginia so far.
- 19:00So complete overhaul, Glee, we saw Graham Harrell turn around
- 19:05USC, overnight program out there that was known as tailback you
- 19:09for generations and he comes in and says, no, no more.
- 19:11Tailback we're going 5 wide, Throwing It All Over the field.
- 19:14Now, they put up great numbers, so he's turned around and
- 19:17offense before coming in here. Yeah, you bring in a former
- 19:20five-star. Our mats, it's rare to pull off
- 19:23like that and yeah, I think the JT Daniels, I'll ask some
- 19:26success here he was. I thought he was fine at Georgia
- 19:30to but, you know, it's going to be hard to Or take steps and
- 19:33Bennett. So he wanted to try a new power
- 19:355 opportunity. The problem I don't think will
- 19:37be the offense. It's this huge transition that
- 19:39they have on defense. Basically, the entire units gone
- 19:42except for Stills, in the middle who's who's a great talent
- 19:44himself but complete rebuild on defense.
- 19:47So it looks like they're their strength kind of flipped this
- 19:50time around. Yeah, and flipping to the other
- 19:53side of the ball, they kind of look like our wide receiver
- 19:56room. They had a mass Exodus to the
- 19:58transfer portal from, from that side.
- 20:01And they were solid of sometimes inconsistent in 2021.
- 20:07They return their best defender though Dante.
- 20:09Stills, does this team still have enough town on that side of
- 20:12the ball and downstream in the to and 3D to really fill those
- 20:17holes that the portal created? I don't think so, to be honest,
- 20:20I mean, first off, you look at They brought in and this wasn't
- 20:23anywhere near a top-10 transfer class or anything like that.
- 20:26So it was all one way it was. It was out the front door,
- 20:28exiting the program and these guys weren't transferring down.
- 20:32They weren't guys that went to the FCS level.
- 20:34I mean, most of these guys were plucked off by other power 5
- 20:37defense, has now Darrell Porter and Method or both to Miami.
- 20:43Who else you got a guy going to Colorado?
- 20:44Jackie Matthews down the Mississippi State, and don't
- 20:47forget this time. Last year, their best defender
- 20:49on the team. Tai Chi Smith was Just Away by
- 20:52Georgia. So it's a talent drain on
- 20:54defense. No, real big transfers coming in
- 20:58as a class and then you look back to the recruiting profile
- 21:01and it's outside the top 40. So, I don't see any reason why
- 21:04that will be an overnight fix for them.
- 21:08All right, the one thing I love about you.
- 21:10Brett is you admit when you're wrong reading, the magazine
- 21:15night, open it up and you immediately said I was
- 21:19completely wrong UNC last year. Many people do not do that.
- 21:23I respect the hell out of you because you open up one of the
- 21:26first few pages you admitted it. Now this year you can see has
- 21:32one of the worst production returns after the loss of Hal
- 21:35and tie Chandler. 2,000-yard running back the good.
- 21:38Sketcher and Josh Downs is really their only proven
- 21:41offensive weapon. They do have some line returning
- 21:45but I mean is this team going to be able to reload with the
- 21:48unproven depth or do they look again like last year a 6 win
- 21:53team? Yeah well that's a great Point
- 21:56talking about last year's pick and you know it's a point of
- 21:58Pride to have the most accurate magazine.
- 22:00I have the five-year title so I do like the to celebrate the
- 22:03wins but like you said, you got to acknowledge the losses and
- 22:07make no doubt about it. The UNC pick last year was the
- 22:09worst pick I've ever done in 10 years.
- 22:11I mean, it's just did nothing came true.
- 22:13They were a completely different team than what we saw the year
- 22:14before and yeah, it was a total Miss.
- 22:17So, here we are in 2022. It's a program that has improved
- 22:20it yet and I don't see why they will it.
- 22:23I can't I can't take him high again until they go out and
- 22:25prove it themselves. And you know, Sam Howell gone at
- 22:28quarterback. Some offensive linemen are gone
- 22:31but that offensive line themselves.
- 22:32It was pretty weak. Last year.
- 22:34Pass protection. Was weak.
- 22:37What else we got? Got ya.
- 22:38So I mean they have a great recruiting profile.
- 22:40You're just waiting for that to click and it's just hasn't yet.
- 22:42So you know, it's a matter of time.
- 22:45You'd say, I like their change. I bring it in gene, chizik on
- 22:48defense, getting some aggressiveness from attacking
- 22:51style and defense. They were to finesse on their
- 22:53Bateman. So maybe that triggers a, you
- 22:55know, a switch here. But for now I have them third in
- 22:59the Atlantic or third the coastal.
- 23:00I should say, sorry, and 40th, overall, Yeah, that's that's my
- 23:05question on defense, you know, yet she isn't coming in,
- 23:08obviously, Bateman that. That that defense just couldn't
- 23:11get going last year but you talking about that returning
- 23:15production? Everything is this the success
- 23:17for this team? Really going to depend on how
- 23:19much better that defense has this year.
- 23:21Yeah, defense is huge, but really just the overall program
- 23:24mindset. I mean, when you listen to Mack
- 23:26Brown speak, he was saying how the team was way too
- 23:28overconfident back in last August and last September, they
- 23:31are reading their own press clippings.
- 23:33He he says, and of all teams Virginia Tech punch them right
- 23:36in the mouth right away. And and that was even that
- 23:38wasn't even Saturday. They'll even make it to the
- 23:40opening day was Thursday night and that that pic was thrown out
- 23:44the window right away. But but no, I think that you saw
- 23:47it all season. They were quitting during playes
- 23:49quitting during games. So I think this goes deeper than
- 23:52just an X's and O's, they got to have a whole culture rebuild up
- 23:55with in that Locker. Got it?
- 23:59Yeah, that makes sense. Let's go ahead and flip it from
- 24:02you and see to the team that won the ACC last year.
- 24:06The Pitt Panthers How much higher would pits returning
- 24:12production be if Addison did not leave and let's also add this in
- 24:18there. Is he the bigger loss or is
- 24:21their offensive coordinator? Whipple that that left.
- 24:26Okay, that's great question. So I think the Addison's a
- 24:29bigger loss in the immediate term.
- 24:31I mean that was a playmaker. Do it all guy Biletnikoff winner
- 24:35for Forex ache. So yeah.
- 24:37So losing him in the fashion that he left very bizarre but
- 24:42yeah that certainly hurts because with him coming back
- 24:44this this offense was looking perfect besides a quarterback
- 24:47and you brought him to power 5 experienced guy, Keaton slovis
- 24:50and looked like all five offensive lineman or back and
- 24:53and that this offense wasn't going to miss a step.
- 24:55But now you know how big a difference a guy makes you look
- 24:59back. Now you can argue okay?
- 25:00The Heisman candidate is gone. The blind, the cough Winters
- 25:03gone and The Mastermind Behind The Thing, Mark Whipple's gone.
- 25:05So that shift more towards a transition Year, my opinion and
- 25:10you know, very physical team. Their strength is really the
- 25:13defense. I talked to opposing coaches in
- 25:15the Atlantic division and Coastal Division and they all
- 25:18mention pits physicality and you see it especially that defensive
- 25:21line. So that'll carry him again.
- 25:24I think there's still a solid top.
- 25:25Top 20 team, but questions on offense now.
- 25:29Yeah. And you kind of answer it there
- 25:31about the level of success for 20 or 21 how much their defense
- 25:35is going to have to stay especially their past defense
- 25:38because nor doozies known as a defensive mind.
- 25:40And he is a very good defensive coach.
- 25:42We hate him down in Blacksburg. And there's the white Vic.
- 25:48Virginia, Tech Legends chiming in about they should be solid
- 25:52but to get back to that. Let's say nine.
- 25:56Ten wins. How big of a step does that pass
- 26:00defense have to take because if it's only mediocre, are they
- 26:03back to where they were at like 20 1920, 18 wins seven or eight
- 26:07games and just not looking as good?
- 26:11Well, it's a great question, I think, when you look at patent
- 26:13are doozies track record as a defensive coordinator and now a
- 26:16defensive minded head coach, his defenses are always the same.
- 26:19They're always attacking their always leading the league and
- 26:21leaving the conference. I'm sorry.
- 26:23Placing the national top 10, even in tackles, for loss sacks,
- 26:27my - play Metric. Loves them and, and you see it.
- 26:30But on the other side of the coin there, by bringing, so much
- 26:34resources in the blitz there, Overexposed in the pass game in
- 26:38the secondary. So you see more long yardage?
- 26:40Breakdowns if they don't hit home on their sacks.
- 26:42So all that to say this defensive line is strong again,
- 26:47can't see earned All-American honors last year he's back and
- 26:50the linebacker group does lose a couple multi-year starters.
- 26:53But again such a proven track record on to the staff.
- 26:56Charlie Partridge one of the best coaches, they're on the
- 26:59defensive line and I really trust the pit rebuilds and
- 27:02OneNote to leave you with with pit.
- 27:04Is that over the last three years, in my defensive
- 27:07percentile average their fourth in the nation, only behind a
- 27:10Laburnum. I'm a Georgia, Clemson pits
- 27:12right there, number four, so yeah, the secondary might have
- 27:15some problems. But overall is the defense,
- 27:17there are proven commodity Yeah absolutely.
- 27:20And it's every year he proves it, you know, we've gotten a
- 27:23couple, we've got him a couple of times and when you get if he
- 27:27is it's actually a fun, sideline show to watch because he gets
- 27:30really angry when his team's getting beaten, especially on
- 27:33the defensive side of the ball. All right?
- 27:35I'm gonna flip this because we got a few more minutes with you
- 27:37here. You got NC State.
- 27:40Clemson in my name is your three.
- 27:41Highest ranked ACC teams Could any of those team cracked the
- 27:49playoffs? In your opinion, if things break
- 27:52the right way? Well yeah.
- 27:55I mean of course anybody can break it.
- 27:56Here's the here's what's got to happen.
- 27:57You've got to win the conference with one loss.
- 27:59So you got to come out of their 12 and 11 or 13 to know
- 28:02obviously but twelve and one pretty much cements you a ticket
- 28:05to the playoffs and you saw with pit last year, a surprise team
- 28:08out of nowhere. They would go in the coastal and
- 28:11they win the conference but they're sitting there with that
- 28:13second loss. That that Mac loss at the
- 28:15beginning of the Season really cost them had.
- 28:18They have just taken care of business against the Mac team.
- 28:20They be 12 + 1 and undoubtedly in the playoffs last year.
- 28:23So, So yeah, the question really is, can somebody go 12 in 1 in
- 28:28this league? And I think it's a really
- 28:30crowded conference now, especially the Atlantic is
- 28:32loaded at the top. It was really a tough exercise,
- 28:35trying to parse that out the top-5 over there.
- 28:37I mean, Clemson's The Proven commodity The Proven Dynasty NC
- 28:40State looks like it's their best team in school history
- 28:42especially defensively and the quarterback with Evan Leary.
- 28:46So a lot of high upside there Wake Forest, they continue to
- 28:49win games. They're the defending Atlantic
- 28:51Champs, but then seems like Florida State in Louisville.
- 28:53I have Skyrocketing in the right direction.
- 28:56Florida, State led by the defense Louisville by their
- 28:58offense. If they can get some
- 29:00complimentary play from their other sides of the balls.
- 29:03That's a lot of quality teams in the ACC.
- 29:05So long story short, I think they're going to beat each other
- 29:08up at the top, you're going to have a two or three lost champ
- 29:11and that shouldn't be a knock on the conference.
- 29:13I think it's stronger than it was a year ago and is trending
- 29:16in the right direction. Albeit, maybe not a playoff
- 29:19Contender this year. Yeah, let me get one quick
- 29:22follow-up on that. So, You talk to the Clemson
- 29:25being established team if they're going to be the team
- 29:27that since as conference champion at the end of the year,
- 29:29is that all going to revolve around?
- 29:32How good DJ you plays this year? Absolutely.
- 29:36And but he needs some help to I mean, last year the receiver
- 29:39core was banged up and it fell down to a lot of true freshman
- 29:42and redshirt freshman and they just couldn't produce.
- 29:45And then the offensive line, the offensive line had best staple
- 29:48for them. Usually finishing number one, in
- 29:50the country, in yards per carry, all those etn Seasons, they were
- 29:53always number one, So that took a step back.
- 29:55So nothing was really clicking at all.
- 29:56They were stuck in the mud and then yes, of course DJ you is is
- 30:00under Center and he's the triggerman but everything else
- 30:03around and failed soon. Clemson's going through a double
- 30:05coordinator change to, which is rare for such a program of
- 30:09coordinator continuity. And last bid on Clemson is that
- 30:12while the other Powerhouse programs have embraced the
- 30:14transfer portal and and used it to bring in all-conference
- 30:17caliber guys to patch up some roster.
- 30:19Holes Clemson's really been anti portal.
- 30:22So I wonder if that starts to catch up to him.
- 30:24Um and so I'm not confident that they return to the playoff.
- 30:28We got a couple more minutes here and I'm going to ask one
- 30:30National question and then we're going to let you get out of here
- 30:33and do some promo. I'm not going to count.
- 30:36Utah, Utah, as your number 14, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia.
- 30:42The three Blue Bloods, which of those three could you see,
- 30:46missed the playoffs, you've looked at the data, you do see
- 30:50them as the three of the best teams in the country, but what,
- 30:54which one of them is walking on thin ice?
- 30:57Where if they make one mistake or have one position get hurt,
- 31:01it could really basically in their chances to making it to
- 31:05the National Championship. Yeah, that's a great question.
- 31:08I think I'll take the two SEC teams just given the fact of how
- 31:11rare and hard it is to cram two teams from one League into the
- 31:15playoff bracket. So they're both on thin ice.
- 31:18They don't have much margin of error of those two options.
- 31:21I'd say Georgia is the is has a weaker link just on on their
- 31:25youth and I know that's a boring answer but they just set an NFL
- 31:29record, 15 draft picks and could get, was the murderer the most
- 31:33ever first round of fenders. And Most offenders in the first
- 31:36three rounds also. So and the thing about Georgia
- 31:39they do rotate their players a lot.
- 31:41So it might not be quote unquote returning starters but they're
- 31:44experienced. But still I mean, when you're
- 31:46trying to fit two SEC teams into a 14 bracket I'll say George is
- 31:51the weak link there. Makes sense plus can Stetson
- 31:57Bennett and underrated quarterback play like he did
- 32:00last year after you have two full-time starting job.
- 32:03Well, Brett, we know you have another show to go to.
- 32:06You are a busy man. This week, tell everybody where

- 32:46calling head. Coaches calling coordinators,
- 32:49you know, running my numbers, but then putting it into a
- 32:51readable form and and yeah, last thing on there.
- 32:54There's some Testimonials to the College GameDay guys ACC Network
- 32:58guys. So yeah, go check it out, pick

- 33:15It's an exciting time of year, everyone's undefeated.
- 33:17So I love talking football and August and the season will be
- 33:20here before we know it. Well, thanks for coming on with
- 33:22this Brett. We appreciate it again.
- 33:24It's gonna we got to make this an annual thing, because it's
- 33:27always a good time to for you to come on and share your knowledge
- 33:30with us. Share your knowledge with our
- 33:32lister's, really offshore and I gotta get back down to
- 33:34Blacksburg. I had once been down there, 2009
- 33:38for the Nebraska game randomly, but I want to get back there now
- 33:41that I'm of age to really enjoy, you know what I'm saying?
- 33:44I was, there we go, but I looked like a great time and a
- 33:48beautiful campus and and obviously the passionate fans.
- 33:51So it's been great interacting with so many of you online and
- 33:54the Virginia Tech media at large.
- 33:57You know, you can tell you guys love your football.
- 34:00We appreciate that, bro. You let us know if you come down
- 34:02to Blacksburg, will try our best to get down there as well and we
- 34:05appreciate you coming on again this year.
- 34:08And, you know, we look forward to having you back again in 2023
- 34:12and hopefully better terms for our Hokies.
- 34:15But man you do an awesome job of the Magazine's awesome.
- 34:18You take care of yourself out there and have a great woman.
- 34:22Okay, thanks Brian. Curtis, appreciate it.
- 34:24See you in a few see you. Well that was fun man.
- 34:28Yeah, it was. When we got to the end, we did
- 34:31not think we were going to get to talk to the three other teams
- 34:34with a little National picture but we did it in guys before we
- 34:38get into talking about some things from camp and a few other
- 34:41breaking stories today we are going to take a quick pause for
- 34:45a message from our digital partner.
- 34:48If you take a quick break, we like to tell you about getting
- 34:51your free website report from our digital partner, Grassroots,
- 34:54digital marketing Studio. They'll tell you how your
- 34:56website ranks on Google on-site, SEO and social media.
- 34:59No commitment to buy anything. You can get your free report by
- 35:02visiting. Grassroots digital studio.com
- 35:05forward slash free Dash website, Dash report.
- 35:08Now back to the episode Alrighty so Bryan we weren't going to
- 35:14lead with this in the second half but I mean when it breaks
- 35:17like this you got to talk about it.
- 35:20This afternoon Triumph and il-1 of the lead ones for Virginia.
- 35:24Tech reports 28 additional football players on top of the
- 35:29four that we mentioned a couple weeks ago have signed with
- 35:32triumphs getting an investment of up to 300 thousand dollars.
- 35:38So the young guys get A little cash in the pocket.
- 35:43Yeah, yeah, we're spread the love a little bit here.
- 35:46I like that. We're getting money into more
- 35:49players hands on the active roster.
- 35:53You know whether you think this goes far enough or whatever.
- 35:56Yet I agree. There's other schools out there
- 35:59doing more, but you got to celebrate the wins when they
- 36:03come and this is definitely a win, no matter how you slice it,
- 36:07especially, you know, spreading that out over twenty, eight
- 36:09additional players. Shout out to Brandon Hill and
- 36:13Kevin Jones, a part of that Collective putting these things
- 36:16together for these athletes. Nothing.
- 36:19But good things going forward and this definitely puts us at
- 36:23least in the conversation. Like Brent proud, was talking
- 36:25about with the ni L stuff. Absolutely.
- 36:29And if you take a look at the name's Andy, bitter, put a good
- 36:33tweet out because the way he had it set up, you can definitely go
- 36:36on Triumph website and read it. But if you look at the games to
- 36:40me, The majority of these guys are proven, they proven, they
- 36:45can play their in the 2D in, in this, the kind of the way it
- 36:50should be. I mean, it's not the way it's
- 36:51gonna be but the way it should be, if you're a proven guys when
- 36:55you get roughly, if you take a look that's roughly ten thousand
- 36:58dollars and I'm sure it's probably some guys are getting
- 37:01the last. Some guys are getting a little
- 37:02more and obviously you got the top 4 guys are probably getting
- 37:05a really good penny. But there's not a name on here
- 37:09Brian that we don't know. Or haven't talked about it's not
- 37:13like it's the sixth string. I like how is he on there?
- 37:17Yeah these are. These are two big guys.
- 37:18These are guys that are seeing the field most games if not
- 37:22every game. And I think that that's where we
- 37:26are at this point and I think that's probably good enough for
- 37:31now, but we definitely need to keep this this train moving and
- 37:37the more investment the better. And you know, I've talked about
- 37:40it with some people at this point, you know, when I'm, you
- 37:44know, making a donation to The Hokie scholarship fund, I'm
- 37:50going to also turn around and match that with one of the ni L
- 37:52collectors from now on they you go.
- 37:55That's the way it's got to be. You've got it.
- 37:57You've got to look both ways now.
- 37:59And obviously those guys are going to have Investments,
- 38:02they're going to find people, you know, you take a look at
- 38:05Malachi Thomas. They found literally a it looked
- 38:09like a Ford dealership in his neck of the woods that wanted to
- 38:13sponsor him in Malachi was driving on you Ranger.
- 38:17I'm down the road, great for him.
- 38:18Also know that kid, so good. Things on that front.
- 38:23Hopefully we'll see more from Some of the other collectives
- 38:25out there but Brian. Well first of all if you see us
- 38:30look up, yes, this would you say earlier today Brian this is the
- 38:37from now for starting today from now until the week of
- 38:41Valentine's Day, there's not a single week that doesn't have
- 38:45football. Nice single week.
- 38:47Football is back in Camp is open for business as of Tuesday.
- 38:56And it's just that time of year. I'm Nicole de sac tonight, man,
- 39:00we had some pizza with some neighbors.
- 39:02Had a couple drinks everybody shooting Breeze and me and you
- 39:05know, we're talking season starting, you know, hey we're
- 39:08going to get together on Thursday nights watching all so
- 39:13it's time. It's ready man.
- 39:15But let's talk this, let's start Brent pry.
- 39:18Quick interview after practice on Wednesday and Something that
- 39:27I thought he was very upfront about day one.
- 39:29They had some issues about some non competitiveness now Brian.
- 39:35Is this something that in your years of your you played
- 39:39Collegiate football, you played High School football, is this,
- 39:41something that could happen on day one?
- 39:43Or is this kind of out of the ordinary?
- 39:47I've said it before, I'll say it again.
- 39:49If a Coach is satisfied with day one, whether it's effort,
- 39:53whether it's Just the product on the field.
- 39:57That's a red flag. That's a red flag because no
- 40:02team is out there winning day one because it's like I like the
- 40:09motto always say is sometimes happy.
- 40:12Never satisfied. That's the mindset.
- 40:16You need to have, as a coach sometimes, happy never satisfied
- 40:19and if you're satisfied on day one, there's no way to go but
- 40:22down. So I think you know regardless
- 40:26of what the reality was that's a good message to send to your
- 40:30teen out. The gate, they one wasn't good
- 40:32enough, boys, get out there and do better compete more.
- 40:36We're not there yet. Absolutely.
- 40:39You love the messaging and then he comes out day to and says it
- 40:44was better today. They were more competitive.
- 40:46They were more fighting. So, you know, as much as it was
- 40:51a message day one, there's also the praise there to make sure
- 40:54they, you know, you're getting in the right direction.
- 40:58And again, we all feel it with prai.
- 41:00He's very candid. You don't feel like he's holding
- 41:03anything back. And when he said this, I'm still
- 41:06trying to think. I'm okay where we that bad and
- 41:10now we're much better or are we legitimately taking, you know,
- 41:14the offense is making strides in the offseason?
- 41:19I mean, I mean that could be a million things, right?
- 41:21Brian. It could I don't know if he's
- 41:24being relative to where the defense is, I mean typically
- 41:28start a camp defenses are ahead of the offense so the fact that
- 41:33the offense was out there doing anything.
- 41:37Yeah. Is either indicative of, as
- 41:40process, some lack of efforts and some lack of competitiveness
- 41:43from the defense. And it could also be that, that
- 41:47offense has taken some strides that those that, that
- 41:49installation has helped that seeing some new plays that they
- 41:54didn't see in spring or some some, some new formations or
- 41:58some new routes throughout Concepts that they didn't see,
- 42:01in Spring, might be throwing them off a little bit.
- 42:04It could be a combination of all those things.
- 42:06So, But it is definitely a good sign that the offense is show in
- 42:11life. So early in Camp, it shows that
- 42:14the efforts that they made at the end of spring.
- 42:17And in the summer workouts are paying some dividends because I
- 42:20know that they were talking about a lot of installation for
- 42:23the full offensive package was taking place.
- 42:26After spring practice most of the base stuff was put in and
- 42:30spraying and then they started building on that as we went into
- 42:32the summer. Absolutely.
- 42:36So hopefully, Again, there's just a lot of unknowns and, you
- 42:41know, we talked about a few minutes ago even though we did
- 42:45have guys get drafted on the offensive line, there are some
- 42:50guys coming back with experience.
- 42:53Like a Johnny Jordan who did not get as much PT last year but was
- 42:56a 13-mile team Big Ten guy. Now something that was brought
- 43:01up and for me and you and other fans, you look at them and you
- 43:04say why can't they play? You know, somebody asked Prime
- 43:08and I can't remember which report was if I did.
- 43:10I'd give you the shout out, you'll know that.
- 43:12But he talked about guys physically ready like Xavier.
- 43:16Chaplain Lamar law and Malachi from here in the r-va in
- 43:22prowess. Just up front.
- 43:23Yeah. Baby for six weeks, they're
- 43:26ready. But he's like right now they've
- 43:27got to adjust emotionally socially academically.
- 43:32And you know it's it tells you that it's not just Malachi is
- 43:40six foot three and a half and he's 300 pounds.
- 43:44That's what I see is, I'm looking at the NFL, that's the
- 43:47size some of those guys, but how much important is that other
- 43:50stuff for on for young man? Getting to college and just
- 43:53getting on campus in probably the last four to six weeks?
- 43:57I mean, yeah, it's a big adjustment and, you know, just
- 44:00being physically, ready usually isn't enough, you know, I don't
- 44:04think this is, oh, well, you know, he missed a block at
- 44:08practice. So all of a sudden, he's in the
- 44:10doghouse for four to six weeks, this is more about The maturity
- 44:15on and off the field, this is more about understanding and
- 44:19adjusting to all these new things that most of these
- 44:24players are experiencing for the first time and making sure that
- 44:26they can handle all of that and football because being a
- 44:30Collegiate football, player is essentially like working two
- 44:34jobs. And at that and that's a big
- 44:38thing. It's a you know you wake up at
- 44:417:00 or before every morning, you're doing everything you need
- 44:46to do. Usually sometimes six, if you're
- 44:48getting a film session in before class and that's running until,
- 44:51you know, 8:00 9:00 10:00 every every night.
- 44:55You're pretty much going nonstop, especially in Camp,
- 44:59once can't breaks, you got, you got classes, obviously, picking
- 45:02up there. So there's a lot of adjustments
- 45:04that these kids. They're kind of taking on and,
- 45:07you know, just being physically, there doesn't necessarily mean
- 45:10that you're ready to play. And and that's not talking about
- 45:13the the social side and just learning The Playbook.
- 45:17There's that, you got to find your place within the team where
- 45:21you fit in and you got to make sure that you understand the
- 45:23Playbook. So when you get put in the game,
- 45:25you're not making that key mistake that that blows up a
- 45:28play. I love you.
- 45:30Speaking of this thing because it goes, it says a lot.
- 45:32And like you, like you mentioned.
- 45:33Those guys probably are physically.
- 45:35A to play but they have to get their mentally and I love you
- 45:38saying, they've got to find their Circle where they fit in
- 45:41socially. These got to get adjusted.
- 45:42Even though these next few weeks are going to be, they're not
- 45:45going to have a social life but you got to find a way on the
- 45:48team to fit in socially so I love it.
- 45:51Alright so something I can't remember if we knew this or not,
- 45:54I didn't remember. But last year the big heavy
- 45:57practice was in the morning will bring for.
- 46:00I don't do things like that. Brent R, I won't sit in the
- 46:03afternoon and he wants us. This practice has to be hot and
- 46:07hard. Are you shocked not shot and I
- 46:10love it. Oh, I know you would we you know
- 46:14we talked about it before Camp is where that where the hard
- 46:19stuff is by the time you get to the first game.
- 46:22Hell even by the time you get to that last that last scrimmage of
- 46:26camp It should be easy, Camp should be hard camp.
- 46:31Camp is meant to be hard and if you want to get players used to
- 46:36hard, you play him at the hottest part of the day with
- 46:39full pads on and, and that's what I like to see.
- 46:43Obviously, they're not in full pads yet.
- 46:44They're still out there in shells and shells, but you know,
- 46:49they'll get there, and I liked it, it's in the afternoon, I
- 46:54like the hard. I mean, I know I talked about it
- 46:57with with Curtis. I mean you know we when we were
- 47:00going through you know almost 20 years ago.
- 47:02Now we had 3 to 3 and a practices three meetings a day.
- 47:09We go shells in the morning, full pads in the afternoon and
- 47:12then we'd have a helmets. Only walk through in the
- 47:14evening, install, in the morning, the afternoon, usually
- 47:18special teams emphasis in the third meeting.
- 47:21So it was all day and it was a lot, but that's what campus for
- 47:29Absolutely. Now, you've been talking about
- 47:31the insoles to in kind of the way.
- 47:35It Brent Pride talked about it is, they have a morning.
- 47:38It's almost like they have a morning install and afternoon
- 47:41install, and then they do night film reviews when you look at
- 47:46the way that set up. So, it's install install hard
- 47:49practice film review in the evening which I'm guessing they
- 47:53probably get there have breakfast morning install.
- 47:58Lunch at the facility. Afternoon install practice
- 48:02dinner its facility. Then a film review.
- 48:04Probably individual coaching. Do you like the way that
- 48:07structured and and why? Yeah, I mean, it really goes
- 48:13back to kind of when you look at how people learn and things like
- 48:17that and, you know, coming for having a teacher as a as a wife,
- 48:21having kind of went through teacher prep, myself, you teach
- 48:25a concept You let the student, apply the concept and then you
- 48:30correct. And that's what we're seeing
- 48:33with how they're setting this up.
- 48:35You teach you teach in the morning and the early afternoon
- 48:39you go out there at the heavy practice of the day at 4:00 and
- 48:42you apply and then you Circle back in the evening after dinner
- 48:47and you correct. Probably looking at film because
- 48:51I'm assuming everything. There is getting filmed where it
- 48:55can already be instructed in. Then again, I'm guessing what
- 48:59happens next morning, so they look at the film review.
- 49:01Do you think it's like, are they reiterating where the errors
- 49:04were in those morning, installs, and then slowly building?
- 49:09Well, the one thing after the film review, individually with
- 49:12the players, when the players head back to the dorms for the
- 49:15night, the coaches are now getting together and they're
- 49:18saying, all right, who did? What welded a what do we need to
- 49:21emphasize? Tomorrow is their accession in
- 49:25installation where we need to kind of hammer a little bit
- 49:28more. Is there a session in practices
- 49:31where we need a little extra work?
- 49:32Like well, what do we see in practice?
- 49:35What do we see from the plays installed and how they were
- 49:38executed in practice that we need to really work on the next
- 49:42day. So there's some fluidity with
- 49:45how those sessions are run in practice and how those sessions
- 49:47are running that install. It is awesome to hear, man.
- 49:52So again, and just hearing Brent, pry, you can just hear
- 49:55the emotion in the fun, he's having in his voice, you could
- 49:58hear in the background. You can it sounds like the
- 50:02players were having fun. I'm assuming they were doing ice
- 50:05baths and joking around. After practice, you can do your
- 50:07it in it and I don't felt like we've seen that.
- 50:11So again, at the players are having fun, you know, that
- 50:15they're using you. Let it all hang out when you
- 50:19have fun, it's just the way it goes.
- 50:20All right, something we're going to keep an eye on obviously over
- 50:24these next few weeks, either in Camp, quarterback rep, watch,
- 50:28who's getting, how much who's running with the ones?
- 50:31I think Brian right now after spring, excuse me, after Brent,
- 50:36prize comments, you know, in the summer, this is really Grant
- 50:40Wells jobs to lose. yeah, that that's my feeling as well and I
- 50:45don't think that there's a whole lot that he would have to do a
- 50:50whole lot wrong to lose it. At this point, I feel like
- 50:53there's not much that the others can do to pass him, it's going
- 50:56to be if he's out there being inconsistent with the football,
- 50:59whether that's turnovers, whether that's overthrows, you
- 51:03know, whatever it may be. It's definitely something that
- 51:07he would need to lose. Not something that I think he
- 51:09can be overtaken with a performance.
- 51:11Yep, but as much, as you say that I still love them.
- 51:15Brent prize non-committal. Because he's leaving that carrot
- 51:18out there. Not only for Grant but for Jason
- 51:20Brown and don't get me wrong. Do I think Jason Brown could
- 51:23come in here and absolutely. If he plays like he did against
- 51:27Georgia Auburn in practice, could he get up and get right at
- 51:31Grant Wells? If Wells, doesn't keep the pedal
- 51:33to the metal? Yes.
- 51:34I think that could happen very easily.
- 51:37Like, like Brett said, he was an FCS All-American at st.
- 51:41Francis. He won a couple big games down
- 51:43at South Carolina last year, we're not dealing With the guy
- 51:47who's, you know, just a run-of-the-mill back up, the
- 51:50guy's a legitimate starter and, you know, I don't think I think
- 51:56Wells knows it. So I don't think Wells is going
- 51:58to take the foot off the gas, but I think his he knows I think
- 52:01Brown is trying to get that job. Yeah.
- 52:04I mean Browns definitely driving and I mean, it looks like from
- 52:08the observations from practice, you know, Browns had some good
- 52:11throws been pretty consistent. There wasn't at least in the The
- 52:16sessions that were available to the writers in the media.
- 52:22Anything significantly that jumped off.
- 52:25That said Wells was ahead of brown, just on what was seem.
- 52:30Obviously, there are other things that are factoring in
- 52:33there, that either weren't seen during their sessions or things
- 52:35like that. But, you know, I think the
- 52:38non-committal thing is good for something like this because It's
- 52:43going to push, Grant the next 10 to 14 days.
- 52:46Yeah, to have his best practice every day. 100%, 100% on that.
- 52:53And I think over the next few weeks for us as fans, you know,
- 52:58listen to what Brent process in those interviews, you know, come
- 53:02home every night, give give so much credit to the media staff
- 53:06that one that they interviewed at 4:00 was up by six.
- 53:10Yep. And so it was Tomorrow Connor,
- 53:13one, and David Cunningham was posting videos in real time.
- 53:17Andy was supposed to grab videos in real time they were.
- 53:20And then, and then, so listen to what the players say.
- 53:22This one of the coaches, say what process.
- 53:24But then with David Cunningham and a better lighting is Oleg
- 53:28Barber. All these writers try to read
- 53:31them, they're getting info, they're seeing things on the
- 53:34ground. We've had David on this show.
- 53:37David's an awesome guy also got Ava back on Tuesday, we are
- 53:41having it. Tuesday where we're going to.
- 53:44We're going about alone not by himself that there was this
- 53:49whole screen will be covered next Tuesday.
- 53:52I'm gonna see how that looks like somebody impressive to see
- 53:55but see what they're saying see what they're observing.
- 53:58That's how we're going to be seeing is brown catching Wells?
- 54:01Israel's, going ahead. All right.
- 54:03So wide receiver, statuses I mean fontelle Minds is becoming
- 54:11a star. Yeah I mean recruiting Trail
- 54:14tearing up Richmond Brent Pride, giving him the massive shoutouts
- 54:19about how his unit has developed over the summer man.
- 54:22That is awesome to hear. Yeah, I mean it seems like he's
- 54:26developing his players and obviously he's already out there
- 54:29on the recruiting Trail pulling in the most Talent of any
- 54:34position group coach this, this offseason.
- 54:36So I mean that's That's big for him.
- 54:39Yeah. And you know prosthetic that you
- 54:42know there's some talent that was untapped in this unit that
- 54:44that's our new show and he said it was a unit that has to have a
- 54:49great camp and I agreed because we're going to be them to step
- 54:52up and not only take over the production of our two leading
- 54:57receivers from last year. Yeah, but also be a more
- 55:02consistent Cog in the offense and not just be relying on that
- 55:05big play like Brett was talking about.
- 55:08Out in the passing game? Yep, that's the big piece that
- 55:11you talked about, there is having a great Camp because I
- 55:14think we see it, I think we feel comfortable, Jaden blue, the
- 55:19Wayne Lofton Caleb Smith, they can play at a D1 level.
- 55:24They have to take their games up, but it's everything behind
- 55:28them because if you tell me, they take a good step in Fall,
- 55:32okay? That's good.
- 55:34Who are the other three guys, took that step because if they
- 55:37take a step up from where they are, if they're three gas can
- 55:40get to the level of those three guys, then you're kind of
- 55:43sitting here saying, okay, we have some flexibility and I
- 55:46know, it'll make you happy to know, alright, what sort of
- 55:51formations, which were going to talk about in just a few
- 55:53minutes, but this group must have a great can.
- 55:56If they have a great Camp. It's good thing for us now.
- 56:00All right, Brian. This is yours, buddy.
- 56:04Offensive line. Combos /.
- 56:07Andy bitter. Let's start with first team.
- 56:11I don't think there is any shock there.
- 56:13Silas, Deane, Z going left to right, left tackle, Jesse,
- 56:16Hanson, left guard. Johnny, Jordan Center, Caden
- 56:19more and park. Laments.
- 56:22No shock, right? Not shocked at all.
- 56:24That's the line that we've anticipated really since kind of
- 56:27Jump Street when we started talking about this season,
- 56:30right? So the guys who we thought were
- 56:32going to be there or there, Yeah, we'll see if there's any
- 56:36movement on that but I don't the only thing I the only position I
- 56:40think there could be movement is at left guard and jewels, we'll
- 56:45see. We'll see what that what shakes
- 56:47out there but I think all the other spots are firm locks and I
- 56:50think Jesse's probably got that pretty safe as well.
- 56:54But not, I would say it's 100%. He's similar to the brown Wells
- 56:58thing. He's got to keep his foot down
- 57:00or somebody could take it. Speaking of the somebody, it
- 57:04could be one of the gentlemen, from the second team.
- 57:06And let's start Bob shake at left tackle.
- 57:09Braylon more. Holy God.
- 57:11The guy just got flipped in the spring, too offensive line.
- 57:14He's already with the second team Jack hollifield Grand.
- 57:18That's your sixth, right? That that's who I think the six
- 57:22was coming into the spring when Brent /.
- 57:26I was talking about, he's got six.
- 57:27He feels good about. All right.
- 57:29The think I think Jack hollifield was the six.
- 57:31He's put on some good weight. Wait, he played pretty well
- 57:34during the spring game so I did what I think he was talking
- 57:38about then Daniel Miller Tech the German at Right Guard in.
- 57:47There was a reason. Notre Dame was trying to get.
- 57:50Johnny Garrett to come of e. He's been on campus.
- 57:54He's already on the too deep it right tackle.
- 57:58So I mean that that itself is kind of a shock And I mean, I
- 58:03think the braylon's if you told me brilliant was on 13 I
- 58:05wouldn't be shot. Like, okay, that makes sense,
- 58:08but the way that kids already come in and jumped up, there was
- 58:12a reason, Joe Rudolph kept fighting got him in that
- 58:16offensive line room. Yeah, yeah, that movie was made
- 58:19right at the end of spring. It seems to have taken pretty
- 58:22well, that's Braylon more fighting for that left guard.
- 58:26Position is really the only thing I think is going to be
- 58:30Questionable because if he's as good as advertised in can, can
- 58:37pick up the offense and also you know, he's where he needs to be
- 58:41physically. Then I think that there's
- 58:43potential there, I think Bob shik is holding a spot right now
- 58:48because he has experience playing tackle.
- 58:53I think he's kind of the just the guy that's there is the
- 58:58emergency tackle to Art the season.
- 59:01I think Jonny Garrett's your example of a guy that they're
- 59:05trying to get him some reps right now because he's kind of
- 59:09switching positions, right? So he's easing into that that
- 59:12Tackle Spot. And I think that's going to be
- 59:17good for him. He's got these put some good
- 59:19weight on it seems. So I think he'll get his body
- 59:22ready for for the season and I think getting some extra reps is
- 59:27going to help that. Yeah.
- 59:28Now on the third teen big Xavier chaplain from down South
- 59:33Carolina and Brody, Meadows, it guard kind of two names, most
- 59:36known the other three guys are Walk-Ons.
- 59:40You know, there were talking about Johnny Dixon, who
- 59:42literally just enrolled On the go already snapping its Center.
- 59:49I think, you know, you look this year, it's still a worry spot
- 59:52but when we know there are only two guys in the front to leaving
- 59:58And then you start looking at braylin and Jack and Johnny and
- 1:00:02Xavier and Brody. And knowing Joe Rudolph is
- 1:00:06recruiting an offensive line and teaching offensive line.
- 1:00:10Yep. You feel like in the short term
- 1:00:13we're probably going to be better up front just because of
- 1:00:16Joe Rudolph. But in the long term knowing
- 1:00:20some of these players knowing their sizes, you looking at
- 1:00:22their tape it's like Is it two or three?
- 1:00:26Is it a next year or two years from now?
- 1:00:29Where there's not a defensive line in the country that wants
- 1:00:33to go against? You know, like an exam of your
- 1:00:36Braylon Jack Caden and Parker, like, I don't really want to
- 1:00:42play them cuz I'm no, it's gonna be nasty.
- 1:00:47I mean that's the Hope, right? And I think when I'm looking at
- 1:00:49the third team, in the sea Xavier, chaplain sitting there
- 1:00:53at left tackle that Future, our left tackle position, ladies and
- 1:00:57gentlemen. That's that's the guy.
- 1:00:59That's probably going to be starting for the next not
- 1:01:01counting, 23 3 to 4 years. So get ready for it.
- 1:01:08I see it happening sooner rather than later.
- 1:01:10I think if you look at the second team if not by the end of
- 1:01:13the camp by end of you know September early October you're
- 1:01:19going to see chaplain in the 2D at that at that tackle position.
- 1:01:24I think Bob shik is there until chaplain is ready.
- 1:01:28I kind of alluded to that a little bit earlier that that's
- 1:01:30kind of what I meant. I think the chapel is going to
- 1:01:32be the guy at the left tackle position.
- 1:01:35Ian, and I'm hoping that. He's up for the challenge
- 1:01:39because we need him because we are thin at that tackle
- 1:01:44position. Absolutely.
- 1:01:46All right Ron. You saw you mentioned on me.
- 1:01:50You mentioned on here and you saw Dave and Cunningham's clip
- 1:01:54what was that combo drill they were doing that you saw and I
- 1:01:57think it was Johnny Jordan I thought I saw his Johnny's
- 1:02:00number, I might be wrong but what is that something indict me
- 1:02:04we have seen that last year or is this More where it's kind of,
- 1:02:08we're moving to where we're going to do some power stuff,
- 1:02:12you would have seen it last year but it's a little bit different
- 1:02:15so you might see something like that on inside Zone.
- 1:02:19But this is more of a true combo and not just a Zone block where
- 1:02:25you're, you know, you're passing the guy off up to the next
- 1:02:29level. This is truly an actual combo at
- 1:02:32the point of attack. And so that's the drill they
- 1:02:35were working on and I really like Seeing some different
- 1:02:38concepts, a little little newer, newer concepts for for the
- 1:02:42Hokies really old Concepts. If we really think about it,
- 1:02:46creeping back into into our repertoire here, Nike check that
- 1:02:52out. David Cunningham had that as a
- 1:02:55Twitter video yesterday pretty cool to see.
- 1:02:58Okay I alluded to it earlier. Brian has been telling me what
- 1:03:03he hopes to see is formation alignment.
- 1:03:07Frequency. Brian.
- 1:03:08What the hell does that mean? So I mean, y'all know I'm an
- 1:03:14offensive nerd here. I like to really dive into what
- 1:03:17an offense likes to do and looking back at what we did when
- 1:03:23we had Robbie on kind of looking at what we expect from you know
- 1:03:28play-calling perspective, you just a play repertoire all
- 1:03:31together. What type of formations were
- 1:03:33looking at what I want to see from some of these practices as
- 1:03:38we get Peaks here and there is the frequency, the formations
- 1:03:42that bow and is using and how he is deploying the Personnel
- 1:03:46within those formations because that's going to tell me.
- 1:03:49Number one, Are we looking like more?
- 1:03:53What Joe Moorhead did are we looking at what more, like, what
- 1:03:58Ricky Ronnie does, which is very similar or we looking at a
- 1:04:01little bit of hybrid of some of that stuff.
- 1:04:04But also, some NFL Concepts that he may have picked up during his
- 1:04:09time in Jacksonville. But I also want to see the, the,
- 1:04:13the frequency because I want to see where these players are
- 1:04:17lining up. Whether it's, you know, blue in
- 1:04:19the slot, whether it's Lon In the slot is blue outside at all
- 1:04:25is is Lofton outside at all. Are these guys getting kind of
- 1:04:30moved throughout the receiver line there?
- 1:04:34Or are they kind of locked in our?
- 1:04:36These guys are outside. These guys are slotted in.
- 1:04:39There's not much position flexibility there.
- 1:04:43You know how often are we lining up in trips?
- 1:04:45How often are we lining up in Pro?
- 1:04:49How often a relining up? And In for why'd, you know, I
- 1:04:53want to I want to see these things and kind of get an idea
- 1:04:55of what this offense is going to look like, and how that ticks,
- 1:04:59we obviously know that there's going to be heavy tight in
- 1:05:02usage. And that's not just because
- 1:05:03Tyler Bowen is the the tight end Coach in the play caller, but
- 1:05:10that's kind of indicative with the Joe Moorhead style, right?
- 1:05:12That the Titan gets a lot of involvement.
- 1:05:14There's going to be that, you know, flat two-wheel concept
- 1:05:19that we have forget who it was. Wrote an article.
- 1:05:21Oh about that. That was talking, was it Brendan
- 1:05:25overnight? Even might have been, might have
- 1:05:27been French mime in French. Okay, the key player.
- 1:05:30Yeah. All right, awesome.
- 1:05:32All right, so I want to see things like that.
- 1:05:35Obviously French is. If you guys haven't checked that
- 1:05:37out of their check that out, it's a really good write-up of
- 1:05:40kind of what to expect for this offense.
- 1:05:42Neither the, he always does a good job breaking down tape.
- 1:05:44Yes, he does. Yes, he does.
- 1:05:46You mentioned the NFL he was under Darrell Bevell while with
- 1:05:52While with Jacksonville. So you kind of go back and
- 1:05:55think, where's beveled most successful years.
- 1:05:57It was over in Seattle with Marshawn with Russell.
- 1:06:00So if you see some power elements and Boots, some things
- 1:06:05like that, go back and look at some of those Seahawks games.
- 1:06:08Look at those Concepts, all right?
- 1:06:10Yeah, they tall athletic tight in as well.
- 1:06:14Yes, they did. All right.
- 1:06:18That was used a lot in the Red Zone.
- 1:06:20Yes, he was. All right, so bronze.
- 1:06:22Something we had talked about a couple times was out.
- 1:06:25Okay, who's going to be the same?
- 1:06:28Is it going to be a rotation? I don't think it's going to be a
- 1:06:31rotation anymore. Not if things are holding, like
- 1:06:35he was talking about at the, at the after practice.
- 1:06:38Presser pry, loves Chianti. Jenkins loves him.
- 1:06:42He loves what he's doing on the field.
- 1:06:46He likes that the defensive back qualities that he's bringing to
- 1:06:50that position. He likes that he's picking up
- 1:06:54things very quickly and he likes the Improvement.
- 1:06:57He's made as far as playing more in the Box.
- 1:07:00Yeah those linebacker traits is what he said.
- 1:07:02He's got he's learning those traits.
- 1:07:04Yeah and you know when you say that that immediately triggered
- 1:07:09Brian and me thinking, okay, that's cool.
- 1:07:12Gionta had a good season. Last year has always been A good
- 1:07:16player. Probably.
- 1:07:18Now, in a role where, you know, can he Excel the most?
- 1:07:23Very good potential. But we were discussing earlier
- 1:07:27today. Who's the backup?
- 1:07:31And I told this is my theory and I let Brian, you know, Compound
- 1:07:35on it. After I back up I think Jr.
- 1:07:37Walker is the backup. I think Jr.
- 1:07:39Has more defensive back skills which to me a little bit easier
- 1:07:44because if you ask to safety to go, Rush the quarterback thing,
- 1:07:48go do it. But what I think though, is,
- 1:07:51even though he's going to be the backup, I think we're going to
- 1:07:55see more kalai Lawson than we see Jr.
- 1:07:59Walker. We're in for one reason.
- 1:08:01I think there's going to be times.
- 1:08:03We know the aggressiveness of friends, private talked about
- 1:08:05it, we know about it, we've seen it, there's going to be times.
- 1:08:09He just puts kalai on the field and says, yes, he's coming.
- 1:08:12Now then we were talking about Brian.
- 1:08:15You asked, you Brian? If that happens.
- 1:08:18What are they going to do offensively?
- 1:08:20If you put kalai. Lawson on that side of the
- 1:08:23field. you're going to want to dial up, something where you get
- 1:08:27the ball out, quick, because you want to and you want to maybe
- 1:08:32get him split out in space, where if he does have any
- 1:08:37coverage responsibility, you're making him have to honor that
- 1:08:43Because I think while he does have some Elite athleticism and
- 1:08:50a very good straight line speed and obviously the wingspan is
- 1:08:53next level. I think you want to get him in
- 1:08:57space as much as possible in the coverage aspect.
- 1:09:00So if you're going to have something where you know he's
- 1:09:03not just pinning his ears back. You want to try to take
- 1:09:06advantage that way but you think prize going to fit him put him
- 1:09:10on the field to do that or do you think he's on the field?
- 1:09:13Those ears are pin back and you're going to have to make
- 1:09:16checks, right? You got the moves.
- 1:09:19Yeah, I think he, but I think loss of might end up winning
- 1:09:22that backup job out, right? We'll see.
- 1:09:24Okay. I think he's got that type of
- 1:09:26ability, but if there is a weakness at this point is, it's
- 1:09:30the fact that he's not quite as Adept in the coverage aspects of
- 1:09:35that position. Probably as the other two guys
- 1:09:38that we talked about absolutely, all right, we'll look Backer.
- 1:09:43Again, this raised our eyes even more and kind of the way it
- 1:09:48seemed as its Alan Tisdale's job right now.
- 1:09:51But man is Jaden Keller bearing down because man he talked about
- 1:09:56he plays fast. Yeah yeah and it wasn't just
- 1:10:00him. Connor was interviewing as well
- 1:10:03and he was talking about how fast he is like he shot out of a
- 1:10:06cannon and you like that that position is going to need to
- 1:10:10have good instincts. For what they're what type of
- 1:10:14run support, they're going to be bringing and things like that.
- 1:10:16So that's going to be really important.
- 1:10:19So having a guy like that, that's that's quick that, you
- 1:10:23know, can get around, tackles can get underneath blocks,
- 1:10:26things like that. So that that's going to be
- 1:10:28important for that outside linebacker position, that will
- 1:10:30backers. So, we'll see if Keller can push
- 1:10:33for the starting role. Obviously, the story with
- 1:10:36Tisdale has that ability, is there in consistency is the
- 1:10:39issue, you know, Pride talked about, you know, Actually that
- 1:10:43being leaked to some, you know, fatigue breaking down, you know,
- 1:10:49the mental focus and things like that.
- 1:10:51We'll see if a camp under pry rectifies any of that.
- 1:10:58You know, I talked about earlier Camp, should be the hardest part
- 1:11:01of the season. And and hopefully hopefully some
- 1:11:05of that stuff carries over into the season so we'll see.
- 1:11:09But yeah, I like I like what Keller's doing and we'll see if
- 1:11:13he can push push his tail and obviously if he does that's
- 1:11:17that's better for us because that means we're improved from
- 1:11:20last year, if nothing else, right?
- 1:11:22Absolutely. In the to details, you're
- 1:11:25talking about there, there's opportunities there potentially,
- 1:11:29to put them both on the field at the same time, mix and match.
- 1:11:33Match with, you know, with Dax with Keyshawn.
- 1:11:37Maybe even occasionally. Hey we're going to slip one of
- 1:11:39them over to Sam. Just to the depth is going to
- 1:11:44help. Anytime you have multiple
- 1:11:47players at any position that can play will help you in the long
- 1:11:52run. Now we'll flip one more piece
- 1:11:55here before we close everything out tonight.
- 1:11:57They interview tomorrow Connor short interview You know, Jamari
- 1:12:03himself well but before he got up there, Brent Pride praised
- 1:12:06him about he saying, he probably is the best all-around player on
- 1:12:11the team. From a leadership, from a play
- 1:12:13perspective, kind of checks all the boxes and you love to hear
- 1:12:17that from a guy that he asked to move from the whip from the Sam,
- 1:12:22to go back to free safety. And when you get that sort of,
- 1:12:25praise it tells you a lot about, you know, Shamari as a person.
- 1:12:31But then also tomorrow is a football player that he's
- 1:12:33adapted that well to get that sort of Praise from rent fry.
- 1:12:37Yeah, it talks about his leadership and team first
- 1:12:39mentality as well, right? So, I think that's big and, you
- 1:12:43know, I think, you know, Connor physical traits are great, you
- 1:12:49know, we've talked about in the past some of his inconsistencies
- 1:12:52in coverage and sometimes it's inconsistency in Making the the
- 1:12:57sure tackle, right? Yeah, but when he's coming
- 1:13:01downhill, when he's sure of it. He's going to lay the lumber
- 1:13:05man. Yes, he will.
- 1:13:06He's a big hitter. He's got good athleticism.
- 1:13:10So and I think he's going to be a good leader in the in that
- 1:13:14back half of the defense. And I think that's another
- 1:13:18reason that that changes made, right?
- 1:13:20Because now you've got garbage kind of the de facto leader of
- 1:13:25that defensive line you got, you got decks their de facto leader
- 1:13:32of the linebacker Corps. Now you've got Connor in the
- 1:13:35secondary as that kind of Elder Statesman in the room.
- 1:13:40So you got you got good leadership across each level the
- 1:13:43defense and I think that's important to all right?
- 1:13:46Right. Well Braun is anything broken in
- 1:13:49the last hour here since we've Been talking to Brett from six,
- 1:13:55pick six previews. Now I think we're good to go man
- 1:13:59again, shout out to Brett ciancia pick six previews for
- 1:14:04joining us tonight. Great information is always, and
- 1:14:09we really appreciate the expertise and the Deep level
- 1:14:14data analytics. Being a data guy here that that
- 1:14:18he brings to the table to the sport.
- 1:14:20So again, go Out, grabbed his magazine.
- 1:14:24We got the digital copy, he's got the hard copy this year, so
- 1:14:27if you prefer that the, the feel and touch of paper, turning the
- 1:14:32pages, grab that too, man, get it.
- 1:14:35Like, seriously, this is the second year.
- 1:14:37We gotta, we had him on last year.
- 1:14:38We picked it up so much info, so much detail.
- 1:14:42Sort of drawing you out there. And you know, when you see the
- 1:14:46data, you kind of say okay if we improve here and here we can be
- 1:14:49a much better football team and you start looking at the
- 1:14:52opponents. It really gets you down a rabbit
- 1:14:54hole. Yeah.
- 1:14:56All right, brother. And the visuals that had that he
- 1:14:58has the data area is really what separates his side from the the
- 1:15:05predictions themselves is really what separates his Magazine from
- 1:15:09from the others out there. Absolutely.
- 1:15:12All right. Well Brian let's promo one more
- 1:15:14time. Tuesday, night 9:30 right here.

- 1:16:34I shall work down today, man, but y'all got to come to this.
- 1:16:38We are going to ask these guys, some great questions and these
- 1:16:43guys, I mean, there's a hokey. There's, there's so much hokey
- 1:16:48info, and so much opinion, and all of them.
- 1:16:51They're great, dudes. I can't wait for the Round
- 1:16:54Table. The back and forth, man.
- 1:16:56And we're yeah, the perspectives.
- 1:16:58I've obviously, all these guys are in the, the Hokie podcast
- 1:17:01game and once one way shape or form.
- 1:17:04Yep. But the different experiences
- 1:17:07that they bring to the table, the different perspectives that
- 1:17:09they bring to the table, I say it all the time Hokie Nation,
- 1:17:15we've got one of the best content creation podcast folks
- 1:17:21out there. And it's really The awesome that
- 1:17:26everyone agreed to jump on with us because this is something
- 1:17:29that's been rolling around in my head.
- 1:17:31Yeah. Since since, the early spring, I
- 1:17:34was like, hey, you know, I really want to do a round table.
- 1:17:37I want to get everybody or as many as we can, at least one
- 1:17:40person from, you know, a lot of the major podcasts out their own
- 1:17:44are talking preview, you know, talking about what they expect
- 1:17:49from the season. We obviously got a new coach,
- 1:17:52there's just so much to kind of roll over in.
- 1:17:54And things that we can really bounce off each other.
- 1:17:57I want to I want to push back on each other a little bit.
- 1:17:59I know that you know, not everybody is of the same mind.
- 1:18:02I appreciate that. I really like when we can get
- 1:18:06together and you know, we talked about it, iron sharpens iron, I
- 1:18:09think this is something where everybody can learn a little
- 1:18:12something and I think we can provide some, some good good
- 1:18:16content for everybody out there. Yeah.
- 1:18:19And usually in, in the boundary Corner podcast, is usually me,
- 1:18:23I'm talking content to Brian Brian's challenging me in this
- 1:18:27case, when he came to me, I challenged you I challenge you
- 1:18:31on a couple things I pushed back and then and then finally about
- 1:18:35July, we hit that sweet spot. That that that's how we create
- 1:18:39our content, we talked, and then we mold and then we hit The
- 1:18:42Sweet Spot. And, you know, I look so forward
- 1:18:47to it, and meeting with those guys right here.
