- 0:00Speaker 1: It's up tea good Monday to you. What's up, Kratz
- 0:04Speaker 1: Przinski Ron. We don't love to start this way, but
- 0:08Speaker 1: I think we should start this way to honor a
- 0:11Speaker 1: legend in our sport, in the media world.
- 0:13Speaker 2: So let's do that. AJ.
- 0:16Speaker 1: John Sterling passed away. We got the news this morning.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Eighty seven years old. Just a fixture in our sport
- 0:22Speaker 1: for a long time. And to me, it didn't just
- 0:25Speaker 1: have to do with him calling Yankee games for such
- 0:27Speaker 1: a long period of time.
- 0:28Speaker 2: AJ.
- 0:29Speaker 1: If he called games for any team, you would have
- 0:30Speaker 1: known who he was. That's how unique and special he was.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Yeah, he was. He was great.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I mean, obviously his impact is not only in the Yankees,
- 0:37Speaker 4: but people say, oh, I know, duh.
- 0:39Speaker 5: Yankees whatever, win all the time and that whole deal.
- 0:42Speaker 4: So uh, you know, David Ortiz on Fox all the
- 0:44Speaker 4: time when they lose, says no Yankees lose. And the
- 0:47Speaker 4: nicknames he had and all the things that he did,
- 0:49Speaker 4: and him and Susan Waldman were.
- 0:51Speaker 5: A special, special pair.
- 0:52Speaker 4: So yeah, this is this is sad news in the
- 0:54Speaker 4: world of baseball, especially in the Yankee world. But yeah,
- 0:58Speaker 4: rip John, We'll miss you, and we'll definitely miss hearing
- 1:00Speaker 4: your voice. It's like when Bob Shepard passed away in
- 1:03Speaker 4: Yankee Stadium. He just wasn't the same.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, I still have the message, and I'll never
- 1:10Speaker 3: I'll never delete the voicemail that John Sterling left me
- 1:13Speaker 3: because it encapsulates whether you liked him or you didn't
- 1:18Speaker 3: like him on the radio, whether you were a Yankee
- 1:21Speaker 3: fan or you weren't a Yankee fan. But I love
- 1:23Speaker 3: the fact that his voice when he's just talking to
- 1:26Speaker 3: you and leaving a message on your phone is the
- 1:29Speaker 3: exact same as when he's calling the Yankees game, when
- 1:33Speaker 3: he's giving the descriptions, when he's reading all the reads
- 1:36Speaker 3: that the Yankees him and Susan Waldman had to read
- 1:40Speaker 3: for all the games. And then obviously you know the
- 1:42Speaker 3: home run calls, like that stuff is. It's iconic because
- 1:47Speaker 3: if you were a Yankee and you hit a homer,
- 1:49Speaker 3: you'll remember what John Sterling's call was for you.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Oh. It was such a debate and a topic of
- 1:57Speaker 1: conversation when a player would get called up, fans would
- 2:00Speaker 1: try and come up with what he was going to
- 2:03Speaker 1: say for that first home run.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So we have the call.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I think Kratz from Sterling, Is that true? Yes, we
- 2:10Speaker 1: do have it, so let's play it.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I have a few regrets in my playing days. One
- 2:15Speaker 3: is I never hit a triple. But the other one
- 2:18Speaker 3: is I never hit a home run for the Yankees.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I played there in seventeen, got two at bats, and
- 2:24Speaker 3: then twenty twenty and I never got a Kratz home
- 2:28Speaker 3: run call from John Sterling. And everybody said, well, you
- 2:32Speaker 3: know he planned it. If you're on the team, he
- 2:34Speaker 3: planned it. So I have to know what would my
- 2:38Speaker 3: home run call have been.
- 2:41Speaker 6: I really don't know, but I would have done it.
- 2:46Speaker 6: I would have done something on Crats.
- 2:49Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:49Speaker 6: I'm from Milwaukee and I.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Ought to know.
- 2:52Speaker 6: It's Crats, Crats, Cratz, scrats wherever you go. Obviously the
- 2:57Speaker 6: beer was blatch. But that's just a good But I mean,
- 3:01Speaker 6: I haven't worked on it, you know, let me work
- 3:03Speaker 6: on it, please. And then at a home run, yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 6: of course crats.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Maybe he was like, eh, I don't really have.
- 3:10Speaker 5: I gotta worry about Crat sitting a homer.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So that's good. That was fun. I remember that, and
- 3:17Speaker 2: Aj he was the showman to me.
- 3:19Speaker 1: That's what stands out too, is we're giving this guy
- 3:22Speaker 1: a pop quiz after he's retired from calling games, and
- 3:25Speaker 1: he's turning it into a song and dance and a unique.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Call out for crats in a matter of seconds. That's good, improv.
- 3:32Speaker 4: No, he was great again. Every time he talked to him,
- 3:34Speaker 4: he was happy. He always put a big smile on
- 3:36Speaker 4: your face when you saw him. Every time I'd see him,
- 3:38Speaker 4: you know, a couple of times a year, he'd come
- 3:40Speaker 4: up and speak and it was.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Just he was just a special human being man. And
- 3:44Speaker 5: he will be missed.
- 3:44Speaker 4: I mean he's already been missed around the Yankees games
- 3:46Speaker 4: as we all know, not calling them all.
- 3:48Speaker 5: But yeah, he was.
- 3:49Speaker 3: He was special.
- 3:50Speaker 4: And it's things like this people don't understand about baseball.
- 3:54Speaker 4: When you all always listen to either the play by
- 3:56Speaker 4: play guy of your home team on TV or your radio,
- 4:00Speaker 4: which a lot of people like to listen to the radio,
- 4:04Speaker 4: you kind of grow up with them and they're there
- 4:05Speaker 4: your whole life, and you get used to their cadence
- 4:07Speaker 4: and how they call games and how they say things
- 4:10Speaker 4: and how they do things. And I think that's one
- 4:12Speaker 4: of the reasons why so many national guys when we
- 4:14Speaker 4: go in to do a game, people like, oh, I
- 4:15Speaker 4: hate this guy.
- 4:16Speaker 5: Oh you know, he's not this guy. He's not that guy.
- 4:18Speaker 5: It's because they're used.
- 4:19Speaker 4: You become used to of one hundred and sixty two
- 4:21Speaker 4: all summer, summer after summer after summer. You get the
- 4:24Speaker 4: same voice in your ear all the time, whether it's
- 4:26Speaker 4: radio or television. And then you get to the playoffs,
- 4:29Speaker 4: which are the most important games, and you have different
- 4:31Speaker 4: people talking. So it was special to get to know
- 4:34Speaker 4: John and get to be around him a little bit
- 4:36Speaker 4: that I was, and again he'll be missed.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a memory for me going around the car
- 4:43Speaker 1: when you're a kid and listening to baseball games.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And I lived in the New York area.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I was in New Jersey, close to the city, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: I would listen to menton Yankees games, so I heard
- 4:53Speaker 1: a lot of John Sterling, and it actually was part
- 4:55Speaker 1: of making me obsessed with audio for media and for baseball.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And eventually now here we are doing a show that's
- 5:02Speaker 1: also a podcast. So one more thing, a note from
- 5:05Speaker 1: Jason Stark. We'll play one more clip and then we'll
- 5:07Speaker 1: get rolling with some news. So Stark wrote this morning
- 5:11Speaker 1: that from nineteen eighty nine, opening day when Sterling started
- 5:16Speaker 1: till July third, twenty nineteen, he called every Yankee game
- 5:20Speaker 1: that was his streak, and that was twenty seven hundred
- 5:23Speaker 1: and sixty three regular season Yankee wins that he called
- 5:29Speaker 1: using that iconic call. So one more clip with our
- 5:33Speaker 1: run in with John Sterling, because we had a couple
- 5:35Speaker 1: and it was great. Here is John a couple of
- 5:38Speaker 1: years ago at the BBWAA Awards that we covered.
- 5:41Speaker 7: This award that I don't deserve is a long and
- 5:45Speaker 7: meritorious award from my lifetime contributions to baseball. Well actually
- 5:50Speaker 7: actually be giving baseball the award. When I was a
- 5:53Speaker 7: kid at seven years old, I.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Knew what I was gonna do. I was going on
- 5:57Speaker 3: the air.
- 5:57Speaker 8: I never dreamed I would get the Yankee job, and
- 6:00Speaker 8: I had a pretty good career going when in nineteen
- 6:02Speaker 8: eighty nine, out of the blue, I got the Yankee
- 6:05Speaker 8: job by four the luckiest thing that ever happened to me.
- 6:08Speaker 8: And here it is thirty six years later, twenty years
- 6:12Speaker 8: with Susan Waldman, a woman who I obviously love and admire.
- 6:17Speaker 8: Here's another day, February first, nineteen sixty were any of
- 6:20Speaker 8: you born then? As my first day on the air,
- 6:23Speaker 8: and when February first comes up in a few days,
- 6:26Speaker 8: it'll be sixty five years on the air doing something
- 6:30Speaker 8: I've wanted to do all my life.
- 6:32Speaker 3: How lucky of mine.
- 6:33Speaker 7: Thank you Baseball for the award, Thank you everyone for
- 6:36Speaker 7: being here.
- 6:37Speaker 3: God bless you all.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Wow that was special.
- 6:43Speaker 1: What a full life and what a baseball lifer guy
- 6:47Speaker 1: who just loved the game and would show up every day,
- 6:51Speaker 1: not complaining in a great mood, maybe complaining on the
- 6:54Speaker 1: air about how the team looks, although he called games
- 6:56Speaker 1: for a pretty damn good team, which we're about to
- 6:59Speaker 1: talk about.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So let's get to that.
- 7:03Speaker 1: You know, we don't always have to do things because
- 7:05Speaker 1: that's how it's always been.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Look, people consider me old school, and I thought I was,
- 7:09Speaker 4: but then we had to pitch clock and the abs
- 7:12Speaker 4: and ban on shifts and all these things that we've
- 7:14Speaker 4: had for a long time in baseball. And you know what,
- 7:16Speaker 4: much like Mintmobile and the other mobile carriers, I'm here
- 7:19Speaker 4: for the new school and the changes that have been made.
- 7:22Speaker 3: It's a good call.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You can ditch over priced wireless. You don't have to say, oh,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'm paying that, because that's how it's always been. Get
- 7:29Speaker 1: three months of premium wireless service from mint Mobile for
- 7:32Speaker 1: fifteen bucks a month. All plans come with high speed

- 7:37Speaker 1: largest five G network. If you like your money, mint
- 7:40Speaker 1: Mobile is for you. Shot plans at mintmobile dot com
- 7:43Speaker 1: slash territory. That's mintmobile dot com slash territory. Upfront payment

- 7:58Speaker 1: Taxes and fees extra see mint Mobile for details. Get
- 8:02Speaker 1: after at ft fam charge. All Right, here we go,
- 8:08Speaker 1: aj the Yankees swept the Orioles. We'll get into what's
- 8:11Speaker 1: good and what's bad for both sides of that matchup,
- 8:13Speaker 1: but I do want to start with some pretty big news.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Anthony Volpi has been a big part of the Yankees
- 8:18Speaker 1: for his first few years of his career, and now
- 8:21Speaker 1: he's coming back from soulder surgery. He's rehabbing in the
- 8:24Speaker 1: minor leagues. The Yankees chose to option him, so they
- 8:27Speaker 1: made a statement that they'd like to see Jose Cabiro
- 8:31Speaker 1: continue in that starting shortstop role for now and more
- 8:34Speaker 1: seasoning from Volpi as he tries to work himself back.
- 8:37Speaker 1: There's a lot of layers to this story that I
- 8:39Speaker 1: haven't seen a ton about yet, so I want to
- 8:41Speaker 1: get into this too. Twenty more days in the minor leagues,
- 8:43Speaker 1: his free agency gets pushed back a year from twenty
- 8:45Speaker 1: twenty eight to twenty twenty nine. That's not why the
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yankees are doing it, in my opinion, but it is
- 8:49Speaker 1: something to keep in mind. If he stays down there
- 8:52Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks, you could, I don't know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: get some more articles popping up about the fact. And
- 8:56Speaker 1: then one more thing for you, AJ, there's a guy
- 8:59Speaker 1: named George Lombard Junior who is one of the top
- 9:02Speaker 1: prospects in the sport and already looks defensively good to
- 9:05Speaker 1: go in the big leagues, and he might jump over him.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So there's a lot of action going on with the
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yankee shortstop position these days.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Huh what it was the famous Yankee Wally Pip. That's
- 9:14Speaker 4: why you want to stay on the field. Do you
- 9:16Speaker 4: always want to stay on the field. You always want
- 9:18Speaker 4: to be there because you never know what can happen.
- 9:20Speaker 4: We've seen this happen plenty of times where guys get
- 9:22Speaker 4: injured and they lose their job because somebody just outplays them.
- 9:25Speaker 4: And right now, Cabiiro and the Yankees are playing well.
- 9:27Speaker 4: They don't want to mess with it and they don't
- 9:29Speaker 4: want to have to worry about, well, how do we
- 9:30Speaker 4: get Anthony Vultpi in the lineup and make him healthy.
- 9:32Speaker 4: We need to see more out of him. We've talked
- 9:34Speaker 4: about this how many years now. Dolpi is what he is.
- 9:37Speaker 4: He gives you, you know, his defense is what it is.
- 9:40Speaker 4: He's won a Gold Glove. But then the offense, the
- 9:42Speaker 4: six seventy ops and all that whatever, the ops is
- 9:46Speaker 4: over his career, right so this.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Isn't really that. I don't think it's that big of
- 9:50Speaker 5: a surprise.
- 9:50Speaker 4: It's a surprise because of the name and the Volti hype,
- 9:54Speaker 4: and the Yankees are like, hope, he's going to be
- 9:55Speaker 4: the best player since Derek Jeter and this and that,
- 9:58Speaker 4: and it hasn't worked out. But if you look at
- 10:00Speaker 4: Volpi's numbers, he Cabero is a better player right now.
- 10:05Speaker 4: I feel like in the Yankees feel that way. So yeah, well,
- 10:08Speaker 4: could it possibly hurt his free agency, yes, but the
- 10:11Speaker 4: Yankees don't care about that. The Yankees care about who's
- 10:14Speaker 4: the best player to help them win right now, and
- 10:15Speaker 4: right now it's Ose Cabiro. And this is what happens.
- 10:18Speaker 4: You play good, you stay in the big leagues. You
- 10:21Speaker 4: don't play good, you get sent down to Triple A
- 10:23Speaker 4: or you get released. It's just this is the nature
- 10:25Speaker 4: of the beast. It's a hard game. It's definitely a
- 10:28Speaker 4: hard game, and it's what have you done for me lately?
- 10:32Speaker 4: And in no way the Yankees swayed by talk radio
- 10:35Speaker 4: to get Volpi out of there.
- 10:37Speaker 3: They still believe in Anthony Volpi, but they also can
- 10:41Speaker 3: look at history of people who have had shoulder surgeries.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Not necessarily worried about his throwing because I think it's
- 10:50Speaker 3: his left shoulder, But how is that power going to
- 10:53Speaker 3: come back? Because offensively, you know what is the Offensively?
- 10:58Speaker 3: I think he's you know, he's an eighteen to twenty
- 11:01Speaker 3: home run guy, which some people would argue, well he
- 11:03Speaker 3: should be a twelve home run guy and a higher
- 11:05Speaker 3: batting average, blah blah blah. But there is you know,
- 11:10Speaker 3: there's something that he has to bring back to the game.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Is that power. And if that power is not there yet,
- 11:15Speaker 3: while he's rehabbing, which some guys Matt McLean's the prime example.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I'm not saying to the same player. I'm saying a
- 11:21Speaker 3: shoulder surgery and it takes a little bit to get going.
- 11:26Speaker 3: And if they have Jose Cavalierro playing well, then he's
- 11:30Speaker 3: got over a seven hundred ops right now. He's playing well,
- 11:34Speaker 3: playing a decent shortstop. I still think Volpi and they
- 11:37Speaker 3: think Volpi is an upgrade at shortstop. I think Boone
- 11:40Speaker 3: even said it. Once he comes back, he is an upgrade.
- 11:44Speaker 3: What's the rush? They're winning games and Cabiro is not
- 11:47Speaker 3: that much of a much of a step down, even
- 11:52Speaker 3: if they thought he was a step down, like Volpi
- 11:55Speaker 3: has to earn the spot in the sense that he
- 11:57Speaker 3: has to be better than everybody else they're going to
- 11:59Speaker 3: put out there, whether it's Lombard like Scott said, or
- 12:02Speaker 3: it's Jose who's been there for the last two months
- 12:05Speaker 3: in the big leagues month and a half.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think Lombard might come up this season.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I mean, if he starts hitting, they're going to call
- 12:11Speaker 1: him up. The hitting right, he's got work to do.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I mean he's at triple A. So if he goes
- 12:16Speaker 1: on a heater for a month. They'll call him up
- 12:19Speaker 1: if they feel like they have a spot for him.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Caba Yerra can also shift over to third at some
- 12:22Speaker 1: point if McMahon's not hitting for them and they want
- 12:25Speaker 1: to platoon him more. There's a lot of action going
- 12:28Speaker 1: on here. I mean aj Brian Cashman said, I think
- 12:31Speaker 1: it was almost three weeks ago. Quote always the plan
- 12:36Speaker 1: for Volpi to return once the rehab concluded in that
- 12:39Speaker 1: twenty day window and start at shortstop. Guess what plans change,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and I will say on the defensive side. Right now,
- 12:46Speaker 1: Cabayarro is at a plus seven I think it's plus
- 12:49Speaker 1: seven drs, which is best among shortstops in baseball. That's
- 12:53Speaker 1: a stat that Iron Boon really likes. Some people that
- 12:56Speaker 1: got some average to go right. He's got twelve stolen
- 12:59Speaker 1: bag like he's he's doing it, and the Yankees look
- 13:02Speaker 1: like the best team in the American League right now.
- 13:04Speaker 1: The last thing you want to do if you're the
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yankees is call him up. He doesn't play well, Like
- 13:09Speaker 1: krat said, you're coming off shoulder surgery. Yankees lose some games,
- 13:12Speaker 1: and then this is the favorite guy over the past
- 13:14Speaker 1: couple of years for Yankee fans, media everything to kind
- 13:17Speaker 1: of pour it on against and I actually understand what
- 13:20Speaker 1: they're saying on one point. Sometimes you know, front office
- 13:22Speaker 1: loves their move so much that they stick with it
- 13:24Speaker 1: too long. And in this case, the Yankees are doing
- 13:26Speaker 1: things a little bit more aggressively this year, optioning Louise Heal.
- 13:29Speaker 1: This is a great sign of Hey, right now, what
- 13:31Speaker 1: we've got is working. We don't want to disrupt that.
- 13:34Speaker 1: If you look Chris Kershner in the athletic rope, of
- 13:37Speaker 1: the one hundred and eighteen players who have had at
- 13:40Speaker 1: least fifteen hundred played appearance in since Folpy debut in
- 13:43Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, Volpi has the worst on base percentage,
- 13:46Speaker 1: the second worst batting average, the third worst OPS and
- 13:49Speaker 1: that's OPS not adjusted, and you're in Yankee Stadium, fourth
- 13:52Speaker 1: worst adjusted weighted runs created plus, and seventh worst slugging percentage.
- 14:00Speaker 3: He's not good.
- 14:01Speaker 4: I'm sorry, he's not He's not an above average player,
- 14:03Speaker 4: so he doesn't deserve Just if this is Aaron Judge,
- 14:07Speaker 4: guess what and whoever they call up? If Aaron Judge
- 14:09Speaker 4: goes off and hits twenty homers, guess who's gonna come back?
- 14:11Speaker 4: In line up, Aaron Judge, You'll find a place.
- 14:13Speaker 5: For the other guy.
- 14:14Speaker 4: But Anthony Volpi has not been that level of a player.
- 14:17Speaker 4: I'm sorry, and it's stinks if you're Anthony Volpi and
- 14:19Speaker 4: stinks if you're a Vulpey fan, if you're stinks if
- 14:21Speaker 4: you're a Yankee and you love Volpi. I'm sorry, but
- 14:24Speaker 4: he hasn't earned that right to come back and just
- 14:27Speaker 4: take that spot again, especially with the statute've thrown out
- 14:29Speaker 4: about kaby Eiro. That's the way the Yankees are look
- 14:32Speaker 4: at it, and good for them. It sucks for Anthony Volpe.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Anthony Volpi. Enjoy I don't even where Triple
- 14:36Speaker 4: A Scranton. I guess I don't know where Triple anymore.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Enjoy scrant for for a while until things get better.
- 14:43Speaker 4: You figure it out.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Mm hmm, yeah, the other.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Person you have to like. I think I think a
- 14:50Speaker 3: j and I say this all the time, but I
- 14:52Speaker 3: think it gets lost because people just see superstars and
- 14:55Speaker 3: superstars and that you know, this is never a story
- 14:58Speaker 3: around superstars. Anthony is not a superstar. Do I believe
- 15:02Speaker 3: that he still has some good baseball ahead of him?
- 15:04Speaker 3: And is he a big league shortstop. Absolutely, but the
- 15:08Speaker 3: biggest thing is you have to be better than the
- 15:11Speaker 3: other person. He could be better than twenty nine other shortstops. Well,
- 15:16Speaker 3: you know what, He's on the Yankees right now and
- 15:18Speaker 3: Jose cabiiro is doing well, so it's okay that they
- 15:23Speaker 3: can use him in Triple A and have Anthony Volpia's depth.
- 15:27Speaker 3: He has to be able to make that adjustment, which
- 15:31Speaker 3: is gonna be tough. He was up in the big
- 15:33Speaker 3: leagues I think at yeah, twenty two years old. So
- 15:36Speaker 3: now to have three straight years in the big leagues
- 15:39Speaker 3: and then be in the bushes. The fact that you've
- 15:42Speaker 3: been probably hitting with the one ear flap on your
- 15:44Speaker 3: rehab assignment and now you have to go and get
- 15:47Speaker 3: the Darth Vader two ear flat helmet. Like, there's a
- 15:51Speaker 3: lot of things that are adjustments, but ultimately you have
- 15:55Speaker 3: to be better than the next guy. And don't just
- 15:57Speaker 3: look ahead. He might look behind cause Lombard's coming too.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Let's talk love life ft family. I know it's an
- 16:07Speaker 4: important part of everyone's life, but if you need help
- 16:10Speaker 4: or if you don't, Gluechoo Gold is changing the game

- 16:15Speaker 1: Life that was beautifully delivered. The new arousal boosting formula
- 16:20Speaker 1: combines passion and performance into one tablet that dissolves under
- 16:23Speaker 1: your tongue for super fast on set. No more waiting
- 16:26Speaker 1: for a pill to kick in, no more moments ruined
- 16:28Speaker 1: by performance anxiety, just the results you want, when you
- 16:32Speaker 1: want them. Most DD meds only focus on blood flow,
- 16:35Speaker 1: but Blue Choo Gold goes further by combining two ingredients
- 16:39Speaker 1: for blood flow with two more for mental arousal and connection,
- 16:43Speaker 1: so you're not just physically ready, you're actually in the mood.

- 16:48Speaker 1: and you buy two months of Bluechoo Gold, you get
- 16:51Speaker 1: the third for free with promo code foul.
- 16:54Speaker 2: That's promo code foul.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Visit blue you dot com for more details and important
- 16:58Speaker 1: safety information, and we thank Blue Chew for sponsoring the podcast. Yeah,
- 17:05Speaker 1: it's fiercely competitive. The Yankees has done a really nice
- 17:07Speaker 1: job lately of developing some players. We're seeing Rice go
- 17:10Speaker 1: off again this weekend.
- 17:12Speaker 2: A now they're home er.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yankees had it just a huge series, taking the first
- 17:16Speaker 1: three and then they've got one more on Monday to
- 17:19Speaker 1: finish up the series against Baltimore.
- 17:21Speaker 2: But they're just looking at Dominic by the way they
- 17:24Speaker 2: do Baltimore. You think the Oriel stink right now. But
- 17:28Speaker 2: against the.
- 17:30Speaker 5: They're not playing well. I know they're not hit.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I actually think people are going too hard on them.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I think they're okay. I mean, yeah, they're not hitting,
- 17:38Speaker 1: their defense doesn't look great, and their pitching is off
- 17:40Speaker 1: to a slow start.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yet they're fifteen to nineteen.
- 17:43Speaker 4: So okay, So how are they decent that if you
- 17:45Speaker 4: said they're pitching, their defense and their offense stinks, so
- 17:48Speaker 4: which which one is good that they should be not
- 17:50Speaker 4: worried about.
- 17:51Speaker 1: They've still won fifteen games, I think so. I think
- 17:54Speaker 1: the pitching will be better than this. I think the
- 17:56Speaker 1: defense will be better than this, and I think the
- 17:57Speaker 1: offense will be better than this.
- 18:00Speaker 3: I'm concerned about their defense. I'm concerned about their defense.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I believe their offense is going to be good and
- 18:07Speaker 3: probably one of those things where, hey, it should should
- 18:10Speaker 3: be good at some point. I still think the Rangers
- 18:12Speaker 3: offense should be good. If they're not. If they're in
- 18:14Speaker 3: Globe life, they they can't hit. If they go on
- 18:17Speaker 3: the road, they can hit a little bit more. But
- 18:19Speaker 3: like the Orioles. I think that offense is gonna be good.
- 18:22Speaker 3: I'm concerned about the defense, and I'm concerned about the
- 18:25Speaker 3: defense because or it's concerning to me because this pitching
- 18:30Speaker 3: staff needs some help. They need they you know, you
- 18:33Speaker 3: build that staff to be for years to be strikeout guys,
- 18:37Speaker 3: which you know Rogers can he get his strikeouts? Bradish
- 18:41Speaker 3: is a strikeout guy? Is it? And right now it's
- 18:43Speaker 3: not happening at the same clip that I think they
- 18:46Speaker 3: thought it was gonna happen, and then the bullpen.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Wasn't.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I don't think the bullpen was built necessarily to be
- 18:52Speaker 3: able to withstand many blips in the road. And if
- 18:54Speaker 3: their defense isn't going very well, I just think. I
- 18:58Speaker 3: just think they're gonna have an uphill battle for the
- 19:01Speaker 3: most of it for the rest of the year.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I just I think that the team on paper should
- 19:07Speaker 1: be better than this and will be better than this.
- 19:10Speaker 3: I think they're going.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I get it. I get it.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Well, here's the thing. The Yankees aren't going anywhere. The
- 19:15Speaker 4: Rays don't look like they're going anywhere. The only reason
- 19:17Speaker 4: the Oriols aren't a more of a story is because
- 19:18Speaker 4: the Red Sox have stunk so bad. I mean that's
- 19:22Speaker 4: in the American League is kind of stunk in general. Yep, sorry,
- 19:26Speaker 4: I mean the American League hasn't been good. The Yankees
- 19:28Speaker 4: raised in eighties are like the only teams like well,
- 19:30Speaker 4: I think the Tigers stuck over five hundred now, but
- 19:34Speaker 4: other than that, the American League ain't very good.
- 19:37Speaker 3: So what we said last year not as good as
- 19:40Speaker 3: the National League.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I'm sorry, but the Orioles, you can say, oh,
- 19:44Speaker 4: they're supposed to be this, They're supposed to be that.
- 19:46Speaker 4: They haven't been for two years now, Scott, I'm sorry.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Craig Albert has seems like he's gonna be a good manager, right,
- 19:54Speaker 4: but Jackson Holiday is still not back, right, But you know,
- 19:58Speaker 4: Peter Alonso hasn't clicked yet, Tyler and Ne thing hasn't
- 20:00Speaker 4: worked out, Kobe Mayo hasn't worked right, Coltin Cows are
- 20:04Speaker 4: all these guys that did all we're all counting on, right,
- 20:07Speaker 4: Westburg's heard again, It's like, okay, with some point, it's
- 20:11Speaker 4: like Anthony Volpi, you are what you are, and this
- 20:13Speaker 4: is what they've been for the last year and a half.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Now.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Sorry, I want the Orders to be good because I
- 20:18Speaker 4: like their team, and I like a lot of their
- 20:19Speaker 4: players on a personal level, but so they haven't been
- 20:22Speaker 4: very good the last couple of years.
- 20:24Speaker 5: They just haven't.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I think offensively they do have. I think guys are
- 20:28Speaker 3: gonna start clicking. Why I say that, I just think
- 20:33Speaker 3: I think Adlee coming off the injury, has put together
- 20:36Speaker 3: a better at batch driving runs in. I think Gunner
- 20:39Speaker 3: is just always going to come back to where he is.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Taylor Ward is having a good season statistically, but I
- 20:46Speaker 3: think he only has one homer yet. And so I
- 20:49Speaker 3: think this team offensively, you can count on Peter Alonzo's
- 20:55Speaker 3: I would bet the house that Peter Lonza is gonna
- 20:56Speaker 3: hit thirty five homers this year, and so I think
- 20:59Speaker 3: there's there's a lot of room for a lot of
- 21:01Speaker 3: these guys to go up as far as like more
- 21:06Speaker 3: of the counting stats, not just the batting average, but
- 21:09Speaker 3: like RBIs homers. I think they're gonna start I think
- 21:13Speaker 3: they're gonna get going. And I would agree with Scott
- 21:15Speaker 3: the fact that they've won fifteen and you would say
- 21:18Speaker 3: their team isn't hitting, playing good defense, or pitching very well.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Yet I think that is where maybe some more optimism
- 21:28Speaker 3: than some other teams that are at fifteen.
- 21:31Speaker 1: And nineteen, thank you my point, Yes, close enough to
- 21:34Speaker 1: five hundred that they are not clicking on any cylinder,
- 21:37Speaker 1: but I think they will. So I just think it's
- 21:38Speaker 1: a team that can rattle off, you know, seven eight
- 21:40Speaker 1: nine wins in a row, where there's some other teams
- 21:42Speaker 1: with crappy starts that I just don't see it for.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I mean, we talked.
- 21:45Speaker 4: About which pitchers do you trust in that starting rotation
- 21:49Speaker 4: to rattle off seven eight nine in a row.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Bradish first full season back, Rogers, Rogers when he returns
- 21:57Speaker 1: from the illness. So there's three already right from the jump,
- 22:03Speaker 1: there's three in the back end.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Povich Kramer.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I mean, Gibson well did well, but it clearly shows
- 22:15Speaker 3: like they call a guy like Trey Gibson up from
- 22:17Speaker 3: the minor leagues and somebody else opens for him, like
- 22:22Speaker 3: he doesn't start the game.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Yeah, And I just think they're going to hit So whatever,
- 22:31Speaker 1: win eight out of ten or nine out of eleven.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I just I think this team is gonna going to
- 22:36Speaker 1: be in the mix.
- 22:37Speaker 3: That's me.
- 22:38Speaker 1: If you think they're going to fall off, that's that's you.
- 22:40Speaker 1: If I just don't think that's going to be the case.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So now we know at this point A J hates
- 22:45Speaker 1: the Oils for the rest of the year. I like
- 22:46Speaker 1: them for the rest of the year.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Let's see what we think about the Red Sox coming up.
- 22:50Speaker 5: I didn't say I hate you.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I didn't I hated them at all. I said that
- 22:55Speaker 4: I like a lot of the players. I actually like,
- 22:57Speaker 4: I really like a lot of the players on the
- 22:58Speaker 4: team on a personal level. For a year and a half,
- 23:00Speaker 4: a year in two months year, in what thirty five
- 23:03Speaker 4: games or whatever it is, they haven't been good.
- 23:05Speaker 5: And actually kind of started a year.
- 23:07Speaker 4: It actually kind of started a little bit the year
- 23:10Speaker 4: before at the end, and then before they lost in
- 23:12Speaker 4: the playoffs. It's almost been longer than that that it
- 23:15Speaker 4: just thinks haven't been good.
- 23:16Speaker 5: And I don't know what.
- 23:16Speaker 4: They've changed managers, they've changed coaches, they've tried to mix
- 23:19Speaker 4: up some personnel, but it always comes back to me
- 23:22Speaker 4: for the starting pitching, and they're starting pitching. You know,
- 23:24Speaker 4: Rogers was good, but now this year he's kind of
- 23:27Speaker 4: been good, right, Radish's uh right, I mean, Jane Boss
- 23:32Speaker 4: is up and down right, And I don't know, I
- 23:34Speaker 4: just I don't know where they find eight wins in
- 23:36Speaker 4: a row.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Did you guys see this from the Kentucky Derby over
- 23:41Speaker 1: the weekend? Elmer Rodriguez has not won, but two cousins
- 23:45Speaker 1: that were the jockeys for the top two horses, and
- 23:47Speaker 1: he was in tears and saying how he was more
- 23:49Speaker 1: nervous Elmer was for this than he was for his
- 23:52Speaker 1: Major league debut. Incredible age, not just one winning, but
- 23:56Speaker 1: then the second one. That these are two brothers and
- 23:58Speaker 1: they're his cousins taking one too, and the biggest freaking
- 24:01Speaker 1: race on the planet.
- 24:03Speaker 5: That's awesome. Good for him, good for his family.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Congratulations also to the woman trainer that was the first
- 24:09Speaker 4: woman ever to train the Kentucky Derby winner.
- 24:11Speaker 5: So it was cool.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Sadly I didn't get to watch it because we were
- 24:15Speaker 4: deep in our pregame prep in Detroit, but I heard
- 24:17Speaker 4: all about it and apparently the long shot came from
- 24:19Speaker 4: way behind on the outside. And the video of the
- 24:22Speaker 4: trainer going crazy with their friend that was couldn't believe
- 24:25Speaker 4: what was happening next to her. If you haven't seen it,
- 24:27Speaker 4: is absolutely epic.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I haven't seen it. I want to see it. Horse
- 24:32Speaker 3: racing is horse race. The Kentucky Derby is something that
- 24:36Speaker 3: is always going to associate me with playing baseball, because
- 24:40Speaker 3: dudes would have we'd have a Kentucky Derby pool or whatever,
- 24:44Speaker 3: and guys would want to trade there, pay other guys
- 24:47Speaker 3: for the horse that they picked, and then the race
- 24:50Speaker 3: was coming and it was super close to the start
- 24:52Speaker 3: of the game and everyone yelling at the TV. So
- 24:56Speaker 3: for Elma Rodriguez to be there and seeing his family
- 24:59Speaker 3: on his horses, I can't imagine I would have been
- 25:02Speaker 3: hyped for.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Him, right, I mean, I'd be sitting there just rooting
- 25:07Speaker 1: for whatever he's got.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Fam wise, that's really cool.
- 25:12Speaker 3: It feels like insider trading.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Breaking news here on FT one of the best in
- 25:23Speaker 1: the sport. Derek Skougel back to back side, young winner
- 25:26Speaker 1: going down needing some surgery. Will Carol, our injury expert
- 25:29Speaker 1: and the star of Injury Territory joining us right now
- 25:32Speaker 1: to discuss it. Well, what can you tell us about
- 25:34Speaker 1: this surgery to remove the loose bodies? This the same
- 25:37Speaker 1: one that Edwin Diaz just got.
- 25:39Speaker 9: Yeah, that's exactly it's Scott.
- 25:42Speaker 5: It's loose bodies.
- 25:43Speaker 9: We used to call them bone chips, but now that
- 25:46Speaker 9: we know a little bit more about them. Sometimes they
- 25:49Speaker 9: just occur inside a structure. That could be a ligament,
- 25:52Speaker 9: that could be a tendon, it could be something breaking off.
- 25:57Speaker 9: But you go in there, you pull them out, you
- 26:00Speaker 9: make sure nothing else is clean. You try to see
- 26:03Speaker 9: if there's something like a bone spur that broke off,
- 26:07Speaker 9: whether it was the elecron process, which is the end
- 26:11Speaker 9: of the elbow slamming together. So a really tough one there,
- 26:16Speaker 9: and one where you know it's a simple surgery, but
- 26:21Speaker 9: you have to realize that the bone chips are not
- 26:24Speaker 9: the problem. They're the sign of a previous problem.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Are they able to diagnose that when they get in
- 26:30Speaker 3: there what the sign of the previous problem was.
- 26:34Speaker 9: Yeah, the surgeons have gotten really good at this being
- 26:38Speaker 9: able to see what it is. You can see where
- 26:40Speaker 9: a bone spur has broken off. You can usually with
- 26:43Speaker 9: those chips kind of forensically take a look at it.
- 26:47Speaker 9: You'll take a look at the end of the process,
- 26:49Speaker 9: see whether the bones are slamming together, whether those are
- 26:53Speaker 9: those loose bodies are in there. The fact that they're
- 26:56Speaker 9: calling them loose bodies kind of makes it sound like
- 26:58Speaker 9: they're a floater and they may know this that it's
- 27:01Speaker 9: not embedded within one of the structures like a ligament
- 27:04Speaker 9: or attendant, so that might be a little bit telling.
- 27:08Speaker 3: And what they're saying timetable, What is a normal timetable
- 27:12Speaker 3: before return for a picture and with this injury, yeah.
- 27:16Speaker 9: This is significantly changed and it kind of depends on
- 27:18Speaker 9: what they find when they're in there. It used to
- 27:20Speaker 9: be they would just remove the bodies and put them
- 27:22Speaker 9: right back in there once the inflammation was down. I
- 27:23Speaker 9: can remember Johan Santana came back and just shy of
- 27:28Speaker 9: fifteen days and so it's possible to come back, but
- 27:33Speaker 9: is it the smartest thing to do, especially for a.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Guy like Scobel.
- 27:36Speaker 9: We saw him shake out his arm last week and
- 27:39Speaker 9: this has to be.
- 27:43Speaker 3: The signal from that. Now he stayed in.
- 27:45Speaker 9: He struck out the side, so he obviously still had
- 27:47Speaker 9: the capability, but he was feeling it. If you think
- 27:50Speaker 9: about Hunter Green, he was saying it felt like he
- 27:53Speaker 9: was being stabbed every time he extended his arm.
- 27:57Speaker 2: That can't be fun.
- 27:58Speaker 9: We've seen it with Diaz and now with schoobl This
- 28:00Speaker 9: is something that we're catching more and more often. I
- 28:03Speaker 9: was just saying on an injury territory that it seems
- 28:07Speaker 9: that we're catching these things earlier. We've seen less Tommy
- 28:11Speaker 9: John surgeries this year, but we've seen virtually the same
- 28:15Speaker 9: number fifty four to fifty two if you look at
- 28:18Speaker 9: where we were starting May first compared year over year.
- 28:22Speaker 9: So maybe we're just catching these things earlier. Maybe we're
- 28:25Speaker 9: actually getting better at missing two months rather than twelve.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Thoughts on, you know, the Tiger's getting hit with injuries lately.
- 28:32Speaker 1: But also just to throw the conspiracy theory out there,
- 28:36Speaker 1: because you know it's going to happen. Fans are going
- 28:38Speaker 1: to go, oh, Edwin Diaz and Terrek Scoogle both pitched
- 28:41Speaker 1: in the World Baseball Classic.
- 28:44Speaker 9: Yeah, and you know, let's go one further and Cal
- 28:48Speaker 9: Rawly has been down this weekend with what seems to
- 28:52Speaker 9: be an oblique they've said side soreness now rather than
- 28:56Speaker 9: general sort of. I don't think there's any evidence of that.
- 28:58Speaker 9: I mean, Schooble's been healthy up to this point. He
- 29:02Speaker 9: didn't have this problem, showed absolutely no signs, and he's
- 29:05Speaker 9: been very very good this year, both at the Classic
- 29:10Speaker 9: and since Diaz not a problem he's ever had previously.
- 29:15Speaker 9: He had he had a previous elbow issue back in
- 29:18Speaker 9: twenty nineteen. But I don't think we can connect twenty
- 29:22Speaker 9: nineteen twenty twenty six. I think this is something that
- 29:25Speaker 9: just occurred. I think with Diaz especially, and thinking about
- 29:29Speaker 9: this would be Schooble as well because the insurance issue.
- 29:33Speaker 9: But Diaz had a physical when he came in with
- 29:35Speaker 9: the Dodgers and did not have that problem. You would
- 29:38Speaker 9: assume when Scooble had his insurance physical, there is no
- 29:41Speaker 9: way they would have let him even pitch that one
- 29:43Speaker 9: game if they saw a problem with his elbow.
- 29:46Speaker 3: So I think this is something new.
- 29:49Speaker 9: I think this is something that happens, and I think
- 29:53Speaker 9: we're seeing it more because the doctors and the athletic
- 29:57Speaker 9: trainers and the rest of the medical staff have gotten
- 29:59Speaker 9: better at diagnosed this. But I think when we saw
- 30:02Speaker 9: him shake that arm out last time out, that was
- 30:04Speaker 9: that was the first signal.
- 30:06Speaker 5: There's no WBC. Please let's not do that.
- 30:09Speaker 2: I'm not I'm just saying that Goble.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Pitched one Goble pitch one time.
- 30:13Speaker 4: He threw like what four innings would have been the
- 30:15Speaker 4: same as if he was pitching in.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Lakeland on the back. I mean, come on, like, let's not.
- 30:20Speaker 4: Let's not make it against it was against Great Britain. Yeah, please,
- 30:24Speaker 4: let's just not because here's the problem. If we say that,
- 30:26Speaker 4: then people will say, oh, look they're you know, doing
- 30:29Speaker 4: this or doing that. So let's please let's not even
- 30:32Speaker 4: go there.
- 30:32Speaker 1: But I bring it up because people bring it up
- 30:34Speaker 1: on social media because you can say whatever you want there,
- 30:37Speaker 1: and then we're on here to bring on people that
- 30:39Speaker 1: know what they're talking about, like Will Will.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 30:41Speaker 1: We're gonna bring the other crowd back and close out
- 30:44Speaker 1: the show. But thanks for the quick bat phone call.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Appreciate you, and we'll see on Injury Territory for more
- 30:48Speaker 1: on this.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Thanks a lot.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Scott Kevin McGonagall Rookie of the Month in April. Good
- 30:55Speaker 1: at ball so far in his career. Cody Stavenhagen posted
- 30:59Speaker 1: this yesterday with runners in scoring position. He's eleven for
- 31:03Speaker 1: twenty four or five walks, one strikeout. I mean that's
- 31:06Speaker 1: kind of the dream right there. Aj you get patting average,
- 31:09Speaker 1: you get slug you get on base, and you get
- 31:12Speaker 1: contact in the key spots.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Yeah, listen, this guy is good man. I watched this
- 31:17Speaker 4: I take VP and I watched him play on Saturday.
- 31:20Speaker 4: He's gonna be good. He's not gonna win the re
- 31:22Speaker 4: Rookie of the Year Jim Bowden. Sorry, that's Murk Commi's
- 31:24Speaker 4: but uh, he's going to be a really nice player.
- 31:27Speaker 4: And by the way, Cody Cody hung out on Saturday
- 31:31Speaker 4: the whole time in the Rangers dugout. Is he banned
- 31:34Speaker 4: from the Tigers dugout. We're gonna have to ask Cody
- 31:36Speaker 4: next time we have him on because he would spend
- 31:38Speaker 4: more time with the Rangers than he did with the Tigers.
- 31:40Speaker 5: And I was kind of confused, you know.
- 31:42Speaker 4: I was talking to Jared Sandler. We were talking him soccer,
- 31:44Speaker 4: about Tottenham soccer, and every time I looked up, Cody
- 31:47Speaker 4: was on the Tigers, not on the Tigers side.
- 31:49Speaker 5: He was on the Rangers side. I was kind of
- 31:51Speaker 5: confused about it.
- 31:53Speaker 3: He was learning learning about the Rangers. Can you teach
- 31:57Speaker 3: something This is a much longer segment. Can Can you
- 32:00Speaker 3: teach somebody to hit like Kevin McGonagall. You watched him live,
- 32:04Speaker 3: I've watched plenty of games. Do you think you can
- 32:06Speaker 3: teach that because nobody's teaching it right now. Everybody's teaching
- 32:11Speaker 3: you know, turn and burn launch. He swings like that,
- 32:15Speaker 3: though he does swing like he's got a lot of
- 32:16Speaker 3: monement in that swing. He's got a lot of movement.
- 32:19Speaker 4: There's a bigger move than I thought then I remember
- 32:22Speaker 4: seeing him in But he gets the barrel to the ball,
- 32:25Speaker 4: you know what he also does. Yes, he has a
- 32:27Speaker 4: lot of walks, but he does swing early a lot,
- 32:30Speaker 4: and that's where the strikeouts go down. So I don't know.
- 32:34Speaker 4: He's a good player there he is right there, he's
- 32:36Speaker 4: a good player. It's gonna be really good play shortstod
- 32:39Speaker 4: nice too.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Rookie of the Year, did Jeff.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Did you see this one? Sneak up over the weekend?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Aj Louis Torrence, who's one of the better backup catchers
- 32:50Speaker 1: in the sport. Two years, eleven and a half million
- 32:52Speaker 1: bucks on an extension. He had switched agents somewhat recently.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Clearly he wanted to do something and not hit free agency.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Two million incentives and no options. So he gets a
- 33:02Speaker 1: couple of years for some pretty good, pretty good money.
- 33:05Speaker 1: That's probably the market rate for somebody like him in
- 33:09Speaker 1: free agency.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Good for him, Yeah, he likes where he's at. Guaranteed money,
- 33:14Speaker 4: why not take it? If I was him, I would
- 33:15Speaker 4: have taken this and ran to the bank. Too good
- 33:18Speaker 4: for Louise Torrance. He's not yeah, I mean he's not
- 33:22Speaker 4: a starting catcher. The fact that he's getting essentially without
- 33:26Speaker 4: going on the free agent market what Victor Carratini got
- 33:30Speaker 4: when he got a two year deal. I think he
- 33:32Speaker 4: was two years twelve. I think Higgy got a little
- 33:35Speaker 4: bit more than that. Like good for Luis Torrenz and
- 33:40Speaker 4: good for the fact that a guy that was a
- 33:42Speaker 4: Rule five pick out of the Yankees organization and kind
- 33:47Speaker 4: of bounced around how to re establish himself has now
- 33:49Speaker 4: found a spot in New York.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I'll always remember this line from Pete Alonzo two years ago.
- 33:55Speaker 1: We're talking to him in spring training. He's on this
- 33:57Speaker 1: show and we're like, give us a guy who's who
- 34:00Speaker 1: getting lit this year, who's gonna have a breakout, And
- 34:02Speaker 1: he's like, weishe to Reds And I will say he
- 34:06Speaker 1: was pretty good that year, He's been pretty good since.
- 34:09Speaker 1: He was just like, he's made some changes and this
- 34:10Speaker 1: guy can swing the bat. And Pete was right. It
- 34:13Speaker 1: was such a Pete answer aja for him to go
- 34:16Speaker 1: with the backup catcher.
- 34:18Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, someone who, without Alvarez getting hurt, might have
- 34:21Speaker 4: been never gotten on the field, but there is not
- 34:23Speaker 4: good for him. Man, take listen. As a backup guy,
- 34:25Speaker 4: you take any deal you can get. If they want
- 34:27Speaker 4: to offer you a two year guaranteed contract, you take.
- 34:29Speaker 3: In run exactly. I always asked for to your extensions, like, hey,
- 34:35Speaker 3: don't let me get back to minor league free agency.
- 34:37Speaker 3: You can lock me up now.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Well it worked for him, I mean, I think he looked.
- 34:44Speaker 1: My guess is that his party kind of pushed this,
- 34:46Speaker 1: because when you see a switch like that, it usually
- 34:49Speaker 1: means maybe one group wants you to get the free
- 34:51Speaker 1: agency one doesn't, or maybe you're going over numbers and
- 34:54Speaker 1: you're not on the same page, any of that. But
- 34:57Speaker 1: he clearly figured it out now and got himself all
- 35:00Speaker 1: tied up. He also probably has an idea of how
- 35:03Speaker 1: the off season going to look. I don't know if
- 35:05Speaker 1: teams are going to be super focused on the few
- 35:07Speaker 1: weeks of free agency. They have to sign a backup catcher.
- 35:10Speaker 1: So he might have been chilling for a long time
- 35:13Speaker 1: since the lockout's going to take into probably at least,
- 35:16Speaker 1: you know, February March range.
- 35:17Speaker 3: So we could've been fired. When you've been fired and
- 35:20Speaker 3: you have a chance to lock anything up it's you
- 35:24Speaker 3: go after it. So maybe they got him for less
- 35:26Speaker 3: than market value. But to me, I love this for
- 35:29Speaker 3: him and I love the value. He's hitting one eighty
- 35:31Speaker 3: this year. He could easily be fired from tomorrow if
- 35:34Speaker 3: they find another catchman.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Good point.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Let's say, better than box scores, we're going to mostly
- 35:49Speaker 1: hit Midwest teams. We're going to start with the Chicago
- 35:51Speaker 1: White Sox winning a series over the weekend and Murakami
- 35:55Speaker 1: continues to smash pitches a j How impressed are you
- 36:00Speaker 1: with him? I mean, this has got to be fun
- 36:01Speaker 1: for you man. I mean, they might not make the
- 36:03Speaker 1: playoffs this year, but they're hovering around the five hundred
- 36:05Speaker 1: marks so far into the season. During the Foul Territory era,
- 36:10Speaker 1: the White Sox have been the worst team in baseball.
- 36:14Speaker 5: The Rock Easel.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Rock Easel take that right behind just Scott after this year,
- 36:18Speaker 4: and Bill might take that over for you. Listen to
- 36:23Speaker 4: White Sox. Not only did they win too out of
- 36:24Speaker 4: three in San Diego, they probably should have swept him.
- 36:26Speaker 5: If you watch the.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Game yesterday, they had a lot of chances and swinging
- 36:29Speaker 4: bun from Bogie from Bogerts is the reason that the
- 36:32Speaker 4: Patres took the lead so h and won.
- 36:35Speaker 5: That last came in the eighth inning. Then Mason Miller
- 36:37Speaker 5: came in and struck out the world. But White Sox,
- 36:40Speaker 5: the White Sox have some hope.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I mean, listen, they get Teal back Montgomery and Murkami
- 36:45Speaker 4: of the you Know or Not. They're almost Judge and
- 36:48Speaker 4: Rice esque with their home runs. Not quite that level,
- 36:51Speaker 4: but they're getting there. The pitching has been better, Dave
- 36:54Speaker 4: led by Davis Martin who's pitching to night Sean Berg,
- 36:56Speaker 4: has been really good. The bullpen, I think, has been
- 36:58Speaker 4: all right. Yeah, the White Sox are looking up. They're
- 37:01Speaker 4: trending up.
- 37:02Speaker 5: They're not as bad as you guys all want.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Them to be. Let's pump the brakes. There's no fans.
- 37:09Speaker 3: That's why Luis Robert wasn't there. It's cold. It's not
- 37:13Speaker 3: the Cubs. It's no. I mean, there's some cool stories,
- 37:18Speaker 3: but okay, you watch them every single day. Do you
- 37:22Speaker 3: feel like they're at bats are getting better or do
- 37:25Speaker 3: you think that the or do you think that the
- 37:28Speaker 3: fact that more comedy and oh, I guess it's right
- 37:32Speaker 3: up there, more commy calls in Montgomery. They have twenty
- 37:36Speaker 3: two homers. Combined the two of them, like, do you
- 37:39Speaker 3: think they're at bats are good? Or are you're just
- 37:41Speaker 3: waiting around for somebody to hit a homer? And is
- 37:43Speaker 3: that sustainable with the fact that their pitching staff is
- 37:46Speaker 3: going to give up a lot of runs as this
- 37:49Speaker 3: season goes on.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I mean, I think that what they're doing is sustainable.
- 37:53Speaker 4: But every team relies on home runs. Now you're acting
- 37:56Speaker 4: like this isn't a big thing. The teams hit the
- 37:58Speaker 4: home runs and the teams feels like it's more.
- 38:00Speaker 3: With a White Sox. It feels like it's very three
- 38:03Speaker 3: true outcomes. And maybe it's just because I only tune
- 38:07Speaker 3: in for the more comedy or Colson Montgomery at bats,
- 38:09Speaker 3: because who else am I gonna tune in for?
- 38:12Speaker 4: You know, I mean my draft? Is my drows doing
- 38:14Speaker 4: all right? I mean Vargas is a drawn bass guy, right?
- 38:18Speaker 4: I mean, you know, Acunya has been awful, Kiro has
- 38:21Speaker 4: been awful. That's why Romo is getting to play a
- 38:23Speaker 4: lot more. I mean, Luis Akunya. If you watched as
- 38:26Speaker 4: a bat of Mason Miller lost yesterday, he swung at
- 38:28Speaker 4: a ball that almost hit Craig Stammon in the foot
- 38:31Speaker 4: on the last pitch of the game.
- 38:32Speaker 5: It was that bad of a slider that he swung at.
- 38:34Speaker 3: So, uh, you.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Know, it's just they still have some holes and eventually
- 38:39Speaker 4: he's still gonna go back to this. If the White
- 38:41Speaker 4: Socks are ever gonna get back into competition, they're gonna
- 38:44Speaker 4: have spend money, and they're gonna have spend money on
- 38:45Speaker 4: the right players. But they do have at least at
- 38:48Speaker 4: least they have some pieces now on the chessboard, right
- 38:51Speaker 4: and all the people saying they're gonna you know, trademark comedy, Now, no,
- 38:54Speaker 4: you don't, you don't trade mark commedy. Know, he's something
- 38:57Speaker 4: that people actually look forward to seeing. And you keep
- 38:59Speaker 4: those guys around. He sells tickets. Colson Montgomery is going
- 39:03Speaker 4: to be there for a bit. But I think I
- 39:05Speaker 4: asked you this the other day, like is there a
- 39:08Speaker 4: piece right now on this team that is gonna get
- 39:12Speaker 4: MVP votes for a season that will help this team
- 39:16Speaker 4: make the playoffs?
- 39:17Speaker 3: Eventually? You follow what I'm saying, like, it's Coolson Montgomery,
- 39:21Speaker 3: that type of star. Is that type of star in
- 39:24Speaker 3: their organization? Because if it's not, then is this just
- 39:27Speaker 3: all fools? Gold? Are we just winning? Are we winning?
- 39:30Speaker 3: More games, like they win seventy games this year. I mean,
- 39:33Speaker 3: they're gonna have a parade that's gonna be like a
- 39:35Speaker 3: little parade because Jerry's not gonn want to spend a
- 39:37Speaker 3: lot of money, you know what I mean.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I mean, I think I think Colson's a player that
- 39:45Speaker 4: can do that. I think Mark Comi is a player
- 39:47Speaker 4: that's gonna get him. If h'its forty five to fifty
- 39:49Speaker 4: home runs, he's going to get some votes. And I
- 39:53Speaker 4: think Colson Montgomery obviously is proven if he stays his shortstop.
- 39:56Speaker 4: They'd like to for some reason, they don't like to
- 39:58Speaker 4: play him at shortstop, which you haven't figured out, because
- 40:00Speaker 4: he was decent there as a as a rookie last
- 40:03Speaker 4: year when he played short, So they'd like to throw
- 40:04Speaker 4: him at third. Let Acune you play. That's the thing
- 40:07Speaker 4: I don't understand. But yeah, I think those two definitely
- 40:10Speaker 4: are something you can build around. And when Teal comes back,
- 40:12Speaker 4: that's another one that you can that you can build around.
- 40:15Speaker 4: So there's three guys I think that that can definitely
- 40:17Speaker 4: lead you to where you want to get.
- 40:21Speaker 1: It's good start, all right, Well, maybe one day they'll
- 40:24Speaker 1: be like the pirates who are relevant so far this year.
- 40:27Speaker 1: In the first six weeks of the season, they just
- 40:29Speaker 1: swept the Reds. Impressive series and you had that game
- 40:33Speaker 1: on what Saturday where the Reds walked seven in a row,
- 40:37Speaker 1: which tied a record. That's tough to do. But you
- 40:41Speaker 1: know it started Friday. Mitch Keller shut down the Reds.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Easy win for them there, and then they blew him
- 40:46Speaker 1: out again on Saturday. And then Sunday was tight and
- 40:49Speaker 1: they're showing how they went can win a tight game
- 40:51Speaker 1: like this. Ashcraft was really strong and he kept up
- 40:54Speaker 1: with Chase Burns the whole time. And then you had
- 40:56Speaker 1: Connor Griffin helped to create a little offense with Cruise
- 40:59Speaker 1: knocking him home. I mean, that's a really solid series
- 41:03Speaker 1: aj for a Pirates team that was going up against
- 41:06Speaker 1: a very hot Reds team.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:09Speaker 4: Did you see Connor Griffi's first fourhead games. All the
- 41:12Speaker 4: hits were like one hundred and eight miles an hour.
- 41:13Speaker 4: They're all rockets everywhere. So he's starting to figure it out.
- 41:17Speaker 4: I mean, he's you know, he just turned twenty. He's
- 41:19Speaker 4: starting to get there. But the Reds swept the Pirates,
- 41:22Speaker 4: The Cardinals sweep the Pirates, or you know, the Pirate
- 41:25Speaker 4: sweep the Reds, the Cardinal sweep it. It's like the
- 41:27Speaker 4: Cubs can't lose the Cubs like sixteen and three in
- 41:29Speaker 4: their last nineteen. You know, Central was stronger than I
- 41:32Speaker 4: think we thought they were going.
- 41:33Speaker 5: To be, and it's good. It's good to see Central
- 41:36Speaker 5: standing up for each other.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't just them too, I mean the Cubs
- 41:44Speaker 1: swept the Diamondbacks Kratz. The Cardinals took two out of
- 41:47Speaker 1: three against the Dodgers.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Cubs, by the.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Way, I think it's eleven in a row now at
- 41:52Speaker 1: home for them in a row, and then they're about
- 41:54Speaker 1: to take on the Reds in a four gamer this week.
- 41:57Speaker 1: And for the Cardinals, you're catching the dot when they're
- 42:01Speaker 1: slumping at the plate, But who cares. I mean, you're
- 42:03Speaker 1: facing the Dodgers. They've got most of their stars intact
- 42:06Speaker 1: playing and they were able to string a couple wins
- 42:09Speaker 1: together before they ran into Cy young contender Justin Robleski
- 42:13Speaker 1: on Sunday, who seems to be shutting everyone down. But
- 42:15Speaker 1: a strong series for them, a strong start for them
- 42:17Speaker 1: on Friday when you know they had the seven to
- 42:21Speaker 1: two win and Jordan Walker still I know he slowed
- 42:24Speaker 1: down a little bit, but still, I mean, he's got
- 42:25Speaker 1: what ten homers already through the first not even quarter
- 42:29Speaker 1: of the season, yet.
- 42:30Speaker 3: He had four hits the other day. The fact that,
- 42:33Speaker 3: I mean, the Cardinals are twenty and fourteen, like there's
- 42:36Speaker 3: no I don't care if you think they're good or not.
- 42:39Speaker 3: They're winning games, and they're winning games with a pitching
- 42:43Speaker 3: staff a dozen strike guys out. They're winning games with
- 42:47Speaker 3: a lineup that you know what, has been there for
- 42:50Speaker 3: a minute with the Cardinals. But now they're all getting
- 42:54Speaker 3: consistent at bets. So which came first, the chicken or
- 42:56Speaker 3: the egg? The fact that now they're not all bouncing
- 42:59Speaker 3: around three different positions or getting sent down to Triple A.
- 43:03Speaker 3: It's just, hey, you know what you get to learn
- 43:05Speaker 3: in the big leagues, Which goes back to the whole
- 43:07Speaker 3: Connor Griffin thing. The day last week and I don't
- 43:10Speaker 3: remember what day it was, he hit a I think
- 43:12Speaker 3: it was kind of a you know, a late game
- 43:15Speaker 3: meaningless home run, but Connor Griffin hit a ball to
- 43:19Speaker 3: the opposite field for a home run like four or
- 43:22Speaker 3: five rows deep in PNC, not on the Clemente wall,
- 43:26Speaker 3: but kind of left of the Clemente Wall. It was
- 43:29Speaker 3: it was a rocket, and since then, I feel like
- 43:32Speaker 3: some of his at bats have turned less into that,
- 43:35Speaker 3: Like I'm trying to hit it as hard as I
- 43:37Speaker 3: can to left field, and those were going foul, and
- 43:40Speaker 3: it seemed like it seemed like a young kid at
- 43:43Speaker 3: twenty years old who just had his birthday presence by
- 43:47Speaker 3: the bouncy house, like is making adjustments in the big leagues.
- 43:51Speaker 3: And to see a four hit game, yikes, Like it
- 43:55Speaker 3: was clear he's ready to go and he's going to
- 43:58Speaker 3: have to continue to make adjustments s, which everybody does
- 44:01Speaker 3: in the big.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Wish a couple other quick notes on the way out here.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Royals also with a much needed sweep over the weekend,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and it was Randy Johnson weekend and they just crashed it.
- 44:10Speaker 2: They crashed it and took down the Mariners.
- 44:12Speaker 4: What's wrong with the Maybe we should be asking what's
- 44:14Speaker 4: wrong with the Mariners because they aren't playing very well
- 44:16Speaker 4: at all.
- 44:17Speaker 3: I mean, but they were playing well until that series
- 44:20Speaker 3: and then the Royals. I did not have If I
- 44:22Speaker 3: would have picked the series of Who's Gonna beat Who,
- 44:24Speaker 3: in that series, it would have been the Mariners beating
- 44:26Speaker 3: the Royals. Because the Royals looked Bobo nuts.
- 44:32Speaker 10: Joe Mack is set to make his major league debut
- 44:35Speaker 10: after an uneven start to his pro career. He broke
- 44:37Speaker 10: out in twenty twenty four with twenty four home runs
- 44:40Speaker 10: and carried that into twenty twenty five, when he reached
- 44:43Speaker 10: triple A and hit twoin fifty with eighteen homers and
- 44:45Speaker 10: a four to fifty nine slugging percentage. At the plate,
- 44:48Speaker 10: Mac offers above average power from the left side, with
- 44:51Speaker 10: a compact swing in the ability to drive the ball
- 44:53Speaker 10: when he connects and do.
- 44:54Speaker 3: A lot of damage to the pull side.
- 44:56Speaker 10: Defensively, he's as steady as any catcher coming up to
- 44:59Speaker 10: the major leagues right now. Mac is an above average
- 45:02Speaker 10: receiver with a strong arm, and throughout thirty two percent
- 45:05Speaker 10: of base dealers last season and was at twenty nine
- 45:07Speaker 10: percent leading up to his call up this year. It's
- 45:09Speaker 10: a well rounded profile as he gets ready for his
- 45:11Speaker 10: first opportunity in the major leagues.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:15Speaker 1: So that's Jacob Brudner, who is part of Baseball America
- 45:18Speaker 1: and is on that Hot Sheet show that we love
- 45:21Speaker 1: and we're a part of here too, So you can
- 45:22Speaker 1: see him usually most Tuesdays, but that's a good report.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I mean, aj, that's as glowing as a review as
- 45:28Speaker 1: it gets. And I imagine that the bat you hope
- 45:32Speaker 1: comes around. But when you hear the kind of talk
- 45:35Speaker 1: on his glove and the way that he's calling games,
- 45:38Speaker 1: well not calling games, the way that he's can't say
- 45:41Speaker 1: that was the mind, the way that he's handling things
- 45:44Speaker 1: behind the plate, it's it's a good sign. Augustine Ramirez
- 45:47Speaker 1: was terrible. He was the worst defensive catcher in baseball
- 45:49Speaker 1: on almost every category defense wise.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Yeah, so this is hopefully an upgrade defensively, they'll hope
- 45:57Speaker 4: Joke can hit. Congratulations to the kid. I mean, he's
- 46:00Speaker 4: got no pressure. He didn't have to call the game.
- 46:02Speaker 4: He just listens in his earpiece and puts down whatever
- 46:04Speaker 4: they say. So that's nice, you know, you know that
- 46:06Speaker 4: was always a big thing. Are they ready to call
- 46:08Speaker 4: a game? But if he can throw and he can
- 46:09Speaker 4: catch the ball, it'd be a nice upgrade. If he
- 46:11Speaker 4: swings about a little bit awesome, But it's always awesome
- 46:14Speaker 4: when you gets your first call up and your first
- 46:15Speaker 4: opportunity to play at the major league level. And we'll
- 46:18Speaker 4: see how it goes for mister Mac. But Hey know, goshroud,
- 46:21Speaker 4: so many times you hear this catcher is going to
- 46:23Speaker 4: be the next this, or this catcher is going to
- 46:24Speaker 4: be the next this and just doesn't work out.
- 46:27Speaker 5: Catching is really hard to evaluate.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Catching is definitely always what have you done for me lately?
- 46:34Speaker 3: Like you have to come up and always produce. You
- 46:38Speaker 3: always have to be a stalwart behind the plate. You
- 46:41Speaker 3: can't let balls get by you. Like the fact that
- 46:43Speaker 3: in the receiving numbers, everyone's like, oh, pass balls are
- 46:46Speaker 3: totally fine. Never have I ever said there was a
- 46:49Speaker 3: pass ball that was like, it's okay, I was really
- 46:52Speaker 3: ripping some strikes. Joe Mack from my assistant coach, My
- 46:56Speaker 3: assistant coach and in the high school at the high
- 46:58Speaker 3: school that I coach at, worked with him this offseason,
- 47:02Speaker 3: and he said, great worker. He really gets it in
- 47:05Speaker 3: the sense that like he's he's above average defensively from
- 47:09Speaker 3: the other big league catchers that he's worked with. So
- 47:13Speaker 3: that's that's a huge upgrade for a pitching staff that
- 47:16Speaker 3: I've seen some balls just constantly get by, not blocked,
- 47:20Speaker 3: and so they've upgraded him.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to see if you guys match my
- 47:27Speaker 1: rage on this one. Chase Dolander is one of the
- 47:30Speaker 1: best pitching prospects in baseball. For a while, it was
- 47:32Speaker 1: going to be a fascinating case to see how someone
- 47:34Speaker 1: like that in fair course field with this kind of stuff,
- 47:37Speaker 1: And it took a little bit of time, not that
- 47:39Speaker 1: much time. And then this year you just see him
- 47:41Speaker 1: shoving all of a sudden, you know, he's on a
- 47:44Speaker 1: roll here. I know he did this. He had one
- 47:46Speaker 1: one inning appearance or whatever, but the rest of them
- 47:49Speaker 1: he's been starting. They've bet a short leash on him, guys.
- 47:52Speaker 1: But like the last three starts five and a third, six,
- 47:55Speaker 1: seven innings, whatever. He ended up going five and a
- 47:57Speaker 1: third in this one, six earned runs against the Braves,
- 48:00Speaker 1: one of the better offenses in baseball. Originally, aj he
- 48:04Speaker 1: was I think slidded as the starter because I looked
- 48:07Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, I'm going to watch a
- 48:09Speaker 1: little Braves Rockies, and then I see Bernardino starting as
- 48:12Speaker 1: the opener. I was like, oh, what happened to Dolander?
- 48:14Speaker 1: And they're like, oh, they're just going to use them.
- 48:15Speaker 1: They're just going to do their opener and then they're
- 48:17Speaker 1: going to bring in Dolander. I'm like, are you fucking
- 48:19Speaker 1: kidding me. They're doing this with.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Him working to Baseball twenty twenty six. They don't want
- 48:25Speaker 4: him to get hurt in that first inning. They don't
- 48:26Speaker 4: want them to have to face the line up that
- 48:28Speaker 4: third time. I mean, he's been pitching great. Let this
- 48:30Speaker 4: guy roll. Let this guy roll. What are they protecting
- 48:33Speaker 4: him from at this point, He's been up long enough,
- 48:35Speaker 4: he's been in the minor leagues long enough.
- 48:36Speaker 5: Let this guy eat. I don't get this. This is
- 48:39Speaker 5: trying to be too cute.
- 48:39Speaker 4: And then he got whacked around, and then people like
- 48:42Speaker 4: us are going to say, oh, it's because he didn't
- 48:44Speaker 4: get to start the game.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Yes, it's because he didn't get to start the game.
- 48:47Speaker 4: And we've talked about it with guys who have on
- 48:49Speaker 4: this show that have had openers for him, and they're like,
- 48:52Speaker 4: it's a different routine. You warm up alongside, you're long
- 48:55Speaker 4: tossing the next to the guy. I'm the starting pitcher.
- 48:58Speaker 4: Let me start the game now. If there's a if
- 49:01Speaker 4: there's a reason, a reason, a guy's struggling, and you
- 49:05Speaker 4: know they're gonna do this. It looks like the Brian
- 49:06Speaker 4: Bayo and in the Red Sox. But I just don't
- 49:10Speaker 4: understand it. If the guy is not good enough to
- 49:12Speaker 4: start the first inning, then why are we bringing him
- 49:15Speaker 4: in the second inning. If he's good enough to be
- 49:16Speaker 4: a starting pitcher thirty times a year, let him pitch
- 49:19Speaker 4: the first inning, especially if they're young, and let him
- 49:20Speaker 4: figure it out. But instead we want to just oh no,
- 49:23Speaker 4: well we'll have someone cover that so he doesn't have
- 49:26Speaker 4: to face him three times, Like come on, like we
- 49:29Speaker 4: need to be better in this. I'm sorry, and that's
- 49:30Speaker 4: my old school mentality and whatever, Yeah.
- 49:37Speaker 3: Helicopter parent, Well we'll we'll try to save him. There's
- 49:40Speaker 3: there's definitely like you're not going anywhere, Rockies. Groom him
- 49:46Speaker 3: to be your guy, or if you don't think he's
- 49:49Speaker 3: gonna be your guy, give it to somebody else. Maybe
- 49:53Speaker 3: he does like because because the matchup is more favorable
- 49:57Speaker 3: in the second inning. I just I feel like it's
- 50:01Speaker 3: setting yourself up for failure in a long run. Maybe
- 50:04Speaker 3: not in that game, but in the.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Long Let's start with Okamoto, dude, I really like his swing.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Aj I'm a big Okamoto fan. I don't consider players
- 50:28Speaker 1: like that a rookie. Actually, Jim Bowden the king of that.
- 50:31Speaker 1: He campaigns every year, saying that the players that come
- 50:33Speaker 1: over from Japan should not be treated as rookies just
- 50:36Speaker 1: because it's their first year in the big whatever. That's
- 50:39Speaker 1: not my argument. But he looks very seasoned. I know
- 50:42Speaker 1: he had a little bit of a slow point, like
- 50:44Speaker 1: first started out hot, then slowed down. Now I think
- 50:47Speaker 1: it's five homers in the last four games. You had
- 50:49Speaker 1: a homer, and every game of this series against the Twins,
- 50:52Speaker 1: who have the worst bullpen in baseball. But anyway, the
- 50:55Speaker 1: other night he just missed his third of the night,
- 50:57Speaker 1: went like three eighty two. And then the quote after
- 50:59Speaker 1: the game was, I didn't have my pregame case Adea today.
- 51:03Speaker 1: I think if I'd had that, it would have been
- 51:05Speaker 1: a home run. Next day homer, And he said he
- 51:08Speaker 1: had the case Adia. So he's loving the dillas.
- 51:12Speaker 5: Is that all it takes is some case ofdillas hit homers.
- 51:16Speaker 2: He's superstitious.
- 51:19Speaker 3: It's a little stitious, but you hit homers. I mean,
- 51:21Speaker 3: if the case of d is the thing, get that,
- 51:24Speaker 3: get that each your stang casadilla.
- 51:28Speaker 2: He had one what was it on Saturday?
- 51:30Speaker 1: Because I was watching I watched almost the whole Blue
- 51:32Speaker 1: Jays Twins game on Saturday, because I put some some
- 51:35Speaker 1: pretty good money down on that one on a live bet.
- 51:37Speaker 1: I was with a buddy and I was like, it's
- 51:39Speaker 1: when you sound really cool. I'm like, yo, the Twins
- 51:41Speaker 1: Bullpen's really bad. It was like four to two. I
- 51:43Speaker 1: was like, let's let's hit it, and we did, and
- 51:45Speaker 1: Okamoto hit a Moor comedy shot. It was like four
- 51:48Speaker 1: thirty to center. Just he's got some crazy pop tree
- 51:52Speaker 1: trunk legs. I really liked the player, so I think
- 51:54Speaker 1: Blue Jays fans are gonna like him too. Uh, let's
- 51:57Speaker 1: finish with know we have two more things one minute
- 52:00Speaker 1: each year. Did you see this clever marketing tactic from
- 52:03Speaker 1: the Brewers. They have a pothole filler, so they're free
- 52:08Speaker 1: filling potholes around Wisconsin and the only catch is that
- 52:13Speaker 1: they get to put their Brewer logo in those potholes.
- 52:16Speaker 1: So you're just going to see that little Brewer logo
- 52:19Speaker 1: all over Wisconsin. I think that's really cool. That's like
- 52:23Speaker 1: a good way to get back to the community, right.
- 52:25Speaker 4: Love it, love it, and it makes people aware every
- 52:27Speaker 4: time they drive their car and they're trying to dodge
- 52:29Speaker 4: the old pothole, they see the Brewers logo cool.
- 52:33Speaker 1: My thing is, I mean, probably almost everyone's been through
- 52:36Speaker 1: a pothole, especially if you're in the Northeast or in
- 52:38Speaker 1: the Midwest and you know somewhere where it snows, you
- 52:41Speaker 1: just get crushed. And probably everyone's been through one where
- 52:43Speaker 1: you feel like it messed up your car. So now
- 52:45Speaker 1: like there's someone's going to go over that and be
- 52:47Speaker 1: like you saved me today. Thank you, Milwaukee, You're the best.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Thank you Brewers.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Let's finishest in our community. One of the best teams
- 52:55Speaker 3: I ever played for in the community of Milwaukee.
- 53:01Speaker 1: I think they get it on that front. They've always
- 53:03Speaker 1: been sharp on that front to be able to connect
- 53:05Speaker 1: with fans. Last one before you can all watch Dodgers Territory,
- 53:08Speaker 1: which is starting in seconds, and we'll redirect you there
- 53:11Speaker 1: if you'd like to watch it. Just a note from
- 53:14Speaker 1: your buddy aj in friend of ours don Orsilo, who said,
- 53:18Speaker 1: crush to learn of the news of John Sterling's passing.
- 53:20Speaker 2: And I think this.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Is a good way to hit home for how it
- 53:24Speaker 1: doesn't just change lives in baseball fans, it can change careers.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Don Arcilo is one of them, he said, single most
- 53:29Speaker 1: responsible person for my cadence and delivery today as he
- 53:32Speaker 1: learned studied his rhythms while on buses Knights in the
- 53:36Speaker 1: New York Penn League. He said, my current bogue ghost
- 53:39Speaker 1: boom call is and was an ode to John Sterling.
- 53:42Speaker 4: Love you, John, one of the best. Hopefully you didn't
- 53:46Speaker 4: sink on his miniot. Yeh, haven't seen as miniot. It
- 53:49Speaker 4: holds about two hundred and forty pounds. And Don don
- 53:53Speaker 4: quit eating those cases. Dio's out there and Sandy here.
- 53:56Speaker 5: Go, buddy.
- 53:57Speaker 3: I love you.
- 53:58Speaker 5: He's one of the best. Man.
- 53:59Speaker 4: Don's one of the classy guy. He gets it and
- 54:03Speaker 4: fortunate enough to being able to not only have him
- 54:05Speaker 4: in Boston but also get to work with them a lot.
- 54:06Speaker 4: So good job done. Congratulations on being a good guy.
- 54:10Speaker 2: He's got some Sterling in him, He's got the kron.
- 54:14Speaker 3: He's got all that work.
- 54:15Speaker 2: You know, many try it, many foul Don succeeds.
- 54:20Speaker 3: Case ideas are Mexican pizzas. If anybody didn't know, just
- 54:24Speaker 3: ingredients are pretty much the same Mexican pizza.
- 54:29Speaker 2: Also, if you don't know what a case is is.
- 54:31Speaker 4: There's actually there's actually a Mexican pizza, and then there's
- 54:34Speaker 4: actually you go to Taco Bell. They have a Mexican
- 54:38Speaker 4: pizza which is delicious.
- 54:39Speaker 2: By the way, it is IDAs separate.
- 54:43Speaker 1: Mm hmm, right, okay, sure, I hope everyone learned something today.
