- 0:00Evolution of forms is the machinery for the manifestation
- 0:04of the universe. Evolution of consciousness
- 0:07provides the significance and inner direction.
- 0:12Similarly, we can look at the lower nature of Para Prakruti as
- 0:17the mechanism and Para prakruti the higher nature as the cause
- 0:21and conscious creator and upholder of the mechanism.
- 0:26We find it difficult to hold multiple standpoints at the same
- 0:29time. This is a limitation of the
- 0:32mental consciousness, which is linear in nature and attempts to
- 0:35reduce everything to either or rather than see the different
- 0:40standpoints, aspects and parts and their interrelationship and
- 0:46interaction. A simple example is the
- 0:50phenomenon of light. We see light as a unified whole,
- 0:54but if we pass it through a prism, different wavelengths get
- 0:58refracted out and we then see a range of colors representing
- 1:03those varying wavelengths. The light is 1, but it can be
- 1:08also divided into segments and appear as many from one
- 1:13standpoint. It is seen as one from another
- 1:17as an amalgamation of many. Both observations can be
- 1:21validated from their respective standpoints without conflict
- 1:25between the views. From the divine standpoint, the
- 1:29consciousness is 1 and the entire creation is 1.
- 1:34For purposes of the manifestation, the Oneness is
- 1:38refracted into multiple formations.
- 1:42In the higher nature this is represented by multiple
- 1:45individual formations of the one consciousness, the individual G
- 1:49Vatman. In the lower nature this is
- 1:53represented by multiple external forms and the consciousness that
- 1:57informs them all, that is, all creatures that together make up
- 2:02the manifested creation. For those who experience their
- 2:07lives from the ego standpoint, it looks like everything is
- 2:11fragmented, separate and distinct, when in reality it is
- 2:15still one, both in consciousness and in forms simply
- 2:21distinguished for purposes of the manifestation.
- 2:25Sri Aurogindo observes quote the lower nature, a Para Prakriti,
- 2:32is this external, objective and superficial, subjective,
- 2:36apparent nature which manifests all these minds, lives and
- 2:40bodies. The Supreme Nature, Para
- 2:43Prakriti, concealed behind it is the very nature of the Divine, a
- 2:49supreme consciousness force which manifests the multiple
- 2:53Divine as the many. These many are in themselves
- 2:57eternal selves of the Supreme in His Supreme Nature, Para
- 3:01Prakriti. Here, in relation to this world,
- 3:04they appear as the Jivatmas supporting the evolution of the
- 3:08natural existences. Sarva Bhutani in the mutable
- 3:13becoming which is the life of the Kshara, Mobile or mutable
- 3:18Purusha, the Jiva or Jivatma and the creatures Sarva Bhutani are
- 3:24not the same thing. The jivatmas really stand above
- 3:28the creation even though concerned in it the natural
- 3:32existences. Sarva Bhutani are the creatures
- 3:36of nature. Man, bird, beast, reptile are
- 3:41natural existences, but the individual self in them is not
- 3:46even for a moment characteristically man, bird,
- 3:50beast or reptile in its evolution it's the same through
- 3:55all these changes, a spiritual being that consents to the play
