- 0:03Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:07Speaker 1: I have the pleasure to be joined by Keith Adley from Fangs Up Podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Keith, what's up, man?
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome to the North Florida Sports Network.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Oh man, all is well good, brother.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I am excited to be here, man.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I've heard some great things and you know, always good to be with a fellow Trojan man, that's right, that's right man.
- 0:30Speaker 1: North Florida in town man Keith has been covering FAMU for a few years now, and he was up in Atlanta for the Celebration Bowl where FAMU brought back the HBCU National Championship 30 to 26.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It didn't.
- 0:47Speaker 1: It was starting this game.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Let's talk about the game.
- 0:49Speaker 1: The game started not the way FAMU wanted it, though did it?
- 0:52Speaker 1: 14-0 in the first quarter.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Man, what was going through your head?
- 0:59Speaker 2: What is Musa doing?
- 1:00Speaker 2: What is Musa doing, what is his offensive line doing?
- 1:04Speaker 2: And just kind of, is this a microcosm of what we've seen all season from the scene?
- 1:09Speaker 2: Like, this has been a team that they create their own adversity and they just kind of work the way back through it.
- 1:16Speaker 2: But they're going to always kind of get on your nerves at the beginning, like we've been that one child that just doesn't know how to act.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Right, they can't get it together and then you got to chastise them at halftime.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It's been that team where they've been the quintessential second half team and you really hate to say that about a team.
- 1:32Speaker 1: but they've been that.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And they are what they are.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Well, you don't want to give credit to Howard.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Howard came to play and I had a feeling that they were A lot of people.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Famu was favored in this game, big favorites coming in with the record.
- 1:45Speaker 1: But, Howard, the way they took care of Central up there, you know, was it 50 to 20?
- 1:52Speaker 2: 50 to 20 man.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And that was one of those games where, like you know, we were at the classic talking about it on the sideline and that was one of the cool parts.
- 2:00Speaker 2: They were like, hey, you heard what happened with Central and Howard.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, how did it happen?
- 2:04Speaker 2: And some of the guys were like, well, you know, supposedly a flu bug went through Central and they weren't feeling it best, whatever, whatever.
- 2:10Speaker 2: And it's like, well, whatever happened, howard executed and took advantage of it.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It really and it's completely changed it Like it was the celebration bowl that nobody expected.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But if you were like an HBC, you're purist, it's kind of the celebration bowl you wanted.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, man, this was my first experience and, honestly, I started.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I went to the first FAMU game to cover it last season and it was when Jackson, you know, I had.
- 2:38Speaker 1: My first question was like, if they're good enough, why wouldn't they want to compete in a playoff?
- 2:43Speaker 1: You know, that's my, you know compete for the championship.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I now know why.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I now know why my friend Celebration bowl is, why it's a great event, why and we talked to the SWAT commissioner, he kind of let us know too, what, what was going on with that.
- 3:02Speaker 1: You know, why would you want to go play in a tournament where you're not even allowed to host, right, because of some requirement, or then you have to pay to go far away to play in a game that's not gonna be fair, based on what you did in the regular season, you know.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So or you can go to Atlanta in a in Mercedes Benz Stadium and get the whole treatment.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You know, and I saw the put the look on the player's face before the game and I think I I have my answer right there.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just, and families host to playoff games before, so it's kind of different, it's.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's that I guess that that when you've gotten older and become that next generation and it's weird to think of yourself like that, but I'm a part of that generation that did experience playoff games at FAMU and then you go to the celebration bowl and you're like, oh, this is different, like playoff games at FAMU were fun, but the kind of see last year, the process and how the city, city of Tallahassee contributed to their credit.
- 4:06Speaker 2: They tried to help, you know, get FAMU to host the playoff game.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it didn't come to fruition, but you started to see like yo, celebration bowl was nice and definitely an event I highly suggest individuals go to.
- 4:17Speaker 1: If you haven't, if you haven't been or if you, it's definitely worth the while.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And you know, especially in nowadays, with the bowls, if you're not in the playoff in like in the FBS, you know these guys aren't really playing in the bowl game and to see what it meant to the fan bases, what it meant to the players, I fell in love with it.
- 4:43Speaker 1: As just a fan of college football, I understood it and, man, it's something to be proud of, is something to play for.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I took a step into the Howard Press Conference after the game and you could just feel the hurt in there and I love, not not I love, and I'm not trying to do that, but you could feel the magnitude of the game.
- 5:03Speaker 1: That fair to say.
- 5:05Speaker 2: No, it's definitely fair.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And, man, it's true, like I actually I had to leave early because it was just how they did some of the stuff, but you could tell, like the coaches you were waiting, and the anticipation, and I remember just standing in there as I am, a step out and step back in, and coach Simmons walks in and he's like we ready to go.
- 5:21Speaker 2: He's like, okay, well, I got to do this, like I did, like it was definitely different and to me this was the best bowl experience I've ever had.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It was my second.
- 5:29Speaker 2: We did the gasp rule of bowl when you have played UCF.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Okay, that was my wife's first ever time going to, you know, see, ucf and I just was like you can't do this by yourself because she's never been to like UF type events.
- 5:42Speaker 2: But it was just a different feel and different atmosphere.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Like it was very engaging at that bowl game, but this one it was just a lot different because of the bands, the pageantry, because of what it really meant to both fan bases and kind of the.
- 5:55Speaker 2: You know, the fact that there's a rivalry like between these two schools made it pretty sweet.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It's really cool.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And you, I saw school, I saw fans from all the schools and in both conferences me, I can swack at the game because this is kind of a celebration of HBCU football man, it's, it's just a cool event.
- 6:16Speaker 1: The vice president was in the house.
- 6:18Speaker 1: She's an alum of Howard the bands.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You got two top notch bands.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I mean that's a show in itself right there.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the battle of the bands the previous night and we we missed that.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I missed it because you know the other side of it.
- 6:31Speaker 2: It's a family event Like.
- 6:32Speaker 2: To me that was the biggest difference between that and the like.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Literally I wrote up there with family after the Friday.
- 6:39Speaker 2: When we got up there we went down the street to a restaurant to eat Saturday after the game, like it's almost a homecoming 2.0.
- 6:46Speaker 2: You have so many friends that come to town and everything and literally just running into people.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And it's the other side of meeting other people that cover HBCU athletics and that cover the sport, and it's like you're meeting this person, this person from different areas and spaces you may have shared with, but now you're meeting them in person.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And it's the other side of the genuine enjoyment of meeting each other and talking to each other and really talking about the sport.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Man and fam you man.
- 7:14Speaker 1: They were able to get it together.
- 7:16Speaker 1: We were back at the game.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Musa he's been turnover prone all year but he does.
- 7:23Speaker 1: He doesn't phase him, he just gets back and keeps slinging it.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I liked the adjustments that Coach Simmons made.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Kind of, he made some plays where I think he's been doing that a lot with, like the hit, the pitch backs, where Musa doesn't have to really read the defense much.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Once you get it, you sling it deep.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, musa is definitely one of those pre snap quarterbacks.
- 7:49Speaker 2: If you look at him, what he sees pre snap is what he tends to go with.
- 7:52Speaker 2: I've called him Jekyll and Hyde Musa at times this year because he'll have a half of a game where he's just like what are you doing?
- 8:00Speaker 2: The second half, you're like snap.
- 8:02Speaker 2: This is actually good.
- 8:03Speaker 2: This is what we saw from him.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Musa, he fumbles the ball.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It's just the season's over, so it doesn't matter if I tell you he's going to fumble the ball if you put pressure on him.
- 8:12Speaker 2: He does tend to hold the ball a little too long and he can just sometimes throw balls in places where he shouldn't.
- 8:19Speaker 2: But when Musa gets hot and when he doesn't have to think he becomes dangerous.
- 8:23Speaker 2: When it becomes fluid and he's just throwing the ball, in the moment, musa becomes the best quarterback in the swag.
- 8:29Speaker 2: In that moment Is he the most mobile quarterback?
- 8:32Speaker 2: No, but can Musa actually run?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah, he can catch two Musa's just smart about it he can catch two.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Yeah, we saw that.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That was a great play.
- 8:40Speaker 1: That was called back, unfortunately for the Rattlers, but it's also easier when you are turning the ball over, when you can turn to a defense.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Like FAMU has put together this year a special, special unit led by majors who man this guy's all over the field, man, I mean everywhere.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Isaiah, huge Isaiah, majors Number zero.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Transfer.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah, transfer.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Where'd he come from?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Art Independence Community College.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, right.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I believe he was on that hard knock season with Jermaine Johnson from Florida State.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Wow, so that's I believe he could be on there.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I may be misspeaking, but he did come up with Independence.
- 9:19Speaker 1: He shined throughout, throughout on the game.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Do you think he'll be playing at the next level?
- 9:27Speaker 2: I think so.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I think he's 6'1", 230 pounds, maybe closer to six feet, but I think because he's able to fly around the field, he's going to be a guy that at least makes a practice squad.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I think he's going to be the next uh, Marquis Bell, not necessarily, but the fact he's he's averaging about 10 tackles per game, something crazy like that and he also wants to play the year.
- 9:48Speaker 2: My opinion largely because of the amount of turnover he got.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I mean Major returns at interception for a touchdown.
- 9:54Speaker 2: He had a formal recovery in the Florida Classic, so he'll making big plays at big times, their impact plays at the right moment, and I feel like, if you are, this is he's one of those guys, and I'm not a Patriots fan, but if you're a New England Patriots fan and a Bill Belichick fan, he is a Bill Belichick type of guy who reminds you of some of those like okay, you know, Teddy type guys, Teddy Bruce guy, I think Major is that kind of guy.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I think he can.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I think he can play at the next level.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Uh, you, uh, you see Dankwa on Howard man, I mean, he's so big, he's definitely number 77, 6, 8, 300 in like 30.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Sometimes 6, 8, 3, 3, 70 from Canada.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm like my, my, my, I'm telling my, my friends about it.
- 10:41Speaker 2: My family like, how did you get the Howard?
- 10:43Speaker 2: I'm like God, no idea.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And he, literally you saw where that left side of the line there's no penetration, you're getting from there and that's part of kind of, as you mentioned, early in the game, family does go down 14 to nothing, with largely the past rush, just wasn't able to quite get to Howard's quarterback.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yet Howard does.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And they're stubborn, like one of the things about Hub Howard, their offense is just stubborn.
- 11:05Speaker 2: They're going to run the ball.
- 11:06Speaker 2: That's what they do.
- 11:08Speaker 2: And even when you're like kind of looking at the tail of the tape for the game, you're going to look and notice.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And, as you mentioned, femi's offense is imaginative.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Willie is doing flea flickers, he's doing double path.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Willie said, coming into the game in the swag and not in the swag preference pre-call, but in the post-swag championship game, hey, we're going to celebration ball, the playbook's open, whatever's in there, I'm throwing it at you.
- 11:34Speaker 2: And we're all sitting there at the bottom of the loss and center in the press conference and like, all right, willie, and you saw that like you're running double passes, you're seeing where you run a freaking reverse to Leland Willoy on a two point conversion, like just stuff that Willie just doesn't normally do.
- 11:50Speaker 2: He just pulled out of the, pulled out of his pocket.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Speaking of two point conversions, how surprised were you when Howard did not go for one after the pick six oh man, I was a little shocked, I mean going back and watching the broadcast it was like Jay Walker is like why do you go for two?
- 12:07Speaker 1: And I'm like yeah, okay, yeah, I mean I was saying that right in the right away, and then too conservative bro, I guess it was just in the heat of the moment and you don't have anything prepared.
- 12:17Speaker 2: But now, he's just too conservative, like I think it's five down the fourth quarter.
- 12:21Speaker 1: It's fourth quarter.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I was like, dude, you're going to go down, you could lose that field.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Go by one point.
- 12:26Speaker 1: You know just.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I don't think you trust this quarterback.
- 12:29Speaker 2: At that point you started to see where the point.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Williams.
- 12:32Speaker 1: He was seeing ghosts, man, the dark cloud, just seeing them just pop out of anywhere.
- 12:38Speaker 1: They held him zero touchdowns, three interceptions on the game.
- 12:42Speaker 2: He didn't get anything going Barely a hundred yards.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I mean honestly, and when I looked at the game pre pre game going into this, I really thought their success would be being able to run, really play action and then read option.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Famu is really struggled when teams have run that.
- 12:58Speaker 2: That not so much of a read option play, but it's a half back dive out of the shotgun formation where the running back runs between the guards and the center and you've seen where that's really caused problems.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Firstly, because family was a four down lineman with the two linebackers in the middle and one of the linebackers normally drops and covers, one of them blitzes.
- 13:16Speaker 2: So all of a sudden it's literally five on five.
- 13:19Speaker 2: But one of those five is 220 pounds, 230 going against the 300 pound Right, obviously size on size and that don't match.
- 13:28Speaker 2: And so I was surprised that Howard did not take advantage of that more often where they did run that play but they didn't run that play into a read option for the quarterback.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yeah, honestly, if Moussa didn't have a couple just boneheaded interceptions.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Just to be frank, when you dominate this game they did.
- 13:48Speaker 1: If you look at, if you looked at the numbers, if you kind of watched it, they, they looked that deep, that offense couldn't do anything.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And after they had beginning they got the running game going a little bit.
- 13:59Speaker 1: When they had short fields they got they started both.
- 14:02Speaker 1: The first two drives for Howard were on the 27 of Famu and then the 37 on the next drive.
- 14:08Speaker 1: So that that was after that.
- 14:11Speaker 1: It was pretty much lights out.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's over and Moussa has four turnovers, you get a safety, a fumble, in two picks.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Right, the last pick wasn't really fully on Moussa.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Right, the tight end doesn't really do a great job of blocking, but at the same point, I'm not great at throwing Right.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Like, do you?
- 14:30Speaker 2: Why don't you just check out of the play, like when you're looking to play Howard's running what looks like a base four, three.
- 14:35Speaker 2: They have a what really is a one high safety, but they really have two guys, three guys over the top, but the left side of the field is wide open.
- 14:42Speaker 2: If you go back and look there, man, that if Moussa audibles that play to where the receiver runs around and the half back runs in the flat, you can get something out of that.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Like there is a.
- 14:53Speaker 2: There were some opportunities for that play to turn into something where you don't you just ignore the right side of the ball because the corner is on the line of scrimmage Right.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 15:03Speaker 1: So Celebration Bowl champions, hb student national champions.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Let's talk about the offensive MVP from right here in Rickards, right Coming back.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Transfer back home has a game of the ages for him out of nowhere.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Let's see what we got.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Man, I'm sorry, I'm not thinking of his name real here I got to kill Vendine.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Oh, teobindine, yeah, yeah, man.
- 15:32Speaker 2: It's crazy, though Coach Simmons talked about it this morning in the show he's go and not the show, but in his morning, you know, in the season wrap up, and he's like Kelvin Dean, like we're talking about all the stuff.
- 15:44Speaker 2: He fumbles at the beginning of the game, right yeah, and the Simmons goes.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Normally when you fumble you're out of the game.
- 15:51Speaker 2: So when Kelvin comes back he's like I don't know if I'm going to get to play again because the fun and all of a sudden you go from fumbling and you know, really giving Howard a chance to make some plays, you become the catalyst for the victory.
- 16:05Speaker 1: It kind of shows, kind of what this team's about.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, they come out, oh, they stub their toe and they go.
- 16:12Speaker 1: You'll get it fixed and come out.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Three catches, 87 yards, two touchdowns for Kelvin Dean.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and the unsung heroes other.
- 16:19Speaker 2: I mean it's really Tallahassee-laden.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I mean you could look at Kelvin Dean, but don't forget about, yeah, kamari Young blows a block, but Kamari Young, I've got to be high school, I believe tie it in Makes a big catch there.
- 16:30Speaker 2: And you see another North Florida representative and Terrell Jennings.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Terrell Jennings had a really good running game, you know.
- 16:37Speaker 2: So you start looking at looking Riley, like another guy, tallahassee native, like you start seeing like a lot of Tallahassee heroes.
- 16:44Speaker 1: They didn't want Riley to beat him, they had him.
- 16:46Speaker 1: There was one deep play where they had him.
- 16:48Speaker 1: They just missed on the timing there.
- 16:50Speaker 1: But Shereed was there.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Jamar Shereed, he's been, he's been explosive all year.
- 16:56Speaker 1: He had the ice, the, the go ahead touchdown late.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's in transfer to Texas state.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so the?
- 17:04Speaker 1: So FAMU is hitting up the transfer portal.
- 17:06Speaker 1: What about who's leaving this roster first off that?
- 17:12Speaker 1: That's notable here, that fans want to know.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Musa for sure.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I mean, if you're a Rattler fan, it's Musa.
- 17:18Speaker 2: But you do have a quarterback coming in.
- 17:20Speaker 2: But going back to the call this morning, coach Simmons, he made it very abundantly clear we're going to be hitting the quarterback, looking for the transfer portal, looking for a quarterback.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Junior Muratovic is the incumbent, but you know, junior's been kind of hit or miss and his ability to read the field can be in question.
- 17:37Speaker 2: But you got, you have a quarterback room filled.
- 17:39Speaker 2: You have a bony.
- 17:40Speaker 2: You have, I don't you know.
- 17:42Speaker 2: You got Fisher in there too, if you want to count him, but you got a quarterback room filled with the street committee saying Andrew body is a potential guy.
- 17:50Speaker 2: You're also going to be looking at the receiver room.
- 17:52Speaker 2: You're looking like you're losing five receivers.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you're looking at the receiver room and you already have two more that have entered the transfer portal.
- 17:58Speaker 2: So you're pretty much desolate as far as the the receivers, even though you do have Burke coming in, coming back.
- 18:06Speaker 2: He's a receiver you got from Jacksonville Reigns High School.
- 18:09Speaker 2: The tight end room is empty, man Sage, and it's a proud Lincoln High School graduate transferring from Clemson.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That was a huge get out of the transfer portal because otherwise you're down to like one tight end with any lick of experience.
- 18:23Speaker 2: The offensive line is going to be great.
- 18:25Speaker 2: The defensive line is going to be back solid.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Your linebacker room, though.
- 18:28Speaker 2: You're losing your top, your top linebacker, but Chaney's coming in behind them and the secondary he's going to take a big hit.
- 18:34Speaker 2: The other big question is do you get Kendall Bowler back?
- 18:39Speaker 2: Kendall Bowler six foot corner, akoi High School.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Literally, I ride my bike to the school he graduated from, but are you going to miss him and how's that going to go?
- 18:49Speaker 2: But the big thing is to receive a room in special teams.
- 18:52Speaker 2: You're losing a lot.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Well, signing days right around the corner.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Early signing day that is.
- 18:57Speaker 1: You got the transfer portal.
- 18:59Speaker 1: It's changed the game so much, man, it's hard to keep track.
- 19:03Speaker 1: As a fan, you don't want to almost get too attached to some of these players because you have to look at it in a whole different perspective now with this transfer portal.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you see the Evan Flow, you see how schools are benefited and hurt by the transfer portal.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I mean literally.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I mean FAMU eats, very well, because Florida stays there.
- 19:29Speaker 2: You look at Goss being there.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Kobe Gross, that was there.
- 19:33Speaker 2: I mean you started looking at, hey, what happens if a guy like, oh you know, fsu's current starter?
- 19:40Speaker 2: But what if he enters the transfer portal and decides, hey, I'm from Valdosta, I want to go somewhere where I can play?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Well, I can go right across the street to FAMU and play.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Rodda Maker, garnd Moser.
- 19:50Speaker 2: What a take.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Well, you know that, well you know Florida State's in the transfer portal market too.
- 19:59Speaker 1: For a quarterback I think they're getting DJ oh if I had to predict it.
- 20:05Speaker 1: That's what I think is going to happen.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Speaking of Florida State, you had the chance to speak with all-time FSU great, peter Warwick, on your podcast.
- 20:15Speaker 1: You need to check it out if you haven't subscribed to it.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Fangs UP podcast.
- 20:20Speaker 1: It's on Apple Spotify.
- 20:21Speaker 1: It's on YouTube.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Check them out, man.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Give them a like, give them a subscribe.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Peter Warwick man.
- 20:27Speaker 1: What was it like man?
- 20:29Speaker 1: He's a big FAMU fan too.
- 20:30Speaker 1: He's always at the games.
- 20:32Speaker 1: What was it like getting a catch up with him?
- 20:35Speaker 2: It was cool man and it was just like we're just walking in the concourses and part of it is, I mean, I'm a Tile SC native, so it's a FAMU, fsu thing for me, those are my favorite two teams.
- 20:45Speaker 2: And so I'm walking, my camera guy and I was like dude, that's Peter Warwick, he's like what, he's a guy a little younger.
- 20:51Speaker 2: I was like that's Peter Warwick.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I explained to him he is.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I was like yo, bro, we got to interview him and so you know we walk up when I was like hey, did you mind?
- 20:58Speaker 2: You know, anytime you talk to a celebrity from my perspective, you always ask permission.
- 21:02Speaker 2: You don't just talk to the cameras and cameras at people because it gets in their nerves.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Like I definitely got Wally at the Florida Classic and he was cool about it.
- 21:09Speaker 2: But there have been other guys that you know hey, you want to play.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Nah, I don't want my picture taken.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Okay, cool, no harm, no foul.
- 21:14Speaker 2: But he was like man, I would love to and it was just really cool.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And you know I got to get some jokes in there, like, and even some.
- 21:20Speaker 2: You know I was like hey, pete, you know I introduced him to Peter Warwick.
- 21:24Speaker 2: You know, florida State football player, shoulda won the Heisman Trophy.
- 21:27Speaker 2: He got, he got robbed.
- 21:28Speaker 2: He was like Andy I stand on that Like and he actually, you know, leaned into it and it was just really cool and organic.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Think about that though.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Think about that especially in big time college football nowadays the money, the bags that these guys are getting, and these guys got suspended on for some clothes at Dillers.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Right, I imagine.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Let's think about that in modern day times.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Imagine what Dillers like Dillers would pay them Right.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Dillers would give them the clothes.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Please Just make sure they put that.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Put that camera footage of you at walking out and make sure we put that on a commercial or something.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Like what would Publix give?
- 22:08Speaker 2: I mean it's public, but still, what would Publix give to have Jamies come in there and like, do a seafood commercial?
- 22:14Speaker 1: Yeah, right, I mean the game has changed so much, man, and you know let's just keep it right there.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Florida State.
- 22:23Speaker 1: What did you think when on December 3rd I talked to Fabian Love it last week, you know he seemed kind of business like but man, I felt bad for those players to see, to see the joy in the family locker room and to just be denied to not experience that with those players was something you could kind of tell when I was talking to him.
- 22:48Speaker 1: What did you think about that?
- 22:50Speaker 2: I was upset.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I mean, just as a fan, you know and I can separate some of my fandom just because of some of what I'm blessed to be able to do I was upset.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I really felt like what's the point of them playing this regular season, having a perfect season, if they're not going to get some type of benefit from it?
- 23:06Speaker 2: But I also felt like a devalued the Atlantic Coast Conference and I felt like, honestly, my opinion has been that Florida State is eventually going to leave this conference for the Big 10.
- 23:16Speaker 2: But I feel like this devalues the ACC to the point that you have now given Florida State the ammunition to say why the heck are we here?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Right, we're not going to be doing this, because it makes no sense.
- 23:27Speaker 2: If we're going to do all of this, we're already facing a $30 million gap between ourselves and UF.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Now UCF has caught up to us as far as making funds.
- 23:36Speaker 2: What's the point of being in this conference and being a Power Five now Power Four school, when you can go perfect in the?
- 23:44Speaker 1: league conference.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I mean it was, I still.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I mean, there's fans you're never going to get over, they're never going to remember it.
- 23:52Speaker 1: You know.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I asked him, you know, because he could have gone NFL last year and I asked him if he knew what he knew now would he come back?
- 24:01Speaker 1: And he went back and said no, because of the brotherhoods in the bond that he formed.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And that's what stood out to me is there's multiple ways you can win a game and football is the ultimate team game.
- 24:13Speaker 1: You saw, we saw the celebration bowl where the quarterback almost lost the game.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Exactly, and I felt like part of the thing was I understand you know talking about how bad FSU looked in that ACC championship game, but Brock Lynn is a freshman.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Right, he's a true freshman Right, take road maker, let's, let's.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Let's keep it a, let's, keep it a buck.
- 24:34Speaker 2: He's a better passer than Jordan.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So is he the athlete?
- 24:38Speaker 2: Jordan is absolutely not.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Can he do a backflip?
- 24:41Speaker 2: Yes, but he's no, he's not the athlete.
- 24:44Speaker 2: But give him the chance to spin that thing against a team like Michigan.
- 24:47Speaker 2: I think you get a better game than you really think and for us, as defense like that was an all time great defense, I agree.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I agree it was, it's been.
- 24:57Speaker 1: It was five years that the coach Brahm had been held under 200 yards.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I mean that's you don't hold offensive guys like that under like yardage marks that he didn't have nothing.
- 25:10Speaker 1: They, that defense, played inspired football because of what they were required, which comes back to my point.
- 25:16Speaker 1: It's not fair to judge a team on one player.
- 25:19Speaker 1: It was bound to happen, though.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Fsu fans got to know ten years ago.
- 25:24Speaker 1: They went undefeated with the Heisman Trophy winner and didn't look pretty enough.
- 25:28Speaker 1: They were put number three instead of number one, and you go out across the country, you know, as opposed to staying here.
- 25:36Speaker 1: But Fang's up podcast, apple, spotify, youtube, are you?
- 25:42Speaker 1: What are you looking forward to for this this season in the basketball, for the, for the Rattlers?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Oh man, basketball season.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Honestly, I, I'm not looking for a lot.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I'm looking for some just competitive growth, but I'm really, I'm really a as a fan, I hide my concern, but I'm concerned for the state of basketball, men's basketball in the city of Tallahassee.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we see, we're both.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Florida State just lost the SMU, like yeah, how that should, that should never happen Right and I, and I think that's the.
- 26:12Speaker 1: That's where you're gonna see the gap as far as the conference money Distribution is gonna be.
- 26:18Speaker 1: In the second tier sports like basketball baseball you got schools like LSU, like forking over money for pitchers, you know, for Florida State is gonna just try to keep it up with football.
- 26:31Speaker 1: They're not gonna be able to forward to get these basketball players.
- 26:33Speaker 1: So you know right.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Go to Miami and honestly I think that's where FSU baseball is gonna shine.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Though, like I Believe in link Jared and I believe link Jared and Jamie Schu have really revitalized baseball in Tallahassee.
- 26:48Speaker 2: I think if you give them a few years, you know how's her, how's there is better than some minor league.
- 26:54Speaker 2: A heck How's there's better than some professional stadiums.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I told me, your friend, I'm a raised fan.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I love going to the TROP but I like it because it's air-conditioned, every other reason.
- 27:03Speaker 2: If you put the Raise at Dick Howard Stadium, I would.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I would gladly watch that because it's just better sight lines, better venue, just a better baseball facility.
- 27:12Speaker 2: But I think, as you mentioned when you're talking about basketball and those second tier sports, they're gonna struggle to keep up and they're really gonna.
- 27:21Speaker 2: If you ask me, florida States move is gonna be to bring back a guy like CY from Missouri.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yes, now you start that coaching staff and what you lost when that was all downhill once he left.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It was downhill once CY leaves.
- 27:35Speaker 2: That's the.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Level left like I don't.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I don't know how many people got to witness it and I wish more people could have seen it, but I've gotten to.
- 27:46Speaker 2: I played basketball with CY.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I'm not gonna say again, oh, wow, and Because on Thursdays they would play basketball at the practice, at the practice facility, and so they would get some of the guys together.
- 27:59Speaker 2: And my boss at the time he was like bro, you want to play ball?
- 28:02Speaker 2: Like sure, whatever, I'm not thinking we're playing ball in Florida State.
- 28:05Speaker 2: We walked down there and I'm like yo, yo, bro, this is the practice facility.
- 28:08Speaker 2: But the level of competition was there and it was that you had a coach who played International basketball that was able to not only just talk the game but he was able to give you some buckets, like Dulkies was there and like you start seeing the old guys come around.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I don't know how much you're getting that with coach ham right now because he is a little older in age and he's falling off.
- 28:29Speaker 1: So ever since the tragedy of the, the canceled tournament, which was one of my Like saddest moments in sports until, I guess, this year the football team.
- 28:40Speaker 1: But man, what a fun event.
- 28:42Speaker 1: The celebration bowl was.
- 28:43Speaker 1: What a great season for fam you.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Where where does this team rank in all-time?
- 28:48Speaker 1: Fam you lower here.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Oh man, I'm gonna.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I'm gonna be modern, just because I am a bit younger and I don't want to disrespect the gate, the era, but I definitely think this team is probably in the modern era, top three or four.
- 29:02Speaker 2: I mean, you've got the big Lijo era but they never got it done.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I, you know, you have Patrick Bonner and Quinn Gray and all these amazing quarterbacks and all these.
- 29:13Speaker 2: You know Jaqueline Dunnelly breaks Jerry Rice's record, but they never got it done.
- 29:17Speaker 2: And so I think this is why you know, I've hesitate to say their number one, because there's so many things, as you mentioned, that Fam, you there's not put together a complete game.
- 29:28Speaker 2: The season where those things put together complete games, right where, I think, the top two or three, and it's crazy the season ends where it's starting next year.
- 29:36Speaker 2: First game this season, august 24th, atlanta, same city, different stadium, but it's gonna be interesting and you're still going the me x whack type challenge, so it's gonna be good times and good vibes.
- 29:48Speaker 2: I look, if you're going up there for that event, go get a box.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Who's to be like hot, but it's pretty cool.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I think there's one of the best teams and okay, I'm gonna remember this real well man.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm never gonna forget it.
- 29:58Speaker 1: What a what an event it was.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Keith, I want to thank you for coming on again.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Check out Keith Keith's podcast fangs up podcast, apple, spotify, youtube.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Keith, let's do it again sometime, all right?
- 30:10Speaker 2: Absolutely, man.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I'm only a call away.
- 30:12Speaker 1: All right, keith, we'll talk to you next time in yes, sir.
- 30:15Speaker 1: All right, take care.
