- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: How's it, Bill's fans, Lance Nelson here, president of built in Buffalo, welcome in to the triple coverage podcast brought to you by the big tree in Wingnuts Buffalo, 7-1 Slicks Barbershop and Landcaster indoor bounce house.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: To my left is Scott Cassin to my right is Benjamin Schupe.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: Not a ton of news in this past weeks since our last show, but we'll get into a little bit of the offseason meeting talks.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Start a bigger dive into the NFL draft here in the 2026 draft season and a world famous around the league segment from our guy Benjamin Schupe as well.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Sub-shoot.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing much, nothing much.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, a great exciting day for Buffalo Sports fans with the Sabers playing right now on the power play and hopefully they can officially clinch and break the drought, but we'll see see if they can and then yeah not too much with the bills, but we're getting closer and closer to draft week.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah exciting exciting stuff.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm not, I'm not a Saber's fan.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a devil fan, and I'm having fun.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: And it has been fun to hear Saber's fans talk about the new playoff system that's been around for like eight years now.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: So it's been fun to see them learn that.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I also want to thank all of our viewers for the thoughts and prayers for Ben's back.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's healed and he's back and here with us.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, they call miracles.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Really do happen today if you just ask.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: love it a lot of it and we will never not harass Ben on the show until he yells at us and just signs off but it's what brings the money to us right you know it's because they just
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the NFL meetings didn't give us a ton, but it gave us a few little snippets here.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: And Brandon Beans interview, we talked about some load management with Don't and Conquade and picking up the fifth year option.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: So Scott, talk about your feelings on the fifth year option being picked up, which I think we can all kind of agree was pretty easy decision.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then this load management and something
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: to be set around not getting surgery and continuing to kind of limber through this PCL situation.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so picking up his 50th year option at 8.1 million, no brainer, a spot where him missing some games they've actually helped them.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: 8.1 million when he is healthy and on the field is an absolute steal for a player, his caliber, so no question picking that up.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he mentioned
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: two years ago and elected not to have surgery, which PCL is not generally, I'm not a doctor, I've had enough surgeries on my knee to know kind of what's going on there.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: I do have, I think, I do have my PCL and surgically constructed ACL that used to be my Patel attendant, fun fact.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: But PCL surgeries like they don't usually operate on them because
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: Operating on them is almost like a more risky than just letting heal PC else heal on their own.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: They have really good blood flow.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: They generally don't need surgery that does rehab it.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: And the surgery recovery is usually worse than if you just.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: let it happen.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: So people are saying, like, why didn't he get surgery on his knee?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that would have made things better.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, it wouldn't.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: It might have made things worse.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's just something that he's going to deal with.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he's had a knee injury and he tweaked it again last year.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: And hopefully he doesn't have to miss too many games.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: But you don't love hearing that about him because there's no question when he's on the field, the bill's offends, just goes to another level.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: So you hope that this is just kind of concern and not something you have to worry about.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, no brainer to pick up that 8.1 million and this new thing unfortunately may be something that he deals with for a while and kind of like a future loss problem that probably after this season they'll have to see like, hey, do we want to extend him?
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: How's that need you look in all the all that kind of stuff?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm also not a doctor, but
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: don't love having to load manage our tight-end who should be young and don't try to spy, but then tell me everything that you feel and think about this topic, please.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm wondering what load management means to them when he's already playing what 40% of the snaps right around 40% like what then is he's going to be a 20% like that's kind of I guess what I'm wondering most is what is then load management them if they haven't already been doing that.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully practice.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, probably just even how we practice this, but yeah, either way, it's the yeah, it's not not fun to hear about the surgery part, from what it seems like it seems like it doesn't make it really, it does seem like it might be the worst option to actually do the surgery as the mentioned Scott like risk alert.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so that I don't really have an issue with, but yeah, it's not obviously great news to hear that they're going to have to load management, but
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if it keeps them on the field and important drives late in the season, then I'm all for it.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: amazing analysis.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: There was also talks about bringing back brand and cooks.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: Ben, how do you feel about the likelihood or possibility of cooks coming back to Buffalo and do you think it'd be sort of a redemption season for him if he comes back to Buffalo or are you saying, not dog, you screwed it up, say the heck out of it.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: gladly have them back.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: I do want them to still add one or two more pieces to the wide receiver room, whether it's adding cooks in a late-round pick to late-round picks of first like whatever they do I want them to add somebody so or two at least one or two people and cooks as a guy that obviously's been in league for a while.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Good veteran to have in that wide receiver room, maybe help Keon out a little bit, you know, they draft somebody help that guy out a little bit too if he's in there.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I gladly welcome him back.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: Scott Casson, tell me.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, same.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: You would imagine it would be an expensive probably right around the minimum.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: Did some good things when he was here and he said he was in touch with his agent.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: So it's you would imagine that means there's some some mutual interest there.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: That cooks probably wants to come back to Buffalo.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: in Buffalo for very long, but it definitely seemed like he made an impact in that locker when he was here.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: You saw how emotional he got after the playoff game in Denver, in Jacksonville when Cole Bishop picked off that ball to end that game.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: He was the first guy to go up the Josh down and give him a hug, hooked pumped up.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: He's a vet.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's been around a long time.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: He very easily could have just kind of gone through the motions, played hard and he was on the field, but like
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it could have not even come like, so he bought in all the way.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: He seemed to be a great guy in the locker room.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: He's a vet presence that would help with the young receivers that they have and may be adding to this roster, which we'll talk about later.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I would absolutely love to have him back just last year.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: He was kind of playing that extra seever role.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he's wide receiver four or five this time.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, would love him back.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can't imagine he's not jumping at the bit to come back to Buffalo and sort of, you know, what happened happened and it's not all his fault that the bills didn't get it done in Denver by any means, but you know, he was part of one of the bigger plays of that game, maybe the biggest moment of the game and he's got to want some, you know,
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: He made a, there was a play he was involved in that that definitely hurt the bills chances to win that game tremendously and they did end up losing as a result of the play.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he's got to want to get back and
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if he wants to make up for it, if he wants any sort of retribution or revenge the right term is not coming to me right now, but that sort of thing, he's going to want to come back and see if he can push this team over the top in the season.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: I've got to imagine it's a lot of fun playing with Josh Allen as well, so everyone who has played with him is going to want to come back and play with him again, I would believe, so
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I all all in on bringing him back would would love it.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he would be all for it.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Logan Stanley is about to mess.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Dave, he was just kind of throwing them around and could chuck his try and his best to get some free.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry for anybody that's not just for the side most, but I just saw that other corner.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: I Stanley's just whipping could chuck back and forth and could chuck, trying his absolute hardest to like put his head up and it's
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: didn't work out too well for him but all right sorry about that but yeah Brandon cooks come on back to the bills and uh yeah if you're not following the seabers game live we're sorry for the spoiler but go check out uh Logan Stanley uh whoopin cachuk your just rush them they just showed the replay and it just the chuk just looks at him and just drops the gloves and
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Brandon Beans, last comment that we have highlighted here is that a wide receiver would still be an option in the first round.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: We missed our chance at a big debate last week, due to Ben's back, but you know, everyone knows that I'm all in if the bills want to take a wide receiver round one.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: without going into the whole argument, I guess the show could go an hour and a half to two hours if we did that.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: What any thoughts I guess on being saying that the wide receiver still is an option.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: The first even though their second round pick was spent on DJ Moore.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Scott.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's nice to hear that it's still an option for the people that are team-wide receiver in the first round.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: We'll go in a more detail later, but I thought it was interesting that with some of the things that Bean has done in the past about receiver and some of the comments that he's made trading high draft value for DJ Moore and that may be using the first round pick on one as well.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: So basically using your first two picks on wide receivers just a little change of tune from what we've heard in the past.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, if they end up doing it or not, it's obviously, I think, look, it's definitely a risk if you're going to go another wide receiver because then you're saying defense, we don't think as many holes as maybe the consensus around bills, not if you think, but yeah, I mean, you got you have to at least keep them on the table.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: You can't just say, oh, we're not going to take a receiver anymore, like if
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: If the bills aren't a weird spot where there could be like three or four guys there that are really interesting players that a lot of people would like there could be none there.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: So it just it's going to be a weird spot who knows who's falls and you know if there's nobody else there and they can't find a trade partner.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a receiver that they like that might be there they might say, hey, you know, this is the best option for right now.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: We don't like anybody else at this spot.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: We can't move down.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, it's always good to keep an open, but I still would be very shocked if they end up going on your shiver.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think being saying this changes the odds on them taking your silver and round one.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, yeah, it's basically, uh, saying that we're going all in on the offense and, uh, we're not going to come up short if, uh, we have the opportunity to unoffense anymore.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you're going to fill all the holes through the, through the draft.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: you know, they have other holes on defense they may, but the draft's not the place to fill all your holes that's a place to try to, you know, get young prospects in to better team and you're obviously going to try to get positions of need in some regard, but it shouldn't be the main focus, and especially your topic, you know, it needs to be the player that can most help.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: get your franchise to the highest point you can get and I'm just not sure that the defensive players that are potentially going to be there are going to do that.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe the wide receiver position won't either, but I'm not sure that the needs of the football team really should play a huge factor in it.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: They are part of the equation, but not the driving force for me.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: They needed a corner back last year, they did take that round one, but there's not a glaring need.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: There's not like a nose tackle.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's certainly that you're going to take round one.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's the biggest glaring need here for this team is the nose tackle in the three four.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: Everything else is you need to build depth at these positions.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: You could use this.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: You could use that, but it's not like you can't get those guys potentially throughout the summer or lean later rounds of the draft outside of the first.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: love that wide receiver is still an option.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you know we don't want to give Josh Allen the Aaron Rodgers treatment and never draft him receivers in the first round.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: Try to give take as many swings that giving this offense good weapons as you can.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: AJ Appanesa fails his physical going to the browns.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Do you guys think that he could pass a physical in Buffalo and what would be the difference in.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: Would you want him back and what would be the difference in passing a physical to come back from Buffalo to Buffalo maybe.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the staff still the same that would understand it a little bit more than what the brown staff does.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really sure how that would work.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: But if.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: If.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: If.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: it's just depends on those doctors so.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Right exactly.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_01]: There's more familiarity, more history, more data here in Buffalo.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: It also depends on the contracts.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: If I, I'm sorry, I touch off, but I'm good.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: Well, up to having back on a cheap deal that not much guaranteed at all, where sure passes physical, because if you caught them, nothing happens.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: The browns weren't weren't in that position where if you got hurt, they owe them a lot of money.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah,
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: asking the physicals up to whoever the doctor that's doing it, cheap deal.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think he could play pretty well at that outside linebacker role in the three four.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: So if he, if the bill's wanting back and he's probably going to be cheap now, I'm open for it.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if this, I mean, if it's, you know, dissents up a ruining his market, which you can imagine could end up ruining his market and gets no money at this after this.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm fine with that.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'll never really like say absolutely no to a guy if they're dirt cheap, like, if you can get dirt, it's good to have depth.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: And if he's a guy that you can sign for cheap for depth, or at least even bring in for training camp.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: And if he doesn't, you know, you have guys that you like better and you wanna cut him, doesn't hurt you really.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you're going to do something even close to what the Browns were going to do, I'm good on that part, but yeah, I don't necessarily want him back, but again, it's kind of like cooks, I could be fine with him back.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's good enough player where it's not something I'm going to be up in arms about bringing him back or anything because I think I'll hurt the team.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think that he can help with the help of team and if you can go and cheap, why not?
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: definitely on board for the low-risk deal with incentives and like Sandra says good common here that if they're going to get them that probably get them after the draft maybe post-tune first even just you know let him do his thing and then bring him in later in the summer and see where he's at and
- 17:13[SPEAKER_01]: If they're still in need there, maybe there's other options that would be more beneficial to the defense than bringing him along, but we do need 90 to get to the training camp.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: So if he's one of those guys and it's not a huge guarantee, then go for it.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: Now do you want to get that British guy?
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, nice.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: They really need to bring back those Gabe Davis, the Lance can wear his jersey still.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, we're gonna order last year.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: You just sent pictures of it.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: We've never seen it worn.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: We've never seen it in person.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen the same picture about.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure I wore it to a game, but maybe not.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: I have to see.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: This is brought to you by the big tree in.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's a wing night down at the big tree in.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: So if you haven't had dinner yet, go out and get yourself some Earth sauce or a wing flavors over at the big tree in.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: Super good and hot and crispy there.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Wing that's Buffalo.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you to them for always having us along with those players and other events.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: I greatly appreciate there.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: And 7-1 Slicks Barbershop on Broadway and Dupue.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: Go to the Cut App and search 7-1 Slicks and book with Dennis and his staff and get your
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: Here, they do great fades over there.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: So get your hair faded very well by the folks there.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then landcaster indoor bounce house, good clean fun for the whole family.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Got a little arcade, spark arcade there, and great bounce houses with a little snack check, as well, good for birthday parties.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, really neat little place here in landcaster.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: All right, guys, the draft, Scott, you want to start here with the first topic in the 2026 draft dive on the triple coverage spot guest.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so what do we got two two weeks till the draft?
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: So this show, and then two more, and then it's draft night.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: If my calendar reading skills are correct, so the bills are picking at 26 in the first round, then do you think they're going to pick at number 26?
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: I had to put money on it.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: I would say no.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think that it'll end up being one of those three to have money on it.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: What if you didn't have to put money on it?
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, if it's like what I want, first, what I think they'll do, that's different.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: So they're guys either way, if what I want them to do is keep the heat to pick and stay at 26, but
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think they'll move back just because I think that it will end up being a situation where there's not really anybody there that is very intriguing at 26.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they'll look at it as, hey, we can get some graphed capital back this year so we can add more guys in the second and third ground.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: So that we can, you know, bring in as much as many young guys that we can to that to see how many, you know, take as many swings as easy as you can and hopefully, you know, a couple of him hit.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they'll end up trading back.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: Lance or trade up or trade up.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be shocked about that.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'd.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'd also be kind of shocked if they trade up, but I don't know, I guess with the depth of the draft being more.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's a deeper draft, so maybe a certain position number three versus a versus that same position number six.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say maybe those guys aren't so far apart that you need to reach for a guy at 26 and if you can get more picks and just more guys in, then maybe you know can get
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: A wide receiver and a linebacker early on or something like that and then have more picks in the third and beyond to fill other needs like defensive tackle or other things like that.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm just interested to see what the plan will be, but I wouldn't hate, you know, if they took a swing at 26 for a wide receiver as I've been saying, that would be ideal, or if they even like a guy so much as to go up and get them, if it's a playmaker on offense and they go up and get them at school.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure what other position I'd really like to see a move up for, but you know, if it wasn't too many spots and they moved up and maybe got one of the top linebackers, I don't you know, I'm not sure they would need to do that and maybe they would get to them at 26, but it's an idea wouldn't necessarily hate, but yeah, I think it's 26 or later that they're going to pick.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree with you guys.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: Brendan being a show to us over the years when they don't have a pick in the second or third round, he tries to get them one, whether that be trading up back into it, which isn't necessarily his favorite, but definitely trading back, as they've done in a couple of years.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: So the bills have seven picks in the straft, five of them are in day three, they only have two day one picks.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: So it would, two day one in two picks, excuse me, two days in the stand draft now.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: And it's the day as it was.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: First three rounds on Saturday, next four rounds on Sunday.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: And then after making prime time, you have to stay up till 2 a.m. to watch your team pick.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: But I digress.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_02]: But being has shown that they like to have a lot of picks.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: And he's been a little more aggressive this year with going and getting DJ Moore.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe that's a sign of things to come with more aggressiveness.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: Be I agree.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think he'll trade back ever so slightly, try to get another day to pick.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: So they can try to get another second round pick.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you mentioned, you know, drafting not based on just best available or should not just based on need with best available, but the team, if the draft was right now, which it pretty much is like there are some holes they have to fill they need guys to come in and play right away specifically at.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: nose tackle and linebacker and maybe a couple other positions there.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: So it would make sense for them to not try to get less picks in this draft because they have spots to fill especially early on.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_02]: So mention some of those other areas of need there outside of receiver because we're going to talk about that later.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_02]: But Lance, what's a position group or two that you're looking at that you want them to draft early on because the the team specifically on defense definitely has holes.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely, looking at the line-backer position, you know, you got a couple of guys that are probably in the first round here in sunny styles in RFL rease the guys from Ohio State, you know, mace-lip to the bills at 26
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: maybe decent picks there for the bills, whichever they like better.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: There's also Jacob Rodriguez who's sort of trending towards going maybe in the second or third round and it's going to be tough if you don't trade back to get him at the position where it's most valuable and then a guy like
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: Josiah Trotter could be, you know, squarely at their pick at 91 in the third round where they could select him if he were still available and not have to move anywhere to get still a really good linebacker.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm looking at.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: one of the two Ohio state guys early if that's what they're looking to do and they think that's the path towards making this the best football team they can if they really want to prioritize defense I think getting a guy in the middle at the off-ball line back up position and or sunny styles who can both drafts have favorite reason sunny styles go on top 10 so if they follow the bills it's 26
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm saying, or make a move up, you know, I'm saying, if they made a move up for that sort of thing, but they probably couldn't get where they needed to get to for a style.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, April Reese is going to, and the ESPN mock draft that came out today from a Mel Kiper Jr. and his pumpkin pies.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, it's likely you're looking at Jacob Rodriguez or Josiah Trotter, right?
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: And as the real possible ones and Rodriguez is tough where he's sort of looking at might be a reach at 26, but if that's who they think, then those are the sort of guys that you're looking to fill this defense with.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't read you guys in my list as well.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, Ben, and I'll get you out of it.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: Smotted to mention him while he's brought up.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he was a guy I had them targeted maybe.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: If they do trade back and get that second round pick, because he's being mocked, kind of.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: anywhere in the second round from what I've seen.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: So he's a guy that if they do end up with another second round pick, that would be an awesome fit.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: He seems to all the right things, the text attack that defense was on real this season, kept him in that game with Oregon.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: They had no business being in on the college football playoff.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_02]: So he would be a guy who, I think, would fit a well and buffalo, and he has a great mustache.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: Those don't, not everybody can do that myself included so then what's a position group you're looking at or two and maybe some guys you're looking at as well
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm really interested to see what they do in the nose tackle.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: If they do try to attack that in the draft, it's kind of a weird nose tackle draft.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: There's really two guys maybe that could jump up early in the draft and like the first second round and then a lot of guys in like that third through fifth range.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: If they do decide to go first round, I'm kind of coming more around to the idea of going
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so the one guy I want to talk about is Kaden McDonald from the Ohio State University.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people, I've seen have compared him to a DJ reader type of player.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: And at first, you know, I thought, oh, no, no, it's heck on the first round.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's kind of an uninspiring move.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's not an exciting, like super exciting pick.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a ad brush or it's not a receiver.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's not it's it's it's
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: not even a corner even though I know from a lot of people would not like a corner pick, but it's just, it's not really that exciting.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, at first I didn't really love the idea, but now that I'm kind of coming around to like, hey, if you can get it just a guy that can be in the middle of that defense, on the middle of that line, just plugging it up for the next four or five years, like that would be,
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's a position they've been looking to fill out and I'm not know exactly, but defensive tackle has been a position that seems like they have just cycle through guys behind at Oliver for years and you get another promising young guy.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, but who knows what the plan is for him this year now.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to move him to edge.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to keep him at nose tackle.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think that they'll.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have a pure nose tackle right now on this team.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I could see them going there first round that I actually wouldn't mind it.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: Big boy here at six to three thirty three twenty six, you measured it in at the calm line, but um.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'd be excited for him after initially kind of just not thinking the pick would be, you know, anything special, you know, I think it'd be a good one despite it not being a flashy pick.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's where I'm more team trade back assuming it's not a receiver that they go for, but like one of those nose tackles, one of those linebackers, they're probably going to be able to get if they move back a little bit the guy from Ohio State, you were talking about McDonald.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_02]: If he's there, that's kind of right around where they have him going.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_02]: So if he's there at 26, maybe they just take him, but if he goes earlier than that, like there's some other guys like Peter Woods from Clemson, it's another, he's not quite a prototypical no stack, but he can line up all over.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think I saw his snap count this past year, you played like about three.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: about 200 at nose tackle and then about 3,400 elsewhere.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of, we'll keep a move all around, which might be something they look at and say the thing.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right, especially with the other like Dion Walker's a guy who in the systems probably going to be able to move all around.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_02]: We know Ed can move a little bit.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_02]: Greg Russo can line up all around, maybe last so in the 3,4, but yeah, maybe that's something they look at.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: Another nose tackle that I
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to say if I'm interested in he's had some off the field that she's been Xavier and Harris from Ole Miss, he's six, eight, three, thirty.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's that gap filler, clog up a whole kind of guy.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe he's a guy they look at later in the draft, but if they don't go nose tackle, they can talk about edge as well, cashiest howl on a Texas A&M is the pick.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: Deeline, they need a lot of them, they guys are going to come in and make an impact early.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: So any other guys we didn't talk about or maybe areas of need.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't talk about a big citrus.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: I can talk about Dominique Orange.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: You can talk about whoever you want.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: I love the the nickname and, you know, fits the what the bill's might need.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's just his projected second late second round.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be tough for them to get there unless they do trade back and acquire late second round pick or, you know, early third round potentially if he slipped there.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I wouldn't hate Dominique Orange.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: The one guy I'm kind of intrigued, I've seen him mocked the bills, and it's a secondary pick that's the only one that I kind of would actually be excited to see how they'd use him is Toledo safety, manual, McNeil Warren.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of a similar player to Imon Warrior last year not the hype or anything and not definitely not didn't play at the level that Imon Warrior played at, going from Toledo.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: He did.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't necessarily all's great.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: What don't don't hate action.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying it's it's a we'll get to that conversation actually in a second or two if that matters to you.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just lost the guy from Toledo.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: No, we got to get one back.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but he's a he's a guy that safety wise.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: I know he's it's wouldn't be a popular pick, but I think it would set up your second
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: very interesting spot to be able to really move around guys like Bishop and Gardner Dronson and Alford, you know, be able to really just kind of get and let Jim one or if you want to say it getting his bag and just start moving guys around.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a guy that I don't think many people would be happy with, but if they do decide to go secondary, I could see him be in on their radar.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, based on looking at the board and guys who are there in positions at the bills really need trade back seems to make a lot of sense if they're they're going to go that spot it's not like there's a ton of nose tackles who are going to go in the first route like there's there's two that there's two or three that could go in day one into two.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_02]: But then that's about it.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_02]: You could probably get those guys early in day two.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: Same with linebacker like there are some linebackers like you mentioned why that's who we're going to go really early And then there are some linebackers that are going to go maybe earlier in day two.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, trade trade back does seem to make a lot of sense on the last That first pick is going to be a receiver which I know Lance wants because he likes fantasy football so much and doesn't realize there is a defense so Lance Will the first pick be a receiver and if so who?
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, obviously I've been on the Omar Cooper Junior train, but I think that he may not even be available unless the bills were to trade up to try to get him at this point.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: The mocks are having him go earlier and earlier, but, uh,
- 33:25[SPEAKER_01]: Just, you know, look, just watching, and I know it was one game in the national championship game, but it's a big game seeing his skills has had games, has Fernando Mendoza, and he and played well.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: I can't do that.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_02]: I can't do that.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: I can't do that.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_02]: It was on McAfee, and he was like, what in big games?
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what in Mendoza even do?
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: And they were like, uh, he was like, time to check it out.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, tie Simpson outplayed him.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, are you talking about the game?
- 33:54[SPEAKER_02]: They won 40 and nothing.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: And so that's a meme that's going around.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_02]: I like oral abski, but it was not, um, not his finest moment.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I don't know, just seeing some of the, you know, yards after the catch, the, you know, in space escape ability and dynamic play that Omar showed in the National Championship game specifically and obviously wasn't his only moment there, but I just think that
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of what they want Shakira to do, and I don't think he's quite as dynamic as Cooper Jr.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I wouldn't mind, like Shakira can also line up outside at times, too.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: So to get somebody who would play more slaughter or do more of the quick screen game and allow Shakira to do other things that he has some ability to do.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would be the worst thing.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: I know a lot of people are high on KC conception as well.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: So wouldn't hate that.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're going to talk about him a little bit more and just a little bit as well.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: But maybe taking a look at a Ted Hearst pick, maybe not at 26 specifically, but maybe at a tradeback and getting him.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's, I think, Ted Hearst is, is,
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: uh... potentially going to go towards the the back end of the first round early seconds so uh... guy you could trade back a few spots where do you have him going uh... not then late day two day three maybe uh... misread them off the day and then guy guys all the time yeah he's here in the smoth account he's at seventy one but i's at
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: right on.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't think I have to move much and they wanted to get it.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was just my point.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a mystery by me and my full.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you know, that's decent move.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's where you're, that's where the conversation we had earlier where the guy like if we don't get wide receiver three, you know, ranked by some people in Omar, or then, you know, if wide receiver four or five is Ted Hurst, then you're.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: you know, how much are you losing out on the guys?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a huge drop off?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I think that picking Omar Cooper or Casey, you can set your own in the first would be, you know, a big W for this offense.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you can have enough playmakers at a on a rookie deal on a cheap controlled deal for the offense.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I don't think they'll go receiver.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: I, I just, you know, part, or to part of the reason why you're, which is your said Lance is they already have at least three guys for the next three years on the contract that is right now not going anywhere.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you add a fourth, and then who are the three guys?
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: more Shakir and Coleman I guess Coleman you could cut but he's contract is are two the two years at no three years I've been straight ahead of a story years two more years for Coleman four more years for Shakir four more years for more I don't I don't know that was a but like
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's the thing is then if you, what do you do if it was concave if you extend him that's another guy that's a weapon that you extended in James Cook's extended so yeah, it would be nice to make that decision easier on like a Coleman if he's not performing to earth he's let's say has a decent year this year makes it easier to say okay let's just stay with the rookie and maybe get something out of Coleman whatever it's just
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: For me, like you also brought about, you know, why does he for three compared to why does he before I'm not even sure there's a major difference between like why does she for three and why does she feel like 10 like that's the thing is It's draft is that deep at receiver it's not the top loaded draft it's kind of right out throughout the entire draft of
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I wouldn't be mad at why does she have a first round or just it'd be a little bit confusing.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: Then I guess to see how they handle the rest of the draft and the rest of the offseason.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: I just think if you're going to put that that many assets into it and that's been a big talk and point over the past two or three years is asset management.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, whether it's D line or receive or whatever it is.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: They have to work that it has to and absolutely this pick you pick a few pick or silver that guy has to be good because then it's another server that you missed and you know you're too direct to your two most recent graphic receivers are misses and What are you gonna do then at knows tackle lineback or depth corner so for me I just don't think they will You would sign guys
- 38:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'd still draft them in a later rounds.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be final round three round.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'd even find if they trade back and round two and go, like, let's say Omar Cooper Jr. falls to round two and they get to say, hey, they trade back to 35, whatever it is or 40, and they think then, okay, well, let's go back up and get them or let them fall to us.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_00]: That'd be something that I could see too, go and receive her early second, and then you go, nose tackle, line back, whatever you do in rounds three, late round two, whatever it is.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah, I, I'm, I don't, not completely rule out like I said, I think that if it's the best player there and they can't get a trade for that they like they could say, I feel let's just go all offense and this our offense isn't going to lose.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, we've seen that strategy before I have other teams.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's work.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's not work.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, you know, I wouldn't be shocked.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_00]: I guess just that if they did that, but, um,
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: I just think it all all signs point to they're going to try to go defense and round one or that they're first pictures because they're not really going after too many guys on that side in positions in need.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_02]: I do not want them to go after receiver in the first round unless a guy who's a slam dunk absolutely falls or you know like I just think there's too many holes on the defensive side of the ball right now.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I also am fan of trading back and getting some more picks in day two to get maybe three starters on the defensive linebacker and nose tackle and who knows where else.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: I like Omar Coper Jr.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_02]: I like Casey conceptual, but they're not like slam dunk home run targets at that spot.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like what Ben hit it spot on like the The draft at receiver isn't Super strong at the top, but there's like a lot of guys you'd be happy with.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: I 100% want them to draft for receiver at some point in the draft and not in the seventh round like last year
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's the biggest thing I think he, it's like, they missed out on guys like you go through the wide receiver profiles like, oh man, kind of got this guy, kind of got that guy and like, who knows, but you know, you talk about guys like Troy Franklin or, I don't know, he's not like a superstar or nothing but he's doing some things in Denver and different different stuff.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: So it's like, just for me, it's more of like, get just get a swing in there before the seventh round like you just mentioned.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: And we also have like, I'm not sure where this like,
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: big need at like edge in this defense like you talking like the outside linebacker, I think yeah, that's what they like the other events of end positions are pretty stacked with dudes that we've drafted over the last three years.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it would be the out outside linebacker spots.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: I know we have a group and And she'll just have a point.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, and I'm going to line up anywhere guy and coming off in a killie.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: So The other guys that they drafted like Solomon is he a fit in this defense.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like his land and jacks in a guy like that's gonna work
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean he like he I mean actually I might benefit him a little bit to go into this but like there's guys that will benefit guys that won't benefit from this the skier Sanders I don't necessarily know whether
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and he was a guy I was excited for last year, but now it's yeah, it's where does he fit here because he's not really going to be He's not an edged me and he's not a nose tackle so like where do you fit him in?
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't be shocked if they do try to trade somebody like a Dwayne Carter or E.T.J.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: Sanders or whatever for a late-round pick just to get something back if they feel like they can like I really wouldn't just because if they decide to go Let's say a casher's how or not one
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: Um, or they just decide to go somebody round three or trade background to whatever it is, that's then yeah, like you said, Lancers a lot of guys there in that room, but how many of them right now would you feel confident on the football field with three, four, maybe like it's, it is those guys you just named pretty much, um, and if one of them goes down, it'd be nice to have somebody there, but yeah, I, I think I do agree the lands.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_00]: I do think edge first round
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think if you go a position on need on defense round one or early on too, it's got to be either knows to tackle lineback or corner.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: I actually would say corner would be over edge for me in terms of a need for this team, because you're still on all really what Harrison is fanfords there who else you have behind them.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: and hair is already dealt with injuries last year, Benford's dealt with injuries.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I actually would even put corner over edge for me.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: You just sign an edge in shove.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I know he's not, he's older and you can't just rely.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: There may be injuries so you got to have stuff behind him.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: Definitely need depth there, but I don't know if that's in the first round.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's another one where it's like, it's asset management.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: How is that a good use in this first round?
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: Unless somebody falls to you that you didn't think was possible, like, is it good asset management to go get another edge?
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: At least around one, I don't necessarily think it is.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, I said this on the last show and maybe even the show before I'm going to say it again, but what's different about this year's bills draft is the head coach of the team, it's no longer defensive minded guys and offensive minded guy so I still don't think they're going to draft to receive her.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: but if you have the head coach of your team pound in the table for somebody and he's in the room now and maybe a alright man like at your team we're going to give you what you want like maybe that's the path that gets somewhere but I just think there's too many too many spots on defense that need
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: need to look before they can, you know, take a receiver, uh, Lance, I'll let you run with this next one because it's, it's your question and, um, it's prospect of age and that is that a factor if you and I just watch that new Netflix dating show, Age of Attraction, so it's like ageless dating, so I do feel like I'm ready to talk about, you know, people's age.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: amazing.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I mean, when you guys, this is just a fun conversation.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that we could have on a couple of different ways you look at prospects and, you know, when you're looking at who you'd like the bills to draft, does it
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: come into, there's a really factor in for you at all the age, whether it's a, you know, Trell Edmund's type, like you can get as, you know, many of his developmental years here in the NFL, or, you know, you can get an older guy now with the COVID rules and everything.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_01]: You've got a lot of guy.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: uh... god guys coming out that have been in college for some time and uh... specifically a guy like a key message or uh... who is an edge who is like twenty five years old about to turn twenty six soon like is that a guy twenty four about turn twenty five sorry i don't know so is that a guy you you want to uh... you'd want to bring in or is that somebody you would sort of avoid
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it's a complete like I'm not going to look at this prospect because of this But if I would say if it is between Ham and in somebody else and that's somebody else is a bit younger and all things else are equal Then maybe it becomes a factor because when guys are the sage like they're about as developed as they're going to be like you know what you're going to get that's why
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: way more in basketball than in the NFL, but in the NBA draft, like the 18-year-old, 19-year-olds, always going to get drafted ahead of the four-year senior, the Alex Caravan for this upcoming draft.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_02]: Even if he may be a better player right now, we'll make more of the mean impact.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: His ceiling isn't, he's not anywhere close to a ceiling yet, so while I wouldn't, like, not look at somebody because of their age, but
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: If there was this two players side by side and all things are more or less equal and there's a 21-year-old in the 24-year-old that would take the 21-year-old Yeah, I think it depends also what type of team where you are at with your team right now like the bills if there's a 2017 I probably wouldn't want to draft 24-25.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: You're old if they're rebuilding if Now like they're in win now mode.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: You if you guys 24, but you can help your team or 25 the kelp team you still do that
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, now if he's like obviously a brand and we didn't out there in that 29 years old and training NFL or was he 20 27 27 27 27.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's now pushing 30 that's a different story.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I would probably say away from that.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's also even like positions like running back.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to draft an older running back.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's pros and cons to that if he doesn't have a lot of miles on him from college and he's 24.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's a pretty good thing because by the time his contracts up he's 28 29 and that's the age that you probably not going to pay him.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to want to move on anyways, where if you do have to running back at 20 21 it's contracts going to be up at 24 25 he's going to want to get paid.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: So it just depends I think on position to what your team's doing right now, you know, just it depends a lot of things.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_00]: It definitely can play a factor, but either way I will say I don't think it will be a.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: major, major factor at any point for a team, like it's, yeah, it might be a certain factor depending on two different players if you're looking at them, but you're not going to rule a guy completely out because he's 24 or 25, if they're good enough, if you're good enough, you're going to get drafted as high as you can be, so.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think for this, like you said, if this team needs a guy that's more mature and he can come in and help right away, that'd be ideal, especially if it's a non-first round pick and you're getting a guy that can kind of step in and his maturity helps him contribute sooner.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then the second thing with prospects and how you look at them is the level of competition they played at so you got guys we mentioned Ted Hearst playing at Georgia State and then there's other guys in this draft and let's got take his guy and
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: But does the level of competition play a huge role?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I guess you're going to knock off around or to probably on him where he, if he produced the same at an SEC school as they did at their lower level school, you may be a first round pick, no doubt her, but given the production was at the lower echelon in college, how much does that factor into how much you like a guy?
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: it's tough because I think.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it definitely, yeah, it definitely affects a little bit.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_00]: It can take a little bit off your game if you're not playing in the power for conferences or if you're playing at no offense again, Scott to Toledo to another Max school.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't we don't, you know, we love some good action, but at the end of the day, there's a reason that people.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_00]: get excited about action and it's not because it's good football.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome football.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's awesome.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's not good, but it's awesome.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: What do you mean?
- 50:13[SPEAKER_02]: We're also going to find people leaving at half time to go drink more beer and then come back into the stadium and the punter thrown it over his head to the kicker and it gets returned the other way or a team, not scoring for an entire game when you have them to score over two and a half points in the
- 50:31[SPEAKER_02]: and return it for a touchdown and they review it and it's very clearly a good fumble and a touchdown and you come back and the ref blew his whistle for no reason so there's no touchdown and then they don't score and you lose your bet.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: We're also going to find that on a Tuesday and some goddamn action.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm just saying it is definitely but we're just seeing it.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: You've seen it now.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_00]: You've just scored open the game.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: So just a little bit of life feedback there.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: This was a big conversation when Tray Lance was getting drafted of fall, he didn't play at the highest level.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't play anybody, it was COVID.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like 12 games.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what I'm saying is he didn't play at a high level school.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a conversation so it definitely can affect you, but like there's a guy playing a guy's from most like smaller schools that I've ended up loving I mean even very rice.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, you're really all the best one of the best I got on my piano on the back of my phone there will clear Mac one to you be you know, there's a little action for you to see God.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so yeah, like you can get great players.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, it's always going to come down to how you look on the film.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_00]: No matter what, if you look like a player that's going to be able to make an impact at the next level, you have either have it or you don't.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_00]: And, um, you know, might be a little bit more of a risk.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: I guess if you're going for a lower school, but at the same time, I think NFL teams just if you're looking good on film, you're looking gun on film.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you decide to pass on it and it's a great player because if you lower school, that's on you.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: For me, let less so, like if you're playing good football and you have the traits, can teach you everything else.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_02]: I played division three sports.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_02]: When I was at St. Lawrence, we played against two guys who went on to start in the NFL for a long time.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_02]: Andrew Franks, the kicker for the Dolphins and Ali Marpet, second round pick of the box.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: And he started for them on the Superbowls.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_02]: And the NFL for a long time.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_02]: And NFL guys can come from all over.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_02]: I would look at them, like, under, like, more of a microscope than a guy who was playing in the SEC, because, you know, he's playing against NFL town every Saturday, but if there's a guy who has the traits and he's playing well at the FCS level, I don't think that they're not even talking, like, the Mac, the Sunbell, like other FBS conferences, like those, like, very much less, so I'm talking,
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: like D2D3 or D2D3OS, so but like like Bryce Lance, he's a guy I talked about on the show earlier.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: He's from North Dakota State where a lot of NFL guys have come out of.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_02]: Tray Lance, Carson Wenz, a whole lot of starting lineman in the NFL and Christian Watson.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_02]: The number one receiver for the Packers went to North Dakota State.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of talents come out of that school.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's fast.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_02]: He ran.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was in the low four threes for his 40.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_02]: And he's a guy who you can probably get in the fourth round, maybe the fifth, like an early day three pick.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot of really good value there.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of really good football players at that level.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_02]: I have a couple of buddies who are playing FCS football and one of them went to Ole Miss first and you would
- 53:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not playing enough, so now I'm going to go to South Dakota, he's playing.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a lot of, especially with the transfer portal.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of these guys are, guys, you went to bigger schools and had the high school accolades, but they weren't playing as much as they wanted.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_02]: They got a chunk of change to go to an FCS school, and they're there.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_02]: So especially with the transfer portal, and that I think there's going to be a lot of talent that comes from these schools, because maybe they're a late bloomers.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: I like a quaglar basketball example, but the guy for Illinois, he was a three-star
- 54:01[SPEAKER_02]: And now he's going to be a top 10 pick in this year's draft and he led them to the final four with him and all of his bulk in friends.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_02]: So there's talent at all levels.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_02]: You just got to be good enough to find it.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: Right on well now it's time for the most exciting segment of the show.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: Ben's world famous around the league segment.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_01]: Take it away Benjamin Schupe.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_00]: Not an major wrongly this week, but some good little topics.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_00]: Not going to go over each one individually, I'm just going to read these one and read a good list for Lance and he loves that and he's going to pick which one he will just want to say a little thing about if there's any of them that catch his eye so first on Buffalo bills legend Stefan Gilmore has retired from the NFL after 13 season Super Bowl champ defensive player the year.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: multiple times all pro phenomenal career for him obviously was not too liked when he was leaving Buffalo with his old uh...
- 55:06[SPEAKER_00]: little hate about playing on national television and never be now we get the opportunity to do that in Buffalo, do not rub or do not really hit people with the best in Buffalo.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, you retired another one, old Buffalo Bill as well.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle, you're Elon is signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_00]: So interesting move there obviously has helped the Chiefs before while being on the bills.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe he can help the bills while being on the Chiefs now.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: Kirk Cousins, signing in Las Vegas, who knows the plan right now on who's going to start Requon, Cousins, or Mendoza, either way, it's basically a one-year deal for him and Vegas, good little mentor there, no matter what they do with Mendoza, Falcons and Ville of New Uniforms, if you want to go check them out, I don't know if you'd try them, so if you guys just have seen them in one of your, say your opinion you can, not a part of it for her, you'd
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: NFL star receiver obviously for the Rams enters rehab after a kind of a interesting few months from with plenty of drama around him not going to go through all of it because it is a lot and then the last but not least our guy Josh Allen is officially a parent and officially a girl dad as they announced the today.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: that Josh and Haley have had their baby girl.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: So congrats to them.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: Lance, anything out of those that really kind of catch your eye, get your ear.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, congrats.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was seeking grads to Josh and Haley on welcoming a new member to their family, always great.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: But for me, just the thing that hits home is a little bit for it, you know, Puka.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: And Kua, I hope he obviously gets himself right.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm five years sober and it's not a easy thing to do, but it's worth it.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I hope that he can do what he needs to do and rehab to get himself to a point
- 57:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, function back again and be, you know, a great athlete that can be a great role model for young folks.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_02]: It may be he'll get to hang out with Tiger Woods who will give him, you know, the push to get over the edge and be a champion.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: There you go.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_00]: If you, if you hang out with Tiger Woods, you might end up going back to Georgia.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: If you hang out long enough with Tiger.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_01]: So this is not rolling cars to be a wrap.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_02]: Just the master.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_02]: This is next week.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, that's not, it's not, it's not, it's not on the league, man.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_02]: You said back to Georgia.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I was in Georgia University, come on.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_00]: I know you're that bad.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_02]: I was messing with you.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to choose to talk about Stefan Gilmore because he was a bill for a while and he was solid and then he went to the Patriots and kind of took his game for the next level.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_02]: One defense player the year absolutely got cooked by John Brown on that Saturday night game around Christmas time in 2019 when the bills went to the playoffs and lost to the
- 58:06[SPEAKER_02]: the Texans, but here's a stata, our guy sneaky Joe tweeted out.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_02]: So on Gilmore is one of 31 players in NFL history to have one DPOY, two all pros in five plus probals, of those 31, all but two were in the Hall of Fame that are eligible so far.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_02]: And that's James Harrison, he probably gets eventually in Pat's swimming.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_02]: So it's tovon Gilmore, a Hall of Famer to you guys with those stats.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_02]: kind of doesn't feel like he is, but when you look at that, like how how couldn't he not be?
- 58:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's also crazy that he didn't do any of that in his first five years in Buffalo.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe a couple of probals, what definitely wasn't all pro and obviously not the DPOY.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 58:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's just because people couldn't see him on TV.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why once everyone could see him on TV, when he went to the Patriots, that was this comment.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you're a work familiar with it.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: Well, to be honest, that he has no super wrong.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_00]: No, at the time it wasn't, you know.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's still not like, yeah, I've got people vote for who they watched.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_02]: He's voted like, you see some of the highs in the voters.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_02]: I know, it's just a college.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it is.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_02]: More possibly Hall of Famer.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think like you said it's hard to say now.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think part of it is like he's never besides the really that one comment about playing on TV.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's not in the news.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a huge loud mouth showborder.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: He goes out does his job and that's it and you know sometimes that Especially at a position like corner where you don't want to hear the name.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to hear their corners name call the lot.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: Some people just don't realize then how good somebody is because they're not their names not being called.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I know people all the time used to how, well, even like, Darrell Reedus.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_00]: Darrell Reedus didn't have a lot of interceptions.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: So he wasn't popular like he a lot of people did he had a good amount, but like compared to he wasn't like known for getting picks he was known for your receiver is not going to touch the ball and not even like put the fear of even throw on the ball his way into quarterbacks.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not always the best to hear their names a lot and I think you know some people probably just didn't hear Gilmour's name as much because he wasn't getting cooked as much unless it's drowned around.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_02]: Or the best spot to be as a corner, the non-diasse and the champ alien at the end where people think you're good.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_02]: So they don't think about throwing to you and then they don't realize that you're not.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so I'll scarred you.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he's easy, he's easy, he's all right.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_00]: Just not as good as people think he's.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that maybe I'm not a good judge of wholefamers, I don't think I'd
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think of Gilmore as that caliber, but with what you just put forth, I guess how could you say no as, as you said, but I know it was a Hall of Famer in your book, all my crew put during it, Junior.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, the thing about that, I didn't know who all more from the wire was.
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_02]: Never heard it all more little, neither of these two.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_02]: Both of them got to watch the wire.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got to get down the wire.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I, wow, wow, was I even born when I came out, were you to come out?
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_02]: uh... came out out to oh yeah one year old right full seven uh... it's not like i was seven when it came out i've still seen it seven eight i didn't watch it when it came out i watched it like last year and i just rewatched i was a soft and nice morning came out or i was off when i was going to came out so i think what's up i don't know i'm still watching you know it's a little cartoon isn't going
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_01]: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, boy meets world, you know, what are you gonna do?
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_01]: All right, folks, while we appreciate you sticking along with us for an hour here that will do it for our show a couple weeks out from the draft now, getting excited a few weeks out, excuse me, three weeks out from the draft, getting to be an exciting moment here as everything rolls up to Pittsburgh in three weeks.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_01]: So until next week, we will bid you a do and go bills.
