Latest / UNMASKED with Wesley Farnsworth / EP 55 - Breaking Free: Building a life of Freedom
Transcript
- 0:00Most people don't lose freedom all at once.
- 0:02They drift slowly, quietly, almost invisibly.
- 0:06Not because they wake up one day wanting to go backward, but
- 0:09because they stop building the kind of life that supports
- 0:13moving forward. They start isolating again.
- 0:16They stop being honest again, they drift back towards
- 0:20self-reliance, and eventually they find themselves carrying
- 0:23the same weight that they thought they had finally
- 0:26escaped. That's the hard truth about
- 0:28freedom. Freedom is not a moment.
- 0:30It's a life that you build. And if you don't intentionally
- 0:34build it, eventually old patterns start rebuilding
- 0:37themselves. And that is why this final
- 0:40episode matters so much. Because over the last few weeks,
- 0:43we haven't just been talking about the behavior.
- 0:46We've been talking about foundations, the lie of
- 0:49self-reliance, the cost of isolation, and the power of
- 0:53brotherhood. Today we're bringing it all
- 0:56together. Because if you don't understand
- 0:58how these things connect, you may experience moments of
- 1:01freedom without ever building a life that can sustain it.
- 1:09Welcome to Unmasked, where we take off the filters and get
- 1:12real about faith, failure, and finding freedom.
- 1:15I'm your host, Wesley Farnsworth, and this this and
- 1:18this is the final episode in our miniseries Breaking Free.
- 1:23And honestly, I think this may be one of the most important
- 1:26episodes of the entire series because this is where everything
- 1:30connects. In episode 1, we talked about
- 1:32the lie of self-reliance, the belief that strength means
- 1:35carrying life on your own. In episode 2, we talked about
- 1:40the cost of isolation and how slowly disconnecting from people
- 1:44distorts your thinking, drains your soul, and keeps you stuck.
- 1:48In episode 3, we talked about the power of brotherhood, the
- 1:52kind of honest, intentional relationships that create
- 1:56accountability, support, and growth.
- 1:58And today we're going to ask a bigger question, and that is,
- 2:02how do you actually build a life that protects freedom long term?
- 2:07Because freedom is not not sustained accidentally, it's
- 2:10built intentionally. So pull up a chair, take a deep
- 2:14breath, and let's jump in. This is unmasked.
- 2:22You see, a lot of people in life are living in cycles without
- 2:26even realizing it. They struggle silently.
- 2:29They eventually feel the pressure because it gets heavy
- 2:32enough that something breaks through.
- 2:34Maybe they open up. Maybe they reconnect with God.
- 2:37Maybe they have an emotional moment where they finally
- 2:39realize that something needs to change.
- 2:42And for a little while, things improve.
- 2:44They feel lighter, more hopeful, more motivated.
- 2:47But eventually they begin to drift.
- 2:50Not because they didn't mean it, and not because they're fake,
- 2:53and definitely not because they don't love God.
- 2:55They drift because they've never rebuilt the structure underneath
- 2:59their life, and eventually old patterns return because old
- 3:03foundations were never replaced. That's why this series started
- 3:07where it did. Because of self-reliance
- 3:10actually stays alive. Then freedom won't last.
- 3:14self-reliance is always self-reliance.
- 3:17Always sounds responsible at first.
- 3:20You say things like, I'll handle it.
- 3:22I don't want to burden anyone, I just need to figure it out.
- 3:26But underneath all of those statements is a dangerous
- 3:28assumption, one that says that you were designed to carry life
- 3:33alone, but you weren't. That's why the lie of
- 3:36self-reliance is so destructive. Not because independence is
- 3:39always bad, but because isolation slowly grows
- 3:43underneath it. And in episode 2, we we began
- 3:46talking about that. We talked about how isolation
- 3:49quietly rebuilds change. Because the scary thing about
- 3:52isolation is how subtle it is. The isolation does not usually
- 3:57announce itself, it usually just reduces honesty.
- 4:01You stop opening up, you stop sharing what's really happening,
- 4:05you keep conversations surface level, and eventually you build
- 4:09a life where people know your schedule but not your soul.
- 4:12The longer isolation grows, the more distorted your thinking
- 4:16becomes. Your struggles begin to feel
- 4:18bigger, your fears they get louder.
- 4:21Your assumptions, they go unchallenged, and because no one
- 4:24is speaking truth into your life consistently, the narrative in
- 4:29your head becomes a reality. And that is why isolation is so
- 4:32dangerous spiritually, because isolation makes you easier to
- 4:37deceive. When you're isolated,
- 4:39discouragement gets louder, shame gets stronger, temptation
- 4:44becomes a lot more convincing, and eventually you start
- 4:47believing lies that would have sounded ridiculous if spoken out
- 4:51loud In a healthy community. Community.
- 4:53That, my friends, is the power of isolation.
- 4:56It slowly normalizes unhealthy thinking.
- 5:00And that is why brotherhood matters so much.
- 5:03And when I say brotherhood, I don't mean just a friendship.
- 5:06I mean relationships that are built on honesty.
- 5:09Relationships where people actually know you.
- 5:12Relationships where someone can ask you hard questions.
- 5:15Relationships where accountability exists.
- 5:18Relationships where grace and truth coexist together because
- 5:23freedom grows in environments where honesty is safe.
- 5:26Most people don't need more information.
- 5:29They need a deeper connection. They need people who can remind
- 5:32them of who they are when they're thinking starts to
- 5:36drift. They need someone who can notice
- 5:38when they're pulling away. They need someone who cares more
- 5:42about their growth than their image.
- 5:44And that is what real community does.
- 5:47It interrupts isolation before isolation becomes destruction.
- 5:51And here's something important. The goal of brotherhood isn't
- 5:55dependency, its support. Healthy community does not
- 5:58control your life, it strengthens your life.
- 6:01It creates stability, perspective, encouragement, and
- 6:06accountability. Things that are almost
- 6:08impossible to sustain alone long term.
- 6:10And that is what brings us to today.
- 6:13Because building a life of freedom isn't sustained by
- 6:16emotional moments. Freedom is sustained by
- 6:19structure, and that's the part that people don't like talking
- 6:22about. We love breakthrough stories, we
- 6:25love dramatic transformation moments, but most lasting change
- 6:29happens quietly, daily, consistently, through rhythms,
- 6:33through habits, through choices that nobody applauds, through
- 6:37prayer, scripture, rest, community, honesty, and healthy
- 6:42boundaries. Those are things that don't
- 6:44always feel exciting, but they do create stability.
- 6:47And stability matters a lot more than intensity long term.
- 6:53A lot of people chase emotional highs spiritually while
- 6:56neglecting daily fruitfulness practically.
- 6:59But emotional moments carry the but emotional moment cannot
- 7:04carry the full weight of your life.
- 7:05At some point, your daily habit determine your direction more
- 7:10than your emotional experiences do.
- 7:12And that is why freedom has to become something that you build
- 7:16intentionally. One of the hardest truths that
- 7:18people eventually have to face is this.
- 7:21Your environment affects your future.
- 7:24The people around you matter. The conversations you normalize
- 7:28matter. The voices that you constantly
- 7:31listen to matter. Your habit matter.
- 7:34Your rhythms matter. Your boundaries matter.
- 7:39You cannot consistently surround yourself with unhealthy
- 7:43influences and expect to remain healthy long term.
- 7:46Eventually. Environments shape identity.
- 7:49That's why building freedom often requires difficult
- 7:52decisions. Sometimes you need different
- 7:54rhythms, different boundaries, different environments.
- 7:57Not because you're better than anyone else, but because you
- 8:00finally recognize what pulls you backwards.
- 8:03And maturity means being honest about your weaknesses instead of
- 8:07pretending that you you're above them.
- 8:09One of the biggest threats to freedom is pride.
- 8:11Not pride, not loud pride, but subtle pride.
- 8:15The kind that quietly says I'm doing better now, I don't really
- 8:19need support like I used to, I can handle this.
- 8:22That mindset. That mindset slowly moves people
- 8:26back towards self-reliance. And self-reliance always
- 8:29rebuilds isolation. And that's why humility matters
- 8:33so much. Humility keeps you connected.
- 8:36It keeps you teachable and honest, and honesty protects
- 8:40freedom. The strongest people are not the
- 8:42people who pretend that they never struggle.
- 8:44They're the people that are willing to stay honest when they
- 8:48do. And that is also important
- 8:50because a life of freedom does not mean that you never struggle
- 8:53again. It means that you stop hiding
- 8:56when you do. See, there's a huge difference.
- 8:58Perfection says struggle means failure.
- 9:01Freedom says struggle means that it's time to reconnect.
- 9:05Perfection isolates. Freedom reaches out, perfection
- 9:09hides, Freedom stays honest. And that mindset changes
- 9:13everything. Because growth is not linear.
- 9:16There will always be difficult seasons, moments when you feel
- 9:19tired, when you feel tempted to withdraw, when the
- 9:22discouragement creeps in again. But freedom is not built by
- 9:26never struggling. It is built by refusing to go
- 9:29backwards, into silence and isolation when struggle returns.
- 9:34Because eventually, your life becomes the result of what you
- 9:37repeatedly build. Not what you occasionally feel,
- 9:41and not what inspires you temporarily, but what you
- 9:44consistently practice. That's why small choices matter.
- 9:48The daily choice to stay connected.
- 9:50The daily choice to stay honest. The daily choice to pray even
- 9:55when you don't feel it. The daily choice to answer
- 9:58truthfully when somebody asks you how you're doing.
- 10:01Those things may not feel dramatic, but over time they
- 10:05shape who you become. Freedom is rarely lost in one
- 10:09catastrophic moment. It's usually lost slowly through
- 10:12neglected foundations. And freedom is rarely built
- 10:16through 1 breakthrough moment either.
- 10:18It's built through consistent faithfulness, one honest
- 10:23decision at a time. So let me ask you something.
- 10:27What kind of life are you building right now?
- 10:29Are your rhythms supporting freedom, or are they slowly
- 10:32pulling you backwards? Are your relationships
- 10:35strengthening you or are they isolating you?
- 10:38Are you staying connected or are you drifting quietly?
- 10:41And what's one small thing that you need to change this week?
- 10:44Not something dramatic, just something intentional.
- 10:47Because freedom is not built all at once, it's built daily.
- 10:57As we close out the series, I want you to remember something.
- 11:00You were never meant to carry life alone.
- 11:03That's the lie that self-reliance tells you.
- 11:06Isolation may feel safe, but it slowly drains life from you.
- 11:10And real brotherhood, real honest community is one of God's
- 11:14greatest tools for healing and growth.
- 11:17Because none of it matters if you don't intentionally build a
- 11:20life that supports freedom moving forward.
- 11:23Because freedom is not an emotional moment.
- 11:25It's a life of ongoing honest honesty, connection, surrender,
- 11:30and faithfulness. And the beautiful thing and the
- 11:33beautiful thing is that you don't have to build a life
- 11:38perfectly. You just have to build it
- 11:41honestly. Thanks for walking through this
- 11:42series with me. And remember this freedom is not
- 11:46found in pretending that you're strong enough to do life alone.
- 11:49Freedom is found when we stop hiding, we stay connected, we
- 11:53keep taking honest steps forward, and we choose to live
- 11:57unmasked. God bless you.
