- 0:02Speaker 1: Life Audio.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Hey, it's Michael Foulton Crosswall Talk.
- 0:06Speaker 3: I recently had the chance to take part in a
- 0:08Speaker 3: round able discussion with a couple of media friends and
- 0:10Speaker 3: Bear Grills, hosts of the new Prime video series Chosen
- 0:14Speaker 3: in the Wild with Bear Grills. The series follows Barr
- 0:17Speaker 3: as he leads the cast and crew of the Chosen
- 0:19Speaker 3: on rugged adventures that test their physical limits. It was
- 0:23Speaker 3: a great discussion about Bear's faith and his career. Joining
- 0:26Speaker 3: me Rare, Paula Say I plugged in, and Paul Saffin
- 0:29Speaker 3: of AMFM magazine, who asked the first question.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We're so excited to talk to you about the show.
- 0:35Speaker 4: It is so good And I got to note, I
- 0:37Speaker 4: love your focus on everything. You focus on your faith,
- 0:40Speaker 4: on what you're doing and always bringing something different. What
- 0:44Speaker 4: is it that you keep in mind that it always
- 0:46Speaker 4: keeps you on that right path?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, by your kind.
- 0:51Speaker 5: I think that's a daily question, isn't it like all
- 0:53Speaker 5: of us? For all of us, I don't know. I've
- 0:56Speaker 5: always tried to pursue those things in my life, try
- 0:59Speaker 5: and keep the main thing the main thing.
- 1:01Speaker 2: And I don't know.
- 1:02Speaker 5: In terms of the TV shows has always been take
- 1:06Speaker 5: people into the outdoors, keep it honest, talk about the
- 1:10Speaker 5: real stuff of life, family, friendships, faith, you know, and
- 1:15Speaker 5: keep each other smiling, keep each other movie, keep each
- 1:17Speaker 5: other alive, and then try and finish strong and create
- 1:20Speaker 5: something beautiful. But I think Chosen in the Wild has
- 1:23Speaker 5: that it's been really fun to be able to dial
- 1:25Speaker 5: up that faith kind of chat a little bit more,
- 1:28Speaker 5: you know. I think on Running Wild, it's there. Sometimes
- 1:32Speaker 5: it's there, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's like, you know,
- 1:35Speaker 5: you kind of have to have seasons for different things,
- 1:38Speaker 5: the new and feel your way. But I think the
- 1:40Speaker 5: fans of The Chosen are going to love this because
- 1:43Speaker 5: this show has had such a major impact on so
- 1:46Speaker 5: many of the actors' lives. And I think that's the
- 1:48Speaker 5: part of people might underestimate of how transformation has been
- 1:54Speaker 5: for these actors to be part of this, and they
- 1:56Speaker 5: weren't all people of faith before, you know, really has
- 1:58Speaker 5: been like an incredible journey, and all of them arrived
- 2:02Speaker 5: on the show, you know, into the outdoors, into the
- 2:05Speaker 5: canyon lands or forests, all really honest, ready to kind
- 2:08Speaker 5: of talk about some of these struggles and battles. And
- 2:12Speaker 5: I really admire and love that honesty in them.
- 2:14Speaker 1: By one of the things that strikes me about just
- 2:17Speaker 1: sort of what you do. You're obviously in the wilderness
- 2:19Speaker 1: all the time, and the wilderness is a huge place
- 2:23Speaker 1: of spiritual encounter in the Bible. We see it over
- 2:25Speaker 1: and over and over again. I know that you're a
- 2:27Speaker 1: man of faith. Was that one of the things that
- 2:30Speaker 1: attracted you to what you do? And have you had
- 2:37Speaker 1: deep spiritual experiences within the wilderness yourself?
- 2:41Speaker 5: Well, I think I never would have articulated it like that,
- 2:44Speaker 5: but I think there's just been a magnet in my
- 2:46Speaker 5: heart that's always drawn me to those sort of places.
- 2:49Speaker 5: I don't know, I think I struggle much more in
- 2:51Speaker 5: everyday life, back in normal things. I kind of you know,
- 2:55Speaker 5: there's a connection always with the outdoors that you know,
- 2:59Speaker 5: we're designed like that, like nature heals all of us,
- 3:02Speaker 5: you know, it restores us and refreshes us. It doesn't
- 3:05Speaker 5: have to you know, it's not always like just a
- 3:07Speaker 5: spiritual thing like that. I feel the whole thing's connected really.
- 3:10Speaker 5: You know, you sit on a sit on the side
- 3:13Speaker 5: of a river with your feet in the cool water,
- 3:16Speaker 5: it's like, you know, it's beautiful, Or just messing around
- 3:19Speaker 5: with dogs on the grass or all with someone you
- 3:22Speaker 5: love through a forest. You know, these are these are
- 3:25Speaker 5: beautiful moments, and it's those are actually church spiritual moments,
- 3:28Speaker 5: you know. It's just we're so used to calling church
- 3:31Speaker 5: spiritual moments have to be in a building or saying
- 3:35Speaker 5: formal prayers.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 3:36Speaker 5: For me, it's a magna that draws you back to
- 3:38Speaker 5: the outdoors and that's where I feel the connection and
- 3:41Speaker 5: and uh.
- 3:42Speaker 2: That's where I believe all of us are meant to be,
- 3:44Speaker 2: you know.
- 3:45Speaker 3: So, yeah, you're not just shy about discussing your faith,
- 3:50Speaker 3: and you're not shy about discussing your faith and the chosen.
- 3:53Speaker 2: And the wild either. Why have you been so open
- 3:55Speaker 2: about your faith? Because I get asked about it so much.
- 4:08Speaker 5: In the truth is like I think there's a hunger
- 4:11Speaker 5: of in people around the world. I don't think it's
- 4:15Speaker 5: something new. I think it's always there. You know, It's
- 4:18Speaker 5: a It's a magnet in our heart, isn't it? Like
- 4:20Speaker 5: we try everything else, but some keys need certain keys
- 4:24Speaker 5: to fit in the lock. And I don't know, I
- 4:25Speaker 5: think in terms of spirituality, I can only speak from
- 4:29Speaker 5: my own experience, But like my Christian faith has been
- 4:34Speaker 5: a really quite strong, empowering part of my life has
- 4:37Speaker 5: helped me through many difficult moments. I try and say
- 4:41Speaker 5: my prayers in the morning, say sorry, ask for help,
- 4:46Speaker 5: say thank you, and I kind of keep it.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Simple, but I get asked about it a lot, you know.
- 4:52Speaker 5: And it's like, I think, if something's part of you,
- 4:56Speaker 5: you know it, like you wear it on your sleeve.
- 4:59Speaker 5: It's like, you know, you don't necessarily hide it away.
- 5:02Speaker 5: I'm not like intentionally hiding it or showing it. It's
- 5:06Speaker 5: just sort of becomes part of who you are and
- 5:07Speaker 5: part of what helps you. And you know, and I
- 5:10Speaker 5: think also when you're outdoors and people who talk about
- 5:12Speaker 5: this stuff much more easily, you know, it's like I
- 5:15Speaker 5: don't get asked about my faith necessarily on a chat
- 5:18Speaker 5: show in two minutes, but you go and climb a
- 5:21Speaker 5: mountain with someone and watch the sunset.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Is kind of like, as you know, you probably all
- 5:26Speaker 2: experience it.
- 5:26Speaker 5: You chat about stuff. The real stuff in life is
- 5:28Speaker 5: not just faith, but it's all the stuff that's connected
- 5:31Speaker 5: to that, relationships and dreams and goals and attitudes and
- 5:37Speaker 5: our values and all of that, you know. So I know,
- 5:40Speaker 5: I think people, I know, people ask me lots about it.
- 5:43Speaker 5: I try and be honest, I don't have all the answers.
- 5:45Speaker 4: You know, well, what you've done is have been very
- 5:48Speaker 4: very inspirational, and you've always given us something fresh. This
- 5:52Speaker 4: included you know, for the people that are looking up
- 5:54Speaker 4: to you and thinking, that's what I want to do.
- 5:56Speaker 4: I want to tell great stories and tell them any
- 5:57Speaker 4: unique way. What kind of advice would you get?
- 6:01Speaker 2: So I'm not sure I do do that.
- 6:05Speaker 5: I'm not always like I said, always try to just
- 6:06Speaker 5: follow my heart and try and like, you know, the
- 6:09Speaker 5: adventure has been such a big part of my life
- 6:11Speaker 5: from when I was a kid.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:12Speaker 5: I've got children now, what do I say to them?
- 6:15Speaker 5: I always trying and say just try and follow that.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Find what you really love and like and like, go
- 6:20Speaker 5: for it and it just just fail a bunch, and
- 6:23Speaker 5: build good people around you, and listen to nature and
- 6:28Speaker 5: keep faith center in your life because you might not
- 6:31Speaker 5: need it now. You might it might all be sunny
- 6:33Speaker 5: and rosie now, but it will help you.
- 6:35Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:35Speaker 5: It's like you don't have to force it on anyone else,
- 6:38Speaker 5: but just keep it in your keep it in your heart.
- 6:40Speaker 5: You know, this life is very humbling, It humbles all
- 6:44Speaker 5: of us. To be honest, that might happen when you're young,
- 6:47Speaker 5: it might happen on your deathbed, but all of us
- 6:49Speaker 5: get humbled by life, you know, injury, breakdowns of relationships
- 6:53Speaker 5: or struggles or like you know, it's just life is humbling,
- 6:55Speaker 5: and I think like it's a great lesson to learn
- 6:58Speaker 5: early on. As they say, man is never as tall
- 7:01Speaker 5: as when he kneels down, and I like that I've
- 7:03Speaker 5: let long ago.
- 7:03Speaker 2: To neil and stand tall.
