- 0:00Watch the Disney film Loop about autism, and this is what I
- 0:03thought of it. Hey guys, welcome back to the
- 0:05hospital or to my name is done. I have autism and I make videos
- 0:08on this type of content every single week.
- 0:10So if you don't want to miss a video, remember to hit that
- 0:12follow button to see more videos just like this.
- 0:14Okay, so I decided to watch the Disney film Loop because
- 0:18basically I'd come across this movie.
- 0:20It's a Disney short films. I don't.
- 0:22If you guys are familiar with Disney shorts, but basically
- 0:24they make these like nine minute 10 minute videos that are hosted
- 0:28on the Disney plus platform, which is It's like their new
- 0:30on-demand streaming platform. They launched late 2019 or early
- 0:332020. I can't remember which one when
- 0:36it landed in the UK. But anyway, since then I've been
- 0:38wanting to get onto the shot on those two of them on that.
- 0:40I will do a review of the other one, but for now, I'm just
- 0:42talking a lot about the film called Loop.
- 0:45Now, this film Loop takes the story of a young boy who is are
- 0:50in a canoe class with a young girl who is nonverbal autistic.
- 0:53And this little boy has to help her and go through the, the
- 0:57canoe, you know, get get onto the lake in a canoe with her.
- 1:00Go out. This is a completely animated
- 1:01movie. By the way.
- 1:02This is not real life action or anything like that.
- 1:04And this girl is non nonverbal autistic and she has like a
- 1:08mobile phone with her and she like listens to like a
- 1:10repetitive ringtone all time. It's like wolf were for, then
- 1:13she hits it and Taps it which is really good.
- 1:15Now, to me this film showed something.
- 1:16Instantly that like technology, the relationship between
- 1:19technology and repetitive stim noise Behavior to help cam
- 1:22people and see the people on the autism spectrum was actually
- 1:24very, very strong. And was actually one of the only
- 1:26times I'd seen this quite well represented in the media.
- 1:29Via the film is really soft low tone.
- 1:33It's very kind of calming and relaxing.
- 1:36Now something that really is interesting.
- 1:38Is that there's a relationship building that where this young
- 1:40boy doesn't know anything about this young girl.
- 1:42Renee her name is and they're trying to communicate and
- 1:45obviously Renee has communication difficulties
- 1:46because he's on the autism spectrum.
- 1:48And this young boy has never really dealt with anyone in your
- 1:50system Spectrum as it appears in this movie.
- 1:52And so he tries to communicate with her and she wants to use
- 1:55the bathroom. And so he's like you have to
- 1:57tell me what you want. So she gets like a picture of an
- 1:59emoji. All the poop emoji and shows
- 2:01that to him presented him on the phone.
- 2:03And when she does that, he was like, okay, I'll take you to the
- 2:05toilet. So you like get over to the
- 2:08river that the toilet here by the river would have got like
- 2:11some porta-potties are. But on the way there there's big
- 2:13reads and she like glider hands through the Reeds which is
- 2:15really Century pleasing. Like, you know, going with the
- 2:18wind and gliding your hands through that sensory, kind of
- 2:21Action. Now by doing that.
- 2:23She she's obviously stimming and getting some real enjoyment.
- 2:27I would do in this Century activity and she tricked him to
- 2:29go there. The toilet to do that which is
- 2:31really funny and he gets a, you know, I you know, you tricked me
- 2:34and all this kind of stuff which is really fun.
- 2:35They were good fun with it. And then you she allows him to
- 2:39try some of that as well. Like she tries him to get him to
- 2:44enjoy the stimming, which she, which really does do.
- 2:47And he really enjoys it. Now going to the fact that, you
- 2:51know, there's a relationship and a bond growing there, which is
- 2:52really nice showing that the communication isn't always about
- 2:55talking or pictures. It's about feelings.
- 2:57And because of that, and actually gives a real actual It
- 3:00official site to autism, and the fact that you can communicate
- 3:03with people. I just love that.
- 3:05Now, the film does touch on a few major topics.
- 3:08Now, obviously one on being stimming one being nonverbal.
- 3:11I mean, above all else. The fact that this is a, you
- 3:13know, a mixed race or woman of color or girl of color, and it's
- 3:17a girl, I love that. I love that.
- 3:18They are dead. Including people now, it's not
- 3:20just like, you know, why English dudes, you know, okay.
- 3:23No her yellow. I'm white English, gave us
- 3:26autism, but in terms of this movie, it was really nice to
- 3:28see. Now, another Layover, come in.
- 3:31This movie is the autism. Meltdowns do autism, meltdowns.
- 3:35People don't know how when people are over stimulated by
- 3:38the the sensory input around them.
- 3:40And it causes them to go into kind of like a very emotional
- 3:45state where they don't know what to do and then they kind of just
- 3:47kind of shut down but it have an emotional outburst.
- 3:50And so in this movie, this actually happens because she
- 3:52loses her mobile phone and they're playing with the boat
- 3:56and then they crash onto like this beach and and he has to
- 3:58kind of figure out. Out what on Earth to do because
- 4:01this young boy has no idea, no experience with autism.
- 4:03Basically. All he does is he just sits
- 4:05there and says look, I'll wait it out with you and I'll sit
- 4:08here and be your friend and he does he sits there and then she
- 4:11kind of calms down. She comes comes around and then
- 4:14she has this kind of almost like a nice respect.
- 4:17And that respect is unreciprocated because she wants
- 4:19to come into the boat and then go out on the boat and they go
- 4:21and play. And they go back home and it's a
- 4:23lovely story. Now, you know, this movie
- 4:26highlights a lot of insight. One of the things it does do is
- 4:28it shows from her perspective, what?
- 4:30Like being in a century over stimulated world, where things
- 4:33are a bit hazy and noises and colors are more like flashes.
- 4:35And they're very much more crazy than the average person kind of
- 4:40seasoned, you know, everything's chaotic.
- 4:42And it was a lovely thing to see because I think that more people
- 4:45need to see movies that. I like that because how else do
- 4:49you get an insight into autistic people's lives.
- 4:51There's only so much I can do here.
- 4:52Visually, when I'm talking to you on, blogging, this stuff and
- 4:55vlogging it with videos, but in terms of Disney's it creative
- 4:58Outlets, I think it was fantastic.
- 5:00I don't know who consulted with them on this movie.
- 5:02I highly recommend checking it out.
- 5:04I will leave a link for it in description down below.
- 5:06But above all else. I think that it's important to
- 5:08see. There's a few different things
- 5:09going on, a, you know, a multicultural background, a
- 5:12young girl, nonverbal autism, you know, showing that language,
- 5:17barriers are, can be broken down with other things, you know, you
- 5:20don't have to be trained in autism to communicate with
- 5:21somebody on the Spectrum, but it does help obviously showing that
- 5:24autistic people just need a little bit of time, you know,
- 5:27having that along that extra little buffer where he He sat
- 5:30with her and waited it out rather than shout at her.
- 5:32I become distressed or in other movies, which I will not mention
- 5:36to people restrain them and you know, that they're just bad
- 5:39tactics of those. The some other movies used.
- 5:41So this one's really, really good.
- 5:43Now if you want trying to create a movie to try to explain autism
- 5:46and a very, like, light way, where it's not so harsh to
- 5:49watch. It's not so emotionally
- 5:52difficult to watch. This is a great one, and it's a
- 5:54great one to show anybody who try to try to really understand
- 5:56autism, especially from a nonverbal point of view, I would
- 6:00Mend showing this to people, if you want to shoot, if anyone
- 6:02asked you to hold. Can you explain about autism?
- 6:04I take ya watch Loop, you know, it's a great movie, you know,
- 6:07so, if I was to write this movie out of 10, I did would give this
- 6:11movie about a 9 out of 10. On the reason.
- 6:13I only give it a 9 out of 10 because it didn't go on long
- 6:15enough. I think if it was a little bit
- 6:16longer, they could have Incorporated a little bit more
- 6:18into the story of more of her issues and more of her traits of
- 6:22autism. And I think that would have
- 6:23explained loads more to the viewer, the average view, who
- 6:26maybe has no information about the autism spectrum on, no back.
- 6:30Not ISM, but saying that it was a great movie.
- 6:32Disney did an absolute solid making this one and there is
- 6:35another movie which I'm going to be watching.
- 6:38I think it's called float and that's a another short about an
- 6:42autistic child and I will be watching that and doing a review
- 6:45as well. So make sure you hit the
- 6:46Subscribe. Bell notification to make sure
