Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: Texas-Tennessee, Ole Miss-Florida & Oregon-USC Headline a Massive College Football Weekend | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: We got games tonight. NFL game in Green Bay and
- 0:05Speaker 1: Liberty and Coastal in college football. We'll talk about those
- 0:08Speaker 1: games coming up. This is the next round presented by
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet here on Sporting State. Jim Dunaway, Lance Taylor,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Ryan Brown, Clay Travis with us at 1020 Central, 1120 Eastern,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Joel Klatt later in the show. Lane Kiffin in segment two,
- 0:27Speaker 1: crying towel out for Lane Kiffin on a couple of subjects.
- 0:31Speaker 1: We'll get into that coming up. But, man, we've got
- 0:33Speaker 1: a best weekend so far of college football. I mean,
- 0:37Speaker 1: you may not live up to that, but schedule-wise, in
- 0:39Speaker 1: your opinion. Yeah, on paper, because we're finally getting the
- 0:40Speaker 1: Big Ten in conference.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Which helps overall. The SEC, we'll talk about this later.
- 0:45Speaker 1: This is as good a day as you're going to
- 0:48Speaker 1: find in the SEC. Great game in the Big Ten,
- 0:50Speaker 1: not Pac-12. Oregon and USC, that adds to it.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think there's like six to eight
- 0:55Speaker 3: games you'd be like, if this was a standalone Thursday
- 0:58Speaker 3: or Monday night game, I'd.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Be all in.
- 1:00Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Four ranked games between the SEC, and that's the first
- 1:05Speaker 1: time in AP poll history, though in the ranked game
- 1:08Speaker 1: between Iowa and Michigan and the ranked game between Oregon
- 1:11Speaker 1: and USC. And you've got a pretty good schedule. So
- 1:13Speaker 1: that's the first time any conference, not just the SEC, right?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Any conference has ever had four in-conference games, all in-conference.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Top 25. Matched up in the top 25 in AP
- 1:25Speaker 1: poll history. I mean, that's believable when you stop and
- 1:27Speaker 1: think about it for a second because this is really
- 1:29Speaker 1: hard to do, but it's exciting to me. First, you've
- 1:32Speaker 1: got to have eight conference teams in your conference. Yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and you've got to have at least eight ranked. For
- 1:37Speaker 1: a lot of the history of college football, conferences were
- 1:40Speaker 1: only eight, ten teams in a conference, so that was
- 1:43Speaker 1: hard to do. So it's a pretty historic weekend and
- 1:47Speaker 1: a good time. A couple of good Big Ten games,
- 1:49Speaker 1: so that's what makes it so good. Don't you think the.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Big Ten game is the best game of the weekend?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I mean, I know we're an SEC country. No, no, no, no,
- 1:58Speaker 2: but I mean— I'm just talking about the implications and everything.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I mean, Oregon-USC, yes. I mean, the debate for me,
- 2:05Speaker 1: entertainment value becomes— Oregon-USC at the Coliseum or Ole Miss-Florida
- 2:10Speaker 1: in the Swamp. You said best. Biggest, I think, is
- 2:14Speaker 1: what you really meant, is the most meaningful or whatever.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It may not be the best game. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I would go both, though.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I think it's just an even matchup that went from
- 2:22Speaker 3: USC-1 to Oregon's now a three-point favorite.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I've got a feeling Ole Miss-Florida is going to be
- 2:26Speaker 1: a very entertaining football game. Well, it feels like both
- 2:29Speaker 1: of those will be high scoring. Am I wrong about that?
- 2:32Speaker 3: I mean, both totals are in the 60s.
- 2:34Speaker 2: So, yeah, I mean, I think it's going to play–
- 2:36Speaker 2: In the 30s, both teams.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I mean, the way Gary Patterson's defense has been playing
- 2:40Speaker 1: and the way Dan Lane, I can't believe I'm saying
- 2:42Speaker 1: this about these two coaches, but the way those two
- 2:44Speaker 1: defenses have been playing, there should be points in that game, yes.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But to, I mean, to y'all's points, I mean, if
- 2:49Speaker 1: you get a couple of 35-31 games there, that's very entertaining.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But we do have the number one team in the
- 2:56Speaker 1: country on the road in one of the toughest places
- 2:59Speaker 1: in America to play at Neyland Stadium. We get word yesterday,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think Clay may have been the first to report it,
- 3:04Speaker 1: that Donald Trump, President Trump, will be at this game.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We know how crazy it is. We've all been to
- 3:10Speaker 1: Neyland Stadium for big games. We know how crazy it
- 3:12Speaker 1: is for a big game. Now you throw in the
- 3:14Speaker 1: extra security barrier and all that when the president shows up.
- 3:18Speaker 1: It's not even an easy stadium to park at and
- 3:20Speaker 1: get to. You walk a long ways. Now you've got construction.
- 3:23Speaker 2: On that one. It's hill each way. I get Can
- 3:28Speaker 2: never figure it out, but there's hills everywhere in New England.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You're going uphill both ways? It's like you walk uphill
- 3:32Speaker 1: to get to the stadium, you walk uphill to get
- 3:34Speaker 1: back to your car.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I think there was a point in life where it
- 3:36Speaker 2: might have been cool that you're in the same vicinity
- 3:38Speaker 2: as the president, but I would think that most college
- 3:41Speaker 2: football fans are like, please sit this game out.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I've done it twice, both Alabama games, Alabama-Georgia and the
- 3:48Speaker 1: 2017 National Championship game, Mercedes-Benz.
- 3:51Speaker 2: The reason I skipped that game.
- 3:52Speaker 5: That is right.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Stayed at the hotel.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And a lot of people... said you might have made
- 3:56Speaker 1: the right call there because it was pouring down rain
- 3:58Speaker 1: and you're stuck outside.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It was icy too.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It was like 35 degrees. It was just cold enough.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It wasn't snow, but it's rain or just warm enough.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It wasn't snow. And then the 2019 Bama LSU game
- 4:08Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa, he was there as well. And, I mean,
- 4:10Speaker 1: it creates issues. There's zero doubt. Anytime the president of
- 4:13Speaker 1: the United States goes somewhere, it's going to create issues. Yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I think I was at both of those games. I
- 4:18Speaker 1: think those are the only two I've ever been at
- 4:19Speaker 1: that the president's been at. I think I am with
- 4:21Speaker 1: you on that.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I mean, if he can pardon hardened criminals, couldn't he
- 4:24Speaker 2: get this game moved off 11 o'clock?
- 4:27Speaker 1: To move it back into prime time. It's a surprising
- 4:32Speaker 1: number one versus ranked matchup, I guess, when they were
- 4:35Speaker 1: making this decision because Texas and LSU is– is in
- 4:39Speaker 1: prime time coming off of losses, but that's what you
- 4:42Speaker 1: do when you set the schedule in advance, you know.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That's right. You're going to get some of these clunkers
- 4:47Speaker 1: or games. They're not clunkers, but games being played. where
- 4:50Speaker 1: you wouldn't normally have played them.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I read that Arch has never been to Knoxville. Have
- 4:54Speaker 2: you guys seen this?
- 4:54Speaker 1: Never been to Knoxville?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Never been to the city of Knoxville.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I'm surprised by that. So he never went, I guess
- 4:59Speaker 1: he wasn't born.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, he probably wasn't.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He wasn't born when Uncle Peyton was playing.
- 5:02Speaker 2: You would think that they could get him on campus
- 5:04Speaker 2: for a visit, wouldn't you?
- 5:05Speaker 1: You would think. I mean, I know he's being asked
- 5:06Speaker 1: about this this week, why Tennessee wasn't a factor in
- 5:08Speaker 1: his recruiting, why he chose Texas.
- 5:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 1: And Arch is no longer talking at length with the media,
- 5:14Speaker 1: so I don't know that he's gone in-depth on that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I truly believe we're going to get to the point
- 5:19Speaker 1: where every Manning offspring is going to play at a
- 5:23Speaker 1: different SEC school. Like, I've got a gut feeling that
- 5:25Speaker 1: Peyton's son, Marshall, who's going to be highly recruited in 2021,
- 5:29Speaker 1: that he'll go. We were talking yesterday on the show
- 5:31Speaker 1: that he'll go to Georgia or Bama or LSU or
- 5:33Speaker 1: somewhere else like that. Do the Mannings seem like they
- 5:36Speaker 1: would want their kid to play for Lane Kiffin?
- 5:38Speaker 2: No.
- 5:39Speaker 1: They really don't, do they? I mean, even as good
- 5:41Speaker 1: a quarterback's coach as Kiffin is. I feel like... Well, 2031,
- 5:45Speaker 1: we don't know if Lane will still be there. That's
- 5:47Speaker 1: a great point. That's a great point you're making there.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Who knows?
- 5:49Speaker 2: You know, it's funny. We never... I mean, people aren't
- 5:52Speaker 2: critical of Arch Manning. I don't think people.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You mean as far as his play on the field?
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been awful. He had one good quarter, and
- 5:59Speaker 2: he's been terrible. And he's playing at the same level
- 6:02Speaker 2: as Matier and Lovett right now. But nobody will take
- 6:05Speaker 2: shots at him because he's a man.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I saw a great breakdown of it that he's trying
- 6:09Speaker 1: not to make mistakes.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And... That should have been last year.
- 6:13Speaker 1: This is a problem. Until they have to have him
- 6:17Speaker 1: risk it, that's when he becomes really, really good like
- 6:21Speaker 1: he was in the fourth quarter. The first three quarters,
- 6:24Speaker 1: he's trying not to make mistakes. It is fascinating. He
- 6:27Speaker 1: goes on the road, and he plays at Tennessee. Cut
- 6:31Speaker 1: number 10, Tyler. Linebacker Arian Carter. Tennessee, man, I don't
- 6:38Speaker 1: know how you feel. Tell me after you listen to
- 6:39Speaker 1: Arian Carter, the expectations of this Tennessee team. Now they
- 6:43Speaker 1: get to play number one, Texas on the road with
- 6:46Speaker 1: that heavy moniker of being the number one team in
- 6:49Speaker 1: the country. Arian Carter expects the place to be amped
- 6:52Speaker 1: and expects the Vols to be ready. Oh, yeah.
- 6:55Speaker 7: I expect the same thing that Nealon and the fans
- 7:02Speaker 7: bring every game, honestly.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Probably a different level of intensity.
- 7:06Speaker 7: Obviously, you know, both two blue blood teams and then
- 7:12Speaker 7: obviously having Checker kneeling in there, you know, it's just
- 7:15Speaker 7: going to be a different type of intensity, I feel like,
- 7:18Speaker 7: and I don't expect nothing less.
- 7:20Speaker 1: You got an early feel on this game here, Texas-Tennessee
- 7:23Speaker 1: coming in? Can I give him the stat that Connor,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you were out yesterday dealing with your situation at your home.
- 7:29Speaker 1: More on that later. Connor O'Gara with the stat. Arch
- 7:33Speaker 1: Manning has zero road wins in regulation. His two road
- 7:38Speaker 1: wins are overtime road wins. And not that those don't count.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And his career is a starter. And his career is
- 7:44Speaker 1: a starter. Not that those don't count. But Connor's point is,
- 7:47Speaker 1: when the guy goes on the road, it's tough. I mean,
- 7:50Speaker 1: he had to go to overtime to win at Kentucky
- 7:52Speaker 1: and at State. And then you've got losses at Ohio State,
- 7:55Speaker 1: loss at Florida. I mean, as a starter, did not
- 8:01Speaker 1: win a road game in regulation last year. His road
- 8:03Speaker 1: games are tough for him.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we talked about that some of these games might
- 8:06Speaker 2: be track meets when you look at Ole Miss and
- 8:07Speaker 2: Florida and you look at Oregon and USC. I don't
- 8:10Speaker 2: see it with this.
- 8:11Speaker 1: This one ain't one.
- 8:12Speaker 3: It's going to be a rock-fighting graveyard. The total is 56.5,
- 8:15Speaker 3: but I think points are going to be a premium.
- 8:18Speaker 3: The good news for Tennessee is they run the ball
- 8:20Speaker 3: so effectively. 299 yards per game right now, which is
- 8:23Speaker 3: fourth nationally running the football. I think that takes a
- 8:25Speaker 3: little pressure off Faison. I don't think Faison is ready
- 8:28Speaker 3: to beat a Texas defense. Could be completely wrong. This
- 8:31Speaker 3: feels like a big stage for him.
- 8:33Speaker 2: But I just think Arch is going to have a
- 8:35Speaker 2: lot of problems with this Jim Knowles defense.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And I think it's going to be a one-possession game.
- 8:40Speaker 3: And the feel I would get is it's going to
- 8:42Speaker 3: be low scoring and both quarterbacks will struggle.
- 8:45Speaker 1: This is... probably a Tennessee team trying to run it,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and then a Texas team trying to get Arch going
- 8:53Speaker 1: like he was in the fourth quarter early in that game.
- 8:55Speaker 1: You said something, Brownie, that I thought was pretty amazing pre-show.
- 9:00Speaker 1: As we were about to hit the open, Brown says,
- 9:03Speaker 1: did you guys see the betting market on Ole Miss
- 9:06Speaker 1: at Florida? And it even factors into the NFL this weekend.
- 9:11Speaker 1: The Ole Miss Rebels have a– A little moniker on
- 9:14Speaker 1: them this weekend is they hit the road going to Gainesville.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So two stats here from Ole Miss. They are currently
- 9:21Speaker 1: a three and a half point underdog at number 21, Florida.
- 9:24Speaker 1: If that holds, if they're the dog and they that
- 9:26Speaker 1: will hold, they're going to move throughout the week. They
- 9:29Speaker 1: have never been the favorite. Yeah, they're Florida from the
- 9:31Speaker 1: open in Florida and the favorite the entire time. And
- 9:33Speaker 1: on a Thursday, it would take a lot to flip that.
- 9:35Speaker 1: It's not going to flip. They will only be the
- 9:38Speaker 1: fifth top 10 team since 1978 to be a dog
- 9:42Speaker 1: to a team outside the top 20. You use top
- 9:44Speaker 1: 20 because top 25 is a relatively new invention. It
- 9:47Speaker 1: used to only be a top 20. But the bigger
- 9:49Speaker 1: one that got my attention is from Dave Mason, who
- 9:52Speaker 1: covers the gambling industry for The Athletic and 24-7. Ole
- 9:57Speaker 1: Miss and the points is the most popular college football
- 10:01Speaker 1: side this weekend, ticket-wise. That means bets, right? Number of bets.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Not necessarily total dollars, but number of bets.
- 10:07Speaker 3: And I put more into tickets because I think you're
- 10:10Speaker 3: getting more of a fair percentage.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I mean, you could have.
- 10:13Speaker 3: I've used Billy Walters before, but some major guy in
- 10:17Speaker 3: that affects the numbers that puts $ 2 million on this.
- 10:20Speaker 2: To me, it's all about ticket numbers.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, a number of tickets is an indication of the public.
- 10:27Speaker 2: The percentage of the public.
- 10:28Speaker 1: The percentage of the public. Who's really good at picking winners, right?
- 10:32Speaker 2: Outstanding.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Keep doing it, baby. So, Ole Miss, the biggest tickets
- 10:37Speaker 1: of any college game... And more bats than any of
- 10:40Speaker 1: Sunday's NFL games so far. I know this guy well
- 10:43Speaker 1: enough to know that's what his head is doing right now.
- 10:47Speaker 3: I said it on Monday. I think Florida is a really,
- 10:49Speaker 3: really good play. I think emotionally Ole Miss coming back
- 10:51Speaker 3: to earth. I heard somebody this morning, might have been
- 10:54Speaker 3: Rick Neuheisel. He was a guest on one of the
- 10:57Speaker 3: Mad Dog channels or something, and he was talking about
- 10:59Speaker 3: Ole Miss is not losing this game.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Trinidad is coming to play.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Listen, he has taught me. This aspect of it, I
- 11:07Speaker 1: never paid attention to this before I knew Lance, and
- 11:09Speaker 1: Lance has taught me. The public looks at this and
- 11:13Speaker 1: they're like, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute,
- 11:14Speaker 1: wait a minute, wait a minute. I just watched Ole
- 11:16Speaker 1: Miss beat LSU. And I'm getting points? They're a top
- 11:20Speaker 1: five team and I am getting a field goal on
- 11:23Speaker 1: the road? It's my old Miami Heat LeBron James. I
- 11:26Speaker 1: get LeBron James, Dwayne Wade in points at Indiana?
- 11:28Speaker 6: At Indiana.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Every time they were at the Pacers, they were catching points.
- 11:31Speaker 1: At Indiana? And I know exactly when people will say
- 11:35Speaker 1: that to Lance, Lance would say, you're getting those points
- 11:37Speaker 1: for a reason.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Well, the seesaw of the public opinion. I mean, you
- 11:41Speaker 2: guys remember a couple of weeks ago, Oklahoma is going
- 11:44Speaker 2: to destroy Michigan.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Michigan won't be able to score. Michigan wins the game.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Now Oklahoma is like the worst offense we've ever seen.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Dead man approaching Athens. I know you hate people that
- 11:54Speaker 3: want to top your story because Donnelly said you've got
- 11:56Speaker 3: this incredible Ole Miss thing. But I ran across this
- 11:59Speaker 3: this morning, which is pretty awesome. Pete Golding, obviously coaching
- 12:04Speaker 3: his eighth game, seventh against a ranked opponent.
- 12:07Speaker 2: If he wins, it would be his sixth ranked win.
- 12:10Speaker 2: That's more than 48 power fours over the last five years.
- 12:14Speaker 1: All the guy does is coaching these games, it seems.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It's a unique circumstance. It really is.
- 12:20Speaker 2: But half the power fours.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Auburn is one of those teams that Pete Golding, over
- 12:24Speaker 3: the last five years, will have more ranked wins than Auburn.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I mean, not just coaches. You're talking about programs. Yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 1: If he wins this game Saturday.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I'm talking about Nebraska. I'm talking about Iowa. I'm talking
- 12:34Speaker 2: about Wisconsin.
- 12:35Speaker 1: So that's if he wins Saturday. He'll have more ranked
- 12:37Speaker 1: wins than those programs have had.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Over the last five years.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Over the last five years.
- 12:41Speaker 2: And this is in eight games.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Pete Golding will be like 100 years from now. They'll
- 12:45Speaker 1: have to explain this.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, they will.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Because they'll be like, some coach will have this incredibly
- 12:50Speaker 1: difficult schedule to the start, and they'll say... Only Ole Miss'
- 12:53Speaker 1: Pete Golding coached against more top 25 teams, and then
- 12:55Speaker 1: they'll have to explain why. Remember, Jim, Pete Golding took
- 12:57Speaker 1: over in the playoffs. That's right. So it was only
- 13:00Speaker 1: ranked games to start with for him.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 13:02Speaker 1: A coach left his team before the playoffs? It was
- 13:05Speaker 1: a guy who ended his career coaching at Central Arkansas.
- 13:08Speaker 1: His name was Lane Kiffin. We'll get into the big
- 13:11Speaker 1: one out in the Coliseum, Oregon and USC in a second.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Let me remind you that all these numbers that we're
- 13:18Speaker 1: talking about can be played right there on the Hard

- 14:18Speaker 1: get into the NFL coming up in a moment. But
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's Dan Lanning versus Lincoln Riley. It is Oregon versus USC.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Here is Dan Lanning talking about what is almost a
- 14:30Speaker 1: must-win situation week four of For a team that everyone
- 14:36Speaker 1: had in the playoffs, here's Dan Lanning.
- 14:38Speaker 4: How much do you acknowledge that this is a pretty
- 14:41Speaker 4: big game? It's a ranked opponent, ranked opponent. And what's
- 14:44Speaker 4: at stake for conference, start of conference play and what
- 14:48Speaker 4: a second loss could mean for this team or what
- 14:50Speaker 4: a win would mean for this team? Do you embrace that?
- 14:52Speaker 4: Do you talk about that? Or is it just another game?
- 14:55Speaker 4: This is the biggest game because it's this game.
- 14:58Speaker 5: It's certainly not just another game. We don't talk about
- 15:01Speaker 5: all the scenarios that play out. We worry about the
- 15:03Speaker 5: things that we can control. So how can we go
- 15:04Speaker 5: out here and perform the best that we want to
- 15:06Speaker 5: be able to perform? But do we think this is
- 15:07Speaker 5: a big game?
- 15:08Speaker 2: Absolutely. Do our players realize that?
- 15:10Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 15:11Speaker 5: It's Big Ten play.
- 15:11Speaker 2: That's different.
- 15:13Speaker 5: All that matters. We don't go through all the what-ifs scenarios.
- 15:16Speaker 5: We go through, okay, how do we prepare to be
- 15:18Speaker 5: the best version of us for this game?
- 15:20Speaker 1: Okay, let me let you hear Lincoln Riley, too, on
- 15:22Speaker 1: the other side of the street. And then I want
- 15:25Speaker 1: to talk about this game. Lincoln Riley also talking. about
- 15:29Speaker 1: the magnitude of Oregon-USC?
- 15:33Speaker 8: It's definitely an important game. There's no question about it.
- 15:36Speaker 8: It's two good teams, two really good programs going at it.
- 15:40Speaker 8: It was a really big game last year, too. It
- 15:42Speaker 8: had big playoff implications and all of that. That's honestly
- 15:47Speaker 8: what this game should be. This game should have a
- 15:53Speaker 8: lot riding on it and be important. It's important to
- 15:55Speaker 8: The fan bases, it's important to college football. And so, yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 8: I mean, I think it's exactly what it should be.
- 16:01Speaker 8: And we're excited. We're excited about it. Our guys are
- 16:04Speaker 8: excited to play. It'll be a hell of a battle.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Fact of the matter is, though, USC hasn't really been
- 16:10Speaker 1: in the playoff conversation since 2009. We love to do
- 16:14Speaker 1: things like this in this industry. This is the most
- 16:16Speaker 1: important game for Lincoln Riley in his USC tenure. Oh,
- 16:19Speaker 1: that's easy. I know we love to do those things
- 16:22Speaker 1: in this industry, but this one feels pretty easy. Biggest
- 16:26Speaker 1: game for USC since Pete Carroll was the head coach.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Well, I don't know.
- 16:29Speaker 3: I mean, 2016, I know they got off to the
- 16:32Speaker 3: rocky start against Alabama, but that was a two-loss team
- 16:35Speaker 3: that won the Big Ten, won a Rose Bowl.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Pac-12.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Pac-12, excuse me. Won a Rose Bowl against... Ohio
- 16:42Speaker 2: or against Penn state. And in one of those games,
- 16:44Speaker 2: it meant something, you know, a lot of these bowl
- 16:46Speaker 2: games don't necessarily mean something.
- 16:47Speaker 1: That's my point. That was a 14 playoff that USC
- 16:52Speaker 1: really never got. They were close, but not really to
- 16:56Speaker 1: being in that 14 playoff. Meanwhile, This is one of
- 16:59Speaker 1: those games that gets you into that.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Well, he's coached 19 games against ranked opponents since he's
- 17:05Speaker 3: been at USC.
- 17:07Speaker 2: What do you think the record is?
- 17:08Speaker 3: Say that again now. 19 ranked opponents he's coached against
- 17:12Speaker 3: since he's been at USC. I feel like when Lance
- 17:14Speaker 3: asks me these questions, it's either 18-1 or 0-19. It
- 17:15Speaker 3: can't be 0-19.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I'm going to say 5-14. 3-16.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's 6-13. That's better than I would have thought.
- 17:22Speaker 2: But it's not great, and it's got to be better,
- 17:24Speaker 2: and this would be his signature win up until this point. Now,
- 17:28Speaker 2: you know, unfortunately for Lincoln Riley, if they win this game,
- 17:31Speaker 2: it could go the other way for Oregon. I think
- 17:34Speaker 2: USC can lose this game and still get in based
- 17:36Speaker 2: on schedule. I don't think Oregon can. I mean, if
- 17:40Speaker 2: they beat Ohio State, I just– That's in the horseshoe
- 17:43Speaker 2: for those that forget.
- 17:44Speaker 3: I just don't know how they're going to go to
- 17:45Speaker 3: Columbus and win that game after losing, you know, not
- 17:49Speaker 3: only at the Coliseum, but losing in Stillwater to Oklahoma State.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Joe Klatt will be with us at 1230 Eastern. 11.30
- 17:58Speaker 1: Central on the next round part of the show, Hour 3.
- 18:01Speaker 1: And I'll ask him about that, but I'm with you guys.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I feel like this is an elimination game for Oregon
- 18:07Speaker 1: if they lose this. Obviously, they can battle back, but
- 18:10Speaker 1: I just don't think they will. Yeah, the only thing
- 18:12Speaker 1: that saves it from being an elimination game is the
- 18:16Speaker 1: fact that they could still win the Big Ten by
- 18:17Speaker 1: losing this game. they could still lose this game and
- 18:20Speaker 1: make it to the Big Ten Championship. Like you said yesterday,
- 18:23Speaker 1: like Alabama lost to Florida State. That's the equivalent to
- 18:25Speaker 1: Oklahoma State. That's right. This would be one loss in conference.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Terrible losses. Terrible losses, no doubt. Alabama losing at Florida State.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Oregon losing at Oak State. Terrible losses. But in this world,
- 18:36Speaker 1: if you are in the Big Ten Championship game or
- 18:38Speaker 1: the SEC Championship game, you're going to the college football playoff. Now,
- 18:42Speaker 1: I think what we're all saying here, Lance, is if
- 18:44Speaker 1: you've lost this game... You going the rest of the
- 18:47Speaker 1: way unscathed and playing in Indianapolis feels remote.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it does.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I can't wait to see what the crowd looks like
- 18:53Speaker 3: in the Coliseum. I mean, the renovations they've done, it
- 18:55Speaker 3: looks beautiful on camera, but you never see it full.
- 18:58Speaker 3: But I would assume Oregon's going to send a lot
- 19:00Speaker 3: of people down. Tickets, you can get in for $ 78.
- 19:03Speaker 3: To put that in perspective, that's more than A &
- 19:06Speaker 3: M at LSU.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Wow.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Get-ins are $ 71 there. South Carolina at Alabama. What's going
- 19:12Speaker 3: on with Alabama fans?
- 19:13Speaker 2: $ 19 you can get in bright day.
- 19:14Speaker 1: That's a night game too. It's going to be good weather.
- 19:17Speaker 2: But 78 is, I mean, I know it's the LA economy,
- 19:19Speaker 2: but that shows there's a demand for that ticket right now.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And a 4.30 p.m. kick, so there's no excuse. Game
- 19:24Speaker 1: too early, game too hot. You know, it's a 4.30
- 19:27Speaker 1: Pacific time kick. I mean, this should be as raucous
- 19:31Speaker 1: as that place gets. Like, even when that place is
- 19:33Speaker 1: full and packed, it's not the most intimidating place in
- 19:36Speaker 1: the world to play. Though I'm told it used to
- 19:38Speaker 1: be back in the day, like when Back in the
- 19:41Speaker 1: John McKay days, I think the Coliseum was a feared
- 19:43Speaker 1: place to go. I think usually just because the quality
- 19:46Speaker 1: of the team. It wasn't the crowd necessarily.
- 19:49Speaker 2: It wasn't the rocket.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Crowd.
- 19:51Speaker 1: They've called it the mausoleum for years. We didn't put
- 19:54Speaker 1: as much. We didn't talk about home field advantage in
- 19:58Speaker 1: crowds as much back in the 70s.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Because, you know. I guess people acted differently. There were
- 20:05Speaker 1: fewer students that were allowed in.
- 20:07Speaker 2: We didn't have sports talk.
- 20:09Speaker 1: We didn't have sports talk to talk about this kind
- 20:11Speaker 1: of stuff.
- 20:11Speaker 3: But I mean, this atmosphere, and I've been to games
- 20:13Speaker 3: there before, it will be, I mean, it will be
- 20:16Speaker 3: way down the pecking order. Like the two best atmospheres
- 20:19Speaker 3: are definitely going to be in Neyland and they're going
- 20:22Speaker 3: to be in the swamp for sure. Like those will
- 20:24Speaker 3: be crazy. It's like a get in right now to
- 20:26Speaker 3: Neyland is $ 359. That's a big stadium.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And what's the swamp again?
- 20:32Speaker 2: A swamp get in. It's huge, I think. It's 198.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I mean, it's second biggest ticket this weekend.
- 20:38Speaker 1: That's crazy. All right. A little NFL will set the
- 20:41Speaker 1: table tonight. And I got a pretty interesting NFL question.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But I want Lance to start thinking about this later on.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Brown's already got his head started thinking about this. Later
- 20:50Speaker 1: in the sport state today, who are the New York
- 20:55Speaker 1: Jets in college football when it comes to the quarterback position?
- 21:00Speaker 1: You see what I'm asking?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Who is that? Keep it to the power four. I mean,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I don't need you to throw, you know, Coastal Carolina
- 21:06Speaker 1: or something at me later on. But who are the
- 21:08Speaker 1: New York Jets in college football when it comes to
- 21:11Speaker 1: the quarterback position? When we come back, though, a little
- 21:14Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin crying after the loss in Oxford and the
- 21:17Speaker 1: NFL tonight. And who doesn't have a ring that's still
- 21:21Speaker 1: playing in the NFL? All that right here on Sporting State.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Back with you on the next round, presented by Hard
- 21:28Speaker 1: Rock Bet on Sport and State. LTDNB with you here.
- 21:32Speaker 1: As you would imagine on the SEC teleconference, Pete Golding
- 21:36Speaker 1: was a little different than Lane Kiffin was. Apparently, Lane
- 21:40Speaker 1: got into a conversation about a text thread, the text
- 21:44Speaker 1: threads with coaches going on. Again, fired up that the
- 21:48Speaker 1: nine-game conference schedule is different in our league and the
- 21:52Speaker 1: SEC than it is in others. pointing to some teams
- 21:55Speaker 1: like Miami that may not play a ranked team all
- 21:58Speaker 1: season long other than Notre Dame and some others. Louisville
- 22:01Speaker 1: now with their toughest part of their schedule possibly behind them.
- 22:05Speaker 1: And he also went back to this trip to Oxford.
- 22:09Speaker 1: And this is from WAFB and the great Jacques Doucette
- 22:14Speaker 1: down in Baton Rouge who covers LSU. from the SEC
- 22:20Speaker 1: teleconference where Lane says that Ole Miss kept playing the music.
- 22:25Speaker 1: It's supposed to cut off. Any in-city music is supposed
- 22:28Speaker 1: to cut off at 15 seconds. Lane complained that it
- 22:31Speaker 1: actually went on through the snap several times. Listen in.
- 22:34Speaker 9: You know, you get back on track, play at home,
- 22:37Speaker 9: and those games happen. And a lot of factors go
- 22:40Speaker 9: into that. You know, we didn't protect really well around
- 22:42Speaker 9: them and crowd noise and– Music being played all the
- 22:48Speaker 9: way through the snap when the center's hand's on the
- 22:50Speaker 9: ball again and again. So those will help you struggle
- 22:55Speaker 9: at quarterback and false start. So there's a lot of
- 23:01Speaker 9: things to improve on around him and that he'll do
- 23:04Speaker 9: better and play better this week.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Maybe you just paid for the wrong quarterback. Why can't
- 23:08Speaker 2: you ever take responsibility? I mean, it's so old with
- 23:11Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin.
- 23:12Speaker 1: He did answer back. He said this was... Ole Miss'
- 23:15Speaker 1: Super Bowl. He did say that. And, you know, Pete
- 23:19Speaker 1: has gone out of his way of saying this wasn't
- 23:22Speaker 1: our Super Bowl. We've got to get ready to play
- 23:23Speaker 1: Florida this week. It's a tough challenge. It takes a
- 23:26Speaker 1: special level of arrogance to call a game another program
- 23:29Speaker 1: Super Bowl simply because you were the head coach of
- 23:31Speaker 1: the other team. That's right. That's why I go back
- 23:33Speaker 1: to the fact they didn't. Most Super Bowls, you rush
- 23:35Speaker 1: the field in college if you win that game, and
- 23:38Speaker 1: they didn't rush the field. It's one of the smartest
- 23:40Speaker 1: observations you've ever made, and I had not thought of
- 23:42Speaker 1: it until you brought it up. I said one up.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I didn't say the only one. I had not thought
- 23:45Speaker 1: about it until you brought it up. That probably, more
- 23:49Speaker 1: than the music, more than the loss, that probably stuck
- 23:51Speaker 1: with Lane Kiffin more than anything, that he was able
- 23:53Speaker 1: to walk off that field and not have the moment
- 23:57Speaker 1: where he had to fight off an Ole Miss student
- 23:59Speaker 1: or his state trooper had to Give somebody a forearm.
- 24:02Speaker 1: The fact he didn't have to do that probably bothered
- 24:04Speaker 1: him all night. Yeah, and probably still bothers him all
- 24:06Speaker 1: the way through the time. We would have heard about
- 24:08Speaker 1: it all week. Oh, gotcha. So tell me, LSU with
- 24:13Speaker 1: A & M coming to town, just gut feeling around
- 24:15Speaker 1: the table real quick about that one. Hard one to
- 24:18Speaker 1: figure out?
- 24:19Speaker 2: No, not really.
- 24:20Speaker 3: I mean, Leavitt's got a turnover problem, but I think
- 24:23Speaker 3: Texas A & M has got more of a quarterback
- 24:25Speaker 3: problem in general, and I don't know where they're going
- 24:27Speaker 3: to get their offense. We'll know a lot about LSU.
- 24:30Speaker 3: I fully expect LSU to bounce back and maybe even
- 24:32Speaker 3: win this game going away. If they struggle and if
- 24:35Speaker 3: A & M was to pull the upset, this thing
- 24:37Speaker 3: could take a nosedive quickly if A & M pulls
- 24:40Speaker 3: the upset.
- 24:40Speaker 1: I think A & M pulls the upset. I'm ready
- 24:42Speaker 1: to go A & M.
- 24:42Speaker 2: I hope you're right.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I think A & M pulls the upset in this one.
- 24:45Speaker 1: In the next round, the other two hours on our
- 24:47Speaker 1: Next Round platform at Next Round Live on YouTube, we
- 24:50Speaker 1: will look at pressure points in college football, and I'd
- 24:53Speaker 1: love to see how high and if it's on your
- 24:54Speaker 1: top five list Baton Rouge, Louisiana is and where else
- 24:58Speaker 1: in college football. But let's jump to the NFL after

- 26:14Speaker 1: a more perfect mortgage. Okay, a lot of you who
- 26:17Speaker 1: watch or listen to the show at Hard Rock Bet
- 26:20Speaker 1: jumped into their survivor pool to start the year. On
- 26:25Speaker 1: the show, we jumped into one as well. And didn't
- 26:28Speaker 1: you tell me it's down to just two people now
- 26:30Speaker 1: on our show? I think it is.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I think it's me and Forrester.
- 26:32Speaker 1: You and Forrester. Forrester, do you have your play yet ready?
- 26:35Speaker 1: Do you have your play yet? Do you know who
- 26:36Speaker 1: you're doing yet?
- 26:37Speaker 2: No, but I mean, I can go on the fly.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Okay. Forrester, do you know yours? If not, we can
- 26:41Speaker 1: do it later in the show. Yeah, I can do it. Okay.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I just still wonder... Get through Atlanta and Green Bay
- 26:46Speaker 1: and not be– do you have a play? Yeah, it's
- 26:50Speaker 1: Green Bay. It's Green Bay. How do you spell it's
- 26:52Speaker 1: going to go Green Bay?
- 26:54Speaker 2: It sure is.
- 26:54Speaker 1: So Green Bay for you tonight is your survivor play.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I will continue to fade Miami. I'll take Kansas City.
- 27:01Speaker 1: So you'll go Kansas City. Excellent play by you. And
- 27:04Speaker 1: the next loss. And the survivor gives to the winner
- 27:07Speaker 1: and we'll have balloons and grand prizes. We're going to
- 27:10Speaker 1: reset and keep going. Maybe, maybe we'll do that with
- 27:13Speaker 1: our friends. I'm sorry, guys. I had no idea. Arizona
- 27:18Speaker 1: was going to win at the chargers week one.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Obviously I'd still maybe be in this had it not
- 27:23Speaker 1: gone there. So here is our NFL power rating, top five,
- 27:28Speaker 1: bottom five that we do here on the show. Um,
- 27:32Speaker 1: I go Bills, Rams, Seahawks, Niners, Chiefs at the top.
- 27:38Speaker 1: LT goes Niners, Seahawks, Bills, Chiefs, Rams. And Brown does Bills, Niners, Rams, Chiefs, Seahawks.
- 27:46Speaker 1: So the same five teams, right? It looks like it.
- 27:49Speaker 1: We just jumbled them around differently.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Damn, Brown, how do you have the Seahawks five?
- 27:53Speaker 1: Because I don't think they're as good as those other four.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I mean, your team's better than the Seahawks, Lance. I
- 27:58Speaker 1: really wanted to put the Rams second, but they did
- 28:00Speaker 1: lose to San Francisco. I can't ignore that. Yeah, I can't.
- 28:03Speaker 1: It's the NFL. It was just two weeks ago.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that ended up being an ass-whipping.
- 28:09Speaker 1: And a totally different continent, done away. Bottom five, I
- 28:12Speaker 1: go Buccaneers, Jets, Commanders, Titans, Dolphins, Dead Lasts. El Tigo's Commanders, Buccaneers, Falcons, Titans,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and Dolphins. I just can't put the Falcons there yet.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Maybe that changes after tonight. How's that possible? Have you
- 28:29Speaker 1: watched them? They've scored 16 points in two games. Because
- 28:33Speaker 1: you have Bijan. and you've got London, and you've got
- 28:37Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts.
- 28:38Speaker 2: At some point, you know what you don't have. This
- 28:43Speaker 2: is amazing. And I was talking to our man Luke.
- 28:45Speaker 2: We went for a couple of beers yesterday, and he
- 28:46Speaker 2: was talking about how bad it is to be a
- 28:48Speaker 2: Falcons fan. And I was like, I went through the
- 28:50Speaker 2: years with the Rams. So the Falcons are the first
- 28:53Speaker 2: team to not run a play in the opposition's red
- 28:57Speaker 2: zone through the first two weeks since the Rams in 2008.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Mike Johnson gave us that stat on the show yesterday.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Blew me away.
- 29:04Speaker 2: How impossible is that?
- 29:05Speaker 1: One of four teams ever. One of four teams ever.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I mean, that is incompetence at its highest level. I
- 29:11Speaker 1: don't know how you can be that bad. What was
- 29:13Speaker 1: the Rams record that year, Lance?
- 29:14Speaker 2: In 2008, hold tight, that was.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I mean, I'm going to guess not good.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't good.
- 29:21Speaker 1: The other one was the 0-16 Lions. Yeah, that's what
- 29:24Speaker 1: Brooks told me this morning. This puts you in the
- 29:26Speaker 1: category with the 0-16 Lions.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Michael Penix Jr. is here to bail them out. I
- 29:31Speaker 2: do think it'll be a difference.
- 29:32Speaker 1: You can laugh all you want. I made two NFL
- 29:35Speaker 1: bets yesterday, and both of them are on the Falcons tonight.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Have fun, Scott.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I've got a play up and available.
- 29:41Speaker 1: They're not going to win a game. Packers is hosting
- 29:46Speaker 1: Falcons tonight. You get a play at lanceslike.com. How close is,
- 29:50Speaker 1: not that I'm not campaigning for my Dolphins, I just
- 29:53Speaker 1: wonder how close is your team number 31 to To
- 29:56Speaker 1: the Dolphins not being in everyone's basement. I mean, they
- 29:58Speaker 1: deserve to be there right now. Trust me, they deserve
- 30:00Speaker 1: to be there. I just, I don't even think about it.
- 30:02Speaker 1: You're going to start there all season long. I figured
- 30:06Speaker 1: out where to put everybody else.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I would reevaluate once the Dolphins win a game.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Okay, so in 2027. It was harder for me to
- 30:15Speaker 1: figure out. Who's number one than it was, obviously, who's 32.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I don't disagree. I'm not campaigning for the Dolphins. I'm
- 30:22Speaker 1: just asking how close it is.
- 30:23Speaker 3: When Kevin Stefanski took the job and Tua basically is
- 30:28Speaker 3: still getting paid by the Dolphins.
- 30:30Speaker 2: A lot of money. I just felt like this was
- 30:32Speaker 2: going to be a much better offense. We haven't seen Tua.
- 30:35Speaker 2: We haven't seen Penix.
- 30:37Speaker 3: They are averaging eight points a game, and they're minus
- 30:39Speaker 3: six in turnovers through two games.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Can't win in the NFL, turn in the football.
- 30:42Speaker 1: But correct me if I'm wrong. Tua is... 100%. Now,
- 30:46Speaker 1: I'm going to go heavy air quotes because we are
- 30:47Speaker 1: talking about Tua here. But in Tua terms, he's 100% tonight, right?
- 30:51Speaker 1: This Pinnock's choice is, they think that gives them the
- 30:55Speaker 1: better shot at winning the game. I think so going
- 30:57Speaker 1: into the game tonight. 7-15 on prime. 0-2 Atlanta. 1-1
- 31:01Speaker 1: Green Bay. The 1-1 Green Bay win was against... a
- 31:06Speaker 1: pretty bad team as well, right? The Jets.
- 31:08Speaker 2: They were down 10 points in the fourth quarter, had
- 31:10Speaker 2: to come back and win that game. And Aaron Glenn
- 31:12Speaker 2: botched overtime.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Green Bay leading the NFL right now in penalties, just
- 31:15Speaker 3: playing really sloppy football.
- 31:16Speaker 1: This is a yucky game.
- 31:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 1: One of my bets was on the Falcons taking the points.
- 31:21Speaker 1: The other one was on the Falcons, where you can
- 31:24Speaker 1: slide it and get more points and more odds. Falcons
- 31:28Speaker 1: by a touchdown tonight. Wow. And everybody watches the show,
- 31:31Speaker 1: if you're new, I'm really, really... Not good at making bets.
- 31:35Speaker 1: LanceIsLock.com for the official play. I did want to get
- 31:38Speaker 1: to an ESPN story that Catherine Terrell wrote. The best
- 31:43Speaker 1: 10 players in NFL history without Super Bowl rings. I'm
- 31:47Speaker 1: going to give you this list. It's pretty obvious. It's
- 31:49Speaker 1: talked about a lot. But I want to ask you guys,
- 31:52Speaker 1: and Brooks and Forrest, you all can chime in as well,
- 31:55Speaker 1: the best players playing right now who don't have a
- 31:58Speaker 1: Super Bowl ring. But they go Marino one, obviously. That's
- 32:02Speaker 1: always the go-to. Barry Sanders, Munoz, Butkus, who I didn't
- 32:07Speaker 1: know didn't have one, but I guess he played before
- 32:09Speaker 1: the Super Bowl era, right?
- 32:10Speaker 2: They've only got one in 85.
- 32:12Speaker 1: And he played in Chicago. Bruce Smith, greatest tight end ever,
- 32:16Speaker 1: Tony Gonzalez. Alan Page, who lost with the Vikings in
- 32:20Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. Deacon Jones, again, he was before Super
- 32:23Speaker 1: Bowl era. LaDainian Tomlinson. And then I didn't know Randy
- 32:28Speaker 1: Moss didn't win one with the Patriots. So Randy Moss
- 32:30Speaker 1: never won one.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Nope. Had that special year in 07, but they couldn't
- 32:33Speaker 2: get it across the finish line.
- 32:34Speaker 1: So that's Catherine Terrell just missing Junior Seau, Fran Tarkin,
- 32:38Speaker 1: and quarterback the Vikings to a couple of Super Bowl losses.
- 32:42Speaker 1: But playing right now in the NFL, who could join
- 32:45Speaker 1: that list? And who doesn't have one now and possibly
- 32:49Speaker 1: doesn't get one ever? Well, the most obvious answer, the
- 32:52Speaker 1: easiest answer, is the best answer, I think, is Josh Allen.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Josh Allen's the best player in the NFL not to
- 32:57Speaker 1: have a ring.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Yeah, we go 1A, 1B, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson. Oh, really?
- 33:01Speaker 1: I thought you were going to go Myles Garrett.
- 33:02Speaker 2: No, I was going to go Lamar.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Myles would be up there, but Lamar, Joe Burrow, if
- 33:08Speaker 3: we get away from quarterbacks, Myles Garrett, Christian McCaffrey– We
- 33:12Speaker 3: could look at some 49ers, Trent Williams.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Derrick Henry. Derrick Henry, definitely. Max Crosby, T.J. Watt, Jamar Chase,
- 33:20Speaker 2: George Kittle.
- 33:21Speaker 1: I mean, just listen to these names. And the vast,
- 33:24Speaker 1: I'm not going to say vast.
- 33:25Speaker 2: How many active coaches do you think in the NFL
- 33:27Speaker 2: right now have Super Bowl championships as a head coach?
- 33:29Speaker 1: Active? Sean Payton.
- 33:31Speaker 2: And I'm not saying they're the same team yet.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Sean Payton, Sean McVay, Andy Reid. Mike McCarthy. Mike McCarthy,
- 33:37Speaker 1: and that's it.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Nope.
- 33:38Speaker 1: John Harbaugh? Yep.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Is that it? There's one more.
- 33:42Speaker 1: There's one more?
- 33:42Speaker 2: There's six.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Who am I missing that's obvious? Oh, Mike McDonald. Yeah,
- 33:46Speaker 1: Mike McDonald.
- 33:48Speaker 2: So these things aren't easy to get.
- 33:49Speaker 1: No, they're not. I mean, and the truth is, those
- 33:52Speaker 1: names you just reeled off, you reeled off a lot
- 33:54Speaker 1: of names. The bigger portion of them will not win.
- 33:56Speaker 1: That's what I wanted to ask. Josh Allen. It feels like,
- 33:59Speaker 1: you know. Boy, I mean, if they don't win it
- 34:01Speaker 1: this year. It feels good right now. We're two weeks in.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Yeah. But.
- 34:05Speaker 1: I mean, he's been doing this a while now. At
- 34:06Speaker 1: some point, the window starts closing. I don't know where
- 34:10Speaker 1: are Mahomes if he's going to win another one. He's
- 34:12Speaker 1: won a few. He's two games in, and they look
- 34:14Speaker 1: like they've turned it around a bit. Yeah, I still
- 34:17Speaker 1: don't believe in them. So the Mahomes window may have
- 34:20Speaker 1: closed already.
- 34:21Speaker 3: But, you know, to win one, you've got to get
- 34:22Speaker 3: to one. And Josh hadn't even gotten to one. He
- 34:25Speaker 3: just had weird, weird situations. The way he was careless
- 34:29Speaker 3: with the football game. And the end of the first
- 34:31Speaker 3: half against Denver last year really cost them.
- 34:35Speaker 1: And here's what I fear would happen to Josh Allen.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And this is just a gut feeling. Maybe it's because
- 34:39Speaker 1: I'm a Dolphins fan. I hate the Bills. But I
- 34:42Speaker 1: fear for him that he'll finally get there one day
- 34:45Speaker 1: and it'll be built up like finally Josh Allen's going
- 34:47Speaker 1: to get his moments and they get upset by somebody.
- 34:49Speaker 1: And he gets the Dan Marino where he gets to
- 34:51Speaker 1: the end of his career and they're like, man, this
- 34:54Speaker 1: guy was amazing. Maybe the best quarterback of our generation ever.
- 34:57Speaker 1: But I'll tell you the wildest thing. I'm correct about this, right?
- 35:02Speaker 1: Elway had lost a Super Bowl. He lost three. Then
- 35:05Speaker 1: he got there and won back-to-back, right? Yes, but they
- 35:07Speaker 1: had lost three, right? But they were the last two
- 35:09Speaker 1: years of his career.
- 35:10Speaker 9: Correct.
- 35:11Speaker 1: So he ended up two and three in Super Bowls.
- 35:13Speaker 1: He had a losing record.
- 35:14Speaker 2: What's amazing is the 49ers haven't won one since 1995.
- 35:18Speaker 2: That is amazing. The 94 season, the 95 Super Bowl.
- 35:20Speaker 2: George Seifert and Steve Young, right? Yeah, and it would
- 35:24Speaker 2: take care of so many for so many guys because
- 35:26Speaker 2: McCaffrey would win his and Trent Williams and Fred Warner
- 35:29Speaker 2: and George Kittle and.
- 35:30Speaker 1: All of these great players. Brock Purdy, the great Brock Purdy.
- 35:33Speaker 1: That would. But, I mean, Lamar and Derrick Henry could
- 35:36Speaker 1: get it if the Ravens were able to do it.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Because Derrick Henry is going to be remembered as one
- 35:41Speaker 1: of the greatest running backs in NFL history, right?
- 35:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I think when you look at those guys. Now,
- 35:45Speaker 3: Walter Payton got one. Barry Sanders didn't. Jim Brown was
- 35:48Speaker 3: before it. other great, LaDainian Tomlinson, who you mentioned. I mean,
- 35:53Speaker 3: there's some great running backs. Adrian Peterson never got one.
- 35:56Speaker 1: But there is a chance that Henry, I mentioned Catherine
- 35:58Speaker 1: Terrell's top ten best to never have won it. There's
- 36:01Speaker 1: a chance Henry's on that list, that he could be
- 36:04Speaker 1: one of the top ten best players never to win
- 36:06Speaker 1: a Super Bowl. I mean, you'll remember Derrick Henry, LaDainian Tomlinson,
- 36:10Speaker 1: They're pretty close on their careers, aren't they? I need
- 36:13Speaker 1: to pull up all-time NFL rushing yards.
- 36:14Speaker 2: I would put Barry Sanders probably in front of those guys,
- 36:17Speaker 2: but close.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Derrick Henry's 10th all-time in rushing yards and third in
- 36:21Speaker 1: rushing touchdowns now. He's behind Tomlinson in both of those? Yes.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I was just wondering, Tomlinson's second in touchdowns, is that right?
- 36:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 36:30Speaker 1: But in terms of yards, Henry, he's got some upper
- 36:34Speaker 1: mobility though, Brooks, because he's at 13-230 right now. He's
- 36:37Speaker 1: probably going to get up to fifth or sixth by
- 36:39Speaker 1: the end of the year. At the end of the year,
- 36:41Speaker 1: he's only going to be behind Curtis Martin, Adrian Peterson,
- 36:43Speaker 1: Barry Sanders, Frank Gore, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, unless he
- 36:46Speaker 1: gets hurt.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I don't want to doubt Derrick Henry.
- 36:48Speaker 1: He'll pass LaDainian Tomlinson. But he's 34 years old. Yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 1: but this year, that's just the season. 32, I thought. Yeah,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I thought 32 as well. He only needs 400 yards
- 36:55Speaker 1: to get past LaDainian Tomlinson. So if he does not
- 36:58Speaker 1: get injured, he'll pass LaDainian Tomlinson this year. And he'll
- 37:01Speaker 1: be seventh all-time. I mean, he's got a really good shot.
- 37:05Speaker 1: He only needs 900 yards. to pass Curtis Martin and
- 37:08Speaker 1: be 6th all-time.
- 37:09Speaker 2: And I would be surprised if Baltimore wins championship this year.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Me too, me too. Because it feels like Lamar's window
- 37:14Speaker 1: is closed there. And I still, the Bengals are 2-0,
- 37:18Speaker 1: but I'm still not buying this Bengals team. I don't
- 37:20Speaker 1: know why. It's been an ugly 2-0. That's why. I mean,
- 37:24Speaker 1: I say ugly. I mean, I guess the win at Houston.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I mean, technically.
- 37:27Speaker 2: No, the win at Houston, they were dominant defensively.
- 37:30Speaker 3: I mean, the addition of Dexter Lawrence up front on
- 37:33Speaker 3: that defensive line has been, been massive through two games.
- 37:38Speaker 1: For cincinnati team that i'm sleeping on um an amazing
- 37:42Speaker 1: stat as you get ready to watch the nfl this
- 37:43Speaker 1: weekend um marvin harrison jr uh the team that knocked
- 37:48Speaker 1: you out of the survivor pool yes just one catch
- 37:51Speaker 1: through two games.
- 37:52Speaker 2: He's only had two targets why is that do you
- 37:57Speaker 2: it's weird like mac wilson and trey mcbride get all
- 38:00Speaker 2: their targets i understand trey mcbride but But Marvin Harrison,
- 38:03Speaker 2: he had a really good preseason, too. It's very, very strange.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Las Vegas, 2-0, gets Brock Bowers back this weekend.
- 38:13Speaker 2: But they've got to go to New Orleans to take
- 38:15Speaker 2: on the revamped Saints.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Two of the most surprising teams so far in the NFL.
- 38:19Speaker 2: The Saints are a two-point conversion away from being 2-0 themselves.
- 38:22Speaker 1: They're 1-1. Tyler Shuck leads. I think I'm right about this.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Leads the NFL in passing yards right now. Is that correct?
- 38:28Speaker 1: Just ahead of Bryce Young, same division.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Yeah, he's going to be one of those quarterbacks, and
- 38:32Speaker 3: I said this when I got glimpses last year, he's
- 38:34Speaker 3: going to have a better NFL career than college career.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Yep. And then there's the Giants, who have now lost
- 38:40Speaker 1: Jackson Dart for the season. Where would you guys go
- 38:44Speaker 1: for your quarterback? Obviously, Jameis Winston... Didn't look like he
- 38:48Speaker 1: was prepared and ready to go to the other night.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Yeah, we didn't get into that too much. I would
- 38:51Speaker 2: have cut him Tuesday morning. I really would have.
- 38:54Speaker 1: You said that on the air. Did I? Yeah.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Well, I think he's good for the locker room, so
- 38:59Speaker 2: there is a little bit of back and forth there.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I mean, Harbaugh knows what he's doing, but he wasn't prepared.
- 39:03Speaker 1: A lot of people in the NFL circles literally question
- 39:08Speaker 1: his eyesight, whether or not he, you know. The year
- 39:12Speaker 1: he threw the equal amount of interceptions and touchdowns for
- 39:15Speaker 1: your team? Yeah, but they're still questioning whether or not
- 39:17Speaker 1: But he's got that fixed. Is he wearing goggles when
- 39:20Speaker 1: he's playing? Does he have his prescription right? Maybe some
- 39:23Speaker 1: of that has to do. But I watch guys like
- 39:25Speaker 1: Carson Wentz and Marcus Mariota. Those guys came in and
- 39:29Speaker 1: they play well. I mean, as well as they can
- 39:31Speaker 1: play as back-up quarterbacks. But they signed Will Levis yesterday, right?
- 39:33Speaker 1: So that's the fix. They've got Will Levis, but I
- 39:35Speaker 1: don't know if that's the fix. It is not. I
- 39:38Speaker 1: can tell you. On the fan radio, which you can
- 39:40Speaker 1: hear on SiriusXM. I've been listening to some. I like
- 39:42Speaker 1: Boomer and Geo coming in. Those New York fans get
- 39:44Speaker 1: pissed about stuff. Whatever was on in the afternoon. Greg Harden!
- 39:48Speaker 1: They were debating. that the Giants apparently front office really
- 39:53Speaker 1: liked J.J. McCarthy during the draft process. Do I have
- 39:57Speaker 1: good news for you? Yeah.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Kevin O'Connell would serve him up right now.
- 40:02Speaker 1: You could get him for a steal right now. But
- 40:04Speaker 1: the guys that they really wanted to go get was
- 40:07Speaker 1: Jimmy Garoppolo, who's still a free agent. So he's sitting
- 40:10Speaker 1: out there. So you get him for nothing.
- 40:12Speaker 3: No, and that's what I would do. I'd give him
- 40:13Speaker 3: a veteran's minimum, and I would go out. You don't
- 40:16Speaker 3: know what kind of shape he's in.
- 40:17Speaker 2: But you know the other night, I thought for sure
- 40:20Speaker 2: the NFL made you have a third emergency quarterback.
- 40:23Speaker 1: I thought that was the rule.
- 40:24Speaker 2: They didn't have one. It doesn't count against your active.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I don't know why, but I don't know if you
- 40:28Speaker 2: guys heard them on the broadcast. They were like, Jameis
- 40:31Speaker 2: is the only quarterback they've got left.
- 40:32Speaker 1: I thought you had to have it, but it doesn't
- 40:34Speaker 1: count against your actives. But they can only go in
- 40:37Speaker 1: if both players are ruled out.
- 40:39Speaker 2: I don't know why, but they did not have a third.
- 40:41Speaker 2: They're not even showing a third up on their depth
- 40:43Speaker 2: chart right now.
- 40:44Speaker 1: It's Will Levis now. They've got Will Levis now.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Because I was asked. Oh, sorry.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I'm sorry. KS Redmill says Levis got signed by the Jets,
- 40:52Speaker 1: not the Giants.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 40:54Speaker 1: I thought we had him with the Giants.
- 40:55Speaker 2: I don't know. But, I mean, they're only listing Jameis'
- 40:57Speaker 2: starter and Jackson Darter's your second, but obviously out.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it said Jets yesterday. Yeah, it is Jets. Okay,
- 41:03Speaker 1: I always had him at the Giants.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Maddie said, what would happen if he goes down? And
- 41:06Speaker 3: I said, I've only seen it twice. Unfortunately, I was
- 41:09Speaker 3: on the wrong side of it on a Monday night
- 41:11Speaker 3: in the fall of 1990 when Brian Mitchell had to
- 41:14Speaker 3: come in for, I remember, who was the Alabama quarterback
- 41:17Speaker 3: that got the start?
- 41:18Speaker 2: Rutledge? for the Washington Redskins, but they knocked out both
- 41:22Speaker 2: their quarterbacks, the Eagles did, and Brian Mitchell was taking snaps.
- 41:25Speaker 2: The running back Brian Mitchell. The second half body bag game.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Body bag game. When we come back, back to college
- 41:32Speaker 1: football and what is expected down in the swamp, Ole
- 41:37Speaker 1: Miss and Florida. Later on in the show, Alabama and Auburn,
- 41:41Speaker 1: big games this weekend as well as we get to
- 41:43Speaker 1: the monumental weekend of the SEC. This is the next
- 41:47Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bet right here on Sporting State.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Our buddy Montel just sent us something. Remember Montel? I
- 41:53Speaker 1: do remember Montel. Yeah, he just sent us and Brooks,
- 41:58Speaker 1: I'd love for you to check this out, but it's
- 42:01Speaker 1: a graphic on Instagram that somebody put together that says
- 42:05Speaker 1: Peyton Manning's first 93 games and Jalen Hurd's first 93 games.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Manning's got him by about 3,000 passing yards, but Peyton
- 42:14Speaker 1: Manning's quarterback rating was at 87.5. Jalen's is a 94.4,
- 42:18Speaker 1: according to this graphic. Peyton had 170 touchdowns. Jalen's got 173.
- 42:25Speaker 1: I guess counting his rushing there. Peyton had 109 interceptions.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Jalen's only got 45 interceptions.
- 42:31Speaker 8: Wow.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Peyton, through those first few touchdowns, years, zero Super Bowl appearances,
- 42:36Speaker 1: and Jalen's already got two with one win. Yeah, this
- 42:38Speaker 1: is where I go eye test. Yeah, I think I'll
- 42:41Speaker 1: take Peyton still.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Yeah, we take Peyton a hundred times over.
- 42:44Speaker 1: To be entirely fair, Peyton took over a terrible situation
- 42:48Speaker 1: in Indianapolis. And how many more rushing yards does Jalen have? Oh,
- 42:51Speaker 1: he's got a ton. He's got a ton. Infinity more
- 42:53Speaker 1: than Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning was towing a piano. Yeah. See,
- 42:56Speaker 1: this is the problem. When you're the first family of football,
- 42:59Speaker 1: people line up to take shots. You do. I mean,
- 43:01Speaker 1: they were taking shots at Arch and Archie and now Peyton.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Nobody takes shots at those guys.
- 43:06Speaker 1: 28 picks.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Eli, one of the most overrated quarterbacks in NFL history. Arch,
- 43:12Speaker 3: the most overrated quarterback in college football right now.
- 43:16Speaker 1: People taking shots by saying nobody ever takes shots at
- 43:18Speaker 1: those guys.
- 43:18Speaker 8: That's right.
- 43:19Speaker 1: That's a shot in and of itself. Before I tell
- 43:21Speaker 1: you about Crockett Coffey, hats off to the Florida State
- 43:24Speaker 1: punter that was in town this past week playing at Alabama.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Daniel Hughes is his name. He's an older guy. from Australia,
- 43:32Speaker 1: as most punters seem to be. And he had a
- 43:35Speaker 1: unique look. And he posted this. He took some of
- 43:41Speaker 1: the shots that college football fans were giving him in
- 43:46Speaker 1: the second most watched game this weekend on social media.
- 43:49Speaker 1: And apparently he's got a big following on social media.
- 43:52Speaker 1: And he had this post to say.
- 43:55Speaker 2: So college football is wild at the best of times.
- 43:57Speaker 2: I get called Joe Dirt, Joe Exotic.
- 44:02Speaker 6: It's pretty funny, but this one has.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Taken the cake.
- 44:06Speaker 2: I kind of be mad at this.
- 44:09Speaker 1: It says this Florida state punter looks like a lesbian
- 44:12Speaker 1: that breeds poodles.
- 44:14Speaker 2: That's incredible.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Wait for it. Wait for it. So he goes on
- 44:18Speaker 1: his social media now and he jumps on top of
- 44:23Speaker 1: a green Subaru hatchback.
- 44:26Speaker 7: Amazing.
- 44:26Speaker 1: And he says, Maybe the rumors are true, Subaru USA.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Send me that NIL money. That's very well done. He's
- 44:34Speaker 1: got a couple of poodles with him laying in the
- 44:36Speaker 1: hood of a Subaru hatchback.
- 44:38Speaker 2: I think, unfortunately, Subaru is not going to want to
- 44:41Speaker 2: engage in this necessarily. I was watching him warm up
- 44:46Speaker 2: against SMU on that Monday night game. or Sunday night game,
- 44:49Speaker 2: whatever it was, and I forgot if it was on
- 44:51Speaker 2: ESPN or ABC.
- 44:52Speaker 1: You had the big delay, so you got to see
- 44:54Speaker 1: a lot of them, right? Oh, yeah, that's right. He
- 44:55Speaker 1: was walking around a lot.
- 44:56Speaker 2: But they wouldn't show him.
- 44:57Speaker 3: It was really like I was trying to see him again.
- 45:01Speaker 3: It was like ABC or ESPN made a point once
- 45:04Speaker 3: they got in game, they didn't really show him.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Not in game, but in that night, and now that
- 45:08Speaker 1: Lance mentions it, he was going along the side shaking hands,
- 45:12Speaker 1: taking photos, signing autographs, tossing football during the delay.
- 45:15Speaker 8: Yep.
- 45:17Speaker 1: And keep in mind, that was week one, so I'd
- 45:19Speaker 1: not seen the guy yet. I didn't know he was
- 45:20Speaker 1: the player. I didn't either. I was like, is this
- 45:23Speaker 1: some gimmick? I was like, don't tell me this is
- 45:26Speaker 1: some character from the Chad Powers show. I thought he
- 45:30Speaker 1: was like, look at this. This is like fourth stream
- 45:33Speaker 1: place kicker out here signing autographs. Fantastic. I love his
- 45:37Speaker 1: sense of humor about it. Good for him. Our friends

- 46:41Speaker 1: Ole Miss is all the way up to number four
- 46:43Speaker 1: in the country. Florida is back ranked. John Summerall loves
- 46:49Speaker 1: to work the cut. He talks this week about what
- 46:52Speaker 1: Florida has to do to knock off number four Ole Miss.
- 46:56Speaker 6: If we play like we did last week or the
- 46:59Speaker 6: previous week, really any of the weeks we've played so
- 47:01Speaker 6: far this year, we will not win Saturday.
- 47:04Speaker 2: No chance.
- 47:05Speaker 6: And so I talked to him about, you know, the
- 47:08Speaker 6: type of teams that win are tough, they're urgent, they're disciplined,
- 47:11Speaker 6: they're detailed. The type of teams that don't, they're complacent,
- 47:16Speaker 6: they're soft, they lack urgency. And so for us, I
- 47:23Speaker 6: told him, I'm like, guys, we're zero and zero this week.
- 47:27Speaker 6: In this game, you have every Saturday to be promoted
- 47:30Speaker 6: or exposed. And if you like, I'm great with everybody
- 47:35Speaker 6: feeling good yesterday till about dinner. And then at dinner yesterday,
- 47:37Speaker 6: if anybody walked around the building feeling good about what
- 47:40Speaker 6: happened last week, like I'm not like, it's going to
- 47:44Speaker 6: be bad for them because like it's, it's over.
- 47:47Speaker 2: It's gone forever. Not worried about it. It's gone. Never.
- 47:51Speaker 6: I'm not thinking about that game ever again. I'm thinking
- 47:54Speaker 6: about this one this week and moving on and, We
- 47:57Speaker 6: have a huge task. If we are not fully moved
- 48:00Speaker 6: on to getting ready for Ole Miss, this is going
- 48:03Speaker 6: to be ugly for us on Saturday.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Now, Lance, I understand the gambling side of this, but
- 48:08Speaker 1: nobody has a better resume than Ole Miss so far.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I mean, Florida, all due respect to Auburn, on the
- 48:14Speaker 1: road to Jordan-Hare Stadium, hasn't been tested like this Ole
- 48:18Speaker 1: Miss team has. So the gambling folks aside that has
- 48:22Speaker 1: Florida minus three and a half and it's been Florida
- 48:24Speaker 1: favored all along, and I know they know more than
- 48:26Speaker 1: I do, Make that make sense to me because you
- 48:29Speaker 1: can't deny that the best resume in the country right
- 48:33Speaker 1: now is the Ole Miss Rebels.
- 48:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but you can't deny this Florida offense right now,
- 48:36Speaker 3: the way it's playing. 162 points through three games. I
- 48:41Speaker 3: think it's their most since 2007 with Tim Tebow.
- 48:43Speaker 1: Brown and I yesterday did our top four in the
- 48:45Speaker 1: Heisman right now, and we both had Baugh in there,
- 48:48Speaker 1: and I think we surprised each other that the other
- 48:50Speaker 1: one had Baugh in there. I thought I was going
- 48:52Speaker 1: to sneak one in past him, and he had him too.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Is that the difference? The ability to run the football,
- 48:59Speaker 1: just hand.
- 49:00Speaker 2: It to Baugh? Because they've got so much balance.
- 49:02Speaker 3: When you look at Vernell Brown and you look at
- 49:03Speaker 3: Dallas Wilson, and then the ability for Filo just to
- 49:06Speaker 3: hand it to Baugh. And right now the second most
- 49:08Speaker 3: rushing yards in the FBS is Jaden Baugh. I mean,
- 49:12Speaker 3: this offense is playing at another level. Now this is
- 49:14Speaker 3: going to be a bigger test. But I think Vegas
- 49:16Speaker 3: also factors in where Ole Miss is emotionally coming into
- 49:19Speaker 3: this game.
- 49:20Speaker 2: It is a big road game. Ole Miss has already
- 49:22Speaker 2: beaten two ranks. I get that. But I would have
- 49:25Speaker 2: put Florida one and a half numbers a little more
- 49:27Speaker 2: inflated than I thought it would be. Back to what
- 49:31Speaker 2: Summerall's saying, I don't think they're not going to be prepared.
- 49:33Speaker 3: I think he's got the message set. You guys have
- 49:36Speaker 3: got to put this in the rear view, what we
- 49:37Speaker 3: did Saturday night. We've got to play much better. 16
- 49:42Speaker 3: penalties against Auburn. If you would have told me they've
- 49:45Speaker 3: got 16 penalties, night game at Jordan-Hare, they have no
- 49:48Speaker 3: chance of winning the game. and they still, I know
- 49:50Speaker 3: it was a one-possession game at the end, it never
- 49:52Speaker 3: felt like that.
- 49:53Speaker 1: And penalties that took points off the board, and sure,
- 49:56Speaker 1: they were able to score again after that, but you
- 49:58Speaker 1: don't always get that opportunity. Penalties that cost you touchdowns. Now, look,
- 50:02Speaker 1: sometimes you say, well, the holding penalty cost them a touchdown. Well,
- 50:04Speaker 1: they're not scoring the touchdown without the hold. I get
- 50:06Speaker 1: those things, right? But penalties that cost you points, I mean,
- 50:10Speaker 1: you just, you don't get that second bite at the apple.
- 50:12Speaker 1: As good as Florida's offense under the great Buster Faulkner,
- 50:15Speaker 1: inventor of offense in America, has been... Their defense has
- 50:20Speaker 1: not been good. And now Ole Miss is statistically, their
- 50:23Speaker 1: defense is worse. But again, to your point, Ole Miss'
- 50:26Speaker 1: defense is worse against Louisville and LSU. Florida's defense has
- 50:30Speaker 1: not been good against Florida Atlantic. Florida Atlantic worked them
- 50:32Speaker 1: a little bit on that first Saturday night of the.
- 50:34Speaker 3: College football season. Well, and they gave up 373 Saturday night.
- 50:37Speaker 3: But I think they would take that right now. If
- 50:38Speaker 3: you were like, Ole Miss is going to have 373
- 50:40Speaker 3: total yards. We'll take it.
- 50:42Speaker 2: We'll see what our offense can do and if they
- 50:44Speaker 2: can outscore.
- 50:45Speaker 3: Now, I would ask you guys, Florida right now at
- 50:47Speaker 3: number 21, where do they go if they win this game?
- 50:50Speaker 2: Because I think then it's a massive jump.
- 50:52Speaker 1: It's a skyrocket.
- 50:53Speaker 3: You pass the first test going to Jordan here and
- 50:55Speaker 3: beating a solid but somewhat average Auburn team. But then
- 51:00Speaker 3: if you've got... You know, number four coming in and
- 51:02Speaker 3: you beat them. Well, there's going to be some losses
- 51:04Speaker 3: in front of them.
- 51:05Speaker 2: A lot of losses.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so they will have some upper mobility for sure.
- 51:08Speaker 2: I mean, Michigan and Iowa are right in front of them.
- 51:10Speaker 2: One of those will go back. USC and Oregon. I mean,
- 51:13Speaker 2: Oregon will completely fall out.
- 51:15Speaker 1: You would have Ole Miss coming back at you. Tennessee
- 51:17Speaker 1: and Texas, one of those are going to get a
- 51:19Speaker 1: loss this weekend. LSU could lose to A & M.
- 51:22Speaker 2: I mean, I think Missouri probably loses. It's not a.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Gimme game for Alabama with South Carolina coming to town.
- 51:28Speaker 1: It is not. That has been proven over the last
- 51:30Speaker 1: two seasons. Yeah, so it's one of those shake-up win-mats.
- 51:34Speaker 2: I mean, could they knock on the top 10 if
- 51:36Speaker 2: they win this game?
- 51:36Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. Just when you said that, I pictured them
- 51:39Speaker 1: going into that 13-14 slot. But, I mean, this is
- 51:43Speaker 1: one of the biggest stories in college football in the
- 51:45Speaker 1: first month. If they win this game and they are
- 51:48Speaker 1: exiting September 4-0— I mean, I think a lot of
- 51:51Speaker 1: people thought Summerall would do a nice job there, but
- 51:53Speaker 1: I don't think they thought he'd be 4-0.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Florida fans are going to think they've
- 51:57Speaker 2: recapped Urban Meyer and Steve Spurrier.
- 51:59Speaker 1: We've got our modern-day Spurrier, and we've got another Urban Meyer. Actually,
- 52:02Speaker 1: it's the perfect blend of the two. He's got the discipline,
- 52:06Speaker 1: the regiment of Urban Meyer.
- 52:10Speaker 2: That's right.
- 52:10Speaker 1: And the mouth and the personality of Steve Spurrier. It
- 52:15Speaker 1: could be that they've gotten to the lab and they,
- 52:17Speaker 1: They took Urban Meyer's this and Steve Spurrier's that and
- 52:20Speaker 1: came up with John Summerall. If you had gone back
- 52:22Speaker 1: to the Meyer days at Florida and said, you know,
- 52:24Speaker 1: after he coaches, he's going to be on the desk
- 52:26Speaker 1: of one of the major college football shows, I'd be like,
- 52:27Speaker 1: you've got to be kidding me. That guy? That guy's
- 52:30Speaker 1: got zero personality.
- 52:31Speaker 3: I think they are going to win Saturday, and I
- 52:33Speaker 3: think at that point we've really got to start considering
- 52:36Speaker 3: them a threat to be one of the at-larges.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely. They become a playoff contender. In our preseason
- 52:42Speaker 1: when we put up the schedule all the time, We
- 52:44Speaker 1: talked about that Auburn game being sort of a defining moment.
- 52:47Speaker 6: Yep.
- 52:48Speaker 1: And then we all, I think, probably pictured them in
- 52:50Speaker 1: for a loss afterwards. It looks different now. It does
- 52:54Speaker 1: look different now. It feels different now. I think we
- 52:56Speaker 1: all said, ah, this team could be 3-1 coming out
- 52:58Speaker 1: of September. But here's the truth, and this is the
- 53:00Speaker 1: SEC this year. We're going to do this with every team.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Now two of your next three are at Missouri and
- 53:05Speaker 1: at Texas. So even if you win this one Saturday
- 53:08Speaker 1: and you jump up to 13, 14, you're in the
- 53:11Speaker 1: top 10 wherever you are, at Missouri is an extremely
- 53:15Speaker 1: difficult road trip for you. At Texas is an extremely difficult.
- 53:17Speaker 1: And you've got South Carolina sandwiched every week. That's the league.
- 53:19Speaker 1: But if they win on Saturday, Lance, that looks like
- 53:22Speaker 1: they're 10-2 at worst.
- 53:23Speaker 2: It does.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Doesn't it? That's at worst.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and that would be an incredible year one, obviously.
- 53:28Speaker 1: I don't know, Jim. I mean, you've still got road
- 53:31Speaker 1: trips at Missouri.
- 53:32Speaker 3: I know you guys think Oklahoma's just an absolute cakewalk.
- 53:35Speaker 1: But I'm not going to hand it to Florida. You've
- 53:37Speaker 1: got Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. That'll be a Georgia home game.
- 53:41Speaker 1: I mean, they do own Kentucky. They do, but this
- 53:44Speaker 1: is a little different Kentucky. We'll learn a little bit
- 53:47Speaker 1: about Vandy this week. And he'll be just as fired
- 53:48Speaker 1: up for that Kentucky game as he was for that
- 53:50Speaker 1: Auburn game because that's his school. That's right, yeah. So
- 53:53Speaker 1: it's interesting. Florida's interesting this week. All right, when we
- 53:56Speaker 1: come back, the Jets of college football when it comes
- 53:59Speaker 1: to the quarterback room. And who's got the better quarterback,
- 54:02Speaker 1: modern-day state of Mississippi or yesteryear state of Mississippi? Next
- 54:06Speaker 1: on Sporting State.
