- 0:09Speaker 1: request systems are on Jerry's menu for action. Liam here,
- 0:13Speaker 1: political commentator with me this morning, Liam, Good morning.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Good morning to you.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Right copa king's spending? How do you spend more than
- 0:20Speaker 1: one hundred and thirty thousand dollars over budget and not
- 0:23Speaker 1: get in trouble?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Well, the trouble she got in was was being demoted,
- 0:30Speaker 2: but without that, you know, sort of being disclosed by
- 0:33Speaker 2: the party at the time, and you know as to
- 0:37Speaker 2: how you overspend the money, a poor budget control, you know,
- 0:42Speaker 2: I mean, you know, spending more than you have coming in.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It's as simple as that. It's what's quite remarkable is
- 0:48Speaker 2: that all this has come out only as a result
- 0:51Speaker 2: of the party turmoil and wasn't disclosed at the time.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Exactly if they weren't scrapping with one another, we'd be
- 0:57Speaker 1: none the wiser, which is Yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It's pretty serious, isn't it. I Mean, like even now
- 1:03Speaker 2: we don't know the full details, we don't know how
- 1:05Speaker 2: it was resolved. All we know is that that's been
- 1:08Speaker 2: deployed as part of a civil war within the party.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What about this crackdown on leave and dress code in Parliament?
- 1:15Speaker 1: Will it Is it going to achieve anything? Is that
- 1:17Speaker 1: really the root of the problem.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Well, it's not really the root of the problem. But
- 1:21Speaker 2: what Brownley sort of seed yesterday was that, you know,
- 1:25Speaker 2: he doesn't have a whole lot of tools as speaker
- 1:28Speaker 2: to be able to directly crack down on things like
- 1:31Speaker 2: the second harker in the speech that we're over time
- 1:36Speaker 2: in the absence of other members taking the initiative and
- 1:39Speaker 2: making a complaint to him. What he does have some
- 1:41Speaker 2: control over is enforcing the rules that already exist, you know,
- 1:46Speaker 2: more strictly, and he intends to do that, and I
- 1:48Speaker 2: think they're the case. There's a case to say that
- 1:51Speaker 2: you do anything everything. And you know, what's contributed to
- 1:56Speaker 2: the chaos has been not so much incidents themselves, or
- 2:01Speaker 2: the lack drop any particular drop standards, any particular incident,
- 2:05Speaker 2: or wearing air Jordan's in the chamber, but the accumulation
- 2:09Speaker 2: of small breaches has sort of led to this atmosphere
- 2:12Speaker 2: and missiveness and that's just sort of breakdown of water
- 2:16Speaker 2: and the rules.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So when you're at school and you have musty day,
- 2:19Speaker 1: you know, and everyone is sort of a bit looney
- 2:21Speaker 1: on mufty day, you feel a bit freer, a bit looser,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and a bit more mischievous.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, look there's a reason why we you know,
- 2:27Speaker 2: we dress nicely if we have to come and meet
- 2:29Speaker 2: the bank manager, you know, when we go to church,
- 2:32Speaker 2: if we have to go to a funeral or a wedding,
- 2:34Speaker 2: how we dress as part of how we behave and
- 2:37Speaker 2: it puts you in the right mindset. It reminds you
- 2:39Speaker 2: that you're there for an occasion and what occasion is
- 2:42Speaker 2: more important than doing the people's business. And it can't
- 2:45Speaker 2: be positive dressing properly to you know, to go and
- 2:48Speaker 2: do your job as a liquid MP. Well, it's kind
- 2:50Speaker 2: of contempt for the whole of the country really, and
- 2:53Speaker 2: it's not wrong for the for the Parliament and for
- 2:56Speaker 2: the speaker ter assist on standards on the on the
- 2:59Speaker 2: basis that you know, hopefully we'll flow through it. A
- 3:01Speaker 2: bit of behaviors.
