This Fourth of July, 65 veterans found peace 650 feet underground at the Kansas Salt Museum, where layers of rock and salt blocked out deafening fireworks—a trigger for many. Organized by Passageways, the “Mission Underground” offered cots, care packages, and quiet refuge from painful memories and gunpowder smells.
