- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome Aboard to see Yukon Football Coaches Show. We get
- 0:03Speaker 1: together with Jim Moore every week on Tuesday, kind of
- 0:06Speaker 1: recap the weekend, look ahead to Rice on the Roads Saturday.
- 0:11Speaker 1: A huge win for the Huskies at Boston College thirty
- 0:14Speaker 1: eight to twenty three on Saturday, and coach Huskies have
- 0:20Speaker 1: now won fourteen of twenty. It's about time we can
- 0:22Speaker 1: say that this Yukon football program is headed in a
- 0:26Speaker 1: good direction.
- 0:27Speaker 2: And it's really been fun to watch.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I got to tell you, because I've been around a
- 0:30Speaker 1: little bit, there were struggles early on, then you were
- 0:34Speaker 1: able to get things going, and right now you're kind
- 0:36Speaker 1: of riding a bit of a wave, I think in
- 0:39Speaker 1: terms of not just the way you play, but the
- 0:41Speaker 1: emotional feeling of Yukon football.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Well, that's good to hear, and it's also not good
- 0:48Speaker 3: for me to hear, you know, as Nick Saban used
- 0:54Speaker 3: to call that rap poison, you know, and I not
- 0:57Speaker 3: necessarily subscribe to that. But I think with so H
- 1:00Speaker 3: and Mike is that we just continue to work to
- 1:05Speaker 3: the standard that we've worked towards, worked at, you know,
- 1:08Speaker 3: and everything we do, and we keep the main thing
- 1:10Speaker 3: the main thing, and all those coach cliches, because those
- 1:13Speaker 3: are things that actually lead to success. So, you know,
- 1:17Speaker 3: I think it's always been my philosophy to handle a
- 1:20Speaker 3: win or a loss exactly the same in terms of
- 1:23Speaker 3: how you approach the next week.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And that's what we're doing.
- 1:26Speaker 3: You know that one's over, you flush it, you learn
- 1:29Speaker 3: from it, You identify the areas where you can improve
- 1:34Speaker 3: and some of the things that maybe are emerging as strengths,
- 1:37Speaker 3: and you continue to emphasize those things and then you're
- 1:39Speaker 3: onto the next one.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Well, Husky's have won four in a row first time
- 1:43Speaker 1: since twenty ten. That's fifteen years. But there is something
- 1:47Speaker 1: about confidence, isn't there there a blete that develops with
- 1:51Speaker 1: the team when you've stacked a few wins together.
- 1:54Speaker 2: You went buff, you pull fire, you win.
- 1:57Speaker 1: At Boston College, where that hasn't happened in you con
- 2:02Speaker 1: football history. I mean, you're doing some things that I
- 2:05Speaker 1: think the players start going, hey, wait any anywhere time ready.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I think that confidence comes from the work that you
- 2:15Speaker 3: put in, from the attention to detail, the focus, the
- 2:20Speaker 3: discipline you work with.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And you know the important thing is that you recognize
- 2:26Speaker 2: that it's led to some success.
- 2:28Speaker 3: And you you embrace it and you go even harder,
- 2:32Speaker 3: you know. But I think that anytime that you're emphasizing
- 2:36Speaker 3: certain things and then there's some dividends being paid, that
- 2:41Speaker 3: it reinforces those things for you, you know. And so
- 2:45Speaker 3: rather than just saying, hey, it's happened, and why is
- 2:47Speaker 3: it happening? And we've got to continue to make sure
- 2:49Speaker 3: that these are the things that we emphasize. And if
- 2:51Speaker 3: we continue to emphasize them and get ourselves ready to
- 2:53Speaker 3: go on Saturday, we should be able to go out
- 2:55Speaker 3: and play with great confidence and certainty and cut it
- 2:57Speaker 3: loose and make plays. But it's all in the work
- 2:59Speaker 3: that you do, in the mindset that you create, and
- 3:02Speaker 3: we just have to be diligent about making sure that
- 3:05Speaker 3: that remains our focus.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Yukon scored first at Boston College, had a lead first half,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and then late and a half Eagles rallied to take
- 3:15Speaker 1: a lead to the locker room. And that's where I
- 3:16Speaker 1: want to go with this. You go to a locker room,
- 3:19Speaker 1: and you've been in a thousand of them. I've been
- 3:21Speaker 1: in a few too. You have x amount of time
- 3:23Speaker 1: to do things to adjust. The Eagles ran for a
- 3:27Speaker 1: buck fifty two in the first half only thirty nine
- 3:30Speaker 1: in the second half. What kind of adjustments do you
- 3:33Speaker 1: have time to make to kind of square that away
- 3:36Speaker 1: and get it turned around.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Well, a couple things. You know, that's not how you
- 3:40Speaker 3: want into half. Certainly, you know we couldn't we couldn't
- 3:43Speaker 3: convert on third.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Down and offense.
- 3:44Speaker 3: We gave them the ball, we had them backed up
- 3:46Speaker 3: first and twenty five. You know, in my mind, we're
- 3:50Speaker 3: going to go in with either a four point leader
- 3:51Speaker 3: or a one point lead because we're going to hold
- 3:53Speaker 3: into a field goal. And then they hit us on
- 3:54Speaker 3: that touchdown. You know, hell a throw very well executed
- 3:57Speaker 3: by them. We can be better. We will be better.
- 4:01Speaker 3: But I always impressed with the way our players responded
- 4:04Speaker 3: in the locker room, like there was no panic, No
- 4:08Speaker 3: one's pointing fingers. Uh, you know, no one was getting upset.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Everyone was very calm and focused, and our coaches got
- 4:14Speaker 3: together and you know, you're making adjustments all through the game.
- 4:18Speaker 2: But now, Mike, what's interesting.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Is with that with the iPad that we're able to use,
- 4:23Speaker 3: we can have actually have TVs set up in our
- 4:26Speaker 3: locker room and we can go back and watch plays
- 4:29Speaker 3: at halftime.
- 4:30Speaker 2: That happened in the first half where you couldn't do that.
- 4:32Speaker 3: So you know, you can have a mini film session,
- 4:35Speaker 3: so there are some things now you can do at
- 4:37Speaker 3: halftime that you couldn't do in the past.
- 4:39Speaker 2: That really helped.
- 4:40Speaker 3: But we were able to, you know, make some adjustments
- 4:43Speaker 3: into our players credit. They are smart guys who care,
- 4:46Speaker 3: and so they were able to implement those adjustments we
- 4:48Speaker 3: made and we went out and we and we.
- 4:50Speaker 2: We played better in the second half.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Certainly when you get the lead, which we were able
- 4:54Speaker 3: to get at the start of the second half with
- 4:56Speaker 3: that great drive by our offense, you know, and time
- 4:58Speaker 3: starts to tick, it's harder for a team to run
- 5:00Speaker 3: the ball. They have to throw up more and then
- 5:02Speaker 3: we could kind of pin our ears back and go
- 5:04Speaker 3: after them a little bit in terms of the pass rush.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Seven sacks for the Huskies in the ballgame, Jim Mora
- 5:10Speaker 1: with us on Mike Crispino. Most points by a Husky
- 5:15Speaker 1: team against the Power Conference team since twenty eleven when
- 5:19Speaker 1: they beat Rutgers forty to twenty two. So we got
- 5:21Speaker 1: to go offense here, coach, you got Joe Finano having
- 5:25Speaker 1: a nice year. Only guy in the country with fifteen
- 5:28Speaker 1: hundred yards throwing without an interception, it goes for four
- 5:32Speaker 1: tds in the game at BC. When the offense is
- 5:35Speaker 1: running like that three point fifty five he threw four,
- 5:38Speaker 1: you have your choice. You could run, you could pass right.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I mean, it's kind of fun because you have options.
- 5:45Speaker 3: You know, that's what you want is that's you know,
- 5:47Speaker 3: keeping people off balance on defense and not letting them
- 5:53Speaker 3: zero in on what you're trying to do offensively, keeping
- 5:56Speaker 3: them you know, off a rhythm as you find your rhythm.
- 5:58Speaker 3: And so you and I have talked about this a lot.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Just balance on offense to me means you're if you're
- 6:03Speaker 3: in a gamer, you have to be able to throw.
- 6:04Speaker 2: It to win.
- 6:05Speaker 3: You can throw it to win, and if it's a
- 6:06Speaker 3: game that demands that you run it to win, you
- 6:08Speaker 3: can run it to win. And you know, we're building
- 6:11Speaker 3: towards that. That's a goal of ours every week. But
- 6:15Speaker 3: it's also a way to keep a defense, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 3: maybe off rhythm a little bit, you know, breaking some
- 6:20Speaker 3: tendencies that maybe you have, you know, throwing it when
- 6:22Speaker 3: they think you're going to run it, and run it
- 6:23Speaker 3: when they think you're going to throw it. So I
- 6:25Speaker 3: think that coach Samus and that staff, they do a
- 6:28Speaker 3: great job of game planning. I think they do a
- 6:30Speaker 3: great job of adjusting during the game. And then, like
- 6:33Speaker 3: I said about our defensive players, our offensive players the
- 6:35Speaker 3: same way. They're very, very smart, and they're very they
- 6:40Speaker 3: have really good football intelligence as well as just being
- 6:43Speaker 3: intelligent young men, and they care and they study and
- 6:46Speaker 3: they're able to adapt to what we want to do,
- 6:49Speaker 3: and we've just got to keep cultivating that.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Jim Moore, willis that you count football Coaches show.
- 6:55Speaker 1: We'll talk to Lee Malette a little bit later on
- 6:58Speaker 1: out of the secondary, and then you spareno and a
- 7:00Speaker 1: couple of TVs. We'll talk to coach about him too
- 7:03Speaker 1: when we return in just a moment on Lar Fields
