  SPEAKER_03: Welcome back.
• 0:37
  SPEAKER_03: What's up, everyone?
• 0:38
SPEAKER_03: And welcome back to the show, Mr.
• 0:40
  SPEAKER_03: Jake Spangler.
• 0:41
  SPEAKER_03: What's up, brother?
• 0:42
SPEAKER_09: Jason, good to hear from your brother.
• 0:44
  SPEAKER_09: Been a little bit.
• 0:45
SPEAKER_09: Looking forward to seeing you here before the end of summer so we can get everything done for December.
• 0:50
  SPEAKER_03: Yep.
• 0:51
SPEAKER_09: For the Dead Bear Past.
• 0:52
SPEAKER_03: I'm looking forward to that.
• 0:54
SPEAKER_03: It seems like every time I turn around, there's new information and new goodies coming.
• 0:58
SPEAKER_03: So I'm excited about that shoot.
• 1:00
SPEAKER_03: Hey, listen, we do have a lot to cover here on this intro before we get rolling on the show.
• 1:05
SPEAKER_03: Want to let everybody know Big Frig Coolers, uh, they're made in South Dakota.
• 1:10
SPEAKER_03: They have partnered with Midway USA, which is how I met them, and now they're doing kind of like white label stuff.
• 1:16
SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean, Jake?
• 1:18
  SPEAKER_08: Yep.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_03: And uh we're gonna have um big frig coolers available on our swag link.
• 1:24
SPEAKER_03: If you go get you a t-shirt or a hot or whatever, you can get you a cooler or a tumbler.
• 1:30
SPEAKER_03: These things perform as good, if not better, than the competitors, like the big brands.
• 1:35
SPEAKER_03: But I think what separates them the most is you know their customer service.
• 1:39
SPEAKER_03: And you you know how I'm big on that, Jake, with any of our sponsors here.
• 1:43
SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're they're really good, really good to work with, and they support youth shooting.
• 1:48
SPEAKER_03: So, for example, if you buy a cooler from them, you can automatically uh during checkout, you can assign which youth shooting team you'd like to allocate.
• 1:58
SPEAKER_03: The 10% of your purchase goes to, and then Midway USA matches that.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_03: So 20% of your purchase is actually going to the youth uh shooting team endowment of your choice.
• 2:07
SPEAKER_03: But these things are really cool, man, and they're true to their size.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_03: You know, if you order a 20-quirt cooler, you're gonna get a 20-quirt cooler.
• 2:14
  SPEAKER_03: So, really cool stuff.
• 2:15
  SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to show everybody.
• 2:16
SPEAKER_03: We're gonna have a video coming out soon with all of that, but good, genuine people behind the product and you know, the the integrity that they have.
• 2:25
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I listen, there's there's a bazillion cooler manufacturers out there and tumbler manufacturers, but I'm telling you, these people are awesome, and what they have, what they offer is really cool.
• 2:36
  SPEAKER_03: So check it out.
• 2:37
SPEAKER_03: Hey, speaking of Midway USA Foundation, uh again, I want to remind everyone, as you know, this is the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, and the perfect way to honor this amazing country is to make a$250 donation to your favorite youth shooting team through our partner, Midway USA.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_03: And that donation is going to be matched.
• 2:59
SPEAKER_03: So that means$500 towards that team's endowment.
• 3:02
SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is a great way to help secure the future of youth shooting sports.
• 3:06
SPEAKER_03: Go right down in the show description, click on the link to Midway USA and make a donation.
• 3:11
SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you, it's money well spent.
• 3:13
SPEAKER_03: Do you want to let everybody know, if you haven't heard by now, our YouTube is down.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_03: Uh, we've been uh I'm just I'm not gonna dive into it.
• 3:22
SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna, I'm gonna take the high road on it.
• 3:24
SPEAKER_03: But we've been taken down and uh we now have Patreon.
• 3:28
SPEAKER_03: Um it's free to sign up.
• 3:30
SPEAKER_03: I'll put a link down in the show description.
• 3:32
SPEAKER_03: Um, it's a free membership and there's gonna be all the goodies there.
• 3:35
SPEAKER_03: You're not only gonna get the show there, but you're also gonna see videos.
• 3:38
SPEAKER_03: Um, we're gonna have links to different stuff like the swag and all that.
• 3:42
SPEAKER_03: And then also if you sign up and pay, if you're a paying member, it's five bucks a month.
• 3:47
SPEAKER_03: You don't have to pay to access everything.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_03: But if you want to be a paying member, five dollars a month, less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks, when we do the scoops live, you will be able to not only be part of the chat, but also we're gonna have a call in line that you'll have access to that number and you can be part of the show.
• 4:06
SPEAKER_03: Those that don't pay, the show will be available 24 hours later.
• 4:09
SPEAKER_03: So, but if you want to be part of the live scoops that we're gonna do, you can be a paying member and you're gonna get access to all of that.
• 4:15
SPEAKER_03: Also, early releases on podcasts, early releases on videos.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_03: So there's a there's a couple cool perks there for paying members.
• 4:24
SPEAKER_03: You know, JTEC is building our new website, which we're gonna have a quick interview with Josh Reynolds here from JTech.
• 4:30
SPEAKER_03: But until that's up and running, we're kind of focusing a little bit about Patreon.
• 4:34
SPEAKER_03: We're still gonna be on all the typical podcast outlets, right?
• 4:37
SPEAKER_03: So Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podchaser, all of them that we've always been on.
• 4:41
SPEAKER_03: It's just we lost that YouTube entity.
• 4:43
SPEAKER_03: So um, we do have a tourney talk real quick to get to, Jake.
• 4:46
  SPEAKER_03: You ready for that?
• 4:48
  SPEAKER_03: Let's do it, Chase.
• 4:49
  SPEAKER_02: It's Tourney Talk.
• 4:54
SPEAKER_02: Brought to you by Scorechaser.

SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think the attendees are gonna be in for a pleasant surprise.

SPEAKER_09: And you and you know me.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's all it's experience top to bottom, right?
• 5:57
  SPEAKER_09: It's important.
• 5:58
SPEAKER_09: We're not gonna stop with targets, we're not gonna stop with giveaways.
• 6:01
SPEAKER_09: It'll be experience top to bottom.

SPEAKER_03: By the way, Jake, you showed me the food bill.
• 6:16
SPEAKER_03: Um, there goes us making any money on this shoot, but you didn't tell me what they're serving.
• 6:21
SPEAKER_03: Do you know what they're gonna do for dinners and lunches and all that stuff?
• 6:24
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm keeping I'm keeping that close to the chest, Jace.
• 6:26
SPEAKER_09: You know how I do with food.
• 6:28
SPEAKER_09: It's gotta be the wow factor's gotta be there.
• 6:30
SPEAKER_03: But you you you can't even tell me.
• 6:33
  SPEAKER_09: No, no, you're a podcast.
• 6:35
  SPEAKER_09: I've got a microphone and you'll tell everybody.
• 6:38
SPEAKER_09: So I'll tell you in person.
• 6:40
SPEAKER_03: No, no text, no record of it, so I can deny it if somebody's like, hey, Jason said, Yeah, well, okay, just so everybody knows that's listening, Jake may tell me in person, but he's really good at fibbing to me.
• 6:53
SPEAKER_03: So if I tell you, hey, look, we're gonna have like, you know, steaks, it's probably gonna be like pizza or something.
• 6:58
SPEAKER_03: So, but no, it'll be good food.
• 7:00
  SPEAKER_03: I guarantee it.
• 7:00
  SPEAKER_03: Jake's known for that.
• 7:02
SPEAKER_03: Jake, what's been going on at Rocky Creek, man?
• 7:04
SPEAKER_03: I know you've been gangbusters there lately, doing all kinds of improvements.
• 7:07
SPEAKER_03: Anything new and exciting coming up?
• 7:10
SPEAKER_09: Still working on the stuff across the creek, Jace.
• 7:12
SPEAKER_09: You know, we've had uh we've had some rain here recently, as I'm sure you've had to, and the most most of the country, from what I've understood.
• 7:20
SPEAKER_09: But we're making progress, you know, just keep adding events, keep keep drawing, right?
• 7:25
SPEAKER_09: Like that's the goal for the rest of the year, and then move into next get through the dead pair blast, which we're looking forward to.
• 7:31
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, uh, but then build building on that, and we'll bit a South Carolina State shoot for 2027.
• 7:37
SPEAKER_09: Uh, that'll be coming up here soon.
• 7:39
SPEAKER_09: So hopefully in September we'll be able to announce that if that goes the way I we all hope it goes.
• 7:45
SPEAKER_09: Yeah, um just keeping our head down and keeping our nose to the grindstone.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_09: That's that's kind of my MO is just here it'll be here before you know it, and then boom.
• 7:55
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
• 7:56
SPEAKER_03: Well, listen, tonight's guest, um, he's been on the show before, Mr.
• 8:00
SPEAKER_03: Ed Pretel, aka Make or Break Ed.
• 8:03
SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're also gonna have Wayne, uh, who is the director of SCTP.
• 8:07
SPEAKER_03: Now, Jake, tell me again how you pronounce his last name.
• 8:10
  SPEAKER_01: Radmuson.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it does not sound like it's pronounced or like it's spelled.
• 8:16
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, don't don't don't say Rasmussen.
• 8:18
SPEAKER_09: Don't yeah, the the Wisconsiners will laugh at you if you say that stuff.
• 8:23
SPEAKER_03: Well, before before we get to Ed and Wayne, um, I do have an interview I recorded a little earlier today uh with Josh Reynolds from JTech.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you, this new website we have is gonna be really cool.
• 8:34
SPEAKER_03: It's gonna tie in with Patreon and all the podcast outlets.
• 8:38
SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of really cool interactive features coming.
• 8:41
SPEAKER_03: So, Jake, hang on a minute.
• 8:43
SPEAKER_03: Let me play this this interview I did with Josh, and then we'll be back to bring in Ed and Wayne.
• 8:48
  SPEAKER_03: Y'all sit tight.
• 8:49
  SPEAKER_07: The deck play.
• 8:55
  SPEAKER_03: All right, everyone.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_03: I want to welcome back Mr.
• 8:58
  SPEAKER_03: Joshua Reynolds from JTech.
• 9:00
SPEAKER_03: And I say welcome back because Josh, you were with us uh towards the beginning of the year with uh Casey Chase from Scorechaser.
• 9:06
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, indeed.
• 9:07
SPEAKER_06: Uh we uh we did a joint interview uh for one of your episodes, and it was a lot of fun.
• 9:12
SPEAKER_03: Well, for those that didn't pay attention or for those that have ADD like myself, uh let me just remind everyone um Josh and JTEC Communications are the people that built the Scorechaser app.
• 9:25
SPEAKER_03: Josh, that's that had to be a huge undertaking.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, i I I watch people build websites and it's so complex on the back end yet looks simple and user-friendly on the front end, right?
• 9:38
SPEAKER_03: So that that had to be very difficult.
• 9:41
SPEAKER_06: It was a challenge, you know.
• 9:42
SPEAKER_06: A lot of it was just wrapping our head around sporting clothes, which eventually came to grips with is really a whole bunch of sports wrapped in one.
• 9:50
SPEAKER_06: Um and they all have a lot of you know their own rules, and uh it's been a fun journey though.
• 9:54
SPEAKER_06: It continues to be a fun journey as the sport continues to grow and change, and Casey's always got us cooking up something as she rolls out uh new features and cool stuff in Score Chaser.
• 10:05
SPEAKER_03: She's always coming up with the next thing, right?
• 10:07
SPEAKER_03: And it's so cool, you know, and it's it's exciting to see technology coming into a sport that really had no technology, really.
• 10:15
SPEAKER_03: I mean, from the start of it.
• 10:17
SPEAKER_03: Is everyone knows I've been announcing each week that JTEC is now our new technology partner.
• 10:25
SPEAKER_03: And Josh, you want to.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I've tried to explain it, but let's hear it from you what that means for everybody.
• 10:31
SPEAKER_03: What does that mean for the listeners that okay, JTEC is with the dead pair now?
• 10:35
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I hope it's really cool for the listeners where we have um we we put up a uh a temp site right now, so we replaced the old website with just a uh a functional but simple site, and we're working on an exciting new site for the listeners that will just allow you know the dead pair to to continue to grow and change, and it should be should be more stable.
• 11:00
SPEAKER_06: We're gonna integrate it with uh with Scorechaser.
• 11:03
SPEAKER_06: So uh we we don't even exactly know what that's gonna mean yet, but we have some fun ideas on that.
• 11:08
SPEAKER_06: Um so that'll have some Score Chaser integration, so it'll actually have data pulled directly from Scorechaser displayed there.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_06: Of course, it'll have all your podcasts and well, I hope at the beginning of a long relationship where we can help you grow and just give the listeners the central, not only a central repository for the current and the past podcasts, but uh other things that they find useful and it can really be a home for fans of the dead bear.
• 11:35
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, not too many people know this, but um Josh is currently wearing a cape.
• 11:40
SPEAKER_03: Uh he was my hero.
• 11:42
  SPEAKER_03: I got I got hacked.
• 11:44
SPEAKER_03: Um and I say I, but our website, the dead pear website, got hacked, and I called him up, what was it, Josh?
• 11:51
SPEAKER_03: Like nine o'clock on a on a Wednesday night, and I'm like, uh, I've got a blank page, you know, and and uh you guys scrambled and you at least got us a landing page where people can the people that do go to the website and listen to it there, listen to the podcast episode there, they could at least go and get the new episode every week.
• 12:10
SPEAKER_03: And um, so yes, the site is under construction, and we had this planned even before I got hacked, but it's you know, like with anything else, you know, Rome wasn't built in a day, and we're building the new Rome website, so uh they kind of had to scramble and put together at least a landing page where the listeners that that listen to the website could get there.
• 12:30
SPEAKER_03: So thank you, Josh, very much.
• 12:32
  SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
• 12:33
SPEAKER_03: You are my hero because I was in full panic mode, as you know.
• 12:37
  SPEAKER_06: Absolutely, yeah.
• 12:38
SPEAKER_06: I mean, I would be too, right?
• 12:40
  SPEAKER_06: That's a nightmare.
• 12:41
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 12:42
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it just was unstable at that point, and um, so it's good now.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_06: Um I'm not only unstable, but gone by by that point.
• 12:50
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 12:51
SPEAKER_06: But yeah, now even though it's a just a temp site, and you know, all your podcasts are there, and so it's still functional.
• 12:57
  SPEAKER_06: So yeah.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, plus they've got the links to um the dead pair swag is now up there now, and also the dead pair cola raffle.
• 13:06
SPEAKER_03: So that's an easy button for that, right?
• 13:08
SPEAKER_03: Plus, all of our sponsors, if anybody's looking for any of the stuff that I talk about each week, you can still go to the deadpair website and there's a clickable link for each one of the sponsors.
• 13:16
SPEAKER_03: So uh very thankful uh Josh to you and your team that got that up quick for me.
• 13:21
  SPEAKER_03: I really appreciate that.
• 13:22
SPEAKER_03: And like I've tried to explain to everybody, I'm like a gnat on crack when it comes to patience.
• 13:27
SPEAKER_03: I'm so excited for this new website.
• 13:28
SPEAKER_03: But again, I've got to exercise patience because I know I know what it is on the backside that you guys do.
• 13:34
SPEAKER_03: And I mean, at least I have a 300-foot view of what you do, and I know it's very complex.
• 13:39
SPEAKER_03: So but going back to the score chaser app, a lot of people don't understand or don't know, but you're doing a lot for clubs and coaches alike that you're now specializing in building websites for clubs, right?
• 13:55
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, indeed.
• 13:56
SPEAKER_06: You know, we really have just gone all in on sporting plays and even broader shooting clubs in general and just the industry, you know, after working with Casey and Scorechaser and learning so much about it, and you know, it's just so much fun and it makes so much sense.
• 14:12
SPEAKER_06: We know so much about it now, having learned all the details of the of the of the sport that um we really saw this need where the sport, like you said earlier, was really kind of you know, the technology is really old.
• 14:26
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, from Scorechaser, which you know, the old before Scorechaser with the software was so bad.
• 14:32
SPEAKER_06: And um, we still see that with like club websites and the way clubs do business is so super old school.
• 14:39
SPEAKER_06: And I'm an old school guy, so I understand old school, but laborious and torturous, even where you know, people are manually tracking down hundreds of members trying to get checks from them every year for their club when we can build them a website that does all that automatically.
• 14:57
SPEAKER_06: All your members automatically renewal to a payment method on file.
• 15:01
SPEAKER_06: It can even be a digital check, an ACH transaction, or the credit card or debit card or whatever makes sense for your club.
• 15:07
SPEAKER_06: And we're integrating with exclusively, we're integrating it with SquareChaser.
• 15:11
SPEAKER_06: So your club site will be able to have your tournament information that you're already inputting into Square Chaser, you're already building it out on SquareChaser, will automatically show up right on your homepage and in your calendar.
• 15:24
SPEAKER_06: And uh people can click to register straight from there.
• 15:28
SPEAKER_06: And we even have a really fun feature that I can't wait to for to get in people's hands, which will be a club leader board.
• 15:36
SPEAKER_06: So it'll be specifically specific to that club.
• 15:40
SPEAKER_06: They can have a page that shows their members and how they're tracking versus each other.
• 15:45
SPEAKER_06: Um, all pulled automatically through score chaser data.
• 15:48
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 15:49
SPEAKER_06: So it'll come right, it'll come out of your NFCA tag, it'll come right out of Square Chaser automatically and just for fun competition to see who else in your club is beating you and um, you know, give you something to strive for, or someone to buy a beer and try and get tips and techniques from.
• 16:05
SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, that's kind of cool because a club could use that for say like a um like a buckle series or you know, some kind of a um what's I'm I'm drawing a blank Gene Christmas.
• 16:19
SPEAKER_03: Um some kind of a like a maybe like a multi-club series, right?
• 16:25
SPEAKER_03: Like they could use those results that come in and posted for points for the series.
• 16:30
  SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's really cool.
• 16:31
  SPEAKER_03: That is very cool.
• 16:33
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it should be really fun.
• 16:35
  SPEAKER_06: I I hope.
• 16:36
SPEAKER_03: Now you can accommodate a coach that would like to build a website or maybe even an app as well, right?
• 16:43
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, our focus in our marketing has been all about club websites just because we perceive such a need there for for you know, really for labor savings.
• 16:53
SPEAKER_06: You know, a lot of these clubs are staffed by volunteers and they just have vast volunteer hours doing this torturous, laborious tracking of data, and and we can just automate all that and make it so much simpler, and it's not even expensive.
• 17:07
SPEAKER_06: And so it's just a lot of need there.
• 17:09
SPEAKER_06: But yes, we can build anything.
• 17:10
SPEAKER_06: So we've been building um custom websites for and and web apps for for well, we turned 30 uh next July.
• 17:19
  SPEAKER_06: So we're 29 right now, we're just turning 29 on July.
• 17:23
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we've been doing this for a while, and it's a lot of fun.
• 17:26
SPEAKER_06: We help in businesses across the country and in any industry, and we do you know everything from small websites, you know, just a presence website for a small business, all the way up through, you know, well, score chaser.
• 17:40
SPEAKER_06: So big complicated either websites or or or big complicated web apps.
• 17:46
SPEAKER_06: Our bread and butter is probably a hybrid, even if they are a small business, we can do things where we integrate, you know, pieces so that uh like it's just a scheduling system flows into their their calendar in their into their own scheduling software or um integrate their calendar in there so that people can their customers can subscribe to their calendar in there and the customer automatically gets new events on their own calendar um or you know whatever whatever it is.
• 18:13
SPEAKER_06: But uh big or small, we can uh we can help people both to build the site but also to make sure the site is f findable.
• 18:22
SPEAKER_06: And I should just touch on that real quick if that's okay.
• 18:25
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 18:26
SPEAKER_06: Because it's a super important part, and it's you know, and and it's changing so fast because AI is coming on strong and people are using that for recommendations, and much of the foundations of AI are the same basis for search engine optimization.
• 18:40
SPEAKER_06: So, in other words, how you get found in a search engine is the starting place for how you get found in AI, but then there's additional factors with AI.
• 18:49
SPEAKER_06: Bottom line is you don't want to build a site and then just pray that they come, right?
• 18:55
SPEAKER_06: You it's not, you know, if I build it, they will come, is not true about doing business online, about having your business online.
• 19:03
SPEAKER_06: And instead, you need to at least pay attention to what's happening online, to your reputation, who's talking about you, how are you found, are you findable?
• 19:13
SPEAKER_06: And we offer a whole suite of services that can help uh customers to make sure that they're being found appropriately when people are searching for their subject matter.
• 19:23
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 19:23
SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, and I don't I definitely don't want to call out any any club names or anything, but here recently um I was gonna be traveling and I was searching for clubs in the area, and man, you want to talk about some antiquated websites that I ran across.
• 19:37
SPEAKER_03: And then I went to the club and it was like, your website does this club zero justice.
• 19:44
SPEAKER_03: I mean, like it was really cool, really nice facility.
• 19:47
SPEAKER_03: And it's like, man, if you guys just had a good website to show people this stuff, and it was so difficult, like just navigating through the website to find like what's your target fees and what's your golf cart gonna cost.
• 20:00
SPEAKER_03: And you know, I want to come shoot there for the day, and I'm gonna burn, you know, a flight of shells.
• 20:05
SPEAKER_03: What's it gonna cost me?
• 20:06
SPEAKER_03: You know, um, or maybe do you have shells to buy there, right?
• 20:10
SPEAKER_03: Like, there was none of that basic information on the website other than here's some pictures from our last tournament, and that stuff's cool, but but that's not the content that you need for somebody that's that you're trying to attract new people to.
• 20:24
SPEAKER_03: And again, the club was awesome, man.
• 20:26
SPEAKER_03: It was beautiful, it was great facilities, and the website made it look like somebody's backyard, you know, and it was not just the pictures, but again, the information, the content that was in there that people needed to come to that club.
• 20:40
SPEAKER_03: I it you ended up you ended up like I did, calling the people.
• 20:44
SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, we have all that.
• 20:45
SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, this is what the fees are gonna be.
• 20:47
SPEAKER_03: And they could have just very simply had that information up front and center.
• 20:51
SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, I hope some clubs and some coaches really take notice to this, um, to this union that you now have, you know, that we now have between JTEC and the Deadpair, because I mean, I I think it's gonna bring a lot of good information out that you guys can help people with their websites or if they want an app.
• 21:11
SPEAKER_03: Um, and for those that are listening that, you know, not affiliated with the club or they're not a coach, cannot wait for you to see what's coming with the new Deadpair website.
• 21:21
SPEAKER_03: There's all kinds of cool features in there.
• 21:23
SPEAKER_03: Kind of like we can almost interact with our listeners a little bit.
• 21:26
SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean, Josh?
• 21:27
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 21:28
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm I'm super excited for it too.
• 21:31
SPEAKER_06: I think uh uh it sounds like it's going cooking along well and and we'll get it rolled out.
• 21:37
SPEAKER_03: Well, I don't want to call you out and put you on the spot, so you can tell me to get lost if you can't, but I think there's I think there's talk of you gonna be at the Deadpool Blast in December, right?
• 21:48
SPEAKER_03: And at Rocky Creek in South Carolina?
• 21:50
SPEAKER_06: You know, I really uh at this point I'm planning on it.
• 21:54
SPEAKER_06: So there's no guarantees, but I m my hope is to do a a JTEC East Coast uh sort of tour.
• 22:03
SPEAKER_06: Um, and we have a bunch of customers in that neighborhood and and people we're talking with and all sorts of just connections there.
• 22:10
SPEAKER_06: And I think it would be super fun to come out and be there present at the Dead Pearl blast in two.
• 22:18
SPEAKER_06: Um visit our customers and and uh and friends that are in that region.
• 22:23
SPEAKER_06: So yeah, I it's not locked down, that's for sure, but I I hope to be there.
• 22:28
  SPEAKER_06: I really do.
• 22:29
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, what you're you're more you know, you're more than welcome to come.
• 22:33
SPEAKER_03: I can I would really love to have you there.
• 22:34
SPEAKER_03: And uh it I'm telling you, there's nothing better than putting a face with a voice.
• 22:40
SPEAKER_03: And trust me, I know this.
• 22:41
SPEAKER_03: I I've traveled to clubs all over the country, and people want to come up and just say hi and shake my hand because they listen to me every week, right?
• 22:48
SPEAKER_03: So this would be a great chance for you, um, some of these fine folks that are listening to come up and meet you.
• 22:53
SPEAKER_03: And you know, who knows?
• 22:54
SPEAKER_03: Maybe there's somebody that that needs your help that's gonna be there.
• 22:58
  SPEAKER_06: 100%.
• 22:59
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, uh, I'm I'm looking forward to it.
• 23:01
SPEAKER_03: Well, Josh, thank you, buddy.
• 23:03
  SPEAKER_03: Really appreciate it.
• 23:04
  SPEAKER_03: I I'm super excited.
• 23:05
SPEAKER_03: We're just everybody knows we're we're shooting somewhere around the first week of August.
• 23:09
SPEAKER_03: The the new site will be done.
• 23:11
SPEAKER_03: So uh keep an eye out for that.
• 23:13
  SPEAKER_03: That's the the deadpair.com.
• 23:16
SPEAKER_03: And trust me, when it goes live, I'll be flapping my gums about it plenty.
• 23:20
SPEAKER_03: So uh, but in the in the meantime, the the landing page is still there, there's still some good information there.
• 23:26
SPEAKER_03: Uh, don't hesitate to get over.
• 23:28
SPEAKER_03: Um, also, uh, there's by the time you hear this, the article will be posted up on social media.
• 23:33
SPEAKER_03: Um, the folks over at JTEC were really gracious, wrote a really cool article about us and this partnership uh that we now have with JTEC.
• 23:42
  SPEAKER_03: So check that out.
• 23:44
  SPEAKER_03: Really cool article.
• 23:45
SPEAKER_03: And uh Josh, I I can't thank you enough, man.
• 23:48
SPEAKER_03: I mean, you saved my bacon and you're continuing to save my bacon.
• 23:51
SPEAKER_03: So I really appreciate it, buddy.
• 23:52
SPEAKER_06: Well, our pleasure, Jason, and it's great working with you.
• 23:56
SPEAKER_06: And uh it's a great community of people.
• 23:58
  SPEAKER_06: Shooters are good folks.
• 24:00
  SPEAKER_06: Um, so we're we're enjoying it.
• 24:02
SPEAKER_03: Yep, the finest there is in any sport.
• 24:05
SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you, it's there's no strangers in sporting clays, only friends you haven't met yet.
• 24:09
  SPEAKER_03: Uh yes.
• 24:11
SPEAKER_03: In the short term interim, everybody, if you need in more information um from Josh or would like to speak to him or one of his staff, right down in the show description.
• 24:20
SPEAKER_03: He's right down there with the sponsors.
• 24:22
  SPEAKER_03: There's a link to JTech Communications.
• 24:24
  SPEAKER_03: So check him out.
• 24:25
SPEAKER_03: Josh, thank you again, buddy.
• 24:26
  SPEAKER_03: We'll be talking soon.
• 24:28
  SPEAKER_06: Excellent.
• 24:28
  SPEAKER_06: You take care.
• 24:34
  SPEAKER_03: All right, everyone.
• 24:35
SPEAKER_03: This is a really cool round table we have here with us.
• 24:38
SPEAKER_03: Of course, Jake Spangler's back with us, and then we have Mr.
• 24:40
  SPEAKER_03: Wayne Rossman.
• 24:42
  SPEAKER_03: How are you, Wayne?
• 24:43
  SPEAKER_03: Good.
• 24:44
SPEAKER_03: Thanks for having me on.
• 24:45
  SPEAKER_03: Yes, sir.
• 24:46
SPEAKER_03: Uh, pleasure to have you.
• 24:47
SPEAKER_03: And of course, everybody knows Ed Pritchell, aka Make a Break Ed.
• 24:51
  SPEAKER_03: What's up, Ed?
• 24:53
SPEAKER_05: Jason, good to be on the show.
• 24:55
SPEAKER_03: Um I'm glad to have you back, and I'm I'm excited to talk about some news that you and I have.
• 25:01
SPEAKER_03: But before we get to that, Wayne, you are the director of the SCTP.
• 25:07
SPEAKER_03: Can you tell how long have you had that position?
• 25:09
SPEAKER_03: When did that come about?
• 25:11
SPEAKER_03: Uh about two and a half years.
• 25:13
SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm coming into my third national championship.
• 25:15
  SPEAKER_03: Okay.
• 25:16
SPEAKER_03: And what does that entail?
• 25:18
SPEAKER_03: So you're the director for the SCTP.
• 25:20
SPEAKER_03: So, like, what is your what is your your duty list look like?
• 25:24
SPEAKER_01: Um believe it or not, a lot of it is fundraising.
• 25:28
SPEAKER_01: Um, meeting meeting with sponsors, getting things uh set up for national championships, um, helping implement regional events across the country and working with our international team and just trying to grow the program uh as a whole.
• 25:44
SPEAKER_01: But there's a lot of time with sponsors.
• 25:47
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, I can imagine.
• 25:48
SPEAKER_03: You know, youth shooting is is really taken off, and we're gonna get to that here in a minute.
• 25:54
SPEAKER_03: Um, but Ed, you were telling me how big the shootoffs have gotten during the SCTP nationals.
• 26:00
SPEAKER_03: Now, I I don't know now, Wayne or you or Ed can comment on this.
• 26:04
SPEAKER_03: The ACUI and the SCTP have kind of had a little bit of a merger.
• 26:09
SPEAKER_03: Can somebody jump in and explain that?
• 26:12
SPEAKER_01: Oh, ACUI and SCTP uh partner to run the collegiate program.
• 26:18
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 26:18
SPEAKER_01: ACUI is the parent program per se.
• 26:22
SPEAKER_01: They have all the connections to the colleges and everything else.
• 26:25
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 26:26
SPEAKER_01: We help with the manpower and the software to implement the shoots.
• 26:30
SPEAKER_01: So we supply staff and uh our shot system, so they you go use that system uh for all their scoring and registrations.
• 26:39
  SPEAKER_01: Okay so it's a great partnership.
• 26:41
SPEAKER_01: They have they have the contacts of the colleges, they have uh they have a shoe-in at all the colleges, so it helps us drastically um to keep our athletes involved through the colleges.
• 26:54
  SPEAKER_04: Okay.
• 26:55
SPEAKER_01: Normally after high school, athletes' uh participation would drop off by partnering with ACUI, and our athletes understand how the format works.
• 27:06
SPEAKER_01: So if there isn't a college team, it is very easy for them to start a college team.
• 27:12
  SPEAKER_04: Okay.
• 27:12
SPEAKER_01: So it it's been a very good partnership.
• 27:16
  SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
• 27:16
SPEAKER_03: Well, Ed, you were telling me how big these shootoffs have gotten.
• 27:19
SPEAKER_03: Now, you travel the the world, I think you're up in Canada right now at this very moment, but um and you put on make-a-breaks all over the place, right?
• 27:29
SPEAKER_03: Like we see you at all the regionals, US Open, now this year at Nationals, thankfully.
• 27:34
SPEAKER_03: Um but this is still the largest shootoff you have is during the shoot.
• 27:39
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, and I well, I guess for me, one of the the different things that we've done.
• 27:44
SPEAKER_05: I've worked with Wayne on this.
• 27:46
SPEAKER_05: Uh, one of the things that that uh, and correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, Wayne, but I was gonna say one of the things for ACUI and SCTP is they really work on a team aspect.
• 27:55
SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
• 27:56
SPEAKER_05: They do have an individual awards and stuff like that, but but it's it's uh a lot more focused on the team aspect.
• 28:04
SPEAKER_05: Uh so whether it's the trap team, the skeet team, you know, and so we took that kind of that same idea and applied that to make a break.
• 28:11
SPEAKER_05: And so normally, Jason, you know, the events that you're at, you'd you'd go head to head against somebody, right?
• 28:17
SPEAKER_05: There's the top eight or the top 16 are paired up and they shoot down.
• 28:21
SPEAKER_05: Uh in the ACUI and the SCTP formats, we've we've gone to this team event as well.
• 28:27
SPEAKER_05: So instead instead of one make-a-break stage, there's now two make a break stages, just kind of side by side.
• 28:33
SPEAKER_05: In fact, I stand in between there with the sound system and and computer system to run the games.
• 28:39
SPEAKER_05: So I'm between the two stages.
• 28:41
SPEAKER_05: A team is made up of five players, five athletes.
• 28:46
  SPEAKER_05: And so basically they're they're chosen.
• 28:49
SPEAKER_05: So a school, for example, could have anywhere from five to maybe 105 kids on their team, but then they'll they'll go shoot a qualifying score.
• 28:59
SPEAKER_05: And so what comprises a team is the top five individual scores on that team.
• 29:04
SPEAKER_05: And so that makes up, they've they've got a total, and then the top eight teams end up in the shoot-offs going head to head.
• 29:11
  SPEAKER_04: Wow.
• 29:11
SPEAKER_05: And so uh once we hit that format, then again, there's five athletes on a team, and so we we pair them up.
• 29:18
SPEAKER_05: So the coaches, the other thing we did with with this in particular was get the coaches involved.
• 29:23
SPEAKER_05: So the coaches pick their first two athletes to go head to head, and then they take the stage.
• 29:31
SPEAKER_05: So I guess I'm trying to relate it, Jason, to what you're more familiar with.
• 29:34
SPEAKER_05: So imagine the player on the left, player on the right.
• 29:37
SPEAKER_05: Well, in this format, being that the players on each of the individual stages are from the same team, the person on the left shoots at the even targets, the person on the right shoots at the odd targets.
• 29:47
SPEAKER_05: So again, stop and think about this a little bit.
• 29:50
SPEAKER_05: So the the left side's two, four, six, the right side's gonna be three, five, and seven.
• 29:54
SPEAKER_05: So again, the coach is gonna want to be involved with really picking which athlete goes on which side of the stage, right?
• 30:01
SPEAKER_05: There's there's a lot that can that goes in this as far as thinking and planning if you're really if you're really serious about trying to win.
• 30:08
SPEAKER_05: And trust me, these coaches are serious about trying to win.
• 30:11
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 30:12
SPEAKER_05: So then what they do is they play a best of three.
• 30:15
SPEAKER_05: So it's two athletes and two athletes, then they pick their next two of the remaining three.
• 30:20
SPEAKER_05: They go head to head.
• 30:21
SPEAKER_05: And if it should, if if a if one of the teams didn't win two in a row and it goes to a third game, they take the athlete that's not played yet, and then they can pick one of any one of the previous four.
• 30:32
  SPEAKER_04: Wow.
• 30:32
SPEAKER_05: And so that's kind of how the rotation goes.
• 30:35
SPEAKER_05: The they we start the whole thing off with a coin toss.
• 30:38
SPEAKER_05: Whoever wins the coin toss gets to choose whether they're gonna lead or follow as far as which stage they're gonna go on.
• 30:43
SPEAKER_05: Uh, teams change stages in the middle of the game, just like you would change sides after the the seven target, right?
• 30:50
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 30:51
SPEAKER_05: And and and again in the second half of the game, then it's up to the coach to whoever starts on the left side as far as his two athletes shoots first, but then they work as a team to decide who's gonna shoot at what.
• 31:03
SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
• 31:04
SPEAKER_05: If what they're gonna call, all that sort of stuff.
• 31:06
SPEAKER_05: So it's it's really kind of a unique dynamic with the coach being up there and the and the two athletes involved.
• 31:12
SPEAKER_05: And I mean, I'm right there, so I hear the conversations about you know, what should we call what you what do you what do you feel confident in?
• 31:18
SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
• 31:19
SPEAKER_05: There's just there's a lot of pressure, there's a lot going on in that moment.
• 31:23
SPEAKER_05: It's exciting stuff, I gotta tell you.
• 31:24
SPEAKER_03: That that is very cool.
• 31:26
SPEAKER_03: That's that's totally different format than what you know most of us are used to the shoot, make a break.
• 31:32
  SPEAKER_03: So that's really cool.
• 31:34
  SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
• 31:35
SPEAKER_05: And so it's same the same thing with ACUI and the colleges.
• 31:37
SPEAKER_05: So we've used that format.
• 31:38
SPEAKER_05: Like I said, I've worked with Wayne and uh and Taylor with ACUI, and we've used that that format in both both places, and it's worked really well.
• 31:46
SPEAKER_05: And and it's just the the I would say the teams, the other athletes and stuff, they're cheering them on and stuff, and it's it always ends up being a high energy event and extremely competitive.
• 31:57
SPEAKER_05: I mean, often, well almost always, they end up going to three, you know, uh out of the full best of three to get the winner.
• 32:05
SPEAKER_05: Uh, matches are typically always close.
• 32:07
  SPEAKER_05: Like it's it's nail biter stuff.
• 32:10
SPEAKER_05: Honestly, if there was if there was a a company that had interest in looking for really good content to film, those that ACY nationals and the SCTP Nationals, those team make-a-break shootoffs would be some of the most exciting TV that had ever been captured.
• 32:27
SPEAKER_03: Well, and you know, it's it's not only that, Ed, and I've had this argument a hundred times.
• 32:32
SPEAKER_03: The SCTP Nationals is the world's largest clay target shoot.
• 32:36
SPEAKER_03: I don't care what anybody wants to say.
• 32:38
SPEAKER_03: I mean, look, what are we up to this year?
• 32:40
SPEAKER_03: Are we up to 3,500 now, Wayne?
• 32:43
SPEAKER_01: Um, right now we're at uh just shy of 3,000 athletes in attendance with over 9,950 registrations.
• 32:52
  SPEAKER_03: Jamie Christmas.
• 32:53
SPEAKER_03: Okay, show me another clay target shoot in the world that's that big.
• 32:56
SPEAKER_03: Now, I understand it's multiple disciplines, right?
• 33:00
SPEAKER_03: But you know, it's it really is a big deal.
• 33:02
SPEAKER_03: And if nobody's ever been to the SCTB nationals, I'm telling you right now, you think it's big going to like nationals or something like that.
• 33:10
SPEAKER_03: They these kids travel, it's not just them, it's a mom, dad, aunt, uncle, brother, sister, neighbor, everybody they can drag out there to watch them shoot.
• 33:18
SPEAKER_03: And it's as and Jake can speak for it.
• 33:20
SPEAKER_03: He's had to wrestle that circus more than one time, huh, Jake?
• 33:24
SPEAKER_03: But it it's really as big.
• 33:26
SPEAKER_03: And with that being said, Wayne, every time I hear about you shooting teams, it seems as though it's growing more and more every year.
• 33:34
  SPEAKER_03: Is that correct?
• 33:35
SPEAKER_03: Or are you seeing a drop, or is it still a growth, or how how's it going?
• 33:40
  SPEAKER_01: There's still a growth.
• 33:42
SPEAKER_01: Um, growth has been slow.
• 33:45
SPEAKER_01: With youth shooting, there's always a turnover.
• 33:48
SPEAKER_01: We always have athletes aging out of the program, but we always have athletes coming into the program.
• 33:54
SPEAKER_01: So by using having them shoot all the way through college, we're keeping a larger group longer, right?
• 34:02
  SPEAKER_01: But we're still having fall-off.
• 34:04
SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of athletes that don't go on to college, so they age out of the program.
• 34:07
SPEAKER_01: Once you graduate from college, you age out of the program.
• 34:10
SPEAKER_01: So it's the one I mean, it's just like any other youth sport.
• 34:14
SPEAKER_01: We've got them for a window of time.
• 34:16
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 34:17
SPEAKER_01: We try to start them as early as teams allow.
• 34:21
SPEAKER_01: Some teams allow second and third graders on the team.
• 34:24
  SPEAKER_01: Wow.
• 34:25
SPEAKER_01: Other teams they've got to be up junior high or even in high school.
• 34:29
SPEAKER_01: So we kind of run the gamut on what age come they are when they come into the program.
• 34:35
  SPEAKER_01: But yes, there's a growth.
• 34:37
SPEAKER_01: We see more teams every year.
• 34:39
SPEAKER_01: Nationals is what it is.
• 34:41
  SPEAKER_01: It's up and down.
• 34:42
SPEAKER_01: Some years we got a few more registrations than others, a few more athletes.
• 34:46
SPEAKER_01: We have fewer athletes, but we have this more registrations.
• 34:50
SPEAKER_01: The athletes that are coming are shooting more disciplines.
• 34:53
SPEAKER_09: What about nationally, though, Wayne?
• 34:55
SPEAKER_09: Like, again, I've been there.
• 34:58
SPEAKER_09: I've been with you and Eddie.
• 35:01
SPEAKER_09: Ed, have you ever thought about changing the once?
• 35:04
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, would you stop?
• 35:08
SPEAKER_09: Just because you can't hit him, Jake.
• 35:10
  SPEAKER_01: Just a thought.
• 35:11
  SPEAKER_01: Just a thought.
• 35:12
  SPEAKER_01: Maybe some incomers.
• 35:14
SPEAKER_01: The the one target Jake can't hit is an outgoer.
• 35:21
SPEAKER_09: Oh, but so nationals is what it is.
• 35:26
SPEAKER_09: Wayne's got X amount of this that he can fit this many competitors in.
• 35:30
SPEAKER_09: It's almost to the point where it's capped, right?
• 35:32
SPEAKER_09: Like he doesn't have any more space to put any more people.
• 35:35
  SPEAKER_09: Okay.
• 35:36
SPEAKER_09: We're gonna start adding more days before long.
• 35:38
  SPEAKER_09: Right.
• 35:39
  SPEAKER_09: That's I mean, that's that's the option, right?
• 35:41
SPEAKER_09: We can either build more facility or we can add more days.
• 35:45
SPEAKER_09: What are we gonna do?
• 35:47
  SPEAKER_09: Add more days.
• 35:48
SPEAKER_09: But the big thing is, Jace, like you alluded to, it's more people than you're ever going to see at a gun club.
• 35:54
SPEAKER_09: And you've been to plenty of them.
• 35:56
SPEAKER_09: It's more than you're ever gonna see anywhere, I promise.
• 36:00
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
• 36:01
  SPEAKER_03: It's insane.
• 36:03
SPEAKER_09: Wayne looks great getting ready to head into this thing.
• 36:05
SPEAKER_09: I've seen him the last two years getting ready to head into this thing.
• 36:08
SPEAKER_09: He didn't look this good.
• 36:10
  SPEAKER_09: He was sweet.
• 36:11
SPEAKER_09: He didn't look this good, folks.
• 36:12
SPEAKER_09: Look out for Wayne Ravinson this year.
• 36:16
  SPEAKER_09: He looks good.
• 36:18
SPEAKER_01: Oh leave me alone, Jay.
• 36:22
SPEAKER_09: I'm being good at I'm being serious though.
• 36:24
  SPEAKER_09: You look good.
• 36:25
  SPEAKER_09: I can't see Ed.
• 36:26
  SPEAKER_09: We know he's got a mustache.
• 36:29
  SPEAKER_05: There's a reason for that.
• 36:31
SPEAKER_01: Looking looking looking at nationals, I mean, before we even start, we're at 1.7 million targets that we shot.
• 36:39
  SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
• 36:40
  SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
• 36:41
SPEAKER_09: You guys can't you guys can't keep answering my questions before I ask them.
• 36:45
SPEAKER_09: All of you have answered my questions before I ask them.
• 36:48
SPEAKER_01: I I I've got my friend keep up, Jake.
• 36:50
  SPEAKER_01: I'm ready for you.
• 36:52
SPEAKER_09: I did get to ask Ed if he was ever gonna change the ones.
• 36:56
SPEAKER_09: I mean, so I got one question.
• 36:59
SPEAKER_03: You you have to understand, Ed.
• 37:00
SPEAKER_03: He I heard for half an hour before we went on air.
• 37:03
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna ask Ed about the one target.
• 37:04
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna ask Ed about the one target.
• 37:07
SPEAKER_03: But you had the perfect comeback to it, Ed.
• 37:10
SPEAKER_03: Just because you can't hit it doesn't mean you need to change it.
• 37:14
SPEAKER_09: Eddie, how many rounds of Megan Brake will you throw at Nationals?
• 37:20
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you you caught me off guard on that.
• 37:22
SPEAKER_05: I don't even remember what we did last year.
• 37:25
SPEAKER_05: Like it was it was crazy.
• 37:26
SPEAKER_05: I uh Wayne, maybe you remember right off the cuff.
• 37:29
SPEAKER_05: I guess I've been working on some other stuff.
• 37:31
SPEAKER_01: Last year at Nationals, we threw 5,200 games.
• 37:36
SPEAKER_09: 5,200 games a truckload of targets on make a break layouts, folks.
• 37:42
  SPEAKER_01: A truckload.
• 37:44
SPEAKER_01: Well, and to make it so that we can get more athletes or more teams to compete in it, we're running two fields side by side.
• 37:51
SPEAKER_01: So when we go to finals, we're gonna take four teams from field one and four teams off field two to go into the finals.
• 37:57
  SPEAKER_01: Wow.
• 37:58
SPEAKER_01: So that we can just get enough opportunity for them to shoot.
• 38:03
SPEAKER_03: Wayne, let me let me ask you this.
• 38:04
SPEAKER_03: What what would you say has been the biggest improvements to the SCTP program?
• 38:11
  SPEAKER_01: Biggest improvement?
• 38:12
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 38:12
  SPEAKER_01: Wayne Radio.
• 38:13
SPEAKER_05: Besides, besides besides you, Wayne.
• 38:18
SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't even put myself in the top 100, guys.
• 38:21
SPEAKER_01: Um we had to tease you regardless.
• 38:29
SPEAKER_01: I knew it was coming sooner or later.
• 38:31
  SPEAKER_01: Um, biggest improvement?
• 38:34
  SPEAKER_01: I honestly I don't know.
• 38:36
SPEAKER_01: Shot system getting better every year.
• 38:38
SPEAKER_01: We keep making upgrades there.
• 38:40
SPEAKER_01: Um I think going to team scoring was a big positive for uh the program in a whole.
• 38:45
SPEAKER_01: Um instead of doing squad scoring, doing team scoring at national championship.
• 38:49
  SPEAKER_01: Um because we promote team-based, team-based, team-based.
• 38:53
  SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
• 38:54
SPEAKER_01: And to me, a squad-based results are not team-based.
• 38:57
SPEAKER_01: So um I like the fact that no athlete, if you if you come with six athletes for trap, all six are shooting to be on that top score on that platform.
• 39:07
SPEAKER_01: So I I think team scoring has been a big bonus uh to the entire program.
• 39:13
SPEAKER_01: So some some don't agree with me, and that's fine.
• 39:16
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 39:16
SPEAKER_01: But I think as a whole, team scoring has helped us.
• 39:20
SPEAKER_01: So, okay, let's flip that.
• 39:22
  SPEAKER_09: That's the message, too.
• 39:23
  SPEAKER_09: That's and that's the difference, Jason.
• 39:24
SPEAKER_09: They it is NSCA stuff, NSSA stuff, ATA stuff.
• 39:29
  SPEAKER_09: It's individually based.
• 39:30
SPEAKER_09: This is not in the same animal at all, as far as registration goes.
• 39:36
SPEAKER_01: We do give away individual awards, but we do give team awards.
• 39:42
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 39:42
SPEAKER_01: And we base it on a team score.
• 39:45
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 39:45
SPEAKER_03: Well, okay, so the other side of that coin, what are we still lacking, or what what could still use improvement, do you think?
• 39:53
SPEAKER_09: How do we retain him from 25 to 35?
• 39:56
  SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's another question.
• 39:58
  SPEAKER_03: Just hold on.
• 39:58
  SPEAKER_03: Stop asking about it.
• 40:00
SPEAKER_09: But that's what it is.
• 40:01
SPEAKER_09: That's I mean, he just said that.
• 40:03
SPEAKER_09: How do we retain him from 25 to 35?
• 40:05
  SPEAKER_03: I I no, I understand that.
• 40:07
SPEAKER_03: That but that is a separate question, what I want to get to.
• 40:10
SPEAKER_03: What I'm saying is the current SCTP system.
• 40:13
  SPEAKER_09: Guys, you like that?
• 40:15
  SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna edit you.
• 40:19
SPEAKER_03: Uh but no, in the current SCTP system, what are we what are we still lacking, or what can use improvement, do you think?
• 40:26
SPEAKER_01: Number of athletes competing in international disciplines.
• 40:29
  SPEAKER_04: Okay.
• 40:30
SPEAKER_01: And that that that that is a small sector of the entire program, but being able to keep that pipeline going because I I see our program as the proving training grounds for USA shooting because we have a number of our team members that make our international team that go on and best up into USA shooting in one shape, way, shape, or form.
• 40:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um but it's there is such a smaller population that shoots those disciplines that it's hard to grow it.
• 41:07
SPEAKER_01: It's hard to get uh opportunities for athletes.
• 41:09
SPEAKER_01: And we've started holding regionals for just the international games, just to try to get more more events across the country to give athletes a better uh opportunity to try it.
• 41:19
SPEAKER_01: Um facilities in a lot of areas, I mean, you go into some areas of the country, they don't shoot trap.
• 41:27
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 41:28
SPEAKER_01: You go Midwest up north, they shoot trap a lot.
• 41:33
  SPEAKER_01: Right.
• 41:33
SPEAKER_09: But Georgia, Florida, it's sporting place, South Carolina, South Carolina.
• 41:40
SPEAKER_01: I mean, right, it it it's it's there's a lot of geographical differences in what disciplines areas are shooting.
• 41:48
SPEAKER_01: But bringing them all together at nationals is kind of fun because yeah, if you're gonna go for the HOA award, you've got to shoot trap skiing sporting plays.
• 41:55
SPEAKER_09: And well, and since I've been here, Jay, sorry not to interrupt.
• 42:00
SPEAKER_09: People always ask, what are colleges looking for?
• 42:03
SPEAKER_09: I'm saying colleges are looking for somebody that can shoot everything, every single discipline.
• 42:08
  SPEAKER_09: That's what they're looking for.
• 42:09
SPEAKER_03: So is bunker still a part of that as well?
• 42:13
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
• 42:16
SPEAKER_03: I mean what what I'm saying is we're actually technically talking about four different disciplines.
• 42:21
SPEAKER_03: You have trap, ski, sporting, and bunker, right?
• 42:25
SPEAKER_01: Well, for colleague for the collegiate program, we do trap, ski, sporting, super sporting, doubles trap, double ski.
• 42:34
  SPEAKER_04: Okay.
• 42:34
SPEAKER_01: What did I miss, Jake?
• 42:36
  SPEAKER_01: I think that's all you got.
• 42:39
  SPEAKER_01: So that's make a break.
• 42:41
  SPEAKER_09: Make a break.
• 42:42
SPEAKER_09: Everybody should make a break.
• 42:44
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 42:45
SPEAKER_03: So that that kind of leads me into my next question is of all the disciplines that they shoot, is there one I understand geo, you know, geographically that's that changes, but is there one that seems to have the most interest as far as leading the charge amongst the youth teams?
• 43:04
  SPEAKER_03: Is it sporting?
• 43:05
  SPEAKER_03: Is it trap?
• 43:05
  SPEAKER_03: Is it skeet?
• 43:06
SPEAKER_03: Is there see is there one of those disciplines that seems to be like the most interest?
• 43:12
  SPEAKER_09: Um geographically.
• 43:14
SPEAKER_09: If you gauge it off national's, if you gauge it off national's numbers, Lane, if you gauge it off that national numbers, not geographically, just national's numbers.
• 43:23
SPEAKER_01: National numbers, we have just under 2,700 registrations for singles trap.
• 43:28
  SPEAKER_01: American trap, 16-yard trap.
• 43:30
SPEAKER_01: The next one comes in at over just over 1650, and that's sporting clays.
• 43:36
SPEAKER_01: Okay, and skeet is right behind it at 1500.
• 43:39
SPEAKER_01: So gauging it that way, yeah, trap sporting clays, skeet.
• 43:44
  SPEAKER_04: Okay.
• 43:45
  SPEAKER_04: All right, cool.
• 43:46
SPEAKER_09: Skeet numbers are based on what's available at the facility, though, Jace.
• 43:50
SPEAKER_09: Like it could be bigger if there was more fields.
• 43:54
  SPEAKER_09: Right?
• 43:54
SPEAKER_09: Like that's that's what Wayne has to work with.
• 43:57
  SPEAKER_09: Sporting's a little different, ATA trap, a little.
• 44:00
SPEAKER_09: Different because they got the availability to make stuff.
• 44:02
  SPEAKER_09: Sure.
• 44:02
  SPEAKER_09: But at 2,600 shooting singles, that's a pile.
• 44:05
  SPEAKER_01: 2,700, Wayne?
• 44:07
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 20, yeah, just under 2700 right now.
• 44:10
SPEAKER_01: And we added super sporting back in at Cardinal Center this last last year, and we're up uh 170 registrations for super sporting compared to last year.
• 44:21
SPEAKER_09: And again, but like Wayne alluded to, it's all geographical, Jace.
• 44:25
SPEAKER_09: You can look at entries, you'll see a bunch of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida shooting super sporting.
• 44:30
  SPEAKER_09: Probably Tennessee.
• 44:31
  SPEAKER_09: Tennessee shoots it all.
• 44:32
SPEAKER_09: Tennessee is like the breeding ground for pretty much here's where everybody can shoot ski trap sporting.
• 44:40
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 44:41
  unknown: Okay.
• 44:42
SPEAKER_09: That's where you start seeing the intermingling.
• 44:44
SPEAKER_03: Well, this is uh the this this next question.
• 44:47
  SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna mute Jake's microphone here.
• 44:49
SPEAKER_03: Um, one of the things that's talking about one of the things that's talked about a lot is the retention rate.
• 44:57
SPEAKER_03: And and you know, we just briefly alluded to that is we always seem to lose that that massive amount of youth shooters that you know, just after college, for obvious reasons, they dip off.
• 45:09
SPEAKER_03: Now, you've had some some outliers, you know, uh Joe Fanese, Todd Hitch comes to mind, you know, they go through college, they shoot all the way through college, and now they're continuing to shoot and they're still showing success.
• 45:20
SPEAKER_03: Will Hinton, you know, there's there's some outliers, but we're talking about a handful or a couple handfuls out of you just said, just shy of 3,000 kids.
• 45:30
SPEAKER_03: So do you see a way of improving that, or is there something we can do to change that narrative?
• 45:37
SPEAKER_01: Well, to me, part of it is encouraging those that have aged out of the program to come back as coaches.
• 45:45
SPEAKER_01: Because what I've been seeing is if the athlete turns into a coach, they go shoot more.
• 45:54
SPEAKER_01: There is no better way to improve your shooting than coaching.
• 46:00
SPEAKER_01: Because you're you have to figure out a way to explain it to the athlete.
• 46:09
SPEAKER_01: And to me, that helps your shooting in itself because you put yourself in their mindset.
• 46:16
SPEAKER_01: So if we can figure out a way to bring those athletes back at a sooner age, at a younger age, I mean yes, there are some teams that have the um collegiate athletes coming in and helping uh be coaches on the program in their program, but it's finding a way to get them back in sooner.
• 46:37
SPEAKER_01: I I've seen a number of teams that have former athletes now coaching.
• 46:43
SPEAKER_01: My home team, they've got a number of them that have come back to help coach.
• 46:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, either at their team or for teams where closer to where they're living now.
• 46:52
SPEAKER_01: I mean, after after high school, after college, where where athletes end up is no different than looking at a pattern board, they're all over the country.
• 47:01
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
• 47:03
SPEAKER_03: Well, and I mean look, it like I said, for uh when I said obvious reasons, I mean it's it's starting to get a little bit more cost prohibitive, you know.
• 47:12
SPEAKER_03: Um, especially for these kids that are just out of college and you know, do I eat tonight or do I buy a flat of shells, right?
• 47:18
SPEAKER_03: So it's it's one of those things.
• 47:20
SPEAKER_03: So it but it's understandable.
• 47:22
SPEAKER_03: I just wonder, I just wanted to get your opinion.
• 47:24
  SPEAKER_03: There's there's a million ideas out there.
• 47:26
SPEAKER_03: I think if any one of them would work, we'd be doing it, or at least I hope we would start doing it.
• 47:31
SPEAKER_03: Ed, you've been way too quiet over there, and I know you're I know you're good on the microphone because I've heard you yell one point every time I ask for a seven.
• 47:39
SPEAKER_03: Uh so um talk a little bit about our collaboration, Ed.
• 47:45
SPEAKER_03: This is kind of cool.
• 47:46
SPEAKER_03: So you're working together with the Dead Pear podcast, man.
• 47:49
SPEAKER_03: Tell everybody what that means for for them, for the listeners.
• 47:52
  SPEAKER_05: Well, that's it's exciting stuff, I hope, Jason.
• 47:55
SPEAKER_05: I've Jason and I have been talking back and forth for the last year about about just doing more uh updates and that sort of thing with make a break.
• 48:03
SPEAKER_05: As we get more traffic at the events and more people competing, more people uh trying to qualify and get in that top gun shootout on Saturday night.
• 48:12
SPEAKER_05: Uh, I was talking to Jason about it.
• 48:14
SPEAKER_05: I said, you know, I think uh we've started doing stuff with statistics for the year, like who kind of a point system based on the size of an event and how you place.
• 48:25
SPEAKER_05: And so we've been adding different features to that.
• 48:27
SPEAKER_05: So so to give people kind of uh more of an idea how big a fish they are in the pond, maybe so to speak.
• 48:33
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 48:33
SPEAKER_05: And uh and maybe to set a target, you know what I mean, for for where they want to get to.
• 48:38
SPEAKER_05: Uh and so so just the idea of being able to work with uh with the Dead Pear podcast and and talk more about what's going on in Make a Break, kind of like you do with some of the other disciplines.
• 48:48
SPEAKER_05: Uh give people an idea what's going on there.
• 48:50
SPEAKER_05: I guess one of the big underlying things with Make a Break, probably more so than the other disciplines, is we're really always in the background working on trying to get to TV, to the we still want to get that theatrical release movie done.
• 49:06
SPEAKER_05: Like we've got I've got more things swimming around in the background than metals.
• 49:11
SPEAKER_05: You might get there, eh?
• 49:14
SPEAKER_03: He's not gonna let that go, Ed.
• 49:16
SPEAKER_05: Jake, all I can say is you just heard Wayne say that the number one discipline is American trap.
• 49:21
SPEAKER_05: And so if 50% of the targets are American trap targets, more or less, the ones going away.
• 49:27
  SPEAKER_05: I've already got a ready-built audience.
• 49:29
SPEAKER_05: Do you see what I'm saying, Jake?
• 49:31
  SPEAKER_05: Oh man.
• 49:32
SPEAKER_09: I get the body, man, but you should probably change the ones.
• 49:36
SPEAKER_09: Incomers, at least for a year.
• 49:39
SPEAKER_03: You know, and the guy the the man's been a general manager of a gun club for 20 years, and he can't hit the one target.
• 49:44
SPEAKER_03: Now he wants you to change the game because he can't hit the one target.
• 49:49
SPEAKER_05: You know what's funny when I used to be down in Phoenix, Arizona in the winter times, uh, threw targets down there at a number of the clubs.
• 49:56
SPEAKER_05: And uh, and so when I started doing the make a break was 97, I want to say, that winter.
• 50:02
SPEAKER_05: And I actually set it up so that the ones were incomers a couple of times, and two things happened.
• 50:07
SPEAKER_05: I was amazed at how many more people missed the ones.
• 50:10
SPEAKER_05: Like you think people miss them going away.
• 50:11
SPEAKER_05: You should see them miss them coming in.
• 50:13
  SPEAKER_05: Really?
• 50:14
SPEAKER_05: So that was one one.
• 50:15
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I never would have guessed it either.
• 50:16
SPEAKER_05: I thought for sure the the rate would go up on on hitting those, but it would they a lot of people struggled.
• 50:22
SPEAKER_05: The second thing was the amount of time it took.
• 50:24
SPEAKER_05: So now you're waiting for each number one target to come in to get shot at, depending on where that person waits.
• 50:30
SPEAKER_05: You know, if they shoot it at the peak or shoot it just off the ground, all that kind of stuff.
• 50:34
SPEAKER_05: It may it slowed the game down.
• 50:35
SPEAKER_05: But we can throw them from the corner, Ed.
• 50:37
SPEAKER_05: I didn't say they had to be incomers, they can come from the corner and still be outgoers.
• 50:41
SPEAKER_05: So so the other thing that we're looking for when when Raymond did the design, the idea with the with the ones and the fact that there's two of them is so that no matter which one you get, Jake, is no matter which uh player you are on the stage, when you get done shooting at that one target, your muzzle is in the same position on the field.
• 51:00
SPEAKER_05: So there's never a disadvantage based on I got the left one or the right one, that sort of thing.
• 51:05
SPEAKER_05: So it's about it's about muzzle placement as well, so that it's it's uh fair for each competitor from as far as a starting point as they move to that next target.
• 51:14
SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, Ed, you you had mentioned like some production stuff and whatnot.
• 51:18
SPEAKER_03: And you know, I I guess this is where we got to put our hand out like it's Halloween or something.
• 51:23
SPEAKER_03: But uh so just to let everybody know, Ed and I are both looking for funding.
• 51:28
  SPEAKER_03: We're we're trying to film the Nationals make a break shoot-off.
• 51:32
SPEAKER_03: Um we want to do it live, okay?
• 51:34
SPEAKER_03: Not a video that's produced weeks later.
• 51:36
SPEAKER_03: We want to do it live.
• 51:38
SPEAKER_03: And unfortunately, live takes a little bit more money than just filming a video.
• 51:42
SPEAKER_03: Uh, we've got some really cool ideas, some theatrical stuff that we're gonna do.
• 51:47
SPEAKER_03: We'd like to put this together.
• 51:49
SPEAKER_03: So if anybody's interested in helping us out with that, get a hold of either myself or Ed, which by the way, going forward, I'll have a link to uh Top Gun Shooting Sports down in the podcast description.
• 52:01
SPEAKER_03: So check that out and get a hold of either myself or Ed.
• 52:05
SPEAKER_03: If you think you have an idea or if you would like to help us out, uh, we surely would would be interested in talking to you for sure.
• 52:12
  SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
• 52:13
SPEAKER_03: And and Ed and I I'll just go ahead and tease everybody.
• 52:16
SPEAKER_03: If we could come up with the funding, we want to do a make a break national someday.
• 52:19
SPEAKER_03: So that would be a lot of fun.
• 52:21
SPEAKER_03: Uh a lot of cool ideas with that, but that's that's one of those pie in the sky things.
• 52:26
SPEAKER_09: Uh, we're waiting on you got that trademark, Daddy.
• 52:30
SPEAKER_05: The pie the pie in the sky part or the trade or the make-a-break national.
• 52:37
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 52:38
SPEAKER_03: That that would be fun though.
• 52:39
SPEAKER_03: I mean, we listen, we want to do some cool stuff and we want to bring awareness to both the podcast and to type gun shooting sports, and Ed is such an integral part, and and I don't think Ed gets the credit because he's at all of these big shoots, and I'm telling you right now.
• 52:54
SPEAKER_03: Every single one, every single one.
• 52:56
SPEAKER_03: And if you uh a Friday or Saturday night at one of these shoots, where's the crowd at?
• 53:01
SPEAKER_03: It's at the makeup, right?
• 53:03
SPEAKER_03: But no, I think this is cool, and we're gonna have some fun with it.
• 53:06
SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're gonna be bringing you guys some updates from Ed as he goes to these shoots, lets you know where everybody's at, the point system, all that kind of thing.
• 53:14
SPEAKER_03: So I'm looking forward to it, Ed.
• 53:15
SPEAKER_03: I think this is gonna be fun.
• 53:17
  SPEAKER_05: Me too.
• 53:17
SPEAKER_05: I'm excited about it, Jason.
• 53:18
SPEAKER_05: I think, like you say, you've got a great group of listeners out there, and I think to like I said, this uh to kind of work on that same.
• 53:26
SPEAKER_05: I've listened to a lot of your podcasts where you've asked that question about retention and the future and all of that sort of stuff.
• 53:33
SPEAKER_05: And and like you say, there's a lot of ideas, but I I believe that if we can get if we can get this to TV, if we can get this more center stage, uh, more people are going to notice.
• 53:43
SPEAKER_05: And just like, and I think Wayne would attest to National Shooting Sports Foundation initially starting that the SCTP and getting the trap shooting thing going in the high schools.
• 53:53
SPEAKER_05: I mean, look at look at what that's built that didn't that didn't exist whatever 20 years ago.
• 53:58
SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
• 53:59
SPEAKER_05: Like just the incredible number of kids that have gone through those programs.
• 54:03
SPEAKER_05: And then to your point, like we see some of the college kids stay with it, but then there's others that have come back now.
• 54:09
SPEAKER_05: I've just seen there's been a bet a dozen or so just this year specifically where they I hadn't seen them in 10 years or something.
• 54:15
SPEAKER_05: They come back and like, you're still doing makeover, and and they're like excited, they've right, they've got a job now.
• 54:21
SPEAKER_05: Uh that's that's somebody else wants it's got a little more, provides a little more uh extra income.
• 54:28
SPEAKER_05: And so they you know what I mean?
• 54:29
SPEAKER_05: They're back at the tournaments, they're playing there, and and all of them said, I just can't believe how much I miss this.
• 54:35
SPEAKER_05: Seeing seeing all these all the people you know that they used to hang out with and stuff, and are are are the majority of them, you know.
• 54:40
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's and you guys know as well as anybody that it's a it's a great community, you know what I mean, as far as just wonderful people to be around.
• 54:47
SPEAKER_05: So, like I say, so I I think again, the the more people that we can bring in to the program, whether they whether that just shapes their attitude about firearms in the future and about those kind of laws, whether they participate, then have their families participate, even if it's just occasional recreational uh shooting.
• 55:06
SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
• 55:06
SPEAKER_05: It's just the whole thing is nothing but a net plus for us.
• 55:10
SPEAKER_05: And if we can take, if we can use a vehicle like Make a Break to finally hit that mainstream, it's gonna bring people into all the disciplines, is gonna be the end result.
• 55:20
  SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
• 55:20
SPEAKER_03: And that's you know, that that's kind of the whole point of what we're doing here tonight is to bring awareness to everyone and just how important the youth shooting is.
• 55:29
SPEAKER_03: You know, that that's one of the reasons why I partnered with Midway USA Foundation.
• 55:33
SPEAKER_03: Look, they're gonna do$500 million to youth shooting this year.
• 55:37
  SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's that's huge, right?
• 55:39
  SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's think about that's half a billion dollars.
• 55:43
SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, so it's it's that kind of thing, you know.
• 55:46
SPEAKER_03: And you know, Wayne, thank you very much for coming on, spending some time with us.
• 55:50
SPEAKER_03: I mean, look, if if y'all haven't been to the SCTP Nationals, get your butt to the Cardinal Center next week and check this out.
• 55:56
SPEAKER_03: Because I'm gonna tell you right now, you think the national championship for sporting clays is big, you ain't seen nothing.
• 56:02
SPEAKER_03: Okay, like it's don't don't plan on moving real fast.
• 56:06
SPEAKER_03: Grand American, you ain't seen nothing.
• 56:08
SPEAKER_03: You ain't seen nothing, right.
• 56:09
SPEAKER_03: But it's it's really cool, and it's I think the the the coolest part of it to me, and I think both Wayne, Jake, and Ed, you all can agree with me, you will never find a group of more respectful youth in your life, as you will, on that grounds for those 10 days of the SCTP Nationals.
• 56:32
SPEAKER_03: I mean, these kids you you watch this crap on the news or on YouTube or any kind of Facebook reel or whatever, and these kids acting like idiots.
• 56:43
SPEAKER_03: You go to the SCTP Nationals and you're like, what world am I in?
• 56:46
SPEAKER_03: These kids are respectful, they're they're disciplined.
• 56:50
SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's incredible to see, and they're all shooting firearms.
• 56:54
SPEAKER_03: And here's the cool thing nobody leaves with a band aid, right?
• 56:58
SPEAKER_03: Show me a high school football game where that happens.
• 57:01
  SPEAKER_03: Can't do it.
• 57:02
SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
• 57:02
SPEAKER_03: It's the safest sport in the world, and that's that I don't think that point is pushed enough.
• 57:07
SPEAKER_03: I mean, we have almost three thousand over 3,000 kids that are gonna be competing, following what'd you say, 1.7 million rounds, Wayne?
• 57:15
SPEAKER_03: Uh per registration is right now, yeah.
• 57:18
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and what's the injury gonna be?
• 57:20
SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
• 57:21
  SPEAKER_03: Like some somebody.
• 57:25
  SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, and it's it's important, folks.
• 57:28
SPEAKER_03: And look, I'm sorry we don't have a national champion on here telling you how to swing through a target this week, but I think this is just as important and having this knowledge and this important.
• 57:41
SPEAKER_09: How do you follow up what Ed said?
• 57:43
  SPEAKER_09: Right?
• 57:43
SPEAKER_09: Anything we gain out of this, whether we retain them from 25 for the rest of their life, or if we lose them for a little bit, but they come back, it's all a net plus.
• 57:54
  SPEAKER_09: Yes, absolutely.
• 57:55
SPEAKER_09: It's all a net plus goes back to your mission statement, Jason.
• 58:00
SPEAKER_01: How how many parents have started shooting because their athlete started in a program?
• 58:06
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 58:07
SPEAKER_01: And now that never shot before.
• 58:08
SPEAKER_01: Now the parents are there.
• 58:10
SPEAKER_01: And I've seen it and it happened to me.
• 58:14
SPEAKER_01: My I didn't shoot a lot when my daughters were competing.
• 58:19
SPEAKER_01: One because couldn't afford it.
• 58:22
SPEAKER_01: Um that I'm not paying for their competitions, I get to shoot every now and again, and I'm kind of enjoying it again.
• 58:30
SPEAKER_01: So I mean it it's as the athletes age out of the program, parents continue in the program, and that just brings the athlete back sooner as well.
• 58:40
  SPEAKER_01: Yes.
• 58:40
SPEAKER_01: So it's it's the sport where you can have mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, kids, and grandkids all out around the court shooting together.
• 58:49
SPEAKER_01: So it's it's show me another sport that you can do that.
• 58:52
  SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
• 58:53
  SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
• 58:54
  SPEAKER_03: You see that, Ed?
• 58:55
SPEAKER_03: So Wayne's still handing you$20 bills, it's just for a different purpose now.
• 59:02
SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna miss the one.
• 59:07
SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, I had to make a joke there.
• 59:10
  SPEAKER_03: That is so true.
• 59:11
SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, I mean, you think about other sports.
• 59:14
SPEAKER_03: Do you think you're gonna go play you think your kid is gonna go play basketball with LeBron?
• 59:19
  SPEAKER_03: No.
• 59:19
  SPEAKER_03: But guess what?
• 59:20
SPEAKER_03: He can get squatted with a national champion, a world champion.
• 59:23
SPEAKER_03: You know, that's the awesome thing about our sport.
• 59:25
SPEAKER_03: And, you know, I I think it's LCTP is very undercredited, I guess, is gonna be my statement.
• 59:34
SPEAKER_03: And I think more people need to give it a little bit more attention.
• 59:38
SPEAKER_03: And I think it's awesome, Ed, what you're doing.
• 59:41
SPEAKER_03: Um, and these numbers you just threw at me, I cannot believe 5,200 rounds.
• 59:46
SPEAKER_03: Is that what you said?
• 59:47
  SPEAKER_03: 5,200 rounds of make a break?
• 59:50
  SPEAKER_05: It's it's a and I but your point about about kids.
• 59:53
SPEAKER_05: I mean, Jake had mentioned uh uh other sports disciplines and stuff.
• 59:57
SPEAKER_05: So obviously you can't get on the football field, or you're probably not gonna get on the basketball court with a young high school kid if you're grandpa, for example.
• 1:00:05
  SPEAKER_05: Right.
• 1:00:05
SPEAKER_05: But at the SCTP Nationals, grandpa and grandson or son get up on the make a break stage and go head to head, and they have some of the best matches you'll ever see.
• 1:00:15
SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
• 1:00:16
SPEAKER_05: They're they've they come off of there laughing and having the time of their lives.
• 1:00:19
SPEAKER_05: Honestly, it's uh to Wayne's point, the coaches a lot of times the the coaches will come up and is can ask me, can can coaches shoot make a break?
• 1:00:26
SPEAKER_05: Is it okay if we're like, of course, yeah.
• 1:00:29
SPEAKER_05: So so just that dynamic.
• 1:00:32
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, exactly.
• 1:00:33
SPEAKER_05: But that dynamic of it you don't really ever age out of the shooting game, you know what I mean?
• 1:00:39
SPEAKER_05: Like there's there's that that that recreational aspect and and the fact that it's something that you can enjoy with somebody of all ages is is very unique compared to other sports.
• 1:00:48
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for sure, 100%.
• 1:00:50
SPEAKER_03: Go and go, yes, go and go.
• 1:00:53
SPEAKER_03: Well, Ed Wayne, thank you both very much, man.
• 1:00:56
SPEAKER_03: I appreciate you spending some time with us.
• 1:00:58
SPEAKER_03: Um, and obviously, we're gonna be talking to you a lot more in the very near future.
• 1:01:02
SPEAKER_03: Wayne, good luck to you next week.
• 1:01:04
SPEAKER_03: I I wish you the best and success.
• 1:01:07
SPEAKER_03: If you want to drop in and give us some final numbers, that'd be awesome.
• 1:01:10
SPEAKER_03: Maybe do a little bit of a follow-up with you.
• 1:01:12
  SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think that'd be cool.
• 1:01:13
  SPEAKER_01: Not a problem.
• 1:01:14
SPEAKER_01: Just tell me when you want to meet.
• 1:01:16
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, that's that's awesome.
• 1:01:17
  SPEAKER_03: I appreciate it.
• 1:01:18
SPEAKER_03: And I'm telling you, everybody that's listening, if you have the opportunity next week to get over to the Cardinal Center, you gotta if you've never been there, you're doing yourself a huge discredit.
• 1:01:28
SPEAKER_03: You gotta check this out.
• 1:01:29
SPEAKER_03: And I think, Jake, don't they still throw the SCTP benefit tournament there?
• 1:01:33
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
• 1:01:34
SPEAKER_09: It'll be four or five hundred.
• 1:01:36
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, open to the public.
• 1:01:37
SPEAKER_03: So yeah, and if nothing else, I know Ed'll throw you some make a break targets regardless whether you're gonna shoot in the tournament or not.
• 1:01:45
SPEAKER_09: He'll be there until next.
• 1:01:47
SPEAKER_09: And it'll be there for like three weeks, throwing make-a break targets if you'd like.
• 1:01:57
  SPEAKER_09: There you go.
• 1:01:58
  SPEAKER_09: Perfect.
• 1:01:59
SPEAKER_05: So, I have one other thing I gotta throw in here.
• 1:02:01
SPEAKER_05: You're gonna want you're gonna want to check out Thursday night with this make-a-break uh in the team events.
• 1:02:06
SPEAKER_05: So, just to give a little background, the Manchester Young Guns took the Raymond Foreman Make-A-Break trophy for the first time four years ago.
• 1:02:13
SPEAKER_05: Then it was the four city juniors in year two, and now the last two years in a row, the Hunting Hills Hawkeyes are the national make-a-break champions, and they have it in their mind that they're gonna come and do the three-peat.
• 1:02:26
SPEAKER_05: So I just want to throw it out there to these other teams.
• 1:02:29
  SPEAKER_05: There's you know what I mean?
• 1:02:31
SPEAKER_05: Somebody, somebody needs to be checked, I think.
• 1:02:33
SPEAKER_05: You know, just just saying, but it's gonna be exciting.
• 1:02:36
SPEAKER_05: I guarantee you that the eight teams that are gonna be in there are gonna be some of the best shots in the nation, and it's gonna be an amazing show.
• 1:02:44
SPEAKER_09: You gotta look out for those kids from Savannah, yeah, Jason.
• 1:02:47
SPEAKER_09: You gotta look out for those kids from Savannah.
• 1:02:50
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's that's awesome, man.
• 1:02:53
  SPEAKER_03: How exciting, you know.
• 1:02:54
  SPEAKER_03: I mean, how cool.
• 1:02:55
SPEAKER_03: And I love seeing kids doing well anyway, right?
• 1:02:58
SPEAKER_03: Like it, that that to me is the enjoyment I get out of watching kids break targets, is I don't know.
• 1:03:04
SPEAKER_03: Maybe I'm just old, but uh well, I'll tell you how old I am.
• 1:03:08
SPEAKER_03: I ran across some paperwork from my dad the other day when we had our own little course at the house back in the 90s.
• 1:03:13
SPEAKER_03: He was buying a whole bunch of targets, and I found a receipt where he paid six dollars, five dollars and sixty cents a box for clay targets.
• 1:03:25
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was a few years ago.
• 1:03:27
SPEAKER_01: Can we go back to that price?
• 1:03:28
SPEAKER_03: Oh man, I would love to.
• 1:03:30
SPEAKER_03: What are they are they about 19 a box now?
• 1:03:35
  SPEAKER_05: Right, right in there.
• 1:03:36
SPEAKER_05: Delivered their uh 16, 17, easy for sure.
• 1:03:39
  SPEAKER_05: Oh my goodness.
• 1:03:40
  SPEAKER_03: Holy cow.
• 1:03:40
  SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm old.
• 1:03:41
SPEAKER_03: All right, we're we're gonna end on that note, but uh and Wayne, thank you both very much, man.
• 1:03:47
SPEAKER_03: Appreciate you guys spending some time with us.
• 1:03:49
  SPEAKER_05: Thank you, Jason.
• 1:03:56
SPEAKER_03: Well, Jake, what do you think, buddy?
• 1:03:58
SPEAKER_03: You were a part of the SCTP Nationals for 10 years, is that correct?
• 1:04:03
  SPEAKER_03: Yes, sir.
• 1:04:04
  SPEAKER_03: Man, that's a long run.
• 1:04:06
  SPEAKER_09: It's a special shoe, Jason.
• 1:04:08
SPEAKER_09: I mean, it is it's I mean, I don't know how you follow up what Ed said about what it means.
• 1:04:14
SPEAKER_09: I mean, I sat next to Brain Duff Potterfield last year at opening ceremonies, which I host on Wednesday.
• 1:04:21
SPEAKER_09: And she looked at me and she said, How many kids' lives have we impacted?
• 1:04:27
SPEAKER_09: You know, when you're sitting there walking, watching them walk in with their state flags and they're announcing state teams and all state teams.
• 1:04:36
  SPEAKER_09: And it's special.
• 1:04:38
SPEAKER_09: It's a big deal to them, you know?
• 1:04:40
  SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's a special thing.
• 1:04:41
  SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
• 1:04:42
SPEAKER_03: I mean, if you think about it, it's building a foundation for our the future of our sport, right?
• 1:04:47
SPEAKER_03: Whether you're on the trap side, the skeet side, or the sporting side, it's no matter what, these kids are building the foundation for what's next.
• 1:04:55
SPEAKER_03: And if we want to preserve our sport beyond us, this stuff's important.
• 1:05:01
SPEAKER_03: I mean, it really is.
• 1:05:02
  SPEAKER_03: You know, I I I don't know.
• 1:05:04
SPEAKER_03: It's we can we can dive deeper into that.
• 1:05:06
SPEAKER_03: I think we'll save that for another episode, but I don't think SCTP gets credit that it's due.
• 1:05:13
  SPEAKER_09: 100%, 100% agree.
• 1:05:16
SPEAKER_09: And like and like Wayne said, so when you go to Nationals, you see the same people year in, year out, right, Jace?
• 1:05:22
  SPEAKER_09: Right.
• 1:05:23
  SPEAKER_09: NCA Nationals.
• 1:05:24
SPEAKER_09: When you go to NCTP Nationals, every five, six years you see new people.
• 1:05:28
SPEAKER_09: Every year you see new people that have never been there before, never experienced anything like that before, never seen gun vendors like that before, alienation manufacturers before they haven't seen that before.
• 1:05:39
  SPEAKER_04: Right.
• 1:05:39
SPEAKER_09: Brand new, you know, and that is uh those become core memories with those kids.
• 1:05:45
  SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
• 1:05:46
SPEAKER_03: Like I said, the thrill on those kids' face, I mean, through all of it, the whole experience of it, it's it's really cool to see.
• 1:05:52
SPEAKER_03: And I've I've spent a lot of time in the vendor booths with you know sponsors of the show, and of course, you know, I've been there helping you.
• 1:06:00
SPEAKER_03: when I can and of course competing in the in the uh tournament uh that's held every year there at that shoot and it's just it's really cool to see it's something you have to experience and I wish more people would go just to just to lend support and be there and and experience it themselves and have some fun shooting right like even if you're not a kid you can still go there and shoot and have a good time.
• 1:06:25
SPEAKER_09: What's the mission statement Jason to take somebody new shooting.
• 1:06:28
  SPEAKER_03: That's right.
• 1:06:29
SPEAKER_09: And that's that that is a perfect atmosphere right that's as big as it gets yeah shouldn't be any expectations I mean just go have fun because that's what it's about.
• 1:06:39
  SPEAKER_03: Right.
• 1:06:40
SPEAKER_03: That's what it's all about you you you took the you took you took my line from me that every week you know take someone new shooting take on the turn I got one continue my questions all night I finally got one you got one you know that that's something too just real quick is you know my daughter has like no it had no interest in shooting and I took her with me one year uh wife was at work and I had an opportunity to run up there so I took my daughter with me during the SCTP nationals and when she saw those kids shooting oh all of a sudden this was looked really cool and a lot of fun right so um you know maybe do it that way if your kid has no interest in it and you'd really like him to get into shooting take him up there just walk around I guarantee before it's over with dad can we get a gun so dad can I try this you know it's coming trust me at very least can I try this right that's at the very least can I try this that's where it starts absolutely um very big thank you to all of our sponsors uh it the the show has ran long um I'm not I don't want to sit here and name off all of our sponsors listen Toby Tomplay did a great job with our new outro please give him the credit of at least listening to that on the way out thank you to all of our sponsors man that they've helped us huge um you know we have discounts through three of them of course we have the Kohler Dead Pearl Raffle going on there's links to all of our sponsors down in the show description I sound like a broken record every week but I mean it people they really do truly help us out and I hope that everybody is patronizing them or at least giving them a shot because there's great people behind all these products.
• 1:08:23
SPEAKER_03: Get over to our swag page check out these new coolers from Big Frig.
• 1:08:27
SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you Jake you you looked at them when we were on the break there and you you really like those things.
• 1:08:31
