- 0:09Speaker 1: Better than box scores. Let's preview Game three of the ALCS.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Well Blue Jays fans, if you're concerned about your team
- 0:18Speaker 1: in this series, let us introduce you to George Kirby,
- 0:22Speaker 1: who is very nasty, very nasty.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Listen, Shane Bieber is not too bad either. No, I
- 0:30Speaker 2: gotta be If there's a guy that you needed right now,
- 0:35Speaker 2: that that's probably your guy, George Kirby at home. Oh god, Cratzy,
- 0:41Speaker 2: this guy has been dominant. He's a name that we've
- 0:44Speaker 2: always talked about over the last some odd years. He
- 0:47Speaker 2: can pitch and he loves this moment. He loves it,
- 0:50Speaker 2: so I think he's ready to rock. Oh boy, this
- 0:54Speaker 2: could be some trouble. And you see the Mariners. Guess
- 0:56Speaker 2: what they're hitting now, boys, watch out for this squad
- 0:59Speaker 2: there clicking on all cylinders. Polanco. I mean Jesus, this
- 1:04Speaker 2: guy has been incredible and he's been doing it for
- 1:06Speaker 2: a long time.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and he throws a ton of strikes, sometimes to
- 1:09Speaker 1: his detriment. Either there's so many strikes. He's so efficient,
- 1:12Speaker 1: crats that he does give up a decent amount of
- 1:15Speaker 1: homers because he's all over the zone. So he can
- 1:17Speaker 1: be susceptible at times. He has big home roads blitz.
- 1:20Speaker 1: That's probably why the Mariners are lining him up in Seattle.
- 1:24Speaker 1: But how did the Blue Jays climb back into this series.
- 1:30Speaker 3: By not trying to get those homers? Like he's going
- 1:33Speaker 3: to be in the zone, So the Jays don't have
- 1:35Speaker 3: to like control the zone, but they need to play
- 1:38Speaker 3: their game. Don't go to Seattle and go, gee, let's
- 1:42Speaker 3: see if the ball is traveling. It's not. It's not,
- 1:46Speaker 3: And that's okay because the Jays don't need to live
- 1:50Speaker 3: and breathe on on the on the home run like,
- 1:55Speaker 3: they don't have to, like, you got your homers, it's okay.
- 1:58Speaker 3: But to me, they got they got to be able
- 2:00Speaker 3: to win a three to two ball game down in Seattle.
- 2:06Speaker 1: That's possible.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Oh, it definitely is. But excuse me. They got to
- 2:11Speaker 2: keep them the runs down. So that's the other thing.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So on their side, Yeah, the bullpen's really the big
- 2:17Speaker 1: difference right now for me. I mean, I was on
- 2:20Speaker 1: the Seattle radio show today and we were kind of
- 2:23Speaker 1: sizing up both squads, and obviously the offense has shown
- 2:25Speaker 1: up for the Mariners so far, but the Blue Jays
- 2:28Speaker 1: have a solid offense. The thing for me, Kratz is
- 2:30Speaker 1: the difference in depth for the Mariners with their bullpen.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Their circle of trust is large right now. When Bizardo
- 2:36Speaker 1: can give you two scoreless innings every other game right now,
- 2:39Speaker 1: and obviously Brash and Mino is at the back end
- 2:42Speaker 1: is great, and it's better than what the Blue Jays have.
- 2:44Speaker 1: There's a big difference there. They've got a money bullpen
- 2:48Speaker 1: to go along with three, if not four, solid starters.
- 2:52Speaker 1: If Brian wu comes back, we're actually five, I should say, really, right,
- 2:55Speaker 1: because you've got Bryce Miller and he looks better than
- 3:00Speaker 1: he did early on in the season too, So you've
- 3:02Speaker 1: got five starters. One of them could move to the
- 3:04Speaker 1: bullpen and make it even more dangerous.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah, the pitching advantage is one hundred percent in the
- 3:10Speaker 3: Mariners favor, and so you want to go to a
- 3:13Speaker 3: park that the pitching advantage kind of becomes neutral. Not
- 3:18Speaker 3: the case in Seattle. But how this has gone like
- 3:24Speaker 3: to me, I didn't see them losing two at home
- 3:27Speaker 3: like the Jays were playing hot. They were, in my opinion,
- 3:31Speaker 3: they were dominating the Yankees for the most part, and
- 3:35Speaker 3: the Mariners came in and said, yeah, I get it.
- 3:38Speaker 3: We looked bad against a team who couldn't score any
- 3:41Speaker 3: runs and the Tigers, but we beat Trek's Google twice,
- 3:45Speaker 3: so we have that going on for us. I just
- 3:48Speaker 3: felt like coming into the series has not played out
- 3:51Speaker 3: the way that is going right now, and to me,
- 3:53Speaker 3: that should be scary for even the two National League teams.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Whoever wins it that goes up against if it's the Mariners,
- 4:00Speaker 3: the Mariners are just getting better as the postseason goes on.
- 4:03Speaker 3: They're getting more experience because a lot of these guys
- 4:06Speaker 3: don't have a ton of postseason experience. And don't ever
- 4:09Speaker 3: bet against the year of Cal. Okay, that's it. If
- 4:12Speaker 3: you ever need an answer why the Mariners will win,
- 4:15Speaker 3: don't bet against the year of Cal.
- 4:18Speaker 1: That is true. Do you know who else stands out
- 4:21Speaker 1: besides Cal? And of course Polanco has been very clutch
- 4:24Speaker 1: for them. I mean, Julio Rodriguez has come up in
- 4:28Speaker 1: some big moments. Sometimes you got to look away from
- 4:31Speaker 1: the batting average and ops and a short sample during
- 4:33Speaker 1: the postseason and look at the timeliness. Nobody's got more
- 4:36Speaker 1: timeliness than Polanco. But Julio already in a couple rounds,
- 4:41Speaker 1: has had huge, huge clutch knocks for them, and I
- 4:45Speaker 1: think that he's a different ballplayer this year in terms
- 4:48Speaker 1: of where we'd see him press. I know it often
- 4:51Speaker 1: came at the beginning of a season. It felt like
- 4:54Speaker 1: it was Julio and the Mariners. Now it's Cal and
- 4:56Speaker 1: the Mariners, and it's a one through nine that's legit.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So there were times where you'd look at his abs
- 5:02Speaker 1: and you're just like, what, he doesn't swing at that,
- 5:05Speaker 1: But he does right now for a month or two,
- 5:07Speaker 1: and then he gets himself into a rut and then
- 5:09Speaker 1: his numbers look bad and things can tumble. I don't
- 5:13Speaker 1: think we have that version of Julio anymore. Even listen
- 5:15Speaker 1: to a TV broadcast right like a postseason game. You know,
- 5:18Speaker 1: Prazinski and Wuno and Adam, I mean, were just on
- 5:20Speaker 1: the last round and now you've got Smoltz and Joe Davis.
- 5:24Speaker 1: They're not spending a large chunk of the broadcast talking
- 5:27Speaker 1: about Julio. He's just one of the parts of this
- 5:30Speaker 1: great team. In the past, it was like, well, Julio's
- 5:34Speaker 1: got to step up, he's gotta have a huge game,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and now he doesn't. But when he does, it's great
- 5:38Speaker 1: for them. Don't you feel like this is by far
- 5:40Speaker 1: the best lineup he's ever been a part of.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I would agree with you on that front, But I
- 5:44Speaker 2: also think clutch times ask for clutch players, and this
- 5:48Speaker 2: is playoff time. This is a playoff guy that finally
- 5:51Speaker 2: gets in a little bit and all of a sudden,
- 5:53Speaker 2: here he goes he's taking off these phenomenal baseball player
- 5:57Speaker 2: big double he had in the bottom of the eighth
- 5:59Speaker 2: to propel them to get a victory, and then all
- 6:02Speaker 2: of a sudden, the three run homer. Like the guy's
- 6:04Speaker 2: clicking on all cylinders and he's not doing it like
- 6:08Speaker 2: Cockerly or Fancily if that's even a fancy Jesus fancily
- 6:11Speaker 2: fancy at all. Like he's just going about his business
- 6:14Speaker 2: and being a ballplayer and not worrying about all the
- 6:17Speaker 2: jazz and glitz and everything else. Just go out and play.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And it's been very, very nice to lot. I'm making
- 6:24Speaker 2: up words here as I go on.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Cratch you have to use Cockley and Fancily. Never you're
- 6:28Speaker 1: about to say.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Fancily, Okay, Josh Naylor is definitely running the bases, and
- 6:39Speaker 4: Fancily is when there's up in each area I don't know.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Julio Rodriguez may not be that poster child that the
- 6:50Speaker 3: Mariners organization has tabbed him to be. I remember, he's
- 6:55Speaker 3: also twenty four. Like, this guy's a you know, he's
- 6:59Speaker 3: somewhere between superstar and All star status. Like he's a
- 7:04Speaker 3: great piece to the organization. But just as we talked
- 7:07Speaker 3: about the last three years man this team in the playoffs,
- 7:11Speaker 3: they've had the pitching, why can't we add to the offense.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I don't think there's anybody that's benefited more from Auhinio
- 7:19Speaker 3: Suarez and Josh Naylor coming into this lineup than Julio Rodriguez. Yes,
- 7:26Speaker 3: Cal has taken a lot of the weight off of
- 7:28Speaker 3: Julio's shoulders, and it's not something I think that weighs
- 7:31Speaker 3: on him every day. I just think it's something that
- 7:34Speaker 3: teams can't just go, ah, Julio swing at anything, woop woop,
- 7:40Speaker 3: just throwing balls way out of the zone and Julio
- 7:43Speaker 3: strikes out. Well, why did Julio strike out because he
- 7:46Speaker 3: had to get the job done. Now he doesn't need
- 7:48Speaker 3: to because Josh Naylor is going to have a ten
- 7:50Speaker 3: pitch at that he's gonna steal second base when the
- 7:53Speaker 3: team's not looking any slow. Auhenio Suarez has always has
- 7:56Speaker 3: a chance to hit a homer. Guy had forty nine
- 7:58Speaker 3: bingers this year. So they added this is around and
- 8:01Speaker 3: already really really good player in jo it enables him
- 8:05Speaker 3: to shine.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, you want cockle. It is of all, we
- 8:10Speaker 1: got the definition. It's apparently a real word.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It is a real word. Kaka is an adverb. And
- 8:14Speaker 2: I was actually right by saying it. The act in
- 8:17Speaker 2: an overly bold, arrogant or self confident way. So he's
- 8:20Speaker 2: not acting cokally exactly. I was spot on with Rodriguez's term.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the Mariners offense boom, thank you. Okay,
- 8:29Speaker 1: education with Todd father.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I know, I know I've gotten some I can't believe.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I was okay about fancily, I said, fantally, you.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Can look up while I just mentioned this part about Julio.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So I know that the Blue Jays tied the game up,
- 8:47Speaker 1: and then obviously the Mariners took off again.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:49Speaker 1: This was a three to three game. Mariner scored seven
- 8:51Speaker 1: unanswered runs to end up winning this. But for me,
- 8:55Speaker 1: of course, he set the tone. It's a scoreless game
- 8:57Speaker 1: where the first inning Trey is savage is coming off
- 9:01Speaker 1: a ridiculously dominant performance against the Yankees. Five and a
- 9:04Speaker 1: third hit list, eleven strikeouts, two base runners. He looked
- 9:08Speaker 1: like he should have been, as Kratz would say, sometimes
- 9:10Speaker 1: promoted to another level because this level of hitters could
- 9:14Speaker 1: not handle him. Julio's like, cool, splitter hanger, there's one.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna smash it. Obviously he did make it three
- 9:21Speaker 1: nothing stayed back, was able to pull it fair, and
- 9:23Speaker 1: I think that really set the tone where they're like, hey,
- 9:27Speaker 1: right now, this is the nastiest that they have to offer,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and we're still beating it. And the confidence factor was there,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and they were excited to crack open the bullpen because
- 9:36Speaker 1: that's the weak spot for this team. So super I
- 9:38Speaker 1: don't want to say underrated part of that game one,
- 9:41Speaker 1: but it was so far back in the beginning that
- 9:44Speaker 1: I just want to make sure it gets a lot
- 9:45Speaker 1: of left because it was huge for Julio. Did we
- 9:47Speaker 1: find out if fancy.
- 9:49Speaker 2: An elaborate show were decorative way often with excessive ornamentation
- 9:53Speaker 2: or unnecessary complexity.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Mic drop, mic drop, I am smart. Yeah. If you
- 10:01Speaker 1: have a spelling bee coming up, Todd Father.
- 10:04Speaker 2: You can picture you because it's the words that I've
- 10:08Speaker 2: never really used.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I thought that you were thinking fancy and hockey and
- 10:13Speaker 1: you just put an illy.
- 10:14Speaker 2: On really and guess what you put an early on anything?
- 10:17Speaker 2: It's like putting ketchup on anything. It'll taste good.
- 10:20Speaker 1: How you don't you can put an illy on anything.
- 10:24Speaker 1: That's how we talk about the ALCS. Well, we're going

- 11:36Speaker 2: Were you leading into that dog Eddings? That's while you
- 11:40Speaker 2: brought up umpires and San Diego? Maybe maybe Hey.
- 11:44Speaker 1: If you were catching us on YouTube during the break,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I was leading you into this one. Doug Eddings missed
- 11:49Speaker 1: twenty four calls in ALCS Game two. Did it matter? No,
- 11:53Speaker 1: the matners smacked the Blue Jays. But or some people
- 11:56Speaker 1: are going to go against me now and say one
- 11:57Speaker 1: pitch could change everything, that's fair. Sure, this was the
- 12:00Speaker 1: worst called playoff game since October seventh, twenty twenty two,
- 12:04Speaker 1: a game also called by pop Quiz who called it
- 12:09Speaker 1: Douglas Ettings. So here's my thing. He had a bad game. Okay,
- 12:15Speaker 1: the last time we saw a game this bad was
- 12:17Speaker 1: him unless he is much better right in the regular season,
- 12:23Speaker 1: which I don't think he is Why is he calling
- 12:26Speaker 1: playoff games behind the plate? Even when we get abs okay,
- 12:31Speaker 1: ABS challenge system is not going to fix every call.
- 12:34Speaker 1: They're not going to fix twenty four misses. You can't
- 12:36Speaker 1: challenge all of those calls. And I get it. There
- 12:39Speaker 1: are some that are on the border, but there are
- 12:40Speaker 1: plenty that are not. What are we doing?
- 12:45Speaker 3: Why is he calling this?
- 12:46Speaker 1: I don't get it. Crats, these are big, big misses,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and they were timely misses too, for both sides. Why
- 12:52Speaker 1: is he calling pitches? Like I get it? We have
- 12:55Speaker 1: a process in placement. We got to switch the process.
- 12:58Speaker 1: You need the best guys behind the plate call in
- 13:00Speaker 1: balls and strikes during the game's biggest moments. You can't
- 13:03Speaker 1: do it for every single regular season game. You gotta rotate.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You don't have to rotate as much in the playoffs.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me why everybody gets a turn?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Why is this everybody to get a medal for umpiring
- 13:14Speaker 1: behind the plate in the postseason? It's funny. What's the
- 13:19Speaker 1: money part?
- 13:20Speaker 3: Yeah, the contracts, the union contract that they signed. The
- 13:23Speaker 3: umpire's union contract stipulates that it is a rotating tenure
- 13:29Speaker 3: based but also a little bit towards the World Series
- 13:33Speaker 3: a little bit merit based too. It should be all
- 13:37Speaker 3: merit based, because there's no like the A's don't get
- 13:42Speaker 3: in because they have neat uniforms this year, or because
- 13:45Speaker 3: it's been a few years since they've gotten in. They
- 13:47Speaker 3: don't get into the playoffs and like, oh, just get
- 13:49Speaker 3: to play a meaningless first round game. You know they
- 13:52Speaker 3: probably lose anyway, It's all merit based. This is the
- 13:55Speaker 3: time of the season where it's all merit based. Even
- 13:57Speaker 3: if you don't think the regular season is merit based,
- 14:00Speaker 3: disagree with you. Because the best players stay in the
- 14:03Speaker 3: big leagues, the worst players get sent down to Triple A.
- 14:08Speaker 3: It should not be different in for umpires. It should
- 14:11Speaker 3: not be different in the playoffs. It is merit based.
- 14:14Speaker 3: This team played well enough to go and play in
- 14:18Speaker 3: the playoffs. They beat the next team. Now that means
- 14:21Speaker 3: they played better, so they moved on. You called a
- 14:24Speaker 3: great game, You move on. You do this twice. If
- 14:27Speaker 3: you have the two worst games behind the dish. Guess what, Doug,
- 14:31Speaker 3: you get to still be in the series. But you're
- 14:34Speaker 3: gonna be in left, you're gonna be in right. We
- 14:37Speaker 3: might even keep you at third base. It's totally fine.
- 14:39Speaker 3: I like Doug. He's a little gruff, he's a little
- 14:41Speaker 3: you know, he's not quite as talkative as I would like.
- 14:44Speaker 3: But you're just not going to get behind the dish.
- 14:47Speaker 1: That's my point. Behind the dish is sacred, especially during
- 14:51Speaker 1: these moments. But wait, there's more. It could get worse
- 14:55Speaker 1: for those of you who have a dog in the fight,
- 14:57Speaker 1: in the alcs or just want to see balls and
- 15:00Speaker 1: strikes called properly. Eddings is ranked thirtieth out of ninety
- 15:03Speaker 1: two umps incorrect call percentage this season. Next up will
- 15:07Speaker 1: be Ben May in Game three. He ranks twenty first. Okay,
- 15:10Speaker 1: he's almost a top twenty ump. Game four, Alfonso Marquez
- 15:14Speaker 1: ranks eighty five out of ninety two MPs. Game five
- 15:17Speaker 1: Marvin Hudson ranks eighty out of ninety two MPs. What
- 15:21Speaker 1: the hell are we doing?
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, don't know, don't know what I think.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I need to talk to somebody. Somebody has to answer
- 15:33Speaker 1: for this though. You are out of touch with reality
- 15:37Speaker 1: because there are a bunch of people watching the game
- 15:39Speaker 1: on its biggest stage and laughing or complaining and saying
- 15:44Speaker 1: why is this managed this way? If you come out
- 15:46Speaker 1: and say Hey, listen, all the umps would have been
- 15:49Speaker 1: on strike forever if we didn't play it out exactly
- 15:51Speaker 1: this way. At least we got an explanation.
- 15:55Speaker 2: There's not I think part of it is younger guys too.
- 15:58Speaker 2: They're not letting him get a chance. I don't know
- 16:02Speaker 2: what their iota is, what their messages to these guys,
- 16:06Speaker 2: so I don't know. I don't know. They've got to
- 16:09Speaker 2: get better.
- 16:10Speaker 1: It's very frustrating to it.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I know what the message is. You hang around long enough,
- 16:17Speaker 3: your salary is going to continue to go up. You
- 16:19Speaker 3: don't make a stink, your salary is going to continue
- 16:22Speaker 3: to go up. And if you're really in there long enough,
- 16:25Speaker 3: we'll give you a couple of playoff appearances, which there
- 16:29Speaker 3: is a financial bonus for each round. It it's a scale,
- 16:32Speaker 3: it's a tiered scale that's going up.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Watching last night's game made me think two challenges for
- 16:39Speaker 1: abs challenge, even though you keep them, will not be enough.
- 16:42Speaker 1: We need three, at least your postseason games. We need three.
- 16:46Speaker 1: It's too important, and there are too many misses that
- 16:50Speaker 1: are blatant misses. Game two of the ALCS was that example.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Gary Phillips covers the Yankee says, there's a lot of
- 16:57Speaker 1: talk about Tucker Bellinger and who the Yankee will go after.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I mean, they probably are going to go after both
- 17:03Speaker 1: and end up with one would be my guess. But
- 17:07Speaker 1: who do you think they should pursue in the offseason.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I like Cody Bellinger, man. I thought Cody Bellinger was
- 17:14Speaker 2: an absolute beast. I thought he did well. He made
- 17:16Speaker 2: some really good plays. He's a great defender, and he's
- 17:20Speaker 2: got instincts too as well. I thought he'd fit in
- 17:23Speaker 2: well when he first came in. You know that happy,
- 17:25Speaker 2: go lucky charm that you know, laid back charm. You
- 17:28Speaker 2: didn't know how it was going to be in New York.
- 17:29Speaker 2: And I thought he did exceptional, So I mean that
- 17:31Speaker 2: would I'm not saying Kyle Tucker is a bad ballplayer,
- 17:34Speaker 2: but I feel like Bellinger is one of those carefree
- 17:38Speaker 2: guys that's not going to worry about the big, big lights,
- 17:41Speaker 2: you know in New York, and I thought I thought
- 17:43Speaker 2: he did exceptionally.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Well, it'll be cheaper. It'll be cheaper for Belly, and
- 17:49Speaker 3: you don't need Judge back in center field. Judge needs
- 17:51Speaker 3: to staying right. I don't know that Tucker's giving you
- 17:54Speaker 3: all those all you know, the innings that you want
- 17:57Speaker 3: in center, or that Jason Domingez is going to play center,
- 18:00Speaker 3: or how long is Tran Grisham? You know, to me,
- 18:04Speaker 3: I think Bellinger gives you a lot of flexibility, especially
- 18:08Speaker 3: since you know you don't you know, I don't think
- 18:11Speaker 3: you play another season with Judge in centerfield. I think
- 18:13Speaker 3: we've we did we did it once, let's not do
- 18:17Speaker 3: it again.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, Aaron Judge should not be in.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Centerfield, but Tucker. But Tucker's not center. You're right, Yeah,
- 18:28Speaker 3: that's what he said.
- 18:29Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 18:31Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 18:32Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 18:37Speaker 3: What do you think would be the best type of
- 18:39Speaker 3: manager for the Potters to hire here?
- 18:43Speaker 5: Well, one of the first things if I'm a J. Prilla,
- 18:48Speaker 5: one thing I'm going to do is I'm going to
- 18:50Speaker 5: consult a little bit with Manny Machado. I'm going to
- 18:56Speaker 5: consult with Tatis. Maybe those are the two premium guys
- 19:03Speaker 5: as your positional players. You're gonna need to get a
- 19:10Speaker 5: sense of what's needed at this particular time to allow
- 19:15Speaker 5: these guys to continue to go out and be who
- 19:18Speaker 5: they are. You know, I know, Manny's probably is in
- 19:22Speaker 5: the midst of getting to the back end of his
- 19:26Speaker 5: career more so than the front end. And so it's
- 19:29Speaker 5: gonna be important to have that and understand, you know
- 19:34Speaker 5: that those relationships amongst those type of players. When you
- 19:38Speaker 5: bring a guy in, as you stated before, the Tingler
- 19:41Speaker 5: situation and I think Green.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Situation, that's just not gonna work.
- 19:46Speaker 5: They're just gonna they're gonna blow that over.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Man.
- 19:48Speaker 5: They're gonna respect it for a little bit because it's
- 19:50Speaker 5: the head, but they're gonna blow it over because they
- 19:52Speaker 5: think most of the time you're blowing you're.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Trying to.
- 19:57Speaker 5: Force your action upon us, establish yourself opposed to a
- 20:03Speaker 5: guy that can walk in is like, okay, we're gonna
- 20:06Speaker 5: be all right, man, We're gonna.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Be all right.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Like, you know, like, okay, let's see how this goes.
- 20:10Speaker 5: You know, a guy who has experienced and who's been
- 20:13Speaker 5: around the game for a long time, who has experienced
- 20:15Speaker 5: many different aspects.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Hey, that's Kyle Blazer and Mike Cameron on Friar Territory,
- 20:23Speaker 1: part of the FT Network, covering the breaking news on
- 20:26Speaker 1: the manager front this week that Mike Schultz is stepping down,
- 20:30Speaker 1: retiring from his spot managing The Friars How Youth Fell
- 20:34Speaker 1: also part of that show on select episodes as well.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Were you surprised when you heard that news after two
- 20:41Speaker 1: successful regular seasons and decent postseasons? I mean not this year,
- 20:45Speaker 1: I guess in the wild card.
- 20:46Speaker 2: But yeah, that it always brings you a question. I
- 20:48Speaker 2: always think whenever something happens, there's something else going on,
- 20:52Speaker 2: and not necessarily true all the time, but there could
- 20:56Speaker 2: be a little problem. There could be an issue, or
- 20:58Speaker 2: there could be maybe I'm looking too far into it.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Maybe it's just my time is now. I don't want
- 21:04Speaker 2: to be around anymore. So yeah, it was strange. It
- 21:07Speaker 2: came out rather quickly, and you know, I think they're
- 21:11Speaker 2: trying to put this to bed and move on. So
- 21:13Speaker 2: I do like that they're going to consult with some
- 21:14Speaker 2: of the players. I think that's fantastic, but ultimately they
- 21:17Speaker 2: got to make their decision.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Is that normal? Do teams talk to players when they're
- 21:21Speaker 1: figuring out their manager? I feel like some front officers
- 21:24Speaker 1: are like, no, screw that, we're not asking them.
- 21:28Speaker 2: If I remember, I think Joey Vado talked to some guys,
- 21:32Speaker 2: some brass maybe Brandon Phillips, But no matter what, they
- 21:37Speaker 2: really say they're going to make the decision on their own,
- 21:39Speaker 2: but I feel like they just want to maybe a
- 21:41Speaker 2: little reassurance and hear what the players have to think.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I think you should because they're the one that you
- 21:47Speaker 2: know has to be around them most of the time.
- 21:49Speaker 2: But still it's a business decision at the end of
- 21:52Speaker 2: the day. I don't know.
- 21:55Speaker 3: The manager has to work directly with the general manager.
- 21:59Speaker 3: To me, you gotta be as a general manager, you
- 22:01Speaker 3: got to figure out what kind of player personnel you have.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Can't have Manny going in there going yeah, you know
- 22:08Speaker 3: who I really love Flarity, Ryan o'flairity, Ryano Flaerty, that.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Just Flarity, Ryan Flerity, Erico Flerity.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yeah, he was my buddy when we were with the Orioles.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Like now, all of a sudden, does Flarity have enough
- 22:26Speaker 3: enough cashish? Does he have enough like up to be like, hey, Manny,
- 22:30Speaker 3: I need you to do this or that, and'd be
- 22:32Speaker 3: like whatever, bro, Like I used to play with you.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Like there's there's there's a fine line in there. I'm
- 22:37Speaker 3: not saying you don't ask the players. I'm saying, as
- 22:41Speaker 3: a general manager, whoever you're picking, this is gonna be
- 22:43Speaker 3: a J. Peler's last manager. You can't keep going through managers,
- 22:48Speaker 3: keep your job no matter how well you do, and
- 22:51Speaker 3: not and not win the ultimate prize when this much
- 22:54Speaker 3: money is put out there. So ultimately you you got
- 22:57Speaker 3: to own this. As a J prelers, you got to
- 22:59Speaker 3: own who he picks.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I actually think he could have more. I think he's
- 23:04Speaker 1: so highly regarded within their circle, and there's still like
- 23:09Speaker 1: a little bit of ownership strife with the potential lawsuit
- 23:12Speaker 1: and all that. So they're just letting Peler do his thing,
- 23:15Speaker 1: and I mean, you could have a situation like this
- 23:17Speaker 1: pop up again. I mean, Schiltz was a shocker. He
- 23:19Speaker 1: thought he was going to be their manager for five
- 23:20Speaker 1: to seven years.
- 23:21Speaker 3: No, I hope, I hope they have. I hope they
- 23:24Speaker 3: take their time with this one, just because this is fresh.
- 23:28Speaker 3: We just had Kevin Ace on like he's still on
- 23:31Speaker 3: our screen. It was so fresh, like, so this is
- 23:34Speaker 3: fresh news, and so I hope they take their time
- 23:37Speaker 3: and not say, oh, we got to take the best
- 23:40Speaker 3: available guy, because I think there's somebody out there that's
- 23:42Speaker 3: going to fit into that mold that they want, that
- 23:45Speaker 3: has experience, has that ability to kind of roll with
- 23:50Speaker 3: the punches, and I know a couple guys that are
- 23:53Speaker 3: interviewing right now, and they would be tremendous, tremendous candidates,
- 23:57Speaker 3: and it's not dudes with zero experience.
- 24:02Speaker 1: And we're going to talk a lot about all the
- 24:04Speaker 1: manager openings and fillings, I mean, as we get the news,
- 24:07Speaker 1: but then hopefully there's still some remaining after the postseason
- 24:10Speaker 1: that we can cover too, So actually a lot of
- 24:13Speaker 1: those might get filled during that break between the CS
- 24:16Speaker 1: and the World Series.
