- 0:22SPEAKER_00: The TV intro for the long-running NBC soap opera, The Days of Our Lives, proclaims, like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Well, that line is more than a great introduction to a TV show.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: It also happens to be the absolute truth.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: One day the sand in your hourglass will run out.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: We all have a limited amount of time on this earth, so what'll be left after you've gone?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Certainly there will be social media posts, mementos, people's memories, and the other things that you created.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And those things can all fade over time, but your words can be immortal.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We all have the same amount of time in life.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Life is never going to be ideal, and things are probably not ever going to slow down.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: There's always going to be something happening, some drama, some crisis, or something new that you've got to contend with.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And the truth is that we have to write in the midst of an imperfect life.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: We have to write in the mess and in the muck of what's happening all around us.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: If you've ever seen a musical Hamilton or ever listened to the soundtrack, you'll remember this line that Eliza Hamilton says to her husband, Alexander.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Why do you write like you're running out of time?
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: That's a great question, not just for Alexander Hamilton, but for all of us, because the truth is that we're all running out of time.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Does knowing that your life will come to an end someday motivate you to make the most of every day?
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Why or why not?
