Latest / The Lunch Rush with Trent Condon / PCA Bunting with 2 strikes, Kyle Green takes over at UNI, Hawkeye talk with Eliot Clough on spring football & the transfer portal
Transcript
- 0:18Alright, good afternoon. Welcome Miller and Condon.
- 0:22It's a Wednesday on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:24Back at it for the next block of six hours of programming,
- 0:28starting with Miller and Condon. You're Trent Condon.
- 0:30Ken Miller until 2 off the bench.
- 0:33Sean and Lucas until 5:00. Overtime Iowa 5 until 6.
- 0:37Here's what's coming up on our program as far as our guest
- 0:40list. We will start things off at the
- 0:43bottom of the hour. Elliott Clough covers the
- 0:44Hawkeyes. Kirk Ference had his spring
- 0:46presser yesterday. Some interesting Nuggets that
- 0:50came out of that, so I'm sure Trent and I'll toss those around
- 0:52before Elliott comes in here at 12:30 to talk.
- 0:55Hawks. Our only guest in the first hour
- 0:58of the program. It's Wednesday, which means we
- 1:00head to Chicago to start our second hour.
- 1:02David Kaplan on the situation with the Bears and the fact that
- 1:06Roger Goodell is now putting a little pressure on the Bears to,
- 1:09you know, what to get off the pot.
- 1:11Is it Illinois? Did Indiana make up your damn
- 1:13minds? Put a shovel in the ground,
- 1:15Let's go, Goodell. Yet the league with the winter
- 1:19meetings yesterday made that very clear.
- 1:21So we'll do that. We'll do the Cubs.
- 1:23Apparently there's a analytics I've changed since I was a kid.
- 1:27Bunting on 3rd strike is now OK with two strikes.
- 1:29I mean bunting with two strikes is OK now?
- 1:34I don't get it. Did you wear wear that?
- 1:38I I did not. I know it's new to me.
- 1:40New to me too, but reading some of the comments last night,
- 1:43apparently I don't know anything about baseball because I heard
- 1:46that I didn't hear that. I read that a lot of you people
- 1:49that do old school don't know anything really top of the
- 1:53night. Let me set the scene.
- 1:54It's 2 nothing Angels. PCA leads off the 9th strike,
- 1:57one strike, two tries to bunt. On the third pitch it's popped
- 2:02up. Foul ball.
- 2:04Back to the Dago de goes. It was a good idea for PCA.
- 2:07Apparently. I hate analytics.
- 2:09David Kaplan kicks off the second hour and then Rob Doster
- 2:12field of 68 will once again join us.
- 2:15We'll break down the final four with Rob.
- 2:17Look forward to that. Trent Scott, some plays of the
- 2:19day. There is a basketball game
- 2:21tonight, maybe kind of an it's a big #9 1/2 ten Oklahoma in
- 2:26Colorado. Colorado.
- 2:27Not much left on that roster. So we'll see.
- 2:30But plenty of day baseball, lots to keep an eye on, including CB
- 2:35Buckner behind home plate in Milwaukee.
- 2:37And for me, that's worth the price of admission.
- 2:39He is so bad and it was on full display once again last night.
- 2:44Did you see the play? I did, absolutely.
- 2:45You sent it to me right away. I saw Twitter absolutely going
- 2:48nuts about it. And now I'll be honest, when I
- 2:51first thought, here Ken goes again.
- 2:53You know this isn't going to be that big of a deal, right?
- 2:57And then? You clicked on the video.
- 3:00I watched the video as one of the most This is worse than Jim
- 3:06Joyce this. Is this might be the worst call
- 3:09I've ever seen. This is worse than Dankinger.
- 3:10Yes. This is making crap up.
- 3:14Yes, he wasn't obstructed. No.
- 3:17He had a perfect view. Now he chose not to look at the
- 3:19base, and that was the. Problem, right?
- 3:22But then to not only already missed it, things happen, your
- 3:26eyes wander completely understand that.
- 3:28Maybe you have to sneeze and look down.
- 3:30Whatever. But instead of just taking the
- 3:32easy way out, well, obviously he's safe, right?
- 3:35He makes up that he missed first base.
- 3:38There is nothing, none that would lead you to believe it's.
- 3:42Not like he just touched the base with the, you know, the tip
- 3:45of his toe. His whole shoe was on first
- 3:48base. Not only that, our buddy JP
- 3:51Richardson with Central Iowa Sports a big time umpire.
- 3:55He tell you too. It's not just about your eyes,
- 3:59it's also your ears without a doubt.
- 4:00And one of the simplest things if your eyes do wander is you
- 4:05hear the cleats hit first base. Yep.
- 4:07Or the ball to hit the first baseman's glove.
- 4:10Instead, he makes it up. Made it up.
- 4:13Totally made it up. An awful, awful look.
- 4:15No, and he gets home plate today and I can't wait until the two
- 4:20teams start to embarrass this cat by touching their helmet.
- 4:23I love the Absi think it was Snyder who and I never thought
- 4:27of this before. It adds to the experience of
- 4:30being at a baseball game because once you realize that they're
- 4:33going to the replay and it doesn't take long at all.
- 4:35I love this part. You then see on your Jumbotron
- 4:39exactly what we're seeing at home on television sets, whether
- 4:42it's in the strike zone or out of the strike zone, whether it
- 4:46was a good challenge or a bad challenge, it kind of makes it
- 4:50in in a small. Way interactive, right?
- 4:52Yeah, because you can see at least with what the TV box has,
- 4:57which is not official but pretty good.
- 4:59And then you take it a step further and very quickly you get
- 5:01to know and then the umpire. Now, one thing that I do, I told
- 5:06you about my theory yesterday, right?
- 5:08As we're going to say, instead of pitch catch framing, it's
- 5:11going to go the opposite direction.
- 5:13We're going to have them move that ball out just a little bit
- 5:16and then maybe trick the team into using the challenge and go
- 5:19that direction. And that's a possibility.
- 5:21One theory that I heard that at minimum's interesting is if this
- 5:26is something and for the betters out there, maybe this is an
- 5:29angle, is that this is going to hurt the elite level guys,
- 5:33starting pitchers because those are the guys we think back to,
- 5:37Greg. Maddock.
- 5:37Oh, he was. He's the poster.
- 5:39Child. I mean, if ABS was a thing then.
- 5:42He's not in the Hall of Fame. He still might be a Hall of
- 5:45Famer, but but the numbers are not going to look quite safe.
- 5:48Him and Clavin, that whole Braves pitching staff, but
- 5:51particularly Maddox, you're. Right.
- 5:53He was one of one as it pertained to that and just the
- 5:56movement that you saw that was pitch framing before pitch
- 5:58framing was a thing. Just all the parts but the home
- 6:01plate umpire, who was his. Catcher Eddie.
- 6:03What's Eddie's last name? It it it wasn't Javi Lo.
- 6:06Was. Not it was Eddie.
- 6:09Eddie. He had his personal catcher.
- 6:11What the hell was There was a couple of different ones, but
- 6:13you know, Eddie. Was the guy Eddie?
- 6:15I think it's Eddie. Is it Eddie?
- 6:16Eddie doesn't. Doesn't ring a bell.
- 6:18No, Eddie didn't say. Oh yeah, in my mind.
- 6:21OK, anyway. 2 old guys for getting things on radio.
- 6:24About a backup catcher. He was different and now when we
- 6:28bring it to today's environment, hope plate umpire is going to
- 6:31give the benefit of the doubt. To an elite guy.
- 6:33To the top plate, starting pitching veterans.
- 6:37Yeah, yes, that very well has a chance to change, I thought a
- 6:40minimum. That's the theory.
- 6:41I think keeping an eye on going forward of how that looks.
- 6:44Yeah, No, I'm with you. It's fascinating.
- 6:46It it adds A wrinkle. I'm surprised that didn't get
- 6:49here earlier. Glad it's here now.
- 6:51And I I think that this is going to be something that's
- 6:54universally maybe not loved, but certainly accepted by baseball
- 6:58fans who follow the game of, of baseball.
- 7:02I want to get to Kirk Ference, what he said yesterday, Eddie
- 7:05Perez, Eddie Perez, Eddie Perez. That was his catcher, Eddie
- 7:09Perez. Eddie Perez, you had the Eddie.
- 7:11Yep, you had the Eddie. Nailed it.
- 7:13Absolutely. No, No big deal.
- 7:16Anyways, are you any closer to spinning out the national
- 7:23champion? Michigan.
- 7:25You are Michigan. You said that very quickly.
- 7:29I did. I have.
- 7:30I don't think yesterday you were at that spot.
- 7:32I wasn't. I told you, probably what's
- 7:34going to lean in that direction for me is what we saw obviously
- 7:39on the sideline. The difference between Tommy
- 7:41Lloyd and Dusty May I think is pretty significant.
- 7:43So. Does Tommy Lloyd not not coming
- 7:47out and saying I'm not going to North Carolina factor in your
- 7:50decision is all? Is this a distraction for this
- 7:53Arizona T Trent, he's going to, he's going to North Carolina.
- 7:56You think so? I absolutely do.
- 7:58If he's not, why isn't he coming out and saying that he's not?
- 8:01They're gonna have a good coach. After me talking about the
- 8:04Arizona there's after I'm gone, there's gonna be there's gonna
- 8:08be another great coach come through here.
- 8:10Just look how TJ handled it. Yes.
- 8:12Look, I'm gonna call him very quickly.
- 8:13You know what? No, that's not I'm here.
- 8:15I'm good. And I know we've heard coaches
- 8:17say that before. Yeah, and that's why I.
- 8:19But not time after time after time after time.
- 8:21And now you're in the Final Four.
- 8:23What's he gonna do when he gets to Indianapolis?
- 8:24How many times is he gonna have to answer this?
- 8:26Question and he'll answer it in the same way.
- 8:28And then he'll take the North Carolina jump.
- 8:31But what if Billy Donovan's going to take the North Carolina
- 8:33job? He is still the betting
- 8:35favorite. Is he?
- 8:36Yes. And so the theory there is he
- 8:38hasn't taken it because the Bulls season's not over yet.
- 8:41But if he's going to take it, you have to do it now.
- 8:44All right, what's the portal open next Wednesday?
- 8:47No, today and is. It today or is it today?
- 8:50Yeah, it's today on the men's side.
- 8:52OK, so there's two different. Ones and the women open on
- 8:54Monday. I believe I have that correct.
- 8:57That's memory off the top of my head.
- 8:59I think that's what it is. But regardless, Billy Donovan's
- 9:02going to take this job. If he is, you can't wait until
- 9:06the end of the regular season for the Bulls.
- 9:07You have to get this job and you have to be doing it right now.
- 9:10So why is Tommy Lloyd stick handling around the question
- 9:13then? Why does he come out right?
- 9:14What what does he have to gain? He's going to the national,
- 9:17well, what seems like the national championship game he's
- 9:21playing on in the Final four. It's not like you know, if there
- 9:25is an interest in renegotiating his contract, I'm sure that that
- 9:29that is already in motion, right?
- 9:32I I just think I'm on the complete opposite side of this
- 9:35because it bothers the crap out of me when they come out
- 9:37definitive because we've seen so many coaches, millions and one
- 9:41way or the other, the way Tommy Lloyd's doing it, the way TJ
- 9:43Outsenberger did it, it's no difference to me.
- 9:46Have you seen a coach in this spot though, Trent?
- 9:48Have you seen a coach this far in?
- 9:49I think we have have we? I believe so.
- 9:51I can't think of an example off the top of my I just this part
- 9:55of it one way or the other. OK, so he's going to lie to you
- 9:59to make you feel better for a week and then go take the job or
- 10:02just say it. This I, I, I don't think it
- 10:05makes it definitive one way or the other because coaches have
- 10:07lied to us for so long. They have come out with strong,
- 10:11strong responses and then they lie and they take a job a day or
- 10:15a week later because of that. I have no problem with Lloyd.
- 10:18I don't think it's distract. It just is a distraction for
- 10:21Dusty Mays. I don't think so.
- 10:23I don't think that that falls into the thinking of these guys
- 10:26and how many of these Arizona guys are going to be there next
- 10:28year. Well, sure.
- 10:31You know, I mean, we know the guys that have exhausted their
- 10:34eligibility and, and Bradley's obviously not going to be there
- 10:37anymore and, and you're not going to see.
- 10:38Berries is going to the league. He has berries.
- 10:40Going to the league bill roughly Yep I mean so those guys are all
- 10:43booping on too if it does play out in that fashion I.
- 10:47What if his team, what if his team gets embarrassed by
- 10:49Michigan, you know, and, and he does take the North Carolina
- 10:52job, He's going to be public anyway.
- 10:54Number one in Tucson, maybe that doesn't.
- 10:55Bother him. Yeah, right.
- 10:57Right. It's not like you're going to
- 10:58you're, you're going to the ACC, you're not going to make yearly
- 11:00trips to Tucson Exactly 1 would assume.
- 11:03I'm probably not going to sign a home and home with him,
- 11:04probably. Not yeah.
- 11:06Kyle Green is now going back home to you and I.
- 11:09He is leaving TJ staff, the third coach in two years,
- 11:12Robinson two years ago and then obviously two more this year.
- 11:16Blunt and now Green is gone. Do you like to hire 56 years
- 11:21old? I like it because I don't think
- 11:23he's a climber. I don't think he's taking this
- 11:25job to get to better himself, to get a bigger job down the road
- 11:29at his age. And he's not all by any means.
- 11:32You're 56. Obviously his son is as
- 11:37decorated as anybody that ever played basketball there.
- 11:40I think that this is probably it for him.
- 11:43And you can kind of lock it in. You think at minimum he's going
- 11:47to do? A good job.
- 11:49This is maybe not the upside of some of a candidate that could
- 11:53be out there where you're going to hit a Grand Slam with a solid
- 11:56dump. See, Tuttle I think takes the
- 11:58job for a while and if they have success, he's looking to climb
- 12:03that ladder. I don't think Kyle Green is.
- 12:06Now the question also becomes, does Seth Tuttle stick around or
- 12:10is he going to go to Utah State with Ben Jacobson?
- 12:12What? About gold Ames.
- 12:15Could be a possibility. They got a couple couple of
- 12:17vacancies, yes. Don't know what kind of
- 12:20connection or relationship that Ottson and Tuttle have, if
- 12:22that's something that would make sense.
- 12:24But for him. Or does this become very simple?
- 12:27Tuttle becomes the associate head coach and the head coach in
- 12:29waiting and and that's the direction that you and I.
- 12:32Will sign five years. Yes.
- 12:34So it's not a long 7-8 year deal, anything like that.
- 12:37And you know, here is the Ascension plan, it's here, it's
- 12:41on paper, we make that happen and have Seth Tuttle, the head
- 12:44coach in waiting for some places.
- 12:46It hasn't worked at others. But regardless, that's the
- 12:48direction. I think that would make a whole
- 12:50lot of sense for you and I. Were you surprised it was only a
- 12:52five year deal? His age?
- 12:55Not really. Yeah, when you when you factor
- 12:57it in like that. And you and I is not financially
- 13:00in a spot. Probably, although they probably
- 13:02save well they didn't probably they save money, right.
- 13:05Yeah, with with Ben, who what I saw his contact was at 1.3 I
- 13:09think 1.3 to start and then incremental raises throughout
- 13:13the the length of his contract at Utah State.
- 13:16They're they're giddy reading some of the stuff from on on his
- 13:20hiring. They are ecstatic out there that
- 13:22that they got Ben Jacobson. And and initially there was some
- 13:25blowback. Was there?
- 13:26Yeah. One NCAA tournament a decade,
- 13:30tough to swallow when you made seven, last eight NCAA
- 13:32tournaments. And we're bringing in this guy
- 13:34and all the young guns that they've done.
- 13:36But I think as more people have realized, and one thing I've
- 13:38also seen is people understanding the financial
- 13:41constraints that you and I and how tough it has been, and even
- 13:44in comparison to the brethren in the MVC, it's a different kind
- 13:47of job. He's done a really good job,
- 13:50very well. Could have been a tournament
- 13:51team in 2020. There's been close calls,
- 13:54there's been disappointing losses during this decade before
- 13:57they finally got back to it. But they're getting a good
- 13:59coach. I think we all around here know
- 14:00that. Yeah, no, I agree.
- 14:03Kind of sad to see him gone. Thought he'd be there for good
- 14:05and but you know what? He took a chance and and off he
- 14:09goes to Utah State. Cal Green moves on and T JS got
- 14:12a couple of vacancies. Do you read anything into that
- 14:15for Otts having two guys apart? Just you know what I read into
- 14:18it, I read into it that he's starting to, his tree is
- 14:21starting to sprout, trying to to grow some branches.
- 14:25I don't, I mean, obviously he's had a ton of success at Iowa
- 14:28State and had a bunch of success very quickly.
- 14:32He's a hell of a recruiter. He's a hell of a recruiter
- 14:34before he came a head coach. I I think it's a positive, the
- 14:37guy that the teams are looking at the TJ staff and and plucking
- 14:42guys off of it. So that's how I took it.
- 14:44I'm with you. Couple open jobs there.
- 14:47They got Air Crawford still around.
- 14:49You wonder does he ascend up a level?
- 14:54Some people threw his name into the ring also for EU and I job.
- 14:56If Greed wasn't interested and and Tuttle maybe went a
- 14:59different direction. That was one that was talked
- 15:01about. Deonte Garrett, he's an
- 15:02assistant coach. Does he move up the ranks?
- 15:04Oh, maybe. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:06George, are they going outside of the group that's there right
- 15:09now as opposed to going out there?
- 15:11Because Blunt did a lot as it pertains to the recruiting side
- 15:15and he also did a lot on the offensive side of things.
- 15:18And now you lose your defensive guy with with Kyle Green moving
- 15:20on to you and I. So there's work to be done now
- 15:22in this coaching staff. Portal update wrestling today
- 15:25women Monday men is next Tuesday, Tuesday next Tuesday
- 15:30the men. So got a little time before it
- 15:33opens, but before you know it, it's going to be here in a way.
- 15:36We're going to go with with that one.
- 15:41There was a couple of NFL things I wanted to bring up to you.
- 15:43NFL Things. Well, just the fact that though
- 15:45the meetings are going on right now, I think they're in Phoenix.
- 15:49I'm just going to be a 5 diamond, not a five star.
- 15:52You know the best that the best of the best that you can get.
- 15:55It does sound like we are going to have a a football game on
- 15:59Thanksgiving Eve. Wednesday night.
- 16:01Wednesday night it it sounds like that and sounds as though
- 16:04Goodell is going to package that with another holiday game and
- 16:09and make that available to a Netflix or a Hulu or whatever
- 16:15the Internet service du jour happens to be.
- 16:18But it does sound like it's going in that direction.
- 16:21It was just more money for the NFL.
- 16:22But the thing I wanted to talk to you about, and obviously
- 16:24we're going to get with Kathy. Did you hear Goodell yesterday
- 16:27kind of putting pressure on the Bears to make their decision
- 16:30with where they're going to ultimately call home?
- 16:33Yeah, he did. He was.
- 16:35He was asked the question and he didn't scold them.
- 16:39But the end of his statement was and this is something that needs
- 16:42to happen relatively soon. Yes, right.
- 16:45Yeah, so we made it pretty clear like the the league is watching.
- 16:48We would like some clarity on where, you know, one of our
- 16:52flagship franchises is going to play their play their home
- 16:56games. It sounds as though, I mean, I,
- 16:59I don't know, Kathy's great. Kevin Warren's been working on
- 17:01this for three years. Yes.
- 17:03Right, that's been his only job. You you would think that after
- 17:06three years he'd have a little bit more of an answer to give.
- 17:11I don't know. I can't see the move in the
- 17:13Indiana. I just I get the I get.
- 17:15Both New York franchises. Playing New Jersey, I understand
- 17:18that. Though commanders do not play in
- 17:20no. The Commanders don't, though.
- 17:22They're now, will they? They're going back though,
- 17:23right? The 49ers?
- 17:26Does it matter to you? You're a Bears fan?
- 17:27I don't care if the Broncos move to Wyoming.
- 17:33Right, but Denver's also in the middle of the state.
- 17:35Sure. I mean, if if the Wyoming border
- 17:37was in north Denver, would you care?
- 17:41No. No, I don't think so.
- 17:43And it's and it's How far? It's.
- 17:46Closer and for some locales. From downtown, it is closer and
- 17:50quicker by car to get to Hammond, IN than it is to get to
- 17:54Arlington. Is that due to traffic?
- 17:57Both. Both in terms of mileage, Crow
- 17:59crow. Flies would be what?
- 18:01I think Hammond actually has a beat.
- 18:02Does it really? Yeah, it's it's part of Chicago.
- 18:06It's closer than I thought. I mean, I just didn't realize my
- 18:08Canadian is showing. My apologies.
- 18:10Yeah, they're not putting into champagne, right?
- 18:12And they they played for. You.
- 18:13They did. Yes, they did.
- 18:14This is not hours and hours. How many years ago was that?
- 18:18Was it 20? 15, probably no.
- 18:20Yeah, more than that. 20 or maybe even a touch.
- 18:22Yeah. More than 20, I think now, man,
- 18:24we're getting old. More than 20.
- 18:27But that's one thing. It's just, it's never bothered
- 18:29me. Now personally, I would like to
- 18:30see Arlington Heights, but it doesn't matter one iota one way
- 18:34or the other to me. Hammond, IN.
- 18:36It's just the Indiana part of it.
- 18:37I don't bother some people. I'm sure if I was a Chicagoan,
- 18:41it would be different. I understand that part of it and
- 18:44city pride and civic pride and all the things that go along
- 18:46with it. But in the grand scheme of
- 18:48things, you put in one suburb, you put it in another.
- 18:50And the actual deal that they're going to get from Indiana, it's
- 18:54a lot better than what they're going to.
- 18:55Get from well they're they're essentially blank checking right
- 18:58yeah. And do do what you need to do
- 19:00absolutely and we'll do what we need to do I and when it when it
- 19:03happened, I remember my take the the next day was well, this is
- 19:08just politics and it's worse, right?
- 19:09This is somebody trying to get their name in the paper.
- 19:12Was it the governor of Indiana that came out very quickly and
- 19:15said we're going to accommodate. You right, this was much
- 19:17different than the grandstanding that happened to Quad Cities.
- 19:20Oh my God, that. Was on the Iowa side of the
- 19:23border over there. That would be different.
- 19:26That would be like your Denver Broncos move to Cheyenne, right?
- 19:29Having a stadium there, that's what it would be like putting
- 19:32it. Can you imagine that stadium?
- 19:34It just silliness. That's all it is.
- 19:37It's it's goofiness, it's silliness, it's grandstanding
- 19:39and all that part. But I don't it doesn't bother me
- 19:41one bit. One thing I did notice.
- 19:44So they approve these rule changes that are boring.
- 19:46Right, it's NFL rule changes. Yeah, the the rule changes that
- 19:49were applied, it's like kickoff rules and there was a loophole.
- 19:52If you're kicking off off from the 50, they could Kick It Out
- 19:55about like OK. Oh, they changed that, right?
- 19:57Because they exploited that last year, Yeah, however.
- 20:01So the Tish push now isn't a thing since the Eagles didn't
- 20:03win the Super Bowl. I guess.
- 20:05I mean, how much time did we spend last year talking about
- 20:09the Tush Bush and banning it and getting rid of it?
- 20:11And it's going, it's not happening this year, but it's
- 20:13certainly going to happen next year.
- 20:15And since the Eagles took a step back this year, no, we don't
- 20:17care. No, it just it's it's baffling.
- 20:20I hate the play. I want to see it out.
- 20:22Laud. I absolutely despise it.
- 20:24It's not aesthetically pleasing. It's not football.
- 20:26That's rugby. Rugby.
- 20:29That's not football to me. But that aside, all the
- 20:32consternation that was out there, all the frustration, if
- 20:35you weren't an Eagles fan, all right, it's going to go away.
- 20:37Certainly in 2026 not even voted on.
- 20:41Our last thing and before we get to our break and then we're
- 20:43going to get to Elliot Klev. We'll recap what Kirk Ference
- 20:45had to say yesterday as he met the media.
- 20:47You know, back-to-back to where we started.
- 20:49I'm watching the Cubs game last night.
- 20:51It's the 9th inning and PCA is down.
- 20:52O2 win the count and he tried to lay down a bunt.
- 20:58I guess he's he's as fast as the wind right?
- 21:01He truly is and I love watching him round the bases.
- 21:05This is something that's OK now to do in baseball.
- 21:10What am I missing? 2 strikes You never bunt.
- 21:13Do you? You don't.
- 21:17I don't think it is. Well, I don't know, because I
- 21:19was told very I didn't. I wasn't.
- 21:21I wasn't in the fight. I was just reading the the
- 21:23comments back and forth and there was I guess guys that you
- 21:26know, I've been watching baseball all my life.
- 21:28I've never seen this before. Why would he do that?
- 21:32You need to get on base. You're down 02.
- 21:35If you want to bunt, strike one, strike two, that's fine.
- 21:38But when you're to your last gasp again, it's game five.
- 21:43I'm not going to lose my mind over it.
- 21:45I think a big part is he's not a good contact guy and maybe it
- 21:50was just something with the match up, didn't like what he
- 21:52saw or just as simple as the shortstops playing on the grass.
- 21:55The third base was playing on the grass.
- 21:57I get this down. It's an automatic hit.
- 21:59Sure. And we saw him do it.
- 22:01We saw him do it on the weekend. Not not down O2 in the couch,
- 22:04right? But to pop that up, did you hear
- 22:07afterwards? Did it come from the dugout?
- 22:09Couldn't have or was that PCA on?
- 22:11I did. I didn't see that.
- 22:12I'm going to ask Kathy that, but I could tell because Boog and JD
- 22:17said nothing. So that didn't sit well with
- 22:20them, I'm guessing. Anyways, All right, take a time
- 22:24out. Elliott Clef coming up.
- 22:25Did you hear anything from Ference before we get to
- 22:27Elliott? That kind of stuck with you.
- 22:29Yes, the one when he was asked about Tony Diaz, the incoming
- 22:33wide receiver from UT Rio Grande Valley, and he said he likes to
- 22:37catch the ball good. You know, like, like a Curt
- 22:40Clegg, you know. But he said he's also fast.
- 22:42But it was just a praise that you so rarely hear from new guys
- 22:48that it doesn't matter if it's a freshman or a transfer.
- 22:51It's incredibly rare that you hear that kind of praise as a
- 22:55football player, leadership qualities, those kind of things.
- 22:58We've heard that Gronowski, We even heard about McNamara when
- 23:01he showed up. But to hear it about on the
- 23:04practice field, it just stuck with me.
- 23:07It stuck with me, sorry. That you think maybe they've got
- 23:10something there? I do.
- 23:11I mean, Tony Diaz had an Alabama visit lined up and Iowa came in
- 23:16and didn't let him get on that second visit to Alabama.
- 23:19There's a guy that was wanted in the portal and to hear that kind
- 23:22of praise, maybe it's just walking through the desert and
- 23:26searching for that drink of water and just anything out of
- 23:29the wide receiver ranks for the Hawkeyes.
- 23:31Maybe maybe that's the reason that it stuck with me a little
- 23:34bit more, but it was impactful to hear Kirk say that about a
- 23:37wide receiver, a new wide receiver.
- 23:40I think that said a lot. So Tony Diaz just filed that
- 23:43file. That one away.
- 23:44We got the spring prospectus. We however did not get a depth.
- 23:48Chart, you know, I looked for it this morning, I couldn't find.
- 23:51It so I think I also know the reason behind it is you remember
- 23:56Kirk last year there was a point and I can't remember if it was.
- 23:59I know. He didn't put on a depth chart
- 24:00in August for the first time ever.
- 24:02Right. It was on the heels of Big 10
- 24:05Media Day because A I believe that the way that they are
- 24:08structured in terms of NIL payments, if you're a starter,
- 24:12this is a baseline. If you're second on the depth
- 24:15chart, this is a baseline. So that factors in the depth.
- 24:18Chart and he mentioned something about getting calls from family.
- 24:21Members. Oh my God, about.
- 24:23That depth chart, depth chart until we get to the season.
- 24:26It's meaningless. It's something for us to get
- 24:28excited. About it absolutely is.
- 24:29I mean, and they broke down the roster in a different way.
- 24:32They had all the position groups kind of where did.
- 24:34You find it because I went to Hawkeye Sports and I couldn't
- 24:36find it. It was in the e-mail that that
- 24:38Whites, yeah, that whites sent out.
- 24:40I'll, I'll send it along to you though, because yes, not a depth
- 24:43chart, but still kind of a good, a good viewing and I think
- 24:46you'll like that. I'll print it off for you.
- 24:47So parents is getting calls from parents based on NIL and
- 24:52somebody who's making more. Money believe my sons, not
- 24:55second because you also know it. Being second on that depth chart
- 24:58means a little extra Ching Ching Wow, but a world just stay away
- 25:02from. It Elliot, Clough, Miller and
- 25:03Condon. We're underway on our Wednesday.
- 25:05David Kaplan kicks off our number 2.
- 25:08I look forward to catching up with Cappy and then Rob Doster
- 25:12field of 68. Let's break down these two final
- 25:15four games. Trench plays of the day.
- 25:17Circus Sports sponsor those. Those will happen just before we
- 25:20scram AT2O clock, Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 25:23Network. I'm Hillary Cod.
- 25:31They just passed 12:30. It's the Iowa Sports Radio
- 25:33Network wherever listening in the state of Iowa.
- 25:36We are grateful that you are. By the way, do you hate today
- 25:39like I hate today? As far as is it just because I'm
- 25:42old? No.
- 25:43These aren't even funny. The stuff that's.
- 25:45Put on Twitter, there's plenty of those that are out there.
- 25:48I got duped today by the head of Locked On there was an e-mail
- 25:52new company structure, new company.
- 25:56Basically, if you do not, if you have a guest on the podcast and
- 26:00you don't get right to the content, you ask them how
- 26:02they're doing, you have to write a apology letter to our
- 26:05marketing And like I'm reading through it was right as we were
- 26:08getting ready to tape ATV our TV show inside the number.
- 26:10So I'm walking and look at like what is this?
- 26:12And there's like 5 different ones and and then I figured it
- 26:15out just. Drives me crazy.
- 26:18I got duped once bad as a kid my mom woke me up no school today
- 26:23snow day there. Was no snow on there?
- 26:26That's mean. That was that's mean.
- 26:28Kim's not. Yeah, she's got the mean side to
- 26:31her. She got me.
- 26:33Let's get Elliot Cluff in here. He joins the program.
- 26:35We recap yesterday's announcement with Kirk Ferrant.
- 26:38Not announcement, press conference yesterday with Kirk
- 26:41Ferrant's Elliot Trenton Kent hawkeyeinsider.com By the way,
- 26:43for Elliot, how are you? I'm good.
- 26:47How are you guys I'm doing? OK, you're not going to try and
- 26:49pull the wool over our eyes, are you?
- 26:51I promise I will. I hate this day on Twitter too.
- 26:54It I just like you said, it's not funny.
- 26:57It's stupid. Like we're a grown adult.
- 26:59What are we doing here? Right.
- 27:00And the fact is some people are announcing some other people's
- 27:03death. April Fools.
- 27:05That's not funny anyway. So let's move on from that.
- 27:10And obviously Kirk Ference met the media yesterday, an area I
- 27:13know is going to sure quarterback.
- 27:15It's that gets all the attention.
- 27:18But I was been really, really blessed when it comes to special
- 27:22teams, specialists. And obviously there's going to
- 27:25be a ton of change over there with returners and kickers and
- 27:29punters. This is an area and probably
- 27:32more so for August. As we get closer to September
- 27:35and realize that the season is upon us, that's probably going
- 27:39to get more more focus on it at that time.
- 27:41But but I was been spoiled here, I guess is where I'm going,
- 27:45Elliot, over the last few years. Yeah, they have.
- 27:48I mean, Kirk, finally, he might have said it during the fall,
- 27:53but finally he said that We Gen. was about as good as returners
- 27:57as he's had since he's been coaching.
- 27:59So finally given some some praise there.
- 28:02And you know, in comparison to some of the other returners, I
- 28:05mean, losing we Gen. in my opinion, is probably the biggest
- 28:09one. I mean, he's he's electric man.
- 28:12Like I haven't seen a returner like him.
- 28:14But I mean, like, Cooper obviously had a couple moments
- 28:18in there. I never got to see Tim Dwight,
- 28:20but like, I mean, he's the greatest returner in Iowa
- 28:24history in my mind. So he's the biggest loss in my
- 28:26opinion. I didn't think Reese Bacon was
- 28:28all that great. I I think Eli Ozik was was
- 28:32consistent for North Dakota State.
- 28:34He had his season long. I can't remember how far it was,
- 28:37but it was outdoors. It was not in the Dakota Dome.
- 28:41Yeah. So I think that was an Indiana
- 28:43State, if I'm remembering correctly.
- 28:44So of course we'll we'll see with, with punter between Phil
- 28:48Pot and the the Aussie kid that they're bringing over.
- 28:51But I've between kicker and and returner.
- 28:54I, I, I mean, I think they'll be alright at kicker.
- 28:56I think returner, they always figure something out.
- 28:58It'll be interesting to see how Chris Polly, he kind of put
- 29:01things together and you know, we see the difference in
- 29:04development between he and a guy like Lavar Wood because
- 29:07obviously Woods was awesome and and he was poached there by by
- 29:12Michigan State, Pat Fitzgerald for a reason.
- 29:15But I think returner wise, I think you're going to look at
- 29:18back lumber at punt returner, kick returner a bit more open up
- 29:22in the air. I think I may have told you guys
- 29:24this before, but we didn't actually told me that Braden
- 29:27Jackson, a walk on running back from this last year's class is a
- 29:31guy that he would watch at kick returner.
- 29:33So that that's really interesting.
- 29:35Of course, Brevin Doll back and you want to see more of him, but
- 29:40yeah, just kind of an interesting group to follow.
- 29:43Any kid. Yes, caught Kensai right away
- 29:45and Fred Jacksons son who of course played got it for a very
- 29:49long time and I called a lot of Bradens games and he's good.
- 29:52I watched a lot of his daddy's. Games absolutely get him as a
- 29:55walk on. Well, we talked earlier about
- 29:58praise. Kirk Ference is not one to throw
- 29:59praise around. It took two almost historic
- 30:02seasons before we can kind of got his flowers from Kirk.
- 30:05But he was throwing around a little praise yesterday for Tony
- 30:08Diaz, the incoming wide receiver.
- 30:10To hear that for a new guy on campus, it just very UN Kirk
- 30:14like take us into that one just a little bit Elliot and some of
- 30:17the buzz and excitement that is being created by Tony Diaz.
- 30:22We have definitely heard quite a bit of buzz about him out of
- 30:25skills and drills, but also in the early bits of of spring
- 30:29practice so far. He's a guy with a wide catch
- 30:32radius, kind of one of those playmakers that Iowa hasn't
- 30:36really had at the receiver spot in quite a while.
- 30:40I mean, like you said, and even just generally, Kirk isn't 1 to
- 30:44hand out big time compliments, but like to compliment a wide
- 30:47receiver. Say what?
- 30:50So, so he's definitely one that I'm, I'm personally really
- 30:53excited about has gained a lot of buzz.
- 30:56I think the quote was, I tweeted it out.
- 30:58I can't remember what it was, but it was something to the
- 31:00effect of, I mean, he catches anything in his, his general
- 31:05area. And we've seen some of those
- 31:06clips so far from from Iowa social media.
- 31:10He's he's going to be one that's fun.
- 31:12He's going to be one that I think fans really, really fall
- 31:16in love with. And whoever plays quarterback is
- 31:19going to be very happy that he's on the roster, I'm thinking.
- 31:23And I think a lot of the throws that we've seen, well, I guess
- 31:27the one deep shot that was a pass to Tony Diaz was from Hank
- 31:29Brown. But how about Jeremy Hecklinski
- 31:32and all the publication he's getting on on the Iowa football
- 31:36socials, Huh? Yeah.
- 31:37No, it really is. Would you say he's got a he's
- 31:40he's the leader in the clubhouse at this point.
- 31:42Ference didn't want to be committal and why would he?
- 31:44He's got a long time before it needed to be decided, as he
- 31:47said. But do you think if if Ference
- 31:50was to tip his hand leader in the clubhouse, it would be
- 31:53Klinsky at this point? And I, I, I don't know, I, I,
- 31:59everything I've heard right now is that it is really a
- 32:01legitimate competition. They, Hecklinski and Hank Brown
- 32:06obviously bring different skill sets, different physical tools
- 32:09to the table. I think, I think people want to
- 32:12see the exciting stuff from their quarterback.
- 32:14And I mean, I'm one of them. Like I want to see more of
- 32:17Hecklinski. I want to see what he can do on
- 32:20the fly. Hank Brown probably more of a
- 32:22safer option, more willing to take the check down instead of
- 32:26making tough roads. So that sounds more like a Kirk
- 32:29Ference quarterback to me. But Hecklinski is the one that I
- 32:33think think could be a guy that takes this offense a step
- 32:37forward. But right now it really does
- 32:40appear to be dead even between these two in spring ball.
- 32:44And and you know, again, that's what we're hearing behind the
- 32:46scenes. So one of them has a has a
- 32:49chance to separate themselves here in the spring and and into
- 32:52fall camp. But if I had to give one of them
- 32:54an edge personally, it would be Hecklinski.
- 32:57But I still very much a wait and see right now.
- 33:00I'm it's it's trouble, It's it's it's difficult to read between
- 33:03the lines at this point. Offensive line in front of them,
- 33:07you lose a lot of big pieces, but great building blocks with
- 33:10Trevor Lauken, what he did as a first year of a starter, and
- 33:12obviously Kate Peeper, who had an opportunity to move on and
- 33:15stuck around in Iowa City for another year.
- 33:17Some of the other guys, though, I think we anticipate we're
- 33:20going to see a lot of Jack Dozler.
- 33:22Al Guyer's a young guy that's been talked about.
- 33:24What can you tell us though, about Michael Mislinski because
- 33:27looked like sound like all systems go.
- 33:29He's going to come back, get an extra year of eligibility with
- 33:31the all the injuries he has dealt with.
- 33:33Then there's some talk maybe he wasn't on the roster.
- 33:35I saw yesterday they had the roster.
- 33:37He was out there. What can you tell us about Miss
- 33:39Linski? Because it feels like at minimum
- 33:41he's going to be starting for one of those interior spots?
- 33:44Well, I'd love to tell you more than what you just provided,
- 33:47right? But that's about all I got to
- 33:49OK, I really would. I don't really know what's going
- 33:54on at this point in time. That was the last update that I
- 33:56got to. I think, you know, you get him
- 34:00back. Obviously our Matt Dennett at
- 34:02CBS Sports reported that Cade Peeper is going to play center
- 34:05this year. I don't know that that has
- 34:07completely been been, you know, set in stone at this point in
- 34:11time, at least at the very least, the possibility having
- 34:16Miss Linsky there at at that right guard spot would be big.
- 34:20But at the same time, I mean, you throw in presumably Leighton
- 34:23Jones will be that left guard spot.
- 34:26But I mean, you brought in Trent Wilson from from James Madison.
- 34:30You mentioned all Geyer. I think all Geyer was more of a
- 34:34villain just because they didn't really have anybody at that
- 34:36spot. And I mean, who knows, maybe,
- 34:38maybe he does take another step forward and he's the guy there.
- 34:41But if I had to guess, if Miss Linsky is back, that'll be his
- 34:45spot, right guard. If not, I, I, I think it'll
- 34:48probably be Wilson that James Madison grants for big dude who
- 34:52was a punisher in the snaps. He got it at JMU last year.
- 34:57And again, that's that's just an educated guess at this point in
- 34:59time, not not entirely sure what that's going to look like, but
- 35:04the way I see it, it's Miss Lenski's spot.
- 35:07You guys mentioned Diaz and how Ference was effusive in his
- 35:11praise. Let me ask about LJ Phillips
- 35:13because, and I know he was asked the question, so it's not like
- 35:16he went out of his way to bring him up, but he certainly had
- 35:18lots to say about the South Dakota transfer, a lot of
- 35:21positive things to say. What seems to be on the surface
- 35:24of pretty Good a pretty deep running backroom are your
- 35:27thoughts on LJ Phillips and where Ference perhaps believes
- 35:31he can fit in. Yeah, I've, I've heard that LJ
- 35:35is like a smoother Jazz Patterson.
- 35:38So you lose Jazz Patterson to the portal, but you gain a guy
- 35:41that's probably a better runner than him.
- 35:43Of course, he's he's that, you know, that battering ram type,
- 35:47but a guy that can get in and out of cut and, and make
- 35:50defenders miss a little bit more easily than just trying to run
- 35:53through their face. So that and a guy that I had a
- 35:58ton of yards rushing for South Dakota in the NBFC last year.
- 36:03So heard a lot of good things about him.
- 36:04I think I think he and Moulton will get the majority of the
- 36:07carries this this this fall. I think they'll complement each
- 36:11other well, but also they have similar enough skill sets where
- 36:15it's like damn, I got to tackle this guy again.
- 36:18Kind of a bowling ball way of running at times where they can
- 36:22run you over. That's not the only part of
- 36:24their skill set, but they have that in their toolbox.
- 36:26So I think that's where he fits in.
- 36:29I would frankly be incredibly surprised if those two aren't
- 36:34splitting the majority of the carry carry.
- 36:36Over defensively, I know Kirk was asked about the defensive
- 36:40line and and that's the biggest question mark with this group.
- 36:43You know, we'll see how linebacker shakes out.
- 36:44It's all that young talent we've been talking about.
- 36:46It feels like for the last couple of years, defensive
- 36:48backfield, even with new faces, you feel like they're in good
- 36:51shape there. What are your thoughts up front
- 36:53what this defensive line and maybe specifically inside is
- 36:56going to look like this year? Yeah, I think defensive tackle
- 37:00has to be the biggest concern at this point because you lose
- 37:04Aaron Graves and you lose. Oh my gosh, I I've been so
- 37:09focused on basketball and forgetting football players
- 37:11names the Central Michigan defensive tackle.
- 37:14Jonah Pace. Yeah, Jonah.
- 37:16Pace Golly, sorry, Jonah. Pace you lose both of them the
- 37:21the graduation. I mean, you got Bryce Stevenson,
- 37:26not Bryce Stevenson, Bryce Hawthorne in there, Stevenson as
- 37:29well, but Hawthorne in there as a returner at that tackle spot
- 37:33and he'll be a presumed starter. But then you've got Oleg Baju
- 37:38from North Dakota and and and and Stevenson, like I mentioned
- 37:42from Holy Cross. But to me, you just you just
- 37:47don't know what you're going to get from those two at the FCS
- 37:49level. I've heard a lot Baju, somebody
- 37:52described him to me as like the Hulk.
- 37:54He's just a big Jack dude. Now can you put it together on
- 37:57the football field? That's the question 2 to watch
- 38:00are are Brad Fitzgibbon and Devin Kennedy young guys?
- 38:05Fitzgibbon, a red shirt freshman, Kennedy, a red shirt
- 38:08sophomore that was part of the 2024 Class A Penn State legacy.
- 38:14Fitzgibbon, a kid from Central Methodist in Chicago, one of the
- 38:18better football leagues in the Chicago area, that Catholic
- 38:21league. So heard some really good things
- 38:23about Fitzgibbon. Obviously you're you're hoping
- 38:26Yosei Effenessa is starter at that defensive end spot.
- 38:30And then Kenneth Meriweather, hopefully he can take a leap
- 38:33forward. He's got that physical frame
- 38:36that you love to have at defensive end.
- 38:38And of course, Kamari Brown from from Elon.
- 38:41So that group will be definitely intriguing.
- 38:45You know, it's not, it's not a first day thing more often than
- 38:48not that you plug and play in that two gap system on the
- 38:52defensive line under Calvin Bell.
- 38:54So yeah, that's probably the biggest concern for me too,
- 38:58because I mean, you look at the linebacker group, they've got
- 39:00experience, they've got used the the defensive backs.
- 39:04I mean, I I love, love Tyler Brown and Anthony Hawkins coming
- 39:09in. Of course you got Zach Lummer
- 39:10back. Of course you got Deshaun Lee
- 39:12back. That Jalen Watson and Rashaun
- 39:15Godfrey should be fun. But yeah, defensive line to me
- 39:18is is the biggest concern. Ellie, my last thing for it, and
- 39:22I think it was the last question of the of the presser yesterday
- 39:24when Ference was said, and I'm paraphrasing, you knew who you
- 39:27were going to play. He didn't know where they were
- 39:29going to sit on the schedule and Ference's response and he was
- 39:33asked to comment on it. His response was Full
- 39:35disclosure. I, I had no idea which just, I
- 39:39guess it just kind of blew me away, right?
- 39:40Because as, as guys that just are, you know, for what Trent
- 39:43and I do for fans out there that just live and breathe Hawkeye
- 39:46football or whatever your team, your team is, we can't get
- 39:50enough of these things yet in a year.
- 39:52What is it, 27? It's just been I, I really
- 39:55didn't care. It's kind of what he said,
- 39:58which, which you know, as, as I reflected on, I thought, you
- 40:01know what, that's pretty cool. I wonder if he's always thought
- 40:03that way. I maybe not, but I would venture
- 40:08to guess that's that was like a Kirk ISM that its finest in my I
- 40:12mean like he focused on spring ball right now.
- 40:15That's just Kirk right now, especially when you don't have
- 40:18your quarterbacks, that that's definitely, that was definitely
- 40:23a Kirk ferentism of not not caring.
- 40:28About. The schedule and not even I, I I
- 40:30would venture to guess it's not even taking up one iota of of
- 40:35his brain in power right now. Finally, you mentioned, Elliot
- 40:38that you've been in basketball mode.
- 40:40We'll get ready for the portal, open it up here soon in our
- 40:43final minute. Just kind of set the scene.
- 40:44What you anticipate. Is there going to be a surprise?
- 40:47A lot of speculation about Alvaro, what fool Garris is
- 40:50going to potentially entering the portal, Just exactly what
- 40:53you think this is going to look like when the portal opens for
- 40:55men's basketball. And that, that's a really good
- 40:59question. I, I think, I think the
- 41:01speculation is fair regarding Alvaro.
- 41:05I mean, like the thing about this time of year is a guy like
- 41:10Alvaro can say, man, I want to be here.
- 41:13And then that can change after a blank check gets signed right
- 41:18by, by somebody who reaches out and whether they do it in the
- 41:22binding rules of the NCAA or not, somebody reaches out to his
- 41:26camp and said, hey, we're going to offer you XYZ amount of
- 41:29money. Like things can change in a drop
- 41:31of a hat. And that doesn't just go for
- 41:33Paul Barrow. Granted, he's the guy kind of in
- 41:35the spotlight right now, people wondering what he's going to do,
- 41:39but he would be the one that I think I would.
- 41:42I would, I don't know if expect is the right word.
- 41:46I don't think expect is the right word that has the the most
- 41:50likelihood maybe to enter the portal.
- 41:52If you're if you're Ben McCollum and you really want to win and
- 41:57win soon, you know, maybe you look at some of those end of the
- 41:59bench guys as as ones that's like, OK, you know, we
- 42:03appreciate you for being part of the scout team this year, but
- 42:06we're going to need you to move on because Ben McCollum is going
- 42:08to do what it takes to win. And you know, he said it
- 42:11himself. They need some size, They really
- 42:14need some playable size and they need a lead guard to to to take
- 42:19over that that spot from Bennett's thirst.
- 42:21And you know, there's no replacing Bennett's thirst like
- 42:23Bennett was Bennett was special and what he did this year and
- 42:27he's going to be a first round NBA draft pick.
- 42:30So you got to go out and get somebody hopefully with a couple
- 42:32years of of eligibility left and you know, there I the way it's
- 42:39looking, they're going to add another freshman to this 2026
- 42:42class here soon too. So how many roster spots do you
- 42:45have? And that goes for Tavion Banks
- 42:48as well. Where does that ruling go?
- 42:50Is, is he back? Is he gone?
- 42:52What's what's going to happen? So a lot of questions right now
- 42:55for this roster. It's it's going to be it's going
- 42:59to be an interesting one to see how Ben McCollum manages it and
- 43:02how things go. We're going to learn a lot about
- 43:04Mccollum's offseason and how he operates this this this
- 43:08offseason because last year was different.
- 43:10He brings a bunch of Drake guys to retain Cooper Koch.
- 43:13You go get Brendan Austin. He had to fill out a whole
- 43:15roster this year. It's just a few moves and it'll
- 43:18help dictate and help, you know, determine our expectations for
- 43:22this roster and this team next season.
- 43:24Elliot Clough, 24/7 Sports, hawkeyeinsider.com Elliot, thank
- 43:28you for the contribution. As always, we'll talk to you
- 43:31down the road. Thank you, Elliot Clough.
- 43:33Sounds good. Thanks guys.
- 43:34Good to talk to you, Elliot Clough, as we check in on the
- 43:37Hawk. Come back, wrap up our #1 Miller
- 43:39and Condon talking sports with you on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 43:42Network. Hi, Melanie Condon, welcome
- 44:00back. Final couple of minutes, Our
- 44:02first hour of the program, we've been distracted, not distracted,
- 44:06distracted in a good way by the NCAA tournaments going on the
- 44:10WNBA. Do they have an agreement?
- 44:11Is it signed, sealed and delivered?
- 44:13It's a great question that I don't have the official answer
- 44:15to. It felt like was that a Friday
- 44:18ago that. It seemed like everything was in
- 44:21place. And then when we.
- 44:22Look at the terms of the deal. I got to think the players got
- 44:26what they were, what they sought and what they deserved, which
- 44:29was significant raise. The reason I ask is Kathy
- 44:32Engelbert, the commissioner of the of the WNBA show on McAfee
- 44:35show. I can't hear.
- 44:36We have no sound in the studios, one would assume.
- 44:41And there was there was Caitlin Clark was part of it, just
- 44:44showing how she had the Engelbert had to be squirming
- 44:47her shit seat with all the CC stuff that was up there way too
- 44:51much. Yeah, way too much for her
- 44:52liking because it's more than her, right.
- 44:55Anyways, I think it's done. I think we can have WNBA in May.
- 44:59And significant raises it sounds like.
- 45:01Big raises. Absolutely.
- 45:03Long time coming. Good stuff.
- 45:04Good. Summer content for us.
- 45:06There you go, when she's healthy.
- 45:08Yeah, that's for sure not the case last year.
- 45:11David Kaplan kicks off our number 2 Rob Doster on the final
- 45:15Four, Miller and Condon on Des Moines Sports Station One O 6.3
