- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back.
- 0:01Speaker 2: This is technically episode six. Welcome to episode six. We
- 0:05Speaker 2: have a very special tree for you today. It's actually
- 0:08Speaker 2: technically our first guest in recording order. But joining us
- 0:13Speaker 2: today on the back of the bus is x VFL
- 0:16Speaker 2: recording artist songwriter Wow Thomas Edwards.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Everyone give it up for Thomas Edwards.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Thomas.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Hey, you did say something, though you know I'm not
- 0:32Speaker 4: an x VFL man. I'm a vol for honestly saying
- 0:35Speaker 4: that felt weird.
- 0:36Speaker 2: He Thomas did play for the University of Tennessee, but
- 0:39Speaker 2: he is correct. He is a once a VFL, always
- 0:43Speaker 2: a VFL. Except for maybe Matt Malone, our intern.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're not gonna We're not gonna much time on him.
- 0:49Speaker 5: We already said.
- 0:51Speaker 6: Now, yeah, yeah, most weekends and oh yeah.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Which you know, it's funny to go down to t Town,
- 0:58Speaker 2: but not every weekend you hold it down in Knoxville.
- 1:01Speaker 2: But yeah, this is a super special episode because me
- 1:04Speaker 2: and Garrett are very very close with Thomas. He's one
- 1:06Speaker 2: of our greatest friends. He is a very talented songwriter
- 1:10Speaker 2: and musician. He is going to blow up, and if
- 1:14Speaker 2: he's not already on that path, it's really cool to
- 1:17Speaker 2: have you here, Thomas oh Man, We would love for
- 1:20Speaker 2: you to maybe give the viewers who don't know who
- 1:22Speaker 2: you are a little background. Maybe start from like day one,
- 1:26Speaker 2: you know, first breath, first memory, and then just kind
- 1:28Speaker 2: of go from there.
- 1:30Speaker 6: So my parents are hanging out in the summer of
- 1:32Speaker 6: nineteen ninety four and they felt an immense passionate love
- 1:35Speaker 6: fall across them, and then they banged. And I came
- 1:37Speaker 6: out in nineteen ninety five in March. But then, so
- 1:41Speaker 6: the most recent parts of my life that are noteworthy
- 1:45Speaker 6: expand on that ekspan, on that I played football at Tennessee.
- 1:50Speaker 6: You know, my NFL dreams got smashed because I got
- 1:53Speaker 6: a shoulder surgery my senior year. And it wasn't just
- 1:57Speaker 6: my shoulder surgery that smashed my NFL dreams. I also
- 1:59Speaker 6: did and play a lot, but the shoulder thing was
- 2:04Speaker 6: just icing on the cake. I grew up playing a
- 2:07Speaker 6: lot of music. My family is a big music family.
- 2:09Speaker 6: Always to my great grandpa, he was a He played
- 2:12Speaker 6: banjo for June Carter back in the day when she
- 2:15Speaker 6: was in the Carter Sisters. And my mom and dad,
- 2:17Speaker 6: aunt and uncle, grandpa, grandma cousins. They all play music
- 2:21Speaker 6: and so it's always been a part of my life.
- 2:24Speaker 6: And then I went to play football because I was
- 2:25Speaker 6: a big, burly men, and I was like, I gotta
- 2:27Speaker 6: do something about this.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Played football for a little bit and then.
- 2:32Speaker 6: Got a sorry, I love a camera social.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I love a moment on the camera. Love a
- 2:37Speaker 4: moment on the camera, man.
- 2:39Speaker 6: So then you know, I got played football for a
- 2:41Speaker 6: little bit, and you know, my life kind of switched
- 2:44Speaker 6: when even though I didn't play a lot, you know,
- 2:47Speaker 6: you still had to practice the same amount. So when
- 2:49Speaker 6: you get hurt in football, you go from one hundred
- 2:51Speaker 6: miles an hour to zero. And during that I kind
- 2:54Speaker 6: of just like was like, what the heck am I doing?
- 2:55Speaker 6: I need to figure out something to do with my times.
- 2:57Speaker 6: I picked up a guitar and I wrote my f
- 3:00Speaker 6: song when I was in college, and then I, uh,
- 3:03Speaker 6: you know, I had this kind of unrealistic life at Tennessee,
- 3:06Speaker 6: and I was grateful that I kind of realized that early.
- 3:09Speaker 6: I was like, you know what, I'm just gonna move
- 3:10Speaker 6: to the middle of nowhere and just go live in
- 3:13Speaker 6: the real world. Because the funny thing about like Tennessee
- 3:15Speaker 6: you play there and then like you like me, a
- 3:18Speaker 6: guy was a non contributor. I go to the mall
- 3:20Speaker 6: and like, people know who I am when I'm at
- 3:22Speaker 6: the food court, you know, and that's just like not
- 3:25Speaker 6: a real depiction of life. And I knew that, and
- 3:27Speaker 6: I'm grateful that I had that awareness. So I just
- 3:29Speaker 6: moved to the middle of nowhere. I moved to Franklin, Kentucky,
- 3:32Speaker 6: which is like an hour and fifteen minutes north of here.
- 3:34Speaker 1: In Nashville gambling hall, Yeah, yeah, it's right.
- 3:37Speaker 4: They busited me, they came. Yeah.
- 3:40Speaker 6: I just lived across the street from this warehouse I
- 3:42Speaker 6: worked at for three years, and then about two years
- 3:45Speaker 6: into that, I was like, I don't want to do
- 3:46Speaker 6: this anymore. Worked another year, saved up money, and then
- 3:48Speaker 6: Quentin started doing music.
- 3:49Speaker 1: No, I just cut you off. Thomas Ayes like it
- 3:50Speaker 1: was some like low tractor supply.
- 3:54Speaker 2: He was the youngest in history there and he was
- 3:56Speaker 2: running a floor of how many people.
- 3:58Speaker 6: It was a million square footwear house, six hundred employees.
- 4:01Speaker 6: I was the production manager. So I was like, my
- 4:03Speaker 6: job was over it, but you know, yeah, my job
- 4:07Speaker 6: was was a fun job.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Man. It was every day.
- 4:09Speaker 6: I on Monday, I would get on a call with
- 4:11Speaker 6: a bunch of executives at a tractor supply and convinced
- 4:15Speaker 6: them without lying that the building wasn't on fire and
- 4:17Speaker 6: we weren't behind on everything, and it really it was
- 4:20Speaker 6: a great life lesson though. It taught me how to
- 4:21Speaker 6: like strategically lie to corporate people, which is a great
- 4:25Speaker 6: it's a great skill to have, especially.
- 4:27Speaker 7: Not gonna help us get a sponsorship for don't do
- 4:29Speaker 7: that yet.
- 4:31Speaker 6: Actually, I uh just got a sponsorship from trying to
- 4:34Speaker 6: supply let's go actually do the work for whatever their
- 4:41Speaker 6: slogan or in the process of it. Man, So I
- 4:43Speaker 6: don't even know what even even means, but it's pretty cool, man.
- 4:45Speaker 6: It's they'd have a they're very really passionate their heckquarter
- 4:48Speaker 6: out of Nashville and have a big presence with music
- 4:50Speaker 6: and love music. And I grew up going there with
- 4:53Speaker 6: a farm in East Tennessee and then worked there and
- 4:55Speaker 6: then now I play music. So it's just kind of
- 4:58Speaker 6: was a softball toss, you know how that came to
- 5:00Speaker 6: be though. I just cold emailed the CEO of tractors.
- 5:03Speaker 8: Fly y'all need a manager?
- 5:05Speaker 6: Classic, Yeah, I was just like, hey, you guys want
- 5:08Speaker 6: to sponsor me? I used to work there and they're like, yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 6: talk to the and you just emailed me back. Oh god,
- 5:13Speaker 6: you know they just worked.
- 5:16Speaker 9: Yeah, were you all in charge of I'm guessing since
- 5:19Speaker 9: it was a warehouse, were you in charge of like
- 5:21Speaker 9: the shipping and receiving side to stores.
- 5:24Speaker 6: Or yeah, so that it was a distribution center. So
- 5:27Speaker 6: we save your Mars pet food, you send them that
- 5:30Speaker 6: bag goes from the Mars pet food plant to this
- 5:32Speaker 6: distribution center to the store.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:35Speaker 6: It's literally so not glamorous. I worked the whole time
- 5:38Speaker 6: during COVID that never closed, you know, that was essential.
- 5:42Speaker 6: Did My job became like air traffic controlling CDC regulations
- 5:46Speaker 6: that changed every day to five hundred employees that live.
- 5:49Speaker 4: In south central Kentucky that do not give a ship
- 5:51Speaker 4: about any of that. So, like it was crazy. That
- 5:54Speaker 4: was fun.
- 5:54Speaker 6: It was I love chaos, man, And it was just
- 5:57Speaker 6: chaos all the time. It was like, you guys, you
- 5:59Speaker 6: can you can go. You can take your mass off
- 6:01Speaker 6: outside now, but when you soon you step in the building,
- 6:03Speaker 6: you gotta have them on. Then then like three days later
- 6:05Speaker 6: it's like we gotta have masks on outside now.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And then it was just crazy.
- 6:09Speaker 6: Man. I was the guy that had to like take
- 6:11Speaker 6: this information and like train our managers on like how
- 6:14Speaker 6: to disseminate it between people and crazy.
- 6:17Speaker 4: It was just nuts.
- 6:17Speaker 6: That was like a thing I did in my life,
- 6:19Speaker 6: and it seems so far away, but it really was
- 6:21Speaker 6: like four years ago, that long ago.
- 6:23Speaker 2: So I feel like most people in here can relate,
- 6:25Speaker 2: if not everyone, Like not.
- 6:27Speaker 1: All of us played football.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Mitch played football in college's Usquehanna, but for most of us,
- 6:33Speaker 2: it's like I feel like we started in a like
- 6:34Speaker 2: kind of non glorious atmosphere, whether it was like for
- 6:37Speaker 2: me selling windows or like just like whatever mundane job
- 6:41Speaker 2: you did before you maybe took a chance on being creative.
- 6:44Speaker 2: So like we might not understand the whole like football
- 6:46Speaker 2: dilemma and like being recognized, you know, West Town mall
- 6:49Speaker 2: to being here and chatter supply, but I feel like
- 6:51Speaker 2: we all can take a piece of like you do
- 6:54Speaker 2: really have to take a shot. Like I don't want
- 6:57Speaker 2: to turn this into some like someone dining down there,
- 7:01Speaker 2: like shut.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Up, is everybody okay?
- 7:05Speaker 10: I said, I don't want this to turn into some
- 7:11Speaker 10: like motivational speech podcast, but I do think it's important
- 7:14Speaker 10: for any like aspiring creatives out there.
- 7:17Speaker 2: To know, like it doesn't just happen, like you're not
- 7:19Speaker 2: gonna just wake up and be in like some dream
- 7:22Speaker 2: opportunity where like everything's cool and kosher. Like even today
- 7:25Speaker 2: when we work in this atmosphere where it's amazing, there's
- 7:27Speaker 2: still very much stressful days and like chaotic opportunities all
- 7:31Speaker 2: the time. But you know, it's important, I feel like
- 7:34Speaker 2: to figure out like what you don't like doing before
- 7:35Speaker 2: you figure out like what you do like doing. So
- 7:38Speaker 2: I feel like everyone can kind of take a little
- 7:39Speaker 2: piece of what you're saying, like once you figure out that, like, yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 2: the warehouse is not for me, and you take a
- 7:45Speaker 2: risk creatively, like that's.
- 7:46Speaker 1: What ultimately pays off.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And we've had millions of conversations and kitchens late night
- 7:51Speaker 2: talking about this exact idea. But will you kind of
- 7:54Speaker 2: like walk us through like your process on starting your
- 7:57Speaker 2: music endeavors and like where you kind of stem from
- 7:59Speaker 2: outside out of you being already musically inclined.
- 8:02Speaker 6: Yeah, dde uh well, I think in the tune of
- 8:06Speaker 6: that creative thing man like that it's it's it's you know,
- 8:10Speaker 6: someone told me when I first was working, it was
- 8:12Speaker 6: like you can't take advice from average people if you
- 8:14Speaker 6: want to do something different. So as soon as I
- 8:16Speaker 6: kind of learned that and realize, like, if people don't
- 8:19Speaker 6: understand what I want to do, it's just on them.
- 8:21Speaker 6: It's not the fact that I'm crazy. If you want
- 8:23Speaker 6: to do something, you can just do it. You just
- 8:24Speaker 6: figure out how to do it, you know. And that's
- 8:27Speaker 6: kind of the approach that took the whole time. And
- 8:29Speaker 6: I used to be a guy that was like I
- 8:30Speaker 6: don't want to ask him because he's going to say no.
- 8:32Speaker 6: And now it's just like I don't even care. Le's
- 8:34Speaker 6: look back to that email thing. It's just you know,
- 8:37Speaker 6: And I learned that, like, you know, getting into music,
- 8:40Speaker 6: I had this wall up that like I cared too
- 8:42Speaker 6: much that someone else cared about what I was doing.
- 8:44Speaker 6: And then the most liberating thing that kind of accelerated
- 8:48Speaker 6: everything in my in my world was when I just
- 8:51Speaker 6: let go of that. And and the biggest thing, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 6: the kind of the first domino that fell for me
- 8:56Speaker 6: to kind of you know, wave my arms in Nashville
- 8:58Speaker 6: and say, hey, look at me, I'm I make a music,
- 9:01Speaker 6: it was when I did that Tennessee song, and it's
- 9:04Speaker 6: a song that's so deliberately about my life. And so
- 9:08Speaker 6: when I was righting, I was like, this is lame
- 9:09Speaker 6: as hell, Like who the hell, Like, who's gonna like?
- 9:11Speaker 6: What is this even? But my manager, Rusty, me and
- 9:14Speaker 6: him wrote it together. He's he's from East Tennessee and
- 9:16Speaker 6: he's not a music manager. We just kind of partnered
- 9:19Speaker 6: up and rubbed some sticks together and made some shit happen.
- 9:21Speaker 4: But the but yeah, he was like, that's exactly what
- 9:25Speaker 4: people want to hear.
- 9:25Speaker 6: And then and then that song came out and then
- 9:28Speaker 6: the school wrapped their arm around it. They played into
- 9:30Speaker 6: the you know, on the JumboTron and stuff, and and
- 9:33Speaker 6: then they they came to town here to open the
- 9:36Speaker 6: season one day or one year against Virginia. In that
- 9:39Speaker 6: first day, uh, the game of the season, they played
- 9:42Speaker 6: it in Nissan And that was kind of the my
- 9:45Speaker 6: entry into this.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Music business world.
- 9:46Speaker 6: It was just like, you have these music executives that
- 9:49Speaker 6: you know or either they have control and know what's
- 9:52Speaker 6: going on in the country music space, and all of
- 9:54Speaker 6: a sudden there's this huge sasquatch looking dude on the
- 9:56Speaker 6: jumbo tron singing a song that that hadn't heard. And
- 9:58Speaker 6: then and that was kind of that what got the
- 10:00Speaker 6: ball rolling. But you know that's that was all the
- 10:03Speaker 6: external stuff I think it. You know, I quit my
- 10:05Speaker 6: job in two thousand October twenty twenty one, and last
- 10:11Speaker 6: year in twenty twenty four, in March, I signed a
- 10:14Speaker 6: publishing deal, which is the first revenue stream.
- 10:16Speaker 4: That I got from music. So they're.
- 10:21Speaker 6: To go.
- 10:22Speaker 4: They like to think the academy.
- 10:25Speaker 11: Like.
- 10:25Speaker 6: The funny thing is is like every time that I
- 10:28Speaker 6: thought I was going to get to the point where
- 10:30Speaker 6: I was like, that made it. You just read you're
- 10:33Speaker 6: as a creative, your brain just kind of restructures towards
- 10:35Speaker 6: another mountain that's far away. And and I learned that, like,
- 10:39Speaker 6: you know, through that process, you have to be you
- 10:42Speaker 6: have to be comfortable and excited for doing what you're
- 10:45Speaker 6: doing every day. You know, Like the marathon's twenty six
- 10:48Speaker 6: miles and the finish line is one foot you know,
- 10:50Speaker 6: you have.
- 10:51Speaker 4: To like the you have to.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Like the quote graphic.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, man, that's time war time.
- 11:00Speaker 6: A marathon is twenty six miles and runners are crazy
- 11:03Speaker 6: and they don't like the finish line. They like the
- 11:05Speaker 6: way they feel when they're in mile nineteen, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 6: And so just you know, you just got to know
- 11:10Speaker 6: that the process is more important, especially for a creative,
- 11:13Speaker 6: and it's so hard not to fall, especially in this
- 11:16Speaker 6: forward facing business that we're we're all in this where
- 11:19Speaker 6: your work is put on a pedestal immediately, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 6: and there's no time for editing and reactions. It's just
- 11:26Speaker 6: like more more stuff out there that's promotes what we
- 11:28Speaker 6: got to do. And you know, the way that I
- 11:32Speaker 6: keep sanity is that we make paper airplanes as creatives,
- 11:36Speaker 6: and we close our eyes on top of a mountain
- 11:38Speaker 6: and we chuck them. And the best creatives, as soon
- 11:41Speaker 6: as they chuck them, they just look right back down
- 11:43Speaker 6: to start making them more paper airplanes. Where they land
- 11:46Speaker 6: have nothing to do with who you are, who you
- 11:48Speaker 6: are as a creative. There's wind, there's rain, there's walls,
- 11:51Speaker 6: there's people, there's all these things that happen after they're
- 11:53Speaker 6: off out of your hands.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go, man, It's.
- 11:56Speaker 6: All right, you get me going, man, But like I
- 11:58Speaker 6: just so I just got I know, man, shit, sorry,
- 12:02Speaker 6: I get excited, but like that's a I just kind
- 12:04Speaker 6: of I realized that no one was gonna tell that
- 12:06Speaker 6: shit to me, and I had to tell it to myself.
- 12:08Speaker 6: And I just started working on my body of work.
- 12:10Speaker 6: And you know, the other day I wrote my kind
- 12:14Speaker 6: of counted all my songs since I'd been writing, and
- 12:17Speaker 6: I'd written two hundred and twelve songs in the two
- 12:20Speaker 6: years and.
- 12:22Speaker 3: A twelve paper airplanes.
- 12:23Speaker 6: Yeah, it's right, man, Guess how many of them are good?
- 12:25Speaker 6: Maybe twenty, maybe thirty, maybe I don't even know, Like
- 12:28Speaker 6: I don't even what's good even mean at this Like,
- 12:31Speaker 6: once you start doing that so much, it's like your
- 12:34Speaker 6: your brain opens up, because, like you know, as this
- 12:36Speaker 6: music consumer, everyone has this is this good?
- 12:39Speaker 4: Is this bad?
- 12:40Speaker 6: And that's where you start at. Then you realize, oh,
- 12:42Speaker 6: this could be good for someone else. I get it,
- 12:45Speaker 6: you know, and then it kind of expands on that
- 12:47Speaker 6: and and through that I figured out the kind of
- 12:50Speaker 6: music that I like to make. And it's only just
- 12:52Speaker 6: through doing throwing two hundred and twelve paper airplanes that
- 12:55Speaker 6: you realize you figure out that I just like making
- 12:58Speaker 6: paper airplanes.
- 12:59Speaker 4: You know, like it's up to it's up to the
- 13:00Speaker 4: people if they want to laying you know, man, Yeah, yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 4: my bad, y'all.
- 13:14Speaker 12: It's so cool to like see like your ascension and
- 13:18Speaker 12: stuff already, even though like you've just started, and like
- 13:20Speaker 12: we like Jack and G introduced us to you, like
- 13:24Speaker 12: just as it started, like when you were first started.
- 13:26Speaker 12: Like I remember going to your uh, like when you
- 13:28Speaker 12: played an ACME and that was like, this is so sick,
- 13:31Speaker 12: Like I know that guy and he's out here performing
- 13:33Speaker 12: in front of however many people they were.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Yeah, that was that was awesome.
- 13:36Speaker 4: That was the the fire marshalled that night at that
- 13:38Speaker 4: ACME thing, because.
- 13:39Speaker 5: It was that the Virginia Tech game.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it was the same game.
- 13:42Speaker 7: I plugged in an old hard drive at home recently
- 13:44Speaker 7: looking for something and came across pictures from that.
- 13:47Speaker 4: It's crazy, man, that's wild.
- 13:49Speaker 5: That you were talking about that.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think the craziest thing with my music
- 13:53Speaker 6: career is I have been incredibly you know, and it's
- 13:56Speaker 6: probably to my own defeat and sometimes, you know, I
- 14:00Speaker 6: my progress is kind of like unless you're like my
- 14:02Speaker 6: friend and I talk about it to you, that's like
- 14:04Speaker 6: you wouldn't really like if you look went to my
- 14:05Speaker 6: instagram right now, you wouldn't really know like all the
- 14:08Speaker 6: things that were going on, you know, and I've kind
- 14:10Speaker 6: of you know, you know, at first, it was like
- 14:13Speaker 6: I think I was like you know, I got to
- 14:15Speaker 6: do something about this.
- 14:16Speaker 4: But like, I don't know.
- 14:17Speaker 6: I think as I kind of got more into this,
- 14:19Speaker 6: I realized, like, you know, I loving what I'm doing
- 14:22Speaker 6: right now, and I'm making progress in this business world
- 14:25Speaker 6: like that that's just a piece of the pie. Like
- 14:27Speaker 6: when't and I have songs coming out starting next month,
- 14:30Speaker 6: so that you know, the world changed there where you
- 14:32Speaker 6: know we're you're I'm gonna be inundating you with my
- 14:35Speaker 6: stuff on the internet. It's soon, but you know, it's
- 14:37Speaker 6: it's been really it's kind of been a soul searching
- 14:39Speaker 6: thing because I don't have these you know, there's not
- 14:42Speaker 6: a there's not an Instagram grid milestone thing that you
- 14:45Speaker 6: typically see from the you know, and from an artist.
- 14:49Speaker 6: And I just learned that from that helped me so
- 14:51Speaker 6: much to know that like that's not what matters.
- 14:54Speaker 4: You know.
- 14:54Speaker 6: I know that I started writing songs. I know that
- 14:57Speaker 6: I got a publishing deal, and then I know I
- 14:59Speaker 6: got a record deal, and I know there's people that
- 15:00Speaker 6: believe in me and are just straight up gambling on
- 15:04Speaker 6: me with zero data analytic backing, just like, hey, this
- 15:07Speaker 6: guy's got a good story to tell and he can
- 15:09Speaker 6: make music and that's what gets me up every day,
- 15:12Speaker 6: and not the fact that it's like did this do well?
- 15:14Speaker 6: Does this thing do well? And it's so easy to
- 15:16Speaker 6: get caught up in that. In this in a creative,
- 15:18Speaker 6: forward facing job, like I think.
- 15:20Speaker 7: To build off of that and to give you some
- 15:22Speaker 7: credit on top of you being incredibly talented, when you
- 15:27Speaker 7: walk in a room, you're immediately friends with everybody in
- 15:30Speaker 7: there for sure. And that is something that I've always
- 15:34Speaker 7: thought about you, is you have such a leg up
- 15:37Speaker 7: in that aspect. Is I hate using the word like
- 15:41Speaker 7: you're sellable, but yeah, you get in a room with
- 15:43Speaker 7: the right people, then it's like you know how to
- 15:46Speaker 7: just be yourself and then let the music put that
- 15:49Speaker 7: cherry on top where they're like, oh shit, like this
- 15:52Speaker 7: guy's not only a good guy, honest, truth to himself, funny,
- 15:57Speaker 7: but he can fucking ball.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Yeah. And that's kind of my whole thing. Man.
- 16:00Speaker 6: I just want people to feel good and the way
- 16:03Speaker 6: that and with no because that's what makes me feel good.
- 16:07Speaker 6: And the medium in which that that happens is up
- 16:09Speaker 6: to them, Like if I can talk to them and say, hey,
- 16:12Speaker 6: you know, make them feel good in five seconds in
- 16:13Speaker 6: the room, or if they can just go home and
- 16:15Speaker 6: listen to a song that makes.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Them feel good like that.
- 16:17Speaker 6: I just always say I like to I like to
- 16:19Speaker 6: sing with a smile, man, Like, very seldomly am I
- 16:21Speaker 6: singing this dejected sad you know, Like my sad songs
- 16:25Speaker 6: are like, man, I got my heart broke, but at
- 16:28Speaker 6: least I learned something. You know, there's always this redeep
- 16:32Speaker 6: shit at the end of it. Because that's how I
- 16:33Speaker 6: am as a person. Man, I'm just I was very
- 16:35Speaker 6: grateful to have parents that you know, we're just like
- 16:38Speaker 6: you can do whatever you want all the time. And
- 16:40Speaker 6: I mean in my all my brothers. My older brother
- 16:44Speaker 6: is a criminal defense litigator in Philadelphia. My little brother's
- 16:46Speaker 6: about to be a park ranger. So like we are
- 16:49Speaker 6: doing the things that they said and it's just and
- 16:52Speaker 6: I attribute then that's how my mom is. She doesn't
- 16:54Speaker 6: she doesn't know stranger man. She'll talk to the person.
- 16:56Speaker 6: She's She's the reason why I don't use self checkout
- 16:59Speaker 6: at the grocery store. Like if you talk, She's like,
- 17:01Speaker 6: if you talk to them for five seconds, you don't
- 17:03Speaker 6: understand how much it's going to do for you. And
- 17:04Speaker 6: I was just you know, when you're when you're like
- 17:06Speaker 6: a rebellious kid. You're like, shut up, mom, checking, I'm
- 17:14Speaker 6: getting this nass energy drink, you know. But she's so right,
- 17:18Speaker 6: you know me. Meaningless interactions are not meaningless, you know.
- 17:21Speaker 6: We dubbed them as that because the pace of life
- 17:23Speaker 6: goes too fast, and I think of I think that
- 17:27Speaker 6: my job on earth is to is to let people
- 17:29Speaker 6: know that and remind them of that with me being
- 17:31Speaker 6: around them or just playing stupid little fun songs.
- 17:34Speaker 4: You know.
- 17:34Speaker 6: You know it's yeah, I've won the lottery because I've
- 17:37Speaker 6: figured that out. And I think that's the one thing
- 17:39Speaker 6: that I will tell everyone is like, just spend time
- 17:42Speaker 6: trying to figure it out.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Whatever it is for you. At least you can do
- 17:46Speaker 4: is just try, you know.
- 17:47Speaker 5: For sure.
- 17:48Speaker 7: Going back to like you talking about your Instagram feed
- 17:51Speaker 7: and all that kind of stuff, there's not really milestones.
- 17:53Speaker 7: But there have been some Easter eggs recently that you've
- 17:56Speaker 7: been putting out that are awesome to see. And from
- 18:01Speaker 7: my understanding, they're mostly covers, yeah, but they're shot really well.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's just you and a microphone.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 7: And that is my favorite Thomas Edwards, because I feel
- 18:12Speaker 7: like that's the Thomas Edwards I knew first have those
- 18:17Speaker 7: been Obviously they are a lot of fun to do.
- 18:19Speaker 7: But when you're posting that stuff for you, are you
- 18:23Speaker 7: kind of like putting teasers out of like the vibe
- 18:25Speaker 7: you're going for or is this just something for you personally?
- 18:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I just I just oh, that's a great question
- 18:31Speaker 6: because this the first song that I'm dropping is it's
- 18:35Speaker 6: a it's a very fun drinking song and it's it's
- 18:39Speaker 6: I'm talking half the time in the song, you know,
- 18:42Speaker 6: for my sanity, you know, after I'm coming out of
- 18:43Speaker 6: the gates and this major record label deal with this
- 18:47Speaker 6: song where I'm talking half the time. Yeah, Well, the
- 18:51Speaker 6: lady that signed me at Warner signed Sam Hunt at Universal.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I love Sam Hunt.
- 18:55Speaker 4: She also sung Casey most Graves.
- 18:57Speaker 6: You are also just the kind of her ideology of
- 18:59Speaker 6: artist are kind of in my wheelhouse, where it's just
- 19:02Speaker 6: like we're country by nature, but not by the business
- 19:05Speaker 6: denomination of country music. And I think that's in this
- 19:09Speaker 6: world and we're innundated with the same things and country
- 19:12Speaker 6: music all the time. It's just like people ride the wave.
- 19:15Speaker 6: And here's another analogy, man, it's a you know, in
- 19:19Speaker 6: this town, you can be a cruise ship or you
- 19:20Speaker 6: can be a little dinghy boat. You know, there's a
- 19:22Speaker 6: cruise ships go out in the ocean. They're massive and
- 19:25Speaker 6: they break through the waves and the result of that
- 19:28Speaker 6: is behind them there's a clear path for many many people,
- 19:31Speaker 6: and smaller boats can last in the waters behind a
- 19:35Speaker 6: big yacht or a big, huge cruise ship. It takes
- 19:38Speaker 6: a long time to build a yacht at the poor
- 19:40Speaker 6: It takes a long time to build a cruise ship.
- 19:41Speaker 6: And sometimes when you're building it, you're like, man, I
- 19:43Speaker 6: just want to get out in the water, Like, look
- 19:45Speaker 6: at all these people. They're out there in the water
- 19:46Speaker 6: ten miles out. But if that big cruise ship that
- 19:49Speaker 6: they're behind goes to Poor ever, then they don't even
- 19:52Speaker 6: know what the open waters feel like. And that's everything
- 19:55Speaker 6: that you're doing in life. I mean, it's not even
- 19:57Speaker 6: just music. It's like you have to realize that everybody
- 20:00Speaker 6: has their cruise ship to build, and once you spend
- 20:02Speaker 6: time doing that and it's ready to go out to
- 20:04Speaker 6: the ocean, then you're gonna have you'll be successful and
- 20:07Speaker 6: whatever it is.
- 20:08Speaker 4: It's a ten thousand hour thing, you know.
- 20:09Speaker 8: And so first big purchase, yeah, yeah, dude.
- 20:12Speaker 6: It's yeah, first first big purchase, three hundred and sixty
- 20:15Speaker 6: five day cruise on Royal.
- 20:18Speaker 4: I'll be behind you.
- 20:20Speaker 6: Yeah, sorryer making it so like inspirational. Man, I'm also
- 20:22Speaker 6: not really a serious guy, but like when I get
- 20:24Speaker 6: a mic in my hand, I feel like I have
- 20:25Speaker 6: something to say to people.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Man, I can't.
- 20:27Speaker 5: That's what it's for.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what it's for.
- 20:29Speaker 5: This podcast is our dingy boat.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's right, Sherman.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Sherman just whispered to me. Can I ask him something?
- 20:34Speaker 2: So I think he wants to ask the question.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Cut me off at any time because I just run
- 20:39Speaker 4: my mouth.
- 20:39Speaker 5: No, you're not running around.
- 20:41Speaker 4: You're the guests.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Socks, Drincken socks.
- 20:44Speaker 9: When you first came in, you were talking a little
- 20:47Speaker 9: bit about this, but uh, with the new deal, did
- 20:50Speaker 9: you feel like your paper airplanes were made with notebook
- 20:54Speaker 9: paper and now you have construction paper, and like, how
- 21:00Speaker 9: how does that now throwing off change the energy? I
- 21:04Speaker 9: guess of like your creative process.
- 21:08Speaker 6: Yeah, man, It's what I say all the time is
- 21:11Speaker 6: I was creative broke for a long time. It's it's
- 21:14Speaker 6: it's that's when you figure out.
- 21:15Speaker 4: If you're really creative.
- 21:16Speaker 6: You know, it's like if you make some it's like
- 21:18Speaker 6: that toy Story four when they make.
- 21:20Speaker 4: The forky or whatever they think legend.
- 21:23Speaker 6: Yeah dude, yeah, he goes, am I trash. There's so
- 21:30Speaker 6: many great existential moments of that. But uh, but I
- 21:34Speaker 6: think that now it's just what it is, is just
- 21:36Speaker 6: exactly what you're saying. It just excites me even more
- 21:38Speaker 6: that I like, I can go into the Warner studios
- 21:41Speaker 6: and just say, hey, I want to do some covers.
- 21:43Speaker 6: I just went in there for two hours one day
- 21:44Speaker 6: and had two videographers in there that that was their passion.
- 21:48Speaker 6: I mean I was talking to the guy that was
- 21:49Speaker 6: the videographer and and wasted thirty minutes of that. Now
- 21:53Speaker 6: not waste, but this is just who I am. But
- 21:55Speaker 6: like he's like I used to be a wildlife photographer
- 21:57Speaker 6: and I was like, dude, you ever seen Secret Life
- 21:58Speaker 6: of Walter Mittie? And he was like, was so good?
- 22:02Speaker 6: And uh and then we just talked about that forever
- 22:04Speaker 6: because it's so good. But to your to your question,
- 22:06Speaker 6: the uh, yes, it just inspires me more.
- 22:09Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:09Speaker 6: The at first I sought the validation. I thought the
- 22:12Speaker 6: validation was gonna make the paper better, you know. But
- 22:15Speaker 6: really it was just the tools and the abilities that
- 22:17Speaker 6: it could further my ability to be creative. They got
- 22:19Speaker 6: me excited the fact that there's a little nice studio
- 22:21Speaker 6: that has a wonderful mic that I can just go
- 22:23Speaker 6: in there and I literally just was. I just had
- 22:25Speaker 6: a guitar and a piano and I was just like
- 22:27Speaker 6: running through songs that I could play and it's just fun,
- 22:30Speaker 6: you know. And then I could just leave that and
- 22:32Speaker 6: then a week later get a Google Drive length, like,
- 22:34Speaker 6: I'm so grateful for that after years of propping my
- 22:38Speaker 6: phone up and you know, it's filming grainy, you know
- 22:43Speaker 6: how it is. Man, It's just it's just inspiring now.
- 22:46Speaker 6: It's it just it lights another fire in the end
- 22:49Speaker 6: to make more music. And it's it's been awesome.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Man. Sick.
- 22:54Speaker 9: You're deserving of it. It's cool to see it, dude.
- 22:56Speaker 4: I appreciate it. Man.
- 22:57Speaker 6: I don't deserve nothing. Man, I'm just here for a
- 22:59Speaker 6: good time. You'll feel good, man. I think that's the
- 23:02Speaker 6: That's what keeps me afloat, man, that's what keeps my
- 23:05Speaker 6: keeps the ship.
- 23:06Speaker 4: On the water.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah, changing gears a little bit. You bring up a
- 23:11Speaker 2: secret life of Walter Midi obviously incredible film, and one
- 23:15Speaker 2: of my favorite lines that whole movie is at the
- 23:16Speaker 2: end when they're up in like the Pakistanian mount or something,
- 23:19Speaker 2: he goes, are you gonna take the photo? And he goes,
- 23:22Speaker 2: sometimes I don't. Beautiful things don't ask for attention, And
- 23:25Speaker 2: that just kind of fires me up. But I know this,
- 23:28Speaker 2: Garrett knows this. We're big movie guys here. Oh yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 2: and this is this is my least favorite question of
- 23:33Speaker 2: all time.
- 23:34Speaker 1: But what's your favorite movie?
- 23:36Speaker 4: Oh uh?
- 23:37Speaker 6: Jack knows this. Well, I am the biggest movie critic.
- 23:40Speaker 6: I think we lack critics in art now because everyone
- 23:42Speaker 6: has a voice and everyone needs to shut up most
- 23:44Speaker 6: of the time.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Your phones are too cheap.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Yeah it's right, man, and we're just yeah, I'm telling
- 23:50Speaker 6: you man. Like you know, in the nineties, you could
- 23:52Speaker 6: live in fucking Manhattan and just be a snobby movie
- 23:55Speaker 6: critic and have a nice little apartment and that'd be
- 23:58Speaker 6: your job. But the Internet came along and now we
- 24:00Speaker 6: devalue those opinions. Well, and I think that's just my
- 24:03Speaker 6: sobox about that. My favorite movie is a Soul Pixar movie.
- 24:09Speaker 6: It's just pound for pound, man, it's then does the
- 24:13Speaker 6: soundtrack quite Cody?
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah, quite quite Cody. I have not, Jared, have you
- 24:22Speaker 4: seen that movie.
- 24:24Speaker 1: If you haven't seen that, If you're looking for something,
- 24:27Speaker 1: go watch Yeah, dude.
- 24:28Speaker 6: It's uh, it's it's one of those that's in My
- 24:30Speaker 6: second one is probably out of that wheelhouse is Parasite, The.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Stilled the Korean. Yeah, I won so many awards. Yeah
- 24:42Speaker 4: you don't.
- 24:42Speaker 6: I don't even feel like I'm reading subtitles in it.
- 24:44Speaker 6: Though it's shot so well, there's so much good. Like
- 24:47Speaker 6: the coolest thing about that movie Parasite is every part
- 24:50Speaker 6: that there's a person that has an economic status higher
- 24:53Speaker 6: than another person. They are physically higher than the other
- 24:57Speaker 6: person is in the shot in the movie every time.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Then you're in it.
- 25:00Speaker 11: Yeah, dude. Sorry, back to Seoul. I love Souls, but
- 25:05Speaker 11: I think they left so much meat on the bone.
- 25:07Speaker 4: I mean, what do you mean, Like it.
- 25:09Speaker 11: Was just the the climax of the movie at the
- 25:13Speaker 11: whole point didn't feel as hot.
- 25:15Speaker 8: I know, but like, I don't.
- 25:17Speaker 11: There wasn't like, what was your favorite bar from the
- 25:19Speaker 11: movie that you're like, there wasn't a bar.
- 25:21Speaker 4: It was the moment of this story about the fish
- 25:24Speaker 4: that's a great one.
- 25:25Speaker 6: Yeah, big Fish swims up to a little fish and says,
- 25:29Speaker 6: I'm looking for the ocean, and the ocean this is water.
- 25:34Speaker 8: But you know, I feel like in Kung Kung Fu Panda, Well, I.
- 25:37Speaker 6: Think that's kind of the moral of the whole movie,
- 25:39Speaker 6: Like there isn't this that movie Soul is incredibly existentialist.
- 25:44Speaker 4: It is it's about how existing.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Isn't this pomp and circumstance, huge fan ferret like at
- 25:50Speaker 6: the end of Star Wars when the Ewoks celebrate, you know,
- 25:53Speaker 6: like that like that doesn't exist, you know, And I
- 25:55Speaker 6: think that's the whole point of Like the spark isn't
- 25:57Speaker 6: a thing that you get in Seoul, It's it's just
- 26:00Speaker 6: being aware of the life that you're living. And that
- 26:02Speaker 6: he goes through that the end scene of Soul when
- 26:05Speaker 6: he places all the objects on the piano and plays
- 26:08Speaker 6: that outro piano music and then it just zooms out
- 26:12Speaker 6: from the piano to the New York City skyscape, to
- 26:15Speaker 6: America to the Earth, you know, like it's just it
- 26:18Speaker 6: wasn't even the line that's not it wasn't a line
- 26:20Speaker 6: that did. It was that moment of just kind of
- 26:22Speaker 6: like like I just that movie fifty times.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Just go this is a movie for kids, Like what
- 26:28Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying, Like.
- 26:29Speaker 8: It's just like this is a I would love to
- 26:30Speaker 8: watch it through kid's eyes.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, that's a great thing about it.
- 26:34Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, yeah, Like my teacher says that that line
- 26:40Speaker 6: before it is like we are you know, it's like
- 26:42Speaker 6: we are the collective energy of all that exists.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Yeah, that's great. Man.
- 26:48Speaker 9: Have you seen Mickey seventeen? No, it's the director that
- 26:52Speaker 9: did Parasite. It just came out, but it's an English film.
- 26:55Speaker 5: Uh, Robert Pattinson.
- 26:57Speaker 9: Robert Pattins, it was really really good, and watch it's
- 27:01Speaker 9: it's got some deep tropes to you.
- 27:03Speaker 6: Yeah, dude, I love one. That's and that's why I
- 27:06Speaker 6: bring back that critic thing critics in a movie. In
- 27:08Speaker 6: a movie critic world, that's like healthy critics would help
- 27:12Speaker 6: the average list watcher or listener understand that after the
- 27:16Speaker 6: first watch, instead of asking a watch, someone say you
- 27:20Speaker 6: gotta go watch it three times? Like that's what an
- 27:22Speaker 6: irresponsible ask. But time is valuable.
- 27:24Speaker 4: You know.
- 27:29Speaker 6: If someone says, if someone says you gotta go see
- 27:31Speaker 6: a movie and they say I saw that, I didn't
- 27:33Speaker 6: get it in the responses, you got to go watch
- 27:35Speaker 6: it again, Like either.
- 27:37Speaker 8: You failed your job, either the movie guy.
- 27:40Speaker 6: Failed or you're too dumb to watch this movie, you know,
- 27:42Speaker 6: Like it's just you can go watch one of the
- 27:44Speaker 6: Marvel movies.
- 27:45Speaker 4: So to shill in the Marvel movies, to Marvel.
- 27:52Speaker 12: Movies, hell to play, like Devil's Advocate. What about like
- 27:55Speaker 12: Inception and like Interstellar and like those movies that are
- 28:00Speaker 12: like they're not in the same vein as like Soul
- 28:02Speaker 12: and stuff like that. But those movies you have to
- 28:03Speaker 12: watch a couple of times, so you know what's going on.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Well, I mean I think you do, see, don't I
- 28:10Speaker 6: don't think. I don't think you need to, dude. Marvel
- 28:13Speaker 6: movies are why they are casting Robert Downey Junior in
- 28:15Speaker 6: the same universe for a different I'm with you on that,
- 28:18Speaker 6: but I mean.
- 28:20Speaker 1: It's not a fall off, but there is a level
- 28:23Speaker 1: of respect.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Guardians Galaxy is pretty good.
- 28:28Speaker 8: I didn't mean to take away from it.
- 28:29Speaker 1: And this goes back to Thomas being the ultimate critic.
- 28:31Speaker 4: I hate I hate everything.
- 28:33Speaker 6: Usually, yeah, I have to I have to put my
- 28:35Speaker 6: own opinion on it, Like I can't.
- 28:37Speaker 8: Like if you can't let someone else make their own
- 28:38Speaker 8: air like.
- 28:39Speaker 4: In the world.
- 28:39Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, man, I mean I'm but like if they
- 28:44Speaker 6: were good to make, if they knew how to make
- 28:46Speaker 6: paper airplanes, they wouldn't care what I said, you know.
- 28:48Speaker 4: They the.
- 28:51Speaker 3: But uh I don't know Interstellar.
- 28:53Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, I mean I get that, Like, you know,
- 28:56Speaker 6: like there's like I would like to meet the guy
- 28:58Speaker 6: that got Fight Club the first time, you know. Yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 6: I understand there are some mental flip movies, you know,
- 29:05Speaker 6: but I always check out. One of those that got
- 29:08Speaker 6: me was that Mother movie with Jennifer Lawrence. Oh yeah,
- 29:12Speaker 6: and I was like, oh, this is like the creation
- 29:14Speaker 6: of the world, you know, Like I was just like
- 29:16Speaker 6: it's like, damn, she's fucking crazy, you know, like, no,
- 29:19Speaker 6: this is this a bigger meeting.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Though she like came out and said, I will never
- 29:22Speaker 3: do anything like that.
- 29:23Speaker 6: Yeah, it kind of messed me up a little bit.
- 29:25Speaker 6: You know how funny is that we can just like
- 29:27Speaker 6: turn movies on our TV and just be like fucked
- 29:30Speaker 6: up by him forever.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Well yeah, and.
- 29:35Speaker 6: Also in the data was so much new ship this
- 29:37Speaker 6: day you have to have discretion and have an opinion
- 29:40Speaker 6: otherwise you're just gonna get suckered into whatever marketing campaigns
- 29:43Speaker 6: pushing something down your throat, Like did you see that
- 29:45Speaker 6: new series on Apple TV?
- 29:47Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 29:47Speaker 6: Another one came out last week, and then the one
- 29:50Speaker 6: before that one came out.
- 29:51Speaker 8: I give it like a shrinking in the studio.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Yeah, I give it like a nine month buffer, And
- 29:57Speaker 6: if people still talk about it nine months later, then
- 29:59Speaker 6: I all started.
- 30:00Speaker 4: I love that rule. I love that rule.
- 30:02Speaker 5: Did you watch Severance?
- 30:03Speaker 4: Yeah? I watched the first season, Severnce. I liked it.
- 30:05Speaker 5: You have watched second? Oh, you should watch the seasons.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I've watched a lot of TV lately. Man, you've been.
- 30:09Speaker 5: Busy back the speaking of it busy.
- 30:11Speaker 7: Yeah, you've recently had some I'm gonna take it back
- 30:14Speaker 7: to music, but you've recently had a couple of live shows,
- 30:18Speaker 7: like you did the Key West Songwriter Fest this year.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Third year. Yeah, thirdys, third year.
- 30:24Speaker 6: I played the big stage there for like, we did
- 30:26Speaker 6: an acoustic except for like seven thousand dude videos.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Looked Yeah, it looked awesome.
- 30:30Speaker 4: It was.
- 30:30Speaker 6: We played all originals too, and that's usually like taboo
- 30:34Speaker 6: in that environment. But like the Key West Songwriter Fest,
- 30:37Speaker 6: the people that are there is it's the best fans
- 30:40Speaker 6: because they're there for a songwriting fest. It's not like
- 30:44Speaker 6: you know, they're they they're sitting there listening to the words.
- 30:46Speaker 4: You know.
- 30:46Speaker 6: Usually people would just get drunk at festivals, you know,
- 30:49Speaker 6: and have a good time. But yeah, then we we
- 30:51Speaker 6: played Tortuga. We played Carolina Country Music Festival last week.
- 30:56Speaker 7: It's Tortuga where you wore the Kenney Powers. No, that
- 30:58Speaker 7: was Carolina, okay, because it was myrtle that was perfect,
- 31:03Speaker 7: but it was people were screaming, screaming Kenny Powers lines
- 31:07Speaker 7: at me, so I had to like keep composure while
- 31:09Speaker 7: I was singing.
- 31:10Speaker 4: And it rained.
- 31:11Speaker 6: It pour rain the whole day, like, and the festival
- 31:14Speaker 6: is delayed. But like we just like we just like
- 31:17Speaker 6: sat on the stage. We're just like waiting. It's like
- 31:20Speaker 6: he knows, like horses in a corral for like the
- 31:23Speaker 6: lightning delays to stop. And people came in and we
- 31:25Speaker 6: started playing there and then uh, we played like thirty
- 31:28Speaker 6: seconds of a song. We're getting rocking, and of course
- 31:31Speaker 6: you know, I'm a new guy, so I'm on the
- 31:32Speaker 6: I'm on the B stage. And then Colt Ford is
- 31:35Speaker 6: across this huge park and he starts and the stage
- 31:37Speaker 6: guy comes on and goes.
- 31:39Speaker 8: We gotta stop cold Ford going on.
- 31:41Speaker 6: So then we just we stopped and then we just
- 31:43Speaker 6: waited and then we just started again. But it was
- 31:46Speaker 6: just funny because there's two stages and they're so far
- 31:48Speaker 6: away from each other because you can't hear each other. Uh.
- 31:51Speaker 4: But then as soon as we started, I was just screaming.
- 31:53Speaker 6: We're over here because it was such a weird day
- 31:57Speaker 6: because it was rained out all day.
- 31:59Speaker 4: But yeah, we've been playing shows. Man.
- 32:01Speaker 6: You know, I got a band of four guys and
- 32:03Speaker 6: two of them are from East Tennessee and the we're
- 32:06Speaker 6: playing Sunday, we leave for wild Wood Country Festival in
- 32:10Speaker 6: New Jersey.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Really good time.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, is that the one on the beach?
- 32:15Speaker 4: Yeah, So it's funny. I've only played festivals on the beach.
- 32:22Speaker 5: What are those nerves like?
- 32:24Speaker 7: Like, you know, you do a lot of I mean,
- 32:26Speaker 7: you started doing music and putting it on the internet
- 32:30Speaker 7: covid ish and then you know you're in the studio
- 32:34Speaker 7: and then you're getting in front of these large crowds
- 32:36Speaker 7: with a band. Are there times when you're like oh shit,
- 32:39Speaker 7: oh shit, or shit?
- 32:40Speaker 5: Are you like?
- 32:41Speaker 4: This is awesome?
- 32:42Speaker 6: It's awesome? Man like, and that's why it's the best.
- 32:45Speaker 6: It's the icing on the cake for everything that I've
- 32:47Speaker 6: worked for, you know, like it's it is the it's
- 32:49Speaker 6: the opposite what you would think about nerves. Like I
- 32:52Speaker 6: get nerves sitting around here not playing music. You know,
- 32:54Speaker 6: Like if I'm sitting in my house and just like
- 32:56Speaker 6: idly sitting around, I'm like, what's going on?
- 32:58Speaker 4: You know?
- 32:58Speaker 6: And it's cause how I grew up. Like if there's
- 33:01Speaker 6: anything there's at my house right now, if my mom
- 33:04Speaker 6: and dad are there, someone's playing music.
- 33:05Speaker 4: My dad's playing fiddle or dude. Like the other day,
- 33:08Speaker 4: like like I grew up with that.
- 33:10Speaker 6: Like the other day, my dad sent me this, like
- 33:11Speaker 6: here's your grandma singing in her band in high school,
- 33:14Speaker 6: and I'll send you guys a song.
- 33:15Speaker 4: It's so beautiful. It's like sixties just like shit like that.
- 33:19Speaker 6: So I grew up around like that, like where music
- 33:22Speaker 6: was just played all the time, no matter what it was.
- 33:25Speaker 6: And I never played less music than when I came
- 33:27Speaker 6: here to the Nashville, you know, like I spent you know,
- 33:31Speaker 6: of course, that's part of it, you know, especially at
- 33:33Speaker 6: the beginning, is you know, taking the approach that I'm doing.
- 33:36Speaker 6: You know, there's a lot of ways to skin the
- 33:38Speaker 6: cat of music world. Like you can be you can
- 33:40Speaker 6: stand in a forest with an s M seven microphone
- 33:42Speaker 6: and seeing a bunch and be on the presidential debate
- 33:45Speaker 6: in two weeks or yeah, or I mean that's one
- 33:48Speaker 6: way to skin the cat. Or you can or you
- 33:50Speaker 6: can come here, you write the songs, and you network
- 33:53Speaker 6: with this town. That's what I love about this town
- 33:56Speaker 6: is there's a thousand people here that are absolutely phenomenal songwriters.
- 34:01Speaker 6: There's songs that will never be heard that you only
- 34:04Speaker 6: can hear just through being in this city. And that's
- 34:07Speaker 6: kind of my approach to, like, you know, of being
- 34:09Speaker 6: here is like just I get to wake up and
- 34:11Speaker 6: go write songs with these people that I'd never met,
- 34:14Speaker 6: and you know, it's like you I never looked people up.
- 34:17Speaker 6: But like now I'm to the point where, like I
- 34:19Speaker 6: walk out of there and it's like, oh, this guy
- 34:20Speaker 6: wrote live like you were dying.
- 34:21Speaker 2: You know.
- 34:25Speaker 6: It's like it's you just think about all those songs, man,
- 34:28Speaker 6: and that's just kind of like the little race you're
- 34:30Speaker 6: stretching for is trying to get one of those. But yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 6: playing playing shows has been awesome, man. It's it's it's
- 34:35Speaker 6: the it's the icing on the cake.
- 34:36Speaker 10: Man.
- 34:37Speaker 6: That's kind of what I want to do is hang
- 34:38Speaker 6: my hat on that, because longevity and music comes from
- 34:42Speaker 6: playing live shows. And right now the public view of
- 34:46Speaker 6: what success is in music is so skewed, you know,
- 34:49Speaker 6: and and you know, it's people that just have routine shows.
- 34:53Speaker 6: People that are playing and growing a fan base and
- 34:56Speaker 6: showing up for the fan base and delivering their songs.
- 34:58Speaker 6: You know, that's the ones that and overtime grow. And
- 35:01Speaker 6: that's the approach that I'm taking is we don't want
- 35:03Speaker 6: a gas fire man, we just want to we want
- 35:05Speaker 6: to be one percent better man, you know, And that's
- 35:07Speaker 6: what we're trying to do playing great show, Dude.
- 35:09Speaker 11: I feel like the dream show at some point has
- 35:12Speaker 11: to be you bring your mom and dad up.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Oh. Absolutely.
- 35:15Speaker 6: Also, I just put them on the record because so
- 35:18Speaker 6: I just recorded. Yeah, I just recorded five songs with
- 35:20Speaker 6: Warner and with Dave Cohen producing, and we went to
- 35:23Speaker 6: Blackbird Studio Studio d where one of the most legendary
- 35:27Speaker 6: places in music. And uh, you know, I had some
- 35:30Speaker 6: of the best players on there too, man. But I
- 35:32Speaker 6: just my parents are to have such a pure relationship
- 35:35Speaker 6: with music that they don't even care about anyone knowing
- 35:39Speaker 6: that they play music, right, And I just kind of
- 35:41Speaker 6: took that on myself to be like, you know what,
- 35:43Speaker 6: I care. So I got them to come down here,
- 35:46Speaker 6: and I got my mom to sing harmony background vocals
- 35:49Speaker 6: on one of my records. That way she can be
- 35:52Speaker 6: in this fancy official Warner Music database as a background singer,
- 35:55Speaker 6: because I mean, just giving back to the people that
- 35:58Speaker 6: taught me everything I knew about music. And we're gonna
- 36:00Speaker 6: get my dad down here to do some fiddle passes
- 36:02Speaker 6: on some stuff too. But but yeah, man, they're gonna
- 36:04Speaker 6: be up there eventually, probably way sooner than I should.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Honestly. I mean my mom saying with me that night
- 36:09Speaker 4: to act me.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that was cool with changing gears
- 36:14Speaker 1: of away.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Do you have a question of music, Yeah, yeah, go ahead.
- 36:17Speaker 12: You mentioned like working here in Nashville, and like obviously
- 36:21Speaker 12: everybody knows this is like the country music capital of whatever.
- 36:24Speaker 12: Like I I'm so curious, yeah, ladies, I'm so curious
- 36:31Speaker 12: to hear, so curious to hear, like because I follow
- 36:35Speaker 12: like these like a couple of people that are local
- 36:37Speaker 12: to hear that are just like on social media, that
- 36:38Speaker 12: have big social media filings, but you don't really see them,
- 36:41Speaker 12: Like how what that world is like as an up
- 36:44Speaker 12: and comer with other up and comers coming as well
- 36:46Speaker 12: as it like a doggy dog world? Are you like
- 36:48Speaker 12: I'm trying to like scratch your back, you scratch mine?
- 36:50Speaker 6: Kind Yeah, I think, And that's how good. And I
- 36:52Speaker 6: just learned through great influences that the people that last
- 36:56Speaker 6: in this business are good people. Like it's just like
- 36:58Speaker 6: that you get weeded out so quickly that the era
- 37:01Speaker 6: of hard to deal with rock star is over with
- 37:05Speaker 6: the over exposure of the internet, like it's it's all
- 37:07Speaker 6: about treating people right. And but no, there's no you know,
- 37:11Speaker 6: I think for people that are insecure in their artistry,
- 37:14Speaker 6: there's a lot of looking left and right and seeing
- 37:16Speaker 6: what's going on. But I don't really care what anyone
- 37:19Speaker 6: else does if they're success. If they're successful, I'm happy
- 37:22Speaker 6: for him. This is a hard world to be successful,
- 37:24Speaker 6: and there's there and also there is no finite pieces
- 37:27Speaker 6: of cake to be eaten. Everyone can get fed, like
- 37:29Speaker 6: it's it's just all about differentiating yourself and and I
- 37:32Speaker 6: love cheering people on man. Like a couple of my
- 37:35Speaker 6: close buddies, Dalton Davis and j Cass.
- 37:37Speaker 4: You know, we all met each other. They're the dogs.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Man and Dalton just signed a record deal too the
- 37:43Speaker 4: other day, and a big one.
- 37:44Speaker 3: Putting out some awesome stuff.
- 37:46Speaker 6: Yeah man, Yeah, shout out to Dalton and Jake cast.
- 37:50Speaker 6: He's one of the most He's from one of the
- 37:52Speaker 6: most iconic gospel families, has one of the most pure
- 37:54Speaker 6: voices and.
- 37:55Speaker 4: All souls soul.
- 37:57Speaker 6: His relationship with music is like, that's if you want
- 37:59Speaker 6: to know it's going to take an artist a long
- 38:01Speaker 6: way independent of me, is just figure out why they
- 38:04Speaker 6: like music, and that'll just tell you how long they're
- 38:06Speaker 6: going to be able to play music. A lot of
- 38:08Speaker 6: the problem is now is we used to make talented
- 38:11Speaker 6: people famous in music.
- 38:12Speaker 4: It would be it'd be a guy.
- 38:14Speaker 6: I mean from the back of the day, like a
- 38:15Speaker 6: guy come to the record label, knock on the door
- 38:17Speaker 6: and say, I got a bunch of tapes. You believe
- 38:20Speaker 6: in me, you know, come on, listen, listen to these
- 38:22Speaker 6: They're great. I got a vision and you know, flash forward,
- 38:25Speaker 6: and now we try to make famous people talented. We
- 38:28Speaker 6: try to get people that already have a pre existing
- 38:31Speaker 6: following for whatever reason, doesn't matter, and then we put
- 38:35Speaker 6: a square peg around a hole and put music into
- 38:38Speaker 6: these people's hands and then they fizzle out because their
- 38:41Speaker 6: relationship with music is not genuine, you know. And that's
- 38:44Speaker 6: but yeah, just to it's never comparison. I just like
- 38:47Speaker 6: cheering everybody on.
- 38:48Speaker 4: I think.
- 38:48Speaker 6: I think there's different ways to do it in this business,
- 38:51Speaker 6: and everyone can have success and then whatever way they
- 38:53Speaker 6: want you there's got.
- 38:54Speaker 3: To be more of that.
- 38:55Speaker 11: Yeah, in the music world before you. This isn't a question.
- 38:59Speaker 11: This is just the bust and fans out there because
- 39:01Speaker 11: we have a lot of the tier ones.
- 39:04Speaker 4: I wish I.
- 39:04Speaker 11: Would have said it off the top. Thomas is the
- 39:06Speaker 11: voice on the S and P five hundred. Wit is
- 39:11Speaker 11: so that that's how Thomas fits into the Bust and
- 39:13Speaker 11: lower outside of being Jack and Garrett's longtime friends.
- 39:16Speaker 4: But yeah, dude, it's that's crazy.
- 39:18Speaker 3: I forgot about that.
- 39:19Speaker 4: It was, dude. Yeah.
- 39:21Speaker 6: The funny thing is, dude, like it's I've been in
- 39:23Speaker 6: here over the years and every single it's just so
- 39:27Speaker 6: sick to see.
- 39:29Speaker 4: It's just so sick to see the phases of this place.
- 39:31Speaker 6: Dude, Like even when I was in here like a
- 39:32Speaker 6: month and a half ago, like none of this renovation
- 39:34Speaker 6: stuff was going.
- 39:35Speaker 11: Like, well, dude, I think it's cool. They you also
- 39:37Speaker 11: a friend group. It's like a couple of years ago.
- 39:40Speaker 11: I guess when when Josh Dobbs went down there. Obviously
- 39:43Speaker 11: Josh NFL quarterback, he's making vlogs down at your your
- 39:48Speaker 11: your show, your music career is taking off. Jack is
- 39:51Speaker 11: doing his thing in this world, Garrett's doing his thing
- 39:53Speaker 11: in this space, and it's like, but y'all all started,
- 39:56Speaker 11: you know, as the.
- 39:58Speaker 4: Kitchen saying we want to do something difference three am.
- 40:01Speaker 4: We're just drunk. We're just like, you know what, man,
- 40:03Speaker 4: I can't do this anymore.
- 40:04Speaker 8: And then Big Chevy's coming up next.
- 40:06Speaker 4: Yeah, it's right, dude.
- 40:07Speaker 6: We're like we're three am in the kitchen every weekend.
- 40:09Speaker 6: We're just like, you know what, we're quitting this week,
- 40:11Speaker 6: we're doing what we want. And then Tuesday rolls around
- 40:14Speaker 6: and just like back to the coal mine, back.
- 40:17Speaker 3: To the well.
- 40:18Speaker 5: Bring up Josh Dobbs.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Yeah, because Tom also has made an appearance on Busting
- 40:22Speaker 2: with the Boys. When Josh came on, Tom came to
- 40:24Speaker 2: the back and who else was it? Was a Josh, yeah, funny,
- 40:28Speaker 2: but just I want this one of my favorite stories
- 40:31Speaker 2: about your football career at Tennessee because you mentioned how
- 40:34Speaker 2: like you didn't play a ton, but there was a
- 40:37Speaker 2: there was a time when you got called.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Up to play versus Kentucky.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I like you to just walk all the viewers through
- 40:45Speaker 2: exactly what happened from start to finish.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Let's say it's Friday afternoon and go this story.
- 40:51Speaker 6: So the biggest thing about college football that you don't
- 40:53Speaker 6: realize is like the people that aren't the starters or
- 40:56Speaker 6: like the fringe guys before the night of the game.
- 40:59Speaker 6: You you just kind of meet the team on Saturday
- 41:02Speaker 6: at the game. So like it's one of the most
- 41:04Speaker 6: like like Walk of Shames ever. It's like the Vall
- 41:08Speaker 6: walk starts and you're just like walking like did you
- 41:11Speaker 6: like merge into.
- 41:12Speaker 4: The ball wall just hitting there. So yeah, it's like
- 41:16Speaker 4: so Friday night.
- 41:16Speaker 6: Before the Kentucky game, like I'm not traveling with the team,
- 41:19Speaker 6: and two years of my career I was a second
- 41:21Speaker 6: string like contributor.
- 41:23Speaker 4: You know.
- 41:23Speaker 6: I downplay that, like I was traveling away games like
- 41:25Speaker 6: if someone went hurt, was got her.
- 41:26Speaker 4: I went in.
- 41:28Speaker 6: But that didn't happen off and I often just rode
- 41:30Speaker 6: the bus and ate the steak and went home, you know.
- 41:33Speaker 6: And uh it was it was a home game. We
- 41:36Speaker 6: played Kentucky Man and I had my ex girlfriend at
- 41:38Speaker 6: the time. She had a sorority form all the night before,
- 41:41Speaker 6: and we got absolutely plowed drunk, like thrown out, thrown
- 41:46Speaker 6: out of the She fell down the stairs at this place.
- 41:49Speaker 1: She fell.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I did go she fell down the stuff.
- 41:57Speaker 6: But it was like it just like you know how
- 41:59Speaker 6: it did like the roorty like world is like so cutthroat.
- 42:02Speaker 6: They're like and they went to the council and they
- 42:04Speaker 6: were like, you have committed public intoxication.
- 42:07Speaker 4: You would be shamed, you know, I.
- 42:09Speaker 6: Thought they but like it was just like the talk
- 42:12Speaker 6: of the sorority too. Like so that's and I was,
- 42:14Speaker 6: you know, if I'm an athlete, I'm a little more surefooted.
- 42:17Speaker 6: I probably I probably would have fallen down the stairs.
- 42:19Speaker 6: I was that drunk too. And then I woke up.
- 42:21Speaker 6: You know, we're up all night, you know, got up,
- 42:23Speaker 6: gotta went to bed at four or five in the morning.
- 42:25Speaker 6: We're in college, you know, and with the game is
- 42:27Speaker 6: at like two or three pm. So we got to
- 42:29Speaker 6: be at the Vall Walk at like ten thirty. So
- 42:33Speaker 6: I'm wake up my house and I am so hungover, dude,
- 42:36Speaker 6: and I'm just like a in an absolute pit. Like
- 42:39Speaker 6: I my I have to wear a suit for the
- 42:41Speaker 6: Vall Walk. It's still crumbled up in a ball in
- 42:43Speaker 6: my travel bag just in the corner of my room.
- 42:46Speaker 6: I throw it on wrinkles and all get chastised for
- 42:48Speaker 6: it later, and then grab a can of coat and
- 42:52Speaker 6: two strawberry pop tarts out of my house and then
- 42:55Speaker 6: just go to the go park my car. Then just
- 42:58Speaker 6: merge into the Vall Walk, thinking that I was just
- 43:00Speaker 6: gonna not play the whole day, you know, just having
- 43:02Speaker 6: a good time in that like few hungover state where.
- 43:05Speaker 4: Everything is like funny. I'm like, this is hilarious, dude.
- 43:09Speaker 6: So then flashboard of the game, dude, Like I was
- 43:12Speaker 6: smoking those snacks in there, Dude, I was eating like
- 43:15Speaker 6: rice Crispy treats too, Like as soon as I got
- 43:17Speaker 6: to the thing, you know, it's just like it was
- 43:20Speaker 6: just it was not preparing myself. And that we start
- 43:24Speaker 6: beating the shit out of Kentucky and the second half
- 43:26Speaker 6: comes around and like the starters do one drive and
- 43:29Speaker 6: then out of nowhere, I hear coach Mahoney said, Domas Edwards,
- 43:34Speaker 6: where are you at? And I strap up and I
- 43:37Speaker 6: played the rest of the game. And do you know
- 43:40Speaker 6: who I was blocking? And you know what play? We
- 43:43Speaker 6: just love to run a counter And I was the
- 43:46Speaker 6: right guard and you guess who the opposite defensive end was,
- 43:49Speaker 6: Bud Dupree.
- 43:55Speaker 1: And they're playing piste.
- 43:57Speaker 4: They're down, dude.
- 43:58Speaker 6: And the funniest thing is my roommate now, one of
- 44:01Speaker 6: our best friends, Jack Jones, He was playing right tackle
- 44:04Speaker 6: and uh, Jack's job the whole time was due to
- 44:07Speaker 6: a ceiling hinge, which is where you just take one
- 44:09Speaker 6: step down and you just open your hips up ninety
- 44:11Speaker 6: degrees and make sure nobody comes. You know, it's one
- 44:13Speaker 6: of the best roles on the line when you get
- 44:15Speaker 6: that job. But he every time we encounter three plays
- 44:19Speaker 6: in a row, and I was I was dying. And
- 44:21Speaker 6: the every time I get back to the huddle, if
- 44:24Speaker 6: Jack just made it worse.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Dude.
- 44:25Speaker 6: He was just cracking up laughing at me because he
- 44:28Speaker 6: knew everything. He knew what I was doing. That was
- 44:30Speaker 6: the funniest thing. Guys, Like, I was like boasting to
- 44:32Speaker 6: my teammates. I was like, yeah, I went out drug,
- 44:35Speaker 6: wasn't I, you know, And it's just like, but honestly,
- 44:39Speaker 6: I played well. I remember, I remember. I remember, like
- 44:42Speaker 6: in the Monday team meeting, they had like the little
- 44:43Speaker 6: highlights of like plays of the game. And when it's
- 44:46Speaker 6: a game like that, the majority of the highlights are
- 44:48Speaker 6: just like backup highlights, morale boosters.
- 44:51Speaker 4: You're like, we love to see your effort here, you know.
- 44:53Speaker 4: I had one of those on the on that dud
- 44:56Speaker 4: Dupree is.
- 44:59Speaker 11: As like games going on and y'all are starting to
- 45:01Speaker 11: pull away. Is it registering it all in your head?
- 45:03Speaker 11: You might go in or you're just fully enjoying it.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Fully enjoy because at this point I have the shoulder
- 45:07Speaker 2: pads on, dude, this game.
- 45:10Speaker 4: Helmet on the pitch.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I was.
- 45:12Speaker 6: I was civilian level, stretched to go play, like hadn't
- 45:18Speaker 6: warmed up since I half ass did the warm up
- 45:20Speaker 6: at the beginning of the game an hour and a
- 45:22Speaker 6: half earlier, Like no little little leg kicks on the sideline.
- 45:26Speaker 6: I just ran in. And then there's so many times
- 45:29Speaker 6: like that. Another time we played Kentucky away and uh uh,
- 45:34Speaker 6: like we were winning again, and then we always beat Kentucky.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Uh the uh, little brother, the uh.
- 45:40Speaker 6: We're winning by a lot, and our line coach says,
- 45:43Speaker 6: all right, these are the next five linemen that are
- 45:45Speaker 6: going in. Names five people. I'm not one of them,
- 45:47Speaker 6: so I'm all right, sweet, but you know, perfect freak
- 45:50Speaker 6: Krogerfield's nice time. It's a nice time of year, you know,
- 45:53Speaker 6: to smash the football. You know, see if my buddies
- 45:55Speaker 6: can get it done, you know. So then they're they're
- 45:58Speaker 6: they're in the huddle, they're about to go out on
- 45:59Speaker 6: the field, and then all of a sudden, I hear
- 46:01Speaker 6: coach Jones going do headwords and just screaming, dude, it's
- 46:06Speaker 6: silent in there, Like people in the crowd are like,
- 46:08Speaker 6: what's going on with who is?
- 46:11Speaker 4: Like? You must be really needed at this game. And
- 46:14Speaker 4: he just looks at your grids by helmet and he goes,
- 46:16Speaker 4: do you even want to fucking play? Do you even
- 46:18Speaker 4: want to play?
- 46:20Speaker 6: Even after the line coach, deliberately five minutes prior to that,
- 46:23Speaker 6: was like, here are the five people that are going in.
- 46:25Speaker 6: But it's just so funny, man that It's there's never
- 46:28Speaker 6: like that when you go in when you're winning a
- 46:29Speaker 6: lot in the game. It's never You're never prepared to go,
- 46:32Speaker 6: even if you think you are, because you're standing around
- 46:35Speaker 6: just looking.
- 46:35Speaker 4: You know.
- 46:38Speaker 5: It's one of my favorite stories.
- 46:40Speaker 7: Just off a can of Coca Cola and two pop
- 46:42Speaker 7: tarts a couple.
- 46:45Speaker 6: Yeah, we're lifting the veil here on the back of
- 46:49Speaker 6: the bus.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Yeah dude, Well, I guess now we're talking to some
- 46:54Speaker 2: snacks unless you have another football question because I want to.
- 46:57Speaker 1: I want to start a new segment. We we did it.
- 46:59Speaker 2: We won't the guests because we have someone next week
- 47:02Speaker 2: as well. Now, but Tom is, I know you're a
- 47:06Speaker 2: sandwich connoisseur. Oh man, I would like you to describe
- 47:09Speaker 2: your perfect sandwich.
- 47:12Speaker 6: Let's just get a really two second moment of silence
- 47:15Speaker 6: for how great sandwiches are.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Take that hat off.
- 47:20Speaker 4: Also, thank you.
- 47:22Speaker 11: I did see your I did see your post. Yeah,
- 47:25Speaker 11: so feel free to talk about that.
- 47:27Speaker 6: Yeah, man, I think sandwiches, Man, I think they're the
- 47:29Speaker 6: most important part of American culture, really worldwide culture.
- 47:33Speaker 4: I think, you know.
- 47:33Speaker 6: I just I'm not well versed as some of the
- 47:35Speaker 6: worldwide sandwich impact. It's not an issue I'm willing to
- 47:39Speaker 6: lend my voice to, but here locally in America, I love.
- 47:43Speaker 4: A good sandwich.
- 47:44Speaker 13: Man.
- 47:44Speaker 6: I think they're they're situational though, Man, I think the
- 47:47Speaker 6: cool thing is though they're so interchangeable. Every element of
- 47:50Speaker 6: them can be replaced and removed. It's like a what's
- 47:53Speaker 6: it called. It's like a It's like a Lego set.
- 47:55Speaker 6: You know, that's the wrong analogy. I was looking for it.
- 47:57Speaker 6: But like, you know, you buy them Millennium foul and
- 48:00Speaker 6: Lego set, you can rearrange it and make it look
- 48:02Speaker 6: like something else.
- 48:02Speaker 4: That's what a sandwich is, you know, Like.
- 48:04Speaker 6: If you're like, there's different ways to eat sandwiches and
- 48:06Speaker 6: places to eat sandwiches.
- 48:07Speaker 4: I had.
- 48:08Speaker 6: I had a pub sub yesterday. I get one a week.
- 48:10Speaker 6: They usually get the special, but I mean, I just
- 48:13Speaker 6: think it's just a great especially like the the To me,
- 48:16Speaker 6: it's all about the experience. I love going to talk
- 48:18Speaker 6: to the person that's slicing open the bread. I get
- 48:21Speaker 6: to look at the meat selection and go, it looks
- 48:23Speaker 6: like you guys just cut that today.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Let's put that on there.
- 48:26Speaker 6: And then the cheat you know, all the way down
- 48:28Speaker 6: and in pub publics really gets that done for me,
- 48:30Speaker 6: you know, in the in the sandwich world. But I
- 48:33Speaker 6: just think there are unsung heroes.
- 48:34Speaker 4: Man.
- 48:34Speaker 6: I mean everything's a sandwich, the whole debate, like it's
- 48:37Speaker 6: it's just a deconstructed sandwich.
- 48:39Speaker 4: We I think.
- 48:42Speaker 6: They I don't like how people treat them as a
- 48:44Speaker 6: lunch item. I think that's slanderous for the value they provide.
- 48:49Speaker 6: But I mean there's I could talk forever about them.
- 48:52Speaker 6: I mean the the white bread sandwich on the beach,
- 48:55Speaker 6: you know.
- 48:55Speaker 4: The y'all y'all, the collective like we're hurt. Yeah, it's right.
- 49:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I know that that's a situational sandwich. But if
- 49:05Speaker 6: I'm in a if I'm in a bodega in New York,
- 49:07Speaker 6: like I'm getting a different sandwich there, man, Like there,
- 49:10Speaker 6: the sandwich is less about the food, and it's more
- 49:12Speaker 6: about glorifying the situation that you're in.
- 49:14Speaker 4: And it's like the movie Soul.
- 49:15Speaker 6: It's it's it's honestly, it's it's like a paper air plane.
- 49:25Speaker 4: It's an art form.
- 49:26Speaker 10: Man.
- 49:27Speaker 6: I love sandwiches, man, I'll talk forever about them. I
- 49:29Speaker 6: go to publics once a week. Last night I went
- 49:31Speaker 6: to publics and the I was my heart was ripped
- 49:34Speaker 6: out from underneath me because they made the special a
- 49:37Speaker 6: rap and the specials don't need to be a rap.
- 49:39Speaker 6: I mean like they're the fact that it's like advertises
- 49:42Speaker 6: five dollars to the options.
- 49:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean there used to be two specials.
- 49:47Speaker 6: But also they kind of go crazy with like they've
- 49:49Speaker 6: been doing like these cranberry turkey sandwiches at publics.
- 49:54Speaker 4: You're crazy, dude.
- 49:55Speaker 7: It's like stuffing and well.
- 49:59Speaker 6: Yeah, it's they do it a year round. It's crazy
- 50:02Speaker 6: as hell, dude. I love sandwiches, man, I think they
- 50:05Speaker 6: don't get enough love.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Can you name your favorite sandwich spot in Nashville and
- 50:09Speaker 2: or a few outside of Public's.
- 50:11Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I mean, like I said, man, I think
- 50:14Speaker 6: it's all I eat like a dog man, just all
- 50:17Speaker 6: for fuel and get pub chicken chickens in her pumps ups.
- 50:21Speaker 6: But I like, uh, you introduced me to the fat
- 50:23Speaker 6: belly pretzels.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Special Place vibes all time in there too. You can
- 50:27Speaker 2: have a situation. It's like when you go in there,
- 50:29Speaker 2: you're not just buying a sandwich. It's an experience and the.
- 50:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like it's incredible.
- 50:34Speaker 13: They ask your name and they're like, how you been doing?
- 50:38Speaker 4: Man, I'm like, how much time you got, dude?
- 50:41Speaker 6: I got so much shit to go off my chest,
- 50:42Speaker 6: you know, but they'll kick you out after a while.
- 50:49Speaker 6: Now I go in there like their Muffleoto, it's really good.
- 50:51Speaker 6: They also have a good uh. Also the Rachel Green
- 50:54Speaker 6: from Bills is great.
- 50:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:56Speaker 6: You know, we finally formalize the placing chips of onto
- 51:00Speaker 6: the sandwich as a menu item.
- 51:01Speaker 4: You know. I think that was a huge step for
- 51:03Speaker 4: us as people.
- 51:04Speaker 3: What about the little hats truffle in hand?
- 51:07Speaker 4: I haven't. I've never been to a little hat.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I could see little Hats being somewhere. Thomas just publicly slandered.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Oh.
- 51:15Speaker 6: I also have a huge problem with restaurants in Nashville
- 51:17Speaker 6: that open up two hundred person dining halls and have
- 51:21Speaker 6: six parking spots. Yeah, so I refused to go there.
- 51:25Speaker 6: I mean, like that's like part of the experience. We're
- 51:27Speaker 6: not in Manhattan. We open restaurants in here like it's
- 51:31Speaker 6: the Big Apple, you know, but like people are driving
- 51:34Speaker 6: to get there, you know, and if you take a
- 51:36Speaker 6: scooter you're gonna get hit by somebody too soon.
- 51:40Speaker 2: We were literally had a federal like a month ago,
- 51:43Speaker 2: and Tom drives there and he goes, there's no fucking parking.
- 51:46Speaker 1: I'm driving home. I did, f'm home, didn't didn't see him.
- 51:50Speaker 5: It is awesome. I did that same thing.
- 51:53Speaker 6: I'm about that dude, Like, I mean, like, what do
- 51:55Speaker 6: you what do you mean? There's no parking here? This
- 51:57Speaker 6: is I could have a hundred people, you know, there's marking,
- 52:01Speaker 6: just parking.
- 52:02Speaker 4: The the PA pay twenty dollars to.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Brook lives there. I parked there all the time and
- 52:07Speaker 3: don't have to see.
- 52:08Speaker 4: But like that's tribal knowledge. We shouldn't have to operate like.
- 52:13Speaker 3: That is fair.
- 52:15Speaker 5: What's your death row? Uh sandwich?
- 52:19Speaker 8: Like sandwich to save the world, you gotta make it.
- 52:21Speaker 4: Yes, Well, sandwiches aren't saving it.
- 52:23Speaker 7: If aliens came down and you had one sandwich to
- 52:27Speaker 7: say in the world quotgraphing.
- 52:29Speaker 2: What if they could do graph What if you can
- 52:31Speaker 2: give a sandwich to the fucking president of Iran right
- 52:34Speaker 2: now and it's stop things be a fucking season.
- 52:36Speaker 8: I wouldn't do that because sandwiches are made for that.
- 52:38Speaker 4: Jackar.
- 52:41Speaker 6: It's a bad Yeah, it's probably not what we need
- 52:44Speaker 6: to do here. Uh death row sandwich. I'm definitely gonna go.
- 52:49Speaker 6: I'm gonna get the ladies that work at the public's
- 52:51Speaker 6: in East Nashville. I love them so much. They're they
- 52:54Speaker 6: they take their job so seriously. They're they asked me
- 52:56Speaker 6: how I'm doing all the time. They they're heavy handed
- 52:59Speaker 6: on their poor ranch and mayonnaise and spicy mustard and
- 53:02Speaker 6: every casoning out the gourmet Dejiona's. I would get them
- 53:06Speaker 6: to prepare it, and I would ask them to bring
- 53:07Speaker 6: the little heater that they used there, because I swear
- 53:10Speaker 6: that one just.
- 53:11Speaker 4: Gets it right. And if the jail would allow.
- 53:13Speaker 6: These three lovely women to come in, I would go
- 53:17Speaker 6: with that public sandwich, just because not necessarily the sandwich,
- 53:20Speaker 6: it's just about the memories I had with those people
- 53:22Speaker 6: as they made it.
- 53:23Speaker 4: What it's irrelative three, I mean, I love it's kind
- 53:31Speaker 4: of like paper airplane.
- 53:34Speaker 6: The I I'll probably get a boars head Italian or
- 53:39Speaker 6: bars Haad ultimate sorry, because I like the rope. I
- 53:41Speaker 6: like the roast beef in there too. And then I'm
- 53:42Speaker 6: throwing chipotle Gouda cheese. If it's if it's freshly cut,
- 53:46Speaker 6: I can tell just about how it's how it looks. Yeah,
- 53:52Speaker 6: the hold one slice up for me, please. You got
- 53:55Speaker 6: to notice the bend. That's how long it's been cut.
- 53:57Speaker 6: If it's floppy, it's good.
- 53:59Speaker 4: Uh.
- 53:59Speaker 6: Then I'm going so I'm going ultimate chipoli gouda cheese,
- 54:03Speaker 6: and then I'm gonna get it toasted. Actually, mayonnaisees mayonnaise,
- 54:05Speaker 6: a spicy mustard comes first on the sandwich. I can
- 54:08Speaker 6: pre toast. I used to be a hater on that,
- 54:11Speaker 6: but it makes a difference. Then I throw it, throw
- 54:13Speaker 6: it in the toaster. Then I'll go and spinach, lettuce,
- 54:15Speaker 6: two tomato slices, garlic pickles, French onion straws, and a
- 54:19Speaker 6: little dash salt, pepper and oregano, and then some deli dressing.
- 54:23Speaker 4: But that's you know, that's if I had to pick.
- 54:28Speaker 8: It's not really about that for me.
- 54:30Speaker 9: Twist my arm, God, God forbid. After all this talk,
- 54:35Speaker 9: I feel like it would be essentil as a bonus
- 54:37Speaker 9: intern project if we had them go get the Thomas, yes,
- 54:42Speaker 9: or go with Thomas.
- 54:44Speaker 6: Yeah, it's right and it for sure, dude. And and
- 54:47Speaker 6: today it's Wednesday. They just can't I can't date the episode. Sorry,
- 54:50Speaker 6: bad form.
- 54:50Speaker 4: The Uh.
- 54:52Speaker 6: It's a day of the week and the specials reset today,
- 54:57Speaker 6: so we can we can go check we can we
- 54:59Speaker 6: can check up there, right of their wrongs about putting
- 55:01Speaker 6: a rap as this.
- 55:02Speaker 5: Where did they do?
- 55:03Speaker 12: Are you hellbent on going to the one in the
- 55:04Speaker 12: east or would you go to the one on eighth?
- 55:06Speaker 6: No, you gotta go to the one in the east,
- 55:08Speaker 6: Like I went to one in Brentwood, and there's just
- 55:09Speaker 6: high school kids working there and they don't give a
- 55:11Speaker 6: ship about you or your sandwich.
- 55:12Speaker 4: They're just they're just trying to get out of there.
- 55:13Speaker 5: And Thomas, I had a problem with driving places. It's
- 55:16Speaker 5: going to go across the street. Can just imagine a
- 55:19Speaker 5: sixteen year old? Have you hold up the gudda?
- 55:22Speaker 4: What that sucks? Bro? Yeah?
- 55:26Speaker 8: Was in the chat for this guy?
- 55:32Speaker 6: Yeah, trying to get you got on b chat.
- 55:41Speaker 7: Alright, we've gone for fifty five minutes so far. Do
- 55:45Speaker 7: we need to talk about the reason Thomas is here?
- 55:48Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 55:48Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Oh I'm here because I'm beginning the journey
- 55:51Speaker 6: of releasing music with my record deal and starting next month.
- 55:54Speaker 4: Man, let's go, thank you, thank you, thank you. We're
- 55:58Speaker 4: starting with a song called Drunkenough.
- 56:01Speaker 6: It's it's such a fun song, dude, It's I'm talking
- 56:04Speaker 6: half the song. It's I kind of it reminds me
- 56:06Speaker 6: of like a shell. Silverstein poem just like poorly written
- 56:09Speaker 6: because I wrote it, you know. But uh, you know,
- 56:12Speaker 6: I wanted to capture something that capture my personality.
- 56:14Speaker 4: Man.
- 56:15Speaker 6: I think I've written a lot of songs that are,
- 56:17Speaker 6: you know, good songs, but it's just like, once you
- 56:19Speaker 6: push the ship off the shore, you want to people
- 56:21Speaker 6: to know what they're getting into.
- 56:22Speaker 4: So I wanted to make sure that I had, you.
- 56:25Speaker 6: Know, some some things that highlight my voice and things
- 56:27Speaker 6: that highlight my personality and and just and welcome people
- 56:31Speaker 6: to the world of Thomas that releases music because it's
- 56:34Speaker 6: been you know, the two year, year and a half,
- 56:37Speaker 6: two years since I released something, and now it's you know,
- 56:40Speaker 6: the funny thing, I said this the other day, I
- 56:42Speaker 6: was like, I'm so, I'm the most excited I've ever
- 56:44Speaker 6: been to release music. And I said, uh, like, you know,
- 56:47Speaker 6: when we released the last things, I had no clue
- 56:49Speaker 6: what was going on. Now I still have no clue
- 56:51Speaker 6: what was going on. But I'm okay with it, you know, Like,
- 56:54Speaker 6: and I think that's that's the only thing that's going
- 56:56Speaker 6: to be And that's, uh, that's kind of true for everything. Man,
- 56:59Speaker 6: let it fly, throw the paper airplane, man. And I
- 57:01Speaker 6: think That's one of the regrets that I already have
- 57:03Speaker 6: in my life is I should have been letting them
- 57:05Speaker 6: fly earlier.
- 57:06Speaker 11: You know.
- 57:06Speaker 6: I made a much paper airplanes and sat them in
- 57:09Speaker 6: my closet, and I realized I did't even throw them because
- 57:11Speaker 6: I didn't even care that much, you know, And you
- 57:14Speaker 6: gotta throw them. And this is where I'm starting to
- 57:16Speaker 6: throw them. So the Drunk Enough is just a fun
- 57:18Speaker 6: song about Uh, it's really about a girl.
- 57:21Speaker 12: Man.

- 58:58Speaker 6: make the pretty patties.
- 58:59Speaker 4: You know what? I'm talking about. Mister Crabs is like,
- 59:01Speaker 4: what do you guys, what.
- 59:02Speaker 6: Are you guys doing with all the money, And he
- 59:04Speaker 6: goes like, well, at first we tried burying it, then

- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I was.
- 1:01:42Speaker 7: That's That's what I was getting at.
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: It could literally be fifteen second jingle.
- 1:01:49Speaker 11: Oh yeah, well, I mean that was one of the
- 1:01:51Speaker 11: best callbacks.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: Let do some some source. I gotta see what you
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: guys are about a little better. I mean, you're good.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: Your your your presence, Yeah, you are good.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: Welcome to the back of the books. I wrote this
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: song a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: It's uh, this is so awesome. This is gonna be
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: a good no this is gonna be an awesome clip
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: of us like this.
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: I wrote the song a couple of weeks ago by Buddy,
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: Bob Dapiro and Ryan Uh. A lot of people when
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: you get to a certain point of music, they just
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: try to ask you to change everything that got you there.
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: And that's what I'm saying about being different.
- 1:02:29Speaker 13: You know.
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: So we wrote a song about people trying to change me,
- 1:02:32Speaker 6: even though it's worked the ship that I've been doing.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: You know, I don't know if we have all the
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: mics here, that might not.
- 1:02:37Speaker 8: Sound like that.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean so we maybe even turned down all
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: the mics.
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: But let's just quiet, be quiet, damon home, h here
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: we go.
- 1:03:05Speaker 13: There ain't no changing me no more until I find
- 1:03:12Speaker 13: the change I was looking for. Don't matter what comes
- 1:03:18Speaker 13: through that door, there ain't no changing me no more.
- 1:03:28Speaker 13: I met a girl, thought that she was golden until
- 1:03:33Speaker 13: she told me to fold the hand dyes holding. Those
- 1:03:40Speaker 13: were the last words that were spoken to me. Why
- 1:03:45Speaker 13: should I fix what is not broken? Ain't no changing
- 1:03:52Speaker 13: me no more till I find the change I was
- 1:03:58Speaker 13: looking for. Don't matter what comes through that door, ain't
- 1:04:08Speaker 13: no changing me no more.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: A music guy told me to change and stuff about
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: me too. A big wig told me how I could see.
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: He said, first we gotta fix a couple things.
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: My hair and my beard. I dress too weird.
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: I need some.
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: Show biz clothes.
- 1:04:35Speaker 13: And I said, sorry, body, that's not how this story goes.
- 1:04:42Speaker 13: Ain't no changing me no more until I find the
- 1:04:48Speaker 13: change I was looking for. Don't matter what comes through
- 1:04:55Speaker 13: that door, cause there ain't no changing me, no move.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: That was really cool.
- 1:05:10Speaker 8: These mics are not autotude either.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: That was all real. It's all autotune. Everything is processed
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: and fake. It's all.
- 1:05:24Speaker 11: Edit.
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: When I start talking after.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: We were starting with our guests, they do our outro.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: So if you want to play a little little lick
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: and then be like, you know, sub to the channels,
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: sub to whatever.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Uh yeah, just let them fly.
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: Thanks for coming on back of the bus.
