- 0:00Speaker 1: Back to Marshamo on wor.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Well, we'll get to Johnny Carson later this hour. Hey
- 0:11Speaker 2: speaking which Stephen Colbert, believe it or not, I can
- 0:14Speaker 2: talk to believe it. You went from Johnny Carson to
- 0:16Speaker 2: Stephen Colbert, this angry, bitter little guy with this twisted up.
- 0:22Speaker 2: It's called the Late Show, should be called the Hate Show.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It's just this hate filled rant every night. They fired him.
- 0:28Speaker 2: He's gone. He's just working out the contract which has
- 0:32Speaker 2: got This is March April May, so it's about two
- 0:35Speaker 2: more months. But CBS is already erasing Stephen Colbert from
- 0:40Speaker 2: everything they can. If you go into the Big Broadcast
- 0:45Speaker 2: Center fifty seventh and eleventh, when you walk in there,
- 0:48Speaker 2: there's pictures of all the shows. As you come down
- 0:51Speaker 2: the hallway, the pictures of Colbert and the Late Show
- 0:54Speaker 2: have disappeared. They've been taken off the walls. One insider
- 0:58Speaker 2: saying it's like it's like existed at all. Every CBS
- 1:02Speaker 2: facility everywhere has taken down all the pictures of Colbert,
- 1:06Speaker 2: all the references to Colbert. The network now confirms that
- 1:10Speaker 2: when he goes off the air, there will be no sendoff,
- 1:15Speaker 2: no goodbye party, no anything. They've had it with this guy.
- 1:18Speaker 2: They want nothing to do with him. He's ruined late
- 1:22Speaker 2: night television, something completely destroyed it. He was really first
- 1:25Speaker 2: to go total hatred, and then Kimmel followed. Fallon sort
- 1:29Speaker 2: of followed. But Fallon's the one guy who could go
- 1:32Speaker 2: back to a regular entertainment show at night if he
- 1:34Speaker 2: wanted to. Kimmel is too far gone. He just became
- 1:38Speaker 2: this angry, bitter guy. Colbert was always a just a
- 1:41Speaker 2: hate filled, angry guy. So they can't wait to get
- 1:44Speaker 2: this thing off the air. The Late Show, The Stephen
- 1:47Speaker 2: Colbert Late Show. Now, remember it's in its final month
- 1:51Speaker 2: or two. You know, remember when Johnny Carson announced he
- 1:54Speaker 2: was retiring in May of ninety two. Why the last
- 1:57Speaker 2: few months, their ratings were through the roof. Everybody wanted
- 2:00Speaker 2: to watch his final shows, and all the biggest stars
- 2:03Speaker 2: in the world wanted to come on. It was quite
- 2:06Speaker 2: a ratings boost those final months. It's just the opposite
- 2:09Speaker 2: of the Colbert. He's going off pretty soon and his
- 2:11Speaker 2: final months are ratings disaster. In fact, the last month
- 2:15Speaker 2: was the worst ever, worst January ever. He had two
- 2:20Speaker 2: hundred and eighty five thousand viewers in the demo two
- 2:23Speaker 2: hundred and eighty five thousand in their demo. Now normally,
- 2:26Speaker 2: you know, in the Carson days, it was eight million,
- 2:29Speaker 2: nine million. Network says the final show can't come soon enough.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Now when they take him off the air, they're not
- 2:35Speaker 2: going to put on another talk show. It could be
- 2:38Speaker 2: a game show, or it could be reruns. You know,
- 2:41Speaker 2: when the Kimmel got pulled off the air for a week,
- 2:43Speaker 2: they just ran reruns of Password and it got triple
- 2:48Speaker 2: the ratings of Kimmel, So don't think CBS didn't notice it.
- 2:52Speaker 2: And to run the reruns of Password, it's free, it
- 2:54Speaker 2: doesn't cost anything. So expect Colbert to be replaced with
- 2:59Speaker 2: reruns a game show or CBS drama or something like that,
- 3:04Speaker 2: and it'll get double triple the ratings at Colbert and
- 3:08Speaker 2: cost nothing. What do they do with that big theater, Well,
- 3:11Speaker 2: they spent a lot of money on that theater through
- 3:13Speaker 2: the years, the Ed Sullivan Theater, and it's a really
- 3:14Speaker 2: good TV studio. So I would imagine CBS keeps it,
- 3:20Speaker 2: uses it to do game shows and that sort of
- 3:23Speaker 2: stuff out of there. Also, you can make a lot
- 3:24Speaker 2: of money renting out the theater as a TV studio.
- 3:27Speaker 2: In fact, before Letterman took it over. In between The
- 3:31Speaker 2: Ed Sullivan Show and Letterman taking it over, that's what
- 3:34Speaker 2: it was. You could rent that theater and millions of
- 3:37Speaker 2: shows were done out of there if you needed to
- 3:38Speaker 2: rent a studio. Hey, you know the show Access Hollywood
- 3:42Speaker 2: gone canceled. Even the top producers were totally unaware it
- 3:47Speaker 2: was going to get canceled. NBC Universal made the decision Friday.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Access Hollywood got a call after nearly thirty years, canceled.
- 3:56Speaker 2: That's it, no more Access Hollywood. Why. Ratings were good,
- 4:01Speaker 2: in fact, they were higher than Extra but TV viewership,
- 4:05Speaker 2: Network TV viewership is way way way down. A lot
- 4:10Speaker 2: less people watch network TV or local stations TV. That's
- 4:14Speaker 2: who runs all these Access Hollywood. All these local stations
- 4:17Speaker 2: run Access Hollywood and just doesn't pay to do them anymore.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Viewership is way way way down. So Access Hollywood is canceled. Hey,
- 4:27Speaker 2: we're talking about potholes before they're still there. This was
- 4:31Speaker 2: the worst season ever for potholes because of the Remember
- 4:34Speaker 2: the temperature would go from minus fifteen to seventy five
- 4:36Speaker 2: the next day. It's that quick temperature shifts that caused
- 4:39Speaker 2: the potholes. And also the salt and stuff they throw
- 4:43Speaker 2: all over the road. So it's worse than ever. And
- 4:45Speaker 2: apparently they don't have enough people to fix it. The
- 4:48Speaker 2: mayor and others said there'd be two weeks, will fix
- 4:51Speaker 2: all the potholes. It's not getting done. The union that's
- 4:54Speaker 2: in charge of all that says they don't have enough people.
- 4:57Speaker 2: They could use at least two hundred more highway workers
- 5:00Speaker 2: to get the job done, says the biggest crop of
- 5:03Speaker 2: potholes they've seen after this brutal winter. But the Momdannie
- 5:08Speaker 2: promised for two weeks, they say, he is not gonna happen.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Just not possible. Hey, so the Epstein files, there are
- 5:17Speaker 2: a lot of people.
- 5:18Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Sometimes you see these business people are Bill Gates or
- 5:21Speaker 2: Bill Clinton. You're not shocked. Yeah, that's who your picture
- 5:24Speaker 2: hanging out with Epstein. But deep pak Chopra his followers stunned,
- 5:33Speaker 2: stunned that he's in there.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Now.
- 5:34Speaker 2: There's some guys that end up in this Epstein file,
- 5:36Speaker 2: like Dick Cavett. You wouldn't expect him to be in there.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Woody Allen, but it's pretty innocent with these two. Woody Allen,
- 5:42Speaker 2: it was remember after the scandal. Woody Allen could not
- 5:46Speaker 2: get any financing to make movies. All the big studios
- 5:50Speaker 2: stopped financing his movies, so he couldn't get movies made
- 5:54Speaker 2: with the big studios or any of the Hollywood stuff.
- 5:56Speaker 2: So he had to go out and raise his own money.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And the way you're his money, he is you find
- 6:01Speaker 2: wealthy guys, starstruck, wealthy guys who want to pretend to
- 6:04Speaker 2: be a movie producer or hang around show business, and
- 6:08Speaker 2: they'll finance your movies. And there's a lot of them,
- 6:12Speaker 2: a lot of them, not just what he elan. A
- 6:14Speaker 2: lot of Scorsese's done that with a few films. You
- 6:17Speaker 2: just go find some rich guys to give you the money.
- 6:18Speaker 2: You don't have to deal with the Hollywood studio. And
- 6:21Speaker 2: these rich guys are just as starstruck as anybody. So
- 6:24Speaker 2: that's what Woody Allen was doing, getting Epstein to finance movies.
- 6:29Speaker 2: In exchange, Woody Allen had to come to his house
- 6:32Speaker 2: for a lot of dinners, a lot of luncheons, and
- 6:35Speaker 2: Epstein would invite all of his friends and you could
- 6:37Speaker 2: sit there and have lunch with Woody Allen, dinner with
- 6:39Speaker 2: Woody Allen. It's annoying, but he was willing to do
- 6:42Speaker 2: it to get the financing. Woody Allen's close friend Dick
- 6:45Speaker 2: Cabott got dragged into this. Why was Cavot doing it? Well,
- 6:49Speaker 2: if you read the files, it looks like Cabot wanted
- 6:52Speaker 2: a rich guy to finance a PBS special he was
- 6:55Speaker 2: trying to put together. Epstein did do that, So that's
- 6:58Speaker 2: what up. Now, that's innocent d Pak Chopra, the guru
- 7:04Speaker 2: who everybody idolized. This guru, this is different. You can
- 7:10Speaker 2: read all the emails. You can go to the Epstein files.
- 7:12Speaker 2: His behavior was pretty slimy there. He was all over Epstein.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Here's one devoted follower of his on Facebook says, I
- 7:24Speaker 2: just looked at the Chopra emails with Epstein and I
- 7:27Speaker 2: am about to drown in my own vomit. He wants
- 7:33Speaker 2: to go away with Epstein on trips, and in the
- 7:35Speaker 2: invitation he says bring your girls. On at least two occasions,
- 7:40Speaker 2: Chopra invited Epstein to join him on trips to Israel
- 7:43Speaker 2: in Switzerland, specifically telling him to bring your girls. In
- 7:48Speaker 2: the Israel invitation, Chopra also suggested Epstein use a fake
- 7:53Speaker 2: name if he wished Chopra. Another one wrote God is
- 7:59Speaker 2: a construct. Cute girls are real. Yeah, a lot of
- 8:03Speaker 2: stuff with women and Deepak Chopra. And then apparently Chopra
- 8:09Speaker 2: was quite the ladies man. In one email, Epstein's texting him,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I liked watching you zero in on your prey made
- 8:19Speaker 2: me smile. The word predator is used. And then there's
- 8:24Speaker 2: another one from Chopra requests for cute girls. He asked
- 8:29Speaker 2: if he had found him acute Israeli while he's over there.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Epstein offered to send two girls to a meditation events
- 8:37Speaker 2: Chopra was hosting, which Chopra accepted, requesting their names for
- 8:43Speaker 2: the guest list. Now what does Chopra say about all this? Well,
- 8:47Speaker 2: he issued a statement on x denying any criminal or
- 8:50Speaker 2: exploiti of contact. He acknowledged that some past email exchanges
- 8:55Speaker 2: reflected poor judgment in tone, expressed regret for how they
- 9:01Speaker 2: might be interpreted. The reports specified that it's unclear how
- 9:07Speaker 2: old the girls were in the message as well how
- 9:09Speaker 2: it might be interpreted. I don't know if when you're
- 9:13Speaker 2: writing Epstein and you say bring your girls, how's it
- 9:16Speaker 2: going to get interpreted? Hey, there was a noted publicist
- 9:21Speaker 2: Peggy Siegel. I think she's kind of retired now. Peggy's
- 9:24Speaker 2: Siegel for throughout the eighties and nineties was the big
- 9:27Speaker 2: publicist for the movie studios through the big, big, big,
- 9:31Speaker 2: big movie premiere parties here in New York. Was the
- 9:35Speaker 2: nastiest person ever, nasty personality. Everybody behind her back, always bad, mouter,
- 9:42Speaker 2: like crazy. But she was quite the publicist. If it
- 9:45Speaker 2: was a big event with big, big names, major business names,
- 9:48Speaker 2: society names, that's who you hired to put together the party. Well,
- 9:52Speaker 2: nobody was more involved with Epstein than Peggy Siegel. Nobody.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It was site of a five thousand email turned up
- 10:01Speaker 2: just in one year, Oh no, ten years, five thousand
- 10:04Speaker 2: emails in ten years. And why would she do this
- 10:08Speaker 2: for Epstein? Well money, he had what's known as check's appeal.
- 10:12Speaker 2: He would write massive checks. For instance, on her birthday party,
- 10:17Speaker 2: he sent her one hundred thousand dollars as a gift,
- 10:19Speaker 2: that kind of stuff. And every time he wanted her
- 10:22Speaker 2: to put together a party, put together a dinner party
- 10:26Speaker 2: for my birthday, invite all the biggest names in New York.
- 10:32Speaker 2: He sent thirty thousand dollars for the party they wanted.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Elton John, so fifteen thousand was donated to Elton John's charity.
- 10:41Speaker 2: A lot of money was spent. Now she lost I
- 10:44Speaker 2: think a lot of the movie studios once it all
- 10:45Speaker 2: came out about Epstein. And she's really the one that
- 10:50Speaker 2: got him a lot of big names in New York.
- 10:52Speaker 2: But she's getting a lot of flak for this now.
- 10:55Speaker 2: She's the one that when he got Prince Andrew at
- 11:00Speaker 2: his house. She's the one that threw the dinner party
- 11:02Speaker 2: for Prince Andrew and she got George Stefanopolis to come,
- 11:05Speaker 2: and Katie Kuric to come and Stephanoppolis later got a
- 11:10Speaker 2: lot of flak for having dinner at Epstein's house, and
- 11:14Speaker 2: he put out some stupid statement about, well, maybe I
- 11:17Speaker 2: should have done my due diligence. Well, he's supposed to
- 11:21Speaker 2: be some sort of a news guy, and it was
- 11:23Speaker 2: in every news outlet in the world that he was
- 11:26Speaker 2: convicted of being a pedophile in prison, So it wasn't
- 11:30Speaker 2: that hard to do the due diligence. But anyway, we'll
- 11:33Speaker 2: do that. Throughout the week, we'll bring you more of
- 11:35Speaker 2: these shocking names that are in the Epstein files. Hey, Cuba, Cuba,
- 11:42Speaker 2: the communist government of Cuba could fall at any moment.
- 11:45Speaker 2: There were riots in the street this weekend. Rioters attacking
- 11:48Speaker 2: a Communist party building, entering it, throwing everything out the windows.
- 11:54Speaker 2: This is building. It's possible that Iran is liberated. It's
- 11:59Speaker 2: possible bull Iran gets a new government, is no longer
- 12:02Speaker 2: a brutal terrorist dictatorship. And it's possible in the months
- 12:06Speaker 2: ahead Cuba gets rid of communism, goes capitalist. Trump would absolutely,
- 12:13Speaker 2: without question, deserve a Nobel Prize for all of this
- 12:16Speaker 2: because he's been working on this behind the scenes. And
- 12:19Speaker 2: you know, Cuba is a beautiful Caribbean island. It's in
- 12:22Speaker 2: total poverty and decay for decades under communism. If you
- 12:26Speaker 2: liberated it, it would look like Miami. In fact, before
- 12:30Speaker 2: the communists took over, it looked like Miami. It had
- 12:33Speaker 2: all the same hotels. Same guy that built the Fountain
- 12:36Speaker 2: Blue had a hotel in Cuba. The same guy that
- 12:39Speaker 2: built the Eden Rock had a hotel in Cuba that
- 12:41Speaker 2: was magnificent. Hotels, the most beautiful beaches, gambling casinos, nightclubs.
- 12:47Speaker 2: It could go back to that. It could make a fortune.
- 12:50Speaker 2: So look for that to happen. You know, if they
- 12:54Speaker 2: need somebody to take over and run Iran. Who would
- 12:57Speaker 2: do it well? The Sun of the Shaw. He's been
- 13:00Speaker 2: in this country for forty seven years, Reza pan La Pavlav,
- 13:06Speaker 2: and he's been pushing for decades to be the guy
- 13:08Speaker 2: to go back and take over. And he's been leading,
- 13:12Speaker 2: you know, all kinds of events and discussions and about
- 13:15Speaker 2: going back and taking over. I don't know if the
- 13:18Speaker 2: White House has any real confidence in him. Nothing wrong
- 13:21Speaker 2: with him, He's just he hasn't been there in forty
- 13:23Speaker 2: seven years, and it's hard to imagine you could go
- 13:27Speaker 2: back forty seven years later and know what the hell's
- 13:30Speaker 2: going on or know anybody there. But he could play
- 13:33Speaker 2: some sort of role in this, he probably would not
- 13:36Speaker 2: be the new leader. And there's a tremendous amount of
- 13:39Speaker 2: Persians here in the United States and the Persian community.
- 13:42Speaker 2: You see them all over in New Jersey, Long Island,
- 13:44Speaker 2: Sands Point, Great Neck, very very very successful business people,
- 13:50Speaker 2: very very smart people. So it's a huge diaspora of
- 13:54Speaker 2: the Persian community. Huge and they've been talking, meeting, gathering
- 13:59Speaker 2: over the last few weeks figuring out what they can do.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And these are smart, wealthy guys. They can do plenty
- 14:04Speaker 2: to help support a new government in Iran, so it
- 14:08Speaker 2: could happen soon. You know, we've been trying to take
- 14:10Speaker 2: out the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the Revolutionary Guard, the Republican Guard,
- 14:18Speaker 2: and they're the vicious ones. They're the really ugly, vicious,
- 14:21Speaker 2: brutal terrorist ones have been shooting protesters and all that.
- 14:25Speaker 2: But there's the regular Army. We're trying very hard not
- 14:28Speaker 2: to hit them. The Islamic Republican Iran Army. We've been
- 14:33Speaker 2: leaving them alone because they'll be needed if Iran gets free,
- 14:38Speaker 2: they'll be there. They'll be the new army. We'll get
- 14:41Speaker 2: rid of the Republican Guard, the regular army will take over.
- 14:44Speaker 2: This could get pretty interesting in the next few months.
- 14:47Speaker 2: We'll get to Johnny Carson coming up in a few minutes.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Interesting stuff that you never knew about them. We'll take
- 14:52Speaker 2: some calls next eight hundred three to two to one
- 14:55Speaker 2: zero seven ten is the number. Eight hundred three to
- 14:58Speaker 2: two to one zero.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Always this step ahead of the news. Here's more marks
- 15:04Speaker 1: imone on seven to ten. Woor Hey, let's.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Take some calls. Let's go to Bonnie and Toms River. Bonnie,
- 15:12Speaker 2: how you doing, hi?
- 15:14Speaker 4: Mark I was just wondering this guy they put in
- 15:19Speaker 4: charge of Iran the Sun. Yes, he's pretty banged up.
- 15:26Speaker 4: I mean he's performed and he's in a coma. Is
- 15:29Speaker 4: it sort of like the Weekend with Bernie thing where
- 15:32Speaker 4: they prop them up and he waves Yeah.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he's kind of the Joe Biden of Iraq. Now yeah,
- 15:40Speaker 2: they actually think he well, some think he's dead. There's
- 15:43Speaker 2: no confirmation that he's actually alive. It's been reported he
- 15:46Speaker 2: lost a leg in the bombing, facial lacerations, he was
- 15:49Speaker 2: in a coma.
- 15:50Speaker 4: And some of them I heard last night, they think
- 15:52Speaker 4: he's gay.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he's gay, which is pretty funny because in Iran
- 15:56Speaker 2: that's illegal and they'll hang you if you're gay. So
- 16:01Speaker 2: so it was always said that the Iotola himself never
- 16:05Speaker 2: wanted his son to take over, and they said the
- 16:07Speaker 2: reason was they didn't want to get into this family
- 16:10Speaker 2: dynasty because that's what they had with the Shaw. But
- 16:13Speaker 2: could also be that he knew his son was gay
- 16:15Speaker 2: and that doesn't fit with what the Iranian government believes.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Let's go to Phil in Northport. Phil, how you doing?
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yes?
- 16:23Speaker 5: Hello, Hello, Mark, And just kudos to whose cadets put
- 16:28Speaker 5: it into that miserable human being that killed the lieutenant
- 16:33Speaker 5: colonel in Arlington, Arlington, Virginia. And why didn't the governor
- 16:38Speaker 5: of Arlington, Virginia make one word about this?
- 16:41Speaker 2: You mean the governor of Virginia be all right, well, anyway,
- 16:46Speaker 2: she's a left wing cook. She's not going to say
- 16:48Speaker 2: a word about it. But you've had the worst coverage
- 16:50Speaker 2: of everything we're talking about this last hour with Michael Goodwin,
- 16:54Speaker 2: just absolutely. For instance, the Michigan shooter, the guy who
- 16:59Speaker 2: tried to run over the I mean this awful terrorist,
- 17:01Speaker 2: and the New York Times and others put out this
- 17:04Speaker 2: narrative that he was so driven, so crazy because his
- 17:09Speaker 2: brother had been killed and an Israeli airstrike, his brother
- 17:13Speaker 2: in Lebanon was killed and in his early airstrike it
- 17:17Speaker 2: was very you know, to get sympathy from this is
- 17:19Speaker 2: what the New York Times and others wrote. Well, it
- 17:22Speaker 2: turns out it was true. The reason he was killed
- 17:24Speaker 2: he was a Hesbala terrorist. They forgot to mention that
- 17:26Speaker 2: in the article. They deliberately didn't mention it in the article.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You've had this kind of stuff going on. That's why
- 17:31Speaker 2: the FCC chair is warning these media outlets They also
- 17:34Speaker 2: reported the story about we lost six ships, six ships
- 17:38Speaker 2: were sunk in or rent. None of this was true,
- 17:41Speaker 2: completely false, but major news outlets all ran this story.
- 17:45Speaker 2: That's why they're talking about FCC crackdown. Let's go to
- 17:49Speaker 2: Vincent and Brooklyn. Vincent, how you doing?
- 17:51Speaker 3: Good morning, Mark, I'm okay, Good morning, Mara. Mark Abba
- 17:55Speaker 3: girl spamburger to governor Virginia pulled the bait and switch.
- 18:00Speaker 3: She ran as a moderate, and now she wants to
- 18:02Speaker 3: tax anything walking, even cockerroaches and water bugs. Mark, I'm
- 18:08Speaker 3: sure you heard about Mandami's latest boneheaded plan. He wants
- 18:14Speaker 3: the state to low the inheritance tax threshold from seven
- 18:20Speaker 3: million dollars to seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars, and
- 18:25Speaker 3: he wants an inheritance tax rate of fifty percent.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Now, if you have inheritance, the first seven million is
- 18:34Speaker 2: not taxed, he wants to make that the first seven
- 18:36Speaker 2: hundred thousand, which, now, explain this to me, though, federal
- 18:41Speaker 2: inheritance tax about fifty percent, isn't it?
- 18:44Speaker 3: No? Actually, and you got to make you got to
- 18:47Speaker 3: really be inherit a lot of a lot, a lot
- 18:51Speaker 3: of buddy, No, it's not not that. What there is
- 18:54Speaker 3: tax on like if somebody in New York and that's upfront.
- 18:58Speaker 3: If let's say your mom leaves a bank account in
- 19:02Speaker 3: trust for you, if it's over thirty thousand dollars, they
- 19:06Speaker 3: put and this was years ago, I don't even know
- 19:08Speaker 3: what it is now, they put a lock on that
- 19:10Speaker 3: accountant to you paid a tax up front, and you
- 19:14Speaker 3: get a clearance, a statement of clearance from the state
- 19:19Speaker 3: tax Department, and you present it to the bank and
- 19:22Speaker 3: they'll free up your money. I heard an economist over
- 19:25Speaker 3: this week and talking about real estate in New York.
- 19:29Speaker 3: And this person knows about economics but does not know
- 19:33Speaker 3: about real estate. He was saying that you could buy
- 19:37Speaker 3: the average house in New York City, you could buy
- 19:41Speaker 3: one for seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars. No way,
- 19:44Speaker 3: you can't even even in Brooklyn. The average co op
- 19:48Speaker 3: let alone of Manhattan goes for at least a million dollars.
- 19:53Speaker 3: I was offered the beginning of last week for one
- 19:57Speaker 3: of my properties. I was offered a great up deal.
- 20:00Speaker 3: We would have went to the lawyer's office and closed
- 20:03Speaker 3: five million dollars for one of mine. Dollars.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Very good. Now, listen the argument against the inheritance tax
- 20:10Speaker 2: is this is money that people have earned, and they've
- 20:12Speaker 2: already rational wealth. They've already paid tax on it when
- 20:16Speaker 2: they earned it. They paid the taxt and so you're
- 20:17Speaker 2: taxing the money that's already been taxed, which is and.
- 20:20Speaker 3: They paid tax on it when they invested in the dividends,
- 20:24Speaker 3: the interest, They paid tax on it when they put
- 20:27Speaker 3: it in the bank and everything. And so it's robbery
- 20:31Speaker 3: and that's this is how you create generational wealth. And
- 20:35Speaker 3: Mondami and these communists they don't want that. They want
- 20:39Speaker 3: everybody to be in the poorhouse. Now they're the only
- 20:42Speaker 3: ones conducted to eat steak and lobster. And they complain
- 20:46Speaker 3: about our military men and women who were fighting for
- 20:49Speaker 3: us having the stakehold lobster. Didn't want it, they added
- 20:52Speaker 3: their mind.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yes, as a matter of fact, Vincent, great call, thanks
- 20:56Speaker 2: for calling. That's another example of fake news. They printed
- 20:59Speaker 2: the story if Hegsath had ordered millions of dollars of
- 21:03Speaker 2: staking lobster for himself, it was for the troops. They
- 21:05Speaker 2: also failed to mention this has done a lot. When
- 21:08Speaker 2: troops are about to go into combat, you spend a
- 21:10Speaker 2: lot of money and give them one incredible meal before
- 21:12Speaker 2: they go off to off to war. Hey when we
- 21:15Speaker 2: come back. The Johnny Carson Expert of the World he
- 21:18Speaker 2: wrote it just came out, the greatest book about Johnny Carson.
- 21:22Speaker 2: But there's a dark side to Carson you may not
- 21:24Speaker 2: have known about. We'll get to that next on seven
- 21:27Speaker 2: to ten. Wor give WR a bre said on the
- 21:32Speaker 2: iHeartRadio app to hear Mark Simone and all the WR
- 21:36Speaker 2: hosts in an instance.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Now back to the Mark Simon Show on WOOR.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Well, you know there's been a lot of books about
- 21:44Speaker 2: Johnny Carson, but nothing like this. The definitive Ultimate Johnny
- 21:48Speaker 2: Carson book came out last year. I urge you to
- 21:51Speaker 2: get it. It's the greatest book ever on Carson. It's
- 21:54Speaker 2: uncovered everything you could ever know about him. It's called
- 21:57Speaker 2: Love Johnny Carson. It's by Mark mall cough. He also
- 22:01Speaker 2: does the Carson Podcast. There's about four hundred episodes you
- 22:04Speaker 2: can listen to with anybody and everybody that was ever
- 22:07Speaker 2: involved with the Tonight Show. But get the book Love
- 22:10Speaker 2: Johnny Carson by Mark Malcoff. You won't be able to
- 22:13Speaker 2: put it down. And he's with us now, Mark Malkoff,
- 22:15Speaker 2: how you doing.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Mark I'm doing great. Nice to talk to you again.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Hey. The Oscars last night made me think of Carson.
- 22:23Speaker 2: He has been how many years was the Oscar host?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Many years?
- 22:27Speaker 6: It was four or five years. He was the only
- 22:29Speaker 6: Oscar host in the history. No teleprompter, no Q cards.
- 22:33Speaker 6: He memorized everything. The opening monologue, he would edit the
- 22:37Speaker 6: jokes in his head depending on how he did with
- 22:39Speaker 6: the crowd with each joke. I mean that guy was
- 22:41Speaker 6: on a different level as a host, probably the greatest
- 22:44Speaker 6: Oscar host of all time.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah, he did that with the Tonight Show. You know,
- 22:47Speaker 2: got like Jay Leno had to work on the monologue
- 22:49Speaker 2: to get the jokes in just the right order. But Carson,
- 22:52Speaker 2: You're right, on the Tonight Show would just jumble up jokes,
- 22:55Speaker 2: move them around, switch whatever he had to do. And
- 22:59Speaker 2: I think the only was to ever to do that right.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Everyone else had the cue cards.
- 23:02Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it was at Johnny was effortless. I
- 23:05Speaker 6: mean he had a phote, he took a photograph, a
- 23:08Speaker 6: memory class, and he could learn. He learned Russian, he
- 23:11Speaker 6: learned Swahili, he took Spanish classes and between shows in
- 23:14Speaker 6: Las Vegas. I mean, the guy was unbelievable. In terms
- 23:18Speaker 6: of his intellect.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yeah, now you should get the book Love Johnny Carson,
- 23:22Speaker 2: and the book is wonderful. You're gonna love Johnny Carson
- 23:25Speaker 2: even more when you read it. But we've had you
- 23:27Speaker 2: on a numbers. We never talked about the bad stuff.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I thought we'd just well during the New York years,
- 23:32Speaker 2: he was a big drinker and apparently a lot of
- 23:35Speaker 2: affairs cheating, not just him but the wife too.
- 23:38Speaker 6: Correct, that's true. I mean Johnny would talk on the
- 23:42Speaker 6: Tonight Show about how he struggled with drinking. It was
- 23:45Speaker 6: one of those things in New York where he was
- 23:47Speaker 6: so famous. He would go into a restaurant or a
- 23:49Speaker 6: bar and people would constantly be sending over drinks, and
- 23:52Speaker 6: he tried to be polite, take a sip, and he
- 23:53Speaker 6: was a lightweight, so after a few drinks, as Carson acknowledged,
- 23:57Speaker 6: he would turn into a tilla the hunt and in
- 23:59Speaker 6: the spring of nineteen seventy one, Johnny was at Jilli's
- 24:03Speaker 6: on fifty second straight world famous Jilly's Sinatra territory. He
- 24:06Speaker 6: was with Ed McMahon and Ed's manager Robert Coe, and
- 24:11Speaker 6: Carson had way too much to drink and mobster Joey
- 24:14Speaker 6: Gallo had just gotten out of prison after serving a decade,
- 24:17Speaker 6: who was locked away, just got out. As at Jilli's,
- 24:20Speaker 6: Gallo is with his girlfriend, goes to the bathroom. Gallo
- 24:23Speaker 6: does and Johnny unfortunately didn't remember this because he was drunk,
- 24:27Speaker 6: but he did something highly inappropriate to Gallow's girlfriend. Jilly.
- 24:30Speaker 6: Rizzo told ed, get Carson the blank out of here,
- 24:34Speaker 6: which he did, and then Gallo came back and discovered
- 24:36Speaker 6: what Carson did, and he put a hit on Johnny's life.
- 24:40Speaker 6: And two things happened. One, Carson wisely got his good
- 24:43Speaker 6: friend Frank Sinatra to intervene. Sinatra knew Gallo, he knew
- 24:47Speaker 6: some of the mafia figures. So Sinatra sat down with
- 24:50Speaker 6: Gallow they need a favor, and he said, anything, I
- 24:53Speaker 6: need you to leave Johnny Carson alone. And Gallo got
- 24:56Speaker 6: really upset, but he said, you tell Carson the only
- 24:59Speaker 6: reason he lives and breathes is because he knows Frank Sinatra.
- 25:03Speaker 6: And then the second thing is NBC. Carson was twenty
- 25:06Speaker 6: five percent of NBC's profits at one point, and to
- 25:09Speaker 6: appease the acting mafia don in New York City, Joe
- 25:11Speaker 6: Colombo NBC News they aired a positive story in nineteen
- 25:16Speaker 6: seventy one on Joe Colombo and his Italian American Civil
- 25:20Speaker 6: Rights League for no reason. I mean I watched it
- 25:23Speaker 6: with my own eye.
- 25:24Speaker 2: And you don't mean they ran a piece during the news.
- 25:27Speaker 2: I mean they created a primetime special for this.
- 25:29Speaker 6: Right they did it was it was prime time because
- 25:32Speaker 6: they would have higher ratings. They were really worried about
- 25:36Speaker 6: this and it aired in primetime and I look at
- 25:39Speaker 6: that and I was like, it was just why would
- 25:41Speaker 6: they do this? And they just you know, Carson was
- 25:44Speaker 6: their cash cow. I mean he was the most important
- 25:46Speaker 6: person to the network and then Bob Hope. So they
- 25:48Speaker 6: did that and that was how Johnny was able to
- 25:52Speaker 6: keep his life. I mean he would go to the
- 25:54Speaker 6: Copa cabana and Jerry Vale was opening up the Copa
- 25:58Speaker 6: and Carson again drinks and he was gone, and it
- 26:01Speaker 6: was it was he ruined Jerry Vale's entire premiere and
- 26:06Speaker 6: Carson Jerry Vales had Carson apologized for decades the show, right, Yeah,
- 26:12Speaker 6: you just did not want to be around Johnny. But
- 26:14Speaker 6: he would talk about it on the Tonight Show. We
- 26:16Speaker 6: talked about it with Mike Wallace. It was a struggle
- 26:18Speaker 6: of his. Really didn't get a hold of it until
- 26:21Speaker 6: nineteen eighty two after he got unfortunately arrested for drinking
- 26:24Speaker 6: and driving, and three months prior on the Tonight Show
- 26:27Speaker 6: he's warning people you do not want to drink and
- 26:28Speaker 6: drive during the holidays. And then three months later, of course, Johnny,
- 26:32Speaker 6: but it was a struggle of his and then obviously
- 26:35Speaker 6: the marriage is married. Four times he would talk about
- 26:37Speaker 6: the struggles, but yeah, unfortunately in nineteen this has also
- 26:41Speaker 6: happened in nineteen seventy one, Johnny. This was wife number two,
- 26:45Speaker 6: Joe Anne, who was the one that really convinced Johnny
- 26:48Speaker 6: to take the Tonight Show because Johnny and everybody said,
- 26:52Speaker 6: don't you don't want to take over for Jack part,
- 26:54Speaker 6: No one's going to succeed. So she unfortunately had caught
- 26:57Speaker 6: Carson in some compromising situations with women. She wanted to
- 27:00Speaker 6: make Carson jealous, so she was going on the weekends
- 27:03Speaker 6: to race car, drive races, race car She loved race
- 27:06Speaker 6: car driving. She started having an affair with Peter Revson,
- 27:09Speaker 6: a race car driver, a playboy race car driver, who's
- 27:12Speaker 6: the heir to the Revlon throne. That's what the media said.
- 27:15Speaker 6: Carson found out he had a she had a secret apartment,
- 27:19Speaker 6: and he had a private investigator who you were actually
- 27:21Speaker 6: friends with. Carson was crying when he found out that
- 27:26Speaker 6: joe Anne was cheating on him and changed the locks
- 27:28Speaker 6: on their apartment and it was over. And it was
- 27:31Speaker 6: a really, really sad thing. But you know, Carson just
- 27:35Speaker 6: I mean temptation with the ladies. He couldn't turn it down.
- 27:38Speaker 6: He didn't turn them down very often.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Yeah. So so he's cheating with other women and she's
- 27:44Speaker 2: going away every weekend to go watch race races. But
- 27:48Speaker 2: is that smart that your husband's a cheater and you
- 27:50Speaker 2: leave them alone on the weekends.
- 27:51Speaker 6: That I don't know about that. It was one of
- 27:54Speaker 6: those things where Johnny, for whatever reason, and men of
- 27:57Speaker 6: his generation thought it was totally fine for the husband.
- 28:00Speaker 6: There was nothing they would say, it was nothing emotional
- 28:02Speaker 6: about it, just physical. But if their wives did it
- 28:04Speaker 6: for whatever reason, it was like the worst thing that
- 28:07Speaker 6: they could possibly do. But yeah, Joanne was probably not
- 28:10Speaker 6: smart about that. And then she of course moved to
- 28:13Speaker 6: California and moved with Truman Capodi, who also has neighbors
- 28:17Speaker 6: with Johnny and the un Plausa. Can you believe this?
- 28:20Speaker 6: Bobby Kennedy, Truman, Capodi, David Suskin, Angela Lansbury, Yule Brenner.
- 28:25Speaker 6: I mean, it was just a cavalcade of talent in
- 28:28Speaker 6: this one place. And then yeah, Truman Capodi in White
- 28:31Speaker 6: Number two moved to la and they lived there until
- 28:33Speaker 6: they passed away.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Well that un Plaza back in nineteen sixty four
- 28:37Speaker 2: sixty five, that was the premier apartment building of New York.
- 28:40Speaker 6: It really wise, I mean it was. It was That's
- 28:43Speaker 6: where Johnny met Sonny Werblin, who owned the New York Jets,
- 28:46Speaker 6: who became his business partner, and they opened the clothing
- 28:48Speaker 6: line and made Johnny a rich ben.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Wow.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Now, hey, get the book. Most of it is positive
- 28:53Speaker 2: and Johnny Carson, if you have exactly that's true, wonderful guy.
- 28:57Speaker 2: We're just focusing on the bad stuff here first, because
- 28:59Speaker 2: we got to it before, and there were people that
- 29:01Speaker 2: got themselves banned from this to Night show because Johnny
- 29:04Speaker 2: would have a problem with him. Right.
- 29:06Speaker 6: You know, I talked to four hundred people. When I'm
- 29:08Speaker 6: talking to people that were on the very first show,
- 29:10Speaker 6: like mel Brooks, to people that were, you know, one
- 29:12Speaker 6: of the last guest in nineteen ninety to so you
- 29:15Speaker 6: have thirty years of people. The one thing Carson did
- 29:18Speaker 6: the test it was rudeness, especially to his staff, and
- 29:22Speaker 6: he was, you know, from Nebraska, and he was very
- 29:24Speaker 6: much about having good manners. And Jerry Lewis was really
- 29:27Speaker 6: rude to Carson's staff, and Carson said, he is never
- 29:30Speaker 6: coming back. He would not tolerate rudeness. He would not
- 29:35Speaker 6: tolerate comedians coming on for that we're debuting that did
- 29:39Speaker 6: material that might offend his audience. So unfortunately, Ellen DeGeneres
- 29:43Speaker 6: on her third appearance, did an offensive joke that Carson
- 29:46Speaker 6: asked her not to do, and she did it, and
- 29:47Speaker 6: she was banned on the show from the show. So
- 29:49Speaker 6: there were a bunch of people, maybe like thirty people
- 29:53Speaker 6: that were not welcomed on the show anymore. I mean,
- 29:56Speaker 6: William Shatner was somebody that wouldn't let Johnny get a
- 29:58Speaker 6: word in, and Johnny and tested that and then Shatner
- 30:01Speaker 6: turned his back to Carson to talk to the previous guests,
- 30:04Speaker 6: Buddy Hackett and then Shatner. Back then, you weren't allowed
- 30:07Speaker 6: to believe it or not to you remember this, You
- 30:08Speaker 6: weren't allowed to say what network your show was on
- 30:11Speaker 6: unless it was NBC, they say, on another network. And
- 30:13Speaker 6: of course Shatner says, watched me Saturday nights on ABC TJ. Hooker.
- 30:18Speaker 6: So Johnny basically said, three strikes, you're out, and we
- 30:20Speaker 6: go into everyone that was banned and why they were banned.
- 30:23Speaker 6: Rich little to this, almost to this day would he
- 30:28Speaker 6: asked me, why do you know why I was banned?
- 30:30Speaker 6: And I was able with my reporting to figure that
- 30:33Speaker 6: out why these people we were gone from Carson's show,
- 30:36Speaker 6: and even his friend Carl Sagan, the famous astronomer, unfortunately
- 30:40Speaker 6: after ten or twelve appearances, was banned from the show.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but he remained friends with him. He'd still go
- 30:45Speaker 2: to dinner with him.
- 30:47Speaker 6: He did. Unfortunately, he interrupted Carson twice during this segment
- 30:52Speaker 6: to correct him, and it was very abrupt, and Johnny
- 30:54Speaker 6: was embarrassed and thought it was poor manners. And he
- 30:56Speaker 6: never had him on. He did stay friends with him,
- 30:59Speaker 6: you know, he would have did with Carl Sagan. He
- 31:02Speaker 6: with Jim Fowler, the wildlife expert. He went to San
- 31:05Speaker 6: Diego to see the animals with joanah Embery at the
- 31:08Speaker 6: San Diegoo. Just a really, really interested man in how
- 31:12Speaker 6: things work. He really loved New York. I mean he
- 31:16Speaker 6: pitched to Mickey Mantle in nineteen sixty two on the
- 31:18Speaker 6: Tonight Show. He played with the Jets at the Polo Grounds.
- 31:22Speaker 6: He was diving out of planes. I mean, Mark, you
- 31:25Speaker 6: and I talk about Johnny in the New York years.
- 31:27Speaker 6: Unfortunately most of that footage is gone. But Johnny was
- 31:31Speaker 6: on a different level, jumping out of airplanes, racing an
- 31:35Speaker 6: Indiana motor speedway with Hernelli Jones, going over one hundred
- 31:39Speaker 6: miles an hour. It's a really, really fun thirty years
- 31:42Speaker 6: to look at.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Well, it's a great book. I urge everybody to get it,
- 31:45Speaker 2: the new book, and it's got all kinds of great
- 31:47Speaker 2: things about Johnny Carson and everything you never knew about him.
- 31:50Speaker 2: It's fascinating. It's called Love Johnny Carson by Mark Malkoff. Now,
- 31:55Speaker 2: for those are going to write to me, what was
- 31:57Speaker 2: the name of that place? Love Johnny Carson by Mark Malkoff.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Get the book. You're gonna love it. And listen to
- 32:04Speaker 2: the Carson Podcast. He's got four hundred episodes that are amazing.
- 32:07Speaker 2: But get the book, Love Johnny Carson, Mark Malkoff. It's
- 32:10Speaker 2: on Amazon. Mark Malcoff, We'll do it again soon. Thanks
- 32:13Speaker 2: for being with us.
- 32:14Speaker 6: I would love that yet. We have some new episodes
- 32:16Speaker 6: coming out and always good talking to you. Mark. Thank
- 32:18Speaker 6: you so much.
- 32:18Speaker 2: All right, take care. Hey, don't forget. Curtis is now
- 32:22Speaker 2: on the Morning show, Curtis and Larry, Curtis Lee, Larry Minty.
- 32:26Speaker 2: It's every morning six to ten, seven to ten wor here's.
- 32:31Speaker 1: More Mark Simone on seven ten wor.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Hey we're out of time. Lousy weather today, but spring
- 32:38Speaker 2: begins Friday. I'll see you tomorrow ten o'clock, seven to
- 32:41Speaker 2: ten wor
