- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Tape, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:17presented by Seat kick this episode 470.
- 0:19I'll be your host Kyle Korn. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes and Nate. Happy Sunday Monday for some of
- 0:31you underachievers, my overachievers.
- 0:35Happy Sunday. You know who you are.
- 0:38They're out there. I I know they're out there.
- 0:40They got the notice on. They know what they're doing.
- 0:45They they're they're, they're just next level.
- 0:49They're. We don't like.
- 0:51They're who I love most. I don't like that favorites.
- 0:53Yeah, we don't like to play favorites, but.
- 0:56If you got your notice on and you're hopping in with live.
- 0:59You're kind of our favorites. It's kind of a given.
- 1:03Ricky says how about that Dodgers walk off?
- 1:09You're going to have to. This button has to be retired
- 1:13soon. No, I'm never retiring the
- 1:17breaking news button. Just so we're clear what a walk
- 1:19off it was, though. Not that we need to talk about
- 1:21it because I had no intention of really talking about it, but
- 1:25David said, Oh, hold on. David says 1st 120, shout out
- 1:29the White Sox. What a year.
- 1:33Shout out the White Sox we got. Oh, I, I love, I love when
- 1:38people bring breaking news to the recordings.
- 1:41I love it. I love it, I love it, Scott
- 1:44says. Why is the Philly fan wearing a
- 1:46Boston hat? Hey, shout out, shout out being
- 1:51a bandwagon fan. Shout out being a bandwagon
- 1:56band. Love that.
- 1:57Just such a. Crazy unnecessary stray, but I'm
- 2:01here for it. My goodness, no.
- 2:06But the that Dodgers walk off, I don't know if you saw it, but
- 2:09just it could not have been a more Dodgers walk off.
- 2:12Shohei ties it up in the ninth with a solo shot to give him
- 2:16what, 53, which we'll touch on. And that Mookie hits a walk off.
- 2:22Just the most Dodgers thing ever.
- 2:25To the Twitter. To the to the Twitter.
- 2:29Let's not get let's not get into it just yet.
- 2:31Let's let's let's sit here in this moment that we're in right
- 2:35now, Nate and reflect reflects on the fact that we have one
- 2:41week of regular season baseball left.
- 2:44Where did the time go? This is, it's weird.
- 2:50It's really weird because like at different moments.
- 2:56It was opening day like 3 days ago so where what happened?
- 3:00It really doesn't feel that long ago that Ryan was buzzed on our
- 3:04Hot Takes episode. Which by the way, my, my, my
- 3:10social awareness when it comes to whether or not people are
- 3:13actually buzzed or just full on wasted.
- 3:16I mean, if, if somebody's just belligerent, I, I, I'm, I'm OK
- 3:19at picking up those cues. Like, I just thought Ryan was
- 3:22having like a good time, you know, and he had a little bit on
- 3:25the side there. To that was just long enough for
- 3:27him to sober up towards the end, but that's.
- 3:29Fair. That's fair.
- 3:32Yeah. And then at the same time, it's
- 3:34like August felt like it was three months long.
- 3:37That's true, you know. And here we are with a week to
- 3:42go in September, knocking on the door of of the postseason.
- 3:45Yeah, good for us. Another year in the books, man.
- 3:50Another regular season, just hammering out episodes, watching
- 3:56a whole lot of baseball. This is cool, you watching some
- 4:02football on the side? All right, so all going on the.
- 4:06Side I don't do I have the freedom to do?
- 4:08Can I speak freely here? Depends.
- 4:11I'm not going to throw you one of the bus here, but I I need to
- 4:13pose. I need to pose a question to our
- 4:15listeners here. Well, let me lay out the
- 4:20scenario because there's a lot of play here.
- 4:21OK, So Nate, obviously Yankees fan, let let's just forgive him
- 4:25for that, OK? We, he, we can forgive him for
- 4:28that. And he also, I'm going to come
- 4:30to his defense. He has the ability and the
- 4:32freedom to talk freely about other baseball teams.
- 4:34Just because he's a Yankees fan doesn't mean he can't talk about
- 4:36other teams. Just get that out of the way.
- 4:40But Nate's a Yankees fan. Nate also loves football, and he
- 4:44informed me just before we hopped on that he had the
- 4:48Yankees game on his iPad and he had football on the big TV.
- 4:54How do we feel about this? How do we feel about being a fan
- 4:58of a team that's already locked up the postseason?
- 5:04Extensively in the division, just a matter of time.
- 5:07Extensively in the division, relegating that to the iPad.
- 5:12Afternoon game against the A's, by the way.
- 5:15That's for for more. It's still, it's still, you're
- 5:18still a baseball first guy. How do I like is, is this
- 5:21allowed? Are we giving him a pass here
- 5:23'cause I'm on the fence? When I have a $500 buy in for my
- 5:27fantasy league, that's fair. It's going up on the main
- 5:33screen. I forgot to.
- 5:34I forgot to remind myself of that.
- 5:36That's fair. That's all about.
- 5:37Context, my friend. All about context Sunday.
- 5:42Look, it's I'm in this weird lull before the postseason
- 5:48starts. The Yanks are playing great.
- 5:50I'm in this like it's the A's. It's a sweep.
- 5:56I don't need to have the volume on.
- 6:00That's how I roll. Speaking of $500 buy in, let's
- 6:08talk about CJ Abrams. Washington National Shortstop
- 6:13decided that, you know, it's time to mail this thing in.
- 6:18Let's let's head on over to Bally's, which by the way, I
- 6:23feel obligated to call out some of the degenerates in the
- 6:26comments because there were some people when I put out the post
- 6:31that, you know, summarized the, the incident of, of him getting
- 6:37demoted, being sent down because he was out at the the casino
- 6:40until 8:00 in the morning, which you've probably been to a casino
- 6:44more times than I have. That that's, I mean late being
- 6:48out late at night is one thing, but eight in the morning is
- 6:51that, is that normal behavior? I don't know.
- 6:54I've never played. I've never.
- 6:56I've played blackjack twice. When I go to the casino, I lose
- 6:5920 bucks in the slots and I'm out.
- 7:02That's me, that's me. I get the like $50.00 that they
- 7:07pump you with right away because it's all computerized now and
- 7:10they know how to latch you on it.
- 7:12And then I, I, I say, I'm going to convince myself that I'm
- 7:15going to save it. And I say, well, what, what's $5
- 7:18here? What's $10 here?
- 7:19And then by the end of it, I've lost the house.
- 7:21By the time that I, I leave, I've only gone a couple times.
- 7:25So not for me, but I got a call out the degenerates because they
- 7:29were like, yo, that's Bally's casino, isn't it?
- 7:32I'm like, how? First of all, how can you
- 7:34recognize that from a picture a, a cell phone picture of CJ
- 7:38Abrams? I I'm concerned for the
- 7:41well-being of some of our listeners who recognize the
- 7:44casino from the cell phone picture taken by a bystander of
- 7:48CJ Abrams. It's like table height, like
- 7:52sneaking around the dealer. And they're like, Oh yeah, no,
- 7:56no, that's Bally's and what and whatever.
- 7:58I don't even know. It's.
- 8:00Table 17. Isn't it like like crazy, just
- 8:05outing themselves? Oh, that's Sarah.
- 8:09She just walked by with the drinks and the and the
- 8:11appetizers. Like come on, let's clean it up.
- 8:16It's all. Potato skin Friday.
- 8:20I mean, I, I, I guess though, I, I mean, now that I'm thinking it
- 8:24through, I guess if you know, like what city he's in because
- 8:27this was it. Were they at home at at this
- 8:30point or were they on the road? It was Friday.
- 8:33Was this in Cincy because I guess if I now that I'm thinking
- 8:38there, if you if you know what city and they're they're you're
- 8:40probably limited on the casino options.
- 8:41But either way to Chicago, Chicago, that's what it was it
- 8:45it either way, little concerning that you can just spot you, you
- 8:49know, you know, the the waitresses walking by, you know
- 8:52the the specials that they've got going on Little much, little
- 8:56much. But no, he has been demoted to
- 8:59triple-A and he's losing. What's crazy is I don't know if
- 9:05you saw this detail come out after.
- 9:07He's losing money. He's losing 30 K and at and at
- 9:12the time that he got sent down. Drop in the bucket of what he
- 9:14lost on Friday. That's very true.
- 9:18Yeah. You're not you're not staying
- 9:20out till 8:00 AM if you're in the green.
- 9:22We know, we know that much. You're trying to you're trying
- 9:25to do a little bit of recouping. I know, we know that.
- 9:29But no, he's losing 30 K And I believe at the time that he got
- 9:32sent down, they only had two games left.
- 9:38Really. So like when when it happened
- 9:42before the news came out about the the casino, people were like
- 9:47me, I mean, me included when I saw this.
- 9:49I'm going. There is no way that you can
- 9:52convince me his play has been that bad as of late to send him
- 9:56down with the week left in the in the in the big league season.
- 10:00And then we find out about the casino and then you're like,
- 10:03kind of makes sense, which brings me to my next point.
- 10:07How do we feel? How do we feel about this?
- 10:09We'll just call it tough love. I mean, because this is, I mean,
- 10:13this isn't just a benching, this is, this is a full blown
- 10:18demotion here because of his actions.
- 10:20How do we feel about it? Sorry I'm just reading through
- 10:24this article saying it was eight for his last 17.
- 10:29It does say ballet casino Jim Bowden's tweet.
- 10:33I like it look man, like First off, we don't know if this is
- 10:41his first time, right? Like have they have they dragged
- 10:45him out of a casino before? Like has this been an issue in
- 10:49the past? We don't know that.
- 10:52Did they keep it in house before?
- 10:53And then this was like, you know, was that a discussion
- 10:56being like, hey, you know, we catch you again.
- 10:58Here are the consequences. Here's what's going to happen.
- 11:018:00 AM is insane, especially for a day game.
- 11:04And what noon I think? I think it was a one Saturday
- 11:08game. I mean most of those guys are
- 11:11getting to the park. I I think it like 93010 O clock
- 11:14at the latest. For sure.
- 11:15Yeah, yeah. So when you, I'm assuming curfew
- 11:22set when you're on the road, like there, there's a lot of
- 11:28things that go into this where I think lines have been drawn, you
- 11:32know, like here, here are expectations don't cross them.
- 11:40I think it sends a massive message on what will be
- 11:46tolerated moving forward. I, I like it all.
- 11:49I'm OK with everything about this on the national side.
- 11:52I really am because like you and I have talked about it and, and
- 11:55you can speak to this better than me, but like the, I think
- 12:00with the names they have in the, in the core that they're trying
- 12:02to build and what they're trying to do and they're only five
- 12:07years removed, you know, from their last ring.
- 12:09It's not like they've gone this 10/12/15 year period of having
- 12:14to rebuild. Like in reality, this potential
- 12:17rebuild is happening pretty quick.
- 12:19I'm not sitting here and saying that they're going to be
- 12:22fighting for the division next year by any means.
- 12:24But when you talk about some of these names that they've gotten
- 12:27in these trades and the drafts, it's like, OK, we, we can see
- 12:32something happening here. So I, I think it sets like a
- 12:36really good precedent. It sends a really good message
- 12:41of like, you know, this isn't going to happen.
- 12:44You're not wasting your time in some worthless organization.
- 12:49We pride ourselves on, you know, having a championship mentality.
- 12:54I think this is a job well done by GMI think this is a job well
- 12:57done by the organization in general.
- 13:00I support it. And on top of that, I think the
- 13:04thing that people need to keep in perspective here, who is
- 13:08predominantly been the headlining name for the
- 13:11Washington Nationals this year, yeah, one could argue CJ Abrams.
- 13:16So what would that say to the rest of the guys in that
- 13:20clubhouse if this just gets slid under the rug?
- 13:22Right, 100? Percent, 100%.
- 13:26And this is this is more so for for him than the team that the
- 13:30team doesn't need CJCJ Abrams right now.
- 13:32There's a week left to go in the season they've been eliminated.
- 13:37If if anything, your guys in, in, in this situation are just
- 13:41using this last week to get to, to get tuned up for the
- 13:43offseason, just to make some, some last minute tweaks, some
- 13:48adjustments to see what, what's working form and, and they can
- 13:52build off that once the offseason gets here.
- 13:55This is more for him and, and getting him in a position of
- 14:00possible leadership heading into next year.
- 14:02Because like we were like we were just talking about the
- 14:05nationals are going to become more and more of a, a threat in,
- 14:09in seasons to come. And I'm, I would imagine they
- 14:12want him to be a part of that. They're I, I would, I would
- 14:15probably peg the nationals as a team that would follow a similar
- 14:20path. And again, we, we already talked
- 14:22about it. They they got the ring back in
- 14:2419. So it's not like we're talking
- 14:25about some team that's been thirsting for a ring for decades
- 14:28now. Like they, they've got that, but
- 14:30they're they're having to re enter this cycle where it's
- 14:33like, OK, we got to get back to that point.
- 14:35And I would probably, I'd probably say they're going to
- 14:38follow a path of like the Tigers where it's like, OK, you're kind
- 14:40of the laughingstock of the league, Maybe not even a
- 14:43laughingstock, but you're just you're, you're, you're
- 14:46uncompetitive for an extended period of time.
- 14:48And then you, you, you might even sneak into the playoffs
- 14:52this year. Then the next year you maybe
- 14:54make a run at the division. And then the years to follow,
- 14:58you're, you're possibly even going for the Pennant, Who
- 15:00knows? But it, you, you can't get to
- 15:03that point if you don't take care of the little things first.
- 15:06Like they, they, you, they teach you that in Little League, you
- 15:09got in order to worry about the big things, you got to focus on
- 15:11the little little things first. And if you have a guy that they
- 15:14want to peg possibly as a leader of this clubhouse, you can't,
- 15:18you can't let it slide that he's out at the casino till 8:00 in
- 15:20the morning, regardless if they're eliminated or not.
- 15:23It does. It does not matter.
- 15:25And, and I think now more than ever, when you when you grab
- 15:29names from the past and you we can crossover into different
- 15:32sports and you can talk, you know, I mean, Michael Jordan's
- 15:37Michael Jordan, but like he absolutely was a gambling man.
- 15:41When you talk Dennis Rodman, you know, flying to Vegas in the
- 15:44middle of the finals, you know, you have David Wells going out
- 15:49and and staying out late at bars and then throwing a perfect game
- 15:52the next day. Like there's eyes everywhere
- 15:55now. Then information is
- 15:56instantaneous. Now, you know, like this is out
- 16:00in the open right away. And I think there's probably a
- 16:04little bit of like a smack in the face to the organization as
- 16:07well, just being like, I'm seeing a tweet about you.
- 16:11I don't, I haven't heard anything about you, but I'm
- 16:13finding out on Twitter because of what you're doing versus back
- 16:17in the day, it was like, you know, a teammate had to go find
- 16:20him somewhere or, you know, the club he had to go, you know, do
- 16:23this. Like it's just you can't, you
- 16:26can't operate that way anymore and you're not that guy yet.
- 16:30The I don't think you have that kind of leash, You know what I
- 16:33mean? Like you haven't gotten to that
- 16:35point in your career where you're able to do these types of
- 16:38things. So not that it's ever
- 16:42necessarily acceptable in these terms of a day game and and 8:00
- 16:48AM checking back in from the there from the, from the casino.
- 16:52I mean, it's, it's a tough look, dude.
- 16:55It's a tough look. And this is probably going to
- 16:57smart a little bit. It's probably going to be a
- 16:59little hit to the to the confidence, to the ego.
- 17:02But like, I think if I'm CJ Abrams, I got to be somewhat
- 17:07thankful of the timing of this type of decision.
- 17:09If this happens in July, which who knows, maybe he's not
- 17:13staying at an at a casino until 8:00 AM in July.
- 17:17But like, I think the way everything has been handled is,
- 17:22is good. You know, there's a week left.
- 17:25We have the, the offseason to let this kind of blow over.
- 17:29We have all of spring training to kind of get back on the feet.
- 17:32And he he has come onto the scene and he has started to show
- 17:36why he was worth that trade. So it's just going to take a lot
- 17:43to kind of overcome this because you know, jokes are going to be
- 17:46fine for a while. Well, that's a perfect segue
- 17:50here because I the reason I started smiling is because I, I
- 17:55just remembered a picture I saw the other day, like probably
- 18:00within 24 hours of it happening. This is why social media is
- 18:03undefeated. Somebody had photoshopped a
- 18:06picture. Well, they took the picture of
- 18:08see that was snapped of CJ Abrams at the table and somebody
- 18:13made it real small, put them over in the corner, but it was
- 18:16eBay standing at the same table. I'm like these, these folks
- 18:22don't let anything slide, man. It's crazy.
- 18:25I saw a tweet that was like, and I don't know if this number is
- 18:29accurate at all, but it was like CJ Abrams lost 130 K at the
- 18:34casino, which still isn't a record.
- 18:37And then like a little space below just says eBay in ( 2023.
- 18:43Like, like he holds that record. It's so true, I love it.
- 18:49Speaking of losing, so let's revisit this White Sox nugget.
- 18:55120 losses on the season made official mere moments ago at the
- 19:01hands of the Padres. I believe it was a comeback win
- 19:04for the pods, who we'll touch on here in just a moment.
- 19:09They're they're riding the wave of their own, but the White Sox
- 19:14have tied the 1962 Mets record for most losses in the modern
- 19:20era. Six games left.
- 19:24At 120 with six games left. I feel good about this.
- 19:28I feel good about that record. Let's get the one.
- 19:30Let's get the 1:25. It's a nice rounded number.
- 19:34OK, give me, give me your realistic, give me your
- 19:38realistic estimate as to how you think these last six games are
- 19:41going to go for the White Sox. What do you peg?
- 19:43What is What is their final lost tally by the end of this?
- 19:47Week, So six games, Angels. They're hosting the Angels
- 19:51starting Tuesday, and then they're going to Detroit to
- 19:55finish out for three games. So it's a is it a league wide,
- 19:59league wide off day tomorrow? Correct.
- 20:03Aren't all these because there's six games left unless somebody's
- 20:06getting? I think there's a there's
- 20:09probably like a make make up like rain out games, stuff like
- 20:14that maybe. Thursdays that oh, there's
- 20:17literally there's four games on Monday, four games tomorrow.
- 20:20That's all we got. So that means.
- 20:22I hate that. So six games, yeah, I would
- 20:29really love to see. I would really love to see
- 20:34around 1:25. Oh, and that you said they close
- 20:38out with the Tigers? Yeah, I just don't even, I don't
- 20:41think the Angels are good enough to take two out of three.
- 20:46Screw it, let's go, let's go. One for five.
- 20:49One and five here. A nice round 125 loss season.
- 20:54125 that would math. Don't fail me now.
- 20:59That would be 125 and 37. Yeah, Well, yeah, it'd be one.
- 21:13One more win than they have now. Which?
- 21:15Is 36. Yeah, I'm at adds up.
- 21:20Need that. Love that.
- 21:21Feel bad for Grady Sizemore. I I really don't like the, I
- 21:26mean, I like they were on this, yeah.
- 21:29But this, this is no reflection of Grady Sizemore.
- 21:31They were on this trajectory when he took over.
- 21:33They had been on this trajectory pretty much since opening day.
- 21:36So like, he's more so just along for the ride than anything.
- 21:41But yeah, I mean, I would hate to have to show up to the
- 21:43ballpark every day with this, with this going on.
- 21:45But the, I think the, I think the highlight from this, this
- 21:52stretch that they've been on as of late or really the whole
- 21:55season, but especially as of late, is the, what you and I
- 21:58were talking about, the social media admin, the Twitter admin
- 22:02has fully thrown in the towel as if, as if they had no reason to
- 22:08at any other point during the season.
- 22:09They, I think they got to a point where they're like, you
- 22:12know, we're, we're really coasting now.
- 22:15We're letting it ride. So I mean, if if you're on
- 22:19Twitter at all, you need to check out what's been going on
- 22:22with that. I mean, they they're just,
- 22:24they're just letting it loose pretty much any of the game like
- 22:30recap tweets that they post. It's just like the ones I'm
- 22:33looking at now. Final instead of posting the
- 22:36scores that can be found on the MLB app final.
- 22:38The number of runs we scored was not crater than the number of
- 22:41runs they scored final. The other team scored more runs
- 22:45than us. And then the one tonight after
- 22:46they dropped that comeback win to the Padres.
- 22:52It was something like you saw it.
- 22:53What was it? It was like post the final.
- 22:55It was that car peeling off to the exit ramp meme.
- 23:00It was like post the final score graphic or literally anything
- 23:03else and it's peeling off to literally anything else.
- 23:05They, I mean, they just don't care.
- 23:07Like I said, I'm. I'm I like it.
- 23:09I'm here for. That, oh, I love it.
- 23:10I'm I'm just genuinely surprised it took them this long.
- 23:12I, I, I guess they must have had like an internal conversation
- 23:15with the with the social creative team and they're like,
- 23:19yeah, all right, We're we're in the clear now.
- 23:21Like we don't have these games truly mean nothing at this
- 23:24point. So, you know, good on the White
- 23:27Sox for embrace embracing the suck.
- 23:30I can't say the same about the A's, but you know, whatever
- 23:34they're going to do what they're going to do.
- 23:36I like this one. Four days ago.
- 23:37This is Narrator Colon. The White Sox did not win four
- 23:41in a row. Flat energy face.
- 23:44Yeah, that was I I saw that one and I and I had to pause and go
- 23:49back and look at the schedule. I'm like, hold on, The White Sox
- 23:51won three straight. When did this happen?
- 23:54I love this. I I just think like there's not
- 23:59to get like too serious about this because whatever, but like
- 24:02there's just something that's so cool in sports when you're like
- 24:05raw and real and like when the fan base knows what you mean and
- 24:10can see through your, your politically correct BS answers
- 24:15and tweets and comments and you're like, just be real, dude.
- 24:19Like just show what we're all. Saying and thinking it's the
- 24:25simplest, one of the simplest social experiments you could
- 24:30ever run. Go look at the comments.
- 24:33I mean, I'm, I'm looking at this through the lens of like social
- 24:35media success and, and just kind of embracing the fans that pay
- 24:39money to, to watch you and support you.
- 24:44Just do a little compare and contrast.
- 24:46Go read the replies in in those tweets and then, well, you can't
- 24:49read the replies of the A's tweets, but just do a little
- 24:54digging around and see what the sentiment was surrounding that.
- 24:57And then compare that to what the White Sox are doing.
- 24:59White Sox are a far worse team this year and they're still
- 25:03getting love on social because of stuff like this.
- 25:05It's a, it's a easy social experiment and I don't know why
- 25:07more teams don't do this. I think you're right.
- 25:09I think trying to like keep a professional tone on like, no,
- 25:15nobody cares. Like nobody cares.
- 25:16Just let it, let it eat and have fun with it 'cause you suck and
- 25:21you're you're now tied for the most most losses in in the
- 25:26modern era. So one in five, one in five,
- 25:28everybody. That's good on the Whites here.
- 25:30I'm about it. Let's talk about some teams that
- 25:37are in the mix here making a push.
- 25:41Well, one of them's already. One of them's already in, the
- 25:45other one is not officially in yet, which is wild given that
- 25:51you're a 90 win team at this point.
- 25:53But the Dodgers and the Padres just want to touch on this
- 25:59division race right quick because I'm looking at you,
- 26:05Nate. Yeah, you have pretty much
- 26:08written this division off couple weeks, couple weeks ago.
- 26:12And I said no, hold on. And then you asked me.
- 26:15You're like, well, what? What would what would you
- 26:17consider close or what what how many games back would would the
- 26:23Padres have to be for it to be considered a quote?
- 26:26I believe I said not a cute. Story.
- 26:29Yeah. I think we both, yeah, I think
- 26:32we both agreed on that. I think I said like 2 1/2 or
- 26:35something. It's.
- 26:36A fair number. 'Cause you were calling it a
- 26:38cute story the the run that the the Padres and respectively, the
- 26:41D backs we're making. Although the D backs have hit a
- 26:44little bit more of a slide, Padres are 8 and two in their
- 26:46last 10. They've won four straight and as
- 26:50mentioned, 3 back of the Dodgers.
- 26:54At the time of this recording. At the time of this recording,
- 26:57so all let's say just checking in.
- 26:59Don't think it's don't entirely think it's just a cute story
- 27:03yet. Big three-game set.
- 27:05I want to see the pitching matchups here.
- 27:08Michael King against somebody with the last name NAK.
- 27:13Landon Knack, Who knows Ball? Don't cease, Jack Flaherty.
- 27:22By the way, Nate, on this on this note, you and I got called
- 27:24out on Joe. Mossgrove against undecided.
- 27:28We got called out on YouTube for not remembering that show.
- 27:33Hayes walk off was a Grand Slam they said.
- 27:37They said this channel said this channel sucks, he's got no ball.
- 27:40I said oh that seems. Rational weeks ago.
- 27:44That was like a month ago that. Seems that seems rational.
- 27:47Very rational take. I really remember that, I
- 27:49remember everything about the moment, just don't remember it
- 27:53being a walk off sorry. Yeah.
- 27:57Yeah, good, good matchups for the for the Padres, at least.
- 28:04I mean, Nate, three-game set Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
- 28:07I mean, the Padres take this, they, they hypothetically, they
- 28:11sweep the series. We're looking at the final three
- 28:15games. I know it's.
- 28:16Crazy too deciding this the. Padres The Dodgers go on to go
- 28:22to Course Field to face the Rockies, but the Padres come
- 28:27here to Phoenix and finish up with the Diamondbacks.
- 28:32So however this series goes, it's a tougher final three-game
- 28:37set for the Padres for sure. So I mean it well, that, yeah,
- 28:42that, that that would make sense.
- 28:44If you're, if you're going to get your, if you're getting your
- 28:48your punches in, you better do it this series because Dodgers
- 28:53are heading to Colorado. Good luck with that.
- 28:56Padres, if you don't take the series and you're trying for
- 28:59that division crown, which they may or may not be.
- 29:01We've talked about this. It I, I would, I would venture
- 29:04to say that it's probably a team by team approach in terms of who
- 29:09actually wants the division based on the way they've seen
- 29:12these last few expanded post seasons go with teams getting
- 29:17the bye versus not getting the bye.
- 29:20How does that impact momentum? How does that impact?
- 29:22Yeah, the rest that you get or or lack thereof, Some, some
- 29:27teams may not want that division.
- 29:28I know it sounds silly, but there's some strategy to it if
- 29:31you look at the way things have gone.
- 29:34I'm yeah, I'm not ready to to let that die yet.
- 29:39I'm not ready to to let that narrative or theory die yet.
- 29:45I mean, taking that time off, it just depends, dude, because
- 29:49like, you know, one can argue that the Dodgers need it to get
- 29:52a little bit more healthy. Still, a million question marks
- 29:55are on that pitching staff. I mean, Thursday's game is still
- 29:58undecided. Like we don't we have no idea
- 30:00what's going on there. So Padres, I mean, they again,
- 30:08they just they give me like Diamondbacks from last year
- 30:10vibes were just like, let's just keep playing, stay hot, stay in
- 30:14a groove. You know, it's that theory that
- 30:17like which I don't know how I feel about this theory, but
- 30:21sometimes it makes sense. We're like home runs kill a
- 30:24rally. Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:27Like I'd I'd. That's very like.
- 30:29I'd prefer double S to like roll over or something like, you
- 30:31know, like a single and like score runner, then like a, you
- 30:35know, empty the bases with, you know, a home run.
- 30:37Like sometimes it kills a rally. I feel like when you're going
- 30:41hot, you don't want days off. You don't want to, to rest like
- 30:45you want to stay in the groove. So it's very interesting.
- 30:49And like you mentioned, the Padres being 8 and 2, like you
- 30:54can be amped up, man. It is in LA, by the way, not in
- 30:57San Diego. It was in San Diego, I think.
- 31:01I think this would be a very different, the exciting thing.
- 31:08But I, I, I think the Dodgers are fine.
- 31:10I think they're OK. You think they pull it out?
- 31:14I think they're OK because I'm rooting for something to happen
- 31:17and with what Shohei could do, it means that they're likely
- 31:22winning. So I'm rooting for what Shohei
- 31:25could do and I think the result of it being them winning.
- 31:30You really set us set us up on a tee for that one.
- 31:34Speaking of which, Shohei Otani pushing for 6060.
- 31:41And I know, I know. You hear that and you go,
- 31:43there's no way. We were, we were wondering if
- 31:46he'd even make 5050 by the end of season.
- 31:48Yeah, he probably was too. And then was like, while I'm
- 31:50here, may as well push it to 6060 or at least die trying.
- 31:56Shout out $0.50. Look, I think the swipes are
- 32:00there. I'd like the swipes feel like
- 32:02they just they come naturally. 53 homers and 55 bags.
- 32:09I think you're right. I think he gets 6060 swipes,
- 32:12which if I'm being honest, like, yeah, it's a more impressive
- 32:21thing, but I like the round nature of a 5050.
- 32:26So like, if you're going to do one, do the other.
- 32:28And I know that's asking a lot because we have six games.
- 32:30Left Oh, you're saying like 7 Homer, Don't, don't.
- 32:33If you can't get the seven, Homer, don't get to 60.
- 32:36Yeah, I get that. Yeah, don't give me a 5060
- 32:39season that that does. Yeah, it doesn't ring.
- 32:41That does ring ring as well. Yeah, it doesn't, doesn't roll
- 32:44out the tongue. I get that, but I mean when you
- 32:46think about it, like could you imagine a more perfect ending?
- 32:49You get three games at home and you get 3 games in Denver at
- 32:54Coors Field. We just watched him hit three in
- 32:58Miami. Like yeah, he he's off on suck
- 33:03teams. If he gets a couple, seven home
- 33:09runs in six games is nuts. But all right, let's let's well,
- 33:12let's map it out here. So you got six games.
- 33:15You would obviously need a couple multi home run games
- 33:18there. So let's say he has 2 multi home
- 33:20run games. That would put him at 4, which
- 33:22would give him 57, which means he would have.
- 33:26Four games and four games. Three home runs and four games,
- 33:30which means zoom out, big picture, you're hitting a home
- 33:33run every game for the next for the final six games of the
- 33:36regular season. So that's that's a feat.
- 33:40Here's the other argument though.
- 33:42It takes away the opportunities for the swipes like.
- 33:47That's very true. Kids steal as many bags if
- 33:49you're if you're trotting so. Yeah, that's true.
- 33:52Because that would means that the that those ABS that you're
- 33:56not hitting nukes, you had very, very limited ABS at that point.
- 34:01That means you have to get on in those few limited ABS.
- 34:05So which which really means Shohei would probably have to
- 34:08hit like 950 over the course of the last six games.
- 34:12Yeah. So if you're if you're if you're
- 34:16Shohei, give me 6060 or give me nothing.
- 34:20Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:22Otherwise, shut it down on the basis you're right 50-60 does
- 34:26not have their ring. Because even like even if you
- 34:29get 59, you're not, I mean you're, you're not in the 5060
- 34:33club, but then it's like you may as well be at 60.
- 34:38So just get 60. Yeah.
- 34:41Either shut it down now or get the 66 that's it's simple
- 34:44though. He's.
- 34:44Rolling now he's he's matching. Right now, so let.
- 34:48Me see, let me but. Again, day off tomorrow.
- 34:51Like sometimes you don't want those.
- 34:55That's not what show he needs right now.
- 35:04Last, sorry, I'm pulling up what show he's done the last 10 days.
- 35:12So in 10 games between September 12th and September 22nd, he's
- 35:18hitting 429 with 18 hits, six home runs, 19 ribbies and 12
- 35:23runs scored. And 200 total bases. 200 total
- 35:31bases and I have 7 swipes over that span.
- 35:33So 7 swipes over 10 games over his last 10 games.
- 35:40I feel like the swipes are there.
- 35:43I need AI. Need just a straight slugfest in
- 35:46Denver? He can do it, I mean.
- 35:49Need a couple of these games to go extra like I, I think I want
- 35:54it root for something, you know? I need the White Sox to tank.
- 35:59I need Otani to become all. Right, so the checklist for Nate
- 36:04checklist for Nate this week White Sox go one and five show.
- 36:09Hey, just do the 60 sixty thing. That's all I need, then I'm
- 36:13fine. That's.
- 36:15Everything. Everything else doesn't even
- 36:18matter. It's a simple ask.
- 36:28We'll see if it plays out. We'll see if it plays out.
- 36:32Lastly here, Nate, let's talk about this final series coming
- 36:35up at the Coliseum. Talking kind of the theme of
- 36:38this episode has been this this upcoming week, this final week
- 36:41of the regular season that will include the final regular or the
- 36:45final series I should say just generally speaking at the
- 36:50Oakland Coliseum starting on Tuesday running through Thursday
- 36:53versus the Rangers before they make their move to Sacramento.
- 37:02I'm not. I'm going to avoid being
- 37:05negative here, but I do have to say something right off the top
- 37:08because it, it made me stop and go.
- 37:12Hmm. I read today that apparently
- 37:21more and more players are growing upset because they wish
- 37:27they were staying at the Coliseum.
- 37:32And I read that and I had to stop and go.
- 37:34Hmm. Hmm.
- 37:39Because we know objectively that the Oakland Coliseum is not
- 37:47good, so why would you want to stay?
- 37:54There maybe they've befriended some of the raccoons that are
- 38:05living in there. The possums in the ceiling.
- 38:07It's possible raccoons are in Queens.
- 38:12We're getting our animals mixed up.
- 38:14The possums are in in Oakland. They were in the visiting radio
- 38:19booth. What would you rather be friends
- 38:21with? Raccoons for sure.
- 38:24They're little hands. Raccoons are super chill.
- 38:27They're like little. Bandits.
- 38:28Yeah. Little trash bandits.
- 38:30Yeah. Just love their little hands.
- 38:35Possums are weird. They hiss.
- 38:37I think they hiss, but they kind of look like.
- 38:42They're chill though. Yeah, they're chill.
- 38:44They're like a rat with like an armadillo tail thing.
- 38:47Oh, you're talking. You're talking possums.
- 38:49I thought we're still talking raccoons.
- 38:50Oh, yeah. I don't know if the possums are
- 38:52chill. Yeah, they might be.
- 38:53They might be kind of nasty, but the raccoons are.
- 38:55Give me raccoons all day. Raccoons are chill.
- 39:00But other than that, other than this sentiment from the players
- 39:04from the, from these Oakland, a players that claim that they're
- 39:09upset that they wish they could stay because they, they, they
- 39:12can't say they're upset that they can't stay.
- 39:14Ouch. I, I can't wrap my head around
- 39:15don't even know if that was said or don't don't know if this was
- 39:19a thing where the person writing the article just needed some
- 39:22filler and decided to go with the vague arbitrary sweeping
- 39:28statement. Aside from that, though, how do
- 39:32we feel about this being the the swan song for the Coliseum?
- 39:37I don't know. I mean, like you got to imagine
- 39:42they're basically like minor league facilities anyway.
- 39:45Like, I don't think it's that much of A downgrade to go to
- 39:48Sacramento. No, I don't.
- 39:50I don't. I'm not talking necessarily big
- 39:52picture. I'm not even really talking
- 39:53about next year. I'm just saying like this, just
- 39:56being it like that, because I, I got to, I got to say I'm sitting
- 40:00there, I'm, I'm sifting through some articles and just trying to
- 40:03get, I'm trying to gauge like what the, what the expectation
- 40:06is for this final series. And it's like one of those
- 40:11things where it it, it made me stop and.
- 40:15Think about the fact that like the, the Oakland A for, I mean,
- 40:20for as long as we've been alive and fans of baseball, it's been
- 40:24the Oakland A's. And it's kind of one of those,
- 40:26it's one of those things where you're like, this is this is
- 40:29really happening. Like this, This isn't just a
- 40:32talking point that we, we touched on months ago to, you
- 40:37know, because it was something that popped up in the news like
- 40:40no, this is a real, this is a real thing that's happening.
- 40:44It's coming to a close. I'm ready for it.
- 40:50I mean, I understand that. Like there's probably some
- 40:54bittersweet aspects to it. Do we know what the the A's
- 40:57faithful is doing? All the the groups that like
- 41:01boycott games or decide to bring this to a game or don't bring
- 41:06this or park here? Well, I mean dozens of fans
- 41:10that. OK, well, we're not, I said
- 41:13we're not going to. We're not going to go on a
- 41:14slander fest here, and I'm not going to.
- 41:19But the last I checked the tickets were going like very
- 41:22fast for this series. Even though they were expensive,
- 41:25right? Oh, right, yeah.
- 41:29Oh, man, I completely forgot that way up.
- 41:31Yeah, yeah, we definitely talked about that.
- 41:32I completely forgot, forgot they did that.
- 41:34That was like weeks ago at this point.
- 41:36They were like, yeah, we see there's some demand here, so.
- 41:40Screw you. It'd be cool to see, man.
- 41:45It'd be cool to see. And I hate to say it, I I do
- 41:50think it'd be neat to see like something.
- 41:58According to seek shout out seek used from a code 3 O take
- 42:02THREEOHTAKE for $20 off your purchase.
- 42:08According to Seek, the availability is looking a little
- 42:11sparse. I mean, all things considered,
- 42:14it's looking, it's looking a little, little thin in terms of
- 42:18ticket availability. So it it, I think for that, at
- 42:20least for the finale, I can't speak for the other two games,
- 42:23but for that Thursday game. Who they got again?
- 42:28The Rangers are coming to town. That's right.
- 42:32Yeah. I mean, I I would like to see a
- 42:34little something not at all on the same level at all, but the
- 42:41Yankees final game in old Yankee Stadium, you know, everyone
- 42:44comes out and and Jeter grabs the mic and, you know, like that
- 42:48kind of thing. I don't think there's going to
- 42:49be a microphone situation, but I I think it would be cool to have
- 42:55like some type of moment, you know what I mean?
- 42:57Like the fans aren't leaving their seats.
- 43:00Like, did you not something like that?
- 43:01OK, so you didn't hear this then?
- 43:03OK, because I saw this just before we hopped on standby.
- 43:06I got to I got to find this because there apparently was
- 43:14something that came out that said that the ah, here it is
- 43:20from dugout report on Facebook. The O the A's.
- 43:23This is me reading the post verbatim, so don't don't come
- 43:25after me. I don't know if this is fully
- 43:27accurate. This is what I saw.
- 43:28According to Dugout Report, the A's in the league have told
- 43:31players not to not linger after the Athletics last game in
- 43:34Oakland on September 26th. Quote Precautions for the final
- 43:38homestand have been taken by the team, per ESPN's Tim Keown,
- 43:42alerting the players to be aware of their surroundings in case
- 43:45fans decide to take the field. Players have also been told not
- 43:49to gather for photographs with family on the field after the
- 43:51game. Just get out of there.
- 43:53Quote. JJ Laday said this.
- 43:56No, I'm sorry, let me rephrase quote.
- 43:58Just get out of there. JJ Bledet said the sentiment was
- 44:01manager Mark Kotze, who had planned to thank the crowd after
- 44:04the game was told to go straight to the clubhouse, Bob
- 44:07Nightingale reported. What are they going to do?
- 44:13What are they going to do? Honestly, to me that sounds like
- 44:22a cop out from the league. And no, that's absolutely I, I
- 44:27don't know why I didn't arrive at this conclusion earlier.
- 44:29That's 1000% of cop out from the league saying, oh, like we don't
- 44:33want anything to happen to the players.
- 44:35No, what you don't want to happen is there for to be any
- 44:39sort of ceremony that would commemorate the fact that one of
- 44:44the owners and the league just as a whole, though, in terms of
- 44:47how they've managed this situation was completely
- 44:51botched. And you don't want you don't
- 44:53want there being any sort of signage that makes its way on
- 44:56the field after the game. You don't cause well, you know
- 44:58that's going to be there. People are going to find a way
- 45:00to get that in. But you just don't want there to
- 45:02be any added time or opportunity for the league or for for fans
- 45:08or even players even to make any sort of statement that would
- 45:12speak out against one of your owners or your league.
- 45:15It's as. Simple as that.
- 45:17This is weird. You're right, this is very
- 45:19weird. This is very weird.
- 45:23Like you're, you're saying goodbye to a city.
- 45:26Like as much as we want to doggone, as much as much crap
- 45:29that I want to dish out to them, You're you're saying goodbye to
- 45:32a city. That's what I'm saying like.
- 45:34You're saying you are saying goodbye.
- 45:35It's not like a new stadium is opening up across the street
- 45:39like this is like an official goodbye.
- 45:43It's weird to not even allow that to happen.
- 45:47It's weird to not have like any moments.
- 45:52I don't know, I don't like this. The whole thing sucks.
- 45:59The whole thing could have been like just build a new a new spot
- 46:02in Oakland and you would have been fine.
- 46:04Spend money like this. Never this.
- 46:06This is a breakup that never needed to happen.
- 46:14Bad owners. I've made my, my thoughts pretty
- 46:19clear over the last year or two about the situation.
- 46:23And I've, I, I feel like I've been somewhat critical of the
- 46:30A's fan base in terms of not, not so much the way they've
- 46:35responded to this situation, but where they were at when the team
- 46:39was successful and making those they were, they were showing up
- 46:43in the wild card. They were making those, those
- 46:46runs into the DS People said, well, why would we the, the, the
- 46:51common response I got from from ace fans, Why would we show up
- 46:55and support a losing product and, and, and bad ownership?
- 46:59We won a winning product. And it's not, it's not that
- 47:01difficult to, to, to assemble that if you care.
- 47:05It's like, OK, well, those years back in the 20 tens where you
- 47:09were showing up in the in in the postseason, I went back, I laid
- 47:13out the attendance numbers for those games and it it, it kind
- 47:20of raises your eyebrow a little bit.
- 47:22You go, hmm, where, where was the turn out for, for those,
- 47:26those and it it wasn't necessary.
- 47:29I'm sorry, let me rephrase. It wasn't the postseason turn
- 47:31out. It was the the regular season
- 47:34leading up to the those postseason games because it's.
- 47:37Where there was success. You're watching winning
- 47:39baseball. You have to be winning baseball
- 47:41games as a team. If you make it to the
- 47:43postseason, which is what they did.
- 47:44That's sorry, I needed to rephrase that.
- 47:46That it was it was a regular seasons of those years.
- 47:49And it's like, OK, well, where were you then?
- 47:53Like it. It's hard for me to to look at
- 47:55that and and then look at the way this year has gone.
- 47:58And then it's like, why are you taking our team from us?
- 48:01It's like, I understand it's more complex than than just
- 48:06this, but I don't know. It's I've, I've just, I've had a
- 48:12hard time digesting the whole, like, Oakland fans are the
- 48:16greatest fans in the world. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 48:19Like I can't get there. I'm not going to get there.
- 48:21I'm not ever going to get there. Yeah, like you, you had your
- 48:27chance to. And I get it, Like you don't
- 48:28want to support, but you do want to support.
- 48:31It's very strange and it's probably a tough line to tell,
- 48:35but like, I don't know. I don't know.
- 48:41But to your point, it's like it sucks you're leaving a city.
- 48:43And I can certainly sympathize with with fans on that like
- 48:48that. I'm I'm not going to, I'm not
- 48:50going to get all cold on them for that like that.
- 48:52I mean. That part is like, I just think
- 48:55it's directly with fans and players.
- 48:59Like if you can remove all the other aspects to it, like allow,
- 49:06allow players to hang out, allow players to sign autographs, fans
- 49:12aren't getting on the field, it's not going to happen.
- 49:14This is in the 70s. So like, don't sit here and say
- 49:16like, we got to watch out for that.
- 49:17It's not going to happen. Signs are going to happen no
- 49:21matter what. Like you, I don't understand the
- 49:24sentiment is going to carry over into Sacramento.
- 49:26You're still going to have a bitter fan base and you're going
- 49:30to have Sacramento. That's like, we don't care what
- 49:32that you're here, you know, like you're still going to have those
- 49:35aspects to it. Like nothing about a standing O
- 49:39or walking around signing autographs or taking it a lap
- 49:43around the field is going to change that.
- 49:48Just let it be what it is and not step in.
- 49:52Shame on the league, shame in the league, shame in the A's.
- 49:56It's too predictable though. You you could have seen this
- 49:59coming. The league just doesn't want any
- 50:00blowback after the the last that last A's game.
- 50:03They just don't, they don't want to deal with it.
- 50:04So they're saying A's management, front office, tell
- 50:10your team to wrap it up after the the final out and get him in
- 50:14the clubhouse. Because we don't want to deal
- 50:16with any of this. We don't want to deal with the
- 50:17signs. We don't want to deal with the
- 50:19insults, we don't want to deal with any, any sort of sentiment
- 50:23that would reflect poorly upon us, which from a business
- 50:26perspective, I get it. But also like you made your own
- 50:29bed, like now you got a lay in it and they're doing everything
- 50:33they can to avoid having to lay in it, which is just sad.
- 50:35But good point. What else would you expect from
- 50:38the league? That's all I really had.
- 50:41Unless you got anything else, Any other items you want to
- 50:45touch on before we get into the week?
- 50:49No, not really. Did I say something before?
- 50:53I can't remember. No.
- 50:57No. Nothing you wanted to put a pin
- 50:59in. Give me your top five.
- 51:03Give me your top five jersey numbers real quick.
- 51:05What would you wear? What would you want to wear?
- 51:07Put. Me on the spot here.
- 51:09What? Do you think of that?
- 51:12Well, I mean, I got to go. I got to put my 2 numbers to the
- 51:16top. I'd I'd have to go got to go 34
- 51:21and I got to go 8 OK, But then after that I'd go 2424 is a sexy
- 51:29jersey number. OK.
- 51:32And then I do. I do concur there.
- 51:34And then I'd probably go 5. No, I'd go 9 and then five. 9.
- 51:419. Really. 9 isn't sexy to me?
- 51:46No, not there. I love Nye, dude, that's a,
- 51:50that's a, that's a good baseball number, Yeah.
- 51:56Mine are mostly low. Give me two, give me 7.
- 52:00Give me 8. Give me give me 21. 21. 21 is
- 52:11just a good baseball number. I like that.
- 52:13But yeah, no, I mean. They give me 3.
- 52:16No judgement, I just didn't know. 278213.
- 52:21Where's 21 stem from I. Don't know.
- 52:23It's a good number. I like it.
- 52:26It's a good baseball number. That is a good baseball number.
- 52:28Shout out, shout out, Roberto Clemente.
- 52:33Guess that name? Hall of Fame.
- 52:36One of the members of our guest the name Hall of Fame.
- 52:40Very, very valid point. Let's have a good week folks.
- 52:44Final. Like we talked about pretty much
- 52:46the whole episode last week of regular season baseball.
- 52:50My closing thought would be because I had this thought
- 52:53myself, I had to, I had to stop myself from what I was doing and
- 52:57I, I had to, I had to really let it sink in that we've only got
- 53:03six games left. And even if your team sucks,
- 53:08watch the last six games because I promise you we've you've, if
- 53:13you're listening to this, you've probably been a fan of baseball
- 53:16for some time. So you know what I'm about to
- 53:18say. But you're going to get to a
- 53:20point in the middle of January and you're going to say, man, I
- 53:26wish my team was on TV right now.
- 53:30And you won't be able to watch them on TV.
- 53:32You know why? Because it's the offseason.
- 53:34So what's the best thing to do with six games left?
- 53:37Watch those games on TV. So very true.
- 53:41So even if your team sucks, even if whoever your team is going up
- 53:45against this week in their last two remaining series, even if
- 53:48they're going to get pounced, watch the games because you're
- 53:51going to miss it once the offseason hits.
- 53:54It's a great point. Let's end on that.
- 53:57Don't go chasing curve balls. We love you all and as always,
- 54:00looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 54:02Until next time, stay filthy.
